We're getting to the nitty and the Gritty portion of team building. Are we not right now? Right on the edge. We're right on the edge. It's one week ago yesterday is when the negotiation window opens up. What do you think of that term? Joe diner. Negotiating window. What do you think of that? Who have we got it? Came up with that is pretty clever. Don't you think it's better than cheating, right? Don't you think? Well, we negotiation period. Is that what it is? Negotiation period. We used to call it tampering period and we heard that maybe we want to choose a different word. Aaron Rodgers shows up in New York to talk to the jets. Clearly that means the packers are given permission. Absolutely. What do you mean? What do you read from that? Well, I think it's hard to imagine going back to Green Bay after he goes and takes a visit with another team and we don't know what could be the first of a series of visits. But I can't picture a scenario where the team gives a quarterback that stature at this point in his career permission to go talk to another team that he's coming back to them. Right, it's tough to put that Genie back in the bottle, right? I mean, even with darkness for four days and whether or else you're going to do, I don't know how you get to the place where you go, okay. Right. I'm going back there. He's at least earned wanting to be wanted, right? Right. Exactly. So the fact that he's gone there means he's essentially gone, don't you think? I think it'll be shocking if you ended up back in Green Bay after this. I mean, two days ago, he asked me I would have said, who knows? Right, you know? But now that you hear he has shown up in New York and he is having direct conversations with the jets which must have been blessed by Green Bay. I mean, actions speak loud on the words, at least one of them said I don't want to be back here, at least I want to look into what my options are and. In the conversation of the best quarterbacks ever to play the game. Now you bring them back after you say that to him. Or he said to you, you know, I'd like to see what else is available. I can't picture what a conversation fixes that and then we line up training camp everything's good. Let's pretend that it happens. So then what's your best guess of what the conversation is between Rogers and the jets? Well, I assume the jets are just in a recruiting mode. And I assume they have at least had some preliminary conversations with the packers. Men is just too visible to think. It's not going to go unnoticed. Right. And they could play as on their team that are going to be affected mentally, psychologically, but what they're seeing. So I assume they've at least had preliminary conversation enough to know that if they want to get a deal done, there are at least in the same ballpark they may still have to finish the details. And their own recruiting mode, you know, they're trying to show him that, finish your career and have another chance at a Super Bowl, you can do it here. I mean, that's to me, it's a tough sell. And who those of you guys, but that's a tough sell. What makes you think it's a tough sell? I'm very basic about this. I don't think you want a soup while they're great quarterback in two dominant lines. Everything else, that's not the end of the story, but you've got to start there. And I just don't see the jets even with a Rogers at the point where they're going to be able to dominate those lines the way teams. You've got to be able to prevent pressure on your quarterback able to get pressure on the other quarterback. If you look at the end of the teams that went in almost every year, you can say those things, they were really good at protecting the quarterback. They were really good at pressuring the quarterback. And then have a pretty darn good quarterback of their own. That's right. Those are the three things now. Again, you don't win a Super Bowl. If you have those three things, but that's the foundation for me. Right. So if I'm Aaron Rodgers, I think I'm playing two more years. I'm not, I may be betting if I don't have any other options, but I'm not betting if I do have other options. That that team is in that position where they can dominate those areas that I think are crucial. I don't think he cares about anything, but winning a Super Bowl. Sure. So if he agrees that those are the priorities, you know, I think it would be tough to get there in the next two years with the jets. Right. And so that aside, because he may not have another option. Certainly we've established that you don't believe Joe banner the option of staying put once he's kicking tires going somewhere else in the packers say, go for it, you check it out, that you can put the Genie back in the bottle.

In 20 years, what's going on? I like to think of this as a morning salutation instead of the kind of pervy stuff that you guys are getting at. Pete Weimar, on the rich eisen show. What's up, Pete Webber? That was pretty cool. I enjoyed every minute of it. How about that? Did you hear Stephon Diggs in our Super Bowl show, say that when he called himself him virally that he was really inspired by your statement and question and answer, Pete Webber? Yeah, yeah, I heard it. I was kind of confused too. What was that? And that money said the bowler, Pete Webber, I was like, oh, I know what he meant now. But you know, it's kind of flattering. It's still going on 11 years later. I mean, so walk me through what happened 11 years ago, Sunday, Pete. Walk me through that, please. Well, I was born, Michael fagan for the title. And there was a couple of kids in the stands to my left that were Michael fagan fans. You know, and they kind of rooted a little too loud for me against me. Just loud enough for me to hear. Was it curse words? Were they cursing at you, Pete? Is that what it was? No. They weren't cursing at me. They were just rooting out loud against me. Okay. So, you know, I said something then and after I struck to win, it was like, who do you think you are? This is what I meant to say. Who do you think you are? In my house. This is my tournament. Yeah. And with my adrenaline going, it just came out. Who do you think you are? I am. And ask me became a famous quote. You know? It's kind of, it's kind of cool. When did it dawn on you, you said that, and then cause you to say, what the hell was I talking about? Pete, when did that happen for you? Pretty much right after I said it. I was standing there like, what was that? But you know, like I said, with adrenaline flow and it just came out that way. And so if I'm not mistaken, Pete, on that day, 11 years ago, by the way, TJ Jefferson, one of my colleagues here on the show die hard wrestling fan TJ, did you know this man would play Triple H's theme song during his, I did not know. Is that correct, Pete? Is that correct? Oh, yeah. Triple H is theme song was on. And if I'm not mistaken, you made some hand gestures in that respect as well. Pete, correct? Yeah, I did the DX chop.

I mean, he could have gone, where are you from New Jersey? What exit you? He's not here, mister New Jersey is not here. Hector our guest. TJ Jefferson good to see you over there. TJ, good to see you. Hey, good to be seen. And joining us here on the program as soon as I saw the deep dive come out this morning on the athletic, it definitely almost made me late for work. It was a long read. It was a fascinating read on what went down in Denver last year and what went down in Seattle, according to this report before Russell Wilson left there and joining us one of the three writers for the athletic who's on the byline of this story, Mike sando here on the rich eisen show. Thanks for calling in, Mike. You know, rich, it's great to be here. I feel like I grew up listening to you except you're only ten months older than me. So I don't know how that would be possible. Well, I mean good to be here. You're a child at heart, Mike. I think that's what that means. I think that's what that means. All right, man. So let's just jump right in because to me, I talked about it at length to start the program. And what I kind of latched on is what happened in Denver, but I know the rest of the sports world is already latched onto the way you started with a nice bang here and your piece that Russell Wilson asked to get both his coach and general manager fired for him to stay in Seattle and obviously the Seahawks went in the other direction. I give you the floor on your reporting on that. Yeah, absolutely. So I think less surprising probably the people that are in Seattle have been watching this play out, but for years we've known and written about that he and Pete Carroll were at least a little bit sideways, the whole Russ cook thing, right? He wanted the offense to be more quarterback centric Pete, of course, being the longtime defensive coach run the ball, all of that was going to play the game how he wanted to. So I think for multiple off seasons recently, there's always been stories or reports where you could feel these things were going on. And then the timeline really matched up this last off season, meaning a year ago where things come to a head at the end of the season. There's the types of talks that you have. There's a you could see a stalemate type thing and Russell making his appeal to ownership, this would have been in February of 2022, so the owner has a decision to make. And the owner had upped and extended the head coach Pete Carroll and the GM John Schneider. I believe within a year or 18 months or so, before this, she ends up picking them, this would be in February, so then the combine happens last February, and that's where secretly John Schneider and the GM of the Broncos, George Peyton are kind of laying down the parameters after the decision has been made that the coach and GM are going to stay. And sure enough, then boom, I think as March 8th, the story breaks that the trade is happening. And Russ goes on his way to Denver, and then that's where our story picks up with obviously didn't go as the way anyone expected it would endeavor. Even if you were a rough skeptic, you thought that it was going to go better than it did in Denver the first year. No question. And we'll get to deeper into that in a second, Mike sando, but you quoted a lawyer representing Russ in your story saying that the reporting of Russ trying to get Carol and Schneider fired quote unquote entirely fabricated. I'm sure you saw Russell Wilson's tweet earlier today calling Peter father figure in remarking how John believed in him and drafting was welling never one of them fired. What's your reaction to that? Absolutely, I believe those things are true from Russ about Pete having been a father figure. John Schneider having shown faith in him, I believe that that's totally factual. I mean, certainly there are father son relationships that get sideways at different points. And I think when the book is written eventually on what happened in Seattle, there's going to be chapter on the love and the divorce, right? And so I think it's understandable that Russell would come out and say those things. And we certainly stand by the reporting. We wouldn't have reported it if we didn't stand by a completely 110,000%. So we do. And we realized that when things come out and people maybe some don't want it to come out, there's going to be different types of reactions or attempts to not have the story come out to influence it to not come out all of that is just part of the business. And so that's all that is. And we stand by it a 100% and. That's all there is to say about the story speaks for itself. I would say that it's a better story in our reporting.

One of the top prospects to come out of college football and I'm a little bit jumpy because I saw cocaine bear last night. Jackson junior is going to be here in studio to talk about that movie. Mike and I before a show we were just talking about de la soul and how sad we were that I wanted the members, trugoy, the dove died. So we were talking about that right, okay? Well, okay, I'm sorry to hear that. I mean, I love daily. So 8 four four two O four rich is the number to dial right here on the program. We've got a great three hour show in store for you. We've gotten a whole bunch of we've gotten a whole bunch of tweets in our direction greatly appreciated. I've gotten some texts and some emails, some people were saying this to me over the past weekend when I was strolling around the Super Bowl state about what a great job we all did last week and I say that's all you hear and everybody part of the rich eisen show last week and in terms of the personal kudos I've gotten, I'm touched by it all. Especially knowing that no one out there in terms of my work and I don't think you guys know either in terms of my work, the script for Super Bowl 57, that part about the defensive holding penalty. That was mine. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And you should have seen it in the table read. The table read was wild. Somebody had to tell James bradberry. It was going to be him. He didn't take it very well. But he kind of kept it to himself. And then of course, when he did get called for holding in that part of the game, it totally threw everyone on my Twitter feed that was barking at me about how everything was being set up and fixed for the eagles. It totally undercut them at that point in time. Like all good movies, rich, you need a twist. Yeah. You need a plot twist, especially late in the third act. It's just like all those chiefs fans that didn't see that call on juju Smith Schuster early on. It's a fix. It was fixed. It's all fixed. And then all of a sudden, that was my oh Henry like twist, just flip it. Well done. Thank you. And like I said, it was an incredible season just scripting it all the way to the finish. Yeah. Shout out to the writers. So I told everybody that I wouldn't say anything, but it was really my idea to just come out with this one last penalty just piss off. I did that for all the New Yorkers out there who were upset about the Empire State Building, getting lit up. I'm like, wait till you see what I got cooked up. And it was a tough sell in the room, you know? To Bradbury in particular, and then of course the officials didn't want to be front and center. Money was probably crying, right? Well, no, he flipped me the bird. Oh, that would bird. When he flipped because he knew what was coming. Oh gosh, so we're going to be up by ten, huh? Ten huh and we're just going to join the Super Bowl 51 falcons is the only teams in Super Bowl history to be up by ten or more halftime and not win the game, huh? It was a tough sell. Because all the eagles fans thought. My apologies to everybody out there about my script idea. How dumb is this? Hashtag NFL. All the sky got that all throughout the entire Super Bowl. It's fixed, it's fixed, it's fixed. And then of course when the officials pop in there, it's the officials who are fixing the game. And it's just human condition, folks, I still, to this moment, can not believe that flag came out. You know, at first, when I saw it in the stadium and I'm like, yeah, that's a whole. He tugged his Jersey. He did tug his Jersey. And then, you know, as things went along, I'm like, that is something that should not be called. And I heard Pereira Mike Pereira lead Fox rules analysts say yesterday, doesn't matter. First quarter last quarter, first week, last two minutes, you see it, you call it, and yeah, you see it in your call it, but it wasn't called much of the game. Where does that come from? And I think it ultimately just comes down to the disappointment that we didn't see the ending that the game deserved. And I appreciate James Bradbury saying, yeah, that was a whole, I thought they'd let it slide. And I appreciate hertz and Nick Siri after the game saying, we should have played better. Because that is the truth. I mean, the fact that it did come down to a holding call against the eagles after they were up by ten, okay? They were up by ten, and after they were dominating the first half of that game, which they did. They could have easily been up 28 to ten going ahead. They could have been up 18 and a half. They also got the benefit of Kansas City. The butt kicker hit one right off the upright. Thus, when kadarius Tony, waltzed in untouched into the end zone to give the chiefs their first lead of Super Bowl 57 in the fourth quarter, their first lead would have been in the first quarter. They'd have been up ten 7 the chiefs. So the eagles did get some benefits. In this game. But they also literally fumbled one away. Jalen hurts his truly only mistake of the night was a major mistake.

Because even though it's five. I'm going to give you an extra one on this because i couldn't choose one sidekicks. We're talking television. Sidekicks in the thing about these two psychics is they took characters that were comic relief and probably background characters. In just by the sheer will of their greatness as actors they embodied these characters and made them stars in the thing. Is i know both of these guys. Neither one of their anything like the characters. They portrayed so. I'm going to give a shout out to two of the greatest sidekicks of all time. That's stephen oracle and phase from family matters in that seventy show too great sidekicks to great guys. I know gelo white for years. He's a great dune valderrama's one of my best friends so To iconic characters sidekick to though he was any. Okay yeah urkel. That's a good No coming in at number two okay. Let's put it this way. If i if you're having a bad day right and let's say you get fired on a friday on your day off and i'm speaking from experience because it happened to me. Then you need a psychic really going to keep your spirits high. They're going to keep you up. Yes what better side. And the reason i picked them is because there was somebody else did i know of who moved from the east coast and moved to la and live with a good looking movie star and were jerseys and hats and sweatsuits and that would be me.
