Caregivers: Returning orca Lolita to Northwest is risky
"A plan announced last week to return a killer whale held captive for more than a half century to her home waters in Washington's puget sound as generated joy and concern. I Norman hall. 52 years after capture, orca Lolita may return to Pacific
"An unlikely coalition has a plan to return Lolita, also known as toki and orca that has lived in captivity at Miami seaquarium for more than 50 years to her home waters in the Pacific Northwest. It could take 6 to 9 months or even longer to move the 57 year old 5000 pound orca closer to where it's believed her mother still swims. The aquarium CEO Eduardo albor says his daughter told him Lolita needs to move. I feel so bad. I have to go around with cry. The honor of the Indianapolis Colts, Jim irsay, says this is very close to his heart. I know Lolita wants to get to free waters. I don't care what anyone says, she wants she's lived this long to have this opportunity. Charles vinick with Friends of toki says moving toki Lolita is worth the $20 million price. "We're all social beings. And i think you know i've taught students and they don't. They haven't missed the lectures but they've missed the activity around the lectures. You know the hanging around before the going in you know having a coffee afterwards. So that's social interaction. So i think it's behove in august and i it's that's a learning environment that kind of interaction is. What makes you part of a learning community. We learn more from each other than we do from from staring at the screen. But it's it's funny. You is johnny so you know you pulled that stuttle earlier about a large proportion of students in the surf. i sat. that didn't feel like missed out on any teaching course. What my also said was that they felt that missed out on a range of other things are directly connected to learning and one. Certainly one of my frustrations has been every time you michelle. Donald and talk. She will talk about the teaching and the social side as if the needs to things occur. And i'm not even toki clubs and societies. Say going for a coffee with the other paper on your course. I'm talking asking electric questions. I'm talking hanging out in the library and finding something you know all of that stuff that directly contributes to learning that. I've been teaching. Those quotes can sometimes get lost comet absolutely and i think i think what we need to do is university is to think about how the digital space the physical space company be combined to really maximize those opportunities for students. China lays out official stance on trade talks with U.S.
"Asian markets were slightly lower this morning following steep falls in the US on Friday. But one thing that's cheering investors a paper published by the Chinese government over the weekend. It signals that the country might be willing to take a more conciliatory tone when it comes to trade negotiations from Hong Kong. Quentin Webb has more choice over the weekend released sort of government white paper, laying out some of the position on trade tensions. And I guess there's something for everyone in this, because on the one hand the optimists point to a certain kind of moderation in the tone. So we have had some quite vicinity comments in the Chinese press and elsewhere, recently, where the tension seems to be amping up a bit. And this actually does all of detail spent in this paper sort of toki, Matt, how the US and China can work together in a spirit of mutual cooperation, and everyone can benefit, so. It does look a bit more conciliatory. But I should say as well as being something for the optimist here. There's something for the pessimist too, which is that they very clearly reiterate these three conditions that they say have to be met for.
