"By the way, Um Really like what they did with Charles Woodson. And surprising him. This has become a tradition now, David Baker. Who runs the Hall of Fame. Surprise Jimmy Johnson last year. I thought it was really well done that they fox. The people were Fox. We set up, Jimmy. They surprised Joe Buck. They supply surprise trade eggman, and this year they got they got Charles Woodson. David Baker is a fascinating individual. At some point, Anthony put it on the list of things we need to do. We should get David Baker on on the show if we can next week. He's fascinating. He's 6 FT nine and £400. He usually wears that really bright, robust blue suit with the red tie. He switched it up a little bit on Charles Woodson. But this guy looks like he played football. But he really played basketball. He just loves football, and I know that he's been trying desperately. You bring the Super Bowl to Canton, where the pro Football Hall of Fame is. I'd love that. They've kind of revamp things down there. I don't know if if Canton really has the capacity to do it, although this would have been the year to do it in Canton. Because obviously there restrictions on how many people can actually be there and You could have people in the hotels and Akron and Cleveland if you needed to. But he's been trying desperately needed to get that super get a Super Bowl in Canton. They wanted it during the 1/100 anniversary, but that wasn't going to happen, but it's cool to see David Baker. Show up because you can't mistake him. It's not like he's somebody else. He's 6 FT. Nine and £400 he get on Lee be David Baker. He Sam Baker's dad, remember Sam Baker, the tackle? That's his dad, who's in charge of the whole Hall of Fame. Seen Charles Woodson be I know that Charles probably had a good indication that he was going to the Hall of Fame. But You to get that call. Or in this case, have David Baker's show up behind you While you're doing an interview, to let you know that you're going into the Hall of Fame seems pretty special. This is a really fascinating list. Of people who got in. If you're just waking up like, well, then who did get it? Peyton Manning, Obviously. Allen, Fan Icka, Charles Woodson, Calvin Johnson, John Lynch, Bill Nunn, Drew Pearson. And Tom Flores. I'm glad that in the year where Cores is doing the commercials. With Tom Flores that he actually does get into the Hall of Fame. It's really made no sense, like he's one of he was one of four coaches. That it won two Super Bowls. And not been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Super Bowl champions from the 1918 1983 season. With the Raiders. And away. I think he's win percentages on Lee behind Bill Belichick's 73% more. His team's 1 73% of the games that they played..

"No. Where, you know, you know the other thing that comes to ringing across right and you'll see this when you watch it. Is that what that was it? It was a win. Now it's him. So was our guest yesterday. Tom Flores was the greatest match. Head coach for Mr Davis that anybody could ever create. I mean, if you saw the way he interacted around his players who were volatile his his superstar players and superstar backs and guys with huge egos and owner with a massive ego. And yet he found the way to operate the most effectively for longest period of time around al and not just do okay or do pretty well, but do incredible, you know? So that was that came across two. That's coach Tom Flores has the temperament of a saint. So you're exactly right. Just no one. You know what I know. About the situation and no one coach, You know the little bit that I do. It's no surprise that he was the right guy for that job because he just has that even keeled temperament. Nothing seems to bother him. And if you're gonna work for Al Davis during that time when you know the Raiders with the Raiders, and now Davis was out, Davis You had to be that dude, that just kind of kept everything. Just chill, because if you go one way or another, you upset what is already a pretty volatile situation. And there's no way for us kind of the person in the middle as you know. Tom Flores was there's no way for you to win that. So I'm you want to be the face and Gruden want to be the face? It didn't work. Um and he moved. Flores was perfect. He had just enough. Just enough talent to get it done just enough credibility to be left alone by al enough and just enough patients and mental maturity to be able to deal with out. I mean, really, it comes across in this in this documentary. Here's the most important body part about that. Tom Flores was his own man. And I think that that is a point that should be made all the time. It wasn't a lackey. He wasn't a Yes man. He was his own man that did it his own way. But it worked, and he was smart enough to kind of realize how he should play that situation. And obviously he played it out perfectly. But I'm biased freely admit that I don't know they I don't know if you remember the greatest part of the whole doc crew. What's that? Gene Upshaw. When he when he said that he agreed that it was no the interview in the locker room after winning the Super Bowl. He had Lipper in yet. Yeah, you could see it. It's on the bottom tank, and it's like it's like kind of exposed kidding me. Which got me thinking that in the gift that in the game Greet you wonder in the game. I can you guys, you guys who did for sure, Maybe maybe he did. Or maybe just fire that thing. And after those like his just fourth quarter to five, like, fourth quarter Super Bowl celebration to like this pirate thing in there like you would think if you did it after you like, Let me fire this and after the interview, was fired it in right here in the interview, and he was like 1980. I was like, Oh, damn. Look at that, dude and spit it. The camera natives like there was a fat lip er two. Incredible. Let me tell you, so I guess they fear the big Alan. What's on the cover of s side with smoking a cigarette? Ok, let me tell you. What does you think the other thing I The other thing that hit me was there was a scene where Rozelle is going to start a press conference. And it's like the cameras rolling and he takes out a cigarette. Lights it up right there. Fresh one as the press conference is starting smoking if you got seventies and eighties, man, Yeah. Wow, It's a wonder we survived because our parents back then damn on one on several things, depending on parents. We'll keep it going. Chad Millman joining that's a 2 30. "What was it about Jim Plunkett, where When the crunch time happened. He was great stepping in for a situation. Maybe that wasn't his to begin with. Well, it's It's interesting about joking, but you know he was right for the bear. It were the Raiders were so I got a chance to follow his career even heard about it when he was back in high school. Instead of the area in the Stanford obviously, and and he always made big plays in big games. That was not an actual, you know, not up. Pretty guy tow Watch play the game because he was kind of like a like a big twice, still or sometimes. But he could. He could throw the ball. He was very competitive sport. And, uh and made the baby is the right place at the right time, And that's what he did for us. He got on a roll and the team got on a roll with him. And we took him when, uh then he was just a free agent and we beat him third string when I was an assistant coach with John Man. In 1978. And then 79. He backed up Stabler and they learned the office slowly. Uh, and there was no pressure on him. But when the pressure to me he rose to the occasion, even even under adverse conditions, he rose to the occasion. That's the type of player is he's always been the type of person has always been Finally, we have the Las Vegas Raiders now and that takes a little while to get used to, But it also took a while to get used to the Los Angeles Raiders when you guys moved there in the early eighties. Has been hard for you at all Since you grew up in the Oakland Raiders days of that organization to see the city be left behind twice as the Raiders have moved. Yes, I'd be. I'd be lying if I said it, didn't it? My feeling is always been and with all disrespected Los Angeles or disrespected. Tonto Las Vegas. The Raiders belong in Oakland. That's where we started when I was when I was their very first quarterback in 1960. That's all we said. Well that we played San Francisco, but we were the Oakland Raiders. It was open on so you'll find out soon enough. And they did find out soon enough when we put Oakland on the map. Ah, but unfortunately, it just didn't work out there. Nowadays. Football is such a big sport. If you don't have Ah, magnificent stadium like this one they have in Vegas like they haven't l A. Like they have a Dallas All the deuce. It is Minnesota are just incredible. Ah, it's hard to compete it Oakland unfortunate just don't have the resources to do it otherwise. Yeah, I would say they would have done it. It's sad to see but we still have the Raider nation. They follows where we go so They will be there, you would know they can't get into the game. It wants to gain from outside the stadium. I'll bed Raiders Nation is always passionate, no matter where that black and silver is playing, and on Sunday night football, they're gonna be playing The Kansas City Chiefs Tom Flores has four rings. One is a player three's a coach to as a head coach. And he's a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame coach. It is really nice to catch up with you. Best of luck. "These fires that are going on Tom's down in five springs that gets really warm and we talked about the other day Death Valley was 130. Diggory's Possibly the highest recorded Temperature ever. In the history of Planet Earth. It's we're talking about here. So I can't even imagine what it is in Palm Springs today of times dive. It's probably too hot to even play goal for coach floors. Yes, Yes, for sure, but it's got a really warm for him to not play Go. Hideous problem. London can be our AM and FM San Francisco, these forts leader were expected to be joined. Hi Tom Flores Shortly Flores and Drew Pearson were selected as the senior finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2021. We didn't think that Tom was going to make it last time around last year when they In a number of players kind of righted some wrongs. But Tom Flores was not elected to Pearson was very upset. By the way, I think was Josh Dubow who put this out. And when you when you look at stats Probably say they can lie when you don't compare apples to apples. In other words, like Eras of football, But he put out Cliff branches numbers to drew Pearson's numbers, and they're all better across the board. So while Drew Pearson made headlines for the way he reacted to not getting in Cliff Branch can't speak for himself. His his numbers or even better, So Cliff Branch was not on that list. But Pearson was and I would always abdicate for Roger Craig. But we have Tom on in a minute, and that's we want to focus on because I believe Tom deserves to get in. But I do think Cliff Branch deserves to get it. And I do believe I have to Craig deserves to get in. Not that you're a person doesn't just saying Well. Roger Craig played for Bill James. It was a Raider later in his career about you know that because it's timely because Drew Pearson like Tom Stands a good chance to get in after being omitted during the You know the increased class that was supposed to go in a 20. Now we're going to delay it. And so maybe they'll all go in together. And 21. But when you compare Cliff Stats toe Lynn Swann's stats The same argument can be made. So I think with Cliff It's a little like Coach floor is where we take all the Raiders and put him into the Hall of Fame. Well, yeah, if they're good enough, What's the difference that they were that dominant? So Coach. It was certainly feeling great about his chances. And, you know, we talked about it with a guy. We waited too long to get snake in until he passed. And you know, we're gonna knock on wood. As I said. I was texting him yesterday and I started with CEO and and then I deleted it. Just that great news so Hopefully, a year from now we'll introduce him as a Hall of Famer. But right now we've got great news yesterday, so Coach Flores is joining us from farm spring so How do we categorize this news? I don't want to congratulate you yet because there would be the ultimate jinx. But how are you viewing Tom News you got yesterday. Well, I'm unit very positively. Ah. In light of what happened the last couple of years. Ah, vory. Guarded about it going into this year. I didn't know they were doing in this suit soon. Good. All his pandemic stuff going on. And the yesterday my phone started ringing out my sofa with bringing up Ringing and ringing and ringing all morning long while I was sitting in media Thomas's office getting my my mangled by Jack I could even see and I sense there's something going on in the Hall of Fame and When I got out I found out what was going on. They had had this This procedure. So my jazz is Greg. Got to be the best I've ever been, because I'm the only coach of the balls. You don't vote for me who we're not gonna take any coaches it so the way I read if Tom it's about 80% chance that you'll get innovative and quantify a figure and how this will work. No, I don't think they want Teo. But but really, I think even higher than that, But I'm not starting celebrate yet, but I'm excited about it. I have a bit of an emotional Emotionally excited about this news. This is a thrilling And and the best part about it is I'm gonna be around to celebrate it. Absolutely. It's Tom Floors. Floors is joining us. And if you missed it yesterday, he and your peers were selected as senior finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2021. We've spoken to you in the past about this and for good reason you're guardedly. Optimistic about it. But But what would it mean? Because some guy say that's not that big of a deal to get in, but it's got to be. It's the ultimate individual honor, is it not? When you figure when you really do the numbers of all the players and coaches And personnel people that have been in this business for 100 years. And and and accomplished whatever they have. And how many few of that percentage wise is in the whole thing More in all of them. It's remarkable. You don't even think about it that way. And that's not just You know? Ah, Blue Ribbon. This is lifetime. This is forever eternity. And It's uh it's quite an honor. It is quite an honor. I think you'd be there. You know, I don't like you. I don't think you realize it's like when you win a Super Bowl. You don't realize it until it's all.

"M? Moore is a contributor. No. I'm talking over, all encompassing. Well, that's my whole. But on the other words, thi this is the difference. And let me just say, okay. If he was a it was he was put in a contributor. Okay. Then I think that's where we you know, it's weird as a monitor finalists because I need to have this defined to me by the hall of fame. What is it that we're evaluating Tom Flores on right? Is it his playing career? Is it his coaching career? Or is it someone who has been around the game and continue and continue to contribute to it through the years away. The Tom floors did. Well, you remember what they did with dick lebeau? Dick lebeau was by no standard a hall of fame player. He just wasn't. He was a good player. But he was never a hall of fame player. But it was the body of work that even though he got inducted as a player really got him into the hall of fame. Right. And you know, listen to what's a hall of fame without a guy who's been around the NFL for fifty something years. Exactly. I mean, that's the thing. And that's why I think Tom floors. He may have that momentum because real quick, I know we're running out of time here. Think about who we got going in out of these five okay spot. We got read going in as a first ballot. No doubt. Right. Tony gonzales. Go down the first ballot, right? Yep. To enchant Bailey. Maybe. Yeah. Right. I yeah. Okay. So we'll say Tampa three spots left true spots left. And we got twelve guys in some guys have been in that room for years, and then does Tom floor split the vote because some guys who voted for coryell, they won't vote for two coaches. Right. You know as far as getting whittling willing down the list. It's so messy. I gotta I gotta think fantasy is one of those two spots. So then we got one spot left for eleven guy. The big question is do you continue to get in the room? Tom floors doesn't get in this year. Does he get back next year? And I say that because Everson walls isn't back right. You know, we may never vote on them again. But if you stick around long enough, and you get to be a finalist, usually you find your way into induction and Cam, I could go all day on the stuff. I could go on all day. You know that Alex Alex as always a happy new year to you. Great to talk to you as always. I will talk to you again tomorrow. As a matter of fact, indeed, I'm looking forward to in the next Saturday. Hopefully, you'll be with the Walter camp awards in New Haven, Connecticut. To allow our parents from there. Yeah. "Two nine save. Oh, man. Burns going. I go. Man caves, so I guess we're going to the man cave because we're not going to solve this crisis over the wall, dirty trash around Washington, DC's monuments and the house passing bills to reopen. The federal government that the president says he's vetoing, but it's the brand new day and the ANC Pelosi speaker of the house, again don't know she's a sports fan. I do have some friends in congress who are huge sports fans, and they want to know what's up with wild card weekend. And what else is going on like with the pro football hall of fame. So I will oblige as they do listen to this show. How about that? And you can always catch it on tune in radio. I know some people have written me and told me that's what they do. They've sent me emails because you work crazy hours. Sometimes you are listening live sometimes you're catching us in replay, which is cool. So if you go to tune in radio, you miss something you want to hear it. Mr. an interview that is the place to go and G C loads them all up. There are pal George is awesome. Who is the more than the head engineer? He's the everything at the mothership make sure that gets done. So you can always hear everything. And I and and it's great. And I'm glad to hear from all of you. And that's a good way to do it or else. You can also stream at San live dot com. So let's talk about the pro football hall of fame. Fifteen finalists for twenty nine hundred class. Who are they Tony Gonzalez is one of them? You catch him on the FOX network so super super tight end safety. Ed Reed corner champ Bailey. I cover champ Ellie they were all finalists in their first year of eligibility. Coach Jimmy Johnson and wideout Hines ward were among the notable semifinalists who didn't advance to the next stage. So how about that? But the full class the full class of finalists, and they don't announce this until until the Super Bowl like the Super Bowl. And then they tell you who got in Steve atwater safety with the Broncos. He's he's also on the list. He also played with the jets. I mentioned. Can't bailey. He played for the Bronx and the Redskins. Tony Boselli tackle for Jacksonville. Boy, tough as nails. He's on the list. I bet he gets in is Bruce white out for the Rams and the San Francisco forty Niners. Don coryell who is the coach was the coach for the cardinals. And the chargers also. Tom Flores makes the list coach. Boy, I've talked Thomas ton of times, he's an analyst now on the raiders network. And he was a coach with raiders for a long time. And then the Seattle Seahawks. I mentioned Gonzales all the years with Kansas City, and then a few years with the Atlanta Falcons Steve Hutchinson. A guard for the Seahawks Edgerrin James longtime running back for the colts and the cardinals and the Seahawks. Ty law corner for the patriots jets Kansas City Chiefs, Broncos John Lynch, also on the list, I'm out of breath. You get the idea here. Ed Reed Richard Seymour for the patriots raiders at read. I mentioned him before ravens. Texans. Jets about that. Kevin way also center for the Seahawks jets titans. Who gets in? That is the thing. And you know, what we wound up until it comes to the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl that whole week of what they do the taste of the NFL and all the things that happened during the week as I've been to many Super Bowl can tell you about that, especially from the media side. And then they'll have a day where they announced who gets in. And it's actually pretty cool as for the wild card games. It just comes down to. It's interesting looking at people I respect you have covered the game for a long time exclusively covered the game who they're picking to win the match ups so on wild card weekend. You have the colts who narrowly get in. But that's huge because they turn their season around. So good for Frank. Right. Who's the coach of the colts and Andrew luck who hadn't played in a while. And I'm looking across the board at some of the guys I know that have covered. Have covered the NFL in a long time. And you only have a couple that are picking the Texans. And this Shawn Watson this is in Houston. I'm gonna poo poo that I'm going to say agree with Jared Pell who you can catch his stuff of USA today. I think the Texans win it. I don't think the colts win it. Although I have a lot of friends that are cold fans. I know they be jacked if that happened. Then the Seahawks are at the Cowboys. And so many people are picking the Seahawks. Not picking the Cowboys the Cowboys who turn their season around after pathetic efforts and. I think this game is going to be close. We did our nail scored game. Pete chimed in Sharon chime din, Cody chimed in through the miracle is the internet Al Gore's internet. Maccioni chimed in Paul chimed in is much people probably six or seven people. So there's a light we put six or seven people chimed in and they all mostly it was kind of mixed bag mostly Seattle though, mostly Seattle. So we'll see I'm thinking the cowboy fans better be loud and proud if they're going to help them out there. Then you have the chargers at the ravens, and this kind of a split deal because you've got to think about the got to think about the. Characters on the field. Right. So if I'm Xs Xs and os, by the way, here for you on this man cave because this is what we'd be talking about in the man cave who do you think's gonna win who's going to cover the spread? What do you think happens? I think the. I think what I look at the charges in the ravens boy. Melvin gordon. He's like the flash. And if he can tear it up and get through that Baltimore defense. It could be a very long day for the ravens. But you know, what? Lamar Jackson has ignited them as the young rookie quarterback for Baltimore. And I wouldn't count this as an any kind of a walk in the park. And then of course, you have the eagles at the bears, and you think about this game. And you look at the bears and what they've done and what a cool season it's been for them. And how the eagles only got in because they beat Washington. And then the bears did them a favor by beating the Vikings. And this is in Chicago, which I think that doesn't have any bearing on it except for the home crowd. But this is also going to be I think it's going to be a nail biter kind of game. And it could really go. Either way depends on. The quarterback for the eagles. What are we gonna see from Philly Nick foles who had a little bit of chess problems in the last game? Now in for Carson Wentz. What what who's injured? What is he going to look like we're gonna see it's the obvious deal. The cliche or we're gonna to turnovers or fumbles and interceptions. That kind of thing the game will turn on that. But of course, all these games fall into that same category. So while some of these teams are talking about wildcard weaken, and others are getting a breather. Like the patriots, for example, because they have those by weeks like the Kansas City Chiefs like the New Orleans Saints patriots getting the breath having a day off. It's so interesting because you have other teams that are talking about. Head coaches, and who's going to be there next head coach because so many coaches were dumped it's a revolving door win where else especially if you have a couple of years because with the money, that's on the line, etc. The patient's level is just lousy right? And sometimes it should be. But if it's going to be interesting to see what happens with some of those gigs in the off season who moves where and there are eight possible openings in the league, one of the biggest guests will probably be Mike McCarthy because he was fired by the Packers in early December. But he had such a winning record in the thirteen seasons there. He's in demand. He knows it. I think the jets one of them. I think the Browns won them. I think the cardinals wanna pick a team, then I think we if you go to the younger guys, Adam gaze is only forty he. He'll be in demand. He was fired by the dolphins after three seasons, but he did pull them back into the playoffs. But then he had back to back losing seasons. He had problems with the quarterback situation. I think this was part of the problem, but he was successful in his days with Peyton Manning in Denver and Jay Cutler in Chicago. He'll be considered. There's no doubt about that. Bruce arians. He is awesome. Love Bruce Arians when he was the head coach of the cardinals finally got his chance after getting rocked by Pittsburgh. So he retired after the two thousand seventeen season was in the broadcast booth. But you know, what I don't know. I think if somebody could Lor him in perhaps he would do it. I think he would listen. But where would that be the Browns job supposedly there's rumors about Tampa Bay wanting to talk to him? He'd be a good fit for Tampa Bay. This is something else. We'd be talking about who do you think should coach them next? Right. Do you want a players coach or do you want? Somebody who isn't a players coach you want some of the younger. Do you want somebody who has massive experience? I think it depends on who's on the team. Could have success with either the other thing we were for sure for sure be talking about would be the fight. Do you like the fight? There's this all access Paki overseas per honor three part series that started on Showtime..
