Classroom Posters at Hamilton High School Spark Controversy; LA Unified School District Issues Response

"School a high school in california where they have posters. This is the alexandra. Hamilton high school in los angeles unified school. So all william unified school district where they have posters which say want jennifer. Oh my gosh sabbath. This high school part of the la unified school district. Hamilton high has all kinds of terrible posters. Got the american flag lying on the ground. Let me read you the list of what they have. Because i don't want get this wrong. They have a palestine flag. They have a transgender flag. A pride flag. A black lives matter flag all hung prominently from the blackboard. According to some photos that were taken undercover a few parents rights groups. Got a hold of this. And they blew the whistle on this high school. The american flag while all of those other flags are hanging up in a nice prime location flung across furniture in the classroom now after they found out about this because it started to get some attention and traction on twitter with some parents groups who were thankfully appalled and this is part of the pushback in california even at the smallest level. It's coming for more parents. Getting involved with their kids classroom. Some parents groups called out l. unified. And you would think that they would say oh. We had no idea this was going on. We would remedy this situation sam. La unified school district. They knew about it and they said that they would make sure that the posters would be taken down now. Here's the problem. You've you've left out two of the posters. Oh go ahead. Sorry the police. Oh after police unleaded. Forget the america with kkk. Instead of the sea on the wall of the classrooms then on the wall of the classroom. And here's the thing and you're right. I should have said that. I because as almost more disturbing than what. They're hanging up everywhere. But here's the problem. It's not the posters. It's not the flags. It's the fact that this is who's teaching our kids. Forget about what they hang on the wall that can come up. It can come down and they can take it down now. Put a back up in two weeks. But what in the heck are they teaching our children and this is the problem with the la unified school district. And i'm gonna guess most school districts around the country that have allowed themselves to become infiltrated by the unions. The unions are now operatives for the socialist movement in this country. They are incredibly powerful in the political sphere members. Pay into this i. I've heard people on my program. And i'm going to employ people across the country if you are a teacher or if you are a person who works for a union take advantage of your rights and get out of the union if they are using the money to support political causes better not important to

"Talked to several people. Also who are work work well who worked Past tense for the biggest hospital chain. That rhymes with the people that worked with kaiser. That have just laughed because kaiser is saying they're not going to To acquiesce they're not even going to offer. They're gonna tighten up even religious exemptions So it's it's appalling that all of these people have to leave their jobs after serving us so well but these police officer said that they will walk out if they have to get the vaccine and they're willing to do other things they're willing to mask up. They're willing to take tests but they do not want to have the vaccine common. They should be no need to give a reason. Because my buddy choice. But i'm just curious in talking to them. Is that common thread as to why they don't want to because it's experimental or is in health reasons religious. What are they saying. I you know. So based on the people that i've talked to so far. It's all the reasons that you and i have talked about on the radio for months. Now it's the fact that it just hasn't been around long enough number one number two they don't want the government going down the slippery slope and this is probably the biggest of telling us what we can do. You know. I had a friend who is a pretty close friend who has got an active case of lupus and she has not gotten the vaccine yet but she also was afraid to get the vaccine. Because she's in a flare of lupus. She thinks it's going to make her sicker. She tried to get an appointment. Ucla medical center. They would not see her to treat her lupus until she got a covert vaccine and she told them that she was afraid and that she didn't wanna do it until she was. Area Libraries, Bookstores Celebrate Banned Book Week

"There is a piece in the wall street journal by the president of regna. Repoed publishing full disclosure. They are the publishers of many of my books and all of my books in the rational bible series and i have appreciated their worked tremendously. Tom spence is. The president is piece in the wall. Street journal is about banned books. So tom first of all of course. Welcome to the show. Thanks dennis happy to be here. I'll bet are and i'm happy that you are. What is there. Every year is that there's a banned books week or something. What is it called. Yes it banned books week. It's a week long promotion in the book. Trade that sponsored by the american library association the american booksellers association and several other organizations. It's the last week of september so begins. It begins next week. And it's a way to promote books that have been ostensibly banned. The the joke of it is that the books that are promoted year after year have not been banned in any meaningful sense and now the books that are in some real sense. Being banned are studiously ignored by ban. Books week policy in the book but hypocrisies two-mile a term. It's orwellian the books that are banned are not mentioned during banned books weeks and books that our peripheral band give me an example of what they say is banned so so yeah i mean obviously it depends on how you define your terms so if i if i describe a book if i tell you that a book has been banned. What does that mean to you. What's your first thought that it is no longer available to the public right. I think that's a reasonable definition. So if i'm living in soviet union in the you know nineteen eighty five. And i want to buy the gulag archipelago. Am i gonna find it kid. It's been banned right the government or somebody with authority to the power to do. It has made that book unavailable.

Wermer and i'm trying to think of other things you could apply to the cowboys first win of the season and it is here by the way we'll sort of like the open. It came down to the last few seconds that was greg's airline who was the goat. And i'm not talking about the greatest of all time. He was the goat after missing two field goal attempts to previous week against the buccaneers and appoint after temp but he was able to get it done yesterday. He lives in a he lives another week. I one a many in the first ones usually the hardest now. I'm not going to get into specifics. But there were some issues with clock management down in that final drive. The cowboys had it back with three minutes and change to go a lot more time than tom brady. Had the previous week when it was less than two minutes to go. But mike mccarthy and i don't know what was going on with keller more in their communication but they wanted to get a little farther down the field than having kick fifty six yarder but zor line had with his leg. Panthers' Matt Rhule Is Making a Bid for Best NFL Coach This Season

"I wanna talk about the best young coach football. And it's not necessarily sean mcveigh. It's clear that it's not only an indictment on the new york jets operation. But what you're seeing was sam darnold in the carolina. Panthers is pretty remarkable the knock on darnold out of college there to know with too comfortable wins but the knock on darnold out of college and i watched every snap was his accuracy issues. What does he completing now. Seventy percent of his throws. He doesn't make mistakes total composure. It would be easy to just say. This is an indictment on the jets but instead of just the negative side. Let's look realistically at the positive side. Not only has met rule made darnold more comfortable. This defense has twenty one quarterback hits and ten sacks in two games. What does that tell you. The culture of the carolina. Panthers is headed in the right direction. It also tells you. This is a remarkable stat on matt rule. The coach carolina going back to the beginning of last year. You will not believe this. Carolina leads the nfl with the fewest. Three and outs that with teddy bridgewater and start with. Sam darnold. nothing about that not mahomes. Not lamar jackson. Not tom brady. Not derek carr not matt ryan not russell wilson not aaron rodgers. No the fewest three and outs matt rule. Teddy bridgewater and sam darnold but this is a offensive line. That outside of right tackle graded poorly left. Tackle all the way to right guard. What matt rule is doing with this sub optimal often. It's of line. The scarce number of three out the revamping rebooting of sam darnold is really mind-blowing

Don't wanna jump conclusions yet. I know he will address it and will ensure that he addresses it but this is one of those claims. The whole thing is pretty far fetched. We don't want to jump to conclusions yet. Really what conclusions at the time. That interview took place this morning in an already been. Learning From Evolution With Evolutionary Biologists Bret Weinstein & Heather Heying

"You guys said that we are not a blank slate but we are the blanket of slates. Which i think is a phenomenal way to put this idea and wanna tie that to the title and get your guys as take so. It's hunter-gatherers guide to the twenty first century. and so the way that i take that is that notion. You have to understand that you're a product of evolution that your brain is a product of evolution and then once you understand the forces of evolution in how we got here. Then maybe just maybe we can find our way out of it. So what are the key elements to being a product of evolution. That you think people miss that we must understand if we're going to navigate our way well out of this valley of evolution. Let me say. I That the title hunter-gatherers guide to the twenty first century evokes that sort of romanticised hunter-gatherer on the african savannah of the paleolithic. Which of course is a part of our human history and does have many lessons in it to teach us about who we are now and who can become but as we say in the book we are all parts of our history like we are not just hunter-gatherers. We are also right now post industrialists and their evolutionary implications of that. Go a little farther back a lot. Farther back depending on your framing. And we are agriculturalists. Go farther back. Were hunter-gatherers go further back were primates were mammals. Were fish all of these moments of our evolutionary history We'll have left their mark in us and have something to teach us about both what our capacities are and what our weaknesses are and what we can do going forward. And i would add the lessons from evolution. are both good and bad here. One thing that we realized that our students over the course of many years of teaching this material realized was that everything about our experience as human beings is shaped by our evolutionary nature. And that has a very disturbing upshot because we are fantastic creatures with an utterly mundane mention the very same mission that every other evolved creature has to logic genes in the future. And this actually explains the nature not only of our physical beings but of our culture and our perception of the world so understanding that all of that marvelous architecture is built for an utterly mind-numbing purpose is an important first. So what kind of poker greatness you've been chasing in this world wind of a few months last time you're on you know you talk about your new agency above the and there's more things have been added to your plate since then. Yes it's pretty wild man. So let's see how have i been chasing over greatness. Let's see on the poker side actually started playing live tournaments again We'll talk about that later but Getting into some of these world poker tour main main tour events has been something. I've really aspired to over the last few years Since i started my actual poker training back again and Was fortunate in fortunate enough this year to have a deep run at the w. p. t. seminal hardrock tournament Finishing thirtieth out of like twenty five hundred or something so it was like the great experience to get that deep. You know inexperienced that. Because i've never been that deep you know And it's a different ballgame and So that was great. I'm gonna fire up a few more here in the next couple of months with world poker tour with online Which we'll talk about. And then also you know for the waso p coming up on the business side. Man is trying to faded spade as much as i can. Try to grow the agency. Which is is ahead of where i thought it would be and the team would be. I told you that tom i could've told you that. The demand is going to be much higher. I think when you as soon as you were describing the idea to me. I was like this makes sense and this giant need in the industry. It's a slow and steady. But it's like it's it's password. I thought it would be after six months. And thanks for saying that man And through that work with the agency A couple of really great things have happened. So one offer darren elias. Who was part of above the felt from a talent perspective. We worked out a deal for him where he is becoming the brand ambassador of the party poker. Us network which. I know you asked me what is that. And we'll get into that and then while that was all going on. You know some of the relationships i built with the people during that process They've asked me to come be a poker marketing consultant for them over the next foreseeable future. And you know help them. What is happening here. Marketing team basically. What they're asking me to do is asked me to come in and craft all new strategic marketing plans for the party poker. us network which is forgot poker online plus bet. Mgm poker plus party poker new jersey in new jersey right then in pennsylvania. You've got mgm poker and borgata poker online in pennsylvania and michigan. You've got mgm poker. And all of that together is known as the party. Poker us network. The parent company is bet mgm. So they're asking me to come in and help support their team and develop some new marketing plans in terms of how they expand in those markets. They go to him. Why the dan what what they told me is when they realize like my corporate marketing leadership background in terms of doing this type of like leadership executive work In like the hotel resort industry and technology industry. And then i think they liked the fact that there was a blend of all this entrepreneurial experience and the poker industry over the last four years and i think just how got along during the discussions about bringing darren on as a brand ambassador. I think that all came together. And they were transparent with me and said you know we have this need the company and rethink. You could fill it. It never ends many years ago. Carrie fisher was on my show and had written a book about her experiences with electroconvulsive. Therapy ec t- Which she had received for depression. I read her book. it was It was interesting it was it was truly the opposite of my experience. So yeah you you you receive. Act's a cad or as a teen. Yeah not as an. She was well into adulthood when she started with it. Yeah and it was also a different era in it as well mine was mid mid mid eighties and that was still pretty I'm the right way to say it was. The technology has advanced to the point where it's so much more precise and controlled and targeted and specific. It's basically it's basically an outpatient procedure for people. Now they go they get hooked up they get it. They go home and sleep. Maybe they have some some memory Short term memory problems here and there They come back. That's usually how it works now but for me it was. I'm in a hospital for six weeks. I'm getting this regularly. It feels like they are. I could taste the burning. It felt like getting hit by a car and most so much of my memory never came back so it was that they could not have been more. Demand was much closer to somebody that i've i've Is an important figure to me. Lou reed because it he he went through the same same thing i had of would eventually go through. His was in the late fifties so he or he got it. Late fifties early sixties. I don't know i think his was late. Fifty fifty eight fifty nine and his was just barbarric like it was a straight up there. Just electrocuting your head Then it went out of fashion for for a while and then it kinda came back in the eighties late seventies early eighties. Came back to to be Something was being utilized again. And then so i got a version. That wasn't as bad as his bowl. Isn't anything like what the current day version of it is and it was. It was rough. I mean it hurt. I remember it was like i remember. It felt like. I was poured being poured into the bed in the hospital after they did that. Just like is brutal. And you know. Look i have a lot of feelings about it. I still. I'm very there's parts of me. They're still just extremely mad about it. But i didn't have any choice. I just was it. Was that or either end up on the ton of medication that would have just shut my body down So is a pretty extreme. Pretty extreme circumstances so it was kind of like a say like a hail. Mary play but it was. It was a bold move to try to try to fix a a really bad situation and it did work. I mean i did. I got the bear. The scars of it but i stayed alive so it worked. I have to. I have to accept and acknowledge that because that's undeniable the other versions. I don't think i would still be alive now if i had ended up on. You know sor zine or whatever heavy duty drugs they would have put me on I i don't think i would be here now. I think my body would would've Would not have lasted you. Describe the pain and the physical experience of the therapy in the book. But it seems like the biggest effect that you describe. Is you know you describe your sadness about losing so much of your memory that you lost. The you just don't know Things about yourself other people do. Oh yeah now. It feels like it's like i can I can look at photos. I could look at a yearbook. I could go dig through memories and things like that. It's always i just ate. It feels like it's just by. I think i describe book this but it feels like it's there's plexiglass keeping me from it. I don't actually have a connection to those things. I can see that it had happened but they are not my memories. They.

"This is going to be a volatile one again Tom K. was telling me some stuff Kate you were saying that because it's not a secret ballot there's gonna be some folks who don't turn out maybe the Republicans don't like Donald Trump correct for now who maybe would W. they would have been willing to show their face but they can't right if you live in a small town of two thousand or less are you going to go to a democratic caucus and stand in a corner for one of the Democrats and tell all of your neighbors that you're no longer a trump supporter right not gonna happen no that's I couldn't agree more IT you know that's a part of while it's always over which in my judgment it is so public and then the consequences of their decisions you have to live within that small town or wherever you are out of the form for a long long time what is striking to me when I come back to Iowa now is that this prosperous in so many ways I was and I was sitting the other day and it's blooming over there and it is on the city the morning for example the chain profoundly but at the same time Iowans have not changed in terms of their attitude about what their obligations are you know they take there's a set doesn't ship very seriously and they everything that they do they wait until the end until they've got all flax canal you were saying something earlier about if you were Joe Biden right now you take the national poll result right now that shows Sanders actually inching ahead of me to say okay I'll SO two person race it's me or him and when you look at a two person race there's a two philosophical right socialism versus capitalism we we we tested this in our poll what's interesting is Democrats feel positively about both but among those check this out among Sanders supporters though.

The next world remind all god's as long as no extra charge if we can get injured veep we're here for you. They all also <music> offer void and get a mandolin in here. It's great you just do do any damn thing with it but <hes> but yeah i've been doing for a few years the kind of panel final that you do which is to say a beginner getting into creating music and recording panel i think i think the biggest difference between the two of us is that i've been trying to focus on people who know nothing gotcha a recording okay and because i i i i attended several panels not any yours at this point okay i. I attended a couple of years along the way in annual good stuff in there but there were some where it's like okay. We're going to tell you how to get into recording and by the time it's done okay you know by the time it's halfway done. It was breaking down into a microphone wars. There's and software wars. It's like no no you gotta have gotta have this particular. You know sure thirty nine. No no no you gotta have this p._d. And it's like the beginners eyes are glazing liaising over. It's not helpful. It's not helpful when you get in a year words on that say here. Here's what a cord is yeah. Here's what a musical physical style is here. Here's some software to try and here do this with it. You know you all need audacity download <unk> download that i kind of tried to approach it more with the knowledge about how to do things and i i try to emphasize that you can use a really low quality computer mike and somebody else who doesn't know what they're doing could use a really high quality ten thousand dollar microphone and years duffle surround better. If you know what you're doing engineering absolute and that's that's what people tend to not understand at first but then you have the truth. The gear or is less important than understanding how to use it <hes> exactly now now. It's these days with presets in the quality of software. It's less less of a thing than it used to be. <hes> people can make stuff sound pretty decent without much knowledge because okay vocal okay open the vocal preset on their the effects us come on and it'll sound okay but yeah but it's it's. It's still nice to have. The foundation of knowledge says actually doing yeah yeah. I mean got it. I'm a big fan of the y. You know. You can't really understand what how to make a decision about these things. If you don't understand why it works the way it does and once you do that brings you the good stuff so yeah totally understand so this is a thompson music machines. You can find it on facebook. Yeah excellent excellent yet definitely not 'cause <hes> believe me. There is no such things one resource to learn everything music that sounded as as as a matter of fact. I will recommend one of the best ones that i use okay is the recording revolution dot com okay now. The thing is <hes> the guy who does that. <hes> he has a program on mixing and he has programming recording. He's got a lot of stuff that he sells or tries to so and if you sign up you'll get about four or five emails will be trying to sell you stuff yeah but he's got a lot of free stuff. He's got a lot of free articles on a lot of free videos especially lots of things on youtube but youtube channel which will give you solid practical advice on beginning to intermediate.

"<hes>. I guess we heard one of your new songs. Can i throw in a a one of your classic songs from your show last year. Drank sure sneak win me getting there okay now now. This is one. I particularly like <hes> me. This is my taste so i'm totally just you know it's my podcast. I can get away with it in the alternate universe lost and found is i think that's the title right yet is the title okay and i just <hes> yeah. That always makes me laugh and it's it's. It's kind of <hes> i. I don't know if it's a commercial free <hes> commercial service or a p._s._a. Roy <unk> on non non commercials but it seemed a thing yeah the the more the song goes on the more. It's just kind of like oh my gosh yes i and that why have i not thought of this before kind of way i will i will point out something at this point all right and and this is maybe <hes> sticking sticking something on people's noses that they don't necessarily have to have one of the things that both of us talk about when we're doing our our panels on getting people into recording music is that there are gear wars all over the place. You know it's like okay. Do we a us reaper. Do we use logic brody. We use this microphone to use that studio monitor speakers we use this this that that did and it doesn't matter because the listener at the end doesn't care what year you use as long as it sounds good yeah now. It happens that this song this recording that you've got a a this this is from the life show last year <hes> from the sunday show last year. Yes the sunday show yeah. I was gonna say it's i. I think it sounds pretty good. Okay the studio recording of this also sounds pretty good but if you compare it with the mortar bed-and-breakfast recording which is from this this year all right. I've learned a bit in the last thirteen years and my mixes or solid and you can tell that and there's a couple of things in in the past. I love to go back and a remix. I gotta find the files and see if i can but it's just like if anybody out there is inspired to try recording and everything if you've been <hes> listening to andrew talk about getting into recording if you've been checking out his panels dimensions even checking on my panels practice does make perfect at least at least it improves it heavily. I am such a better engineer than i was when i first started doing this twenty three years ago. It's it's it's not even funny. It's it's i mean there's experience with knowing how to do something or tricks to make something sound a certain way but i think a lot of it the major a percentage of it is training your ear being able to hear the subtle differences between a and b it takes time you can't when you first started and you try doing very subtle effects on things and you can't tell the difference i mean you have to do it in a serious major way to be able to tell l. and then you just say well. I hope the subtle thing is good too but later it's <hes> i mean gradually your ear starts to be able to hear these very slight changes changes with just raising frequency by one point five decibels which must be something like that and it's also few learn along the way e you so you can be taught the stuff but it's it's going by feel a lot of the earliest oh yeah and the other thing that i think people have trouble figuring during out is that <hes> there is no wrong here. Absolutely.
