"The man that you trained under Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher. What does that mean? Everything. We do sort of channels through what we what we did. And when I worked there, I tried always refer to kind of something like he would do. Strange to believe that I've won something. He hasn't. I'm sure that won't last for long. But it means the world to me and just to be here on this stage in this moment for you. What are you thinking? Right? That's great. Wish my family was here. Rombauer wins it all. Medina Spirit finished third. The horse was able to enter the race despite failing a drug test on Sunday after winning the Kentucky Derby, Medina Spirit was cleared after passing three drug tests. Trainer Bob Baffert said the horse had been treated with an ointment that contain better method zone. And the days before the Derby. Todd Pletcher spoke to Marty McGee about what difference the drug really makes. I would say that level likely. None. Um, you know, it's Zod. Difficult. What The big focus is we want these horses to participate in the safe manner, and we want to reduce any any sort of injuries. We can so These air legal therapeutic medications that are helpful to the horse, but we can't get too close with them because they might actually mask something that needs to be detected. So it's a difficult balancing act. I think Actually, we made big strides in that, and there's a horse racing Integrity Act That's going on right now. The potentially in 2022. We could have been, you know, national Commission of sorts. So you know there's been some pushback from some people in the industry from that, but I think you know, after what we've seen the last week there might be added momentum. Straight talk wireless, no contract, no compromise. Speaking of momentum, plenty of NBA teams are trying to ride some of it as they wind down the regular season and lock up their spots in the postseason. Let's start with those New York Knicks taking on the Hornets. The Hornets went into the match up tied with the Pacers, but hold the tiebreaker for that eighth seed while the Knicks went into it as 1/6 seed in the East. Here is 98.7, ESPN, New York Five to shoot Randall against Washington between the legs step back along too good again, Julius Randle with 31. The Knicks take a three point lead with 4 28 to go. "Position to be in. Especially when you don't know so. I always feel blessed that i knew early age but i i like the competition. So i'd i'd have to think would have been in some sort of sports areas you know either to coaching or something like that but To 'cause i people ask me a lot of times you know what you enjoy about your job about horse racing and for me. I love the idea that the results are very concrete. You know like what you're doing is either working or it's not and you're gonna you're gonna know when you go to compete in the afternoon and so i enjoy that part of it You know having a goal and and seeing if you can achieve what we talked about so many of your big winds at least i kind of gave people a cursory overview of many of those big wins. Let's talk about a race that you have yet to end because this is preakness week and the one triple crown race. That's eluded you is the preakness bridled gave you that. First one coming up on saturday. What makes the middle jewel. So tricky and difficult to claim. Well you know. I think we obviously taking a lot of shots and the derby and and you know some of them long shots but we've also been pretty conservative when it comes to turning those sources around in two weeks with the for the preakness and i think it's one of the reasons why we had pretty good success in the belmont with three wins and six seconds and most of those horses ran in the derby and then we just kind of focused on on the belmont. Dhamma park is home for us. And it's to me side from the from the derby and maybe breeders cup races. It's it's one of my favorite racism and uh you know love preparing for to love the mile and a half challenge of it. And so i think not to slight the preakness. It's just. it's not one that we've really really focused on especially with belmont being. You know our home tracking. We're we're we live and where the kids grew up. And you know it's it's kind of a coveted race for for our family in sixty seconds or less todd why can unbridled honor win the preakness on saturday. Why i think brought a launer could win the preakness if gets a favorable pay setup and now he's the horse the doesn't get involved really early on but he has a good closing kick it. They'll go fast enough and come back to him a little bit. I think he will handle the mile. Three sixteenths any will be finishing up well so leeds needs to get a fortunate trip and he needs to. He needs to get some pays to run out. I liked his last last work. At churchill before we came to new york to worked in company with promise keeper who was able to win the peter pan and You see very strong about work so hopefully. That's a good sign all fame trainer. Todd pletcher here. On trainer talk presented by facebook tipton. Top can't thank you enough for the time. You're always very gracious and Appreciate it congratulations on all your success on.

"I. I think the one thing. I've always said that's that's great about our business. Is you get to share a lot of a lot of things with with the family and they can come to the races and let it can go to the derby's and so that that's always terrific but on the flip side of it. There's a there's a lot of sacrifices. I'm sure there isn't any any industry that requires a a lot of work. And so you you miss. You miss a lot of events and things that That you wish that you could be in two places at one time. But the one the one thing that blessed with as my wife Tracy is very devoted. Mother and and Terrific mom. And so i was never never in a situation where i i needed to worry that the kids were getting everything that they needed. And and more so you know that that from that perspective. We really really good team. You settled your first winner. In january of nineteen ninety six that was at gulfstream. A horse by name majestic number. There have been so many top name horses and big wins sense. That moment i asked you about the people that you're going to have to try to remember when you put together your speech. How about how about the horses. When you think back on your career that are always gonna stand out to you. Yeah i mean i. I said this last week when they were when they were asking me. I mean there's there's so many horses so many big races so many big moments but I really felt like the two worse that that help. Get my career going more so than than any others. Were more than ready in jersey girl. No more than ready was sort of the first course that we had there was a great at stake. Worst he was a brilliant two year old and and you know he grabbed headlines. And so i. I think dot really helped and then jersey girl was our first grade. One winner and and Kind of show that that we could compete at the highest level. So i always felt like those two really got our career going them and so they were special. And you know. I've always said that rags to riches. Winning madama honest is still my my favorite win and and it's just such an exciting race literally everything that can happen in a race from the stomach. The star to stretch long duel and for me to to defeat a horse of kirwan's ability level in a classic race and be our our first classic win. Just you know so. Many emotions that went through during that that mile and a half raised that Just a so so exciting. I was really really hoping that always hoping she would have been inducted into the hall of fame already but when she kind of been skipped over for a few years as i thought it would be fitting if maybe she'd get enough votes this year but i'm still hopeful that She'll actually like. I certainly think she she deserves it. I don't think there's any doubt that you'll find her name in there someday. that race i remember. We broadcast that race on a national radio and it was one of the shining moments of my broadcasting career. Just to to the. Tom durkin call the effort that she put in. It was what horse racing is truly all about. Isn't it absolutely. I mean i think it it. It captured everything that you you know that you enjoy about. Orcher isn't so. If i were to walk into todd pletcher house and i'm always curious with somebody like yourself todd. That's one so many big races. Ben around the horse's what are some of the things that i'm going to see from a memorabilia standpoint. Maybe some of your most prized possessions. If you will. I think most of it Most of it is Trophies and photos and and you know. I know that sometimes people come over and look and say you know why. Why do you have all these older voters up when you have newer winds and to me. It's like the ones back then or the ones that you want to go back and and and look you know. There are twenty years ago twenty five years ago but And then we have a a painting in our dining room that that The accurately brothers had made for for mike smith and i of jersey girl and So a lot. I love that painting and it's a it's a really well done and captures how beautiful philly she was and then in our saratoga dining room we. We actually called out the jim dandy dining room. Because they're gonna go with seven. Wins in the jim dandy and all of those win photos in there so Yeah just you know. I think you're traditional memorabilia trophies and win photos and a few paintings also in that dining room we have a really lovely photo of of keisha electron admits a head shot. But it's a really cool. But the the angle he was just the ways you standing and You know so. He's a horse. Like that is is one that that probably wouldn't make most people's list of the best sources that we've had but in some ways you know he was. We really enjoyed having that worse and you know what he was able to accomplish after claimed him was a lot of fun trust. Will you ever go back and watch replays of some of your big winds or some of the horses that that really stand out to you. Will you just go back in the evenings. Maybe some time and start watching replaced ever do that. I tell you one that. I go back in and every once in a while. You need a little pick me oboe. Go back and watch uncle booze. Breeders cup juvenile and It's it's it's so impressive to watch because you can just see when he when he comes off the turn and you can literally just see him drop to another level. Just extend away from the you know from the field and and Trevor finland's call and they'd be says an john velazquez point in the right direction is every once in a while. You'll pick me up. I'll do something like that. You don't think todd pletcher needing a pick me up from time to time. But i guess there there's time all i am. You always need a pick me up for sure. Todd pletcher here on the horse racing radio network down to about the final five minutes tied and i wish we had another two hours to spend together because there is so much that we could continue talking about but one thing i want to ask you as you said in the beginning of the interview. You said that you were glad that you pursued training horses as a profession. Because you didn't think you'd be good at anything else. What if you didn't do this. What else do you think you might end up. You might be doing right now. That's a great question. Like i said i. I know having kids that are that are at that age where they're starting to try to identify. Maybe what you know. They're really gonna do for their career. I mean it's such.

That concerns are just no way that i can think everyone who deserves to be appreciated. During you know speech. I think is supposed to last five minutes or so so you know trying to figure out how to balance it out and certainly want to you know. Take think the people like job who are not here. i can't say in person but You know also wanna make sure everyone who deserves recognition gets it and certainly don't want to leave anyone else. I'm trying to trying to determine how to balance that out. And i take one ways to try to think a lot of the people in person that i have the opportunity to so disney with hall of fame trainer. Todd pletcher on trainer talk presented by phasing. Tipton todd shortly after we launched this show in two thousand twelve. You were kind enough to spend some time with us. I'll never forget that program. You talked about finding time to balance your training obligations in your family. Life finding time to go to soccer games those types of things if you will how have you been able to to find that balance and make it all work for for such a long period of time. Well to be honest with you. I probably gonna get a job with it as as i would have liked to. And that's one of the things you reflect back on when you have children. Now that are that are in their twenties and daughter handling eighteen and graduating high school in june. And so you know literally in the blink. And i it's china they're just their childhoods are over and they're young adults and getting jobs off to college and so no i. I think the one thing. "Play. What would have happened if you send me in a different direction or said go to california or go to arlington or whatever you know. There's probably a number of different ways. It could have fallen but to work out that way to to go to new york and to get to work for jeff was just you know it was. It was a tremendous break for me. Because i can't think of anyone who's had more of an influence on my career job in terms of he was just such a great coach and he was. He was a strict disciplinarian. He wanted things done a certain way. And you had to make sure those things were were down the right where he was going to call you out on it and it just you hear a lot of times. Athletes will say you know. Particular player brings out the dust and another player. I think jeff had that ability to bring out the best and people that work for them and and you know wayne was a huge part of that and he was in later on after jeff at his unfortunate accident. I spent a lot more time working with wayne. But you know the. I like three years or so. Was this really heavily influenced by by jeff. During six months of the year and then carry. Mclaughlin was the main assistant during the other six months of the year. Belmont so i mean. I got to work under two guys that had any tremendous horsemen also had different types of personalities and so was able to learn from tarran who is just such a great people person. And he he the way he communicated with wayne and jeff the owners and so just i just tried to to pick up on you know whatever i could from those guys and and so like i said i was fortunate to apologize to a great situation. Young great comments and a great remembrance. Their of jeff. Lukas in you mentioned his unfortunate accident. He's no longer with us now but quite often todd. We'll talk about how a coach or even a boss in that respect can be very difficult on an individual. If they see something in them that they think is special because they want to do everything they can draw that out of him. You talked about jeff's approach and how he was very strict in maintaining that operation in teaching you. Do you think that maybe kind of sense that there could be something special with todd. Pletcher you know. I don't know. I know that we we got along well and You know i think. I think we had a good relationship and and So you know. I think he know perhaps saw that. I had potential to develop into you know possibly an assistant trainer at some point. I don't. I don't know if felt strongly beyond that but that i definitely felt like you know at least thought i had enough potential to try to continue to vote me to move up within the ranks in the organization and So it was Like i said. I mean it was new us. He was great all the way round. He's really good with condition book and would was ruined to talk to me about things like that and decide tried. Tried to not only do the best job i could for him. I also was always trying to learn more and ask questions and and you know. Try to understand why certain things done a certain way still about three months or so away from the actual hall of fame induction saratoga springs. Have you started to formulate any thoughts or jot down any notes as to what you might want to include in your speech when you stand up there. Yeah i have you know. I've thought about.

"Remember having the thought maybe even a little before. I told her that the you know. I like what my dad's doing. I love going to the barn. And you know i think that's ultimately what i wanna do and and so i never really said it until it goes. I was eleven or twelve and she asked me. I was sort of like testing to see what her reaction was going to be in and You know she. She was elated. She said i think that would be terrific and So once i had her endorsement you know and obviously my dad was training at the time. And so i had his support and endorsement as well and pretty much never looked back from there. I never thought about doing anything else. thankfully because they're probably gonna been good or anything else so but Yeah i mean it's fortunate just to be up to two parents that they really care about what i was gonna do and once. I decided that they did everything they tried to to help me help me get into position to potentially succeed. Talk about the impact that your dad had on you. Not just as a young man but as a horse trainer well yeah. He was a you know he did very well. He was He was a success successful trainer in the mid west. He was a successful quarter horse trainer before that so You know. I think as a youngster i i would try to to the barnum with him every weekend day. I didn't have school. And and i think you you go out there and you're you're learning even though you're not really aware that you're learning. You're just sorting. I was walking horses or helping treat or you know just depending on how old i was. How much responsibility. I can have and But but you as you're going even though maybe the ones you know directly teaching you per se. But you're just absorbing things and picking up a lot of things as you go along so that i worked for him long enough that i kind of learned his system but he also pointed me in the right direction. You know when. I got a little bit older when i was sixteen. I spent a summer with henry marina. Who's a good friend of my dad's and our family and things first trainer in southern california circuit. So i spent some then. I spent a summer with wayne lucas and another summer with charlie wittingham and all of that was on. You know my parents advise you try to get out there and learn from some other people and see how they do things and try to absorb as much as can take with you as much as you can and so Those were not only great times but great learning experiences. I'm glad you mentioned some of those folks to because nobody gets to this particular level without being surrounded by good people and having good people to learn from and i know that you're extremely busy with the day to day operations of your business and this has only been out there for about five or six days now the news of the hall of fame but have you taken time over the past week or so to reflect on some of the people or most of the people who have helped you reach this amazing milestone to be honest. Know kinda wants Once i was a nominee start to start to reflect on a lot of that. And i've had some really nice calls and messages from former assistance and and plenty of other people that have worked with have trained horses for and to spend a really long list of of uh congratulations from different people that Were were very very supportive through you know helping help you get to this point and So you know some ways. It's amazing how the wayne lukas trainer tree kind of continues to expand and expand. And so i guess. I'm getting old enough now that i have a bit of a at least a branch of my own and You know it all kinda comes back to a lot of guys that have worked for winter or have been associated with that program. Some way i can remember sitting down with wayne at saratoga. A few years back for this particular show and jude fell. I spent an hour sitting in his office with them talking about his life in his career but when he talked about all of his assistants that have gone out and made a mark on the sport. It he's he's almost like a proud father when when he talks about you and kieran and mark hannigan people like that that have done so well. How do you describe wayne lucas. And the impact that he had on on your overall career. But you know. I i just. I was so fortunate. The way dame's fell into place when i was a senior in college at the university of arizona. I think some sometime around january. Or so i went out to santa anita and that would wade told that i'd like to get to work for them and when i graduated college so we kind of had a somewhat of an informal interview and he said you know you can. You can count on the job when he graduates. Call me when you call me when you graduate and we'll We'll figure it out then. So i called him and told them i was ready to get a worked and he said okay wanted you jodi belmont and you can work for. You can work for my son. Jeff there and i oftentimes.

"You know. I've been kind of looking at the kirby results and you know the thing that you know that kind of stands out to me is that you know the top three finishers all had very good trips. I mean particularly particularly the top. Two and i you know i. I'd love to see medina. Spirit go under more greatness but boy he he's he he won't get a setup like that again and i thought i thought one of the interesting aspects of the race. You know if you looked at horses who might have been speed in this race midnight. Bourbon speed at the fair grabs watch raise. I mean he broke sharply. And then mike smith just wrapped up on him and he never got into the into the thick of it and medina spirit was Oh i mean it wasn't like he was setting tepid pace of you know all by himself but he you know he had as unpressured a An early lead as as you can reasonably hope for and nineteen dollars kentucky. Derby i just don't i just don't see him the the competition Letting them get away without at pimlico. So it I think we're going to have a different kind of race. I don't I don't disagree at all and some of this. Some of this reminds me of Of the specifically midnight bourbon reminds me of ox bows exploit as well From from a few years ago that He also was piloted by an aging veteran. Jock was gary. Podcast on wednesday laid out by reasons. They they turned out to be right. Explain explain to everybody what what appealed to you about. You know andy. Serwer like mutual friend talks a lot about horses past performances. Since well this this is all dressed up or this horses a little dirty up. Meaning that the horses last race makes him look either better or worse whitney really as well in the case of medina spirit. I thought the you know the his his loss in the santa anita derby which led most people to throw him out was Was was not a true bill. I mean i watched although the dirt races on that card closely every dirt also six dirt. Races were won by a horse Either on a leading all the way on the rail or who had a rail trip much of way and You know rock your world benefited by getting loosen. The lead on the rail medina spirit was was parked out at least three wide all the way around the track so if you drew a line through through that race and look at look at his record otherwise it was pretty good. He never finished worse than second figure of ninety nine which was as good as anybody else and He had You know the world's greatest trainer court or so You know. I i thought all also that you're not only stafford a great trainer but he is just one one of the few want people who really embraces speed and Recognize how important. It is and i felt confident that that he was he would have this source going to the lead so it it all added up and Work worked out Right according to script..

But it's not the kind of his hot add races can't keep that off exchange well and part of that and that actually gets back to what we referenced earlier. Exactly right all the time you could ask the ages the best people will be. The worst is get good information and everything. It doesn't mean it's gonna be good. It's good over. Time is going to do well. But they're going to be bad periods of course of course fascinating. But it's also that'll be a lotta high-pressure that there's no doubt about it That that's That comes with the territory. It's this is a. It's a high wire act todd. He's got so many stallion standing act number. I think he wouldn't podcast. Let's only like one seventeen as he said no. Some of them are standing in obscure places for you know it's not like he's benefiting financially from all of them but number they're standing but as a trainer you start getting saudis because the number of stallions are how many times you look at your old races and go. There's eight horses in here and four of them retired by horses. Did todd pletcher trained correct. And you know that's where you're gonna you're gonna get success and you get a new. Andy and you know we always have these conversations where you kind of try to tie everything up and put a bow on on the year. We actually did a little bit of that last week. as you you're coming to the end we had that visit with with tony oliva. That was fun to talk about. The end of the broadcast season It was you know despite everything. It was a very good year in new york racing. Yeah i wouldn't do that strange. Everybody in every everything. I agree you know. I think it's very good. Job was about people to get into to get going forward. Continue to race and you know we went saratoga which a lot of people Disagree with. They turned out to be completely wrong. Quickly went there for the right reasons. An important reasons turned out to be very successful than in every possible. Way and Yeah no. I agree especially racing in of itself. It was a good year for the industry Which is something. we can't always say. Yeah through racing. And i agree. Funny i just this morning I started organiz. My my information that i'll use For the eclipse voting. And the first thing i print that out was the list of great one Stakes wins. And i actually just like i use it as a resource a as a reference tool going forward and it's just nice to have it at hand when you go back wanna look and that's i'm looking down as you were talking a- the saratoga grade one results and quite a few of the Predictably quite a few of the greatest moments on the racetrack this year. came During the during the saratoga mean i suppose the one you know the one bittersweet element is that there weren't thirty five thousand thronging the joint you know to enjoy them but Swiss skydiver anticipate law and the test and seren getty empress Unbelievable what were your highlights for the year. What what racist stayed with you. We'll stay with you. Do you think that'll hold the test of time. That's a that's an odd question. Because i don't i mean i think all the words you mentioned read that extremely well I i think you know sarah. The empress besides vaccine rams such a race to win by the feel bali. Someone in question Just the back brunswick. Tom would erase like that are pretty cool. Those things are always extra special but Yeah i mean comedian was sensational and she proved to be as good a worse for the racetrack. As we saw year visit the long ago. You know he sort of fell apart after that a little bit but has time to redeem themselves and i think he will He was very good and travers trying to Pablo came in one. The whitney it was a real race marred by by com stay top stumbling at the start on the last improbable at a very good year. He was legitimate. Where of it Swi- skydiver who was one of the really good stories of the entire year in some ways one of the best stories of the entire year. Sumer when i bought the vaccinations being the may be soon as a really exciting race. You i wanted to go about. It was the navy had gotten a little bit overrated. The debate about her race churchill where she ran so significantly slower than Than times they talked it in When thomson top one the foster that I think you know for losing decide actually ran a very the race deep. But i think you know it's a little bit of an answer to a question in the people out there that makes stupid comments timely batters in jail and that had crap So i cut by that at least five those sort of firstly satisfied in reality. But i'd be very well on the ran. Well one to great wants to. Jackson had new yorker share. A lot of people saw him some successes here so he was sort of being name on. The scene on that regard was always good to have new people being successful other than that. I thought was just good racing throughout the year. The weather was pretty good for us. When we raised our serotonin aqueduct belmont even and so yeah of racing on the. I don't know that. I think is really stand out the calm a little bit forgotten and understandable since you didn't run after a july still in very well the carter the net will ios races. Now he's always a worse. Unfortunately it was beset by issues. I don't know it's somehow related to sort of odd running style you know. It's hard to imagine they're completely Mutually exclusive regardless virtually gordy sources with transplant. How just couldn't stand the racetrack and pretty much was denied. A chance to run as much as he could. And based on the racist he ran when he's on track. Obviously he could've done some really good things to drag that say sound and unfortunately it didn't i don't think he's a very reasonable candidate for for sprinter of the year. You know it'll go to wit more. Because.

Can any long shots stun Tiz The Law at Ky. Derby?

"All right. Jody Delhi is going to give us the odds on the Kentucky Derby race. Of course we've heard about is the law. Everybody's liked his. The law is the law. Well, there are other horses in the race. Right, Jody? That's right. Says the law is 45. This is current odds right now. They just opened the windows this morning. Ah, 25 minutes ago. This is current odds. Tis a law fortified. And then there is a pretty good distance between him and the next horses. And the next course is there's actually a pretty good distance of who are a pretty good racer. Who's the second choice right now. It would be Santa Anita Derby winner Honor AP at 8 to 1 Authentic, though, is 9 to 1. That's Bob Baffert horse who won the Haskell Tendo one Bob Baffert horse 1000 words Who won the shared beliefs. So you've got those horses? Ahh, right there. All four vying for second choice in the Derby. Let's run from the inside, post position out. We'll give you all of the odds here. A CZ. We go through it finish the fierce. The number one horse, The one eyed gilding has been scratched. He is not running in the race number two Max player, Ricardo Santana Jr. The jockey, Steve asked. Musa is the trainer Max player. Is down. 18 Toe one. He was a morning line. 30 to 1. He's back. He's been bet. Pretty good. So far enforceable. Adam. The skits of the jockey Mark Cassie is the trainer 23 to 1 down a little bit from 30 to 1 in the morning line. Storm. The court who was the breeder's Cup juvenile champion last year, Julien Les Peru is the jockey Peter Kurten is the trainer 26 to 1, Major fed James Graham and Greg fully 34 to 1. They were 50 to 1 in the morning line. Number six. King Guillermo has been scratched. Money moves. This is the one that is interesting to me. Money moves from Todd Pletcher, making just his fourth career start. Was a 32 1 in the morning line and is getting bet. Heavy. Todd Pletcher's Horse Down 15 to 1 South Bend. I don't think all the Notre Dame Ah money has come in yet on South Been 34 to 1, Tyler Gaffney, Leone and Belmont trainer. Mr Big News. Gabriel Sias trainer Brett Calhoun 47 to 1 number 10,000 words as we said 10 to 1. Number 11 Necker Island, who, by the way will have his blinkers off, so he's been running with blinkers on in his last few races. He will not wear blinkers today 51 to 1 Miguel Mania and Chris Hartman is the trainer. Soul a Valon Day. Patrick being cone Lucas Panici is the jockey Volonte 29 to 1 attachment, Right, Dale? Romans 49 the one I thought that he would actually get a bet down. I'm a little surprised that that one winning surprise winning impression is no surprise. He is 52 to 1, the longest shot on the board. Dallas Stuart and Joe Rocco. In the irons, New York traffic 15 to 1, Paco Lopez and Saffy Joseph is Ah Ah, actually, I think he's gonna end up being like the third or fourth choice when it's all said and done. Probably a little bit of a buzz horse here out here among the horseman Honore P. 8 to 1 in the 16 post position with Mike Smith. John Sheriff's is the trainer. Tis the law 4 to 5, Manny Franco and Barclay Tagg. An authentic on the outside Bob Baffert 9 to 1 John Velazquez in the iron, So there's your Kentucky Derby odds for right now and again betting is open. And we've got a bunch of our hot We have 30 minutes to the first post 31 minutes right now to the first post long time before we get to the Kentucky Derby, So a lot of money will be bet on there, Terry.

Dr Post's Rider on Unbridled Win at Gulfstream

"He is yet another late developer who may benefit quite a bit from a delayed and revamped triple Crown Dr Poster respond to urging size all over him with the tax rate top of the lane on the outside attack. But right from between Dr Post Doctor Post now up for the lead attack rated second let there be no doubt doubters best. It's Dr Post Uneven. Money winner that win. At Gulfstream in the ungraded unbridled stakes was the first time Dr Post had run a mile or longer. He'd run into sprints before that winning one this year and finishing fourth in his debut at Belmont Park last July and while his sire quality road one multiple graded stakes at a mile and an eighth doctor posts never wanted longer than seven eighths of a mile. So I'm pretty sure that when trainer Todd pletcher and owner Vincent Viola learned that the Belmont stakes would be shortened from a mile and a half to a mile and an eighth. They were probably not to dismayed. Dr Posts next start might come in the Belmont and Soda Talk About Him to talk about the return of racing in New York and other related topics we welcome in the gate. The man who has the best seat in the House to watch Dr Post his rider the two time defending clips award winning writer Iran Ortiz Junior. Tell us about all that. He overcame in winning that race at Gulfstream. Well he John Hord. I is learning by racist Green Green. Like I'd have to stay on him and but he everything's good in the behin. He wasn't bitching horses. I gotTA using monitor be to keep their then. Golly talk was the intimidate. Then we get through then. What getting now because he was seeing the horse. And what's more comfortable for me to start going because I can ride then. Finally when he gets. Put THE HEAD IN FRONT. You just take off like he got some work. Your go no yet can be a nice sort down the road will. You've said that when he grows up a little mentally it'll help him now. What shows you that. He's not yet mature in his mind. Not You know not Betty Serious on the do can feel it when do right. We'll fill their own horses. Datum care they. When went to go by you look him? He's like drifting earlier so that mainly feel he's agreement. Nothing happen you just follow. Whatever I went through you know you raised it said Anita on Memorial Day you've run at Gulfstream and Churchill and will soon be returning to New York. How difficult is it to go through the testing process at each track to be cleared to come in and race? It better for you know like that's thing. I just really like three or four times. It's not too bad for me and I'm happy because like that. I'm okay to see my family. You know after I check from other also. I'm Don T my baby so I'm glad they do. Post Time: Fountain of Youth is leap day for Derby hopefuls

"Happy Fountain of Youth Day. Thank you thank you starting early today for so eleven. Thirty fourteen racist today so should be a good one. I don't know if people think chancellor card yet but I mean it's just stacked start to finish so we're we're gearing up for a day. How's the weather down there today? Good conditions it's great It was very breezy and on the chilly side yesterday. Obviously not Florida are rolling their eyes at US saying that it's cool but it feels different when it gets colder down in Florida will definitely say that. But it's gorgeous. Today it's going to be low. Seventies son is out a little bit less windy than yesterday as well. Let's start with the Fountain of Youth. That will be the final of the fourteen races on this Saturday program. Twelve horses are entered. There was some conversation about chance it potentially coming out because of the outside post position As of just a little bit ago I think he is still in so some decisions yet to be made but twelve horses set to go. How did you see this one? Yeah he is still and he does have until forty five minutes before the race as is the protocol for Great. It's so he's got some time There was one scratch just of the number two horse in there but This is a tough race chance. It's been really impressive. And Ultra talented and and obviously Fun Horse to watch down here but I did go with the Horse. That actually finished second to him in the Home Watch. Oh man and that is as you know on. Tv For Kelly Brian. I just thought that this course who I had not actually seen him physically before leading into that last race and he really showed me. Both in the flesh needs performance that he was the type that could handle the stroud and distance effectively. I think he's drawn well and he's going to be really tough. Obviously done this moment. It's going to take a lot of attention. Chance it as well and those are some good horses but I'm GonNa land on as seen on TV seen on. Tv Ninety two on the morning line has been extremely consistent. You mentioned the forest arts. Two wins two seconds and that runner up in the mutual macho man last time to to under pokka. Lopez here this afternoon. I'd like to spend more time talking with you about some of the other contenders but in the interest of time here this morning. Let's move on to the race. For the three year old girls we don't want to neglect the phillies The Dow is race number ten one mile on the main track. It will go right around that four o'clock eastern time. Yeah this is an exciting race. You've got tunnel shape city outside Saffy. Joseph's junior has obviously really burst onto the scene this year with the likes of math wizard and then of course potential Derby contender and Chan said and he's also got affiliate that Again is undefeated and turned out to be the first graded stakes winner for Tony. Lists and sire and she even though she's been so impressive it does kind of feel like even in this race that she still has a little something to prove. It'll be interesting I think that the race really revolves around the todd. Pletcher Philly in spices nice. I mean she was just a monster in her debut and I spoke to todd yesterday and he said that she was the phillies but they obviously really had high hopes for given the purchase price and her breathing out of the Dorsey and she not only showed up in her debut. But I watch pretty much all of her recent workouts at Palm Beach downs and I spoke to todd about this too and that she's been training for the most part with some of the really highly touted colts and his part including the point. Who was really well tipped out market analysis. Just some very talented horses. That have won first time out. And she's been training with the colts. A Lotta Sense. Kinda dwarfs inside too. She's a very very big Philly but she has a nice way of moving and they taught it said that was a way of them kind of testing. Just how good is she? And she's really responded to retest. Yeah that I start. She dominated her maiden race on January twelve. She won by twelve ran away from the field. That probably could have been more if they wanted it to be. That was at the same one mile distances. Today's Dimona del Was there a obviously? She was the favourite that day ACACIA but was a palpable buzz around spices. Nice when she walked into the paddock that day there was and you know she would not necessarily be the type of horse that I would pick out in a lineup Just face off of you know looks for a Horse. That would win first. Came out like I said. She's very big she by curl and She has kind of a long stride along next to her and I thought that she was going to win. But I was almost wondering puts. You need a race which you need to turn. And she's just so talented that she was almost kind of able to overcome. Maybe not looking like the precocious sharp I out type of winter so I thought that was really interesting as well. And and obviously this is going to be a tougher spot going right into graded stakes company but think that she is really one of the box. Office potential superstars on the undercard today. And I'm excited to see her. I also use underneath though in Second. I use five reluctant bride. Who I think is good and I like her switching to stay. She's got dirt pedigree and I spoke to Patrick the cone the other day and he said he tries a lot of his horses that he thinks are good. On the turf I F. A. Indian and sold allante being perfect examples and He says he thinks it's an easier trip. And then you switch them to dirt and that just might be where they're most comfortable and that's what he's doing with this one today who just closed so impressively in her first race. And I think that she's got some ability to talking with ACACIA. Courtney from Gulfstream Park here on the Horse Racing Radio Network Again Fountain of Youth Day Fourteen races. We have time to look at one more case you have about a minute or so. Just over that for we have to get to the next segment The Gulfstream Park Mile is race number. Twelve another big field. Eleven horses entered one mile on the main track. And this is a very interesting race gear. Mclaughlin had to including Hi Collin true. Kimber I really like hike. Second also layoff. I think he's GonNa be a big improvement for him today. And I think that it's kind of always flies under the radar is how Creek Hustle. He's actually my top picks some paddock school the other day for Vicki Foley. I think he's actually going seven furlongs. One Turn My. Oh which is what he gets today. just a side note. It's the treat to see Pegasus World Cup runner up MR freeze back. And he'll turn back and distance as well for for Dale Romans who could potentially have a big day. Yeah it could be a huge day for Dale and ACACIA. Has a very busy day ahead of her. So we'll let her go. Acacias squeezed me in this morning. I appreciate you taking a few minutes. Go enjoy the rest of the day and we'll talk soon. Thanks for being here all right. Thanks guys take care. She's the best Acacia Courtney. The little a here on the horse racing radio network do miss having her with us on the network but she's doing good things down there Gulfstream and on some of the other national. Tv

It's appropriate to really embrace holy or dismissable chemical weird to me Amesbury too good arrays for one hundred fifty listed but. I don't know that it was like southwest. "AAC winning his first classic and for owners Mike Polian then viola and their air families ver- rat Ortiz capita really a spectacular breeders cup for him as a writer and it was a wonderful moment until you realized what was going on up stretch and I it it from certain parts of the racetrack obviously you weren't immediately aware but as to the performance ask to the feature of a weekend of features the Breeders Cup classic ended up really being dominated by an authentic second mile and a quarter horse that was absolutely perfectly brought along for the opportunity by Todd pletcher came out here won the Gold Cup that I think it will continue to be the obvious template it was what drew me to him and the subsequent performances even when needed win or when he got take a down of course in the Jockey Club Gold Cup basically maintained his presence as along with Mackenzie who always tries dried heart again uh-huh stiff west fifth of the year out of seven starts in two wins a doesn't do that much wrong mile and a quarter just perfect distance obviously but veto Rosso frankly even the kids even if you say Mackenzie was quite adequate going a mile and a quarter well he wasn't beating Vino Rosso on Saturday that that was apparent looking forward to talking to todd pletcher who the probably probably dried at least six maybe five six sources in the in the classic I think of Flower Alley right second uncle Mo tried it and he certainly wasn't don't really at the time anyway a mile and a quarter horse quality road quality road certainly probably a half a dozen before before winning one and really adding a a stripe that was absent on his resume Chad Brown augmented his remarkable resume whether it's really cups or not he particularly and of course this was is where he started his run and really started to rise to prominence when Moran won his first First Breeders Cup race bricks and mortar most likely your horse of the year Brill at a wonderful story one of those stories that that needs to be trumpeted where a horse that was sidelined needed surgery for circulatory katori issue missed over a year and turned in this pristine campaign robbing in the late stages robbing Richard Mandella of one hundred dollar winter fifty unbelievable united fifty to one rant spectacularly and just thus corral admit had been looked bewildered he had a smile and his eyes were wide he thought that he was going to he he knew Omaha beach wasn't winning but when it came to the dirt mile it was obvious that spun to run was going to hold him safe but the he thought that that he was bringing a monster up said in the tariff only to have bricks and mortar get up let's Chad's I turf win then of course uni in the mile the two phillies the Philly and mayor we should say one two in the mile how `bout Voor Bay on on that topic Gary Barber and Peter Miller we'll talk to Peter in this hour who is just dominant minute in the turf sprint his third turf sprint win in a row stormy liberal who you knew was coming in at less less than the level he sustained for two straight years but Belvoir Bay Delaware Bay who was was right was lost the Saint Louis Ray mayhem wonderful moment for Gary Barber and his family and and came very close to winning a second race later in the day when God stormy could not just could not turn back udi woody talk about bricks and mortar as seemingly the having the upper hand in the horse of the year balloting well part of the debate will include Matali of course midnight night visa Matola able to prevail in the sprint so anticipated and for Ricardo Santana junior his first win the highly Braatz Villain Korean hauling brought a wonderful moment for them Steve assigns oldest quiet help through a difficult period when they almost left the business just it's a really touching for them amazing wasn't as fortunate the racetrack you you have to be ridden on time and couldn't lose touch depending being on your style it didn't impede blue eyes cannot wait to talk to Nacho courageous that was one of the great moments as well from the weekend Correa Story I've told repeatedly have to rebuild his business the modern day Angel Penna that was spectacular Joseph O'Brien iridescent Sir in the Philly and mayor turf denying the Silica who ran incredibly the silica it ran so game but Wayne Lorden gets his first Breeders Cup win Joseph O'Brien puts his name alongside Freddie head having ridden of Breeders Cup winner and Training One and obviously also adds the moniker of youngest trainer to win a Breeders Cup as well as being the youngest rider to win one. The O'Brien moment was really wonderful the the the lads and everybody associated with the ballydoyle doyle operation coolmore the moment that we captured I I got a great photo of Aidan O'Brien on the phone with John Magner and him calling over to Joseph it's John it's Johnny they wanted to congratulate Joseph O'Brien Kafi Joel Rosario another of the great stories worries of the weekend Rosario Big Day Saturday and and from the one hole which may or may not have doomed Dennis's moment on Friday but kaffee brilliantly ridden and delivers a mammoth performance in the Philly and Mayor Sprint Delvina comes home and now she's four for what four five with one second and four wins at her home track amazing I mentioned spun to run the Qadhafi's win for Brad Cox who also of course won the Philly race on Friday British idiom but for L. Ajay foxwoods the Roth Sue I've really jumped into the game with both feet as the losers on the training track is heading home and here's the outrider picking him up the that'll that'll that'll end the alarm but Brad Cox two more Breeders Cup wins after monoploy girl last year spun to run was one of the great moments of the of the Breeders Cup one Carlos Guerrero so overcome I you can't say you weren't warned about spun to run I that race in Philly early and going back to the performances from the Haskell on Work Guerrero had really made it clear that this was an exceptional exceptional horse really a moot really wonderful I can't wait to talk to Guerrero as well move to Friday get those in and Jeff Brown can add a juvenile turf his juvenile filly turf successes you Kinda knew it was GonNa win one or the other whether it was gonna be selflessly or or struck door instructor terrific palace malice son everything started off with American Pharaoh running one three with his progeny the juvenile turf sprint four wheel drive much like double bay to just went to the front in this kind of irksome five-furlong for long term sprint and wires and of course I mentioned Dennis's moment storm the court the upset her in the juvenile will have Peter in here in a little bit Laffit Pincay the third later Jay prevent top of the Hour Janis flying back we'll talk to him tomorrow. "Elsayed good morning I'm good said I didn't think to ask this accept the fact that The dirt mile fresh top of mind off of Mary's visit a we know that it's been an intrusive edition in a handle generator but what's what's its role really as a contributor into a stallion the prospect it just doesn't feel like it it it's all that valuable or or important from that standpoint well I think if you you know look at what Dick Mandela had told recorder as Lake to build sending in the article in the end his leaning towards sprint because appeals to more prestigious rates in the Breeders Cup Mile Dirt Mile and I kinda tell your you need to know the dirt mile probably lack of You know better word probably you're spot for unquote but he decided to go and sprint because it's much more prestigious rates you know the thing is mile races are important yet cigar mile obviously metropolitan mile those races are a pretty big stallions resume the Breeders Cup dirt mile as opposed to the biggest cup mile on on the glass doesn't have that cachet which basically question and with that idea in mind and absolutely right just looking at the and and here's you know here's the list of winners and of course city alight last year Battle of Midway Thamar coups Lemes map and certainly his his stallion career off to a very nice start golden sense back to back tap czar calebs Ossete Dakota phone furthest Land Albertus Maximus and Carinthian the first of the the dirt mile winners so it it isn't it's not as if you know that list golden sense in recent years golden sense and Leems map can't you can't argue with the with the early returns on hairstyling efforts no you know Liam's math at one of the prestigious Woodward Cutler is like Golden sense showed us forum early by winning Santa Anita Derby Day later cut back in in trips in one the I think he wanted dirt mild lights right no I mean you know both those horses are promising career tally as well obviously you know came into that race Legitimate prospects beforehand you know a wonderfully Catalina cruiser interestingly enough going this dirt mile and I don't know if they will or not because the only blemish is record I believe is that the dirt mile from a year ago the way he's he's perfect but the one thing he's whacking is that great one and that that would be important Chris his careers balancing now that's a fair that's a fair points for for a horse like for a horse like him just getting that yeah just getting that mark is is probably is probably enough and so from that standpoint you you WanNa pick the the race that is more likely to you're more likely to win remember I think when when when Vinnie Viola and and Todd pletcher made that choice with Liam's map it felt a little this pointing I mean because he looked coming off the Woodward way yeah it just felt like go for the brass ring although at the same time going off going off with a slam dunk slam dunk to some degree in the in the so you still have to go out and win it they don't give it away no exactly I so I just hit the big my biggest frustration I have no problem with anybody that goes in this direction it just it it in the breeders cups interest in handing the event it just invariably has taken courses from you know from two of the much more important races the classic and and the sprint although this year it's certainly not going to hurt the sprint this year the sprint which has been kind of limping along with smallish builds and and you know a little less interesting than it used to be not this year it's got every potential to be as as entertaining his any race on on the on the card over the two days said aside from Breeders Cup I've got a bunch of boy a whole bunch of things to talk about

"Churchill getting started would bind with they're the first really too big weekends they also course got the international later in the meet later in the fall and and that brings in some international shippers this woodbine mile just the mile either northern dancer the more you look at it. I thought was was was intriguing and there's plenty of other a lot of stars on the card including Holy Khaleda and pink Loyd. WHO's I I for a horse? That's one like twenty seven in a row. Nobody seems the talk about him or pay much attention to him. Bob Tillers streaking sprinter and here's a streaking sprinter victim Rio depends on where the sprint destination is. I think might Tapei at times but shop racing form a yes to the windows. Definitely Pink Floyd is is really sort of a marvel in terms of how he's performed well routinely I of course needed him to at least be third in this race last year in the contest and finished fifth so the pink floyd stop it will be nowhere near Wreck Stale Ontario and so his chances tomorrow we'll probably increase exponentially. He's in the early. They put the bold venture early on the card actually in fact when I went to the stakes together and put them up Derby Trail Oh. I didn't even look that that early on the card so I didn't even have to go back in fact I don't know if I did go back and put it up but there are a couple couple of very nice horses here including Carlin's honor the Jack Oxley Breezy York good old Yordan approaching half a million dollars for a chiefs would and Stewart Simon you know a lot of your a lot of your local players in the sprint scene but pink Cloyd is now twenty one twenty six and it really was late last year September October that he started to show some some frings signs of tiring and Kinda sputtered out at the end of the year could. Could he be beaten in here. I don't think so no it looks like he's he's back where he needs to be and I don't really know I guess other than Caroline's honor who's supposed to be particularly big threat to him in the spot so he he should get the job done. I mean it's always nice to see good. Horses do Well York than obviously was in much better form coming into this last year having run a good second pink Floyd Royd individual and and that was also during a period of time where pink floyd was having a really hard time getting out of the gate so he's a little ornery for a seven year old gelding and he had a little bit gate trouble really about four or five races in a row going into last year's bold venture he he's not he still not they really particularly the obedient or when it comes to getting out of the gate or being trained for it but he's definitely a little bit better spot with that right now so I think given that he's he's inform and should be sitting right off of the of the pace. If you worked in may be line to the front end. I think he should be okay before we talk about the Canadian the end the grade to which does start the cross country and will incorporate the pebbles and the nightcap at Belmont Nixon thoughts about last week at Belmont. We talked about this Jockey Club Derby and oaks and the Grand Prix. I talked to Andy on Tuesday. The Grand Prix was oddly contest than I thought but some some quick hits on opening the opening salvos at Belmont. I guess guess I'll try and keep it as charitable as possible. Given I took my shots at it last week but I think they played out largely. How we expected decide thought was a pretty impressive winner of the Jockey Club oaks overcoming? I think by all counsel was a pretty negative pace setup and winning is much the best running down Wonderman who I thought probably got a little bit more the run of the race and the American contingent as we expected in that race as well as the Jockey Club Derby were pretty much no shows and it could also be that the American continuing is pretty thin out by now. We'll talk about the pebbles and a little bit but the pebbles is going to be the ninth race for one hundred thousand dollars or more for three year olds fillies on turf going back to June sixth six and that's insane so the ranks of American horses that are ready to go a mile and three eighths early in September. We're really not very not very robust and and that proved out on the lady side and I thought Spanish mission I I actually thought he was totally out of position and thought that he was about to have a Jamie Spencer Special before he was able to overcome it and get the job done so a little bit. I know that the horse was capable of overcoming his writer. I I would imagine he he should be one of the better distant sources that we could potentially see over here next year given that he's going to be off now until the spring and there's just obviously connections that have problems shipping over the Grand Prix North American Jockey Club invitational brought to you by whatever most pretentious name of all time that was one of the most oddly run races I've ever seen first of all. I don't know how the hell everybody knew. Marconi was winning that race for fun and then to watch the riders of both realm and roaming union gather a hold of their horses so strongly almost as if they were waiting for Marconi to catch up and take the lead after he blew the break so that he could go one sixteen flat it was basically sort of the epitome of what we complain about left and right about American American dirt racing right now and you know in this day and age of sort of turf occasion of American racing where everybody points to turf races races are run like turf races. It's almost as if one horse makes the lead all the other guys say okay well. They're the pacesetter we're just GONNA go ahead and sit back and wait for them to come back to us and the majority of the time on the dirt that just doesn't happen even so shockingly Marconi was able to set a pedestrian pace and and went on with it and I I obviously would not have been a big fan of his at the price he went off often. We talked about how it looked like a bit more competitive race on paper the other todd pletcher trainee your to blame. I thought ran pretty well. He was able to stop the pace on the inside but you know I don't y horse like roaming union was in there if he wasn't GonNa GonNa contest the pace especially given that he's from connections like Michelle Navin who generally have a pretty decent idea how to win dirt racist so that was is a little bit of a head scratcher. you know look my personal opinion is that if there's any thought given to this turf triple. I really hope that same amount of money is committed to a dirt program and trying trying to incentivize horsemen to get there and run on dirt more frequently really try and build up the claiming ranks again because it's kind of embarrassing through the first three days of racing. I'm I'm sorry through the first three days of Racing Belmont there were seventy eight horses total entered to run on dirt and there are over seventy eight horses enter to run dirt in the first day at Churchill so I if the same number number of races and and that's that's not good. That's a big big problem that creates a big problem in the winter so that's my hope for it as it is. I guess we'll see probably a little bit better from Spanish mission in the Diese Lisa next year well we turn to Belmont today and into the weekend a couple of very good maiden races actually as part of that card and maybe we'll touch on them but let's let's look at the cross country pick five and it is comprised of of the three three of the stakes would bind the Canadian the mile and the northern dancer that you know you the top of your head. You wouldn't have thought it the three of them were as complex as actually I think they are and then the pebbles and the turf sprint claiming nightcap the eleventh at Belmont so let's start with the Canadian you know this is an interesting field the and really they'll competition. Idea should probably go off a pretty solid favorite. I don't really see how tactically you could make a real stand with her and she's a horseshoe. Obviously needs to lay back and make one run and you know those types generally at the mercy of the pace and this race does not look like it's going to have really any pace speak of so so she's going to have to overcome that now. I will say that you'll Rosario getting back on board to me feels like a very good thing. It does seem like she's just a little bit better horse when he's John Her but now the flip side of that is that we know Joel style. He's GonNa take her back and let her make one run so I mean they're they're going to. There's going to have to be some pace in here that you can't really foresee and I guess the hope is that Dixie moon and or starship do believe maybe show a little bit more speed than they have before. That's if you're back competition of ideas with any great fervor because obviously what this is shaping up as a situation where Holy Helena has a big tactical advantage on the other favorite and and she's been effective at Woodbine in the past. You look good winning the dance smartly last time Jimmy was giving a little bit of time since and I think she's a horse that that will really get the run of the race and and that's GonNa make her toffee. This could be a situation where on your your pick five. You're really leaning on those two pretty heavily and maybe you could give a little bit of a nod holy Helena on one one more additional ticket. I did want to try and make a case for to Riga and my hope is the Tyler Galileo. Maybe a little bit more aggressive with her than Johnny. Velazquez was was last time he finished just length and a half behind the competition of ideas did get into a little bit of trouble amazingly. She got into trouble in the three-horse rates which it happens of course and with a little bit cleaner run maybe second off the off the layoff off the ship in we can see some improvement grim oceans been a little the little laid back with her she she ran on July twentieth didn't work until August thirty first but might be one of those horses that can stay fit without doing that. I I'm always very very in tune and was looking at his horses in these kind of scenarios as they they generally overperform relative to their odds so I'm GonNa go ahead and include Theresa's well the and will include could starship jubilee more than likely those two has backups because I think they each offers some appeal at what should be better prices than the two chalks should note that ah Jimmy Jerkins after sending Holy Elena opt for the dance smartly basically is as left her there and oh my Gosh the stronach trainer but my Woodbine what is yes thank you Mike Doyle. Mike Doyle has been handling and Jimmy is on TV with seth deny after after precision is one and he told the story about Jimmy said he got the notification is it is stable mail all that Holy Helena had worked Labor Day weekend and so gets the notice he opens it up and Airy Jerry Sees Holy Elena six longs one eleven and three Jimmy said got on the phone to this is Mike what's going on up there and he said I really don't worry though or she did it easy. Did it easy the track was the polly was slick. It was cold or whatever yeah what eleven at three and you know what I did. I brought up with Jimmy that great story that is his father told about Bo purple and going out to Hawthorn for the Hawthorne Gold Cup on Tuesday the race as was Saturday and on Tuesday he gets a call from a Chicago sportswriter and said Jerkins. I wanted to ask you for comment about outvote purples work and said what about it. He says well he he he went a mile in one thirty. Two and three Korea broke the track record or mile. I think he went to violent at eight and broke the track record. What what forty seven forty six shades or something and and and Jerkin said you know? I'm sure he'll be fine and sure enough. He went out and won the Gold Cup but that was funny. One one eleven and three
