"Tipping podcast with david jennings graham rodway and keith melrose and might be scorching hot temperatures in the mid july. But we're off jumping to market rasen and we've got to crack and jumps races to preview here. The first is tool fight. It's the best way summer handicap hard and this is competitive at the moment. Hooper is your place. One famous at compromise is also fight to one. Seventy one wicked sevens one bottom. Tino downs are fifteen to hang in there. Eight to one voice of calm and twelve to one buyer. Right rudder taken away sets up race this the we're william flat mode. And then they fry you like a mini. Great would her though is now. you've got lie hoses lihue coming in of puncher wins and could be a lively champion sada. Who knows how far he go from the industry night with your mates and you're sipping away complaints online and then when it comes goes right there a shot at tequila it is gonna be a shock to the system. Isn't it to say to see them around here in the summer handicap hurdle. But i find. It's quite interesting about this race. Few talk china's trying to eat tonight some claims. Obviously nikki ensign using french. Davis who's ridden parties loss. Free starts claims seven pound the megaza emma values in joe anderson who claims ten pounds. I'm sure he was with the he henderson for a little while but if he's claimed ten maybe emma verbs but anyway hanging there is selection for joe anderson and emma lavelle and tim southern andrew gemmell of course so i was at cheltenham when this one there couple of years ago on the sun. The of the You know the whatever they call it. Now go cup. The november one and i thought that some look quite a noise prospects. He's not all gone to plan for him since but it does appear to be getting back together. Now the white like these and ground hanging there It'd be carrying hope. Wipe it won't be once. Joe takes ten pounds off. And i think that you might begin to give an a cautious action hanging there. I was there that they wanted to supreme freia. I thought that was really good performance. But it turns out and just looking at. It'd be pacified. Echo eden who and scarred uso at possibly not the best grade to ever on the chat limbaugh hanging there is now decently handicapped off americans. Thirty five. I actually liked the other ebola voter i. I was pretty impressed by ofcom last name. Tom bellamy On a tour. I think is enough for improving. Your hearts k twenty like in the summer her while it's extremely difficult race and to be honest. Probably not going to to up as an outright theft talk to buy the holiday jockeys claiming here thought they just went to a award for matthew. Ns who's right over jumps the first time in a while on angle bohol. He's actually just want to bring them to people's attention because he's starting to get booked like he's a top on the on the flock. I don't know we all people theresa's a lot more based on the jockeys matthew ennis's getting poop and a lot of good ones now. I was what. I saw running racing of a hurdle or writing over hurdles again authorities unusual. Amato's obviously gone to sarah efforts to get writing behold and the reason for that mostly single behold shouldn't be able to when you own a stable match bail these weights crisis-torn horse install ethic but he's carrying moral on the flat base. Cutting seem we hear over hurdles Steinbeck not so competitive. I can't actually as a temp but you might win a hurdle race this summer. And he's i think he's been in good form of flat alike his defeat. Contraband so maybe heating about contraband. Leeann ear next goes we are tall. Then run greer catra next time but maybe as a horse that that sort of quicker grown tea cosies a decent flowers. He's four. pr this not to be sniffed out you know in tomsk who can keep them there to the second. Last many are gonna finish much faster than an mba. This isn't really except. I'm going to be having no more than a full on this horse if i do. It's all there's just a mentioned sometimes someone if you do have you. To the hurdles think steph will pick up a raise bath by love. Got plenty over the years. Let me tell you moving onto the two party. It's the bad way summer. Play heading american here at random about ninety. Two is captain. Tom cast the jumps like dan. Arcus sprinter soccer rolled into one. What a jumper. This horses solomon grades. Thirteen to two darling Matrix is seven to one. Ten to one frankie Tent one fire away. Who brought off that big gambler around the season lord. Brian is ten one and it is twelve to one by rogers. This captain tom cap. I could watch him jumping every day of the week. I'm not saying him. Jump jump jump instead of like a takeaway on a bottle of wine and watch young. It is glorious if this if this falls tomorrow. Jerry they're not gonna send ritual around to you'll have Yeah no he's they sent hurdler wasn't he bet. Some are must must confess. I haven't had a chance to see three chase. wins of. Obviously all come They summit but Yeah he's rapidly progressive. is i wanna. Who's a bit more of an expose type and that toppled the cots worlds for nigel. twiston-davies Some really good phones to. He's nine but what strikes me the most is come at this track and i think this is almost equal. Strop ish to attest isn't it. And i think he will suited by a decent phil chaser around this coast and he being coming back to foam slowly. Now forget last time you talked to as he ran over mall until you felons i. I think that's too far but belted every single fence on the hallway round for no apparent reason. That totally doesn't jump kept tomcat age. I can tell you. But the previous round when he finished. Fifth beyond frankie. Berlin was under jordan. Allers back combo taking off. From sam's recent davis. So i'm hoping that maybe jordan is going to find the key to him here. I'm really quick around the court and the drop back in this so soon so price. It's tough for me swamps excellent. I hope kate. You're gonna let your sense prevail here. You're just gonna tip captain now. He's don't be jumps brilliantly. Absolutely does but i was entry and another to worcester no this to be very occasionally with me and my really cool friends during the public talk about the easiest jump tests in the country and i i always i always put up with studies easiest so i would be that in my in for anybody that gets really excited about jumping by. I do admit he has a well-known daintree well and knots about step is gets through the intense offenses so we he's respected. Horse is never seen a rival in any of his starts. I think that's part of the problem you know. He's going to see rival here. This is a similar plate not small fields a small field race summaries anymore. Noise is facing entirely different. Sit circumstances which as its net pecking. I'm gonna do that when a horse nightmare to pit straight into the sort of company on just his third storrow. A fourth style of our fences even be qualified. If it was a start. you know. He's unexposed in that regard. Richard newland trains a captain tomcat. And i seen this today. I just think loader. Morgan is richard newland. Elliot car new and improved horses from other staples and not having meet his name..

Rumors quietly spread about his second wife's alleged drug habit and how he had dumped the first Mrs McCain to marry a trophy wife with money. First, Mrs McCain supported her exes presidential bid so we had he's gay. We had he cheats. But where was the race card? It was so subtle. We almost missed it just to picture spread around the boonies of Senator McCain with his adopted daughter, a beautiful, dark skinned girl who was born in Bangladesh. All of that, and the money just poured it dumped in great Pockets of television time. Radio time phone banks glassy brochures, Bush was spending money so fast. I didn't even know what what i was getting myself into. Different definitely different. You bring my own beer. Yeah and it's kinda more intimate than what you would expect to be in like a music environment especially here in town. You know because it's not quite a like social gathering we all go to talk but it's not quite like a concert right either. It's more just like a sit and listen type of thing you know Yeah definitely a listening room. Yeah definitely excuse me just cool though we were gonna go. We had tom cap. Do you know him. "Energised Brady because he looked around. At the skill position players and sort Julian Edelman, and that was about it. So he was thrilled When Belle check went out and brought in Antonio Brown. They played one to get game together. He called a handful of passes caught a touchdown pass. And then a few days later. These text messages surfaced, um, you know, relating to these Issues that Brown had with a woman. And the Patriots basically threw him off the team. And rightfully so. And I know that Brady was. I'm not going to say in any way, shape or form that it Condoned any of bring Browns behavior because how could you He was just very upset that he was no longer with him in New England, and he kind of moped the rest of the season because he knew he just didn't have No. A go to guy other than gentleman, and analysts threaten Antonio Brown when he's healthy, and when his mind is right, No has been one of the two or three best receivers. In the NFL for the last 10 years. And I don't know this ever happened, Jodie. But when Brown got New England, Tom said he's going to let him live in. I don't know if that actually happened, and I'm not sure he was even there long enough to take Tom up on his offer, but Just for whatever reason. Became I think the word you used is good. He became obsessed with Antonio Brown, and I can tell you this. I know there's some people in the organization in New England that lost some respect for Tom because Um Off how outspoken he wass. In wanting Brown on the team. And I guess behind the scenes after Brown got tossed off the team that it was evident two people there that he was just unhappy with the way the whole thing transpired and What I'm really surprised about is that Brewster areas was pretty outspoken a few months ago that Antonio Brown would not Get on that team. You would not be a good fit in the locker room and And all of a sudden, Tom Brady plane general manager was very influential in I'm sure recommending Antonio Brown wide receiver is probably one of the strength of that team, but they've had injuries. With Mike Evans and Chris Godwin over the 1st 67 weeks of the season and He's a great insurance policy. As long as he behaves himself, all right, we'll see about that him behaving himself. Part of it, which I have my doubts, but we shall see you and It's funny that you mentioned Patriots because I was going to go there. Next. I saw some quotes from Bill Belichick today that explaining the sub 500 record. He's toting up there in New England. This late in the season hasn't been since he got there. The the Patriots had become tremendously hampered by the cap that they have made your cap issues. That's why they couldn't Find players to Phil needs and the like. They were always hampered by the cap. Ah, two things come to mind number one. That's kind of weak on Belle Tex part that he's making excuses in number two. It's almost like a belt shotted Brady because they had dead cat money left over from him. Deciding tonight come back and play for the Patriots this year and my being being too critical of coach politic. No, I don't think so. And, you know, Brady Gave them such a break over the years. He never played it market value. Jimmy grab was making. It was a year more than Brady at the end of this time in New England, and he got Cam Newton No for pennies on the dollar. I'm not sure with Tom's cap number is the dead cat money number is In New England, But I mean, I don't have any sympathy. Abdallah check when it comes to that the Patriots have never paid Big, big money. Anybody and you can't say they paid it to Brady, but it was still way under market value. Um, and listen after 20 after the last 20 years. There's nobody that's going to show any sympathy whatsoever. To Belichick, finding out how the other 90% lives. And if he's gotta take a step back and rebuild through the draft And with quality free agent signings in the next couple of years, then, Um, then that's what everybody else has to do. And he was there. The stance is long. With a changing cast of characters simply because he had the best quarterback of all time. And for the most part, you can throw anybody on the field and Tom would make him better. And it just ran its course. And towards the end of last season, the Patriot choice slumped. They could have clinched a first round bye and walked home to the Dolphins in the final game of the season. And they get stuck in the wild card round they lost at home to the Titans. And they were done. And that was the end of Tom Brady there, and now Belle check has gotta rebuild and we'll see what you can do with that operatic Gary Meyers are guests here on CBS portrayed D'oh. I'd stay in any a F. C. The Browns currently sit at five and two. Now that's only good for third place in the A F. C North, because that's a damn good division. At least the top three teams are on the Ravens and Steelers wanted to gonna have to take a loss since they play each other. Ah, tomorrow. Are the Browns for Riel is Kevin's too fancy something that none of the previous head coach shot that they took in Cleveland over the last 15 20 years is too fancy. Just better than not, O R R the Brown still lay to be determined. Five and two. You know that's a great question. I know he was a fancy is very well respected. As they.

The deep Patriots have become tremendously hampered by the cap that they have made your cap issues. That's why they couldn't Fine players to Phil needs and the light. They were always hampered by the cap. Ah, two things come to mind number one. That's kind of weak on Belle checks, part that he's making excuses in number two. It's almost like a belt shotted Brady because they had dead cap money left over from him deciding tonight Come back and play for the Patriots this year. And my being being too critical of coach balletic. No, I don't think so. And, you know, Brady Gave them such a break over the years he never played at market value. Jimmy grew up was making it was a year more than Brady at the end of this time in New England, and he got Cam Newton No for pennies on the dollar. I'm not sure with Tom's cap number is the dead cat money number is In New England, but I mean, I don't have any sympathy for Belichick. When it comes to that the Patriots have never paid Big, big money. To anybody and you could say they paid it Brady but still way under market value. Um, and listen after 20 after the last 20 years. There's nobody that's gonna show any sympathy whatsoever. Teo Belichick, finding out how the other 90% live. And if he's got toe take a step back and we built through the draft and with quality free agent signings in the next couple of years, then, um Then that's what everybody else has to do. And he was there the stances long with a changing cast of characters simply because you had the best quarterback of all time. Aim for the most part, he could throw anybody on the field, and Tom would make him better. And it just ran its course. And towards the end of last season, the Patriots choice slumped. They could have crunched a first round bye and they lost it home to the Dolphins in the final game of the season. And they get stuck in the wild card round. They lost at home to the Titans, and they were done. And that was the end of Tom Brady there, and now Belle check has gotta rebuild and we'll see what you can do with that. Xenophobe Radic Gary Meyers are guests here on CBS portrayed D'oh. I stay in any FC. The Browns currently sit at five and two. Now that's only good for third place in the KFC North because that's a damn good division. At least the top three teams are on the Ravens and Steelers wanted to gonna have to take a loss since they play each other. Ah, tomorrow. Are the Browns for Riel is Kevin Stefanski, something that none of the previous head coach shot that they took in Cleveland over the last 15 20 years. It's too fancy. Just better than that. O R R the Brown still lay to be determined. Five and two. That's a great question. I know he was defense is very well respected. As they.

"You're listening TV Our own de Radio Dot net five veterans for veteran comple- mate Fiu that's right it is simply made for you it's Wer DD radio dot net were live here on Birdsong on Boehner would we have Mike Gordon on he is the author of on gap theory the history of F. fourteens a combat history of that fourteen but before we get into that Mike because you tell all of our listeners who you are make just in case there are new to who you are and I don't know why they would be listening absolutely no brothers and sisters in arms out there little bit about what I'm writing in Sharon with the fellow veterans community it's awesome now you just released this book this week or last week Komo okay two and a half weeks my days run together so I can't tell you know up from down anymore that being said this is all about the combat history of effort gene correct not you know like it's inception or anything but the actual combat history correct whether the got a little bit of a little bit of the inception in the first chapter but good ninety five percent of the book is This role in combat okay now what exactly are the hot topics that you go into I know we have a few things that we want to discuss but once the major hip points as far as what you know is going to draw people into your book and set George Aside from someone else that's written about the F. Fourteen obviously big selling point is really that it's a it's a full comprehensive combat history of the F. Fourteen that's been put into one volume and what I noticed over the years as I've been reading you know they're his books on aviation at fourteen fifteen et Cetera is that you have multiple Liam's out there that are dedicated to only a certain portion of what the plane actually did you know you'll have you'll have a few books out there that say okay here's what AH fourteen didn't Desert Storm here's what it did up to this particular point in history and then here's what the F. Fourteen did in Iraqi Freedom during freedom but I noticed that there wasn't really a book that told the full combat history in one volume to include a service in the air force Iran and you know various missions in the hot spots around the world but I think that's going to be the real big drawing point there and more than that is that it relies very heavily on the firsthand accounts of pilots who actually flew the plane and it lets them tell the story and in in a way lets the reader live vicariously I think the the pilot sales themselves now you mentioned on the back here that it it was in movies like dot gun executive decision and stuff like that and of course we're talking about the combat missions now to go in depth a little bit about these combat missions you mentioned Iran and Iraq what is it exactly that you had in this book that other authors haven't touched on well thank you as far as the Tomcats in Iran are concerned You know I think one of the big selling points of my work is be that I'm doing a portion of the Tomcats history that not a lot of people know about and not a lot of authors have previously fetched on You know when we think of Iran the images that come to mind are of course the Eitel Khomeini You know we think about the Iranian revolution and we think about the Nazi friendly relations that we've had with that country for upwards of forty years now but it wasn't always like that you know once upon a time Iran was closest ally that we had in the Middle East and the Shah of Iran was our closest friend so the shaw the course being next door abor to Iraq he didn't have any love for Saddam either but seeing that Saddam Hussein was very close to the Soviet Union and getting all these brand new Nick and Sukhoi's he said the Shaw said to himself or you know what I really need something comparable or greater value because I want Iran to the a major power player in fares the Middle East who goes knocking on Richard Nixon's door and says I have billions of dollars I'm willing to spend on hot notch American Equipment ask for me and Nixon against the advice of Henry Kissinger says well you know Shaam glad you came to see me because I have the brand new F fourteen the cat in F Fifteen Eagle that I can sell to you for top dollar which one do you want and after extensive trials Iranian Air Force selected yet fourteen ultimately delivered seventy nine of them and the Best Tomcat pilots in Iranian Air Force were trained under the Shaw story gets a little bit ironic after that brother because in the wake of the Iranian Iranian revolution of the Best Tomcat pilots they either a fled Iran or they were rounded up and imprisoned by the new regime yet when the Iran Iraq war came out how you surprising how quickly the revolutionary government emptied their prisons and said okay we need all you Tom Cap pilots to take flight to the skies over Iran and shoot down all these Iraqi mix and you know it's it it's true what they say we're make strange bedfellows Ios and a lot of those Iranian pilots were quote unquote forgiven for their loyalties to the shop because shutdown so many arachnids no the the cat had the most illustrious combat record in service with the Iranian air force many of those pilots were trained by Americans that I think that's funny End Ironic at the same time it is it really is and like you said where it does make strange bedfellows it's it's funny how war plays out you know enemies in friends at the end of the day one of our listeners and a great friends affiliates with DD Radio P. T. S. dog walking what I he was actually in the navy and he served on the USS John F. Kennedy and he said during the final combat deployment with f f Zien during operation deny flight did you have that in in your book at all or learn anything about that absolutely chapter after seven I believe talks about everything that the F. Fourteen did between Desert Storm and start at nine eleven as I got great story is that for some veterans who podcast over Bosnia and when they were doing operation northern watching Southern Watch in enforcing those four singles no fly zones and also protecting the protecting the ethnic Kurds from Saddam's from Saddam's aggression and the thing that I got out of a lot of those stories was that you really see how versatile Tomcat is not only as a air superiority the fighter but a a reconnaissance ground attack aircraft and these guys they have incredible stories to share specifically mentioned tonight light will deny flight and deny flight and the various missions and incarnations over Bosnia host of had some of the most powerful stories that I've ever seen I was I was willing to ask you for your research for this book you obviously interviewed actual heads of the F. Fourteen Tomcat how did those interviews go I know any combat story is not you know the best thing to bring about with anybody but was it somewhat of a relief for some of them to get this out there was it harder than they expected to talk to you about how did the interview go well I think Jaren of stories for a lot of folks I think it's therapeutic more than anything I think it's it's I think I think no matter who you are I it helps it helps solidifies some sense of closure and also helps in also helps I think your psyche know that you're putting something down for the sake of austerity that the bat future future veterans that history out there for people to say okay this is what happened they were there they know their shit instead of turning to top gun and cruise but one thing that I really love like I said is the illustration on the Front you WanNa tell us a little bit about that ah yes as a matter of fact I was I was at a bit of a crossroads win I was thinking of how I was going to I was GonNa do the front cover because there are a lot of good lot of good photos tomcat out there but it it's it's hard to find one that would really that would really make in my opinion that would really make an epic cover photo I went searching all around the Internet found some many great photos of Tom Cannons life but I'm like well I want something that is really going to grab the reader and there was a there's a Gatien photography studio that has a website of bodies great in-flight shots of various military jets around world everything from everything from F. Fifteens to Sukhoi's and I was looking through their library of fourteen photos and I was I was seen a lot of good things in there but nothing that really struck my attention until I found that photo that appears on the cover Brennan said this one that it was just the picture of the Tomcat as it appears there against the plain blue sky it was it was from squadron vs to thirteen grim prison one of their last appointments of that plane and You know I I worked out a licensing agreement due to to buy the rights to use that photo or the cover but I said okay well and now that I got a good image against that plane Blue Sky I want to try and Do something with it's really going to grab the reader's attention so my cover artist whom of with before I said I'm GonNa give this to you I think it's a really good stock photo that we can use I'm not picky on how exactly we create a backdrop and cover said up for this mildly guidance and I know that this is vague it's an abstract concept but just make it look epic and she said okay got can do that and like not even two days later she delivered me the proof and I was just like you know my reaction was like yourselves like Oh man I got a frame this this this looks like a movie poster I was I was beyond impressed with the work she did it it really does I mean abroad at top gun it that's what it I put you in the motto but puts you in the mind of a movie poster that you'd see for top gun or any other and flight movie that's out there about aircraft has in any she didn't go overboard With you know the actual jet engines or anything that that's you know shown there in the picture it's enough to make it and it draws your attention and I can't praise it enough and it's just beautiful but getting back on track go back in history a little bit before nine eleven and Iraq Iran you talk about the combat missions That occurred in the Eighties do you want to tell our listeners about that I know chapter two is Gulf of Sitra Incident Nineteen eighty-one right on select sir yeah let's wine the clocks back to Nineteen eighty-one yet Libya had not been our friend for several years at that point you know you had that gentlemen and use the term lightly when I talk about Omar Al Gaddafi who insisted that the Gulf of Sidga was Libyan territorial waters and he said what I'm GonNa do is I'm going to draw a line down the middle of the Gulf of Adr and I'm going to call it my line of death and by God any American ship or any American plane that crosses my line of death is going to be fair game for anything in the Libyan military now Qaddafi didn't seem to appreciate it didn't seem to register him I'm was that the international law being it was is that you cannot claim more than twelve miles out from your coastline as territorial waters anything beyond that is the High Seas and international community recognizes it as such every international maritime legal body or whatever is all on the same page by saying hey twelve miles is limit you can't go and claim two hundred fifty miles of Gulf and claim that it's yours though we routinely ignored it as did everybody else because Gadhafi was spoiling for a fight you know here comes here number of nineteen eighty-one and intersections with Libyan pilots had been common throughout throughout those naval exercises you'd have yet fourteen thousand flight and maybe they'd get shadowed by Libyan MiG twenty one or living twenty three and they typically ended with no tation it was just a simple interception they're fourteen would escort the Libyan jet back to the edge of the the American training maneuver space and that was it but on the morning of August nineteenth nineteen eighty-one you had a pair of F. fourteens that intercepted two Libyan issue twenty twos and for one reason or another they were itching for a fight the two Sukhoi S. U. Twenty twos fired on the F. fourteens and the F. Fourteen says okay game on we're GONNA fire back and in an engagement that lasted less than fifty seconds both those F. Fourteen said blown those Sukhoi's out of the sky and when you look back on it it was really overmatched man boasts Sukhoi's picked the wrong fight on the wrong day because the S. U. Twenty two even at maximum argument was garbage I mean it was it's like one of the worst made Soviet exports ever and you know this made headline news back in America and You were the point it was it was seen as a much-needed victory because nineteen eighty-one we're only a few years out or Viet Nam people still have the memories of Vietnam in their minds but how these two F..
