"Your call attendant at Santana T. A. N. N. A. F. on Twitter and talk to us about two is all it's it's a beautiful film that deals with a woman with bipolar disorder after she is released from treatment and she comes home to her to her farm in Iowa to grandfather's farm and help him live out his days and reconnect with her daughter it was a film that I produced half locally I'm I'm from Iowa originally and and got a crew in Iowa and the actors from Iowa and then I'm also Angelina as well so it was it was a great film to make directed by Ron been Yanni and with Tom Bauer and Riley bear do you want me asking do you or someone you love struggle with bipolar I am I do have family members with bi polar I I have a lot of mental health background both my parents were advocates of of nami and both served on the board of the north Iowa area transition center which was a facility that they help to create which took people from who are struggling with with mental health and and provided them with a way to to get counseling and and then get off the streets more last or if they were living with their families to get their families treatment and get group counseling and get them a place to live and then get them back working in jobs which which was a really cool childhood considering you know he would think coming from north Iowa I will there might be a stigma associated with with mental health but my mom actually was a nursing professor and and peas and and and psych and my dad developed a system in for all of north Iowa for the mental the mentally ill so that they could keep track of their their meds they're mad so monthly so I came from from pretty great parents and some pretty active parents with the mental health field in your parents please join us in Los Angeles or learn from that yeah I was I was sixteen thousand people those service and you said they were advocates of not not me what what exactly lined nationalized metals nami it and got it yeah yeah I know they they were there they were really great and and when I when I moved out to Los Angeles my mom and pursuing you know a career and and the arts my mom always sent me being with that the advocate that she is that nami stigma buster is which is like alerts which is which is always the national anthem mental illness calling out films which you know a lot of times in the media there is also often times the sort of unfair portrayal of mental mental illness you know you know I'm sometimes missed the trails of mentally ill being violent or being unpredictable or suggesting that they that mental people with mental health issues don't get better or it is a lot of a lot of different you know sort of the under prototypes but my mom always is sending you sounding like honey please make a film that that shows that you know the strength of behind or something positive by mental health and I you know and so I I sent out sort of as a homage to my parents because they just work so tirelessly to you know to help help mental health to create this film which showed a woman who who gets better with mental bye bye facing her her adversity through mental health by facing her her her all of the problems you know it it's a strength she is that she's it's sort of her quilting her phablet fabric that actually brings her family together verses it being something that she's sort of out of it you know thrown out of the community for brings her family together and she's she's this pillar of strength you know verses it being something bad or something you know that that is negative in a negative light you know for trade in a negative light so I I really worked hard the last it it was definitely a a smaller budget film but I pulled a lot of favors from I've I've been in LA now for nineteen years and and pulled a lot of favors and and got this film out we've been doing great with that we've been winning a lot of awards and since we we've been endorsed by nami which was which was a huge goal of mine and to you know get on that that nami list of go see this film this is something that shows that mental health is as something if you talk about it if you you know this is a character that by facing her adversity and her her challenges is is a stronger more beautiful human being you know which is which is you know just being a human being we all have the exactly we all have stuff something some a little more than a summer sicker than others we say but even so it's just part of the human condition I need take a break I was able to break I want you when we get back tell us a little bit of what some of the struggles word how would how it came to bear on the narrative and then what you did to make sure what you put on the screen was accurate okay you got it our action producer Tanner Frederick you can follow her at Tanah FTA and and after our numbers eight hundred two two two five two two two if you like to ask any questions yourself gives call there that same freedom doctor with this but they live in seven ninety KABC ABC dependable traffic right now north on one ten beat Maricel working in an accident here in a few minutes ago the right lane still taken away and he's found sixty eight seven earlier accident cleared "In the four ten, but we're going to take a pause for a moment as we have told you throughout this hour. Developing story southside of Milwaukee around south twelfth and west Dakota, avenues, three blocks south of Lincoln avenue officer involved shooting. Our own Melissa Barkley is unseen and joins us. What are you seeing out there, Melissa? Well, there is a lot of police activity right now, I'm on the corner up thirteenth street and Manitoba thirteenth street is a very very busy intersection here. I'm just seeing a lot of cars. Swing by. There is a happy days daycare across the street as well. I do not know if that's on lockdown, but I will check out that out into a little bit. But we're all the media is located here on matico, Ben thirteen we can see down the street. We can't get down there right now because it's blocked off with police tape. There is a cop car blocking the street as well. Again, police activity of life, and we're seeing quite a few police officers sort of mining the three right now again what we know. And what you guys have been reporting all morning officer has been shot your wealth into coda Milwaukee outside the officer has been taken to the hospital. Freighter hospital suspect is in custody. And again, we're awaiting that news conference coming up at eleven o'clock by again Manitoba and thirteenth because a lot of activity right now and waiting to learn more information on this story. Well, thanks. We'll keep we'll continue to have. You update us as you as that story developed so most of Barclay on scene at the scene of an officer involved shooting in Milwaukee. Here's what we know. Right around nine forty five warrant being served officer involved shooting. Neighbors reporting they heard shots fired officer injured we now know these transported here she was transported to freighter hospital when we are watching the monitors. We could see fairly quickly very large police presence on scene, and that continues to this moment. There are a lot of police vehicles. Lots of lights flashing is Melissa said, and frankly, the weather conditions aren't aren't that. Great. So there's a lot of ice on the road. So it's an area that makes sense to just keep people out of. But obviously, the bigger stories the safety of this police officer, and as I said earlier, we are supposed to be updated by Milwaukee police department and around eleven o'clock, that's usually a fluid time. We're also be joined by our own law enforcement public safety expert any short. She will join me in studio. We'll kind of break down what we're hearing from NPD at that time if we hear any latest developments, so the latest we know officer involved shooting southside of Milwaukee one of. Classic south side. Older homes looks like a duplex big front porch. Lots of officers and city officials in that area at this moment lights flashing some couple swat vehicles as well. And as I said as we heard from our own Melissa Barclay on-scene to give us the latest updates on that so she will be ready to gather any information that's presented at the eleven o'clock hour when police speak to the public about what is a sad day. Another sad day when whenever an officers involved in one of these shootings. Hopefully, we get good news on that. But we don't know the condition of the officer at this moment, we do know that a suspect is in custody custody, and that is a good thing at least at this point. So it's still very fluid Melissa's on-scene. We'll keep you posted on the latest developments throughout this hour throughout the day right here on WTMJ ten forty WTMJ continue to monitor the situation southside, Milwaukee officer hurts taken afraid that we don't know the Stasi officer. But there may be some news on that fairly soon. If you're on the south side right now. Now in seeing some of this. If you want to just give us a call in way in or if you have something you want to get off your chest on this is one of those moments that I think we're running into here. Four one four seven nine nine one six twenty is the phone number again. This is just the southside of Milwaukee, this is twenty Zelinski automatic district. I believe it's twelfth and Dakota. This is where this incident has taken place officer shot taken to the hospital, we expect to learn more about that situation. Very soon. A suspect said to be in custody with it four one four seven nine nine one six twenty if you're in that area, and you you wanna just just want to talk about this one. I I fear. This is not going to be a good day for the city. No walkie. Steve. No, I'm judging mean, we didn't see a lot of urgency early on. But there is a lot of police presence at this location vehicles. Tremendous number of of officials police officers there's some fire folks there as well. And you you said air could all started with a warrant being served. Correct. And that's how this all started. And somebody who's worked a lot of law enforcement over my public career. These kinds of calls are often the most dangerous when you're going to someone's home. You don't know what you're going to deal with when you get there domestic violence could be a part of this. You can always have some very dangerous people that are often armed in their own homes, which is a reality of the world we live in now. And for this officer take into freighters. Potentially could've could've taken a life. We don't know that yet. But from what we're hearing. It doesn't look good. You know, this is one of those cases too. I would urge if anyone ever gets the opportunity to do one of those citizen academies or to just kinda learn where you get to where you they do like real life working where you hold a gun, and you actually kinda learn and see what the officers go through and all that. I did one of those. Yeah. Well, tell me about that like that. It's amazing how quickly that happens. Right. When they set you up for that training. Yeah. So the way this is probably fifteen years ago. Now I deal with the Oakland police department. I'm a citizen of oak creek. And obviously, the mayor of okay at one point. So it was over a series of weeks. I think chief Tom Bauer was in charge back then now retired. And you go through every step of what it feels like to be a police officer, including what it feels like to be in a situation like this. And they you're not armed, but you have essentially a fake weapon, and that you're asked to make the same decision that a law enforcement professionals estimate, and it makes you nervous. Even in that setting. You can't even imagine the life and death situations with law enforcement folks have to deal with your heart is racing. You have to make sure that your you. You have several different things that you need to observe all at once. You have. No, you cannot trust anything that you see you have to present yourself in a way where you are prepared for any outcome any outcome. And the great thing about the market police department and most public safety officials as they have a lot of extensive training. But there are scenarios and situations. That are often outside that training that you can you can never know everything and things happen very quickly. It's why I was often get frustrated people second guess police officers, you know, with the benefit of slow motion video and all that stuff. They don't have. They don't live in that world. They're real time having to make split-second decisions and often they can turn tragic for themselves or for the people that they are chasing or are shooting at him. That's the reality of life as a police officer just an update you were gonna kinda scrub out the rest of this hour because we're going to stay focused on the story. Police shooting officer involved shooting southside of Milwaukee one of the classics outside Milwaukee homes that you see all throughout our community. A search warrant being served. Neighbors report shots fired schools in that area lockdown. We're still trying to get confirmation on which school. That was a couple of different reports officer at freighters don't have a status report on that. Yet. We are told that the Milwaukee police department will have a statement or. Public comment period around eleven o'clock. I know anti Schwartz is going to be joining us here shortly in studio with somebody who was a former NPD's spokesperson under chief Nathan Hager D, And I think a little bit for chief Flynn as well. She'll have a much better idea of what's going on right now within department and the community as someone who had the face some of these situations. So very volatile situation. Lots of urgency now on scene measured by number of personnel and vehicles. So the latest from that scene on the south side is that the scene is quieted. But we don't know the details on the officer who was involved in the shooting as as of this moment, seeing some pictures that are just they give you chills. There's someone in the area. Excuse me, a neighbor in that area. Who took a picture, I believe tweeted this out. I know TMZ four has a picture of it. It is it shows. Several members of the police department in prayer standing in a circle several I'm talking about at least a dozen of them all wearing their gear all in their tactical gear. They got the helmets on and they're circled around each other hands over each other's shoulders in prayer, it appears from this photo that took place shortly after this incident took place. Suggests the gravity of this situation where we may be headed with this story. I I am. I am noticing onscreen on today's teams. Eight four empathy is is report confirming there's no danger to the public at this month with a suspect in custody the officer at the hospital. So the incident is now starting to become more of an investigation than an actual fluid active seen, so we got a couple of things working here. We have our own most barklay from Wisconsin's afternoon news on-scene, she'll be gathering information. And and some audio. We have anti Schwartz who will come in studio with us. You was scheduled to come in at eleven anyway to talk about some other law enforcement issues, obviously, this is the breaking story as we kind of have thrown the four tenths to the side for a moment. This is the breaking story Milwaukee officer involved shooting on the south side, Melissa barklay near thirteenth in Manitoba. Just spoke with a daycare provider. Happy days daycare in that area. Can you tell me why if you sign anything.

And as I said as we heard from our own Melissa Barclay on-scene to give us the latest updates on that so she will be ready to gather any information that's presented at the eleven o'clock hour when police speak to the public about what is a sad day. Another sad day when whenever an officers involved in one of these these shootings, hopefully, we get good news on that. But we don't know the condition of the officer at this moment, we do know that a suspect is in custody custody, and that is a good thing at least at this point. So it's still very fluid Melissa's on-scene. We'll keep you posted on the latest developments throughout this hour throughout the day right here on WTMJ sent Forty-six BMW teams as we continue to monitor the situation southside, Milwaukee officer hearts taken a freighter. We don't know the status the officer. But there there may be some news on that fairly soon. If you are on the south side right now in in seeing some of this. If you want to just give us a call weigh in or something you want to get off your chest on it just this is one of those moments that I think we're running into here. Four one four seven nine nine one six twenty is the phone number again. This is just the southside of Milwaukee. This is Tony's Alinsky automatic district. I believe it's the twelfth and Dakota. This is where this incident has taken place officer shot taken to the hospital, we expect to learn more about that situation. Very soon. A suspect said to be in custody with it four one four seven nine nine one six twenty if you're in that area. And and you wanna just just want to talk about this one. I I fear. This is not going to be a good day for the city of Milwaukee. Steve, no, I'm judging and we didn't see a lot of urgency early on. But there is a lot of police presence at this location. A lot of vehicles tremendous number of of officials police officers there's some fire folks there as well. You said air could all started with a warrant being served. Correct. And that's how this all started. And somebody who's worked a lot with law enforcement over my public career. These kinds of calls are often the most dangerous when you're going to someone's home. You don't know what you're going to deal with when you get there domestic violence could be part of this. You can obviously have some very dangerous people that are often armed in their own homes, which is a reality of the world we live in now. And for this officer take into freighters. You know, potentially could've could've taken a life. Yeah. Tell me about that. Like that. It's amazing how quickly that happens. Right. When they set you up for that training. Yeah. So the way this is probably fifteen years ago. Now I deal with the Oakland police department. I'm a citizen of oak creek. And the mayor look at one point. So it was over a series of weeks. I think chief Tom Bauer was in charge back then now retired. And you go through every step of what feels like to be a police officer, including what it feels like to be in a situation like this. And they you're not armed, but you have such a fake weapon. And that you're asked to make the same decision that a law enforcement professionals estimate. And it's it's it makes you nervous even in that setting. Yeah. And the great thing about the Milwaukee. Department and most public safety officials is they have a lot of extensive training. But there are scenarios and situations. That are often outside that training that you can you can never know everything and things happen very quickly. That's why I was often get frustrated when people second guess police officers, you know, with the benefit of slow motion video and all that stuff. They don't have. They don't live in that world. They're real time having to make split-second decisions and often they can turn tragic for themselves or for the people that they are chasing. Or they're shooting at him. That's the reality of life as a police officer just updates. You were gonna kinda scrub out the rest of this hour because we're going to stay focused on the story. Police shooting officer involved shooting southside of Milwaukee one of the classics southside, Milwaukee homes that you see off throughout our community. A search warrant being served. Neighbors reports shots fired schools in that area lockdown. We're still trying to get confirmation on which school that was because a couple of different reports officer at freighters don't have a status report on that yet. We are told that the marketplace, we'll have a statement or. Public comment period around eleven o'clock. I know anti Schwartz is going to be joining us here shortly in studio with somebody who was a former NPD spokesperson under chief Nagy. And I think a little bit for chief Flynn as well. She'll have a much better idea of what's going on right now within department and the community as someone who had to face some of these situations. So very volatile situation. Lots of urgency now on scene measured by number of personnel and vehicles. So the latest from that scene on the south side is that the scene is quieted. But we don't know the details on the officer who was involved in the shooting as as of this moment, seeing some pictures that are just they give you chills there is someone in the area. Excuse me, a neighbor in that area who took a picture, and I believe tweeted this out, I know TMZ four has a picture of it. It is it shows. Several members of the police department. He in prayer standing in a circle several I'm talking about at least a dozen of them all wearing their gear all in their tactical gear. They got the helmets on and they're circled around each other hands over each other's shoulders in prayer, it appears from this photo that took place shortly after this incident took place and that suggests the gravity of this situation where we may be headed with the story. I I am. I am noticing onscreen on today's teams eight four mpg is is report confirming there's no danger to the public at this moment with a suspect in custody the officer at the house Mussa the incident is now starting to become more of an investigation than an actual fluid active seen. So we got a couple of things working here. We have our own Melissa barklay from Wisconsin's afternoon news on-scene, she'll be gathering information and some audio. We have anti Schwartz who will come in studio with us. She was scheduled to come in at eleven anyway to talk about some other law enforcement issues, obviously, this is the breaking story as we kind of have thrown the four tenths of the side for a moment. This is the breaking story Milwaukee officer involved shooting on the south side, Melissa barklay near. Thirteenth in Manitoba just spoke with a daycare provider. Happy days daycare in that area. Can you tell me why if you sign anything if you heard anything in the middle of having breakfast the kids have.
