"TIME. 8 45 It's time for Sports Tigers back in action after having the last four days off, thanks to the ST Louis Cardinals in their ranch of Over 19 positive test. By the way, the Cubs have cancelled their Siri's this weekend as well with the Cardinals. So the oftime for the Colonel's because of the Corona virus continues. Detroit, though there in Pittsburgh, taking on the Pirates now C J Cron got things going off in the second inning. Ah, home run, put the Tigers out one. Nothing, Though. Eric Garcia's to be eye to R B. I single in the same inning. Put that pirates on top and then Garcia hit a two run home run in the fourth inning at 4 to 1, but but in the fifth inning, Tiger's got some help. Detroit scored on Austin Roe mine single, and they picked up three runs on back to back to back bases loaded walks. That's where we are right now. Bottom of the fifth, Matthew Boyd's on the bum for the Tigers their of 5 to 4 catch action over on 97 1 The ticket. Dan Dickerson and Jim Price have the call. Is Tiger Woods about to make a putter change?

"Talked again, we talked a good amount about him. He looks great. There's a lot of positive thoughts about his chances this week he warned in Oh five. He won here I think that he never shot higher than sixty eight and then in two thousand, nine, the President's covers here at harding park he went five Oh and so he has good history here he is still the. Reigning Masters Champion. Ugly, Fifteenth. In the world, some are trying to point. So some negatives like he's only played four competitive rounds in six months. I'm not focused on that I. Don't think he gives a shit about that. He showed up to Zozo championship last year in Japan and it felt like we had seen him play golf or any decent golf in months, and he's won that tournament in Atlanta. He showed up to the President's cup. We were there. We were physically there watch the entire thing. Play the president's coverage has several the best players in the world, their best player, the President's Cup in a landslide. So Tiger Woods smile and yet focused I like his chances this. I think he's come a long way since Monday and a lot of people's minds in that. All is incredibly exciting. On. Monday because. If we remember in the last podcast, you said, he really had no chance. That's true. Well, said, he's the favourite. Video and a you know with the weather and everything else that I would write this low on his list Jimi play whatever rig said because it wasn't that wasn't what we said and it certainly wasn't when said he was literally what I just you in you in the New York Post or two peas in a pod newer post tweeted out. Tiger Woods needs a miracle this week at the championship it was like what the fuck is going on and you know rig says similar points new. York Post. I said tiger. Woods is the favorite I said that on Monday show Tuesday show Jake will find that but I just ranked course and the the fact it's fifty five fucking degrees and narrow fairways. Low on the list of tiger woods majors coming up in the next four five years. It's not that hard. Of course, is not the art of course, I gave Frankie thumping already park last night. On the game. So it was like I I I could go out there right now in wooded. So the overall. Well I you know. I didn't realize we were GONNA play a marathon session of golf club twenty, nineteen I looked at the time we're finished up three and a half hours. My back was sore. I couldn't feel my feet like it's not built for endurance I'm just not built for endurance but I smoked you. At harding. Park. So I'm not too worried about art course conditions. By the way, we're not just a heads up just while we're talking about it. We said we were GONNA stream tonight, Thursday you're listening to it but we didn't realize that the coverage goes so late. So we will not be streaming tonight, but we will doing Tuesday Thursday next week. So be on the lookout for that. Last Tiger related thing new putter. About the new potter, he's got the Scott Newport. I think it's like the two point. Oh it's the one with the different weights and couple of different reports about it. Some saying he's definitely putting it in play other saying it's GonNa be a game time decision he. According to Steve Stricker, Tiger really likes it. It's a little longer in length with have been over as much. We can practice as putting a lot more which makes a lot of sense So that would be a good thing for the back and then another aspect of it is that apparently it's got adjustable wait we have heard for decades now tiger. Could just couldn't get the speed right or you know other Greens were little slower than I thought and I guess instead of having to make that adjustment in your fields or in your judgment calls in, you're putting in how hard it he can just tweet the weights and the Scottie, and that's what he likes because you know if the Green Bay speed them up from. Wednesday Thursday early days beat him up from Saturday Sunday whenever he can just kind of tweak the weights part of me going into this feels like well, tiger woods has won thirteen or fourteen major championships with that part of that is the elder wand. That is the thing that he flipped and spun in circles right in front of our faces that ad US bedazzled. Is the horn. Rocks. And any other usage of any other putter is not only blasted, but it's it's him searching a tim trying to find something which means he's not comfortable, and then the other part of me says, it's Tiger fucking. Would you give them a wooden stick? You give them happy. Gilmore's little hockey stick putter. He'll go out there and win because he's the greatest time you give them any driver persimmon would as a matter it'll just go out and win because he's better than everyone else and it doesn't matter So I'm a little torn on the whole thing. But it's Tigers putter. So everybody's talking about basically I'm just praying for success I mean, I do I think it's the right decision and adding and subtracting weights based on green speed that seems Like, if I'm just going to pick up a new tool every time when it's GonNa be different weight I don't think that I'm going to have much accessible but again, I'm not tiger so I'm not so keen on that. But Hell. If he's got confidence conferences key and if he thinks that's going to help them make more. Than you know play with a hockey stick or whatever. You just said you know so. Tricky one, but you were rooting for dagger. But I don't like I. Don't I'm not as doesn't work for me and I'm not a fan. I am not a supportive of the change I want that other potter to just pile up major victories and lurch. You said what I was GonNa say where changing the way day to day on a putter seems like a nightmare scenario I get that stegar woods. He's the greatest Golfer of all time but I need everything in my bag and again I'm not comparing myself to tiger woods but I need everything to be. One way just needed to be the same all the time. So messing with putter way just seems like a crazy idea but again, if he likes it if it makes him comfortable, that's GonNa give them better chances week. Thank God.

"And finally, golf's first major championship of the year starts tomorrow. It's the PGA Championship at Harding Park in San Francisco. Tiger Woods is going to be in the field. He thinks it's going to be really weird, not having fans lining the fairways and the greens at a major, that's Ah Unknown. I don't know if anyone and Our generation's ever played without without fans in a major championship, it's gonna be very different. But it's still a major championship. "President based operations, expecting that he will brief the media here shortly again. What we know is that this morning First reported that the Cardinals Have another positive test. Reportedly a player that brings them to eight players and six staff members. Cardinals and Cubs tonight. We're postponing the whole Siri's has been post pawn. The Cubs. Are headed back. To Chicago. Tonight. Tomorrow and Sunday will be games 89 and 10. That the Cardinals miss consecutively. And we will bring you the latest As this story develops. We will bring you the fact as we learn them, but that is what we know. Right now, But we're hanging out if you want to call in if you wanna chat. If you want to talk PJ Championship Tiger Woods on the course right now, man, I love these West Coast majors. Because it's so great. Tohave. Prime time major championship golf on Get another couple of hours of this is Tiger, Justin Thomas and Rory. Brooks Capta. They're all about making the turn at TPC Harding Park. I love watching majors that public courses to like TV, see Harding Barker, Bethpage. Whistling Straits in Wisconsin, although that's just a different beast. But No courses. You can go on play. Got buddies in New York. Who play Bethpage and you play the black course all the time. Get in line and Good luck. I also totally believe. In the correlation between these big time events being on in Tiger Woods plane and then people wanted to get out and play because I've played a ton over the last couple of months. And this weekend. Especially tomorrow. Times are tough. Compared to the last few weeks in the last month or so. They were tough when Courses were opening back up and people were getting out. But they are really tough tomorrow and I bet that's a tone of people wanting to get out and play. And then saddle in and watch the PGA Championship. Thomas dialed in it. 4367 900. Tom, What's going on here on came Alexe. Aye, aye, aye. And I heard people talking about the baseball bubble. I just wanted to run it by. I think I have a concept that would work, But I'm sure Ah, we're going to be pitfalls, but You know they're talking about playoff bubble. Now we get that far. But what about you could have been a bubble for each division right. The street division's using this Central Division as example. You got the car nose in their division again. Nationally, Central's got five teams America, except it's got five teams. They're the 10 teams are playing each other, right, correct. So so doing the math. I figure you only need to stadiums. You play three games in one stadium there during the day and you play, too. And the other one. And for the East Coast, you had the choice of either Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. That would be that could be a bubble city about Larry and you got in New York City. Got the Mets Yankees, then a nationally, could you Chicago? To Cairo come sky white socks. The West Coast. You had two choices in the Bay Area or the area. Angel Daily Dodgers are open and dying, so that would have cut down. You know, they would have stayed because they're only playing those teams so that could have been the bubble that would have been. I mean, I don't think about that all along, and I didn't understand why they didn't go and I know the players did want to travel. And I know there's there's probably a huge cross there, but but it sure would have cut down. But then again, the carnal seem to be the only team that's been having a problem with this, besides tomorrow and tomorrow and seem to got by it so But I just want to run it by and see what you thought. Yes. You need five games a day, so You'd have to play it probably Oh, I mean, the issue would be getting three games in one ball park in a day and then getting all of the like. You have to get all of those guys out. You'd have to completely sanitized and disinfect you would imagine the clubhouses. A dugout. Anywhere that those players or any personnel is. I mean, like, I just think it's It's really hard to turn around that much baseball because I've been over at Busch Stadium and I've seen what they have to do and what they did to get that ballpark ready before they even had any baseball and I think that's the challenge. Tom and You know there's a follow up then I guess the other challenges If you have any then positive tests popping up. Then you're in real trouble with schedule at least right now. Theoretically and put the Cardinal's aside for a minute, But everyone else the Marlins and the Phillies and everyone else affected by this. The Brewers and the Tigers. Because they have the ability to travel within their geographic division. It makes sense and you have the ability to start making up these games if you had to start trying to cram doubleheaders in To, you know, And and And what if you have four or five days of bad weather in Chicago or New York, you're sunk. So I I understand what you're saying and I imagine that something like that was discussed. That's that's almost kind of like how they talked about maybe having a bubble in Arizona and a bubble in Florida. Remember that? Oh, yeah, I kind of have everybody there, you know, And it's also I think just harder to bubble in big cities you're talking about you have to, you would essentially have to reserve an entire hotel for three months. Because if you have 10 if you have 10 teams You know, the cardinal will help the economy going anyway, theoretically, but it's just, you know. Another challenge. I totally get what you're saying, though, And I think yeah, that's that's the most ideal case, but you know, they went over a lot of scenarios and just with this, many teams having a play 60 games It's really, really tough, but not totally totally get what you're saying and If they can get through the regular season. I think that if anything, maybe they'll have more data from the N B a in the NHL, and then maybe they can figure out what kind of a bubble would be realistic for the post season, man. Hey, Can I ask you another question? Real quick, So I gotta take a break. But what? What do you think's gonna happen if the Cardinals miss many more games and nobody this Assuming nobody else gets sick, and I mean any other teams, you think they're going to start They're almost going to have to start forfeiting. Good question, and I've seen a couple things circulating. I don't know about forfeiting, but I will answer you in a second. I do have to brake. But, Tom, I'll get to that in a second, because that will be I'm sure asked to John Mozeliak as well. Tom. Thanks for the call, Man. We'll take a break. I'll be back in a moment. We'll get to that. And more still hoping to hear from Oh, Chris Robby hanging out till eight o'clock to pop up show just like you know Eddie Murphy at the Improv shop Back in the eighties on KMOX. Hi, Carol from l A here when we rescued Sadie, our shelter said she was a lab mix, but that didn't seem right because of all of her energy. So we decided to test her DNA with embark. AP Switches to Sony

"This is digital story podcast number, seven, forty, nine July, twenty, eighth, two, thousand and twenty today's theme is. Resting on your laurels can hurt you. AP Switches to Sony. I'm Derek Story. Prior to the murless revolution, cannon had the camera industry pinned to the Mat. I remember attending an invite only precedent at. Back in the day and marveling at their confidence and swagger, and for good reason, they were dominant. But soon after serious tiger FY began to evolve away from the DS or and cannon was slow to innovate. In just last week, the Associated Press announced they were switching to Sony for all their photography and video work. That's Today's top story on the TV S. photography podcast. Change has been in the air for quite some time and I. Just you know you think back on things you know little stories that you read here things that you hear there and pretty soon they start to add up to something. Big and something big has definitely happened with the Associated Press deciding to switch from cannon which they were using primarily of for their work to Sony for everything for photography and video the whole Enchilada. Now those little things I was talking about four example. I remember reading a story a few months ago. About it was a hearing the government hearing and DSL. Ours were deemed too noisy to shoot during the proceedings, so the DSL are photographers were asked to do not shoot except at specific times, so they were basically controlled when they could take a picture. On the other hand, the murless shooter. Room time and it was a Sony shooter ironically. was able to shoot at will, because he was able to set his camera so that it made no noise whatsoever and I. Remember Thinking about that story at the time, I'm going. Wow, look out for this right. If you're in the world of journalism, look out for this and sure enough Not that long after we get this big announcement now many of us. US Are Mere Lewis shooters. We can imagine the benefits of these cameras over DSL. Lars during the daily grind of reporting I mean don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure this out. murless cameras are lighter. They're more agile and they are definitely quieter as I just talked about so if you had to carry a bank all day every day, would you choose? Realistically, what would you choose? At the same time while you know, we're sort of figuring out that we value our backs in our shelters and our necks, Sony continued to add necessary pieces to complete the professional photographer puzzle. They launched their professional service which by the way associated. Press has expressed great confidence in Sony's ability to deliver professional services onsite during major events, so they launched that and they got it going in. They did it well enough to get the. The confidence of the Associated Press they put long white aperture telephoto lenses in the roadmap, and they carefully integrated stills and video into the same camera system, and this becomes really one of the important aspects of a peace decision to make the switch and I have some quotes for you coming up here in just a minute about a week ago, they officially announced a AP did that. They're switching to the Sony Alpha system. The quote with hundreds of staff photographers and videographers around the world and thousands of freelancers who contribute the is a massive entrusted source that covers both the expectant and unexpected, and they're going to do that with Sony cameras so when I have here I, did some research about the discussion you know basically most of the quotes are from a director of photography, also the deputy managing editor, so David is the director of Photography and Darryl is the deputy managing editor and from two different places. We're going to start out with some comments that were captured by the director of photography. On an article in DP. Review DP review, and I have the link to that article in the show notes. The articles titled were confident that they can deliver. We talk with a piece director of photography about the switch to Sony the link is in the show notes there. Here's a few of the. Comment on them and again. This is the director of photography. "You're like you're like. Drinking from a fire. I'm apple. Ramp Myself Up I. was I can't take a nap on your show. That's for sure. I want to demonstrate something because there's a saying at least in Hollywood I'm not that far from it even though we're all isolated. It's better to show than to tell so. I'm going to demonstrate something far. Listeners in for you about how to be more influential. One of the things unfortunate to do is i. On on break now, but I breakfast would Larry King every day. Although we're doing zoom calls now and something. I've noticed about Larry because Larry eighty-six. He's still going strong. Still has a show. It streamed call Larry King now on home on the on the Internet and something I've noticed what has made Larry's such an icon. Is. Here's A. Plus after. and not a minus sir, and not a topper. What that means is when he listens to people. He adds to what they're saying. He doesn't a minus it he doesn't. Get Defensive. He doesn't give advice. He doesn't give unsolicited advice on his shows, so nobody's afraid. They're going to get a GOTCHA. And he's not a topper. If you say I if you say Oh, I went to the mountains, he he's not going to say oh. That's very nice. You know we went to Europe. And, so I'm going to be a plus to something. You just said I. Hope this will add value. You're listening because you mentioned something about training and I was thinking as you were talking about and I'm. And I'm reminded of a fellow named Dan Sullivan. Dan Sullivan found something called the strategic coach and part of what Dan said is what life get comes down to his habits. Happy People have different habits than unhappy people. Successful people have different habits than unsuccessful people. And he said what a habit is is it's a discrete piece of behavior that you repeat over and over again until it becomes a habit. And it takes about a month, and in other words you train on that and you repeat on that takes discipline, but over time you internalize it, and it becomes more natural, and then you can learn another habit now why this is important under stress because I'm am a psychiatrist, but I'm also a passionate about neuroscience. Is. What happens is when we're under stress and who isn't. We have you've all heard of your adrenal glands? And what happens is your adrenal guns. Put out something called Cortisol. High Cortisol is high stress and what happens is your high cortisol triggers something in your brain called your middle and Migdal as part of your emotional brain, and when that high cortisol goes up. What happens is it triggers a migdal hijack and what that means. Is Your Migdal shunts blood away from your thinking brain. Into your survival brain and guess what taps into your training. It will tap in to what you've been trained to do almost automatically. Do you think NBA stars when. They think between shots. No, it's training and they've been trained. What what's the saying? It May Have Been Stephen, Covey senior, or someone said you need. What is it ten thousand? What does it take to be come an expert? He said was at ten thousand hours. As a ten thousand hours or know that's probably more training in many of us however. Yeah thousands of hours. Thousands of hours and what happens is you become an expert at it, so you don't even have to think when you're faced with a situation, so I can't emphasize what Jay is saying. Strongly enough train train train train so that you have many many options, no matter what something whatever is. Facing you years ago I, was a fan of tiger woods during his heyday, and it was interesting when someone asked him. How do you play around the Gulf? He says. I've hit every shot possible ten thousand times, so he's an expert in every shot. He said every time I hit a shot. I don't race ahead I. don't worry about it because I know. I've trained and hit whatever SEAN I'M GONNA face. Ten Thousand Times and he says what I do is i. just you know, have a nice walk dot, breathe and feel okay. Don't worry I get on top of the shot I. Look at where I'm GonNa next hit it I know I've hit it at ten thousand times. I look at the ball and I. Just say one word execute. And so I love what you're saying about. The Training Training Training and And I know for a lot of listeners. In these times you're overwhelmed. OVERWHELMED WITH! I can train and I'm just trying to make it through the day. I'll tell you another bit of training. That I learned from a friend of mine. His name was Bob. ECKERD he was the CEO of Mattel. And I asked I asked Bob. How do you deal with stress? and. I'll tell a quick story if that's okay, sure absolutely story. So he told me. He said that before he wasn't Mattel and he's left Mattel. Now is an investment company, but he really turned mattel. Ron Big time. And he said before that he was the CEO of Craft in Chicago and when he started at kraft, he was I may president of the cheese division. And in two months time, the dairy prices went up. And so craft, Gary. Prices went up, and then they went down, but it was written into the bylaws of craft that they didn't lower their prices, so the independence lowered the prices when the prices went down, but kraft didn't. And he had no say over that he was just the president of the division. He unwritten all the protocols, and so the newspaper there was all these headlines. Heads are GonNa Roll at craft. It's going to be the end of craft. Because Cheese was a big division biggest. Division. And he told me he said you know. I was just in a funk and staring. Into the TV screen on a Sunday and the. Coach of the Cincinnati Bengals Sam Wash. And taken the Bengals to the Super Bowl two years earlier, they'd lost, but he took him to the Super Bowl. But this year they had lost ten games in a row. And Bob said I'm just staring at the TV. And the report says to. Sam, so Sam. What are you GONNA do. You're going to be fired on Tuesday. What do you think about that? and Bob said it was as if he was speaking to me. Sam Weiss looked out on the television and said. You know what I'm going to be fired. On Tuesday I know I'm going to be fired on Tuesday. Everybody knows I'm going to be fired on Tuesday But, that doesn't matter. What matters is what can I do between Sunday and Tuesday to make the Bengals a better team? So what Bob adapted I think it's a great philosophy to get through stressful times, and he used it to get through rough times at Mattel. Is. He said before he goes to bed. He says to himself, and he writes down. What can I get done? That's different. Than what can I do, but what can I get done by the end of tomorrow? To Make Mattel, a better company. What can I get done by the end of tomorrow to be a better husband to be a better dead? And when you write that down when you train yourself to get into that habit to it for thirty days, it'll become natural. You can go to bed. Easier, you can change it when you wake up in the morning, but again it's one of those trainings. What can I get done? To Make My. To make my team more successful to make me were successful. If I'm looking for a job to be a more effective and looking for a job so right that. That question before you go to bed. Train yourself to do it. And you might be able to get to sleep without having to take some of those magic. His name is Dr Mark Allston. A. By the way I did not know he was going to do this and it was better than I could ever. Swore. WE'RE WE WE? I know we're. GonNa talk about this book real influence. And it's fantastic, but what you're hearing is the heart of the man, and he is absolutely fabulous. He's going to be with us for the next forty minutes on the

El Hilo: Walking to Venezuela

"We are back with translation from NPR Gregory Warner. You could say this story begins with a coat of house paint. There's a New Year's tradition in Venezuela to repaint one's house. Every December the holdover from win Venezuela was one of the richest countries in Latin. America families had money for these sort of luxuries. Caroliina order pays out, remembers the very first December that they did not have enough money for paint. The But I in her husband Orlando took it hard. Anthony Maheen NOPAL blessed, don't. Like US Orlando Pimentel was a civil servant at Venezuela wet, a lot of people working for him. He led an anti corruption investigation unit in the work. Itself could be frustrating. He'd collect all this evidence of corruption. No one would actually go to jail to instead. Orlando put his creative energy into cooking. His sons sort of Foodie. and He loves food, says he loved not only planning the meals, but serving them is a person that you would invite to your house for dinner and he ends up taking the Apron and taking the the knife from you. And you're like. Hey, how're Landau? Invited you. The economic crisis in Venezuela it started years before, but by two thousand sixteen, the signs were obvious. There were shortages of almost everything and massive inflation, which meant that Orlando salary stayed the same, but the money Bob less and less, you see your salary, becoming solid and water every month and every week you go to the supermarket and price gets up and up and up. Orlando and KARLEENA would ask themselves. Should he leave and seek opportunity abroad? The so many of their friends had done. So many professionals and teachers and other civil servants had gone to Peru or Colombia Ecuador to find whatever work they could and send money home. It was easy to see that the country was getting empty. Every night when you see out of the window and you see just a couple of lights in the building that in front of you because the rest of the apartments are closed. Caroliina was worried about him leaving. She read so many stories about xenophobia. Get yet his. Lesson Foyer Servant Selana. Backlash to the flood of Venezuelan job. Minnesota Norway Orlando she says was not worried about xenophobia. She says he always only saw the good in people, but that was also her worry. That will see see if went up on. Engine to others before paying attention to himself. What is it a comparable Bundy McGinnis moisture? Said we sal Tacoma goal set on. Orlando says the reason he stayed so long was because he just loved Venezuela, and he truly hope things would get better i. think he was kind of resisting. He was coping. He was trying to say okay. Let's try to do this. Let's try to find a second job. We call it. which is doing a lot of small jobs in order to survive? This has been chasing tigers or was it. Yeah, he's killing tigers. Why is it called Killing Tigers? Because it's so hard? I, don't know where the expression from because it's not easy to kill a tiger in my. Okay brief tangent here, but we kinda got obsessed with this expression, which at least one Arjun story traces all the way back to a blockbuster hit jazz tune from nineteen seventeen tiger, rag. It's a really hard song, but it was so popular that musicians were made to play several times a night, so you'd get phrases like they still haven't paid me for last month's tiger or killed the tiger again last night, and from there at least story goes came expression killing teicher doing something so hard that you have to do to pay

"So if you're on twitter and you follow Scott Wanda Sykes who is a good day yesterday. So they went out it on social media so Wanda was defending Joe Biden so ended up being a whole political thing that I'm not going to get into because we don't talk a Lotta politics on this show. There's a reason for that. We want to give you a break from that but Scott ended up calling Wanda a hack liberal. Gosh and then Wanda explained her position and she's like oh I'll let you get back to whatever it is you do. Nobody knows do anymore so she was kind of coming at him and I think he was trying to be funny or he was trying to really jab her inches like oh good for him. Made a joke. Comedy AIN'T EASY. Can't fight wander me. That's funny so what does He. What is he doing. I mean I'm sure he's made you know money with Happy Days. Charles in charge and Charles. I WANNA say they got back together but I could be wrong. Idea he's He's really a radic. And I like behaviors like that. They wear you down and so he's just an and that's one of the things with social media and him as he he gets on these political rampage and then people are like okay. Dude like Sop we get it like. He's one of those that just doesn't let up like until you believe what he says till he gets his point across. Beats it into your head and it's it just as unattractive years ago. And I guess Wanda Sykes used to be really good friends with Roseanne Barr and then when Roseanne had that whole Ambien tweeting racist thing that she went off on you know wanted ended up cutting ties with Roseanne and then Scott took issue with that. He's like Oh really. You're not even going to give her a break you get. She said she was on Ambien. And so yeah it got messy yesterday so people are like a random feud Scott wanted to sign. "One. Frankie and jess show podcast here on iheartradio. We get into what we're talking about, so this is a story I heard about it yesterday and saw a little bit more of it this morning and you know you take. The some of these stories with coronavirus grant salt, but there sounds like there's something to this. It's a study that they've done with men and they're talking about the length of. A man's ring finger actually. Has Something to do whether you're more likely or less likely to die from growing virus. So the same with this study, men who have longer ring fingers have a reduced chance of death from the coronavirus infection. They're saying that are more likely to face mild symptoms. Researchers analyzed I guess about two hundred thousand men. And women forty one countries, measuring the ring fingers in relation to their index finger The research showed that a ring finger longer than the index finger met longer lower fatality rate. So has something to do with. The womb right? Yes, exactly something some type of A. Protein or something in the Yes. With the in the womb, see if I can find that. It was so connected to more testosterone exposure. So the theory is that longer ringer long ring longer. Ring fingers are connected more to talk to saas to on exposure in the room that creates a compound that helps fight the virus so. In a weird right? That's really interesting story so a little bit more with Mary Kate and her soon to be ex, oliver or Olivier I. Don't know how you say his name one of the two Oliver. Maybe IT'S A. Fresh. Yes, so maybe. so they're getting a divorce and it sounds like it was over kids. Yeah, and it sounds like she wanted to have babies, and do they have kids together now he's he's done, so he's older kids from his last marriage. So I didn't wanted to have more kids, so it sounds like she wanted to have kids. Yeah, he's done, and it just got bad and it got really bad something. That's very common with with people just in general in a relationship you know whether you're not on the same page with having the kids who are like adding to the family. You know where people you were saying that you know some people that fall into this as it right now that they're. They're of dealing with this well and and I've statistically who knows, but the people that I know in the you know stuff that I've gathered. If the woman wants the kids depending on who she's married to, she ends up getting him because I have a friend. Her husband's one kid and we're done one now. They have four cheese and she just kept talking into. Issue would alter her birth control. Games alter the birth draw. Yeah, so. That's what's messed up about that as if she's doing that. The husband probably doesn't know in girl friends and family members. Do know you know that I. Bet I'll bet that he doesn't house. clueless didn't know she's running the show. Lewis that's messed up and there was another couple..

She told the sentencing comes down I'm hearing as of this morning because of Cova Ed and that their offenses aren't extreme. They might not even serve time a really. I said that the thirty three points that all she scored in the first half against Bama on Saturday were more than they had scored in the whole game and eighty one of the previous. Yes eighty three games in the series one of the Games where they scored more than thirty three was and two thousand seven when Lsu National Title Forty One to Thirty Four Matt Flynn Two thousand and one was the other one L. She'd Alabama thirty five twenty one and the quarterback and I came was Rohan Davey and this was the greatest passing performance server and Lsu Game Stephane he literally five hundred and twenty eight yards passing literally. And there's a receiver in that Game Game Josh Reed. Who went on to be at first-round's? NFL Pack who had a two hundred ninety three receiving yards. Ron Davies was Such a fun one player to watch. Did he have. He was rafted by the Patriots. Either not have much of a professional career if any But he was fun in college and that's Okay Rohan Davey. We celebrate you on this joyous day. Stephan was your Ron Davey Jason Lockenfora. Yahu reported over the weekend that Amazon. Founder Jeff bezos is interested in buying NFL team and the NFL is interested in having him by one. The billionaire has apparently been getting palsy with various. NFL owners and with Commissioner Roger Goodell no teams appear to be for sale right now but the seahawks and the broncos could be on the market after the deaths of their longtime owners owners Paul Allen and Pat Bolan. The fazon of excitement. Here isn't that America's number one guard is looking to join America's number one oligarchical sports league after all. NFL teams are so expensive. At this point that there are few potential buyers. No the Fazon is that Amazon is opening a second headquarters outside of DC and bezos moving into a mansion on St for which he bought and his renovating for a total of at least thirty. Five million dollars. Now let me pause. Here Josh rushed to say that the spruced-up place is to have according to the Washingtonian magazine twenty-five bathrooms five lounges. Two elevators and a sizeable ballroom. Oh Room plus one thousand six light. Fixtures six dishwashers and forty-eight smoke detectors and for gas fireplaces five bathtubs dubs five refrigerators thirty one bathroom basins twelve kitchen sinks. Jason Lockenfora story says that Amazon's new office hub could help Snyder. A new stadium built inside the city because Amazon might be willing to sponsor it that would really suck. So I'm going to invent a tastier scenario. The bazo says buttering up Goodell and Snyder to get Intel so that he can pivot and make an offer that goodell would force snyder to not refuse and Goodell should undertake this plan. Not just to finally get the incompetent snyder and his racist team name out of the League he should do it for a third reason to fuck with with Donald Trump. The Canadian Television Network Sports net fired Don Cherry for what it described as divisive remarks the do not represent our values or what we stand for. Those divisive remarks were broadcast during the eighty five year. Old Cherry's coach's corner segment on Saturday. which runs on the show hockey night in Canada in that segment he talked about how shameful it is that? People don't wear poppies on remembrance. Day To commemorate the sacrifices Canadian veterans actually. It's not that people don't wear poppies. It's that you people don't wear poppies specifically the people of Toronto with with its large population of immigrants. Let's listen to Cherry's rant. I was talking to a veteran. I said I'M NOT GONNA run the poppy thing anymore. Because what's the sense I lived in Mississauga autobody. Wears a very few people where poppy downtown Toronto Forget it downtown. Nobody wears the poppy. And I'M NOT GONNA wait. He says wait a minute Hobo running and for the people that buy them. Now you go to the small cities and you know you know those roles unrolls you people love you come here or whatever it is you love our way of life you love our milk and honey at least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppies or something like that. These guys pay for your way three of life that you enjoy in Canada. These guys paid the biggest price the day. After those comments aired the stars. Bruce Arthur wrote a piece headlined aligned. It really should be game over for Don Cherry this time after toxic you people rant. I'll confess that when I saw that headline. I assume that nothing was going to happen. Don Cherry sorry. That's pretty clearly. What Don Cherry seem to in the video version of Cherry's rant? You can see hockey night in Canada. Host Ron Maclean. Who like Jerry is wearing a poppy on on his lapel? He's good he's got the poppy. McLean is a standing there. mutely a nodding along it was McLean. Ultimately who apologized saying being done made comments that were hurtful and prejudiced and I wish I had handled myself differently. Cherry for his part told the Toronto Sun that he would not apologize and that he'd had his his say this has always been the pattern with cherry the one time. NHL Coach of the year slash Canadian national treasure slash Canadian national embarrassment. He says something dumb or gross or offensive and other people do the apologizing the first referendum people usually say about cherry saying something controversial and and the long lists of Cherry saying things that are controversial offensive probably better worthy controversial anyway He mocked a Finnish coach. For for the Winnipeg jets. The coach's name was Alpo. Suen by saying Alpo. Isn't that a dog food. According to a eighteen ninety article and the Montreal Gazette this happened happened in eighteen. Eighty nine Ron Maclean. Who was As now then the host of Akhenaten Canada turn to Cherry on coach's corner gave me a chance to apologize college is I said no Cherry said proudly recounting the event. Although it's hard to summarize everything he said and done and his long tenure on the telly Bruce Arthur's summary of cherry as good as any Arthur rates that in two thousand seven Ron Maclean said indigenous people felt they were not treated equally in Canada. Cherry Cherry said fair shake when you go out and get your own fair shake in life and work for it. Don't give me that stuff in two thousand thirteen cherry said female. Journalists don't belong in locker rooms and for over a decade Arthur rates. Jerry has complained that climate change is a scam because a winter still happens last month. Jo Pack wrote a piece for Vice Hotline to Don Cherry's dangerous legacy in that piece pack. Ask Day couple of rhetorical questions. Why despite has many expressions of sexism homophobia phobia and xenophobia? Is he still tolerated. Why haven't major sponsors of coach's corner pulled their advertisements? Why this is outdated behavior? Continue to provoke mostly asleep shoulder shrugs from some fans media academics before Monday. I would've answered those questions by saying that Canadian broadcasting authorities have been afraid to call Don Cherry out because these CNN is speaking for the good white people of Rural Canada. Maybe they thought he was just an old guy who represents old timey values. He loves fighting in hockey hockey. For instance we've got a respect our elders even if they're idiots but now after a decade upon decade of similar behavior the institution of Don Cherry is has no more and I'm extremely surprised. I must say this is a really huge thing in a sign that if you're a raging asshole for a very long time maybe eventually at some point point your bosses will figure out that you're not actually load bearing structure. They are just.

"In an extraordinary video published by the New York Times came described her time climb with Salazar and Nike as an elite athlete. How she said she was forced by an all male coaching staff to lose weight publicly shamed for not losing enough weight? She stopped menstruating and as a result of low estrogen levels broke five bones. Let's listen to a clip. I felt so scared I felt so alone and I felt so trapped and I started have suicidal thoughts started to cut myself. Some people Asami cutting myself and Nobody really did anything or said anything. Lindsey Krause is a senior editor and producer in the Opinions Department of the New York Times. She produced to the video about Mary Kane. Thank you for joining US Lindsay exhibit surrounding for having me art for those. Who aren't familiar with Mary Kane Story? Why don't we start with how good she was? And how she wound up moving to Portland as a teenager to train with Alberto Salazar Salazar so. Mary was absolutely the best distance runner in the country at the time. She's part of a movement of high school girls. That are getting better and faster than ever verb. She was by far the standout and for that got a lot of attention at the time. Among people were really really excited about her send. She was raising against professionals at an incredibly incredibly young age as a teenager. And because of that because of the halo on her caught the attention of the greatest coach in the world at the greatest company in the world for Track Alberto Salazar Salazar at Nike. And so she got an offer to actually skip the NCWA and on turned professional as a teenager. Which is I'm not sure? If it was unprecedented at the time but extremely unusual she was first coached by him remotely and then moved out there and it was supposed to be the opportunity of a lifetime for a teenager like that one one of the things that really stood out. Was this absolute fixation on her weight. You know I was familiar with her story from when she was a prodigy and then look in the video. This is an incredibly credibly thin young woman and to hear her talk about how she was constantly told that she was overweight or shocking. I mean they're details. That didn't make it into the piece. This is a girl who who at age seventeen was. I don't I don't know her height off the top of my head five foot seven. That's what I was going to guess. She said that her weight was vacillating between one hundred eighteen. Eighteen pounds in a hundred and twenty one pounds. And I mean it's sad to hear a young woman have to kind of recite her way that you know that easily in that publicly anyway We didn't wind up putting it in the piece. But he was fixated on it being on one hundred fourteen pounds. And I think that's part of what really struck me as those numbers so arbitrary You know hope. Hopefully a lot of people don't actually weigh themselves every day but if you do you know that that number can change and so the idea that Her it was just supposed to constantly be at one hundred fourteen which is just so close to one hundred eighteen pounds to me that really got my attention and seemed very striking at the same time. I think it's really important to focus on the idea that so many women. So many athletes female and male athletes go through this all the time that it's incredibly normal what what was wrenching to me about. It was that oftentimes it's sort of in the athletes athletes more in control of how far they WANNA take their relationship with these numbers and in this case a young girl having this actually imposed upon her and in ruining her health her actual performance at the same time. I think that's that's an important thing for for. All of us to remember is that this isn't just. You don't have to be training with a legend in the sport to feel these kinds of pressures. These happen at the high school level where girls particularly feel the strain of expectation and this belief that in order run faster I need to weight loss. Yeah I mean I had that happened to me and so I think in that way I really connected with Mary Story. This is happening to girls everywhere aware. And it's sort of this unspoken message that you know as you're getting as you're growing up and you're going through puberty. Your body is changing. Boys is for boys their bathing into Susteren. That's a performance enhancer for girls. They are growing estrogen. That makes you gain that It it's GonNa take a few two years for your body to adjust to this but there is a tendency for so many girls especially girls in sports and they're often encouraged to do this but to try to fight. Those changes is a lot of stories of abuse that we hear. And naturally it think about gymnastics. There's kind of a range and sometimes the abuse goes along with girls and women who are extremely successful while the abuses going on sometimes that as you said bruins their ability to perform as well as having physical and mental health consequences and again like another thing. That's so disturbing about this. Is that the physical consequences and the lack of results on the track. Everything seems to be pointing in the same direction. Lindsey like everything is going wrong and going bad and rather than Nike and the coaches actually saying like okay. Let's put a pause on this and figure out like how how we can turn things around. They seem to blame the athlete for doing actually what she was told to do. The things that were making Mary Kane have worse. Times on mm attract were the things. That Nike was imposing on her and Nike rather than addressing it by by stepping away from those training training methods doubled down and blamed that for her weakening performances. I think you're raising to really really important points. One is about who these girls are art in how they got there in the first place. It's important to remember that these are good girls. These are America's best girls. They are super high achievers. They're the ones that are getting into the spotlight. In the first place in order to be kind of seized up by these coaches therefore are going perhaps exploit in some cases they are obedient. Natures I and You know their willingness to do whatever it takes to be the best in these girls won't necessarily say no at the same time I think in Mary's case it was actually a blessing for her that she was so young because certain things you know. She hadn't been beaten down by certain systems yet or accepted. Certain things things that other people might take to be realities. I think she was able to ultimately say no. and Get out of there but it's important to remember that these girls are really good in. They're willing to follow directions. They're willing to do whatever it takes to be excellent to be perfect and that's why we need systems out there to protect them. This is not just a Nike thing. This is happening all around the country injury especially in girls sports and that's why we need to fix them. The other important thing that I think you just raised is that so often and this definitely happened to marry these girls then fade from the scene when it fails them unveils to help them develop their athletic potential and they're discarded. That's definitely what happened to her. She returned home to Bronxville else. She went to college at Fordham and she's coaching at Mile. High run club. The this is a girl who WHO's only twenty three? She still has the potential to make the Olympics but she has in many ways been discarded. She's unsponsored right now. Typically we don't hear from girls like this afterwards and I think that's what's really important about the reaction to her story. He is that we are hearing what happened to her. And hopefully that will help. Break the cycle. Yeah that's a great point. Is that when you're in an Olympic sport. Generally the only time the ever platform is around the Olympics. And if you succeed in the Olympics and when that has denied you you're basically silenced and and so that's great that you were able to highlight her story and one of the things that's been really interesting to hear and the aftermath of this video being released as some athletes Caricature Amy Yoder. Begley saying that similar things happen to them when they were Working with Nike's Oregon Project Schilling Flanagan. Who Won The New York City Marathon? A couple years ago said she actually didn't know that it was this bad and apologized to marry. Can Lindsey toss kind of characterize the responses. The you've been hearing that Mary's been hearing she'll I think we've just really heard a lot of support support for Mary's story people that maybe wouldn't have necessarily wanted to talk about it to begin with feel more comfortable now. I think we certainly saw that with the maternity reporting that that That we did the kind of goes along with this series in equal play. It's like once one person speaks up women and again. This is not just a Nike thing. This is professional runners. This says NC Double A. runners this his high school runners in This is regular runners like me talking about well. Hopefully you get over this a little bit by the time you're older but it's like this. Is Women Women in particular talking about this. All over the country but in terms of Nike yet Everyone that That has spoken up has Reinforced I restoring. And I think it's also important to note that cheat a lot of trouble actually talking about this there the reporting structures there was no. Hr for her to go to. It was really as far as she's concerned. No one for her to go to the sports psychologist. Sounds like he was reporting everything back to her coaches and it was potentially risking her career if she talked deeply about the challenges that she was facing. And I think that's important to note again not just from a From Ethics Perspective or immorality morality perspective but also because this is bad for her career. It's counterproductive we need more systems in place to kind of proactively help These girls because I think shilling William Flanagan has created a terrific culture from what it sounds like a at Nike where it team which is different than Nike Oregon Project which was sponsored by Salazar is our and she's really trying to stop this kind of culture but I don't think she knew we should point out. That Nike disbanded the Nike Oregon Project in October Tober. That had nothing to do with these these allegations by Mary. Cain it was because Salazar was found by the US anti-doping agency to violated anti-doping rules and was given given a four year suspension. Salazar's responded to the video Lindsey by saying basically that we we did nothing wrong. She kind of threw things back on Mary Mary at times struggled to find maintain ideal performance and training being wait. He said that he consulted with Mary's parents..

"Sabin Crazy Naji Harris has really really good And those receivers are really really really good. They're incredibly hard to stop offensively like you have to cover maybe a first round. NFL Guy with your fifth coroner. It's it's it should be illegal but Alabama's did some dumb stuff in the first half the game two at dropped the ball. Nobody hit him The punter dropped the ball nobody hit him and Lsu made like one good defensive. Play where Patrick Queen dropped into coverage and intercepted a two. And they got an extra touchdown and the last ten seconds the half. And that's really what won. The game just came down to which team made mistakes that were not really caused by the other team. Not The Not that I particularly care there that that was the case but that was the deciding factor. There's one cool thing to point out here too. There's a strategic thing that happens at the. NFL is well at that level. which is their leading leading receiver? LSU's leading receiver in the guy. Who touched the ball? The most both in rushing and in terms of the passing game was Clyde retailer. The running back. What Nick Saban had to do defensively? Offensively is play out of nickel putting five defensive backs on the field. which is a lighter? Look okay cool if you're going to go five or even six defensive backs as a common thing we city. Then I'm going to take a very stocky fast and mean guy with hands and I'm going to put him in the passing game as either my outlet or as the primary receiver on every single play. What does that mean? That means that somebody who is lighter than a linebacker who Alabama doesn't have anyway there little thin at linebacker this year which is shocking for them. You'RE GONNA have somebody who is basically a nickelback going up against a guy who is two hundred fifteen pounds of rock-solid malice With the ball. And that's not gonNA go. Well you saw by the way. Clyde ritzy layer breaking tackles and throwing people off. That's not because you know quite a ritzy layers all of a sudden bigger than he was the guys. He's facing are like marginally smaller because they have to cover all of those wideouts by formation. So that's just like one little chess piece that I thought was really cool to watch the whole time time that you know it goes across all football at this point congrats to everybody on. LSU's when do we want to Nazi Alabama play Lsu in the College Football playoff. And is there a genuine threat that Alabama won't be in the top four assuming everybody wins out because Alabama ain't playing in the SEC championship game in all likelihood. Is there a riskier in. Is that bad for college football or are you happy to take your win over Alabama and and just leave it at that. Oh let Spencer field this because any kind of flashbacks ax from two thousand eleven. which caused me to start screaming which we don't want on our air? The ratings would probably be really good for that so the committee would one hundred percent be in favor of saying an Lsu Alabama rematch. However I don't WanNa see it? I just from a personal bias. I don't really care to watch that game again because I think the results will be pretty similar. I don't think that Alabama can move their personnel into a position. That's going to yield results. which are dramatically different? I also think that they're going to be a number of teams. We're going to have a better claim on that than Alabama and I think there is like some fatigue because there's enough of a data set there's enough of the recent memory of Alabama making the title game despite not being conference champion. We're going to get a logjam. Most likely going to get a logjam this year of teams with really really good strong cases that are I think topped by a Conference Championship Game Conference Championship Games. Do not exist to decide died. One team's position in the national hierarchy. Because there is no system of determining who gets into the top five or six slots in college which football. There's no organized way of doing it. We just kind of eyeball it at the end and come up with ever more elaborate solutions on how that eyeballing is done. I don't I think when push comes to shove that a conference champion is going to be denied especially if it happens to be the big ten champion or if it happens to be The ACC see see champion. Clemson will likely go undefeated. Ohio state will likely go undefeated. LSU will go undefeated. There's a good chance that you could get a strong one loss team there who is really really going to have like. What if Oklahoma is sitting there? Do you tell them no. Is that how it goes. So you can let Alabama in. What if they've got the conference championship enhance? What if they're still standing there with one loss? Did you tell a one loss. 'cause they lost the Kansas State. But do you tell them no. I don't think you do. I think Oklahoma gets gets in over Alabama at this point. You could tell the exact same story and just say the only thing that needs to happen for Alabama to get in as for like Oklahoma lose another time time and then yeah. They're not going to get an over big ten Champ River Clemson but There's another spot and I don't know Oregon who lost a Auburn is going to get in over Alabama and and you know PAC twelve champ might have two losses to you know right on time Gary Danielson as soon as Lsu gets the clinching punching. I down like the clock doesn't even go down to zero. and He's already talking about how Alabama should get into the playoff talking about Allahu about Alabama tethered dench the like ESPN ESPN college. Football prognosticator is thanks. She thinks Alabama's done come on get real did like there is no universe in which Alabama's done they're going to be in that fourth slot slot. They're going to lockdown that force lot. I'm telling you right now. We're all in the most dangerous position in SCC football strategy which is depending on offered bird. This is where everyone is at if they say. I really want some clarity in a playoff race. I need there to be an actual obvious choice for the fourth lot in order for that to happen. I Need Auburn to do something predictable right. I need the money beat Alabama. Good luck the entire history of Auburn is being either either wildly underrated or overrated with no warning about which when they're going to be all right one last thing Spencer Donald Trump trying to get his Nixon at Texas Arkansas in nineteen sixty nine nine moment. A few students standing up with shirts that spelled impeach a lot more people who did the opposite of that what do you think of. Trump's move to try to ride the wave of southern football showed up and they lost. That's all anyone that's all anyone. One should remember about this whole thing he inconvenienced. Everybody probably made Nick Sabin infuriated at even a minor inconvenience of his schedule and Alabama Alabama lost. Your thirty one game home. Winning streak came to an end on the same day that Donald Trump showed up at your door. Just remember that I don't really. I can't tell you how to live your life. I can only point out correlations. Maybe a preview of twenty twenty lost by five points on the scoreboard probably won the Electoral College Though Spencer Hall Banner Society Thank. Thank you for being here and revelling with us. "Learn more a normal now dot com on Saturday in Tuscaloosa Lsu beat Alabama forty six to forty one and it really felt good. Didn't it at dead. It was the Tigers first win against the tide since two thousand eleven. Lsu scored more points the first half thirty three than they'd scored in the full game. And I did this research on Wikipedia. Then they'd scored in the full game in eighty one of their eighty-three three previous all-time meetings against Alabama. I was happy. Louisiana was happy coach. Oh was happy. Let's hear at around had to say in the locker room after the game in Houston that we did recruiting asked. What fuck you WPRO? Joining us now is Spencer Hall Editor At Large for Banner Society and our senior Cajun. Locker Room expletives correspondent. Welcome Spencer that that wasn't just the LSU team cheering. That was America. Oh yeah the entire nation behind our beloved by Bengals who should they maintain this level of dominance for three years will become the village. That's fine. That's absolutely fine. I understand if you haven't been to. Lsu for the full tailgating cultural experience orients that is game day there and that is the LSU cosmos. You might think that eventually they will become the villain. I will never regard them as such. I don't care they they can beat me by forty and I'll leave there with a smile on my face because they take great joy in everything that they do sometimes even losing and they took great joy and dismantling Ling Alabama's defense to extent that no one else has done. I know we've seen them lose. But we've never seen anybody any single player score four four times on them which is what clydes Rudy layer managed to do against them three on the ground Bladed cop one as well. No one's done that. That's never happened to nick. Sabin team at Alabama. Yeah and the motivation here was just insane. It's been since two thousand eleven since they got humiliated in that national title game they have scored gored mostly zero points and a lot of these matchups but I thought that coach. Oh after the game we thought it was just joe kind of the on field stuff. There was really driving this. But he told Ross downdraft sports illustrated editor Toronto. I might get to go to a seven eleven and get me a monster. Red Bull without people saying gotTa beat those guys while I beat coach editor on will now be able to go to a seven eleven while getting his red ball and not be harassed like that is a strong strong motivator evader. It's practically a knighthood Louisiana to go to a convenience store and leave on harassed end at peace that seems to me to be the bare minimum citizenship ship in the state of Louisiana and yet or had over on paid billions of dollars to get harassed at seven eleven which I would happily do by the way right. You'RE GONNA pay me three million dollars colors and one of the job requirements is. I have to have a thick skin when I encounter service people. That's fine on the other end of you can get paid five or six million because you've done well and it's not get harassed at the seven eleven when win the Lsu job has unique benefits and unique drawbacks and one of the unique benefits is I think beating Alabama. Emma is going to give him a little more peace and a longer term of that piece than it would for say the coach at Alabama or Auburn. I think you get along. Released released their particularly in a state. where I mean you think Sean Payton is ever going to get fired from the saints? No he leaves when he wants to. They can have like five or six losing seasons in a row they might go man shot kind of lost his edge a little bit. You know I think Ed is probably on a different scale. But it's going to be like that for him. It's a big deal like I know that people we'll say. Oh you know like you know. That's that's something. But how about the playoff. I don't care about the playoff in frankly. I don't know how many other people do agree they want to. The playoff is still largely largely a construction of TV. That's used as bragging point right. It's not what people really care about. You know in their heart and soul when they decide to roll up on Thursday and show up for an Lsu tailgate and yeah they're gonNA show up on Thursday sometimes maybe sometimes Wednesday. I do know one person who showed up on Wednesday. This is a massive deal. It is a massive deal for them and absolutely massive do yeah the level of postgame insincerity with a were taking it one day at a time we got it all mess next week that was it. It was epic levels of of insincerity. There People Forget Stefan people forget LSU wine nine of twelve games in this series between two thousand two thousand eleven. Some of those wall knicks him. Coaching Alessio Nick Sabin With Coaching Alabama. It encompassed both but last miles was doing well against Alabama for a minute and the difference in this series was that Nick Sabin and Alabama realized that in order to win in college football in this century you need to have a good passing game and it spread offense. Less miles was like still thought that he had Jacob Hester on the roster for at least ten years after Jacob Pastor graduated and saving modernize first miles didn't Lsu fell way behind and you know what it took for them to catch up was four at around who I think people caricatured is being from not this century. A different different century recognized that we have all this talent. We have all this scope. All these scope session players. Let's get a coach. Who knows about the forward pass? Let's get a transfer who knows how to throw the forward pass and that seems like it's is all it took as Lsu deciding that they wanted to be an offense which makes the other losses kind of retroactively frustrating. But I'm not mad. Not Mad at all. took him seven years. Here's what six or seven years to change what they do. There are a couple of lessons in here. One is that it is very rare for coaches to change what they do for football programs to change they do it really is and one precedent for this comes from P Carroll at USC who has spoken pretty openly about changing everything. They did in the way that they did things going into that job. And it turned his entire career round and at Osha when he was at old miss in a wildly unsuccessful. Ethel tenure at Old Miss. He's not alone in that but it should be noted was a hard ass was a guy who was the disciplinarian was the guy who you know challenged everyone. We wanted to fight him in the locker room shirtless. I'm not making that up by the way. Don't ever think that I've told a joke he really did that. You know yelling wild boys and asking everyone else to take their shirts. It's off get stopping so he could get the program motivated hype that was that was his approach and it was miserable so he went out to. USC in suddenly became became kind of a player's coach. Right just hey you guys you guys did. Well have Popeye's waiting for you in the locker room right you guys. You guys had a good practice. Here's some cookies but gentler chieter and gentler eddoes you're on one of the funniest. They Kinder Gentler F. now punches himself in the base repeatedly before games that it's it's all about context this is kinder gentler for him growing into his voice to he's terrifying. If you've never really listened to Ed odor on like if you were teleported and Tuscaloosa on Saturday and dropped into the locker room. That's a scary scene. Imagine him whispering. That's my challenge is what what does it. Sound like Ed Whispers it probably sounds a lot like the rock monster in the never ending story. It's gotta be the weirdest most disconcerting sound because if he sowed you heard the clip the different now is by the way he cusses in the other people's direction not at you know his coaches or players so not that much has changed he's just redirected that he also if you want to know like the craziest fact about him that at his age I believe he's fifty six earned that neighborhood. He's still squats. Three fifteen for sets and then goes for like a two or three mile jog after that. Yeah he's not human. We say that about people at sports all the time you know at the managerial or playing level that they're not human but but that's what he does and he he doesn't have to do that. y'All it's not part of the job description. Can I ask football question please please. One team scored forty sixpoints. One team scored forty one points. Those are a lot of points to give up for the other team or their defense is just not good enough or is it. Just that Joe Borough is a NFL NFL quarterback right now to playing on a surgically repaired probably in advisably warrior. Stephan let seem pretty dumb that he played aid but whatever still managed to throw for a lot of yards and a lot of touchdowns in this game are these just the two best teams in college football and defense. Be Damned armed or does this sort of harbinger. Some problems in the next five games did use. Harbinger is a verb. Like I like it. I will say this this Alabama Emma defense is not a traditional Alabama defense. They've had a bunch of injuries. Dylan Moses who spurned Lsu A. Recruiting battle and become one of Alabama's the best vendors. He is out for the year. They have a bunch of other for the air. They have a bunch of freshman. Starting usually you can plug and play those guys and even if they're like eighteen they're still making kingly twenty five tackles a game but this Alabama defense just isn't super duper great and this. LSU offense is amazing Joe Borough comes into the game like if if the season ended now he would have the NCAA record for highest completion percentage and a season and he bested that against Alabama. He's basically a professional quarterback in that he transferred to Lsu as a grad transfer. He does not go to school. Essentially he takes a couple online classes and so he's studying film all day long in addition to being awesome at playing quarterback and so he's going to pick these guys apart and then on the Alabama side. Yeah they've got like the best set of receivers ever in human history and one of the best quarterback so these defenses have no chance. Yeah this is just one year. I think we're the sliders editors are all skewed towards offense. I think because of the way that Alabama has had to recruit you know they just ended up with this glut of insanely talented wideouts. One of of whom devante Smith was matched up for much of the game on a freshman on. LSU's defense and we're praising the management skills of the LSU staff. I don't Know Oh man you play a man. Press with a pretty slim lead late in the game against the most dangerous wide receivers in college football and a still deadly to Taco Vilo playing on one leg and you played man press with the freshman. go off Dave Randa those check those he check to check it. Guess what you got bird those eighty five yards with with like a minute left in the game. 'CAUSE devante Smith can run very very quickly and your guy is not quite as fast as as he is. Also I kind of think what they you did was like a hilarious strategic thing that I hope somebody points out on. TV which they're very deep flat out. And I think they just decided. Hey Man someone's GonNa have a bad bad night. It's you kid issue like that's it we're going to have somebody who's GonNa have a bad night. Somebody's GonNa ever receiver who just embarrasses them all night. It's going to be you but I think Alabama's lost defensive Lineman to draft. Their next wave of monsters is still on the way but this is a permanent ship because if LSU's putting their skill players who have forever ever been lauded as all being running back disguise right that's the thing with L. issues that their skill players have always been ridiculous. They've been strong. They can break tackles they they you know they are all outrageously athletic and they all end up in the NFL putting up numbers that they've never dreamed of putting up Lsu because of the way things have been run on offense there that's over over. It's not like you're going to see oh. Bj Out you know the next oh BJ come out in the draft go bad. What were they doing with him in college? Now man march chase gets all the chances he wants one on one and Egypt. You a pair. That with Joe Borough go look by the way the jump in his numbers and what he has been asked to do go look at the variation between what his completion percentage was last year. And what he's done this year and the fact that a lot of those completions they're not the sort of like GP screens and like lateral stuff. Where you get high completion? You know what I would call the Tim. Couch factor right where you go. Oh Wow this. Guy Is like completing eighty percent of his passes and you go well most of the win about five yards like five yards that way not forward. No Joe Joe Borough has just been. It's unreal it statistically a parent what he's managed to do one thing. That's very weird with this Alabama team by the way is this. There are only hitting home runs. They're not getting a whole lot of of like pole. Holda pulp production in terms of moving the chains with the run game. which I know has to drive nick?.

"Eight hundred four thousand Tigers left in the wild. Where? As the beginning of the twentieth century there were one hundred thousand yes. Yeah. And they were mostly the reason for that genocide or whatever is basically hunting poaching, primarily a lot of it was hunting and poaching. I mean, it's incredible to see that, you know, certain individuals in India kill twelve hundred Tigers in their lifetime. Four hundred Tigers three hundred Tigers the numbers are staggering. Yeah. And but with that said, this film, I really you're focusing on the conservation on the people who love the Tigers more. Yeah. It was destroyed them when when I was first asked to possibly do a film about Tigers. And if I had any ideas about it. I didn't want to do another poaching film. Right. You know, and there's some amazing films about poaching. That have done great things and really had a positive effect. But I wasn't interested in that. I didn't know what I was interested in. And I went home and told my wife that radical media production. In company and discovery and Fisher Stevens, Wami know, come up with an idea and pitch them. I thought when you're going to do about Tigers. Yeah. Honestly. I just said to myself. I was I was going to blow it off. And my wife said, no, you're going to think about it. It's a good paycheck and. And when not least think about it. So I thought about it a little bit. And I guess because we were talking about my six year old son was cutting paper Tigers and clearing them. And then picking them up and showing them to me and telling me all about the tiger. He knew facts, which I was sort of a standard by and then I have an eleven year old, son. And like, why do they know everything credible now he's into Bowie? It's crazy. But yeah. And I just thought would if we sort of look at this a little differently one. If we concentrate on that childlike wonder, and the beauty and the Reverend man had for the tiger, you know, throughout the ages and to make something gorgeous and beautiful. Yeah. Like the tiger not to over-focus on the killing in the poaching. But it is in a way. Like, I mean to go back to that thing. I was saying about all it's like the things that scare us for a lot of our history. We seem to have had this impulse to like dominate and destroy them when possible as if we could radically that fear, you know, for sure, and it was to me it was fascinating. Because you know, when I was researching my producers are researching and the tiger. So ubiquitous in our culture, and the thing one of the things that draws us to the tiger. Is this power is now or it has and that's an that's exactly the thing. That's creating. The extinction of the tiger. Because people want that power let the medicinal qualities of the tiger, the magical qualities or why we're killing the tiger. Right. We either want to overcome it or we want to somehow ingest it, it's mazing how people can kill everything. Beautiful. Yeah. Let's do it. Let's do a quick discography of the tiger in culture..

"This isn't going to be throwing money at at trying to fix problems like it was and there was very very good with this driving. The Tigers really were more successful during that that stretch where they didn't win a World Series between two thousand six and let's say two thousand fourteen and they'd ever been at any point in their their franchise. I mean like I said it was deep run in the playoffs. It's g for deep run in the playoffs. It's I'll putting to remember that. There was a rotation with Justice Burland or next I or David price for porcelain. I mean, you list goes on the Tigers aren't going to be going that route. And I think there's some question in my mind as if they will be able to deflect their financial muscle again in the years to come. And if they do. You come watch. Because I firmly believe that if you wanna be a legitimate World Series container for whatever year window you want. You're gonna have to throw some money behind that. I think the the brewers small-market teams at a wonderful job as season of had of upping their aggressiveness to to really benefit the market and keep their team is one of the best in the National League. And the Tigers that at some point. But we we which was down here. He was asked pretty point blank. If that's part of the process, and he didn't give a a a straight. Yes. Or no answer on the payroll say that the the resources will increase as as time goes on you could take from whatever whatever whatever angle, you want insiders really tried to catch up an analytics and player all the stuff that they really Nord during his dad days, and they were just giving out hundred fifty two hundred million dollar contracts to every guy and trying to. Win the World Series with a functioning bullpen, which didn't go. Well, I think he's buying into the front office is doing terms of like, he's profits. But I wouldn't say he's an impactful owner at the he's more behind the scenes more of a business. And I do think that we went to talk about owners, they really hold you to this whole thing in terms of how much they want to push the needle to get their team better. And in many cases, I think it helps to have a guy way Mike Illitch who was a fan and cares about the product view. But I I don't think he would stand for rebuilding process. But that's that's where we're at with the Tigers. It's interesting in years to come. If they start know somebody's everyday guys up there in kind of at the point where they need to spend how much they're going to spend. But I I don't think he's really huge guy. Yeah. Yeah. I have definitely spent the past decade or so thinking of the Tigers is a big market franchise with with one of the two or three biggest payrolls in the American League. And I don't know how much of that is the actual true market size or or illegit perogatives when they come out of this rebuild how big a market are. They are they truly a big market franchise right now. No, I think that they're I firmly middle market. I think they're like middle market with maybe you could put an asterisk on. Because Detroit is great baseball. And I think that's been stab with over that that stretch from os six to fourteen. I mean, the difference between Detroit and Cleveland is kind of I opening to me because you see for the past three years. It kind of teams at the Indians of put out there yet you go to their ballpark. What ten times a year, and it can't sell the place out? And we when this was when we were in Detroit eleven twelve thirteen pick year commercial. Mark would be sold on every night. And I think that the the city of Detroit in their sports fan as put a winning team on the field of fun team Tigers had been for the past decade. They're gonna come and I think they're gonna up that market value. But I think market wine. It's a middle market..

"Yeah. It really is. And then, you know, you've got obviously, you know, we're stuck with this Jordan Zimmermann contract. And you know, when Jordan Zimmerman's neck, isn't flaring up on him. He's he goes out there. And he looks a little, you know, a decent amount. Like, the Jordan Zimmermann. You saw with the Washington nationals. You know, like really, you know, just excellent command fastball slider. Curveball carbon people up really really, you know, really good pitch ability really smart at setting up hitters, but you just don't know what you're gonna get and the contract was untradable. So he's he kinda tends to just be an afterthought. You know? He's kind of a veteran leader in the clubhouse. It feels like, you know, like kind of the guy who, you know, the younger guys will go to. But you know, how much value does that have really waiting for this? And and then you know, the Tigers signed Matt Moore anti-state Ross this off season. And probably elevators kind of had a tendency to do this where he comes out like really early in free agency and overpays for a couple of guys that he wants to fill positions and then by the end of the off season. You know, you're seeing better players go for even less than the Tigers paid. And and that's kind of where we're at. You know, we're seeing like Tyson Ross making five million dollars. I think Matt Moore Jordy Mercer. I know got the, you know, five million dollars. And now we're seeing better options go for two or three that they could awaited on which is a little bit little bit frustrating, but Tyson Ross is going to have a starting role almost almost certainly as as long as camp goes reasonably well for him, and he's healthy. And he's a couple years removed now from the threats outlets syndrome surgery, and he pitched really well in the first half last. Year, but cata fell apart in the middle of the season. Right. When they were looking to trade him, and then the cardinals just picked him up on the waiver wire and used them in relief. And you know, we didn't really see a whole lot of them from that point on. So that's just a question. If he you know, he swears that you know, the durability is back. He's finally gotten himself back in, you know, the kind of condition he was before the surgery and all that. And if that's the case Tyson Ross could still be pretty good and would probably probably will love pitching and Comerica park. Because he's a guy who you know, can use the big part of the field with a high fastball. And yeah, you know, I could see him having a decent year. Matt Moore, I didn't really like that. They got him in the first place, and that has a lot to do with just I don't really want to see them blocking Daniel Norris for a guy who's twenty nine years old has been wracked with injuries and hasn't really been effective since you know, twenty fourteen twenty fifteen. So, you know, I don't know they added him in there. And you know, it's it never hurts to pick up a lefty. But the Tigers already have Norris. They have Blaine hardy who was absolutely masterful last year kind of going between starting and then long relief and then middle relief, and then spot starting again, and was really great, you know, in every capacity. So they kind of got three left these like that who none of whom really assured a place in the in the the rotation..

"Probably the instincts to in the first step to play shortstop. But really just just lacks the range and has gotten has really kind of filled out early which I think is one of the reasons why a lot of lot of the the prospect lists haven't had him very high or haven't even had them in the top one hundred is that a lot of people seem to think like he's already, you know, basically, he's just a dude who was really advanced at a young age, and he's he doesn't have that much ceiling left to fill out, but you know, the dude mashes and and he can play the infield. And the Tigers need all the guys like that that they can get. So he probably will end up moving to either second base or third base down the road. But you know, you look at the Tigers top ten prospects or whatever and see him with the shortstop next to him. That's probably not the case. So I wouldn't expect him to to come up and be the Tigers next shortstop unless he really gets in just incredible shape and pulls off some kind of Johnny Peralta renaissance with himself as a young, man. Johnny Peralta had to do it when he was a little bit. Older. So yeah. Those are kind of options, and that's that's really like the key positional weakness that they have if the Tigers head, you know, Fernando Tateishi junior might even be just asking way too much in general. But if the Tigers had a good shortstop prospect, I think the entire system would look a whole lot better. Hell if you just one of the one of the pirates infield prospects at this point. I mean, they have eighty five of them. They got plenty. Yup. Just like give us one. You know, it's like a it's like a lending it, Anna, Anna. hoarding exactly and we just call San Diego. They have eighty five pitchers to. Yeah. I would like to call San Diego L of Hewlett better. We call on sandy zeal prowler Prenton loves making deals to that's for sure he does. And you know, you guys are there right now, they put the money down. So it's still seems like you guys could use yourself a nice starter. You know, maybe a maybe an extreme fly ball pitcher like Matt Boyd or something who really durable, and you know, develop the new slider last year. You know, I'm not saying we bought that much. I don't expect release your AS or anything, you know, thinking about it though. Okay. This is like a dip into your prospect pool is not even a dip in if you take one prospect out of there, it's like taking like just a milliliter like it's just ridiculous. But you know, I gotta ask because you know, Jim Leyland was there forever. Did you see a change in the team at all between how ran or anything when Gardenhire stepped in? I know it's got to be kind of weird having a guy that you went. Ahead with for so long now in the manager spot in the manager's office in Detroit. Yeah. I mean, it felt a little weird last year. You know, the thing is like Ron Gardenhire was just a very likable, dude. You know, obviously, a really really sound baseball, man and stuff. So it wasn't that awkward. It was what was jarring was going from Jim Leyland to Brad office for a couple years, and then, you know, having everything just flame out, and then we go to Ron Gardenhire, and we're talking about the future. But we've basically got Ron Gardenhire bringing in like the two thousand five Minnesota Twins staff. We've got Rick Anderson fishing hunter. Yeah. Exactly. You know, torii hunter is going to be in a special assistant to Darden her at some point here unless you got. Which you might might find a better gig. But yeah, you know, I really wanted gave Kappler. And if you know when the when the decision time came up my feeling on it was like the Tigers are going to suck for a couple of years. We all know that they've got to catch up in a lot of areas of the game. Like, why wouldn't you hire? Gabe Kaplan, who was head of player development for the fucking dodgers. And try some things because if things don't work out, you know, it doesn't matter..

"Tigers are going to be headed to California January seven to play Alabama. And alabama. I hate to tell you. And I know we have listeners in Alabama. I'm sorry to tell you this. I'm trying to brace yourself for the inevitable. Clemson's gonna win. Alabama the crimson tide will roll no more. But good regardless win lose draw. I'm sending mica to California to see the game. That was the big. And you know, what it's a great Christmas gift when you're. And it's hard to believe this when I say thirty four year old son. No way. Yeah. Thirty four no thirty six. Yeah. Yeah. Thirty six they're going to the twins are going to be thirty six this spring. And you talk about your kids growing up. Eric my kids now thirty six term is going to be forty. Trevor will be forty in February. April April, April early April. Anyway, when you're thirty six year old jaded knows everything about everything in the world. Sun breaks down and cries at the gift that you got him. And that's a trip to San Jose to watch the Clemson Tigers in the national championship. And I said Michael you deserve it. You've got you've just done great. I'm proud of you and the and the man that you have become and he is working to help others through the Salvation Army and Robin Heather take take such good carry him look out for him in Anderson, South Carolina. So it's a, but he did he broke down. I gave him I printed out the airplane ticket that I bought for him to go to San Jose this weekend because it's coming up this weekend. They played next Monday. And it was just the airline the printed out airline flight from Greenville to San Jose, which for the record ain't cheap. The airlines know how to figure out oh lot of people in South Carolina are going to want to go to San Jose. So we're going to add flights. Yeah. Well, they aren't adding bargain-basement flights. I told Mike I said not for nothing. I fly first class. I don't pay this much for a coach ticket. Like, I paid for you to go to San Jose. But he's all set. We're going to work out all the details. But he's going, and it was it made me very very happy to be able to to give mica that gift after he did a great job being interviewed by me over the over the holidays for his experience with the Salvation Army. All right. Let's get down to business a lot to cover one eight hundred six five five, Mike. The Democrats are promising to obstruct President Trump's desire promise mission to get border security with the wall. Now, they're down to say they won't give him one. Time for the wall. Did you hear what happened over the holidays? The young police officer tried to pull over a bad guy, the bad guy shot and killed him. Bad guys name is Peres Ariaca. He was in the country illegally. He had had previous arrests. He was taken into custody on charges of killing Newman. Police corporal, Ron L sing he was a thirty three year old husband father of a five month old boy. And since this happened over the holidays, my fear is that Americans aren't paying attention as I'm reading here at Fox News. The officers death has rekindled a national debate over California's sanctuary policies. Well, has it sheriff Adam christianson who led the investigation into the corporals death blamed California's sanctuary law for preventing the local authorities from reporting Peres Arriaga to US immigration officials for deportation after two previous arrests. Sheriff also said this guy had gang affiliations. Now the law. SP Forty-five or Espy fifty four whatever it is prohibits local law enforcement from notifying ice when they get a bad guy in custody. This is a complete. Losing position on the part of the Democrats full stop the Democrats are wrong on this. And they're gonna lose on this even though as they take control of the house tomorrow. And we're in for a rough rough few months and a year or more the president cannot waiver. And so far, he's not. That's why we need this guy in office. That's why President Trump is the right person for the right job at the right time in our nation's history. What a welcome you into the first.
