"Been on a horse. When I was four, being led around a paddock. I was either green enough or stupid enough to not realize that if that happens, I was in cast as this part that if you lie like that in an audition, you then in the three weeks between when you do the thing and then you have to get on a horse, you probably go and learn. You take a few lessons. Something some sign ups in my brain just didn't consider that. So I found myself in Lithuania, we were shooting Vilnius Lithuania was passing for Elizabeth in England. And there was a moment when they built this elizabethan street. It was a cobbled long, long cobbled street. There were huge gigantic cranes with rain machines. There was a balcony at the end where Helen Mirren dressed in all her finery Toby Jones. I'll not forget. Jeremy Irons was standing there hundreds of background extras. I was at the other end with Hugh dancy, being placed on this massive stallion. I was having spurs attached to my feet. There were 23 Lithuanian horse stuntmen behind me. And it was at that moment. That I began to regret. Not having, but I was too having or basically having lied. But at that point, as you can imagine, too far in, to do anything about it. And so they call action, and I give this horse nudge with my spurs, and we're meant to be Manning a coup attempt when it's charged down this thing. And charge we did. Because I ended up just clinging on to dear life, covering my arms with one hand. Hurtling through these carriages were meant to be coming the other way. They were sort of spinning off to one side, rain machines were collapsing. It was a complete shit show. And Tom hooper emerged from behind Helen Mirren with a big loud speaker and said you're a fucking liar red man. And

"Exactly i love if you're a good actor that's possible and if you're not a good actor and then whatever i mean if you wanna do method for you know your craft or whatever but don't i just hate when it's used as an excuse to be addicted to people because it feels like that's where it usually goes. What about yelling at a p a is going to make this movie better for you right. Yeah the only actor who should be going method and like staying in that character. All the time is ben wisha as paddington. Yeah or alpha moina with doc. I'd let him so just spitballing. Charlie's is great. I feel like i mean. We're gonna be talking about her a lot today. I am so interested to hear what your plot celebrate. This is going to be. Because i think honestly i'll learn i. Well let me just give this disclaimer. This recap might not make any sense because again. I'm not sure how. Clearly i understand this movie but i i did watch it twice to prep for this episode. I really did my best to make this. Recap is clear as possible. But shrug who knows how it's going to go So he s. Here's the recap okay. We are in berlin. It's november nineteen eighty nine right before the fall of the berlin war wall. Yep let me try that again. Everything's going right before the fall of the berlin wall. We see a man. James gascoyne get murdered by a kgb agent named boxton then we cut to lorraine that's charlotte's therein Or thrown i-. Everyone's name in this episode is just gonna really trip me up it. Has it a little bit of accent on everything. So that's my moseley. Charlie's he's in london. She's in london. She's all bunged up. She's drinking vodka on ice which growth and her hair atomic blonde. she's british intelligence so like m. i six had to google. Mis six is is that i think that's roughly equivalent to like american cia okay. That's what i learned. Julia child in an early version of that right. Okay if you want the becomes. Julia child trivia. Then i'm like. Oh wait i now. We're speaking my language. And she goes to a debriefing where toby jones is there and so is john goodman from the cia. And they're like. Hey lorraine what happened in berlin. And then the movie cuts back and forth between this like debriefing and flashbacks of like what's actually happening in the story. What would have been really helpful. Is if toby jones and john goodman turned to camera and recap the cold war. It would've been super nice because this plot requires that you have a pretty thorough understanding of the cold war. The allegiance is and exactly what was going on at the end of nineteen. Eighty nine Yes yes i admittedly know so little about the cold war that i am embarrassed to admit how little i know about it I know that it was something about communism. And i know a little bit more now because i found a website that is The cold war explained for children. So i found this really helpful resource that explains to children. What the cold war was link it in the description and now i have a slightly better understanding but Yeah i just. I did not learn about those in history class and i don't know anything about it iconic. Thank you so much okay so then. We flashback to ten days earlier where toby jones is explaining to lorraine that immunity has been promised to a stasi officer code named spyglass in exchange for a document aka the list which is hidden in a wristwatch which contains names of every active clandestine officer currently in berlin. And all the shady things that they're into. I do kind of love that. I love the riddle inside of a riddle. It's all very. Has i feel smart. It's like national treasure. There's a clue inside a clue inside a clue if like the davinci code catholic and then you put the word apple in and it goes. Guess what that's code good grief so this is and then they say like this information if it falls into the wrong hands will extend the cold war for another forty years. The stakes are high. Really high state groundhog's day. Yeah so they think the man who killed gascoyne at the beginning of the movie now has this list. and everyone's looking for him including percival. That's james mcevoy. Who is in berlin. And then i think it's a flashback. Flashback to him talking to spyglass telling him that gascoyne never showed up with the list. But spyglass is like. Hey don't worry. I memorized it. So then lorraine heads to berlin to link up with percival. There's a mysterious woman who is following her. There's a few fight scenes. Where like the kgb pretending to be british intelligence show up and try to trick her but she beats the shit out of them with a shoe. Oh felt good meanwhile boxton. The guy with the list didn't report to his like soviet powell's the main guy they're being brnovich And they're realized that he's going to basically betray them and sell it on the black market. Yes then we cut back to lorraine she's trying to find this list. But there's also this traders. Double agent with codename satchel. Who is on the list and who lorraine is trying to expose or keep hidden. I don't know at this point in the movie around like ooh. there's too many. There's too many macguffin and i'm gonna get confused. Okay there's a. There's a list is out of a watch. But now they're satchel and i'm gonna get lost..

"He never. There's certain people that just don't have opportunities like opportunities. They're just they're stuck in this cycle and and and and then and then you got somebody that helps them and opens certain doors for them and i just. I was really moved by this by this movie. I was really moved by this movie. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was a very emotional movie. I it's a very simple script. It really is but man it's there there's something about like and the young girl that plays prayer is is really good like this when she skateboarding. And she's she's feeling this this freedom and this joy i mean there's like this real look like happiness on her face and i don't know man. I was really moved by this movie. I thought it was. I thought it was phenomenal but stephanie. I don't i think you have a cold heart or something. I did hard coral storage all the time. I'll give it tasted. I do think it was a good movie I think that the main actress the young girl. I thought she was great. I agree. I think the angle with which the story was told was great. It was simple but simplicity fit it. Very well I didn't care for the key jessica. The character from europe. That comes in and like i think they focus too much on her story that i didn't care about her all that much and so i didn't need her and i think they focused a little bit too. I think they tried to get to care about her person. And i was just so invested in a little girl and her brother even That i didn't really just. I just kind of do need that. And you'll sometimes that makes movies more palatable for people from other countries watching but i didn't. I didn't necessarily need that character. I thought the story was cute. I thought it was heartfelt and the ending was insanely predictable. But in a really good way i think the only reason i'm not giving it a high tasted or a higher rating is just because i felt like i was forced fed a bit like of empathy towards the torch jessica character of the woman that comes in and gets them interested in skateboarding. And then i didn't really need that but the story doesn't move without her like it doesn't go anywhere without her. I don't mind being in the film. But i don't care why she's no why she's there and like her not accepting the job offer to stay like all of those things like i don't need i didn't need that extra i didn't need that fluff i think i think we do need to find out why she's there like why she's trying to connect with with with those kids and i it worked. It all worked for me. I don't know i'm just a. I'm a pussy apparently drip drip sorry l. Fucking now now. Now i've been christened drip drip god. Damnit matt you're halfway through the up. I at the moment. I get high taste. It probably going to be a latin finished it. It's it's really a heartwarming story. Really enjoying it. Some of the acting a little bit. Spotty from the of the english and american cost. But i think all the all the native cast do so well on the little boy. Her brother is phenomenal. I mean he's onscreen performance. So yeah i can see where stephanie says. It's a bit predictable. Because i can already see what's going to happen but nevertheless i do. Love a good heartwarming story. Yeah people overcoming situations is clearly one of those and actually. I was really surprised how easy i found it to watch the subtitles. Normally find them that. They're moving very quickly. But this was very easy to read and understand what was going on without having to concentrate too much on them. I agree with that as well. Yeah i felt that way too i. Yes it's super heartwarming. I'm just a big fucking. Come off. Like i got rough edges. But i'm a super soft when it comes to shit and fuck in underdog story brian. It is an underdog story. I'm a sucker underdogs me new or both suckers for underdog stories and that were huge like a bad news bears rocky fucking and me and you have gone on record talking to each other through facebook messenger about our feelings about the dark knight rises and how your bats an underdog story as well like why that hits with us so we i am a sucker for underdog stories. I really am like any even sports documentaries. Where you've got like these like well fucking hoosiers matt. Small basketball team in indiana gene. Hackman all my god. I'm a sucker underdog stories and this. This is another one infinite. This is a big one. This is this. Is this hit paramount. Plus and science fiction movie with mark wahlberg. It's inspired by d. eric. Making micron's two thousand nine novel titled the reincarnation est papers it tells the story of a secret group of continuously reincarnated people that battle an evil madman bent on world destruction for centuries centers around. "I say without carol yet. Way lucky just goes about his life just getting what he wants by asking for it and also into. Yeah like you know how often we're kind of like if you don't see that kind of thing and he he just is. it wasn't even like phoenix. People felt sorry for me is like the more fell in love with him as a person and he's personality so it's it kind of starts off with him as he was a clown like working is a clown but he got fired. I think he something happened But he ended up. Becoming walking. Stokes e football club is a kitman slush team moscow for for the manager lou macari at the time and then he will get another job. We didn't even get your base. He just hangs around my unity and becomes kind of like a student liaison officer like not even knowing asked him is unpaid. He basically just hang around like talk to the students like everyone in love with him and fifty s later. We ended up getting on degree from there. It's just it's such a lovely feel good film just like radio just just nice and what was cool things as well So the guy who plays newborn toby jones he's brin- and but no boots actually appears from time to time in the film. Oh wow like. There's a scene where taibbi jones is sitting on the bench. Then looks his left in voting. That and they have like a chat like vice-like he's actually like is twin to random person. He's talking to new all amazing. He's kind of like asking him. How did you feel when this happened. Kind of thing. And like the Of the and then there's like a couple like lou macari. Who i said was the stick. See at a time. I'm here was also playoff. Football platform by my favorite not mentioned knighted and he also appears in the film luckily cameo at the end with like the actor. He plays just just really cool film. Everyone at like Went through song with a learning to people picking on him especially like the kind of football environment. Like like you know lads imbros and that kind of stuff like in the changing rooms but then people like fell in love with him in fact even on as he made like a an appearance full society as a saab in a friendly game which is a a really nice touch Just really odd recommend anyone to watch it like just a radio just a bit man. That sounds great. I didn't know anything about it. That sounds that sounds great Divisive like yeah we. We've still got access to the sky. So let's just chat with him Yeah and the guy eventually makarios. Well recently i think this week is well He some articles. He opened them curry center. Which is like a massive warehouse where he's hosting a like homeless people in like pods. So shot him will my final number five. The it's a bit of a departure. "And unsteady. And so i used a lot of bowed metal instruments that i cannot play very well so the result is a sort of unsteady staggering. Feel and then. It's this as the show goes on and the music and the storyline. Get more epic. I did start using more orchestral. Sounds but using things. Like for instance digital samples of strings are playing vibrato but slow down so it normally would sound like didn't in but when slow down goes rarer and has that element of staggering unsteadiness to provide. Even once mendome character is fully recovered. I still wanted to have that. Wobbly factor in the musical score and so that was something that carried through from the beginning of the series when it's all very unsteady staggering even to the end when things are big and epoch. There's still those type of sounds are still very much a part of the score now. This is pretty much just one just a limited series at this point. So how your conversations were they mostly would night about what to do and that kind of thing you know is really mostly with auction rajon. Who was nights kind of deputy on the on the thing and also with chad hodge. Who was one of the main driving forces behind it. And they kind of had the they they knew it was gonna go and so they were the ones who had the most intimate knowledge of how we should approach things and what we wanted to hint at and wanted to not reveal in elements the musical score but they were the ones who came up with the idea of. There's a little three note vocal sound that happens in the main title theme and a couple of times in the first episode. And it was. I sean and chad. Who would throughout all the episodes would say. Let's put that here. We wanted to kind of point at something on the screen and indicate that that thing or that person is part of the bigger conspiracy. Behind wayward pines. We would use this little three note sound. that's in the main titles and that would be just a little hint for the audience that pay attention to that person or that thing or that place because it's important and that was very much a ashwin and chad because they were the ones that knew that these things might look insignificant on the screen. We're really going to become important later. And so they were the ones that suggested. Let's point at these moments throughout the series and it worked really well in the end. I think speaking of kind of being a mad scientist. I think for composers nowadays when you can manipulate sounds digitally and make so. I mean it's got a it's a great time to be able to go into a studio and just kind of play. It really is the tools that we have now. You know. I mean this is thirty five years. I've been doing electronic music and working with digital recordings and synthesizers and samplers. And all that. But if i had if i had known it was going to get this good. I never you couldn't beyond our wildest dreams of the crude tools that we were working with twenty and thirty years ago where we struggle to do stuff that now is just routine that can be done on a laptop and it really is in terms of musical technology. It's a great time to be doing this at a high level but also great time for people who are just starting out because i mean when i was just starting out of his four track tape machines and very crude instrument's and it was such a huge pain to do the most simple things and you couldn't in a bedroom studio when i was starting out. You couldn't really simulate professional results. You had to eventually go to a real studio but now people who are just starting out with just a laptop and a pair of speakers can really get a good perspective and a good taste of what the big boys are doing and it makes the process much more linear for them to progress from just starting out to in the game. So i you know kid during these kids these days. They got to easy congratulations. I'm really looking forward to the end of the series and there's a couple on my dvr. When i get back. I'm working so i can't see it but my my wife will watch him and she'll say you gotta see this week's episode. It's one of the best things about this series is the casting. Tell my god. Yeah i mean. Melissa leo and toby jones and juliette lewis and terrence howard and matt dillon all of whom have been huge fans of and you. You know they're the type of actors that seem to be just one notch below the top shelf in their in their fame perhaps but they're always the ones that my eyes are drawn to on the screen. And so i'm just think the cast is fantastic. And that's my that's originally sucked me in and made me think this show has got is got to be great because look who's involved. So i mentioned carla too. I love her absolutely. And i just i was just watching something the other night and now she's already off on other shows and so she's all over the place now to meet you man thank you.
