"In the day to today grind. Always great to talk to you. And I look forward to talking to you again soon. Thank you, Tom. Thank you. Take care. Todd mcshay, ESPN college football and NFL Draft analyst and his mock draft available at ESPN+ available tomorrow on ESPN+ Mel Kuiper and Todd mcshay have a three round alternating NFL mock draft where they take turns making picks. I have mentioned before I have a source, a friend for a long, long time in the NFL as a scout. And he is doing some scouting right now for an AFC team. And he said, one of the players that he thinks is a real quality player is jameer Gibbs. He transferred to Alabama from Georgia Tech. He says fast elusive great hands and the comp will be Marshall faulk. So he says he'll be a steal wherever he goes. He also said he believes still likes Bryce young oversee J Stroud. Will levis, he's going to drop in the draft, two mechanical Anthony Richardson, a big reach, accuracy issues don't usually get better. As you go into the NFL and so that was it. Just some information that I got earlier this morning. We'll take a break. Last call for phone calls, what we learned, what's in store tomorrow, back after this. the Dan Patrick show podcast, be sure to catch us live every weekday morning, 9 until noon eastern, 6 to 9 Pacific, on Fox Sports radio, and you can find us on the iHeartRadio app at FSR or stream us live on the peacock app. This is Steve covino. "And that's what everyone's going to talk about. But he is the poise that he has in the pocket of ability to sense pressure where it's coming from and just he has special qualities and there are very few that are special and Bryce young to me is special. Okay, so then walk me through the evaluation you think Ryan polls, general manager of the bears and coach ebert. Walk me through that evaluation. If they have the number one overall pick, the question is, is young is the best player in the draft? And you can get the best player in the draft. But you already have Justin Fields, walk me through what you think that evaluation is going to be. Brutal. Really brutal because all right, here's the thing. I would actually take Bryce young. And I know it sounds crazy. But I would do it because you're getting yourself you're buying yourself a couple of years of money. But you're betting on something that you don't know. And you also, with fields, you've put a couple of years into developing that and developing him and developing the family and everything that is what to quarterback position should be. And so then you would just all of a sudden quit it. But I still would take Bryce young. I still would. Why? I mean, because you're starting over again, or. He's your guy. So you would literally flip Justin Fields after the two years we just saw from him to somebody else. I would. I would, because I think very strong is special. I really do. If I could get Patrick Mahomes and I know he's a hundred and 95 pounds, but if I could get a version of Patrick Mahomes, I would do it. So what does he do? What does he do that you see? But I don't rich. I don't think they're going to do that. I think that they're going to trade out and get probably pick I think they'll probably move back to four and then you get picked 35 and then like a fourth round pick and then a second round pick next year. This is what I think is actually going to happen. Okay. So, wow. That would be wild. To say the least. So let's walk me through what, you know, when all right, one step at a time here. Bryce young, what do you see on film that remind you of mahomes? Do you? Watch probably every single game that he's played. And I've been with him live three different times. His poise and his ability to maneuver inside the pocket. To create and to feel pressure and to just it's no big deal. No big deal. That's the thing. He has a different ability to just sense where the pressure is coming from. And it's just calm about it. And there are very few people very few quarterbacks that can actually do that. And that's why I think he's special. Todd mcshay here from ESPN here on the rich eisen show. Okay, so then let's just say the bears do go ahead and flip Justin Fields. Who do you think would go and get him, talk? Let's play this out. I mean, you got Houston at two. Right? You've got indie it for. So those are the top two teams that I would think will make them move up. Last Vegas could move up from what is it 7? So I mean, I think when I looked at it, there were 7 or 18 in the top 20 that actually could move up. But here's the other thing. If you're Chicago and you're sticking with Justin Fields, right? Yes. You don't want to move past four. Correct. Because you want to make sure that you're still getting will Anderson or Jalen Carter will Anderson, the defensive end from Alabama and Jalen Carter defensive cackle from Georgia. Those are the two special players in this draft. But you have to make sure that you get one of those two guys. Okay. Todd mcshay here on the work Jason show. Walk me through the rest of the quarterback class. Where do you have CJ Stroud? Where do you have the rest of them, Todd? Yeah, I have CJ throughout at number two. he got better as the process went on. He had his best game against Georgia, he finally showed his mobility and the ability to just move around and utilize his athleticism. The most, I would say intriguing because he has a strongest arm outside of Anthony Richardson, but Anthony Richardson is the most physically gifted. Coming out of Florida. So you've got four quarterbacks that have very different skill sets and a lot of talent, but there's a lot of gamble here. Is the best way I could put it. Anthony Richardson is the most talented quarterback in this class, but he is the least ready for the NFL right now. He needs another year, but he's not taking another year. So he's going to come out and we'll see what happens. And I hope for his sake that he winds up in the situation where a team is willing to take a year, maybe two years, develop him and go through the process. Will levis has the territory and toughness and the integrity and everything he look for for the quote unquote its factor and he's has a strong arm and his mobile, but I still see some areas where he has to learn how to process and look through the field. And I don't think he's there yet. So you have him in your mock draft Todd mcshay, landing at 7. For the Raiders, why do you feel that's a fit? Why do you think McDaniels is sitting there? And going to go pull the trigger. I think he would look at him and say, you know what? I can fix the little things that need to get fixed. And he'll be my guy. That's fine. Okay. And then do you think he can start day one? Certainly if the Raiders, let's just say, go ahead and snag. Jimmy G in the next couple of weeks. What do you think?

"Because they're going to have to offer an insane package. For the bears to entertain moving as far down as 7 8 or 9 in this draft, removing them from the will Anderson Jalen Carter zone. I think it's going to be between the Texans and the cults and Ryan polls should play them both off each other like crazy. Now the Texans here and say, well, you know, Ryan, that's too rich for our blood. We'll just sit where we are and we'll take the other guy to the colts don't take. Yeah. This is the horse trading that's happening or will happen and for some reason I feel like we're going to have to get through pro days. I've pegged late March early April for this deal. Can it happen sooner? But it's on. It's on. Let's go. Again, bears should play them all off each other. And make it seem like it's some point when they're playing off each other and saying, yeah, we're not going to go in that direction. It's too rich for our blood. Guess what? Guess who we're going to have in for a meeting. Bryce young. Hopefully, you know what? Does he like deep dish? Does he like have you ever seen the bean? The bean is. Does he like deep dish? That'll be, that'll be, that'll be the retort to anybody that doesn't meet Ryan pulls his asking offer. We're going to find out if he likes deep dish. Do you like deep dish? How about them apples? Or portillo's, you know? It's on, and it starting. It is starting popcorn. Chicago is wait till CJ Stroud spins it on Saturday. He's going to look great doing it, man. 6 three, two 20 5. Wait. Till he spins it on Saturday and Bryce young will be standing there. It'll be a long day for him. Just standing there in his in his zip up. He'll just be standing there. He'll be there, buddy. He'll be there watching Stroud spinning, and then of course you'll show up in Alabama. I know spin all of us suddenly, young's up there. That's the way it's going to work. Everybody just breathe in pace, but it starts this week. 8 four four two O four rich. Number two, here on the program, we've got Todd mcshay from the worldwide leader in sports to kick it all off Albert brew to end it to sprinkle in some conversation about his Jalen Ramsey going to get traded. What is going on? At the combine, he's already in Indianapolis. What's going on in the halls, the whispers that should have chatter. And then hour number two, Jeff passen on the pitch clock and the shift rules. That were put into place over the weekend in Major League Baseball, and then who do you think you are? I am. Is now 11 years and one day old. The 11 year anniversary of Pete Weber, barking back apparently at somebody who was heckler. Who heckles a bowler. Hall of Fame bowler. He's joining us in our number two to stroll down memory lane. Oh, and by the way, the competition committee met about roughing the passer penalties and whether it should be reviewable, they're meeting at the combine.

"Beat Golden State in Dallas. Now they have 5 coming. Memphis, tomorrow, Oklahoma City on Wednesday, Minnesota Friday, big week for the wakers Sunday national television televised game against Golden State and then a week from Tuesday on TNT against Memphis again. We're going to find out a good Lakers are in the next week. They're at Memphis coming up this week. Okay. And I have learned Shannon Sharpe will not be there for that game. Positive about it. So on the 7th he might be air in LA. Get your cardigans ready for that Tuesday night or after the combine. We should all wear cardigans. I don't think I could swing that one. Bobble cardigan knight. Don't let the Lakers. The Lakers left for sure should do a shaded sharp cardigan bobblehead night to troll Memphis. Don't let them in. The Lakers in the tournament, fair warning. I think that's a safe warning. Fair warning, the sexy dude, they're two losses out of it. No. You can look way above that. If they go on a nice little run, stay healthy, let's see how everybody can start meshing together at darbon ham man. He can coach his ass off. Let's go. It's more interesting. I know a lot of there's a lot of Laker hate, more interesting, hands down when the Lakers are into mix and Lebrons in the mix and they're together in this mix. I'm looking forward to the next few weeks. Don't let them in. Western Conference. Now then. In advance of Todd mcshay calling shortly on our friend Adam Schefter reporting, something that is, it's all part of this mix, the mix that we saw, the minute lovey Smith bequeathed to his former team in Chicago as he went out the door in Houston, the first overall selection, because for whatever reason, he spit his last Texans breath right at the front office by winning a meaningless game costing the Texans the first overall selection. And thank you, lovey, because it's made this draft that much more interesting. And I mentioned here brockman threw it out there in an overreaction Monday. Then I mentioned here, and then asked to Justin Fields grill when he stopped by kindly to the rich eisen show at the Super Bowl. Are you ready to have your status as the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears question? He said yes, then comes the avalanche of, well, general managers at the coming out of the senior bowl think that this. Trade from Chicago may just be Justin Fields, not the first overall pick. At some point, Bryce young is going to stop in to Chicago and CJ Stroud is going to stop in and you Chris said last week. Well, it's really Bryce young and I'm like, no, CJ Stroud is going to make a run. It's going to make a run and suddenly at some point it's going to be like, hey, this guy can spin it in this guy is right there with Bryce young, if not above, and Todd mcshay may tell us something differently in about 7 minutes time, but Bryce young's not throwing at the combine. CJ Stroud is, so he's going to have on Saturday on the on field drills on NFL network with Daniel Jeremiah, and yours truly in the booth. A clear runway. We'll let us be on the runway. The kid Richardson from Florida will be on the runway. But this is going to be a CJ Stroud, as you know, neck and neck with Bryce young conversation for the bears. And conversation for the league, if the bears are going to trade the pick because it should be Justin Fields as gig. He's proven it, and they can potentially get a kings ransom because if you look at the draft order, two teams in the same division are going for a quarterback this year and it's Houston and the team hosting the combine Indianapolis. You've got the Panthers in this mix. Can the Atlanta Falcons even be interested in something like that? Interesting. Well, the Raiders do. That's 7, 8 and 9. Todd mcshay has the Raiders going will levis of Kentucky. Yeah, they could wait right there and get him. I feel like. Adam Schefter saying the bears are open to trading this draft choice. And that know that they're leaning towards it or what have you and mentioned all those teams. It's on. It's on. It's combine week. It is on. You know what I have been saying. The bears need to make it seem like they're going to trade Justin Fields. It's entirely possible that period is over. I think it's going to go longer because at some point they will have Bryce youngin and they will have CJ Stroud in unless somebody comes at the combine after seeing Stroud on the field and in their interview room or seeing young in their interview room falling head over heels in love with this person. And wanting to front load right away, blowing away, godfather offering the Chicago Bears. Who say, we're done, I don't think, in my mind, the Raiders, falcons, and panthers are in

"They've always done. Paul chris understands the precept motions. And everything you wanna do. But when you have a quarterback marques it's different the ability to throw the ball down the field and be decisive voters game now. I mean there's all kinds of theories of it's probably irresponsible to just throw them out there and looks worse by the way to so doesn't necessarily give it as much justice i mean. He's slurring his words bitten account all over the place but he's shaking bloated looking around. It's it's not good not good. And i mean people like him. No one's rooting against him. If that's you know that's max kellerman be mocking him But mcshea is taking time off. It says take care of his health and his family. Do we think it's drugs. Alcohol disease me. What do you think well. He's a younger guy. Razzie portnoy's age forty four. I think it gets. I mean you know the disease could hit. But it seems more likely that it'd be any goes to rehab. I guess hopefully. I mean to be honest with. That's probably the best case scenario. He'd just goes. You know it's clean and comes back you know. Espn wish him. Well and you'll be taken time off. I don't know that we're going to find out I often wonder this. I've never asked you your take on this. I know public. The public wants to know when a public figure when something like this happens. Or when a guy. Like michael. K williams Od's we wanna know immediately know. How'd you die or the You know a a a an athlete dies young and your media saying is it drugs aside. I mean and often wonder if you if If we have a right to know like i mean these are people who've lived the public life But you do find out cause of death when it's someone like like Michael k williams dies right you do. Yes if there's a police investigation then it's then it's going to be public records and we'll see it. I think most families or publicists of people who are famous who've died. I feel like it's better to let the fans know what happened So they i think they. They'll like give out that information on purpose but in but that or or Or a police inquiry into it. I think the two ways. If i i don't think we have a right to just think mean so that we can closer there. So jimmy hayes. The hockey player right boston former bruin boston guy passes away on august. Twenty third And it stunning shocking. Everyone's shocked everyone liked them. Everyone's saying tweeting. One of the things about him. Will we ever find out like how he died. I don't know. I think it's good to like i said give fans closure you know people who are who who love these athletes. I you know. I i remember watching jimmy. Hayes play then By all accounts everybody. That is spoken about him. Really since i've heard says he's a really nice guy so i think fans would like that closure but his family just want privacy I'm looking at one day after celebrating his sons second birthday. I didn't even realize that people magazine was writing about jimmy hayes. Yeah saying we're still not sure what the cause of death because people want to know they want to know i. It's scary when someone is thirty. One years old just gone like that. And or michael k williams older but when you hear he's dead and it's upset a lot of people huge fans of the wired chasing called him the greatest tell Character in the history of television on the history of television. And i guess that's subjective and he loves the wires we know if you fall jason woodlock. I think that might be overstated. A little bit. yes slightly But i mean i. I can't like to know people. Would you know young guys die. You liked to know did. Was it naturally heart problem. What what is going on here. And i don't know what i would do if i were reporter. I mean obviously you know. There's not that many reporters working the beat anymore. N- gerald's been decimated the globes joke. It's it's hard in. How many tv people in boston trying to out. Maybe they know maybe people in the sports media in the hockey world know and they just don't think it's our business. I'm just a if it's a heart attack or something beyond his control. I think will no. I think it's more cd than that. We might if it's a heart attack. Yeah i mean you feel bad. He had a bad heart but if he's if it's a drug overdose like like we believe. Michael k william yeah think Then it's it's good to know as i often point to lend bias. you know. His family wanted to cover it up. Understandably friends left. He might not want to but the truth came out he did cocaine. It stopped his heart. He died and it shook people up in that whole that whole generation. It changed people's perception of cocaine. It was suddenly cocaine. Wasn't you know a recreational drug was a something that could stop your heart and kill you. And i think and i know his mother said this for years and know it had a real effect. It did it by and if they covered it up and just oh. He is a family Problem with the heart. And you know what can you do. We didn't wake went to bed. Didn't up that wouldn't have changed. Any perception of think len buys death saved another number hundreds thousands millions of.

Function factory changed everything for the better. The industrial revolution made. Everyone's lives better. I guess you blame the schools a education system for lying to children and telling them if they don't if their parents have a suv they're killing the planet. We own and i love this. I don't know why everybody can't laugh in the face of every politician says we don't have much time yesterday. I died I think biden said we have only have a couple of years. Left was it biden schumer. I've been watching these two bozos this morning as they try to one and they said right right try. We only have a couple of years left. No one ever says a couple of years left for what until total earth like. What have you or spent here. What four and a half billion years. There's a great george collin rant And george collin was in many ways. I think it was not even a liberal. He was an anarchist. Aided government didn't like it serves a whole lot either but he has a great rant about how the planet is. And you have a senator who says the time to spend three point five trillion or this will happen again. it's just so shallow and despicable. How can we all don't mock him. Yes you ask that question. A little bit ago. And i wanted to answer. I think number one because school taught us that we needed to respect politicians. And i think it's one of the most disrespectful Vocations you could possibly do personally. But that's why we look at the president and we're taught not to mock him and if that's changing it would be like say the terrorist attack boom killed fifty at a nightclub like pulse nightclub forty-nine people it'd be like standing there as they're pulling the bodies out and talking about you know you have to tighten the border most strict security or gun control which they do like that day. "We love talking about the NFL draft here in Black and Abdullah his mock draft today. Jacksonville going one, taking Trevor Laurence number two. The Jets they take Zack Wilson, the quarterback from BYU. Any suggests a move up the board for the Panthers. They trade up to select Trey lands from North Dakota State. The quarterback Number three. Number four. The Atlanta Falcons would select Justin Fields quarterback for Ohio State, So that would be the first four players off the board would be quarterbacks and that would be order that Todd McShay is predicting on his mock draft released today on ESPN dot com. The other interesting piece of information for you Bears fans is that he suggests the Bears could make a play and move up the board to number 12. Then take the next quarterback available on the board. And that would be Mack Jones quarterback from Alabama. So I want to talk to you about a couple of things here. We have that letter from the official desk of blocking Abdullah that We have released to all the mock drafters. We don't understand why people continue to put Trey Lance ahead of Justin Fields. Justin Fields was the bear player in college football. I think he will be the bear player in the NFL trade. Lance played one game this season didn't look great. He was great. Last year, He threw a lot of touch Jones and what one interception last season but against lesser competition, So there's two ways you could look at it. You could be concerned because it's against Lester competition. Or you can see what Josh Allen did this year for the Buffalo Bills and say, Well, the lesser competition for Josh and it didn't matter. He's a successful good, ample quarterback. Or you could say yeah, but the lesser competition We didn't think hurt Carson Wentz. But now Carson Wentz is sitting there is trade bait, and no one wants him and Carson Wentz went to North Coast State a lesser competition situation right so you can go either way to make your argument when it comes to the quarterbacks. I don't understand why Trey Lance's over Justin Fields, Todd McShay was on Zubin J. Will and Keyshawn earlier today. Explained why he has trey Lance over Justin Fields. Freelance is difficult to evaluate as well. He had one game this year. There was basically created for him to go showcase and you didn't play all that well, but you go back to 2019 study his tape. Egg, sturdy, strong, strong arm Mobile can extended Creator's well. I think he and fields are very similar. That slight separation, I would say is that I see in Lance the ability to process things quicker, meaning he go from his first read to a second to his third Reed and sees the whole field a little bit better than what I've seen from Justin Fields, So that's why I put him slightly ahead. But you know, everyone's yelling at me saying, How do you have Justin feels from Ohio State Go number four. Overall, the fourth quarterback. He's still going number four overall, and I still have a very high grade on him. But I think Lance is probably the most underrated quarterback in this year's draft class because we haven't seen him in the last year, and nobody really watched his games in the FCS level. So are we underrating Trey Lance? That's Todd McShay, he says. People are underrating trailer. We'll, you know, go back to his first bite where, he said You know the Panthers. He talked to them at the Senior Bowl, and they think that they are. They're literally one drive away from being a playoff team. They lost eight games last year there, one drive away eight games last year by less than a score. So to me, you look at that situation. Who do you trust more in that final drive, a guy who did at Ohio State and beat Clemson. Or Trey Lance, who like you said played against lesser competition and didn't play it all last year. They want to court you mentioned Josh Alan. How many years did it take Josh Allen to become this quarterback? It's taken a few years. Well, I mean, you know, another example I think we can kind of look at is Jordan. Love is not ready. The reports from Green Bay were that he was the third quarterback throughout the season and like he wasn't taking any snaps in practice, And so like is he even going to be ready to be the backup? Next season's Aaron Rodgers. They he was someone who played lesser competition, so it's like Who would you have rather had from this year's draft? Jordan Love or Jalen hurts? I feel like that's what we're looking at. We're looking at Trey Lance and Justin Fields, Justin Fields. Jalen hurts The accomplished player Jordan. Love is a player that played a smaller school who didn't play the same competition who were hoping that the high potential is worth the pick. Well, I also think that you're trying to find Justin Herbert. You're trying to find a guy that you can plug in right away, because obviously we know that Joe borrowed was one of the best quarterbacks in college football that year. Ever like he was at historic year, right? He came in was ready to play right away. You want You're trying to find Justin Herbert. Someone who you're like, Oh, man, I didn't think he could do this right away like he looks like he fits the position right now. That's what you're looking for. That's what the Panthers are looking for. So the Panthers are looking for that. For me. It's the guy who's done it on the highest level yet you didn't beat Alabama. Okay, fine. But you beat Clemson like you made it to the college football playoff. He played really well against Clemson, and they beat them. And he okay the bad game against Northwestern..

"You're gonna hear this a lot. This is like going to be hearing. Clayton Kershaw and Matt Stafford, her friend. Did you know that they were friends a minute when they were kids? Yeah, and they grew up. They played on the same teams. One was a picture, Huh? Think about that. He then turned into a picture the other catcher about Wow. Think about that. Two throwers, but one but see how this works. Wow. They both throw for a living, but one caught is a kid. Wow. Think about it. It's crazy. So what you're here now, now and now they're in the same city as professional athletes. Wow, that's crazy, man. And so what you're going to hear now is that Mac Jones has a master's degree. He could also speak Mandarin. So so Mack Jones, Todd McShay. Was on Zubin J. Will and Jay will and Keyshawn this morning, Right? Our morning show here at ESPN 1000 Todd McShay talked about where the top quarterbacks will go. In this year's draft after his mock draft was released on ESPN dot com Number two is when I think that kind of the draft starts, if you will. The Jets. I have them taking Zach Wilson. BYU quarterback. What? After studying all the tape of these top prospects of the quarterback spot, I think based purely off of film that it's Lawrence. Then there's a little gap than Zach Wilson. Then there's a gap. And then it's Trey Lance from North Dakota State and Justin Fields from Ohio State. Is that third tier if you will. But I Wilson going to win. The interesting part here is it could be to the Jets if New York is able to move Sam Donald and get some some draft capital for him, maybe a third round pick this year, first or second round pick next year. But if they stay there and wind up if they don't move, Donald, then I think they went up. Moving out of that spot is what I should say. And in that case, it could be a team like Carolina, moving up from 8 to 2 to go get Zach Wilson. So moving Wilson to two was more about Wilson being Clearly the number two quarterback prospect in this class, and if it's not the Jets, it could be another team moving into that spot to go get him. Then, after Wilson I've got Trey lands from North Dakota State and Justin Fields from Ohio State is the next two quarterbacks off the board. I had Carolina moving up from 8 to 3 within a trade for with Miami in order to go get Lance. It could be fields there. I have almost identical grades on the two Matt Rule told me at the Senior Bowl in his defensive coordinator and another assistant coach. They all said the same thing. We feel like we have a playoff roster outside of the quarterback position. We lost eight games last year by one score, and if we have a quarterback that could make that drive In the fourth quarter. We got a chance to be a really competitive football team, so I think they're going to be aggressive in terms of going up and getting the guy that they wanted that position and then finally, I don't know that Atlanta is going to take a quarterback with Matt Ryan having one or two good years left and having all that cap space that he's eating up for Atlanta if they wind up moving him, But Atlanta could look for the future of that position, and it could be Justin Fields at that spot if he's still available, Number four, and if not Atlanta moves down, and another team like San Francisco, possibly Dallas, possibly Chicago, 20 Indianapolis of 21. We have to see where all the dominoes fall with the veteran quarterbacks between now and the draft, but they're going to be several teams. Need a quarterback that could be looking to move up to go Get that guy. Come draft weekend. Todd McShay earlier this morning, Zubin J willing Keyshawn right here on ESPN 1000. So you'd have four quarterbacks go in the first four picks of the NFL draft. I agree with you the tray Lance won over Justin Fields, I think is crazy. McShay will explain why he has trey Lance over fields and we'll hear from him. Next. You're listeningto.

"It would have been fully justified and with that we welcome you back as always live from the seaport district appear seventeen brought to you by chase. I green this get up and we have a huge our coming your wine. It starts with this. It's a quarterback sneak mc shays make board is in and wait till you see the first four picks. He's with us live to break down off the top. Then wait a minute. What did russell say. Is he talking about getting sri. Didn't from seattle the wild ride in. Nfl history continues. And then we'll tell you how the shawn watson saga plays out and what it will mean for every team in the nfl. All that and more as we get out with you when this hour which starts right now with todd mcshay post super bowl mock draft. It's available right now on espn plus all it. It's fascinating a number one. That's no big surprise. He's got trevor lawrence going number one to urban meyer and the jaguars. But here's where it gets interesting. He also has quarterbacks going to three and four at two he has the jets taking. Byu's zack wilson who has been rising up. Everybody's draft what he has been be talk of the nfl draft process so far at three overall. He's projecting trade the panthers moving up from eight to take north dakota state's train lance to be their quarterback of the future which leaves ohio states justin field sitting there. Four and mcshea has the falcons taking him fields the second highest total qbr in college football season and then jones sliding down a little bit later to make five quarterbacks in the first round in there he is the man with the mic board. It is mcshea and it's awesome. Let's start with this todd. We all understand. Trevor lawrence going number one. Nothing even to discuss. How firmly planted in. Your mind is zack. Wilson right now as the number two quarterback in this draft. I think very firmly. The first thing i do when the season is over and a govan studied the top quarterbacks. Because i know that's what we're going to talk about for the majority of this process leading up to the draft and after lawrence. There's a little bit of a gap and then at zack wilson. And then there's a gap between gods trey lance from north dakota state and justin feels from ohio state. So i think he is clearly the number two quarterback in this class. The question becomes greenie. Is that the jets taking two or the jets gonna move out and allow a team like a carolina to that number two spot to take him. And that all depends on the domino's in terms of the veteran quarterbacks right now where does shawn watson wind up carson wentz. We know is going to get moved to chicago indianapolis. I think joe douglas. The general manager is kind of waiting. And seeing some of these other quarterbacks go and he's fielding phone calls he's not aggressively making calls but fielding calls to see maybe if they can move sam darnold and if they do exactly since the pick for the jets at number two and if not as i said i think the jets will move outta to and wilson will still wind up being that number number two overall pick in this class. I grew the. I've been saying for a while. I agree with you completely. He'll be number two. The question is who winds up making the peck. Then the other part of this is. I'm old enough to remember a time when we wondered if justin fields might supplant trevor lawrence as the number one draft now all of a sudden these the fourth quarterback off the board. How did that happen. You go back. And study games against indiana northwestern. And then the college football playoff national championship game against alabama. He completed around fifty two percent of throws with five interceptions. Those games in my opinion. You look at it physically. He's big. he's sturdy strong who mobile. He's got a big arm all the traits that you look for. But he likes to see his receivers. Come open and get stuck on that. I read very frequently. So you compare him with trae. Lance and i have identical grades on the to train. Lance didn't play the level of competition. Didn't play as many games as is justin fields but i think he processes the game a little quicker in terms of going from his first into a second and third and seeing the entire field. So it won't surprise me if it feels is third quarterback off the board. But i think they're kind of bunched together in that third tier of quarterbacks behind lawrence wilson and then the other two and then i want to ask you about the guy that you currently have fifth because i'm a regular listener of the first draft podcast and so i'm listening the other day to you and field. Yates and mel kiper talking about what was going on at the senior bowl and everyone is raving about matt jones. Your buddy mel had max jones moving this thing and i believe he has him sort of. I believe he hasn't projected higher than you have in projected. What do you see for mack. Jones as this process goes on the fifth quarterback in the first round. Well i think what's going to happen. He's matt jones is going to benefit from the fact that these four quarterbacks are gonna come off the board quickly and it's probably going to be cut because of trades moving up. I have matt jones going number twelve overall right now in a i had chicago moving up to twelve in san francisco. Moving back to twenty we have to see where carson wentz go. It does go to

"Know I've made the comment that that's the best quarterback. That's the best college quarterback I've ever evaluated, and so Then you're just trying to, like stealth out of the airport with no one seeing you not stop. Medic, Coffee shop, Not getting any picture Take And you just on to the next school like we didn't even go there And and yeah, you know, There were all the other checks all the other things that you can't see on video with personalities. Fantastic. He's He's one of those guys that's probably always hanging out in the gym when he was in high school. Um, he comes from an athletic family. He's got a bright smile. Um You know, I mean, it was it was all there and to see the success he's having. We were picking 11. Andy went to 10 and assumes that trade took place. We knew that was for my homes and we were staring at Latimore in my home, so those were too good scenarios. But he's fun to watch it. Certainly tough to defend. Stick the knife in and twist around alone. Now, maybe four years later. It's a little easier, convenient for Shawn to say what he just said about what he scouted that day because we know how great Mahomes is. But if he walked if he's being honest, And he walked out of that meeting. They left Le Bic. They got back on Mickey Loomis, who's not making this easy. Who's the owner? Benson? They got back on Mr Benson's plane, and he said to his group That's the best college quarterback I've ever evaluated. I don't want to hear about how well the Bears can't be blamed because nobody had Mahomes going that high. I wish someone smart enough to evaluate quarterbacks was in the Bears organization because there were people that saw it after his sophomore season Bread Beach. Was then doing college scouting for Andy. And this is John Dorsey was still the gym went to Andy Reid and said, This will be our next quarterback. This is our quarterback of the future, not after his junior season after a sophomore season. So obviously there are people out there. That know what they're looking at the smart ones. You guys. Some people can evaluate quarterbacks better than others. Some guys can evaluate certain positions. Whether it's they played that position in college, or they played against that position in college. They watched enough film watching something specific, where they were at what they understand a particular position. Or a position group and do very well. When they do they try to draft that group. And then sometimes there's a certain position. They're just terrible act. They're all flat. They all have strengths and weaknesses, right. I wish there was someone in the bear's building that had the strength to figure out How do we find a quarterback? Because they have with time and time again, and they did very bad but your weakness where whatever that weakness is go to the free agency market and find him in free agency. Don't try to get him in the draft. You don't know what the hell you're doing or looking for. Get him guy that's established to bring him in your program. Just say the hell with it. Here we go. So there were people out there that knew what they were looking at. And so you know, I'll never understand this argument. Over the years while you guys were being it's ridiculous. Nobody had Mahomes going that happy. Who cares? I don't care, Todd McShay and Mel Kiper. Well, I love Mel Kiper. We smells good at his job. Mel Kiper's not paid to pick the players for the organization's. He's not Kuipers, a draft analyst, draft and less rates player's overall grades never puts him in an order. I've never heard a lamer argument. Well, the draft experts didn't have him going that high. Who cares to add to that, too? They? They're limited by what they can do. You just heard Sean Payton talk about how they went to go to campus. They ahead of time gave him again Game plan and said, study this so that we When we get there, we can go over and see what you thought so they wanted to a Valium. You have been doing that. And Todd McShay don't have that accent. No, they do not. So if you know what you're doing. If you maybe have dinner with the Shawn Watson I mean, if you know what you're doing. You don't screw it up. And it's not easy to get over when the kids in his second straight Super Bowl when you don't know what you're doing after you draft him, you stand there with everybody there and go over. Everybody had thought he's acting number one guy. Exactly that shit. That's the first thing that would just make you scratch your head. Go, all boy. Oh, boy, you picked them because everybody said he was going to sporting news had him There's the operated quarterback. Good, good for the sporting news and like you would take it. You can come at it from every angle, too, because it's compounded by the fact that he traded up and took the wrong one had they set back at three. Because there were you know what? There were two generational quarterbacks in this draft now granted, Petricka Holmes is the best. But you know what? The consolation prize was to Shawn Watson. If for whatever reason, someone traded above you at two and came in and took Patrick Mahomes, You know what? You would have been sitting at three with Shawn Watson and he didn't give up any extra assets. Oh, no. They traded up and they took the wrong guy. It's craziness. So they've got to now start again. You're going to spend this offseason trying to find Your your quarterback, right? Like teddy upset. You've gotten the quarterback situation completely right? No. If we want enough games, no, Everything else is they're all good. Everything else is there. Yes, I mean, that's top notch, but you better find him..

Um, I heard I listened to a podcast Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. And they brought up the subject of Devante Smith. Don't trust what I say. I like it now. I'm not. I don't have to have him. I like him. I don't have to have here's Todd McShay on what he thinks about people who are worried about Devante Smith. The little things that he does getting getting off the press. "The 40. Niners could give you the 12th overall pick and a whole bunch of other stuff for two. Shaun wants anybody to know he would play well, though, in San Francisco, Yeah. He would be good with Kyle Shanahan. Look, I'll tell you almost every situation. I guess I wouldn't be excited to go to the Jets. I depends on who they hire. But every situation for dish on Watson, you're gonna improve your situation. Almost because Yeah, There's I mean, Bill Bill O'Brien done messed that place up real good. On you Don't got no, you don't have any high pick so improving the situation is going to be difficult to bring up the Colts yesterday. No. Talked about Phil Rivers a little bit No. But to Shawn and Shawn to the Colts. Look, here's the thing is you could you could basically pick 24 56 teams and be like, Oh, he'd be great there. He'd be great. They're basically everywhere except for you know, Baltimore Kansas City. Against the Chargers, and none of these guys who haven't have suitable young quarterback. You know what the Cowboys you guys during the national championship game. Did you go? Do you flip over to any of the mega cash channels? You know, they now put it on every ESPN already on. There was one. I don't I'm not sure what the theme was. You know they have the Alabama Homer channel. They had the Ohio State Homer channel. There's one One day like gold cam all the time, but they're Todd McShay draft guru was on one and this was when the game was well in hand on they were sort of talking about what is the perfect team for specifically this time, they're saying Mack Jones. What's the perfect team for Mac Jones? The McShay, the hedging his bets said, like five or six teams, but the first time, he said, with Dallas Really now started. Look, I don't I I did the text say, Excuse me. The Cowboys have a situation with that Prescott there and that. Are you going to pay him all of that money? If Mack Jones was a second day guy, then I would say Okay, let's let's talk about it. But now people are talking about him. Being a first rounder is not telling the first round quarterback. I don't think so. I don't again. He doesn't get you in trouble much, but I don't think first round when you go into himself because he doesn't know how to slide or just get on the ground. I think he's gonna be capable backup like most those others except two of those Alabama quarterbacks. Look, I bring this up all the time, but my sort of Moneyball approach to Ah, quarterbacks in the NFL Look at who's in the playoffs this year. All right, Josh Alan on his rookie deal, Baker Mayfield on his rookie deal. Mark Jackson. Rookie deal, You know, unless you are a legend, a Tom Brady a Drew Brees home and Aaron Rodgers. Yeah, yeah, I mean, technically, I believe Patrick Holmes makes $5 million or something like this. You something like that this year? I feel like you know, it's the teams. I guess Jared Goff is in there. But it's the teams like you know, the Eagles who have committed $100 million the 40 Niners who would do but gave Jimmy Garoppolo all of that money, who seem to wind up in mediocre land. And quickly. I wonder. Are the Cowboys cursing themselves to Adam's average land? If you ask them if they give all of their cap space, you know, eat up all their cap space keeping Dak Prescott? I don't know. I don't know enough about Mack Jones giving up on a guy like Jack for a Mack Jones would be crazy. I'm just saying Tom McShay. That was the first thing that he brought. I saw a report today that Linked Peterson, the old ego coached, He said he would be a fine, I think maybe Kirk Bohls said this he'd be a great candidate for the Houston Texans to be a coach. Because he was enrolled in the quarterback mess. He's a Super Bowl winning coach. So come come from one boiling pot of water to another. Doug S O I mean, that's interesting to me, because First of all, I think a lot of smart football people will point to Frank Reich, who the now the head coach of the Indianapolis who was the host The OC with that Eagles team saying he was the You know here is a special sauce and says, since he's left Philadelphia that Eagles team that won the Super Bowl has been no good. Um, does Doug Peterson so he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to pay us is, you know it's fine. He doesn't have to do his time as an offensive coordinator somewhere, he just jumps into a head coaching role again. Uh, maybe, uh, I think it's interesting that there's I saw Jacksonville. We've we've discussed the Chargers have a mindless Jacksonville Has Jason Garrett on the list. Jason Garrett clap, Clap clap. I mean, so Yeah, my God look, and I'm not as big Jason Garrett hater. It's a lot of Cowboys fans are I think he's You know what? It's sort of what I'm worried about with Jack. When Jason Garrett your coach, I think you might be cursed Toe average nous. Okay, do not a disaster. He's not bad, but I don't think he's an elite guy who really elevate your your team. But what did he do? So he loses the job in Dallas. He has to go be the offensive coordinator for the Giants without a dynamic offense this year. I believe it was 15 out of 16 in the NFC, Uh, was that a great office? And what has he done to say? Okay, I'm ready to be elevated again. I'm ready to be head coach again. They lost their big running back early. That's the thing And they when the Giants lost, what's his name? The running back from Penn State who so they want when they want to put in France? Yeah. I'm just curious, crimping everything, so it's really give it a little bit of a break. Sure, but I mean, if if Doug Peterson is going to go from one head coaching job to another this year than then why did Jason Garrett have to go do a year in the penalty box? I guess he didn't. He never wouldn't want a Super Bowl Super Bowl and Doug Peterson won the Super Bowl in Texans fans. Would you be excited to have done? Doug Peterson? Is your One adviser and everything he could wear. His visor lets you know what I actually His situation might be upgraded. Doug Peterson. I think I think Philly. Do we talk about this yesterday? I think Philly is the worst coaching and job of the seven openings because Philadelphia Well, look, it all comes down to what you believe about. Carson Wentz. Can he be an M v p Candidate type quarterback again? Because this last year you got benched. All right? He was that he was unplayable on Do they are committed to him for a lot of money. So, Yeah, you're you're signing up on maybe a sinking ship there. If you if you're the guy who's going to come in to be the coach, you have to hire somebody who thinks he can fix that, or As you know, they have plans to trade him, I guess. I love I love the city of Philadelphia. They got some great sandwiches, but sports fans there. I mean, that's just a whole it. It's a kind of market that you're going into already, which is kind of like a longhorn situation. Like they expect things sometimes might be unrealistic. I think they're more brutal up their table three. Yes, they throw like a snowball's with batteries and Santa Dead. Just hurt me, man. We compared Longhorn fans to Philly fans. A dude in a sense of that you might be might be just unfortunately, we ain't got no jail in our stadium and that the thing that they have a jail and I got a jail below can go to jail. I don't I don't know. I want to say that I've been detained at the BK are downstairs pen before the true story, but Assed far is just besides the fandom. I just There's so much negativity swirling around. It wasn't the coach Or is it? Carson Wentz? So if one's decides to stay with a new coach, are you solving any of your locker room problems is that Going to be any less toxic of the situation, right? You an actual chance to have a team that we can compete and what I mean. You don't have a whole lot going for you there in Philadelphia, either. I don't know that. I love that roster. I mean, you got some young skill players Mile Sanders, Jalen regular there, but Washington is the team in that division. If Doc if they don't find if they solve the debt problem, I think the Cowboys will be favored again. But if not, the Cowboys will be Washington. I'm favoring Washington today..

"I had asked on Twitter, Alabama wide receiver Devante Smith for the Bengals and more five question. Mark. Look at that coin flip. 49% Yes, 51% know why the ratings air out? Not good Couple of different factors for that will get into. In fact, I'm going to turn that into a bigger topic coming up in about 8 15 tonight ratings for last night's game and all time low. The national championship in the playoffs or the BCS era game drew 18.6 million viewers across the ESPN platforms down big from every year prior to the title game in the playoff here and down a tick from both of this year semi final games as well. The previous low was Clemson's went over Bama 2017 that drew 25.2 million last night. Drew 18 6. This year's number down 27% from last year's match up. 27% from last year's matchup. Not only an all time low for the playoff air, it's the lowest it's lower than every BCS title game that took place in the nearly two decades before the playoffs came to be, according to reports. Tonight. I am looking at from our friends at BET online, the odds to win next year's national championship No shocker Here. Bam of the odds on Favorite at 72, Clemson, 4 to 1 Odds. Georgia 4 to 1 Odds. Ohio State 13 to 2 odds. I see Notre Dame a 28 tow one. I see You see it 66 to 1. Indiana's that 101 in Kentucky at 100 to 1 that from our friends at BET online, Here's what impresses me about Obama and what Nick Saban is done. And I'm gonna expand on this with our topic is mentioned. Come again at 8 20 Nick Saban has has changed has adapted has changed with the Times adapted to what is going on recruiting wise. Um, offensive wise. He has tweaked his recruiting and his philosophical approach to bed. He's tweaked his offenses. God uptempo, embraced the AARP. Oh, no more. Big nose tackle. £350 nose tackles. No more £260 linebackers. It's it's defensive backs who could run in a thumbprint, the safety position and here's what is amazing to me. How much turnover he has on that coaching staff. And yet They don't miss a beat. I saw this note today in the athletic. I think it's incredible. At Alabama Saving has won national titles. With five different offensive coordinators. Jim McElwain. Nine in 2011, Doug Nussmeier 2012. Lane, Kiffin 2015, Brian Dabul 2017 Steve Sarkisian 2025 different offensive coordinators. He's won a national championship with He's won national titles with three different defensive coordinators. Kirby Smart, 09, 11, 12 and 15. Jeremy Pruitt 2017 Pete Golding. This year, there were zero assistance on this staff. That worked on the 2017 staff. Let that sink in in terms of the turnover and the staff being flipped. And Alabama gets better. He will turn Nick Saban will 70 In October. And he just reeled in the number one recruiting class in the country for 2021. Masterful in what he's done. I've looked at to mock drafts today. As they relate to Devante Smith, the Alabama wide receiver who I had visions dancing in my head last night of Devante Smith, lining up in a spread offense with Tyler Boyd. And tea, Higgins. Todd McShay has Devante Smith tag teaming with to, uh and the Miami Dolphins. Jacksonville takes Trevor Laurence one. The Jets take Panay Sul to Miami takes Devante Smith at number three. Atlanta takes the quarterback and a BYU Zach Wilson at four and Todd McShay has to the Bengals at number five ratio on Slater, offensive lineman Northwestern I have no idea. If that's valuer that does not seem like value that seems more need on. I think that's an elevation of need, because I haven't seen anybody else who has ratio on Slater as high as the number five worthy in the draft. The second best offensive. I mean, in theory, going number five overall to the Bangles ratio on Slater is a guy like pennies. Panay Sul opted out this You did not play this year. Todd McShay, says Slater projects best is an interior linemen, possibly a center, but he also has the experience of both left and right tackle..

"He now has more national championships. And the other 129 active FBS coaches combined. So that on Yahoo Sports today let me repeat that one. Coach Nick Saving has more national championships than every other college coach on the FBS level combined at 129 schools. And how about the Heisman winner Devante Smith. Last night 12 catches Ah College football title game, a record 215 yards, receiving three touchdowns and did not play the second half because of the finger injury. It would have 12 catches 215 yards and three touchdowns to play. The game was Jones to Smith? That was 42 yards just before the half. Somehow, some way. Devante Smith was one on one against poor tough. Borland, the Ohio State linebacker. The perhaps the lasting image of that game will be Devante Smith streaking away for a 42 yard touchdown and tough Borland. The poor guy, chugging, huffing and puffing behind is the middle linebacker who had no chance to catch him. And if you're like me, I don't know if you are, if you're like me. It was a moment last night where you found yourself watching Devante Smith make the sideline catch where he contorted his body to have the hands and got his feet down. And you're thinking Wait a minute. And I close my eyes and I said, I see. I see. I see Joe Burrow breaking the huddle coming to the line of scrimmage and I see him motioning Joe Mixon behind him in the back field. And I see Joe, take a look to the left. And I see Tyler Boyd in the slot and I looked further toe left and I see tea, Higgins. And then Joe brings his eyes back across the defensive line of scrimmage over to the right and he sees Devante Smith. And I'm thinking Oh, I had a chill wind a shiver. The hair stood up on the back of my neck. I can't be the older one last night who watched that game, it said. Do you realize what this offense might look like? If Dion Devante Smith was drafted by the Bengals at number five? Anybody else? Man. The Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian Sark, who's bound for Texas. It was like he was playing a video game license. I actually felt sorry for Ohio State's defense, actually, the way the game is played down college football. I feel sorry for defense is a general because it is such an explosive pass. Happy rules. Favorite Just explosion of offense in college football mean Mack Jones and I have no idea how good Mack Jones is gonna be as an NFL quarterback. Todd McShay and Mel Kiper seem convinced he's a first round pick. I saw Mel had him at what number 15 to the Patriots and his latest mock draft..

"Actual draftkings picks. I play Draftkings every single weekend. I'm in a couple of different head to head and group meetings. And so I'm going to give you these and so usually my picks. We call them K o D as Ted Kot. Pics of death are usually the kiss of death. But in this particular case that is not so I'm pretty good at draftkings. Not bad. A draft kings not good at picking the winners of games legendarily bad at it. In fact, Not bad. A draft kings, So I got two for you this weekend. Here's the complicated Let's start with the easy one to me and easy pick this weekend is JK Dobbins. I love Dobbins. They're going to run the football like crazy this weekend against Tennessee, and you don't want to take Lamar because he's so expensive for those of you Don't play draftkings. You only get a certain amount of money you can spend on different players putting together a roster now Lamar Jackson, I think will be the number one point getting quarterback this week, but by how much? Because he is so incredibly expensive to put on your roster for 6600 can get. JK Dobbins and Dobbins went for 31 points last week, and the plan against the Tennessee team that cannot stop the run and we'll be selling out to stop Lamar. So I love Dobbins this week and then the other little tip. I will give you Is you need You need a stealer receiver in your line up every single week and because they don't do anything but throw the ball. The problem with them is they've got too many different guys. So one week it's juju and one week it's Claypool and one week it's Johnson. So it's very hard to know which one to take. So this week, I'm going to take Chase Claypool. I liked what I saw from him last week. They threw him a jump all last week, and he scored a touchdown on that juju with the playoffs, I think is a good pick. That's where I'm between the two of them for me. I think I'm gonna play Claypool this weekend. So those are just a couple of little tips. For you and there they will cost about the same on draftkings, which is great fun, And you know what a good opportunity So those are my picks for draftkings this weekend Brought to you by Draftkings America's top rated daily fantasy app. I will give you my picks for the game's coming up tomorrow. Meanwhile, The thing that I found to be the most surprising thing in sports happened this morning. Todd McShay. I had been told last night is going to reveal his first mock draft of this off season and he's going to do it exclusively for the first time on get up. So I was very happy about that. But I didn't really look at it ahead of time. They sent it to me, but I didn't look at it cause I figured I know what's there. Why was I wrong? Todd McShay has Trevor Laurence Going number one. That's obviously no surprise. The next quarterback he has going off the board is Zach Wilson from BYU at number four. And he has just infield. The Ohio State superstar going 15 to the Patriots, the third of five quarterbacks that he has going in round one. He also has trade lands and Mack Jones going and so what I always do When I look at these mock drafts. These guys don't know who's going to take where we usually take what you have to all of free agency to go through. Pay no attention. The team's outside of maybe number one and two. Just look at where these guys are slotted because guys like me, Shane know that McShay doesn't is not saying that because he's just throwing a dart. This is going to wind up being the consensus. All these guys look at the same data to look at the same film, and they tend to arrive for the most part at very similar conclusions. So Player in Justin Fields. Do I have spent the last two years thinking is going to maybe give Trevor Laurence a run for his money to being the number one pick in the draft. And if not, will certainly be the second quarterback taken in my co 23 or four overall. Has suddenly in the minds of one of the foremost people doing this falling all the way to the middle of the first round that that's now the range that McShay has him in. And that doesn't mean that that can't change. Obviously, Monday night is a huge night for that He gets one more game. So does Mack Jones. Actually, he's going head to head. These are both first round quarterbacks this year and both of them out. Assume can increase their stock with big performances. That Jones is on one of the highest flying offenses that you've ever seen in college football, So you'd expect him to have huge numbers. I don't think his I don't think the thinking on him is going to change almost regardless of what happens on Monday night. I think Justin Fields it can Fields if he didn't raise his stock in the eyes of people with the toughness that he showed on Friday night against Clemson that I don't know what he would have to do. I'll say it again. I love the kid. I love Justin Fields. I've never met him in my entire life. But I mean, I like him personally, I just think he's a sensational player. I'm very Tori and whether or not I want the Jets to take him at number two. So that's where I think that's what I think of him at number 15. I think it would be like you should make that pick like with a mask. It's such a steal. So I don't know, but I find that very surprising, So if he goes out there, they're going to need 50 points to win that game. You do not beat Alabama by scoring 30. I'm not even sure you beat them in scoring 40. If that gets into a shoot out a game that is a shootout. I think Alabama will comfortably score 40 points. You have got to score 45 to 50 points. I think to beat them. So if Justin Fields is going to do that, that's what he's gonna have to do on Monday night. And if he puts up 50 points and wins a championship. I just can't imagine He's not going to go ahead of Zach Wilson because he's also exactly the guy. That teams are going to talk themselves into. They're gonna fall in love with him. Have you ever looked at him? He's huge. He's huge. He is a was described on my show one time on TV as a Maura athletic that Prescott That sounds awful good to me that Prescott is tremendous and he's pretty athletic. Testing field is he's bigger, he's faster. So I think Justin feels to me and I'm not an analyst again. I don't watch every snap of every game. I don't pour over the film over and over and over again. I don't know the 40 times and all that kind of stuff, and so much of the evaluation is still to be done. Part of it. Where you kind of lose me is when the game's end. Not that interested in the cone drill. That to me. That's ridiculous. As Mike used to say all the time they don't put the bench press on the 50 yard line, So I watch these guys play you want. Justin feels play. I think he's great. And if he plays a big game on Monday night, I cannot believe he isn't going to at minimum, be the second pick in this draft. Whether he wants it going number two overall and again, the Jets have that pick. I think it's better for the Jets one way or the other. Whoever would be the number two. It would be the case if people do fall in love with fields because that just increases the value of the asset. Castle Village number one has an extraordinary asset. They're going to use it to take Trevor Laurence. But if they wanted to, they could trade it for everything. They could just like. Call up a team and say We'll take everyone and you can have the number one pick and every team in the league would do it. So that's the value of the asset. So I don't know Just how valuable the number two asset is. If there's this much question over who the second best quarterback is in this draft, we'll wait and see one way or another..

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow

"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

Tua Tagovailoa's Recovery Shakes Up the NFL Draft

"Time last year to ten goodbye. Loa was the consensus number one overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft but when a devastating hip injury in November ended his season at Alabama his NFL future was cast into doubt now with new reports. That too is recovery is on track. Teams are debating whether his elite talent is worth the risk and the entire draft. Looks like mystery? I mean at times? It's Tuesday February. Eighteenth this is espn daily presented by ADT. Todd Todd mcshay is an NFL draft in college football analyst for ESPN so todd. The last time we saw Tunga Velo on a football field. He was getting started off with a hip injury and it ended his season and Alabama title hopes along with it. News broke last week regarding the status of his recovery. What we know now well first of all I was there that day and it was brutal to watch behind. He's down to us. Down Helmet came off. This is exactly what you did not want to see happen and I was probably ten. Maybe twenty yards away from him as the to. Mississippi state defenders converged on him. And you could just tell right away. Something was wrong but then I saw the bloody nose at first and they said the trainers got. The plastic wraps in there has the gloves on their hands and and I just thought all right. They're they're just taking care of his nose and he'll be done for the day and then he went to stand up and you could tell just how deep his knee drove his leg into his hip that something was seriously wrong so it's good to hear that he has passed his first test. If you will sources confirm to ESPN at the most recent tests show is healing well and has good range of motion to what could get back to football activities in a month if he continues to progress well and is now moving onto the second phase of of the Rehab and recovery stage. There's still a lot left to determine and there's still a lot of rehab to go so that's going to be the biggest thing in terms of his evaluation between now and late. April's draft is where is he? And what are the doctors really? Think about the long-term WanNa talk to you about his injury and the draft. And you know the time line for all of that but I I wanNA talk to you. About what a good football player he is because prior to that injury he was the base star in college football. And you've been watching him for a long time wind it I strike you. This guy's got this stuff how `bout that throw in the national championship talk. He had never started a game and now he's in the National Championship with the game on the line he was coming off of a bad play was able to shake it off. He's keeping his is down the middle of the field and he's working that safety just a little bit to the right. He's trying to move the safety as much as he can because if he does. He knows that he has Smith's breaking down the sidelines. The is move the safety just enough for him to go back to Smith and make the throw of the year. I mean he just knew the spot that he had to get it to and to come in the second half and to have the confidence to lead Alabama to a victory. That kind of told me everything about him. And from that point he kept developing. But if you go back and just really study his tape the things that make him special his deep accuracy is as good as you're gonNA say he's so quick twitch he's like a drew brees from the left handed side you know just how how works in the pocket and goes from one read to the next but keeps his is married to his feet. He fits what you want in today's NFL. But is he going to be healthy enough to with that hip recovery to to have that quick twitch nece and and the ability to to move as quickly as he has tie? You're around these players but also these programs. What did you hear about how to? Oh was handling the injury in his rehab process. Everyone loves him. There's a calmness and a poise about him that you rarely see with with college quarterbacks or any college player so. I'd like to leave you with this from one of my favorites McGraw songs. When you get where you're going don't forget turn back around and have the next one in line. Always stay humble and kind so confident but so humble talking. Nfl SCOUTS IN GM's not a negative word about him. He's a special human being and wherever he winds up going. He's going to be the face of the franchise obviously but he's kind of a culture changer if you will and and. I think that's part of the draw in part of his value. It's not just this injury right. He's had other injuries that have caused him to miss time. He broke a finger sprained. A knee injured his quad. The ankles even before all of this. How much of a concern with that? It's a big. It really is a big concern and the problem is if you study the history of it if you look back. I think it's the last ten years or seven quarterbacks that had college injuries there were first round draft picks that all of them have had some varying kind of durability issues in the NFL from Rg. Three to SAM. Bradford Shawn Watson Marcus Mariota Carson wentz Teddy Bridgewater Jake Locker. All of these guys have gone on to have injuries now. They're not always the same injuries. Some guys are are just injury-prone and just knowing. Nfl teams in the amount of time and the amount of studies that they do. Especially at this position. Especially with first round picks. That are going to cost you. When you're talking about quarterbacks in the top ten twenty to thirty five million dollars in guaranteed money they're doing the research on this and they all know this. You know your job over the course of these college football seasons you're not just evaluating these players you're thinking about where they'll be drafted if to ahead gun her at that point in the season where do you think he would have gone. I think he would be the first overall pick. I think if two was healthy Cincinnati would be taking to a number one overall. I really do if he didn't suffer that injury. We would be having a great debate between two a ton of Iowa and Joe Borough but ultimately my guess is that too would probably be the decision at Number One and knowing Cincinnati. They'd probably they do something to maybe move out of that spot. Make a mistake and let Miami or the chargers Carolina come up and get that pick. If I'm being honest he's he's better than Joe Borough and I love Jober but if you tell me these two guys are going to have ten year careers with no injuries. I'm taking two but then I've got a measure. R Joe Borough has been durable. Jost has shown the ability to kind of fight through pain a little bit more and to stay healthy and so. That's really the deciding factor. In my opinion I have to ask you know. Why do you think he's better than borough? I mean rose coming off of arguably the greatest season we've ever seen by college quarterback. What is it about two as game that you prefer? If I knew he was going to be healthy I think he just kind of fits a little bit better in terms of what what the NFL is today. Terms of getting the ball out quickly and being decisive and then also when you take shots down the field. But I I love Joe Borough to if I WAS CINCINNATI. I would take her over to because of the durability issues. Borough is worth the the first overall pick and I think Cincinnati would be making mistake if they didn't take jober tied. You have to take proof your analysis because you're gonNA get clipped saying to us better than Joe Borough and that's GonNa Follow you forever. You've been spending too much time around.
