The threat of domestic attacks here in washington clear january six and indirection of the us capital then again friday the killing of a capital police officer. We have to get to the root cause of this violence in the months after the january attack washington fortified it's capitol grounds. It looks terrible to have the big of our democracy surrounded by razor wire and national guard troops the temporary outer barbed wire barrier came down leaving. Just this fencing capitol police officers in this existing barrier to respond to friday's attack capital. Police have to be ready to twenty seven and they need the resources to do. Lieutenant general russel honore released review last month with proposals for permanent security reforms including the hiring of more than eight one hundred and fifty additional personnel and integrated retractable fencing system and quick response crises units. Whose powell about democracy congressman. Tim ryan chairs the house subcommittee overseeing the capitol police as lawmakers work on a two billion dollar bill that would provide the cash necessary to implement the security upgrades. What next and enter promo code. What next some of your colleagues have made pretty serious allegations about what happened on the sixth. Like i i was struck. Particularly by congressman mickey cheryl from new jersey who alleged that some republican representatives were leading reconnaissance tours through the capital before the insurrection and it was struck by congresswoman anna presley who hurting was quoted as saying once. They got to her office. They noticed all of their panic. Buttons were gone. I i wonder if you know any more about these kinds of more extreme allegations at this point well we did get Confirmation that the panic button. That was a a snafu four changing so there's a lot of offices that change after a new congress begins People retire people get beat. And then there's a scramble to move into the better offices of somebody who gets Beaters out and in that process. Evidently we were told that there was an issue with the getting the panic button reinstated and one of the offices or couple of the offices so that seemed to be just kind of a random thing that happened with without anything nefarious. Being a part of that the tours. I think are something else. I mean tours or something that mikey has long experience and national security and so part of being in congress as you get experts that come from all over the country in different fields and so what i said is look looking for. Antennas are up probably much sharper than anybody else's in the congress and we need to. We need to take to account what she's saying so you don't want to jump to any conclusions. I'm really trying to make sure we don't let our fear. Override our system here but also be clear. Eyed has to some common sense stuff so that's being looked into. There are close to two thousand cameras around capitol hill. So there's a ton of footage as you can see as the arrests are being made. And i had a call it two days ago with the chief of capital police. Just basically tone them. We need to zero in on those tours on those hours on january fifth we need to have some knowledge if if there is a connection here and if there are a connections there then in there were intentionally you know helping these people understand why the capital look like. Then that begins. Criminal activity of coordination for sedition and trespassing and all these other charges that are going to be levied. So it's an important step. But i want people to know before the inauguration which members of congress those war there was such a disconnect between these kinds of comments about congress people being very scared and concerned about how their colleagues were responding to the insurrection and possibly even preparing for it and then what happened in the republican. Because at the same time that we're seeing allegations that republican congress people may. Have you know giving people tours. We republican congress people insisting on for instance bringing firearms onto the floor. There you have it. I mean that. That's i mean that's the point it's like okay. We're already concerned about what happened. Were concerned about members potentially being involved with the coordination or at least helping with the knowledge. We know you're giving vocal support in tweets in media support all that and now we have the mind blowing step of we need magnetometers for members of congress walking into the house chamber because other members of congress who may be tied to. The tours are certainly tied to the insurrection. Are want to carry guns into the chamber now. Were we are on uncharted waters foreshore. But then when those members say we're not going through those metal detectors why you know why no one else in this place is is carrying a gun and you want to worried about where you've been just so mind blowing for all of us every citizen who's been in that situation where it's just an you just gotta take your wallet out through your person on the other side and let him look look through it and just walk through because you're part of a community here that needs to feel a little bit safer and the level of selfishness is what blows my mind to just not recognize that tips people off. Maybe there's something more going on here. Have you interacted much with your republican colleague. Since the breach like. I'm kind of curious if you feel safe with them. I i mean the vast majority of of them are fine vast vast majority. Are you know politicians who want to curry favor with the base. And you know i think some of them realized that it got a little bit out of control. You know those people who change their vote. After the insurrection you got a lot of republicans walking around the capital looking at their shoes you know they stayed wanna dry contact with anybody in a lot of them down deep no that that this went way too far that they're perpetuating the big lie that this whole thing is built upon is that enough no No it's not even close. Which is why i think i think we need to do something along. The lines of a resolution at that is very straightforward and clear much like the impeachment resolution. That just says you know. All of these accounts about fraud for the election were exhausted and biden is the legally elected a president of the united states and that the election. It's like you might ever and.

40,000 airline workers brace for mass layoffs

"About 40,000 airline workers are facing lay off tomorrow unless Congress comes up with a miracle. A clause for the $25 billion. A package at the beginning of the pandemic prevented them from laying off workers, but that expires tomorrow. Congress has been considering a second round of airline aid for weeks, but it's hung up in the debate over a larger national relief package. Ohio Democratic Congressman Tim Ryan on the House Democrats latest coffer of 2.2 trillion on. That plan would revive a $600 per week jobless benefit and send a second round of $1200 direct payments to most individuals. Is this the moment for compromise with Republicans? Democrats? God, I hope so. I mean, when you see the rates of people who are worried about, you know, paying their bills, bankruptcy, losing their home, you know, evictions. Stiller out there small businesses, restaurants. Now is the time. I mean, if we can't do it now, it's not gonna happen. And, you know, now we're talking into November. I think we're gonna lose a lot of businesses that will never come back. We have to act now. Final question to some practical matter. Procedurally speaking, if it doesn't get on a fiscal stimulus doesn't get done before the November 3rd election is December 11th and next cliff, so to speak, when we could see stimulus moving People are trying to figure out when that stimulus is going when that is going to come on the calendar, my history and 18 years in Congress is that it goes up right to the deadline, so I would say Yeah, I would be probably early December. We don't go back till after the election. Then you have Thanksgiving and then a couple weeks in early December, so that would make the most sense. But I will get it done now because the ramifications when we're talking about December 11th as opposed to October 11th are significant for millions of people who will be really, really hurt by this. "Did you debates about why bernie sanders there's healthcare plan would be great for in fact people like union workers who had good healthcare so i'm going to play that part of the debates and right out of that you will hear my question question two representative ryan about it. These union members are losing their jobs. Their wages have been stagnant. The world is crumbling around them. The only thing thing they have is possibly really good healthcare and the democratic message is going to be we're going to go in and the only thing you have left. We're going to take it and we're going to do better. I do not think that's a recipe for success for us. It's bad policy and it's certainly bad politics. You said that that <hes> moving to his version. Let us say just medicare for all single payer. Whatever you wanna call it bad policy. Bad politics bullets removed the politics from somewhere out there that probably a lot of union workers have those great <hes> medical coverage ridge and they love bernie. They're like i don't care. We should go for it so to him. It's not bad politics wise it just bad policy without the politics. I don't think the government should should be coming in and taking something from somebody or telling somebody that they can't have something that they want in the sense of their healthcare that they were able to negotiate i mean you can start building this alternative system <hes> without doing that and then as people wanna move over if they have shitty health insurance. They're gonna wanna come into the public public option and let's again like where's the sixty votes for this thing so the end even the policy criticism crashes. She's into the politics. It's hard to get beyond the politics. It seems so apparent to him that the politics are unworkable. It seems that way to me also especially if you look at the example vermont that it makes it quite difficult to say putting that aside let us talk about the policy but i do think that there is something going on here often partisans in pitching chink themselves to other partisans so we're talking about a dynamic where democrat tries to debate with or even convince a democrat they make the political argument before the policy argument because well they think it will work but also they perceive it to be or even intuitive to be a sort of common ground more common ground. Tim tim ryan knows he is not going to convince a bernie sanders supporter that the promised land of single payer is a bad place to land. He thinks that it's a much better use of his time to argue from a shared set of beliefs and assumptions and say something like and again this is to the union member who loves bernie in one single payer that hypothetical guy who certainly exists somewhere so tim ryan someone like him thinks it's better to say look you know and i i know be great. If everyone in america can have health care provided by the government good healthcare like you have but since that's not where the rest of america is let's just try to get it step by step. It's an argument you emphasize the politics because it seems more to be based in outreach and connection it sways people more than arguing the core value of the policy. There are very few arguments politics where you say look the politics of this. I are pretty easy. Whatever we wanna pass is going to pass. We have huge momentum on our side. What the real battle is is what the policy is going to be that happens oso rarely what usually happens is the opposite. There's a lot going on with this. I think i think it is much more in keeping with everything i know about human nature to ascribe too bad politics what you also see as bad policy we couple the two president obama for instance essentially was making tim ryan's ryan's argument on healthcare. He you know he said where the sixty votes. He said you know maybe if we were starting from scratch and we had the canadian system. Maybe we better in fact. He did say it would probably be better but he also said we don't and the disruption to get there. Tomorrow would be too much. The politics were so obvious to a good politician like obama didn't even waste his time gathering about the policy but i gotta note that obama and ryan both think that it is bad policy because it would be disruptive. Maybe they didn't emphasize that much because it was hard to get past the fact that it's politically on feasible when i was in iowa i talked to brady of voter from arizona at state fair fair and he laid out some issues that as of late have been popular among leading democratic contenders and he said these were all bad politics. Listen listen for me the. I think there should be a public option. I think medicare for all speaks to too many people that it's a big government takeover and i think it hurts electability quite honestly i think with with <hes> a private option even if the private equity option is medicare. It's still is more electable <hes> and to me a bridge too. Far is the <hes> just wiping out all student loan debt. I think that's a bridge too far. I think that you're not a go on one more illegal healthcare for illegals. <hes> that's coming from arizona. That's not going to get people elected <hes> because there are a whole bunch of people that may not be racist but still don't want to give illegals healthcare and you know that's that's their opinion so i think there's a few of those that are just a little too far from me. I happen to think brady believes all those ideas are bad policies which are also hurting the electability of democratic candidates. He presents them as bad politics as a bridge too far in his words because he perceives this fight. I don't think other people will go oh for them as an easier fight to win among democrats than this fight. I don't think other people should go for them. It's easier to fight about the tactic dick. Look is it smart of us to proudly proclaim that we favor free healthcare for people without legal status. Is that the wisest thing to do easier to fight right about the tactic than to fight about the values look. I don't think these people should have healthcare. That's something a republican would say and a democrat would probably most democrats. What's would probably shut that argument down but i do think that most of the time when you argue that something is bad politics you're saying wittingly or unwittingly that it's is also bad policy because it was something we're great policy something that you strongly favor it will be hard to jettison. It just based on your hypothetical supposition. That wouldn't be popular. I furthermore believe based on nothing. That brady told me just what i picked up on in his intonation some further conversations stations with him in general how much he emphasized that he wanted to win that he does think that full student debt forgiveness isn't just a bridge too far for other people both he doesn't like it much either i think so i bet he thinks that that's a bridge too far for himself. For brady i mean maybe if he could snap his fingers and get all the debt forgived he would but he doesn't want to spend a lot of political capital doing it. Which is why the it's bad. Politics argument usually works on other people who agree with you that it's also bad policy personally. I believe along with tim ryan in in barack obama that healthcare going right to single payer is bad politics and also probably overly disruptive bad policy and i happen to agree with brady on his issues. I very much feel that those are the kind of policies that would be alienating too many voters and that is the part that i will emphasize to you. My audience who i perceive is more persuadable on the tactics or at least will think more a highly of me than if i were to come out here and say look. I just don't think healthcare is a right work for you. Ingrates and pay your debts. You're bad people. If you don't luckily for elizabeth with warren who asks what is the point of running. If you don't do big things the single payer crowd knows that i am not going to be president and neither is brady ryan though he has a better shot than the two of us and.

"Send you back to five or six thirty day treatments <hes> it but you're never really dealing with the problem so we need to move to a system. That's like like ninety or one hundred twenty days paid for upfront as opposed to five thirty days so resources resources resources underlies not just sort of the plans you have but that every democrat has to be honest where those resources gonna come from. You're going to roll back those tax cuts. We have to <hes> you know when you when you look at ceos have seen nine hundred forty percent increase and their earnings over since nineteen seventy eight and workers have only seen a twelve percent increase that let me say that again nine hundred forty percent increase to c._e._o.'s twelve percent for the workers so that concentration of wealth pass to be taxed and we need to get that revenue but again. I don't wanna put this money into a bunch of broken systems like all these systems are broken and and so i i'm not for just dumping money talk about food as medicine i talk about you know you know regenerative agriculture. I want to create and build new systems that we will tax people and then put the money and so for me again. It's like okay. Let's let's keep giving people thirty day. Rehabs ask people to pay more in taxes so that we can keep keep doing this when the system isn't working and when i talk about new and better i'm talking about transforming systems not reforming but transforming them into the newer system so that when we're at i look at it like a school levy right. Everybody knows a school levy. What does the superintendent do. What does the school board do and the teachers and the coaches when they want to pass a school levy. They outline plan on the reforms. They're going to do to the school or where they're going to allocate more money or less money the cuts they're gonna make or whatever it is and then you take that to the people and say hey we vote for this tax. Increase <hes> on your property so that we can fund the school i'm trying to do the same thing is to say look. Here's my reforms swag. Here's my reform education. Here's my reforms for healthcare now wealthy people i want. We need your help. I mean but i'm i'm telling you we're going to reform these systems so let's shift gears here a little bit because i want to talk to you about guns in america. Obviously we've had an ongoing spate of really terrible terrible. Mass shootings in this in this country as people probably know you want had an a rating from the n._r._a. <hes> for many many years in fact and in two thousand seventeen <hes> you returned at twenty thousand dollar donation from the n._r._a. Pack are you actually you gave it to <hes> to to sort of gun gave every town and sandy hook promise et cetera and you've talked about how your evolution on your view of the n._r._a. Okay and <hes> guns more broadly in america but what i want to know congressman. Is that happened in two thousand seventeen following the las vegas shooting. Why why didn't you do it before..

"Tim ryan <hes> it lit it up with teachers right like i can't believe that that a presidential candidate talking about social emotional learning the second debate. I talked about regenerative agriculture like with that. I got to say it right and talk about it. For thirty seconds. The regenerative agriculture community lit up so to me see i i believe i have the most transformational agenda and because when you talk about regenerative agra so i talked social emotional learning bipartisan support regenerative egg you literally have regenerative farmers that don't believe climate change is caused by man but they will sequester carbon and put it in the soil because it increases the organic matter in their focus is we've screwed screwed up the soil and so it's it's a bipartisan thing it's it's like i'm not gonna sit here. This is like art of war right. Where's the energy like we could do. Regenerate farming we could pass that because i will bring to capitol hill republican libertarian regenerate farmers who don't need subsidies right..

"Dot org and a little later this hour we'll also be taking a look at the high tech and low attack ways people are trying to thwart facial recognition technology in the hong kong protests but first. Let's spend a considerable amount of time here with congressman tim ryan he joins us in the studio studio. He's serving his eighth term as representative for ohio's thirteenth congressman ryan welcome to on point. Thank you for having me okay so let's ask you the question here. How much longer are you going to stay in this race. He's <hes> were in it for the foreseeable future. Were picking up support. I was just in new hampshire yesterday. <hes> got after i got done. Speaking four or five people came up. They wanna one of volunteer on the campaign help us in new hampshire. We get standing ovations everywhere. We go whether it's south. Carolina teachers unions <hes> so we're connecting and we're just building it out. I mean i don't have the name recognition which is why i'm glad you have on right now. <hes> that some of the other candidates and when you look at the polling it says who if you had to vote tomorrow morrogh who would you vote for and then someone has to say who they're gonna vote for but behind that is how certain are you that that your candidate in about sixty to seventy percent china the people are saying. I'm not certain at all of voting for so it's wide open so this is the funny thing about presidential politics in this day and age because on the one hand you have the all important face to face retail politics in those early primary states right so everyone goes to new hampshire iowa south carolina and maybe you're making. Maybe you're getting some traction action there understood but you said it yourself. There's a name recognition issue and that's what makes those that debate stage really really important and you may not make it the next debate on september twelfth because the numbers have to be up over two percent you gotta you gotta double those national numbers. How are you going to do that. Well continue to work. I mean we went from zero. We've been spending and some time in south carolina. We went from zero percent to one percent in south carolina. We've had significant <hes> we've picked up a couple of really key endorsements down there representative fletcher smith breath brandon brown. These were vice president joe biden's co-chairs <hes> one <hes> represented smith was his co chair in two thousand and eight. We're pulling some of the joe biden. People got really big endorsements in new hampshire. <hes> top vote getting aldermen president of the board of aldermen in manchester which is obviously the the biggest city in the state. He's endorsed us to others so i'm doing it. The old fashioned way and i know that's not as sexy is <hes> getting on twitter and having eight million followers followers but this is how i'm doing it and you know i think at the end of the day it's gonna pay off so give us your pitch then. Why is it that congressman tim ryan of ohio. Oh thanks that of speaking in third person. Why is it that you think you're the right person to serve in the white house because i'm my agenda gets us out of the left and right conundrum that we're in right now and gets us in the new and better and what progressives should here when they say when i say that is the new even better. Agenda is a progressive agenda but it's new. I'm talking about trauma informed care in our school social emotional learning in every school a mental health counselor in every school vocational training <hes> in every school art therapy music therapy play therapy. If we don't address the trauma that our kids are having you were never going to get their brain function properly. We've learned more about the brain in the last twenty years in the previous two hundred and i want an agenda for our kids that actually deals with how their our brains functioning so a progressive listening to this right now should say wow that's interesting in that is the response. I'm getting everywhere. I go when i talk about healthcare. We don't just talk about health insurance. My agenda is about. How do we get healthy..

"Sewer lines. I mean, it's, it's, it's very complicated process who you need a public, private partnership to build this out in this makes sense. The people go to Tim Ryan for America dot com. This is the future. This is how we rebuild the economy. I've been in the epicenter of deindustrialization. I know how to do this. We just gotta get the federal government and the president on board with creating an industrial policy and then driving, it got ask you about climate change before we let you go. Of course, the midwest has been dealing with a fair amount of severe weather recently Ohio has been sip has been hit by several tornados in the past week. Some of the tornadoes in the midwest have been deadly. First of all, is your district. Okay. Has your was your district hit by any of those tornadoes at all severely. No Dayton was. Was and southwest Ohio. We were a little bit were in the northeast. And so, fortunately, we were okay, okay. What's at the top of your list in terms of dealing with climate change? First of all, you do believe that human beings are affecting the climate, right? I do. Okay. I do think hang up on you then. But yeah, I, I think over, you know millions and billions of years when fossil fuel gets put into the ground and within a couple of hundred years, you dig it all out, and burn it. That that's going to affect on on the environment. Hop of you're listening terms of the presidency of what you should be doing about climate change. One protecting these coastal cities. I think we've got to have an infrastructure Bill, that does it but it's also a lot about the ecosystems in handling the flooding that will come in the in the coming years that we have to be able to deal with. I and then I think we need a comprehensive plan that includes tapping into our free enterprise system. So having the government, lay down some rules, but also figuring out how do you align financial incentives with environmental incentives? Meaning how can how can companies make money off of capturing carbon how can companies make money and benefit from going into these new technologies that we talked about wind solar electric vehicles. All of. This stuff in make money off of contributing to reversing climate change. I don't mind you making money and hiring people, I think it's great. How do we make sure workers or cut in on the deal? And we unionize these jobs so that the unions and the workers can negotiate for a piece of the action, and then the last piece has got to be agriculture. I mean we didn't get into it here, but I'm a big advocate of, of reforming the agricultural system to help farmers and pay farmers to capture carbon and put it in the soil. We've, we've completely depleted our soil of carbon over the last thirty or forty years, it needs more carbon. And there are regenerative agricultural techniques that we can use to help help farmers, make some more money because they're in a recession now and so pay them to sequester carbon. It also moves us into a healthier food system. More regional sustainable food system because I have a whole initiative, again, go to my website, you can find it on food is food as medicine that we need to start growing healthier food so that we can. Reverse diabetes. For example. I mean there's a whole body of evidence being developed on, on using it. So the farmers can, then we we're actually building a sustainable way for farmers to survive again and thrive in today's economy. So it's got to be all of the above Ohio congressman Tim Ryan, who represents Akron, Warren and Youngstown running for the democratic nomination for president congressman safe travels on the campaign trail. And thanks for making time for us pleasure to be with you. Thank you. We will continue interviewing candidates for our series foresight twenty twenty so far. We spoken to Senator Bernie Sanders. "What the president of the United States is going to do. That's my economic policy of people think that's a good idea, as I said, go to Tim Ryan for America dotcom helped me out, because this is the direction, we need to go. We need to out compete China. You're gonna have these trade issues here or there. They need to be very targeted because they're disrupting and they're killing farmers right now. Let me ask you also about Iran secretary of state, Mike Pompeo was on CNBC to talk about the latest with Iran. Here's part of what he said the threat from Ron remains. We've had some luck in disrupting some of the tactical things that were in front of us, but we're still on high alert, and we briefed congress extensively Tuesday of this week, I think almost every member, Democrats and Republicans like walked out of that room. Understanding that the threats that we were discussing ended decision. The President Trump made to take a posture to deter those threats and to protect our forces were wholly justified in reasonable that was secretary of state Mike Pompeo speaking on CNBC last week with regards to these new threats from Iran. What would your approach as president be particularly because Iran is not just its own threat to the US, but it's also involved in so many other proxies around the region, including the war in Yemen. How would you deal with Iran? Well, let me be clear. First and foremost, I do not trust John Bolton who is leading this whole charge for the president of the United States. He is national security advisor. John Bill, our national president's national security adviser, top national security advisor, he's wanted regime change in Iran for a long time. I don't trust him. I don't trust the president on this. I think these are very delicate issues in, and, you know, you don't need a guy with the sledgehammer going into the Middle East. We tried that with Iraq were still paying the price for that. It's, it's crippled us for a generation, and our foreign policy. I believe we need to go back to what President Obama and secretary John Kerry put together with the Iran nuclear deal. We had a good deal in which we were limiting their ability to produce nuclear weapons. We were allowing them the slowly produce more nuclear energy. We had the.

"From New York today. Join by Jake Sherman of Politico's playbook, author along with his co authors of a hill to die on with me. He'll be a guest on meet the press on and part of the panel, Jake. What are you doing meet the press Sunday part of the penalty? Doing a stand alone with Chuck about the book, we're a part of the panel. I don't think Jeff does a ton of standalone unless you're very famous which I thought, but you're going to talk about the book a little bit. It's going to be my first media television a pair of about the book. And I think we are coming on your show for a while. That's about it in great length. I hope not. Yes. If you are a new better be bringing me my copy the green room. That's all I'm asking you have your copy never Jake, Dwayne takes every book that's ever supposed to come to me any reads it, and then I get it. So if you want me to be raw red just bring along an extra copy of the green room. All right. Let's talk by the way. How's it doing? I mean are people paying it and saying, well, here's this. Here's a way to do. It is is a hill to die on going to be a Hilton Diane for you. Yeah. I don't know if it's gonna be hopefully, it won't be the hill. I it. We have a excerpt in politico magazine today with an amazing quote from the president of the United States, which is the last quote in the book where he says they're lousy competition. They've got the worst ideas the world, but they stick together from set of Democrats and Republicans stick together as well. There's no question about it. I respect them for that. I tell the Republicans that I stayed people stick together. Even if it's bad they stick together. Which in my view it in. Very interesting. The the president's new of governing in the Republic. He speaks truth. I hope the president tweets that out. He speaks truth Republicans will kill each other. If they turn their back for a second Republicans, go back to back they form a circle with knives against the world. And when push comes to shove, for example, w was elected in two thousand and forty made two thousand five all about social security. What you help of Josh Marshall a talking points memo in Harry Reid. They just said, no, no, no, no, no matter what Bush offer them. They wouldn't go see eight wouldn't negotiate wouldn't negotiate and the Dem's one than we had Katrina than we had the Terry shy. Oh controversy than we had Harriet Myers. It was the horrible honest. The worst year ever two thousand and five Democrats stuck together hill to die on. I hope that come by the way, do you know the lunch role Jake Sherman? No, I do not what is that Frank Luntz told me years ago that if you don't say the name of the book a Hilton Diane seven times. In the course of any interview people remember a hill to die on. And if they can't remember a hell to die on they won't know how to order a Hilton, Diane from Barnes and noble, Amazon dot com. So make sure you or your local bookseller, by the way. God bless the local booksellers publishers going to say don't forget, the local booksellers Amazon is what drives us right? You got to get people to go to Amazon, and you didn't say Hugh Hewitt set to get a hill to die on. Now. I just did it for you. But in the courts, I'm going to be kicking under the table at meet the press, if you don't say in a Hilton, Diane every time you open your mouth, I'm gonna kick it. I will I will say seven times die on available everywhere. You by Tuesday. They're gonna say that. Nick. Well, we've got we've hit the magic seven the hill the die on already we've already now. Let's talk about my favorite democrat, Tim Ryan Tim Ryan for America dotcom. Tim Ryan for America dotcom. Tim Ryan for American come. I can't give money to anyone because I work for NBC in the Washington Post and Salem broadcast. I can't give dollar and anybody, but I can tell everyone Tim Ryan for America. So that we can get a normal centre-left old school democrat who isn't going to have a handy problem on the set. What do you think of Tim Ryan for American Tim Ryan's chances? Tim Ryan is a character in the. Minor character. Good. He was the only person we talked to him at length and. Gracious time over a couple a couple of sessions, but the congressmen ran against remember when don't want else would at twenty after many Democrats, wait a second. We're we're going to be in the minority now for for eight years and the leader is still going unsalaried and stuck his neck out said, no, we need to to have somebody who could speak for all Democrats. And he said that again this time he didn't run this time. But he is somebody frankly who had water respect in the caucus somebody who is part of as remember in in Democrats from Ohio. Look a lot more like Ryan. Significantly the left. The Tim Ryan is really a very rare breed. So I very crowded crowded field. But he'll have a different message different vibes buddy else. Now. Tim might be on the show next hour. He might I don't know if you're do the press, not Chuck, Tom. Now, we're talking about him yesterday and Tim's an old friend, and I went to the same high school. He's from Niles, I'm from Warren. I've known him for as long as Tim spin around. I know his brother we were just together and warranted. Our fundraiser for high school. We could go Ryan good guy, and shucks opinion is he may play very well in Iowa. And I pointed out he went to law school in New Hampshire. Looking not a household name in California. But what you got to get on the stage. Do you think he gets is at sixty thousand individual donors like Alexander Wang has got no path to the presidency ten has a hard one. But it's possible. There's a lame there for a center-left democrat sixty five thousand I think the magic number and let them getting in the in the. The in the in the rate late, which he did. And it's not that late late compared to the other twenty people who are running hampers that. And frankly, be honest with you he somebody who could be radically. If you set up an operation gets small dollar donors, get the machine revved up. But that's very difficult. And that's the benchmark that Democrats have sent he has going to have to try to meet that it's going to be tough. But again, he has a message that is different than everybody else. Not cookie cutter candidates. He's not necessarily polished and TV ready. And I say that in a good way not in a bad way more relatable than some of the other Democrats. I think that's something that could play his paper on this analogy. Jake. It's what I've used. Explain Ryan all the other candidates Republicans normally nominate quarterback like people Reagan was a quarterback like person George Bush where the quarterback like person Donald Trump was quarterback like person that rounding quarterback meeting. They run organization they want to be in charge. They wanted to throw the ball. They wanna call the play Democrats. Nominate individuals sports people like presence. Obama the golfer the cerebral the by himself, the alone. Chuck Todd's book, the stranger or other people who are just they're not team leaders in that you have to become the team leader when you become president. But Tim Ryan's a quarterback. He played quarterback at Youngstown state played quarterback at Kennedy got that personality, very killer. Very engaging who else's most like Ryan in the field in terms of emotional IQ. I'd say Buddha judge is one of them. Be honest with you, the less time you spend at Washington dying spent a lot of time in Washington. So maybe this work, but it seems like the last time you sent to Washington to better to be honest with you and. Does seem to have kind of normal five which other people don't have. And that again is playing his favor. I think senators senatorial, right? I mean, we talk about that all the time. And I think Buddha judge, and I think Tim Ryan degree have a little bit more down home flavor before you wanna get with this guy. Although I don't think Tim Reid drinks anymore. So I don't want to his by saying that. But you know, what I need you could sit in the guy and have a beer, and he's a totally dude. And that's all right. In fact, I was at the the bar Cleary's in Niles where Tim won his first election couple of weeks back, and they were talking about ten is. In fact, just a wonderful guy to hang with Pete. A judge though judge is exactly as you say. And I read a profile of this week where he has midwestern deindustrialization in his bones as Tim Ryan if I were Tim Ryan since the Lordstown GM plant, which is now shuttered is in his district. I do my first day rally there. I'd get over there in front of that in hammer on GM hammer hammer hammer GM, they took the money that killed the bondholders. They screwed everyone. They ran off with their bags of gold, and they closed Lordstown that I I would be unrelenting and unforgiving, by the way. It's not exactly Donald Trump's best moment that they did that to him. No, that's right. And it's funny. I've talked to a member of congress the other day about Justice issues and. Member of congress is close ally. The president was saying the heat would what the president really needs to do his own reelected to find it. Eight pro-trump union member leader and get him out there on his blood some of those attacks. But anyway, I get an absolutely correct political argument that you that would be a very very poignant image for for can Ryan Jake Sherman. If you're on the panel with me who else is on the panel on Sunday. Anna Palmer, my co author, and I think Heather McGee the course, although we've got we've got my Lepretre you've got to send a write me. We gotta have a left, and we have to journalists in you. And that's great. That's terrific that Chuck must like you. Here again fan, and John Reese men likes you. Are you a Yankee fan? Nat sand and I go Mets fan. So don't tell these been that executive producer. If you're a Mets fan, you're going to be an empty chair at the table on Sunday. So he'll the Diane by Jake Sherman is out. Now, don't forget bring Hewitt a copy. So I can read it on the plane back to California. Thank you, Jake. We'll see you on Sunday on meet the press act Jake Sherman. Let me also remind all of you one of the sponsors of my program citizens for truth and drug pricing. I don't think it's come up on meet the press. And if they can't remember. Diane. They won't know how to order a Hilton Diane from Barnes and noble, Amazon dot com. So make sure. Or your local bookseller, by the way. God bless the local booksellers. And you're going to say don't forget, the local booksellers Amazon is what drives us, right? You gotta get people to go to Amazon, and you didn't say Hugh Hewitt set to get a hill today on now, I just did it for you. But in the course of time going to be kicking under the table at meet the press, if you don't say in a Hilton die on every time, you open your mouth, I'm gonna kick it. Okay, fine. I will I will say seven times on available everywhere you by Tuesday. There were. Well, we got we hit the magic seven. They held a die on already. Now. Let's talk about my favorite democrat, Tim Ryan, Tim ran for America dotcom. Tim Ryan for America that come Tim Ryan for American dot com. I can't give money to anyone because I work for NBC in the Washington Post and Salem broadcast. I can't get a dollar and anybody, but I can tell everyone Tim Ryan for America. So that we can get a normal left old school democrat who isn't going to have a handy problem on the set. What do you think of Tim Ryan for American Tim Ryan's chances? Reversal. Tim Ryan is a character in the. Minor character. Good. He was the only person we talked to him at length. And and and he's a great time over a couple a couple of sessions, but the congressmen ran against you. Remember when no one else would at twenty sixteen after many, Democrats, wait a second. We're we're gonna be in the minority now for for eight years and the leader is still going on challenged stuck his neck out said, no, we need to have somebody who could speak for all Democrats. And he said that again this time he didn't run this time. But he is somebody frankly who has a lot of respect in the caucus somebody who is Cordova's remember in in Democrats from Ohio, and they used to look a lot more like Jim Ryan, but the party shifted so significantly the left Tim Ryan is really a very rare breed. So I very crowded crowded field. But he'll have a different message in different. Five than everybody else. Now. Tim might be on the show next hour. He might I don't know the the press not Chuck Todd. Now, we're talking about yesterday, and Tim old friend. He and I went to the same high school. He's from Niles, I'm from Warren. I've known him for as long as it's been around. I know his brother we were just together in warranted. Our fundraiser for high school, we could go Ryan good guy, and shucks opinion is he may play very well in Iowa. And I pointed out he went to law school in New Hampshire. Looking not a household name in California. But what you got to get on the stage. Do you think he gets is at sixty thousand individual donors? Like Alexander Wang has got Wayne's got no path to the presidency. Tim has a hard one. But it's possible. There's a lane there for a left democrat. Sixty five thousand I think the magic number and listen getting in the in the in the in the late, which he did. And it's not that late late compared to the twenty people who are running hampers that. And frankly, the honest with you he's somebody who could theoretically if he set up an operation small dollar donors get the machine revved up, but that's very difficult. And that's the benchmark that Democrats he has going to have to try to meet that it's going to be tough. But again, he has a message that is different than everybody else. Not cookie cutter candidate, he's not necessarily polished and TV ready. And I say that in a good way not in a bad way might be more relatable than some of the other Democrats. I think that's something that could claim favor think on this analogy, Jake. It's what I've used explain Ryan and all the other candidates Republicans normally nominate quarterback like people Reagan was a quarterback like person George Bush was a quarterback like person Donald Trump was a quarterback like person that Romney quarterback meeting. They run organization they want to be in charge. They want to throw the ball. Want to call the play Democrats nominally individuals sports people like President Obama the golfer the cerebral the out by himself, the alone. Chuck Todd book, the stranger or other people who are just they're not team leaders in that you have to become the team leader when you become president. But Tim Raines a quarterback he played quarterback at Youngstown state played quarterback at Kennedy got that personality, very killer. Very engaging who else is most like Ryan in the field in terms of emotional IQ. I say Buddha. Judges one of them. To be honest with you, the less time spent at Washington Brian to spend a lot of time in Washington. So maybe doesn't work, but it seems like the less time spent in Washington, the better to be honest with you and does seem to have the kind of normal by which other people don't have. And that again is playing his favor. I think senators are senatorial, right? I mean, we talk about that all the time. But how? And I think Buddha judge, and I think Tim Ryan to serve degree and have a little bit more down home flavor. Little before you wanna get with this. Although I don't think Tim Ryan drinks anymore. So I don't want to his his Tekere by saying that. But you know, what I mean, you could sit the guy and have a beer, and he's a totally dude. And that back. Appealing. I was at the the bar Cleary's in Niles where Tim won his first election couple of weeks back, and they were talking about ten is. In fact, just a wonderful guy to hang with judge. The judge is exactly as you say. And I read a profile of this week where he has mid western deindustrialization in his bones. As Tim Ryan if I were Tim Ryan since the Lordstown GM plant, which is now shuttered is in his district. I do my first day rally there. Get over there in front of that in hammer on GM hammer, hammer hammer GM, they took the money. They killed the bondholders screwed everyone. They ran off with their bags of gold, and they closed Lordstown that I would be unrelenting and unforgiving. And by the way. It's not exactly Donald Trump's best moment that they did that to him. No, that's right. Talked to a member of congress the other day about just those issues and. Member of congress close ally. The president was saying he would win the president really needs to do his own reelected to find it a pro-trump union member leader and get him out there on his side blood some of those attacks. But anyway, gets an absolutely correct political argument that you. That would be very very poignant image for four can right Jake Sherman. If you're on the panel with me who else is on the panel on Sunday. Anna Palmer, my co author, and I think. Heather mcghee. The course, although we got we've got left there. We've got a Senate, right? May we gotta have a left in. We have to journalists in you. And that's great. That's terrific. Chuck must like you. Or here again fan, and John Reese Mun likes you ideally, Yankees fan nominated fan and I grow Mets fan. So don't tell these executive producer of the Mets fan going to be an empty chair at the table on Sunday. So he'll Diane by Jay Sherman is out. Now, don't forget bring Hewitt a copy. So I can read it on the plane back to California. Thank you. Jay. We'll see you on Sunday on meet the press at Jake Sherman. Let me also remind all of you one of the sponsors of my program is citizens for truth and drug pricing. I don't think there's come up on meet the press. But it could studied by Dartmouth College showed seventeen point one billion dollars on marketing big pharma did in nineteen ninety seven twenty years later that number was thirty billion..

"Here you can't punish her because someone leaked her news that wasn't her. If someone steals a painting from the move, it's not the new that gets in trouble. We can't blame them we blame the criminal. And by the way, the new has tons of nudes. Why do you think the Mona Lisa's always smiling? And we can talk about how it's time society stops getting scandalized by nude photos. I mean, almost everyone has them these days, you know, that book everyone poops we didn't want to call everyone newts. All right. Everyone's naked somewhat. But we don't have time to go into all of that. Because the democratic primary is overflowing with candidates and to quote, political pundit DJ Calot, another one. Had one more to the list democratic congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio is in joining the growing list of twenty twenty democratic candidates. Speaking out earlier on ABC describing the moments behind how he made the final decision. I can go back just a few weeks where my daughter called me crying from school because her friend was crying to her her dad just got transferred at the local General Motors plan the kids had the move. Yeah. And my daughter called me, and she said, you gotta do something. And I said I'm going to do something and I'm gonna run for president of the United States. Okay. That's that's a strange way to help a friend. I feel like I'm going to start using that next time a friend asked me to pick them up from the airport. I'm going to be like, you know, what I'll help you Dave by running for president. I'll do it for you. That's right. Ohio. Congressman Tim Ryan has officially thrown his hat into the ring which brings the number of Democrats running for president to seventeen that is so many people look at all those faces all those faces why so many faces at some point. You gotta ask yourself if every democrat runs who's going to be left to vote. This is going to be Trump with fifty million votes. And then fifty million Democrats with one vote each. Now, we do have time to talk about Tim Ryan, but we have nothing to say about him. So instead, let's move on and talk about how the other Democrats in the race have a Spanish outreach program. That is no boy though, lost in translation, twenty twenty Democrats trying to lure Hispanic voters with Spanish websites. And evidently, these websites are really missing the Mark any Spanish website has a number of mistakes. And we'll begin here with the translation that talks about her announcing her run from inside. The Mississippi River, comma Harris's website here says comma, Harris, wasted her life defending the values of our country..

"Hey, get anything done certainly not going to get anything done in the middle of an election. So Mark Zuckerberg has got to get something done because asking senators who if they could would still be communicating through the pony express baseball. Okay. We'll be right back. What does high? Oh, Mun Tim Ryan Democrats aren't doing that could make Trump a one term president and does have any plans to become the candidate. Who makes it happen seeing if he has a big announcement to make live on the view next. So twenty sixteen Donald Trump flipped Representative Tim Ryan's home county in Ohio from blue to red for the first time in forty four years on the promise of bringing jobs back, but they recently lost forty five hundred jobs at one three billion dollars to the local economy with the closure of a major automotive plant. Okay. So is this democrat ready to take on Trump? But Sascha, please, welcome. Congressman Tim Ryan. Get into that that whole thing. I just said on a second about how the plant closed in everything but you'll run for office before. Yes, I mean, this is not your first day at the rodeo. So are you going to run again? So. This country as you all know talk about every single day here is is divided. And if I can just say that this has been going on a long time our country's been divided for a long time, and I can go back into the late nineteen seventies. When my father-in-law lost his job when Youngstown sheet and tube closed. He was offered thirteen months. Just bought a new house and go back twenty years. My cousin Donnie who worked at the local plant is last act at the factory was to unbolt the machine put it in a crate and send it to China, and I can go back just a few weeks where my daughter called me crying from school because her friend was crying to her her dad just got transferred at the local General Motors plant the kids had to move and my daughter called me, and she said you got to do something. And I said I'm going to do something and I'm going to run for president of the United States. And we're. Right. Make it a pistol right here on the view right here. First time ever on the show. Well done. If you look to my baby back. There is something to view not not type of bump. But like campaign bump what's gonna make you different? Because as Joyce said for the first time since nineteen seventy two Trump was the first Republican present to win your county. You've talked about a coastal domination. There's been a coastal domination of the Democratic Party where they've missed the rust belt states that Clinton did very well with Joe Biden's known to connect their what will make you different of the same thing. I understand that legacy of job loss..

"ABC. Later, ohio. Congressman Tim Ryan on how Democrats can win the White House. And if he's really thinking about running and to Raji EP Hansen on what's next for empire. So one of the many many awful things about the twenty sixteen election. And there are so many was how Facebook was overrun with Russian hackers trying to miss things up. Mark Zuckerberg who owns Facebook or started it. He just said down exclusively. Not that easy to say with George Stephanopoulos. Also, not that easy to say for an interview. And it sounds like history's going to repeat itself. Take a look after twenty sixteen when we saw with Russia tried to do and interfering in the election. We've implemented a lot of different measures to verify any advertiser who's running a political ad to create an archive of all the political ads. So anyone can see the reality is is that there's not like a single thing that we can do in say, all right? We put this in place. So now, they can't even try to tender fear. There are always going to try t-. It's not going to happen again. Well, what I can guarantee is that they're deaf. Gonna try. Oh, great. Isn't that? Great. So is this just just something we have to get used to from now on is this the price of free speech in these United States that that interview well-done, George, but none of his answers gave me any comfort and any realization that things are absolutely gonna change. It felt like personally for him. He was trying to punt the ball because all all these years over to the government because all this time. He's been getting the blame. Anytime. There have been privacy concerns or you or the Russians trying to hack into our elections. It's fallen on him. But this is his baby he created this company. And now in a way say I don't want to go to bed and take all the blame for this. So if I can just say the government needs to help me out here, which some argue is a great thing, and maybe this longer term, but it seems on a personal level for him. He's wanting to some of the pressure off of him, and on particular government right now is so anti regulations. Concrete would never regulate anything. They don't regulate. They hate regular. I don't even know what Facebook is. Yeah. When the internet. I'll give her seeing some of the clips tastic favorite quote of all time. The internet is not a big truck. It's not something you dump something on Senator Ted Stevens. May he rest in peace, but the government filled with a bunch of old people don't understand how this works. No. No. I'm just saying. It's a big problem. I don't think we've all had for a long time. I will say if base book and Instagram can see what shoes I'm looking at on Zappa's, and then send a little ad, and I haven't gone. Like, you can figure out how to figure out. Direct to me and target me. And by the way, it works. Sometimes seems to me maybe you guys know more about it than I do. But it seems to me that these Russian Botts still there. I we didn't let's say liberal thread or a liberal. What do you call? It a presentation or something. And then the first one that comes out is like a nasty we love Trump. And then you go to the profile, and there's nobody there. Yeah. Now, what is that? While the Mullen report did find that the first Russian bought, right? Yeah. And and the mole report certainly found that Russians did use social media. That was the first thing that they did they use social media. Can I target higher warehouses film with people in Russia that that do that all day is what they do? What makes me very concerned is according to the Pew Research Center, nearly half of Americans get news through Facebook. Jeff in about two thirds of US adults sixty eight percent use Facebook. So isn't the onus on Mark Zuckerberg to fix this? I mean, he became a billionaire using Facebook he certainly has enough money to fix, but it's also on us. If you watch that interview we to be. So listen, the the I mean, a government is this functional. Congress is instructional..
