"Not too much but definitely He still has competitive edge as for sure. He's still seen him walk through the he's around her once in a while. We've been the in Charlotte for like a week or two at a time Maybe two or three times a year. So it's cool down around. He walked airman. Seagulls is like the guy we now the daigle walk through and be like man. I had fifty three in Washington He's still super competitive. Like what you see in the documentary is this all the one liners. He's always on guy so it's cool to have around. It's like said it's just just get a few minutes with him as is always special Whether it's talk Tell stories a great storyteller as you can tell the documentary so cool any part of that intimidating dynamic of having him there and I mean like just stuff like that to say like you have a bomb dropped fifty three like just challenging. You're mad at all times. That has to be intimidated right. Like absolutely yeah. It's a lot of other guys like I've been around enough guys now. Like I played the broad twenty times in my career. You know it's it's still going to play against him but I don't think I've ever gotten over like the fact that it's Michael Jordan. Everyone knows when he's in the building and is not dislike. Oh that's that's just. Mj You know. That's just another guy. And I've never gotten over that so N. like you said he's always gotta revving guys. So but I mean we we try to get right back to Backing TRACH DOGS SO GUYS. Starting your to a little bit yeah. He's got a competitive problem. And Cody we want to take it back because this is a college basketball podcast. And as I told you before. Titus is an Indiana guy. I'm North Carolina Guy. And when you were coming down. I remember your recruitment very vividly because your brother Tyler Zeller entitled team North Carolina. I was a big fan of Zeller family. I was very excited about the cody. Zeller pipeline. That was GONNA come to North Carolina. There was obviously you know three schools that are in the mix was butler. There was Indiana and there was North Carolina. You decided to go with Tom. Crean because you called you. Of course the big handsome and we in Carolina could not compete with that But can you just about every little bit? Because I thought it was one of the it was a very interesting recruit now in a fund recruit a recruitment between the Indiana and North Carolina. Yeah it was Is there some fun memories of you know? I'd say I had two older buzz when before me and I was Kinda able to watch them kind of go through the process and figure out how they navigated it and it is it is dumped being a fifteen year. Old Kid trying to get recruited. You don't know you know you're making a big life decision or you're going to go to college and cody. I'm pretty sure that fifteen year old me was tweeting at you to go to. North Carolina apologized for that. I so yeah but it was cool to see like Lukasz who when his own route to Notre Dame career there tolerant Elida and I kind of game sophomore junior in high school for Marker on the on the big stage I narrowed down to Butler North Carolina. The Alex and Baylor had Brad Stevens Ships North Carolina. Obviously there They won the National Championship freshman year and then Indiana was kinda rebuilding but as the an hour away from home all the in state school and so I had three great options I really could have gone wrong with any of the three At the end of the day it ended up being you know was Stone Horizon League at the time. Yeah so that was. I wanted to plan in a big stage and then North Carolina was Was a little bit so on me. they had tyler they had John Henson and the days Michael mcadoo. He was kind of in my classes. Anthony Davis is the best big man. Then it was Mac doing our Kinda the third guys. They were kind of kind of said they had a they. Also the where twins had they had just transferred so coach Williams. Talk to me in that kind. Kinda opened up a scholarship for me. So before the where transfer transfer right now. The scholarship offer and Sunday. It was kind of That IT INDIANA. The team wasn't that good at the time and so A nuanced Kinda ended into a little. Bit of a rebuild. That knew that you know like it's Kinda see the development guys like Victor and made Kinda see the hard work. That inmates so I kind of took a leap of faith in state at in in state school and I was also did. It was a fun. Couple years loads. I feel like you're leaving out. One big element of this decision. Which is if you would have if you have committed anywhere. Other than Indiana there would have been hundreds of thousands during related. There's been middle aged men and candy striped pants into your house and just lost their mind. We already let Zeller's get out of BLOOMINGTON. There's no guys have you talk about like Sean. May I know you were? You were the Save Indiana Basketball. Cody like in all seriousness. This Was this some felt in recruiting like like? How much did that way into it? How much did your brothers Because as you said you an hour away from from your house and your brothers. Obviously we're both Mr basketballs and they were I assume just as coveted by Indiana as you're and they did not go to Indiana. A how much of that pressure like does that is the fact that neither one of them put more pressure on Youtube Goat. Indiana is it like will. They didn't go to Indiana so I don't necessarily have to or my just making all this up and there is even really think about it like that at all. I think you're right. I think each situation is a little bit different because lucrative by Mike Davis and Tolerance recruited by Jovan Samson. So he had all the the violations going on. It's ours being recruited and so for me. You know things were things are fine. Things were kind of on the way up and they hadn't quite turned the corner yet. But I mean I could tell from the way. They work the way that they competed accident. Were nut so I knew the team would eventually kinda turned the corner but It was it was great. It was Instagram wasn't around much but twitter was twitter. Was Big you when I was in high school. So I mean my my mom used to follow especially when I was at school juice to follow my whole day just by search my name on twitter so she would be like. Would you get a subway? And what think be like so you know. Why did you stop by best buy and so but it was all the people that had tweeted? I'm in line behind cody at subway and go reason. I'll three of as by so. Yeah who's a little little wild but I mean even in my crewman Meyer The.

"I had a conversation with coach oh jumpstart with a scout and he started telling me about what he was seeing in other programmes okay we were probably going to have a pretty genera conversation the rest of the because you knew darn while he was going last night telling exactly i i love to hear about what's going on at purdue in michigan in michigan state don't tell me right don't tell me but now if we were having a real conversation on the sense of of of strength weaknesses evaluation i invite those people into the film because i wanted them to to to see how the players learn to see how they interact it in there we were open i mean carte blanche a lot of times you know in the sense of like come see what it's really like and to me i think that's it's it's it's not unlike a lot of things you build it based on the relationship that you have a try to go open openminded with every one of them but i think it's the same thing in in any type of business it's let's have a two way street okay on how um i'm giving you something that's going to help make this person burqas at the end of the day at the end of the day oh really watts a player to not be successful when they leave you you can be mad at him you can be angry with them you can benshem but who really why would you don't get into the business don't want people to be failures hide you doubt so for the most part you're going to work with people to try to help that person continue to be better when they leave that's abu disputed what he remember above miami's the conversations you had with pat riley miami before they drafted wayne first one with pat riley was being introduced to him and getting a chance to sit and talk to him at the draft combine in chicago and and after the initial off moments rough sitting there talking to a guy that i've looked up to for so long his real gift is his ability to lock in tow he's a lot of gifts as as as leaders coach not no question his ability to talk to me like a.

"Information gathering i think there's a lot of time being spent on not sure they're always evaluating every aspect that needs to be evaluated i've had people drafted that i never heard from the gm unless i called all right and and and i think uh i try to be very progressive with that i tried to get a lot of information i tried to do that myself if coaches on our staff had relationships with certain people them certainly we would break it up but i gained a great understanding you know by doing that and i think that was really understandable but i think when somebody's it's it's like when you recruit okay or or when you're doing research okay your research in a story you got to get people off script writers a script out there everybody's got a script and it so easy i i've had i've had people i will we don't go to the head coach because we don't take you'll tell us the truth why because a couple of we will burn you 'sons absolutely arrogant lazy to me right you ought to be good enough at your job to build a know is as coach telling you truth urizzi not don't chalk at all up that every coach is good because they were great with you and don't chalking up that every coach is bad because they didn't tell you the truth do your work and i think there's too many times people come at you with a script and they aren't necessarily able or built a relationship are asked the right questions or spend the time okay to understand that there is no script here's to me i always thought that makes sense yes in here i think the challenge for college coach because listen you want to be credible with the nba guys because you're going to have a guy you want them to think you're giving an honest assessment of strengths and weaknesses your player but you certainly don't wanna be too negative but if you're just going to be poly in all the time when you have a guy like a wesley matthews or drill mcneil who doesn't get drafted but you know is an nba player sure you're not gonna have any credibility on that guy if you're always telling me the other guys were great when i said listen i got a guy here one he's not anybody's boards i think he can play.

"I said not shortterm when i recruited i didn't wanna just go recruit a guy for winning team i wanted to recruit a guy from a great program there is a huge difference huge difference because teams can catch lightning in a bottle and be good art program stand the test the time and and and and they respond to it and and now i think that's what ultimate successes and you know what let's look around pro sports okay let's look at the programs a start with the super bowl right now the patriots are the prime example of that okay they deal with turmoil they deal with adversity they deal with strife they deal with egos all they do is stay connected to win and to me there's other examples but that's the one might be the most prevalent right now when you look at it let's see what happens in the nba right let's see what happens over a period of time there some real winning programmes right now let's see if they can keep it sustained over a period of time it up those things are happening with her galvanized inside will then they will you curious to see what roll dwayne wade plays in cleveland with there are a lot of issues there there's a lot of disconnection discord that's gone on there and that's what comes with losing that's what comes with sometimes that's going on below the surface but a teams winning and we don't pay attention to it but when you're losing it it comes out dwayne was part of you think of miami and tremendous success through the years that didn't mean there weren't ups and downs that didn't mean like they didn't have stuff they dealt with but they dealt with it and dwayne was always certainly in the middle of it is the leader there he kind of curious to see how this plays out with the cavs a sheer and how when you look at that team duan's the only real pierre for lebron he's appear i'm not sure lebron looks to the rest of the team in sees anybody who's won like he has been through it like he has what is no in the nba that's been through together what they've been through going all the way to the beginning of the draft um where they got to know each other that summer but certainly with what they dealt with.

"The highway it's not about this is the only way to do it if we don't do it this way we won't succeed that's not what it is at all and up i've seen anything on the basketball side of it by going to the different practices by watching the different college practices there are a lot of different ways to do it to have success but that's not what's what's relevant to this what's relevant is do you understand that we are in this together and if we are successful okay neither argue it's not like you weaken separate the winds in the losses it's not like we can separate the successes and failures in a true team and that's what ownership really is but i don't know if there's is graded differences because the nba just like other professional sports are going to have people that will not stand up and and and fight for the people that they're with that will not respect the job it all comes down to are you a selfserving leader okay and you're going to take care of yourself and serb yourself are you a serving leader that understands not only serving leaders can have egos serving leaders can want to have great success and have ambition but they know they can't get there without other people selfserving leaders want everything to be surrounded by them want their protection if it doesn't work out for you hey so be it that's not real reality if you're gonna win over the long you can win in the short term but you can't win in the long term and i think when you look at the college part of it there are so many different factions that you have to answer to an end and in pro sports there's an owner may be in rare cases there is a board okay but in college there's the president there's the board there's the vice president's there's the ethnic directors there's got to be a modicum of respect for what each person's job is and the willingness to look at sale every once while we're going to get punched in the face here that because of what we're doing and because we know it works we're going to stick with it and that to me it doesn't matter where it's at that's the difference in success and failure when it comes to longterm again like i.

"Why when when kids look at steph curry and and you just continue to see what he does not only does it excite the kid to be able to want to develop a skills but it excites the coach all right because the way he moves the ball the quickness and speed that he plays with the change of direction that he plays with the shooting range that he has but the teammate that he is on the court and then you throw on the fact that he is an absolute champion and an and all those things that they're there is probably not a coach in the country that is not only not use the example of steph curry and the warriors but hasn't used film breakdowns of steph curry and the warriors because they play the game at such a level there's a joy in passing there's a joy and ball movement and and they just make it th they they make it easy for you to look at it not easy to play but easy to look at and say that's what happens when your best players are the best teammates and move the ball the way that they do and other adds a huge part of it and i think dry young epitome is is that and what he did on tuesday night against kansas was exactly that because to come off the week did he had were was obviously not a great week in the sense of winning because they didn't but it was not a great week for him personally because of the shots taken in the percentages and they just didn't play as well to have the maturity at ninety two comeback from the week that he had to play the way they did against one of the greatest teams in college basketball history and certainly not taken a backseat to anybody defensively this year with kansas and manage and operate inside that atmosphere in that game like that that's that's next level stop that that's above next level stuff for a nineteen year old and i think the steph curry influences got something to do with that you.

"The nba while in when when you talk dorm or when you you read about him you realize that steve nash was probably the one that first got his attention as a young player and baby with his dad but then the steph curry phenomena started because i think would step for me to everybody that watched him in college knew that this guy was really good but would it translate to the nba not only to translate he's dominated and i think what's happened is is it's given people so much hope as a player that you can you can play with quickness that you can build your range that you can pass the ball that there there's such a place for the guard that maybe doesn't look like everybody else in the sense of size or bhattarai strength but yet just the absolute killer and the way that he plays trey yang is that guy in a world where hey we had steph curry shooting drills we had we had moves that you would name after steph curry people are growing up on that now trey young as the god it's absolutely mastering it is a nice tenyearold not steph curry yet right but in the same conversation in breath and deservedly cell with the way that he plays and that's why you know you watch lebron james in he is so unique he is a he's not accessible to people you can't say all i can be lebrun wall can you be six nine and two hundred sixty pounds but move like a point guard built like karl malone but play like magic but hey but you can watch stephane go okay i can be six two six three and work on my ball handling and work on my shooting and you look at him and you go while i can be i look more like him and that's what i think's great about steph is the he kids watch him an idolize him but say i mean i kind of look like that and i think that's what's made him so unique in kids wanted to empty can emulate magic only there's only gonna be or you can emulate lebrun uh because of this the forget anyway magic either no no but side excise is a big part of it absolutely and i think that's why.
