"It got out with me with the strike to go and then we'll go for dinner really got out of me. I think if I'm ever fortunate, I promise the world maybe God's saying, you know, you can't act that way or something. You can be joyous, but it was over the top because I was very, you know, one of the things I met Al Michaels, you know, in California, he said to me, he was great. He said, he said, when you see Nick zero, it's like each stone is faced that he wanted to win The Kentucky Derby. He was right, because if you go around for 25 years, wanting to do something, and then you accomplishment, it's going to come out. You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah, I don't think anybody can get on you for being happy that you won the Derby. Yes. That's right. Yeah, it's been, of course, nearly 20 years since go for gin. I know you have this love affair with The Kentucky Derby and rightfully so do you want to win it maybe even a little bit more now that it's been so long since you've been you know guys, I'll tell you, I'm so happy you asked me that question. 2010, you know, we're all clustering, I guess, are all sick somehow. I mean, a sick mentally physically, emotionally. You know, if you check all three, you know? You got something. And in 2010 I was really going through a hard time, you know, emotionally, because you have to, you get this reputation. Wayne Lucas, Bob Baffert, Nick zero. You know, so you say you got to win this thing again. You got to win this thing again. You got to win this thing. And more so to try to get the peace, not the glory, the peace. And when I was making that move and I had Jackson in it too, felt so confident that he fell short for a second. The super saver that was top pledges first Derby and rightfully so observantly had to win one, you know? And of course I'm sure he's going to win many more, you know? But it took a lot out of me that year. And I think now, you know, Mike Jude, if I don't win one, I got a piece with myself. I would have loved to have win the third one. Pat Riley, when he won his championship, you know, with the heat, he said the same thing. He said, we just peace. And I know what he meant, but now, you know, but I have to, I'd like to get back. I'd like to get back to Derby. And I promise you, as long as they have HR, I mean. I won't forget. I won't forget it. We'll forget it. I'll be back. And that's what I want to do. And when fine, but just to be back there again, I definitely going to do that. I mean, I don't know if I'm going to win a third Derby, but I promise you, I'll make sure I'm back there again. I think what the owners I have now and the blessings I have and the people that, you know, I'm kind of at peace. You know, sometimes believe it or not, you. You know, you do a lot of things and you maybe go too fast and too slow, have too much or would have to last. You know, it catches up to you, you know? You got to have a good niche. It's like, you know, it's funny. Mike Dickey, he said something, and it's funny we're talking about sports, but we're racing in racing in sports. When he worked for Tom Landry, and Mike dick is a great guy, you know, a great person. And Tom Landry no better coaches. I think Parcells even gave him credit, whatever. And Tom, the great time Landry said to Mike dicker. Mike, you'll always be a Chicago bear. So it is something with relationships. Something where you come from, something who you work for, something who you have horses for who you train for. And I think for sure, I'll get back. So it's just myself that I have to realize I've been very lucky. I've trained for a lot of great owners, owners that are with me now own as that war with me before. I can never say anything bad to someone makes you make an opportunity. It makes you make a living. You know what I mean? You have disagreements or not. But I'll definitely get back there again. And if we win one fine, but I think the most important thing, guys, is for me, is to try to get back there. Look, we're getting older, but we're not ancient. And you look at you look at some of the great horse trainers in time, whether it's Charlie whittingham, or the great woody steering, or the great Alan jerkins, or whoever I'm looking, you know, leaving out a Mac Miller or something, hey, they went pretty far. You know, and it proved that you could train horses, you know, as you keep getting older. And I feel like I'm actually having like these last year and a half Jude, I'm starting to feel like I'm getting back into groove, you know? Well, your stables definitely on the upswing, you got a bunch of nice two year olds and hopefully those will continue to develop and turn into good three year olds. And I think, you know, the old saying you can't make chicken salad out of chicken, you know what? And that's so true and I remember one time when I was going through a slump, the great Gary Jones who probably should be in the Hall of Fame. You know, he told me it's not you, you know? Gary and I were having a conversation on the apron and saying, hey, it's not you. He says, I see those horses. You run their absolute bumps. Get rid of them. You start from scratch if you have to, but it's not what you're doing. It's just the horses aren't that good. And everybody goes through that. I mean, I remember one time Charlie winning him was like, oh, for 52 or something. And they had him wrapped up in the coffin. And then he comes out and wins The Kentucky Derby with Ferdinand. Whatever AG was 80 years old or whatever. So all that stuff is just baloney and it just happens. Sometimes, you know, your horses are just aren't that good. So now you've got a great situation where the two year old you ran yesterday. I mean, he could be another strike the goal. Or whatever. You just have to keep playing the game as long as you're playing your in it. Working with Hall of Fame trainer Nick zito trainer talk presented by things that tipped in here on the horse racing radio network. Nick, you started the interview tonight talking about being a fan of horse racing first and foremost. So I know more than likely most of us you would love to see another Triple Crown winner in the sport. Both of your Belmont victories, you've played the spoiler with a Triple Crown. You're of course birdstone first and then deter a second. Obviously you were thrilled to win the Belmont stakes. Is there a, is there part of you though that it was kind of bittersweet denying that Triple Crown? Well, I think the first one, but you know, you take a deep breath. "Jane robinson who rushed for over one thousand yards in his rookie season was basically useless or basically not used at all with five rushing attempts. So here we go man. Trevor lawrence live at the stat. Saying that Trevor lawrence has never lost a football game a regular season football game in either high school or college so when he went down there in georgia in high school. He never lost a game. I guess he played for years. We never lost a game. Then he comes to clemson he might have lost a game in the conference and has got in the semifinals but as far as regular season with clemson he never lost A regular season game. So get ready. Mr lawrence because as long as this concept along with this stuff lots fee along with this idea that having urban meyer is your coach not only. Are you going to be losing. A lot of dysfunction will be Esteemed to be out of control. So it's great to see trevor lawrence losing in college or high school in a regular season but Get used to it. Get used to it in jacksonville. If all things. Greek jacksonville could have gotten dug up vince. Lombardi and tom landry and chuck knoll and put those guys on his staff. With joe. gibbs and bill walsh bill parcells and everybody else for this season jacksonville. Winning or jacksonville gonna win very few even very few games. Under the best of circumstances so morris goes twenty eight fifty one for three hundred and thirty yards three touchdowns as i mentioned before three interceptions. I don't know man we. We better go ahead. The team looked at functional. The team look ill-prepared. This is not a this is a good way to start. The career of a guy who many people far quarterback is concerned is has the talent of being a generational great quarterback man. You've got yourself a gem. You have got yourself a winning lottery ticket if the jacksonville jaguars you need to do everything humanly possible to make sure this guy has. The best opportunity to reach is expectations to reach his potential to reach his talent in bringing in a flipping college coach. Who hadn't spent one second in any capacity whatsoever in the nfl is foolhardy. Mind-blowing lee ridiculous and hit scraggly stupid in my honest opinion. I mean doggone man. I mean again. "Jack Prescott and the Cowboys taking on Tom Landry and the Buccaneers. Phone calls coming up. Presbyterian beat ST Andrews over the weekend. You might not have noticed, although Presbyterians, quarterback of Michigan transfer through 10 touchdown passes and the reason why the game caught our eye is the head coach of Presbyterian. Is Kevin Kelly. And we covered this story a couple years ago, where Coach never punted. I don't even know if he has a puncher on his team, and we thought OK, made his college debut and certainly made an impact with 84 43 went over. ST Andrews and Coach joins US. You gave up 43 points, though, Coach I mean 84 you score but still gave up 43. We We did. We've got a lot of work to do on both sides to be honest, But our games are kind of like that because we shorten the field a lot if we don't make 1/4 down in a bad spot that filled shorter If we onside kick don't get at the field shorter, so it it usually ends up in a little higher scoring games. Do you have a puncher on your squad? There was one here when I came any transfer. I know that was people always ask me what was going to happen if I became a college coach. I never I thought it was always a joke. And then it really kind of happened. But a transfer Okay. But did didn't have you changed anything since you've gone from high school to college? No, no. You know, I mean and think about it. You know, you've moved up in the world. If you change anything that got you there, you feel like if it goes bad, you'll be always mad at yourself like You know, I didn't do what got me here and you know, I think all the success and I think I've got math and science behind it. I think it proved it. So I was going to do what I believe in because in that what we're supposed to do for our guys on the field make the decisions we believe in it gives them the best chance. But what was the reaction when you did this in high school, like when you people realize you weren't going to punt? Yeah. I mean, at first, there were some boos from our own crowd. And then you know, And then there was, you know, the media was writing bad things about it Negative, and there was a lot of naysayers. And then you know, as we started winning those kind of went away, and then I had to deal with the coaches because I would go to coaches, clinics and coaches would sit away from me like I had leprosy or something because they were like you're making a mockery of our game, and I'm like I'm just trying to win in a school that had never won anything you know, and I have to do something different, because I think I'm a good football coach. I think I'm really good at some things. But you know if you can find an advantage somewhere else, even if it's just a little one here and there, those add up, I call it the casino theory, 1.5% advantage at blackjack and a 10.8 and craps. And they always win. So if we can do that, and give ourselves a little edge by just making better decisions, and it works off autumn at first, and I thought the media would be the worst part and you guys are the ones that actually made it. Okay to do because when some media guy started doing positive spends on it, The social side came over there like okay, They like it. We like it. So it's not nearly as bad now Give me the analytics behind, not punting. You know, really? You should pipe some in theory and according to the numbers themselves, but feel position and expected points. I won't bore you with with all the real true analytics of the game, but People should point a lot less in the game than they do now. I mean, it's just proven even at times on your own into the field in the first quarter, the game and those kinds of things and and Have decided not to do that. But the more I did it, and I saw all that. We were putting so little at one time when I was at first experimenting that it was a waste of time to waste 15 minutes a day on the protein and that 15 minutes I got to work on something else that we needed to on offense or defense. Well, they don't measure that in the analytics world. So you should really pipe If you value those 15 minutes a day, Even you should punt even less than the numbers say. You've heard from other coaches, very successful coaches who came in to pick your brain. I mean, I mean a lot a lot of people and a lot of my asked me not to name them so scared, but but it's been a who's who like Bill Belichick. Well, you know, Bill Bill or not, Bill, just like talking football. I don't think he's ever going to go the no pot route. Don't get me wrong, but I was curious, though. Yeah, man, I think I think I think curious. I think you know, you know, we would. I think he likes to be around people that are successful. And he sees certain things and and and maybe he was just I don't know if curious is the thing, but we've talked some football and I'll guarantee you this. I've learned a lot more from him that he asked for me, but he's watched our games and watch what we do. And I think he's trying to see Maybe some of the psychological effects that it has on the teams as well as as well as what it looks like. But I think that there's a lot of coaches that have done that. But I've had some of the biggest names in coaching. You know, Nick Saban told me at one point, um and I don't think Nick minds that I mentioned his name because he's Nick. He can do whatever he wants to, But he looked and he said, I think you're probably right more than you're wrong. But it's hard to do that, because of all the things you have to face, and you have to win your team over that. Traditionally think a different way. And and and he was winning anyway. So what do you know? Why would he change anything? But do you think this might Hamper you in getting promoted, moving up the ladder in in college. Absolutely absolutely in a tamper. Be still four. I've I've interviewed for a lot of jobs. You know whether it's a coordinator or a head coach or even a position coach, and it doesn't stop the positions. But you know, the athletic director always things if I hire the wrong football coach, and we know this to be true, Dad. He might get fired and the other thing they don't want to deal with. And I've been told by athletic directors. They don't want to deal with the media that comes along with it. If you do, lose a game and make a decision that they think is nontraditional. Then they've got to answer questions, too. And a lot of them don't want to do that. So, yeah, it absolutely might hamper me. But again, it goes back to this. I think the football coach's job besides knowing football and facilitating the relationships, and coaching is when it comes to the moment are you making the decision you think is best for your team or so you don't have to deal with the media or have to deal with not moving up in the profession. And I just decided a long time ago. My job is to do the decision. That's gonna help us win games because those guys deserve the reward of all the hard work the players the assistant coaches the fans because they pay to see it. So I went that route, and if it happens, it happens. If it doesn't it doesn't if you coached in the NFL. Would you punt? You know, I've you know, it's not that I never point We put it eight times in the last 16 years. Oh, wow. Okay. No, it's not. But there are times two point. So the answer is we may punt this year's up. We may punt, you know, but but, yes, I'm sure there will be times I've put the NFL There would be a lot less than what anybody else to do it, though. Let's say it's 4th and 10 at your own 20. First quarter, no score. First quarter, no score. He's my.

"Male time. We dump your issues on us. Let me see what i hear. Time does one win over hawaii. Ease the pressure on chip kelly. Not a bit. I mean beaten the why hundreds of ten or whatever it was. I watched about a quarter of that. Tony beating of that's the equivalent of nfl. Preseason game 'cause a real team is coming to town come into the rosebowl. Lsu is coming out there this weekend and a to me. You know other than me when my local issues on my must game. North western michigan state. Ucla lsu is the must watch game. I think of the weekend and you wanna see if chip. Kelly and his team have anything for real team not for hawaii and so no. It doesn't ease any pressure or it doesn't make his seat any cooler. I don't think you disagree with that do you. I will add one other game. Clemson georgia as long we got along with. Ucla lsu. I was amazed to find out that. Lsu is only a three and a half point favorite. That's chip kelly. As twenty starters returning. If he wins that game they will carry him around the rose bowl in a chair and everything will be fine but let's look at his record for a second. He was forty six. And seven at oregon. He's eleven twenty one at ucla. That scott frost territory. He went to the eagles failed. He went to the forty niners. He failed and he's failing right now. Failing and ucla so beating. Hawaii isn't going to mean anything. If you go out and you lose to stanford and you lose to arizona state or something like that. I think we both wish him. Well the lsu thing that's been even a lot of confidence. That's big tony. And by the way even if they beat lsu always good for one week by the way they announced thirty thousand fans in the building. I watched i watched a quarter. It looked like they were about fifteen thousand fans. Of course rose bowls enormous. That can happen but they are on trial. There's his seat is just as hot as scott frost. I see oh. I agree i agree. Do you see the niners sticking with a quarterback platoon. I mean a platoon. I don't like that word. Do i see both those guys sharing the position and not out of desperation but out of the plant shore yes cash shanahan's a really smart guy. He's not looking back at what is done. Historically tends to look forward to what what. What can. I do now to help this team in my situation in my guys good for him. I don't see them platooning by series. Oh by play something. Tom landry by the way the great. Tom landry did against the washington football team against the bears. Actually back in like nineteen seventy. It's been tried in the last fifty years though narrowly. I do see them sharing the position. Tony a little bit more than it is usually done. I applaud that effort. Yeah i don't. That's just not the nfl way you pick a quarterback and you stick with them until you have to yank him. Let's look at this for a second. Jimmy garoppolo is a far far better. Nfl quarterback than trae lance. Jimmy garoppolo took this team to a superbowl. Jimmy garoppolo as a starter is twenty. Two and eight in san francisco and trae. Lance played one game last year in college. One game jimmy. Garoppolo's problem is he gets hurt if he doesn't get hurt at it is. And that's why you have the backstop everything by getting trae lance but isn't ready to be an nfl quarterback sharing time right now with jimmy garoppolo. Should they average twenty eight points. A game when jimmy. Garoppolo is the starter. He's healthy. he's gonna be the quarterback. Look at what sean payton is doing. It has done in new orleans you can put trey lance in there for x. Number of plays to help that. Yes like can't yes. They're not looking back to a sixteen game schedule. The nfl are they know they keep looking forward to moma mo and it costs. You can do that. You could have a second quarterback who use but you can't to platoon. Let's take one last.

"Exactly so last night. It struck me that this man has gone completely over the edge into ego maniac. Right did you see the footage of him. Walking out to the first open practice where they filled their little stands. I think they hold like twelve thousand people there at the star indoors. But they packed the stands. And you could see jerry stephen jerry junior. They're they're becoming chips off the old block. They're they're gonna be hard to handle also because they're just going to slowly take over from dad so the the three of them were walking out into the crowd and blue got full house. We've got a great crowd. Jerry walks out. And they are channing jury. Jerry and i'm thinking springer no jerry. Before he was he just basking. They're chanting my name and it made me heart back to that moment that i first met him that night. Nineteen eighty-nine this. Saturday night massacre. It was called in dallas. When jerry somehow bought the cowboys out from under far more deep-pocketed investors trying to buy the team at that point it large part because the former owner bum bright decided to pick this interloper from arkansas. This quote unquote hick from the stint. Because the hick from the sticks one or two fire. Tom landry and bomb. Bright did not like tom landry because he had cold shouldered him whole time. That bomb had owned the team ledger with a god. Okay well he was god but he was a arm links. You don't come. He wouldn't even give him the time of day. Bomb bright told me for my book at christmas parties. Wouldn't acknowledge him bum. When he first met him tried to actually suggest to play the that he might run now. That was the end of that deal. So that's the jerry jones that i got to know early on. That was the jerry who the day he was allowed to buy. The team had to get on his private jet. Fly from dallas to austin texas to find tom. Landry who was on the fourteenth hole is playing golf at his country club. In austin texas played at the university of texas obviously they had to pull him off the golf course and they came in and he took him into the sales office of the addition that he lived in and sat him down because it was a saturday and nobody was in there at the moment and sat down and told him coach. A moving in a new direction. With my guy jimmy johnson. I played with him at the university of arkansas blah blah blah. And that was jerry's like it. Was christmas eve for jerry at the press conference that night while dallas was in mourning over the loss of tom. Landry jerry got off to a horrible start and yet jerry's never had any shame at all jerry. Just like damn the torpedoes i'm going for. It reminds me a little bit of jaanus shooting airballs from the liner from three. And it just doesn't bother him. He'll come right down and jammed up one. And maybe it'll go in and maybe he'll make twelve in a row. That's jerry jones. Because he has no shame if he as he often says f set up he just throws up his. I'm really. I'm a billionaire. I got the most valuable team sports. What do i care. we'll try. We'll get him again next game. You'll get them tomorrow. We'll get matched yet. So they just keep doing the same things over and over again and i was also horrified by comments. He made a week ago when he said you know. I am seventy eight years of age. He turns seventy nine on october thirteen. But the point is he saying. I feel great. I'm on top of it. I have no plans to back off. So he is for the siebel future. He is going forward as the owner. And the operator of franchise so to me. It has become more about jerry's ego jerry promoting jerry then winning. That's even like like you always make it about the dollars. We'll he's way past the dollars to me. Because i don't know how much money you can have. The he's like richard. Then god right. He's he's got money. You're talking about generational wealth for that client. They've they've got it and yet why would he want to sell the cowboys cowboys for billions of dollars. This is his line though. He he's in a woman into the cowboys cowboys a him. And he's gonna within a family never go. Someone could come in and offer jerry twenty billion cowboys because the cowboys are worth more is something that money can't buy. It gives a level of prominence that he can't get with money. He owns the cowboys. Skip in the meetings. Jerry is not watching film to look at the third. The swing tackle third cornerback. That's not what he's doing. He's got notes from the coaches have taken over the course of the week and passed out to him and he have people. Think oh man jerry. Jerry is not studying tape up in the room that night. No he's not and they were talking about that. The kid from mexico that off of the practice squad. Obviously it was a good. They have great little inside story about lesser known players. That probably won't have much to do with the dallas cowboys. But that's what makes hard knocks are not great but but the point is that's who they were evaluating juries like taking notes on them like i got to know this and he's taking notes so he can have all the information for his two radio gigs that he does so he gets asked about a player. He's got the inside stuff on him because he heard it from the coach. Yes right yes and it reminds me of all the way back to that opening night. Press conference what was his most infamous. Line i'm going to know everything about the cowboys down to the socks and jock right. He's still all about the he wants to know about the and the jaw right and the other story. He told me that you'll get a kick out of is how he came to by the dallas cowboys. In the first place was he had find he he he went broke in the oilfields and then he kept plunging just the way janas keeps shooting right and he hit one. Hit another one and another one in suddenly. He got rich. Quick dan right and he got so rich he got bored. And so he. And stephen went to an oil and gas convention in san diego of all places they got bored at the convention and i said let's just got their private jet. Let's just go to kabul which is not that far. This is just what like a twenty minute minute flight or not dow. Yeah maybe maybe an hour okay. So they fly down capo in the first night. Stephen says let's go to this bar. It's called big giggling marlin and the whole point of the bar for tourists. Theresa's that you go in. They'll hang you upside down at the bar a marlin would be and you can drink all the beer you want if you if you drink it upside down. So you know jerry. He's going to participate in that he's the life of the party and he drank a little too much and he was so hung over the next morning. Stephen was going on a deep sea fishing expedition. Way out into the ocean and jerry said. There's no way i can handle that. I'm staying back. And he said. I had like one eye open. And i'm reading a two day old edition of the san diego paper and i see no dallas cowboys for sale and the brokerages salomon brothers. In new york city. He picks up the phone and cold call salomon brothers and says and this is the quote. You don't know me. But i'm jerry jones and i'm going to buy the dallas cowboys. Well he pulled it off. I don't know how i pulled it off. He was lucky he was at the right place at the right time. He presented the the right case to bum. Bright rahm bringing jimmy johnson. Tom landry going forward. I don't want tech schramm going forward and he pulled it off and then last night. I'm in all watching him. He's created an empire. Yes in even in the helicopter. They.

"I would definitely provide him with his heisman and and he should be around. Us football as often as he can be around. How surprised were you that urban meyer decided to coach again and coach in the nfl. Well i was surprised you know. I think i think the watching him on the sidelines. You remember when ohio state was playing in his last year. And how many times have we see him holding his head and taking a knee and almost like he was getting dizzy. I don't i. Don't i thought man this might be. This might be it for him. And i don't know what happened. I haven't spoken with them about why now with his health. An know that he's always had a calling to get back in but he must feel as far as his doctors with that system. Must be okay. I watched him the other night and he looked still you know he can't help but he's so competitive. He's not like a coach. Tom landry that just kind of sits there and watches the game. I mean he's he's like. His blood is boiling on the sidelines. Is and it's going to be a long year with jacksonville. And he's going to have to learn somehow. Let those emotions to the side because that offense aligned is allow some hits on its franchise quarterback this year. Gimme a sneaky team. Not in the top ten that could be in the final four at the end of the year. One i'll give you this. I end atop tana's cincinnati. How how do you get into the playoffs. Because we've not seen that if you're a group of five team boise state used to flirt with the bcs. Because they would have. A virginia tech was a top ten opponent. It have georgia who was a top ten opponent. They would win those games and they wouldn't have a shot at the end to try to get in there. I think within the end of the with cincinnati play at indiana who's top fifteen team this year and they played in south. Bend those non conference games for cincinnati. Remember how they played against. George in the sugarbowl. They really out georgia. They just couldn't close the deal. They lost the game but they were really competitive. I think they scored some points there in stars respect so cincinnati is a team that i think could actually break into the top four. If in fact they win against indiana in notre dame on the road donate have to win the american outside of that I would say i would give you. Let's say wisconsin could be maybe a surprise team. They had a down year year ago. they. They seem to be a team that could be on the bounce. I think the winner actually depends state. Wisconsin game they open up by the way. That's tough opener in college football. Whoever wins that game. I think it could bounce in and have a legitimate shot to get up in the top ten pretty quickly. Like there's not a reason. The Broncos. Are As successful. If not more so than the Dallas Cowboys. In the last However many decades Like you think A lot of Cowboys fans today are harkening back to the Tom Landry days. No, it's the triple its Right. That's where they're going. Not relevant to most people today. It's Aikman, Smith and Irvine. Till now. So tell me. Why There have been More franchises like the Broncos, who have been more successful. Then the Cowboys have been But the Cowboys are still more relevant than the Denver Broncos. Nationally. Why is that? Because they just are. And it's a lot like the conversation we have about the NBA and why these playoffs are so good because he who shall not be named, is not playing anymore. He who shall not be named in the NFL or the Cowboys. I am 100% positive if the Cowboys got contracted The NFL.

They may try to get a package for him like that. I don't know. It would be great because black like you say, That's what that's what people are doing now. People want to see that run pass option and which we know breaks pretty easily So they doctor don't want him running any type of option or run pass option near the goal line. We know that because he's gonna get hurt again. I think, Carson, which is gonna be better, but he's very susceptible. To being injured. We asked him what he shot out there today. Yeah. "She wins half over the championships. Now it's a limited field he's playing against because it Z either a 10 or 12 team and a fellow at one point Maybe he got up to 14 teams by the end of the sixties, but you know he's not competing against 30 or 32 or 28 teams. So Lombardi's his reputation nonetheless, is so far above everybody else in terms of coaching, because what he did in such a short amount of time and that the Packers immediately fell off the cliff as soon as he left. I don't think that he reads ever gonna catch Vince Lombardi. Some would say that Bill Bella check has already caught Lombardi. I tend to disagree, but I could be biased. Don't love the Patriots. That's Understatement. And so I think Bella check could be the second best head coach of all time. But again, Bella check success comes over a 20 year period and a failed 1st 10 year in the NFL's a head coach. Lombardi didn't End up coaching, you know for the Steelers and go to 10 and two or something like that. He ends up coming of the NFL immediately winning Super Bowls and immediately developing Hall of Famers. Belichick ends up Has over 20 years. Ah, guy with mortuary peon ships. He has six to Vince Lombardi's five, but it also took him twice as long. So you could say well free agency DEA, and it's much more competitive now, and there's 31 other teams to compete against, that's all fine. I just think with the amount of success that Lombardi had right away. And how I would even say, And this is a compliment to Belichick. I don't think Belichick thinks he's better than Vince Lombardi. I think he believes the Vince Lombardi of the greatest head coach of all time. I do think Andy Reid is going no matter what happens here is going to be considered ever better than Lombardi or Bill Belichick. Now you start getting into the Chuck Noll, Bill Walsh. Tom Landry. Guys. That's your next crew. Don Shula. And all those guys have this larger than life reputation over Shadows over the NFL. You know, Don Shula's the all time winningest coach Undefeated 72 Dolphins. You have Tom Landry's fedora and was the head coach and Dallas for 25 years, 30 years, maybe almost 30 years, I think And two Super Bowl championships and five Super Bowl appearances and building that franchise from the ground up as an expansion team. You have chucked all who won four Super Bowls in six years. Of Bill Walsh. You completely revolutionized offense in many ways and created the modern NFL offense and won three Super Bowls in just a decade's work as well. So Think Andy Reid has been coaching a long time. He's got one ring into Super Bowl appearances. He's great. That championship last year made him a Hall of Famer. But I think if you're gonna start cracking into the Landry, No Shula Walsh And then anywhere. I don't think you'll ever get higher than Bella check in Lombardy. That Reed is going to have to win, Probably two more Super Bowls. Now that's in play. Have Andy Reid finishes with three Super Bowl rings and four Super Bowl appearances. There's a conversation to be had there of him in that upper pantheon. But I think it would take that. And what McNabb was saying was. Basically he doesn't have to win anything else, And he's already going to be in there as long as he coaches the homes for the next five years, which You still gotta I think, Do something with it, Holmes when you when you're coaching him, Whereas you ever think that 80 Reno Andy Reid is hurt by perception here because He had been very good but lost in the big Games for so many years before he cracked through. So that kind of built up his reputation, But also he's a bit of a caricature because the mustache because of the size of him Because he likes to be self deprecating. You know those other guys? They're also serious. Chuck Noll and Tom Landry and Don Shula and Bill Belichick take themselves so seriously or took themselves so seriously. Do you think that we will ever consider Andy Reid, a top three coach ever top three is just too hard to get to when you rattle off all those other names that being said I guess it's on the table. I don't know how long it to Reed wants to go that side by side with Patrick Mahomes. Mahomes becomes Hey, the greatest quarterback of all time, and they go on some incredible run here. Where They get their Super Bowl this year, and they win. And maybe somehow the chief's become this team where they win four Super Bowls in a row, or, you know, five of six and they go on a crazier better dynasty than the Patriots had early on, I guess then we could revisit it. But the fact that we're even having this discussion were a year ago Heading into this weekend, we were talking about 80 Reed, always knowing for choking in this spot and time clock management issues. And the fact that a year later we could have players talking about how he's the greatest of all time and look what's on the table is just a wild pendulum swing for me in a year. I think Read in my homes have the potential over the next five years or so to win multiple championships that they could certainly win one this year, they could win two of them over the next five years. That would be a remarkable run and have three championships in six years or something like that, and And those are those are remarkable accomplishments that you would start talking about Andy Reid with those other guys, but First they got to do that. 2nd 2nd. You're not gonna elevate him into over Bella Checker Lombardi, no matter even if that happens. On the phones. Don is in Oregon this morning here on CBS Portrait of Don dropped. Okay. "To NFL insider I'm Scott Graham. In the 19 seventies, the Dallas Cowboys became America's team, whether you love them or hated them. And while Dallas is offense got the headlines, it was the Cowboys defense under Tom Landry that set the tone safety Cliff Harris was the six time pro bowler and his 10 seasons wearing the star. It is one of only 13 players to appear in five Super Bowls. Two of them wins. In February. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and that night he told Laura Okmin that he was the right guy at the right time in Dallas. I think that one of the things that I did with it. I was very fortunate was that Tom Landry had a very complex defensive system defensive game. I mean defense plan that he designed himself. We had computerized printouts. I was just talking these other guys that they didn't have those back when I was and I get that kind of stuff. And the thing that coach Landry got out of May was, he knew that I got his system. And he knew that I knew that I could work within the system. I started a zit. I mean, my first started my first game. The first playoff. I mean, first preseason game I started And I started the first season game was only rookie to start an undrafted undrafted free. There were there were only 100 and 20 rookies. I had to beat out my camp in 1000 Oaks, California, but you know, it's I mean, just do what you can do on, uh, in the thing. This was really I mean, I'm trying to figure this out to you know is this thing happens in progress develops is that you know, how did Landry must have known that I got his system and that he knew that I got his system and then I knew how to work his system. And I did and how he knew that as a rookie and just tells you how great of a coach he wa so you know. Do you find a guy like you trust a guy like water from washing All Baptist. You know, toe come up and play free safety and we went toe Kash five Super bowls in 10 years, So I mean, uh, you know, it was just, you know, and made that system work with, you know, great players. I mean, gosh, we had so many great players and That I think that coastline you had a personal connection with that he knew how that That he knew how to motivate those guys how to make them work that they would fit in his system, and it works for us. You know, this is going to be tough because with all those Super Bowls with the championships with the conference wins everything you've done if you had to put one signature moment. Next to your bust. It could be a play. It could be a game. It could be just a signature moment that goes along with the bust. What would you choose? Well, I think you know, it would probably be. You know, there's a car so there was there were a couple. There was one moment that that I think really made a No, I know had an enormous impact on the is that you know when we can so they cut my rookie year They came back and Uh, cut 100 rookies and there were you know something? We're all we're always worried about making the team if we're gonna make the team and he was gonna do this and Tom Landry before the first season game, said announced the starting lineup. He announced May is the starting free safety. Well, that meant two things. You know first, and then I made the tea. That was my goal. You know, you gotta make the demon remains the starting lineup. So then I made the starting lineup was, you know, you know, you know, that was that's a good thing. It's icing on the cake, but I think the other thing is, you know, I don't know that's a really good question..

the process of interviewing candidates in the battle begin quickly after phase one is totally finished off yes was contract set to expire January fourteenth status with the team at issue since last February the cowboys didn't give a contract extension they missed the playoffs in twenty nineteen finish eight neighbor the four time in his tenure as coach Keyshawn Johnson on the job candidates and potentially be a candidate you say how could that be well I I II coach there in the deepest corner along try defensive coordinator for Jerry Jones is the bill Parcells fact either stay here they know what they're getting in that particular coach but also there's a young officer coordinator in cabin step band he this sitting there in Minnesota the Minnesota Vikings don't want to part ways with him they don't want him all of a sudden start to get interviews and become a category another team so I would be surprised if somehow might dimmer wind up being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the cabinet she takes over as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings so a lot of story lines this call come about here over the next with date but I think this time around you will get the head coaching job right where the coach may be season one more before we go do you think that at this point Jerry Jones is ready to surrender more control to a head coach now then he has been willing to in the past as bill Parcells left and and I want to turn this on your stamina I am right now status is not a defense Jerry Jones was some what he is and even as well as we clay as well as Jerry junior what is your you Jones gone wrong with that organization other than the head coaching hire that's a very good question that's very good everybody everybody everybody said here you're you're here the one on that team thank you for calling the latter team for the National Football League I would I would argue and say that their top five channels it is four tally dole is a National Football League the problem is that head coach because you're you're not holding the plate yeah well that gives the player is a free pass for having innate need season the talent on the field didn't win enough games he and Garrett will finish as the second longest tenured and second most winningest coach in team history Tom Landry a record of eighty five and sixty seven the wonders to playoff games unable to get past the divisional round Mike wells Myron Medcalf on Freddie Fitzsimmons the Dallas Cowboys there you know they draw attention but the the the days of being America's team and wanted to be part of what is age and it's not the same anymore it is not the same strictly because of what you have to deal with away from just coaching of football team is not simply you know put together a strong staff the coaster brakes of Amari Cooper Ezekiel Elliott and dak Prescott it's also having the answer constant questions from your boss the owner Jerry Jones deck could become a headache when you're you can't simply just focus on the task of putting your team in the proper position the try to have success there's a side show that comes with it and some people are built or not built to be able to deal with that so you got to find the right coach who is not only a great Exynos guy but somebody who's mentally strong enough to handle the constant you know looking over the shoulders and the pestering of your boss meddling in the inside of things wonder why things are not going well or to give us suggestions on what you should be doing that's not something easy that everybody can handle that type of situation well it and not everybody wants it and that's why I think a lot of these cultures your Matt rules related rallies urban Meyer's why except that to me if you're not going to modernize the structure of your organization so that your owner can do what every other owner does and take a backseat and not be this forward facing figure who's hosting its own press conferences after the game sometimes undermining the head coach then then how can you expect to attract a great candidate bomb out rule no one eight I'm leaving Baylor I got a chance to build something there if I'm leak in Raleigh I'm in Oklahoma and every year I get a chance to go to the college football playoff leave in Oklahoma where I can coach for another decade at least about continue to succeed ever murmur Meyer I'm not leaving LA or on the TV analyst making good money watching a lot of football injuries bouncing around the country see a lot of teams to go to Dallas where I've got a deal with Jerry that's why I think it's going to be difficult if Jerry Jones wants to continue to be Jerry Jones I don't think Mike he's going to end up with any of the top candidates identifying potential replacements Bobby carpenter and fox college football reporter Bruce Feldman gas on Freddie impede Simmons Stephen Jones Jerry Jones offered that coaching job urban Meyer she would say I think that's a hard job to say no urban probably wouldn't be needing to be for another year is that all you but who knows enough the big job at the glamorous job and remember the nose you know damn owns his courage and damn ongoing expound acted it all back thank god yeah I was supposed to do the oil itself journal part of mine and to buy that it was offered so you're going to want to meet your need to guide it was a proven track record we've done it before who's been in the playoffs the only guy that I look at the newest hires cycle that's really available is Mike McCarthy and it's free thank god I'm not that I'm not the biggest Mike McCarthy stand the world but he's the only guy that it holds no one Barty and that is the only thing that Jerry Jones once he is getting older is that you know you if you spend more time on this earth that he's going to spend has the last was starving if you get that oracle Marty troche with them of the order would love to put it in there Mike you've done that you chose to leave and you've been in the playoffs he's done a good job that would be my selection I don't know if they don't know what it does do checks all

Dallas Cowboys' Jerry Jones ready to make some noise
"You feel and and President Trump is convinced you and a lot of you echoed what he said that guys that are Neely are being disrespectful to the country to the flag until the military. Even though that's not the case, even though they've told you why they're Neely, Jerry doesn't care scale all care about is money. And if it doesn't make him money or he feels it might stop him or prevent him for making absorbent amount of money because he's making money, but Jerry field, this might stop him in some way because he's still gets. Pushback this, even though this policy might go in the playoffs Steele might be allowed to kneel. At least I was pushing back. He can always fall back on that and the fans will stay with Jerry. One of them saying it was just the league, voted him and this what the players are allowed to do. So he'll always have that in his back pocket. If he loses the final, the final vote. But I am so disappointed, but I'm not surprised here reacted like this. So I'm going to reiterate to everyone wants more. I know Jerry very well. You could say all too well, I spent literally hundreds of hours interviewing him for three books that I wrote on the Dallas Cowboys one on the Tom Landry Cowboys. One on the Jerry, Jimmy Cowboys. One on the Jerry Switzer Cowboys that somehow in spite of itself won the Super Bowl. I don't often agree with Jerry's politics or his stances on lots of things, or he's worldview or sort of his perceptions. But I do respect one thing about Jerry, Jerry is who Jerry and he will let you know between your is exactly what he thinks and he doesn't care what you think. He's just going to tell you what he thinks and that I do respect that. He just is going to lay it right on the line that my players who collect the checks that I saw are going to literally toe that line as in, they're going to stand for the national anthem with their toes. On my line, it's my, it's called Jerry world. This guy nickname, but with toes on the outta balanced line along their sideline, your toes, you're going to be up on the line. You're not going to be back on the bench. You're going to stand. This is this is a decree from above in what. Did he call the big media session that he did yesterday, he calls it his state of the union, his annual state of the union as training camp opens out in Oxnard, California, not all that far from where we're sitting right now because he is the president owner and operator of the Dallas Cowboys. And he operates. Well. Argue he operates that way because these are his decrees for this year. This is how he feels about the end. He doesn't care what any other owner things. He doesn't care about the ongoing dialogue between the legal fishing, the players association. This is his policy. And originally it was said that each teen could sort of operate its policy the way each team one voted on his Gill. Okay, but, but within the confines of those rule, right, which was insane to me if you want to protest, you can stay in the locker room, right? Neil Bryant them. You can save you if you come out and you have them. But if you don't want to, you can stay in the locker. It was insane. Wasn't gonna work, and now it's not going to work because they're back to the drawing board trying to come up with a new idea. But in the end with Jerry, he's not going to hide what he thinks. He's not going to camouflage what he thinks and he's not going to do what Mike Brown had just done is the owner of the Cincinnati Bengals the day before, what am I Brown say? I was in St.. Acted by the league office not to comment anymore about our anthem. Paul's because there is ongoing dialogue. Well, that's the politically correct thing. Say I have to stand down. That's what might Brown said the Jerry standout. Did he care what anybody else said? What not improbably league wanted the owners not to comment because if they don't comment, maybe someone else won't comment, but we know that's not gonna stop when there's controversy swirling around daily. So I want to be very clear about this, but this is the one thing I appreciate about Jerry Jones. You know exactly who he is, who he's not..

NBA: Karl-Anthony Towns, Timberwolves reportedly ‘not in a good place internally’
"All these stories i heard you this so hard on me i mean come on thanks you're gonna lose and i saw somebody float the kyri irving for karl anthony i was thrown out there i mean come on i i highly doubt minnesota would would would do that deal i highly doubt anybody who's gonna do deal with danny ainge moving forward you're just gonna lose every time i just i here's what here's what i i did notice by karl anthony towns disappeared at times all the time even at times in the regular season during the struggle i i do wonder if maybe he just does not adapt to that type of coaching to where you sort of need to coddle him and he is and i don't wanna say soft because i don't think anybody in the nba saw maybe he just needs a little tlc as opposed to a guy grinding down like tiffany does can be one of those guys if you get hard on me start pouting a little bit in an effort and on their players like that you know so he's maybe could be one of those players that doesn't isn't conducive to that style of coaching so that's something you have to bear monitor and by the way mike mayor if you want to add a little some data context just listen to what kevin bigger said describing his theory on karl anthony towns to be perceived to be something else bombs and i don't even know what i said so mark that when mike actually interested back tara loans did he interview all one zero five three the fan in dallas earlier this week and he says that he doesn't know why jason garrett still has a job as head coach of the cowboys i you says the cowboys have not really expanded or progresses a team under his coaching tenure there despite the fact they gear it is the second longest tenure coach behind tom landry which surprised me to be honest with you but at the end of the day how can you keep along the players to be the scapegoat for what's not happening especially when you have a head coach that's supposed to be.

Terrell Owens questions how Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett still has a job
"Guess what you're in the middle of stephen with show podcast there give back to the phone terrel owens hall of fame wide receiver terra loans had a few words regarding jason garrett head coach for the dallas cowboys teo was being interviewed on one of five point three the fan in dallas and he says quote when you really look at it it doesn't make sense jason garrett to continue to have his job they are not really expanding progressing even as a team under his coaching tenure at the end of the day how can you keep allowing players to be the scapegoat for what's not happening especially when you have a head coach the supposed to be offensive minded this opposed to direct and lead the team to wear team has gotten in a number of years and they've pretty much been in a standstill under coach garrett have y'all remember jason gear was the offense coordinator for fun two years of tears running dallas two thousand seven two thousand eight te'o finishes by saying for me it's mind boggling i don't understand and i think jerry meaning jerry jones again he's the owner at the end of the day he has to feel good with himself about the decisions i just don't understand why this guy garrett still has a job a sixty eight and fifty five as head coach of the dallas cowboys it says nautical that jason garrett since taking over the job in two thousand ten the sixty eight and fifty five record makes him the second winningest coach in franchise history behind hall of famer tom landry now i think that's the tick is a joke so jimmy johnston didn't stay long enough to have as many victories but he want to super bowl championships barry switzer wanna title tom landry won titles.
