"That's the weird thing about the four dinners, they're not the ravens, but if they get up ten points, that game is over. Yeah. And it's just you're not gonna be able to get the ball enough to be able to come back on them. All right, the Sunday Night game, the Steelers go back to Kansas City. It's postseason football. Why is this the Sunday Night game? 'cause it's maybe more farewells for Ben Roethlisberger. I don't know. This is the least watchable matchup of the weekend. Who knows, maybe it'll be interesting. There are two paths to victory here for the ceiling. One is TJ watt just destroys this game in a way that, frankly, we haven't seen anyone destroy a game. And, you know, you could look back to last year's Super Bowl and say, oh, you know, it's happened to the chiefs, but look, that was sort of a full online collapsing. It's a team that sort of had guys all over the place that get to you. This has to be like TJ watt and maybe cam Hayward just absolutely wrecking this game and just unfathomable ways. And the other way is do you get like a punt block return TD and do you get like Daryl Williams fumble and you scoop it up and score or something like that. It's just the fluke stuff has to pile up and you know it can happen. We've seen it happen to the chiefs. You feel like the chiefs have probably exhausted the weird fluky turnovers that they had in their pocket early in the year. Yeah. I got that visual when you said TJ watt of TJ watt coming out and wrecking the game like it would need to be almost like he comes out and like grabs Patrick Mahomes and just throws him out of the stadium like and he like travels so far that he just goes out of the state of Missouri and it takes too long for them to bring them back. They were like, well, we're not stopping the game like someone's got to go get them and bring them back. It would be something that, yeah, something that would resemble like the Terry Crews, old spice commercials that Tim and Eric directed. It's got to be something like that. It will be an interesting, I remember talking about this a lot after the Super Bowl last year. Chiefs are one of the fewest 13 double tight end teams in the NFL last year. And I think that came back to bite them in the Super Bowl because they had no other option to keep guys in to stay in chip for Patrick Mahomes when things were getting dicey. Like they were kind of using like, I think I remember like Nicole Hardman staying back there to try to like clip people and it just wasn't working. They've had to experiment with other tight ends this year because Travis Kelce being hurt and they've kind of rolled X through some of that stuff they have some better blocking tight ends on the roster..

"I mean you can force a fumble but not recover it for instance and thus it's not a takeaway right so if things even out over time you still have to have the good core defensive principles but i think you make a really good point gary that if you're a defense that's going through a transition like the cowboys are i mean. They had a historically bad defense last year. They've been a lot better so far under dan. Quinn but it always takes a while to get used to a new scheme and get really comfortable in ed's oftentimes taking the ball away can kind of bolster you as you go through that transition period it do. They have multiple takeaways in all six of their games so far that season they had. They had a total of six games with multiple takeaways last year. And they didn't get their first one until november first. So it's just it's a new day here for the cowboys. Dak prescott is back And yeah this is. You gotta be feeling good if you're down in dallas right now yeah one of the things that came up when we reported the t. J. watt story last year that was kind of cheesy but in an endearing way and that has always stuck with me is that mike tomlin likes to refer to the ball as his team's hopes and dreams and it basically reinforces to your players. How important the ball is so if you are carrying the ball you have the hopes and dreams in your your arm and your grasp. You can't let them go and if you're on defense you're trying very hard to get the hopes and dreams back and certainly that situation with at the end of the game. I mean the steelers had their backs up against the wall. They're worried the season is slipping away on their way to a tie with the seahawks without russell wilson and tj. Watts disabled to snatch the hopes and dreams back for his team. So i think it's pretty apt analogy..

"And that is such a remarkable stat. Gary because even now the single season record for interceptions has held up since nineteen fifty two when dick night train lane. Had fourteen. Interceptions xavien howard. We saw had an excellent year last year with ten before that no one had even had ten in a season since two thousand seven so that really highlights just how exceptional what digs has been able to do this season as far as taking away. The football boy i that fourteen interceptions for a night train lane. I thought that was one that would never be broken. That's just one of those. That's in across eras record where it's almost like you. You almost wouldn't asterisk on it because it's like well game was played different back then. So of course. No one's ever gonna threaten this record but we will see with digs one thing. That is really interesting and we're just talking about counting stats at this point which are fun. One thing that's really interesting with digs is like you saw the patriots. After the pick six on sunday to give the cowboys the lead in the final minutes there they went right back after digs because they know how aggressive he is and they know that maybe he susceptible to a double move coming off that pick six so i mean he might have enough opportunities to end up making a run at fourteen. When it's all said and done your those still he'd have to get what seven more and eleven games here which is still an incredible rate. Yeah i mean he's been obviously averaging at least one per game so far. But i think you make a really good point gary in that taking the ball away is so important in today's game because it's become harder than ever but it still only one of playing cornerback and plays like that double move against the patriots where you could tell. He was fuming on the sideline. And maybe the safety should have also played that a little bit differently but after the game digs to his credit. Put it all on himself. He said he needed to play it. The right way and be in the right position but you know is some of that aggressiveness. Tamped down a little bit. You know did a play like that sort of force them to do that or is that going to be something that helped talk about with this coaches. I mean the best all around season. I've seen from a cornerback. Was durell regis in two thousand and nine with the jets and i have only been covering the nfl since about two thousand seven. So i know there are a lot of these before then but what rivas did that season was remarkable and taking the assignment of basically one on one man coverage with the opponents top receiver with no help over the top and a lot of situations and just blanketing them and he only had six interceptions that season because his coverage was so good..

"We'll just make a mistake. A quarterback Fires high and wide on a throw or misreads. A defense or or maybe. Just a fumbled snap that sort of leads to chaos. You know pass rushes can can do a lot to to cause takeaways in in the nfl right now but when you're talking about what it's just so unique because he's one of the few guys who he literally takes the ball away he is. He is elevated this thing to to almost the science and art the ability to force these fumbles. Yeah and a really great point you made. When we did the story last year that stuck in my mind is just how impactful a strip sack is or any kind of forced fumble. Because you're getting the ball where it happens versus an interception. Oftentimes the quarterback is throwing it down field so there is a little bit of a flip in field position but when you force the ball out you get it right there and it can really set up score or obviously in the case of the steelers game it was the game clinching play but a lot of times. It happens in the in the flow of a game. Defenses trying to get an edge. You put your offense in a really great position to score for what this skill of his really started taking off as did his career in his second season. And that's when mike tomlin had him switched sides so he and bud duprey who is in his teammates. Swaps watt headlined. Up mostly on the right side are almost exclusively on the right side as a rookie. But they thought he would be a mismatch against the league's right tackles and the part of that was that he could see. The quarterbacks is better because of the way that quarterbacks drop when they're right handers and he could bat passes down and he could see the football. "Genoa Smith, like, hey, he came in last week when Russell wasn't a hurt. It's not a fluke like Gino actually is a very capable quarterback. Now, the problem is, he had a big fumble in overtime. TJ watt made a huge play to force a fumble. There's some video out there. I saw it on YouTube is like, there's a reason why JJ watt. There's a reason why TJ watt is the highest paid defensive player in the NFL. Like he's fantastic. He's a big playmaker. I've done a film analysis of him he's incredible. And so TJ watt made a huge play for the fumble set up the game winning field goal for Pittsburgh. But again, despite the one mistake in overtime, I thought Gino Smith played better than I expected pretty well and if Gino plays well in the next couple of weeks, they play New Orleans and then Jacksonville in the next two games. Those games are winnable. And so if they beat New Orleans to beat Jacksonville, Geno Smith plays well, then you might get Russell Wilson back week ten against Green Day after the biweek. So Seattle's in trouble, but they're two and two that could turn into the two and four, that could turn into four and four later if they can beat New Orleans and Jacksonville, the year is not over, but certainly if you're a Seahawks fan, two and four with a backup quarterback playing at least two more weeks. There's no way you feel good if you're a Seattle fan. Game number 8, the cold speed Houston 31 to three and the big story is not only that the colts won. They're now two and four, they're trying to save their season. I think they're in fact the air. They're getting hard knocks later this year, which is going to be either really terrible or really interesting depending on if they can win a couple games between now and then now one big thing in this game is they got receiver TY Hilton back in this game. He had a big 52 hour catch. He made a big impact in this game, helping Carson Wentz. And I wonder if TY Hilton will retire after this year for the cold sake, I hope not. And also one other weird thought about this game. I was reminded how much I hate the shadows that Lucas oil stadium stadium in indie. I say this jokingly, but like, hey, could we not get curtains in Indianapolis? What's happening? Every time I watch a game in India, I'm reminded of how much I hate those shadows. It's hard to watch. The ball disappears. The cameras have a hard time. I feel bad for the cameraman every time. And seriously, though, the shadows are terrible in that stadium. Davis mills, the quarterback for Houston. He had two interceptions. He's a rookie. The numbers are bad, but I thought Davis mills all things considered wasn't terrible. And I'm excited to hopefully do a film analysis of him after the year is over. I think he's got potential to maybe be if not the franchise quarterback in Houston, but at least a duct tape quarterback for a while in Houston until they can get a long-term plan..

"Get news that a deal has been agreed to in principle. Not sign but agreed to between. T. j. watt and the pittsburgh steelers. This was first broken by ian rapoport of the nfl network was also adam schefter. Espn that they have the deal in principle. I think they just have to put pen to paper. But it's agreed moving forward. He's been sitting out since the start of camp wants to contract the steelers having given him one and it's almost impossible to quantify just how good this guy is. He comes off a season in which he led the league with fifteen sacks he had the best pass rush win rate sport meaning. He beat his blocker within two and a half seconds. So he's a superstar. This is a guy. many people are being. It'd be the defensive. Mvp and jeff. Can you explain because again. This is not getting as much attention as i think it should be. Exactly what it is going on there will let me explain why to you just mentioned. Tj watt has been sitting out. he actually hasn't and that's what makes this. Such a weird scenario. Is that because of the fines that players face for a holdout now mandated by the players or not sitting in essentially so he's been going through practices in individual drills but then sitting out team drills and there was sort of. I think there's lingering expectation that that would change once the regular season arrived. It hasn't now mike. Tomlin is scheduled to address the media today. Maybe we'll get some more clarity on what it would take if the team perhaps plans to suit them up anyway on sunday even though he's in team but no doubt a fascinating situation with this added layer the steelers on the fact. Not because. i'm sure how it's going to go. But because it was a significant move and a lot depends on it for the titans. No it's it is really interesting that they signed him coming off the acl because it seems like the titans need immediate help there. And i mean yes. He is going to Probably be on the field week one but will he be full shrank and just even without the injury. The whole season comes down to this game. But it's it's like i don't know how you can pick this team. They still have talented players. Could they pull this miracle. What the guys that they have if they're not practicing sure they could but you know everything says you'd expect the steelers to beat up on them with given the week they've had we've we've been saying away from games like this all year it feels like and i don't want to force myself to take a side just because the playoffs and think that i have to you know pick every game or best better. "That second half that consistent pressure every single game where he doesn't go multiple games with very limited production because I think this deep is although the production in the spurts is great. This is a defense debt needs consistent. Production from its Outside Linebackers where every game they're coming out with one and a half to two sacks of peace or one guy's getting two and a half. One guys mixing in one and a half and their county interchanging maybe one game they both get to where this defense is coming out with two and a half to three sacks per game. It may not come from them necessarily, but I wanna see consistent production out of what in depre-. I'm not gonna give back any of it, but I like it just to be more consistent. Let's be honest.
