Wall Street Week Ahead: After monster rally, investors cautious as U.S. recovery wobbles

"We start with that monster rally on Wall Street today the SNP up more than one and a half percent and the Dow jumping over four hundred points. As you can see there, the Nasdaq also up nearly two percent leading those markets, higher energy stocks, financials, and the small caps as well. Investors appearing hopeful a new deal for stimulus is coming down the Pike but markets are still down significantly for the month does today's action give you a reason to perhaps be more optimistic and for that perhaps I I will turn to you first. dominated. Welcome. It's always wonderful to have you on board got a bonus hour with you. So that's fantastic and you know I think the answer. Your question is yes but you can't say that in a vacuum something we talked about over the last couple of weeks was you probably see a short term market bottom on a day the market sells off and the volatility index sells off with it and you actually saw that. Over a few days, NOP can speak to this vicks topped out around thirty six, and as the market was selling off, the VIX was selling off down to the twenty five and a half level that gave you a pretty good indication that maybe we were going to bottom. I mentioned that because one of the things we said now for a while off that low that we made a week and a half or two. Weeks ago the obvious move at this point was probably a moved back to the prior all time high of thirty, three, ninety, three that we made back in February and Steve can speak to this because now does that make sense for that reason it also makes sense because it would be a text book, fifty percent correction of the recent, all time high and the low. We made a couple of weeks ago. So the. Answer is yes. But let's see what happens when we get there and when I say when because I do think we're GONNA rally another forty or so snp handles. All right. So Steve, let's bring you in because guy teed it up for you. There is this level is this a market right now the action you've seen that makes you feel as though you're comfortable being long comfortable putting new money to work right now. So I know everyone wants to have that gut instinct of being positive on the overall market and this market has shown you nothing. But positively, because that gap tom is closing from the corona bottom to when we finally actually restart the economy. But you talked about a couple of levels, fifty percents I'm sorry, the fifty day moving average I heard you talking about today on air thirty, three, fifty, three. So we closed right around that level that's why people are keying in on that level where did we bounce from the hundred day moving average which was thirty, two tech? So this is technically A great set up to play it for a bounce. But the problem is we still have what the problem was. We have an overbought market granted. We work that awful just a little bit. But what has been the most overbought the tech space the most bloated names, those six or ten names that we all focus on. Doesn't mean that. Have not. Rally doesn't mean that other sectors have doubt rally. But it's time to take a pause because the market and the economy or two totally different things. A lot of volatility going forward the biggest thing for me dumb month end quarter in this week. So I heard. I heard it was mentioned prior to us on closing bell I still think it's a big deal I. still think people were under weight energy. We had emanate today I still think people are underweight financials. We saw those rally today what sold off what rallied into month and I think that's what you have to keep an eye on. Let's see if it lasts a week or so Tim Seymour over the last week over the last five days of looking at our screens here it says that the big one of the bigger cloud computing. Is Up over three percent semiconductors that particular ETF the ticker SMH look at a lot is up over three percent right now for five trading days, we also saw financials and energy to Steve's point lead the rally today. So those are two different parts of the market both assuming some kind of leadership role does that then mean that there is this kind of all clear signal, the bad and the good are going up at the same time. Downgrade having you getting me to say you've got an all clear signal is something that's tough to do But I I hear where you are, and if you look at the triple cues and the Nasdaq one hundred, you've rallied almost six percent over three sessions. The semi's which they have multiple times over the last couple of years and certainly coming out of the worst dacoven to have have certainly been a leader and something to follow it. In fact, they've they've kind of lead the way. So both of these are now back over the fifty Todd Gordon will be your to talk some. Of the technicals and a bit, but you're talking about the broadening of the market and to the extent that maybe you're excited today about the move in retail and in small caps and along with that with the banks, and if you look at the European banks were up over three and a half percent. So these are the parts of the mark that I think people wanna see the good news for all investors. So back to at least where you've had an all clear and where I don't think anything has changed is the guys who talked about some oversold conditions I have to do that I. Think. The Nasdaq can contract can correct further down and I I mentioned kind of those late June early July levels but the Fed is still very much your I think the payroll numbers this weaker are going to give you some sense of where the labor market certainly is going to need a lot more fiscal health than just with monetary policy is but I think you've got a case where you've at least seen parts of the economy. Especially, the transports give you a lot of reason for confidence in terms of leadership and they lead you on the way down from two thousand, eighteen to. Twenty thousand nine hundred and transports have been outperforming the market for the last almost four months now. So many key bellwether esque type parts of the market that we're watching right now. So I'M GONNA turn now to Pete and Jerry, and I know that you're on the news line with us right now at CNBC let's talk a little bit about what you're seeing in terms of trading action there is there something that makes you feel as though this is a constructive environment or are we do for a little bit more consolidation perhaps even some more discount pricing in the coming weeks ahead of the election. Well I certainly could see the consolidation side of it. Tom. This. Also though in the derivatives world where I live I gotTA. Tell you something a lot of bullish activity over recent weeks and and it just continues to come come in now A. Lotta that short term today we are seeing a little bit longer term type offer. Options that we were seeing whether we're buying in major indices. So I'm not even just talking specific names or whatever. I'm just talking about indifferent indices across the board we're seeing some buying. So it felt like a bullish tone potentially, but not as much short-term as we had been seeing that makes it a little bit more interesting because it's very easy to sit there in the very short term in. This movement that we are seeing but to commit to buy those kind of premiums that you've got to to be able to go out to January and December that says a lot more about what the what, what they really are feeling those very large buyers out there in the marketplace. So volatility guy brought this up and I just have to address this real quick volatility was selling off all day. It was doing early then it started to sell off. We actually nearly closed on the absolute lows of the session, which was pretty interesting to see how that volatility index was coming down as market came down from being up five hundred down to four hundred yourself. A lot of different things going on right now. But certainly, there are sectors that I'm impressed with the do lead us a little bit. More so out where we have been recently light transports like material and a few other names I like seeing what we thought financial today. But that's one day. We haven't been able to see financial foot back to back to back days together for a very long period of time. So that nothing I think we got to watch very very closely. All

It is our champions edition of NASCAR live were chatting with Joey llegado getting ready for a champions week and getting set actually we've we've caught you a little earlier in the day here. I'm gonna go little behind the scenes here. You're headed devait us. What is what is Vegas? Go to be like as the champion. Now, man, we can't even wait pretty tight about it. I'm sitting in their port right now. Eating Mexican food. Wait, wait, not our flight. So this is the perfect time for this. And we're we're so about a look at the schedule, and they have something for me to do every waking minute all the way to about midnight every night. So a lot of fun things a lot of partying. So we're gonna have a great time out there. And and if you may nights the whole team's going to be there, and we get to celebrate together. So what a a special thing, you know. Usually, I gotta be honest, which I I don't look forward to the banquet most every year because. I hate sitting there watching somebody else that wanted to shows like it's a it's torture to me. So this year is gonna little difference. I'm kind of excited about that. No, don't some to be excited about get back from the banquet any any off season plans holiday plans. What's what's going on with a little Gano clan? Once we get back from the banquet got a a little four Wheeler trip coming up. That's good timing for the Racine. We're gonna do that and make a to Connecticut with with the family, and and that'll be fun. And then after that that's gonna be pretty much time to go again. We'll take a couple of weeks Choi have Christmas, and he it. It's funny. You know, when you're when you're in the industry, and you'll understand what I mean. Everybody's anniversary birthdays, everything comes in between December January. We say that stuff anybody that has a wedding. I it always in, you know, number January. So we'll stay busy with that stuff. Absolutely. Final question for your here on that on that trip to Virginia with with the gang. Are you guys you guys get competitive with union crew guys riding the four wheelers guys take some chances or do you kind of keep keeping lockdown? Well, the last thing to do is go back to Todd and that one got hurt. We got a bunch of players razors. And put a nice big row cage online to make sure I I don't get hurt. Because I have a hard time going slow. It's just like if the powers there. I gotta take it. But I will say I've got a little bit wiser my my older years not that I'm old yet. But I've at least know Eddie can't get hurt or can't afford to get hurt anymore. Be expensive. That's for sure. Joey, we appreciate the time. Joining us here on our champions edition of NASCAR live enjoy the week out in Las Vegas. Enjoy the off season you're Iran won't belong in Daytona. But congratulations again on the championship. All right. Sounds great. Thanks for having me. That's joy Lagaan always a pleasure to chat with him. Just what what what a cool kid. He is in great to see him achieve the success that he's had part of Roger Penske's championship. He's had thirty four driver owner championships. So absolutely amazing. The Joey Logano added to that one of the things I wanted to talk to Joe about, but we just ran out of time is getting Ford back to the manufacturers championship the first driver championship since Kurt Busch back in two thousand four and the first manufacturer's championship from two thousand since two thousand two actually it goes back nineteen ninety nine the last year that Ford is one the driver and the owner championship or the manufacturers championship that was when Dale Jarrett didn't nineteen wins the.

"I it was a time when you thought you'd lost your mind, but but but in seriousness why why did you choose to do that? Honestly, I think it recharges my battery. There's so many reasons why we have that you look on a foundation. But when you think of the chasing second chances program, I it is surrounded. It's supposed to be because of the chase. But the playoffs the name didn't work anymore. But. We did that because during the playoffs that's win. The most is our on our sport. That's when your lights are on and heart of what we our mission is to inspire other live life at generosity. And and when we can, you know highlight an organization at a, you know, a race market and not only impact them with a ten thousand dollar donation that we give any trace Strack, but also highlight what they're doing to generate more income and more awareness to what they're looking to to to with with their the civic foundation. And so I I really enjoy that. It's my y you know, why do I race? It's it's you know, it really helps me to be able to you know, understand. You know, what the fight is for and and and puts life into perspective or for being Brittany. So the most rewarding thing we do for sure. And you know. Yeah. The night before Miami rates. We went to negoti store. Down the road. And we had a great event given one hundred families that I think's giving dinner that that they, you know, without that wouldn't had so, but that to me is like I said, it recharges my batteries, and it's so special to see the following when it gets behind it, you know, from the race fans to our partners that are on the car. Everybody really gets behind what we're what bringing you're trying to do and and day, and I guess at the end of the day in Brittany says it's the best 'cause she she taught me this one, but she has into question one day when you're laying on your death bed. Do you went trophies or people and my answer that every time I want both possible because you can use those trophies and that that popularity that comes along with it to really affect a lot of people's lives. So that's the reason why we do it more. I'll tell you what that's a beautiful thing. It really is. Let's talk a little bit about perspective. Okay. You talked about with the chasing second chances during the playoffs. But twenty eighteen also saw Hudson come into your life, your little boy what what? What is what is that? Whether it's the charitable work or now being a dad, how is that changed your perspective as a man as a racecar driver. How's that change things? I think honestly as a as a man that it's changed my perspective on racing a lot. You know, not that I destroyed it or think it as not as much of a big deal as I did before. But allows me to relax a little bit. And enjoy the moment a little bit more. You know, everyone always talked about before we had a kid that you know, you you're gonna have a bad day of the tracking come home, and he goes seems mile and everything's gonna be okay. And you're like, yeah. Okay. We'll see about that. But it's true. You know and healing here will the see him. And and realize that it's racing is my job in. It's it's my passion. And I love it. But it's nowhere near as big as being a dad and being a good dad at that. So jazz a lot harder to be a good dad sometimes championship chart driver. It's been so survey warding for Brady United today to to bring a little into this world. And we have a lot of challenges ahead of us in a lot of lessons that we're going to learn and he didn't have to raise his parents as much as we're trying to raise him to be. A fun a fun environment fun experience for for both of us that to get through as as we go along. So that's the coolest thing. That's happened. This year far surpasses the championship which I never knew. I would say that working for a championship for what twenty twenty something years. Definetely reached that? I can honestly say that. Yeah..

"You know, find a weaknesses identify him. And and and be able to start working on him. So it takes a while to identify where your way you're off. And finally be able to make the changes in that that you need to make an and then get them to the racetrack. It it's a process that takes a wild. See that. Like, I said the timing worked out the best. No doubt worked out. Well, that's for sure talk about you've mentioned along the way working for Roger Penske and driving for Roger Penske to to to win him the championship on the year in January. He's going to be inducted into the NASCAR hall of fame. And he's going to be inducted as the current champion. How how how cool is that? That was learn to close moments, and I it didn't hit me. I think about that. But Todd reminded me in your Laney said graduates going in the hall of famous champion like oh my goodness. That's just the to me wanna cool things that you can give to him because he's Abbas. He's accomplished so much need so deserving to be into the hall of fame. Whether we win the championship or not but for him to go in. As champion. It's about the only thing I can give him. He he doesn't that. I can at least afford for. So to me that is something that's very special. I can't wait to watch that night. And and see him received the really the largest honor in our sport that you can receive that like I said very much as in improv should have been years ago for sure yeah. Great story. People don't has right now on M R dot com about Roger Penske and the season. It was what are you? What where did you meet? What was your first time you ever met Roger Penske? First time I ever met him really talked to him. It was kind of weird it was Medicare. Remember what year was but Michelle Obama came to Miami. And you probably remember this remember security everywhere, and we were trying to drivers meeting, but they had everything roped off because she hadn't become an in right before the drivers menia. And we thought we're going to miss Jarvis meeting because we couldn't walk across the road there. We are on NCO. But we couldn't go from the motorhome to with the time. "To do you think you will be similarly snubbed during the impending awards banquet in Vegas, Gregory with the? Honestly, I don't care, and I don't want to come across the wrong way is because you wanna celebrate with with your team. Right. And that that's really the ones that are most important are the ones that are there for you the whole time. But and I can honestly say, you know, what I'm not maybe the most I'm not maybe the best sportsman out there having great sportsmanship. I don't really like to lose. And really anyone to come over and shake my hand. Because I don't think I'd really do it either. Anyway, you know, I never hard time going up to someone saying good job kick my. But today, I am. I don't really expect them to do it either. So I guess it doesn't really bother me. You know, what I mean is this kinda it's okay? You know, the school to the ones that did I thought that was really cool. I have a lottery spec for people better showing enough to do that. I was impressed to cope earn came up to us and victory lane. And didn't did not expect that at all. But I have a lottery spectrum that to be able to do that. So I thought that was a. Three neat. Yeah. Yeah. That have been on my list of long shots. That's for sure. But, but but you mentioned some of your competitors at homestead didn't just of new garden willpower. And you got tweeted by Mario Andretti now. Was that? Jiji is hero. I wanna be Mario Andretti someday. And I know I never will be. He is as a gotten to do a few things with them with with, you know, Pennzoil autozone and Magna flow all kind of the same partners. So that we both have together. Joe I get to be around on quite a bit lately and to get to know him. He's always been a hero of mine is as a kid so being another talion racecar drivers something really cool to me. So I always tell maybe the coolest thing that I've ever received in my racing career is is after when Daytona five hundred he sent me a picture of himself in victory lane. And if it finally another Italian win, the Daytona five hundred and I thought to still sits next to the trophy to this as that picture that he sent me. And that says probably one of the coolest thing do they had his picture hanging on the wall. When I was six seven years old in my bedroom. Yeah. It was that was I don't know is really cool to be able to get to know him. And and you know, sometimes you don't wanna meet your heroes because you don't want it to be a letdown with him. It's not at all, you know. He's just the coolest guy hardcore. Racer any still giving rides at two hundred miles an hour, and those the two-seater IndyCar, so he's still crazy. After all these years. "And it was a great effort to see everybody put together when you look at the forty caboose four hundred and the whole weekend. It seems to me in looking at it with with twenty twenty vision. Hindsight you guys had a pretty good game plan. You had a great short run speed, which which which tends to happen down. There. Was there a game plan and how much did that whole weekend? Go to the plan actually, probably more so than than than what people want want want to lay out there. You know, we we look at we looked at how how this race played out since we've gone to this. You know, homestead being the only race for four cars and. We've always had a late caution. There's been a caution that that leads us to a short run fuel stint or last history said we got it. We would get it. I I wouldn't. I'd be lying to you. If I wasn't a little nervous about our plan. And watching the truck racing races. They went you know, green flag runs to the end. But we had that we needed to have short run speed to take advantage of the end and have enough long run speed to make our to keep ourselves competitive. In hunt to be good position. So working L weekend. We speed in both practices. Our fire off speed was was really good and something we had worked on and and put joy in a position with a with a caution with twenty to go to to do what he does and elevates us at two to two situation. We had I'll tell you what he drove the wheels off that call weekend long, but those last few laps he was just a elbows up and rolling with Todd. Most of us will never be in the spot sitting on a pit box watching your car. Patiently waiting for it to come out of turn number four to have that moment. What what is that like as a as a crew chief as a as a man as a competitive guy that wants to win every time he climbs the top to put bucks. What is that moment? Like when when when mission accomplished it was it was settling for my heart because of the five laps prior to that. I think I think my heart was beating external my chest. It was a it's a it's just a I think the anxiousness of of what's going to happen and being prepared for if a caution comes what are we gonna do for the for the you know, the ten laps prior to that point. But once we got the white flag. I think there's a little bit of a relief to that. Because you know, once you've taken the white that the next the next flag is going to is going to end the race. So, you know, once we got the white. It was a great place, and then just trying to make sure that we where we raised around lap traffic. I think I think I I was I was in the spotters ear pretty hard about the fact we had a one point six or one point seven second lead. And didn't need to do anything. Crazy. But as you came off, turn four and comes to view it. It's it's a relief. Have I think because you know, you go into the racin, and you dream about the opportunity to to send Roger Penske into the NASCAR hall of fame as a current Cup champion. And we accomplish that goal that was that was probably the first thing that came to mind is just just trying to perform for for Roger. And and everything that he's provided for us. You know, an accomplishment and one that wasn't total team. Effort hickory did a phenomenal job. Joey drove his trove of Scots out a great plan that was executed. A I think very well. When we when we look at the captain Roger Penske, and by the way, peop- Stony has a great article right now on what a year it's been for for Roger Penske can find that on Amazon dot com. "Program this year. Thank you, Kyle another big news story coming on the personal level is Kyle Busch. And Samantha announcing that Brexit is going to have a sibling. So big news in the Bush household, and of course, it's been a struggle as they worked through some of the Mets. Challenges before the championship race at homestead Kim. Kuhn talked to Kyle Busch about overcoming those challenges. Even Samantha have been documenting your IBF journey and efforts to have a second child where are you in the journey right now? And what's been the response from the fans in the industry in documentation. We are we've Samantha's been implanted with the embryo, and we have to wait twelve days before we're able to go back for pregnancy. Test to see what it shows, and she gets blood results and everything like that. Because they find out more in blood than they do just taking a regular pregnancy tests. So we won't know that until after homestead, but we'll still keep everybody up to date and posted on what's happening as through social as it happens with the season coming to a close here. But you know, the response and the feedback from everybody's been phenomenal. You know, I've had more people tell me that they've had kids through IVF than I ever thought happened L. It's been fans it's been people in the garage area. Tell me this and. You know, I think just a year ago or a year and a half ago. The Kardashians had to come out and say that they had to go through IVF or whatever for their third child. And then just last week or the week before I heard that Michelle Obama admitted that they had to go through IVF. So it's crazy. I think that the word is kind of spreading and getting out there. And and it's not becoming so much of taboo as it is normalcy. That a lot of people's struggle being able to conceive for a child, so I give Samantha full credit on that. And being the brave one to go out there and say, hey, we got problems we can't conceive. So when we're in the doctor's office, and we give him a high five thanks for thanks for helping us out. Have you gotten responses from fans or industry people that have said, wow. I didn't know you had decide side when they look at what you've done with the bundle of joy foundation or fund outside to seeing you outside of the race car in the racetrack. No, not really in that sense. You know, I think people have kind of seen the foundation work that we've done over the course of the years and people kind of wondered what exactly it is. And how it works and all. That. So I think giving them more of the story in the inner workings of what all happens, and what a process this is what a challenge it is. And how expensive it is? And how hard it is on the on the girl, especially that. You know, it's it's really eye opening. Have you kept Brexit in kind of what role is he had in the stuck mutation in this journey. Well, back in the beginning when we were talking about a second child. You know, we were asking Brexit about it. Hey, do you want to be a big brother? Do you want a little sister? And he was like gross. No, you know. So then we we kind of went down the path of all, right? Well, let's by the book and a couple stories read them some things about how cool it can be to be a bigger brother and that worked and now he's kind of turned to page, and he was like, you know, what do you think about a younger sister? And he's like, yeah. Okay. And then we were like, all right? Well, if we have a younger sister, you know, if you have a younger sister, what are you going to call her a baby going? So you know, that that's her name right now is key. So yeah, I don't think that'll ever live down either. But overall, he's been really really fun with it. And he every night. Now, he always comes up to mama and wants to talk to talk to baby donkey whose inner belly. So it's fun. Great stuff from Kyle Busch there, and yes, they did announce on Twitter recently that they are indeed expecting a baby girl. So Brixton is going to have a sister. Great news from the Bush family. "Guys rustler's used to say to be the man, you gotta beat the man, and that's certainly what you've been doing lately d- do you think confidence is an underrated aspect of racing when you compare it to other sports and pumpkin hits is everything. It is literally everything. I remember back to my sprint car days. Whenever you get confidence and even it, it translates to stock cars to you. Whenever you have confidence, you look at situations so much differently. You know, you could be buried back in eighth twelfth place, and you know, whenever you have confidence, you're like, oh, this is easy. I'll just go to the top here. Go to the bottom here zig-zagged through this corner and to the front. We go. Would you describe it. And then you, you lose your confidence and it's like, man, I'm sitting here in twelve. How am I going to do this? There's so many cars in front of you, and it's it. Confidence is a funny thing because it's so hard to build up yet. It's so easy to tear down. Yeah, and that's what the good guys are able to do is just keep that confidence and know that they're, no, they're the best certainly is before we let you go, Knoxville, nationals coming up. Are you going to be there and what's your dirt schedule look like for the rest of the season? Or do you know yet? Yeah, unfortunately, I, there won't be any Knoxville nationals for me not going to be able to do it with the road course races coming up this next two weekend. But as far as my dirt racing, I don't really know what's going on. I was able to raise a lot throughout the the middle for the beginning parts of summer through June July because there's a lot of speed weeks going on, and it makes it easy to go race on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. But now the speed weeks are kinda slowed down and there's not a lot of Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Racing going on. So I haven't really am on top of that. We don't have any awfully. So it's making it tough to find a scheduled to lay out or race to go run. So I don't really know what I got going on for the dirt. So just trying to pick and choose what race track I want to go to, and you know, we'll, we'll see what happens in the future, but I don't have anything scheduled right now. The calendar often takes precedence for sure. We'll Christopher congratulations on three straight wins will be watching this week and see if you can get four and a really strong start to the season man. It's been fun to watch for. Sure. Thank you. That's Christopher bell. And what he came from earlier today coming up. Next we're gonna go face to face with Kurt Busch. And later we'll talk with Todd Gordon about setting up a race car at Watkins, Glen in a sport driven by celebration..

"Little bit i mean overall the threes it's just so flat so tough that getting down in that corner you have to get your car set up pretty well to make sure you're not getting free in so back in that corner up in a big arc down in there and carrying much cd to throttle as early as you can't down at three enforce kind of the secret trick i guess what i found that last couple of years so just gotta continue to do that i know we're probably going to have a race car like i said our mom half stuff in pretty good this year and we just need that to keep working on it and make sure that you know we're gonna have a good car for it well in in the interest of full disclosure you're taking a trip to the midwest for the slinger nationals which is where you're joining us from right now you win at daytona on a saturday you're at slinger on tuesday and you're obviously going to kentucky on thursday and friday for the whole race weekend there for the folks that don't know the big deal about the slinger nationals bring them up to speed on why this raises a huge race in the late model world waited a big race in the super late model world it's you know the mid west is really kinda heartland for supers than where i grew up racing and swingers place always wanted to get the chance to come run at and especially physically the slayer nationals and getting over here two years ago i got your for the first time and now back here with another opportunity run this race it's just one that's always kind of been on my bucket with to to win at and became really close your two years ago and you know hopefully we can we can get it closed out this time awesome awesome racist you know about thirty forty cars erasing for twelve guys get locked in qualifying they only started about twenty two so it's a it's a tough race to get in and it's a tough race to win that's what what makes it fun to me the challenge of how often do you get to go super late model racing these days now that your fulltime cup driver not much i i haven't been in a super in about a year this is my first time back and while so it's been fun to get back in one of these cars and kind of get reacquainted with them and and what they're all about and you know do a little bit more last year with the senate race and the cup racing was super busy and this year with a couple only schedule still really busy but you know have a little bit more time to come on some of these races so whatever's mid week show i try to come up take advantage of that and get up here run a little bit and this was this is kind of the first one i had an opportunity well we're preaching that took the time to join us here on nascar live congratulations on winning daytona all the best trying to pick that checkered flag up in the slinger nationals and well we'll see what you got form this weekend kentucky all right sounds good thanks dan thank you that's eric jones winner of the coke zero sugar four hundred saturday night at daytona international speedway coming up we'll look back on the events of this week in nascar history and we'll preview this week's quaker state four hundred kentucky welcome back to sports view today's.

"You adjust to not having kyle denney or daniel on the racetrack with you there at the end but made it a little more difficult at the end you know i was just trying to honestly find martinair towards the latter half of the rose figure out what he was doing where he was and it had a really fast carl weekend off really well and really well early in the race so just to find him and make sure i could get as much as i could for martin and actually at the end of worked out to where i gave him good shove you get us up the first and second there from from the top lane on the first overtime he start and at the end we got to to battle out there was pretty cool to get racist mark at the end you know obviously and being my team last year having shot race in there for for the checkers and so it was pretty fun chatting with jones who took the checkers and the coke zero sugar four hundred saturday night at daytona international speedway what type of game changers this we mentioned that you're these seventh driver to get qualified for the playoffs so what's next for you in the race team how much of this win was a game changer for you and the rest of the guys here in the last few remaining races of the regular season hi what game changing you know we really we're gonna good position point point our way in and we wanted to get your daytona with a solid day and make sure we take ourselves out of the opportunity to point our way in but obviously a win was wanted to do here in the next time nine races ten before daytona but getting that win is really just a huge relief i mean we don't have to worry about points at all and get ourselves locking the playoffs now all we you know have to worry about is getting playoff points as we can and trying to you know get ourselves and good spot for the first round of the playoffs to have a little bit of a points cushion to advance through to the second round and i'm excited animates my first play it's a neat opportunity to go out and be a part of that group and race for championship and excited to see what the playoff really all about and i'm be part of it well you joining your teammate kyle busch already locked dan looks like denny's gonna make it in now just daniel suarez needs to do a little work to get in there and make it the four car fleet of j are in the play offs give us a little preview of kentucky this weekend fairly new repaid race track seems like that some things are different about it some nuances what are some of the challenges that you and the team are going to face this weekend the quaker state four hundred kentucky's a track for sure you know after the repave with me figuration wanted to and changing how that corner was you carrying so much speed off to out into such a flat enter turn three it makes it pretty challenging to get down in there and and not get loose in carry a lot of speed through there so it's a tough track but it's fun i i enjoyed it every time i've been there and enjoy the the old surface next enjoy nacer just as much so it's it's definitely fun i i enjoy getting to go there and mom have been pretty good to us this year really well at chicago and hopefully carry some momentum from daytona and kentucky and get another good good run i know that you mentioned turn dri as as basically being unique or odd of heard the same thing from some other drivers how do you approach going into three i've heard from some that you have to totally re thinks a couple of things on corner entry and do things differently on that mile and a half than you would some of the other set you rice on yeah you do a.

"Is called the nineteen ninetythree season twenty five years later it was this week twenty five years ago that we lost davey allison way way too soon they will run the miller five hundred at pocono international raceway in pennsylvania today the grandstands are full the sun is shining the festival like colors are rich and brilliant but harsher heavy a member of the family is gone thirty two years old davey allison died on tuesday morning in his native alabama the victim of a tragic helicopter accident the day before davies close friend and fellow driver brett bodine i was in new england visiting some relatives when i got the news and by the time i got to birmingham david already passed was a very very hard time and i begged him not to get that damn helicopter begged him not to his great pilot you know of aircrafts flying a helicopter was different kettle of fish just lost a great friend close friend and fellow alabama gang member red farmer was in the helicopter when it crashed is hard i get david getting that helicopter and he knows it i told him don't think something happened to day don't glad to stop they've drop like a rock up to did not made to fly a wing them you know to get all together he went about a helicopter anyway and he'd had it for months and months and i never would get him at i've never been when that part broken that thing that made their the rotors get all shape and stuff in the car started going crazy and control it only turn up that when we come we hit the ground he was still fighting that thing trying to drive it he'd never quit the minute he was still trying to control it all the way down and i think that threes and i still got to brace myself in my hands operation silence car and i put my arm brace myself before we hit but he was still own the control he wasn't that he had he he got hurt worse than i did because he didn't brace yourself like i did i knew something happened so i i myself but he was still trying to control it but the last minute since crew chief chiefly mcreynolds recalls the moment team owner robert gates told him the news he said davies in trouble and i knew davey periodically would say something the people or say something to the press that would kinda get himself in hot water so i'm thinking oh my god what is he said what is he done now and robertson no he's crashed at helicopter and so yeah this i want to say it was around two or three o'clock eastern time on monday afternoon and we didn't have a lot of details we didn't have a plane then with robert gates racing because again we flew with with davy lot so felix about us was good enough to fly robert and carolyn carolyn yates in myself and my wife linda we flew late afternoon early evening to to birmingham and which straight to the hospital and set there in the waiting room just kind of waiting in periodically liz davies wife would go back there and see him and she came back out one time and she says larry you wanna go back there and see and i said liz is he alert and she said he's not and i said i don't i just i just didn't have a good feeling and i wanted to remember davy like he was when he got off that airplane at night i didn't see him with tubes and hoses and wires layin basically like a vegetable laying in an emergency room and obviously later on that evening he passed away so i was glad with my decision if i felt like i could've went back there and he would have known who i was i would have went back there in a heartbeat outta kick the door off the hinges but i just knew he was not there.

"It coming up for the wroval in addition to drivers being all over the track you're going to let fans get out there tell me about it you know i was really excited when we started talking about this opera tune ity to to not only give the driver's chance to to get out there and check out the new roble and for the ones that hadn't been on a yet it's going to be big deal for them but then of course so many fans talking about the wroval and to to have an opportunity for them to get on the track drive themselves i think it's one of those you'll lifetime opportunity a lot of people really won't have a chance to to make it and and i think if you're anywhere around charlotte you wanna get to the roble and and give it tried to they have to promise not to tear if your grass you know and it's just kind of understood we we have to talk about it that's hopefully hopefully something that none of them have trouble keeping on the track tell me about the process of getting this all going you've tweaked it a couple of times based on some driver comments when they practice on it what have you done to to the original design of it yes great question we've had so much input and feedback on the design over the last couple of years we've really been tweaking it and perfecting it started off with drivers like max path is and jeff gordon i had feedback from mario andretti we we've had so many people out on the course and it's really been helpful to have a lot of good feedback and it we started with traditional design that we've had for years when i was a kid we watched a love washing the camel gt that was you know a sports car race out on the track and and then we just went to the next level the next level beyond that so what people see charlotte motor speedway in september four the race will be something completely different it will be a speedway that it it's gonna feel like charlotte but it's also going to feel like somewhere else somewhere new and different and and still very special obviously the dimensions are different but when you look at it just with the the naked eye it kind of has a feel for similar to how the rolex is where you use part of the big track and part of the infield sure yeah it's it charlotte and daytona both have this infield portion where you can connect the oval to the road course and create the roble i think you know the the opportunity to to do that in nascar for the first time is really special force charlotte i think.

"Eric joan scoring his first win the monster energy nascar cup series and that's how it sounded with this week's nascar live backtracks this weekend we move forward from the sunshine state to the bluegrass state it's the quaker state four hundred at kentucky speedway and recently are woody cain had a chance to talk with jodie gone crew chief todd gordon about the challenges that they will face kentucky this weekend while once they reconfigured it with the backing that they added to one and two it really just connected to ends kentucky is always been a place that you really struggle with getting car have security or it doesn't want us out getting into turn three because it's kind of flat and you turn into the corner before you're really picked banking out so the cars kinda light in not into the race track getting in the corner and now the banking they added to one and two you exit turn to with a lot more speed so you enter turn with a lot more speed which makes holding loose into the owner worse but i think the cars that cars that are successful there figure out how to get through one in to still have some security get into turn three race while that way how does it compare to texas since that was reconfigured as well interesting because texas reconfigure in the opposite direction they took banking out a one two in left banking's reinfore and you you would think the two ends are aren't the same because the re the back straightaway these race tracks is straight in the front straightaway has a has a dog in it so turn one he got his big arkin corner that you're entering the corner with a with a fairly large radius security intern one's not so bad because you've got a bank trial and you've got a bigger arc that you get into it just just for the race track and then turn three you enter at titus part of the radius you've gotta make the most turn out of it to get into turn three and then that arc opens up as you leave turn four so the entry to one is a lot easier than entry to three when you when you did it like they did at texas they took banking out which actually slowed one and two and the accident to speed out down relatives accident four and your entry to three is at a slower speed so texas is banking change actually may be connected the corners a little bit more entry where kentucky's disconnected not that that's bad it puts good racing different exactly it's different when we've we've gone about what three years now into the repaved there how how is that new surface doing and how does it hold up with tires yeah it's it's it's a challenge for goodyear obviously because you know when we get a new surfaces tana grip in it and they've got a good years got to build more durability and take grip tire they just make so much heat so i think it's been good i think the weekend's pretty sketchy to start with and as we run through the events through the weekend by the time we get the end of the cup race the place almost winds out to to groups so it the racing the racing continues to get better throughout the weekend for us in the racetrack does and it and it starts to gain some with and it's hopefully it's gotten to the point this year where there's two groups to that end does the tire dragon have much impact there when they try that it does i think the biggest thing that is higher dragon has has has afforded us is eight see if they drag it above the groove shenice yeah and that's that's a struggle for them to understand it's if i took a racetrack emitted completely green even though you've you've commentated and call all these races it'd be hard to walk out on.

"Way too long so we're not gonna wait that long again and crew chief gonna break it down for us here mr todd gordon not jeff that's right jeff that's a great woman momentum builder i think you know the season's gone on we've we've worked on trying to make ourselves better you know it's it's it's very well documented we had we had a very struggle struggle through the year last year and we ended the year with a little momentum and direction and i think i think everybody dug in the off season to try to figure out where we needed to go and we've been doing that we haven't quite gotten to this position but a racetrack where i think joey logano is one of the one of the best plate where plate racers think brad as well and they work off each other and it's it's a great accomplishment to get ourselves playoff eligible and and carry this momentum forward because it's it's the next step from what we've what we've had several top ten finishes this year and we got the captain japan sqi well you know obviously joe in the winter we had to encumbered finish back in richmond into get that off his back and you know after a number races and see him execute today i think it was really a well laid out plan when you think about where the four dran all day i mean i think we talked about it with a teams and people work with each other and i think that makes the difference in our cars we won two stages which was you know was critical and then joey had a strong car take my hat off to really todd to that car together and you've got to look at the route shades short power which was unbelievable today those cars of crunchy could move from the back to the front and.
