"The using I'm not saying I'm not. I'm not saying I'm mad because they use big words that can understand they use a naturally big words in the discussions. It's Really these not to me these are not fun people to hang out with going. No, they're not no I mean and I wish they were none of them have fun. I'm not saying because they're back characters is because there was written for them. Just is annoying man now. When you're hillbilly at Republican friends talk about those Goddamn New York elites. That is. That's what you'd be like sit. Patrol. Man. You say Timothy Sallemi, is woody. Allen. Ministry three Woody Allen's in this movie. That's true. There's Timothy Salaman law is jude law, and then there's Selena Gomez Selena Gomez. Woody Allen and this just three fucking woody Allen Alison here and I gotTa say Selena, Gomez They're all great actors I love everybody in the movie. They give him great performances except when the obviously would allen and she's on one is like well, that's kind of cool because she's so young and she she. She just. Does it well, man she almost seemed like a New Yorker. Issues Very Acerbic, which she was really good at on. TV. Show the wizards of waverly place she never saw. Yeah. Like all those Disney shows that was the one where my kids would watch it. I watch it with him and I was like acting like I wasn't watching. MOMS hide Selena Gomez. Funny. The main kid. He's a pretty comedic actor. Everybody's doing what Allen while they're walking around here and I mean it it gets to a point where you realize given new. York. You, know the the Romanticizing of New York gives people more and more talking about movies and whatnot. The jazz soundtrack is like man this has gone beyond being tour. Woody Allen is ripping himself off. Yeah. You know there's a fine line between being autour and just like I ain't got shit to say anymore, I'm just going to mind my own movies. Autour is more like you know there's an aesthetic. There that you recognize that makes up hopefully different stories. This is the same. It is it's IT'S A it's a real return to small movies that he's done before but it's like like a small movie he he would do as an exercise or throw away leading up to something big don't think this is leading up to something big Nah Nah. I think that's why I got weird with the whole thing with the because there's nothing else there he's ripping himself on only stands out is this thing we theme of young girls like an older guys? Know I I like the cast Timothy Salom have you say about him doing with Allen or whatever you say about him an actor maybe you don't like him because he's a pretty boy or something, but he's really good. Yeah. Yeah. No I- begrudgingly had to admit like I say at first it was grading on me because like I don't know who made this choice, but I'm not digging it but after a while it was like, all right he's getting into it. I'm I'm I'm getting into it And there's moments where they just let them be. I think he's walked in the room and just playing piano and much as I can say, like man I don't feel sorry for this guy, I get like. On some level even though he's got everything heartbreakers universal and especially getting dogged around by by somebody you think you love the only time that was like again, this guys he said now he's moping in the rain. Nice call in his mommy and complained and begun. He walked in a rule in started playing the piano in the song was Whoa is me? Things for me. Mike Castle. And the man. To. Stand full? Air. Special to your answer. Was Good? Even I found. With. Clam. Something to cry about. MC..

"He's kind of a whole package maybe for me. Also he's Jewish. We can celebrate Chabad. That's right and he's from New Zealand. That hobby accent take it is. Wow this is really. Like I love Oscar. Isaac so much this is this hurts but I feel pretty confident in our decision next a battle for the teenage girl. Inside of me Zach Daffron versus Timothy Salaman-. Oh this one's easy. Is it for me? It is are you going with Timothy? Yes he's another one where I'm like. It's hard to differentiate him as a person versus a him as a character in little women or call me by your name first of all fucked peach each. You still haven't even seen Commie by your name. Because you're a homophobe. No this really for you is like this is a competition between the stars of your favorite movies are your friends and little women absolutely and based on those two movies obviously going Timothy. Shell I want nothing to do with that confronts character. That's true there really has not been any redeemable Zach Ephron role. No it's gotta be Timothy. He's got it all it's hard. Yeah I think the one the one drag against him is that he strikes mistakes such film school student. Or I'm like Oh that's I do and you know that he just like only ever WanNa watch some criteria like he probably wouldn't watch. We are your friends. Yeah I do think that Catherine has become the type of hot where it's like. I would watch you ride a horse on like a beach at sunset by that is a little difficult to do right now. Yeah we'll say Timothy Timothy say all right two more matchups. Trevor Noah Versus Andrew Scott Aka Hot Priest Aka Andrew. Scott all yeah. He was also in Sherlock way before we before hot priest was I mean high priest priest. Trevor Noah as an individual. He has been filming like quarantine videos from his balcony. Which as we know now a strike against the one percent if he has a balcony in New York City. It's like okay. Deity and Andrew. Scott his fellow Homo. So I feel like I I need to need to stick with it here for the community and finally for our first round Donald Glover versus Hassan Manashe. Where are you falling right now? I'm curious I feel like Kasama. Nausea would be buy go-to gut reaction. Yeah I like Donald Glover a lot. I feel like Assan would be like he'd be able to like tell me what's happening on the news so that I wouldn't have to consume it myself in a way that wouldn't make me panic and I'd be able to make out with his face all the time. You have an amazing face. Yeah he has that balance of like Q. Versus hot but it's very hard to straddle any he straddles it very well and I'd straddle him I will say a shoutout to the weird falsetto voice that Donald Glover does as childish. Gambino red bone is like you know incredibly incredibly satisfying but Sorry to this man. It goes through a son round one round. Two eight mattress. Apps are question is who be the better hunter gatherer? This is who would be the one who's able to strap on their face masks and go to the grocery store and You trust them to come back with everything you need. And if need be in society fully crumbles WHO's GonNa be the one going out hunting for game potentially warding off zombies. This is the the physical round we ready ready. All right. We're we're back to Antony Henry cavill hoof obviously we'd be better at the grocery shopping aspect of it. I feel like he'd really got that on lockdown but then when it comes to like once grocery stores are wiped out and we're going to like the hunting element of it. Henry cavill obviously can use a bow. Arrow. This is Tau Fit. Is this where is on how important that slash between Hunter and gatherer is? Yeah 'cause I would trust Antony well okay. We're doing a lot of heavy lifting in entrusting that anti knows how to make food beyond. Guacamole.

So I'm getting married in five months and and my dog. I really want my dog to be in my wedding so I was thinking of having her as my flower girl. But I don't have anyone to be the ring bearer so is it too much to have a dog be both a flower girl and ring bear. Or what's your opinion on dogs and weddings so okay. It's couscous would walk. We want to be the flower grow for sure. Is that what you're saying but but also maybe a ring unbear- social we bring in a new dog. I think that'd be crazy. That's what I feel like ring around his neck. And then some sort of contraption that as it Trots Trott's flowers you know that's our answer. Yes now is outfit already selected. It does okay. I mean that seems seems like the answer agree basket of flower petals on. Its back that somehow like releases them or something very shallow basket so when they removed Jocelyn. I don't know there's gotta be some. I would be so scared. The dog would eat the rings. I don't know why I just think that that could could be about but I guess if you put it on the caller that yeah that's a smart way to get not tasty tasty rings tell you what if it's just make carrot. Flavored hates hates a carrot. And he won't get into it. Can you believe as much I handed. And here's what he does he's like. "Welcome back everybody Nick the Julia and seven twenty W. G. and it is a Monday morning my dad's going to call and tell a joke we're gonna talk about guilty pleasure movies in black and white movies and all kinds of fun stuff if you want to jump in its three one two nine eight one seven two hundred three one two nine eight one seven two hundred we are doing the Monday morning movie reviews and let's welcome the guys back Eric welcome back thank you and Steve will come back thank you okay just before the break err conceive reviewed judge a rabbit I got to say this was not an all the movie I expected it to be not at all and I was surprised at just how moving it was I just expected wacky I just expected a wacky you know comedy and it's much more than that as a lot more than that and it's a really it's a really genuinely moving film that that it does start off a little bit slow and as you said once that once the character bell says introduced the kind of just a if that's where it really does work really starts to grab it I thought that both of the kids were fantastic in it are into and and and I you know I thought the handling of the of the eight all character was done well it it it was you know it it it was it's very shaky kind of ground to to do that kind of thing you know they have like you we are one of the main characters to to be Adolf Hitler at least a version of imaginary version of Adolf Hitler but it works out there are some very funny moments in the movie but the thing that really struck me was just how how moving it was I didn't expect to be I don't expect to be emotional about it you know I can come into this movie thinking that I was going to be you know like really emotional and I was and I know my producer Tom saw the movie over the weekend and to it really affected you right yeah I mean it was I I I'm on the same page as you I did not know how much this is going to get to me yeah and I think that when you have to deal with this sort of material it's totally a fine line that I think ultimately the film manages to walk pretty well and you know I think to to me the movie is less so about trying to say **** are bad because that's kind of self evident but I was really struck by the way that it portrays children and the way that it's a movie about how we fail kids and how kids get strung up and things are so beyond their years like there's images of kids wielding weapons and everything in the kind of final moments of the of the war coming to an end for Germany that just you know it was of the perfect feeling of satire where it's like it's so funny but so true that it makes you cry yeah you know there's a there's a lot of truth to it so I really thought it was a spectacular spectacular film and I'm I'm a big fan of Thai because so I I'm I'm really glad that this got made yeah it's good stuff all right okay guys well Steve yeah what about the White House and how do you gonna give this with him a little of the hardest things I've ever tried to like an output notes down for I only give this shot so we have director and co writer Robert Iger is is I'd say slightly obsessed with history even the way he presents the follow up to his first film the which shows that it's stark black and white the aspect ratio is almost a perfect square like like the early talkies and of course the setting of the White House of the eighteen nineties in in the in the low light house in a remote a name New England Ireland in it there we meet lighthouse keeper named Thomas is played by Willem Dafoe in his newly arrived under ling aphorisms played by Robert Pattinson and together they have to keep the light house going twenty four seven and what ends up happening during the course of their time together is that either one or both of them is going completely insane and and acres wants desperately to drag us along with them I could just stop there I think I want the light house isn't is definitely not so much about story as it is about mythology of the sea and and the police were sort of legends in reality blur heavily in sort of a wind and rain swept location that that looks it looks so lived in you can you can smell it and what that smell definitely is this parts that remain as loud as any foghorn on the planet this year delay that the photo exhibits with each new fart is worth the price of admission I'm gonna say that and anybody who doesn't think the White House is primarily a pitch black comedy might be missing something it's probably go see it again like I'm going to anyway if there is any villain in the film aside from the weather in time in creeping madness it's a blood Sir Steve Siegel that that torment Ephraim relentlessly in these but he's not allowed to kill it because of bad luck to do so for those who work to see as the film goes on I I became less and less sure what was real and what was delusion and at a certain point I I stopped caring and just sat back in and let it wash over my brain the two men fight more and more as the film goes on Divo did the full scream like a banshee and and Pattinson basically learned to drink like a sailor in the for the first time and becomes really violent sometimes the entire experience of watching this movie is is really immersive and I don't use that word very often because I think it's over use but it's almost like a horror film that makes your bones cold and and the fear really sets in because you really have no idea how things are going to end or worse if they're going to end their accents are so sick and exaggerated it makes the entire experience even that much more other worldly it's a contest to see which of these two the dogs I like more the photo is as committed to this part as I've ever seen him will but patents in just kind of vanishes into this role especially with the the physicality that look like pure torture to the scene where he has to log this beryl up this seemingly endless stares it just hurts to watch Pattinson's essay on this incredible role right now we fight highlights in damsel in good time in lost city of Z. these he's in this new Netflix so this came out Friday called the king with Timothy Salaman he's just shot the new Christopher Nolan movie and of course we've got the Batman coming up so I I'm just so impressed with this guy right now the screenplay by I acres in his brother Max is based on actual journals from the period in low and and and location and then a bit of like Melville as you and you can definitely feel it it's sort of a hypnotic exercise that proves that Robert Eggers is the real deal as far as capturing a sense of time and place he's not teaching is what it's like in whatever area he chooses to set his stories he wants his audience to feel like his movies have just sent us into like some sort of time travel like he wants us to feel the sultan on our clothes when it's over and smell it and in in like if it's a wonderful thing a even if you feel like you do need to shower afterwards so yes the the light house it is a terrific film guys hang on okay take a quick break we'll come back we'll find out what Eric thought of the light house now let you know when I thought of the light house that's all coming up right here in seven twenty W. G. and.

"Around me I can trust well the movie is slowly loosely based on Shakespeare's Henry plays in history and actually don't even get me started on a host of podcast for the Folger Shakespeare archive in my other life so I could just bore everyone to tears anyway reportedly this film hardly even resembles anything and Shakespeare right seven nobody ever says heavy is the head that wears the crown that was the clip we just played is the closest thing you get to that is the the poetry and even showed who directed this and co wrote it with Joel Edgerton who plays Falstaff it's very showy role of course and they said I you go all the way with the Shakespearean angle of it or you don't and so they didn't and they drawn on history about the pieces are all there is really really solid I don't love it I love Devenish showed other work I loved animal kingdom Ben Middleton than this to all the damage Chrysler and I keep seeing this headline email prince hal we want and we happened to be email I mean that's that's why everyone every generation so we re write history so that it looks like something that we're into right now because he will try to make history accessible and right now good thing now I can be and to me that's what Shakespeare did it with his with a with his and replace no that's a good thing but as you know an email print talent that thing I have we just wanna put Timothy Salaman things we need to email it up in order for that to function so yeah okay there were and you get a full pack he gets the ball cut which helps the complete the email but does he make the bowl cut sexy but I will so everybody gets a bowl cuts I've also seen his fall stuff is on a keto diet why not he's a very thin falls I guess comparatively compared to what you might expect you know but still it'll either tends to get love in life clearly in this role okay so he brings the false yes yes it's fun and his Robert Pattinson bring the Patterson all my gosh I forgot the he's in this too it was a show we and so playful he is the dole fan there you go SO M. now it's that yeah it's tremendous cast yet so he into the Salamanca go head to head like talking trash to each other so it's it's serious minded as like a serious solid maybe awards season the kind of a historical drama it's it's well made okay well the movie opens in theaters this weekend though and it's going to be on Netflix and a few weeks so every you could just rate or do you need to see in the and that the address I think it's really worthwhile to see a movie like this in a theater if you can in a reclining see it with yeah with five vibrating Falstaff is what you want so flood thank you thank you Christy thank you you at thank you so much thank you Christina marriages co host of the podcast breakfast all day and she writes for Roger Ebert dot com and William just a.

"Joe's famously beautiful hair sort of spilled out all around her and the capture something like one of the very first lies of the books mentions. Just fondness for lying on the floor. I was like this is the content I'm here for. References and so excited. This one's for the fans. For the book news for the Alcott heads Elisa, Elisa Scanlon, who we talked to you for the so washing podcast when we were covering sharp objects. She was just such an electric presence in that show last year. And I've been really excited to see her. Do Beth who is like a much different wildly different character. But I just think she's such talent that I'm really ready to see her pop and then Florence is it pews at he pronounce her last name? I think so as Amy like she's incredible in everything she's done. And so it's just it's a an amazing cast and additionally all of that beautiful costumer amazing gas. And then every shot where you see, Greta in Greta gerwig in frame like doing director hands, or whatever I get really excited about with Meryl Streep. Tackling their aunt. Yeah. That's cool to see obviously you know, Greta gerwig reunite with Timothy Salaman, sir show Ronin after lady bird, and then I love this, quote, because I think if Greta gerwig eternally as like Francis high as a very like contemporary, sort of borderline punk rock, like already person. And so it's interesting to see her do, like a period piece by love this quote. She gave Sonya where they were just people. They were not in a period piece. They were just living there were those modern people who had ever existed up to that point. And that suggests like a, a hopefully, a fresh, you know, modern look at this whole thing or maybe not modern, but, like, just giving it the life of re time as its lived not looking back in some nostalgic way. No. Exactly, mike. And I think that, that's, that's really tricky, because sometimes people kind of overly period, the period piece. Yeah. And, you know, I think about something like years ago. Mike Lees fill mister Turner or just what I saw it can that portrait of lady and fire where you watch movies, and it sounds like a silly thing to say because I certainly wasn't alive them. But you're like I bet this act. Really, what it was like, you know, and like a quote like that makes me a hope in that, like, are we could be on the right track. In terms of getting very lived in textured kind of thing, not to say that the nineteen ninety four film, the killing Armstrong film, isn't. But like you know that was twenty five years ago. It's now you know, new generation can experience the, the story on film. So, yeah, it has been excited and those costumes, which, again, aren't overly or Nate also I think lend us that, that to that sense of, of authenticity. And I thought the pink converse, all stars was an interesting touch to threaten. Phoenix. Well, I think it's funny because it's, it's good that you mentioned the Gillian Armstrong version, because for people our age, she weren't complete weirdos. And it had already seen like the Elizabeth Taylor Katharine Hepburn versions of Little Women. So Gillian Armstrong's felt like a third remake by the time came out about ninety four. But like that film, the ninety four film is such an iconic film, for so many people. The fact that there's so much excitement around Greta during this is really incredible as opposed to resistance of like how dare she this is my, this is my definitive version, this nineteen Ninety-four version, and like that reception to this project. I think speaks to how much Norma's goodwill, she has built up after lady bird and just the impeccable way the that she's cast this film. Yeah. It's we talked about trailers, occasionally on the show, but very rarely to be talking about photos in this much detail, which I think maybe says something both the house, sending these photos are. And how excited we are as a group, for Little Women and starved for Oscar stuff. I mean we have..

"May he just I think he'd just got done with like homeland. And. And like I had DCM coming up after. So they were going to need me a week for that short. And then after I knew I was going to need time off. So I was like this when I make the jump because I was like this, it was a, it was a low budget, short sag short. But in my head I'm like, it's a sack showed. I'm probably going to get my sad card. And then after that, you know, once you got the money just Keating. Yeah. Yeah, I was so sure. So I, yeah, their spinners right there. Brown. Kiss snap from there. Swimming, swimming, pup. Trick. No shit. Weird. It says spinners short, starring Timothy Salaman. How come your name's not. Well, yeah, talking about SEO subtexts came in in In the the span span of of. Bill, you lash? I, I still talk to that director in the moment like he had it on vim. Yo use, like once Timothy got that. That name called me by your name. Once he got the Oscar nominee was like, I need to put it on YouTube. I'm like, dude also. So it's makes it easier. So people can find me. Let people know. It's funny because like like, I'll because me and TIMMY hung out like we used to hang on like a little bit. He's in New York. So the same way you hang out with your New York friends, but definitely like he I've got downgraded from like text responses to reacts, and I was like, all right, I get it. Thumbs up busy busy. I'm a catch your fade. When I say you. I've one question jump just to jump back to your dad from an and he have any favorite TV shows because I'm always curious about like, did he did he have anything in like, you loved American TV d- did he not like I have fun stories about my dad's interactions with American media for the first time. So my mom tells us, he hates this story so much which makes me love telling it so much. But one of my mom and my mom and dad's, I dates, they went to see golden child and so, yeah, yeah. No knee. So you know that scene where he starts beat boxing, the thing. Yeah. So during that scene like that happens and everyone in theater lasts and my mom says that my dad, like taps her and leans and goes, what these funny. And he was like, oh, because you know, it's it's rap. And then like he's like, okay, okay. The tattooing is like what is rap? And my dad all. I know it. The fact of the matter is no, he didn't because growing up, he was jamming. The monks chant. That was the one that was in there. He's big like in your fan, which like, look, I love him for because I have a huge appreciation for that. That's bang, bang out to India. But yeah, like it was so fun. He hates us, but it's but like, say. Say because that like he also has like that immigrant mindset of life work before play, like his whole thing was like, if you need to work hard you in, once you work hard, you'll be able to party all you want when you retire. And I was like, that sounds wack, right? No one's going to be partying like I wanna party right now when I'm sixty like go. And so so he never really had anything in media that like that. That's his favorite show like he, I remember one time I was like, do you have any hobbies? Like, what are you? What are you talking about? He's like such a hard worker. We did him out to like Nali would movies like like if you and my favorite thing about Nali would movies aren't necessarily the movies themselves, but the way they are advertised. I, I mean, if you want to pull up some definitely checkout baby police. That is my that whenever I'm feeling down, I watched the baby police trailer because it is, am I correct in saying that a lot of the Nigerian movies that are coming out now are like cartoonish violent, like they're like, oh, gone. That's gone bad because Ghana loves them some some like special effects, and it has been getting better that I'm like. Oh yes. Oh yes. I bought this time MacOS Pelata comedy. When we see..
