"Top Gun? No. That would be bold. That was like your version of should we cut 1917 from a roger deakins podcast celebrating his work on 1917 and you got away with it. That's the last time we had a very normal pod together in person. Did you ever listen to that podcast? There was nothing normal about it. That was the joke. Amanda had to pee for 45 minutes. I think rain man out. I think this is you, but this is weird. This is not the energy that I want from you. This is not the energy that Tom Cruise. And the last Hall of Fame podcast being a great job by everybody. We did it. No, I mean, he always ends really any exercise with self recrimination. And also blaming us as well, you know? Because we're here witness to you. No. When the aliens come and when they study our culture, they're going to start with this pod, and they're going to listen to every episode. And Tom Cruise is going to be like, welcome, I have been preparing all these people for you. They thought I sounded crazy. Where do you want rayman is out? We have our ten. Our ten is risky business Top Gun, born on the 4th of July, a few good men Mission Impossible, Jerry Maguire, eyes wide shut, Magnolia, collateral, Mission Impossible fallout. I'm getting the cruise cake while you finish. Explain the cruise game. Okay. So there is a cruise cake. There's a cake at a bakery in the valley in Los Angeles. It's called domes bakery. And Tom Cruise sends it to all of the famous people in his life every year. And it's become like a particular date. I think it's for Christmas. As a Christmas card, it's like a Christmas gift. And he's done this so often that then it becomes like an anecdote for other people to tell on talk show. When I got my cruise case. Exactly. So you can Kirsten Dunst talks about the cruise cake arrived at the house and how exciting it is for them. Rosie O'Donnell posts a lot, like the cakes here this year. It's like Johnson gets a cruise cake from mummy. They got along really well. Should we call him? That's a kind of his number. It's a white chocolate coconut bundt cake. Okay. And this is the one that he always sends and people are like, it's amazing. I have to be honest, white chocolate coconut bundt cake. Does not sound amazing to me based on the those are two good flavors for me. You're a coconut person. I'm a coconut person too. And you like white chocolate? I do. I like it in cake. There's actually an amazing cake in Atlanta, Georgia, a piece of cake, they're white chocolate cake, if you're in the Atlanta area, you never had it, just like trust me, go right now. Tremendous stuff. No, that's just like my childhood. Okay. But I have always wanted to try this cake. And it's expensive uncle belly, so I decided that this was a good excuse for us to try the cruise cake. Let's dig in. Okay..

"That was awesome. You know what James Corden had a black wife. She would be at the bottom of that air being like, can I talk to you for a minute? You out here acting like you ain't got two kids at home. What is this? Are you crazy? Are you nuts? By the way, I'm the biggest coward in the world. I would have done this. Really? Tom Cruise, what happened? Of course. If it's Tom, yeah, I'm gonna do it. What you doing, daisy? Immediately no. No. Immediately, no. No. I love top two, but I'd be like, listen, let's just go out for a drink. Like that, what's wrong with that? Oh no, this is like, this is awesome. What is it that he can't do? He does air. He can fly a helicopter. He can fly it. He does his own stunts. He does everything. This is why we love Tom Cruise. I love Tom Cruise. I would get in there if I can fit..

"How do we get to night and day? Night and day, can I just shout out the, this is probably the time. I don't remember when the couch jump is. Is that 2005? Okay, so I know that everybody was really offended by the couch jumping alarm by it. But I thought that the promo tour for night and day was weirder when he was like, we are going to premiere this movie on every continent within one day. Was this when he appeared on one O 6 and park and did the young jock dance? I think so. And that was iconic. But this is one of those things where you're like, this is why movies collapsed is because they were like, what's important is that we premiered this film in 8 continents and that Tom Cruise flies around the planet in 24 hours. On the other hand, an original comedy thriller action comedy starring two of our best. Yeah. And it flopped. But it's not good. I mean, this is when he has a great premise. You know, she kind of gets scooped up into his world and you're like, he's like kind of an Ethan hunt type figure and then everything kind of flips as the film goes on. But it doesn't really hang together. This is when he's sort of off putting, like this whole era and I don't know. About ghost protocol one year later because I feel like that's the one where it's like hunt is back. Yeah, but like being Ethan hunt is not being a normal human being. He's like fully ascended to whatever messiah complex that he has going for the next decade. And it's almost easier to root for him or like watch movies or be excited when he's not even trying to be a normal human being. Right. So ghost pro is the Dubai skyscraper. Burj Khalifa. Yeah. Rogue niche is the Kremlin explodes. Rogue nation is the first mcquarrie ghost protocols Brad bird. Right. Okay. Just getting my story straight. Now, ghost protocol is good. We can just do the three mission impossibles right now. In my opinion, ghost protocol is good, rogue nation is great and fallout as exceptional. That's my feeling. And you go exceptional over great in this world. Yes. I feel like fallout.

"It's like the fourth best Mission Impossible movie. I think I drafted this in a movie draft recently. Did we do 2006? Yes. This is an incredible PSH movie. One movie I wanted, one thing movie draft I want to do is supporting character draft. Oh, that's a good one. Like using the same categories, like you only pick carrot anymore. You talk about that later. If you guys want to do something fun, watch the scene where Philip Seymour Hoffman counts down while having a gun to carry Russell's head and Tom Cruise is just like, tell me what you need to tell me what you need usually. Stop lying to me. Is that your kink? Yeah, I like watching PSH. Blow people away. 2007 lines for lambs. Nope. He plays senator Jasper. Take a while on this. So this movie alone, I'll never forget. I sat down and I was like, is this fair to have your mind blown? Robert Redford directs Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep in a political and Shia? Is Cheyenne? Believe shy is one of the helicopter pilots. And I thought that this was going to be all the president's men. And it was not. I fell asleep. Who's the journalist in this movie? I don't recall. Let's look it up. Lions for lambs. Is it not Rooney Mara, right? No, that is, oh no, that's Kate Mara. House cards. I don't recall. I'll tell you who's in this film, though. Michael Peña, Andrew Garfield, Derek Luke, Pete Berg. Pete Berg plays lieutenant colonel falco. Sure. Yeah, he does. When does he not? This is not a good film. Tropic thunder is a tough one. 2008, because this character was very celebrated tropic thunder was a huge hit. It was a spin for cruise, playing such a overtly comic character. It's still a cameo for the most part. It's a glorified cameo. He's doing some version of Harvey Weinstein meets Joel silver meets Rupert Murdoch kind of conglomeration, isn't it? I think it's great. I always found this to be a little bit like trying to. I mean, and this is the era of trying too hard. This was like a very desperate post 2005 things. Doing a lot of stuff for the MTV Movie Awards. Right, exactly. Please, hello, fellow kids. Like me again. And it worked to some extent. People thought this was hilarious. Yeah. So in that sense, it's important, but I don't know. Yellow? Okay, I'll make a yellow. Valkyrie is not yellow, it's red. Yeah. And this is still one of the strangest things that's ever happened. What an amazing collection of acting talent though. It's a good cast. Tom Wilkinson, Bill Nye, Brianna, Terence stamp. I mean, those.

"What does she find? Is it the firm in? I would like to put it in. Oh my God. I would like to put the firm in, but this is back to back lawyers and I go Kathy over McDonald, even though I make even though I actually think the mcgeer performance is Amanda let you put the color of money in without flinching. Yeah. And you just, she said, I want to put the firm in. I said, put it in, but when we get to the fat shopping, we're going to have to choose the lawyer. Okay. I didn't realize that this was a one lawyer only Hall of Fame. Damn it. It would be so sick if Daniel Cathy and Mitch mcgeer started their own firm. Yeah. And you could just be like those fucking talk to caffeine mcgeer. He knows the same guy. The firm two colon jag offs. That'd be good night. All right, 1994 interview with the vampire, revisited this movie recently for a movie about vampire movies with van. It was pretty bad. Yeah, it's going to be a pass for me. Yeah. One of the great all time red carpet photos though of Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, teenage Kiki, and teenage geeky, and some other people who are just there because it's the 90s. I can't remember right now, but very special stuff. Presumably Christian Slater was there as well. Oh yeah. Yeah, I forgot about that. I have an important question. Leading into 1996. Okay. Can I ask a question about the record keeping right now, Bobby? The firm is in yellow. I think I did that. Oh, okay. Sean, the firm is in yellow. Okay, put the framing green, bob. 1996 is when Mission Impossible begins with the Brian to Palmer. Entry into this franchise, some would say that still the best one in the whole series, something I would say. Shall we make an agreement amongst ourselves right now about how many Ethan hunts are going into the Hall of Fame? We certainly can, but that would probably diffuse. Or maybe it would maybe it would raise the drama. How many of greens do we have right now? All 14. Two, three, we have 7, 7. Okay. So I'm just asking, if you guys wanted to do more than one, I would say we should do one from the one to three era and one post three, if you want. I think that I would naturally do that anyway..

"You know, like that's what sort of strange about this iteration of him is his conception of himself as this evil knievel guy who is essentially defying death for entertainment where it's like, that was hardly the point up until 15 years ago. He does both though. So what you just described is Ethan hunt. Now that's the character of Ethan hunt. The movie is called Mission Impossible. He has to be an extraordinary circumstance every 20 minutes or the movie doesn't make sense. But edge of tomorrow, for example, is kind of like a newfangled eyes wide shutter Magnolia, where it's like the whole point of that character is he keeps dying and he's inept. And so he does have this self awareness. I'm not the first he's also the chosen one who's the only one who can get that far. Yeah, sure. Well, along with Rita vertinsky. Yeah. One of the great movie characters the last 20 years. He gets further and further away from the, to me, at least from the self awareness and the self exploration. And I don't know whether it's because of a self awareness of, okay, the Ethan hunt, like, you know, sanded down, save the day, easy Tom Cruise and jumping out of plane is what's working the best or whether that's sort of his post crisis rehab program and he's just, you know, image rehabilitation program and that's what he's sticking to or frankly being really famous makes everybody's mind go a little weird and some of it is probably just a response to being Tom Cruise for so long and like I start to see the I wouldn't call it self awareness but like the extreme fame and kind of what happens when you live in that bubble of jumping out of planes and saving the world for so long. I think it would come some sort of self perpetuating cycle. There's also the question of whether or not to go back to the one of the earlier points in this conversation. He sees himself as the last movie star and he can't afford to make an $80 million movie, you know? He could hope against hope if he made a bunch of those movies that one of them would be captain Phillips and everybody would be like, great movie, man. Yeah. But if he made 7 mid Tom Hanks movies and then it was like, yeah, you know, like we love working with you, but let's just put it straight to streaming. He seems to really believe that every time he goes on camera, it essentially needs to be a $600 million movie or it's a failure. Not to get ahead of ourselves though, but that's what makes American made by far the strangest choice in his career. Because that's a movie in this period that we're describing in which he can not lose. Like if he loses somehow the idea of movies and movie stardom loses. And he does this weird $60 million Doug liman 1980s Iran contra CAA cartel airplane movie that looks like shit. Yeah. And it didn't succeed. And maybe that was like. Maybe that was entirely closing. Yeah, it has no public reputation. I don't really know anybody who didn't saw it that aren't people who would be on a Tom Cruise podcast with me. And that's such an idea. The problem is that you're me and you've seen narcos you're like, I know..

I think Zach Wilson and Tom Cruise are apt comparisons because Zack is about to embark on a legendary run hopefully 40 years of greatness for the New York Jets. Okay. Thank you for throwing that in your jets player. Congratulations. I think top Top Gun is probably the first time I saw him too. We'll talk about this in a couple of days, but I was never a big Top Gun person. This was not that was not the thing that opened him up to me. Like you weren't when you were ten. I was a kid, yeah. It actually was not really a movie for me, which just makes maverick all the more exciting, frankly. Interesting. Yeah. I feel like I'm meeting a couple. Maybe it's like, 'cause Andy hadn't seen Top Gun before. I had seen it. I just you just don't love cinema. You know? Images. Person to ever say that. Images. And sound moving together. No matter how hard you try. There will always be a doubter out there. Do you really watch enough movies? Perhaps not enough if I can't truly appreciate it. 'cause I didn't dislike it. I know a lot of people have like cling to it. They have a huge emotional relationship to it. And I just didn't I honestly probably had a bigger emotional relationship to legend, which I'm not saying is a better movie, but when I was 7, Tim Curry dressed as a giant devil and a fantasy film. That was where I was at at that time in my life. You know, I wasn't on an aircraft carrier like Chris, you know? In his fourth year of enlistment. What do you like about him? What do you love about him? This is the hard part. This is the part where you're just like, ah, like he's like, he's like an element. What do I like about breeze? Yeah. What do you like about carbon? Yeah. Let's put it this way. I feel like he's as committed to being an entertaining movie star and thinks about it as deeply as Daniel Day-Lewis thinks about being an actor. And it's not to say that Tom Cruise doesn't think about being an actor, but I think that his project has been to basically.

"I'm Sean fantasy. I'm Amanda Evans. And this is the big picture, a conversation show about Tom Cruise. It's a whole darn week of cruise on the big picture this week, because Cruz returns to the big screen after four long years with Top Gun: Maverick to celebrate CR is here and he is going to help us construct the Tom Cruise Hall of Fame, hey Chris. You cut these guys loose. We are in person. The triangle of sadness is together. For the first time in years, recording a oh my gosh. That's true. We've seen each other. In intervening years, but we haven't recorded a podcast together in person. This should be much more like cast away. You know, I want to create that energy. If you guys excited to talk about Tom Cruise, always. Yes. Does it feel like we're always talking about Tom Cruise in one way or another? Yes, and yet it's been a long time since he had a movie. We actually have not had an opportunity to do very many Tom Cruise episodes of this show because I think we got one Mission Impossible movie in 2018 for that we didn't have a big picture. So interesting, it'll be fun for us before we get there though. I'd like to talk about the results of the 1992 movie draft. Is this like, are you reading from a prepared statement? No, no, there's no PR involved here. There's no crisis management because I emerged victorious once again. Back on top. And you might think I would gloat about my victory that you'd expect that for me. What I'm going to do is extended olive branch, especially to the CR heads. What I want to say is I see you and I appreciate you and I thank you. For your graciousness and the face of defeat all the way downtown. And your doing this strategizing, trying to get the CR heads who I have been informed. Have demonstrated some alliances with the dogma. Is that correct? I think so. Yeah, and so you're trying to isolate me. And undermine that alliance. And we're just not that stupid. We're not going to let it happen. This is really funny too, because this is like after a really a bloodbath campaign in the primary when the guy turns around is just like, I will be a Republican for all, though. It's just like, no, you're not. Yeah. This is mayor Pete throwing his weight behind Biden. It's like we have to close ranks. Who's who here? You're Biden? Sleepy Sean? Perhaps, perhaps. No, I just want to say thank you to all the voters. You know, we got the system right, you know? We got the voting machines under control. I feel like after when you opened up the doors, right? Like it was just like we threw open the doors to democracy and we had maybe one of the first true fair votes in the previous draft when we had the Google Doc vote the first fair vote. Yeah. And we had a big field, a big, a huge field of candidates to choose from..

"This is him to his father. So you have two copies. Two his father, about the same time. So this is hunter writing to his father. We were talking about talking about his niece. Okay, he said, the 14 year old says, she, his niece, 14 year old. She told my therapist that I was sexually inappropriate. And we left the name out when she saw that. I have to amend it. She is his sister in law. The widow of Beau Biden, with whom he was having an affair. So she told my therapist that I was sexually inappropriate with her daughter. With the daughter, 14 year old, when she says that I FaceTime naked with her and the reason I can't have her out to see me is because I'll walk around naked smoking crack something Tom Cruise. Talking Tom girl. Talking time girls on FaceTime when she was pressed, she said that so and so never said anything like that, but the bottom line is that I create and cause a very safe, unsafe environment for the kids. So that's the allegation from his sister in law. Allegation from his sister in law that the psychiatrist said that the niece said to her, the therapist, I think it's a woman. Her, my uncle is a danger, sexually inappropriate. He walks around nude, he talks to prostitutes on the phone. Now, if you go through the pictures, you're also going to see in that house of minor children, he spoke an excessive amount of crack.

You know, I spent the last week or so watching the new Jack reacher series on Amazon on Prime Video. It's just called reacher. Just reach her. And so I don't know if folks remember a few years back, there was a pair of Jack reacher movies starring Tom Cruise, and I always remember whenever it would come up. Fans of the series would say, oh, how could Tom Cruise stars Jack reacher. Tom Cruise is so small. You know, he can't be he can't be this big hulking, intimidating guy. And I always thought that was kind of, I always thought that was kind of a weak critique, right? "No joy Reid had a blog. 2007, 2008, 2009, before she became a hostel innocent behead. And in her blog, she made a number of posts smearing, mocking, attacking, gaze. She implied that Tom Cruise was gay. Karl rove. She said was gay. The then senator of Florida. Chris Christie. Charlie Christie. Charlie Chris weaver. She's called him miss Charlie, miss charley, stop pretending brother, it's okay, you don't go for the ladies. And another one she wrote, now he's married to a girl, Charlie Chris is being sought for all kinds of good stuff. Quote, I can just see poor Charlie on the honeymoon, ogling the male waiters and taking to himself, God, do I actually have to see her naked? It included a joke with Chris having sex with senator John McCain? She implied that chief justice John Roberts son is gay. She also said this, quote, most straight people cringe at the sight of two men kissing. She also said quote, adult gay men tend to be attracted to very young post pubescent types. And in one post, she said, quote, does that make me homophobic? Probably close quote. Now these posts emerged after she got a job as a host on MSNBC. And guess what, she denied making them. She said she'd been hacked. She was a victim of a homophobic hate crime. NBC hired a forensic specialist to determine whether or not she'd been hacked. She wasn't. She lied. Megyn Kelly Is Bulletproof Against the Mainstream Press

"Can you talk about how what you've learned in the last couple of years of kind of getting into this space of some of the political orthodoxies out there of things you're not allowed to talk about? For example, critical race theory or the trans issue, I'm sure you get some backlash for even talking about these things. Well, listen, I would say the one advantage to having been called all the worst names. You know, I've been called them all. I mean, and, you know, you sort of worry about that, right? When you touch these dicey issues, whether it's the trans stuff or the race stuff. And then to wake up one morning and see those names hurled at you on the front cover of every newspaper in the country. It's terrible to go through, but it's also quite liberating because the bad thing happened and you're fine. You know, it's painful in the moment. But then you look around, you're like, what's my world, my world's my husband, my kids, my Friends, my family. I'm fine. And now that the bad thing has happened, I feel totally free to talk about everything in exactly the way I want to because they've already fired that bullet at me and I'm still standing. So it's like the it reminds me of the scene in Jerry Maguire where Kelly Preston's character looks at Tom Cruise. And she's like, you can't hurt me, Jerry. I'm too strong for you. That's how I feel about the mainstream press. That's me with the mainstream

"Tom cruise is set to fly once again in the upcoming. Top gun maverick. The sequel to his hit from nineteen eighty six. When you think of the original topgun. Tom kaczynski and even though val unfortunately lost the ability to speak to a health battle in two thousand fourteen. It was tom himself. Who insisted there was no sequel without vow producer. Jerry bruckheimer tells people. Tom said we have to have him back. Tom was the driving force. We all wanted him. But tom was adamant that if he's going to make another top gun foul had to be in it. He's such a fine actor and such a good individual he goes on to say we had such a good time on the first one and wanted to bring some of the gang back together again. It was really emotional. Tom Cruise Makes Surprise Helicopter Landing in U.K. Family's Garden

"To tell you this story about Tom Cruise. Landing his helicopter in the garden of just like a normal family in the UK because an airport was closed. This is a story that they're going to tell until the end of time. So he's shooting the seventh installment of Mission Impossible, and he had to make an emergency helicopter landing in Families Garden because the airport was shut down temporarily and the homeowner whose name is Alison Web. That it turned out to be an incredible day. It was surreal. I still now can't believe it happened so they have like a field. You know they have land. It's like they live in Lake Elmo or something. Whatever. She and her family were told their field was needed for an anonymous VIP, who was running late. And so, she said, I thought it would be kind of cool for the kids to see the helicopter land in the garden. And then Tom Cruise arrived and got out and they were like, Oh, my gosh, This is Tom Cruise. So then Tom Cruise said he went right over to the kids to chat. And then he said, Thank you so much. And then he said, if you if you would like the kids are welcome to go up in the helicopter. Oh, and so then the kids got to take a ride. In the helicopter, and they took all these pictures with him. And you know, socially distant and they were just like beside themselves with joy, and he was, like, really grateful that they let him

Imagine an intense couples therapy session. But with stories about marker sese and tom cruise thrown in it also gives a good glimpse at how gene and roger were getting along their relationship. Status wasn't quite thumbs up or thumbs down. It was more sideways in the playboy interview. They go out of their way to complement each other. But it's also clear that the years of squabbling between the two had done some damage and the things had taken a turn for the worse at one point. Jean says i felt strange from roger the last month to we've been drifting apart but as the nineties went on gene and roger sometimes awkward union would become less contentious. "She's the best middle tim robbins. Tim rasi effective movies. Steven spielberg seen a super boring. It's the tim robinson. Yeah the one where you know. They're saving budget where they spend an hour in a basement with nothing. You didn't really. It didn't really go anywhere though right in it was built sort of then we're done no remember what killed them was bird. No parasites flu strike. Derrick okay tough tough. Sounds like enter- entertaining movie. That just sort of coasted to a stop at the end. I'm going to say critics did not love this one but is it fresh. Let's say they gave it a begrudging sixty three where the this is. The separation point eighty three. I've never seen it. Don't care about it. i know spielberg's involved. But i still say fifty one. I think it's pretty good. I went sixty nine. I'm worried it's pretty low. Actually war of the worlds is fresh. Seventy four seventy four. I said sixty three at sixty nine to get something. You get some points for being sixty nine enough. You will get something but you have to stay busy. You really have to keep your nose to the grants. I realize i put sixty nine on my list of things. I may never do again. You know like. I go into these thoughts about like. Are you ever gonna play like a real pickup football game. Like ever guy like a real out in earnest kind of football. Maybe probably never sixty nine the same day. That actually begin only way you can do it. That's right that's right. i'm in traction. All right it's close. But i'm feeling good here. We go our final movie. Our final final movie. I'm sorry i'm sorry. This next movie includes the music of journey bon jovi deaf leopard and other artists as they underscore a tale of big dreams in hollywood tom cruise as a part in it. Two thousand twelve rock of ages. Did you see this movie. I saw i saw his scenes. But i couldn't do it. I couldn't do it in this right. The a lot of people in this dancing with the stars. This isn't a tom cruise movie. What is percents. I'm all right jack. Essentially a featured cameo four or five. Okay so what are we talking about here. I mean are we talking about. We're talking about teens. Are we talking about in that. We know it's not fresh but by the poster is it forty. Seven or seventeen table is on the table for this movie. I feel like. I'm a little bit in the lead little bit marijuana going to try to protect it a little bit going to prevent defense again. It was a it was a was a broadway play appear on like it and then the music people like the song with a forty one. I hated this movie. Tom cruise to be fair was fantastic. You really was the lone bright spot and for that thirty eight. I just am feeling very negative today. I'm saying twenty-five in between you guys. And i remember watching scenes from an thought. It was the worst piece of shit ever so twenty eight percent. Well someone's right on. The nose again wasn't because i said twentieth and his name is still adam. Forty one for forty one percent back to single so good i. It's like i'm good at everything and this is just one other thing. You know what i mean like. I'm good at the same thing you know. Is that a monkey and cruise director. I'm also mad that you chose this as one of the tom cruise movie now. But in a weird way it's sort of diabolical. The push one in there. Why not cocktail or something. We've done this game anytime. You have crews films that this is the c. You've done it many times with the greatest. Modern living actor not the greatest. That's that's a movie star. All right last one last one as robert redford out. See this movie and inspired by their idealistic. Professor doctor has to do something meaningful with their lives..

"What's going on over there. Wait a minute. It's almost being abducted next thing you know. They got a target on their back but good and detective guy has to protect hot chippy. Going low that the plot of witness essentially exactly hot chick would notice everything back they now they noticed nothing by cobra is what made me when i heard you go on the show and talked about corolla are about co branding. The in our doubt that was it for me. I kid you not. I knew. I knew my buddy i was like i gotta meet him. Corolla just talked about one of my favorite movies of all time for our doing at the end of november. Want to go on a cruise with us where we are going to break down the movie. Not kidding will be broken down on the now we are going on a cruise and cobra will be broken. The greatest of all times great. It's a great move on like a thousand different levels. It's going to be a seven hour movie. It will alert eighty s theme of music videos in the middle of movies rates. Montage montage literally nothing to do with anything other than in other movies so it gets a pass all right. Listen with my minus five points in my off five there. I'm at. I'm at zero right now. Here we go all right up next. Tom cruise plays ray ferrier during an alien invasion. He's got to protect kids to rebuild a relationship with his children while aliens are trying to kill him in two thousand five's war of the worlds shockingly relentless movie. Yeah this one is where he worry. Yankees adam red sox fan. Yeah the yankees habits movie. I didn't like the fact that he had a sixty five mustang rent a racer hertz car and he was rebuilding an engine for it and it was rebuilding throw two out of two hundred nine and now that bumped you as well as one of my biggest probably would have been rebuilding it to eighty nine would have been period correct but the two eighty nine and also speaking of cars the electrostatic shock that the aliens gave a screwed up the sole annoyed on the star of all the cars so like no cars could be started here. The one minivan that. Tom cruise decided commentator. He told the guy to fix it. He said that's the problem with it and that one car got fixed. Here's the deal. Every car was rendered null and void but any car that was a stick shift. Could be bump started. You need the starter so now. This movie's twelve years old now or whatever it is back then twenty percent of the cars on the road were still stick shifts or whatever but if you had a stick shift you push pop the clutch. Start the car minus the starter. So it shouldn't have been every car should have been the lion. Share of charleston is also when crews. This is the famous time when he lost his mind. This is right around when he did the cow jumping up and when he did the matt lauer interview and there was a rumor that there's tons of tents as far as i could see onset to to get people to do. Yeah because he switched this publicist which when he went to the tents were wear on trying to get the extras and the crew and everyone to come read email scientology's and not know this supposedly now. Big Retail Is Watching You

"So rebecca. How does this technology work in. What's it used for so the basic premise of a lot of retail companies using facial recognition in stores they say is to track shoplifters so essentially what happens is they have their security cameras. It's picking up information about people's faces and essentially these companies are coming up with watch lists for people they don't think should be allowed in the store. And when people enter the i like runs their face against the database and flags it to the store beyond the sort of application of tracking shoplifters. There's also concern that. This technology is being used or abused in the future to sell them ads or track their shopping habits collecting data about them and making predictions. There's a whole other element that they're concerned about two. Which is that. This technology is sort of implicitly tracking all the employees who work in these stores as well. So there's a real question of data privacy and what you're accepting when you just walk into a store so it's a little bit like that technology in the movie minority report where tom cruise walks into the gap and they try to sell them a certain pair of khakis komodo welcome back to the how those assorted tank tops for you right which stores have been using this technology so one of the stores that has openly said they're using facial recognition technology is macy's which recently confirmed they use it and like i said earlier they say it's a security method to deal with that and shoplifting in stores but there are other companies that have been accused of using facial recognition or collecting biometric data in lawsuits. Sometimes these big retailers deny it. And that's part of why activists think it's really important that we need transparencies and law requiring companies to disclose when they're collecting this type of data us and even a reason to ban facial recognition stores entirely

"I recently watched bishop possible. Three and tom cruise. Who plays ethan. Hunt is part of the impossible mission force in this when he's actually getting married and as as a result is cover for working for the impossible mission force is that he works for the bureau of transportation. So he's had a party at. He makes this combat where he goes yeah. Traffic patterns is so crazy. Moves like an organism. It's very interesting and everyone looks at him. Like this guy's got a boring. So what i'm thinking about our listeners. Thinking about them and thinking about data could be something. That's like extremely boring to them. But give me a piece of data. That's excites you. The most and something that you think a listener just a casual person would find. Interesting comes to talking about transportation data well first of all that moves sounds awesome and my company is immediately going to have a movie night about it all. He's not boring. He sounds like the most interesting person at the. I love that one of the things that i hope is coming with cemetery. Buddha judge and president biden is demands that we calculate our transportation greenhouse gases which. We don't really do we kinda swag it. One of the concerns with that is that then it would be bad for rural places because rural places especially with highways are places where you have a lot of miles driven that has nothing to do with that rural place right people. Cutting through men dot minnesota. Dot used our data to do version of greenhouse gas emissions that attribute the miles driven to the destination of the car in the truck and what that does is properly demands payment so to speak from the cities from the fact that they calls all this driving to inform them and doesn't put disproportionate cost in carbon on the rural areas. That sort of data driven approach could reduce some of the future pushback. We're gonna see about accounting from transportation.

Rejection - How To Cope?

"Especially being a lebron and bang the waco defense scissors i would say i think we have a unique perspective or an unique ability to see all the points of us lebron's so from that angle. I've come up with this little theory that rejection can be reframed as seeing someone self exiting from your life. Wow i think this is overcomplicating things. This over complicating matters. Welcome to my brain. I understand that your theory is helping you cope with the situation and we like to find justifications to endure the pain or the rejection itself. I would like to give you just rights trade at your head. Something very important and i wish for you. Keep it for the rest of your life and beyond spread it. Just no it with every single cell in your system. So when someone's rejecting you lemme ask that. Why would you want to have anything to do with the person who apparently does not want to have anything to do with you. Why that's a great christian dicey but it doesn't really. I laugh the emotional attachment that you would have to that person in circumstances so what you're talking about jiming is asking a logical question to an emotional state which in turn helps you to change. Emotional state thoughts lead to feelings feelings. Need to behavior so When you change your thinking you will change how you feel about it and therefore you will be able to behave in a different way. Even the person who rejected you. But i am catching you in here. Because here's the thing when you tried to cope with the situation by justifying other people's behavior. It's a trap. it's not your purpose. it's not your job. It is not your life purpose to justify anyone else's feelings emotions actions spirituality. And i could go on the list. A-to-z it's not your purpose. That's one way of looking at it. That i'm justifying it but it's not about buying it for me about understanding why is happening because for me and i am quite logic based if i can understand something than i can do with much much. Easier and understanding human behavior is one of the great learning curves. I'm on right now. i appreciate that. It's it's a never ending learning curve. The problem i see with this what you're trying to achieve. I understand you correctly that you're trying to understand. Why now in order to understand their why whoever they are you would have to think like them feel like them have had the same experiences as they had an have had to give the same meaning that they gave to specific sections that they went through. So it's impossible. So why would you try to participate in mission impossible. Unless you're tom cruise. Then you can do that though. Hang on now. You're saying that empathy can't be achieved. We did not hear you say maybe you saw. I have not heard hang on. I can't let me expand because for me. Empathy is understanding why they do that. What led them to that understanding what it feels like for them to me that sympathy and that's the same thing as when i'm saying i won't understand from their point of view. Why they join that. It makes it easier for me. That's the same thing is empathy to you. Well i'm glad you clarified undefined. The word empathy for you in this particular context or in this context very important. I feel and i feel strongly that empathy not necessarily includes that i understand. Why another person's doing what they do widely do what they do. I do believe that empathy is something that i'm respecting the choices their decisions and i'm accepting them because they empathy when we are going on the emotional level. Let say i hit my foot here. Because i kicked the neighbor stock. I never would do that by. It's just an example. But let's say. I kick the neighbor stock because again it came over here and whatever chewed on my cushions on the lounger and now i hurt my foot and you may say to me. Oh i'm so sorry all. This must be really hurting. Do you really believe that you can feel exactly the way i feel about me hurting my foot including the emotional charge to it to really believe. That's possible i think it is if you've been in a similar situation implies don't believe exactly nari but i do believe that you can get to an understanding of what it's like them based on similar things happening to you. I believe you can only relate to how another person feels but you can never feel exactly how another person feels. Well not exactly. And why. I'm saying that is because even identical twins in the same situation growing up in the same household do not perceive the same situation at the same time executive same. Neither emotionally not rationally. I case let's say that given. But the actual point i think is that you mentioned it being a justification of their behavior and i don't believe that's where i'm going it's not a justification is an understanding that intern helps me understand. So that's the angle. I was coming from when i was speaking about trying to understand the reason for the rejection and why framed it to myself is self exiting was a way for me to not be so hurt and not take it personally but say from their point of view this is not right for them and their life and so they need to exit themselves. That makes it a lot less hurtful for me now. Maybe that is over complicating it. Sure i'll love you. That and i do like the fact that you've pointed out that asking you so flood questions while you're an emotional state can help change your state. So that's really clever. And i think something that is easily put into action in anybody's life. So maybe that's a great direction to go down here when we're talking about how to help how lisa's when they of feeling rejected which. I'm all about behavior. I do believe behaviors all that matters.

Deepfake technology: Can you spot what's real?

"I'm andy taylor. And i'm justin. Lemme and it is the three of us today. There is a lot of tech to talk about. I think the big thing that a lot of people have been talking about this week number one for themselves and number one by just pure astonishment is the technology of deepfake technology. We talked about this a couple months ago. Well you know we. We talked about some deepfakes and all that stuff. But this is how it's it's rear its ugly head again and it's back with a vengeance ugly it looks. It looks so good. it's ugly for society because it does look so good and it's so confusing. I think you're talking about the tom. Cruise ones right yeah. You're the one who told me about it. Because i hadn't seen it yet and it appeared on tiktok amazing because tiktok it. They have a policy no deepfakes. They don't want deepfakes on on tiktok and this was posted on tiktok and eleven million views by people. Saying wait a minute. Tom cruise is doing a magic trick. Tom cruise's played golf. And he's put it he's on tiktok and people were watching and the thing is. You really can't tell that. It's not tom cruise. And that's that's what makes it rough those of you don't know what a deepfake is a deepfake. Is you get an act. I have an actor but a person anybody it could be anybody to be the The video portion of it. And then you'll be walking around a room or doing something. But then you're going to upload know of everybody can do this because it does require some sophisticated technology but you upload like a celebrities face in different poses which gets a bunch of different pictures of that celebrity and then you for lack of better term you superimposed that celebrities face on the quote unquote actors body and it becomes that person. This technology can basically turn anybody into somebody else now. We we've seen some deepfakes in the past that have featured celebrities but always like kind of a little switch. And i've liked those. I've been entertained by those where you have stallone as the terminator or bill hater which is one of the best ones out there. I think bill hader while. He's he's on. One of the talk shows transforms into tom cruise and transforms into seth rogan. While he's i love that one. That one's a lot of fun and they're fun but this deepfake was different because it wasn't like this is another celebrity trying to be another celebrity. This is like oh this. Is tom cruise. Which makes everybody think. Oh that's tom cruise. It brings up the idea then. Okay could a politician then be created to see something outrageous or yeah. That's what i was about to say is like people say how could be a threat to society. just imagine. Just imagine that somebody does somehow does a deepfake of president biden announcing war on china. china's somehow sees this and says well no no no no no where declaring war in america and launches their nukes. Not possible but oh it is possible now that technology fake the technology yet totally and it can also in the case of crime. We've got footage of this crime going down this person did. That's not me. That's a deepfake. There's in could be used as the defense could be used as maybe putting somebody up. That is innocent of a crime. I mean it's you say that there is a technology that you found out that is now being developed to combat the deepfakes like basically be able to tell if it was altered a company. And i'm the name kind of escaped me. I signed up to kind of follow them and see what they're doing but they're apparently able to use technology to determine similar like what people have done now with photoshop. Be has been able to set now that you can tell that's photoshop. You can see that but now this company is going to work with the some of these deepfake videos and see they can determine but again. The technology is getting so good but people have said. Well we don't have the expertise to do it ourselves. But we're beginning to see that changing as

There's only been a couple movies. Was tom cruise yet. He was nominated for best actor. No he didn't win it but he went once. The movie was also. What did he went for interview with a manpower or something. Maybe maybe number but the movie was nominated for best picture was a big delay. Ninety six very good. David oh he was number three. "I know what he's it blows your mind when he shows up the first time you see it. You don't know him. You have no clue that he's even going to be in the movie and then when he busts on the screen immediately. You're laughing the whole time and he. He's plays a big part at the end of the movie. Like when it's he's great. I thought about putting on my list heart quit. Because he's not the type that makes fun of himself or does the corner trying. So that's why might yeah. I remember when you're talking about quality of movie. I mean. I didn't include it because he's not a main character but quality movie on that is really high. That would be it really. If i'm looking at the quality of movies that tom cruise says benon period. That's you got in the right place. I just didn't consider it because he's got a small role. And that's but robert downey junior in that movie and jack black with a small hole role. Now you're the line air. I just gotta keep throwing out there. I didn't say small. No but you said detailed bagel glory glory. He was started about the denzel movie. They you can buy it at the store right by i. I i you gloria on your list on my top ten war movies i did have it on there. It's so good. Love number four. Jerry jerry maguire. You can't not like this movie if you don't if neither of it. Yeah are you serious. Did not make the top. Oh my gosh. I loved this movie. Not show me the money. Show me the money. The gooding junior won an oscar for this movie. Tom cruise was more of a supporting actor in the movie but no he was not even main character. The movie by far is jersey on was about him. He's owning flirting. Because i feel like cuba gooding junior was like the main characters are ever more learn is barely in the movie. That's not true. He's in the movie a lot not even close to as much as time okay. He's not as much as tom cruise but he liked chewed up. Scenery like crazy. He did and he was dead. You're right but it is. Definitely he is not the main character. Jerry you're right to make character in that movie and i love it and it's a good movie. It's a romantic comedy. And i enjoyed it. Yeah i mean a little kid. That looks like me. Just because he has glasses doesn't mean looks like you looks like grady when he was a little baby and it also says jerry and the tight. What's the name of the chick that he's dating the beginning movie that he's on the chair in the kitchen the sex of course he'd point out out because there was a kid when i saw the movie is ninety six and that was a very shocking to me Kelly preston kelly preston. That's that's wasn't that john travolta's wife. I think it still is right or did they get divorced. She died cancer. She did. I think so i did. I not know that. I didn't july this year. This year. twenty twenty. I didn't know that holy smokes that blows me away. Dropped a bomb on me here all right. Well let's move on from that into my number so you is wrong. Didn't like jerry maguire. She was also a scientologist. So was so. Is john travolta. Travolta was the original. Tom cruise but yes had too many scandals so they had dumped them for nixon. My number theory is a masterpiece of a movie cameron. Crowe one of my favorite directors in the world.

Need your tiny little grabbing hands. Climb up in that attic. So there's a guy at work that always calls me. Burger king hands because of the commercial. They have the big mac and everybody was like. I got these small hands. I can't hold the big bank. And they always said. I look like that guy because i've got these tiny little. Do you have tiny all very small very small hands. You've never noticed this. I never around me for so long. And you've never noticed my midget. Yeah you do it at the hands on. Yes they're so small really do yeah so small hands. No or love this. Oh yeah big time. And it was in. I think in england. Do you got something. That's making that like chatter. I don't he was out of the set of mission. Impossible or something in england and some of the guys that were like editing. Like the dailies didn't have their masks on and he had a problem with that. He flipped out. I mean he was cussing. He was screaming at them and he was going on and on about how basically everything in the world revolves around what they're doing right now and they're able to make movies because of the precautions they take and the whole world depends on them for entertainment and these troubling times. Right just okay. Way up there on his horse yeah. He threatened to fire everybody. He sees them without it again. They are effing god. That's what he said doesn't look as bad as the christian bale tirade. I've seen the christian bale one but.

"Only we will the story of Tom Cruise movie of the society where the there are these people who are basically tortured these these three brothers and sisters who you have the ability to combine to kind of see the first see the future and see what people are going to do and so they're able to read their thoughts and be able to determine who's going to commit a crime and then they go and arrest that person before they've done anything and they put them into the state of of Stacy S. which I can only assume is its own level of holy hell and then Tom Cruise won the cops and then all of a sudden he's on the list and you have to go prove his innocence the the whole thing it is actually a very good movie when it's a movie because it's a cautionary tale it's not supposed to be a how to manual you know it's it's like nineteen eighty four nineteen eighty four supposed to be a cautionary tale not a how to manual so the FBI is doing this that they're looking to be able to analyze your threats in case you make a threat your time in a thread that I actually make or threat that you think that I made or a threat to you're going to tell me that I don't even know was a threat no joke about the people who claim to be woke see they know things that you don't know they understand things that you don't understand they see things you don't see feel things that you don't feel right so they know how to be aware and alive and they know what racism is they know a bigotry is you ever hear this from Alexandria costs of Cortez I don't know if I ever played this audio she was on the podcast pod save America it's it's run by a couple of guys are part of the Obama a team speech writers it's a very very popular and I think do I have the from the question I have from her let me look here trump becomes president and there's this debate about you know our trump voters racists and clearly see the rallies you see some of the stuff online and there's racism there and then I wonder like I don't necessarily want to vilify people who vote for trump at the same time you also need to call racism out and I don't know how even be on trump I don't know how we ever sort of pieces back together or we were the spaces for these conversations that it's not Twitter now it's certainly not so the idea is that that he sets up for revision of a classic Cortez here is the idea of trump supporters as racist can you blanket say they're all racist yes and now compact connected to this precogs story out of reason of the FBI wants to come through the social media and make a determination if you made a threat based on what they're trying to pre decide listen to represent of a costume Cortez and how she utilizes her so called logic here well first of all I think when the biggest mistake that we have and it's a trap that gets set by the right whether intentionally or unintentionally is just the frame of asking is blank racist that is something that we have to pull ourselves out of it's not about asking whether trump voters are racist we need to talk about racism not Hey Seth yeah so she first wants to go about telling you there's a difference we don't talk about racist we have to talk about racism by racists it's a very two dimensional boring conversation is something racist yes or no and then you do about that we need to talk about racism it's con towards its histories where it manifests how it's used because like all winning political phenomenon whether they're good or bad in your opinion they rely on coalition building so trump relied on the coalition and a core part of that coalition were racists let's stop in this scenario she is determined your guilt as you determine your guild by applying herself to another plane right so it's not about the racist it's about racism and the contours and this and that and the other the first things first of course trump won with racist which based on her definitions and her desires include you because she has put herself in the position to be able to decide who the racist is because she is the one who thinks she gets to make good decisions on the definitions and the definitions are not based on things that we might all agree on but rather on the things that are her whim like for example if she were to scroll through your social media feed and take something that you know to be innocuous but she decides has deep dark meaning my goodness look at that photo you know you made the okay symbol in that photo well that's clearly a white supremacist we understand how ugly the solace when we look for meaning in meaning in meaning and don't listen to words if I put out a tweet that says he'll Hana Mars an anti semite based on what she has said and done which is a tweet I pretty sure I put out there to the world to the Alexandria cause you Cortez is of the world then take that we come back to me and say oh you're a racist what do you mean I'm a racist I'm talking about is that there is some I don't wanna mark yes you're only doing that because she's a brown person she's a woman of color that happens all the time I am the guy who popularized the term racer I did not create the term but racer is somebody who's conspiratorial about race this goes back to the days of Barack Obama if you do if you were not a fan of your not a believer in obamacare your racist what are you talking about it's a terrible policy it's because he's black I'm not in favor of government run healthcare shore because the black guy wants it you see how that works what made reading into your tweet any different how is it any different the minority report.

"I don't know the name of the actor who's a professional who's the guy, the guy who plays the professional but he's, he's Lord on from the franchise genre. No. So that you have do you have anyone else. Like, for example, you have the second bartender and cocktail like, is there anyone else in Tom Cruise's crew? That is making a phone call to Dana white Amelia ESTES. No, he bit to dust wake. I don't ever look up. What are the odds that he would get impaled that way through the eyes on that elevator? Give me the two names where I say, you got all of Tom cruises career to choose from. And you've got to imagine two guys calling. He thinks it's real guys. And then they rip off their fence. I saw just rip off your face. It's maybe not even finished my point because you're going to say. You're you're going to say, basically, that it was, you know, what Robert Redford in whatever that billiards movie was except when he thinks it's Robert Redford he peels off his face. And at somebody from born on the fourth of July wasn't I wasn't that Paul Newman. Yeah. Ever made that mistake, you all the time, whole Newman with Robert, Redford on the Pogue Gammel, at lebatardshow do you ever mistake Robert, Redford, and Paul Newman? I love that you have it being Brian brand. The backup part enter got kinda movie took it. Is he still with us? It's character certainly as. You guys in the back row aren't quite as big a fan of the Tom Cruise catalog as my grind is right. I was trying to chime in on this and all I could come up with his Cuba Gooding junior. I love all the mission, impossible's night and days and incredible movie, Doug, you start under night and day chemistry with really has great chemistry with Cameron Diaz. It really is. On the rocks, Lieutenant Weinberg. You remember in cocktail when they went to Fridays? Reason why Mergen Demi Moore making the call couldn't be because it's a couple of guys it looks like a music. Video looks like a motley Crue music video. It's like the hottest place in New York City, and then you realize they're out of Friday's but they're just like doing crazy things and you're not supposed to do when you're serving cocktails plays fast and.
