"On this gun talk hunt, we've got our good buddy Thomas Allen back in the game and we're talking all things turkey right here on gun talk hunt. Hey, I'm KJ. Dedicated lifelong hunter here. If you've got an interest in all things honey, you're in the right spot. Whether chasing quail across planes Oklahoma or in pursuit of belt in the backcountry of British Columbia, you'll always find me on the hunt. Welcome in gun talk hunters. I'm your host KJ and hey, we're going to talk turkeys. And there is no better guy on this planet that I can think to talk turkeys with. Well, there's another guy out there that I'm sure is probably better, but none more well versed than mister Thomas Allen and it's been too long since we've had him on Thomas welcoming. Hey, thanks for having me again. You're right. There's probably a lot of better options, which you have low standards. So you have low standards. Yeah, I got low standards. So we'll just leave it at that. This gun talk hunt is brought to you by Ruger. Thank you for your support and range ready studios find your next range ready class at range ready studios dot com. We're going to talk turkeys because it's that time of the year. And I don't know, I guarantee you the bass are not moving up on beds like they are in Louisiana, up in Minnesota. No, there's no way. No, the only betting going on is me sleeping in because we're getting more snow and still have 35 plus inches of ice on our lakes, but yeah, that's disgusting. You know, you have to love winner to love it here. And the month of March, I would say we lived in Birmingham, Alabama for 5 years. March was a great time of year. Here it's probably the worst time of year because winter is close. You were so close. I mean, we're starting to melt. I had to shovel the roof off the other day. I mean, it's Minnesota problems, but you think bad with the good. And come April, it's going to be awesome. I will say, I will say this. I was shocked. Last week, when I saw a bass on the bed, and the march 2nd time frame, march 1st, right around the beginning of March, there was a bass on the bed. I caught it. Through it back. And I was like, you got to be kidding. They're already moving up. And last night, I walk out and I can see like ten beds all along all along the shoreline. It is glorious. It's probably about 84° right now, and they are just humming. I kind of hate you. You know our buddy Tim price, right? Yeah. I'm going to show you a picture here. We were out testing some new hummingbird gear and he slammed into a nice one. We'll see if it'll show up. On the ice on the ice, that's a great shot. Yeah. You took that picture? Well, yeah. Oh, okay. That's a good bath. That's nice. That bass had been deep, huh? Ten feet? Yeah. You know, it's a weird time of year because I leave in three weeks for our first in fishermen TV shoot. We're actually headed to Texas going to fish Sam Rabin, not too far from you. Definitely. For me to stop by though. Not far enough for me to drive either. That's right. But really, the whole process of our turkey season is underway. And you know, it does my wife said that this morning like, how do you juggle all this? And I said, you know what gets harder every year and Kevin, I know you understand. Older you get, the more involved you get with your children, just your career, everything, the way it progresses. It's hard to keep up on things. It takes an asserted effort to stick to it. The hardest thing about it is that you have kids and we find the same thing. Kids vie for that time. And it's time we're willing to give up because there's no better time because you don't get it back. You're not going to get it back. But it really sucks. Well, and with that, you know, my job centered around fishing. Thankfully, I love that part of it, but in April, this is the conflict of interest I have. I'm pretty selfish with April. I will, I will give the bare minimum to any kind of work trip or TV shoots. If I absolutely have to, I'll go do it. But I kind of plan ahead from about the first of the year into February, start locking up dates in April and listen. I'm willing to go anywhere anytime, work 60, 70 hours a week, a lot of the time, but in April, I have turkeys to kill and I'm not hearing that up. I will tell you this. So my turkey, my turkey hunting has drastically changed over the past. Is the past 8 or 9 years where my turkey hunting has transitioned from a nice private property that we could chase turkeys all day long on. And the next door neighbor saying, hey, you can hunt over here to now it's like, man, I gotta find public land. I'm out, you know, early mornings listening for those gobbles. Are there birds on that public land? And if not where they coming from. So my turkey hunting dude, it is drastically changed. Well, it gets hard and frankly, it gets tough to stay motivated if you're having to compete with other hunters and public land can be good. And honestly, I've just learned this since we've lived here in Minnesota. My dog is going to join us here, I think. Oh. Feel free to have folks. Don't worry about it. Public land can be good. Here in Minnesota, we actually, it's a number one state for public land access. Pretty interesting. I came, you know, moved from Iowa years ago. It's the number one state for public land access. And that's given any western states. Yeah, not counting, not counting Alaska, yes. Okay. I was like, oh my gosh. It includes your western states, Colorado, Wyoming, et cetera, but it's largely because the state makes tax forfeited land public hunting accessible. So there's kind of factor to them. Anyway, it's still surprises me how many people go out and even in a state where turkey hunting is not nearly as popular as everywhere else. The amount of people you see on public. So I go out of my way to find private and knock on a lot of doors. We've talked about it on this program before. It's worth the extra work, but it is absolutely work. And if I think that was, I think that was a last year's podcast that we did. Sometime around the same time in the spring, but Thomas has a very interesting way of going about a very professional way. And I think that that needs to be held in high regard because he doesn't have such a professional manner. It opens a lot of doors. So if you haven't listened to that podcast, go back in the archives, check them out. You can find all those on YouTube or Facebook or gun talk dot com. Well, let me tell you something about that, Kevin. This is interesting. I actually just was reminded of the story. This will be our third year on some of these properties and I'm expecting to probably lose one out of the 12 that we had last year. And Tommy and I especially Tommy got his driver's permit. So we've been logging the hours on turkey. Yeah. Yeah, I've said some bad words. Be old enough. A few years ago, he's 15 and 6, four. I mean, anyways, so I got to tell you this. This is a heartfelt indication of really why I enjoy the outdoors so much.

In fact, the song you are listening to here, some person is a bit of a sneak peek at Holly's jazz, a song that she record in Brazil with these zimbo trio. The song will be part of Holly Smith sings jazz, which is coming to the civic this week, as part of a cabaret season, and Holly joins me in studio. Good morning. Hey, at the civic. How wonderful is it to perform in the civic? I love civic. It would be my favorite. I wish it was cheaper for me to play them more often. This is a bit of a return to your roots then. How, you know, you did quite a bit of jazz growing up. Is that right? Yeah, so I chose to go to northcote college on the shore because of the sort of significantly famous jazz kind of program that they get there under the leadership of these guys singer, who was the head of music in he had an amazing reputation and everyone who's gone through northcote college under him of, you know, I've become pretty successful through these things. Life in Haiti has been one of them. It was obviously joining me with this show. Cameron Allen, up number of jazz musicians who have cancer in North Carolina and to him. So yeah, I started singing when I was 13. Joined the northcote college big band, so I was doing Jason big band performances as well as establishing a smaller combo group that I had. So we had a lot of success through toad on a JS festival that initial just festival and went over to mainly several times for the jazz festival over the so yeah, it was a really, really great encouraging kind of place to be for me, especially with school and being in different kind of genres of music that I was including, you know, like sort of more blows and JS type styles. It's so awesome hearing about people coming out of school who had that one teacher who was so influential. I think always if I shouldn't say this, but you don't hear their lot. You know, quite lucky to have had that experience. Yeah, I was super lucky throughout school. I had several really good teachers. I think if it wasn't for me, my definitely wouldn't be where I am today, but they specifically took me under his wing was still very close friends. We see each other often and he'll, I'm sure be coming to the show as well. The appearance of your father into jazz? No, dad was more blows and rock. So he was blues and rock guitar. So that was around. I mean, to be fair, I actually, when I first went to a singing coach, but I was thinking teacher, she was sort of helping me with where and just basically warm ups and stuff. And she said, you know, she's like, what kind of music do you like? I'm like, oh, you know, I love James Brown. Like right now, and like it James and really hold on, and she's like, okay, so like jazz sort of stuff. Because she was a jazz singer. So being all of a sudden it went from more of the blues type stuff that I like. I didn't do really standard jazz songs. But it was a really great way to learn singing, you know, just her technique involved in. I used to not really listen to too much vocalists, so mostly

Good morning and welcome 7 past 6 today back to London on the eve of the funeral, more alarm in the aged care sector over the danger of the lack of staff and can, and we're going to look at these culture reports for gang members that see the jail sentences reduced. We've got the new moves on productive land of course to stop the urban sprawls 7 guy talk the sport in the commentary box Richard Angela Marie olds. They joined the gang as well. Now the question around gender and sport is do we want to debate this honestly, all with the go to mechanism of the age wokeness and denial. We've got to study. From the university of technology in Sydney published in the British journal of sports medicine arguing that scheduling of major sporting events is 6th. Treating women's finals as a warmup event to the means sends a message this second class citizens very might have sort of stopped this. Now the key weakness in their argument is basically exemplified by one of their examples. They say at the 2016 Olympics, the Rio Olympics 25 hours of competition with scheduled for means of ints on the Sunday of prime time viewing versus two for the women. The keywords there are would have thought a prime time. The argument over pay and reward can be added to this debate as well as you'd like. And what the people who do these studies never want to say or admit is sport at the highest level has very open, honest instruction criteria. Those who earn the most, get the most and that applies to funding, wages, and time on the telly. Scheduling based on gender, like paying based on gender, is a falsehood because what the public wants pays the bills. Occasionally women's sport does brilliantly, of course, the England women's football team in the Euros brought the nation to a standstill. I think we'll take as a nation ini middle in the Olympic Games doesn't matter what the gender is, but professional sport generally is paid for by ticket sales, bums on seats and broadcast rides. And broadcast rights are paid for based on the numbers that watch, we watch more men sport than women's. Will that change? Good at change, hopefully so, but for now it hasn't. So we are sky TV recently for ratings around the black films Australia games. It took them two days to drum up the most tragic press release I've seen in a while, a full page that said essentially nothing, and certainly didn't contain the answer to the simplest of questions how many people watched. And they didn't tell us, well, they tried to fudge it because guess what? The numbers aren't that good. Yes, girls seeing women play will help. Yes, women winning will help. But as we grow these sports, let's try and be a little bit on a show. We about the realities and what funds them. A means final is scheduled after a women's final because of the bottom line because of the numbers, because of the fact that what pays the bill, not academics, arguing a gender ideology. News of the world in 90 seconds. Now, the cues are not abated all weekend. The atmosphere was, it was surreal. It's something that I've never felt in my lifetime, and I'm pleased I was able to make it with my daughter. Even though it was a 12 hours wave, it was so worth it. I don't know where else I would be on a Sunday. Is it possible we might have hit? A little too much coverage. When it comes to events like yesterday's vigil, where Harry's there in his uniform, people are able to see the dynamic between him and William, it adds almost something of a soap opera drama to the coverage that people can't help but find fascinating. One is clear as they've come from far and wide and all walks of life. What we're seeing, of course, is the arrival of President Biden by seeing multiple arrivals of heads of state. And that just shows the diversity of her majesty the Queen. How much she cared for everybody and how she always said people matter, whoever they are, people matter. Just in the archbishop is optimistic. She's going to unite more global leaders, hospital than at any point in human history. That is perhaps a moment. I hope and pray that they will reflect on their own leadership. Meantime states are at the migrant miss we told you about last week where Ron DeSantis had a Florida was flying them up to Martha's Vineyard and dumping them. That's caught the attention of Gavin Newsom out western California and Ron DeSantis is doing is disgrace. It's almost monstrous, and I say that not lightly. I say that quite thoughtfully. He's got kids. I have kids. You saw those young girls with backpacks, no older than his children. And now he's using it to fundraise. Ron's having none of that. The governor of California sent a letter to the Department of Justice saying, you need to prosecute Texas and Florida governors and all I can say is I think his hair gel is interfering with his brain function. Finally, what are Yellen's retiring from movie business he's 86 these days since he's going to stop filmmaking after completing his 50th feature film, which will be a French film titled wasp 22. By the way, if you feel a bit down about the economy at the moment, we'll talk a bit more about that this morning because this develop over the weekend of great note. You feel a bit down, I can tell you that Argentina's Central Bank, they've lifted their benchmark interest rate just the 550 basis points to 75%. Inflation, once again, there is the problem as it is here and all over the world, their inflation currently running at just a tick over 80%. Now that 550 basis points follows the 950 basis points in August. So you feel better about that now, don't you? 12 past 6. My name is Joanne. This is my father. I know what is happening with my body. Perimeter halfback Mitchell Moses has put on a clinic in his return from a head knock, helping his club to their fist in our premiership. Sorry, preliminary finals since 2009. Coach Brett Arthur sees Moses took every precaution when it came to his recovery, enabling him to perform Ed his beast. Weekends finally hear and it starts now. All the old sport breakfast with Morrison Mitsubishi seem it to be later rumors of soft burn roundabouts. Use talks it'd be. Yes, let's get right into it 7 minutes past 7 there is so much reaction still from this. This is the good bit. The regime. But we'll know the try. A lovely state. A lovely finish for two more long are the all blacks, 22, 13, so they're good. Aaron Smith, we kick it here from boden for red gathered. I will Jordan. I've set off. Well, you're not stopping him. Good night. Goodbye. Moves away and the old blacks have taken charge of this one. 29 13. Then this happened. Australians, menace to the fuse, the old banks ball crashed into ground legally done so. Wow, wow. What's going on here? Much here right now is changed the decision. It's an all black scrum. And Bernard foley is filthy. The crabs lying into my ear right now. He changed the decision was a wallabies penalty. Now it's an all black scrum. You've only got a certain amount of time to kick for touch. The leading to try to tune down the clock and have done so illegally. Big goal from right now. Well, Jordan, Jordan calves through, fall on the right, joining the 20 grand the one hour. 39 37. With time up, the old banks. What did it do? Well, as being so much conjecture over vet finish, everybody's got an opinion, and it's the beauty of us at the history will say that the orbex took the match 39 37. So across the Dutch we go in former wallaby and international orthopedic at Simon, what's your opinion? Well, I thought that was one of the great games. And Australia was Russia on the edge of a deserved historic fantastic victory. And it was just deeply disappointing that after a contest between 30 men, 15 New Zealand, well, whatever it was. The Afro contest between a fantastic contest between fantastic New Zealanders and fantastic is right in the end. The decision was decided by a pedantic French man. And it's just a PC that's such an extraordinary match. Should finish in that way? Do you think that there was enough warning from the French man Matthew reynal that he needed to get on and do something with it a bit earlier? Bernard foley? If you look at the footage, folly didn't seem to have any idea. But the wallabies behind him were going, come on, come on, come on. Get moving. So maybe, but look, the answer is the French man no doubt was technically correct. But it wasn't in the spirit of the game. And particularly when foley was actually in the process, he was one or two seconds away from building that ball. And really, so the matter is decided on one or two seconds it should have been decided like that. There was a very amusing tweet where they had in Australia. Finally, finally, the French have found a way to get revenge for the Australians on the submarine deal. Oh my goodness. So what are you meant to do that you thought the quality was good? Didn't frankly quite look like the all blacks. In terms of real wet teams, we know just ruthless. They make no errors in every scrums there and every line out there is that they put in. And it takes three or 5 minutes to bring down one all back that kind of thing. That's the look of the old blacks that we know. Last night, they looked like a very good team, but they didn't look like the domineering dominating unstoppable invulnerable to all works. We know if they look they look like a beatable brand of the old. That's even if we didn't beat them. But you have to be thrilled with the way that Australia are getting their game back up and how would you compare the quality of that match to what we see from the northern hemisphere save from Ireland or France. I just thought that that was a classic in Australia for a cricket match between the strider and England. Our blacks rise up because of the ashes. In rugby, if it's a brother slide, and they were in New Zealand is doing a hacker at you. It's the game of the year. Games of the year when you're applying the New Zealanders doesn't matter where it doesn't matter what the circumstances are trying to do. Generally, it's a good game and last night was a great time. It's just such a pity for us because we use the Australian expression on the bounds of our us for 20 years. In the blender slide, we just, that would have been to have been behind 31 1356 minutes into the match to come back and win would have been one to the ages and Delta electricity through the Australian might be community as it is. There's still electricity because by showing what they can do. It's just so disappointing that it is that way. And as I put on myself, somebody said to me on Twitter, what do you think? I said technically correct, but spiritually wrong. Spiritually after a tight panic struggle like that. It shouldn't have been decided by a minor franchise. Well, there we are. Pediatric simons, thank you very much for your opinion, and we'll have more on the aftermath of that political cap match after 8 o'clock from Corey Flynn from Brian ish, be from Tracy Nelson. And you can text us as well. If you're in the mood and put your thoughts on what you think should have happened, did the right thing happen. "Children with the disease. All that and worry about not being able to do the normal things like sleepovers, sports, all those things become so much easier. Keep museum and beautiful's annual cleanup week starts off today, which is the country's largest movement against litter. Over 60,000 kiwis are volunteered to take part so far, which has already doubled the amount from last year, chief executive hither saunderson says 300 tons of litter was removed by volunteers from communities last year, which goes a long way to helping the environment. To talk to Andrew kretzmann and Ozzy double specialist about 20 odd years ago, Andrew joins us from across the ditch Andrew, thanks for joining us across New Zealand on news talk to your beef. Yeah, no worries, mate. Good to be here. So you knew him before he was a worldwide superstar I suppose you played grand slams with them Wimbledon 2000 U.S. open 2000 as well in doubles. Just talk us through, I suppose how you became connected and played with Roger Federer as an Aussie he's obviously a Swiss headed up, had it all unfold. Yeah, mate, look, yeah, that is right. I had the opportunity to do that with roger. And that came about by I guess I was playing some good tennis that year lost in the final of the Australian open in the bevels and my partner decided to move on and play with these countrymen later in the year and I was just at in Hamburg of places at one of the tournaments and Rogers coach or I knew at the time and played a bit with came up to me and asked if I'd play with roger at the Wimbledon because he knew I didn't have a partner. So that's how it all came out there and yeah, what an opportunity. And you guys did a ride at Wimbledon as well. I know you lost in the quarterfinals, but you perhaps should have gone away but further is that right? Yeah mate, we should have, we should have gone past that. We're up two sets of love in the quarters. So ended up losing in 5 sets. Sort of pretty convincingly in the fourth and 5th set to a couple of very good players. But yeah, was an absolutely on applying with roger and having that opportunity. When he was young, of course, he lost first round of Wimbledon that year in the first two, yevgeny kafelnikov, you might remember his name, but he was a past number one player. And roger was ranked about 40 in singles at the time and traveling with his PlayStation still and it's a young fellow really. And yes, so great opportunity. What I saw from him was he just tried amazingly hard every point. You could see just from that perspective that he was going to be a good player. Did you teach him everything he knows? He says that, he's such a generous fellow, when I say him, he says, oh, this is the guy that taught me how to play doubles, but we all know that's not the case. But yeah, he's a very generous fella. So opportunity mate. So you could tell then that he was going to be something special in

"Of real-time intelligence in your contact center. Switching and saving with Geico Aziz, so you're free to ponder life's big questions, like is the word dictionary in the dictionary. If so, probably says something like dictionary now. A dictionary is the word you are reading now and the pages they were printed on. I'm holding a dictionary in my hands as I read the definition of dictionary. Yeah, it's probably something like that. Switch and save with Geico. It's easier than you think. Rugby, Australia, and look, I feel for them. They're still not happy with the time wasting decision by the riff in the first latest low cup match. What's the latest? So a bit of drama. I mean, it was very dramatic at the time at the drama just continues, rugby, Australia, have reportedly sent a letter to the world governing body over the time wasting decision by referee Mathieu raynal, which cost him the victory in last week's Bledsoe cup opener and the Australian newspaper claims a formal complaint has been issued. So we'll have to watch the space, but yeah. Do you think that's fair enough? I think so. I mean, we could talk about this all day, I'm sure many people have different opinions, but I think it's fair enough. Yeah, and just because something's in the rules, now I'm not comparing what happened to the underarm incident, but just saying that when the underarm incident happened, it was actually in the rules that you could bowl under them. "And new stocks you'd be sport good morning former wallabies captain John eels believes anyone writing off New Zealand or Australia in favor of northern hemisphere teams at next year's World Cup is making a premature assumption as a two time winner. He says you have to ask a couple of key questions and find a strategy. And how is rugby going to be played in 12 or 18 months? And how can we be the team that is defining how the game is going to be applied? What are the trends? And there might be 190° changes in how the guidance 5, but that will be the subtle changes international rugby with access solutions elevating you and your business to a higher level. The fallout from Jamaica is disrupted New Zealand's nipple tour may be found long after the visitors have returned home passport issues mean a three test series has been reduced to two, with Pullman arena stepping in to host the second test on Thursday night. The potential to sanction Jamaica for failing to meet the original schedule has been raised. Nipple New Zealand commercial boss David Cooper explains their position. I don't actually think it's their role to go down this path of sanctions. That is world Nepal's decision to make one side better look at what played out around the series. Half the Jamaican team arrive in New Zealand today, the remainder sit to turn up tomorrow. Keep away from fourth position by .2 second over the time that it meant that we wouldn't have been there. And equally, we could have been a silver medal with a similar margin, but those are the magic that we're dealing with in this day and age. All the good stuff like love tinnitus comes out of ten a central and Wellington now Davis Cup players are mostly funded by the parents. The people who can help the parents, et cetera, will have nothing to do with New Zealand tennis. It's been a sad old site. I remember years ago and I mean many years ago, 15 plus years ago, I had a conversation with Chris Lewis. And he was saying pretty much the same thing because my question was, what's the matter with New Zealand tennis? How is it we don't? I mean, we got courts. We got balls. We got records. It's not a particularly expensive sport. It's like any other sport you get a lot of kids playing it, but at some point they discover boys or girls or whatever and they go off and do their own thing or university studies or life or jobs. But what is the problem with us producing some half decent tennis players? And it all everyone I've ever talked to says the same thing comes back to the organization and the running of the sport. It's never been up to much in this country, which is a shame. 22 to 9. Use talks at the international correspondence with Fisher funds, specialists in managed funds and kiwi saver. And look, lifetime observers of the young bomb chucker, who was Anthony albanese. I mean, famously grew up raised by a single mom in government housing in Sydney's inner western suburbs, famously he said, I lived to fight Tories. And he was a lefty at uni left politics all the way through university and here he is meeting King Charles the third for a private audience. And why not? I mean, he's the prime minister of Australia, and he's made very clear that whilst he's a lifelong Republican. He wants to see the monarchy replaced by an Australian head of state, he does say that now is not the time if he's lucky enough to get a second term. And a lot of people say that should never happen over here. That's the time when the debate over the republic and the in fact the referendum that would be needed. The second term of a labor government would be when he would put it up. For now, he's very, very happy indeed to express our national condolences to the new king. And say, Sue Charles the third, exactly what his mother made to this country because she was a towering figure. Yeah, even, you know, even those idiot Celtic supporters who yelled at, you know, if you hate the queen slap your hands, you know, the queen was a towering figure of the 20th century. And she was ahead of state. So I think it's entirely appropriate, even helping these critics over here are saying he's doing a good job. What? Is your call if you held a referendum tomorrow? What would the result be? I think it would get over the line. It wouldn't stand a chance because such is the reverence in which the queen was told. It'll be different with Charles. I mean, what's he going to be like? Is he going to have pissy fits with fountain pens all the time? I don't know. Certainly his mother never did. And you know, there's a great deal of affection for the UK. Albanese is already met at Liz trust the brand new British prime minister. He says there's a great deal of the economic opportunity between Britain and I suppose Australia because of Britain's exit from Europe. But also, I don't think it orcus August the Australian U.S. UK submarine lines where that sits we're not sure but certainly there's going to be no ridiculous idea that Australia has to have a special Australian design. I'm not sure is it because they are sub Mariners of feta. I don't know. That's plagued Australian purchases of defense equipment for decades.
