"A lot in life is ball's trade deadline passed late this afternoon in here to help us figure out what went down is our great friend E._S._P._N.. Baseball analyst Tim Kirch and let's start with this the astros they land that grinky. How significant addition is that it was huge that separates rates the astros from any team in the American league clearly now the Astros in a short series can throw just Berliner Garrett Kohl Zach Ricky as their third starter that is so much better than anything that the Yankees have in their rotation and that's their main competitor right now now it also puts them right there on par with the dodgers top of their rotation? Should it end up in the world series. The Astros gave up an awful lot but not author top to prospects and they took on an enormous amount of money was that cranky but they are going forward and it is so refreshing today to see a major elite team say all right. We're giving up a lot but we're trying to win. Now Tim you mentioned the Yankees this stop with them for a second Yankees these and other teams that we expected more activity from what happened that they were not active well. The asking price in all cases was so high. Those teams said we're not GONNA do that. The Red Sox had to get a closer but the asking price for Edwin D as was ridiculous so the Red Sox said were. We're not GONNA do that. The Yankees had to add a starting pitcher but a couple of the really big ones Bumgarner syndergaard went off the market and they were left with a fourth worth starter our third starter say Ravi Ray and the asking price for him was ridiculous. The dodgers had to get a closer but Felipe Vasquez the Oh really good closer for the pirates. The pirates were asking for so much. The dodgers said we're not GONNA do this. These are our new. G._M.'s fell as they are going to sit there and wait in the sabermetrics say this is what that guy is worth and they are not budging from that and that's why those teams didn't do anything so going into free. Ah into the trade deadline the two big names the pitchers who are going to be traded Madison Bumgarner was going to be traded from the giants. Noah syndergaard was going to be traded from the mets that what did not happen what went on with that well miraculously. The giants have gone from a really bad team to a team that went eighteen and six July and then unbelievably unbelievably. They are back in the pennant race and their G._M.. Farhan Zaidi looked at their team and said how am I gonNA trade my best player Madison Bumgarner in in the final two months of Bruce Bo Cheese Hall of fame career in the end. He said I'm not GONNA do that. I'M GONNA keep it and I'm going to try to make the playoffs. It probably wasn't the smartest move but I understood what he was doing. And then of course there the mets who told everyone from the beginning. We're trying to win now. If they traded syndergaard they would not be trying to win this year which they're not going to do or next year so these were two teams in really difficult spots saying we have to win now so they they kept their best pitchers. We don't have to host Tony Downtown because the nationals got three relievers and also the braves get Shane Green from the Tigers so besides grinky. What are you see right? Now is being the most impactful deal of the deadline. Well Ashamed Green was today in the braves didn't just add him. They added to other relief pitchers Mark Melanson being one of them. They really did a nice job. The Braves Made themselves. I think the division champions today with what they did the nationals dwell too. I think the nationals are GonNa make the playoffs especially with what they did today today. But Atlanta made three really nice moves in the last two days Shane Green being the best of the three the nationalist can add three relievers and dropped nine nine relievers. It's okay with me. We will get you out of here on this. What teams now with the reset?.

"I wanna go with fat Chris because he'd beat everyone in a race Guinea, pigs scoot as for what was the first question. I don't you're on with Tim Kirch. Go ahead. Chris. When players call a players only meeting. Do they call it a players only meeting or just call it a meeting? I think it's a players only meeting differentiate from a meeting called by the manager. They have a team meeting is almost always run by the managers players only just clarifies it. But I get the redundancy thing bothers me to me it's a t and it's t- if you order tea it's implied implied that it's hot. So you either order t- or ice T. You don't go snow skiing. That's redundant. There's skiing and waterskiing. Am I right about this? Yes. Have Tim have the players ever told the manager and coaches, they're having a players only meeting just to get them out of there because they bother them. I think they feel like a more effective meeting is done when they're no manager, and no coaches around because and that's usually teams that aren't so great. But I always think the best meeting went everyone in uniform their players will disagree and say, we can be a little bit more honest. If the manager and coaches aren't in here does Brett Brown looked like a guy selling his backyard Tiki bar on Craigslist. Doris Burke looked like the divorce court judge who peers it you over her glasses with disdain as your soon to be ex wife describes what you do for a living. Does Huby Brown looked like the Butler who arrives one minute after the front door? Mysteriously opens on a haunted mansion. You look like that not as much as Chris game. And looks like that. But he looks like that. Great. The painted area. That you're on with Tim Kirk Zach go head. That for stoop falls here. Just wondering if Byron Buxton was at the plate newer on second who would get home. I. Wrong. I'm sorry. I got distracted by reduction. We're what he's on second base. If you're you're on second base, and he's on for and he has to go all the way around to home plate, and you just have to get from second to home plate who wins that race. Okay. I have done the time trials on this. Because they told me at war. No, Dave Flemming that Billy Hamill beat me from home plate with me starting at second. I did this by myself. A pathetic two year old man went to a baseball field and ran from second home. And there is no chance that Byron Buxton beat me, and I can't run anymore. And I'm terrible. But I can run from second home before Byron Buxton beach. I think the bigger question is can Byron bucks and beat Mr. freeze and he should race him in the all star game. No, Billy Billy beat freeze. And we need to suck known even up. I mean, even up. Because I know Mr. freeze is a sprinter. But I'm telling you Byron Buxton is a sprinter. Also. And I think that would be tremendous race at the also wait a minute, Tim, you don't because we didn't make it home plate. We had Buxton at first you're second. Oh winds at first. Oh, I'm sorry. I thought you said he was at home if he's at first, of course, he'd beats me to the plate, of course. Okay. Maybe I've got that wrong. I don't know. I confused everybody there. I was told on the broadcast. Billy Hamill beat me starting at home and me starting at second. If bucks Billy Hamilton. I of course, they're going to be the more. We talk about it. The more confused. I get does Paul finebaum looked like the evil scientists discovered amid the ruins of his laboratory after the monster. He created escapes from itself. Brian you're on with Tim Kirk and go ahead. Go ahead, Brian. Hey, hey, Tim. What do you hate Pete Rose? He's a much better baseball player than Babe Ruth. And second question is parties the most gonna fusing board game ever made. What you Pete Rose? Second time..

"He was Tim Kirch and said this on ESPN say, I totally agree with him. Mariano Rivera is that the gap between Mariano Rivera in the second best closer in baseball. History is larger than any positional gap in the game. He was that dominant. He was that good. His postseason numbers were. Absolutely incredible performance was amazing. He totally deserves to have one hundred percent support. He's just not the first guy on that list for me. Thoughts on Clements and bonds. What are your thoughts on Sammy Sosa Chicago's Sammy Sosa? You know, what I did not vote for Sammy Sosa because I did not think Sammy Sosa had a hall of fame type career. I know he had six hundred nine home runs. If you look at how he performed in the offensive era that he was in the three forty four on base percentage was a killer for me. I you know, the the whole point of the game is to score runs. Right. And the best way to score runs is to get on base and Sammy Sosa because of that. And because of the defensive deficiencies that he had just did not make the cut for me. Which isn't which isn't a crazy me. That's that's a good people that had that argument while you know, we wondered it's you're going with you to like they deserve to be in guys like bonds and Clemens absolutely deserved to be and it's too hard to parse through the steroid era. But I think it is more open for debate on Sammy just on the merit, and you know, the type of player in that offensive era that he was so that that's a that's a fair assessment of Sosa's prime years. We've got a week left here. Just over in January. Are we waiting until February before Bryson Manny sign? Yup. If it happens if either of them happens before February, I it's going to be because the team stepped up and said, you know, what enough of this. We're just going to get this done because we feel like bringing an elite twenty six year old into the organization is the right thing to do. I just don't think any team out there right now is motivated to do that when others aren't moving. I think there's just gonna play the waiting game. Like the waiting game has been played with every free agent. And you said I don't know if you guys saw drew Pomeranz to two years ago was seventeen and six three three year. Don't keep his terrible last year. But the upside is enough where in the past he would have been a guy who would have gotten a year, you know, seven eight million dollars signed for a million and a half with the giants. The market has just straight up collapsed. And and it's collapsed at the top. It's collapsed in the middle of this collapse at the bottom is that collusion, or is it just owner intrigue isn't just smart baseball people saying there's something in drew Pomeranz after a bad year. And as he's gotten a little older, we don't wanna make the major investment. I think it's somewhere in between probably more toward the. Ladder because the fact is guys I don't think that teams need to collude anymore. I think that so many of them think so similarly, you know, they all have a big computer that spits out value and values gonna vary. You know on a one year deal a million dollars two million maybe among teams, but they all have set idea of what a guy is worth. And and I don't think they need to sit in the smoking room saying, hey, we're gonna tamp down on salaries. I think they can do that naturally. And I think they have numbers tobacco up, and it's difficult to prove collusion when they haven't sat there and said, we're going to do this. They just know they're going to do this. The Yankees moving. Sonny gray was them. Trying to create a little more more liquidity maybe to go make a stab at Bryce Harper. Manny machado. They're not in on Harper. They you know, they're sort of on the periphery with Machado. And I think if Machado doesn't get what he wants from the White Sox or the Phillies or or the mystery team that still has yet to be named. They they may take a they may take a shot at him. But I think the great thing was more that he just was terrible Yankee Stadium, and they didn't think that he can pitch in New York. And clearly the Cincinnati Reds believe that centigrade is gonna bounce back because they gave him a three year thirty point five million dollar extension as part of that deal. So I it's an you know, when Lance Lynn getting three years and thirty million dollars. I think it's a reasonable bet for Sonny gray that the fact though that they gave up a guy in shed long in a first round draft pick to do it. They paid a pretty hefty price for real quick before that you always years that Manny still looking for from the White Sox or others. Is that what the holdup is right now is is it total comp. What is it? I think it's years. I think it's money. I think it's everything I think he looks in the mirror and says I play shortstop at a great level. I play third base at an elite. Level. I'm twenty six years old. I will hitting thirty five home runs a season. I'll have a nine hundred zero PS, and the fact that I can't get what Alex Rodriguez got twenty years ago. And I understand Alex Rodriguez was a better player, but revenues inflation adjusted have doubled since two thousand they've gone from five billion if you adjust for inflation in in two thousand ten point three billion dollars. Now, the fact that salaries haven't gone up even close to commensurate with that shows you that Manny Machado understandably wants more years than money than he's being offered at this point. Jeff, Jeff, thanks as always we'll talk soon. Okay. All right boy. Thank you. Jeff passan etch passing on Twitter. I like John Malkovich. Your pay him pay that man his money, man. He's worth that. You're on ESPN one thousand Cup.

Instead it's going to be David price going up against Clayton Kershaw dodgers with their season right there teetering on the brink. Here's core. We'll talk about it before the game. And this is a good spot for for David and nationally park to to start a game. Obviously, he's been thrown more. Well, now, it's not that we playing with the lead. But we feel that he's. For the team for where we had pitching wise is is good for you know, to go with David. We talk about it the whole day. And we decided I just talked to Krizan, David. And that's what we're gonna do Boston closer Craig kimbrel gave up a two run home. The processes for a moment. Terry wilson. Winging needed him to make some throws. You got it. What can you say about the way that he managed that second half? Very proud of him. This. It was about so much respect, Missouri. How hard they play. Does is hung in there. That's really big walk me through the decision on the play making of that final play whether or not you were going to give it to number twenty six or not. Well, we we felt like they were going to take him out of that equation and bring the house and zero blitz and Terry had to make up the role. We put CJ in there to get a bigger body. And he ran a good route and Terry hung in there and hit him. So this is a team that likes to thrive on the idea that they're underdogs in. They have something to prove what did they prove tonight? Well, we can't worry about that. We really. Wpro ourself and get better each and every week. And this is what we do. We find a way to win. "Joe, anything. Joe west related is like tickling. Sam you're on with Tim Kirch in go ahead. I know how you feel about shoes, but when you think shower, you actually like reached down, watch the theater. You dislike the so rundown and cared for a good question eight or you just let the soap go down there when you show kurkin. I usually wash my feet. It requires a great deal of bending down to do that. I'm not sitting down anywhere. I'm gonna bend down, wash my feet. I don't do it every time. I would said you opposed to. I want you all to drink that in. Thank you. Charlie, you're on ESPN radio with a Tim Kirk. Hey, Tom question for you. When you're reading a phone or credit card number to someone you like them to repeat it back to you number by number in chunks at the end or not at all. Very good question that is this excellent. I usually there's a rhythm to it. I if you're reading a credit card, I think you can go four at a time since it's three groupings of four I can handle that. But sometimes the phone number you give the, I threes light pause, you, gotta hyphen. Then you go, that you go. That's how I would do. The grouping is is what matters really thought this, that TIMMY at eight as Jacob, the ground been the best pitcher in baseball this year. Well, he's been. Yeah, I would say probably the best pitcher in baseball, though Chris salesman unbelievable, but he's got hurt a couple of times that healer as fell is is ridiculous. Nine pitchers since nineteen twenty have had any areas that low and and two hundred or more innings than the last the only had to do in the last twenty three years is that green tea. So I'm a big area guide Bill the best evaluate or on the pitches talent mo- Yemeni era that low. And so I gave with so few runs and somebody eating and all the strikeouts. I think he the Cy Young winner is nationally at the moment, could easily change in the last month with sherzer and Nola in the nationally. Texter writes in, do these callers realize that his name is actually Tim and not, Tom, don't get a show Paul, you're on ESPN radio. Oh, with Tom Kirk, go ahead, Paul, hey, Dan Levy show. But yeah, Tim, a what is the rarest playing baseball? Is it a unassisted triple play? And how many has it been. I'm not sure how many that been. It's I think it's six or seven. Mickey Moore and d Ron Hansen, Randy Velarde eighty Billy one gas, but that was I. That's four off the top of my hair. The other two coaching your no ex- somewhere. The other challenge charts audience coming fraud, you fraud. We have you on an expert every damn leak, and you can only come up with four of the names for the unassisted, triple play BUSTER would know foster would know BUSTER. I bet you. I bet you BUSTER only would know that Tom. I all right. I'm not sure the other one. Same. Remorse, shame. Thing is you realize we are marveling at the fact that you know even before right. No. Do you realize I realize that he's not how long I don't realize anything. I'm sorry. I hurt your feelings for the first time really. Like I feel like he thinks is an actual hole in his knowledge game. We're all staring him. How do you know the four name for six names? Who was that second name? You said. Well, I making more Didi Ron Anson's Randy Bilardo and Billy woms guys. Who did it like a million years ago? Yes, knowing you only ones. I know. All right. And Andy, you're on also by the way you could just check the internet caller. You could just check the internet on unassisted, triple plays, Amy, you're on with Tim coaching. Go ahead. Hey, bell, Kara freelance. Having such a great season. So the Rockies lies, no one talking about him nationally. I'm sorry, was that Kyle Freeland? She said, yes, yes, he, he's having a great year. He's a great pitcher, but there are three pitchers in the National League who are better than him at the moment. Nola Shire's are and Graham, and that's why we're not getting more love for.

"Broadcasting from the Mercedes men. K, I, I don't know if the as an organization they want the blowback that's gonna come their way. He's Dan Patrick, our two on this Wednesday, Dan, Dan, Patrick show spent some time I talking about why the nationals did not trade Bryce Harper. We had Tim Kirch in from the mothership on. I didn't see a framework for any trade for Pozzo from any team. Doesn't feel like there was anything that maybe caught there. I to say we have to do this, and I think the feeling was well, they're going to trade him because they're not going to be able to resign him. You want to get something in return for him instead of just a draft pick if he signs with somebody else, but nobody presented them with something. At least I saw in writing that said, we're giving you these players or these prospects, although I'm sure there are a lot of teams that were interested in Bryce Harper, but he stays there not out of the picture yet, but this might be a situation of this season ends and there's no postseason involved in this. And then the speculation will begin how much is he going to ask for and can the nationals, will they pony up for Bryce Harper? And he does have an agent in Scott Boris who has been user friendly with the national and vice versa. I think that they've taken care of Scott bores. I don't know if that matters to Scott bores. I guess it doesn't because he's going to look at the other players that he had. That's the those are deals that are separate from Bryce Harper. Let me see coming up a little bit. He finished last in the tour de France, but that's where the story starts with Lawson critic, a writer out of Texas, and he wrecked in the first hundred miles of the tour de France and continued to ride. It'll tell you why he continued to ride. That's really the story. So thought it would be interesting to bring to your tension. You know, you finished last in the tour de France, but you finished and that's really the key here. The nationals keeping Harper. They scored twenty five on the Mets last night. The NBA is going to partner with MGM on gambling. We will have the chairman and CEO of MGM. He will join us coming up a little bit later on this hour. I'd like to know what it means that the NBA is sharing this information, their statistical data. Atta Butch, it mean for you the fan, the credibility for the NBA and MGM is going to oversee this, but we'll, we'll try to provide some insights into what this means and you're going to be able to bet is certain states you can't do that. Can you do it over your phone? I'm not sure how that MGM would affect that because that's still that state by state that you'd be able to bet. But the NBA is ahead of all the other leagues they're partnering with MGM and the danettes did bring this up first hour, which I found. Interesting. Imagine if Roger Goodell did a deal like this with MGM that you know this integrity fee that the NBA tried to create that, hey, you know, we, if we're going to gamble, you know, we wanna be paid and integrity fee and magin. If you know the Commissioner did this in the NFL Roger Goodell then we'd be like, you know what? He's greedy or somehow we'd find a negative for, you know, Goodell doing this as opposed to Adam silver where like man. Man, he's forward thinking that guy's really smart. Everybody else is going to follow and the NBA has got a partner with gambling. Now, Johnny Manziel starts Friday night against the Hamilton. Tiger cats. That's the team. He was with a couple of weeks ago which is good before. I don't know where this, I'd like to see how he handles the good and bad more importantly, the bad when he plays poorly in in the CF l. but you know, I think we always look at this go, why don't you just go to the CF l. and play and then come back to the NFL. The CFL is so different. Just if you're watching the CFL and you gotta make things happen in two downs, not three downs, and there's so much timing involved in this that it's not one of those where you just walk in there.

"Tim kirch in was on sports center last night talking about the game we talk about baseball being boring all the time looking viewed it like that you might as well go home it probably took too long and it was imperfect on every level by that was intense baseball there for something that really really matter david ross talked about how the cubs playoff experience is enormous being in the postseason we're in last year the crazy twists and turns at that took this team has never quit attitude they believe in themselves all the way up to the final out everybody on that team is pretty much back we'll sit contrast pretty much led that team through the postseason last year he's your catcher the only got really missing is dexter fowler and you guys they're they're filling in like john j albad i'll mora was a part of that team in a big base running a game seven pick up a risk brierley we'd all the team there all i act so as it is defending chance and everybody talked about how young they still are but they've been battletested so the cubs move on to play the dodgers clayton kershaw we'll start for ala in game one and our friend bob nightingale is reporting that jose can tana will start game one for the cubs mark to share a was on sports centre with sanver at talking about the dodgers advantage i mean i think the dodgers are stacked right now the rested they're playing really good baseball they had that avi that sixteen out of 17 losses that i don't even know where it came from because you look at this team now the way they play the diamondbacks this is that great team that we saw for most of the season so for me the cubs there on an emotional high but they don't even know who starting game one and you've got clayton kershaw and the rest of that vaunted dodgers rotation kinda waiting in the wings here they're scoring runs they're feeling good they're arrested so for me i just think the dodgers have to play their game there are a better team on paper they just go out there play the game play good baseball i think they win the series.
