"Okay, I'll check that somebody sent me something too vast. There. If I were the mayor and I wanted to actually save lives A I wouldn't invite thousands of people to come down and protest against the police. That's the first thing I wouldn't have invited all those people to come down in protest against it. And that's the bigger part of the story that nobody, the news media's reporting. There was a 6.1 uptick from of Corona virus cases from mass gatherings. Mass gatherings was I tell you Where was the mass gathering? It was the mayor's mass gathering. But what I would do is say, look. These are the people who are vulnerable. These are the people who are a higher risk of dying. You need to get your vitamin D check this. Still not saying that. I don't understand. You need to get your vitamin B check to make sure you're not vitamin D deficient because there are multiple studies that show that if your vitamin D deficient and you get Corona virus It makes it to the hospital or worse, so make sure you have your vitamin D levels checked. It's just good health since to start with, but certainly during a pandemic, make sure that your vitamin D levels are where they're supposed to be. So I went Teo, a urologist. Was it yesterday? And they were there monitoring some stuff with me, and they drew my blood. And I said, Can I get my vitamin D check now? We can't do that. Here. I'm going. Okay, so they're making extremely hard to be healthy these days, but that's a whole different story. If you're vulnerable. You stay away from the bars and restaurants downtown and everybody else comes. If you're vulnerable, you stay away from the Titan Stadium. Everybody else goes to see the ball game. If you're vulnerable, you stay away from high school football. If you're vulnerable, you stay away from school. Everybody else goes about their business. And that's the way you lied. And we're not getting that from really anybody in this state. Quick time out. We'll be back right after this..

"That got me thinking what was my longest played appearance in regards to pitch count and I mean I gotta be honest with you right so even if you run. The. Count full you fell off one, maybe two pitches you're looking at a seven pitch at-bat that's not out of the ordinary. A lot of players are a lot of guys will do that. If you play long enough if you play travel ball all across the country games in the summer, the fall of the spring, all of the above you're going to have seven eight, nine pitch at-bat. But typically when you hit double digits, you get to eleven twelve that's when things in the dugout start to pick up once again, people start to. Get excited. There's a line there were like come on guy just put the ball in play. Let's get this going. What are we doing here? I mean just square it up either strike out throat and play, and then you get to pitch thirteen, fourteen fifteen and all of a sudden you find yourself on the other side going, hey, you know what? Let's see how long this can go let's see this guy keep throwing it in the zone. Let's see. You keep spoiling good pitches and ultimately it. Let's see how this turns out so. I think my longest at-bat was probably twelve or thirteen pitches. If I have to remember it was down in Texas one summer I think we were in Louisiana happily playing the ace is who was out of Louisiana in the Texas League and it had a twelve thirteen pitch at bat ultimately I think I flew out to right field. Same thing that kid just kept pounding the zone I have fallen off breaking balls and I kept chasing everything that wasn't in the zone because ultimately I didn't want to get called out on close third. Called Third Strike After pitch number twelve wanted to walk I was essentially up there to put the ball in play and if it fell in, it fell in but ultimately, I couldn't even imagine get into nineteen pitches and the record here we have Let's see if I could pull it up. Yes. giants Brandon Belt had twenty one pitch at bat against Angels Pitcher Jamie Berea in two, thousand and eighteen. He had twenty one pitches and it lasted thirteen minutes was the most on record for a plate appearance since they started keeping page counts for specific blade appear it's kind of fascinating. Oh man shout out to Thi-. Bar Winning the battle after nineteen pitches. But I just thought that was fascinating and wanted to bring that up here. Another headline that's recently come out as Justin Timberlake. That's right JT. My man, the entertainer he is investing in the effort to bring a major league baseball team to Nashville Tennessee timberlake says quote I am thrilled to be involved in the movement bring Major League Baseball to the Great State of Tennessee. So basically what I just said, Timberlake, is somebody that's world known huge in the area and the region in the state he supports baseball and all other things other handful of. Investors trying to get a team to Nashville, Tennessee certainly doesn't look like it's going to happen in two, thousand, twenty one or even twenty, twenty two but I do think it's in that conversation of happening soon after depending on if they're able to get enough funding to build a stadium where they going to put it in regards to the city is going to be close to the Titans Stadium are they're going? To do kind of one area of professional sports. That's what Philadelphia does. They have the basketball and hockey arena right next to the baseball and football stadiums they all share kind of one huge extended parking lot. So no matter the event that's taking place there's always enough parking. There's always enough tailgating it's pretty well done. So they need to figure all of that stuff out in Tennessee and in Nashville and ultimately. If, they're going to make a move but having the name and having the image of the of Justin timberlake behind you as you're starting to try to implement baseball is certainly one that I think would benefit you I I mean myself as a thirty one year old millennial. I've grown up with jt from his days back and then sink till now as a movie star all the way back to music here. Having him invest in baseball makes a ton of sense. It's a great investment. We've seen Patrick Mahomes do it here recently sell JT FROM MEMPHIS from. Tennessee. Going home I like it I'm all for it. I think a a major league team in Nashville would be a good thing for major league baseball. I would certainly be a destination I would love to travel to even if the locals aren't filling out the stadium day in and day out, it would be a destination travel trip for the rest of the teams that's for sure and their fan bases. But wrapping up here the second segment I just want to dive through the injuries that. Are taking place across Major League Baseball I'm sure I'm GonNa, Miss One or two here. But keeping you guys updated Justin Turner of the dodgers he could return from the injured list by this weekend What Dave Roberts told us the other day he's been out since August, twenty ninth with a hamstring strain but they're hoping to get him back into the lineup sooner than later you got Robert Guests, woman for the mets multiple times he walked off the field Tuesday night he had to bend over because he was unhurt. Day Riot a day later testing revealed a fractured rib which ended his season. So the injuries continue for New, York and guests. Woman has a fractured rib led to all that pain that we were watching him go through the other night the Blue Jays are trying to get everybody back as well as losing some more people to. The injured list I mean the the names of Boba, Shat Ken Giles. Nate Pearson. Matt. Shoemaker Jordan Romano are all going to be coming off her on the injured list here shortly they placed Rowdy Tellez on the ten day injured list with a right knee strain but Boba Shet came off the I l. and played six innings the other day this week. So he'll be back Ken Giles Giles's close to returning. They expect him you know early next week if not, this weekend Pearson is starting to ramp up. From, right elbow tightness shoemaker starting to ramp up in play catch and long toss remond. Oh, he's the only one that doesn't have a timetable yet. So it looks like Giles's the closest followed by Pearson with Ramana it'll be in the last one to come back from the injured list up there in. TORONTO. Eric Hosmer and Tommy of the Padres, hosmer was removed on Monday after he was hit from a fastball and the hand, he suffered a left index finger fracture broken left index finger Haas on the ten day I l, and could miss anywhere from two to six weeks as the range is very wide there because this looks like it's GonNa be or sounds like it's going to be a pain management issue for Eric Hosmer out there in San Diego. Tommy Fan meanwhile he's making great progress trying to return from surgery to repair a broken bone in his left hand he found himself taking batting practice for the first time Wednesday could be back in the lineup shortly. Then you have Matt. Chapman Marcus Simeon for the Athletics Chapman was held out of any throwing her hidden on Tuesday as he's dealing with right hit tendonitis..

"If you were going to hold it open air. Massive Brown's behind. The Whitman Airport where they hold the EA grounds, there's also Titan Stadium and ask a lot of places you can hold it in Oshkosh if they want to do it, maybe they're going to check the weather to make sure opener is going to I. Don't know. So anyway, I don't have any information beyond just pay attention I'm sure you'll get some. Yesterday's program I was discussing. And this whole issue has been created because of the obsession by the left on race and identity. We had terms and they go out of vogue. Then you become racist if you use those terms with the common term that was used in the fifties and sixties in the United States. For Black Americans was negroes that term is virtually never used, but still remains in the names of some black organizations. Many of you have heard of the United Negro College Fund, which was an organization that supported many fairly good black universities in the south the N. double ACP for Heaven's sakes. That is National Association for the Advancement of Colored People people who use that terminology now they look at you as if. You ought to be putting sheet out of your head. So the words change we went for black and then the term evolved became African American. Well this problem with that. Not all black people are African. American. There's also been the discussion as America becomes a society that is really a melting pot where so many of us are. Of Mixed race and mixed ethnicity. When are you African America as opposed to? Dutch American. Or Asian American. Tiger Woods is the classic example of this question and tiger with an American tiger woods has so many different ethnicities that are in there that it's impossible to describe them as anything other than an American. So anyway. This has been brought up on the. Top of the Harris situation because she has made references to where South African American and some black people don't like that. There has been some social media suggested that white. Racist, Republicans are accusing Harris of not being African American in fact, this has been entirely raised by the left. Most people on the right couldn't care less. They just consider us all to be Americans. You're going to hear here is an audience change from CNN y'all Don Lemon. They're real lefty American commentator you to hear two voices on here as part of a panel discussion that he had but he's arguing with a supporter of Cobbola Harris. Who's defending her herself as african-american and Don Lemon who's a big liberal estate? She's not African American. Harrison. Factor ethnicity is she is part Indian. And Part Jamaican. And it's a kind of a rock and it's hard to follow. But Levin is obviously the male voice that's in this exchange. This was a year. This is how the lefties were saying that couple Harris was way out of line for any self reference to herself being African American and as I say down lemons not a conservative. This is when liberals did like Kabul the Harrison never tried to essentially say that she was opposed engage in in. Really stealing of a heritage that was not hers. Anyway. Listen to this. One, she is a black woman. She's a mixed race woman. When you see her, you see her blackness, but she is also South Asian. Her Mom is South Asian and her dad is Jamaican as April April. Listen more power to her and I think it's great. That is that should be enough. Is enough that he's a black woman. No. No No. You're not. You're not what people are saying the people who are saying she black that's ball. That's BS. But to to. Shakes, into say is she African American or is she black or she whatever that what's there is nothing wrong with that there's a difference between being African American and being black. People let People Latino. People are people of Color, but they're not black. They're Brown people. She's okay follow but she is a black woman. I agree with that I agree with that but see African, American. But African American. There's a difference. There's nothing wrong with that. No one is trying to take anything away from. Your fault think. Also say I am black. African, American that's it. I'm not falling. Let let me let me finish hold on. I'm not falling into a trap by that when when when she both download lineage many Africans landed on in Jamaica and all these other Caribbean on. So she could endure. With others but she's She is a black woman she wasn't. Tag Crew Ted. Cruise. You, know what we can. Eclipsed. From. CNN from a year ago in which you had to lefties arguing about whether or not Cavallero should be calling yourself African American. All of this becomes almost the forest because it's the left that has been so So obsessed with identity anyway, and the defender of her use of the term is saying well, luck some African Americans came over to Jacob just the but everybody at some point came from somewhere. How anyone is going to trace? The ethnicity of the Jamaican Ancestors Kamala Tomah Harris's beyond that, and then lemon says, well, I it's not America. Well. Fear. Radically Jamaica which is in the Caribbean as part of North America. It's an island. America isn't just the United States of America but you see the whole problem here when it's the left that has created all of these labels clearly. Tomei. Harris is an individual of mixed race and even the supporters say. Saying India's she south Asian offer crying out loud. Posing a saying Asian that India is Asia just as just as Germany is in Europe and just this candidate is in North America but the the this started when for whatever reason and like I say I'll use whatever turn people to use what do I care. It started wed. We moved away from the use of the term black and went to African. American, which as many people played become gets a little confusing because Africa is a continent it. We don't refer for example to people who are French is being European Americans become french-american so talion Americans and so odd and Africa is a continent and Africa is it entirely black for northern part of Africa's a lot of white people Egypt a few other countries as well, and a confident doesn't create a race whereas the word black applied. A race but see a go into this in which these terms used for whatever reason, and now you come to the question that the debating just because someone is black are they African American and many liberals were arguing that Kamala Harris is not and that she's been engaging in cultural appropriation throughout her political career by saying but that she's an African American at appealing to African American supporters whereas she something else I care what she is. All I know she's a lefty but for the left that is obsessed with all of this identity politics, it becomes important as she appeals for the so called African American vote I. Suspect Don..

"That very very quickly. Katie was talking about. We were talking about these scooters. I like to call them the damn scooters, right? Yeah. They've got the line scooters. You've got these other kinds of guy just call them the damn scooters. They're all just, you know, they're, they're impacting communities all over America and here in Nashville, I my head literally exploded. So we just finally had our first I at death because of one of these scooters twenty six year old guy was on a scooter and he made a left turn right in front of a moving vehicle. And a vehicle ran the guy over and he's dead. And now the family is calling four scooters in Nashville to be to be banned in, so our mayor, she's just a numb nuts guy, this, this mayor came out. And he said something to the extent, Devon, I don't have it in front of me. But he said, yeah, you know, we may have to relook at this policy because, you know, obviously, we've done something wrong and people are now dying in what frustrated me about that was that it's common sense that somebody was, obviously going to die because of these scooters emergency rooms in Nashville. I'm sure this is the same in San Francisco. The number of people going to these emergency rooms is skyrocketing because of these things and we're not just talking about the people on the scooters. We're talking about people like me, and you who are smart enough, not to get onto the scooters, but we end up, you know, being knocked down by a scooter or whatever it is. Yeah. I'm seeing what you're. Your gem of a mayor said Nashville prides itself in being a friendly and welcoming city for the thousands of tourists. Visit visiting us each month, but we also must be a safe city based on what I've witnessed firsthand, the recent influx of scooters. Yes. In our city is causing us to be less safe and more visually cluttered, visually cluttered. Okay. We got we got worry, visually. We're worried about being visually cluttered, but, but that, that is interesting, though, because I hate to agree with our mayor Briley. But it really does clutter up the street. But that's the least of our problems. The problem is that people are as I said, people are dying and what I said it the time I wish I was one of those hosts that would flag the tape to prove that I'm right. Because a couple months ago, I said, it's only a matter of time before somebody dies on one of these things, and then I guarantee you, you're gonna have all of these various lawmakers saying, oh, these scooters have to go and sure enough. It was only a couple of months later, that sadly, somebody died, and one of the things that was brought up is when you are on one of these scooters, they don't necessarily give you any real training and my thought was, why don't they have you go to like the parking lot of titan stadium or something which is in downtown and. And. Takes some sort of a class, maybe a baby a driving class so that you at least know what it's like to be on one of these scooters. We have because you have one of those services here called scoot. And you can actually rent a motorized like moped. Yeah. And I see people on these things all the time and I'm like going. Do you have a licensed to ride that thing 'cause I'm pretty sure you're supposed to have an m one to get on one of those things, and it's almost like we need to develop like an S one? A scooter one to go you get people trained on these because first of all, they don't ride them in the right places. And second of all they go into traffic. Go into traffic. They're running we have, we had one incident here, where to scooters. They were both going. I forget how fast it was. But they were going fast. They ran into each other. Cheese. I would have paid money to see that. I that's what I said at the time. I just wish I so wish there was video of this. We don't the thing is the thing. Is this twenty six year old guy that died? I feel really bad for the family. And again, the family is now calling for these scooters to be banned. I guess my question would be this. People want to blame the scooters, people want to blame the city and I I understand that. And this gets into a very awkward conversation. The person that gets on the scooter when they don't necessarily know its power or how to use it. They are putting themselves in a very dangerous and precarious position. Yeah. That makes sense. Now. If you don't know how to if you haven't practiced on one of these scooters, and you're throwing yourself out there. Right. And yourself into traffic. God knows what's going to happen. Right. Your hand isn't all that. Yeah. Well, there was a, there is a video of a woman here in Nashville. It was almost comical, where she was on one of these scooters. And she looked to be a woman of a certain age, kind of like me. I'm fifty one and you know, she was on the scooter. She faced planted into the street. But as she's writing along this scooter, you watch the video, it's clear. She doesn't know how to drive this thing. And so as you watch the video you're saying to yourself because she's in the middle of traffic. You're saying to yourself. Off the scooter go to an empty parking lot. Learn how to ride the thing with some confidence because you're gonna hurt yourself, and that is, is exactly what happened. She hurt herself. Now, the flip side of that is that if you're on a scooter, Ed, you get more confident on it. Then you may not be as careful as you otherwise would to the bottom lies with the scooter just they've just gotta go. That's my two cents. I said that the other day they've just gotta go. Have you ever knocked one of them over? That's a really fun. That's the fun part. That's why they want him gone completely because they're you know, when you knock them over and alarm goes off. Oh, really? No. I haven't knocked went over. I, I will tell you that I have come very close as a lot of us have to either being hit by one or or, or hitting one so either way. But for a lot of people in, in towns, all across America, I know in Los Angeles. They also have a problem with these things people are getting hurt. And my question would be. And I asked this on the air the other day, and it seems to be like a gray area, which scares the living daylights out of me. So at what point will the city of my city of Nashville, or the city of San Francisco when are we going to start being held accountable for the stupid decisions of the scooter riders, and the scooter companies are we going to get to a point where the city is held liable? And we're going to start facing lawsuits because people are getting hurt. Oh, yeah. It's something interesting because I've never heard of a liability situation with these scooters. There must be there must be waivers. I don't know. But at least for me when I look at these stories about scooters, and I see these local politicians who they're all dour and sad. And in morning when somebody dies as they should be. But, like a lot of times, you wait until somebody is dead before you make the decision that you should have made months ago, I figured it out, we need scooter control. That's exactly what it is. We need. We need more scooter control. Is there a move in San Francisco? I know that you're reading the story there. So a here in Nashville, the mayor's now said that they need to look at all of these different scooter companies, and they've given them like thirty days to give a new proposal, as to how to stop people from dying and I don't know what really the mayor is trying to do. See here in Nashville. The, the local government gets an infusion of cash from these scooter companies. So if you put, you know five hundred scooters on the road. You know, I think we get a couple of hundred thousand dollars and Nashville is a city that is massively in debt, a somehow we're massively in debt, even though we're the it city. So this is a big money boon for the city of Nashville, which is why they are not necessarily as willing as they wanna be as they should be to take these scooters off the road. So I don't know if there's a movement in San Francisco to do the same thing. But I know that a lot of these communities are there's some communities. I think it was L Paso, Texas. They're even a passing laws. No New Orleans, New Orleans even passed a law banning the scooters before they could even start thinking about coming to New Orleans. Well, that would be a disaster on bourbon street, wouldn't it? Yeah. It would it very much. Yes. Can you imagine that? All right. It is. Seven forty four right here on talk radio five sixty K SF it started when he lost his job, then rejection turned into mood swings. And he sunk into a place. You couldn't reach he threatened ending it all. And you didn't know how to help but there is one thing you can do remove the gun for now..

"And cons of both. How some of the cons that are around buying. Sometimes you can go around actually cotton's at all. And then, you know, we've had just simple ones that are just like how to buy a house the whole process step by step, and and the channel property Queen just property queens is on YouTube YouTube. Yep. If you get you guys got to go check it. I did a recent video with the football Super Bowl spin. And I mean, they're all out there rocking it out. And it's it's a good video, ma'am. But check, oh, it's always. Yeah. We had the whole titan stadium to ourselves. Yeah. It was so much fun. And you have to tell us how you pulled that one off. Yeah. Had some connection. But health all that. And we had like alone. You didn't answer that. Nike. No to get everyone ready for the Super Bowl and patriots are my team. So of course in that jersey. Cutter Mike off she's done. You can't take anything away from Brady's. Whether you like me eight is a quarterback. So David why is it so hard for builders to build an affordable house? I mean economics. I mean, how expensive is dirt around Nashville right now. You're it depends. I mean, looking for lots around Nash, you're looking gonna play at least one hundred thousand pad just toward the infield stuff on normal four hundred thousand dollar house even out development areas. You know, you might be who knows ten to twenty thousand in in broad dirt. But by the time you develop it that could be an additional thirty five to sixty to seventy seven thousand dollars additional from the cost to the acquisition cost. And of course. So now, you're gonna clean fifty and seventy thousand hours before you even start building. So you're between one hundred fifty potentially the two hundred thousand or more just for the dirt before you start foundation. And absolutely. So then by the time, he built a house, you know, good size three bedroom. House easily you're at four hundred thousand. You can do it cheaper. When you're looking at, you know, the smaller you build more at cost per foot. Right. Yeah. Everything in and. It's just, you know, try it then prices Dale its economy is where everything's good. So the prices for everything costs more is good for everybody. Not just a seller. Right. I wanted to make sure we touched on that. Because a lot of people will look at a builders and say why charge so much of that house? You don't necessarily see the cost of it started with that on one thousand two hundred thousand just for the third and in certain areas you got metro ordinance where if you've got a sidewalk or their sidewalks in the area they're wanting to put a sidewalk in. I mean, we've talked with Chris Corbeau a couple of times about some properties in east Nashville where it was like ad in sixteen to twenty five thousand dollars more per house. Just for this concrete sidewalk that's mandated by the city codes AC. See there's all this stuff that goes in behind the scenes at the normal person doesn't see. But yet all they see is Watson house four hundred thousand watts at five, and why can't you build some two hundred thousand or the dirt's cost in two hundred thousand in some cases are more. Yeah. So it's there's a lot of things behind behind it, all it's not just a simple conversation for us to have a mean, there's there's ways, but then it just I don't wanna see you get politics and on the other stuff in place. But it's there's there's a lot you know in in. Williamson county, you know, you have a lot of fees for schools, and and the other taxes and stuff like that. And now they I mean, it's not. It goes to something. But the buyer doesn't understand that don't understand that it cost distant fees. We might be twenty to thirty thousand dollars more in a different county than we are somewhere else. Yeah. There's a lot of lot of factors. Yeah. Me it's every every I mean, heck, you can have different CDs are different areas within like Davidson that'll charge you you might be able to get permits in one area that's five grand. But then you're two miles down the road, not paying twenty five grand for the same permits, and the average person can't understand I can't necessarily understand it other than okay? Oh, it's zip code. So that much more to give me a permit, really? And it changes all the time. We it's hard for us to understand sometimes. Yeah. So it's there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes that creates affordability issues. I mean, it's just it's not just the home price it self. It's how did you get to that home prices? I mean of there's a lot of his transferred out. We would love to be able to a main. We'd love to be. I mean, it's got to. I mean, we've been saying for years on the show. This just the.

"Store infrastructure problems in transportation, health and welfare, economic growth and storm water management, especially in urban environments. We can call a dual purpose infrastructure sobbing infrastructure goal. Like improve mobility, but adding a human scale benefit as well. So for today. I want to argue for one thing we need to provide incentives and flexibility when we build our infrastructure to make it green and public useful. When possible. So provide a lot of flexibility to mayors two states, whatever to think about these solutions that can help an infrastructure problem. But at the same time make their cities more with higher quality of life and more green. So I remember someone telling me this use ago, and it's more of a political statement that our generation is a generation of users that the generations before us where the generations to build harm violent. We're using an environment that infrastructure, and we're not replacing it. There has been a huge shift over the past fifty years from suburbia to urban and with that shift. I think is also a change in the way cities have to function more than eighty percent of the American population lives in urban and metropolitan areas. And as these cities are densify, mayors and planners and civic leaders are beginning to look at to help them address are pressing urban infrastructure challenges power water transportation waste, I really those systems that allow us to live together. Well in cities. Green infrastructure is using natural systems instead of the concrete and steel to provide as many of those services we can. This is a re air C span radio programming from Tuesday. I've I've been appointed to be a co chair of the US chamber of commerce's business cast sports on water policy under the direction of Chuck Jesuits. Today, I'll focus on some examples of how parse can handle storm water issues? The idea is how we can we manage stormwater using green infrastructure creating a multi use facility. A park that public Greenspace during most of the year, but underneath it infrastructure, which would handle stormwater. So along the Atlanta beltline, there's the Atlanta there's the Ed Lanta storm water park fourth ward park. The original design was the Bill a major concrete tank under sixteen municipal parking lot. Doled storm water. That would have cost forty million. Instead the city chose to build a park that cost twenty four million. It's a sunk in part because you can see and stay save sixteen million dollars in these construction. But it spurred development and it spurred development around this new park of five hundred million dollars. Nashville is another example, it's had major flooding along the Cumberland river the area has also been a blight for the city. The people of Nashville thought how can we address both issues? They chose green infrastructure a waterfront Kark to help make the city more resilient lot of protected land. So that when the river overflows, it's not really hurting anything. They chose. Green infrastructure waterfront park to help them make the city more resilient generating geothermal energy underneath the park with a four hundred thousand gallon water harvesting tank. It is a major outdoor performance venue for the city and the come on river is now a major focus of new development. Connecting downtown. But that's connecting downtown to the titan stadium. Houston is the bayou city city was built along the us.

"Network. Lungs part of your weekend. You're tuned into Tennessee matters. I'm Robert wan as we get into the new year. There are lots of people that might be thinking about new paths for their careers, of course, in economy in which the job market and different opportunities are always seemingly influx. It also seems so too are some of the things that people are looking for in their next employment opportunities that's part of what we're talking about. With the guest joining us on the phone this morning. He is the director of permanent placement services for Robert Half Nashville that stands show-me. Oh, dan. Good morning to you. Happy new year to you. Hey, good morning. Robert and happy new year to you as well. Talking a little bit about the way things are going in the economy and people looking perhaps for their next opportunities whether or not they're in a position or they're just between their different opportunities. But your company put together a study. Recently, looking at some of the dynamics surrounding some of the job search is what do we know? Well, there's actually some new with with the new year starting a lot of people are making new resolutions. And our office team division has done a survey. That's quite a few people here locally as well. And and we found that forty six percent of local employees are are looking for things like fitness facilities and programs and health and wellness offered by local employers here in Nashville, which is is greater than the national average pretty significantly as well when you're talking about some of these things I ve lived here in the mid state for almost four years now, but I spent a lot of time in the on the west coast and in the bay area. And so the things you're mentioning I hear things that that I guess maybe. A lot of high tech companies were the first to really make a conscious effort not only making these opportunities available to employees really making them a highlight in a in a prominent feature to employment in these particular companies one is this what we're talking about predominantly as far as the companies that were were mentioning, and is it is it is it does go beyond. Absolutely. It is. But it does go beyond just technology. Nashville Scott, one of the lowest employment unemployment numbers in the country. So because of that it's giving employees opportunities to to find things other than just salaries that are important to them. So I as as the market titans and NS as tight as it's ever been here locally, their employees are looking for other things that are more valuable such as work life balance and health and wellness, facilities, end or providing discount. Free gym memberships in those types of things when you're looking at some of the companies that have been I guess, maybe looking at whether they're adding these things or or supplementing some of these benefits that they already have. What's your sense of how the dynamic is shifting in Nashville? Are we talking about companies that are new to Nashville that where we see? That's our running joke in the mid state, right? The the unofficial bird here is the crane because of all the construction there's so many high rises and buildings that are coming in the newer opportunities that are provided by new companies coming to Tennessee, or we talking about existing companies that are maybe just trying to keep up actually think we're talking a little about a little bit of both. I think as so many new employers are coming into the city employers are realizing that to keep your top talent right now, you have to have you have to come up with creative ways to to keep them engaged in happy. And thriving in the workplace, and and health and wellness has become that much more of a staple in this environment. So if you're a lot of times these employers, and it can be your new companies, and you're well established companies as well. A lot of times the reason they promote these opportunities as they may not I mean for one it costs them significantly less than healthcare expense. If your employees are healthy. When we're talking about some of these benefits, and and some of these perks, obviously, the fact is that for some industries and some companies these are still worlds away from a reality for for for a lot of workers. But understanding that the probably more and more companies are going to have to provide some of these these different opportunities and features and benefits. What are maybe the hot items that you you suspect people are looking for most well from an employer perspective, some of what's being offered, and and employees potential employees as well are discounted gym memberships or I played golf earlier or last week, and I played golf, and I what one of my the friends that I was playing golf with. He's rewarded substantially from his healthcare provider from an from his employer for for keeping an elevated heart rate for. For for tracking his steps those types of things. So those are some of the things that are provided fitness discount on gym. Memberships is one area that's done. Sometimes it's it's doing a company sports team or a company jogging club or walking club. Those types of things that sometimes they don't cost a lot the employer a lot of money to to get those things started within a workplace, and it really helps overall productivity from employees as well. If you're just joining us Dan show from Robert Half nationals joining us as we discuss some of the dynamics that are going on in modern day twenty nineteen job searches. And and I guess for that for that matter job retention is a lot of what we're discussing. I think it's still safe to say you're free to correct me or expound on. This is the fact that a lot of some of what we've just discussed with some of these these benefits that go with these competitive. Lisa after jobs. There's we're still talking predominantly white collar jobs. We're not talking about a lot of a lot of blue collar opportunities, and maybe even service industry type positions that that that's still a fair assessment. Yeah. These are mostly office related jobs at I'm referring to from from our study. What are remember when I was in the bay area? And a lot of this was becoming like, hey, wow. Yes. It gets to do this kind of stuff the ones that were at that point. They were new where opportunities like you get your laundry done onsite. You just had to bring it. And they would you know, they'd bring it back to you. By the end of the day, kind of thing the transportation where you can get on the bus that would take you anywhere from within like an hour ninety minute radius away that it would come pick you up. Those were the ones that were were knew what are some of? Maybe the things that people aren't thinking of that. That are I guess. Maybe the things that are the jewel benefits these days. Well, those are certainly still things that are offered as well. And if you go outside of the healthcare, flexible, flexible scheduling is now kind of important as Nashville continues to grow, and the traffic is getting worse than it was it's nothing like some of the other major cities, but it's continuing to get worse. And and more and more people are moving here. So so flexible scheduling parking downtown a few years ago, it was pretty easy. And now it's become a pretty expensive to employees es and four employers to handle in terms of assistance with their employees. So oftentimes there there's there's some partnerships with the downtown with national national downtown partnership where they provide free parking at titan stadium and shuttles or so part, but parking reimbursement for for parking can be valuable in the downtown area and other areas that's not as sizeable but back to the healthcare. Side. A lot of employers are offering desks now that are more advantageous such as sitting standing even some we've heard are offering like walking treadmill type of desks that people can work out as well. As we wrap this up ten maybe put a button on this. Because the fact is that while companies in general their their people to be happy. There's clearly a financial dynamic to this financial benefit to all of this. Not just ahead. So cool that they're serving lasagna on Tuesdays. That's the that's not what they're getting that. There are financial benefits for companies that provide all these things that might sound like they're their financial luxuries talk just generally about how that how those numbers are are going as far as, you know, why companies want to continue to do these kinds of things then for our listeners that are interested in finding out more about what your team found out in in this study where can they go online to learn more about some of the. The things that you've discovered. I absolutely. So in in this environment where Nashville unemployment rate, I believe in the one that just came out in January set for December the unemployment rate Nashville, I believe it was two point five or two point six percent. And so because of that employees are having to compete outside of just a straight salary in and to do that some of these things sound expensive, but replacing current employees where you have to go back in you have to try and find a talent as this not this not extensively out there right now, and to retrain and and to cover that the area when when you're short, and and your staff with other people that are over taxed as well. It's difficult. So it's a lot less expensive for employers to create a workplace or an environment where their employees right now are have a better work life balance or. Able to to stay healthy it costs employers less on insurance as well. In in terms of expenses from please that have health issues if they're able to keep their their overall workplace healthy, so in this environment, some of these things might sound menial, but they really are important to a lot of employees in this environment. And so in order to keep that, it's very important for employers to think outside the box, and sometimes they can be wasted aren't that expensive to to have a sports team for your for your -ployees or to offer a walking running club, or, you know, have a professional come in to do to do some health assessments or something like that it costs a lot less than than to dilute the employee, and then spent time trying to replace in retrain that employees. So it's Robert Half dot com is a is a great place for people to go, Dan. She joining us today. Hey, Dan, thanks for your time. And it's good insights on some pretty important to a lot of people. So thanks for spending some time with us this more, Robert thank you very much for having me. Really? Appreciate it in. And we found that forty six percent of local employees are are looking for things like fitness facilities and programs and health and wellness offered by local employers here Nashville, which is is greater than the national average pretty significantly as well when you're talking about some of these things I ve lived here in the mid state for almost four years now, but I spent a lot of time in the on the west coast and in the bay area. And so the things you're mentioning I hear are that that I guess maybe. A lot of high tech companies were the first to really make a conscious effort not only making these opportunities available to employees, but really making them a highlight in a in a prominent feature to employment in these particular companies one is this what we're talking about predominantly as far as the companies that were were mentioning, and is it is it is it does go beyond. Absolutely. It is. But it does go beyond just technology. Nashville got one of the lowest employment unemployment numbers in the country. So because of that it's giving employees oportunities to to find things other than just salary that are important to them. So as as the market titans and NS as tight as it's ever been here locally, their employees are looking for other things that are more valuable such as work life balance and health and wellness facilities a hand or providing discounts or free gym memberships. In those types of things when you're looking at some of the companies that have been I guess, maybe looking at whether they're adding these things or or supplementing some of these benefits that they already have. What's your sense of how the dynamic is shifting in Nashville? Are we talking about companies that are new to Nashville where we see, you know? That's our running joke in the mid state, right? The the unofficial bird here is the crane because of all the construction there's so many high rises and buildings that are coming in the newer opportunities that are provided by new companies coming to Tennessee. Or are we talking about existing companies that are maybe just trying to keep up actually think we're talking a little about a little bit of both. I think as so many new employers are coming into the city employers are realizing that to keep your top talent right now, you have to have you have to come up with creative ways to to keep them engaged in happy and thriving in the workplace and in health. And wellness has become that much more of a staple in this environment. So if you're a lot of times these employers, and it can be your new companies, and you're well established companies as well. A lotta times the reason they promote these opportunities as they may not I mean for one it costs them significantly less than healthcare expense. If your employees are healthy when we're talking about some of these benefits and some of these perks, obviously, the fact is that for some industries and some companies these are still worlds away from a reality for for for a lot of workers. But understanding that the probably more and more companies are going to have to provide some of these these different opportunities and features and benefits. What are maybe the hot items that you suspect people are looking for most well from an employer perspective some of what's being offered in an employee. His potential employees as well are discounted gym memberships or I played golf earlier or last week, and I played golf, and I want one of my friends that I was out playing golf with. He's rewarded substantially from his healthcare provider from an from his employer for for keeping an elevated heart rate for for tracking his steps those types of things. So those are some of the things that are provided fitness discount on gym. Memberships is one area that's done. Sometimes it's it's doing a company sports team or a company jogging club or walking club. Those types of things that sometimes they don't cost a lot the employer a lot of money to to to get those things started within a workplace, and it really helps overall productivity from employees as well. If you're just joining us Dan show from Robert Half nationals joining us as we discussed some of the dynamics that are going on in. Modern day twenty nineteen job searches. And and I guess for that for that matter job retention is a lot of what we're discussing. I think it's still safe to say, and you're free to correct me or expound on. This is the fact that a lot of some of what we've just discussed with some of the these these benefits that go with these competitive lease audit after jobs there. We're still talking predominantly white collar jobs. We're not talking about a lot of a lot of blue collar opportunities, and maybe even service industry type positions that that that's still a fair assessment. Yeah. These are mostly office related jobs at on how referring to from from our study. What are remember when I was in the bay area? And and a lot of this was becoming like, hey, wow. Yes. It gets to do this kind of stuff the ones that were at that point. They were new where opportunities like you. Get your laundry done onsite. I had to bring it. And they would they'd bring back to you. By the end of the day kind of thing. The the transportation where you can get on the bus that would take you anywhere from within like a our ninety minute radius away that it would come pick you up. Those were the ones that were were knew what are some of? Maybe the things that people aren't thinking of that that are I guess maybe the things that are the jewel benefits these days. Well, those are certainly still things that are offered as well. And if you go outside of the healthcare, flexible, flexible scheduling is now kind of important as Nashville continues to grow, and and the traffic is getting worse than it was it's nothing like some of the other major cities, but it's continuing to get worse. And and more and more people are moving here. So so flexible scheduling parking downtown a few years ago, it was pretty easy. And now it's become a pretty expensive to employees es and four employers to handle in terms of assistance with their employees. So. Oftentimes there there's there's some partnerships with the downtown with national national downtown partnership where they provide free parking at titan stadium and shuttles or so part, but parking reimbursement for for parking can be valuable in the downtown area and other areas that's not as as sizeable but back to the healthcare side. A lot of all employers are offering desks now that are more likely advantageous such as sitting standing even some we've heard are offering like walking treadmill type of desks that people can work out as well. As we wrap this up ten maybe put a button on this. Because the the fact is that while companies in general their their people to be happy. There's clearly a financial dynamic to this financial benefit to all of this. Not just ahead. So cool that serving lasagna on Tuesdays. That's that's not what they're getting that. There are financial benefits for companies that provide all these things that might sound like. They're they're they're you'll financial luxuries talk. Just generally about you know, how that how those numbers are are going as far as, you know, why companies want to continue to do these kinds of things then for our listeners that are interested in finding out more about what your team found out in this study, where can they go online to learn more about some of the things that you've discovered you're absolutely. So in in this environment where Nashville's unemployment rate, I believe in the one that just came out in January set for December the unemployment rate in Nashville, I believe it was two point five or two point six percent. And so because of that employers are having to compete outside of just a straight salary in and to do that some of these things sound expensive, but replacing current employees where you have to go back in you have to try and find a talented days does not this not extensively out there right now and to reach. Strain and and to cover that area. When when you're short and your staff with other people that are then over over taxed as well. It's difficult. So it's a lot less expensive for employers to create a workplace or an environment where their employees right now are have a better work life balance or able to to stay healthy, it costs employers less on insurance as well in in terms of expenses from please that have health issues if they're able to keep their their overall workplace healthy, so in this environment, some of these things might sound menial, but they really are important to a lot of employees in this environment. And so in order to keep that, it's very important for employers to think outside the box, and sometimes they can be wasted aren't that expensive to to have a sports team for your for your employees or to offer a walking running club, or, you know, have a professional. Come in to do to do some health assessments or something like that it costs a lot less than than to lose the employee, and then spent time trying to replace in retrain that employees. So it's Robert Half dot com is a is a great place for people to go Dan show more joining us today. Hey, Dan, thanks for your time. And it's good insights on some symptom at this pretty important to a lot of people. So thanks for spending.

"Plays baba who at the moment. His name is is gonna escape me. Michael t Williamson, it's spelled mckelvie. But it's Michael t Williamson is Michael t Williamson in some of the other cast members. But I they were obviously pretty strict about security and now he's walking past. And I'm like, hey, hey, Denzel. I'm like, I I used to call Malcolm's games. Like, I did one or two games when he was at Penn. And I Don. The man puts his arm around me. Says you know, he's he's directing now. Right. And I was like, no, I didn't know that. And for the next ten minutes until Denzel waited to get into Howard Stern's private elevator. I spent ten ten minutes talking to Denzel Washington. And for those Saint Joe's fans he found out. I was the play by play announcer at Saint Jo's. And I first thing out of his mouth as it should be. When you think about the oh four-run Jamir went to say, Joe, didn't he? Yes, he did. We snapped the picture. And then that was that was it. That was my my several minutes with Denzel Washington, but Bill Murray would certainly be on my list, and hopefully before all is said and done, maybe that'll happen. His son is actually a division. One assistant basketball coach at Rhode Island and now was at Xavier. And I think he's still at savior. But I'm not sure actually maybe not because I thought he was on Chris max staff Xavier. You think Bill Murray would be approachable? Yes. And it's funny. He didn't use to be. He's an Luke Murray is still on. Chris Chris Mack staff. He's at Louisville now, which is not the best situation to be in at the moment. Coming off their kind of redoing things after the whole Rick Pitino fiasco, Rick Pitino by the way back into coaching this week. Couldn't they said he was going out of his mind, by the way, millions of dollars in the Bank. Rick Pitino going. I mean, I get it. Like, if you if you love doing something makes sense. You obviously miss it. If I couldn't do this anymore. If I couldn't call play by play anymore. I would I know I would miss it. I don't know. Making making. Having that much money in the Bank. Does that does that change it? They always say money doesn't necessarily buy happiness. And I think that's in some cases, very true because some of the some of the wealthiest people. I know are also some of the most miserable. Sometimes I don't understand how that ends up. But. Maybe that does doesn't fact hold water. But yeah, his son is is division. One assistant basketball coach film, always hoping that like Saint Joe's ends up in one of those pre season basketball tournaments were one of the teams is. But it hasn't happened. Just yet. Denison mount laurel ninety four WIP. Hi, Dennis first, simul the overnight show. All right. First time for everything. That's awesome. Yeah. I wanted to just make one correctly a caller a couple of calls ago said if the. Vikings win both games. The eagles are out. That's not true Dallas. No, no, no. That's possible too. Yeah. I mentioned that before that if there's there's like I said that is one of my favorite holiday pastimes, the Dallas December collapse. You know, it's like I enjoy it. Probably more than opening my presence at this point. And and is there a better script in Hollywood to follow? Nick foles wins this game on Sunday. You'll be putting up second statue. Now, it'll be the million dollar movie for for years to come. You. Remember the million dollar movie late night late night on channel six. I I don't think they do that anymore. But I think. Can you imagine that though like if they actually still did that thirty years down the line like Nick foles being the million dollar movie like midnight on six ABC? And this is such an unassuming guy. He just goes about saying, he's very religious. He spreads the ball around. He's lengthens to feel which makes the running game better. And Carson is obviously the best overall better quarterback of the future. Yeah. And the one of the future, but for today in for now, Nick foles is my quarterback until we lose see. And that's that's kind of that's more of the opinion that that I like to hear Dennis, you know, why why can't we like both like why why why can't I like both apples and oranges or peanut butter and jelly or whatever. It happens to be. I can like both. But I'm gonna tell you one thing. I know Carson. There's also a very religious person. If Nick foles wins on Sunday, he's gonna say not again. Lord, lord. What are you doing to me? What is going on? You're just can't happen to be twice. Please got kicked out even though he would want dicta win in his mind. He's gotta be thinking not again, he really does. Yeah. And I think Denison, it's it's really hard. And appreciate the phone. Call. Welcome welcome. Your your first time to the overnight. That's awesome. I think it's really hard. If you're in that type of position, and you know, I I think he'll sail the right things, and he had do everything under the sun to convince you that that he is happy for him as happy for him as he could be. Yeah, they're they're they're very close. They're very good friends. But at some point or another if if it were to happen, again, how could you look at a scenario like this. If you're Carson Wentz say, man. You're not gonna come out and say, whoa is me. But behind closed doors like how could you not look at it and think? Hey, big guy or big lady, you know, whoever you think is up there. What whatever you happen to believe. What about me? Didn't I do everything I was supposed to rehab my knee? I came back. I got back in in order to be the starting quarterback in order to be the franchise guy again. And then it happened. Again, it happened again. It's almost like you get into like, Jerry Seinfeld. No. It was a scratch, no pack. Like, oh, Lord. What are you doing to me? Nick, again, it's always this Nick foles guy. Eight eight eight seven to nine ninety four ninety four pound ninety four ninety four your AT and T and variety wireless cell phone, or maybe not maybe Carson Wentz just has enough humility. Where he could be one hundred percent completely happy for Nick foles. I would like to believe that that exists in the year two thousand eighteen. I don't know. But you never know Jeff in Newark ninety four WIP. Hi, jeff. Hey, I I'm with you there on the I don't think once has really concerned about, you know, next thing successful. I think he's supportive bind them same brush. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Absolutely. I think though, Jeff every one of us. I think it terms of friends and close friends has it has to be supportive, but at the end of the day like if that were to happen. You know, what a second straight year. Wouldn't it be tough voted to look at that as say man, I'm happy? But but can I be completely happy? I I guess you could I guess that's why I'm calling but just to touch on something you you hinted on orange another caller or earlier in your show. Yeah. I'm with you on the Christmas story. I I don't get it. I never liked that movie. I can't stand it. I hate that. It's still on. I get it. But it's a Christmas movie and the people holiday spirit kind of thing. But I can't stand the movie. What's funny is that maybe ten years ago for a friend? I bought you the like lamb, and you can have it delivered in the crate. Oh, that's funny. It's like the crate delivery is like two hundred dollars for the shipping. Fragile and it costs it costs more than the product itself. She ordered her like weird gift. She has this thing against I don't know the politically correct term for little people. But she thought that we had a little person like, yeah. So what what a great early Christmas gift for for media. Right. The Nick foles Carson Wentz things. Talk about it. How do you think this would have been different if if that game lost? Well. We'd be would have been you know, what what are they gonna do? You know? What are they gonna do going forward that? That's that's that's yeah. That's what the narrative would have been. And you know, what honestly it still might be like that like who's who's coming back who's going in now. How many of these guys are sticking around? That's still very much a possibility. I mean that that could still very much be the conversation. But like I said earlier at at the end of the day, Jeff and appreciate the phone. Call. Oh, you want at this point? And this time of year is is to be able to play some sort of meaningful football, especially with the with the I don't want to call it a disaster. But it hasn't been a great year. It just hasn't especially with with the way that they've lost some of these games with the way that they went down to Tennessee and essentially took over took over the titan stadium. What was a virtual home game in Nashville and they went down and they blew the game late. Carolina at home. Coughed up seventeen. In the fourth quarter. More.
