Like this is the furthest i've ever gotten like. Lemme jump on this. Because i don't know where it goes. I closed office center about ten to twelve mile. Best writing samples. You'd like damn. That was quick by. That's that's that's impressive a. Lot of people dislike take like days at a time to get back of lebanon. This is the first. I gotten. So i wanna see how far can take this thing so she was like look. I can't promise you anything but you know out. Send it around and see. We can do fast for two weeks later. Spry ballot the week week before thanksgiving. I'm riding up to alexandria. Virginia with One of my best friends in his wife. Because we're going to a wedding for like a government hospital with i get a call from two to number miss colella game and she was like yo. What are you doing tonight at eight o'clock thankfully it was a day when so by eight you know i. I just had to make sure i was coherent by eight right and i was like. Wow what's up like somebody. Espn wanna talk to you about what they wanna talk to me for like. Well somebody register up and they'd like what they read. I'm like. I can't really say what i said to her On this podcast. But you can get one with allowed to not just to make a long answer somewhat shorter. This is the week before thanksgiving in two thousand. Fourteen jane Two thousand fifteen. I had a one way flight from richmond to la basically to start my career. Espn so all of those years. I've been working. John like the door open in less than two weeks like those just proved like to the right people. And you're gonna in all the work so that when opportunity comes you're ready for it. You don't have to movie. I've time to prep once shows up. You've gotta be prepping the whole time so that when it comes. You're ready for it. So you start with the undefeated right. That's the first gig branch out with around the horn and some other stuff and now you've added to your resume this thirty for thirty podcast With the undefeated the king of crenshaw diving into the connection between nba players and nipsy hustle. Who is a rapper. Entrepreneur philanthropist activist who was Murdered outside of his clothing store in l. a. in march two thousand nineteen. What inspired. this did you pitch this. Did someone pitch it to you. What made you think that this was something you wanted to To do well it was kind of a little bit of both in terms of it was pitched me and i pitched this so One of my best friends that i went to hampton with he. He's actually in the podcast. Isn't it brian robinson. He's from about to stop lights away. From where nips marathons though was so he put me on. Nfc music back in two thousand six two thousand seven like mid thousands and i will just a fan like ever since so fast forward to twenty eighteen. Nipsy he's a bigger star at this point. His album is out and he called me in. He put me in contact with this young lady named brittany bell. Who was nazis publicist atlantic. I think the water britney brittany has one of the best ears for music new artists. In what's gonna be big not them by ninety nine point nine percent of people. I've ever met a music instrument. She's phenomenal so we struck up a good working report. And we wanna try to devise a way to get nipsy some coverage on. Espn because he was a he was a big espn fan. And i was like well. I know nipsy is a big nba guy. Like i know his russell russell westbrook james harden but there seems to be something deeper than just famous rapper. Famous basketball players seems to be like a row story by friendship and you know blackmail brotherhood all that. So he came up with a loose pitch. She ran about nipsy. He really liked the idea. I'm not saying that we were going to get it done like a week later but you know at least the ball was heading in the right direction but in two thousand eighteen and we wanted to get it on video. Because i didn't want it to just be as much as i love the right. I had a bigger vision for this idea and between eighteen which is a busy year form. And it wasn't like. I was just sitting around switzerland Either so just one of those things in I really regretted it signs because it's like We'll we'll get it done. We'll get it done. We'll get it done and again that's the thing about time. No man we always. We have more of it so like when he was when he was murdered on march twenty nineteen course. I was destroyed. I was heartbroken by. But i knew i told myself is one thing. He always preached in his life. Was this concept of america. They're like you know you can't let one setback. Stop you from running. And i'm like well is tragic as this is. I can't let this idea you know you know. Collect dust on the show. And i pushed it to mombasa the tom kevin merida and this is a really good. I like you should take it to the folks at thirty to thirty to see if they like it and so maybe right before like the the shutdown happened last year like we really started these conversations about what it could look like. How many episodes so i started my pitching and is sent over like a complete draft. A script pitch was about twelve pages. Long like yeah. They have like this. They liked it. I don't want to like seven or eight like revisions of it. I'm like i've never had to do this many revisions on anything but it got to the point where they liked it. I mean care about the way. I learned that maybe bali third or four for vision. You know so and we started filling out the team and it was around this time last year. That the ball really really really got rolling.

"Your favorite word. As of right now pay as in paid off because have so many things that have to pay off. So whenever i do pay something i feel really good. I know that's more than one word but paid off all right. Paid from twelve hundred pain to appease pacifies satisfy or to the liking of in the old french. Pay to pay where pay up originally from the latin and I feel like you're doing that a lot. Newly married with a house gotta pay up. Just everybody gotta get paid. Good luck with that. Speaking a great words today the word of the week is bunghole. It's not what you think it is. It's a whole cask through which filled enclosed by a stopper from the fifteen seventy s for bung a large stopper for a cask. It's of uncertain origin. The word bung maybe for middle dutch. Maybe from french from german. And you combine it with whole to get bunghole. You may remember beavis and butthead. Talking about their bunghole but they are not actually the reason for the expansion of the words meaning. It started to be used to describe it amos by sixteen hundred so in a sentence. We encountered many bunghole on our recent trip to the bourbon trail in kentucky. Never once managing to avoid giggling or saying. I am current. julio. I need teepee for my bunghole. Because we're children i'm not. I'm not proud of it. Now let's get back to the interview so then you start you start making your way back to the places that you that you belong and that you want to be you start working uproxx and uproxx is where you ended up making your way into the space to meet the right people for espn right. You're like okay so uproxx was writing for this site. It was called is no longer around now but it was called the smoking section in all it was was just a place where it was was a motley crue of riders based around the country ran by my man john gotti a real name courts net net john gotti john gotti but gotti would y him with the right people here. I got it whether right people and i was always a fan of that site Always visited that site. When i was in college. It was kinda like my version of a rolling stone but it was like a very well curated blog and i was like man. Writing is really good. Hairs like the diverse amount of voices. And i just knew if i could get to uproxx or the smoking section because audio had my own a website that you know it it encountered some I was with the team working on a site called college radio music and needless to say there was a fall out in the team by. I won't get all the way ever happened. It was just it was now. You're not a whole teapot. Just a couple of glasses. So man who went to hampton together. He's actually justin bieber. Dj's been beavers dj like less swell years at this point and so we were running a website called college radio music and it was great because you know we. We had a ton of traffic because he would dj in dc. Like every weekend and he he would plug college radio music so we had like events and we had a website where people can go to get the latest music the latest sports news. Whatever it was just run by young people like us and we had we had a. We had a business partner. Who was it just yeah. It just didn't work out you kinda you know so i was new hong. Yeah a little for a new home and so thankfully for someone. Like karen civil. She had her own website. I was blogging over there. At i was. I was at smoking. Section went out just reading the site and by calling for new writers and a applied from narrow went from there and so this is two thousand and nine so all those other job. We're were talking about the financial services to govern government proposal writing. I'm writing at smoking section that entire time and and ask god he was like. Was there anything you need me to write about us. Like the right right about whatever interests you could write about the nfl playoffs. You could write about you know a new album. Mix tape or whatever just come out and he was like just keep writing the more you write the better. You're going to get. And i really saw like my. You know my skill level really start of all to that play so smoking section giant adamant i o those two places everything because it really started to get my name out. There really really started in amongst other places to like eddie mice who works at a worst. Espn with us. He's an nba editor out for longtime. He ran his. He helped renaissance called sports fan journal. I used to freelance as whoa so like places like that. It would just allow me to get my reps up. Yeah so you were writing their throughout those other gigs and then you became senior content editor and that was a full-time gig for a while before. Espn yet so i was doing that but you know it was getting paid from them but it still wasn't enough for like a full time job but like i'm telling you sarah like my my life definitely from my twenty in two thousand twelve up until about like the end twenty fourteen it would just be. I will go to work work from like. I don't know eight to four. I will go to gold's gym in. Do whatever i call was a workout in those damages. Come back home and for my eight. Thirty nine o'clock to ballots sometimes two three two three in the morning outages right because that would allow those pieces would be posted the next morning so i was at work. Those pieces would be working for me in an infringement. So how'd deputy espn then okay. So at this point this is twenty fourteen. I'm working at Rha which is richmond. Redevelopment housing authority Unlike the other jobs i got i got something really really debated at. I knew i didn't wanna do that full time. But i was working. Pr over there. But i'm working in the inner city enrichment so one of my job was to basically go to six different housing projects in richmond. Virginia and i was part of the the trophy program just to make sure these kids are like going to school and of always been an extremely empathetic person. I understand we understand what that experience is like. I have seen it firsthand. Thankfully i didn't grow up in those in a Infiltrated environment sometimes. But you know. I understand what that life was like in Already had a deep amman Empathy coming into that job. That job in particular really opened my eyes to the world in you know just being blessed to be able to do certain things go certain places and i just knew like always wanna right from that experience of empathy in my writing i want you know so many voices in those communities are just silence for like a multitude of reasons and again i was part of the jersey programs. I will go to gilpin court. I will go to court. You know when you should knocking on different doors in light. Hey is know jason. School is is tiffany school. And be honest with you like you. Just don't know what you're gonna see when those doors open up and like i. I've seen a lot of things in is just. I talked to a lot of people in those communities just about you know the day to day experiences. And i've seen how you know the police interacting those communities and it just ironically. This is around the same time sports too. But we're really starting to have these conversations. You know Policing community so on so forth and so i really started to like put that perspective into my writing a lot more. I felt like a lot more competent to do that. So you know. I've really my writing. Beginning accelerates fourteen. So i go to hamptons homecoming in like late october. Twenty fourteen round town. We used to have a day party on campus for hong kong. And which is something because we can actually bring the alcohol on campus in for so long. Hampton will not allow you to do that. I still don't think that. Allow you to but i think we just do it anyway. Back when homecomings worth thing when you actually be around a lot of people do things like that. So i'm there today party and it's probably about an hour and a half into it so every everybody's feeling good because it's open bar too so you know everybody's feeling good so i i get a drink. I step to the side. And i check my phone and one of my one of my friends from hamptons is oded me my man my fraternity brother fred. And he was he was adjusting. I'm a big fanny writing. I've always loved by reading your stuff over the years. Do you mind if i introduce you to somebody at espn. I was like. That's how i know we've been drinking lot because you're asking me if you could introduce somebody. Espn to me. I was like please like this is the furthest ever got Apply for jobs. Espn but my resume winning some black hole on internet never to be heard from again so he didn't do it that day but that next monday. When i'm driving back to housing authority for work. I was like man. Let me hit fred of nc williams action talking about what he serious..

"East from richmond virginia. And we met at hampton. It's been one of my best friends for like twenty years. And he hit me like joe. I think lot of grass school at georgetown. I'm like why us they have a like a sports management program. And i'm gonna look into. It looks cool now. It did look cool but here was the draw for me sarah. I didn't have to take a test to get in all i had to do. Was pla what you mean. The studied for like you know g mail or barring anything like i knew i could get because i have really good grazing cows. I wasn't worried about that. So i got in and it was honestly one of those things where i needed to be like a stopgap. I don't know what i'm doing. I'm hopefully this. School can present an opportunity for me to where i could meet people in. It'll help get me to the next point. You know the next point in my life and honestly you know having georgetown as grasp resume has for something right. And and i'd like to thank you. Learn some stuff there. Yeah yeah definitely learned some stuff there for sure one thing. That's going to be the tagline. Georgetown university i. Yeah i i definitely learned some stuff there. I did not the biggest sell. I mean georgetown casella itself. They don't need to sell it. But i really enjoy like it's like like this would all of the schools for me. Yeah i definitely remember this stuff. I learned in the classroom but it was a step away from the classroom discussions. That hadn't admits. I got the ten while. Georgetown that's what i really remember. I remember working. Georgetown duke game. I i got the chance to actually work that game. That was when barack obama and joe biden and it was like a. It was like a big thing because i can't was. I believe that was nothing of the year before tara got there. I believe with the year before we got there but You know just been able to work those events and meet those people whether it be while they call it the tab at one arena. Now i call it the baraza center Meeting people that work in those spaces. I got a chance to be some people that worked at the washington post who basically were giving me cleaners on. Here's probably do you think about it so it's like those type of things yes. The classroom was cool. But the actual application of everything. What i really remember yeah and networking for sure. Sure art of any business school or master's program. Is you know that sort of leap from being a student but also still being part of the real world business while you're while you're learning and you had those internships while you're while you're studying there And then financial services okay. We've already gone over the numbers thing. They're few professions. That i could see myself in less than anything that starts with the word financial. I'm words person not a numbers person. It sounds like you are to what happened there. I needed a job. Told you a bounced around for a long now during all of this. I'm still freelancing. So like i will go to work today. Basically right it will buy one two in the morning and night. Wake up. be at work by eight whenever i had to be there. But yeah Again that a family friend got me the job. I was I'll be that. I was terrible at it out star. It was basically processing loans. You know filing paperwork in again. I i'm not. I don't look down on on anybody for any job. Because i needed that at that point in time in my life and i needed desperately but i knew and honestly Innocence it let me know the art. I definitely don't wanna do this. Like i knew in the back of my mind going to probably don't wanna do this but you know just one thing you could check off the list like i am not good. This is not that one. Yeah that's the thing to not. Just that i don't want to do it but this isn't what i meant to do. Which is actually think useful to do some jobs you suck at so that can never start back for the people who do them. And the way their brains work and how they're different from yours Because i you know you get a little chest hilo full of yourself when you when you're a great communicator. And then you come up against people with a lot of like spelling and grammatical errors and you're like come on and then you wait a minute. Let me just check myself math. I just mean a competition of long division or whatever So yeah so useful for you to go realize that's not what you wanted but obviously you still need to make money So of course you then become a proposal. Writer for government services has one does. This is so funny. This is is a real journey. Yes it is. This is just intensely. This is your life. Forgot how i got. I forgot how. I got the job. But i suspect that you would think like okay. Well you're writing so you got to at least be somewhat better this absolutely not. I was probably worse. That job than it wasn't to find the honest which by of course these things are very important. These are projects that are worth hundreds of millions of dollars but like having a goal to these old pamphlets read through like hundreds of pages of dooney. The bathroom the be sad square feet and get a copy and paid. I was terrible at it. I'm i'm surprised. They let me stay there for as long as they did. 'cause i'm i probably should have been fired like the first month at the at the very least and so background. They're like he went to georgetown though he'll up yes and maybe i could have but again those there. It was just like one of those things. Like i again is a is a very necessary and a very important job before i don't like doing this. This is this is. I mean it was paying me. The most money to have made up into that point in my life is cool. I live in and around. Dc agassi all. My friends up here but like monday through friday. I'm just like i'm falling asleep. Death like ain't nobody was ever rude to me. Because i'm one of seven. People always treat people with respect. I was raised. But i could tell my bosses. They're getting annoyed with because it'd be lack like three months of like. Why aren't you getting this. Unlike right i technically don't want to get like you gotta have that want to. We'll get right back to the interview but i..

"Growing up. You're playing sports creating illnesses. Maybe not the best route to nuke says You want to be an astronaut and all these other things you end up at hampton university. What was the major was the goal once you got there. Honestly you know did you see. Jr smith tweet the like yet. Are you allowed to change. your majors. Kept me down there. Yeah i was like. I remember those days out with one. I went to hampton because a lot of a lot of family are h. b. c. You alarms and so that that culture. That's what i knew growing up So i i knew i was gonna end up going into. Nhpc you just a matter of which one in i went down to a couple of events at hampton during my senior high school now like this is where i wanna go and this is what i wanna do but to answer your question. Oh sarah like at eighteen like i. I really didn't know what i wanted to do. I knew i was majoring in communications Anything where the math is super hard. You know like. I don't need if it's not a final score of his not points. Per where some yeah. I'm not doing that first week. Sales for an album. So i knew. I if i major in communications i don't have to do a lotta matt and Even honestly even up until graduation. I really didn't know it. I wanted to be a journalist. I wanted to be a writer. But i didn't know what the path to get. There was so i it took a few years in just basically behan happens to answer. That will get the espn over the years. I checked out your link in it. Did it did a little bit of a jumping around to various places. Although there was some sports early on so it's it's it. Felt like you found it and then it was about finding your footing somewhere that would stick. Let's talk about virginia house delegates. Okay tell me about that gig. What's the goal there. Oh man okay. So if i wow that is crazy i haven't thought about this This is one of those things. Where so when i graduated editor recession. If felt like by the time i graduated in two thousand eight there were like a hundred jobs for everybody. Not just one hundred jobs for people coming out of hampton hundred jobs for the entire class two thousand eight. Yes so i'm like man. I just need something that would you know. Get some money in my pocket. And maybe i'll do something here at this internship. Maybe it will inspire me to go somewhere else. I lots of you not by The inertia was cool. It was easy at this point. In time i had my own blog that i was running by write sports stories. Write music stories. So whenever i wouldn't been supervised. The internship i would just be on my site just writing like writing about like pieces of legislation and all that like the you know the it's over ten years passion for you. Nah nah i mean. I met some cool people along the way. But i knew that pointed time by a really like writing. I gotta figure out one. I need to get better at. I know i need to get better. It's two thousand nine at this point. And i just told myself if i stay committed to it. I don't know how long it would take. I don't know when it will happen. But i adore would eventually opened for me. And that's what i'm telling myself every day. The house delegates knows pretty cool. I've been brooms where you draw it. Maybe i'll write and be okay. So you end up you end up spending a couple of months at sp nation and octagon suppose sports related gigs. Neither was super long tenure Were there takeaways from either of those jobs that were like all. This is what i wanna do or was it still not the right fit but in the general you're getting closer. We'll see those. Were two internships. That i had when i was in grad school the georgetown so they helped place me there. octagon was really fine I enjoy sydney sitting in on meetings. Where you know they will talk talk about you. Know i guess Perspective events or opportunities for clients in things they wanted to do in the social media. Space that that was that was cool. I liked it definitely better than you know politics on. But being on that business out of sports at least at that point in time timeless It's cool but it's it's not much week by sb. Nation is when. I think it really hit me like This is like if. I continue to just meet people within this industry. I can you know. Open this door which will hopefully lead the door which will hopefully lead to. This house adore a zone so forth. So i knew in a really cool guy. My man andrew sharp who used to write a lot at a grantland. I think he's done some stuff for g q. I'm not sure where he is right now. But i just remember him. He was like one of the first people to really embrace embrace me. At sb nation and with an industry like that That show me look you just stay with it. I don't know there's no set blueprint of how to get to where you're trying to get to but if you just they want exist when you get there no no no industry will have changed and now that you want to get to keep going obviously roundabout way. This'll be said exactly what he said. So now tell me about georgetown. That's a for any grad. Blackpink: Light Up the Sky
"I watched this interesting netflix documentary last night it's called black pink light up the sky and tells the story of the South Korean girl group Black Pink. So it's all access documentary covering four years since black pinks explosive debut in two thousand, sixteen with video footage from. Your training days intimate looks into their day to day life behind the scene stories interviews, and it really does follow the trials and tribulations of being a K pop star the recording process of their album, and then one of the members pursuing a solo album and culminates with their two thousand nineteen coachella performance I. Didn't really know much about the K pop world. And these girls are really impressive. They're so polished their English is impeccable. Some of them grew up outside of the country and then moved to South Korea to be part of this K pop. Process this training process. These schools are no joke. You've seen documentaries about bands probably boy bands and they have nothing on these girls. For years and years, they would do three to four dance classes day vocal courses. Like an all. All encompassing life of a pop star every day all day long they live in dormitories. They still do actually these four girls and they seemingly have great friendships but you don't know how much it is totally true because. As the process of training the documentary is so So polished and controlled. And I just worry if these girls and a couple of years from, we're going to be like I went off the deep end. My life was so controlled I can't take it anymore. They're wearing luxury items in these interviews be you can't help but wonder how much of the money they're actually taking home with them. They have had so many people with hands in the pot. They have had trainers, choreographers and management and publicist marketing people, and then you go to their shows this. Crew this really large crew who makes it all happen so I'm just wondering again years into the future what they're going to say about how much money they actually got from this whole process, but it really shows you the difference between South Korea and America because Luke Roman. That creep that backstreet boys in the sink, he may have thought that he had the greatest training program in the world I'm telling you these Koreans got nothing on them like they're running a tight ship and that those k pop songs are pretty catchy I have to say so check that out. "Really shook by high society like I think for being the first one that I watched it in today's society. I mean within the before the first commercial break Oh I can't think of the girl's name right now. The foul mouth girl who lived with DABNEY. Jewels dual thank God jewel is very evil. She's very evil. Tools could Joel's Kirby. She had everything ever written about her and believe me. There is a lot back in the day like lots of gawker articles. She I think that a lawyer and had every single thing written about her scrubbed from the Internet. Back from like twenty ten to twenty twelve. You literally can't find anything about her. Any articles that were like just think pieces on her. Wow, I wonder how because I just watched high society on Youtube I'm surprised. She hasn't tried to get because those scenes damning. She using the N. Word saying that Oh I use the n word, and I don't think it's a problem like this is like within the first ten minutes. Honestly, if we weren't doing this episode I, might have tapped out at that point, but I'm so glad I didn't because that's. That's not the mood of the show like I. Really feel it was like the. It's funny again. Because just looking at it in the time they put those people on besides the mercer girls because they needed drama, and it would have may been considered boring just to have Tinsley her sister and her mom, so they needed all these firecrackers, but It's it's just kinda interesting to look at introspectively. Yeah, so tell me what you thought like you WanNa talk about just kind of Tinsley the twit Tinsley of twenty ten versus the Tinsley of twenty twenty, and like the trajectory that she went on. Let's do it. You're so funny. On high-society she had just left topper, and at this point she is fresh from that relationship and she has. It had the whole Palm Beach Experience, so no, no, she's are much. She's very much mourning. A loss of that relationship and I think they're I. don't even know they're definitely like not divorced. By the time it starts I. Think they're definitely separated. Maybe like the divorce is like almost finalized, but in the very first episode you see her. Moving from the Upper East side apartment that you showed with topper into her own gigantic loft in midtown, which is like a very strange place for her to let nobody lives in midtown like it's much of office building. It's a little weird. But you very much see her mourning the loss like going on dates like at one point. She liked dates this German prints like that was kind of weird, very handsome, but various. I love to deal with so obsessed with the fact that he could have been an oxy she was. Like the library like? Do Research in the card catalog using the dewey decimal system. It was I was like I. Wonder How I would explain this to like a teenager now like like this was the Internet. It's called the Decima Card. Catalogue Immune the Dewey Decimal, system. It was. It's really funny at Dale is very much. A meddler in tins lease love life the same way she is now. Did you know and I was reading a little bit about it and I haven't had a chance to watch, but I definitely will. Do you know that Tinsley. Dr Phil and they explain their dynamic mother daughter relationship and how Dr Phil Episode About It I. Think I knew that, but I've never seen it. I'M GONNA have to dig that out. If I do I'll email you the episode because that has got to be gold sea and I love that like the trajectory between twenty ten in two, thousand, eight, hundred thousand tensely. She's pretty much the same person Mike she to. The core is the same person in his just gone through different things I think that so here's right I think they're both dark. Where when do you think she's more dark like you think? She's darker back then or. Now, or at least when she joined housewives, think housewives, and yeah, only because well. That's tough, you know. And I just happened to I just was kind of glossing over season nine dimbleby's first few episodes today, and she was at the point in her life where she was just talking about the palm beach arrest all the time because she was just kind of trying to make sense of it so when she started New York, she was in that very dark spot from the recent arrest, but boy I mean it's tough because on high society. I mean topper was her high school sweetheart. Yeah, so that really. Yes. He was her high school sweetheart. They married they. They eloped or something when they were literally eighteen years old, and his parents made them get an annulment. And then they married for real like New Year Times like announcement. It, I think in two thousand and two. So? That's twenty years ago. Isn't that crazy? It shows that like he really was like the love of her life will in the fact that she kept her last name Mortimer Lee. She doesn't have children. A lot of people would have gone back to their maiden name in the epic. It's interesting. She kept mortimer. while. I. It doesn't surprise me at all that she kept morning running. He comes spoil. He comes from an oil family. He comes from. It's a very suicide in the name carries with it a lot of weight, so I think it gets her a lot further to keep that name. You're right, and that's exactly why Sonja Morgan is still Morgan. Why during a medleys still medley wild luanne is still a Dallas APPS and the Countess. Apparently, she's still using counters I mean if that's not the richest thing that she could God. Oh. The county's as it. What's interesting is watching her date watching her go on. These dates printed look. This was ten years ago that she filmed this. Watching her go on these dates and try you know sort of like these suitors. Like if Scott had like walked.

"There was a there was like a scene of Tinsley in her circus makeup going. Fucking miserable. So I think that maybe she's holding it all in, and it's all going to come out, you know, due to the the passionate the trap peas. Yeah. The passionate the trappings. Fourth holding onto nothing. Gets on so back in the back in the car was sunny and Bethany Ono actually now, they're in Brooklyn. Yes. Another at this big art place. Our lace lone studio, very Tecate guys there at an art place. Take a warehouse send us like oh hunt. This is hunt place. I just feel so guilty because he's been here year. And I haven't even come everybody who's anybody has been here. Okay. That's relaxed. Let's relax. So they they get in there. And he's there he's just like an old old Queen, you know, who talks in like monotone, you know, there's certain queens at speak in monotone, and it's like devastating. You know? He's like. Good to see you. Have. Like what what is your family? How what does that mean confront this? Crazy. Thank you for having us this place to believe you got so much property. You wanna flip this? You want to flip this, and there's all these birds everywhere. Yeah. In cages and bunny is hampered and well, the bunnies are the paintings and the birds or the animals live bunnies to know, the just just painted bunnies. And like what's the deal with other rabbits, like all the rabbits? He's like, well, I'm the sign of the rabbit and say, okay, I used to be in the birds. But I mean, I guess I'm more ever rabbits. I Chinese Sodhi and all that goes. Yeah. But then a year. He's like, yeah. Just out. Then I'm a talk. I'm knock and said he goes, I'm a rabbit too. I'm year of the slut, and I owned that. I'm used the mommy slut or face says Sonia Sonia who is like trying by Sonia. Who has just come off the you don't fuck you don't touch the fucking Morgan letters. She goes right up to one of his paintings and puts her fingers on as like touching it. And she goes, what do you call this textures? Greek grew yell grew grew grew. He's like I can't cross hatching. Yeah. Yeah. That cry. Fabric. I need this in my apartment Bethany and as an ally. And like here's a picture of you on this. Oh, me Bethany look into me in a picture to come over here luck. These looking at the art because look to me in another picture Bethany. It's true. I did have my picture taken. And so then Bethany sees a picture of Tinsley on the table. Up Kinsley Kinsley. Oh my God. Like, this is real. This is really real. This is like this is what life was before she turned into a pumpkin. So me shots. She would love to be a part of that world. Again, Beth me have you watched this. So of the Bethany is just figuring out. Everybody's personality today Then fit. she she figures out some in the next five minutes to it is kind of funny though, I mean Tinsley Mortimer was like in the mid odds. She was like she was like the Paris Hilton of New York, you know, like that she got name checked on gossip girl ended a did a cameo there. But like the fact that she was even referenced in gossip girl was like to give some legitimacy to like those characters they were living in New York City, you know, and like now that she's like the punching bag of all these women that just like the lowest on the totem pole. And that she's just sort of like, you know, I don't want to say, she's pathetic. But like, she's sort of her her her sort of like character is, but that again is you know, it's kind of amazing like total about face that's happened with her. So we hear the birds are like. This. Starts talking back to the birds win. I think only Sonia can pull that off. They know my music so yet, but he's like Jesus Christ. What's going on in here? The birds. I mean, like the birds are not don't sound that different from Bethany on a bad day. Basically. It's like nine thousand Bethany he's in such totally normal..

It's like wouldn't she wouldn't Ramona said that I think Kinsley was like mortified to be associated with the bonds like that's Tinsley better than that. And so was so yeah. Yeah. But so is pretty much the only one in the middle like Tinsley is very much rooted herself in the blonde team side. And I think she's better than that. Yeah. I think team blonde is breaking up during Dan. Ramona are perfect for each other like go frolic, but Sonia intensely are very much in the middle there, classy broads, and I think they they might need to be moving over to the dark side. Literally understood. Well, thank you so much. I've started at shock to my house seen it I- portrait's ended photos, and I'm gonna start to get his pictures of imprinted on like I'm gonna go to campus people get like little bags and hats and shirts with your name on it and your picture on it, so Q. Yeah. That's what I'm gonna do actually use my code for for canvas. Can you get him on style? Yes. Oh my God. When is have your dog? It's beautiful. You know, it's not. Like selfish. If it's not of you know, totally and it was a work of art. And love the oh Kim's people can put your favorite photos on canvas for really unique prince. So I have three pictures on my wall ready, but I need like top to bottom like a bunch more campuses like some ones of him, Ben. And I wanted to do a naked photo shoot of me him THEO. And that we can have canvas people printer for naked. Why does it have to be a nude photo shoot like a glamorous nude photos breasts like or just like having ideal head hover my nipple that? No, what has that is like, that's creepy. Whatever Kim's people prince your favorite photos on campus for really unique beautiful prints, great for decor. Like me, they're really like pieces.

"In less than a week. The days are going to start get longer again. And I'm definitely grateful for that. But also, I'm kind of in a sense encourage by what you're trying to do with the C pass foundation. Why don't you inform? Our listeners in terms of what C pass is all about. Okay. It'd be helpful to to tell ya. It's about a couple of acronyms. Foundation just with the C pass hands for C. And for creating pathways and access for student success. And and this is a fully formed not for profit that has been started within the last year to really builds on the work of a program that started in nineteen seventy nine it was based institute of technology called the Chicago area, health and medical careers, prevent more that. That. I was in high school. I was a participant in the program just opened my mind to the possibilities within the health professions and really in a very direct way. Let me be in a position that so we so we had that definition of what C pass actually stands for in terms of creating these pathways. That's right. And the other in passes trying to do is really pick up on the work of camps which existed couple of years ago when the state didn't have a budget. A couple years and and broaden its mission. From just, you know, preparing students of color underrepresented students of color for for careers in health professions. More broadly, careers, and technology and through the preparation of what's called stem, which you'll hear that acronym thrown around with stands for science technology, engineering and math, and it's interesting because what you actually doing is almost being like a conduit if you will or a clearing house where parents and caregivers and counselors can go to the portal in terms of C pass foundation dot org, and they can, you know, put in where they live and what kind of careers. They're interested in and find out about what services exists there. I guess to connect them with their interest in that particular stem career. That's right there. One thing that I share about my own story is how chance of faith in me becoming a position through my family action within the program. And it just so happens in my mom was in a grocery store, and I was getting high school as I mentioned and bumped into my credit teacher who told me. Told her that this this program that helps prepare students for the health professionals, and it could just as easily my mom had not bumped into MRs three. And so what what what is true? There's so many programs that are being funded from so many sources, and it's just the the knowledge of these programs stem or otherwise, no. So with the Corno does is aggregated statewide all of the different stem programs that are available from age cave through through college. So that in one place so that a counselor or parents can go to one place and find a program that fits their child or someone who some other child to pay. Now, I also wanna just dovetail off those comments in terms of what happened there while you were in junior high school or high school, I believe in terms of that chance encounter with your eighth grade teacher and in doing so what did that mean not only for you? But the other kids that were involved in the champs program. Well, you know, as I look around Chicago nearly every position that's African last night. I know. That was kind of pathway for us. Wow. And you know, and so you I think about when I talk about this program impact in my life. No, he gave me the approach that. I've carried to medicine, namely, Dr John, Bradley. One of the founders, but about social medicine, I learned that of the junior high school, and what's that simply means that the impact on health is beyond just the doctor patient relationship in an exam room. It it matters about your community where you live. You know, we can have environmental racism, so they can be illegal dumping, their it matters who's employed in the Myers access to a grocery store. There's a lot of things that are not call social determinants of health then matter to the health giving community, and I tend to -rupt you there. But one thing that is a social determinant of health are is your economic standing, and we're going to talk in terms of why it's so vital for us to look at these careers that are going to lead to a positive economic standing in terms of stem. We'll do that on the other side of the break and continue our discussion with Dr Eric Whitaker. You're listening to Chicago
