Edwards' lawyer: Assault charges baseless; chair was in way
"The attorney for Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards said his client will vigorously defend himself against misdemeanor third degree assault charges for allegedly swinging a folding chair in entering two Denver arena employees after the series ending loss to the nuggets. Harvey Steinberg, the attorney for Edwards issued a statement Thursday through the Timberwolves that criticized the Denver police department's decision to inexplicably charge Edwards after game 5. Steinberg says Anthony's exit from the court was partially obstructed by a chair, adding that video of the incident confirms that Edwards did not swing the chair at any one. I'm guessing cool ball.

Do you feel alone in this viewpoint in the world that you're in being in the BLM movement? No, I feel like I feel like people are starting to pivot off of that democratic plantation for so long. We've been slaves to that party. You know, actually, we've been mental slaves, afraid to get off of that plantation because, you know, we've been used and abused for so long that party, they don't value our vote. Their policies are basically racist policies. I believe it's a racist party that strikes at the heart of the black family and the nuclear family in general. Phillips of deadspin I don't even know this was this place was still alive but they got sued out of existence the image of his career yeah the image of a Chiefs fan in blackface wearing native headdress during the road game leads to so many unanswered questions why did the hammer person give this fan any attention why did the producer allow the camera angle to be aired at all well turns out when you look at the kid he actually had blackface and red face on he had the colors of the Kansas City Chiefs along with the headdress so celebrating his favorite team the writer goes on to say that the answers to all this question while isn't the league's responsibility to stop racism and hate from being taught at home there they are a league that has relentlessly participated in prejudice if the NFL had outlawed the chop at Chiefs games and been more aggressive in changing the team's name this wouldn't have happened here he says there's no place for a franchise to be called the Chiefs in Wolves suspend Gobert post-punch for play-in game vs. Lakers
"The Minnesota Timberwolves suspended center Rudy Gobert for their play in game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday after the ten year veteran threw a punch at teammate Kyle Anderson in an argument in the huddle during a timeout in the team's regular season finale. Gobert took a swing at Anderson and hit him in the upper chest in the second quarter of Minnesota's game against New Orleans on Sunday when the flustered Timberwolves were trailing by 12 points. It was a great I actually think they did play pretty well tonight. I mean, I know John, you weren't super impressed, but I no, no, no, I'm not saying not impressed. I'm saying like, they had 11 charts, like if they played a clean game, they would have won this thing by 50. I mean, that's how I mean like they were sloppy with the ball and they were like, they looked like they were, again, it was another one of those games where they looked like they were playing with their food, you know? Like, they could have, if they really locked it in, could have won by a zillion, you know? But it's like they played great. They shot 60%. I mean, obviously they did that, you know? Yeah. I think it's just hard to keep that. If you go up 25 points in the second quarter or whatever it is, it's like, it's hard to win by 50. You know, it's hard to keep that same foot on the gas for the stretch of time, but you're right. I mean, there were points where they probably saw that they were up 30 and took a couple, maybe let the Timberwolves get a couple easy ones, but thank you, George, appreciate that. Overall, I thought that again, they're led by Tatum and brown. Those guys keep playing the way they are. I mean, another 30 plus point performance from those two guys. What else can you say? I mean, Tatum is firmly in that top 5 MVP category now. And you should be. You should be. Yeah. He should be. And I think we all know that he's not going to win it, but again, it goes back to the E may thing. The fact that he's getting the consideration, the fact that he's going to get his name up there and he's going to get some publicity and votes from it. That's a great thing, especially when you consider how this season started. Pertaining to get that because these guys do care about that. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing. They should care about that. Tatum was super bummed that he didn't get the recognition that he felt he deserved last year. And this year, it feels like he is going to get it. And I think that's going to, that's going to be good. That's going to be big for him. And it was only going to it's only going to be a good thing. This is a good, this is a good point someone made like the Tatum stuff is hard to unsee the beginning of the year because he wasn't just he wasn't just erratic. He actually had 15 or so awful games. Shooting games. Awful, awful games where the effort and the shooting would translate to bad defense. And again, that was part of the problem. You weren't the game wasn't flowing through the stars because they were kind of getting down on their own performances. You know, and they weren't playing well, and it wasn't translating over to the defensive side. They weren't shooting well. And just it was just endemic. Everybody kind of caught a piece of it. And it just, they couldn't recover from it. And especially late in games when those guys were pressing and trying to do too much. And it just wasn't working. So that stuff happened. The thing I loved, he kept attacking the middle of the defense. And he was splitting defenders with a more controlled handle than he's shown earlier in the year. That's the type of stuff that he was turning over before. So he's keeping it a little bit closer. He's got it on a string, but he's going right into the teeth of the defense and he made a couple really good decisions with the ball, but he attacked right into the teeth of their defense. Just over and over again. It was just really impressive seeing him do that. It looked more in control. It was really aggressive. He's just like, starting to get those shades of like early last year, Jalen, or best versions of Jalen. It's all kind of happening. And then just like, he's just taking those pull up jumpers or they're spot up threes. And just off the release, you can tell them like that thing's not even going to Nick the rim, you know? And just splash splash. So he just looks, he looks locked right now. Yeah, my favorite stat of all the numbers he put up 'cause he had a lot of good ones. Was the one turnover. That said oh, one turned 31 points. We know that he said that in his warehouse every night. The ten rebounds, we know he can rebound really well for. But the turnover to me speak how good a game he had. Especially when you consider how he was scoring the ball..

"With the ball, they took some ill advised shots, and it didn't matter. And they got, I mean, they just, they're on another planet right now. It's like I said, we're kind of pinching ourselves like, you know, you don't want to wake up from whatever this is, because it just, it's so hard. It's just so hard to fathom, you know, from where they were earlier in the year that they're so much better than all of these teams that they're playing right now that they don't even have to go in with an a effort and they're killing them. And that's the scary part about what they're able to do at this point. I mean, it looks as if they're like a fighter who takes a couple of really hard punches to the jaw and looks over this corner and says, we got to end this now. Okay. And then they just beat the crap out of teams. I mean, Deangelo Russell is a good player. He missed 5 out of 6 shots he took from the field. Carl Anthony towns is a legitimate all star. One of the best centers in the game. He was a non factor for most of the night. Anthony Edwards former number one in the top pick. He had a stretch where he was really, really good, but he lasted maybe three, four minutes. When you are, again, they are, again, and I keep saying this, they are snatching souls every single game at the hour of their choosing. They're not going to wait till the first, second. They're going to pick when they're ready to take your soul. They're going to take it. And they're not asking any questions. They're just going to take it. And there's nothing that teams have been able to do about it. Which to me is my point because for the most part, this is the same team we saw back in November, December just couldn't do anything consistently other than could be inconsistent. That was their consistency. That ain't the case now. Again, they're on a different level than everyone they're playing right now. Everyone. Completely and like we were saying with Jimmy earlier, like you look around and you see other teams playing other teams like, fine, you haven't gotten to play some of these yeast competitors in a while. Obviously last time you did, you played, you know, the good game against Brooklyn, but they're not one of the top four seeds. You just destroyed Philly, but it was without hard and you still beat him by 48 points. Of course you killed them. But you haven't played them recently to see how you stack up, but you're watching them play other teams you've played, and they're struggling and losing, and then you're beating these teams by a hundred points. "Like, you look at the top 5, you know, like, you know, 5 betting favorites, and he's not one of them, which blows my mind, so I don't get it all. I'm just getting it at all. I'm surprised he's not in the top 5, but when you look at what Memphis coach is doing with one of the youngest teams in the NBA and they're pretty much going to lock a bed number two spot. You look at what Monte has done in Phoenix and grant a Phoenix was already going to be a good team anyway. But the fact that you have been without the catalyst of that team, Chris Paul for so long and yet you're still winning. To the point where Devin Booker, they started to kind of gain some traction. That's kind of a long shot slash dark horse MVP candidate. Those are the two guys that I think are have the strongest, I think arguments against email, but damn. I mean, the image has had a great great year. Particularly how they've gone from where they were to where they are now. I mean, that stretch where they won like 9 in a row. Something that no rookie coach in a Celtic history had done since. I think like Casey Jones. So in all the way that he is helped transform Tatum and Brown and Al to be more of a catch and shoot guy and rob went from like a God jumping after every shot at him to a guy that plays defense like a free safety. Whatever again. The tragedy and you know the tragedy and it all. It's like your child is sick and you want to know what this is going on. Like I want the scan now. I want to now. I don't want to wait till tomorrow. I want it now. You need the results right now. Now now now. I agree with you. There's a few good candidates, but just because email isn't going to win doesn't mean that what he's done this year isn't extremely impressive. And locally, I think it's definitely more something that locally, I think people see more than on the national scale. But certainly has taken the team in a roster that looked just down and out and flipped it a one 80. So credit to him. He'll finish with some votes, some share in some capacity. He's not going to win the whole thing, but that's okay. I mean, that's something to build something to build off of, and you know, next year. Easily be a favorite to win. Well, you know, the other thing too, that coach of the year award is almost like the kiss of death. When you think about the guys who win that award and what happens to year after or a couple years after they pretty much fired. I mean, look at this. Everyone's mood not panicked right now. You know, John, you know what it is, John, you know what it is. It's the fact that they've been on such freaking good role of late that it's like, they see this as a speed bump. "There you go. That's as simple as it is. So if you're concerned of guys not being able to play due to COVID and all that stuff, then you may say that's not the case. So I don't know why out hopefully whatever else is going through this and do serious, but it's not like he's going to be there tomorrow. Yeah. Well, but my thing is this and I keep coming back to this because I think it's so important. I'm not all that concerned about what the hell happens between now and the next week. Because this team is built right now as a constructive to be a lethal postseason threat. And anything that I can do if I'm the coach to minimize the wear and tear on my guys at this point in the season. I'm going to do that because again, you need this crew ready to rock and roll come playoff time. And if that means catching an LO two before that, so be it. It's that because right now, if we're being honest and real about it, this team has a legitimate shot of getting to the finals. Something that I did not think was the case a month ago. But they have a legitimate shot, but they need things to align a certain way for that to happen. And part of that alignment is making sure all their guys are healthy, come playoff time. Not come, you know, that Friday night game in Indiana or Wednesday night game against the Miami. But playoff time. So that to me has to be where their heads are locked in and focused on at this point. I'm just scanning for more rob stuff. I think the joke is all is going to give us all we're going to get on it. Yeah. He's giving us an elbow up more than most. I'm surprised he said that much. I wish he truthfully, I wish he said less. I really do. I was like, damn it. Why did you have to be that honest? You could have just said, oh, we'll see. But you know what, you know what, John, this is the thing I was thinking about this as a talking. This is an opportunity for email to show a little bit of his coaching muscles as well. Because if there's a scenario where he's missing one or two of his pigs. And they're between now and the end of the regular season. And they're able to win like, you know, four or 5, 6 of these last games. The case for him is being coach of the year becomes so much stronger because there's no way that a team that has built the way they are, which I think is built for the playoffs. Should be missing key guys and still finding ways to win 'cause their schedule down the stretch is tough. I mean, they play one of the toughest schedules for the remainder season. I believe it's one of the 5 toughest schedules out there. So for them to find ways to succeed with key guys, actually this third toughest schedule. For them to find ways to keep winning, if they're going to be without key guys. Kudos to them. Kudos to email. Yeah, look, I mean, the E may thing I agree with you a 100%. He's at like, he's the coach of the year. It should have happened. Like, but he's coaching. He should be, but he should be. "It's never done for it to be the one seat, but that Brooklyn team is just, they're not your typical 8 seed, right? Are 7 seed, whatever they are. They're much theoretically should be much better than that. So that's an interesting one there. But yeah, that's your playoff picture right now. And the Celtic, listen, nobody wants to play the Celtics. Crazy, crazy as it sounds. No team wants to play the Celtics. The way they play defense right now, who is looking forward to that matchup. Nobody, nobody, if they can continue the intensity on the defensive end. And like you said, they didn't even play that well tonight. And they still just cruise to victory. I mean, they just, they just rip your heart out. You know, it's not even like it's not even like a close hard fought game. She's like, yeah, we're going to win by 20. And we're going to go up by 20 and second quarter, and we're just going to keep it that way. It's crazy. It's I can't figure it out. I just can't, it's just, and what's funny is the same feeling you had watching this team in the beginning of the season, which is like gross, can't wait for them to blow it. This is just, here they go again. All of this awful stuff and it just, you know, it just felt like Groundhog Day. Now it's completely. It's Groundhog Day, but a different time. I'm stunned when they're in a game that's less than 20 at this point. Like, I'm stunned. And what's amazing is too, is like, even when they do, there'd be an old version of the Celtics that get a double digit lead, and you know the other team's coming back and possibly winning. Now, every time they do this, they get up 20 something. They let a team creep back. Minnesota hit all those threes. He didn't even call a timeout this time. He was like figure it out. And they did, and then they're back up 24 and it's ball game. I mean, the arms length the whole time. But between Utah and Minnesota, they never let these guys off the mat. As soon as they got the lead, with Utah, they did it in like ten seconds. Early in the first. In this, in the second quarter, they raced out to the lead, and that's it. They just kept them there the whole time. Unbelievable. It's unbelievable. It is. And again, it's just hard to, it's hard to imagine being in this position. And granted the players, I'm sure they are sure they believe in themselves in that in that sense. But I can't find anyone who truly thought that this would be a situation that they would be in. I mean, even anybody who was up on the team or not as down on the team as others were, I don't think anyone thought they would be talking about Eastern Conference, you know, a number one seed going down the stretch here. So it truly is something maybe they'll finish in the one seat, maybe they won't, but either way, the fact that they're as of today, have the one seed, it's baffling. But here we are. "Everybody needs a little calm right now in their life. The execution is off. Everybody needs a little. I'm not even going to fire it up, but you guys have heard it. You know exactly. And I don't know at what point, you know, he's still every once in a while, just goes through those little mini stretches where he pulls up and everything is splash splash splash. Right. But then overall I mean the wild shots. How many times did he drive into the land with no idea? He had two assists that were blind. He just, he looked up last second and thank goodness somebody was there and he threw it to him. You know, one was the Romeo dunk. He had no he's doing that thing where the head down into the paint with no objective. It's just his flow. His whole she is off since his return and his handle is a mess. He's out of sync with everybody. He's firing passes out of bounce, but not only that, like he's passing and then the guy doesn't know if he's coming towards him, which is screen or he's going to go away. Everything about him looks off, like nobody is playing well around him. It feels like something's just his whole flow is off at this moment. And you could chalk that up to rust, but like, that's the stuff we used to see from him before where we're like, does this guy know how to play basketball? You know? And like, you know, he's had a couple moments where, again, the shot looks lights out. It doesn't look like the hammy's bothered. How about the free throws? He's so he's so confused right now. Like, you know, like, he's just really out of control out there. They've lost a couple games on free throws now too. Warriors and this one, I would include, you know, they missed 5 of their first 6 into the fourth and a game where they were down by 7 into the crunch time there. The overall numbers I don't have in front of me, but E to 13 from ground in particular is just inexcusable. That is another thing that there's just no explanation for. How are you missing key free throws in a game? None of these guys are really weak links on that. That spot and.

"You know what I mean? This is the game where you should have needed to join. Gave up 12 and 19 shooting in the fourth. I mean, that would not have been aided by Johnson at all. The defense down the stretch there was just an absolute disaster. And that's where a game becomes an embarrassment giving up a split like that. I think you said 34 points in the four Jimmy. I mean, that is something that just no matter what personal you have out there, no matter who's missing that's just an embarrassment to happen in especially a crunch time quarter. I bet the net rating on this team in the fourth is still a disaster. These last two games, they weight gain execution on that end just shows a lack of focus and commitment right now. That's what we're talking about with defense, especially with the personality you have in here, lankford, Brown, robbed down the stretch is enough there. The blocking shots and they're giving up easy putbacks. They went and guys run out and find shooters, they'll even a guy wide open on the corner while Monroe's posting up Treacher. This is just out of control here in just a week ago. It was looking pretty good against Cleveland and Philadelphia. I couldn't Robbie effective tonight, John. "Here's the thing about ten day contract players, you got a plan. In order to see what they can do. To me, the way this game was playing out, particularly in the fourth quarter, where you couldn't get anything. You got the 45th best score in India history on your bench. I would have thrown him out there. Especially against this particular team, which I don't see any defensive lockdown stoppers on the timber pups. This is, I guess. I'm doing a game. Three minutes. Just to see what he could do. Can I I do have to say this because I've largely been quiet about the Joe Johnson thing. I'm really confused by the people that think that Joe Johnson's NBA existence last past this ten to tenth day of this contract. I don't see it. You know what I want, John? I want to see him see enough of him to double down on your point. Yeah. I want to see him out there enough to where I'm like, oh, guys, this is a train wreck. How many days we got three? "I think having both of those two on the court, maybe not necessarily together, but being able to play them a substantial amount of minutes. It's been huge for them. Anthony Edwards has taken a leap defensively this year too. Like he's a bit, he falls asleep a bit off the ball from time to time and makes some mistakes, but he is engaged when he needs to be engaged. I think is the best way to put it. Carl towns has been fine on defense. I think Patrick Beverly has been pretty good to the level that you would expect Patrick Beverly to be defensively. Like they have actual tone setters on defense like Joshua kogi has missed like a little bit of time here and there. Like I don't think he's played a crazy amount of minutes so far, but like he's a tone setter, defensively on the ball. Now that they have actual real defenders that have matured and developed around Carl towns and Anthony Edwards and D'angelo Russell, I like the way that this team looks. Like I think they actually make sense now. Well, mark this down NBA media world. I believe I gotta say, I think you're the first voice to say Minnesota Timberwolves playoff. So that needs to be remembered if the Timberwolves go to the player. So I'll say this. I think that bob vulgaris said it a while ago. And honestly, I was like, bob, you're fucking crazy. I was like, he said it like in the second week of the season. And then they went on like that big losing patch or whatever. And I didn't believe it at all. I was like, how is this going to work? "And i it just felt like with an ally stuff was really starting to change for him I think if you're getting that version of and it's less about the scoring for me like even it doesn't have to score twenty three points per game for me like that's if you do awesome just playing that level of defense like totally changes things for me because like you mentioned going from having like last your aunt liability on defense that for for stretches of the season And it was hard with with the way that the ross was constructed If you're getting even just like an average defensive wing at six six who's like creating stuff off the ball and and engaged like that completely changes the projector Trajectory from for of them for me. Because think you can say yes like the ski might be a little funky and cats not the greatest defender ever and delos pretty an end to too bad but like you look at the the rest of the rosser and if it's not liability and you have those guys on court like i can feel fine about the being average on defense and with how good i feel about what this offense could be this year like i think that is a big boon in like i i kind of. I'm working on a season preview for the entire league. And i started writing my minnesota section the other day bank on them being a playoff team but like i also think that that is kind of doing this you. I think they can be a playoff team If they start to have some of these things play out the way that it looks like they might I definitely feel optimistic about and like you said about aunt lake realistically he could pass. Who is by the end of the year this year. I think he's already there. He's quoting he's i think he's already better. I think the way that he draws defenders just tells me that he gets. He's just a better player like offensively than dancer. Russell is and obviously their skill sets on the same. So it's always find it hard to be like like if you came up to me like all right. He's a solid three point shooter and then aunt's like percentage wise not great but he is like an okay shooter for sure in la taurean. Prince is really good jane. Mcdan- is a solid especially from the coroner's then cat read percentage. Wise probably isn't as good but nausori can shoot the ball to And supposedly jared. It's very hard to keep up with but We've seen it for small stretches and it's works. I think we're at the point where we know. Okay katyn and drop is not always great and part of that too is on the point of attack defense. But where are you out with the defensive changes so far. We're only one game in. But how are you feeling about roster construction-wise in the way that everything's everything's levin just conceptually in your head like going into it where you out with him. "Men's Olympic basketball is up to eat. Well, um, it didn't start off well over the weekend, they had their first exhibition game against Nigeria in they lost What? 92 87. Team USA goes down, So we got that going for us. Wait a minute. Isn't Kevin Durant on that team? The guy that carry the Brooklyn Nets on his back. Of course. Kevin Durant. Bradley Beal Bam out of bio. Draymond Green Game. Dollar is on their Jayson Tatum. They've got a pretty good lineup. So they lost to Nigeria. Wait a minute. "Are seven and twenty four and and it was just the a recipe for disaster for rubio because he's always been kind of player who feeds off of other players like he needs other stars around him so that That he can set them up. And when karl anthony towns is out for as long as he was when daniel russell was out like there just wasn't the safety valve. There wasn't the players. Take the attention away from rubio and so it was a lot easier to focus on him and then he he shot it poorly. He was turning the ball over it. Just all these things that you don't normally see from him so I think you saw him start to prove as the season got going and got into the second half and he he add some moments but This offseason is going to be huge for him because he will have a full summer to go through. Its entire program. He will be able to come into next camp in great shape and ready to go. And i think he'll be motivated because he'll be in the last year of his deal on whether it's with the timberwolves are another team. He will you know he'll be ready to kind of show that he still is worthy of another contract The the decision that the wolves have to make is. He's really like the veteran leader on the team. I mean you have towns and russell who are going to be going into their seventh years so they should be ready but but rubio is kind of the conscience in the locker room Towns loves him. Anthony edwards just thinks the world of him and so the wolves will have to kind of determine. Do they want a rookie around as much for what he can do for these young guys as for what he can do on the core or do they look to move him and and and see if they can get more shooting see if they can get more defense around the kind of their core..

"Yeah no those are the those are all such great points and you know something that i go off that as well. I mean you wrote about this recently in looking at the offseason for this team Obviously mean. Chris was brought in in rather an unprecedented way. I think would be a good way to put it. That's never forget when i got that notification. I was like what was happening. But yeah i mean the way that things worked out with them with the assistant. Coaching staff staying on for part of the year. I mean to close out the year It i would anticipate as you wrote to. I mean they're chris. Bench is going to be building out his coaching staff. So like And looking at that. I mean how. How do you envision that playing out. Because i think that's it's just so weird again. It's so weird. How that happen. Yeah i mean like it will be interesting to see who he He brings on You know they. There are several of. The of the coaches are going to stay aboard including pablo christiani. Kevin hanson is a player development guy. Who's pretty well. Thought of joseph blair Is another coach that stain on from the last staff half now. All of those guys had some familiarity with chris finch either worked with him or played in organizations with him in the past on things like that. So i think he's going to add a couple more on you know maybe on the player development side and certainly on his main benches well. There's been a lot of talk of mike in nari from detroit who he. Who's chris known going back to their denver days and an and so. I think they will look at a few other names as well but like i don't think there's going to be kind of like the super experienced head coach former head coach. Mike brown a mike. D'antoni dave yeager kinda that you see in other places who Who are going to come here. I think they're going to be probably more likely that it'll be a little on the younger side more traditional assistance Maybe you know maybe one one spot for someone who is really a developmental coach and they wanna see how that person kind of response to the nba environment in any developed. That person do kind of a more stable or a more experienced assistant. So i think you're going to see some of that. Ultimately what i do think is like this is going to be chris. Benches show like this is his his roster he or his his schemes his strategies. And he's going to want to kind of have people who can help skill development and talent development that way but then when it comes to the xs and os and the strategy of it. I think you're gonna see. Chris kind of really have just a huge influence on that area. Yeah yeah definitely. I think it's a great way to put it like it's it's funny to even in trying to understand the way that the teams are built up so i cover the pacers like it obviously very different this year but looking passers when moments head coach there are really only four guys on the bench and you can go looking at just comparing miami..

They drafted anthony edwards one leandra bomar morrow twenty-three made a trade with the lakers that ultimately landed them jade mcdaniels at twenty eight. I give him a b plus on draft night and primarily digging them because they didn't take the top guy in my board. lamelo ball. Tony what did you think about draft on draft night. And what do you think about it. season later or. I don't remember what grades i gave. I know i gave a nor gave him a high grade For for anthony edwards But i'm going even higher. I'm going to give them in a For the address of our anthony which has been I think he's gonna turn out to be better than we thought. I think these He his rate of improvement over. The season has been Very very very noticeable. I think he's improved The one thing that that i want worried about going into the draft was his ability off the dribble. And i don't think he has any issues off the dribble He's he's a dog. I love how he gets after it. you know but one of the reasons why i wanna give minnesota at a is because of the practice jay mcdaniels You know he's he's exactly what i thought he was. "So it's air air but ryan's Inexperienced head coach and all the players on the floor are even more inexperienced than he is. So surprise. Surprise teams foreign eleven.
