"But i have doubts because it's the preseason right we will see we will see you know the promise it's like i could say boston could make the conference finals. But i don't think that that's a hot take in the slightest. Don't think that would be a surprise. So i this was another question i struggled with. I will say the mavs are the team that made the most sense me. Only because they've not been out of the first round. They have italian luca. The west is in a weird spot because of the nuggets. Clippers have their injury issues so that was to me. I think the team that if they made the conference finals some people will be like whoa. They're utterly here. But i think things could break right for them so that was kinda my one that i thought fit the criteria for this question. I'm i'm honestly just disappointed in you. I gotta say really the ma- come on man the mavs. Gimme gimme a heavy hitter. Gimme gimme no one thought. The next we're going to be good. I thought the hawks are going to be okay. Because they signed bogey they signed gallo cetera. I was not expecting an eastern conference finals run and we already kind of covered the sons which were a surprise. But you know. I guess you could see it coming. Because they added c p a little bit Particularly during the regular season was high on the sons. I i know yeah. I know you're so so the mavs our team for this question. The team that's going to shock. I mean it's not going to be the bulls it's not going to be the woes. It's it's not going to be the cavs we can. We can we. Can you circle back for two seconds. This was not my team. But the timber wolves They're not honorable mention for me here. Why why do you have an honorable mention for literally every single email. We get on his show. Because you never know. When my i i never know when my co host is going to drop the mavs and then i got a carry the show on my back. You could be big deal. Mavs made the conference finals. A big deal now. They have luca but right now right now. They're worst team than they're they're probably the fifth or sixth this seemingly conference okay but And then making the conference. Finals isn't a big deal. In that scenario. I i've i saw. What luca did gets the clippers and that was without. Kp so i see the path man see the path. It's just not he. Also you also saw what happened when p played right. Kp is going to be better than yes. Okay okay so the okay. So the wolves. It's just like cats talking about the wall street two seconds. I can see the wolves making the playoffs again because they have the case. Basically carl towns makes the nba team. Looks like a top ten talent entirely possible Anthony edwards takes a leap played in every game last season as a rookie without a training camp. Look pretty good looks okay in preseason just an absolute freak.

"Last season at the age of twenty three the six best offensive player in the nba. That that's actually incredible. What an incredible feat for trae young. Think it's why people get so excited about him is his ability to generate offense in multiple ways is just so impressive. He also was ranked as the fifth worst defender in the entire mba last season. I'm not sure. I've ever seen such a gap between a player's offensive production and defensive production and i know off the top of your head. You're going to say. Oh what about nikola jokic or or luggage for example. Aren't those examples of that steph. Curry or whatever. But i went back and looked and yeah. Those guys aren't great defenders steph. Curry actually is a bad But they're nowhere near as bad as trae young as so even though trae young is absolutely elite on the offensive end to say. He's a liability on defense. I think doesn't state at high enough fifth worst defender in the nba. The only other like big time player. If you wanna even consider him a big time player that was sort of in that. Realm was daniel russell out of the minnesota timber wolves right now as far as bad. You know defensive player and so no. I don't think there's like lots of players say that gap. There's huge gaps between players offense and defensive abilities absolutely. But i don't think there's a player right now in. The nba has a bigger gap between the two. And that that's to me where young is going to have to improve to get into the tier one status. You're superstar can't just put up points and not get you and then get you trashed on the defensive end. And and that's just what the numbers and the analytic show. Darko shows the same thing as far as the defensive Inabilities right now. I don't ever expect trae young to be a great defender. But even if he could move into out of like the top one hundred worst defenders instead of top. Five if you could get there. He's tier one all the way because of his elite absolutely elite offensive numbers at six. Some people are gonna scream. It's evan mobely. Cleveland yes. He's a rookie. No he's not anywhere in the same realm as trae young i right now. He won't be for several years. Yes this is a massive prediction on my part about what mobely can be down the road. But look evan. Mobile has the tools to be an mba superstar. Someday he has the tools to do it on both offensive and defensive end general managers and their recent survey just predicted. He would be the best player in five years among the nba. Rookies a unicorn size. Link that judy can score from anywhere on the floor can defend. The ran can rebound. He's not strong he's got pushed around. You already. saw that sort of on opening preseason night for him but you could also see the talent that was there ended up. I think with ten points. Eight rebounds couple of blocks for mobile in about twenty minutes a game. I think that's probably going to be like a fair number of where we're going to see evan mobely for year one but his feel for the game is understanding of the game is versatility his size. Comparisons to chris bosh palca soul. I think he could be better than those guys. Those guys are both nba hall of famer someday and so again. Not projecting evan mobile what he'll do next year but what he would do at the same age of twenty three or twenty four. I think nobody deserves to be ranked here at six. All right. we're gonna take another break and talk about bill bar and then we're gonna talk about picks one through five in our next segment and it wouldn't be an nba big podcast without talking about built bar. There have so many dishes delicious flavors. They have something for everybody. We talked to build our fans definite passionate about their faves. Don't know the bill maher flavors while you're missing out. There's coconut jerry garcia raspberry brownie double chocolate salted caramel strawberry orange cookies.

"You know in the middle of the season And to go back really quick. I forgot to mention joel. Embiid joel embiid is like right there with cat and yogesh force but if i had if you had to ask right off the top yet or gas right off your head. What is the best. That a karl anthony towns minnesota Team his shot from three in terms of like ranking in the league as a whole team is probably like twani. Fourth nineteen nineteen is the closest light. Year was though i think it was two years ago again and yet like dario roco season. I think it was it was eighteen. Nineteen shot that well but then okay the next closest twenty and then you have twenty four twenty twenty nine. So it's like yet. They have not shot. Well from three hat was legitimately like kicking out to try beyond graham and josh for doing force base wing defender trevor younger graham. Yeah so it's it's been really bad And this team has shooters on it. Like diangelo russel to go down. The the positions the point guard. St low is a great shooter. Patrick beverley career. Like i think thirty nine percents shooter from deep jordan mclaughlin as their point guard which is like a steal in mybookie got. We got him on a steel of a contract. He's a solid three point shooter and then aunt's like percentage wise not great but he is like an okay shooter for sure in la taurean. Prince is really good jane. Mcdan- is a solid especially from the coroner's then cat read percentage. Wise probably isn't as good but nausori can shoot the ball to And supposedly jared. Vanderbilt's been getting up like five hundred. Three's a game or a practice per day deposi. it looks better. Dane moore tweeted something about not looking good and jury was not got some flack from some from some players. But i don't think i'm not gonna even count on like the development of guys getting better but i think there's just like actually some shooters on this team now which is something we haven't really had I just wish our shooters could play defense. But that's a topic for another time. You know definitely And like like you mentioned. I think this is the first time where we're going to see. I mean i've hoping more national headlines because that would mean the timber wolves are gonna be people are paying attention but I feel like this year. If we're seeing an uptick in any statistical category it's in cats assists because like this is the first time where i felt like. Wow okay Has somebody that consistently kick out through impasse. Doing just there are other. There's somebody else's grabbed the other than his own. Obviously not to take from like low but Granted like just looking at the role players on the seem like there are guys who you can count to actually play their role and do consistently. Because that's been the big problem. The last couple of years. I guess that's another good hinge point to damsel russell especially you know in talking about benson trades and whatnot I we can talk about benson's of gangs don't feel like now but i feel like i've talked about. Ben simmons like seventeen times this past nibble. Yeah with dio. Where are you at with him coming into the year because he's such a i don't wanna say divisive belykh obviously bag twitter like well. You know you can tween heavy like back. Stepped a seventeen footer. In it swishes. Okay cool but like there's a lot more to it than that. And i also think some people go way too far on delos well I don't think enough gets made out of how good of a playmaker deal is even if he is not a consistent rim pressure threat..

"Club. Sports in obviously famously lebron james agent now a lot of other guys and so they meet average his house. Josh harris the managing partner of the sixers is there. And so it's one thing for a player to send word through their agent to the gm who then talks to the owner that they don't wanna play at a certain place anymore. This was a lot more on the nose. This was ben simmons looking josh harrison. The eye and saying i've done this chapter is done. And that's with their amaury in the room. Ellen brand doc rivers. They thought that a deal would get done by the time. The draft had come and gone so then that doesn't happen and so you know now what you're seeing. It's a staring contest where each side is trying to essentially wrestle over leverage. You know the sixers would love nothing more than for ben to fake it until they all make it. If that makes sense come back up your trade value by playing well and trust us. We're going to put you on a spot. Will the problem is there's no trust and he's not in the state of mind clearly to come back and play that kind of a role or has any interest in so he chooses to stay away when i reported last week that he's done playing with joel embiid and that it's nothing personal but that he just simply doesn't see a fit anymore. You're trying to up the temperature. Try to compel their more to finally given and say i'm gonna say uncle amid trade you for whatever bag of chips comes my way and that's why in terms of this staring contest component. You know this thing is is certainly an alzheimer. So do you buy this idea that it really is just about a fundamental difference in basketball styles and he are just not a good fit or do you think there is in fact some personal conflict between the two like if you had to point to a primary thing that's driving all of this. Is it that fundamental basketball difference or is it something else i mean. This is not the sexy answer. I just think it's a two part thing in their layered together. It's the personal dynamic between ben and joel but it is basketball. It's the way joel. Plays in stark contrast to the way that ben plays and the kind of talent that he brings to the table accentuates benz weaknesses at his core. I think it is about basketball now. Personality wise you know the jimmy butler saga to me you know. Joel and jimmy butler her two alpha males who are wired very similarly. That is the kind of guy the joe wants to play with. Jimmy butler is on his way out of philadelphia and on his way down to south beach as joel just kind of came out and shared with the world last week. He basically blames. Ben simmons for jimmy butler not coming back to philly. Jimmy was you know we want to but that's a lot of baggage to get through for two players. You know what i mean. And that's where. I do agree with ben. I think this thing is a wrap in terms of them accomplishing anything together. But it does At its core it is about basketball. We recently saw daryl. Morey compared simmons off season to aaron rodgers. Famous off wash last night a player leave their team to victory. Where thousand pounds of digital inquiries spill on how much. He would never play for that team again. So look every situation is different. The we have a lot of optimism that we can make it work here and you know sort of suggesting that he's going to be back in and doing his thing again. If no trade happens. I read that as there are more. He just trying to present a certain image so that he can have more leverage in trade negotiations sure. Is that your read on the situation or is there actually a possibility that they're going to work these things out no. I don't see the possibility. I don't blame daryl for kind of reaching for that cop if you will There are threads there that are accurate. The one distinction. Aaron rodgers has won a championship with the packers. The routes between aaron and that community and that fan base and the love affair that has taken place is just wildly different than benz experience in philly. And that's where the two cops completely separate. It's becoming pretty evident. That ben has not enjoyed a lot of his time in philly so the love affair component that you think about with aaron rodgers is not there the connection and the roots are not there as saying based on your reporting at this moment. What seems like the most likely way for this whole thing to resolve. Whereas ben simmons most likely to be playing whenever he puts a uniform back on well i mean. That's the compelling part of this things that we talk about the personal dynamics we talk about all the subplots and everything and man unders you keep getting to the nuts and bolts of it from a basketball transaction trade. Talk standpoint in for me anyway. You still end up. Shrugging your shoulders and just saying i don't see it. You know recently Friend and colleague. Keith bond pay. The philly enquirer had reported that the timber wolves pacers cavaliers pistons raptors and spurs where the most recent teams still inquiring about ben. You have some real motivation on the timber. Wolves side to get a deal done. You got a guy heading their front office as such in gupta who came from houston has a relationship with darryl a good relationship. You maybe that aids the talks. You know the pacers come to mind you know. There's some trade chatter out there in general about malcolm brogden and how long he's going to be a pacer. But the damian lillard scenario. I kind of becoming convinced. That's the only one. And i know. Daryl pretty well like. That's really the only one that i think is a no brainer for darrell. But the problem is neil. O'shea shea the blazers. Gm is trying to salvage. That situation dame has changed his tune in portland at least for now. All those things for me lead to the idea that i don't see a trade coming anytime soon and we get surprise all the time in this league. Maybe i'll be wrong the right now. I don't really see a substantive leader in that clubhouse the other thing honors we haven't gotten into though there amaury at the end of his rockets tenure did a trade that to this day. I know for a fact. He's not a fan of and knows that he shouldn't have done chris. Paul to the thunder and exchange for russell. Westbrook in hindsight is a terrible trade. That matters to me here. Daryl's as competitive as any executive and league. And i think the idea that he is going to go from a big trade like the chris. Paul westbrook deal to ben simmons deal where he takes a bath because of the pressure applied by ben and gets taken again in a trade. I don't see it happening. Your miles go. "And now you're set for twenty years or you can be the spurs and make the perfect trade for quiet leonard but then he wants to leave so listen. I'm not. I'm not You know traversing some insane. New ground here to say a lot of luck goes into it. And i understand. Why the gm's who you know a massive fixing. I think most of the first round picks me moved or not even good ones are doing it because they want to get as many bites at the apple as possible but there really is no one way in the one way is to get lucky because not even the number one picks league or guaranteed to turn into mvp's in superstars etc like. The really is just no great way. And that's why sometimes bothers me a little bit when teams get criticized. Four building around young corn. Why are you going after. Draft picks or vice versa. Just listen there's no there really is no method because you have to tank the right ear out this guy pans out etcetera like. There's no good way. This is a question that is its own podcast. And we're talking about markets in. Are you a free agent destination blah blah blah blah blah. There's just a million different factors that go into all this stuff but real quick talking about luck which is super important cannot be overlooked. It's like if you're the nuggets. The clippers drafted jerome robinson thirteenth overall into draft. Was that two thousand eighteen. Yeah two thousand. Two thousand eighteen draft jerome robinson just leaving michael porter jr. there for the denver nuggets to take. So it's like michael. Jordan could be on the clippers right now. The clippers could have had shay and michael junior from that draft. If you want to think about that for two seconds just it's absolutely wild and they would have presumably been able to keep one of them in the paul. George trade and the clippers are just completely unfair juggernaut right now if that's the case so it's like they got a little bit unlucky there gets lucked out. They got puerto junior. They just signed to this max extension. Who looks who looks wonderful. Offensively when healthy luck is you can't overlook but row so getting into what i wanted to kind of put my twist on liam's question here i think there are. You could say seven genuine rebuilds taking place right now. Eight if you include the timber wolves which i don't because they have to mid-career vets on max deals and they wanna win right now so i'm not going to call them rebuilding team even though they're super young so the teams that i'm looking at right now are the thunder. The rockets the pistons. The magic. the pelicans the cavs and the spurs those are the teams that i think are in full-on maybe not full on because you could debate certain things here and there but i think these teams are rebuilding so out of all these situations. I want you to tell me which three fan bases should be. The most excited about what has already happened. In terms of you know the assets that they have and the players that are on their roster and just what the future might bring just like which situations are should fans be most excited about out of those rebuilding situations so even though i think this one is the highest risk high reward. I think number one is the pelicans. Just because you have zion. There you have brandon ingram like you have to real..

"Josh giddy gets a tier three point. Five designation little bit surprised that they didn't take jonathan commingle at six they take giddy instead he thrives with the ball hands but so does shea be interesting to see how they balance that out. He really did play pretty well in australia. In the pro league. Last year he gets a tier three point five designation and then you've got a ton of tier five guys for the thunder. These are young players but whether they're going to amount to anything in the nba's questionable the two guys off their roster that i am going to consider as maybe being able to melt more than the ranked right now is lucas dort who is a tier four guy but you know frankly probably played closer to tier three the skepticism on door is. He's doing it on a really really bad basketball team. The analytic sort of hold that against. Am scouts sort of held it against him as well would he be able to play the same way if he was on a better quality team he gets tier four designation but certainly can make the argument for tier three for him and then poku man. I don't know what to say about poku. Sometimes he looked like there's not a tear six but he looked like a six player sometimes. He looked like some nights at tier two player. Like an all star only nineteen years old. Not sure what he's going to be he gets to your four ranking which frankly is generous giving that he was ranked by lebron as the second worst player in the nba. Last year. statistically so. It's a little bit generous. you're hoping that adds some strength. Continues to improve and again. Those flashes are really impressive as well but the thunder really going to build on this ranking by having a ton of future draft picks and continuing to draft young players and and likely having one of the worst records in the nba this year and drafting hopefully tier two worst. Here three player to add to this rosser. The future so thunder are going to go up there. Still heavily in the rebuild right now but you can see from what they've done so far in the rebuild they're a little bit behind some of the other teams just because they haven't been able to land that tier tier two or tier one talent quite yet. Minnesota timberwolves are. They're tied at twenty one and frankly this is impressive feat for timber wolves considering that they don't have karl anthony towns de ngelo russell in these rankings. Because they're both twenty five years old so they did not count for the rankings. I'm if they did they would be right up there at the very top of the rankings. So you've got anthony edwards. Who really came on the second. Half of the season received a tier two designation before the draft is still there to tier two now again. I don't think the edwards is making an all star team next year but in years three through five. I think you could certainly see him. I'm making that right now lethal score. Let's see what else he's able to add to his game. Jade mcdaniels gets a tier four designation. But certainly could end up playing into a tier tier three leandra bone marrow. A guy that they drafted in the twenty twenty i draft first round comes in with a tier four designation but again i could see him play into tier three down the road as well really high on him thought he played really well in spain and malinche beasley. The other guy gets a tier three designation as a starter. Excellent scorer can really shoot the basketball as well. The the wolves are are really set. They have a really interesting collection of young talent and if they play anything like they played really towards the end of last season they could make a run at the playoffs..

"Three four and five and a hippie can get up to tier three tier. Two category than memphis has the chance to be a really serious nba championship contender. And then finally the new orleans pelicans They sit there at twenty four points as well they have a tier one guy in zion williamson a guy who hasn't quite got to tier one status yet. But the way that he's played the defensive end the part that he needs to improve the way that he's played has made teams confident in that three to five year range. He is going to be a tier. one player. Could be to your one as early. As next season brandon ingram a little bit controversial gets a tier three designation even though he has made an all star team and so there is. There is the argument that he should have a tier two designation instead of tier. Three if he did you would add four points. And the new orleans. Pelicans are twenty-eight tied for second with boston celtics. The advanced analytics don't agree. Nba general managers and scouts. That i talked to were split on this. But most of them agreed he was more tier three a really good start on a team but not likely to be a pretty all star. Which would get you the tier two. I designation. the other guys are all sort of tier. Four guys on the pelicans. One guy that. I'm actually maybe a little bit more bullish on the analytics are and then the scouts were. Were nicole alexander walker. A guy who played really strongly at the end of the season for the new orleans. Pelicans i think he could easily be a tier. Three guy and i wouldn't even be surprised if he's tier three. This year i thought maybe tier four was a little bit low. I think there is some confusion about how he's going to be used for the pelicans this year. Also trae murphy. The third their draft pick in the two thousand twenty one draft really good in the summer league is your classic. Three d stretch guy. He's at a tier four ranking right now but he could end up being tier three cure lewis. Who was there twenty twenty. Nba lottery pick last year tier four designation but could could end up being tier three guy as well so still a lot of talent there for the pelicans they will lose brennan ingram. Who's twenty four years old in next year's rankings. But i i think the the. Pelicans are making the playoffs this year. So they're gonna get another lottery. Pick as well and so. Maybe they're going to be able to balance that out in new orleans so those five those three teams are tied at five. So now we're gonna jump down and look at two teams that are tied at eight. That's the oklahoma city thunder who had twenty one points minnesota timber wolves also tied at twenty one points. Thunder do it by sheer numbers. They have a whopping eleven players on their roster under the age of twenty five. That's crazy they only have one guy who's really at that star level and that shade. Guess alexander who gets the tier two designation. Only twenty. Three years old had incredible season before getting injured for the thunder last year. Certainly a guy who is going to be all star worthy down the road as a point guard..

"Of the decision making process that was happening and then finally this last week. It came to the organization's attention that gerson rodas had what was deemed to be an inappropriate relationship with a female member of the timber. Wolves staff both that member and gerson rosas are married and they had this relationship that was making people on staff increasingly uncomfortable. And when the details surrounding a lot of that relationship came really to the forefront timmer was ownership group that was already concerned with some of the complaints that they were hearing that prompted them to really feel like they had to act.

"But yeah this probably changes the equation a little bit. we'll see. I loved the idea of simmons and towns together. I think that's that makes a lot of sense for obvious. Reasons simmons and edwards. I think i think anything edwards will take time any any ball dominant perimeter player plus edwards. I think we'll take time. That's the nature of a twenty year. Old guy who frankly flashed some really interesting borderline star potential with the ball in the last twenty games of last season. can we. Do you have any parting. Simmons thoughts or can we transition to the actual minnesota timberwolves as exist. Now i would just say really quickly. I have gotten questions from timber. Wolves fans like. We really want simmons like what why. Why are the timber wolves. So in on him. And i do think it's the pairing with towns as a floor spacing big also. I do think with edwards. They see a scenario where it's edwards in towns as the fulcrum of the offense late and sit where philly ran into trouble with simmons was when they needed more out of simmons. Offensively late in fourth quarters and this way with this construction. He would not be relied upon to do that. And so he could be more effective for the timber wolves in that kind of a role than he was for the sixers as the robin to To him vs batman from an from an offensive standpoint. And that's why you are hearing the wolves be so aggressive in this trying figure out a way where other teams might be more dip in their toes into the water a little bit. I remember robin coming coming up clutch. Would batman needed him. I remember robin really stepping up to the plan. Never liked robbins out didn't like robbins. Outfits didn't like robbins color scheme. Didn't really like the whole idea of robin. Didn't like the christopher nolan origin. Story for rob robin but i do think he came up clutch. Would it matter. Let's talk about the actual timber. Wolves who by the way. The good transition about ben simmons and how he'd fit they do have one of the most creative offense of coaches in the nba increase. Finch and their offense went through right up towards league average. When chris finch took over they shot a lot more threes. They became a lot more modern. We know that he loves to invert the floor with his big men distributing and all that stuff from from the elbows great offensive coach and for the by the way for the minnesota temporal league average offense..

"I don't think that's a real. Thanks in terms of like but i'm speaking in hyperbolic but i do think that the asks on both sides the asking the offer have been woefully short in comparison from both sides. But what i what do i think the wolves would ultimately be willing to pick. What i do know is carl anthony. Towns off the table. Anthony edwards is off the table. Gerson rosa's i think has made it clear that he wants to pair simmons with russell. But then you're getting into what the heck are you really offering and so does philadelphia want the angelo. Russell is the real question. Because that's the money. Part of the thing that would make it work financially and you could actually argue that. Hey maybe russell and him bead kinda fit a little bit with the shooter in the picket roll doing those kinds of things. But i think ultimately at the end of the day you give them truth serum i think the wolves would probably be grudgingly put russell into a deal along with picks along with jada mcdaniels. Wife think is a really good young player. That will eventually turn into a starting caliber player. But maybe not there yet. And but ultimately really they've been looking for a thirteen to try and kind of give philadelphia more win now assets that that open their championship window even more. They have not been able to find that yet. And that's been the big challenge. The timber wolves no that philadelphia's is cold on the on the offers that they've gotten from the wolf so far so they've been combing trying to find third teams and so far that has been a very difficult process so when it gets down to it i could see the wolves including multiple first round picks to try and entice the sixers into saying well. We can't get damian lillard now but if we get timber wolves first round picks maybe we can eventually flip those for lillard for bill for someone else. But that's a stone deal that i'm not sure that daryl morey will have the patience for. Yeah i sent this with bobby earlier my hunches this three team deal construction and the idea that i can get the young young players and picks from team a and flip them for superstar from team. B i i don't really see one of those. That's actionable right now. And i don't think philly wants to live too long in that in between space around. I had those young players and picks there on my team. And i'm waiting for superstar ex now. That could change because the nba changes every freaking day. There could be a new unhappy superstar in two weeks..

"We're retooling right the plight way to say. But when you're the number two. Pick in the draft those four quarterbacks. I don't know how much retool that is. I have no idea what your time anymore. I just know that. I hear people laughing at the jets. Blind knows that. Sam darnold and carolinas. Doing pretty good right now and we know what happened. There and as lapsed mets fan. I'm at least vaguely aware that the mets are a complete cluster. So that's eighty six series. I was on espn. Oh i was watching that. I was watching that on the on the peleton day just loving and i mean that was the team that made me fall in love with baseball. Made me fall in love with sports. Eight year old meat did not know everything that was necessarily going on behind the scenes that i'm playing coming home from houston. I didn't really hear that stuff. I just knew i love. The mets hated the cardinals and hated the astros right. I know that the mets have had quite an embarrassing. Your this year and i know jets. Mets tends to be like a like a pair right like a lot of people are jets admits and nets. It's the nets are great right now. It hasn't been that greater. I bought it marks. I'll see you soon buddy. Thanks appreciate it all right. Let's welcome in. Because i had the wonderful idea to preview one of the most interesting teams to be in the nba. This year the minnesota timberwolves and as so often happens to poor small-market teams in the nba discussion about the nitty gritty of the minnesota timberwolves. Jerry vanderbilt geeta mcdaniels and who's going to start at the fourth and to josh cody. Learn how to shoot. How is this team. Get a balanced defense and shooting. All my god. Chris finches the coach. Remember that guy. When they hired. Chris finch would use the coach of the raptors. Let's get into the minnesota. Temporal has become a podcast will be partly about ben simmons but to help us go through that the guy who knows the is better than anyone. I know from the athletic chrissy. How are you my friend. I'm doing great. Thanks for having me. This is great. Been looking forward to this and let's have some fun. Today is a great attitude toward. I should wake up in bed. Actually wake up every day my bed. Just say let's have some fun to play like a champion today so john. About thirty minutes ago adrian asking. My colleague tweeted that ben. Simmons is not going to report to training camp firmly about as firmly as one can say this and intends to never play another game for the franchise. Whoa now on the one hand. We already kind of suspected that all that was true. We don't even know if it will end up actually being true. But i talked about the similar situation with bobby marks in the first part before will just tweet. We talked about how there had been kind of crickets on the ben simmons trade landscape for quite a while now in terms of nothing close to a deal. Now i think we should re up that discussion and it's for to you around because the timber wolves are one of the teams that i think have most seriously kicked. The tires sniffed around whatever metaphor. You want to use ben. Simmons and i think that actually makes a lot of sense for their team. I haven't seen it. I don't know that there's been a realistic trade proposal. Made by the timberwolves one that would be amenable to the sixers. But what you wrote you've written about the several times. What's the latest. Is there a latest. Where do we stand minnesota simmons. Well i would say that. I think the timber wolves have quietly been waiting for this day to happen. In terms of ben simmons camp or reporting really reemerging to strengthen the idea that simmons is in common and that any ideas that the sixers have about trying to kind of ride. This thing out and claw back some leverage are going to be a lot tougher to pull off and so the wolves have lived. This with jimmy butler. They know how this whole passion play goes and so they want to see and i think many teams around the league want to see this situation in philadelphia. Get as uncomfortable as possible as quickly as possible because to your point zach. I don't know that there is a super easy..

"Wolves the timber wolves incredible Truly and i mean it's basically a team that aside from that has not been relevant with the exception of like jimmy butler one time so scraping you know the the very outer edge of relevance at that point so i mean he was really really scary offensively. He was a total terror offensively defensively. He was kind of insane. I mean. I just wrote a whole hall of fame piece on chris webber earlier this week and it was funny because you know in my mind. I'm like well weber. Hands down was the best big man passer of his era. And then i know looked up and i was like oh shit. Kevin garnett average more assists per game than maybe the part of. It doesn't matter for a one on one game. I guess it doesn't. But i mean he could scored more than he did. He was more of a skilled score than what he's showed. I think even just because he was a really great distributor so he would be he. I mean he. He's a he's a more interesting pick. That i think ron gave credence to. He's not who i would pick but like could make crazier picks and i think you know similar to the last the last pockets. We did our to podcasts ago on. mvp ads. Like if you're looking to put odds someone where you would get the biggest return because other guys are not going to take them or because he's more of a long shot garnett would be a wonderful pick so i didn't. I didn't think ron was crazy for saying no. That's not who i'd take. But i think the degree to which he disagreed with you was was. It was a little bit out of step. I think i agree chris. I'm glad that we are Together not surprised that you agree. I'm not surprised you don't disagree with yourself. Yes yes that is very true. And what you just said about see web is really interesting because i remember k. g. has spoken about how c was like one of his models like cagey almost went to the university of michigan. Instead of going straight you're right because of the fat five and because of see web so that's really kind of interesting Just when you compare their games and just how like completely ahead of their time both of them were and you wrote a terrific piece about that. "Rob mahoney. What's going on chris. What's going on. Not it's it's the dog days of the nba. They said it could be done. They said you can't make nba content in the middle of august and challenge accepted. Because while you. And i are probably having some pretty like low key weeks. You're catching up on peak tv. I'm a. I'm i'm just doing my thing out here. I'm trying to make a really perfect chicken thigh on the grill. Patrick beverley played for three. Nba teams this week. I mean he didn't play. But so sunday he was a clipper by the end of the day he was traded to the memphis grizzlies. Which if there was ever a team that he should go to that. Embodied patrick beverley qualities as a player and as a person that grit and grind identity that the the grizzlies admittedly left behind somewhat was definitely that and he seemed to embrace that and then on tuesday he was treated again. This time to minnesota. So when he was traded to memphis it was for eric bledsoe he was traded alongside on rondo. And daniela toro. And then he was traded to minnesota for jarrett culver and watch over and go gomez which makes three teams in one week for patrick beverley so he is now a timber wolves and this got me thinking that in some ways. What happened to patrick. Beverley is like a perfect vessel to discuss a bunch of different financial competitive realities in the league. So i wanted to talk to rob about that. This week robe-like. This patrick beverley explained the world like this does the move guy making about fourteen million dollars. And last year of deal of thirty-three-year-old point guard who in a lot of ways his qualities are are are intangible things brings to a team like feist and competitive nature and you know a assumption that he's a great defender. Although i wonder if certain defend defensive analytics suggest otherwise and also like the way in which this contract has now ping pong around the league and and it's meant different things when he's on a different team for twenty four hours what what are. What do you think about this. Patrick beverley movement. That we saw this week would speaks to you. Know the differences in positions that these three teams are in certainly in terms of their competitive timetable. What their needs are what. They're looking for pat. Beverley is interesting because he's one of these players whose theoretically useful to almost anyone. Any team could use a guard. Who's going to get into the ball. Who can hit some threes. Who again as you mentioned can be feisty can be competitive. That's a guy that's useful to a lot of different teams. But he's not so useful that you don't trade him when you wanna shake things up and so that i mean that's what we're seeing. What the clippers in particular and then as we go down this chain you know. I think there are questions as to why the grizzlies participated in that trade in the first place and they became a little clearer. Once they made the second trade with the wolves to get jerry culver in the door take a take a look at him But beverly is the vessel. He's the medium for all of this stuff for understanding all three of these teams understanding a lot of of where the league is for these kind of mid salaried players right now. Yeah like it to to just take take the human factor before we get into the the trade marketing and and the salary ramifications. I will say that at each step in the process. Pat bev is expressed enthusiasm for when reggie jackson recited the clippers. He tweeted yes sir gang back and when he was delta memphis he tweeted grit and grind. Let's go all caps like he seemed psyched for that. And when he finally wound up minnesota he tweeted. Obviously maybe having learned to measure is expectations. Extremely excited let's go all all nor normal capitalization so obviously. I'm sure he's happy to be on a team that wants in minnesota and he's got a relationship with gerson roses like the the over minnesota but this is a guy who like i said in his in his. He's thirty three's in the final year of a three year contract and which will earn fourteen point three million dollars and i want to start by talking about what this means for each team involved because i think given the behavior of each of these teams you can learn a lot about a cluster of teams. That are sort of doing similar things and have done similar things over the offseason. We tend to go into these these Free agency off seasons the trade. The trade off season thinking. Everybody's going for it right. Everybody is is in the market trying to figure out if they have the pieces together. Ben simmons to get bradley beal to get a damian lillard. Do they have the cap space to sign a kyle. Lowry can they do it. And then once all that dust settles. There's a lot of just kind of like i. Would you call expectation setting. Would you call it book cleaning. There's a lot of just like dirty work. That happens at this time of year. So that teams kind of go into to the season. With all their is dot their t's cross-strait yep and you don't want to be caught in a position where you're not able to pivot if you need to. You know if you're in this space you wanna be good enough to give yourself a shot to go into the season to see what what's what with your roster to see if maybe you can over chief a little bit relative to those expectations but if you know things really start to go sideways you wanna have movable contracts you wanna have players who are going to be attractive on the market all those kinds of things. That really feels like what the clippers are doing here. Not only you know. Saving themselves the money in kind of flipping contractor contract. And i think there's there's a basketball value in trading you know pat beverley and rajon rondo for eric bledsoe like there's a reasoning their leasing ostensible reasoning It's not like the reason they're doing this deal per se you know. There's no overwhelming need to make this trade beyond. Let's try something a little different. Let's shake things up on the edges of what we've got going on while kawais out. I think that's kind of been the hallmark of this. Most recent era of clippers team building is the churn around the edges right so when they went from that last sort of irritation of won't sort that the documentation that had no expectations and wound up being like a superfund team. And you and you develop this value for guys like mantras heroin or whatever and then that sliding into the last year and the first hi lou year. I now think that they obviously are just like a lot of our money is tied up and coli and paul george and we are just going to constantly be like moving through players on the outside of those two to to create something. We think is sustainable and viable and dilu- is actually the perfect coach for that kind of philosophy because he's so adaptable because he kind of maximizes everything that he's got around him right. Definitely lose a great fit for exactly that kind of philosophy. And i mean it it helps in terms of. You're gonna go in that direction. None of these guys that they have on the edges have been essential who they are and beverly part of the biggest impact that beverly has on. A game is probably in energy alone just in terms of getting into guys heads getting into the game. I think the clippers are past the point where the rallying behind that with him specifically those days are gone as you mentioned. There was a point where he was this important figure in the organization is towed them for further identity. He's he's not that anymore. Now they have other needs they. You know that that magic has has lost its luster a little bit and they just need a little more juice on the ball. They need somebody who can dribble a little more. If you have a slightly different skill set and so then it makes sense. You know even when you do. Have a coach tyler. Who's going to swap in all these interchangeable parts. Let's give him some different parts to work with and see if the results look any different. Yeah so he gets back bledsoe. Who's obviously a more useful offensive player than rondo. And beverly. obviously he's also been a little bit in the desert like he. He has become kind of like a pin yada for like spacing maniacs in the nba where it's just like you can't have bledsoe on a team. Where like other guys need space and other guys need the ball and that i wonder whether or not he he is kind of reached the end of his rope in the nba..

"Now. I know what that feels like Man this is the question like the answer. there's a there's a there's a guy at the nba You probably can't figure out He played for the minnesota Timber wolves He's currently in cleveland. Is that kevin love. Yes it is. It was kevin love. Kevin love post rice. You Everybody exactly that's the reaction everybody says for the few people that i've told you know he's only being you here so i guess everybody know about it but what happened is He got about pass the facing the rim the rights to the right side of the block. I'm probably like at the elbow on the opposite side. So let's as let's. I tried to and get there. And he like dropped steps to hands and like i got my hands in front of him. He just dumped him and he looked at me because we had some history he looked at me. You talked about like a long ride After the game from the bus to the airport like kevin love because when kevin love with in high school. Towns, Edwards Stick up for Each Other After Timberwolves Loss to Heat

"While john. You're at the center of a pretty entertaining moment at a press conference. Recently after the timber wolves played against the heat and their former teammate. Jimmy butler can you tell us about the exchange you had with t. Wolves players anthony edwards. And karl anthony towns after that game. Yeah it was entertaining. And that's for sure. Tiffany as people may know. Carla anthony towns and the timber wolves in general have a little bit of a history with jimmy butler. He orchestrated his way out of minnesota. A couple of years ago there was no love. Lost so the timber wolves. Replaying the heat in miami. And it was a kind of renewal of the good tidings. If you might say between. Karl anthony towns jimmy butler kurlansky. Towns are really going at it. And they're gonna call technicals on jimmy. You picked up some of that. Otherwise people listen for themselves until after the game of course we have to ask our towns about that. Where where your emotions running high at that point where we're going through your head is that game came to an end there. It just so happens that he and anthony edwards doing a joint press conference and anthony edwards really kind of stepped in and took the reins mandate grown man. Let me just talking having a regular compensation gagged me me. Y'all come to see us compete. It's no competition. If we not six it was just a really illuminating kind of exchange tiffany because here's a nineteen year old rookie. Who understands that. The veteran right by his side has never been one that wants to engage in the public kind of mudslinging that jimmy butler let many players in the nba enjoy. Doing he always wants to stay above that. And anthony edwards understood. That and said i'm gonna make sure that squash this before it becomes a major thing and he did just that

2021 Lottery NBA Mock Draft

"Tony. And i are going to do our first lottery. Mock draft of the year today. We're going to go back and forth. Selecting picks to put a draft order together. Midseason is really difficult. Especially if you've looked at the standings anytime lately and seen how bunch together so many of these teams are so i went to espn's basketball power index That list teams projected records to the season through a number of statistical factors. I think it's it's probably a better look. At where teams are going to be at the end of the season then necessarily their records right now and then based off of that we put together a draft order that obviously is going to change and obviously will be affected by the nba draft lottery where the top top three teams each have a fourteen percent chance of getting the top pick and so on as you know how the draft lottery works and so doing a mock draft. This time of season tough until really until the draft lotteries over. We don't really know the order but but we have some guesses now based off of where teams what teams have played. And what's going on right now and we're going to do our best to give you a are mock draft For the twenty twenty one season. First one we're just gonna cover the lottery and we're going to let tony how the first pick in the draft and based off of that. Espn bpi has the minnesota timberwolves projected to have the worst record in the league. Which is actually pretty good news for minnesota timberwolves fans because the timber wolves have to trade pick to the golden state warriors if this is pick four thirty and so the only way minnesota keeps this pick is if they fall into top three right now. If the season were tomorrow they'd have about a forty point. Seven percent chance of keeping this year's draft pick a falling the top three in the draft. So this is no guarantee from minnesota that they'll have the number one pick they all said the number one pick last year. Tony you're on the board. Who do you select if you're the timber. Wolves with the number one. Pick in the twenty twenty one nba draft. I select the I will not need three minutes to make the selection I'm selecting k. Cunningham six hundred seventy one hundred twenty point guard out of oklahoma state and so when you When you make your draft selections you do to you draft for two things you draft For value and you draft for need and this is both in pick antibi- you pick for for for the minnesota timberwolves number one. K cunningham is the best player draft You know. I think the gap is actually close Because you know. I think jonathan coachman gain in jalen green. You know both of those guys you look at them and they have some real special tools But that being said you know k. Cunningham is is still am. I is the most shore Most short superstar player in his draft. In and i think that's a compliment to how good distract is going to be especially in the top five But you know cunningham can score at all three levels. No he's sick. He's all seven all twenty. He's he's a natural point guard You know if you're minnesota you're trying to trace the ngelo russell Like as soon as possible In you know you put k. cunningham in the backcourt with anthony edwards who i think both of us can safely say it's better than we thought he would And i think that. That's obviously a backward for the future for the minnesota timberwolves in a really nice triumvirate with karl anthony towns so Definitely you know we all rights won't always talk about. We need some some of these number. One picks the go out east but you get the number one pick in another kind of generational prospect that comes to the western conference. I'm totaling till the agreement with you. Tony i think look. I don't think. I think there's five guys that can make a claim to the number one pick in this draft and so it's not like cunningham is a lock here but because of that i would put all of these players in the same tier and then when you look at what minnesota actually needs on their basketball team. Right now i think cunningham is just the right fit for this team as well and i i see him as a really nice compliment to karl anthony towns and to ant man right now and i think that this is this will be a huge boon for minnesota. If they get this pick and you know look everybody in minnesota has got gotta be crossing their fingers at this point Like you said if they fall out of the top three golden state gets this pick. And i think golden state already one that andrew wiggins dangelo russell trade as it is but if they end up getting you know the fourth or fifth pick in the draft does as as well. It's going to be an absolute massacre on that trade.

Wolves fire Saunders, hire Finch as new coach

"We've got a head coaching change in the nba. The timber wolves have fired head coach. Saunders but i. I had a game to play brian. Sanders was coaching against the guy. He replaced tom sibito of the new york knicks. Having a great season there is game. Went down to the wire. Karl anthony towns had shot in the post to try and take the lead with thirty seconds left over his former teammate. Taj gibson but it rimmed out on a rim in madison square garden. Where the ball. Just capterra women out on sunday and that was ryan saunders. Final quarter as head. Coach of the minnesota timberwolves took over for his late father. Flip saunders in twenty nineteen thirty four year old had a string of injuries to deal with and played many many close games and the timber wolves already have saunders replacement chris finch who was a raptors assistant coach. This season has been given a multi year deal by the minnesota timberwolves to coach them full time. It's a rare move to pluck an assistant from another team. Mid season to take over job just doesn't happen very often. Usually the team that fires a head coach just moves their assistant over for a while at the very least when the full job search can be done until the full job search can be done in the off season but they had been looking at chris finch for a long time in fact he interviewed in twenty nineteen when ryan saunders was eventually given the job and finch like his good friend raptors head coach. Nick nurse coached abroad for a longtime uk. Germany and belgium then moved to the g. league and then was assistant in the nba for a decade. And he's an offensive specialist who worked with james harden in zion. Now he'll have the chance to work with karl. Anthony towns anthony edwards.

"But you do need to do it in a way. That doesn't hamstring you. One quick note. It may not just be the timber wolves pick and maybe the warriors bad as as they've shown time so we'll see where this goes it may be too top five top eight top ten whatever in a strong draft and if weisman blossoms into a star still a little early for that the a good indication so far but yeah they may have that rare ability to pull off the smoothest transition from championship era dynasty era to the next era without having to bottom out in a major way or bottom out for too long like they they kinda did bottom out in terms of record this past year but weird circumstances with klay out and all that stuff but they might be able to thread that needle. It's really tough to do. And but you want curry therefore it if if at all possible the one thing i'll say just in supportive of your your framing which is like. Let him hit free agency. he'll be thirty four at that time right. And so how many teams even if the if the fear we're we're going to lose them for agency. How many teams are going to go. Max out of thirty four year old Especially a smaller guard who. They don't generally age as well probably. There's probably not a lot of risk there unless you know say it's charlotte. Who just wants to bring him home and like you know have plant a flag. You'll put up. Put a nice little know flagging their kappa. Whatever i don't think there's a lot of danger there. I guess the other danger though is more of are you. Are you doing a disservice as it insulting in some way to steph curry to say you know what we're waiting waiting for free agency. We we just have to see where we are in hand and how you look like. Is that the wrong way to treat a guy who's much the franchises at the wrong signal to send to other stars and their agents and their families because that is. There's a political reality to chris. You do have to factor in perceptions and just wanting to show that we're the kind of franchise that always takes care of its own. I get that. Although i would argue that writing checks the total forty five million dollars in that last season is thanks enough. I mean i mean you. And i know it's never that simple. It isn't right. It isn't worth watching. Good piece by michael pena check it out over at sl dot com It's up right now on the site. You decided it was time to upgrade your outdoor deck. One Strange NBA Lottery, and What We Learned and Laughed About

"Let's start with a little draft lottery reacts from your draft, lottery experts no dogs no. Timber Wolves won the number one pick in the twenty twenty NBA draft last night after winning the League's annual draft lottery many entered the night with a fourteen percent chance of moving up to number one the same odds as the warriors and the cavs for best in the League. Best chance at that. So here's the full lottery breakdown for you guys at Number One, the wolves to warriors three Hornets four, bulls trae. Hawk six. Seven Pistons Eight Knicks Hilarious. Nine. Wizards. Ten Sons, Eleven Spurs twelve kings thirteen Pelicans and the fourteenth pick in the lorry goes to the Celtics by way of the Grizzlies. So the big winners yeah. Besides the wolves were those two teams that made significant jumps, you had MJ's Hornets moving up to eighth and trays bowls moving up from the seventh position. All the way up to number four congratulations to you is that a win in your books you'll love to see it. Somehow the Bulls aren't drafting seven I don't even remember what that's like what a summer for the Bulls Boylan, his gone second place in horse and now the fourth. Michigan tries new approaches to coronavirus testing

"Michigan was one of the State's first at bat against a huge outbreak of corona virus. Michigan hit its peak in April reporting a high of more than eighteen hundred new cases on April. The third new cases remained above fifteen hundred for days that month Governor Gretchen whitmer declared a state of emergency by April first she closed all schools throughout the academic year hospitals were overrun even as workers faced layoffs and paycuts thousands. Of medical workers came down with the virus as they struggled to treat patients, and by the end of the month, the state ranked third for the highest number of coronavirus fatalities in the country Michigan struggled to bend the curve, but Michigan came through the curve bent. Now, the question is whether Michigan can stay out of the red zone and the state has seen a few smaller waves since the worst of it this spring, there was the outbreak last month that. Harper's bar the popular haunt for Michigan State University which reopened to an unexpectedly large crowd on June. The eighth local reporters found young patrons lining up less than six feet apart, and then packing the dance floor like they would on an ordinary non pandemic night. No masks to see in that picture state health officials later link that bar nearly two hundred new infections and today Michigan posted one of its higher totals of statewide new cases for the past couple of. Months and that's concerning especially because everywhere in the country right now, educators are trying to figure out how to get education going again it's basically every state and in some instances, every school district or even school for themselves at Michigan, State, in East Lansing, they're exploring a combination strategy that's going to be new to them, and that might be new for anyone else and it starts with a spit test developed at the university by neuroscience professor named Jack Lipton this man. The kit costs around three dollars a piece, and as you can see, it's pretty simple. You can do this in the privacy of your own apartment or dorm room you put your sample in the vial with the Little Barcode you seal it in the bag and Wallah your part is over the lab at Michigan State will take your sample and combine it with others in what is known as pool testing, which maybe you've heard about recently, the idea behind pulled testing is that it can help labs do more way more with weight less instead of having each person take their own. Separate test you pull the samples from a small number of people about a dozen and you run a single test on that pool of the pool turns up positive only then do you need each person in the pool to take a test but if the pool turns up negative, you're done the single test covered a dozen people in a place where you expect a lot of negatives. Pool testing is remarkably efficient at Michigan state. They're going to step further than that. Each volunteer who takes a spit test goes into separate pools of about ten or so people so think about it like. Two teams. You're Miami Dolphin and a Seattle Seahawk, or you're Houston rocket and in Minnesota Timber Wolves choose your metaphor. The point is if two pools come back with positive results, it can only mean one thing. The lab just finds the person who belongs to both pools using a handy grid like this one, and then recommends that that person get a follow up diagnostic test. It's like playing Bingo be six Bingo you might have corona virus. That's what Professor Lipton plans to do with samples from MSU volunteers testing two thousand of them every day and referring any apparent positives for an individual diagnostic test. Now, the third and most unusual part of this plan has to do with sewage scientists are discovering that they can spot a rising rotavirus cases early on by texting. Communities, Wastewater Michigan State, professor, Joan Rose and her team have been testing the campus wastewater. Since April she says, they noticed a peak in the virus that lined up with the news about an outbreak at a college hang out which demonstrated that there sewage diving expeditions worked I made that up I don't know if they're actually diving. For the testing this fall, the idea is to sample the wastewater from different places on campus so that they can get hyper local data if they can get good enough at sampling and turning around their result in a timely fashion, their work could act as an early alert system for Michigan State perhaps, even at the level of individual buildings. So you've got the pool testing with the affordable spit kits you've got expanded. Diagnostic testing. But literally just for those people who appear to be positive or just playing turn-up sick and then you've got the wastewater testing which increasingly looks like a functioning means of getting a warning in time to react if the plan works, it could help the university find and contain outbreaks. If it works the plan could help Michigan State and it's sixty seven thousand students stay on campus and have something like a semester. Joining us now is the aforementioned Dr Jack? Lipton. Of Translational Neuroscience at Michigan State University Dr Lipton. Thank you for being with us. We've heard about pool testing I want you to tell us a little more about it and why it it specifically helpful in this instance what what about Michigan State makes it a perfect candidate for the pooling of spit. What would you think about full testing end and Michigan state one of the things that you're that is really important to understand that the resources that we have is that university are fairly limited. Bright. But we're not a multinational corporation. So funds are limited resources are limited and pooling allows us to. have. More. More test being done with the same amount of resources or with less resources. So in this case, if we're dealing with supply chain issues with testing if we can test ten people with reagents that we would need to test one person, then we are were saving a lot in terms of of supplies, and if we don't have to run ten tests and we can run one test, we save a lot of time. So if you can save time and you can save supplies, you're going to Yeah. Ultimately conserve and that's really what our goal is and this. This works 'cause you're not expecting a large proportion of people to have this thing right. So generally speaking a bunch of these pools, we'll come out negative. Right. pools if you if you have about ten people in a pool in your expectation is maybe seeing two or three out of a hundred people. Show up positive than most of your pools are going to be negative. The more the prevalence increases the more the rates of infection increase. Then you're going to have more and more positive bulls. If one out of every ten people are positive than a pool of ten, most likely is going to have a positive individual in it. So you have to really balance pool size and prevalence together in order to come up with the right balance to save resources and save time. So the this actually could have broader implications There's a Wall Street Journal op-ed that you wrote about a previous test not this one that we're talking about, but it was a concept of pulling in you set across the United States tens of thousands of similar academic research labs have the expertise and equipment to help the country test for covid nineteen. If even one tenth of these labs joined the effort we could. Test an additional five, hundred thousand to one million samples a day. Your larger point here is that there are ways to get to more people and and then figure it out early rather than what we're in right now where there are some places where people are waiting in excess of seven days for typical test results in a in a concentrated environment like Michigan state you can. You can see things early and intervene. Absolutely and I think it's really important to note when you're talking about the pet that we put together. The vast amount of resources and know how that existed the academic laboratories universities across the country. Each one of the things that we've proposed was to develop biomedical National Guard and utilize all of these individual laboratories across the country and have them be organized through the federal government in order to be able to respond to pandemics or other natural disasters with biomedical know-how and that if we could get something like that done if the next administration is interested in doing something like that, we can be. Proactive instead of reactive in these kinds of situations. Wow. That's incredible because you just answer the question I was going to ask I was going to say, Hey, what can government do to take advantage of these kinds of resources and you just answer that I just want to say that again, a biomedical National Guard what a great simple idea resources all over the country run by different people but the the government of the United States providing the centralization for the data and the distribution. If you think about all of the laboratories and universities that were shut down as a result of the pandemic so many people were were sitting home like I sitting home on on zoom all day. If we have opportunity to come back into the laboratory and help. We can do so much in terms of trying to not only develop new new treatments and and working on new methods of detection, which is what our laboratory did during during April we can marshal all of these resources all. Know How that exists in order to to. Attack this problem in a concerted and coordinated way. Lifting. There's not a lot of great news about Krono virus, but I have to tell you after this conversation. I'm optimistic that there are people like you around this country who are actually in this moment while everything looks as grim as it is finding solutions that are going to help us see the other side of the coronavirus. Dr. Jack Lift Lipton is the chair and professor of translational neuro size. I don't even know what that is. We'll talk about that another time at Michigan State University. Thank you for all that you are doing and good luck to you at Michigan. State, we'll stay on top of this with you.

Warriors deal Russell to Wolves, get back Wiggins

"For people that missed it. The warriors and Timber Wolves agreed on trade us in the Ngelo Russell Jacob Evans in Amari spelman to Minnesota for Andrew Wiggins a a top three protected twenty twenty one first round pick and a twenty twenty two second round pick. I like to steal from Minnesota. I think Karl Anthony towns and de Ngelo. They're obviously good friends. And that's big because towns it's been very frustrated recently but again let's get back to what the warriors got back in return. I'm not a big Fan. I'm not a fan of that that contract but I guess when you're the warriors they're already a situation where a lot of their guys are locked up so I understand that for them. It doesn't matter as much for another team they just Trying to add a guy that can help them on both ends of the floor and the contract isn't as big of a deal for them. But I just think with twenty-three-year-old all-star which is what Russell was he. He was an all star last year. I just don't think that's enough to get back in return. I do like that. They got the draft pick again. Talk Re protected. Twenty twenty. One should be a much better draft twenty twenty based on what the experts are all saying so in top. You're protected. I mean this Minnesota team made it could finish between four and ten could end up being lottery picked so I do think that is very valuable. That's my favorite part of the acquisition here for the warriors I just feel like with wiggins. He's been so disappointing. Maybe maybe they feel like they can help him reach us well potential. We know they've done a very good job of developing guys. They have great leader as a strong culture which may really help someone like wiggins. This could be totally wrong around here. I will admit that maybe wiggins goes there and this is exactly what he needed to reach us and become a better player in guys like Steph and clay and dream on push push him. I just feel like how did they wait until the offseason because they couldn't afford to be patient here. There really wasn't a sense of urgency. I would like to see if there were different offers or different teams that kind of came to the table. I just don't think this is the kind of package that you pounce on when you have a great trade ship and again twenty-three-year-old all-star and no roe pressure to make a move now so but I it is newsday what you're saying. Though had Russell and curry not work together you think that Russell's trade value could have diminished. So I see what you're saying. I'm just not a big Fan. I think that's my problem here. Yeah and I think for Minnesota standpoint It's a very interesting gamble. Because of course they want him as a free agent right and it's always nice to be able to sign a young player like that. If you get the right opportunity comes along but they miss out. It's so let's remember that to make this deal happen. They basically had to ship out Jeff Teague for basically nothing it trade Covington to get some assets assets kinda like sweet things up and they have to wind up trading wiggins out. It's actually make this deal happen with golden state so I don't WANNA say Minnesota gutted their assets but they actually you. You know invest in quite a bit to get Russell. Now the upside to doing that is you're gonNA have a very exciting offensive oriented team where you've got your best players are both all three point shooters with Karl Anthony towns and Diangelo Russel and they should fit together. Great in pick and roll it could pop situations right so for a fan base. That's been through a lot here. Typical era the Jimmy Butler you know You know being upset a few years ago in the long losing streak this year. I think there are some genuine hope and optimism with that pairing between those two guys. But I think my concern is that they really have stripped out a lot of their other proven talent around them and I think that both those guys are just minus defenders and that part it makes me nervous right. Because you know if you're trying to picture these guys is like this inside outside duo right well you want at least one of them to be a plus defender. And I don't think that's it's ever GonNa Happen for either one of those guys and so now it creates some roster challenges where you have to go out and target some other perimeter defenders guys who can help cover up for Russell in towns so that you can at at least be you know average on the defensive end. If you WANNA be a winning team so I guess long story short I think they invested an awful lot of assets. Just make this Russell thing happened and I'm not totally extolled. That he's the right guy to pair with towns but big picture. They did the most important thing which is keep Karl Anthony towns happy. He's their franchise guy he's been disgruntled. You you know for for months now because of all this losing and so I think they do get a short term went out of that.

"The trade deadline is Thursday and by the way do you have an opinion on de Angelo Russell I I got to tell you this at first I was completely in favor of moving him but having gone to a few games Polly being is the partial season ticket holder and fill up man he is a beautiful score he really is and maybe the idea of him and clay and stuff on the same team is kind of intriguing you know not the roster destruction be interesting but right now the timber wolves aren't offering enough so the ways do you have to make a move though to get under attacks line otherwise have to pay a forty million dollar fine I think a lake of even as much as he likes his who concerts in his post Malone concerts and he's not looking to pay forty mil right so Alec Burks could move a blend Robinson could move yeah Amari Spelman could move Jacob everything will come on Looney could move by you gotta wonder what his future is I mean it's unfortunate because he was became such a dependable player for Steve Kerr but I mean I don't know is is he ever going to get back but the real story planned out is with our old pal Andrea you get done yeah how about this is a really weird story he hasn't played a minute from Memphis this year and by the way I think he's making like seventeen Mill seventeen seventeen Mill and I am a little unclear I've tried to read up in much again yeah one clear as to how he can just stay away like is there something in the CBA were like no you gotta come play for is like the guy in office space is again just not going to work anymore I'm just not going under you've missed a lot of games I wouldn't exactly say missing at and I by the way when it when Andriy does come back and go to practice the question is does he clean of fish on newspaper in the locker room do does the does god can offer yeah so anyway so they're going to try to move him and get some for him chained to a veteran team and now the Memphis Grizzlies having a surprisingly good here the twenty five and twenty five they actually hold the eight spot right now they do they got young players like John Moran and they got Dillon Brooks and Dillon Brooks finally just yesterday said you know what we young guys on the Grizzlies a few Andre staying away yeah you can email this

I need teams Just to research basic so getting benching computer science but also Economics Game Theory and even the politics of it and so as a result of this Masa `this is only kind business ecosystem so collected data of thing was around five hundred different even companies on projects in the space and visualize evolution of the system structure Over the first five years of its existence is that that's how we got into both cryptocurrency space and just off the wedge trading. I didn't we know what to do. Call the professor anew anew worst sees what it didn't know as he actually moved to Cambridge on to join the central ten defines these and pick a benchmarking studies and so I never wego almost study which was reason. I don't take the time you've got a job instead. So that was pretty good Any associate India There as assistant so we CO author team benchmarking studies where we reached out to companies in space but surveys and Indian off the yellow took over as the program and lost two years. They're doing quite a bit of studies and other things any indication Asian material in in that kind of stuff well presentations and just recently. Six months ago moved back to Mike. Country CI launched a consulting firm. You were essentially help. Individuals and situations to navigate. This complex landscape which is in most cases means convincing companies. Why light they shouldn't start to own the press? blockchain shamed him if you were think about alternate s. both internal technical as little so upon business perspective. It's very interesting. I think to describe it So that his DIG MMA your company. There you're referencing. What sort of Things than would would you direct companies to. What sort of sort of advice would you give them? If it is not to start their own enterprise blockchain in many cases. There is absolutely city. No need to do that so we came. She opened in one of the study. Said I offered said Cambridge with a term the cold the blockchain mean where it's pretty bad idea that blockchain this concept is one. We in abstract thing has become an abstract thing that can use as a political tool to either Detroit organizational change actually overcome organization in show. I'm so when we talk T- Stuff it's Eddie engine. Eighteen innovate bank. They if they sold the IT project which is essentially nothing else than Upgrade alone over to Um to infrastructure to essentially portrayal frame it as has a blockchain project. Then they will get executive buying and the budget to that. Although of course they knew they would use anything. That's remove close to what we would consider boxing. A which is waiting in because the guy gets better infrastructure The management has something to sell his public in terms of like. Look how over to your. Your engineering team is happy because finding the budget so in the end. It's kind of like a win win. Situation the only problem is that it just creates edition confusion. I guess at the Public Nick Timber. Wolves isn't what it can achieve so that creates a lease a very unrealistic expectations and so a rule. There is first and foremost almost Telling them what action actually is. Winning the project looks more like a blockchain move and then actually showing some alternatives so essentially focusing on specific civic elements log digital signatures like a public infrastructure cryptographic hashing algorithms in order to essentially a team that business case without atten overheads and disadvantages said in a real blockchain would actually cover okay. Is there a view. Then that you're taking specifically now regarding eighty enterprise consulting and blockchain's whether it's smart contracts on a theory or Peter. Todd's open timestamps on Bitcoin. Essentially many cases it's exactly that and so most companies would actually be better off by just Um Breglio occasionally Thompson thing system states in blockchain because that would just be a little more cost efficient and secure repudiation then building their own to know blockchain that's controlled by them but just in many tatum vans jazzy. Both thing the hype at least in the and the press blockchain industry or community of the hype is stated away and has given room to actually Syria's series initiatives now. Most of these initiatives have numb that much in common with these multi-party consensus systems. But it's we need more bads. It's a lot less about about multi-party consensus systems. But by creating shed infrastructure it's not controlled by one single entity more three consortium or joint ventures and and it's just taking a long time actually get to that point and that was mostly because of corporate governance talking about it's ten different things that our competitors and that we want to build a shed infrastructure that they use but nobody owns while that's quite complex and complicated Actually kickoff so now after we three four years of development of intensity station so we we see the first networks actually deploy and think it's actually really exciting developments. It has not that much to do. With willow would consider blockchain's more about its cryptographic shared infrastructure which deafening those benefits. Everyone involved including the end customer Indians. Well
