"States have legalized at least some form of use of marijuana but it remains a federal crime something Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer now wants to change We're welcome to someone for the other side of the eye I'll with a very similar idea She is Republican representative Nancy mace of South Carolina here with us in the studio So welcome It's good to have you here And thank you for having Thank you for having me today It's going to be in studio It's great to be kind of normal We're getting back to it So tell me what your proposal on eliminating the federal crime which marijuana I filed a bill in November called the states Reform Act and it would deschedule marijuana first of all In order to study it for medical research you have to do schedule it So it decriminalizes it in that regard There are protections for veterans in there in small businesses and growers It treats cannabis like alcohol but it also respects the rights of every state in this country that state laws are very different As you mentioned 47 to 50 states have some form whether it's CBD or medical cannabis or full recreational use Everybody's different And there's a patchwork and you want to protect that patchwork just like alcohol so a treat cannabis companies like the alcohol industry and alcohol companies And there's something for everyone in this bill It's been endorsed by conservative groups like Americans for prosperity but also democratic groups like normal So folks on both sides of the aisle want to make this happen and the only way we can do it responsibly is if we build consensus we work together as Republicans and Democrats alike for the American people What's your motivation for this I mean are you constituents asking for it I mean where's the concern It is It is hugely popular in South Carolina in fact just last night the state of South Carolina senator Tom Davis passed out of the Senate chamber medical marijuana bill and a go to the house next week But it is wildly popular in conservative South Carolina but this issue for me it's personal I told this story when I filed a bill but I was raped when I was 16 And I dropped out of school shortly thereafter And I went through some really tough times I was prescribed antidepressants at that time And that medicine that medication made my depression worse I wanted to truly end it all And I stopped taking the prescription drugs and I started using cannabis for a period of time in my life where it cut my anxiety It got me through those tough times And so for me it's deeply personal I talked to veterans about PTSD and suicide rates and when I talk to veterans I feel their pain because I've been there I feel it personally in my heart physically and mentally I've been there I was there one time And so for me it's I'm deeply passionate about the issue Sometimes you don't know why you go through these life experiences these challenges but I went through it I survived and I got through it with cannabis It is a very powerful story I must say there are various aspects of this that go beyond just legalizing it federally One of them is banking allowing banking on it And the other is expunging records of past defenses Where are you in those two issues Yeah So this bill would allow the federal expungement and release of nonviolent cannabis offenders It would affect about 2800 federal prison inmates today It would actually save the federal government $600 million over 5 years This is an issue very important to Democrats and even a few Republicans and even president Trump was big on pardoning violent drug users And so I wanted to put together a framework that had a very low federal tax that had regulatory policy in there but a framework a proof of concept that could bring Republicans and Democrats together And you don't do it by going to the far right or the far left You do it by building consensus You do it by finding places where we have agreement and working together on those issues Let's talk about consensus particularly within your party at the moment I mean you're in the House of Representatives You have to run for reelection every two years coming up in November We had this incident over the weekend and then the beginning of the week with the Republican National Committee coming out and saying some things about legitimate political discourse I think with the words used about January 6th And then Mitch McConnell the Senate minority leader coming out and saying that's just not right It was a violent attempt to overthrow the government As you look toward the midterms is that sort of dissension within the party going to continue could it hurt Republican chances come November And you even had vice president Mike Pence giver great speech to the federalist society talking about the constitution and why it's so important to protect democracy to protect our republic and to protect the constitution And in fighting and we see it in both sides you have the progressives and socialists and the Democratic Party We have QAnon over on the far right as well But that kind of disarray or the disagreement that public arguing it hurts both sides And I think that's why you're seeing the fringes of both parties bubble up to the top We need bold We need strong leadership that is willing to work together to be center right or center lab But be bold and be pragmatic and bring some common sense to the table And that's the only way we're going to resolve some of the conflict we have both in the Republican and Democratic Party That's the only way we can.

"Cap trust and take a look at the Wall Street News, Business News and beyond this Wednesday morning jobs, JOBS JOBS Sam 10.9 million jobs open companies struggling to fill all those positions and you're hearing it every day from restaurants who are Closing up on Mondays or not offering lunch. I mean, there's all sorts of different tax being taken. As we deal with that. What is a labor shortage? The question is, Will it be alleviated by All the enhanced unemployment benefits in the eviction moratorium. Both of those situations kind of burning off this month, not to mention the fact kids back in school, which might open up the possibility of work for a number of people. But make no mistake about it. If you're so inclined to look for a job, you can be pretty picky these days. There's a lot of jobs out there, especially in the service industries. Amazon, They are bringing their cash. Fearless technology to Whole foods. Stores are starting out with two stores one on the East Coast one on the West. But that's just they're just walk out technology where you swipe your app. You pick up what you want and you'll walk out. And so they're testing that out in two different whole foods with the idea of taking it to all whole foods in the near future. Let's check the real time Numbers. Dow Down 48 35,052 NASDAQ Down 1 14 The S and P down 12 points or a quarter of 1%. Gold down one oil up. 1% 10 Year bond Yield. 1.35 Kelly thanks so much time to roll out some fresh new audio for you in the eight o'clock our full speed ahead for the Biden administration and Speaker Nancy Pelosi in their effort to push through not only $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill, but also another $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill. Upwards of $5 trillion in new spending. Many in Congress, including Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat West Virginia, are concerned that it's way too much spending. But Labor Secretary for President Biden, Marty Walz says We need the big spending. Now. Here's what he told CNN. This is about the public. This is about the people of America. This is an investment that they've never seen before. It's an investment the president's committed to. It's an investment. A lot of people in Congress committed to it's about it's just as important as building a new bridge. About laying down the foundation so we can train the workers, So, as the president says, we can win the future. Now This comes on a morning where we have just heard from. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, who has just testified before. Congressional leaders at the U. S. Is now on track to default on the national debt in October if the White House and Congress are unable to raise the debt limit. The short story on this one, the cliff notes running out of cash. And if you don't start borrowing more, we're going to shut the light zone. Uh, we have heard this so many times in our lifetime, And here we are back again. Because they got to raise that they got to raise the debt ceiling. They got to borrow more money they do they do and they need they need to make sure they can get all of their Democrats in line. Pass these bills when we say they have to borrow more money. What Yellen is testifying to today on Capitol Hill. It does not include the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package. $13.5 trillion proposed reconciliation package that that's outside. Of those boundaries, right? I mean, So you have you have people saying that the we're looking at financial Armageddon if our debt limit isn't raised. They say that all the time I know we're gonna have to shut down the federal government and I mean, have you ever run into anybody on the street going? Oh, no. He just shut down the federal government. I wonder. I mean, I'm not an economist, but I just think it's all the Treasury secretary does not think this is concerning I just seems It seems like we're living in the matrix that it does. It does as as someone and it's not just Janet Yellen. These are people who have spent their entire lifetimes decades in finance. I mean, you just how they cannot sit back and look at this story line and say. This is a recipe for disaster. What we're doing. I mean, it's like you really hope they know something you don't know. You know what they know They're not paying back this debt now. Well, our grand are great. Kids are going to be able to pay it by. I just I mean, how else do we get out of this beside defaulting? And then I was ticked off for all these other countries who bought our Treasuries? Yeah. No. Yeah. Oh, boy. Anyways, nous. Okay, That's the money side of Washington, D. C for you this morning. Speaking of D. C. They're coming to California here soon, At least the the two most prominent members of Washington D. C. The vice president and the president will be in California. They will be campaigning for Governor Newsom one today and one early next week, So we'll break that down for you. And apparently a lot of us are anxious to get back to the office. Yeah. New poll. "And I'm Bruce Allen. Teddy Guillen is our producer. Just ahead. Former Virginia Senator John Warner, who served for decades in the Senate, has died on Capitol Hill. I'm Mitchell Miller, a New York jury grand jury will hear evidence and consider possible criminal charges against former President Trump about his business practices. It appears U. S troops will leave Afghanistan much earlier in the summer than expected. Good morning. It's 9 31. Former Virginia Senator John Warner, who served for three decades of the U. S. Senate, has died. We get more now from wt Opie's Mitchell Miller joining us live from Capitol Hill after serving as Navy secretary Senator Warner served five terms in the Senate in his first Senate run. He campaigned with his then wife, actress Elizabeth Taylor, but nearly failed to get elected, finishing second at the GOP convention, but the Republican nominee died in a plane crash. And Warner later narrowly won his 1978 race. He went on to serve as Senate armed services chair and his Senate career spanned from 1979 to 2009 praises pouring in from members of both political parties this morning, Senator Mark Warner, who ran against John Warner, Praising him Warner John Warner actually defeated Mark Warner in 1996, and then they went on to become friends. Joan and Bruce. All right, Thank you, Mitch. One question for you here. While John Warner was a longtime Republican, he had an independent political streak he did in the 2016 Election. Warner actually endorsed Democrat Hillary Clinton and her race against Donald Trump, and much earlier. He caused quite a stir in the nineties when he opposed GOP nominee Oliver North, who tried to unseat Democratic Senator Chuck Robb Warner instead. Supporting independent Marshall Coleman the divide in that race, allowing Rob to get elected. So while he did ruffle some feathers in the GOP, he was very well respected, however, for always standing on principle within the party I want. It was probably best known as the Senate Armed Services chairman. But didn't he also have a big impact on transportation projects in our area here, Right, Bruce. This is one of the legacies that a lot of people don't realize He had a huge role in getting railed to Dulles and helping to secure funding for the Wilson Bridge, and his former Virginia congressman Tom Davis told our collar. Bigmat small this morning. He worked a lot behind the scenes to get the funding for that He loved the horse trading aspect of it, in fact, on the Wilson Bridge that looked like they weren't going to get about $600 million in federal funding that they needed for that new bridge. However, he helped do that with some horse trading with a Pennsylvania lawmaker, and I happen to be on the bridge that day when it opened, and it was all the credit going to the governors and the D. C. Mayor. Warner never really said anything at that event. But he said to Tom Davis, no problem. He was fine with standing aside and letting everybody else take credit. I also have to recall one last thing when I would sometimes catch up with John Warner during events in Hampton Roads when he was the chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. I was covering the Navy and I came up to him one day and I said Senator, How are you today? And he said, And that gravelly, stentorian voice never better, and he was known for saying that constantly. Whatever he would run into Emmy was always upbeat again. A man of principle a man who will really, really be missed by Virginia. Good memories. Mitch. Thanks so much. Mitchell Millet there from Capitol Hill and also, funeral arrangements have not been set yet. But Virginia Governor Ralph Northam just said that he is ordering the Virginia state flags to be flown at half staff over the state capital on the day of Warner's funeral. It's 9 34..

We get more from W. T. O P S Mitchell Miller from Capitol Hill, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says D C size should not be among the arguments against statehood. The District of Columbia has more residents than in Vermont and Wyoming and nearly the same numbers. Delaware Several Democratic lawmakers stepped forward to argue for D C delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is Bill which recently passed the House, among them Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, who notes it's been 70 years since the state was admitted. I don't think a fixed number of star It's on the flag sends a message of a growing thriving nation, and I think it might send the message of a nation That's kind of fixed, like Democrats are in a political fix, since no Republican support the bill, which would need to overcome a GOP filibuster on Capitol Hill, Mitchell Miller w T. O P News, the Democratic race for lieutenant governor of Virginia is the most crowded statewide race right now. All six candidates met for debate last night hosted by ABC seven and Police. Accountability was a main topic. One question. They got a lot of attention should all police in Virginia be required to have body cameras? Exhibitor, Warren said. "Astley. So Austin Elmore. My producer tells me because I'm always curious about what he's doing. Besides producing the show. He's a multi talented guy, a multi tasker. He could do many different things. At one time he could do sports. He can produce the show and also pay attention to the show. It's very important for producers to do this, just in case I suddenly go off the rails. Like that's gonna happen. Good. Uh, but he also is busy on his phone. Just like the rest of You. Generation. Whatever you millennials, are you a millennial? Yes. Technical. Okay, Millennial, please on his phone, looking down with his headphones on paying attention the show to make sure the old man Across from him doesn't go berserk, and he's got to make more new plans. Between now and nine o'clock. He's on his phone, and I just I said, I'm curious. Maybe you could call it nosy. But what are you doing? On your phone, he said. Ah, pleasure of things. Because again multitalented multi tasker kind of guy. So what are you doing right now? I'm on instagram. What's on Instagram, he said. I'm reading a post by Cameron saying that he's gonna Unfollowed people. Said. It may be personal. It may not Number one. I don't know. Cameron and number two. I don't want to know camera I don't care about because apparently, Cameron is following lost in which I don't think so bad thing, but I really don't care. In social media is the reason That over Bo Tox Kardashians are multi millionaires. Not important to me. And who Cameron follows. And who doesn't? He doesn't follow. Not important, but apparently it was important enough for Austin to take time out of doing whatever he's supposed to be doing when he's paid to do tow Watch Cameron's instagram. Did you ever find out? Did you find anything more about Cameron Austin that you can share? No, I I apparently he's just going through something. Why? Why do you feel the need though? To post that you're going to unfollowed people? Why don't you just unfollowed people? What you gonna tell your father? I don't know why you waste time with any of this crap time now for the Tom Davis Diaries I refer to as the Man. Good morning, Tommy. Maybe he was washing the my pillow documentary that came out.

When it comes to your smart device, asking it to play us is probably the smart thing you could do. Hey, Alexa Wave the flag marked choice. Jimbo had a joke. 26 650, Jimbo 866554626 and We have Paul Strauss with us. He act, says the district of Columbia's nonvoting representative to the U. S. Senate. He is actively pursuing statehood for the District of Columbia, which now has passed the house and if I'm not mistaken That process now would include Senate passage, followed by a signature from President Biden. But that would that do it way. Sure, hope so. We have a bill in the Senate. Now it's as 51 it has 40. Co sponsors. Um, but we are looking for more, and we're hoping to get All of the Democrats and some bipartisan support as well. All right now that David in San Francisco had called in as regards certain other territories and of the various other such territories out there, the Mariana Islands and Guam and what have you The only one that really, I think is never seriously talked about statehood was Puerto Rico, where they do have in fact they a statehood party, which of course existed in the District of Columbia for many years, although I don't think it's active anymore because I think the Democrats have pretty well. Taken over that role you could tell us, but But do you see any parallels between what has been suggested for Puerto Rico and what is now being suggested for the District of Columbia? Well, I do. The Puerto Rico just had a referendum on statehood. They voted for it. The numbers were not as high as the vote for stated here in D. C in Guam actually is trying to have a plebiscite to determine their Future. I speak actually regularly with government leaders, both in Guam and Puerto Rico. And, um, there are many parallels. There's a big difference, of course, they are exempt And from paying most federal You know, one income of the rationales taxes. that And we are not. was always We had actually for having pay a government with more its homes taxes per capita control than any area state was and security. in the aggregate, So we 200 some odd years ago longer Contribute than that. $4 billion Um, to the federal treasury. a So for group us, it's literally of taxation soldiers stormed without representation. the Continental Congress in Philadelphia, And that's the even Pennsylvania our license plate State motto militia, as the story on, goes, Of course felt independence. that they had no There's obligation really no other to provide remedy security. but stated for us, you know, we'll go ahead. Uh, there's similarities, but there's a few differences as well. I'll come back to that. That thought of other remedies. But David in San Francisco, did that. Answer your question. Well, personally, I was when I was talking about market forces of freedom. I was talking about the You know, people that are new to freedom, getting the strive and then they kind of Proving their own mind that they're worth it. And then they freak. You know that most of these territories have had some forms of local self governance since the United States came aboard. We may elect all kinds of city councils and the light. Goodness knows there's been a government such as it is. In Puerto Rico. It hasn't always been, shall we say the most effective government, but they certainly have had lots of practice. Well and where I was going to go, and I'm glad you mentioned the Marianas. I think there are a bunch of sweatshops there and they don't get equal protection because they don't even get the American minimum wage. And if I remember right, there was a congressman that was, you know, famous for, you know, seeing to it that It remained a channel sort of territory. All right, we'll go ahead. Let's get such never was focus back more of the district. But go ahead, David. You know this might sound kind of preposterous, but it might make more sense than we might imagine. Right now. We're still under attack from Russia. We're under attack from wealthy Arabia made by under attack the fight, so to say that they posed at least potential threats and some skates of cyber attacks without getting into histrionics and hyperbole. Based on whatever your premise is that we have threats in this world. Therefore what That we offer them statehood. Well, okay, Well, you're right. It does not preposterous. But baby wait, thanks for a colorful addition to the conversation tonight. I've heard. I've heard it said that. In fact, they move toward Puerto Rican statehood. Paul Strauss might move in concert with that for the lifted of Columbia, and I've even heard at one point I think there was a discussion that has a mathematical formula. Or harmony. House seats are are given to the various states. And there was a proposal at one point of whereby Utah, which is ah, pretty reliably Republican state. In most cases, we got an extra representative in the house. I'm sure you've kept up on that more than I have. Well, that was a proposal. Utah lost a seat in a apportionment fight to North Carolina. They felt that was unfair. And a congressman from Virginia Tom Davis, Who was head of the end RCC, the National Republican Congressional Committee, whose job it was to get. Republicans elected to Congress proposed that Puerto Rico be given an extra house seat. And the district's nonvoting delegate could become a full voting member of the House..

The brunt of racial hatred and everything so well, I tell you, you know. Recently we had the movie 42 about Jackie Robinson. And, uh, Going to the theaters to Eddie. What heralds this movie in popularity. House of raided. And how is it rated and Eddie said, Well, probably Ira to let you know exactly how it was the number one last week. It's the number one this week. Um and you know, because there's nothing really released this week of any consequence. It was a lot of independent films that Marksman is one of the few films or it's all over the country, you know, So why release and normally would do probably five or six times the amount of business that normally does, because people would be in the theaters and watching it and Liam Neeson has made himself a. He's the Clint Eastwood of the Action movies Now every single one of them. But one of his greatest movies was love, actually. It was a great Christmas movie, and I was one of my favorite Christmas comedies. That was it was a comedy drama. It was a little bit of everything it was. It was really terrific. If he never saw it. "For our friends in the Commonwealth or the common Poor of Kentucky. E was talking about the different bills being introduced that they're meeting today. They could be voting on these today. The original intent an idea. Was to limit some of the tyrannical powers that the boy dictator governor Andy Bashir had exercised over the past year. My friend Mike Davis, text me and says Senate Bill One revision on Lee Limits the time Bashir has to destroy our lives, but zero changing his authority. Yeah, that's all limited to 30 days. In the language. But his powers are enormous. Under this legislation, I thought Thought we way had reason to hold out Hope. That the mostly Republican legislature and forget about parties, obviously because there's no difference between them anymore. That's why the pushback against President Trump was so strong. Because he wasn't really a Republican. He was a populist who Cared and talk to us, the actual citizens the people that they're supposed to work for, including the president, but anyway But Mike goes on, it says I suggest you personally contact Adrian Southworth or Brother Lee watch. They seem to be the most knowledgeable as written. It is a worthless disaster, As I have stated So you know, Ken, Ken? Good morning. How are you? Excellent in yourself, okay? You know, I did you email. Did you email me about the balance of power in the Senate? Yeah. Okay. I think I got that. I wanted to talk about that. So go ahead. Okay. So after the Georgia fiasco, the makeup of the Senate now was 50 Republicans. 48 Democrats and two independent Now Bernie Sanders is one of those two correct. Probably they didn't listen. Maybe just said two independent right, but they caucus with the Democrats. Right, but They're saying that humors automatically the winner, But when you look at the way The rules of red for the Senate. Which ever party has the majority of members. Is the Senate leader, so that would still be the Republicans. Right because you have 50 Republicans, 48 Democrats and two independents. So therefore, uh, the Republicans should still be leaving in the Senate. So is Mitch McConnell. Just too much of a wimp to even fight for his position. Uh, I mean, what? I don't understand what's going. Maybe I'm missing something here. Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell obviously has proved himself. Do not be cannot be trustworthy. As far as upholding the Constitution. He doesn't care. Whether whether he's the majority leader, the minority leader, He still wields incredible power and has all of the perks to go along with it. Yeah. WeII get screwed. Yeah, again. Thank you. So alright, Ken? Yeah. If anybody can illuminate Ken or me on the subject. Technically, there are 50 Republicans 48 Democrats to independence. Whomever has a majority is the majority party? I mean, obviously do the math. John and Westwood. Good morning. You're on 700 wlw. Great to talk to you again. Gary. Jeff, I hope you have a nice holiday season. I had a great holiday season. Well, this is the best time to talk about a way for the people. Get back control of our government is called the Convention of States and I know we've talked about it in the past, and I just wanted to give you an update. All right? We're up to 15 states and how many Orhan 34 States are needed to call the convention. And then if 38 states agreed, and it becomes ah constitutional amendment, it's two thirds and 3/4 I'm learning what Congress has to do. But with the convention of States we totally bypass Congress. We don't need their blessing. And we can pass. There's three. There's three items that were pushing for the convention of States. Okay. Tom limits for federal officials. Fiscal responsibility and curtailing the power and scope of the federal government. I'm in favor of all three of those things. Yes, and I think this is the greatest time for people to become aware of it. Go to convention of ST dot com. Read it. It's very simple. If you agree with it signed a petition and hopefully Ohio will become the 16th state this year. All right. Thank you very much. All right. And one more quick Call here before the break. Mike and Aniston. Good morning. How are you? Hey. Good morning. Um, I just have a quick question about Trump challenging, you know the voter fraud and all this other stuff, I real quick and you can answer after the break or anything like that. If if you did a mailing about the post mark would be on the envelope. It came through. Correct. Yes. Okay, So when they pull those out, do they keep the ballot? Do they keep the envelopes? Meaning? If you follow your taxes late. You get, you know you can get penalized regardless of whether you voted for Trump or Biden doesn't matter. Um, if you failed to have that postmark on the envelope Uh, prior to, you know the date. It was supposed to be on there, right? That that's no in void. Well, there were a couple of states that illegally because they bypassed their own legislatures said they wave the The time that it had to be in. They literally waived the postmark rule.
