"What a okay. This is not blood. you know what we're looking for. I have given into this. You're absolutely right. Because i'm just yeah we gave up. We just gave up on the one hand. I'm looking forward to what. Andy circus may bring to this. And looking forward to what woody harrelson. He's directing the fucking movie right forgotten. And i'm looking forward to woody harrelson just being over the top ridiculous like i kinda wanted it. That might be good. I wanted to be like a ridiculous like eighties movie. That's you know it's cheesy. It's bad it's goofy. But you're there for the rummy bare bones were just looking for entertainment. Were not let's for faithfulness to the source material. Were not looking for faithfulness to tone or or even using storylines or anything interesting from the actual proper forever to entertainment. It'll probably be at least somewhat that. However this is what i am looking for to. 'cause there has been They've talked about some of the producers director. Whatever that there will be an emcee a crossover with the mc you that there. There is some rumors some there were like. We will eventually cross over at spiderman. We know there's going to be multi-diverse wacky nece in spiderman. No way home. Tom holland recently posted an instagram photo of himself. Not tom tom hardy. Sorry tom hardy posted a photo. He was wearing a spiderman no way home cast and crew hat and they said that in this movie is what are the odds that there's some spiderman shit going on in this movie that we will see spiderman that they are tying. This is going to be the beginning of tying it to the poll. Tom holland out of the you into the sony verse. Do you think we'll see any of that in this movie. That's what i'm watching for. You might see it but it won't make any sense or people who like probably not. Yeah i think. I mean i agree. I mean they already hinted at that moebius trailer that vulture chemo's in there and as opposed this upcoming spiderman movie might be the last one where we see him in the. Mc you other than maybe like one others mainly doctor strange very says up again in the doctor strange sequel venom. This version of venom doesn't do a lot for me. I do kind of like the angle though. If you're going to like go with it. And andy circuses obviously different direction than the first one make it like the frickin eighties and make it. Less weirdly is gonna is it rated r. Now it's pg thirteen it is. He should do rated r. venom. But they probably don't wanna cut the box office with our. But i mean they're they're hinting of possibility of spiderman crossover And that's what i guess. I wanna see. I couldn't hurt you know it's just tough to do. I mean even when you do a spiderman. Crossover like again expire mentioned. Be crossing over. It should have been should have been there to me. That's it's just such a core part of that character also rumor and talks of how they want to jump start their sinister six movie sony that they still wanna make the wanting us like the villains. We're going to see in spiderman no way home and then use well. The in some of them started. They all started over there. That could be crazy. You know sony sony. Doing anything doesn't make me live. They still don't have made the best fighter bad movies i liked into the spider verse allies..

"In video games or in movies or whatever. I don't think they've ever sort of got into the core of a watch sort of made his characters in character into comics interesting or compelling or cool to me at any rate. But then again, I mean, even the comics have sort of struggled with that over the years quite a lot, I think. So you didn't like a lot of what's his name as venom? The actor. Tom Hardy. Hardy came close, and he was, but that was, I mean, my problem with that was that's the part hardy, then it was about the movie itself, which didn't really, I think execute on the whole venom thing very well. In terms of what makes some interesting. So I'm pessimistic just because I've seen so many different portrayals of venom go wrong for me. That this will be different. But I am excited for Spider-Man two because I love the first Spider-Man game. Doom? You like or have played the Spider-Man games? I've played, yeah, I played the last one. I haven't played miles Morales. I don't have a PS5. I thought it was fantastic. Yeah, I'm excited to see. It's a safe bet, you know, in South America. Really not expecting anything like fucking groundbreaking outside of the graphical fidelity and the gameplay mechanics and stuff like that. So everything that makes a game..

"Welcome to film spotting, we will get to our Nolan Review Awards. Later in the show, we might have an for those awards picked out by. Then we might not. We will share our awards for favourite supporting performance and lead performance from this retrospective of the work of Christopher Nolan will also share our picks for best Nolan moment in the overall best moment or seen after we have revisited all ten of Nolan's films and that will culminate with our Christopher Nolan rankings. The definitive Christopher ranking for each of us one to ten will there be some shifting Adam Gimme a tease. Shifts definitely from the last time, I posted a Nolan ranking on letterbox. There's been some movement Yep me too one I think you'll like I don't know if you'll like it enough, but you will like it I though the World War Two movie from Christopher Nolan that we didn't know we needed dunkirk. The enemy tanks stop. Why? Why waste precious tanks when they can pick from the. Barrel. Their full hundred thousand men only speech. Your position. Josh, coming into this rewatch was that done kirk is Christopher, Nolan's best film and there's at least one longtime listener and regular commentator who agrees with you that we are culminating this overview triumphantly with the filmmakers greatest achievement Adam Grossman in Vancouver says like many of us. I've completed my Christopher Nolan Review. Biggest takeaway hoover is a really hard were dispel. Well, second takeaway. I've decided dunkirk is Nolan's career highpoint while my heart loves interstellar the most good on you Adam and I. Hugely Admire. and. The Dark Knight for what they meant to Action Cinema and Superhero movies respectively dunkirk is his masterpiece got laid down for you tenant. I just don't know how anyone could argue that the legend of dunkirk could be told any better the setup and the first eight minutes alone from the falling paper from the sky to the distress. Cry of where's the bloody air force is a wonder of a short film. In itself, the lack of dialogue works perfectly for what this movie wants to achieve with. Hans. Zimmer's relentless scored doing all the audio work that's necessary among all the chaos. There are frequent moments of grace. Kenneth. Branagh face as Commander Bolton as the cavalry arrives in the form of the civilian vessels the empathy as Peter Tells Killian Murphy's PTSD soldier. The young George will be okay and no moment more than the shot. Be Okay and no more than a shot of Tom Hardy's planes silently gliding over the beaches of dunkirk knowing his job has been done. dunkirk is also uniquely Christopher Nolan Movie One where his signature use of time has never melded together better and more cohesively than it does in the final twenty minutes of this film while Dunkirk will understandably never be a wholly enjoyable or easy rewatch. It's one that gets richer and richer with repeat viewing. Now, Adam Mention Nolan signature use of time, and that is one aspect of dunkirk among others that certainly connects to his entire body of work. But there are other aspects that Mark Dunkirk is unique. It is only film that is based on historical events, which means it is inherently rooted in the past and yet I'd argue it is only film that truly feels present tense meeting there are no. Dead parents or wives or forsaken children or other tragic events haunting the air's barrier played by Tom. Hardy the Moles Army private Tommy fiene whitehead or for the most part the sees Mr Dawson played by Mark Rylance like all Nolan protagonist there's plenty of personal sacrifices on display but no guilt no sense of futility about toning past actions just the seemingly futile need to survive the current event that they. Are Tragically experiencing here's something else that argues unique about dunkirk as we every other commentator on Dolan's work is discussed in some form or fashion for all those dead parents and wives and foresaken children. There's nothing so emotional or borderline sentimental in any of his previous films as the climax of inception and yes, mileage may vary there which led to interstellar and not only mcconaghy's crushing breakdown watching twenty three. Years Worth of miss video messages from his family but the verbalize message love is the one thing we're capable of proceeding that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that even if we can't understand it, it's hard to imagine any character in previous Christopher Nolan movies saying something like that which led to Dunkirk am I crazy josh this is his most blatantly sentimental and even heart film. And if so is that what establishes Dunkirk as his best its balance of coldness the sober portrayal of the hell of war of life in the misguided choices, some men will make when facing death with warmth. In the compassionate inspiring choices some men will make to maintain a way of life. So a lot of subtleties in that question and you're onto something so you're not crazy I think I would distinguish. The word blatantly, I. Don't think this is blatantly emotional or moving, but I do think you're onto something in the fact that it is maybe his most heartwarming in where it ends up and let me kind of try to parse those. You're right as long as the Nolan Canon has convulsing McConnell. Interstellar is going to be his most blatantly emotional I mean you can't have a scene like that without registering that on it surface. That's his most emotional movie. But I will also say that I find Dunkirk to be his most emotionally affecting movie maybe even more. So than inception, which we about how I did find that very moving especially in the character of Mal. So yet dunkirk is really a unique thing even as it's working within the strands and trends that we have been tracing in Nolan's other films, I. Think the heartwarming aspect is probably a part of that. You've nailed it there in that it brings us to a place that. Is One of Constellation and I think it's earned because I think up until that point we have just been suffering alongside all of these other characters in so many ways and we've also been recognizing as the movie does that this is You know a an account of a military failure, a huge defeat and so for the movie to kind of offer, some sort of solace at the end of that I think is. In proportion and well

"Back and Let's bring in super producer. Hosea because she is the person who. Turned us on to the capone. The new capone movie with Tom Hardy and the miles and Ana or going to tell us about poem. What what did you guys learn? Real quick. Can I say I had no idea that riverdale was based off the archie comics. And truly what I've been archie I know just wait. Around people watching it, and they say the character's names and every time I'm like. Those, that's so funny. They use the same I'm not even joking. I literally just thought it was a coincidence that they all had the same names. It was. Impossible that this show had anything to do with the arch. Never thought about it that much like I was always like. That's funny junk had. Isn't that from that one comment look? Further. Complete with you because like if you look at it from his face value where you see like this red ginger fist fighting a bear like there's no way this is about the s- The comic about getting like egg creams and eating hamburgers right? It was just a standalone like weird teen drama like nothing in my mind connected any of those. When I learned on upset, because it was like that doesn't add anything to this show at all like this. Just, Riverdale, everyone who has red hair, and this is like a person who's never seen red headed persons. Of! What a red headed person would be like. It's like such fake red hair. This is so weird, but literally like half of the CAST has as the same red hair jarring tone. But Capone. We talked recently about how I talked recently about how my theory that people are going to be obsessed with like those. Thirties criminals. Maybe we'll get our own robin hoods because were heading into our on depression I dunno, the the this whole thing started off with Anna laughing. Being like I. Don't know if you guys seen capone. I saw. She's like I. Don't know what to think, but she was laughing, so she seemed like it was entertaining enough to watch Jack. You said that you read a tweet that said they didn't know. If Tom Hardy was trying to either win an Oscar or Razzie or do both simultaneously. I. Feel like that is probably the most accurate tweet awhile. Of what this film is it of it like vacillates between like moments like wow, this is interesting. Two points on my I turn this. Bid The lusted. But yeah. I mean entered the. The voices are honestly I'm a bit of a Tom Hardy accented I look. I love a Tom Hardy accent. Ice Watches movies because I love his accent WanNa. See what? Yeah correct like any revenue lock lawless all these films where you're like. What is he bringing to the table? But it's fascinating to see. This actor where it's enjoyable, because you know Tom Hardy's having a good time doing. is saying cut? They're like put. Tom Hardy to run around this Miami Mansion. We will just film him like doing Tom Hardy at the fullest in A. I don't know a lot about AL capone I don't know. Like at the end like. Was, going on. It's. The grandma's spongebob. But like a Brooklyn accent. That's fading. It's absurd yes. Oh, a first of all. It's another the other interesting thing is it's one of those films doer. He plays look so alkap own like had syphilis from the time he was like in his teens basically like into into until death. Basically so this is the last year of his while so he is out there. He's just an absolute mess. You can't. He can barely see. He's senile. He's having strokes. He's literally shitting the bed in ways I've never seen film or a lasting. shitting the bed the. Yes yes, yes. Drops Duke on camera brought. Dropping, it looks like when they're putting focused succo on the side of a Bill Oh. Wow I this. I gotTa Ran May. Plays may his wife is like what the fuck. This. This poor woman is being like oh no. They. Don't call him. Al You're not allowed to call them. They all want him fond and she goes. Back come on. Hbo Ma.

Joker, Commentary

"Going to be a podcast her everyone laughed at me well no one's laughing now and Stewart and this is the host who always has negative thoughts Jacob joker a movie that I could not believe have the height around it that it did I can't recall the last time a superhero film was Ben so polarizing I mean people worried about shootings in theaters people saying Joaquin deserves an Oscar yeah it was all over the place coming out of Toronto Oh this is going to be the film of the year it's going to get all the Oscars and then Todd Phillips director opens his mouth and got a lot of backlash for what he thought we're comedy was these days yet all the place with this film that said I got to say this one took me by surprise I assumed that DC was in free fall. I mean we have all commented on how their output has been inconsistent can we all agree at best putting it nicely right that they have not had the scene unless nece that the Marvel Universe has been able to bestow on all of their works when I heard they were doing a one off joker movie I was like that sounds like a bad idea story are you getting those marvel paycheck saying they're in free fall I mean wonder woman made one of a billion dollars off man made a billion dollars what kind of free was that will somebody say well I don't care what the hardcore people think the truth of the matter is a lot of their movies have stone DOC and they've not consistent the fact that we have a one of joker movie this joker that we're told will never appear with Batman what the hell are they doing marvel would never do that is what I guess I would say sure but I don't mind that like what is the best spider man film Spiderman entered the spider verse like that is not connection to the m. c. you or what Sony is doing with Tom Allen's spider manoeuvres etta any of that so I don't mind a one off if you can just pull off a good movie I don't care if it's in any kind of continuity villain standalone movies making a Superhero movie without a superhero has not been something I've thought has worked before I mean Holly Aries cat-woman Tom Hardy thinom they could never figure out how to do sinister of six I mean you could even probably throw the Star Wars prequels into that concept having the super villain story told without a counterpoint of heroism where's our entry point who are we supposed to be with and what are they going to accomplish the you mentioned marvel I think that DC here is taking a cue from Marvel's newest acquisition Fox Todd Phillips talked about how it took a lot of convincing at Warner Brothers to let him do an R. rated joker movie but that was the only thing he was pitching and he's literally hearing responses from Warner brothers like we sell joker pajamas at target what are you going to do to our character that might hurt Pyjama sales and look at the roads that deadpool paved and I think even more specifically logan going more dramatic and being R. rated you can't beat marveled by playing Marvin those game the way you beat marvelous by making your own Fox did that and nobody is even see new mutants because nobody knows what to do with it again the X. Men horror movie yeah they've experimented sometimes those experiments have been successful I'm just saying approaching this project hearing the we're going to do a one off film about the region of joker seemed like a waste of time I was not excited about this movie at all until I saw the trailer Yeah Al admit I mean after seeing what happened to jared Leto in jokers role in suicide squad. We'll see at that movie he doesn't think he was in that movie enough he's got a scene it was not overly excited to see what they would do with joker now what I will say is somewhere at this very moment jared Leto has pissed Yeah Joaquin Phoenix get attached this because that's what I would have gotten excited you know he's one of those actors like Tom Hardy who's like a Nicholas cage who is just going to make some decisions and go with them they could be czar. They could be captivating like that trailer yeah they really tapped into Martin Scorsese in that taxi driver field but I was even more excited about Joaquin Phoenix playing this role and should be pointed out he is the man that would be doctor strange he has quartered comic book movies before and walked away saying this is not really for me why do this one he was also offered the role of Bruce Banner the reason he didn't do them he didn't WanNa sign multi picture contracts he didn't want to do what Chris Evans and Robert Downey junior did where the next seven years of your life you're working basically as a day player for marvel here it's a one picture deal and the ways they got him on board for this one it was Todd Phillips again Joaquin was connected from the very beginning and the Pitch Phillips gave him is we're going to make a real movie but we're going to get warner brothers to fifty million dollars for it by calling it fucking joker yeah how did Todd Phillips and doing this because I've seen a lot of his films old cool that hangover trilogy these are not things that I associate with a Gritty New York Scorsese style film you saying that and coach when I look at this filmography I hadn't seen most of what he meant. Yeah they're bad comedies well he makes kind of comedy I don't patronize the I'm not ever interested in watching skin hutch that's just not something I'm going to see I did see war dogs which I actually thought it was a little underrated I thought it was pretty good it's okay yeah kind of fell apart at the end yeah thought it was decent as well and it was four dogs that actually got this happening as he was at an early screening of war dogs with Warner brothers and realize is is exact phrase was war dogs wasn't going to set the world on fire as so he started talking to Warner about what could we make that's going to really get attention and do a little bit more be a little more provocative look way down on his resume his first film and you might actually see why he really got the Gig I was doc I didn't realize I had always heard about this documentary about the punk icon singer G- yeah I did not know top Phillips did that I have seen it ooh those are some live performances you wanna be careful with he strips down throws a species tough stuff to watch yeah I watched the movie I was like Oh I've always wanted to see it this gives me an lent reason it may be the closest of all his films to joker it begins with an actual endorsement from John Wayne Gay see another killer clown so yeah brutal I don't know that I'm telling people I recommend that experience be prepared I don't say this lightly it is very punishing it is very hard set is provocative and ways a lot of people probably want appreciate but you can't see a director who's very much trying to confront a freak entertainer and I do think at a core G G Allen and joker are two sides of the same coin so I would be interested to see a guy that came from punk rock bring a punk rock aesthetic to of joker movie if we must Gotcha Joker Origin Story. I WanNa say though I'm hesitant because I mean I always liked the way Keith Ledger played it how did I get my scars there's a danger and telling US definitively how joker came to exist right. There's something about the mystery we want to leave I've always liked the mystery the funny thing and you can go back to books and Nachos where in our talks about the killing joke written by Alan Moore the joker says I always change my story but here's the version I'm going to tell of my own gin and they tell an origin story and then just as origin story we're just GonNa make that the real thing but yeah I've always preferred him to be like Batman rewritten so obsessed with origin Martha Thomas Wayne Getting Killed and the pearls and walking out Zora all of that that has been told so many times joker being the opposite of Batman I liked that you just this mysterious chaotic clown figure that comes out of nowhere yeah I've definitely was thinking the killing joke when watching this and how it took elements of that in that Comic Book Joker was a failed stand up comedian who was kind of down on his luck in a rundown older Gotham city but I came in I think we might be seeing virtually and adaptation of the killing joke minus all the Batman stuff no they definitely go in a different direction with this but it gave them a good starting point and joker said he likes his origin story to be multiple choice. DC is having both ways they're gonNa make their continuity multiple choice switch movies do you want and continuity go ahead that's weird for me that we're seeing something that I should not think of as a comic book movies essentially what they're telling me don't worry I'll have nothing to do with Zam Aquaman wonder woman and all of that I mean did they even have that DC logo they have that old school Warner Brothers logo show up no DC logo okay and yet I mean it's not just your average comic book movies this movie's doing bigger than a lot of films I mean it's opening bigger than the average thor film it's maybe not topped here it's not spiderman but I'm not really it's no atman though it's beaten that man right yeah this is going to have a ninety million joining in the US. The biggest October release of all time is it Halloween in the mood for something kind of scary after it we want another killer oh but it's shocking to me the box office for what essentially feels a little art film is so huge and that it's rated R. You can't get teenagers in which is where marvel makes its money is they are aiming specifically at thirteen to seventeen year old market with their PG thirteen films and yes adults can like it in younger kids can like it but they're keeping that content for a rated R. Film in an error where in my experience it's much harder for young people to get into a rated R. Film that it made this much money is shocking to me I expected it to do well I didn't expect it to break venoms record

Todd Phillips Joaquin Phoenix Warner Brothers DC Joker Marvel Director Jared Leto United States Jacob Toronto Martin Scorsese Stewart Oscar Batman Nicholas Cage BEN Keith Ledger Tom Hardy

Sony and Disney kiss and make up over 'Spider-Man'

"Was revealed this morning that Spiderman will stay in the marvel cinematic universe. What do we know Brad. That's right. Spiderman is back in the marvel cinematic universe at least for the foreseeable future in a surprise announcement today today from both Sony pictures and Walt Disney Studios the two announced that they have struck a new deal Kevin Feige to produce a third film in Spiderman Franchise that will be released on July sixteenth twenty twenty. One with Tom Holland back as Spiderman and on top of that the deal also includes an appearance France by spider man in a future marvel studios film though it has not been named specifically which movie that might be in the press release. Kevin Feige said quote I'm thrilled at spiders journey in the NCAA will continue and I and all of us models are very excited that we get to keep working on it. Spiderman powerful I kind of hero whose story crosses all ages audiences inches around the globe he also happens to be the only hero with a superpower to cross cinematic universes so as Sony continues to develop their own spidey verse. You never know what surprises the future might hold will so that sounds like an interesting hint as to what the future might hold for Spiderman perhaps existing both in the Marlton a medic universe and Dan maybe a separate Spiderman Universe that Sony pictures controls and that makes sense considering Kevin Feige previously hinted that it was likely a crossover with Tom. Holland Spiderman and Tom Hardy's venom would eventually

"Spider-Man" Is Leaving The Marvel Cinematic Universe

"So here's the way this works Marvel creates a spider man Stanley creates spider man Marvel's got the rights to it for years Marvel which wasn't really producing movies end up selling the rights to Sony so then we get the Tobey Maguire version of spider man in the in the beginning of this century and so we see those movies they're wildly successful Sonny tries a reboot with this guy Andrew Garfield I thought the movies were fine but they were critically reviewed very poorly and audiences were not really going for it either they didn't make what they want in the box office so Sony finally gets over itself and says okay fine we'll work with Marvel on this incredible cinematic universe that they've created with Iron Man and all these other characters they put them all together in this giant marriage that work out the contracts the right way and ends up being a smashing success well it's over we get news yesterday spider man is now leaving the Marvel cinematic universe Tom Holland who's played the character really well in the latest movies well not apparently be although there is a some hope still hanging out there apparently be a part of any more of these Marvel cinematic universe's movies and instead Sony's just gonna hold onto I'm selfishly because they can't agree on you guessed it money for more on this we got Victoria Gleick is the executive producer filling in this morning for our heather hunter Victoria I know you watch all the stuff really closely checks to me about this yesterday to me America you were very disappointed in the US yes it's funny because my friend Logan shot out to him texted me and I ended up texting this Chris plan if I weren't twenty two I would be angry crying right now just because I think Marvel did such an amazing job with spider man and Sony and they kind of saves the character concerning I think mess it up some with Andrew Garfield Andrew Garfield am and it's I could enter Gardasil right actor and they did but they did the same thing with the new venom movie like Tom hardy would have been he is the perfect venom any such a great actor but they made such a forgettable movie yeah I hate that I did I said this to you yesterday and I hope this is right in the long run I kind of hope that these studios these major studios do maintain some distance from one another and and create products to compete because it doesn't seem like Disney's taking over everything I mean Disney on think about what does the US Disney owns the Muppets Disney owns Star Wars the entire franchise Disney owns all of marble Disney owns Disney ESPN and ABC I mean you just got unless you don't fox now you don't everything fox's ever produced all the movies that's on by Disney now no Disney plus is coming out the streaming service what is it next in two months or so October I believe they're coming out the streaming service to compete with net flex and they own everything the behemoth I'd like to see a Sony Sony studio exist that can actually produce something to compete with Disney because it feels like everything's a little to consolidate it now I agree with that but I just think taking that character that belongs to the Marvel universe is just absurd to me what's the contract on this and how long to Sony get to use the spider man character do we now it's like a crazy agreement they get a spider man four ever at the to the expense of Marvel and the thing that bothers me is that kind of set it up in the last movie far from home as far from home yes far from his when he goes overseas yeah they set it up in the last movie that he's is basically going to be the main adventure spider man and I was like the conflict he was having throughout the movie is like he wasn't sure if he was basically ready to be the main Avenger yeah so I don't really know what their plan is also the last movie ended on a cliffhanger I'm not gonna say what it is I haven't seen him yeah but ends on a cliffhanger and I'm just like and he's done really well for John by the way they've they've earned over a billion dollars worldwide so far on that movie it's been the I think the only smash success of the summer has been that's vitamins anyway it's wild he's a good he's good at that role but once again he's not actually American is neat nice British yeah what's what's the deal here I can we get Americans the plate American superheroes I have no idea but I think you did amazing and I think a lot of fans are very emotionally attached to Tom Holland as writer man why no one who is thank

"But it on the poll Guillermo did Tom hardy mail it in. I mean, there's not a lot of movie opinions today. He was just talking about demolition man again. Non-stop non-stop Jamaran about demolition, man. I have until the end of the segment to take back take. Right. I'm going to take back. Tom hardy doesn't mail anything in this means war from two thousand and twelve starring Chris, pine and Reese, Witherspoon, all male that one, and it was fun Oh, like. was like this means war. It was fun. You didn't like venom. Exactly. Yes. I didn't like venom. You guys have opposite movie tastes. I mean, rotten tomatoes, now I can't be pointing to critical scores in our audience venom. Got crushed. Right. But, but it was critics or audience was okay with it. Yeah. Audiences loved venom to the tune of eight hundred and eighty five million dollars worldwide. We know the worldwide numbers don't count. Those people will watch anything domestically though. It was also viewed as a commercial success, the movie struggle, but why do you guys have such divergent opinions? But on demolition man. You, you unite and you saw together demolition men's one of the greatest films ever made. It brings a cross people from worlds apart, like thin. Hey, LeBron James, one of the greatest basketball players ever, like no one's going to argue that one. You know, he's definitely one of. I've been arguing against you guys put demolition man. I like it as a big stupid action movie. You guys put it at at in the hall of fame, and I do not. That's all a well, how is it that we watched it the other day, maybe about nine days ago? I know because I was tweeting about it, and not only was it great action, right? Great performances by Stallone, and Wesley Snipes. Right. Dutiful. And by the way, the reason why Dennis Rodman started dying his hair. But more than that, it was so forward, thinking the things that they saw on the future that we all laughed at us ridiculous. Many of them came through, like, Simon says died, for instance, Arnold Schwarzenegger's political Esperidiao ones. Nail that one? They knew it, you didn't know it in ninety two or one that movie came out. They were wrong about the seashells yet I just. So, like the clamp them together, how the guy doesn't know how to use the seashells. Use the seashells guys he's such a good. You don't use the seizure. The rise of veganism. Demos, man. Knew that was coming Taco Bell, winning the fast food chain wars, fancy taco bells though. Vanc- taco bells are real thing. We have to talk about resort. We got the Cantina taco bells at serve beer, liquor. Right. They knew it was coming. You laughed is Taco Bell won't even be around the mound singer. You know who that lounge singer was Dan, one, Dan Cortes, who came away playing two different roles in that movie? Yeah. Yeah. We've actually done the segment before you guys feel this is. It felt a millionaire. The rejoin. Garden in the valley up the jolly green giant. He just saw the movie nine days ago though. And he was badgering me during the break saying to me you don't understand. Demolition man was a more of an oracle about what would happen in the future. Then back to the future was with some of the stuff that they did. In fact, put it on the pole Guillermo at lebatardshow, which of those two movies, foretells, the future, the better. Yeah. Demolition man or back to the future, the organized social shaming of people using language deemed offensive. Right. Like demolition man you'd cursing. You've been fined one credit right now. They will you sound just like, wow, you are amazing those that is you've only got two good impersonation three..

"Hey wasn't this stuff to blow your mind my name is robert lamb and i'm joe mccormick and we begin with the first five stanzas of thomas hardy's epic on the sinking of the titanic the convergence of the twain we didn't read the whole poem because i think the first half is better than the second half i don't do you remember that one robert no i'm not as up on this one but i am now seems that we should have read this in one of the many voices of the actor tom hardy that would have been lovely yeah that would have been good or do abilities ain't impression from the movie titanic oh yeah yeah yeah you know one of the interesting things about this poem always is that it was supposed to be like a memorial for the sinking of the titanic but there's just like not even a hint of sadness or grieving for the lives lost is just like celebrating the irony of the ship sinking yet and and in the section that we read here there's just a lot of almost kind of ghoulish gloom obsessing with just sort of the mysterious nature of the shipwreck yeah so there's the irony of the opulence going down and then being surrounded by the worm and the the the moon dim moonlight fishes that swim around at the bottom of the sea because that is a really captivating image isn't it like taking this like the ultimate bloom of human vanity and riches and mechanical design and opulence and all that and then putting it down at like the deepest hell there is on planet earth the bottom of the north atlantic it is kind of the ultimate irony the ultimate middle finger from nature but of course shipwrecks are thing that you know it's it's not like the titanic was the first ship to ever sink in fact i think maybe we should start with the trivia question we know the answers from the for this because we discussed it ahead of time but i want you the listener out there to think about this trivia question how many total shipwrecks do you think there are on the bottoms of the world's oceans going back through all human history you know there's at least one because we tanny and despite that one film nobody has has raised the titanic they make a movie where they brought it up that there was a film like raise the titanic i think it was called it was one of these let's not quite a disaster it was i think it was on the heels of all the disaster films as i recall in i'd never saw it but it had a really it was a really weird concept it seems for film okay okay so the question is how many total shipwrecks in human history to be fair estimates vary nobody can know this number you just have to have a rough guess so guess maybe on the order of magnitude that you would be thinking like before i had read these answers before it thought it through i probably would've guessed maybe on the order of like i dunno fifty thousand or so even that seems like a lot like fifty thousand ships ships are huge that maybe it couldn't be that many but let's look at some external answers according to a few experts so according to the mass market adventure novelist and underwater explorer clive hustler who i always always forget that he was also an underwater adventure yeah so you like you see his books in every airport bookstore i think he rides i don't know i've never read one but i think they're like adventure novels about like oh a submarine saying somebody has to go down and get the treasurer out of it i dunno submarines carry treasure i may be mixing john ras there but it's all underwater stuff ed so but he's an actual underwater explorer as well and in his forward to a book about shipwrecks by the archaeologist james delgado there are more than one million shipwrecks from history from the history of human civilization and actually there are estimates that are even higher figure off incited by the intergovernmental oceanographic commission of unesco they've cited that the best testament is about three million or even over three million and of course that's going to this going to entail everything from dinghies to treasure barges yeah but even then that's that is such a high number how could there be three million shipwrecks at the bottom of the ocean it just seems impossible but then i started i started trying to do.

But like, he's just he isn't like, you know, he's not he's not being like in real life. No, no, no God. That was loud. Big Jon Hamm on the other night. Yeah. Big my huge. But he's big. I heard. Great. You know? The more famous stories here. The other guy who came up to me when I was at the clippers warriors thing as the first game I've gone to for clippers game this year in Quinton Richardson stopped courtside see magic rate. Yeah. And he he DAT me up and said, I believe with you. And he said that he and dairy smiles was also in attendance at the game. He said launching a podcast. I said all right. Well, if you want, and I'm like, I'm not doing this to try to get get anything out of it other than to help you guys out because I was huge Darius guide, especially when he was going to be a Saint John's commit, but we all knew that was gonna happen. So I got really excited about that for a little bit. But yeah, quitting Richardson said he used to love the show, and they're so be on the lookout for Q and area smiles launching a podcast at some point. I don't know where it's going to be so, yeah, I think we kinda covered all of this. I'm trying to think of somebody who's a non athlete at ESPN that I would be afraid of. What about our? He's he's kinda sneaky big, right? Yeah. And he does he does work out. And then he's gonna have series endurance because of the Aspen stuff, and I could see him getting mad. But I would I would try really hard in that fight. So. Qatar? I mean, oh, wait a minute. Wait. Well, you know, I don't know. I don't know arms are the size of my torso. But I think I'd be able to take them low. I do and he knows this. He knows this. But he's got there's some stuff going on upstairs there where he might go real bad real quick just snap. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, people thought I was having a hard time at the end in west Hartford. My god. I I had people. I didn't know that Jim coming up to be like you talked to that guy. Right. They can't just he's listening to master of puppets. And it's it's arms day again back on. All right. So that was really extended. I don't know how many people I think look we always know how it goes people end up liking that stuff and far more than the other stuff. But that's a little gift to to people that have worked at ESPN. That'll listen all that stuff. Trying to think of somebody else just trying to think of one more media guy. Fowler's good poll. And there's somebody were missing there's somebody you're gonna go. Oh, yeah. Good one. Good one. Randy, Scott, probably not sorry. Randy. And he listens lot. No offense. Then get some size. But he would he would be like, hey, dude. I'm just four fitting like I don't want to do this. I mean, he might be last. I think I'd pick him last. And that's not because he yeah. He would just go. I have no interest in this. I don't care you win. Which is I don't I don't wanna do this. Yes. Niki meathead. But then he slimmed down. Yeah. Yeah. Mcshea had that mcshea was was like two twenty. He's kind of an athlete though. I would consider him an athlete. We're not gonna go that far though. All right because he was on the scout team after his freshman year in. That's where we learned how to watch film like, hey, you're never gonna play. We're doing his own read now on that guy. Yeah. Totally. I mean, it's it's one of those odd the Cosmo's come together where it's like you're never gonna play so break downtown tape, and they're like this guy's insanely could at this..

There was some really really kick ass scenes, but it was a crappy movie see because I'm a big fan of Tom hardy too. He I mean, the good news is that it was not very long. So it didn't really cost me too much. But it was not good. Okay. Okay. So the wealthy barber. I'm not I'm not done with it yet. I'm almost done. It's definitely for beginners. But sometimes it's good to revisit the basics. You know? So for people looking for easy to digest personal finance books. I do recommend it. Okay. I read a book last week or over the last two weeks such as say that was really excellent called the coddling of the American mind. And it spoke a lot about what's going on in college campuses and the safe spaces and how he got there and spoke while point about how the year you were born influences your politics, which was worked from the New York Times. And it really packed a punch. I highly highly recommend it who wrote down. It was I'm sorry. I only know one of the one of the authors names is Jonathan his lesson is H A T. So is it out of inhaled? Yeah. Yep. And then the other person I've Greg something I'm sorry. I don't remember his name. Highly highly recommended it was excellent. And oh, I want to tell you this and was done. But so last week I spoke to you about the iphone and how when you hang up on somebody on FaceTime. You like you buy accent you hit somebody else's face. I'm your scrambled to close the thing. So there's a lot of talk about automation and voice and is at the future. So this morning he was freezing. And I called, Robin. And it said you have to Robbins of your phone book, Robert Smith or Robin battening. So I said called Robert Smith. And then it said, okay, dialing Edberg Otto. No, no, no, no, no. By by begging. I grabbed a timeless early. And I think Ed is on the west coast. I was not a low hung up hung up. And then it says, okay, FaceTime ING, John. And I was like, no, no stop. This is like simple audio stuff. So so color me skeptical that we're going to have flying cars and five years. Okay. Before we go. I got one question for you. Okay. As a ball, man. How do you make the decision to wear a hat? You're wearing a Nike hat right now, you Bicket. Yes. So how do you make the decision to wear a hat? You be more specific is your head cold. Oh, okay. So ended up why you decided to wear a hat inside. So I'll tell you exactly why since he asked in the morning eyewear a winter hat, but it's too hot on the subway. So our winter sweater. I'm a winter sweater. So I usually just take my hat off. But I haven't shaved my head in a few in like, maybe two weeks sloppy. So that's why I'm going to have inside the now all the hard hitting stuff you need to know here. All right. Thanks, everyone. For listening. Being hit us up animal spirits, potted Djamil dot com. We'll talk next week.

"But but I went there was like ten guys there. So it was cool. I really if there's going to be ten guys there. I probably wouldn't have gone because I felt bad because I told them for sure I was coming. And then the ace pool out at Kensington is probably thousand bucks, and it was two thousand seven hundred before today expecting to fill up the entire course. And that's five dollars a head. So that's maybe up to another five six hundred dollars in it. So it's well over it was well over three grand today. Tried to find out. I don't I'm sure if somebody would have hit I would've heard see see somebody. Yeah. What about on one of the pages? Same reason. I know that even up that. Yeah. But so yeah. So I didn't think anybody was gonna show. So I felt that. So I was like I gotta go, and then I showed up and there's like ten guys they're planning crappy crappy weather and Spindler's as a new course, there's not peds in yet and everything was slick in muddy, and I was just slipping on everyone. No excuses. I played like crap. But as a combination of things, I mean, do not let the other guys weren't having agreed to either. I almost as twenty four though. Nice. Yeah. As twenty four which one is twenty four now is at the one track the long hill, the long Keevil. So the wonder thrown back at it. Yes. You walked past it Novak. They switched into. Yeah. Yeah. So right now the final hole is it's about a two eighty to an island. Almost almost say the skip base on it. I feel confident that I almost had one of the first days on that. It was the day for Mike Pamplona, Jeff the first as their official. Yeah. I didn't I didn't actually came really close. So you have thirteen over, and I didn't even realize that it was up thirteen today. So it was assigned from above. I just hope when teen to helpfully get up to twenty and twenty five I don't match those two. So I was done on buddy. Dude about it was pretty sweet, dude. I wouldn't say it was as good as it wasn't as good some of the other marvel movies. It was it wasn't spectacular. But it was pretty sweet, you know, good action. Not a lot of not a lot of BS. But yeah, I don't think it's going down as one of the greatest ever mixed reviews. I mean, I wanted to see I want to see if I've heard a lot of it was terrible. And a lot of it wasn't bad. I mean, it seemed like they were like, hey, Tom hardy, Piton hearty, right? And they kinda like, yeah. He had like two bracelets on at one point. Then he had like six bracelets than it was back to 'cause they were probably just shooting different scenes in different orders that the first time you, oh, absolutely. I noticed crap. Like that. Being in this business. I'm very continuity based and. Yeah. Like index finger ring on the entire time. I didn't understand like why? Joe's tool to get. Our comic nerd is there any lower of Brockway, and greens bracelets is there anything. I don't must just be movies. Like, I said, they just let Tom hardy beat. I'm hardy. I think Tom Hardy's tight. He. He's good. He looks like a bed. I have a.

"Her name calling her only that girl he directs her through his assistance, and he goes beyond ignoring his leading lady, and he works to actively sabotage the movie Marnie itself, making sure the final edited version was as bad movie as he was capable of making. It's not that good. It's not that good because he fucked it up right and on purpose. Yeah. He burned his own movie to the ground in order to hurt Tippi Hedren for not responding kind of has the same tactics. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. With with with the shining. You know, he put Shelly devolve through some shit. Yeah. Which it's similar, and it's one of those things there's always if you've got a great director whose job in that case is to get traumatic acting out of to get someone to act like they've been traumatized. Yeah. There's always a degree like even like George Miller in the making of a Mad Max fury road. Uh-huh. That talk about how like a great movie, great movie brilliant movie. There's that talk about how what's his name Batman, Christian bale, not Christian bale fucking. Oh hardy, Tom hardy. What is the other main? Yeah. Yeah. He's being. Yeah. Tom Hardy's like hanging beneath this truck, and like his kid is like watching as they do the stunt where he's like underneath a truck by wires and his kid asks George Miller like what happens if the wires break writers like, oh, they're really strong wires. They won't break. And because like, yeah. But what happens if it breaks, and he's like, well, I guess your dad's go onto the wheels. He's been last your dad's done here. Dad was Bain. He'll be fine. He'll probably be fine. Yeah. He survived that monstrosity. But there's always a degree. If you're a great, directing you're trying to get a great performance, specifically an actor to act traumatize degree of emotional fucker. There'll always be some even great directors who aren't necessarily shitty people when you get caught up in aren't like that. You'll do some things that are on the line. You know, I think Hitchcock crosses that line. Yeah. Well, you know, what it is to? It's like in Cuba, six state. He you know, he didn't have actors as good as Nicholson. Yeah. So to measure up he had to fuck with them. He had to fuck with them. And maybe that one I don't know enough about that to save. He crossed a line or not. It's always a risk dare making. There's like a making of shining. If you watch and you can see her kind of breaking down. And it's the same thing in like Apocalypse Now where you see a Marsh, gene where he's like injuries himself badly while drunk onset in that opening scene. Cuts himself in his. Bleeding everywhere and Cuba your site. Now. Keep going oh, you mean rolling? Oh, sorry Coppola. Yeah. That's why I'm here. I'm bad. I'm bad at this. I'm bad at all this except for reading about creepy things people do so hitch got enough to deal with Hitchcock's biographer spot. Oh, calls Tippi Hedren Hitchcock's last. Great obsession in arguably his downfall spot. Oh, argues that after Marnie he never made another great movie in that. He may never even made another good movie that this broken. Yeah. Frenzy is pretty interesting for the subject matter. But yeah, you're right. I mean, he's definitely like going down. Yeah. In like, the fact that he sabotaged Marnie is kind of like, that's sort of where this guy is mind breaks. He's kind of losing. He's kind of loses it after that. While he would live on until nineteen eighty his life was increasingly devoid of meaningful work filled with food ill-health too much alcohol in an increasingly cold and perpetually sexless relationship with this is also when I saw him on many interviews, and he was really funny. Yeah. I mean, he's he's got that sort of charm. Yeah. I want to say he has a really good dick cabinet interview. Yeah. Around that time, but he's not producing his great films anymore. He's become he's already a legend. Yeah. But he's not necessarily doing what he does best. Yeah. Yeah. Which seems to he's one of those people who doesn't last a lot longer after they stop putting out. Good work. Yeah. It's really a shame. It is. And he dies a year after receiving the Oscar for lifetime achievement in nineteen eighty which is the only Oscar he received only Oscar he received in which he was really anxious about taking because he number one new it meant that his career was over..
