From Brady To Newton: Julian Edelman Details Patriots’ Change At Quarterback in Boston

"Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman spoke with the media today and off the bat. He was asked about the departure of long time teammate Tom Brady. Obviously way played ball together. I love in a death, but you know, the train keeps moving. Also what? It stood out to him about new quarterback Cam Newton got a great energy about himself. I was really impressed with his work ethic. And his mindset, you know, just like I've been impressed with with systems and lawyers, no throne with those guys as well. Everyone's competing at all positions in a competition makes us all

"Not even questioned. If the papers have a chance of playoffs. You're not going to put in the hands of church did amore Brian Hoyer, just though the way it is or both. Quarterbacks, But we know that solid but not the guys get promises, especially the way there she is. Right now. Cam Newton formerly piece, you know. Ah, guy that's been to a Super Bowl. Maybe he has ability. Maybe he has the talent it takes to get past the Baltimore's and the and the Kansas City. So there's no doubt in my mind that he has to have the inside track. Now they're saying all the right things. At the pictures practice that open battle, But the fact is the painter's going for going to be on the arm off, Can you He had Marcus can opt out and everyone you know, I understand why he did that. And I have a problem with any player opted out. You got Sony? Michelle? He's banged up right now, when you see the rest of this offense besides the quarterback What do you think about this offense right now? Well, I think quite also. I know it's tough to loser. Ah, guy like Marcus Cannon and another expecting more from Michelle this year, too, But I think the biggest lost that this offense has. Besides Obviously the Tom Brady on the greatest ever the biggest loss they've had to deal with. Besides that, there's going to be dauntless vernacular offensive line coach. One of the great assistant coaches in the NFL for many years Now he's a big part of brave and the paper of success, So I think that's part of it. I'm not sure that they have Weapon's value to kill Harry, you have to step up on DH put himself forward as worthy of that first round pick. Just the news will probably step up more than last year, so it'll be interesting, But right now they are up against it offensively and they have to find a way and I think they can still do some things, but they have to find a way to score points. Let's get to the third down. Alright, Steve DeOssie. When we do this, we know the defense was very good last year, they still have a very strong secondary thought The Adrian Phillips moves was very underrated. This year. It's the fund. Gilmore is still back, but you lose the leader. And Dante Hightower's opted out because of covert 19 Patrick Chung. You lose him as well. And then you see some linebackers Jamie Collins and Kyle Van Noy had elsewhere this defense to young papers what headed into the 2020 season? Well, you don't want to be honest with you. If I was your 1st 9 or 10 games last year, they were not facing any good offensive here. I think they were overrated going into the second half of the season. Last year, which doesn't bode well for this year. When you lose guys like Hightower and Patrick Chung, it's two year signal callers to your leaders, senior guys that make a lot of the adjustment. That's not easy to do it in the middle Linebacker treatment policy fellowship. You've got to be spot on with what's happening. You've got to know things before they happen and be able to to get that message across everybody else now. They evolved defensively, dealt with a lot of guys that can that can step up and make the calls. A lot of guys. We'll jump on the opportunity to do that. So I think they're going to be. It's going to be hard pressed to them to repeat what they've had last year on the air last year Ah, very easy first half of the season, so we'll see how it goes with the shirt. Final down, Let's go. All right, Steve DeOssie. When we look at this team, it doesn't seem like you're very optimistic. But we've seen before. Belichick not have the best teams on paper and find a way to win some more games. Some of people think a little bit different when Brady's not there, though, now and we'll see what Cam is. When you look at the FCC Satti Handicap it right now. Is Buffalo gonna win this division? Well, that's why I'm not as pessimistic as my evaluation of the personnel would seem personal wise. I'm not terribly optimistic about it, but in terms of competition I'm very optimistic. I think it would be a CEO. I think we've seen Buffalo do this before. I think they did it seven years ago with Tyrod, maybe more that where they won only got into the playoffs, and then they show backwards again when you used to be Get into the playoffs and they fell back a little bit. They're gonna have some issues to Mecca. Have the benefit of the new schedule. Another place with a lot of paper to the debts aren't going to be a factor. I can't see that mean being remotely effect, And we don't know where I think Miami is still very much in the middle of Ah, huge rebuilding this year is probably gonna be Ah, burning year for a lot of its players. I still I still feel Patriots win the East now. When you talk about playoffs, that's gonna be a lot more difficult. If you have to give me a win number right now, But what do you estimate the wind numbers for the Pats? Uh, I think it's 10 in there, they'd have to get a little bit lucky. 10 wins in 10 to 1 East. And then finally, we're going to give you an extra point here. It's gonna have nothing to do with the Patriots. I just want to say congratulations to your family. I saw your son Zach, You had a great career as a great.

David Archer previews the Atlanta Falcons

"The Atlanta Falcons will do so with a former Falcons quarterback. Now he is their longtime color analysts on the radio network for Atlanta. And that is David Archer. David Hope all is. Well. Thanks for doing this. When we look at the Falcons, they made a big offseason acquisition getting Todd Gurley We don't know where the health is of Todd Gurley. What do you expect at a Todd Gurley coming over from l. A to Atlanta for this upcoming season? Well, be honest with you. I think we're expecting a lot of early and mainly in the Red zone. If you look at Todd Gurley's numbers, even with with so called quote unquote down near Around 900 yards rushing, still had 12 touchdowns. All 12 of those touchdowns came in the red Zone, and I think that Atlanta if they could find a way to run the football down close Help three up the talented weapons that Ryan has on the perimeter. Now, listen, you have a little bit more of a potent attack a little bit more looking a little bit more like what? You looked like a 16 when Avante Freeman and Tevin Coleman. We're carrying the ball down there close and created that problem in the run game. Atlanta has not had that over the last couple of seasons. I think that's where they expect Todd Gurley to make his main hey is down there in the red Zone. With the way that you probably have to manage his reps as a running back the rest of the running back room. Is there something that jumps out to you? Yeah, I think it's a good group. Really Do I think that when you look at Brian, Ill in the way, Brian Gillis Kamani together that Hawkins drafted a couple of years ago, Brian Handsome solid moments a year ago. Quadri Allyson. Kid at Pittsburgh rookie from a year ago. Uh, kind of woke himself. A little bit of a roll is a short yardage guy. £225 Goal line Guy, four touchdowns. Hopefully, you know, Smith can come back. He was injured in the game a year ago. I believe against the Rams in which he was trying to pick up a Blitzer, which he shouldn't be here should be doing, but he is an outstanding receiver out of the backfield. And a good change of pace back at the back, So they get to three young guys that I think you could lean on. And like you said, Take some of that. Load off. Assad, Girl. Let's get to the next down. And when we do so, we take a look at Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. The two big names in that organization. Do you still believe that this team could be a play off team once again with Matt Ryan and Julio Jones? I do, but it's you know, obviously, it's about you know your supporting cast and you do some things on the other side of the ball, and I'm sure there's a question you've got to worry about the defense's side the football, But there there's a little area in the offensive line. The left guard has been a little bit leaky, right guard's been a little bit leaky because of some injuries and things that they could shore up that into your part of the offensive line. Ryan's Like most classic quarterbacks climb in the pocket. They got to be able to give him that opportunity. Do so if you get into your pressure and accurate from problems, one game will help in that regard, but Yeah. Julio Jones, 16 seconds, 1300 yard seasons. Matt Ryan, nine consecutive 4000 yard seasons. I don't see the one those guys backing off. When you talk about that offensive line to follow up on that I'm a big fan of Matt Hennessy. Being a temple grad, really smart football player puts in a lot of work. Is he going to make an immediate impact in your number one? Yeah, There's always a question that he's certainly in the mix to be the starting guard. There's no question about that. I think that there's ah lot excitement around when he brings the table and and obviously the heir apparent, Alex Mack, probably its center. So Alex back in a little bit longer to still have a good football any But I need to put some guys around him that Khun taken, it could be in there and we had German Brown and James Carpenter guys that could not stay on the field. There was some solid moments from those two big veteran players, but they did not stay on the field and consistency. In the interior specialist that left guard spotted Kennedy ultimately will probably win that job and be the starter that guard let's get to the next down. All right, David Archer. When they flip the switch here and go to the other side of the ball defensively, it was an up and down year for the defense, but it seemed like they did finish in a better spot than what they did earlier on in the season. You could probably say that for the entire team with the Atlanta Falcons this division. Is loaded with offensive talent. You know what the Saints are. Now you have Tom Brady and the division with Tampa Bay, and I'll be curious to see what Teddy Bridgewater does with the Panthers. What's your read on the Falcons defense entering 2020 Well, it's an uncertain situation obviously went on God. Dante Fowler, Dad's pressure off the edge contact. McKinley realized what they thought they had when they drafted him a couple of years and the number one spot picked up Charles Haley, who, ironically, was in the same draft. And raided a route the same attack McKinley are Charles Harris. I'm sorry. Charles. Charles Charles Haley. Right way. I'd like to have the guy that was rushing the pastor there for both the Cowboys in the 40 Niners. That would be great, but Harris. He does have some raw talent there. Can't he realize that I'm the Falcon Tutelage will have to wait and see Grady dear. It's an emerging star in the tackle position and Marlon Davidson, Vienna and an interesting ad, a guy that has the versatility to play inside. Maybe in past situations and also play the perimeter as a 34 defensive didn't run down situations. The answer at all Burn second round draft pick of the fact that they think they've upgraded their defensive line. It'll have to be upgraded because you get extremely young secondary. Probably gonna have a rookie a corner starting your nickels, a second year guy in your other corners of third year, guys, So there's a lot of young players on the perimeter need to get some pass rush speed up the thought process for the quarterback. Let's get to the final down. Alright. I'm surprised that Dan Quinn is Bacca's the head football coach for the Lancer Falcons. What does he have to do this year to keep his job and Is that seats the warm because, like I said, I was surprised that they brought him back for this year. It is warm. I think that it's fortunate they brought him back because of the current situation with the pandemic and the uncertainties, so some continuity certainly has played into Atlanta Falcons off season. I think they've had a solid offseason, much as you can, with the limitations. They're attached to this year, So I think that it was good in retrospect that, uh, Mr Black decided to keep Dan Quint on, but I think he's got there. They've got a bit pushed for a playoff spot. I think they've got to be. They can't come out of the box one in seven. It's got to be a team. It's in the hunt of the entire way. As you said, it's going to be outstanding division with outstanding quarterback play, but they have to be in the hunt to be a part of the postseason play. If they do that. And I think the fans will be a little bit of stab on the wound for the fans. But if you get out to a slow start, it would not surprise me. If if Mr Blank made some kind of decision mid season on coach Boy and I think, coach when is the right guy for the job Now it's put up or shut up. He scored a touchdown will go for two here Oscar. One more question This team was 11 5 We all know the deal they were in the Super Bowl blew the 28 23 lead. The next year, they did go 10 and six, the last two years. It's seven and nine. If you had to identify the biggest reason why this team has regressed, and I know they've had some injuries to but overall if it's not the health of the team, what's the biggest thing that you look at? Why this team wasn't able to recreate that magic from 2016 and 2017? I think their inconsistency ball on both sides of the football in conversion, down situations and in the red zone. I think Atlanta's done a great job of moving the ball from 20 to 20 But when they get in the red zone, they bogged down and settle for too many threes. And I think in turn the defense's side of the football. What about 22 23 scoring defense coming up 25 points a game. They've got to find a way to get more stops in the red zone. That's probably the answer that you could probably get from all teams struggled and not made the playoff teams, but I certainly think That that's identifiable with the Falcons over the last couple years, the inability down deep in the red Zone both on offensive defense, Julio Jones, he's Ah Hall of Fame player. We all know that one of the better wide receivers in the league He's only had one year of double digit touchdowns, going back to 2012 when he had 10 TUC maybe 10 touchdowns in his fortunes this year. Well, I think he's certainly capable of it. But you got an outstanding receiver on the other side of Calvin Ridley, who's realized his abilities down in the red Zone Pretty close. I think Aidan hearse is going to be a seamless transition from Austin Hooper tight end spot So there are a lot of weapons from that Ryan to get the football too. Don't forget Todd Gurley and how good he is at the back catching the football as well. So I I would say no, I think he's going to be 89 touchdowns. I don't think he goes double digits, but I think there's a lot of guys around him. They're going to score touchdowns. Look for guys somewhere between 13 14 guys catch touchdown passes issue. Say that we appreciate it. Thanks so much. You be well, my

Well, it's just 2 to 3 years ago, but the the idea think is trusting fellow check in on. Uh, sometimes you gotta let the people do their job That's for Children. Let's get to the next down. Alright. Steve DeOssie when we get to the second down Patriots quarterback situation this year was going to be a battle between Jared Stadium and Brian Hoyer and then The Hoody has a trick up his sleeve and brings in Cam Newton. I don't think this is much of a competition. I'd be shocked if Cam is in starting week one. How do you evaluate the Patriots Current quarterback situation? OBJ: 'The blond is back' and new attitude, too

"Newton Noto Beckham Jr had their own red table talk early on Tuesday. No Jada Pinkett Noble Smith. But that doesn't mean that both of these two were not going to say something that got people's attention. They both used the word humble but coining the context of tired of being humble. Cam Newton said that about replacing Tom Brady, the elephant in the room with the doing the Patriots and Noto Beckham Jr soak office hat and said the blonde is back and said he is tired of being humble. He is tired of playing that game. I don't know if we're going to Jada Pinkett joining them at any time soon, But Cam knew no Dahlbeck. Um do you have there red table talk, and it got plenty of attention, Especially way they use the word humble and the way they wanted to use it being tied of being that way to satisfy others. When it comes to playing football. I don't know if you can hear my eyes rolling in the back of my head right now, But when I saw that first I'm not going to be nice anymore. I saw that I thought was that broke version of LeBron's thing with a shop like that's what I saw, if if anybody wants to do Parody of this, with Victor Cruz leading the conversation, and you've got Odell Beckham looking smug, and it's weird jacket he's wearing Todd Gurley looking like he doesn't know what's going on one side of the table in Cannes, sitting with a cigar in these in these glasses of wine all over the table in the decanter, I mean, It was well done. I'll give him that Odo back him and his production company put this thing together. It was very well. I will say it was great to hear them. Talk about black lives matter Movement and what Corona virus That's very honest things to say about Corona virus and kind of the fear that a lot of people have of playing the season. The athletes at the center of this They are the product. They're the ones who make owners millions and billions of dollars every year yet I think that we missed the mark. Sometimes these were not necessarily considering all the health and safety protocols. Ah, when it comes to them, But so that's the stuff that I actually could get down with. But when the word humble was thrown around, I felt like you know, I needed Kendrick Lamar to come in and just kind of like, walk that back a little bit, because when you talk about the blonde is back and this that and the other thing with Odell Beckham have we not been hearing some version of the same thing for the last 3 to 4 years, Freddie Even before he went to Cleveland. I mean, it's every single season is new Year new Me New Year new Me But silence the haters. Got a You know, everybody wants to be labeled. We want to label something in society because we don't know what it is. And I'm tired of being labeled. Oh, my goodness. I'm tired of hearing this is every single year Put up or shut up, bro. I can't handle it anymore. By the corner. Cronin, Finn Fitzsimmons of Freddie Coleman on Friday and Fitzsimmons and ESPN radio. I said it's for the longest time and every time he does or says something like this without a Beckham Jr It further further confirms my suspicions. He still wants to be in New York. He doesn't want to be in Cleveland. Yeah, he'll say all the right things about the organization. But if he had his way, he still be a New York giant playing in the biggest city in the world when it comes to New York because his personality fits more in New York than it does in Cleveland. He doesn't realize that if he just goes out there because to me, he has way too much talent. So have that kind of mouth promising and making those false promises would come without backup Jr. I'm with you. I don't want to hear about humility I don't want to hear about the blind is back in. All of the nonsense stopped talking about it Be about it because you had that kind of ability and talent. But I still wonder I don't want any more. He confirms it every time Courtney Every time he opens his mouth. It tells me each and every time That he still wants to be in the biggest city in the world. Whether the New York Giants or in New York jet, Cleveland does not fit the personality to me in the mind of Odo Beckham Jr so and you're putting that out there. To me. It seems like he's laying the groundwork that if eyeball out in Cleveland, I want to go somewhere else where I believe my personality is going to fit that city and clear as a great sports city. Put it back on. Gina's realized that if he bawls out in Cleveland and leads into the playoffs and end of a deep run in the play offs, he could go anywhere representing him in a Cleveland Browns, but because he doesn't leave his personality Is suited for Cleveland. He keeps putting stuff out there time and time again to let everybody know I'm a celebrity, and I'm too much of a celebrity for the city that I'm playing it now because I did not want to be traded away from the city where I started my NFL career in the first place, and it's like we've seen the story play out. I said again and again, I mean, think about some of the distractions and think about what happened this offseason with him handing out cash Tol issue players of the national championship and You know, slapping the police officer on the Mac side in Superdome, and you know all of these things. It's like he was quiet for a little bit. And there were some trade rumors before that. I mean, like it or not, there was talks behind the scenes about him trying to get out of Cleveland. I have Pete. You know, sources that I've spoken with people close the situation. I know that it's been debunked allegedly at this point, but at one point that was actually in the works being talked about. It didn't just come out of thin air, so I mean I understand where he's at right now in wanting to wipe the sleep this late, clean because, you know, by his standards, you know he didn't you know, he still was 1000 yard receiving season last year, but he wasn't where he wanted to be. I think that he had different expectations for what his first year Cleveland could have looked like. But you know, the blonde is back. Does that mean that the celebrity and all of the distractions come with it to be as you'll remember? You know that last season in New York in 2018 there were a lot of distractions. There was an interview with Little Wayne where he was talking about his quarterback and essentially throwing him under the bus that created a lot of distractions in the locker room. So I mean, is that coming with it? If you're talking about the blonde is back, because, sadly, we know that this is one of the most talented wide receivers to ever play the game. But beyond that, you know, the blonde has kind of been the demise for him.

Cam Newton Rumors: Cleveland Browns Spoke to QB; New England Patriots Only Team to Make Contract Offer

"The Adam Schefter report from earlier in the week that New England was the only team to offer new in a contract in Cleveland was the only other team to even check in on him. And it just seems so strange to me that a quarterback with that type of record in that type of proven track record as a quarterback doesn't get a little bit more into any interest really around the league, would you? Put that mortar towards his perceived personality issues. I personally think that all of that is garbage that it shouldn't matter that on the field is really what should matter if he's a little quirky. Who cares? Or do you think, which also was very likely? I think scenario that it just didn't play out. The timing was bad for Newton that When the pandemic happened, and when the league basically shut down was when teams had all of these injury questions with him. Right. I think there's a lot of issues here in hand. First of all, there is a stick mount there still, and it may be just a few general managers. Maybe just one or two. I don't think I have. The league thinks he's you know a problem in the locker room. They'd be foolish to think that these guys talk to each other runaways, exactly coaches. And you know, Cam is very well respected. You've seen some of the miked up stuff. And some of the behind the scenes stuff with camp gets along great a lot of his peers not only when Carolina a swelling around the week but also ah lot in the media, too. I think it's struck me was the injury. Was just so poorly timed out from his perspective, because, you know you've got a robust quarter market. I mean, you got Tom Brady out there. You've got guys left and right, you know, making transactions for quarterbacks. To the point where your injury rehab. It's timed out just woefully bad in terms of all that market activity, and so Cam's not looking to be a backup. No speculation. He may be backing up in New England police that want to get folks I just think it times out really poorly for him this time around. So when the starting almost got eaten up in that first week or two afraid, Vincey, I honestly think it was more pin taking a step back and say, You know what? We reassess my situation. Carolina. You know, I wanted to be there, but clearly they didn't want me there. And there was a $19 million deal right there the last year that deal that I don't know Carolina or he or comfortable with, but at the same time he's now paying, you know 5 50 Base and a lot of incentive to which is remarkably low, in my opinion, got to play for Bill Belichick, and I think that's the wild card there. I'm not sure if he would play for any other teams for that amount. He sees value there. And speaking of value.

"Tonight I think it's exciting to see what Newton can do a healthy Newton with Josh McDaniels and bill ballot check in this offense sieve juggernauts if you well and remember McDaniels they run a very innovative offense that Matt Werner ram mentioned it last hour in twenty ten they draft Gronk Aaron Hernandez they go to that too tight and sat before everybody else they have in the NFL did then it's copy cats city they hurried up shortly thereafter before chip Kelly was even hired by the eagles and now that's commonplace and this new read option type offense the Newton is a master of the patriots haven't done it given Tom Brady's obvious limitations in that category so this picture offense last year was a boring offense to watch it was a slog it was a struggle it wasn't exciting it was the first time where if you're a patriots fan you looked wistfully at the other teams and said why why can't we have Josh Allen yeah there is a ton of pics but always teases interesting to watch why why can't we have Lamar Jackson Pat Mahomes Ryan Tannehill why why can't we have to Shawn Watson why can't we have a quarterback who can move a little bit who can do more than the ball on the territory a five yard screen pass to a double covered Julian Edelman why well healthy cam Newton gives the patriots a more dynamic offensive attack I mean let's face it this was not a very good offense with Tom Brady especially in the second half of last season I think that there is that thirsty to try something new in belt check the is a really smart guy and smart people want new challenges and I think him new night I think introducing that element of offense which is going to come anyway because Jarrett Stidham is more mobile too so either way the patriots were gonna introduce more of that read option modern type NFL offense but and I think that excite spell check and probably excites McDaniels and in terms of where they're going as a running a running based offense Newton obviously is far more dynamic in that category the Brady too and if Sony Michelle returns to form a franchise and left guard this offseason me not to the patriots about their starting center David Andrews back healthy and they have three guys who can now play full back including two players who they drafted this year that's clearly the direction the patriots are moving find a really good and versatile defense and I Bella check as one league does this as the week goes this way Belichick is going that way and that you see that the roster construction of this team and I can even help

Patriots sign QB Cam Newton to replace Tom Brady

"Cam noon has found a new home with none other than the New England patriots. While, this was a place that many people had suggested and thought about after his I think it was yeah. You least obviously after release. There was no. We figured if it was going to happen, it would have happened already, but I guess the pages take time. Do they do diligence? Make sure in fact that he was healthy 'cause he looks I mean some the work. Suppose he looks healthy, but you don't really now When Negga said there was no rush. It was like all right. He's a free agent. There's someone else assign. They can but if not, then we'll just be able to wait it out and I guess after once you saw how the dominoes kind of played out and says he didn't go to. The grisly inaugurnat the grizzlies while. That the chargers, the ninety plan the same town, so like that weird was say with with the chargers since he didn't sign there. was like honestly, where else was he? Never said that he wouldn't be better than some of the starting quarterbacks that are currently with their teams, but is when you look around and see. At look at the potential starting spot. That would be available this season. Every really want that many out there after again after his release, Efi begin the preseason beginning all season. MIROSLAVA different but. Time he got released. It was like there was only so many places he could go in. New England was one of them, though is one of those things where it was like you were just. Confused just because if you thought that he was gonNA, they were GonNa do it. You thought they would have done it already. But again took their time and he's still got the deal done. If. That was the guy that they wanted so. Cam noon again as I said reached a one year incentive, laden deal with new pages lead sources told ESPN ESPN Chris Mortensen Adam Schefter. Be Mixed with Jarret Stidham Brian Hoyer. To Rabih the I. Don't think necessarily be the heir-apparent only one year. So who knows you can be their past the season? But. Potentially these bridge the gap to the air pair. Of Tom Brady with with new, England.

Cam Gets Signed

"Well there was big news coming last night. Courtesy of our Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen former MVP cam. Newton is a free agent. No more instead Newton is heading to new. England to join forces with bill, Belichick and follow in the footsteps of another MVP Tom Brady. And Cam Newton's cryptic fashion. He had this to say the instagram. I'm excited because I know what right now all praise to God dropping contact tomorrow. I hope you're ready Hashtag. Let's go pat. And so now we know, and we'll start with Adam Schefter, and our health hall of Famer. Steve Young One one. Just tell us how we got here. How did this deal get done? Listen I think it took Cam Newton a little bit of time to recognize that there was not a thirty plus million dollar a year job on the market when you released two weeks into the free agent signing period not only that there's not an obvious starting job that's out there, and so the longer this went on, and the less he heard from teams, and there really was nobody that he heard from the more he recognized that he had to find the right spot. And if you're going to find the right spot, there's nothing wrong with taking new. England Riga tour with Bill Belichick and Josh mcdaniels, and the new quarterbacks coach Jed fish in an offense. That obviously is going. Going to be trying to replace Tom Brady where you're competing with the guy like Jarret, Stidham hasn't proven that he can play yet in the NFL and so cam. Newton goes to New England on a one year deal where he gets to reestablishes value show that he's healthy, and over the shoulder and foot injuries that he has been dealing with the last two years, and this is the the place that he now tries to relaunch his NFL career at the age of thirty one, which should be most quarterbacks, the prime of their career, no question and Adam. How likely is it that this is in effect? A one year auditioned for Cam to be with the Patriots beyond this season. Wendy what I would say is this if Cam Newton plays well, the Patriots obviously would be interested in resigning him, and if not, they have the ability to move on from him. It depends on how the year goes. It's difficult to forecast that right now. All we know is that the Patriots signed a former. Most Valuable Player who won that award in two thousand fifteen, who has tremendous ability who goes into this offense, and now we'll have to learn it, which is not going to be an easy task in a shortened off season for put as the ability to be dominant quarterback. If he can pick up that system if he plays that way, you would think that no one would not let him out. Out, the door, but again there's a whole year. They WANNA see Newton. They WANNA see them. They want to see a year goes to. It's truly to say that just yet well. Yeah, I mean a lot can happen in a year. We've all we've all seen that in Steve. How do you like the fit between cam? Newton and what he brings on the field and the New England patriots. When healthy. Rusted Cam Newton mean it's like. Manna from heaven right I mean in many ways I, think Josh, mcdaniel and Bill Belichick sitting around a lot of times. Saying. Could you imagine what we could do with this guy or that? Guys? They play these players. Run the League, and they see them in places where I'm sure they say because they're supreme of conference. Not Hubris just supreme confidence that if we could get a hold of him what we could do with him, and we can really expend on what you're seeing around the league. What we can do is special, and so I'm sure they're saying this about. If Cam comes in his foot is okay. Because we know the arm is all right, we should. We saw that early last year before. So. We know that he's healthy. If his what is good and he can move, you've got. Hungry. Sophisticated and the type caliber Blair in New England, where you have bill and Josh saying you can't imagine what we're GonNa, do with this kid and so I think that's I. think that's the conversation. That's happening right now. New England, Steve. Look it's anybody's guess at this point, but you. You have an opinion very qualified one. What do you believe the likelihood? Is that Cam Newton? Is the Patriots Starting Quarterback Week One? Again if healthy, if he can move around, I can't imagine them with his talent level, and what they think they can do them again. It becomes a you know it's a proof point for what they're out to show their out to show that we can do special things with special players, and so it's it becomes A. A right of passage to be in New England, and that we can take somebody, and we can show you amazing things that can be done and they've done that with flair after play after player so Cam Newton and healthy can move around. I. It's GonNa be, too. It's like a gravitational force when it's to special to be able to show what they can do with a great Cam Newton. Yeah,

Boston's New England Patriots Cam Newton is the greatest QB in his division

"Further proven otherwise can't noon is now the best quarterback in his division right I mean he's the best quarterback in the division right now I mean he's won a lot of games and he's thrown a lot of touchdowns and he's big and he's strong and he's good mostly like arm he's good yeah and Alan and Donna are unproven they are and could that change after four weeks this year yeah that could change like cam Newton could end up getting benched for ineffective play and can't and and Josh Allen and Sam Darnold both look hot out of the gates and both are leading football in passing state statistic that could totally happen and I could you know eat my words I don't want to say I don't expect that to happen I sure hope it happens but as it stands right now to day and this is a criticism I have of people who are like Nate you said cam Newton could be better than Tom Brady this year are you crazy Tom Brady from five years ago and I just want to stop you there because this is a top twenty from five years ago this is Tom Brady from right now and Tom Brady right now is not the Tom Brady of even four or five months ago he is forty something I'm almost thirty and I can barely play thirty six holes of golf without needing a jacuzzi tub in a backrub so don't give up right now I know Tom Brady's in slightly better shape than me I will concede that he likely has a slightly more rigorous workout regimen I get it he might be paying slightly more money to you know trainers and consultants slightly more I will concede that but the idea that we can't say cam Newton to day right now side by side with Tom Brady and cam Newton if you're going to tell me that he is better I I I don't I don't know about that I I just I think if you got a look at it from a non biased lands in say yes Tom Brady has warped and walloped this team for twenty years I respect the hell out of Tom Brady and if you don't I don't know what you've been watching but what I'll say is if you compare the two two day not you can't cherry pick this you can't say Tom Brady from two years ago in cam Newton from six years ago like add up but that's that's not what we can do here in this in this argument so I don't know I think it's really interesting I think we're going to figure out what you have in cam Newton pretty early on but it can't do is healthy pestilence seven wins at least for the new in the pictures I don't know what you could have penciled in you know yesterday Saturday before cam Newton came out like that I don't know what you can pencil maybe you maybe you're thinking with Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer whatever combination into going with their maybe you think therefore when football team I think that's crazy to think that with that defense yeah the news Kyle van Noy there was a couple other pieces but like that's again a defense that was literally last year considered maybe from a from an actual roster district and advanced analytics they appoint the best defense ever in terms of scoring and yardage output the fact that they're gonna lose one two players from a defense return everybody else that they're just gonna take this big dry I don't know

NFLPA's Smith: Workouts go against player safety

"Figure out what is the right way for players to get ready to play in the NFL. Without undue risk, and the undue risk this offseason is exposure to the thing that for a long time shutdown all sports in this country, the Corona virus in the cove in 19 pandemic, So we've seen quarterbacks quarterback specifically right. I'm sure it's happening everywhere. Let's have more places and yet, but we've seen two very visible situations. Tom Brady, trying to get with his new team, the Patriots, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and get them going. Russell Wilson also working out with teams in Seattle, sort of in a very public way, trying to get the chemistry and get it going because we haven't had a TA is in many camps in all this off season, and we're a month away from starting training camps will divorce Smith, the head of the Players Association, the NFLPA, the executive director, said. Look, guys, don't do this. The the NFLPA doctor has come out, said Don't work out with each other. And tomorrow. Smith tried to reinforce that over the weekend by saying, Look, guys, what you're doing is in Congress with the message we're trying to send, which is stay healthy. Stay safe so we can get to training camp. And start the regular season. And then you have Tom Brady holding these very public workouts, and Russell Wilson, I'm sure more free for doing it. But those are the eyes and those of the people that we see well, and quite honestly, I see both sides of it. I I see what the more Smith again when you're ahead of the union. It's the majority that you're you're trying to protect You correct one of the reasons that the last Ciba past because it benefitted more of the majority. On this one. And that's what that's what the head of the union has to look out for. And remember the last debate. When players wanted a different type of OT, a system they wanted less two a days padded practices in two days, it was all about player safety. And now you're going into a season where there's going to be a whole lot of player safety and covert testing and such and dear saying, guys, if you want me to talk to the league and about player safety in the league is just going to look at me and say How much your players really care about safety. Look at all the quarterbacks out there with 89 other teammates, disregarding not helping the what you're supposed to be doing when covert around so I understand more society that and I understand the player's side of quite honestly, I understand player if I were still a player now I was in a position to D line where you're not getting together with everybody and having workouts. But if I was a quarterback or a receiver or in this case is at the centre goes there, too. And my quarterback was like, especially if it's a new quarterback, even if it's not. Hey, let's get together. Work like hell. Yeah, let's go. I mean, right in this, I would be doing the exact same thing. So a lot of them are Jeff

"Here we go. Okay Brady on his favorite receiver quotes. There's not one it's impossible. Tom are false. That's false. Tom does not believe that Tom Knows Randy Moss is easily the best wide receiver. He's ever had a political answer. That is false. It's true. It say that there's not one it's impossible. We know that he doesn't really believe that. That's what he said Brady on if he is free from Bella, check quotes I'm the same Tom Brady. Tom Or false false. Because he now does to our interviews with Howard Stern and talks about his testicles. It's true he did say that Tom. Why Are we playing the game that he said it or we play the game that I don't believe he means it now. These are all actual. The actual. Buys it or not all right? Brady on the Patriots upcoming season quote want them to do great. Is that Tom Falsely believe that he thinks that or not. Okay false. Here's why. He's not rooting for them to be humiliated or hurt. But. You're kidding yourself if Tom Brady doesn't want to flourish. And isn't kind of hoping. They're not as robust without him. That's how humans.

"Long two times a rebel champ former patriot. Ram Eagle Defensive Player. Of course his dad is Howie Long. Who's been a Rockstar and Fox? Sports Forever Chris. Long be joining us here in about fifteen minutes joy. How are you great? Happy Back on with you Colin. It's nice you can see joy now. You've heard her voice for a couple of weeks and we're tinkering. I'm watching all sorts of different people. Today you know. They're at their homes broadcasting I have a microphone and a set up in my house. I haven't used it yet. I could I do I do prefer Having people here and being live with people prepping and trying out some of the stuff. That's how I like to do it. but there are people that Like rush limbaugh does his from his home So everybody's different and we're all just kind of getting by and we're trying to figure it out very encouraging numbers now hospitalization rates going down in Europe and most American cities right now. We don't have the surge in the hospitals that's overwhelmingly Jersey's only got two hospitals of the seventy. They've got that are like a pack as of right now. That's what I'm reading online from people I trust. So there's good news social distancing still in effect for the next couple of weeks. I think that's vital. It does look like the University of Washington model. The peak is in three days not ten. That's good news. We're looking for peaks. We're looking for hospitalization rates. Going down so we can at least create a little more normalcy in our lives. But it's going to be a trickle. It's not gonNA be a flood back into our normal lives. This whole this is not our economy's not going to be a V. SHAPE. It's going to be a slow push back. It's going to take months and months to. Let's talk about this before we get to Howard stern and Tom Brady number one the NBA yesterday Adam. Silver said he is eyeing Labor Day. That's the first weekend of football in America. College already starts on Labor Day weekend. Nfl starts the following Thursday. And then we're football season in earnest begins once the NFL really begins so June tenth so if Labor Day's the end a and we know the playoffs last eight weeks that means you have to start the playoffs by July first. Okay so what that Ledeen eat. I think it's reasonable to think you need three weeks before that for training camp and maybe a couple of exhibition games. Because as I've said before there's nobody really we already knew the playoff teams are Portland. Could get really really hot and win. Five Straight Games if you had the regular season and get in But the eight plays team would have to lose three or four those five we know who the playoff teams are. I'm not going to lose a lot of sleep. If Washington doesn't get in or Portland doesn't get in love Portland but they have. They've been wildly inconsistent. Not very good defensively in the back court. We know who they are. We Love Damian Lillard so I think they should just start with the playoffs and go. And as I've said before the Miami Heat and Lebron James I title was strike shortened year. Nobody cares if the end of a movie is Great People Forget about the choppy Middle Lebron's first title with him. Bosh was a strike shortened season. And you never bring it up and we never hold against Lebron. Why because it was awesome. It was an awesome championship. So if there's a good championship playoff round. Lebron faces the Clippers Milwaukee and Boston. Nobody's GonNa care that you only pay like sixty eight games sixty five. Nobody's GonNa care. Nobody's GonNa care if the NFL and we played fourteen sixteen and he had great playoffs and a great December. Nobody twenty-five years at a bar having a mic light cares so what you basically have to do in the NBA. July first. You have to start the season. I think it takes three weeks of training camp in some at least. Inter squad games to get ready. So players are fairly finely tuned twenty days of practice. So cannot happen well do. I think we're GONNA see significantly. Lower numbers of this virus will be a flat in the curve. I believe in in in nine weeks from today when you'd have to start practice. Yes will we have machines capable of testing people within five minutes? It looks like according to Dr Falcons. Were getting close on that. Yes will it. Be Seamless? No will it be perfect. No it's managing a crisis. I've said before now that we have not had the hospital surges outside of New York City. That are predicted. It's now just managing this crisis. Once you flatten the curve. It's managing you. Don't have the hospital issue so we have forty seven thousand suicides in America. Today you manage you. Don't solve it okay. The reason our teen You know our death rate in America if you look at the average American lives we seventy-nine in Japan. It's I think it's eighty one and a half people say it's Diet. Some of it is teenagers. Were on the road driving in this country we let them and there's a lot of accidents and it sad we manage it. We never solve it so once the hospital surge issue is sort of not the primary issue. It's just saving lives. You manage it. You're not going to solve it if the NBA came back and had a player coaches with Cova nineteen. You just manage it. You don't end it so I think I in my entire life. You can't solve every problem you you. You get rid of the scariest part of the problem. And from that point forward it is a it is a medical management situation because we have to now have really adult conversations and I know they're uncomfortable about pivoting back to an economy that I think is going to hurt the poorest Americans. It's GonNa hurt the poorest Americans. We can't have that we. We can't be there already at a massive disadvantage. We can't end their hope. So now we have to have real conversations in America about restarting the American economy. It'll be a trickle not a v-shape but this is just another thing. We have to manage once the hospital. Surge we can get past that stage and we could be four to five to six days past it. We're getting close in most cities. Then we manage so I think the NBA. He's got a shot. I'm not gonNA make any predictions. I think we should just get through April and early. May I think we should just not make predictions for a month? You know come back to me. Like may may eighth may tenth. We can start making predictions. Now let's just wait all right so Tom Brady was on Howard Stern. This morning. It was interesting I think the big bomb on it was the the obvious. One was Tom Made up his mind before most of us thought he did when he was going to leave New England. I don't think there was a final final decision. You know until it happened but I would say I'm probably knew before the start of last season that it was my last year. I I knew that you know it was just our time. Was you know our time was was coming to an end. It's okay it was a great relationship. Tom Put his house up for sale. Alex was trainer. Put his house up for sale a handful of reporters I trust. Jeff Darlington does a great job He was out there saying It this is serious and there were signs and it was a great relationship but it ended but Tom sort of knew going into it. I'm moving and I would say this for most Americans who changed jobs you just don't wake up in the morning and go. I'm leaving. It's just like a relationship you don't wake up in the morning and say yeah he treats me like garbage out. They say you have an emotional affair before you have a physical affair you think about stuff you drive. I think about all the time in the car I leave my show. I drive home and I tried to flush some things out so I don't burn my wife with things if I have something that I'm I'm I'm thinking about and it's kind of an issue. I like to turn the radio off and talk to myself and think about it and get through it. People generally don't make massive decisions in an instant. Tom Thought about this great thought for several years and then over the course of the season of it. He made his mind up. I also thought was really vulnerable of Tom. Brady and I think it's really cool. That he he opened up with Howard Howard's going to ask some personal stuff you know. What kind of underwear does she wear? I mean that's Howard okay so but I thought it was a very adult interview in very classy and Tom. Smart but he was. He did talk about His marriage to Giselle and that at some point She she there was a little come to Jesus. Meeting Giselle wasn't happy in the marriage. She didn't feel like I was doing my part for the family. You know and she felt like I would play football all season and she would take care of the house and then all of a sudden when the season ended. I'd be like great. Let me get into all my other business activities. I had to like check myself. Because she's like I have goals and dreams to. It's just not this. You know do these things either so you you better start you know taking care of things at the house. She actually wrote me a letter and it was a very thought out letter that you know she wrote it to me and I still have it and you know I keep it in a drawer and I read it you know. And it's a very heartfelt for her to say. This is where I'm at marriage. I think that's cool to talk about and it's incredibly relatable to know that Tom Brady. His wife writes him letters to and is not always happy. He also talked about the first time he ever was introduced to Giselle. We met at this wine bar called Turks and frogs in the West village. I was sitting in and she walked in. She sat down. I mean obviously I thought she was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in my life and then as we got to know each other within a few months we we thought like all right like this is this is GonNa be pretty serious and it was a you know it was interesting time. 'cause we found out after that that my ex girlfriend was pregnant with my oldest son. We were forced into this very important thing that was happening in our life at a new part of our relationship. I found out a lot about Giselle through this experience. She found out a lot about me dealing with a situation that was I would say a very You know not not I would say a very easy one. I loved it. I thought it was the new Tom. You Gotta learn more about Tom. It was a two hour interview I'm sure a lot of people that'll that'll put that on their podcast that Hampshire that will do great numbers but I got a little refreshing new tom and open. Tom talked about his personal life. you know. I mean New England system and culture the DNA of the Patriots is suppressed information. Everything suppress comments. And you know Tom. Wants to you know the new. Tom Is going to have opinions. I'm going to do interviews. I WANNA grow my business. I want to win football games and and I've said this The three times I've left in my life the one thing I'll say every time I left a company that three or four times I've done it. You try to solve the biggest issue at your previous place and the two things. Tom Keeps showing me and talking about. He wanted. Better weapons to throw to and he wanted to have a little more fun and fun is doing. Howard stern interviews. Bruce Arians is fun. Bruce Arians is fun and the Tampa. Bay buccaneers have weapons and those are the two things that Tom I think was seeking coming out of New England. And I think he's I think he's going to have both of those answer now. There'll be some inefficiencies maybe going to a losing franchise from a winning culture but I like to. I don't often tell you to go. Listen to somebody else's podcast but goal is new. Have Your own opinions on the Brady Howard stuff? We.

"I'm not looking at the all twenty two so I can't testify to how good the bucks supporting cast and offensive line. All work together but I suspect that there probably are some holes there that make them a little bit vulnerable James Winston last year even though he did throw You know in addition to thirty interceptions through I think the the highest perceptible rate in many years of in terms of passing so He clearly was a problem there. But I don't think it was all that like the Buxton were able to move the ball with James Winston but. I'm not sure that we sell these. Got All these weapons all. Nfl teams have weapons. Somebody almost one every team that is Mike Evans Lake or something like that. We'll see how successful he is. But I mean we know what the history of the NFL is. We're old enough to know that generally doesn't end well for the old quarterback the changes teams. You know what I mean like or the old superstar that changes teams late net career. Guys get old. The Patriots saw that and it should make other everybody else think. Well what does Bill Belichick? If Bill Belichick is genius that we think he is then people should be thinking. Why WOULD BILL Belichick? Tom Brady go like why? Why would he let him go at this age? Why would you let him retire with them and to me? That says something about what they think about. Tom Brady at this point in his career. Maybe it's something that other. Nfl teams are aware of and we'll probably see play out. If the season comes to be. Yeah I think that's exactly right so I think that's the way to view the story. It's one part football and one parts soap opera craft through Bella. Check under the bus at the end of this bell. Check through Brady off the team and Brady went out with a flame thrower behind him. Talking about how unhappy he's been for years. And that's all separate from whether Tom Brady is a good quarterback anymore. Let's under there. Let's also just pause on the fact that this was a conversation. You can't get more sports than this. Congratulations to ask Yeah Greg. Nfl thanks the following message is brought to you by Samuel Adams. There's not enough positively being.

"Tom. Brady to go against drew brees twice a year. Tom Brady and go against Matt Ryan twice a year. I think that's going to entertain us if we then. Nfc Conference obviously They're going to be going up against potentially an Aaron Rodgers. We'll see that matchup. We'll see him go against Russell Wilson. We'll see them. Go up against Jimmy Garoppolo for all. We made no of course the cowboys as well so I love that. I also love the fact that Tom Brady is going to have some weapons. We can sit up and talk about any slippage only wants to. I'm not going to deny that there may have been a touch. I'm certainly not GonNa go as far as others have gone and talking about the level of slippage that they've witnessed because I have been focused on him. Being bereft the weapons necessary in order to succeed. Because I've never seen a quarterback successful throwing the football to themselves in you got Mike Evans in Tampa. That's not going to be a problem. Got Godwin you got OJ. How with all of these guys are in Tampa where Bruce Arians of being a Guy Byron left which let's not forget his name. This is a guy that was a former quarterback obviously at Marshall Former quarterback in national football league an offensive coordinator in Tampa. If we're going to sit here and say that James Winston was not as awful as we all thought he was and truth be told he wasn't because he did throw for five thousand yards. But this is a guy that through thirty interceptions which is why he was universally Ovilla nods to some degree but in the end he had a lot of potential they had a lot of potential offensively Byron left which has a lot to do with that the combination of which along with Bruce Arians. You've got Tom. Brady not turning the football over running your offense ensuring that at the very least you're not going to beat yourself. I think it elevates tampers chances exponentially to at least make the playoffs and potentially have some degree of success in the playoffs so I do like it for him. Tampa has an embarrassment of riches in terms of weapons on offense and this was a very smart and for me unexpected. Move from Brady. Not that. He's not smart but the chargers also have weapons in L. A. And just assumed that he would wanna go to. La and the chargers brand has always been weak compared to the rams and the Raiders Brady could kind of set that kind of ignite their brand and also set himself up with TB twelve and all that stuff he made the wise choice he.

"And the straight talk to me is really about the Patriots. Look we've been anticipating at least the potential that Tom Brady could be walking away from the Patriots. Since the Fall Adam Schefter has been yelling about it as loud as anyone could here and now he's right. The question is if Adam can anticipate it. Weakened anticipate we've been talking about for about it for months after patriots not been thinking about this. Why do they not have a better plan? Jared stadium is right now on the roster and expected by some to get the opportunity if you watch a lot of college football you know the name jared. He was supposed to be the next great thing and Auburn. It looked like he was going to make Auburn a different team. He was going to take them to a different level. And then it just didn't happen if you go back and you look at the tape for stem there were moments and it was great and there were moments. That was head-scratching now. We don't know what it's been now that he's been under the Patriots Tutelage for a year. But we know this. The Patriots don't have a set option. I mean think about it yesterday. Is The news started to break the? Cam. Newton is going to be traded. How many people were trying to put cam onto the Patriots roster all that made me think we left the show yesterday as I understand it. I said yesterday you're allowed to have ego on. Both sides Egos not a bad word. Some people say Egos a bad word. I if you've accomplished as much as Tom Brady. And Bill Belichick have you're allowed to have some level of ego. I've no problem with that so I have no problem in my mind with yesterday saying Brady walked into Belichick and said I wanna do things this way. This is what I WANNA do to say. I have no problem with checks and cool. I respect that. But that's not the way I'm going to do things so you know if you WanNa stay with New England. You have to do it my way. I have no problem with all of that because they both accomplish so much. What's confusing to me? The farther I walk away from that is how bill not have a better option. Jimmy Garoppolo was supposed to be that option at one point here and we can have the debate all day long on whether or not trading Jimmy G. was the right thing to do but there's no debate over the fact Jimmy. He's been gone for a long time. So how do the Patriots not have their minds on? What's next? We really believe in a world understand because of cove nineteen into corona virus. There is the opportunity at least the chance right now. The OTAS won't be happening. We talked about part of the reason that teddy bridgewater made sense to be reunited with Joe Brady his former passing offense coordinator with New Orleans. He now is reunited with Joe Brady in Carolina. That makes sense because he knows that offense right. Who knows Josh mcdaniels offense I mean trading? Andy Dalton is fine but how is he GONNA learn system? How's it going to get the reps? How's he going to become the starting quarterback and how on God's Green Earth as my gulag always says how on God's Green Earth did the Patriots not anticipate that? That's the part. I can't wrap my head around if we believe that. Andy Dalton should be the next quarterback or if you believe the Jameis Winston is going to go up and be a reclamation project that bell checking. Get right if you believe that. There's a mid level quarterback that's GONNA find their way to New England. Fine but how do they not have their mind to wrap wrapped around that to begin with then you also have to look around and suddenly ask yourself our team's going to be willing to help the Patriots I mean for anyone that says they'll just trade for somebody remember? A trade takes two partners to partners equally devoted to making a train happen. Now that means the trade has to be beneficial both ways. If you're a team with the starting quarterback that the Patriots are interested. I don't know but is there some level of hesitation? Do you not want to trade to breathe the air to Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Because you're concerned rightfully so that that quarterbacks thing going to be hugely successful if you're the bengals keep using Andy Dalton. Because we know he's out there he's out there on the market if you're the bengals and you have. Andy Dalton under contract. Do you really want to send him to? New England while you draft Joe Borough and suddenly watched the possibility that Andy Dalton United Bill belichick becomes. This dynamic duo. That wins a bunch of games. I'm not sure it's stunning to me today. Not just that. Tom Brady. Isn't the quarterback for the Patriots? That's not as stunning. Because frankly if you listen to our analyst for the last several months you might it seen it coming. What's stunning to me is it. The Patriots don't seem to have a clear cut answer on what's next. Nfl analyst. Marcus Spears joins us now on the Shell Pennzoil performance line. Marcus what do you think would be next for the Patriots? You're different fits See where he goes bad. See if he can I guess carried is ship and become a good player room. Everybody needs to remember Tom. Brady wasn't late round pick. They didn't know what they had and Tom Brady. So before we cancel out the fact that just did a may be a very capable quarterback I had a chance to watch him at Auburn. He's really good Now obviously want to see that translates to the next level but before we out on the kid before we start predicting all of these commodities guys that are That have been in the league and have had some some level of success. I think we need to stay patient. I think that's what they're gonNA do. Obviously bring a Petrie in case it doesn't work out but I believe the Patriots are gonNA give them every possibility. Um to be their starting quarterback he's been in that system He understands the Patriot way. They liked him out of college. They drafted him so now. He's up and see where he can go from here. Well you mentioned it Marcus. You've seen a lot of them. We're talking to football. Marcus Spears on the Shell Pennzoil performance line. I figure take Jason Fitz. You've seen a lot of jeered cinnamon college and there was this moment at Auburn. Where there was this expectation that he was gonNA take the Auburn program the next level and it just didn't happen so we're did things in his at the end of his college career. Where did things sort of go wrong for them? Well he didn't first of all terrible system for his first skills that And I know everybody's talking about How good he was he did. He did win. The Iron Bowl had a great game. against Alabama but more importantly managers system. That's not the type of guy that thrives In that office he has some Great Day. He had some great. Daisy is not so great days but when you're fighting the the constructive what the offense mindset is when you're fighting the cost of two guys. Maybe wanting to call plays at the time at Auburn a lot of things jurisdiction had to sit through One thing is clear cutting those things. Don't make a decision or call plays. He's GonNa make a decision on who coaches the quarterback. And that's going to be the mainstay so Put put players in a position that sixty give them every opportunity to succeed and if they don't then you go another direction but I wouldn't I would say for his career at Auburn. Being a transfer being so out of what is offensive Skill set provided based on the scheme that they ran He did he did a commendable job. There Want some big games and there's some nice things so now it's a it's the New England Patriots and obviously Tom Brady is left. And we're going to compare. It would do this kid a disservice if we mentioned Tom. Brady's name While he's trying to take the reins obviously he knows And everyone else knows what Tom Brady left in New England legacy that he left and the things that he was able to accomplish. But but this is like anything else man. Sports is like that sports is a sports ends abruptly guys retired guys go to different teams abruptly. There's no parade there's no Changing of guard or facilitate you know ushering in the mix guy. It's an abrupt ending. That's what Tom Brady just did born to sample. That's what Joe Montana did That's what Brett farve did and unfortunately for a lot of guys in this league in the NFL when you get your opportunity especially as a quarterback spot you either take advantage of it or you. Don't and that's what Tom Brady. If if I didn't take anything away from Tom Brady drew bledsoe out. Tom Brady comes in. The rest is history. How'd you go write his own book? "We'll steve thanks so much for joining us. How are things in Summerville right now? Well is a multitude of ways. The answer that I mean. Obviously we're all under lockdown. We're trying to do the best for the country and stay out of trouble so to speak in the. You can also look at it through the Lens of okay your fervent die-hard Patriots Ma'am. You can't leave the House and then oh we've got more bad news Tom. Brady's not coming back so that's one way to look at it. Yeah so how? Easy New England coping with the loss of Tom. Brady and a lot of ways. I have to kind of guess because I haven't been to my coffee shop. I haven't been in my gym. I haven't been to the bike path where I take the dogs. And there's any number of people from whom I forge a lot of my impressions on things because these people see in day to day basis and their opinions matter because they are sports consumers. I can tell you how I think they feel and how I would feel if I were them. This the short view in the long view. The long view is that. Oh my God. This has been the greatest twenty year run and the history professional football no team with the same coach. Same quarterback I'm comfortable saying is ever going to win six super bowls in. Go to nine super bowls that that's just not going to happen again. So if your password takes the long view you have to recognize that. It's been a great era. It's over the team. Could still win a lot of games next year but they will not have. Tom Brady quarterback now the short view obviously is never want the good times and they have ended abruptly on maybe not abruptly if you kind of thought it might happen which I did but the fact of the matter is it is all new shiny and if you in following the Patriots since two thousand one or two thousand which is when he first joined. The team was playing. This is day reckoning. No y'all newest coming and we have to deal with it. Yeah I mean the the writing has been on the wall for a little bit now. We were all down in Miami for Super Bowl Week. When word came down that Tom Brady would become a free agent. How much of this was a surprise to you to me? It wasn't a surprise at all because he didn't get the multi extension last time around that he was hoping for and so there was always off in the distance. And I hate to keep using this word term and being into a pub. A day of reckoning Where he could declare free agency and Which automatically meant that from the end of the Super Bowl right up until where we sit right now that there would be endless speculation and rumor mongering and so forth and here we are well as you mentioned. Brady didn't get this multi year extension. He was looking for last year. Therapy reports for a couple of years about some tension between Brady and bill. Belichick did this whole thing breakdown. Simply because of money we will not know the answer to that in perhaps some questions until after the fact and that's not uncommon in sports you have sort of a clearing of the year of this guy. Goes that way. This guy goes this way and then several years down the road. Maybe several days more comes out and I do think it was about money. It is a business. It's a big business where people come and go and the guy you playing for now might not be around next year hence that destroys relationship. So I'm sorry that the Father Son dynamic between Robin Crap and Tom. Brady's fractured but decisions are at play here. And what do you say to fans who think that Tom Brady should have taken a pay cut to stay to play out the rest of his career at the Patriots? An you know. Bring up all kinds of questions about loyalty. I would tell that. Page standing ghosts right over there in their corner where there are five cheers so that you and the other four patriots fans that feel that way can sit together. That's my snarky way of saying that I think most patriots fans have made your peace That they understand. You can't cheer when Your Team Pirates of free-agent from another team and then when that Frisian joins your team cheer him up royally and then turn around in question the morals and ethics of your guy when he quits and goes to another team via free agency right. I know that being hypocritical. Part of being a sportsman. You're not supposed to be logical. I grew up as one and did the right thing. I booed the Yankees and booed. The Lakers and I believe the Montreal Canadians was. That's what I was instructed to do and so being a fan is being fanatic atic. And you don't have to adhere to logic and so forth. I may be proved Ron when these people marching on his house next week with torches and pitchforks but For the time being I believe the most pats fans understand what to play here. Well Steve we don't really need to go back and retail the whole story of a career that's been told a million times over the Patriots. Took him in the sixth round of the two thousand draft. He was the one hundred ninety nine. Pack all of that. But you did go back and looked at some old newspaper clippings from the time before Tom Brady became Tom Brady. What did you find? It was fascinating so he's in training camp in two thousand. He's like fourth on the depth chart. They've got drew bledsoe. Who's the starting quarterback and they've got John Freeze? Who's a veteran? Who kicked around with a different teams? Michael Bishop the flash young option quarterback who was exciting to watch in practice. And then. You've got this nice kid from California via Michigan Holding a clipboard. And it was funny. The the most reviewing clip I saw was a Kevin. Mannix was a very good sports right with the Boston Herald. The years he covered the Patriots and Brady got the plane. A preseason game in two thousand against Detroit. Lions out in Pontiac Michigan and of course he played it Michigan and they put him in for some place late in the game and the game was. It was really poorly played game but brady connected on the long connection. Shy Maury that put them down in field goal range. Lake military takes a veal. They win the game and Kevin Manic said. The most important play of the game was Brady completing that pass to save. This awfully played game from going overtime. My point being that the nicest thing that one could have said about Brady was that he was an antidote to seeing a lousy preseason game going overtime that was Brady's first big comeback play with the Patriots. He came a long way from that moment. Everything in New England in sports in the world has changed since Tom Brady took over. Can you talk about how he and Bill Belichick just one about completely? Transforming this patriots franchise well it. It turns into a chicken or the egg thing I mean did Brady become a great quarterback because of ballot check Belgian. Become a great coach because he had Tom Brady quarterback in the that's one for football experts and philosophers to get together in mall. Because I don't think there's a clear answer will we can. Safely agree on is that they arrived together at the right time in history. When you talk about Tom Brady you know there are just too many moments to go through. What sticks out to you as the most iconic brady moments I gotta go with that for Super Bowl. Victory the two thousand one season because I have the benefit of bringing history to what I write because born and raised in the Boston area. I follow the Patriots. I saw them play at Fenway Park and the Patriots are always or often a laughing stock. They were never going to be preeminent. Nfl Franchise but to see Brady.

"Their own guys. He is the greatest of all time. Not the best ever not in his peak is he better than anyone who ever lived but his overall resume his clutch ability the fact that he that he rose to actually fulfil what was largely kind of not hype but kind of overstated in the first half is great how she was when he just had to get him in field goal range from. Benetton to kick a field goal and win these close games. He actually became this amazing player in the second half of his career. He will find a home. I'm guessing it's going to be with the chargers we shall see. I think the torture is part of and the fact that I you know. I'm earning my money today because actually have to sit here for two hours. It's unbelievable it really really is but let me get back your nonsensical ridiculous stuff and be careful about warning me to go back to the tape. "On another network apparently Robert Kraft was watching this morning. And called the show during the commercial break. And told the people on that show. Like to be very clear. If Tom Brady wanted to stay, we worked it out, Tom. Brady wanted to leave. No he didn't. What he wanted was wide receivers and tight ends hidden leave. This is what's known as protecting the enterprise. By the way Bill Belichick. WHO's not a big? I'm going to release a lengthy. Pr. Sheet did this morning protecting the enterprise. Bella check went on to say. I'll just give you. The best lines. Tom Was not just a player who bought into the program. He was one of the original creators. He lived in perpetuated our culture on a daily basis. He was a tone setter in a bar razor. Tom And I will always have a great relationship built on love, admiration, respect and appreciation. Sometimes in life it takes time to pass the truly appreciate something or somebody. But that's not been the case with Tom. Special person in the greatest quarterback of all time. He finally said it. A COINCIDENCE! You're telling me there's a Lotta coincidences. Our after dig signs. Calls craft at the House. Bella check can't bring himself to give Brady a game ball. It was uncomfortable when he did it this year. And the reason craft and the reason. Bella checker doing this because Tom going to win this divorce in the short term. Tom's going to go to let's say. The chargers, five and eleven. You think they're going to be five and eleven Tom. I'm going to say no. He's going to go to Tampa Bay. With all those weapons, seven and nine think they're going to be seven nine with Tommy Know Tom's going to have better stats than last year. And the narrative is gonNA. Be in Belichick, knows it. Oh, hell! Tom had left stuff left in the take. Oh my God Keenan. Allen Mike Williams they may just re-signed. Melvin Gordon I'm told Austin et cler hunter Henry Tomstone throwing for forty eight hundred yards tubs, going to have thirty nine touchdowns in seven picks. Trade Turner solve the guard. They drafted left tackle. If he goes to. The chargers are to Tampa Thomas put up numbers baby. He's putting up. peyton manning Denver first year numbers remember that. They know it. Tom's witness divorced short-term now in seven years. Bella check may have and under Super Bowl. But when you know, you're going to lose divorce, you put on a happy face. Right. You know. Your wife leaves you. Start dating a stud you go to the gym hair feel great. Look at me, weights coming off. You know. New England no short-term. Tom's winning this thing. New England's got Jarrett Stidham. My bad, they may get Andy Dalton. They have no weapons. They have no quarterback. They have good running backs, not great as you saw last year when the line in front of them and the fullback was hurt. So when you know you're going to lose a divorce. Short term and I would argue new. England today quarterback tight end wide receiver worse weapons in the League I. don't even think it's arguable you tell me he was worse. Tom's going. He's going to Cherry. Pick the weapons. chargers have to be considered. Tampa Bay. On reading this morning. People are saying. The colts are out of it. Culture going to get Philip rivers. Why wouldn't he go to the colts? They have a weapon issue. Eric Hebron left running backs or be guys receiver one. He's going Tom's going to a place. That's got weapons. Could. Tom Tom will sacrifice a little old line. He's not going. He wants to go to a place and go. Oh Tom Got Lost Saas left. So when you know that craft calls a television show this morning during a break. And owner of an NFL team. I talked to the host. How often does that happen to anybody ever? Let's start with. It doesn't and work. Our way up. And then Belichick. He doesn't even know where the PR department is in Foxborough. He hasn't walked past it. They come to him this morning. He rushes into the office. Does a lengthy heartfelt love you? All coincidences. When you'RE GONNA, lose divorce. You hit the gym. Makes her words out. You're doing great finally. Got River. Look at me. Do what I want. All Right? There are options. and You keep telling me. I don't even know why I listen to you, people you keep telling me. The one place that's the best fit won't happen. I. Want to double down on it. You keep telling me. And I keep listening to you now.
