"He's not chopped liver it's rare that you see is a team with two hundred yard rushes in the same game will the cowboys head that against the rams this is a big third down in the backfield now comes back sets up behind Prescott it is one Scott is not too soon not only for the football he swings into the policy and politics and he won't but this is George Lucas again making the stop of the field goal unit comes on so in Malcolm says the football came out and he's clearly got the football and and recover the ball but the officials aren't saying anything an outstanding job six they're trying to run the option this time then everyone again they're playing their position on this option and they're able to stop the cowboys and they're going to force him into a field goal situation others include three Timmy Jernigan down this time like I don't know if there's anything here that dog could challenge you don't want to waste time outs but I'm watching it again as Pollard fights football definitely came loose but the question was one zero he was sitting alone though he was like look book comes out I would challenge it looks to be like the ball is coming up and there was clear recovery and I know.

"Ablaze. I think Okeafor still has value as a rotational edge. I think that's pretty much exactly what the Bengals need to be in the market for because odds are Michael Johnson's not coming back. To bring him back. Probably be given raises just now worth that. As for playing three hundred four hundred snaps, but besides you know, corals Dunlap. Same Hubbard Carlson coming off the tourney CO, Georgia wills. That's kind of all you have an edge right now. I think they need add someone else case Lawson doesn't come back from the one hundred percent and at the top of the drafters a lot of talent. But I think as you look towards the mid around death kinda gets a little a little murkier if you will. So I think. Exciting guy like Okeafor who again wouldn't dig into your competitor picks couple million dollars a year. Basically the money that you would be paying Michael Johnson. Bring him back to kind of filling that rotational that rotate within with guys like Hubbard Willis, still fairly young thing late twenties. But so provides decent spark as a pass rusher in kind of all around salt edge player in other than Okeafor think another guy who could be worth taking a look at would be a TIMMY Jernigan who is also had a player option declined from the eagles. I think they saved about seven million against the cap. They're they're doing a lot to basically opened some captain fiercely eventually to extend Carson Wentz, I think they're almost negative in the red cap space. But Jernigan, I think is a guy who provides legitimate pass versus three technique, which is something that the Bengals still don't have even with Ryan Glasgow. Hopefully coming back from the ACO but position where you know, you're looking at the depth of. At the Bengals have the thing. There's promising potential they're just not rock-solid depth that you become full with. If players went down, that's kind of will be. So last year when they had the get now, Scott and Christian off the streets. Jernigan he's going to be late twenties. Maybe thirty years old this year in provide the decent pass rush presence for a couple of million dollars a year for a one to your deal..

"He is Benjamin Solex follow him on Twitter at Benjamin Solex. That's SOL AK. Ben. How's that serial how you doing? But let's Gordon eleven my time. I've not yet. Ian today. I have no shame. I serial bites between talking on the podcast at this. Boy, I've even stopped caring about whether or not it's allowed food or quiet food originally. It was like all right. Try to get quiet food make life easier on Mike now, just like lesson when I'm not talking. I'm going to be munching. You're going to deal with it and posts you left me and your Beijing with me, and I appreciate you. How are you buddy? I'm doing. Well, you're right. You want the quiet last time, you spilled your smoothies. So I. Understand you're not necessarily carrying as much anymore since the world betrayed you. And you try to be nice, which is how the world works. Sometimes speeding of how the world works. It worked in a weird way for TIMMY, Jernigan recently, Ben before we get into the topic of the show, which is the fast approaching NFL combine, in fact, it's already here does not in the nationally televised manner that we know as but pro football talk has reported that the eagles are not expected to pick up TIMMY Jernigan option. This does not come as much of a surprise. Ben. Can you give us a barebones bottom line of what this means? And they will let the folks at BGN radio pick this up more in depth later on the week tearing Jernigan vehicles trade third round picks with the Baltimore Ravens to grab him. Which by the way. We don't talk about this enough. The ravens earlier pick seventy eight became Chris warmly who hasn't done Jack diddly squat for them. The eagles round pick ninety nine. We was the game. Still douglas. So we won that one too many ways that exchange thirds the ravens and as a result journey comes over on the. A year his deal. Now, he plays really really well during his final year of his rookie deal in Philadelphia. As a result goes to extend his contract. So he was at the end of his rookie deal. I believe it was the hit the fourth year like eating out. He was a fifth year option player anything like that. And Philadelphia extended him for four more years for forty eight million dollars. So that's that's that that's the basics of the extension now that extension had within it thirteen and a half million guarantees on signing and twenty five point five total guarantees. So we talk about guaranteed money. There's guaranteed signing in those total guarantees, obviously, what's the difference. While the the delta about twelve million in this case is not guaranteed at signing. It can be guaranteed at a later point in the contract. And that's what's important. That's kind of the big thing. The circle here in early twenty eight teen Tim adjoining had an off field injury. He had a belief sports. Hernia surgery or herniated disk, maybe it was something like that. Anyway. And as a result with an off-field injury the way contracts rebuild, I don't know. Exactly what it is pretend me, but with the clauses in place. Field injuries. Give teams a lot of flexibility to move on from you, you know, especially because maintaining your health as part of the players prerogative on the off. So as to make sure that they're still under contract. So Philadelphia could have cut TIMMY Jernigan just after that early. Twenty injury moved on from him with a non football injury related settlement or whatever. Instead Philadelphia like to do Harry Roseman was to keep TIMMY Jernigan on his current contract but heavily void the remaining guarantees via restructure, right? And so at this time early twenty eighteen when they restructured TIMMY, Jernigan what's said is that oh Philadelphia's now off the hook for the guaranteed money of Tim journey..

"So then it forces you to make other moves, and it does remind me of what's going on with the ego. Secondary. 'cause you have guys playing out of position. I mean, we have a fourth round nickel corner was supposed to be Avantis Matic's playing as the starting safety for us. And we've gotten to the point where we've activated in our giving significant playing time two Cornerbacks. Devante Bosley who couldn't make the team in the offseason, you know, safety. Trae Sullivan, cornerback in Sullivan, and those guys have been really key for us. We just got back Sidney Jones from a hamstring injury. Jalen mills is dealing with a foot. Ronald Darby is down for the year with ACL Malcolm Jenkins has really been the only consistent in that secondary forest. So I do worry about the matchup in the passing game with the guys that you mentioned was shepherd with Evan Ingram with all of the weapons that you guys have. And you guys finally figuring out how to use saquon Barkley in the passing game is definitely gotta be huge. But as far as the eagles run defense, they were solid coming in to the saints game there there one of the better units in the league in what you look at what? The giants have been able to do well again, especially against you know, you look at the bucks. And you know, the eagles are better run defense in the bucks. But they also have a problem with their second DT spot next to Fletcher Cox, you got guys like TY McGill in there. Because a lot of Alati note. I can't not I can't stay healthy. Timmy, Jernigan is still been out for a while. So yeah, I do worry about getting gashed up a little up the middle of little bit that defensive line rotation isn't as robust as it has been. So that's something that I think that the giants can definitely take advantage of is is the run game in that work in the playoffs off of it. And you don't necessarily need the run game to bump to work the play action. But it certainly does help in both or bump in. That's for sure shirt. Does you know, it's interesting that that you talk about that defense because I'm thinking back to the first matchup end in the secondary is something that I thought at that point in time that the giants were going to be able to take advantage of. And obviously that just didn't happen. But you know, I need to ask you something about this eagle team a new when the eagles and giants played the first time, I think it was week six I thought the giants might have an opportunity there because the eagles were struggling a little bit. But the reality of it was I think the giants were a little shell shocked coming into that game. They had just gotten beaten four days prior by Carolina on a sixty three yard game in field goal, which is which is kind of familiar. You know? You know, I don't know what it is about the giants in game ending sixty plus yard field goals. But but you should feel good. When you see the other team lineup for those. But you know, when you're the giants, you kinda cringe at this point is like no can we kick it from fifty. Can we move it to an extra point? Maybe I don't know. But but here's the thing that game was a lopsided thirty four to thirteen game. That was probably not even that close. And I looked at it. And I had always thought. Okay. The eagles are the defending Super Bowl champion sooner or later. Hopefully later, we're going to see them begin to actually look like the defending Super Bowl champion. And I thought from that game forward that that might be what happened, but it obviously hasn't happened. So I mean, the the very. Simple. Basic question is at the bottom of it is what the heck is going on. You know, it's interesting. There's a lot of different theories being thrown around as you say that the giants win. I think that that's when everybody on our side. Okay..

"Blue green color. Wow. It's amazing. Joe is a scorpion a mammal. I'm going to say negative ghost rider the pattern. Give me a ding seltzer. I get it. Right. All right. Thank you. Very good work by. Thank you. I appreciate their work. Now. Now was the great work by us. I wonder yesterday John, and I we kept it real. We tell you what we we always tell you what we think. But there was there was a little bit of pushback, you guys negative Nancy's lot. A lot of dwelling on the pessimistic side with the eagles the Rams and the saints. They're so good. You guys always say a little bit of pushback, John. What's your, okay? And it happens from time to time. No big. But I mean, you did bring up a point at the end of the show yesterday, which I thought was different fun and something that maybe. Away in the conversation related to Beagles. So you say yes, say it's probably around one thirty or so yes, you said, you know, Joe Tamar it we've got to have a positive worry end eagle shell like, you know, it's not all. It's not all gloom and doom. The division is there for the taking the Redskins loss to the falcons. Now, we find out obviously, the sense that we last convened the Dallas Cowboys also lost. And you know hill who the hell knows where this goes TIMMY, Jernigan looks like Jernigan could be in the fall sometime over the next couple of weeks, of course, going to be part of the eagles offense moving forward. So, you know, you'd said that maybe there's something a little bit more positive oriented as we it's a recalibration week and even recalibrate ourselves from yesterday and kind of rebooted second-half outlook, and I hope and I turn it around today. What positive moments? Oh, yeah. Return in and around the day with positive moment. I you say man Sakya. We can we crank up something positive. I think we can I here's the reasons for optimism. Right. I've yes, absolutely. There are I feel like we were too dour yesterday. I feel like I dunno like there was a little bit of an edge to the both of us. Frustration wise. We didn't get to watch the eagles play. You know? It's it's like so it feels like it's been so long. It feels like we've lost touch to some degree. And I still think the Rams the saints are better, by the way. Oh, they are. It's not about now. It's about tracking them down before all said and done, right. Really mean that you don't win anything on November sixth. Right. You're you're you're hopefully progressing at that point. And and being more wins and losses helps you get in the playoffs and have home field. And that's going to be an uphill battle. For the eagles. Eagles are not going to have home field. And they still got a lot of work to do to get to the playoffs. But John is we kind of recalibrate even ourselves today from yesterday. There are reasons for positively hit me lay Sakuma, let's redeem ourselves and look at the things coming out of this by the coaches, self scout. I know that they will approach the these upcoming games than second half differently. Schematically speaking, especially offensively. We know Jim Schwartz does what he does. And we know Jim Schwartz spoke excitedly about the return of TIMMY Jernigan yesterday. Timmy Jernigan was out there in jersey on the practice field. Granted it was just a walk through yesterday. But my, oh, my what a huge step in the right direction defensive tackle is exactly where we need the most help defensive tackle is where I I was hoping we would make the impossible happen before the trade deadline because there is such a need there. Right now, we got Hello de NADA who has proven. He's nearing the sunset of his career. Fletcher. Cox taken all the rap, and then we got Trayvon Hester and making the the cut. Hester and Hector Bruce actor being gone that says a lot. I mean, the writing is on the wall for TIMMY journey Guinness. It's really. From that non injury non football injury list. Yeah. Sure. So that's a huge boost, and we will be better upfront defensively. Now, I don't know if it's this week. He'll be able to play. We have no idea. Jim Schwartz was skeptical. It sounded yesterday about him being thrust back into the thick of things right now. But at least we know that's on the horizon and on the other side of the ball, you know, Mike gross book yesterday about the fact that you know, he he's got a new chess piece. He's got the second best receiver on this team. And it's pretty close between number one. And number two. I agree. Golden Tate is man. He's tough pretty damn good player, and they can use him in a capacity that. Quite frankly, Nelson or failed in this season the run after the catch capacity. So we we will look different in the very near future on both sides of the ball because of keystone players returning from how turning healthy share and also arriving here in the fold and.

"I've never heard of him before in my life. Listen, here's my I was just very impressed with the way the chargers played, and you could say they'd beat up on teams. But teams always do that the NFL the schedule for the most part you're going to play a ton of bed teams because there's a lot of teams in the NFL. I watch it every Sunday and a ton of bad football every single week. I saw bad football last Thursday. I saw bed football yesterday seeing mediocre football night when I walk into back into my living room to watch Monday night football praying the Dak Prescott doesn't throw anymore. Touchdown passes at arts my fantasy team there's bad football left. And right. The titans turn it over on their first two possessions almost immediately. It's you can't say that a team isn't good because they only beat bad teams. You just can't. It's just it's seem new aggressive. My point wasn't simply that they aren't good because they only beat bad teams. But my point was. They aren't good because they lose to good teams. So they're right now their first round matchup would be the Houston Texans. I don't that. That's a given by any stretch of the. That I don't understand the Houston Texans. Right. Don't have any feel for them whatsoever. I have okay. We know who the chargers are. We know they're going to be a solid team. We know what they're going to do well with they're not going to do. Well, I have no idea what Houston Texans. The Texans can put up fifty points and their defense can randomly shut out their opponent any given week or they can score five points. Part of that's apparently the defense and the defense gives up forty and given week. I don't understand that team. They are so week to week with their production. I completely agree. And I also think that the Damaris Thomas impact is much worked in the first week with them. They're gonna feed him as much as they tried to early in that game back in Denver. I think that was sort of an anomaly based on his situation. Well, I think it was trying to I think it was trying to establish that he's someone other teams have to game plan for and by the way, he only had three catches. They only got three targets. It's not like they forced out on the ball fifteen times. Which is what I hope the Dallas Cowboys are currently doing with Mari Cooper. Yeah. Let's see Amaury. Got the ball Mars five targets. He's got three catches for thirty ours score. All right. I'll take that. That's fine. I would like to see more Cooper failed. Just because it looks like the Cowboys Maton even worse trait and then golden take a couple of touchdowns this weekend. But that's neither. Neither here nor there very big game. Timmy Jernigan back in practice. I saw that. I saw that very very fun twenty one days of that that line. Timmy, Jernigan good football player is I can't tell if your guest. No, I'm dead serious. I when I saw that news today. I was extremely excited position where we needed to really kind of sure it up and him. Coming back veteran presence guy that proved it last year that you can really really play. Well, we have to. I mean, I don't know who can run the ball on us Zeke or nosy. Okay. Let's let's circle back around to this. Chargers thing real quick before we got here. Thank you in any given week especially in the playoffs. You're looking for that one guy who really going to carry a team who's capable of gigantic games and putting the team on his back who was that guy for the chargers. I think Melvin Gordon's that guy. I think that the offense has changed and it's not as reliant..

"Down. Just. Let's go to war. No way about him. He's olga. Yeah. I have my headphones cranked up loud. But I. Oh, I can't control the volume. No. Oh, yeah. I I'm old you really years or old. Yeah. Oh, you can't see anymore. You fall department. You can't reverse the aging process. You know that or not? Undefeated. He right back to the phones. Let's get Matt in Deptford euro ninety four w I p your rob. You are absolutely right, man. I'm tired of these people calling up here talking about, you know, you'll relax. No, the eagles should not be relaxing. If anything they should be worried to death because I mean, just look at it. We got beat last week by the Tennessee titans. Marcus mariota threw for three hundred fifty yards. And if he had any kind of receivers who can catch the ball, he would've gone for four hundred. Catches the first two touchdowns. Six six Marcus mariota. He's not even he's middle of the pack is that what are these? What are we going to? Do. We make the playoffs and we play these big time quarterbacks. This is going to be pitching cats all over the place. How 'bout Abbott Lew Abbott? We get through the next game before you have to before yesterday. Crimea river the its way through the. I I it's like you you just give you a quarterback from this get him back. He's so he's getting back. That was a second. He's not the issue. Balkin lung tissue issues. We get we just got whooped all around. He's supposed to be the leader. He's supposes Debbie in there and say this is not happening. This is my squad. Now, I mean, it's like you don't panic in a situation like this. If you panic you lose the rest of the season, the hell you panicky for you have to have his his urgency. But you not saying I'm not saying needs to panic. Yeah. But I'm saying you should be concerned about how this team is looking because you know, what for the next couple of years until we have to pay this should be pedal to the metal Tom because once let's just at thirty million dollars to get a team around him is going to be much harder. And that's why we should be on. Then we should be keeping keeping the heat on these boys. Oh, well, we won the Super Bowl last year. We're too. So no, man. We gotta keep the heat on that. I mean, how many Super Bowls has Aaron Rodgers one one. Thought by now he would have had two or three Super Bowls. You only got one he might retire. But one of the greatest quarterback all top one Super Bowl. And I don't want that to be off. Well, you think your way for the bucks? We'll game five of the season after. Look like the same team. You're not gonna don't have the same from year to year. You're not going to be the same. The. Escape anything team. Can't right now. Let it right now. The Franklin we get out coach now played is what happened. That's not a concern. We had the game to get coach. Is is over. You have to move on once yet to move on to a two yak four. I'd say. What if we was one of four that wasn't happy after they got along Andy Reid. Oh, I can't wait for them to fall apart. How about how about we just worry about how about we just worry? Like like, you keep keep your worry announcement minimum. I don't want you to have never breakdown. Big rental. He'll come through. We'll fall apart. I know. Game play. Talking about here, though, everybody said could go pick somebody else who who who who who's about to was panic is about to jump off the bridge. I'll think everybody's doing Franken Wilmington you're on ninety four WIP. Hey, guys, vegetation, my coffee table. These questions are for you. I'm not really on board with wanting to get lady on bell. I mean, all the tall. And I really think our defensive line is a big problem 'cause we ain't getting no pressure on the quarterbacks and many corners. That are going to be able to cover guys for six seven seconds. I think the benefit trade was I think Asia. I don't think I think what Renna Frank what we're missing a front isn't Mr. TIMMY Jernigan. We miss him like a son of a book, if you if you if you go back to look at when he get last year the push up the middle is key. Because you only get one game put really wanna get pushed the other guys inexperienced you rotating unloaded because he's a little longer too. So but really miss a TIMMY Jernigan what he could do. Pleasure. Cox was in command of a game. Is there? Exactly this. But see if you have you get we need to back to her guy rotates. When loading NADA. Definitely definitely. Yeah. But he's just not timber. Johnny. Right. We we we think and then I do like the benefit Billy gives us a good rotation journey get back, and they get a nice rotation going. We'll we'll see we'll see that rebuttal riches. But you, but you, but you are correct. They are led the quarterback. Stan back there too low. Yes. I mean, I think there's going be fine. They will win tomorrow. Because I mean, they were saying I think it is a must win game. Sooner or later, the Rams are gonna come out of Los Angeles. 'cause they've stayed in Los Angeles. Oh oh year. So far. They're gonna have to play in the cold weather, and we get to play them. No. You don't want him to get too many games ahead of you. When you're fighting for home field. You're you're going to be out of the game with you. We don't want we want. We don't want him to get to the middle of this game. And we and we formed four I believe I disagree. But this is the fourth fifth game. You're talking about two and two games behind them already. So what did you bring it on taxes? Thanks. Jay downtown. You're ninety four WIP. Hey, guess so so what I what I see is is super Lang over. I mean, we're two and two and I feel like what I'm watching is all offensive line a defensive line that although they may say they they haven't gotten back after the Super Bowl making routine mistakes that you don't normally see them making. So I'm not worried at all about the two and two. I mean, it's a week to week. We so you come out next week win beat the Minnesota Vikings. And all of a sudden, your, you know, your heads. It's simple. It's it's it's a week to week leak. Now. One thing I'll say is in two thousand fourteen because remember, but. After six games the Seattle Seahawks were three and three. Now, we're three three think about what we're talking about. Right now season's over after ten games. They were six and four. I mean, we're freaking out if we're six and four to ten games. They went eleven before ended up going, so well, I look at it is you never know what's going to happen. It's we tweak league. I expect them to catch their stride at some point start playing like Super Bowl champions. Get. Yep. Start happening soon. Expect. That's what I expect to. It's got to happen soon. Now, we got a game tomorrow. Well, yeah. Well, tomorrow this'll the fence, and I understand you want us to Russell. We get a pickup game going. So you feel woman fuzzy. Yeah. Break up. I mean, I understand the offense hasn't looked the same. Because Carson Wentz missed the first two games. Polls isn't same. As Carson Wentz. It's not it's not the same. The weapons aren't the same. The defense concerns me and the offensive line concerns because the offensive line is more or less intact from last year. Jason Peters is there. And he wasn't there for a good part of last year. And now they're switching out with for see them. All. Yeah. There's going be. It's gonna be interesting to see if it works up can't, wait, right? Four twenty five game. Bowen. Four twenty five. Yeah. You can't you can't wait. Less than twenty four hours. Are you going? Yeah. Be there. Make an appearance there in a few places where? Glad to say. "But sometimes they don't talk to Chris in south Philly. What's up, Chris? Hey, how's it going? Good curse was up. I mean, I'm obviously worried I mean here we are it to. I mean, we lost three games last year. So we're we're we're we lose Sunday where we're matching that total already. So there's obviously things effect. Secondary suspect already and there's holes that need to be fixed. Whether that safety cornerback, you know, something needs to be something needs to be fixed. And I I don't know the answer that is right now on the on the team. I don't even know where you go outside of the team to fix that. I don't think there's that player that you can fill that hole with especially with an old times taking injury. I mean, I don't know where you go. I don't either if it is it's not a name that were it's not it's not a brand name. Certainly there's not another Earl Thomas just sitting out there that is available. So if it is somebody it's it's someone we're not talking about here on the airwaves at least. Right. So so so, you know, what my opinion, I think we go you soup up the offense you play that game you scored more points. And you you play offense ball because that's that's that is football. Now, you you know, it sounds. It sounds easy. Sounds john. Like you score more points than the other team. You win the game. I mean, not the NFL now. Well, that's true. I mean, the the I it feels like Chris that the NFL's looks more and more like college football every week. And you watch any game. It feels like the first of forty wins that is becoming the NFL especially now, you have the Rams do what they're doing out in Los Angeles. So I get that part of it. I just don't wanna give up an asset for a guy that is sitting at home, and he didn't have his greatest year last year. He slipped as a runner last year. Yeah. Can I make sure I think if you defensive line hasn't been as great as they relate to find ways to fix that rotation that will help the secondary. And then that way you soup up the defense a little bit more and that covers the gaps in the secondary. And then we're kind of get back to what we wear last year. You know, that might that might make it a more cohesive unit. And then it might fill out kind of what we're missing because I think I think Cox isn't he's just he's he's lacking that that that extra punch because I think he's on the field through much. I agree while he's had too many snaps Chris. And I appreciate and that part because TIMMY Jernigan has been hurt. And he might not come back the whole year off Bowen, she'll of the coming in at eight. We'll talk about what they heard today specifically about TIMMY Jernigan if he comes back pasteurize has to be better. And I'll say this for Sunday they won't beat the Vikings. If they do not get after Kirk cousins, they will get torched..

What are you most intrigued about in this matchup. Oh, that I'm actually intrigued with how the falcons choose to play offense with their personnel. For this reason, Nigel Brad will not play in this game, and it would seem to me that the falcons would wanna stay with base personnel quite a bit which they do. They do often play with two tight. They do play with a fullback, but I think they would want the eagles linebackers assuming the eagles play with three linebackers. They may decide to go big nickel and play Graham, the safety almost as a linebacker or Jenkins can do that as well. But I think you wanna put the eagles in that situation Ross and then line up with a lot of base personnel. Obviously, they won't do that on third nine, but I think you wanna see how the eagles are going to handle that with nine zero, Brad out of the game because the only real starting linebacker they will have out there is Jordan Hicks, their middle linebacker, and he's coming off. I believe in Killys injury. Yeah, I was gonna ask you out of the guys other than once al-shabaab Jeffrey and TIMMY Jernigan as well as Nigel, Brad, which guy hurts him the most. And it sounds like you you think it might be Brad them? I think it could be yes. The other intriguing element to this game is just what you mentioned with the eagles missing Jeffrey and MAC Hollins who will be out as well. I think that you'll see a lot of two tight end sets, and I think the rookie Dallas guttered we'll get significant snaps in this game. So that's the on that side of the ball. That's the the other element that intrigues me in this game. Totally agree. You know, Greg eagles fans are very nervous about Nick foles and the fact that he's not played well in the preseason. Do you have a read on that? I mean, he has had a history in his career of being up and down guy, a major history. There's a very wide variance in his play. I think he needs to be schemed. I think the eagles did such a good job with that and in the playoffs last year. And I think you'll see a lot of that. They'll be a major chess match. Going on here, don't forget. Teams of now had an off season all teams, but certainly the falcons have had an off season to figure out how better to defend run, pass option concepts. And I know the eagles are trying to expand those concepts as well. So I think that that's a critical dimension to this game.

"The titans the chiefs the panthers and the eagles and the eagles won the super bowl why in the world would they not make the playoffs and he says here's what he says it's it's gonna try to cut to the chase here the quarterback position whence is coming off an acl injury in foles is notoriously streaky poor nick foles once you get all his abuse a best just getting beat up on side and down the other whence failing to recover dealing with a setback of any kind doesn't automatically mean the folds comes in and wins mvp team lost its offense coordinator and quarterbacks coach there slew of other injuries to monitor as well this is okay now he's going to listen to what happens here because he's going to contradict himself over the course of two paragraphs all right okay there are a slew of other injuries to monitor as well and he mentions i'm not gonna go into detail jason peters darren sproles jordan hicks all sean jeffrey timmy jernigan and suddenly dealing with back issues no easy thing for big men who just metal and then here's after he tells you that their problem is injuries here's how he closes a lot of attrition and we haven't even talked about losing frank right losing john d filipo there's a lot of changes and when you go back and look at defending super bowl champions when you take the patriots out of it because they play in a division that doesn't count you see a lotta times super bowl champions failed to make the playoffs in the following season and i think the eagles will do just that okay and then and after he lists all those injuries that he just listed he says philadelphia was thirteenth in justed games loss last year so it's not like they dealt with a ton of injuries every just gives you the list of all the injuries by.

"They bring in sean jeffrey they bring in timmy jernigan they bring in jj they bring in ronald darby they were able to be aggressive because they're not carrying a huge quarterback contract on their books with that means well you bring in a guy with a big number like jeffrey or you can acquire young player who's also on a rookie contract and know that at least for the time being you can take care of that player to after a little bit of a trial period i think darby jernigan would fit into that already paid jernigan and so the eagles sort of drew blueprint there where and i think seattle did this a few years ago when cisco to degree to when they're quarterbacks around rookie deals like seattle was really aggressive when russell wilson was still on that rookie contract so they went to got michael bennet from tampa they got cliff april from detroit got percy harbin from the vikings and so i think that's sort of become the new model now is like all right we're gonna get a rookie quarterback ready to play once we've determined camp play now we're going to strike while the iron tot and we saw that with the rams right so we see them bringing in dominant sue and brandin cooks and keep ta leave to some degree the team we were just talking about the box right we've seen it with them they trade for vinny curry they trade for jp they sign ryan jensen from the ravens we've seen it with the titans who have marcus mariota on a rookie contract they go out and they signed dion lewis and they signed malcolm butler and so i'm like i think this sort of become part of the new model is like you get you get a really good quarterback on the draft and while he's on his rookie deal you become overaggressive and trying to take advantage that window you have before you say i mean if you think about it the first couple years of brady in new england it was the same way and then when they got him on that second contract it was only ten million a year which based on what the market was at that time really i mean that was what that might have been in the top twelve but it would have been on the lower end maybe in the top twelve in terms of actual cash dollars that were being paid to him and i think it's a fabulous point in that especially if you're drafting your quarterback in the first round and you get that extra year to be able to squeeze out with the option that might sort of force negotiation to where even in the first year or two of new deal you can keep those numbers manageable to where you don't have to blow up the rest of your roster i'm with you on that my number two is the aggressiveness of some teams this year i like what the browns did i like what the rams of done i mean they're to your off of your point what do they have with jared goff right now rookie contract so go pay dominating sue short term money to bring him in give up a first round pick to go grab yourself another wide receiver now on that one it was we weren't gonna pay sammy watkins sixteen million so let's bring in a guy to where we can control the salary a little bit but they were aggressive and doing so i talked to somebody in.

"Going to be it's all on record i think they had the best roster top to bottom when they made those traits for timmy jernigan for darby when they did that i think i said this happened a lot of places that team has notifying weaknesses if their quarterback develops into the player they think he's going to sure and that's exactly what happened i mean i think that is i do not say that about the term super bowl contender is always so dumb because last year we had the debate about the jaguars i was a little more high on them just because the defense in and you know they turn out to be i don't think either of us considered them an actual super bowl contender but but it big out there or they got to the afc championship they got to the absolute cusp of super bowl contention i would say this i mean there's you know we did the thing last year and we should do it again how many teams can win the super bowl and the answer is usually around sixteen or seventeen and i would put the kansas city chiefs squarely on that list i would not jacksonville jaguars go to the game last year the jackson jaguars had probably the second best roster and the blake bortles is what i'm saying who knows how good mahomes is going to be right that's that's sort of what i'm saying even if he's great i don't think that the rest of the ryan saying that cana team win a super bowl is sort of an x factor question right if the if this happens if that happens i mean there's certain teams like the buffalo bills with the cleveland browns who i know that even if everything breaks right they're not making the super bowl the kansas city chiefs for me are now one of the i didn't they are team where if they get the breaks they can they can get to the cusp of contention that's aggressive okay we can talk about that way you'd rank them on how to them on my infrastructures list okay i love the offense i hate the defense all right it's the falcons i just think the skill guys and the line you know the talent there is just deep and i love it and obviously they lost kyle shanahan i can't do we start keys eating i don't think sarkozy in his schottenheimer level bad i'm going to give him nother year but i just think this is a talent talent ranking julio jones long as he's there the running backs the line which still has guys like alex mack i mean i it's for me i like to be a quarterback in atlanta i would have said that two years ago i would not say that totally under the top five i mean they're not even near the saints rams philly sort of thing and the other team i want to mention jacksonville jaguars only because only because they have a defensive will keep you in every single game eat if you are not a good quarterback which we have empirical data on i and i will say one more thing before we get out of here i think when we have this conversation next year that the chicago bears might be on there oh this chicago bears we were talking about that you were i was thinking melissa this year i'm not quite there i'm gonna need some time i this chicago bears are going to be good dude is it stop stop doing this right now two men bit on this podcast would be i was driving the barest bandwagon and you were telling me to stop them we'll be the only one that was going to because i'm certainly not going to be driving it this year mocking smart people like the bears i know and they're all going to be wrong wow all right that's it we're done jim cunningham has walked over to tell us that we're done which has never happened in the history of the nfl show that sounds great i mean i'm okay with it we've put in solid effort as always thanks for joining us thanks for listening to bring her nfl show on the renault podcast now thanks guys.

"And he's going to take it as disrespect because this the way they single block him he could change the game now they they have the double team fletcher cox they've mentioned fleischer cocks his name in the in the press conferences so you know he will have the maximum amount of attention and yes those giants teams those guys outside did get all the fanfare but that game was started by the guys in the middle the d tackle and playing on the nose that's what created pressure now to put the game away straight hand came off the edge at the end of the game but they got beat up their guards and the center got beat up by the giants interior line and that's what led the victory and that's one of the things that you're going to see in this game because the patriots they're going to deploy that three wide receiver one tied am personnel grouping so the eagles are going to have to match that with nickel now early down and distances you're going to have timmy jernigan and fletcher cox in the middle bow out it'll be rotating in there but when they when they decide on the longer down businesses that they need to get after the quarterback you could potentially see them taken out one of those defensive tackles and putting it another defensive and going with three defensive in in one defensive tackle front and order to have more speed on the field and be able to attack that pocket because as you mentioned c c you can't double team both of those guys on the inside of that defensive lines so whoever is going to get the one they gotta go to work they got to win that match up because you gotta get that pressure right up the middle on tom brady and order impact did you say earlier that jim schwartz didn't call a lot of blitz packages throughout the season he's not big on blitzing and tell me how that changes on sunday well i don't think it can't change on sunday i think you have to rush four and you have to.

"The d line seven people played over four hundred snaps it's been well documented no one in the national football league puts that type of pressure and personnel on you so if the eagles win those seven guys would have had a tremendous impact on the game i don't see a way philadelphia winning unless they have eight to ten hits on tom brady and that's the one thing that we seen what tom brady the last couple of years people are not able to get to either because of how they throw it quick or the offensive line they give him just enough time and that's why tom's been so successful lateness career and so on the d line so you have seven guys playing four hundred snaps which means nobody except for maybe fletcher cox is overworked you also have to keep in mind the eagles one of their strengths on offense that was time of possession averaging a little over thirty three minutes time of possession game that means the defense won't play in less than twenty minutes a game so they're extra fresh people when you talk about how to beat the patriots they of course talk about your team because there's not a lot of teams that beat the patriots only the giants in the super bowl and we think of the giants beating them we think of those star edge rushers the guy's playing next to you you think of whether justin tucker oc human your michael strahan the guy's playing the spite you play for the philadelphia eagles be the key to this game it's the everyone knows fletcher cox they mentioned him but timmy jernigan who they traded for he's been listed on the injury report it's an important injury monitor tammy jernigan playing next fletcher cox they tried to form then gave him a big contract to chris always talks about and you always talk about getting pressure up the middle because he get pressure on the edges brady can step up but get pressure up the middle where as you guys have mentioned undersized offensive lineman in the middle for the new england patriots those are the two guys fletcher cox timmy jernigan for the eagles evens to be great and tim i'm i'm gonna snatch from you know one you buddy noticed team biz dude is a beast.

"Of these guys also the new coach there obviously new england coached in houston very familiar with these guys so you're seeing that lineage and that's really important when you get to the free agent signings because very often when you're signing guys you're not as from when all you have is a guy that you evaluated and studied coming out of college but he's maybe been in the the league for four years and you really don't have any connection to you don't know what type of guy he is in the locker room but when you have a connection this is why a lot of these moves have connections with coaches or front office people that have had them in their locker room there for me with them in fact got always looking at it today and everyone's been asking why so many trades wire this early flurry but half of the coordinators all things have been defensive coordinators in his leagues this year has changed and that means a lot of people wanna get their type of fits for their offense or defense and a lot of it is we gotta get guys to fit us look what matt patricia is doing in detroit needed to get bigger more physical at linebacker signed two of them today so a lot of it you trace it to the players that you're familiar with how 'bout the philadelphia eagles on a defensive line that already featured fletcher cox and timmy jernigan they bring in michael bennett and now son veteran hello tanada to stuff that middle yeah they've really done a nice job of trying to keep things is much intact they've had to create some cap room with some moves but holiday nada can certainly give you on early downs a situation guy now they're gonna they're gonna lose bo allen which i think will hurt them but they can't afford him so i don't know that it's a upgrade but it certainly fills a hole that that is going to be missed when he walks good moves corey nelson do a one year deal make some sense at linebacker form they're trying to sign patrick robinson their slack corner so yeah they've made some moves we know about michael bennett and that's certainly will help he and fletcher cox will give them really good interior rush so now that can play on rundowns and then obviously you have been.

"Asia and they're playing with backup quarterback but there are a talented roster and then to listen to malcolm jenkins talk about the quality of locker room you know you thought start thinking about you legarrette blunt and you're there and in all of a sudden you're you're run a with gaozhai and you've got a trade those reps in and two to beat will play for one another not to be greedy that way but to be able to sacrifice for one another play for one other does show you what kind of locker room they actually have but yeah there exceptionally talented crossers just that you playing with backup quarterback never goes oh right you know it's nick foals an nick falls in the right system would doug peterson is put them in there um you've seen what he's capable of doing and and we showed it years ago when he was with chip kelly and it's what you can really look at is this offseason and last offseason the additions they made i know everyone focused on but they drafted carson once guy from north dakota state at number two overall is like the key moment but this offseason the he mentions adding patrick robinson you add alpha on jeffrey and tori smith you you by the way nick falls letting on the team they they brought him in they decided let chase daniels their backup quarterback oh they in nick falls you mentioned legarrette blunt and j j two guys that were not on the team last year jj wasn't even on the team at midseason and then on defense of not as many additions but a few key additions most notably timmy jernigan and ronald darby like you saw this team it all of a sudden both trades yes yeah but they were acquisition dreyer from this offseason guys ended timmy jernigan trade they just gave up like 25 spots in the draft to get round dr re they gave of jordan mathews and i ain't in addition to a draft pick i believe but they were what you saw how we rosen who's been with philly forever but had kind of his power taken from him when chip kelly was there once he reasserted control looking at the team this offseason he clearly believed they were closer than i thought they.
