"Because i do believe. He's a that quarterback. Now who grows for yard touchdown but this guy is on matt ryan but he could have done a lot better posting and they live plays out on the field. I've been is the strongest or of the team. Supposedly me was the second week. I think the best part of the team was the defense and the poor part of the thing special teams. But it's a rare. Don't go down. We in his game at the end. He's just team This week could have beat the eagles last week. Not really a more. Victory would have been if the end. It's twenty five twenty eight and we really may have the point. Well how'd you beat the chance. But we can keep improving or not positivist and i the again the giants okay. First of all. I love that dude. I mean matt ryan hater alert. Just absolutely gets me every time. It larry is already made some really good points and i did want to Talk just briefly. He made a very good point about their decision to not go for it on fourth and one. But then also quarterbacks naked on fourth. And i think about two and there was no way. That play wasn't getting blown up. It didn't make any sense. And i like that was one of the times one of many times. I was like stomping around my living room like throwing a tantrum out because put down the mentioned that so that i can get mad all over again to be fair. That was hard to explain. From arthur smith and because i think the the one they punted on was fourth in one and or fourth and inches. I think it was actually it was. It was fourth in less than the art. That was the one that he i mean. He was maybe three or four inches. From i found it was so close and the second one was worse. Yeah i'm pretty sure. Yeah so a. Qb sneak on fourth and too which is interesting decision with the offensive line. I mean let's call a spate of spain. It was a bad decision is what that was. Yeah it was. I i will say i think sometimes and we saw this even with call shanahan Lifts ourselves because he actually did it on the biggest stage sometimes offensive. Line coaches tried to get to cute and they tried to be too unpredictable and they tried to do things that hey you'll never see this one coming like me sneaking a quarterback on fourth in into or hey i'm not going to run the damn ball in the fourth quarter That kind of thing. So i think it's fair when offensive coordinator whether it's called shanahan whether it's arthur smith when they get a little bit too cute with the play calls. They deserve that criticism. Yes you know. Hopefully don't try to just play. You know a four d chess with the defensive coordinator. Sometimes you just need to draw up a good play in tell you guys to execute put them in a position succeed instead of trying to. Oh my god here comes. Cuba sneak. They'll never see that coming. They guys they saw it coming and they crushed you and it was super embarrassing. I believe that. That was actually when i tweeted. Falcon stop embarrassing me challenge. That was exactly my reaction to it. And the other thing that Our friends mr matt ryan hater were brought a is that the game really might have gone differently. If h h ferrall had healthy and You know i. I thought it was kind of funny. I saw in preseason. Some national outlet wrote an article about him as like potentially one of the bounceback players. And i was like bounce back from what like a solid season. I don't think that trump gets you know a lot of attention nationally or anything like that but he is. I'm very very solid player. For the falcons and it did make a difference. When he went down it did he had two big pass breakups against the bucks. That i think both of them probably prevented touchdowns and unfortunately that second one did result in the concussion that we hope he gets back this week but yeah it actually really really good point from him. Our top corner was not out there. For the you know the tail end game that could have had You know and yeah. I really did neither until you mentioned it. But he's sprite. You know though the offense was really clicking and the special teams permanency. You know the the bad punting. It really did impact the momentum of the offense. You know that that was problematic. But yeah the timing when they lost Aj that definitely definitely had an impact on the outcome of the game. And i know we. We will say that the nfl team should be able to lose a starter and not suffer so dramatically. But this is a falcons team that has little to no depth and we have to keep that mind. Many people said before the season began yet. This team could be successful if they stay healthy. And i think that is a big caveat here if they start losing starters like if they lost calvin ridley. The downgrade at wide. Receiver is massive massive. That's where you lose agents rail and all of sudden you've got tj green out there at corner and you know no disrespect I think he played well in preseason. But he's not a top guy. He's not a guy that's gonna fill in in a reasonable fashion for multiple snaps. And that's what this falcons roster is right now. If they suffer injuries they're going to suffer in quality of play until they have the appropriate amount of time to rebuild this roster to rebuild the depth. It's gonna take several years for not to be able to retool from top to bottom and get the kind of depth in here they want So yeah fantastic. Point even in the midst of the matt ryan hater alert that we were blessed with legitimately loved. Like when i got that. That was the last voicemail and i was like. Oh this is this is apropos. We are finishing the podcast. With this voicemail of yes. yeah the The matt ryan hater. Alert alarm really does. It really doesn't make a whole experience. i love it. And what's great though is like he did the matt ryan hater but he still likes finished on the relatively positive notes. God bless him for that literally absolutely and he said that you know. He has matt ryan hater and matt ryan coulda played better but he was not a problem. The side and so yeah. I agree with that. Yeah i gotta look for it And respect for all of these voicemails. These are a ton of fun. I hope those of you who've left voicemails enjoy doing that. Enjoy hearing it Playback and for those of you who have not participated yet in this. We will do one of these again in the future. Hopefully next sunday. We'll have something to celebrate. Maybe maybe just maybe we'll get a win against the new york giants on the road but If you're asking me to make any predictions. I'm not gonna do that..

"Again. You know sample size is a little bit small but this is beginning to trend in the right direction for this guy. Young player Safety jalen hawkins so really excited to see What that means for his ongoing development in that safety role and number five Fabien moreau that he got burned on one touchdown and honestly you know he was the player on that play but it was a really good pick play. That took him out is hard to really come down. You know really negative on him for that play but he had overall very strong day so kudos to him. The bottom five on defense. Absolute worst of the worst was john kaminsky. He only had two snaps though. I thought he was going to play a lot more than that. Really surprising to see that from him. But twenty four point eight grade for this to snaps next above him free safety. Richie grant six total snaps again sample size. Don't come down too hard. On grant for this seventy five point two on the tackle so you actually showed to be a very good tackler again. Six snaps for those of you. Who are concerned about the rookie. Just calm down. It's it's one game at six naps. Let's not get too upset about the one just yet. Right above him. Jacob to not mariner who had twenty five snaps forty seven point three grade. I actually thought he was much better than this. So maybe we'll take that one a little bit grain of salt right above him tyler davidson forty snaps forty-nine point two overall grade and above him linebacker dion jones. Unfortunately who had a forty nine point seven grade but funny enough had an eighty four point. Six pass rushing grades. Dion apparently needs to rush the passer more he literally had our best score as a pass rusher and actually was fairly good as a tackler with seventy two point. Now where we're some of our key guys on defense. Greg jarrett was fourteenth uncharacteristic for him. And i again i feel like this is maybe not a hundred percent accurate but then again. Grady missed tackles. That really i think if you were at peak form with a pull down the quarterback so maybe where that's where some of that's coming from his great of fifty four point nine is definitely well below what we used to seeing from him. Aj terrell Was actually number ten. So neither another terrible outing for him. Fifty eight point seven overall grade. Decent coverage grade not really great in the tackling department. Which again is weird. Because he he made a really good open-field tackle early on the game. And then dante fowler was number eight with sixty point one grade and he actually did well in run defense tackling but as a pass rusher had a forty nine point two grade which will surprise absolutely. Nobody if you've been watching the falcons for any extended period of time. Hopefully this is not the beginning of a consistent trend for any of these players. Clearly i think gregg jarrett is gonna bounce back. I would love to see jalen. Hawkins continue to to high and be one of our top defenders as well as guys like michael walker. Tj green as well loved seeing some of these younger guys guys we brought in Have an impact on this defense early on but right now not a whole lot. Celebrate you know. These are the the majority of these scores are on the wrong side of good. And we've got tampa bay next Certainly we're gonna be talking about that this week at the alcoholic dot com and of course on the podcast. We will have a podcast very soon. "Starter. He he is to me. He's a starter at this point. They would bring him in. He's he will be their best option. Left easily yeah he. He's he's not he's not an elite guy he'll be he probably would be an average starter but he would definitely be their best option. They want susie walks in the door. Yeah yeah. I mean. I i agree. They don't have much money so you know we'll see if they can do anything here really but yeah definitely definitely know who. They're playing jay cocks. You don't wanna see that. Oh god yeah. I think that's the big. The that's one of those match. Ups where fletcher cox can win. It's so decisively that completely ships the tide of the game and then Was the very next week Is tampa right. Beautiful via via. We've got start could be around that long. You got dexsa lawrence and leonard williams and then doron pain jon. Allen are also on a slate to the first month of the season. it's going to be sinker. Swim for Jalen mayfield yeah. That was rough now. We'll we'll adjust pressure to help him out on the left side. Maybe they'll actually you know. Have a quick game unlike dirt cut her. I don't think they'll have an option will need it feel like dirk koetter just sort of refused to adapt his offense when the protection wouldn't hold up. I'm hoping that arthur smith would be willing to do that. So you know. I author was very decisive when it came to the deepen intermediate passing game. But he didn't really rely on it. He used it effectively. certain times. You know if you look back at their last year when it came the and you know they. They didn't do it a lot but they were very effective when they did it in. A lot of it was predicated. I'll play so to start the season you know. I think he's smart enough to know. Okay we're going to have to try to modify that passing game and let's just get the ball out of matt's hands and let's get this find a way to get the ball in the pits hands quickly or calvin or run that they ran. You know this weekend. Just run that. Run it over and over again out. Run the entire defense like anybody like watching that play. It was like it was. It was only twenty seven yards only. It was a beautiful twenty seven yards. Wow this is what is like. This is the cal as he. Streaking down the ceylon untouched. Just little tiny pass destroyed their entire retired. Shrugging off of lyman and dragging a linebacker in a safety. This is beautiful and probably if it was better blocked he might've. How's that a lot of tight ends. They don't house it if they get space he. He ran into the back of his teammate. Way oh my god yet. I i was furious. He didn't get out of bounds. I i was screaming. Get out of balance like internally. It's a preseason game. Yeah now that makes sense. But i. I was screaming. Get off the field. That's all what i needed to see. Not back in there. But that's that's the glimpse that's a glimpse of where we have a man. Yeah yeah i. I wouldn't talk to people are already Expecting like my did go rookie season on steroids. At this point. I wouldn't feed into that like right away. It's it definitely wouldn't be fair to him because right now you ask. The average falcons fan. They're they're expecting. Travis kelsey numbers. You're one let's see like what jomar chase who is struggling. You know in his first came out and eight right and you see kyle pits plays like one snap and an actual preseason game and just like dunks on an entire defense and it's like okay. Well now i know why the hype train is out of control because of stuff like this. It's not helping me. My efforts like calm down at all. That place specially especially since. That's the only way that we got so now it's just two weeks of all. How good can you be. Yeah exactly the hype. Trains out of control. I mean it was four but nobody wants to hear a realistic. Like you know. Eight hundred yards and like seven or eight. That would still be a top five old rookie season for tight end. But it's like. I don't wanna hear that. I think that's probably your one for him. I would not if there's if there's something he may do maybe out of the ordinary. I wouldn't be surprised if he his w tests announce but i definitely think because of the way he'll be used seven eight hundred yards. That's definitely the roma possibility. But you know let's not expect twelve thirteen hundred yards out there. Rally ever hit that. Yeah yeah yeah exactly. Yeah let's see was trying to see if there's any other jason spriggs beating willie. Beavers was kind of interesting to me. He definitely outplayed really beavers. So that part wasn't surprising but Good for him for making it. Only two undrafted free agents made it. We talked about fleet by frank's already but dory ethridge. The linebacker was the other one. And i thought he won. Quan in the preseason made for him like you with a good shocking though in past years when stuff like that happened they get cut. Yeah yeah jonathan. Yeah germain grace. They were like oh yeah. We don't care we remember a few years ago and jd. Mckissick kick return touchdown while they were interviewing arthur blank then a few days later they caught him. Like what the hell are you guys looking at. Yeah that was dumb. And he's been like a good. Nfl player like he's been like a number of three running back at work. I think he's the running back to right now for washington. One you've snaps over fifty passes. It was nuts like and you just walk out the door for who exactly like nobody worth it. That's for sure. Yeah let's solid. Tj green green interesting. Yeah got a really good. They had him playing corner to write says both outta really and he's listed as a db like initiative hybrid both he and sheffield listed as that. But i mean green makes a lot of senses like sort of a tight end. Sort of matchup player. Because he's six three to twenty he gives you. He gives you that bleeding. Ray wilson type of by big long corner aman again. He'd they had him out on her perimeter. Against cleveland and fair quite wet air like two or three pass breakups yambio red zone. He played pretty well. I like what i saw from him. Yeah i think he actually is the most athletic player on the roster if you look at his rs score. I think he's like a ninety nine point eight percentile athlete. He ran like a four three eight. Six three to fifteen so a second round was the second game. Pixel have just. Indy tried to move them to corner. It didn't work out so they ended up moving on and then he played some safety and looked better. He's been i think he's been on the falcons like practice squad for the last year. So yeah yeah. Other than that i think. We've basically covered all the notable stuff. Josh harris long snapper was waived today. I know evan. You might have some insider information on that one without getting in trouble. Just he'll probably be back probably. Probably nothing confirmed. It's just it's definitely speculation. But i wouldn't worry too much. Evan schefter schefter. He is insider director of personnel. So seen before we sign off let me read off a five dollars. Donation here from george costanza. Thank you george. We appreciate you. Brother says i expect travis kelsey numbers from kyle pits. I would love to see seventy five catches for twelve hundred ten plus touchdowns anything less than that as disappointing. I'm sure he's being sarcastic. But i'm sure we are talking about. George was i mean that's true that's true. I guess i don't wanna put wanna put words in his mouth. You might not be sarcastic. He was the one responsible. For drafting kyle pits. After all geor- george was the reason why we covered. Kyle pits more than anyone else on the internet bringing them up very upset and i guarantee you. There's like some way to measure how how often cow pitch was mentioned on any article like shows. I guarantee you will be foreign away number..

"I'm still not sure because the thing is like sheffield is not a draft pick of this regime which was sort of surprising like why are they keeping the sky around. He was bad last year. He's been injured. I thought at minimum they would put him on injured reserve in that spot to put someone like chris williamson there. So it's really like if sheffield doesn't get healthy enough to play in the next you know week or so. They're essentially their depth. Is going to be two rookies behind. Isaiah oliver and that is really concerning again. Not trying to take away from what we think is the long term potential but these guys are not ready to be regular contributors as corners on defense. At least not from what. I've seen in sounds like you agree with that So with that. What kind of grade do you give to these corners with all of that taken into consideration. Well maybe maybe by the time. We're done recording. No put a waiver claim that somebody else. That's what i thought they have done. yeah i i guess kindle sheffield contract the appeal Maybe i don't know I i don't have an answer for that. I guess they really liked it. Like you said big i. I like the top I wouldn't say they're in a weaker. But i like the top. I think are competent group. The depth does worry me. I like the long term outlook. And i give them a seat for that. Yeah the in my mind. The the starters would get like a b. plus but then the depth gets like a deep less with ads out to like a c. But it's again. With the understanding. That darren hall neighbor. Williams could very well develop into much better players over time again if they're in here this year they're playing in the first few games. I'm gonna feel very uncomfortable with where the fact fences that at least you got guys like tj green richard rant Even deron harm in that. Habit warner flexibility So you can mask a little bit of that. You know that kind of plays into it. I i. i'm only gonna guys who are cornerbacks into account. But i think that'll help them out alive. They do run into debt issues Which is good which is definitely good. Yeah that's a great point. And and i think that should be emphasized. Guys like tj green. Channel hawkins richie grant. It will probably again with dean pees and how he likes to to use these guys. They will probably get opportunities to be in those big nickel sets an and to help out in that regard. So yeah i. I don't think they're gonna turn to haul and williams this year on the regular for cornerback help unless their injuries and i mentioned this on the last podcast did with Jean and matt the reality is this For those of you who are listening there is no way that terry fontana was going to rebuild the entire depth of this roster in one year. It just wasn't going to happen with the salary. Cap situation being was With the falcons and then on top of that everything else that happened with. Julio there was no way for them to rebuild all of the depth think he did as good as he could with filling out decent to high quality starters on both defense and offense But the depth is gonna take time. It's gonna take probably several years to begin to cycle through several draft classes veterans signings and going through that process. Y- freeing up cap space in getting that mess taking care of before we're going to see depth that we're gonna go into a season feeling like it's not going to be the end of the world if one or two guys get injured. Yeah yeah we could play the game. I'll get All day and Of course You know it was pretty much financially impossible before the draft. The man would have loved to have that second round pick for this draft. This was a really nice classic at least in my opinion in that second round. And you know you a double did on grant maybe like an andre disco. Somebody like that I think that would help a lot definitely and it sounds like it seems like fun though is gonna put a lot of stock and keeping draft picks going forward like the previous. Gm man got so many things. I could say. I'm just gonna leave that one alone actually all right so i don't thoughts on this defense jacob. We go into the season if you're going to give them an overall grade. How are you feeling about man. I really wanna be nice to him. Because i like these guys and i like the coaching. But if we're talking about the raw or we're talking about james joe's okay let me go. I'm going to be modest. Just because they have so many. I think i think you know. Yeah there's death issues. But i think when you look at grady jarrett my expectations at least personal dante. Fouls the inside linebackers. Aj sorelle. that's the pieces are there. There's some really good piece there And you know this. This is the defense that they're going to have to be some other parts. They're not just in superstar dhamma unit But they still have to still have superstars. you know. make no mistake about that. So i'm gonna give him. That might be a little optimistic. But i've been on record as saying the defense better than the offense this year Which hey. I'd be happy about that. Because i i think the often heavy pretty good but obviously i have my personal them. I think if you wanna say something like that. I'm not gonna argue with you over it but i'm curious to hear what you think that's because i was going with c. Plus and with again the noted caveat that a coordinator like dean pees can have a big influence on that great and he can take what is arguably a c c plus unit and maximize it in get like a you know a high be out with them. I don't think this is ever going to be with the current roster. You know the twenty twenty one roster. I don't think this roster is ever gonna crack or come near the top ten But can they be sort of a mediocre to average defense this year. I think if they stay healthy and some of these guys take the leap forward that we're expecting then. Yeah i think that is within the cards and that would be better than what we've had in atlanta in a very long time and you know and then that becomes something you can build off of if you have a defense that finishes like in the top eighteen top. Nineteen of devi away similar to what they did last year again. I feel like the defense gets trashed a lot in the certainly have a bad history but they actually finished in that top twenty for dv away which is a really good advanced metric to pay. Attention comes defense because it takes into account the competition they faced. I think when you factor that in when you look at that them finishing in the fifteen to eighteen range is not that much of a stretch especially win. You know you you do have players as you mentioned like crazy. Jarrett dion jones kuhn. That are really sort of top. You know top. Quality starters In the c plus. My mind is because the depth is full of question marks again guys. Were promise guys. That could eventually become something. But i'm we're not. We're not going to anoint. These guys until they do anything so we can. We can only hope. I've got big hopes for guys. Like oh deja but they have to prove it and they have to earn it I think i think it was morris took over. I think they were nice. But maybe until the last tampa game. Hey funding trivia question before that super bowl only team told patrick mahomes twenty points in it i fell career. Twenty twenty falcons you go. I mean that's I feel like this. Unit is is going to surprise people. Because what's funny is i actually Last year i was sort of trashing. The defense on twitter and aaron freeman. Sort of called me out. He's like are you sure. that bad. As like the falcons defense. of course. they're bad. He's like early. Sure that bad i was like i'm gonna go check check. Check the dvd away. I was like oh my god how are they ranked as high and then sort of thought about in in reality. I think they are better than people realize. So yeah i. I feel like b minus in that c. Plus range right now but they could surprise. I'm with you. They may be a much better than than people are in suspending. So i'm excited to see what they can do. Especially with again. Let me just reemphasize. You guys go read. Mike rossier piece on. Defense coordinator dean. Ps it's really good insight into him as a coach. how long he's been coaching. And.

"I'm joined by jay gordon. We're talking about the falcons. Defense our grades for them going into the twenty twenty one season. Obviously take all of this with grain of salt folks. We're talking about you know guys before. The games are even played But these are sort of initial impressions of the players the quality of the players. What we've seen from them. We've talked about the defensive line that linebackers. Let's talk about the back end of this defense. Because in the past especially in recent years this has been a unit that has been at times problematic. A lot of that has been due to injuries. We've we've seen guys like kiana. Neil ricardo allen demonte casey all go down with season ending injuries over the past several years so some of that is not just simply the nature of the nfl but some of it has been talented issues. I am of the mind that some of that is hopefully knock on wood in the past I want to start with the safeties. Because i wanna finish up with what we've got corner. They brought in to veterans to anchor the safety position for now. They're both on one. Year deals eric harris doron harmon and behind them are what i think are two really promising players. I think next year. Probably going to be our starters at safety second round. Pick richie grant and fourth round. Pick from last year. Jalen hawkins who. I think you could argue that one of the best pre-seasons of any defender on this roster. So let's start with the the two presumed starter for now. What do you feel about harrison in harmon and after that talk about the potential of hawkins grant. Yeah you know. I can catch a lot of las vegas raiders football because i tend to value my time. I but i know right but it you know. Hey of i think they know but you know you look at a guy like eric. Air from all accounts super high character. Guy You know solid run support. can step up in the box and make some plays there can get touched up in coverage a little bit That could be a product of the raiders secondary as a whole which is not exactly like he's coming over to the the twenty thirteen e hawks From the raiders. But i think it'd be decent and run support You may have to get him out of there on nickel and bringing a jalen hopkins or grant. But i think doron. And he's just he was made de defense. You know all the time you spent. I don't know if there was any overlap between these new england. But you know that's switch ability That ability to move around and by all accounts is another guy. he's just super high character. Guy observer You know very very Very much in a leader role which is which is good to have it out of a safety And so i like those guys. I think armand will earn a second contract. I don't know about harris But i think harmon. I think he's gonna fit right in. I think he's gonna make a lot of good places now. Think about can give them an extension. But that's putting the car before the horse so Yeah i it's on the two guys. I don't know if they're gonna be the savior for every single little problem that we have. But when you talk about going from ricardo allen and guys who have been there forever It's it's definitely a different look. It is and it's i'm with you. Eric harris i think is he's decent enough. He's got issues that we're going to have to work around You know when you're signing. You know veterans like this to be essentially stopgaps He's i think he's good as you get for sort of that price range. You know so when you're shopping at dollar tree you're not getting top notch target up flirts and we got the best of the dollar tree brand. I you know. I think harris is better than dollar trade. Let's be very clear But i'm with you drawn harmon has. He's he's thirty years old he's been league for wall. I think his mentorship of grant hawkins is very notable. As you mentioned he is someone who has taken both those guys Under his wing. In particular richie grant and that i think is going to pay dividends over long term and i really love. The falcons have brought guys like that. That are mentors. Now hawkins in grant again last year hawkins was able to play a little bit until he got injured in in sort of missed out on the last several games of the season when he was in there I thought he played fairly well. I did not anticipate sort of the jump that he would make from last year to what we saw this. Preseason his individual play preseason looked really a big leap forward. Richie grant i think fans need to understand. Dean pees asks a lot of the players in his second year. He expects all of these guys to know every position in the responsibilities of those positions. And that's gonna put a lot of pressure on those safeties on the linebackers and you know grant is probably gonna need some time to get used to all of those responsibilities. He can't just learn being a safety. He has to know what it's like to be a corner. He has to know what it's like to be linebacker. That is a big ask and for any rookie to come in. It's gonna take time and if he's not on the field up immediately that does not mean he's bust. The talent is there. I think he's going to be fine. I'm really bullish on what he is going to do. On the back half of this year and in the twenty twenty two. So what do you feel about hawkins grant in their long term potential. Yeah and you're totally right about the days. And i think that's why we saw the falcons make a lot of the choices. We did in the draft saying anything groundbreaking. It's been a hundred times a day. Targeted intelligent guys An older guy seniors captains guys who appeared to have their head on their shoulders. The defense is not easy to learn. There's a lot going on But that was that was one that was my that was my own hocken. Felt like hey you know. He looks like he's really developing. I think that's something. A lot of people were banking on to start season And that's very encouraging. Besides i gotta shot him out. When i was out and breakfast got absolutely lost. Our trust i mean i remember. I was like somebody's house. Because i didn't know parker has to. Whoever you to you know one of the fifty tight end behind had out there like somebody just got eight up august. You know he. We saw i make a couple of good plays during the free stephen shoring up that back in play in that centerfield role and i think he's i think he's gonna see a lot of wing-pong especially in nickel and i trust the. I think he's gonna be okay back there. I'm not really worried. About and Yeah richie granted. Didn't look spectacular. But the thing is he's a rookie. you'd like you said there's a lot to learn a decent and i think the guys ahead of him i will allow him to come on and spots and kind of get get some feel for the game. Get some of that game sets. He has great instincts he had things. Ucf that's obviously a big jump in competition. And and and i think he will grow into. I think by you the season we're going to be feeling a lot. Better about rich brent. Yeah hundred percents Do want to note. The falcons have tj green listed as a safety. He's probably going to be more of a quote unquote. Db where he is going to see. Time both at safety and a corner He's a bigger player. I think he's like six foot three but he's a player that i think is well is he's gonna be more of a backup anyways but he's going to be deployed by ps sort of all over the field when he does come in so another player that i'll just mention him. But how do you feel about the safeties and what. What kind of grade would you give this unit. You know this. This is one that. I wrestled with By the way shut off. Cj green good for many or that's body played really well.

"Whether or not the falcons would keep a fourth guy back there. And it's during ethridge. Who played a fantastic game in that first. Preseason ended up arguably being a little bit more consistent than some of the guys. He was competing with. He has made the initial fifty three man roster. I feel like this is a position that it's going to be relatively stable. Enroll thompson was one of the guys. That was in competition here. I could see him. Potentially going to the practice squad for this team really liked what he did as well in this preseason but right now during ethridge the only other undrafted free agent other than philippi. Franks to make the fifty three man roster. I think he's relatively safe. I think we can run with this now as we get into the defensive backfield. This is where things get interesting. The falcons are going to be running running with eleven total defensive backs now. I think most people thought the max number for the defensive backs it was going to be around ten. So they're they're running one heavier than what most people projected really with that being sort of four safeties five corners and in that that tenth player being sort of a hybrid player that can play both safety and corner. Let's start with the safeties obviously drawn harmon. Eric. harris or the to presumed starters the veteran starters the one year rentals at the safety position and then of course. You've got At the the the backups. For those guys Richie grant who our second round draft pick and then jalen hawkins arguably one of the most improved players from last year to this year Who we think also is going to see a lot of playing time now. The corner position. This is where. I think things are a little bit interesting obviously. Aj terrell fabien moreau or the to pencil in starters. They've looked good from what we've seen from them. In camp in limited playing time in the preseason and then behind them. you've got isaiah. Oliver who is the presumed nickel corner. Who has actually played pretty well. I think he played pretty well in the back. Half of last year in this revised position for him. And then darren hall and avery williams the to drafted corners. They have made the roster. Darren hall maybe a little bit more surprised but again. I don't think the team wants to walk away from any of their drafted rookies. The they wanna hang on to these guys whether they play him or not so hall could be someone that In the very similar way kept inactive on game days and they're keeping him to pull him into the twenty twenty two season unless injuries of course happened. The head of him every williams. Clearly i think is going to be the punt returner of choice for the team going forward. Tj green who. I feel like really had a very very strong season in the last couple of preseason games that last one may have played him onto the roster his player. It's got some size. He's one of the guys. I think that can sorta platoon. Between safety and corner. He has made the roster so kudos to him and kendall. Sheffield is currently on the roster. Here's a guy that i felt was on the bubble. He did not play at all in the preseason. He is barely practice in fact. I don't know that. He is practiced once many of us thought he would either be put on the pup list or put on injured reserve. This could be something where he could be returning in the very near future. And the falcons just are not willing to move on from him yet. But he has for now made the roster. I will say this. I do feel like this is a position. Where if they're going to add another offensive lineman or even potential another running back. I like one of these defensive backs could be the guy to go and honestly. I still think i'm going to continue to say that. I think kendall sheffield's going to be that guy simply because his second season was such a downturn of performance the injuries this year i could see them trying to stash him on the pup list and obviously that would be six weeks before you would be able to see him again. I feel like there's maybe an additional change coming for the defensive back so this is definitely wanted to keep an eye on but right now sheffield has made the roster and of course the the specialist. Josh harris long snapper young way coup. For the kicker and cameron is lack has made it as the punter The former holder or former teammate of young way coup is also now made the roster as well so kudos to those guys As i mentioned before this is and you're going to see a lot of people saying this and it bears repeating. This is the initial roster. I think we're going to see more moves made even possibly today or tomorrow as these other guys are cut. The falcons are pretty high in the the chain for claiming guys off waivers because of the record last year so if they go and claim a guy there's a good chance that they'll get him likewise if a veteran this cut a specially again i think on the offensive line because of the lack of depth there. I think that is a position. They can look to address. End some of the guys. I think even though right now they're on the roster who are are not necessarily on sure footing. If you asked me to put that down to a list i would say number one. Felipe a franks do think. They'll try to put him on the practice squad at some point. But i just don't see them trying to carry three quarterbacks all year long Josh rosen again. I think this is more about the team wanting to give him a longer. Look but i don't think he's unsure for either. I think the team could still look for another veteran quarterback to be the true. Backup to matt ryan this year. So the two quarterbacks behind matt ryan or on my list for a.

"I mean the fact that michael walker who could start on just about any other team is going to be more of a rotational player. Just based on the scheme is crazy. richie graham. We saw some him he look good. Yeah i mean this is a bunch. I mean every week. There's been a bunch of defensive players. A lot of them younger guys Every williams actually. I mean you've talked about in past episodes. You know him. Being on that. Punter battle competition with the chris rolling. I thought he really stood out at corner in this game You know roland did have What a- catcher. Whatever but every williams in corner looked good. I mean you wouldn't be like starting corner anything on this team. But if he's like your fifth or sixth corner I mean you ain't gonna hear any complaints from me and which is what he will be. And that's a completely fine and again he is. He's a plus athlete. Who were we brought on primarily for special teams. So if you're getting quality corner play From from a depth standpoint again not for this guy to be a starter clearly. It's really good. He was our third highest grade player on. So that's really encouraging and to your point. Tj green was her highest graded player by pf and for those who are unfamiliar tj. Green was a two thousand sixteen. Second round draft pick by the colts Alek clemson four. Three four speeds six-foot-three if this guy can be a depth player for us like that's you know that's some high pedigree and in a amount of times with these guys you know. We talked about this before the team that drafted them you draft someone that high in the second round you're really wanting them to eventually become starter and if that player just doesn't turn into that you feel like you have to move on from the atlanta as a place where he could go and potentially just be a rotational guy like you said moving from safety the corner. He doesn't have to be cornerback. One or two or even three like right now. Isaiah oliver's are nickel someone like tj. Green i feel like is he's going to be a good fit as that fourth or fifth corner someone you can turn to in really sub packages or someone that can come in and in in substitution or during injury and fill in spots. And that's you know those guys matter they help fill out the roster and to your point i think he made a strong case for making the fifty three man roster this week. He's one of the names. I'm going to be paying attention to to see if he sneaks in at the end the other name that popped he got twenty six snap. Second highest graded on pf marlon davidson. His second preseason game and he second strong performance he missed the second preseason game he played in the first one. Look good in that one Played in this. One has looked good in this one. So knock on wood. Hopefully this is a sign that marlon davidson is going to have a much better year than his rookie year All right the the the secondary we didn't see much of the starters at all I think Eric harrison drawn harmon. Did not play but we did get to see a good of resell harmon out there. Did he play. He may have played a few. No air cares. Definitely but i i right arm in harmony. Play like a couple you know. He played ten snaps so he was out there. But i think primarily the falcons leaned on jalen hawkins who had forty two taps And richie grant. Who had thirty. Two sam's and i've got to be honest. I am actually really excited about how. These two guys are developing. Obviously richie grant second round. Pick a lot of people him to be a starter right now and i just don't think that's in the cards immediately. I'm not saying that can't happen this year but jalen hawkins like again he. He graded out fairly well on. Pf he's had a really strong. Preseason what do you think about the two safeties. Because i feel like this is This could be preview. Who are starters are in twenty twenty two. Yeah i mean. I i like talking even last year before. He got injured This preseason he's really showcase that e could technically start for this team In obviously he's from the last regime so it's not like Arthur smith in being. Pc came in thinking about jalen hawkins thinking they had a starting safety in him because he hadn't had a lot of tape From missing games last year. So could he technically start. Yeah but you know they do. Have these two guys the in harmony in harris who are technically the starters but you might see hawkins in there as a rotational player. Just because he's been too good to kind of take off the he'll again. It was preseason but he's really good in You know dean pees a sent him even on blitzes where it's gone up middle and got a sack during preseason I think they really like him in a feature depth safety. I mean that's very good exactly and again When when you've got these guys essentially in the rookie. General hawkins d play last year. I get that but essentially you know. These guys are still very young. And you you can put the behind veterans. Let them grow and develop. It's such a perfect situation for them right now. There's no immediate expectations it lets them play little bit more free as you mentioned. I think hawkins think he feels the same sort of well a pressure and now he's able to just you know play as a reserve and come in and just ball out and and make his case. And you know the same will be true for richie grant who has a rookie. His head is probably swimming as many are so good opportunity for them to you. Do you find it interesting. That both are starting safeties. You know we talked about on previous episodes but they'll technically the week one not playing together like that will be their first time playing the other. Yeah because a lot of times have to be on like similar pages and they will have no game experience together. Yeah that's I guess some of this comes down to the whole debate about how much the preseason games actually matter versus the practices and in versus You know what they did miami with the joint practice. We seems to be out in just reading. The tea leaves from how arthur smith's has has talked about this. Preseason my bet is. The falcons are going to lean more heavily on joint practices in the future. And they're gonna. They're just not interested in playing starters in preseason games. I think the joint practices where they feel like they get their best look at what the team's but see that's what it's like for example. If i was in charge. I probably would have played harris over having like. Aj tyrel out there right like. Because i think it. You know knowing you have jalen hawkins like god forbid and this has nothing on eric harris. It's just he's new here like you kind of want I'm not trying to like attack. Eric harris it's just like i mean it makes sense to have like dionne jones or grady jared out there but air is their level like i don't understand really why he wasn't you know out there in.

"I've written mayans on my own. No no no not there anymore. You're just sitting there. You know so much sunscreen. You need like and it's not like i'm a big bigger human where it's like. I've got a lot of ground to cover. Joe is just. It's every day you have to put the bug. Spray to bug certainly wants are attached bus. Get the bug spray doesn't work. There's there's there's been some interesting moments at practice. Because i will spray bug spray and i guess i'm the only one that does because maybe everyone else have been here for a long time. I don't know put like the smell of it will like wash down to the media tent and then people get mad at me and i sprayed sixty feet away But you know there is off just wafting its way down so those are been the transitions but as far as football goes you know football football. And i'm still trying to find the stories that i would be telling in detroit in and try to tell them in atlanta the types of stories at least keep smith the story about smith's aunt oncle road on on sunday the story about jolson that i wrote a couple of weeks ago. Like that's the status of that. I didn't detroit and done before and south bend and an aunt in in virginia. And all the places. I've been it's just trying to find those stories here and You know doing that as best as best as i can. I've got about three or four five or six. That are not going to talk about on here. That i'm working on right now and you know. Keep rolling from there. So that's a long as they're probably where we're looking for but it's going okay. Other than the the bugs in the sunscreen. What the bugs have really been coming after me too. So i am very sympathetic So i was up at flowery branch every day when quinn took over for mike smith and so i was. You know there on the ground for the start of that regime and it's really weird for me. It's who not have been able to be up and flowery branch. I haven't seen arthur smith interacting with players and i'm really curious about your overall impression of arthur smith so far in how he runs things frizz he's very down to earth is very serious but he's late. He's incredibly late. As far as i haven't seen him like completely like where it was like one of those head turns like whoa. I can't believe he just like went up in. Oh and maybe that's a little bit of the prior regime that covered the my last stop by that chain. My mentality a little bit on that. But he's treats these guys professionally jokes around with them but also he's incredibly serious. They get their work done. There's not a lot of like messing around It's a very crisp clean practice. But i mean he said it yesterday. Because i asked them so. There was a collision between two degreen. Darren hall now look really bad. I mean it was one of those like you earned. It started like car-crash koizumi then again. They're not they're not in pad and they're just comets shows and tj green was holding his head down. And you know usually coaches let that go like get the guy off the sahni. It keeps going in. Practice literally stopped practice until Endless because maybe there was some concern by next stuff but like just did a movement and he's he was there like arthur smith said after bryce i listen i'm not gonna just reverse field and keep going like you make these okay. Make sure it's also big serious. I it wasn't tj green. Darren hall returned to practice so know crisis in a potentially very bad situation averted there that to me stuck out because it's like no he's you know he's paying attention in these being sort within. I think how he's handled players in training. Camp has been very smart if they show the slightest bit of injury or slightest bit of anything. They're held out now. I know that that's sometimes confused fans but you know i mean by cow i remember rubio's was fourth day daycare or whatever and really at what was deemed a veteran rest day. And it was you know there are people on twitter. How veteran no. He's he has a plan to make sure that really understands. It's all about getting to september twelfth healthy and if feel encounter really feels like he needs a recipe or ucla cowper and they give it to. He's been really smart about that. And i think that he's left based off to a pretty good impression anniversary. Any of how. He handles players how he treats them. And it's just a very businesslike atmosphere. Like you can tell you go and you get your work and get your job done and you move on. And that's being. I think what you've also seen with the media and how he handled i. He's what's his personality. Come through every now and then like the back and forth anyhow embattled floor for a couple days fantastic was started because of a question. I asked about it because i just noticed. He was wearing like different great hats every day. So i just ask about choice because coaches are weird about different things like eight you know jim kaba always board. She watches and really he will weeding know for years. Why he did. It turned out. He wore a second watch because he said this on a podcast clover quinn years after gone from that he wore at because martha ford gave him that watch and he wore on her in every game but he never tell us that another thing outside aside manage had with hats he had like we traveled like eleven of twelve like every coach has their different things. Right i thought maybe that was a thing for christmas. So i asked him at You know and pam going after able or jokingly because those are his guys than before i was hoping it would go on all year long but it still might say it stopped because there was a preseason game so yeah what would you cross your general impression of how arthur smith runs thing. So i mean. I think you really covered it there..

"There's a lot of fun drastic. Guys who thought looked really well Michael walker continues to look good in. I know he maybe in this team is in a starter. But he is a starting linebacker. I believe caliber. Why so if. He's a depth linebacker for the team this year. That's crazy solid. One of the starting guys has to come out. And he's a guy that if he gets like a third of the snaps a defensive snaps He's equality. He's looks like he's going to be some quality depth with like you said the potential to fill in for starters maybe long-term even more Which is considering his draft. Pedigree is is really good. You mentioned jonathan bullard. I wanted to point out as well for him again. Another cast off from the chicago bears where he was draft in the third round of two thousand sixteen so again there's some draft pedigree there that maybe hasn't worked out entirely For his time in league but he is Someone that you know. I think when you draft someone in the third round and they don't meet your expectations you move on from them. Well we're expecting him to be like a rotation guy is perfect for us right. And that's that is what we're sort of expecting all guys like that. A couple of things that point out that stood out to me on. Pf yard pace as you mentioned. Have one of the best coverage scores. The second highest coverage score though during the game was a second. Pick richie grant. So that's that's promising. The pass rushing scores. Bullard was one of the highest rated pass rushers but right behind him deady condensing so who has been flashing name. Spain coming up yep and he did have a mistake. oh which actually had. He made that tackle with killed. A one of the dolphins offensive drives. So that's going to happen and you want that to happen. In the preseason but logan digi is making a push to get significant snaps amp potentially at some point maybe this season be a starter on this defense. That is really encouraging to see of him. As far as run defense that was sorta spotty because our best run defenders were like corners. Tj green Del rick abrams. Were both are dwayne johnson. All of whom are in the secondary where our best run defenders so that that probably needs some work of all things considered and favorite monroe was highest graded player on the day. Which makes some sense again. He's he's a starter. You expect him to play well. But some other name jalen hawkins. I thought had a fairly solid game as well. So there's i think if you look at the individual performances again keeping my most of these guys are going to be rotational guys. They're not most of them with the exception of just a few like favor. Moreau are not expected to be starters near one. A lot of these guys thought had moments in did fairly well at very specific things so they're showing the potential to grow into significant rolls over time not immediately. If we're putting a williams out there as a cornerback number three something has probably gone wrong But there is a. There is some signs of of development in some of these young guys speaking of williams special teams. Which evan. oh you you're a big fan of and we actually have to do another podcasts. About special teams in pre going into the season but the put returner Race to this point has been primarily between williams and chris roland where do you think that stands after two preseason games for for those two guys i think amy williams for a couple reasons He looks to more explosive per stopping in this game. Against the dolphins there was only one punt return so it wasn't we get a fair like look at anything and it was just chris roll into bed four yards but i think avery williams just brings to the table. Because i think he's better even right now as at his actual position being cornerback. Been chris roland Being a receiver. Because we as you mentioned we have other receivers not that all of them are great or anything like our death. That receiver is fantastic. But they're going to need better corners than they're going to need more you know of wide receivers at the same level Sophie comes down to it in there like okay. We have to decide between williams enrolling. I think it's going to be williams because not only is he. There guy like rolling from the last regime williams is from this one He's just bringing more to the table at his true position. Plus you look how. He's doing kick returns advocate in this last game. He averaged all three of twenty six point. Three yards and rolling had one kick return any average sixteen Which is in bad or anything. But i think williams is just bringing more to the table so right now. I'd give him the leg-up No fence to roland or anything You know. I won't best man to win. So yeah and i think with you for all those stated reasons and i think the important piece that you really hammered on as well. Is that right now. Every williams is making contributions at his quote unquote position which is a defensive. Back and williams is getting some snaps their turn just a handful. Ten twelve per game in these preseason games. But he's shown that he has a level of competence at the position again. I want in there as a potential starter nickel corner but something that maybe you can work with that. You can develop the put. They're in a spot. If guys are banged up or injured. So i i think. The long term development potential for williams is is big and the the kick returns. We shouldn't discount that because even though we all know quarter o- patterson is going to be kick return this year. He's only here on the one year deal. So the falcons are thinking long term. Twenty twenty two twenty two twenty three twenty twenty four. Who's going to be that guy we're going to put put back there in. Every williams looks apart right now for kick helix more explosive like the eye test take all the stats out of. Yeah exactly one of them was if you told me. One of them took it to the house. I'd say really roy about how he looks when he's running so yeah absolutely I'm with you. I think roland. I think has to show demonstrably that. He's significantly better than williams in this last game. Or i think they're going to default to williams as you mentioned because he is the draft. Pick the thing that he has to be pretty amazing because he'd be knocking one of these receivers off of the roster Night at alcoholic dot com does a roster projection or depth chart projection every week before the preseason game in east he had on the last one. Correct me if i'm wrong. But i believe he had five receivers about ins and a lot of people. Expect it to be five. Who would rolling be knocking out of a job right. Like we know ridley gauge zacchaeus. They're safe then. You have two more. Would you really.

"They're going to have to show up on special teams and last week. I was speaking with evan. After the post game podcast. We're talking about the fact that you know you always gonna see a vanilla offense in preseason. Most of the time you'll see vanilla defense but the one thing where there's not going to be a variation where you can get a good feel for what it will look like during season is special teams and how these guys execute is gunners as protectors as returners That is really where you're going to make the biggest impression in this preseason game so what is your what are your thoughts on special teams and the sudden first half and again the criticality of being able to carve out your role on this unit before you can even talk about being a starter on defense offense criticality that's nice word Thank you I i think one of the interesting things Having having been there and and kind of covered it while the league was adjusting their special teams rules with wedges wedge busters all of that stuff. I remember being in kind of like a little media. Coaching session that the falcons would hold and they were talking about. Just the changes in the way that that special teams was now being officiated. You know having to be ten yards back from the line the boundary areas all of that stuff and one of the key changes was earth. That was kind of a result of those changes. Was that less offensive. Lineman defensive ends these bigger guys. Who used to you know. I remember ben garland was always on the kickoff return unit because he would be one of the last guys back there and kind of be the center of that to manager three men wedge right in front of the returner. That's no longer the case. You're not gonna see those guys. Instead it's going to be linebackers tight ends and then corners and wide receivers as as your gunners yo as we talked about roster construction. I think it's important just to set the table right there. Because these are the positions that are going to be impacted the most by fantastic lanes depth chart. So when we're looking at those guys like foyer con. I remember Keith armstrong said. He was the first person that really brought up foyer to us when he was a rookie. Because he said in the special teams meetings. This dude gets every answer right. He knows every answer to every question that i asked him. He just knows what to do is reliable and dependable. Obviously we see what kind of player foyer has become so these younger guys like errol thompson. You mentioned during ethridge. I thought it was very encouraging richie. Grant made the opening tackle on the kickoff. Yes first game i think. Tj green who kind of ran down the returner when he broke it off for big run and basically stopped him from getting shown. These hustle plays your going to get a lot of breakdowns in special teams. I felt really bad for josh harris. Because he kind of was in his lane on that big return and then the guy's feet because he was a gab over. And whoever was supposed to be manning that gap was was assignment. And i feel bad for him because i noticed that happen. But you're going to get mistakes. It's who kind of threw sheer effort and will makes plays and that's both from a return aspect and from a like a goner aspect a little bit harder to evaluate everybody on special teams. Because you just don't get good angle from the broadcast. It's a much better endzone angle. Which is why. I always good coaches film because special teams just. You can't see a lot of guys but really just the young the rookies. That's the showcase for for them. So guys like avery. Williams chris williamson richie grant. Tj green The the linebackers. That i mentioned the because like jacob tierney mariners. Another person who kind of cut his teeth on gauge russell. Gays was drift drafted. Precipitated your energy guys and then you develop them there and you get the most out of them you you encourage them. They worked themselves in roles. usually on defense whether sometimes it's the by jane graham who's always my favorite player to watch on special teams but but these easier energy guys. These are the the ones where the motor of the team. Kind of really comes from So it's absolutely even in specialties. Maybe the most important aspect of the game to watch which is totally flipped from the regular but real real quick. I want to go back to to your point about dean. Because i kind of had a go for it while you were talking about him and if i could philosophical for a second which i often do Do it. it's it was so fascinating him. Call that first. Preseason game man because you mentioned you mentioned medven aspect to preseason. That's usually very true. It's it's just super cookie-cutter. Here's what we're running in the. Nfl runs the same stuff in preseason and then in practice. That's where you kind of throw in your wrinkles. Dean pees just threw that out the window. Nobody ever told dean pees you were supposed to be vanilla on metrics. He's game. But i think that's a excellent thing. Because this is a different philosophy for these defenders the cover three zone defense relies on making offenses work them selves down the field in small little chunks. Put together fifteen play drives that resulted in a touchdown. The bet is that by not allowing you to beat them deep keeping everything in front. Eventually the offense will either make a mistake or the defense will make a play one sack there behind the chains. And it's very hard for them to then make it up. Because they're playing to the defenses strength. That's what dan quinn rely to do that. You usually get a four-man rush and you dropped seven coverage yeah issue is when you're not able to win with a four-man rush and.

"And. We're back on the alcoholic podcast. This is david walker. Joined by will mcfadden. We're talking about what to watch out for in the second. Falcons preseason game in miami against dolphins. We talked about the offense in the first half. We'll talk about this defense. Some of the guys that obviously worse keeping an eye on We know the guys like we're comfortable with right. Greg jarrett dion jones for your luke. Kuhn we all sort of feel comfortable with many of these starters But there are guys that are in sort of maybe that second tier the the second The rotational guys especially on the defensive. Line maybe guys that could potentially contribute in the secondary where i think there's still some competition going on so as you look at this defense and again with the understanding like we talked about in the first half that were probably gonna see starters a little bit. What are you watching out for on the defense as we go into this. Preseason game if the starter's dupleix. I want to see the tyrrell jalen. Waddell matchup it. S like one of the better Preseason tests that you could possibly get. Because i think they've obviously been competing lot in these joint practices. Which by the way. I i kind of had this thought earlier but decision i think on the part of arthur smith thing yes usually like to do the joint practices and i understand his reasoning but i think especially bumping down to three preseason games. It's imperative the of joint practice because that you more against another opponent and against kind of live competition so to speak so aj terrell and and jalen waddell have been battling a lot in this campaign. It seems like each party has gotten the better of the other one At times so when the lights are on how does that. How does that work out. Because the thing. I think we've been seeing and hearing about. Aj so in camps is that up stairs mentally. It seems to have really kind of clicked for him and the physical tools of always been there but her corner especially you have to be proactively reactive and understand based on your leverage based on a wineman By the wide receiver. Like what are the possible route combinations. What is player like to do. It's a lot like If you're a teacher or maybe a batter facing a pitcher knowing the pitches that pitcher likes to throw the things that are comfortable with stuff like that. It seems like aj's taken a step in in that regard going up against a rookie who is further behind in that part of their game. But physically off the charts. I just wanted to see how that shakes out. And that's aj able to contain them past the starters. Well actually with the starters. I wanna see the outside linebackers. Seems like that's a pleasantly surprising group of guys. They obviously bumped back players like steven means jacob toyota. Mariner and those guys have been getting run with the starting group. Those would also be guys. I would expect to see out there. A little bit longer when the Just because it's kind of a new role for both of them. But i really liked both of them as players. And it seems like they've done impressing that role So then pass them audio. Gandhiji is is obviously a big name throughout. This is exactly what. I look for with a rookie in terms of kind of training. Camp news consistency. Because guys can have splash. Plays isaiah oliver as a rookie can can make a pick on the second day of camp and everybody kind of freaks out. And then we'll maybe that was a little bit of an outlier but doing it day in day out is i think very impressive as a rookie and really something to latch onto and that he kind of also did it in the first. Preseason game is also very impressive. So if he if he kind of comes out and maybe they give them a little bit of a longer. Ron maybe they get them rotationally out there with the the starters leave him in there with the twos and if he impresses then i'll be sold and and he'll be an early favorite me from this rookie class kind of in the way john kaminsky if those two guys can kind of be good serviceable rotational pieces. This year for the defense. And i will think much more highly of this defensive line kind of route than i did two months ago yes so so so that is one thing i'm looking for. Then the these backup corners. I saw i think reports that dwayne johnson has been getting a little bit of run contained corners. Chris williamson was somebody early on in kampuchea flashed and he made one or two plays on special teams in the first game and then tj green those three guys at corner. I will be kind of watching. Yeah that's a completely agree and this to me is the most intriguing unit We sort of we knew going into this season right. Or third smith with the offense you can go back and look at what. He's done in tennessee. The resume their strong. He's inheriting a lot of talent with cowardly matt ryan drafting a talent like call pits but the defense. This is where there was a ton of question marks and that first preseason game i think really wet the appetite of falcon spans. It was impressive. It was impressive. And you know we. Many of sorta speculated okay dean pees has a stellar reputation. In i mean. Nfl like him. He's got to rings for a reason right and it seems like he really making a major difference here apart from guys like grady jarrett dion. Joe's like the ones you're sort of expecting to already be performers. Always suddenly you rookie. Eddie agendas is beginning to show consistency and camping getting run with ones. And you're like wow and then you're dante fowler is looking healthy in explosive as pass rusher This to me. This whole unit is intriguing because of the guy who is now coordinating them and what he can do with these guys a little bit. Further down the roster. You know we're seeing guys like during ethridge and thompson at the linebacker position really show up in camp and show up in these preseason games. There is a ton of possibility with defense. Where not just the key starters. The guys who are going to be maybe just part of the rotation getting twenty twenty five thirty percent of the snaps at most who could be a big part of this defense taking a leap and becoming a maybe even the respectable not not a good unit but enough to not just lose you games every single week as we saw. We've seen for some years. But i'm with you. I love a wanna see. Can ogan digi build on what he's done in camp and what he did in the first game if marlon davidson this healthy can we see him. Continue to build on what he did in that. First preseason game where he looked very very good Even though he was going up against second-stringers essentially We'll a guy like enroll thompson during ethridge to backup linebackers will they carve role for themselves. Show that they can be a good backup. Linebacker behind guys like jones and lucan and as you mentioned the cornerback position pass terrell and the rental starter. We have right now on the row is gonna be a dwayne. Johnson is gonna be dared hall. Is avery williams going to carve out. You know a a little bit of role as a rookie who is really drafted for special teams. And this is and you said it in the first half and think it bears repeating because it's such a consistent truth every year in the nfl many of these guys are gonna have to cut their teeth on special teams to really secure that final roster spot and in going into that To close out. You know this conversation. That i feel like four guys like ever williams guys like Christian blink chris role in. Who's in the competition for that. Pump returning spot austin trammell. Who was early on in in competition for that returning spot..

"With him. When i was doing some research. I i was kinda surprised. I guess i shouldn't have been. But i was surprised. He's only been a sixteen game starter once in his career and now last year in detroit right. He's he's spent the duration of his career prior to that in a platoon in three Safety system with the new england. Patriots alongside patrick chung and devin mccourty. So it ideally. That's the role he's gonna play in atlanta like he'll start out as the defacto like free safety starter. But you know if all goes according to plan your mixing richie grant in their year. Even maybe mixing jalen hawkins in there. And he's continuing to thrive in the role that he's thrived his entire career. And that's a three safety looks. So that's kinda my outlook I guess to throw in one. More name You know it seems like this is a five person race Tj green has has been one of the surprise standouts. A guy that came over to the team last year former second round. Pick of the colts in two thousand sixteen has bounced around indianapolis seattle new orleans in in private atlanta. He spent some time in carolina Very good athletic. Testing a six two and a half two hundred nine pounds ran a four three four which is really impressive for guy that size Thirty nine and a half inch for ten foot nine inch broad so guy that has the athletic profile that you look for from db in there is a connection as well. The falcons on offense Outside linebacker coach ted monitor. Chino was defensive coordinator indianapolis. Oh i don't know if that has anything to do with You know him getting a real hard look and you know knowing what they have in the building in him. And then also terry fought. No you know. I mentioned he. Greenspan a season in new orleans dairy no ran the pro personnel department there. So i'm sure he had a huge hand and bringing him there for a season so he's wanting to watch he's been cross training. Not only at safety net. Cornerback owner those with kennel. Sheffield being out so certainly intriguing. Name that again depending on how the development of which grant goes which. I'm sure we'll get into in a little bit. You could see some significant time. Early on as richie acclimates and south to the nfl. Yeah absolutely. I think same pages you. Eric harris formerly undrafted. He's thirty one years old Obviously I think they're really hoping that one whether the young guys whether it's tj green or you know even preferably Richie grant ultimately leapfrogs harris. I think they would be pleased if that happened. But he fits the profile. He's a guy that you know. He's got the size He can move around well enough You know looking at this. Pf grades a his best. Year was a couple years ago when he was in the mid seventies which is not bad for a for a guy his draft capital just to say none and to add on that that mid seventies grade came when he was kind of a a rotational player. So again and you can. You can say the same thing about their on. Harman i you know. His best grades came when he was in that platoon. So that's that's where. I think the falcons wanna get. These guys is not playing significant snack. When they do things could maybe get a little bit dicey there back there. So that's where we see exactly. It's the right when they started getting more snaps their scores start dropping now in fairness that could be you know when i look at harmon in you. You realize okay you know. He was in there in the world. That's where he had his best grades. Or i'm sorry not new orleans new england and he finally did get Over a thousand snaps with detroit. He was still decent of his. You know we're looking at his. Pf grade who was in the mid sixties which sounds bad. But it's not like a high school grading score that's sort of an average. Nfl player by their by their metrics prior to that he had several seasons in the mid the high seventies. so harman's got the capability to be a good a part time starter and a guy like you said who is part of a platoon and not necessarily carrying every single snap at position In again for the fact that these two veterans they've been in the league for a while. I think the the intention here was instead of just turning over the safety position which is very important in. Dp's defense instead of turning it over to a bunch of young guys that are unproven. That have never started in the nfl before it made sense to bring these guys in in my feeling. Is the minute the minute. One of the young guys is ready to take on significant snaps. They will supplant eric harris or harmon or both at some point during the season if they are not ready. Then you've got these two veterans on your rental deals and no harm no foul so it. It was a smart move in my mind from tariff on note to bring these two guys on it. This is the kind of signing. it doesn't get you a lot of a fancy points with the fans. People they wanna see. Richie grant out there. Because he's the second round pick they wanna see him jalen hawkins because he was a draft pick from last year but really to stabilize the center of that defense Having news These guys out there. Even if they're not necessarily going to be top tier players. They should be decent enough. And i can already hear fans complaining about. Oh we should want decent players. Well honestly decent players are what you need to help you transition to the next tier of guys to bring up the young guys. These are the kind of guys that help you. Bring along richie grant at the proper speed instead of You know we talked about on your podcast this week. You throw richie grant to the wolves that could absolutely decimate his confidence You have those veterans walking him to the process the available to him to answer questions to.

"Dot com. All right we're back. Just walk around. The alcohol podcast. So we're talking about what to look forward tonight in the falcons. First preseason game going up against the titans in atlanta. We talked about the offense in the first half top defense. I want to start in the trenches guys like grady jarrett tyler. Davidson highly unlikely. They're gonna play again if they play. It's going to be one series at most. The guys i think are going to be really getting some significant opportunities in this game number. One player that i think last year many of us were hoping he would have a bigger role but injuries and covert and and all of that sort of contributed to a lackluster rookie season. That's marlon davidson. All signs are that this guy is coming to camp in great shape He looks like he's ready to take on a bigger role in his second year I expect to see him. Play a significant number snaps in this game So definitely look for him as one of the key players to watch in that defensive line rotation likewise sort of one of the guys in this draft classic keeps getting forgotten about to quan graham. I think he's also going to get some opportunities. Maybe more in the second half of the game to show what he's capable of haven't heard much about him in camp again you know. He's he's a day three rookie. So i think expectations going in. We're load begin with but he's a player that's got again. This long wingspan. Some potential for growth in upside down the road Be interested to see how he performs in this game. Probably again in the second. Half john kaminsky who contributed to good bit last year. I think we'll see some of him as well on that defensive line and then a name that's been flashing a lot and camp. Jonathan bullard so definitely pay attention. See if he get some snaps some opportunities and whether he's playing earlier later in the game now outside linebackers it seems unlikely that dante fowler who just recently came back in the same timeframe. Kaelin mcgarry did. He is unlikely to play so the big name here for the assad linebackers to pay attention to is add a ogan digi. He is the the one that's recently be sort of been rising up the the the the depth charts at outside linebacker. For the falcons getting some run with the ones When guys like stephen means in jacob to yo to mariner have been getting some rest ogan deja has been getting in there and apparently has been impressive. now. I don't think we can pence a starter just yet. He is a day three rookie but he is definitely named to pay attention to. And if honestly this is probably the weakest position group. On this falcons defense this pass rush is going to anchor off guys like this. So hopefully ogan deja has something he can offer more. So than like stephen means and two to t mariner because i love what those guys can as rotational pieces. But as starters. I just don't think the quality is there so hopefully ogundipe can surprise us definitely named that. I'm going to be keyed in on linebacker. Dion jones lucon probably again as as veterans. Not gonna play a ton of snaps. Michael walker the rookie from last year. I think he's going to see a lot of action. He had a promising rookie season with limited snaps. He played about one third. The snaps of what dion jones did during the season but walker is someone that i think has got some upside. Sounds like he's had a good training camp. He will probably get a lot of snaps in tonight's game and then passed him during ethridge and rural thompson again to other names to pay attention to that linebacker spot. Now the corners. Aj rail has been tearing up camp. Will we see much of him tonight. I don't know you know. He played an entire season last year. He's not yet quote unquote a veteran. This is only his second year. I think we will see him out there somewhat but maybe not as much as some of the other younger guys so probably see a series or two with aj trail out there Fabien moreau probably not gonna play. I think really the guys. We're going to get a really good long. Look at chris williamson. darren hall avery. Williams williams is also in competition for that punt returner spot. So we're probably going to see a good bit of him on special teams as well Williamson has been a guy. That's flashed a lot in camp. Let's see if that carries over to an actual game. He is a definite name to pay attention to that. Could be part of the rotation if he can keep it up and again you know. This is really the first opportunity for many of these guys who've made a name for themselves in count show that translates into the game and williamson is one name that has really popped recently. Now the to starting safeties. Eric harris drawn harmon both veterans again. Maybe you see him for a series. But i think this is the perfect opportunity to get guys like jalen hawkins last year's rookie Safety in the only carryover safety from the dan quinn era. We lost three of our safeties. As you remember. Richie grant our second round draft pick. This year is probably going to see a ton of playing time in this game Tj green who has been getting snaps and both safety and a quarter. He is someone to pay attention to hear. I think he's one of those players that this coaching staff loves. They love the versatility of him being able to move from safety to corner. So let's see how he does with that in the game so definitely at the safety position. Pay attention to the jail. Hawkins richie grant and even some of the guys behind them and whether or not they can make a case for themselves but right now it seems like the two primary names because they could legitimately get some snaps during the season and significant. Ones are grant hawkins. Pass that to finish off. you know. We talked about special teams the kick returner. Spot is clearly oro. patterson's. I don't think there's going to be any competition there. We know he's he's a dynamic returner and kick returns but from a return standpoint It sounds like it's down the chris rowland and every williams and williams in college was just explosive at the position. So definitely something to pay.

"He caught him and He had that one nice kind of recovery on a low throw so that was nice And then from jack. Savage and from vlad tempests Wanting to know about richie grant Yeah richie grant. He was out there. you know like like what happens to a lot of of rookies. Kyle pits being an exception Because he's you can't keep them off the first you just can't Grant did have to play a fair bit with the second team. He was doing drills the second team but he did Get first team reps in eleven and eleven and seven seven He got rotated in The to starting safeties appeared to be eric harrison drawn harmon for most a practice Tj green got some reps do with the first team so those are the guys that seemed to be kind of in the lead there But yeah any any observations from you on grant on The only thing is. I didn't see him. I saw him out there with the ones here and there but he definitely wasn't getting most of the reps with the ones and that's to be expected as As a rookie. I think why week one hell be a starter Or at the very lease throughout He'll be he'll get there throughout the early part of the season but yet original grant looked pretty good. He had uh he had some nice coverage yod. I think he not sure if you had a pass breakup or if it was just really tied coverage but you know grant. I know the other day. He impressed the coaches had a punch out But yeah you. He's he's looking fine. He's looking bind as a second round. Pick yeah yeah. I mean nothing. Nothing that i would be concerned about you know. I think most rookies. That aren't kyle pets. Because he's just you can't keep them off. The first team that most coaches are going to make rookies earn their spot on the first team. That i'm just gonna give it to you and if your second round or you know i think It it's gonna take a little bit of time. But i think he will by the end of training camp. Be taking mostly first team reps Yet guys Game theory and jason gains asking about zacchaeus and j. b. hawkins did touch on that earlier in the show So because we're strapped. For time. I would just encourage you guys to kinda maybe go back and just listened to the beginning Just move it along here. But yet i think both of them looked really good today. hawkins had that touchdown in zacchaeus. I think pretty clearly the number three wide receiver right now So yeah those. Those guys were impressive And then final question. We're take us for michael waltrip Asking how mccarron and franks look And yeah i mean i think. Aj mccarron look fine It about what you'd expect. Franks i think had a little bit of a shake your day and honestly they they were not giving francs opportunities with the first game or really eleven mental eleven so You know they dad's little bit concerning if you're hoping for francs to They actually had him It was actually the matt ryan and mccarron rotating between their own to ridley and gauge on those red zone drills that i mentioned earlier and then whenever franks would throw a obt to like one of the coaches or two. It was someone like plainclothes every single time. Yeah so it was a little a little interesting. So that you know the the franks hype train so far Stuck in the station But we will continue to report on that if that changes over the the rest of camping. It might it might. He's he's e-e-e-e-no the cairns like what five six year. Nfl vet at this point. So you know it's gonna take frank's awhile to get you almost wanna play off game one. Did he did back in the day but but yeah right now. Karen seems pretty heavily favored at a backup quarterback but it is early so we were. There is some time maybe for someone to make noise. They're mainly flea franks All right guys. Well it's over forty minutes now. "The nose tackle this year because they've kind of backed themselves into a corner with his contract they don't they lose a lot of money for cutting him. It just doesn't make a lot of sense. But i don't think the team is committed to him. Pass this year at all. So they'll need a nose tackle next year. And i think they would like to groom someone they don't have to draft one and all of a cycle polo and john. Atkins two guys. That are nose tackles traditional three or four guys both promising so i think those two are going to duke it out for that practice squad spot. And they'll probably just you know they'll be the primary backup you know they might get elevated to the roster if there is an injury to tyler davidson but otherwise just be kind of learning and you know kind of be slated to take over next year but the rest of the guys. It's like one of these guys is going to get cut and i. I hope it's not john. Quincy i would be really very upset. Kaminsky leaves. Because i just feel like if you can't turn his talent into something because it's not a work ethic thing with him at all like he was constantly praised for being such a high character guy and really working and i think he's flashed a lot to like i. I would just be upset if he doesn't have making the roster so i would be pretty shocked if he did but it's like who doesn't make it's just that that's interesting thing about defensive tackle. Someone's not making it. And ray i think we have jt tm jacob twenty. I think we have him kind of penciled in an edge because that's where the team has listed at outside linebacker but he could also play some interiors. Well we know he has that flexibility and has done that in the past be defensive tackle definitely one of the most interesting ones arguably the strongest on the defense from top to bottom. So we'll see how how that shakes out. One of the more interesting wants to follow another interesting position how that said guys. We'll take a look at cornerback. Which i think is perhaps the most up in the air position of any one in terms of you know other than j tyrrell are any of the jobs set in stone. I don't think so so. Let me read you guys off who the team has right now. So we've got agents or obviously he's going to be the quarter one then we have fabien moreau who seems to be the heavy favorite right now to be the outside guy opposite all opposite agents row. But you know we'll have to see what happens camp. we've also got a former second. Rounder isaiah oliver who seems to be the starting slot guy right now. We have to draft. Picks in darren hall. Who's a fourth rounder. And avery williams was the six rounder williams more special teams guy hall of versatile. Guy We also have a smattering of we. Also kendall sheffield still here from the previous regime still. They're still here. And you know in case you forgot about him. I think i forgot about. Oh my first roster projection. So you know reminding folks he is still here. We have a couple of interesting undrafted guys from last year in tyler hall and dell rick abrahams who both stuck around. There's also chris williamson and we have tj green listed as a defensive back. But he's more of a safety. So i don't think he's really factoring into the corner competition but randy. If you had to pick right now. I mean who are you looking at as the outside guy. Do you like fabien. Moreau there or are you hoping. It's one of the rookies that ends up stepping up and taking that job. I don't know man. Yeah i mean. I grinded the fabien moreau tapes. So you didn't have to. So i don't i. Don't blame you for not watching his like one hundred snaps over the past two years but yeah right i mean you know not gear to figure out you know if he can actually be that guy. I mean i'm. I'm hoping it's one of the rookie. Yeah and that that we've had a good draft and in one of these guys is going to be the guy i obviously like dean pees is like amazing and i'm not terribly worried about picking the wrong guy because i feel like scheme wise. We're going to be able to like adjust to what's going on. And i feel like we're actually going to have a team where the players are schemed to play to their strengths. That we're not going to have people come in and go like no do this thing that you've never done before and the oliver. Yeah why don't you line up on tyreek hill. Yeah that's going to be the player that we want you to be not the player that you are and fit yourself into our scheme and don't you know like don't take into consideration like what what those players strengths and weaknesses are. Yeah not that a player can get better at we get. I mean like start. Be simple so yeah. Yeah i mean that might be the biggest key right overall. It could be that. It's not necessarily that. The players are drastically better. It's that they're used drastically better. And i think that dean pees like what's where he morris took over. The team did get a little bit better about that. And you know the blitzing picked up and they're able to kind of overcome some of their shortcomings in the second half of the season i think over the second half of the season wants remorse took over. They were actually like a fringe. Top twenty defense. Which for the falcons is a big deal that so so. I think that we're gonna see this defense. Look a lot. More like raheem morris's defense and i think will be better. I don't know that he has exactly what he wants to work with this year. They're probably gonna have to cobble it together a little bit. But if anyone dean pees doesn't really have bad defenses. I mean he's had some middling ones but even his quote unquote bad defense at tennessee. They were still like a good defense terms of scoring. I mean they allowed a ton of yards but they were still like a top eighteen defense in terms of scoring even his one of his worst years so he just seems to always get it done. He doesn't always have an elite defense. But i think the fact that he's kind of always been able to cobble together something. Competent is very encouraging. And that might be all that they need right like if they could just get a top twenty defense consistently and not be like the thirty second defense. Offense is as good as it should be then. Maybe that's enough for them to be competitive week in and week out. So we'll see we'll see but yeah. I mean everybody thinking about that quarterback group there. Are you confident in monroe on the outside. You want it to be darren hall. Do you want one of these other guys to get a shot at me. How you feel in there. yeah. I think it's being moreau and then all fair play inside I liked dare del rick abrahams a lot I don't know how far east slips to down six three. Yeah right. I like the size there. tyler hall also like he was undrafted free agent last year who got some playing time in got burnt a lot..

"Be honest with the i know it. It like riles people up. And i didn't have making the roster and he's not. I don't think he's necessarily like not going to make the roster. But i think it's certainly something that should be on people's radar thing. Yeah i don't think what no offense. No great great athlete. I think he deserves to be on a roster but all all he does is run very does run extremely fast. That's what he has. He has good sized too. I mean i think he plays her two hundred so he's got to see. Has it helped. The graham statler techniques need still need some polish Niessen polish heating bala tracking abilities still needs some polish again. The only league thing do very well is he can run as it sounds like a special team has sound like a key guy. You're cornerback rotation. So i think he'd really is fighting force. Flatman is not a guaranteed. Unless you're things yeah. So yeah. So i i like that. We are also hearing. Is oliver getting the first chance in the slot. Play a lot better there. Yeah so you know. That's that's cool. avery. Williams and darren hall. I don't you're the one that's watch holiday. You think he's more of an outsider slot guy in the nfl. I think hall was more of a balaji corner hall is is going to be the one that's gonna give sheffield a fight for that russia spot. I think halls gonna make the roster. It'd be now he's you know he's gonna saying like if if sheffield wants to stay on the roster he's gone best that's one guy that he's going to have to be better than and i'm not quite sure he will be to be honest with you. darren hall is the what darren hall has that jeff doesn't show is this stakes are gonna stand out or did he ever harbor interception already at some point otas rookie navy. Maybe that yeah. I think he was the one that did come down with something like his first. The first or second Rookie minicamp so it was like this right there. He's already showing went as better than kenosha. Yeah that's the thing like an indian. Ps defense you just gotta be opportunistic. And like i think. Ship dan quinn. You know. Valued athletes at corner a lot. More and i think we've seen from the two picks the falcons had they went after guys. Who were ball hawks. Some guys that are opportunistic. Because i think the fa- dp and the facts understand like look. We're not going to out talent. He went on defense especially this year. So like we just need to come up with like a turn if we can average like one turnover a game better like that might be enough for our offense like if our offense is what we think it can be and we can run the ball a bit better like we might not need to be a great defense. We just need to create a turnover to shorten the game a little bit and then we could get by with blitzing and kind of covering up in papering over the weaknesses on this defense by being aggressive. And look. we're gonna make mistakes too. But i think that's the best strategy so we said that after the draft we pointed out the fact that what they have in the secondary right now are are a number of guys that are able to capitalize on turnovers because of their ball skills. This is going to be a. We may not see a guy that has the visit sax this year. I'm willing to bet that. But i think we'll ps is going to try to incorporate. Is that aggressive front. Seven and a back in a secondary that is able to make those plays. Because again you're going to see you wanna see some rush throws you're going to see some overthrows piracy's and tip passes. You're gonna see some some quarterbacks that are fluster trying to make a play and on backing unique guys that can turn into receivers with the ball near. And that's what they did with darren hall and enrichment so yeah. Yeah so it's yeah. I think the secondary is kind of coming together a little bit. I mean. I think it's gonna be great. But you know as opposed to where we stood after they cut ricardo allen. And let walk. And let davante as you walk like. It's doron harmon. Richie grant eric harris eight. That's decent three safety group. Like i mean it's not maybe the highest end group in the nfl but it's very versatile. All three of those guys can play in the box poor deep or cover to look so they can move around like the. Mp's likes you know. I think the corner group is not great. I mean we'll have to see how the rookies do. And i do think they make another addition cornerback or a linebacker. Probably the two most likely spots that are maybe edge on defense but like like. Jc jackson would be perfect like that. I think would really take this over the edge. You don't have to force fabian. Moreau to star outside. But i think they'd be moreau's probably better as like your corner three your primary backup and then you. Can you have oliver in the slot or whoever but more rose. I think i think so. Too honestly. like marc mckee's farm jesse jackson. But yeah right is. He's not he's not. You know a special type of talent but you know. He's i think he's gonna be just fine out there he. He played very well at times in washington on edge it was it was the slap where they try and the washington try to make him be a slot corner in s mathis day. And and that's where he that's why he went awry I think a like a monday or manage. Yeah yeah. I liked that a lot better to see. We'll see what darren hall and avery williams. Like i don't know if he's going to get a lot of run on defense this year but i think they're going to see what they have and see if they can trust him to play the slot in the future. Maybe he's a guy that just needs more experience. I think but. I think his freshman and sophomore year. She had eight and nine pass deflections in each year. So he's a guy that can get his hands on. The football size is really his thing. So we'll see if We'll see if he can carve out a role too. But yeah i mean williams's path will be special teams and we haven't heard too much about how that competition between him enroll into going. But i think darren hall. Probably pretty safe kendall sheffield. Is someone who we talked about. Probably going to have to show something in camp. Unless he's banking on them keeping six corners which we know dean pees likes to run a lot of three safety stuff so you know them. Keeping six is not a guarantee they might want to keep five safeties. Tj green guy. A lot of people don't know he did. Green is a good player. Like he's he's a decent. You know extra safety and they still jalen hawkins too so they might want to keep five safeties. I think a lot of that also is going to depend on. And we got. We just got done with this. What is not the result of a. Julio trade is far as clearing that castaways because they get the cap space that they're looking for they're going to have some extra cash to to bring in some free agents all season and you're still a couple of guys at there on on the market as safety that i think you know the team may give a look me cooker is one guy that comes to mind Often injured but you know if he's healthy and he's he's able to incorporate those ball skills as well right. He's going to be a nice pickup for this offense secondary month. Yeah i agree. I agree so all right next. Topic left guard battle. One of the most interesting battles most important battles of training camp so far it looks like josh andrews is leading the competition which is surprising because like we said like twitter. He's a veteran. he's probably going to get the first crack just because of experience but Evan i'll let you get a word in here we just been talking. But what do you think about the left guard battle so far..
