"Nightly news. with lester holt. Good evening everyone night. After night on this broadcast during the worst days of the pandemic we took you inside. Crowded ers retold. The stories of people dying alone isolated from family ventilators breathing for them. We were a nation largely in lockdown. And we were counting the days until science. Develop a lifesaving vaccine tonight. We are a nation rich in vaccines but low on trust and with so many still shunning cova. Vaccinations or ineligible for them. The head of the cdc's has we are potentially facing a pandemic of unvaccinated. Some of it appears to be driven by gross misinformation which we'll take a closer look at it in a moment but first the building wave of new cases and the risk for the unvaccinated as more cove hotspots emerged this summer. Miguel almaguer starts off our coverage. Tonight you misery in the metrics as the numbers trend in the wrong direction fueled by the highly contagious delta variant and unvaccinated americans. New infections are spiking seventy percent hospitalizations climbing thirty six percent as desks rise. Twenty six percent. This is becoming a handle of the unvaccinated. We are seeing outbreaks of cases in parts of the country that have low vaccination coverage because unvaccinated people are at risk with nearly a third of the nation still not vaccinated and coded cases rising almost every pocket of the country. The cdc says last week four states accounted for more than forty percent of new infections. One in five coming from florida in nevada the feds are deploying a team of one hundred to desperately boost inoculations and after l. a. county required masks inside public spaces again for all ten million residents other regions are now also recommending the vaccinated us face coverings indoors. Ten for like twenty steps backwards authorities in los angeles are trying to prevent what's happening in springfield missouri where doctors and nurses or expanding the icu. But losing more young lives. We will do our best to try to get you home. But there's no guarantee that you're going to leave. And i think that is something that every unvaccinated person needs to think about amid protests over vaccine mandates a handful of states with high case rates are reporting a higher rate of newly vaccinated. But for now. It's not enough to slow a dangerous and deadly rise a threat looming larger every day. A a lot of folks have been talking about these breakthrough infections which are rare but happen. What we know well last year. The cdc stopped tracking breakthrough infections unless they resulted in hospitalization. Which is rare but nbc. News is heard back from twenty seven states so far. And we've tallied sixty six thousand breakthrough cases. That's just a small fraction of the vaccinated. Lester right miguel. Thank you president biden weighing in today about vaccine misinformation on platforms like facebook saying they're killing people and provoking strong denial from facebook. Gabe gutierrez has more on the information. Disconnect in tipton county tennessee just north of memphis vaccine skepticism runs deep dish lack of research. It's it was too fast to get it out there. About twenty five percent of people in this county are fully vaccinated. Meanwhile the state of tennessee has seen a three hundred ten percent jump in new cova cases over the last two weeks here earned around the country. The rise is fueled by people choosing not to get vaccinated. You just don't trust. Donald trump told me. Take that thing. I wouldn't take most of the states with the lowest vaccination rates are in the south unfortunately in our part of the country. We've not had as good a success with getting vaccinated as we'd like to. According to the census bureau the top reasons people were hesitant concerned about side effects. They don't trust the government or they want to wait and see if it's safe the. Us surgeon general. Who lost ten family members. Dacoven is now issuing his first health advisory not on drugs or smoking but vaccine misinformation. The voices of doctors nurses scientists in public health. Experts are too often being drowned out all sirens of misinformation a recent study finds two-thirds of unvaccinated adults believe major myths about vaccine such as they cause infertility or change your dna simply not true less drastic. The head of the cdc about this. We have seen a lot of false information out there. How harmful hasn't been to your efforts. Certainly it has an how to we know that that misinformation actually spreads more readily than the information that we're trying to get out there from conservative news outlets if the vaccine is so great. Wouldn't it sell itself. There'd be no reason to force people to take it but people are being forced to take it to social media. What's your methods the platforms like facebook. The people.

"Is forty eight degrees in the American standard. Cooling weather center. The time is seven sixteen. A little more on. What's going on in Tipton there? This is a has met situation, Barra for them. Bring you back in here. I wanna make sure I I understand the situation. I mean, this isn't gonna fact most people driving in today. But as a situation, it's certainly one that requires our attention. This is a a an overturned. Call it a trailer crash thirty one near state route twenty eight and what is leaking is hundred clerk asset. That's what's leaking right now all over the area. So there have been some levels of, of a vacuum Asian because of this, and while again, I mean, a little bit of traffic issue, of course, but. The, the bigger story here is that you gotta vacuum. And I don't yet know exactly how big Matt evacuations are going to get right? Right now, as I understand it there. Vacuity people from state road, twenty eight to division road, which is a small county road there in Tipton county, but it's about a mile distance of K, and according to Kevin Rodman wish TV and he's on seeing they're doing a great job. This cloud of hydrochloric acid can be seen from mile away. So this is this is a pretty serious situation. There is definitely want to be avoided if you happen to be going to Kokomo this morning as I understand this closure is going to extend from state route twenty eight up to Howard county in Kokomo. So this is a pretty big deal here in. And again, I just want everybody to avoid this area, just state road twenty eight both directions. Thirty one closed right now. Yes. Avoiding it is the right thing to do. We're going to keep our eyes on this throughout the morning, and see how this develops maybe get with Kevin Rodman, and get some updates from him map bear in the WBZ traffic center. Thank you me. Tony cats. Ninety three WIBC. Good morning, everybody. The popcorn. The Twitter's good for. Somebody posted audio from Johnny Carson. Back in nineteen eighty eight. Now to understand this. You have to understand that Joe Biden has a history of plagiarism. He had plagiarism going back to nineteen eighty eight when he was still running for president. He was the Senator from Delaware. And most recently when he put out his climate plan is ten dollar climate plan. He's cribbed lines took lines in that speech from something called the blue green alliance and the carbon capture coalition. I mean, not just an idea. Actual lines full on points. No, nineteen Eighty-eight the plagiarism kept him from really running for president. Because he took. Whole concepts and phraseology. And this was from a leader, a political leader in the UK by the name of Neil Kinnock K. I N K I think pronounce his name properly. So this is why it's back in the news, this conversation of plagiarism and somebody posted on Twitter. This from Johnny Carson back in eighty eight on a political candidates. Senator Joseph Biden, have using the problem. He's been having around and made a speech and apparently,.

"How you folks doing this morning? It's good to have you on board here since your text, by the way, force Goodman, more brother. You may want to take a look at that. I don't know. I'm right here on the other side of the board from you. And you send me a tax you like my wife who will text me across living room. Well, I was in the middle of doing something in just wanted to make sure that I sent that over to you got the message for forgot. Gotcha. Okay. Or you think about those apples heaven an apple right now. Yeah. When you think about the text non exciting. But okay, what a second. None. No, no, no, not the one about an upcoming. It's not about the show. Did you not see the picture? I just read the tax, and I guess you don't read it on my second. If hanging on his people over the weekend, screw everything up in a studio. If it says it like a look at the Texas as if you need me today, I will probably be with my insurance guy. Right. That's what it says. Do not see the picture. Well, no, I didn't open it. I'm just looking at it on my screen. Okay. Yeah. Going open it right now. It's okay. It's like it's like Christmas. He's opening on live radio. We think about those apples. Holy cows at your backyard. Yes. That is my backyard. It's a lot of water. The wolf river apparently overflowed the geniuses in carterville in their design. Looks like have diverted water runs into part of our neighborhoods backyards. Yeah. And the pressure against the pool looks like 'cause my above ground pool to collapse and the rush of water. The the water was already almost up halfway up my pool. Anyway. In the backyard caused it to collapse and the burst of water took out about a fourth of one side of my fence. Oh my goodness. So I went over to my neighbor yesterday knocked on the door and said, hey, did you see last night? I didn't hear it. But you see last night looks like you get too much fence in your backyard now because their backyards completely flooded, and they have a an in ground pool screwed. Oh, goodness. Yeah. Get there baby cleans up. We'll be talking to my boy Mark Barnes this morning. Get my see if I can get my insurance to get in your house, though. Oh, no. No. No. No, no did did not. In fact, it's receding. We you know, we had to walk the dogs yesterday. Because there was enough water back there where they couldn't access good on the steps to go, right? Their business. Get little run in or something. So, but yeah. Yeah. My pool it in fact, I did not see it. I my wife did. And she woke me up and said, hey, I know you're not a big fan of the pool. Will you may finally get your wish? Oh, goodness. What do you mean? Well about four th of its gone what? Wow. But nobody was hurt with the neighbors. Everything was done. We had a little bit of a laugh about it. Just because I mean, what else are you going to do at that point? Right. Well, in that property, can I mean, it's a headache. Don't get me wrong. But it can be replaced. At least at least it wasn't in the house and ruin things or you know, affect anybody. You know, run you out of your house or something because I've seen I saw a lot of high waters and a lot of flooding. Saturday Saturday evening. We were we were up in Tipton county, and you just be riding along on the road. And all of a sudden it was good to have. It was good to have a car in front of you to kind of see what was coming up because there were some low lying areas where I mean water was pretty high where I mean, I didn't I didn't. I wasn't nervous going through it with my pickup. But like if we'd have been in my wife's Mustang. There have been no way out of gone through some of that water just way too too low. So that night by the time it got dark on our way back home to Bartlett. I know it was a little longer. I just took fifty one south and hit three eighty five and cut over to to to get home because I just riding home. Maybe not familiar with the road at night with this area tends to have some low lying water. You didn't wanna hit it going sixty miles an hour that can be fun. It gave me a new appreciation to check the hourly. Flood. Yeah. The the the the level stages. I got up this morning and went out onto my deck. And now it's too where at least on one side, my dogs can go out and do their business. But once you got to get the fence fixed pretty quickly because if I don't think they can get into the neighbor's yard in the next couple of days deck wasn't hurt or taken out in that on. No shares face of it. I know it's hard through the glare over there. I think Cher. He's taken aback by seeing there. It's crazy but yesterday middle money yesterday at two o'clock three thirty had some guided fishing expeditions got people on the way out in the backyard. And and we got that done. But for you look right over here. That's where the catfish bed. You know? It was so deep that the news stations could not have done a live shot out there because it was legitimately high water right out there in the waiters and told everybody I'm out here in my waiters, you know, risking life and limp, actually, it was pretty high. They could have stood in your front yard sit in the backyard of this home is high water. He exactly, but the my shed back there where keeping along more. So I'd move my lawnmower out. A few days prior just play it safe, which was good. A sandbagged about two feet high in there. So hopefully, not too swamped in there. But for those you the dealt with the rain looks like we got a break for a few day bready.

"The week. And I I saw Ron Ron shoulders from action news five tweeted that last night that we could see that. And you think this did this not a lot of water, but it's a lot of water over the next few days. And I guess the thing that concerns me Tim is that remember last week? I told you about my trip I made to Tipton county, and how fields were you know, that are normally, you know, sit there for agriculture looked more like, you know, sort of lake. Yeah. The ground is still very very saturated and rivers are still up from what happened last week. So I mean, I think there is I mean with six inches being predicted. I mean that that puts you in the danger of flooding. Right. Doesn't it? You've one would think so one would think so. It is it in flood prone areas. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the the the next several days, you're going to be telltale. And a lot of folks are gonna be keeping an eye on the Mississippi River stage, but also the wolf river stage all the way from north Memphis all the way out to to Carville to rossville piper ten and beyond as some of those those river stage gauges are going to be well, let's just say they're going to be. Yeah. Water. It's gonna it's gotta go somewhere. Right. Well, I told you what I saw last week over in the Brunswick area with the LUSA Hatschi river. And I mean, it was it was as they say in the south. He was also built up and. And now it receded pretty quick. But you know, you're right. I mean that waters gotta go somewhere when it can't, you know, make it to the mouth of the river exit. So yeah. Joining those types of areas, flood prone areas, I think could see some rising water out of all this. And because like I said the ground is. I mean is soaked. Yeah. Yep. It say some areas just already like a swamp. So you get this. So just just know folks over the next several days, it is going to be a huge huge huge story for sure. Also, a big story is how much you're going to be paying for utilities much. We'll we'll find out more perhaps today. It's been the canned been kicked down the road quite a bit. You remember they had trouble. Filling three seats on the city council late last year through the canned got kicked in. Now. We got some new seats so new people in those seats, and perhaps today we start to find out more about a potential rate hike on melody w also we'll find out I guess more about Tom Lee park. You had mentioned briefly on your rub podcast that you had someone that was pro who was George Abbott who changed with the river park Commissioner what I can't remember the exact title that has come in in proposed this and we've even got on our Facebook page, you know, the proposed design and layout of the park is beautiful. It's gorgeous. Yeah. I mean, they wanna put in basketball courts and trees and that kind of stuff. I guess the here's here's the two concerns. Number one. Construction is in this private public dollars in my understanding is going to pay for this. So construction supposed to start in June and go on for eighteen months. That means the music fast next year and the barbecue and the nine one weekend. All that stuff would have to be moved. Okay. It's been look barbecue festival before they spent twenty eleven at Tom Lee park. I know I was there. I cooked that year with Jimmy, and it was to me it was fine. But it did not offer the same views, and what a lot of people are looking for by being down on the river. There's just something about being there. It makes it feel like a lazy day, even though you're working your tail true. But but the other part of it is is the long term goal. The not the goal the long term effect on that month of event, which means a lot a lot a lot of money for downtown.

I don't know how they stood the rain last night because it was pouring at my house about eight thirty or nine o'clock. I mean, heavy rain rocket here it inside will yesterday afternoon about oh, I don't know four o'clock. I was in Tipton county near a Tokyo. And it's like, you know, people who had property that didn't by ponds and lakes on their property had them yesterday at no charge had no charge. I saw kids in this in this is I used to do this. But I'm ready for this mess to get on out of here. I know it's going to get cooler, but we need some sunshine, and we need to dry some things up. Tomorrow's going to actually be a pretty decent day. At least a couple of days, we kind of a tease of that just a little bit of a tease. But man, I feel you outta in southeast Shelby county. It was you gotta know your streets in advance. That's exactly right, Gloria, and I heard that you made it down to realfoot foot last weekend with the grandson and y'all actually did see some eagles. Yes. We saw twenty eagles and ten pelicans wild. Yes. Is a lot of fun. And I guess the weather. Can't remember last Saturday was beautiful. Good, wait. I mean, I dressed for winter John, and you didn't need a jacket. You didn't need anything heavy boots nothing that was having Sam because you know, this time of year as we all know, the weather can get pretty bad pretty quick. So that's really good miss Gloria. The eagles were beautiful. I put I put out of them on Facebook. Yeah. I was telling on your this morning. I saw great. They're great. I can tell you having an awesome time. It made me smile. Yeah. And that that eagle, oh, it was so beautiful that I held on my hand. And I told them you know, that they had to put a hand underneath me. Because since I fell and broke my arm. I was afraid octagon dropping. No gotcha. Gotcha. You need a little extra support to hold that thing. They saw my arm, you know, kind of started to shape because because I have no control when it's going to happen. First of all in honor groundhog day on a side that I hope we have six more years of an amazing real estate market, man. But the real estate tip of the week. I've been doing a lot of this. And after you were telling one of your stories. The real estate tip of the week today. Is you people that are out there renting, go to your landlord, go to your property manager and say, hey, let me see if I can buy this house that I'm already in. And let me be the owner of my property. Yes. And build up wealth and stuff like that. You might be amazed. What may say you said, hey, that sounds like a good idea wouldn't mind selling it to you? And then you wouldn't have to move or anything. So that's our real estate of the week. That's an excellent idea, Tom, that's excellent idea. And if you're out there, you know, just want to say real quick there is a if you're trying to get a mortgage like through Fannie Mae or Freddie, MAC FHA via USDA any of these mortgages, they will not let you pick your own appraiser. We have to go through a third party agency to order an appraisal. But if you were paying cash re property, you're you're about to do an estate sale or your unfortunately going through a divorce. You're having to figure out what the value is on the house. I would strongly I would strongly recommend call and Tom king iming. "Welcome back to in the garden fading. Kenneth on NewsRadio six hundred ninety two point one. We're on our second hour, and we have a guest with us Wesley hopper. Do you have a Whistler west west, hopper and street Arborist? I would say I always feel like you're you could almost call you a tree whisper. I just thought of that you could. I mean, I I know I think this might be the first time we've actually talked to each other. But I know about you in the community all the time, and you teach lots of things and and all of that. So I was like man we have to have somebody with a big time knowledge on these. I love trees, but there's so many issues that people don't know what to do. There's a lot of issues that people really don't know hydra approach. I've already heard this morning. From west. I think you have to have a couple more times on the show. I take a realistic approach. It's not like a tree a tree. Like tree is like is there a real to me? I mean, there's a part of my life. Live my life in the trees, I want to understand them. And then I'll come to learn the then I'll never completely understand them. But as much as I can about them. Know get a little passion behind what you're doing. You know, and that and I think that's what makes you more educated person is when you have a passion, and you believe in in the trees needing to do more than what everybody else they also want to educate other people too. The educating people out to care for the trees is most important it can I elaborate on that form. Yeah. Yeah. That'd be great at the Memphis botanic garden. We offer a class called the urban forestry adviser class. And while I used to teach the surf RBIs, steady course. And that was to help other RBIs becomes certified in there in the field of abortion culture. And then I kind of turned the tables. That's why don't I start educating the consumers to ones that. Right. The chase and pays my bills teach them. Why don't we teach them how to approach a professional tree company? How how did it? Let me help me understand how to take care of their own trees. And so that's that's what we do now. And and we kind of built up our army urban foresters through this class had lots of successful students come to and we we have built such a great pro. Graham and a great atmosphere and a great environment for people to understand and love trees and really understand. Memphis trees. So you're teaching in your classes and all that or just giving us a lot of educated Arborist out in the field. It's a good thing about being in Memphis. I love Memphis. You just look at the trees. There is Memphis is awesome. Yeah. Yeah. So well, you know, what let's get miss glorious news. And then we'll talk some more about some trees and miss Gloria good morning. You're in the garden. Gloria. Invader and west real good. But I've got garden talks for yet. Okay. Okay. Townie museum. There have been Dr Chris Cooper talk on nine things to consider. I spring. Tipton county yet you said Tipton county at the museum. Yeah. The county museum and what time seven fifty one Bert Johnson. Whoa. Avenue. Okay. Burt chapter telephone number. If if they can't find it it's nine oh one. Four seven six. Oh too far too. And what time is that? Start miss Gloria. That is going to be from ten to eleven thirty. Okay. Okay. Got it and then at the Bartlett library. They're gonna have master gardener. Jim, bob. Yeah. Soils and Tom posting at chin. Thirty to three thirty on stage. Wo two thirty to three thirty the Bartlett library. And that's today. Also, right, right. That's the day also. Yeah. And on Tuesday, February fifth you're gonna have the Hort society, and they will have Dr Alan when. Hm thirty years of ornamental plant pathology debt, but fan at seven. Okay. If no one has ever heard of these people. Dr Chris Cooper is a wealth of information is a awesome, man, and a great friend. And if you get the opportunity to go listen to him, he is so much fun. Jim bogus is also a just a genuine RBIs, certified Arborist, actually and Alan Wyndham is a lotta fun as well. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. These are really good people to go. Listen to you. And so I would support every one of them. All the listeners out there to take advantage of the opportunity to go. See these guys. Yeah, we're getting people with passion that as well. All right. Miss Gloria anything else going on bed? Well, that's it. But I have a whole lot of garden talks for you next week in real quick before you hang up you in jank or on the way to is it real foot. Yes, we're going to real. But see the eagles. I got you. Enjoy. I'll tell you all about it next week. Glorious Gloria, okay? Wait, wait. Yeah. Y'all be saying I have a great week. Thank you. Yeah. All the way to real foot to see the eagles. They took the grandson up there last year. They actually sell some eagles. He was so excited. He was to go back with them, which he is this morning. So that's a win situation. Right. So Mr Paul, Mr.. We did lissi tree wizard. Misstep must be you. Wesley who good morning, Mr Paul? Good morning. Miss Veda and Calapan the tree wizard. The tree lizard. I did not. Good new stage name for you and your band, Mr Paul, Detroit lizards. Well, we're going to stay the cripple is fine. Oh, yeah. That's right. Cricket lizard, lizards. Yeah. We're good morning to you, Mr Paul, and we're lucky enough to have Mr. west with this here this morning. A wealth of information about trees. I mean, this is. Other than this. Yeah. Now, he's I've known west for a long time. And he's really say what I like about what he's come. Total of three. Plato terminally artists new a lot of stuff. West hopper has in the thing that impression it's always impressed me about him. Is he has he said the word all adult patients. The what he does. He's done this all his life. And I don't I don't leave your that. Because you still look like a kid. Right. Yeah. Just like a hippy. There. We go. Oh, that's that's what we are. But so you. He he's done this. You don't get this out of court. He knows you don't get out or book. Yeah. Oh, you do. It's called experience. Yeah. And it takes a almost a lifetime to accumulate all that. He's done a great job of it. And he has done a really good job at its botanic gardens getting all of those different programs started, not outlet education. Thank you Lord. That's awesome. See me like that before Mr. not Ann Arbor. No matter what field area. And there's there's say Tennessee, you're that way garden centers. Got all your. Thank you, Mr Paul. Y'all y'all get y'all get kudos. Let's see west is a lot of times when I met him. Nobody knows who I'm talking about. Each one of those hidden jewels. Because I mean, he's very visible in the coastal community. But it's again like us the black hole of horn. Yes. Here's the thing. I was one reason why west on here is well because some I guess what I was calling mom and pop businesses or just people that do it for passion. And all we're never really out there because you see all the big companies in the marketing and all that. But then you know, there's other folks that would like people that enjoy this and have passion and want to be educated on it. That was here before computers say, yeah. Here before computers yet. I don't think admit to this t- yet. But we I was in Florida what two weeks ago, and I wasn't able to compete in the in the legend's tree karma competition because of not my thumb out of socket karma treating but I was able to work with the kids climb. We had all these kids climbing trees, we put them in a rope into Seattle and the five year olds were the best. They had no exact no fear started there, they're climbing career early. And the oldest person that we had put up into the trees eighty three years old lost some and that was on her bucket list was to climb a tree and we put her up in the tree eighty years old. So. There's there's an art to I've got a friend that lives in Ryan Jim Mississippi's what he's one of the guys in the crib blizzard band. But he he has kind of it's not a profession, but he's the truth. Glamour? He he knows the art of how to without any equipment. I mean, he describes it would arms. Monkey? He loves climbing trees and see you kind of take the tweet business, quote, unquote, that metaphysical level, which becomes spiritual right, which it all is all of its nature, and we're part of it. And we, and it's a lack you say while ago, we got that pre warning. Well, the tree was there. I, you know, we need to get out of the way as a tree. Yeah. Yeah. The tree knows what it wants to. Do. We don't we've gotta learn to listen. And like you said later, listen to them. I know when when Wes was telling me, you know, how he the ways that he just gets in touch with trees and exactly and it's just something about that. Goes back to the passion. You know? Instead of just a Ghana chainsaw in a truck. Guys, do it. You know, there's every profession. Got the guys that are in the pickup truck, not say anything. But yeah, you gotta have a passion you in more than that. You've got to have the education to know what you're doing mystery. I mean, these are big deals that you have to work with big trees it make big issues if they're not taking care of properly. Yeah. I don't really I don't wanna knock the guys in the chase on the picket. I know they they may have that same passion to we just won't end to seek out the education opportunities that are offered out there are, and we can we I would just so much love that had those guys had the same passion. And they would probably get if they come listen to you talk and try to start all they had to call me. Yeah. What Mr. politically changed the name of the band, though, we truly we changed it to the tree lizard. So would you even think about getting back on stage?.

It's primaries in state Senate force Goodman, and it's a doozy. Replacing Mark Norris's. No easy task. Right. Right. You're exactly right. If you vote in the Republican primary, and you live in that district that you'll have an opportunity to vote for Paul rose out of Tipton county. Paul thanks for being here this morning. What are the main issues your fighting foreign standing for and trying to become that next state Senator replacing Mark good morning? I let me thank you for giving me the opportunity and replacing Mark Norris. And certainly there's no candidate. Four months in the district, which I've lived in certainly workforce development control. In west Tennessee, public safety is extremely important jobs available. Not only that we were creating jobs, but we're making a workforce creating workforce. Android. And then the the wounded challenging affordable healthcare. You'll go to work or someone will go to work after the general election in March with the Republicans in the legislature and a new Republican governor and Bill Lee who has some pretty big goals that he wants to accomplish now that he's moved to the governor's mansion in Tennessee. Well, exactly, right. And I think one of the advantages that I have never been in politics. We've worked across the state and beyond with with. In our construction business and the companies involved in a note. Many of the legislature. We're certainly Deborah moody here in our. Ma. Several senators there and Shelby county and west Tennessee, middle Tennessee and head honored to meet governor Lee and just look forward to taking the lead so much to me. Those Christian conservative values that take those two. To accomplish those. Goal. Governor Lee has set for his administration. Are there any really big differences between the four candidates that are running for this? Because look I did I know the makeup of the district. I live in that district as a matter of fact, I know what the voters there feel it seems like there's a common theme from those are running with little different. I mean like you said, you don't have a political background. So you would be taking that others say, look, I have a big political background. I can take that there other than that big differences. Well, let me just say though, the candidates I appreciate this race has been run. It's been clean. The folks that are running the biggest differences, you'll have not been in politics. But I've been in vault in that process for all of my life, or at least for all my voting life and being a business owner one it's created job as had to provide to provide health care for approximately one hundred fifty employees. I think gotta a leg up on the other up in in the trenches. Like that happen, not bring a perspective. And I feel like someone that has been a business owner does not have now early on in this when early voting was going on. And I don't know how the numbers ended up finishing. But I know there was a lot of talk about. Wow, look at all the early voters in Tipton county getting out there. And we assume they were voting for you. We don't know. But what did you do early in this campaign to really spur interest in to where a lot of people? I know didn't even know there was an election going onto earlier this week. Well, we certainly ran into that here in Tipton county and Shelby county. We've got friends throughout all the district and they worked very hard to get the message out. What did we do? You know, we've we're we've been in this community in this district all of my life. We've made many many friends through our church charitable organizations. We've been involved in a business relationships and my family just well known. And I think the fact that people news, and then you know, what we stood for they got out and work hard. It wasn't me. It was a team got out and promoted this just been amazing how hard they work and at the end of the day today. Whatever they aren't I'm going to lay my head down. No one that in my team, everything we could to make folks aware there isn't election, and we want you to vote for Paul rose. Abe, paul. Force had mentioned early voting turnout was high in Tipton county. Do you have anything to say, we got about thirty seconds? Do you have anything to say to the voters may be in Shelby county that are afraid that your work will stop at the county line? Well, that would just be untrue. I have worked through the district in my business and again in the charitable organizations. I've been involved in churches down there Air, France. I want to research represent the entire district and look forward to opportunity to prove that and hopefully about nine o'clock tonight. I'll get a call from you with congratulations. Well, thank you very much, Paul rose. Good luck. Today. Polls are now open and the open till seven o'clock today, and we'll keep an eye out. And if you're if you win this thing by all means would love to have you back on because I know that's one that would be one sprint down and one more sprint to go. Absolutely. Thank.

"Memphis morning news. Hello. It is seven sixteen. Thirty nine degrees. Wind chill of thirty. That chill is on some rain tomorrow, maybe mixed with a little bit of snow. Hey, Thursday is election day. We've got a primary coming up. It's going to be if you didn't early vote there, you pretty much go in and take about thirty seconds and vote and we have one of the candidates on now for state Senate. Now joining us on the program, we say Hello to Steve macmanus. Steve thanks for joining forest in me. How are you? Tim, good morning fine. Thank you. How are you doing well and just staying warm, and I know for you you've got a big day coming up on Thursday. And what you give us the whole elevator speech of why why you are in this race coming up on Thursday. Thanks. I have thirty seven years of experience in the international services business. And that that is always given me a unique perspective when I served in the legislature. I was in the house of representatives for ten years in two thousand six two thousand sixteen I chaired a number of committees such as the commerce committee, and I was chairman of insurance and banking and a lot of that came down to balancing the budget. And quite honestly when I first got into this race. I was kinda surprised I was the only person in this race with government. Experience like this because this is going to be very important on Thursday. This this particular, you know, primary because whoever ultimately wins this race you've got to go back to Nashville which is going to be in the middle of March. And folks, I I can assure you having spent ten years in the legislature. It's the busiest time of the legislature. You have very contentious bills that are now going through committees. And you have the budget process now, I serve and finance ways and means for years on very familiar with our states thirty billion dollar budget. The folks it's important to know what you're doing when you get up there in March because you've only got a month left until the end of session. And so it's just gonna be there's just so many things to consider including the appropriations Bill. You know, we're we're trying to get up there balanced budget and bring as much as we can as much benefit as much money as we can back. To back to our district here. So yeah, I mean, we've been knocking we've been knocking on five thousand doors. We've done radio TV digital Email. What you must some great folks here in town Becky west a media mogul Jackson, Dr Who been our day-to-day campaign manager, it's coming up fast. But we're sprinting to the finish you well in this is happening Thursday. And it's one of the reasons why I've I've I've heard concern from some of the other candidates Steve about turnout, especially here in Shelby county. And I realized maybe a lot of people don't know this is going on that Mark Norris did move on into that judgeship. So this seat is now open. How important is turn out to your campaign? If you wanna be victorious on Thursday. It's absolutely critical. And let me just explain that. And thanks for the question because in early voting, I think we only had about five thousand votes right of that of that five thousand half were in Tipton county. So we've got three three Shelby county. Republicans are working, you know, our base here as well. So what's going to happen is unless we get Shelby county voters to come in. And why is that so important because this district when it was first scrawny seventy five percent Shelby county. Twenty-five percent Tipton county. So testing county did a great job in getting the voters out. They have almost as many votes as we have through early voting. But folks in in in Shelby, just please listen if we wanna keep this seat, and we do we want to keep this in Shelby, which means Shelby county voters have got to turn out on Thursday. Otherwise, this could go to defend county. What did they do? What did they do to get voter turnout? Do you think so high? Well, they had there was two very convenient voting locations in Tipton county one being and Covington the other one being monitored. We on the other hand here and Shelby only had one place to vote and that was out of the district. It was in Cordova. So not many people knew where to go. So they're beginning to turn out now. But it's it's just critical. You know, we just got through a forum last night. And we're telling people folks come on. Now. I mean, this is seventy five percents Shelby county in this district. One of the candidates all roses from Tipton. And unless we show up, then you know, it could be a tip county situation here. But you know, I'm confident I know I know from being a vet and some of these races at more Republican based on show up until actual election day, but we're going to need at least twelve thousand people to show up on election day, and we've only had about five hundred on average during early voting. So. Yeah. If I could say one thing clearly here. It's please Shelby county voters get out and vote on Thursday. All right. Steve macmanus. Thank you so much for joining us on Memphis, more news. It's Thursday seven to seven looks like it's going to be dry weather. So I'm unless there's a previous engagement. There's really no ex- whether it's not going to be an excuse on Thursday. Exactly, thanks so much everybody. Thank you tomorrow. George Chisholm will be on the show. He's another Republican that's running because of the Republican primary where there's for people running democrat primary. It's sole-opposition. And then we're trying to get Paul rose on Thursday who you just heard Steve mentioned who is from Tipton county. So we'll give everybody a fair shake it. Yeah. That's what I was gonna say is is that we've made inactive Heidi on yesterday in an active effort to to get everybody on for for a chance to talk about that coming up where we've got Ben Ferguson at seven forty five. We've got some more local national international news as well. And a.
