"Did there was still time to get a monkey man? Yeah, but you know that ten year timeframe ran out, but yeah, so I was twenty five, and I looked at the sheet, and like well. I guess I'd better learn how to swim and. So I had no bike I had never wrote a road bike before, and so I bought a you know I'm in Grad. School at the time bought one off of Ebay and yeah I mean. I swam a little bit as a kid? You know nothing, super, competitive or anything like that, but I knew the basics, but my first goal was to be able to swim five hundred ninety two point four miles right. So it was really starting from scratch on the. On the swim in the bike, and the Nice thing was is this was when I was up? working on my master's in. Pretty much alone and didn't know anybody up there at the time, and so I had nothing but time. To me, this is where it turns into really fascinating to me because growing up swimming, I know. There's an element of if you didn't grow up doing it your way behind the power curve, I think swimming is is one of those that is near the top or at the top of the list for that being applicable. So for you to to. Basically you're sounds like your experience in terms of swimming, as you could keep yourself from drowning pretty much, you know, and now getting to the point where you're winning North American national, or you know. Continent Championships where you've got swim to almost two and a half miles. That's fucking remarkable to me. Yeah what's called adult onset swimming syndrome. There's a name for it and triathlon, and it's easy to pick us out Yeah, it's definitely where I've had to put the most amount of work in especially early in my career and you know. Thankfully I ran into a guy when I raced ironman. Texas the first time afterwards US talking to me, I started way in the back out of the water and worked my way up as age grouper in ended up by thinks second, amateur, overall in the race and. He talked me afterwards like you'd be faster if you fix your swim. Blunt like that you know, and so I ended up started working with him. Tim Floyd down in the woodland's and swam with You know with his guidance and. Go over Christmas break. I'll go down there and we'd swim two three times a day for about an hour and fifteen minutes, and that's. I did that for two years, and that's when I kind of got to the point where I was able to sit in the pack. For me in again, having grown up swimming So, there's everything has technique, but there's there's so many nuances in swimming with stroke efficiency in your ability to move water and the whole pressing your buoy staying flat type of approach in mechanics that go into. Being a truly proficient world class level swimmer meaning. There's got to be you know a fair fair amount of genetics play a role in that too because. Like American. Idol like there's a lot of people that you just can't fuck and sings we. You know it's kind way with with women. Fuck with all sports for that matter, but swimming especially again because it's so technical, you know again just a I think it's..

"The worst end of the championship brought Tim Floyd had no players and no chance when he took over after the bulls six championship he said on the radio this week that in nineteen ninety six after the bulls and one number four he had a meeting with Jerry Reinsdorf who told him that Jerry Krause wanted to tear it down right then and there Floyd said he talked Reinsdorf out of it said you don't want to be the one who broke up the Beatles so Tim says he's taking credit for the titles in ninety seven and ninety eight Hey do you want something because they didn't do so well when he was on the bench but that it certainly wasn't his fault we had a lot of fun with Tim Floyd when he was in town a great guy and a pretty good basketball coach too although he didn't really really get a chance to show that offer the bulls no no it's still just doesn't make much sense to me I get it and I understand sometimes you want to feel like you're the big dog and change things around but when you have the greatest the greatest person ever do whatever he does at their profession in Michael Jordan find a way to keep things going way more championships and just let the chips fall where they may it's still a big question mark in my head I want to try to break all this up man he goes he goes that's why I let you lead I'm just the guy in the backseat yeah that should sure that's true you know we've all heard about baseball's Arizona plan about the Arizona Florida plant commissioner rob Manfred said today we don't have any plans we just have ideas but there is a new one floating around.

"Me. Well, Tim Floyd was writing to me. I was tearing up high school basketball courts all over northeast Kansas, fueled in no small part by all those rejections. Sometimes during my senior year, I'd only score twenty, but a lot of the time I scored thirty an accomplishment made all the more difficult. Thanks to the zones, the double teams and boxes, and ones that were engineered by opposing small town coaches by season's end average twenty five points and twelve rebounds shooting a nearly unbelievable seventy percent from field while also blocking four shots every game leading the state in both categories and we were winning. We had a coach who encouraged us to raise up and down the court. A point guard jed Traxler who transferred to our school before junior year who could throw me in alley youth and a three point shooter to take the pressure off the inside together. We took our tiny high school to the state tournament for the first time in school history. Surely. Someone would notice all of that. I thought. And so they did the university of Missouri, Kansas City you KC was interested. So was Wichita state and Drake university into Moines better, but still not the place I wanted? Sure. I'd written those letters to schools all over the country, but I hadn't given up hope on Kansas by March. Most of the high school seniors who are going to play college basketball, the following autumn had already signed their letters of intent or about to like a sophomore girl who's three months pregnant. I need to make a decision. So after we lost by seven, in the first round of the state tournament, I visited Dartmouth Harvard, the university of Vermont and the university of North Dakota at Dartmouth. I saw my first real party and I thought maybe Hanover was the right place for me, but then I came home and we figured out that my parents would have to pay fifteen thousand dollars a year for me to go to keggers with rich white people. Harvard was expensive to, of course, but it was Harvard or so said our families resident, Harvard grad, my uncle, Tom in Vermont, the coach told me he thought I could be a Rhodes scholar and at North Dakota, true to form coast k. made the competition. Look clownish, Lee, incompetent. My hotel room was filled with green and white balloons when I got to the gym on the scoreboard above a message. Read welcome Paul to the home of your future dunks. Here I was wanted. Here I would succeed here. I would probably become the team star, but at a division two school. After the visit, I told coach k. how much I appreciate it. Everything he'd done in that I'd miss him in the models. But the thing was one way or another. I was going to play division one basketball. He was disappointed. He told me, but he wasn't surprised. I might even be able to help. He said. Before taking a job at the university of North Dakota coach k. had been in assistant at Iowa State. When I told him to buzz off, he called Iowa State head coach, Tim Floyd, and told him about this kid, and no one knew about, but he thought was good enough to play in the big twelve, the sports conference that had just been formed by all the former members of the big eight and a half. The members of the southwestern conference Floyd had just given away his last scholarship. He had an idea though one of his former assistants was at southern Mississippi. Why didn't he put us in touch the next day I took a call in the high school library. It was the head coach, southern miss offering a scholarship. This was a little more like it a few days later I heard from the head coach at Davidson college in North Carolina. He was willing to fly to Kansas to watch me work out soon. After his visit, I went to Charlotte to walk the campus at Davidson, the smallest division one school in the United States, and the only one that's still did all of its students. Laundry. Then when I got back from North Carolina, two pieces of news, we're waiting after a little research. My mother had learned that it I was state status as a national merit finalist was worth a full academic scholarship. She'd gotten back in touch with the basketball office and Tim Floyd had started paying attention again if I wanted. I could come to Ames on that academic scholarship and play for the team. Technically, I would be a walk on a non athletic scholarship player, but Floyd promise not to tell anyone, but I was state would have to wait because the other piece of news was that Matt Doherty had called ROY Williams wanted me to come to Lawrence to talk. The night before the big day, I conjured various dream scenarios all of which involved roaring Allen Fieldhouse crowds Raef lafrentz than the jayhawks starting power forward high fiving the after Lael. Paul Pierce whose I practiced. I'd watched as a high school junior picking me up off the floor after I'd take an charge shock. Wban smiling at me as we both ran back on defense after I'd made a short jumper. In the morning, I put on my best Saint John's bay long-sleeve cursed the pair of Whitehead's that had made an inconvenient appearance overnight and got into the grand Voyager with my parents for the drive to Lawrence.

"Years ago as well where they lost their head coach tim floyd due to sanctions in every thing going on only louis pas rate there this is exactly the reason i got so much pushback from lsu fans on this who said they wanted to hire tim floyd before they hired will wade i said vis exact kind of stuff is what you don't wanted lsu right and that is what is followed tim floyd or on continuing the name tim floyd infuriated me again muse now where it again when i heard it because he would have been involved in this he was involved with this maybe not this exact thing right now they're not in dining him because he wasn't it and active head coach but this is the kind of stuff that he did continue seismic as much i mean it it it this is kind of you know patino his is always go going to claim ignorance and he's done this most recently with the hooker scandal going on those having sex with prostitutes in restaurants unlike how can we believe that he would be complicit in this like it's not possible is for him to partake in this like there's nothing about that that that shocks me when you have sex with prostitutes on a restaurant table after hours you're very capable of doing something like this come on it's very obvious and then the fact that he didn't lose his job then is perplexing to me a lot of ways no eyeball you know why you didn't lose his job because he's one of those legendary colds coaches you know if that was up three though if there was real wages use add example that was will weigh 210 that would wouldn't have a job in college basketball so it shows you what the nc aa in college universities are about if they have a coach that's gonna make them a lot.
