Deepfake technology: Can you spot what's real?

"I'm andy taylor. And i'm justin. Lemme and it is the three of us today. There is a lot of tech to talk about. I think the big thing that a lot of people have been talking about this week number one for themselves and number one by just pure astonishment is the technology of deepfake technology. We talked about this a couple months ago. Well you know we. We talked about some deepfakes and all that stuff. But this is how it's it's rear its ugly head again and it's back with a vengeance ugly it looks. It looks so good. it's ugly for society because it does look so good and it's so confusing. I think you're talking about the tom. Cruise ones right yeah. You're the one who told me about it. Because i hadn't seen it yet and it appeared on tiktok amazing because tiktok it. They have a policy no deepfakes. They don't want deepfakes on on tiktok and this was posted on tiktok and eleven million views by people. Saying wait a minute. Tom cruise is doing a magic trick. Tom cruise's played golf. And he's put it he's on tiktok and people were watching and the thing is. You really can't tell that. It's not tom cruise. And that's that's what makes it rough those of you don't know what a deepfake is a deepfake. Is you get an act. I have an actor but a person anybody it could be anybody to be the The video portion of it. And then you'll be walking around a room or doing something. But then you're going to upload know of everybody can do this because it does require some sophisticated technology but you upload like a celebrities face in different poses which gets a bunch of different pictures of that celebrity and then you for lack of better term you superimposed that celebrities face on the quote unquote actors body and it becomes that person. This technology can basically turn anybody into somebody else now. We we've seen some deepfakes in the past that have featured celebrities but always like kind of a little switch. And i've liked those. I've been entertained by those where you have stallone as the terminator or bill hater which is one of the best ones out there. I think bill hader while. He's he's on. One of the talk shows transforms into tom cruise and transforms into seth rogan. While he's i love that one. That one's a lot of fun and they're fun but this deepfake was different because it wasn't like this is another celebrity trying to be another celebrity. This is like oh this. Is tom cruise. Which makes everybody think. Oh that's tom cruise. It brings up the idea then. Okay could a politician then be created to see something outrageous or yeah. That's what i was about to say is like people say how could be a threat to society. just imagine. Just imagine that somebody does somehow does a deepfake of president biden announcing war on china. china's somehow sees this and says well no no no no no where declaring war in america and launches their nukes. Not possible but oh it is possible now that technology fake the technology yet totally and it can also in the case of crime. We've got footage of this crime going down this person did. That's not me. That's a deepfake. There's in could be used as the defense could be used as maybe putting somebody up. That is innocent of a crime. I mean it's you say that there is a technology that you found out that is now being developed to combat the deepfakes like basically be able to tell if it was altered a company. And i'm the name kind of escaped me. I signed up to kind of follow them and see what they're doing but they're apparently able to use technology to determine similar like what people have done now with photoshop. Be has been able to set now that you can tell that's photoshop. You can see that but now this company is going to work with the some of these deepfake videos and see they can determine but again. The technology is getting so good but people have said. Well we don't have the expertise to do it ourselves. But we're beginning to see that changing as

Frances McDormand Explains Why She Turned Down Press Requests for 10 Years

"Okay. We're going to move on to actress. Frances mcdormand so. She just made this bold confession. She says she turned out interviews for ten years and chance. Good recent the oscar winner told the new york times. It gave me a mystery back to who i was. And then the roles performed. I could take an audience to a place where someone who sold watches or perfume and magazines could not ooh that she a pull that off. Talk to me like with the studio. And say i'm not going to do any interviews. Well that is interesting. But you know who was famous for that trend's prince dude and that's why everybody loved him. He was so mysterious. He's one of the most mysterious unicorns ever. That's why i always say. I miss the days of times when we didn't know every single thing about celebrity. It's the reason why tom cruise came up and came up so hard. It's the reason why. Julia roberts has survived for so long because they gave you that. We didn't know about what they were eating about. What was in their frigerator as we didn't know where they were on vacation. But you also have to just remember that. This was years ago was ninety six when she started this remember. We only had the rag magazines and we had the big magazines and television shows. We didn't have all of this social media so now that's why everyone is putting everything out about what they do. Were like okay enough already. I don't do. You said about the scenario so i i think it was brilliant. Does it do you think they're still shame because to me i. I don't care if if i see a big celebrity coffee or watch or on a magazine cover. It doesn't really lowered their celebrity to me. I still value their are. And i don't mind seeing them in the movies. That doesn't distract me. Dad there's an opposite there's two sides to every story because there are some actors who look down on other actors can't get those endorsement deals. Who aren't you know making that extra coin but i think for for francis and garment. This is about her craft and she never wanted her craft ever be. I don't wanna say soil because it's not really solid but she didn't want white diamonds but i'll hawks. I'm white. i'm here for a chat about the art and her choices in the character because her first come out character was what fargo was in. That was a big deal so in order for you to maintain that you have to pick roles that bring that kind of eat. Attention or people is hollywood.

Now south park being south park but at the same time our free things fun and is free really free. I remember back in radio. We had a rule. We never did free concerts. We always charged at least five dollars. The reason being we found that if somebody put five dollars down they were a little bit more respectful. They enjoyed themselves a little bit more. They weren't as well obnoxious as if it were a free show how. He's noticed that when things were free and people were getting stuff they were always wanting more they were never satisfied now. I don't know if the figures five dollars or eight dollars ten dollars and with the way of the world now who knows if that figures twenty dollars is anything really free. Is that the first fix. I'm joking but no way something to think about.

Hollywood Could Take $20 Billion Hit From Coronavirus

"The most basic is that movie theaters air just closed a lot of them. Our co host, Steve talked to John Horne, who covers the entertainment industry from member station KPCC in Los Angeles. Movie theaters are about to go out of business. I mean, I think that's the biggest story if you were to look at the biggest chains right now. They could barely scrape enough money together to buy a big tub of popcorn and a box of red vines. I mean, they have gone from a multi billion dollar business to basically no money overnight. Isn't this just a temporary thing, though, because the pandemic well, you could argue that, but I would make an alternative argument, and I would say that the pandemic has accelerated. What was it inevitable? If you look at admissions at movie theaters, it has been flat to declining over the past decade. On top of that, the pandemic exposed. I think of fundamental weakness in the theatrical model, and that is that they haven't changed their business in a century. And the world has changed that if you want to watch movie right now, you can dial it up on Netflix and watch it right now. You don't have to wait to go to the multi plex and wait in line and buy a $10 popcorn. And you're telling me that the Warner Brothers announcement which seemed to me like one more temporary expedient is actually just accelerating where the world is headed. Oh, yeah. What Warner Brothers said is we have decided that the future for this company is going to be digital. They said it's only gonna last a year. But that to me is a bell that they cannot unring at the end of 2021. Is anybody else Besides theaters cut out of the business or harmed when theaters ceased being the primary way that first run movies are distributed? Yes. Ah, lot of actors and directors make deals that involve a lot of contingent compensation. So you remember Tom Cruise used to get $20 million a movie. The studio said, Why we pay you that much money when the movie may not work, So what a lot of actors and directors have been doing is cutting their approach compensation for a share of the revenue and it's almost always tied to box office. So Let's say, Steve, you're a $10 Million movie star. The studio says. How about we pay you a million? But we're gonna give you 10% of the box office proceeds you go. Okay, that actually could bring me more money. If there is no box office, that money is gone, and it's not just the Tom Cruise is of the world. I was talking to somebody who works on scores for movies. And he said, When one of his films goes to a streaming platform, he makes 10 cents on the dollar in terms of his royalty. His work is the same, but because it's debuting on a streaming platform and not at the multiplex. He's taken a 90% pay cut in his royalties. Money aside, they've got to be a lot of directors, actors, people who care about the craft who hate this trend. They hate it. But the argument is a studio is like a restaurant and they've got a freezer full of food That's going to go bad. This happens to be movies so they used to do dining inside. Show your movie the theater. Then they said, Okay, what do we do? Dining outside, maybe a drive in model, and now they're doing a take out delivery model, which is gonna take our movies to streaming platforms because we can't do what we've done before. So it has left the filmmakers quite unhappy, But if your studio what do you suppose to do you have these movies They have got to get seen, and they have no way to do it. John Horne. It's a pleasure talking with you. Pleasure's all mine.

"Who's your D bag today? Colleen? His name is Jorge Clooney or E George, including Jorge Clooney. His name is George Clooney. Ah, horny. Why is Mr Clooney your d bag to day because he has inserted himself into the Tom cruise yelling at his staff. Story. Which, by the way, I don't know why I call it his staff because it's not technically his staff. It is the production crew on the movie upon which he is Working and is the star of But they're not employed by him. I understand that. That's a complicated thing to say. But it doesn't matter. Here's the deal. Okay. Bring everybody up to speed. Bradley. What happened on the set of mission impossible with Homos cruise. So Tom Cruise? Um Yelled and berated. Uh, Crew members from the set of Mission. Impossible Mission. Impossible. 300. I don't know what number do I think it's like Thunder 27. That rant was recorded. Um, And in the rant, he not only berates the employees individually and uses strong language. He's verbally abusive essentially to these people that apparently happened more than once. But the Recording of that went viral. Which led to everybody doing the thing that they do, which is have opinions about it. And it's Tom Cruise, and he is a complicated individual, controversial for one very specific reason Church of Scientology and that has created sort of a firestorm of a new story for the last 48 hours. So, um George Clooney was a guest on Howard Stern on Wednesday and he was asked about this episode. Um And George Clooney. I don't know. I feel like there would have been well, doesn't matter. Here's what he said. I'm not going to judge what he should have done. I would have done something different doesn't matter. Here's what George Clooney DiDio. Quote. He didn't overreact because it was a problem. I have a friend who's an A D on another TV show who had just this almost the exact same thing happened with not quite as far out a response. I wouldn't have done it that big. This is George Clooney talking I wouldn't have, you know, pulled people out. You're in a position of power. It's tricky, right? You do ever responsibility for everyone else, and he's absolutely right about that. And you know if the production goes down, a lot of people lose their jobs, people have to understand that and have to be responsible. It's just not my style to, you know, take everyone to task that way. So

George Clooney defends Tom Cruise's COVID-19 rant

"Mission impossible. Staffers have reportedly quit after tom. Cruise flipped out a second time. Now remember the first rank talked about it yesterday. Listen to this girl right. So that's a little bit of it. That leaked audio was published by the sun after crew members reportedly broke kobe. Protocol in the new york. Times has confirmed it was authentic. Now a source tells the sun that. Tom lost it a second time after that tape went public. Now this supposed second rant was not caught on tape. Seventy don't have a clip of that but people are quitting apparently over his rants gory. Owlry is probably elliott. Husband uber waiting to get there. I told you guys this yesterday. People are not only extra sensitive right now. But everybody's gonna lawyer. Yes monitor coal just for thing in say like you. Verbally harassed me on barest a by reputation. You know all those things. And that's what what. Who is the keeper of tom. Who's keep you always have a job keeping tom. Okay for a person who is your keeper. They never let you go off twice the first. I was in the bathroom that second time. You cannot because you lawyers and everyone talks to you. Don't you get the impression that tom is the personality that you don't tell them what to do. Thomas his but he's so sweet. There was a black gay. Their onset be like go off says go all the way. The damage has already been done. Half of hollywood already agrees with you. Had george clooney come out and say he understands that tom was talking about. Because you're right and you're right yesterday and i agree with you. Tom cruise has a lot on this on the line on this movie. He's not only an actor in it. He's a producer and he wants to keep everybody safe. He wants to keep everybody pay me. He wants to give everybody employees. How can of all that. They've had to stop for covert reasons. There's been multiple delays in this movie. Right like the more delays more money costs every business knows that so i time it's like come on guys. We're never going to finish this movie. And i understand. That was the first the second time talking interrupting because very upset because the first time passionate before dying. The second time is going off is what you recorded me. How dare you say now how we forgiving. But that is a breach of trust you cannot record somebody without their knowledge and guess. What if one of you did it here. After on the first time in believe i'ma go off that is me up. Now you for cover protocols but now that you're lincoln me to the tabloids so that's the kind of atmosphere we're gonna have on this level up. I'm gonna remedy rallies.

Tom Cruise scolds film crew for violating coronavirus rules

"I don't know if you guys saw like. I said you probably have probably haven't the little leaked audio clip of tom cruise on the set of his new mission. Impossible movie now. He's filming this in the uk and we're seeing. what's reported. Is that tom cruise during shooting saw that there were two crew members that were standing in front of a monitor and they were not standing within six feet of each other so he popped the heck off and he went on a profanity filled tirade. That sounds pretty bad. But what are you saying was facts if you ask me. He was really upset but he was just say he was throwing f. bombs calling them other effort but he was just saying the end. I mean he doesn't say no apologies at the end he pretty much summarizes by saying. That's it no apologies. You can tell it to the people that are losing their homes because our industry is down. It's not going to put food on their table or pay for their college education stop. I'm not taking any more apologies. Stop it if. I see anyone else doing this. You're getting fired. I don't care. Get out of here. So i mean the the interesting part of all this. Is that someone someone as this is happening. Decided to put the cell phone and try to record him. Going on this. I i would feel betrayed fouls tom cruise but again it. Is tom cruise. What kind of expect. I'll know and then i was. I was reading the comments about this leaked audio footage. I saw. I want to say ninety nine percent of people agreeing with tom cruise. Being he's right he's stating facts like icy icy and hear no lies here especially when he was talking about how people are losing their jobs and people can't don't have food on the table and tom cruise is also making making point saying that all of hollywood is looking at them right now. They're production team on how they're because a lot of people said that they could not pull this off especially with the fact that they're filming in multiple countries without having to shut down because of covid nineteen so tom cruise is very passionate about this. Because clearly a lot is at stake insurance companies and all that and like you said all of hollywood is looking at them to be the example and to see if they could pull his offer no so he ain't plan and i don't think he should i you know ultimately he is a person so whether you or i would have handled the situation differently. We don't know how many times he's had to ask people on set to follow guidelines. I'm sure they were wearing their masks. Because we can hear him saying anything about that but if the rules are stay within six feet of everyone else and possibly. Tom cruise has over and over told people like. There's so much riding on this. We cannot be breaking these guidelines. And then they do it again you know. Apparently maybe that clip the league clip was just that one blow up. Dodges set him over the edge. And let me tell you when you see a manager boss or someone like tom cruise angry like that. I would not be sixty two. Nobody i'd be moms out. Don't touch me don't look at me. I don't wanna be the one getting yelled at. Because i'm sure those crew members felt really little after getting yelled out like that

Movies can be big, lumbering productions with a lot of expensive moving pieces. Here's NPR's Andrew Limbaugh on the difficulties of moviemaking during Cove. It Here we are. Earlier this summer, a much Sonnier and bright eyed Tom Cruise tweeted a video of himself going to a movie theater undercover to watch his movie tenant back to the movie theater. It's a different side of the actor than what's in the leaked tape. But the point is the same. Tom Cruise wants the movie industry to keep going, but that's a tall order. The biggest thing is to make sure that we sort of hard wire the new norm so they can safely continue. That's Dr Reginald Nesbitt from the Safe way forward consulting group that works with studios and production companies to create Covitz safety protocols. A lot of it is the same stuff. We all have to do, wearing masks, staying 6 ft. Apart from each other, But there are a few things specific to movie productions. To consider, for instance, scouting up locations become important. What of the size of the cast and the crew that are going to be in a particular square footage? Is there adequate ventilation for your particular shoot? They loved to shoot in abandoned buildings. There's no ventilation system. Never gonna make it. Madona. Russell is a ventilation specialist and a safety consultant for SAG. After that's TheStreet Actors union, which also represents some NPR employees, and she's also a safety officer for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Earlier this year. Those unions, as well as the Directors Guild, and the Teamsters got together and laid out basic safety guidelines for productions. Russell was a consultant on that project. We just had to look at absolutely everything because on a film location, you got trailers. You've got the venue itself. You've got places where they do make up. You know, It's just really a mess. And if one person tests positive, and then another and then another Production could get shutdown in October. The Sun the same tabloid that leaves the audiotape reported that production on Tom Cruise is mission Impossible. Seven had to be delayed for fear of a covert outbreak. And, of course, the lease cost money. But Dr Nesbitt says keeping people safe on a movie set goes just beyond money. It even goes beyond keeping people in the movie industry safe. That's NPR's Andrew Limbaugh. Muir listening to all things considered.

"Okay so who Everyone their newly leaked audio allegedly showing. Tom cruise yelling like seriously yelling. Crew members on the mission impossible seven. He's berating the crew for breaking covert protocol which no one should be breaking protocol. But i dunno take a listen and see if he would handle the situation in the same way at all. All won't every in use the us we are creating is reportedly saw two crewmembers standing together in a monitor. Not six feet. Apart which is what sparked outbursts mission impossible. Seven has been hit with several cove related delays most recently when they had to shut down production after several crew members tested positive in october. Who tom cruise. I forgot that he has an anger problem. I forget about the sometimes. You know i get it but i don't get. It is different way. You could handle the situation these crew. The set seemed really hard places to manage The restrictions in the protocols that are in place you need to follow them so that people say. But it's like you know the conundrum of lake. Do we need to be making an action film. In the middle of a pandemic. I dunno complicated because action from very intimate thing movie sets are very very intimate things and to have these people. Have tom cruise yelling at people who make far less money than him. Who just trying to do their jobs. I i just feel. I'm conflicted about it. No no and it makes sense and think the answer is just that both of these things can be true that you shouldn't yell at someone like that. also you should be following falling protocol. So it's just like but then as you said it's just like it's it's upsetting because it's like okay. Yes anyone under the pressure that he's under. I'm sure like he expressed it in a very negative and and productive way but also he. There's a way to not feel that pressure and it's too like you said not be filming an action movie right now

"And then that's why i'm voting for now that's a that's going to be like. What the heck did we say. We just missed that cold cut. Sean so i i mentioned were talking mainly for forbes. We're gonna take this audio. Put it out as a cast as well and I want everyone who's listening and stuff to to know that this is kind of interesting. I mean i was just decided. I'm going to watch a documentary. While i'm on my treadmill and so choose brand new recommended for me net flicks versus the world on amazon prime which reading from imdb the story of how a tiny broke silicon valley startup slew giants of the movie rental world warded off amazon and forced movie making and distribution into the digital age. And i was blown away by it. And i mean like who made this thing and then i said who shone coffin and i want to make sure i don't forget so i i learn a little bit about you from your website. Texas movie director dot com. I then started stalking you on twitter. Where you're handle is dude versus movie. And that's a dude. Vs movie and i reached out and said hey man. I'm a fan from a couple of angles a the netflix's story but also what it's like to be an indie moviemaker these days. Do you wanna talk and you were nice enough to say yes. So welcome to the cast. Thanks for chatting for forbes. Thanks for having me. I mean when you reached out. Like i've i've actually used twitter to reach out to people that watch the movie. So it's it's interesting to talk to people from like south. Africa are vancouver or across the pond in england. Because you know as a you know Independent moviemaker here in austin texas outside of hollywood itself. It's it's cool to have your work seen around the world expr- especially when it was a. It was a tough hill to climb so to speak to get the film ned. Well we'll get more into that in a second but so how. How did you get into the movie making business. What's your back when you look like a pretty young guy so to have something like you know out there like this seems pretty. Cool my Camera must be doing good things for me. 'cause i'm i'm thirty seven i have Four children and they definitely make me look tired. all the No so i I went to i. I went to college here in austin at university of texas to become the next you know mcconnell. Hey no no. I'm a texan. So i wanted to university of texas to get a film degree in the graduated I worked on a few independent films. Here in austin and then started working for tv on a show called room raiders. The basically someone would go through three different rooms in based on that they would decide who they went on a date with So yes oh. That show ended up getting canceled. But i moved out to la. And i did a celebrity interviews and red carpets for a platform call cannot lose which is a european station and i worked for the spanish version of that and so i was out there in hollywood for bed and and most most people in la will attest to this. Like you're not going to own a house in l. a. Unless like you're like a millionaire. You're hitting a big. We decided although i loved l. a. in i loved what i did out in la. I wanted to move back to texas. I could actually own a house tonight. And i ended up back out here but i always had the desire to kind of a make movies and like i said before having poor children young girls madeta girls In my wife having a successful career herself documentary as is what you can do. Is you could go fly somewhere for a week. Flight home to be with the family and everything so That's that's what i did in the first movie i worked on. There is a couple of guys making a trying to raise money to make a documentary about nickelodeon. And i grew up in that nickelodeon like i loading kid like. I didn't have the disney channel nickelodeon so it was definitely something that i was like. Well i'm used to interview in celebrities in such such like that. So i can jump onto this project and help them because Interviewing people for movies. Like tom cruise and will smith and everything. I knew the nickelodeon people weren't going to be above that level. So i was are used to working with a high profile tile talent so i came on there I helped shoot. I helped edit. And i helped produce and then at the end of that. I was looking on the next project i wanted to do in the book and i don't. I don't read a lot. Because i'm always jumping from show to show or working on different cell for spending time with my family but i read this book. That's called netflix. That epic battle for america's eyeballs which gina keating wrote. And it was. it was about netflixing their origin. That would be a great documentary. So i reach out turn. I was like hey. I'm starting my next documentary. I would love to interview you. She said why Actually started my documentary Maybe we should team up. And so that's how the the movie started.

"Today so I talked to troy information about the two hundred sacks and what it's going to take and what it needs and. The. Answer is as it needs everything. I. Was going to say a lot was his answer. It's always at the end of the emails like but they're seven dollars worth of parts on it we could probably sell. All right. Well, that'll be sweet. Yeah. So. It needs a change in. L. Series. With the F. I.. A head. The F. I had is kind of a big deal on the L series motors. Think. I have an F. I had on my six ten. I'm almost positive I do So Motor and all. That stuff. Really the real money's in the body the body you five grand worth of do the body. Other than that seems pretty. Pretty, straightforward and. Twenty five grand for the body before you start painting putting stickers on it. This is unclear somewhere down the invoice it says pain. Right So. You know and you try to think to yourself like what is that? What is the value of that car Like what is that car like it's got? It's got history. It's Tom Cruise history, but as we know. Sometimes, that's neither here nor there in in that world. But. It does have the sharp livery which is kind of coming up. You know what? I mean the the I think the Bob Sharp, the cars with the Bob Sharp livery are becoming more coveted. Yeah. A little rare and people are starting to see. What Bob sharps contribution was to that to Dotson and that and motor sports. And there's no reason why they shouldn't. I'm clearly his his partnership with Newman Newman sort of overshadowed Bob sharps. Involvement for for the most part. But Bob Sharp is should be I don't know just. Looked at every bit as as as a P. Brock would be when it comes to. The Datsun Nissan racing. Well of other stuff as well but he did a bunch of other stuff but but bob was a very successful racer. Yeah. So he has a lot of like driver of the year and and that kind of stuff I know 'cause he gave it to me, I got the steering wheel in my garage. Portrait portrait. Giant. Bosch are portrait boy I. Tell You man that cleans out he cleans. Hey. Didn't want that. So you know. So he was a celebrated in a in a good driver, I don't. And I don't Wanna I don't WanNA sell them short but I don't think he had a lot of international or sort of big game stuff. He had a lot of regional local and maybe national. But what I'm saying is is take a guy like John Morton and it's like, yeah, he drove all the. Stuff but that guy drove a Ferrari at. Allama. That guy was in a Ferrari five twelve or something Lamont that guy's done la like seven times that guy's name on any car that's been to twenty four hour Daytona are see bring John Morton's names on the side of the car. You know I don't think sharp. Got Into. That But I don't know but I don't have a recollection of it. I'm not sure why. He never sort of said, we're going to Daytona. You. Know what? I mean, right? But Still a celebrated driver and a winning driver and. Put together a real first class team I, mean that guy up semi trucks with cars that were just superior products to the other cars then break a lot. Fizi. As a driver, very successful driver on his team. As. Well, Yan. It's unclear Fizi I don't think Fizi was like a Daytona, Lama seabourn guy either maybe they just sort of kept it. Kept it on this one level this one scale. Yeah. Now he was for a stint or maybe initially Tom Cruise's instructor right sharp said. Fits, he's GONNA teach how to drive down a road Atlanta. The AD. Let's. Teach you how to drive. How that work well. Again by by all accounts. Tom Cruise who just launched himself strapped to the top of a missile to outer space ten minutes ago. Yeah. You got a picture a twenty six old version of that guy. Yeah. Whether it's fucking wife up in the stands. So Tom. Look I know these guys I know who these guys are. They are. The reason I know. Is because I used to be a boxing coach and there was more than one occasion when I was doing a private lesson or whatever, and I would I would spar with the client and I would I would give them instructions before we start. You know here's how you do it. Here's how we keep it at this level and Blah Blah Blah. Most guys could do it. Some guys were incapable of doing they start throwing haymakers immediately couldn't yeah and you'd stop and go hey, hey, it's GonNa live control destroy huge overhand, right? It's not forms bad not. We're here to do that just bring it in, bring it down a couple of notches and they go oh yeah. Sorry and they start again they throw haymaker. Now. I. I've worked around a lot of those people. I have a lot of people in my life. Yeah. It's just as our inability whatever's inside you just sorta takes over and so. By all accounts. It seemed that crews had skill. Yeah and it seemed like you know he was learning from from fifty and I think he had a win in the car. But I think that thing would come out in him and nobody no team owner once that guy driving his car that thing where it comes out, you know what I mean and so he was too too too aggressive I think and he got himself in trouble and Mimi Rogers at the time his wife said like that's that's enough of that right now I understand it that he is a very good a. Fantastic precision driver on on movie sets. Now sort of honed his skills by the way went back to Bondra and a bunch of times and just constantly trained, and you know he's all about doing the stunts and he's all about getting the camera angle and the you know to get the camera angle of somebody driving aggressively you want that person to be driving aggressively and he's done a lot of that and I don't know I I don't know what that means for him. If he got back into a racing car was competitive. Situation. I think he could probably handle the car pretty well, these days. There's no doubt about it. And although there obviously, they're kinda separate. Animals the you know stunt driving I think what happens is. Those Who knows he's matured slowdown whatever whatever it is the days go to. Is slowing down. There some people that when you put a few cars around them and a few cars ahead of them. They just Dr Diving into corners and stuff like that. Just that's who they are and that's why he is who he is. So it with all the skill, there's no doubt. The skills there the question is it's a sort of mentality. Can you pay yourself? Can you know I don't think Newman. Judging from some of Newman's moves on the track he didn't appear to have a lot of patience either. Right. But when you start to think about Newman versus cruise, what is the value of a Newman car versus a cruise car and what you have is both raced both celebrities both. Successful actors. Newman had a lot of success as a racer. So his cars have. Value for his celebrity and his success newman or a cruise. Not a successful racers only out two years not a very successful racer so The car is value. Valuable because of his celebrity and a little bit because he wasn't successful he was only out there for a limited amount of time. So now there's not. Forty crews cars out there. Really any crews cars out there that I can tell and there's a little newman a little of Newman's stink rubs off a little of it because you know he was there at all those races and probably yeah, you know sat in the car at least there's a little thing and the sharp livery, the kind of sharp. Sharp. Gets you back to Newman to a little bit. Well, those are essentially, yes. Those are bonuses to the value of this car but it you know look for good or bad. It feels a little bit more like memorabilia than it does racing car history. But what I do like is like what you and I talked about you know what? Cruises a part of the story and we have a Tom cruise racing suit and we have a Tom Cruise Helmet and we've got some photos with him and fitzy a newman altogether having the car finishes up that collection that point in in cruises life right and I think I think they go well together. I think they're all more valuable together the car with a mannequin, a tiny mannequin with with a with his racing suit and helmet on and a glass case looks fantastic. Yeah I. I concur. So we'll We'll move forward and. See where it goes but..

"Only we will the story of Tom Cruise movie of the society where the there are these people who are basically tortured these these three brothers and sisters who you have the ability to combine to kind of see the first see the future and see what people are going to do and so they're able to read their thoughts and be able to determine who's going to commit a crime and then they go and arrest that person before they've done anything and they put them into the state of of Stacy S. which I can only assume is its own level of holy hell and then Tom Cruise won the cops and then all of a sudden he's on the list and you have to go prove his innocence the the whole thing it is actually a very good movie when it's a movie because it's a cautionary tale it's not supposed to be a how to manual you know it's it's like nineteen eighty four nineteen eighty four supposed to be a cautionary tale not a how to manual so the FBI is doing this that they're looking to be able to analyze your threats in case you make a threat your time in a thread that I actually make or threat that you think that I made or a threat to you're going to tell me that I don't even know was a threat no joke about the people who claim to be woke see they know things that you don't know they understand things that you don't understand they see things you don't see feel things that you don't feel right so they know how to be aware and alive and they know what racism is they know a bigotry is you ever hear this from Alexandria costs of Cortez I don't know if I ever played this audio she was on the podcast pod save America it's it's run by a couple of guys are part of the Obama a team speech writers it's a very very popular and I think do I have the from the question I have from her let me look here trump becomes president and there's this debate about you know our trump voters racists and clearly see the rallies you see some of the stuff online and there's racism there and then I wonder like I don't necessarily want to vilify people who vote for trump at the same time you also need to call racism out and I don't know how even be on trump I don't know how we ever sort of pieces back together or we were the spaces for these conversations that it's not Twitter now it's certainly not so the idea is that that he sets up for revision of a classic Cortez here is the idea of trump supporters as racist can you blanket say they're all racist yes and now compact connected to this precogs story out of reason of the FBI wants to come through the social media and make a determination if you made a threat based on what they're trying to pre decide listen to represent of a costume Cortez and how she utilizes her so called logic here well first of all I think when the biggest mistake that we have and it's a trap that gets set by the right whether intentionally or unintentionally is just the frame of asking is blank racist that is something that we have to pull ourselves out of it's not about asking whether trump voters are racist we need to talk about racism not Hey Seth yeah so she first wants to go about telling you there's a difference we don't talk about racist we have to talk about racism by racists it's a very two dimensional boring conversation is something racist yes or no and then you do about that we need to talk about racism it's con towards its histories where it manifests how it's used because like all winning political phenomenon whether they're good or bad in your opinion they rely on coalition building so trump relied on the coalition and a core part of that coalition were racists let's stop in this scenario she is determined your guilt as you determine your guild by applying herself to another plane right so it's not about the racist it's about racism and the contours and this and that and the other the first things first of course trump won with racist which based on her definitions and her desires include you because she has put herself in the position to be able to decide who the racist is because she is the one who thinks she gets to make good decisions on the definitions and the definitions are not based on things that we might all agree on but rather on the things that are her whim like for example if she were to scroll through your social media feed and take something that you know to be innocuous but she decides has deep dark meaning my goodness look at that photo you know you made the okay symbol in that photo well that's clearly a white supremacist we understand how ugly the solace when we look for meaning in meaning in meaning and don't listen to words if I put out a tweet that says he'll Hana Mars an anti semite based on what she has said and done which is a tweet I pretty sure I put out there to the world to the Alexandria cause you Cortez is of the world then take that we come back to me and say oh you're a racist what do you mean I'm a racist I'm talking about is that there is some I don't wanna mark yes you're only doing that because she's a brown person she's a woman of color that happens all the time I am the guy who popularized the term racer I did not create the term but racer is somebody who's conspiratorial about race this goes back to the days of Barack Obama if you do if you were not a fan of your not a believer in obamacare your racist what are you talking about it's a terrible policy it's because he's black I'm not in favor of government run healthcare shore because the black guy wants it you see how that works what made reading into your tweet any different how is it any Tom Cruise is also completely like avoided, like like, you know, how Will Smith has to become more relevant, make his own Instagram videos. Now, Tom Cruise is not like tweeting up a storm or Instagram videos behind the scenes, Instagram or Twitter, you know, I checked and he recently did, I think for mission impossible. But it's like almost like run by his like. Clips trailers. It's not like hanging out with this person. He so guarded. I can't imagine a world where Tom Cruise's driving or texting on his phone. How is that one? It wasn't as good as the like. I like these. I like. Locked BUSTER. Tom Cruise will like Jack Reacher and. Lived, I repeat or Edita that was called and and the mission impossible's. Like in those movies, he's the man. He knows like what's any like in kick ass. And in American made, he's like sort of a pilot who like stumbles onto like dealing with the cartel, like he's not an action hero see him. You don't buy them as guy who can't do everything. Yeah, the party was bored to play. Like why it right in American made he should've singlehandedly taken down tell 'cause he's Tom frickin cruise. That's why. Can you sing. I don't think he'd even like had a plot. It was just like, hey, let's go. Yeah, they look so horrible. "There were like she wasn't really sweaty and it didn't look like each time. I know that you think women can't be athletes, but I think she ran the there were like she wasn't sweaty and like it looked like she wasn't wearing a sports bra. Oh, somebody soon. Analyze the video. It was like she was wearing like a like a fancy bra or no bra, but they were like, you can't run a marathon, not wearing a sports bra like you're gonna get chafed clear at that point. I don't know if she was like really like, of course she was in Scientology, but I think she was like. Probably like wisc through a bunch of courses because you Tom Cruise's wife, and then it was like, cool. So you're level five. And she was like, okay, I'll just hang out here like she and see Mike. She got super into it right. That's why she ran away. Well, Tom, I disagree. I think she, I think you should stop trying to rob this young woman, Oliver accomplishments. Yeah. There's some good trivia. About Tom Cruise that I think we should bring up the internet movie database, do you know? And this is from there. Speaking of Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise has been married three times, and every time he's got divorced, his wife has been thirty four years old. I didn't know that. Yeah. Are you upset that you can't be as wife now. Too old. Apparently he would divorce me years ago. It'd be fun to be married to Tom Cruise though. Right? Just to be clear that was l. jokes. I don't actually believe that. Don't tell played, how is it a clerk. It's because I- somebody's phone. This is going to be like the like it's going to set a record for the most. Something. One piece of evidence has been used multiple trials. So you hoping at some point. In the future, defamation lawsuit like your defense attorney. You can play a clip if you saying. Hey, befuddle to be married to Tom. Yeah. Bygones be would when you're married to Tom Cruise, you don't have to. Yeah, you don't probably don't have to interact with them all that much. And you know you get your Meal's cooked for you. Wouldn't that be awesome per? You wouldn't marry somebody if he was like, hey, you don't have to worry about like procuring food. You just ask for whatever food you want, and somebody will make it for you wouldn't marry somebody just to get my milk. For me. Not by your spouse by your spouse's no staff. No, I still wouldn't be enough for me. To marry, pray to marry anyone, but especially to marry a man like. Whatever you're, you're uptight. I am too tight. Consider marrying Tom Cruise, Tom, did you know this? Tom Cruise has one now, you know what, though if he took me out a motorcycle ride and if he got down on one knee pricey. Yeah, Tom, I'm telling you. He didn't win an Oscar. I think we're both underestimating his his charisma, in-person Mel. I'm positive that he's, I watched a thing today with him like a interview from, like, you know, like a geek movie news website and the person was like, yeah, every time I've interviewed, Tom Cruise have been short interviews, but like he knows my name. He knows things about me like he's read the last few things I've done and they're like, you know, I interview these people like press junkets all the time and like I get it. I get why people don't. They can't remember all this shit and they can't, but they're, I don't know how he does it, but he doesn't. And it's crazy. He's the only person that like really like, you feel like he knows you? Yeah. Well, he connect. Yeah, weird teeth, Tim. I was just about to bring up his teeth because they're beautiful teeth very. Nice teeth. There shifted one tooth over. Yeah. One of his teeth is right in the middle. Yeah, I think what they did. Just like, hey, you wanna have a winning smile. You end of the winningest smile in history and he's like, hell, EM, Tom Cruise. This is one of the things that I need in somebody's like, we're going to pull out every single one of your teeth..

No. I mean, look, would I like to be compensated for that work? Maybe, but if you keep Zeno away, hey, hey, flower day. Keeps statements one by one thing like nobody who did that stuff complain. They all had a blast. It sounds like like doing it. Yeah, maybe I don't like when people will, would you like, would you kiss somebody else was really religious about a another religion? Would you think that was weird? Yeah, I don't go see Kevin Sorbo movies while you shit. They've got really good. Yeah, I think he just did the like God is dead to anytime. I'll tell you what to God's, not dead to also God's dead. Gods actually did somebody got. Somebody's been God liberals killed him. Yes, Dom crews. I. Yeah. I mean, you can't be like that involved. Hey, but yeah, Tom Cruise. Volve and and. Never talk about it and turn seemingly turn a blind eye towards everything. While the head of that Colt is your best friend, your best man and everything like, yeah, no, he's he's complicit and all this at the very least, you know who my best man was Tom, Tom Cruise. Wow. Did he ride a motorcycle at your wedding ceremony? Buddy. Did wheelies motorcycle a while. What our wedding day. They left the padlock. Oh, that's sweet. That's nice. Do that's the star power of Tom Cruise? Exactly. Hey, crews is doing donuts and we lease back there. Keep the padlock off tonight. He jumped on that couch on Oprah and was like, I love Katie Holmes, fine, whatever we all did America sweetheart. I would have done that. Although I did see a story planted in page six, I believe. Something has to be planted in page. I think he'd just send it to them. Yeah, exactly. Here's page six or like us weekly or something. I don't know why I was reading it, but back when they were married husband and wife sharing a marital bed, Tom. She ran Katie Holmes did ran the God is your favorite thing to talk about, Tim. I can't even tell you how many times I've heard you bring this up. Think about this twenty four this all the time. Yup, because I'm not. I'm not shitting on you. This is fascinating. Honestly, three or four times a week. I think insane. This is Katie Holmes runs the New York City marathon. There's a, there's a blurb about it in page six or us weekly or something because she didn't publicize it. Nobody knew she was doing it. They were like, and then you know, like, you know, they were keeping track of where she was because Tom Cruise couldn't just wait along the, he'd be mobbed people. Notice. They waited for like just before she was like coming over the hill for the finish line, Tom Cruise, like stepped up to the finish line to cheer on his wife is child bride. Katie Holmes, finishing the New York City marathon. She finishes it and then the reporter, the journalist documenting this claims. She runs up to. She goes through the finish, runs up to Tom Cruise. In insist here I am baby signed, sealed delivered. I'm yours and the kiss and they kit. That didn't happen how we she's an actress. She's a professional actors, but she have dairy, but she, she, she delivers the Stevie Wonder line and everybody's just like, oh, this is a normal thing. Twenty miles. These big productions doesn't have a movie every year. He comes close though. I actually I'd be hard pressed. Maybe that's not the movies and some movies. He hasn't taken a year off. Well, he took three years off between Jerry Maguire and is wide shut, but I think is why shut win. Just super long, right? Yeah, because he was supposed to be in what was it? He's supposed to be like another movie like a big movie. Oh, what was it like? Went to Will Smith instead handcock. It wasn't a Hancock. Hancock is an underrated movie. That handcock fifteen years. I'm never going to see it. I'm sorry, you're a good friend of mine that is Cam ideas in it too. I think what I think it has somebody you never want to see a sequel Shirley there on. I was get them confused. You shouldn't. Well, I do so different. I should know I'll women are the same to you objects. No, it's just like they two blonde women who normally have like are going after the same roles going after them, but they have similar roles. Look, you'll be much easier to keep everything straight now that Charlie, Sarah on the picture, not sharp. Got damaged. Miller, one Cameron? Yeah, we've been talking about. She's the picture now. Yeah, I'd like to see night and day. I bet that movie is. Looking up as I am db earlier today. I forgot he was in that movie. I remember watching the trailer and thing and like fun doesn't look like it's going to, you know. Knock citizen Kane off the top one. That list of the top one. Citizen Kane. I watched a few minutes of citizen Kane the other day town. Can I tell you what boring? Yeah, people in black and white talking to each other. Yeah, Bolivian I think that's my. That might be my very Tom Cruise movie. Can I ask you something? What the hell is oblivion? It came out and twenty. Thirteen ahead, Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman. And Melissa Leo Zoe Belle. Veteran scientic strapped. Earth's remaining resources begins to question what he knows about his mission and himself. This was during the time when like he was just kind of doing he was like the only person out there doing like a rigid original science fiction. That wasn't an adaptation of anything came tomorrow, which is an adaptation, but it's like an adaptation of a Mangga comic or whatever. It's like. And they apparently comic, you say, in apparently they changed a lot of it. From that? Yeah, Tom get this. He lives. He dies, then he repeats it all. That's what they name the movie. Yeah. Collateral is a very good movie, Tom, I watched collateral on a plane recently. Yeah, I think where we going somewhere together, think I was there. I don't travel. Not since the incident while I thought it was. Sorry. What is lions for lambs? He played Senator Jasper Irving in it. When did that come out? Two thousand seven sustained by two army Rangers behind behind animal lines in Afghanistan. It's blink would to style humor. What the hell is Robert Redford Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise, I've never heard of this movie my whole life. He has a weird he has. He has seen career, right? He does it all is he. I know I talked crap that nobody actually likes him. I do think if you met him in person and I was telling you this unrelated conversation earlier today, that wasn't even about Tom Cruise. Like I bet if you bet Tom Cruise in real life, he'd be like you'd be blown away. Like I'm suspect when going clear the documentary based on that book that's. We're not talking about this good. I was like, okay, good. They're finally going to take this scumbag down. This guy's Teflon like he's he's more beloved than ever now and people know more unseemly things about him than they ever had. The only real unseemly thing is all of the stuff. Building his his airplane hangar in cutting grass? No, it was like it was after he got married to Nicole Kidman they came back and like they had made the most amazing garden anyone had ever seen. And that was like, yes. Well, I mean, we probably shouldn't say this stuff. Yeah. I mean, we Scientology labor that, you know, it's it's up to them whether they wanted to do it or not. I would..

I liked tropic thunder, but it's one of those movies that I don't understand why people like love it and think it's like one of the best movies ever made. I don't know that anybody similarly, we're like so blown away by Tom Cruise, and it's like, well, he came in for a day or two and the e can you know a wacko for a minute when people are just like. I'm a trailer, fiend trailer, freak Eliah times trailers nowadays. They've seen that aren't even in thing movie. Yeah. Fake out. The trailers used to be like the after the movies. I didn't know that that's why they're called trailers. Oh, oh my God. Tom, that blows me away. Why did they change it? So people actually watch him. I guess nobody, you know what? I feel like trailers where after the movie back when. Nobody had anything to do. The movie's credits were like three seconds, log words. She'll like the director's name and their top five built stars hundred. Nobody cares to help the boom mic shut up go. But now they could bring him back now that there's the, the post credits and all that. I guess you could say, you could argue that that kind of is a trailer. Yeah, they're getting back to the old ways. Tom, you just blew my mind. I turn my u-turn my way. You turn my thinking. You turn my brain on crazy bowed Brandon crazy, but it's. Gauge. Gears up there. Trying remember this last mission impossible had, no, it had like a snazzy and credits, you know, like not just a black screen and white text, but like shoot. Yes. They make it four, four of five, four idiot. All right. Read a book on music. Junior and the other guy from? Yeah. Play Tonny in the in the in the first one, at least. Why by bond, the edge like took lead on the Spiderman musical there were like, now we're gonna sit out this mission, impossible movie with the most bankable star in the world. Anyway, Christina Applegate was asked about a sweetest thing reunion or Applegate. Yeah, she was awesome movie. Confusing and she was like a sequel and she was like, oh, I mean we'd love to, but Cameron Diaz is retired, and then she's like, oh crap. I wasn't supposed to say that. And then everybody went digging and must have been sad for Cameron Diaz be like, nobody noticed I was gone. Yeah. So you think she instructed like all of our friends don't tell anyone..

I don't know like he's the guy that like everybody says is like, hey, what a consummate movie star, right? Yeah, but like, what do you actually like loves them? Right. Only now in this weird. I don't understand what kids are doing these days. Gonna blame fortnight for Tom Cruise. Here's my thing. Like feelings. A have been like devalued, like what is shit posting. I feel like the fact that young people are like Tom Cruise rules. Is like the movie star liking equivalent of shit posting where it's just like, and no. It's funny to say that it's not ironic. He is kind of cool, but also like I'm just gonna. I'm just going to. Has he get older years, get more and more paranoid that everything's a trick on you or check on me. Refused to play the game. Of course. Yeah. You're the only one to smart. You cant outwit somebody who's above it all. It's my mom. I don't think it's ship posing. I think it's literally actually, I will say that. I think one of the reasons why mission impossible six fall our does that is is like, what does that have to do with Tom Cruise is doing so well and such zeitgeist right now is because it's one of the few movies that this summer that is not part of marvel or like other cinematic universes, it is. It is, but it's it's own franchise and like ano- it's almost like a hearkening back to the way franchises used to be like, well, yeah, there aren't like spinoffs and separate movies that are connected. It's like, Nope, there's one and two, then three, then four, then five minutes. Six. That's that's older. You watch him in to watch other things understand what's going on at the league. Before you're talking about discounting, movies from another franchise. It was so boring. I've blocked it from my memory, but yeah, this doesn't do that. Right? Because there's barely any continuity between the. Like the later movies got a little more serious about continuity than the early ones. Tom disclosure. Yeah, because then it's like well, and it might be other countries. Requesting movie accent is that that is just a general's general foreigner accent over here. Exactly saying that they're nicer than the US. Yeah, but you know what? Sometimes they requested and the movie company comes back goes, you know what now? So that's when you got back. I tried. I tried it your way. I tried to be nice now pictures. The night man, this movie right now, and they're like, well long, my home. This is my Sonos sound base that will. That will be way too loud.

Yeah. Is it like twelve angry? Does he have to convince everybody that Mr. freeze is in fact innocent, I I think that is the case, like mister freeze is being railroaded. Oh, so this is really expressed. Do they say that? No, I haven't read this week's yet. Maybe they do in which case I demand. Barely makes sense, but it makes sense. It makes sense. Yeah. If you don't think about it too hard pond anyway, Tom, Tom, we should probably get right into the topic. We probably should. I don't know how much we have to say about it about him about the man. We always pretend like the only person that doesn't know the topic right now in Perico sitting over here, their topic. Gets face. You just said her name. She has no interest in doing no even record. Yeah, everybody else knows it. So on a cat three, let's say it. One to know your counting weird at home. Kenzees not saying letting you do your finger counting, but you're you're, you're doing the finger slow. What are you doing? What are you typing? I'm just trying to look. I want to be able to jump into the topic. Say the topic then what are you typing? My password, it's too long and typed it in Rome. 'cause I got nervous. Cripes the topic is Tom Cruise may pot there. The fourth? Yeah, colloquially the loan known as Tom Cruise. Yeah, the man the running of the running man out the running man. That's an entirely different man. What if I was going to cast the running man in a movie? I don't think Arnold. Second of a runner. He nine distance runner. I could see him being the Tim. He can run a mile. He did the president's fitness challenge, Tim, he's Arnold Schwarzenegger can run big to run. He's not too big. His knees are probably not the strong even ran for governor true and one. Yeah, shouldn't discount. Hey. The the governor, the nadir big, go the governor, not that governor Manege. Governor there in the middle of making terminate or six right now pool with with him. You're saying that they're going to continue a franchise, but it's crazy. I was reading. They're like Terminator six. We'll take place. Following the events. Terminator two still be ignoring Terminator, three rise of the machines. Terminator four step seeing Terminator first of all, talk Terminator salvation and Terminator Genesis. And it's like all of those movies also ignored the other movies like you guys are like at some point, you can't keep just like rolling the dice and be like all right now. No, no, no, no, not that one. Not that one. This one. Tom, are you going to see this movie this movie in the theater. Thanks Bradley multiple times. So I'll see it opening night. Okay. On the red carpet, can we stop talking about? We're talking about Tom Cruise. Okay. The man that everybody loves all of a sudden I think a lot of people have always loved him. A lot of people like them, some people loved him. Rosie, O'Donnell. Did they ever date get married? They finally, yeah, she's lovers. That's..

"Through with the character and the dedication to a craft. The comes through in what was clearly hours of repetition and practice in order to become that good all do come through in that cruise performance, even though it is one very early in his career. So it's hard to sort of argue, it's a culmination of everything cruises done. But for me, it doesn't body that got us. It added to the list of Scorsese's I have to see before it can be a complete on him. But yeah. Paul Newman, Tom Cruise answer says the definitely made Saddam. I catch up list. So I mentioned the Nicholson book. We've talked a lot about her. We might as well hear from her as she did in her Twitter bio informs us of this. She literally wrote the book on Tom Cruise. We had to ask her what's her favorite, Tom Cruise performance. And anytime we do this, I get a little bit concerned that it's going to be one of the films that's on our list. Maybe it's an overlap. She says, born on the fourth of July. We've already babbled about that or Jerry Maguire. It's not gonna at anything that we haven't already heard the listeners have already heard. Well, we did not have to worry about that with Amy, Nicholson, hey, guys, Nicholson here, the author of Tom Cruise anatomy of an actor. So of course I wanted to call in with my favorite Tom Cruise performance hearing, and I'm saying favorite not best, but maybe best, but definitely favorite. My favorite, Tom Cruise performance is less dot an interview with vampire, and here's why. I don't know how much people remember the outrage win. Tom Cruise was cast as the Stott. I mean, if we had had Twitter back, then it would have completely burned down. People were furious. They've really wanted Dan Lewis or really like anybody. Besides Tom Cruise to play list dot this like fashionable thin, red haired, European men who just like exuded sex appeal because the thing Tom Cruise is even in his movies, or he's sexy and romantic. He doesn't get exude sex appeal. Like I mean, when you think about him, in magnolia, he doesn't kiss anybody. He doesn't make anybody. He just talks big game and that's kind of been cruises MO really. He's not that much of a man to kill anyway. I digress. What I'm getting at is that Tom Cruise was so committed to doing Justice to the role of Stott here at every single book. In this series, he really knew dots biography, not just the stuff that you see in interview with the vampire in that script and in that book. But let's arc a somebody who. Loved in the past and lost and handle this fear about the people he loved, leaving him behind. And you see Tom Cruise channel. This really deep and empathetic knowledge of the Stott into the character. You see when he plays piano four, kissing in the way his eyes light up when he thinks that she's being nice to him and that maybe he can build this family that they never give him a chance to really build the as villain pretty much from the get-go. You know what I find affecting about that role is that Tom Cruise is almost so good at la- Stott that he ruins the movie because I think Brad, Pitt intended to walk into it would just all of the audience's sympathy because every with vampire is so told from his point of view from Lewis point of view that Brad Pitt actually didn't even do any homework. Like he told interviewers at the time that he picked up interview with the vampire the book and threw it into the trash. So you're watching a whole move. Eighty watching mopey mopey Brad Pitt. Expect the audiences are going to side with him that list dots this jerk. But Tucker's started just so much more compelling and watchable in wonderful that to me, the movie falls apart because Tom Cruise, just so good. All I have to learn. They don't. Gift. Gave it to you. So that's my favorite Tom Cruise performance, and you might think I'm crazy, but for real watch it again every little detail he does in that film magical and that he could pull up that role when nobody thought he could. By the way. Thank you Amy so much for that. We will linked to more information about her book in our show notes, and we will also linked to an interview..

"It is the original and that's that's assertive a shame because there was something really uh you know i don't know like there there was i was talking with someone in their twenties that this week about the mummy sort of apropos of the podcast in and it's come it's coming out and my friend she said to me the the oak tom cruise that weird scientology guy rate and all and i says almost quarterback well this is my thing right now keep in mind she's she's more than ten years younger than i she's in her 20s and and and she doesn't know tom cruise as anything but the from like the couch jumping period on you know and so for me it was like well have you seen topgun no risky business no and i i like you know three or four more unlike that this is you know that that that that the thing that you can't reboot is tom cruise right and that and that like this there is there was god he was great he was like the perfect movie star you know and what he was the iconic mel masculinity 80s were like him and arnold schwarzenegger gives an away but mostly conquers what actually like the the let's call it the schwarzenegger crews continuum right i suppose there's someone there's someone else who is maybe a little more even even more delicate then tom than tom cruise right leg 'cause tom cruise represents intensity schwarzenegger represents braun and there's got to be a third a third triangle that the third point on the triangle that that that reflects i like intellectual achievement that referee that reflects cleverness or something like that uh so that we can complete our game of mary f kill we fit three 1980s 1980s movie stars in it it i mean the thing the thing is the the problem is not trying to rebuild the money the problem is that you know.
