Because they are spending money on renewables quote nothing compared to their you know their fossil burning activities which is in the billions tens of hundreds of billions. However you know they're that they're spending on. Ev charging is a his Money down the back of the sofa compared however we want companies our at least drying it to be performing incredibly badly in terms of their share price. And i would tell the mind man that as well polite but firm way. Respectful way. But i don't think he appreciates how badly and i do spend most of my time in the community. How bobby they reputation is getting. It's really really sad. Writes coming up on the podcast. Very soon mercedes-benz e. q. e. has been spotted possibly an am. G trim and a range extended off road doing four thousand miles around. That's coming up now. Let's talk about gm on the chevy bolts and battery production has resumed which is great news for those wanting to get hold of a bolt lg battery plants in holland and hazel park. Michigan have resumed production good from algae and adding capacity to provide more cells to gm as a result the replacement battery modules are going to be shipping to dealers about mid. October is the time. Sky will not have any boat owners who listen to me. The root cause of the circumstances that could cause a battery fire the to manufacturing defects known as a torn d- and folded separates a if you get both in the same battery cell. That's what causes the increased risk of the fire l. g. has put new manufacturing processes in place in worked with general motors to review that quality programs as well and gm is continuing to prioritize the boats and the boats e. u. v. Owners whose batteries were manufactured during those time frames off. It was all of them where. Gm believes battery defects appear to be clustered. The companies established a notification process to inform the customers when the modules are ready to be replaced and that is great news for bolt onus next. That's still mercedes benz e e the baby q. S neater ridge. I can avoid but it's been spotted with a big spoil. A chunky race spoiler a couple of weeks ago. We sold the in person. And the i aa show in munich. And now the motor. One spies of saint a prototype. Driving around looks at the g. Version actually big chunky spoiler lots of camouflage very low down compared to the key that we saw low profile ties as well. And like i say a big spoiler hiding at the back of this good welby the img version of the car which will be going up against the likes of model s. Ticon audi hr gt. Now let's talk about a range extended expedition vehicle and off road up and all wheel drive very light white but with a full thousand three hundred fifty mile range. You might have guessed. That's a range extended. Of course you starts up. Fairing is gearing up to build. Ev explorers kind of desert. june buggies. That paints a picture in your mind starting with a vehicle the pioneer ago anyway brick outhouse of a thing designed for munster range figures as new atlas dot com. And they've gone with the battery. Chemistry is great for explorers because it will go down to minus forty degrees c and plus sixty. That's about hundred degrees fahrenheit. It's called lithium tight tonight oxide. Lto battery pack some advantages in terms of the operating window disadvantages less energy dense than lithium ion battery pack. So the the the kind of nikko. Nickel cobalt manganese most common battery chemistries. That you'd find many vs so even though it will do fifty miles or eighty commenters on a single charge. It does have an eight hundred three cylinder combustion engine. That's ninety four horsepower. Engine and it will do about fifty miles per gallon with the big tank. Because they've put in about four and a half thousand or seven thousand miles well. Four three fifty miles. That's about seven thousand kilometers. Which is crazy. But i guess if you're in the middle of the you know the desert and sand dunes and things want range anxiety all-wheel-drive pair of electric motors on the front and rear axles. Four hundred and forty three pound feet of talk founded. The company was founded actually by a former mclaren head of advanced concepts and they want to go into series production sometime next year. now that they're prototypes out there and being tested scott a next in the news. The check. Bit of vw. According to the c o thomas. Shafer scholar is intensively looking e octavia. He says the volume model which has so far being offered as a combustion. Engine and plug in hybrid will not be launched as a purely electric vehicle until two thousand twenty five a shine. That's three years away. And the octavia octavia octavia is states back in my petrol driving days. One point eight turbo had the running bits of an d. And it was fabulous engine. I mean this was fifteen. Years ago i had a great car. I love estate cast and before electric vehicles. Love that octavia. I'd have another one if it was electric. Of course the boss telling the german business magazine handelsblatt for the second half of the current decade. They look into the octavia the counterpart to their most successful model on the final story today. Safety officials are already piling on tesla. I've not really covered this story too much. It's a bit of a war of words. Them and jennifer hollandi is the chair of the national transportation safety board telling the wall street journal. The tesla should and i quote address. Basic safety issues. Wow and that's before they expand full. Self-driving to anybody else had harsh words for tesla to use the term full. Self-driving she says is misleading and irresponsible. While outing the tesla has and i quote because clearly misled numerous people to misuse and abuse technology. And quite well the ntsb will conduct investigations and make recommendations but ultimately has no authority to enforce anything. That's the nhtsa the different beasts. And it's when the second one starts to get a little bit punchy that you want to worry well. Back in may tesla's director of autopilot. Software told the californian dm dmv that elon. Musk has been overstating. The capabilities of the company's advanced driver assistance system. They called him for a meeting. And you listen to the boss. This is purely driver assist. Ignore the man on twitter. Well that's it was in february twenty twenty if you go back even further the ntsb again the organization without say much regulatory enforcement power found the autopilot driver. Assistance systems was a possible cause in the fatal crash stating that the driver who had been playing a mobile phone game at the time was overly confident in autopilots capabilities. And that does come down to my position on autopilot. Which is it's really good. Ninety nine percent of the time. The problem is the humans that humans trust tesla's technology and you. Mustn't you must not take your eyes off the right or your hand off the wheel but the problem is it's so good it fools you into thinking it's not about to do something very stupid and drive you into a hedge and testing themselves. You must be in control of the vehicle but the problem is when again. Whenever i've used it it's so good i know they've as tessler on argues it all the time and i know it's human nature. I've probably start to trust it. And i'd probably get a little bit complacent i'm ashamed to say but i think it's human nature and it comes down to the human problem with tesla autopilot and full self driving. That is the messy bit. I'm sure that they've got some very clever scientists working for them but in the hands of humans and that's when it will unravel right question of the week with mobility norway dot com either. How long have you waited. Or how long are you willing to wait to get delivery of an electric vehicle. Once you decide to purchase because we've seen those delivery times creeping up tesla's a now pretty much. What fed march. I think in at least in the us for all of their models so multiple reasons without of course. How long have you did. Or.

"To one hundred and sixty three miles per hour cents initial deliveries and. I don't think that has changed. So there's some chatter about just that potentially even improving tussles time here. But if you look at the record they do say that tesla reached a top speed of two hundred and seventy nine kilometers per hour on this lap. Which would be one hundred seventy three miles per hour so already above that limit so obviously a software update could improve the performance. But i'm not sure that it's just a matter of removing the limit anyway. Obviously tesla's time compares favorably to the ticon but when it stacks up to other internal combustion engine vehicles. You're talking records for production vehicle in the sixth minute forty three second range but obviously the model s. is a full-sized sedan. So he need to compare it with such. That'd be the executive cars category here for the nurburgring records. They list the mercedes. Am g. g. t. sixty three s four matic plus with the laptop of seven minutes. Twenty seven point eight seconds. the porsche panama comes in about two seconds behind that and then the model s. would be a little bit less than eight seconds behind the mercedes. So tesla getting very close there to the fastest comparable internal combustion engine vehicles in the world and remember. The nurburgring is famous for being one of the most difficult and demanding tracks in the world. Plus it does still sound like. There's some things that tesla can do. Maybe even to the production version of the vehicle. That could improve that time may be pretty significantly so hopefully that helps with the context around tassels time here and then the last thing. There was some chatter that tesla had replaced the yolk with wheel while from tesla's video. Obviously that's not the case just to clarify this was a production car. Did have the yolk steering right next appeared just a quick update on giga texas. There has been this video from snapchat. That's been going around over the last day. Or so of someone. Filming some castings inside of gets texas which is exciting to see but do you want to point out that this is actually really all that new because we saw somewhere image actually shared earlier back on august thirtieth by joe tag meyer one of the flavor guys showing essentially the same thing as this video so again exciting but not necessarily new bear and the next we've got a bit of an update on tesla solar. It looks like according to electric that tesla has discontinued its source subscription option previously. This was a no money down. No hard commitment way for people to get into solar. It was kind of similar to the solar city business model so we definitely seen ups and downs on that sort of an offering over the years. Now back on the downswing with the discontinuation kind of sad to see that. Go as i do think it's a way to not like trick anyone into signing up for solar but more so demonstrate the value of solar..

"At the point of the press. Release where. I'm reading through the really really random stuff and i'm trying to like maybe something that we missed. Twenty eight percent increase in torsion rigidity. That's not a bad thing. That's thanks dinner. Platform here is a for you. You boys ready for this fun. Seventy five percent. Increase in suspension mounting. Point ridge yeah. I actually made a note of that. Designed okay well. I think about this though. I don't know how much i don't know how much time you guys have spent any aftermarket but like guys. The goal is to work for it and they'll put the put frame connectors under their car. They'll put the put strut mount braces. I i mean. I think i think those were kind of making a little fun here. But i think those those rigidity points. I think i think are valid. It's it's a thing to point out the new platform underneath those car. It makes me excited alone to drive it. And with a two hundred seventy one horsepower. Yeah sure i mean we could. We could always have a little bit more power. But i don't crucify out. Think you need to crucify subaru for not just blowing up the wrr. Chris keep your hopes up. Maybe they will surprise as the sti and give it nine hundred horsepower horsepower. I just want a respectable upgrade. The i don't need the the. Wrx has never had stupid amounts of power. But we've been saying the same thing about the z. That only got twenty year over forty horsepower. More that people are excited about that. It's not necessarily the power. It's actually aspirated. engine though. Like with a turbocharger. You expect more. I necessarily it's always. It's it's about the power band. Like i said i'm not even i'm not even joking here. I've i'm very interested to learn more. About how the new engine in the wrx stacks up to the oldest. In the way it's using its power I mean the we had the same thing. Go down with. If you remember what was it. How a couple of years ago with ford's ecoboost mustang with the performance pack or the like. Yeah we've got the engine out of the focus. Rs mustang now. It's like you doing all of this work. And all of this effort to make like five or ten more horsepower over the regular echo booze. Why don't you just put a cold air kid in two on the stand and the standard engine. Save a lot of money in. It's it's it's how that power is used that engine the irs engine had a different power band a goes to the ground. A little bit in that in turn affects the performance of the vehicle. I i respect that. And you know what i'll just like with chevy talking to smith. Hey subaru you guys wanna talk to me you wanna send me on the wrx drive and prove me wrong. Let's go. i'm fine with that but let's let's get to some questions of last week's episode. Because i think we've kind of exhausted. This i think we have. This is all brand new brand new information. The silverado the subaru. We did have some. We did some comments To talk about from last week and we have some emails. Do you wanna start bruce. I do so. I want to start with one that came in via email. And you know what i. I didn't lose it. Ha this is from our buddy jo di. He came up with actually a really good comment on our youtube. That i want to expand into a full topic at some point smith where he wants us against the original vehicle and the vehicle that revived it. So the first one that came to my mind was beat overseas new beetle That late mid nineties late nineties camaro versus revived camera. Stuff like that But we kind of don't have enough time for that tonight since we have three of us. Joe zaia also sent this question and it's just fun it's quick. You guys have to pick one of these. I'm gonna go lasts for mall. Since i'm the one asking so clint smith so you get to pick one of these vehicles or the other. So ferrari four eighty eight or lamborghini. Her on for eighty-eight oricon also hurricane. Wrong now right along. Ferraris prestigious lamborghini is just way to saudi. But that's just me okay. tesla model s platt. Porsche tycoon turbo turbo. Also tight turbo. Everybody can taikang kaikan ticon. I had that beaten into my head at the debut. All that's all right you you were at the debuts in front of niagara falls yes i remember that everyone agrees icon turbo okay mclaren f one ferrari enzo f f. One also f. one okay. That one wasn't hard for me. I was delayed. Because i'm jet lagged or gt re mac navarra or navarra. I'm not sure how you say it remax. Yeah you're right gt now. I'd have that routes. I'll i'll take the gt. Hell no that this new electric that. Oh my god. I'm so intrigued by dot car. It's epic in every way possible. I'm not thinking. In terms of sheer performance. I decided gt. That's going to be the end of an era. i'll take the end of the era mercedes and g. g. t. or mclaren seven twenty s mclaren's. I'm all day long mclaren. Angels though the mclaren was the first car to ever properly scare me and i mean if you want to be scared in a car i guess cool man i i kinda wanna enjoy my time. The seven twenty s was a car where i thought every single aspect of this car is better than i am and you have to respect it. Accordingly you also rev it in the whole car shakes when you read the engine. That thing has so special. it's so an end to go back to the first one. I'd have the mclaren over that ferrari and the oricon as well that's awesome. My neighbor has a pickup truck that shakes when jeff. Okay wait we gotta go through this quick because we have a lot of second mazda miata honda s two thousand. "Onto the flatbed god which then took it and they replaced the twelve and then it was fun so yeah. That's just like weird. If they could turn the car on and then started driving it with the full big battery and it would have charged the twelve. No no unfortunately that keeps it topped up but it does. It can't charge it from zero the correct. Yeah okay yeah. Do you know if you can charge the porsche. In tesla charter. What no no. It's a different actor. There's no conversion or anything. There's ten thousand tesla things was direct. Now tesla and you should always judge tesla's actions not tesla's words because their words and their actions don't match okay. Tesla's said last month. They're going to open their super charger. Network to non tesla vehicles. They got an stop boost out of that. Have they done it. No will do it. Don't know because they say they're gonna do a lot of things many of which they don't end up actually doing. What's an example of another one hot swap -able batteries battery up haas all batteries tesla roadster tesla semi cyber truck roofs solar roof tiles. So basically it's like any idea comes to his head he's like this is what we're doing. We're doing like the solar rooftops watch video two days ago about them they do exist. They're just not being installed as much as possible because they're expensive right. They compete against brecca premium slate roof or copper roof. And so if you wanted if you wanna get solar panels on your roof and you had a very nice house if you got slate or something else. Nice and got solar solar panels. The tesla tiles are cheaper and super durable and stuff. But they're very expensive so if you were just gonna replace your normal. The asphalt tile roof. Just wait till the time. They launched it. They showed one. That was not real. They may have since developed something and then having. But at the time in tim higgins book they even set at the time. They showed a demo house. They install these fucking. They weren't real. Yeah they look. They look the the ones that do exist. Now they'll look anything like no different cool. Yeah they work but they do look different. Yeah yeah so like just they. You know that's how media works right. You say you're gonna do it. You get the fucking big media. Everyone parents your shit. And then and then if they don't do it maybe it just fizzles out or maybe it's a retraction on page. Seven chargers is the concept. Is the same thing meeting. It's putting out the same watts or whatever. It's just the the the nozzle more or less like they couldn't put like a conversion. Well actually no Tycoon is an eight hundred volt. Whereas tesla's a four hundred volt so ticon ken charge faster than tesla with the correct eight hundred. Volt chargers so she can charge. Because i know at least i've read a little bit that you can do slow charging faster all this kind of thing but you're talking about the fast charging with eight hundred. The porsche charter is capable of eight. Thousand eight hundred volt system. Which can handle i believe what three hundred and fifty kilowatt charge seats Which sounds charges have like the electrify america. America has some three fifties. If you go like the porsche experience center or they make them. Put them in porsche dealers. Now these three hundred and fifty kilowatt charge which are really really fast. I believe that that is faster than tesla's supercharging which operates on four hundred volts and. I think we'll do one hundred and fifty kilowatts right can is it tesla. Only a hundred and fifty. I'm gonna look okay. I think it test logo. One hundred fifty kilowatts so not Okay so superchargers. In urban areas deliver a consistent. Seventy two kilowatts I think they go to one fifty. And there's and there's so like my machi can go one fifty where available which is the same as the tesla. Tycoons can go faster. Audi r eight audi r Go can go faster to three fifty And they have a. it's it's that double connector. There's the flip down the little thing. Yeah yeah so you can go faster where you can find the charges now. Tesla's supercharging network. They're the most available all over so not being able to use one is annoying and if they do open it up to other vehicles. That will be nice. That'd be good. That'd be good for everybody but they said they were going to do it. Hasn't actually done Superchargers justice you can charge up to two fifty fifty okay. It looks like the one. The fastest was one fifty so they are getting faster. There's far more prevalent. i mean they. They were way ahead of the curve and they built the infrastructure. And i it seems like they're the The plugs this is the thing. That's it is a problem. There needs to be a consistent plug. Gas stations. In europe they mandated the all. Ev's use the same pluck. They did not do that here. Because merck freedom because they don't because when people build infrastructure they think it's it's built infrastructure. It's just for you good for could for everybody. But i mean whereas would've been tesla goes well. Why are we turn to the shell of gasoline even though electrify america's trying to do that. Yeah the question is though. Do they have enough charging systems to take on that increased demand because if every electric car could go to them. They're going to be real crowd because there's places here where like the tesla super line can be really really long like what's really long like it can take half an hour before you're on a charter. Because there are cars literally lined up like especially going to palm springs. There's one super charger near these The outlet malls. I drove off as an alcohol. No no no it's There was a line like out the driveway and two city blocks..

"This middle linebacker across. I actually consistent sitting in the mini before. She bought it. Because i wanna make sure. I could get into it. It's pretty comfortable. I'm looking forward. It's gonna be a lot of fun to drive Not a lot of battery. But we don't go anywhere so when you need to go long distances exactly yeah I asked him a question. Yes he's here and he's an expert does right. That's what i was trying to sneak in my toyota. I will open it up to everyone including the chat room in like six months. I'm going to have to be given up my car to my daughter which means i get a new car. You're the same. Yeah so i have a tesla. What are the old original late model. Thirteen thousand twelve model s. I love that car. And i hate that car because i love it dry. I'd love driving one all electric. But it's too frigging big for me. I hate how big it is. So i would like a small fun all electric vehicle. Go through i would definitely take a look at the volkswagen. Id four euros that last week. Yeah it's it's it's definitely much more compact but it's still roomy inside depending on what. Your timing is Early early in the year nissan's gonna launch the area Their own Compact crossover pending on your budget. You might also want to look at the pole star to It's quite a bit smaller than the model s. It's really good to drive. It's quick The volvo xc forty recharge That's that's another battery ev. So there there's a whole bunch of them that are coming to market and of course you know if you if you decide that maybe go on small is not what you wanna do. You can also get a hummer ev ashley. In fact i actually tried to talk her into a porsche icon but was going to say ticon minds. Everybody seems to love that car. Here's a picture of lisa in her new in her new Asked yeah she really rocking out in that many. Yeah the the audi q. each ron's and other one to take a look at It's based on the same platform same hardware as the vw. Id four but it's a little more stylish and if you want something that looks more premium till options. Tried kicks okay. This is good this exciting. I wanted to eat when they had the wagon version before they came out with the suv version. And then it disappeared. I think it was eighty three each on a blue plug in hybrid. So that's that's based on the golf Oh i i don't know how i forgot this the The hyundai ionic five is also coming out this fall which is another one going to be really interesting because it's gonna have It uses It's going to have three hundred and fifty kilowatt charging capability so you can charge it from ten to eighty percent in about eighteen minutes so stacey you're on an island do you drive off the island or is this just forgetting tesla into the mountains. It's the best car. Okay you have a charger at home. Obviously i have. I have a chart. I haven't checked her at home and then there's actually chargers like all along the olympic peninsula car. You get the super charger network. Sam and i were talking about the radio show this week. He was driving a mustang. Machi up and The the wilds of michigan and founded a little hard to find those electrify america chargers. That's the that's going to be. The trick does does the by executive order do anything about beefing up our electric charging that one. Yeah it talks about you know adding more. Ev chargers building up the charging infrastructure. Adding you know they want to add five hundred thousand public charging stations which is great except that he can't do that through an executive order. You know that's that's something. A lot of what was in. The executive order is basically saying suggestions. Congress should do something healthy out here. I need to do something. Yeah yeah because congress has got to give some money. I in order for them to do it. Yeah i wish more I mean there's nice way. I'm just thinking about easy word to say i was more fossil heads would get their head around. That alleged vehicles will be very helpful and everyone goes caused mortar. Do this. so there's these weird mitsuko arguments which caused mortar run. Which cost less than run one of the things. I know living on an island with the way our weather works. It's just a general wear and tear of driving from combustion. Engine vehicle of the stuff that drips onto the ground causes the asphalt. Not really the popout. So i just hear. Our government spends every single day patching like three thousand potholes and they come back a month and a half later ray. Back scott them doing that. So that's one of the things that these will do better is because they turn you're not dropping like caustic things onto the ground and so will actually save more interests yes battery. Batteries are environmentally. Thinks 'cause i'm i. I will get upset because they don't understand that you're gasping is not just the gas whatever you know. She was a order. Batteries where's that stuff dripping on. The ground is extremely costly in just is learn. When you pick up your kids from school and you're idling kids you're not poisoning all their little lungs right. i driving. Because they've got that instant torque. Yeah they take off is fantastic. Know it. It feels so once you like you go back. Yeah i do miss the noise in of a of a great engine. But you know i'm so deaf with the mustang has a switch to play recorded engine noise into the cabin and i can't hear it. I don't know what's going on. At the i switch it then. I does dan to rate. It has the fake noise. Sam can you hear it when you turn on the propulsion choice. It's not you know it's not as loud as what you get with a v. eight mustangs lower subtle. You know and it's something that i just record engine noise. It's it's a synthetic sound that is trying to.

"X. Name is over here in europe in the us. It simply the id four all-wheel drive for some reason. I don't know why they do it. But i've here we call it the gt ex and so d four ide- five exactly the same jewel motor all-wheel drive three hundred horsepower. And you would say nor sixty in around six seconds. So rapid brisk without being face melting. They say that both confirmed. I defy variants will come with the larger seventy seven kilowatt hour battery pack. And while the id five prototype that they would driving last week was wrapped in camouflage they said that you can tell there's been changes from the four up at the front. The id five gt x. Gets the same face as the. Id four gt ex. And the rear gets that sweeping roof line and a large spoiler as well. Will they say the maximum charge right is still the same as the four hundred. Twenty five kilowatts. Not horrifically slow. That's their turn of phrase not mine but even before the id five has launched next year. They say it'll behind kia six hundred ninety five porsche. Ticon which is charging at two hundred and seventy kilowatts eight hundred volt system. They say that volkswagen is believed to be working on increase charging speeds by means of a software update. But look if it's an increase from one hundred twenty five to one hundred and forty say they've worked at some thermal management. Maybe even hey hundred fifty. If it's possible the point of that platform. When it was the start of that work was done. So many years ago was to provide something that could work at many price points also be affordable and work with technology. I think that was made sense to vw. He wants to make tens of millions of these cars so yes. Hyundai group's hyundai kia genesis. Also been working on this that their own platform that is eight hundred volts. The does charge incredibly quickly. Vw opting not to go down that route for their mainstream cars. And i think price would have come into it so yes. They know how to do it because they do the audi and the porsche than not doing with this platform that the id cards are on. And i don't think that's a great shame but if you disagree with me let me know in. The comments look charging at one hundred and twenty five kilowatts with a really good consistent charge. Cov- is better than a car that will peak two hundred but then fall off the cliffs tino its pros and cons and i think those cars charge just fine for me. But i'd love to hear from you a little bit of news from new york. Next on the podcast. The upcoming new york international automobile show was just cancelled. There's a growing incidences in the us. Many us listeners will know this faulty well more. Covert delta variant cases are being reported increased measures announced by local officials to stop. The spread has meant that the new york international show has been cancelled and over here. We don't have that kind of anti vaccine thing that i know that the us has and about freedom. And no one's putting injections in me. But for god's sake just get a jab if not for you because you're superhuman and you'll think you'll never die from kobe. Get the damn injection. So the rest of us can go and look at cars at car shows. Yes selfish gets next. We'll talk about the auto show that is happening. After a four month hiatus the los angeles auto show. We'll take over once again. The convention center in november with migration to electric fleets top of minds of the likes of governor gavin newsom and the mandate of all new vehicles in twenty thirty five being zero emission. The spotlight this year's show in la. You won't be surprised to hear they'll be so much focus on electric cars. According to the la business journal website. That reported this story the av makers that will turn up. We'll be offering test drives to potential consumers. Forty five thousand square foot indoor test track. I think that's such a good idea. Because most people have a switch flicked when they get in one combustion. Fossil lovers can understand with the head about electric cars. They'll get motors and batteries but a lot of them will say well. I'll never drive any. I just like the experience of driving a sports car with exhausts. A noise and drama. But you put somebody in an ev. Let them drive it. Let them experience the instant. Talk the the smiles that you get from driving one and so many people even if an instant convert they at least understand that. This is an witchcraft. Hey batteries are okay for the next in the news. Today for the first time in their hundred eighteen year history ford will spend more on electric vehicles than combustion vehicles that starts in two thousand twenty three an executive in the company said it was planned to be said but it was on monday. The chief operating officer for north america is lisa drake and she mentioned the twenty twenty three number while discussing their investments in electric vehicles on a call was doing early this year that they were increasing their investments in electrification to thirty billion dollars between now and twenty twenty-five toppling to detroit news dot com. He reported that story in the show notes. And that's good because that sounds like the investment at ford is going to go past a tipping point other car makers over the years have said something similar but if you look at the language they've said we'll spend more on electric aren de than we will on combustion r. and d. and that's very different like there's so many dead ends approaching petrol and diesel. Yeah you can make some small gains but you wanna plow a ton of money if you are in. Oem into your electric programs. So that's not surprising. They should be spending more money on r. and d. but this sounds like full actually assigning more money to electric cars in their entire budget. And i think that's a big deal. If i'm reading this one correctly next hyundai taking aim at tesla and the model. Why would that ionic. Five claiming that this the first model on their new platform will beat any of the competition including the model. Why at charging in an interview with automotive news the manager of electrified powertrain development at hyundai kia america is ryan miller and ron was explaining the company's expecting the ionic five will dominate any of that competitors in the miles of range added per minute in a false charging stop and that includes tesla because tesla a one of those that will publish their peak charge. Right many carmakers do. But also it's really interesting how you know youtubers or reviewers all companies like fast ned for instance the charging company over here in europe. They really good a customer education and outreach. They'll they'll publish. Charge curves of caused the plugged into that charges. They really good at stuff. Like that and peak right is only one metric and so many of them will hit a peak rate but then within a few minutes. Drop away decline slave down in optimal conditions. The ionics on five's battery pack will take more than two hundred kilowatts all the way to fifty five percent and that's a really came at trick says green reports dot com. They say that it places. Individual battery cells in the hyundai kia platform indirect contacts with the cooling plate and allows for very rapid cooling during fast charging which. I didn't realize i've never really looked at you know understood well. This platform does in terms of management. But that's how they do it a direct cooling play in contact with the every individual cell to manage those temperatures when you pumping a ton of current into them. let's talk a little bit about mining. Now let's have a look at tesla. They're lithium supply for next year could be affected by north carolina. Mining projects failure to stick to the agreed production. Time-line lost tesla side signed an agreement with the piedmont lithium developing a new lithium project. In north carolina guests in county wasn't it and the maker agreed to by a third of piedmont's plan one point six million tons of annual lithium production. That now won't be happening. Only agreed timelines inside vs telling races. They would delay the shipments of lithium to tesla as it doesn't have a definitive date for when they deliveries could begin. They haven't yet applied so the will be applying for north carolina mining permit this month but the states may well delight. There's a possibility they'll say no and completely block it off ending. That's a huge problem for tesla. They'll have many supply chain points. It's definitely a bit of a pain. Probably understating a little bit of someone's tearing their hair out in the in the company. But i don't think it's a huge deal for tesla. Now an article on sky news here in the uk pointed out that the global lithium shortage could put the brakes on ev acceleration. And they say that sales could slow down because of a worldwide shortage of lithium needed for car batteries. The importance of securing a supply of vital metals like lithium was highlighted as calm because a pouring billions of pounds into electrifying their fleets according to sky news dot com. The uk has committed to go net zero by twenty fifty and has no lithium production of its own. We do have some areas of cornwall dan. That's in the southwest which are looking promising. Meanwhile the coal materials critical for new green technologies is soaring worldwide. And it's forecast that lithium demand triple by twenty twenty-five loan to one million tons a year and double again by twenty thirty. We'll keep it on these kind of stories. Actually because i'm seeing more and more of them so i'm learning. Maybe as you do as well but i'm learning which was not my forte by any means about things like supply chains and so that's an area that i'm spending some time this year learning about understanding about the raw materials that go into our either these like in south korea l. g. s. k. and samsung announcing their plans for electric vehicle battery mini mineral material acumen and the development notice to overcome the ongoing onto supply and improve the tech at the same time the south korean battery materials supplies as well are increasing their investment building things like cathode material plants with annual production capacities in the case of one from posco sixty thousand tonnes in south korea for the cathode material and spending six hundred billion won investing in that from the beginning of next year so these stories fly round. I'll try and pick them up and reporting them to you as i find them interesting and relevant to what we talk about right coming up on the podcast very soon two-wheeled fun and the world's oldest av driver those stories on connected by the way stick around. We'll tell you more very soon now. Let's talk about the association of fleet operators over here and they've introduced their first ever evi van course if a fleet wants to make the switch to electric the now offering a couple of hundred quid to sign up to it taking place in september and they said one day electric car course. They look at the electric light commercial. Vehicle ecosystem vehicles evaluation total cost of ownership. And how you operate them and also the future of where they're going as well puzzling to fleet world in the show notes if that does affect you interested. I'll pop link you can sign up to it and join that zoom call and learn about fleets going electric next. The city of albuquerque introduced a new electric dealer program designed to enhance the ev purchasing experience. And help increase purchasing and leasing in the albuquerque area through the program like oh dealers can take advantage of specialized training and educational. Materials says c. a. b. q dot gov dealership. Training lasts about an hour twice a year and covers how to engage with av buys. Ev charging an overview of albuquerque's v. programming and dealers have to have inventory to sell and charging stations on their lots in order to be certified and actively selling eady's as well and they have to share that data with the city in order to take part in this on the way we'll talk next about two stories coming from india and again we not do love indian stories but when you look at the population the potential of cleaning up the air there we really should. All electric is the electric scooter company in india and yesterday. The show was talking about the scooter. They're launching and gotham date august fifteenth. So not to waged over a week. All electric has a massive factory to manufacture these scooters and the first phase of the factory is now complete. But so much more work to do when the scooter goes on sale to the public. The factory can build two million scooters a year which will allow all our to sell in india but also export globally according to radar dot com. They say ahead of the launch all is saying this will be one of the best in the category speed range and a choice of colors as well. I'll check out their website a couple of weeks ago. Maybe the iphone adverts going back years when they introduced the iphone colors was it. I dunno using silhouettes all that the one with you to something either way. It's that kind of the pictures on their website. That kind of like. Hey look at these vibrant colors. You can get your scooter in just boring black white. That's a big big selling point but also got some boot space or you can still you helmet and you shopping. And all those kind of things. They launching their own network of charges as well in four hundred cities across india. Hundred thousand charging points eventually and their bikes will charge up in about eighteen minutes to get to eighty percent staying in india. Bounce is a company there is turning old scooters into electric scooters there a ridesharing company they retrofitting combustion skase's with electric motors. And they said it's a game changer. In going av through traditional bikes though the traditional bikes are miles ahead. In terms of sales sometimes the engine is kaput but the bike is still fine. Well bounces found that turning these ones into. Evs is a win win. Both the budget and the environment. According to the deccan herald four months ago they did it with one hundred old scooters and made them electric and they convert their own vehicles but also do it for their customers as well. You can pay for that service so that is another way of not just scrapping a whole vehicle on recycling a bike when it's reached the end of its life for the engine if there's nothing wrong with the the actual bike hey retrofit electric and off we go again that's brilliant. Let's talk a little bit about norway's oldest evey driver. He one hundred years old but when he was nine thousand nine he fancied buying a new car. He had a subaru of the time and he wanted to go electric so he bought himself an. Mg zet s. e. v. They interviewed him for the norwegian. i think it's like the ev association websites and they said that. What made you buy an idiot. Ninety nine years old he said i found. It was easy and affordable. The electricity is very affordable. it goes well with charging. He has a charger instilling miscarriage. That came with the car. He charges once a week and it lasts the whole week for the journeys that he does. He goes shopping. He visits his sister. Who is a hundred and three years old by the way and there's no upper limit for the driving licence in norway but when you get to eighty you have to have a health certificate. Which of course he's passed. I'll leave you with this. The interviewer and again. This is google translate from the norwegian website. But they say we asked him the most important lesson that you've taken from a one hundred years of living and he gave this answer that you have to be good to other people nice okay. Let's talk about question of the week with my ability. Norway dot com. What's the ideal location for charging port on an ev. Well petrol filler caps and normally in the same place side to side at the back of cows to put petrol and diesel in. But what about as they are all over the place wherever the manufacturers deemed to insert them. But that's a nightmare for charging station designers. The cables have to be long. I see cars parked a terrible angle just to get to the charge..

"I saw the. Gt three haven't had a chance to drive it. It looks fantastic But to your point a little bit earlier though the gts models that come from porsche seem them be the most bang for the buck regardless. If you're getting mccown. Gts or nine eleven gts. I just kinda felt like it's always been like. The base equipment has been chosen wisely and packaged in porsche. Porsche especially has so many options for all of their cars. You could easily double the price of any car that they're selling you just by taking off the box of options and a good way to do. It is to look at the gts models of of the cars. And i i know this new. Gts is coming out. I don't know the full specs on it but the previous version. Gts had or at least available with centre lock. Wheels off of the nine eleven turbo. Ask so if you wanted a manual transmission with three pedals and the cool looking centre. Lock wheels the gts was the option. Like that was the way to go. I think you know. Gt to gt three. You could get that but as far as bang for the buck and nine eleven. Gts and i actually really liked the nine eleven targa which is a gorgeous car with the center locks on. It was kind of cool. I i hope they they do the locks on this new version of the gts or at least make it as a as a wheel option. It'll be eleven thousand dollars but it'd be cool to see that feature. I think it makes it stand out. Let's see what i went to the g. g. three and driving to actually lend me a mechanic. Gts just to drive from the app with the with the camera crew will come and it was just thing and then they she announced an update to it. And i just. I just thought it's an everyday thing mackenzie but even that it's like a hundred grand now. We now with the options on it. But i just thought this is a lovely thing to drive around in. It is that one. I have driven a few of them accounts over over the years the new they just did a little facelift on it. On the mccann and gts version. The gts version is a little goofy looking There's something going on with the big plastic grille in the front on the facelift version. It's a little odd But there are some welcome. There's some welcome changes to the interior on the center. Stack the buttons and the haptic buttons. And you know some of the technology that i think are there i. I'll tell you you know not to to beat the topic of porsches to death but A friend of mine who is a super huge portion of aficionado has everything he's well-funded let's just say and and is able to acquire a you know anything and he. He does like the newest stuff right. So this guy he's at karachi tease. And all this. And i was surprise even as a fan boy he got the ticon and drove it for a while. Bought it and i think about six months or eight months into it. He got rid of it. he said it just. It's just not quite worked out yet. He's just like i just said. There was issues with the economics on the interior. A little frustrating. He's actually more excited about the audi. Gt the electric gt. Which is you know each. Whoever's yeah i think i think they're all e tron now ripe and then there's just the different models basically the the porsche taicang version of audi which i would say so far that i've seen is arguably better looking. The audi is absolutely gorgeous. I think so too have you. Have you seen the car in person if you've been in the car yet have you seen it no imminent imminent though you're right. He's basically and audi tom effectively. Yeah and you know audi just did their spin on ergonomics on the interior and stuff in one of the things that caught my attention. When i just saw the initial photos was the interior of the car still looks very much like an audi which they are doing well for. I'm driving right now..

"Want to buy a fucking thousand horsepower. Cargo runway racing. Like i am a hundred percent for that like have fun. You know i just. I liked it Porsche offers both branches of the tree. That they they in ferrari kind us to the eight twelfth night aspirated. That's the branch chose that v twelve lamborghini as well. Whatever you gotta do you gotta do to hang onto that fucking v twelve. We're not letting it go on selling the signet for one thing. I'll be really curious to talk to someone at like ferrari or porsche and porsche. About how like the carbon credits noise how that stuff all works. Because we know that they have to make a certain amount of noise and on a quiet and mpg have to even doubt so does that play a factor because porsche cells hybrid cayenne and other things. Do they then get to make the. I don't know. I see a fa or cafe fee. Scrutiny forty slip. There is corporate average fuel economy. So it's it's an average so you can choose to some degree as a company how you want to get to that average you can make all of your cars and trucks more efficient or you can build puree to offset share gas guzzler right or you can hybridize. You're you're naturally aspirated engines or you can go full turbo or you can make things plug in like as long as the corporate average gets there so i wonder like ticon. You know that then give them the ability to make. Gt three own. Certainly helps certainly helps. Yeah yeah absolutely. I mean the more you know these. It's carbon credits and stuff like that. So the greener. The rest of your company is not only. Does it allow you to build some quote dirty vehicles if you want but you can sell those credit. I mean tesla. All of their profit for years was selling those carbon credits. Yeah to other companies like ford. Gm and chrysler you know they'd by the carbon credits so he could build hell cat everything read. And that's another way to average it out right. But as tesla loses market share. And i read recently that they've lost ten percent market share in america Because of the machi in this And other companies are coming out with vs to That's a lot. it's a lot. And so as they lose market share their carbon credits their green credits become less desirable because other companies will be able to make their own carbon credits or offset their own Dirty vehicles and if once ford gets this i if the f. one fifty lightning is a success the electric f one fifty. Yeah they will. They will possibly be not have to buy any carbon credits anymore if the machi is totally successful and the lightning is very successful. They might not have to buy any carbon credits. Wow which they're buying a lot now because so. Many cars are mustang. Gt's words in trucks and trucks not. Yeah yeah so. I i wonder if by making the sf ninety hybrid one. It was a test bed for the to ninety six. Because they're they're it's like that's going to be a hybrid is visa system We heard audio. That'll to go drive it. They played an audio clip of it. It sounded quite good for v6. I like it is possible to make a. V6 sound okay. It's hard but it can be done right and when it's done well. The italians are usually behind it like The alphabet the buso engine the alpha alpha mayo andrea We've got a dino here it at wcbs and dino sounds very cool it's it's possible. It's hard really really hard. It's a really fine line between like a wonderful song and then just grading piercing three fifty pipes. It's really hard you know. It depends on the angles always. I'm a bit. Who did i drive. Something kind of re- well. lotus has managed to make the camera engine. Sound really really. I mean and and actually come to think of it. That the fucking. Trt camry for its faults which were many even that tr de exhaust on that basic camry engine really did sound very nice. Yeah shockingly yeah. Toyota's v six. Actually that's pretty fucking good. Wow yeah yeah. That's a nice one I've spent the last three four days with the The corvette convertible which has a retractable hardtop For the first time it's obviously you know made engine It's a naturally aspirated. z fifty. One package magara. This thing has walker and everything so over ninety thousand dollars so it's loaded But i have a really really tough time explaining to you how your money could be better spent in in sports cars. I mean i really don't think you. I mean you don't have to spend ninety two thousand dollars. This thing has like a crazy interior. You don't have to three lt. Go the the to lt in the three. Lt are minimally different. It's like carbon trim and contrast stitching. You don't need that. I think it's like ten grand differences so it's a big difference and he you know it does add a lot of class to the car. I mean it really does make you feel nice but it it. It doesn't add to the quality of it per se and it's a an e you know it does get the the corvette into kind of expensive territory especially if you're also getting a convertible you know what i mean yeah but i've never been into corvette convertibles before because the when you had the regular car had the removable roof and it could be a proper cooper that the alternative of that versus a little soft top was sort of like bullet. No brainer. right right Well now your choice choices the target roof or the power targa roof so the the difference is really that with the power one you've got the the buttresses behind driver which looks pretty cool and you have that power. The power rear window which is nice of that thing..

"Time. I was like an indicator. If i saw fucking white things. I was so i never. I never did that because it was. I'm like i'm a counter trendy. I wait for things i asked myself. Do i like it. But i'll tell you this. I'm very open minded with new watch designs. It's very often the case that he wears some avangard shit. Yes because it's new. And it's original. And i'm and i'm happy to try. There's a lot of people in the space that are deathly afraid of anything. New and this brings me a conversation with peter brock that designed the the shelby daytona and remember. Because he was doing something obama a and we were in geneva. It's spent like an hour chatting. And he was so focused on this idea that everything new people hate automatically and they go through this period of acceptance right so he was saying that when this car came out the daytona people would just panning for being like the ugliest thing. And now it's a design icon. He said that he saw this over and over and over again and not only his own careers designer but now from the side or something new would come out. People would hate it because it's new and all of a sudden it's it's it's an icon of beauty and and And so i see people being antagonistic to new things. And i try not to be myself because it's so easy to wait for all of society to make an opinion and then you jump on board your like. Of course. I like the nice thing. It's a lot harder to say. This is new. No one's really formed an opinion yet. But i think it's kinda cool. Sure i think with cars. It can be Easier to form an opinion than with watches. i've i very i mean i've definitely. Oh i've said for sure. If i saw a picture of a new car and then saw in parson and i thought it looked better in person. I've obviously you know said so. And if there's cars that. I thought were dumb looking in the beginning. And in hindsight don't look that dumb The porsche cayenne comes to mind when the cayenne first came out it was like. That's not good. It was different. It was it was and and they did change it. A bunch to to make it look better on But but but with watches. I think it's it's maybe because it's smaller. Maybe because it's just because cars we know how to use them in the real world more often. We understand how to evaluate functional problems with watches. It could become abstract unless you've worn it. You've seen the comfort. Does it tell good time or not. These are all things that are very difficult determined just by seeing pictures alone. Yeah yeah Dante says the remodeling our kitchen. What features add value for daily cooking in a small space Get as much. Btu's as you can on the burner. That's that's a no brainer no matter what. Get as much countertops face. You can get as much good light as you can in your cooking surfaces much fan vent as you can And i have one of those I have a it's breathable. It's like a toaster oven but it's convection oven that also hosts and for me and my wife i if i'm not cooking for more than just the two of us are i make our dinner in that like air friars call this toaster convection oven. Combo is so embarrassing. But i love it the the george foreman grill thing all right. Those are so useful for so many purposes. I don't even have a micro since we moved to a new place. We still. we just never got a microwave. Yeah i've lived like a year without a microwave. I my house came with one like built in literally. The only thing i use it for is if i need to like melt butter with the clintons i mean any data bryce i. I'm not a leftovers guy. I don't fuck. I know i'm i don't afterwards But those i don't know any other advice for small spaces oh small. Small space getting like a nice like blender like a vitamix that those are super useful for a lot of different things I mean for me. I try to keep like fresh ingredients for me having too much preserve stuff. I don't want so. I want to be able to keep like like fruits and vegetables for a few days of having space to put those good tips tips. richard says audi r s five sport back or ticon cross therese mo as a do it all car in order to answer this question. We must assume you're charging situation is solved like charging is not an issue ever otherwise. There's no such thing as do it. All with the navy right charging us to be fully solved talking about a new one. Okay the new one. I mean you have an rs five. Do you love yours five. Yeah but i got mine specifically because it was the basically probably the last naturally aspirated she that you don't have the new year's a couple years old with the v. Eight yeah. That's what i wanted and i i love it and i'm gonna ride the the the oil trade as long as it's available to us But i mean this notion of do anything. You're not gonna have the same car for the rest of your life. You're gonna have a car for fears. Use it for what is good for like nobody. The all-purpose car people want a purposeful car. Use it for that purpose. Clearly you wanna like go off roading a little big on the nature a little bit and i think that matt brings up an excellent point about you know autonomy If you have to charge a thing i mean. We didn't get some weird solar charger out there. I don't think. I don't think this person wants to go off. Roading the cross therese's mo is the only way to get taikang as a wagon. you can't get ticon wagon without getting cross to res mo so you have. The little ones are so practical. I know and the an ticon the specifically ticon the wagon really really improves the usefulness of the backseat. It sounds like there's this one clear. Answer the if you want. We'll yeah right. But he's saying like if you want basically are as far as sport back is a lovely gasoline-powered car and the taikang cross threes. Mo- is my favorite electric vehicle right now. So look if you're just getting until electric and it's it's interesting it's interesting like i said i like having combustion. I'm going to do it as long as possible because in the future. We're not going to have options not as many Write it out. Yeah right out right out. The market will decide for us. Oh yeah the enthusiasts can ride it out joe thank you for your donation at the end Did you see.

"Just threw us into this and that's the big track the contracts like doco past one hundred kilometers an hour. And we're like. There's no speedometer. Just sent it. I was top faster as what i have. And this is me. And jacob filming this drone stuff. Yeah so yeah. We had an hour with this car to a figure it out and be film it. What where's this track Canadian tire motorsports park in bowmanville racing with us. We can set up some track time. A big track to. It's down the street from here. Sorta oh i didn't know that was there so wait. What about the recent. When you film the one that i clicked on that no one else did. that's toronto motorsports park. The names are confusing. There's total opposite ends of the city. That's in cayuga which is around hamilt- so that one that you go on it's like it's built off an old airstrip and you can go there on like one hundred bucks or something. They're on a night. Drive your own car. Whatever it's like accessible to people and like this. They big races at toronto mortar sport. No at canadian tire motorsport park and then it gets rented out by mclaren clubs. Like if you watch if you follow the mclaren guy on instagram. They had all the mclarens lined up for a photo. Like maybe like forty them. And this used to be Canadian tire motorsports park where we did. The nascar used to be an f. One track like way back. Oh so what does it cost to get on their rented for the day. Couple thousand dollars a club or some of a club that everybody split ticon because there's pure clubs go there all the time like when when i was talking to north toronto porsche. Y'all come with us to this race. Track do this type of thing. But i always cares more for filming if we wanted to take any cars that we had here and take them over there you go. Yeah that's a set up there Just because they have more professional races set up throughout the year. Canadian tie toronto. Motorsports parking cayuga Is more for like grassroots stuff. So it's easier to get accident. They have a drag strip and their their bread and butter is the drag strip..

"Yeah that's it. And then they also have to like if you wanna slide a car like do some drifts. They have to limit traction control. Even turn all the way off because instant torque will spin you out right away so there's no differential And there's there's no like oh. The turbo needs to spool up or they things can happen. Like the tycoon real. Drive all the way off. It's not all the way off on a as if it was it would have been screwed. The tycoon. I haven't driven every electric car. Driven a lot of them and compared to the test of the titan does feel more like a car it does. It's very planted. I mean that's an exception to the rule rolled had thing into a corner. And it's just like debatable. It depends entirely. Have on. yes there's and the thing is dr about drive it back to back with the nine eleven on the racetrack. Because we did that. Okay but in nine eleven. Is it a two seater really. Okay hannah marriage. Ut s stop it. I had a panama. Before i had this. Can i bet you probably get a faster lifetime and have more fun more. Fun is arguable to paddle paddle paddle a but see this this. That's not really what i'm addressing here. I'm just talking. Just cornering with it. I had a four wheel drive panama to the they're not all forward drive right they aren't they are now by real driving. Can try There is a there is a taste thing to it. It's certainly different. I can't heavy and you feel it at racetrack. That's where we really felt it because when we throw it around closure corner like this is fantastic. Then took it to a racetrack. We're like this is under steering like this weird it pulls you out of the corner quicker with all wheel drive where A gas car wooden kinda have more than ninety. What do you guys say though. Then when they go to nurburgring in a clock crazy times with it have they in an electric car. I for sure yeah. I don't know what's the ticon turbo s nurburgring time. I mean is up there with those ridiculous rides to charge it and then you is. The battery has to cool down which is fine. Like what's that the fun thing about electric cars if we discover this early on. Is you get a cheap one. a light. one and hyper mile. Hyper wiliest fun. yes we like to. That does not seem fun. To me at hyper mile no electric need to try to get a bolt a chevy bolt and go and go the exact distance that your range says. That's not right..

"I see what we haven't really changed. People say we do like the same. Like oh yeah. That's a youtube thing that goes on all the time Well i mean. I agree with you that i think it makes sense a. It's a. it's not something. That i necessarily would have expected because prior to you guys because how. How long has it been doing as i started the channel. Myself twenty twelve so. Oh wow yeah. Never mind i really. I didn't find out about us doing exhaust videos of like what the exhaust sounds like. And we didn't start. We filmed our first attempt at a review november. Twenty th and put out nasa Summer of two thousand sixteen. We took almost a year to put up that video. 'cause we're like almost embarrassed by with this video so we suck turns out not that much. Okay yeah no. I mean 'cause i think part of this game is Feeling like you saw on a fairly frequent basis Still have imposter syndrome to this day. Like once in a while. You're like yeah that's fair like you're like what should i should. I be the guy telling people what kind of new cars they should be buying. And then it's like i guess so. Yeah we've driven hundreds of cars. We do have knowledge base of comparison. Oh this is something. That i've thought about very deeply this idea of the growth of the channel and the diminishment in relate ability So when you guys started you were your audience and now you're something else and you feel like the experience is in line with the advice that you can supply and i'm speaking from personal experience. I'm not like sending something your way. This is a feeling that i've had. And i've even said this in videos before which is like i look at a smartphone. I don't know a thousand bucks. And i'm like this. Smartphone is great. I love it. Whatever but really lacking the The position that would be very cost conscious. That would say no no no like. I'm far more interested in where the value point is. Let's say and then. I might find it difficult to be as excited about a three hundred dollar phone as i might have been when i started the channel and it was more. It had a closer relationship to where i was at in life. I think we still get excited about inexpensive cars for the value for them. But what we what we really lost is the excitement that comes from a good launch. Control that your ticon which is like the perfect spec great job that is the probably the best launch. You could get right now along with a nine eleven turbo because nine eleven. "I think that should temporal a little bit of the expectations. In terms of you know how much battery day is actually being incorporated here with the plan. expert also bethel talk about zero sixty. Of course they've got the test track setup so expected you Zero sixty runs may quarter mile round demonstrate. Some that they'll talk about their laguna seca laptops. I'm sure you know they're. You mentioned that at battery day. We've seen them out testing that Alongside those quarter-mile. I don't think we'll hear anything on the nurburgring. Unfortunately that was a big element for the plaid. Plus i think to be able to you know really beat the ticon and beat production other production vehicles at the numbering which is a much longer track than laguna seca. I'm not sure the plaid performance is going to be quite at that level. The plaid plus i think is was going to bring in a lot more of that longevity so i'd be surprised if they bring up the nurburgring but that would be awesome if they did and then hopefully they talk in terms of powertrain. You know we talked about this a little bit early on but was able to cut a bunch of wheat from the specs of the model s. With this update so even though they added range they added At least the model asked added range. They added a better acceleration things like that. I'm expecting a smaller battery. I don't think we'll get the battery size quite yet But hopefully they'll talk about how they've been able to cut weight so we've got. I don't have the old figures. But i think they cut out a couple hundred pounds from the platinum both the plaid from the previous performance and the long range which again if that's accurate for the plaid that super impressive because they did add that third motor versus to previously. So it's going to be interesting to see you know in that..

"Six battery cell plans across europe over the next nine years existing battery supplies focusing on volume so that more specialized needs like porsche. Ticon mcken audi each on. Gt audi six as well. Well those will fall to the back of the line because they not volume cars while i got a quote here from the ceo of porsche. He said this. And i quote battery cells or a key technology for german automobile industries and we must also have in our own country. Porsche wants to play a pioneering role in this but there will also be a segment for high-performance battery cells. It's bullshit i mean just as we developed high-performance combustion engines now we'll be at the forefront of high-performance batteries and quite so a bit of bluster in there as well which we get all the time from many names where they go. Oh way absolutely wonderful with the best always have been with will be and yeah press release speak. I put that down. But there's a is a lot of truth in that as well. The german car makers do take a lot of pride in doing a lot themselves and engineering themselves. So the ev situation at the moment has been one where they had to go and do deals to get cells Because they want in a position to build self factories themselves. I they were really looking at the middle of the korean Lg chem s canonization Battery companies with the chinese as well and so An awesome match panasonic always been working with tesla. And so it's really interesting. This is the decade. That's going to be marked out by comic is saying we're gonna make cells ourselves. We want control over that entire inside. Chain justice tesla doing as well well inside. Ev speculates the this point because they're a details about the investment. They're making some assumptions. Well there might be some battery chemistries. That offer higher energy density and will power density than the mainstream cars required but they do come much high cost moreover the they saying that there might be some battery formats even cell type like the shape and size of the offer better performance butts on being used on mainstream costs because of high manufacturing costs. Another path might be cells designed from the beginning to be integrated into a vehicle as part structural components. All really interesting thoughts and a great development in the world of vase next dwells largest motorcycle market will start using scooters a bike makers of made some splashy announcements about their effort to electrify bikes but nowhere near as many comic is doing well. Stay tuned to the end of the show to hear this week's question of the week and thank you to immobility white dot com a new daily mentioned for them on the podcast so headline story the volkswagen. Id buzz that is the very cool surf van by call it that but it'll have more than justice. Van use will make its way to the us in two thousand and twenty three. The europe market gets in two thousand twenty two according to the head of the brand's commercial vehicles division and it's the commercial vehicles division. That's interesting because the much anticipated. Electric descendant of the microbus. The famous surf van will have three hundred horsepower. Jewel motus long wheelbase and be a really exciting van says car and driver. The buzzer will not be available as a work vehicle in the us. However but it will be outfitted as an upscale people carrier That could be three battery sizes. The entry level model will have rear wheel drive and three hundred two hundred horsepower. But watch out for the all wheel drive three hundred horsepower version. And that's interesting because that microbus can do many things. It could be a commercial vehicle. It could be a people carrier. Could be like a mini alvie. And it's interesting. The the is not going to be a global vehicle so it'll be different in in different markets and property quite expensive as well because small. I mean let's face it all eve as a little too expensive at the moment. But i think there's going to be a premium for this car. The looks amazing. The interest in it is already off the charts. And i want to say well done. Vw from making this vehicle. It'll be easy for them to have made the concept and the prototype sharda offer. Couple of years ago be easy for them to navigate around to making vw company which is so big. You know we talk about. These mega companies like vw and toyota. They've got such strengthen debt the for them to put some budget and some people on what is not going to be the biggest seller But certainly a bit of a halo car in terms of image. And i just think it's a really small thing to do usual disclaimer before people think i've got my vw posters on the wall. I was caught in dieselgate. I'm not going to buy another one then. Having my money again for a long time to the re end my trust butts. I think this is a small thing that for them to do is to make this. Id buzz because it will sell more than a handful but it won't be volume vehicle for them if you different styles like i say but more than anything i think people will say it'd be like that's so cool is it. What's the vw. Id that will help them sell. Id threes fours. Fives excetera next a very premium. And that'll be the porsche ticon. And it's now available if you frenzy an electric sports car on a subscription rental program. You can have it for a week or month. Loads of flexibility from porsche. Drive is the service that got seven models on a month by month subscription service expanding the territory as well into five new cities in atlanta houston phoenix california and initially tycoon. Four s and. Also the well is this to putting up. The forest is about three thousand two hundred and fifty dollars a month. Oh it's just a tycoon base model array wheel drive. That's two and a half thousand dollars. A month which they say. Subscription fees tycoon compared to leases at the same ratio is other models in porsche. Drive program that seems like a lot of money to me but equally. I've never exactly so that sat down and worked out the monthly lease price of tyke on. So maybe you tell me how that compares over three grand a month to subscribe to a tycoon. Okay okay that's not cheap butts. Porch is cheap. So that's interesting. What do you think of things like that. I'm curious to the polls show. Owners owned the car in that garage. It's more of a passion brand. Isn't it whether they want to take care of speaking it every because the porsche. Options list is almost infinite. There'd be no there are no two tycoons are the same because there are so many ways you can customize them so that to me if you're spending one hundred fifty grand is probably what you want your that stage of your life slash. Finance is where you can do that. Otherwise you would by tesla model s. or something. It's the same as every other modal is on the road. So let me. Would you subscribe to a porsche. And that seems like a lot of money. But maybe today muslims next scotland is in the news. What fuel you put in your ebay and do you care without. Electricity comes from well. Nine years ago. Scotland set the energy. Talk for a green energy. Gold generates the equivalent of one hundred percent of the country's electricity for manuals and the talk was twenty twenty and the only went. And did it. Well Almost both cooler a win last year in two thousand and twenty they might have failed but they almost hits it and that's good as a win to me. Ninety seven point four percent of their gross electric consumption came from clean energy sources. Last year says gotcha and that's important for egypt. Av drivers when people say. Oh levi's are all well and good but you to burn coal to power them well any my scottish listeners. You can say actually. The grades was ninety. Seven point four percent green lost year. Gross electric consumption coming from clean energy sources. Scottish authorities hoping that renewable energy sources can make fifty percent of the energy demands muscle energy. i mean electronic. Hate and transpose. That's by twenty thirty so much bigger goal actually a lot of work to do to reach that goal when it comes to transportation and hating but things like heat pumps can get you there for the human work and also of course you'd be surprised to hear on podcast. Electric vehicles go scotland. Would you next tesla is getting ready to add a new model and the model. Y range readying the muddle. Y rear wheel drive long range. Always the caveat. I would have. I've said that before it snows for about three days of the year. where we it gets cold. It's always there's three or four months of cold weather here but actually proper get snow boots on weather. We didn't get it well. Maybe i'll say like maybe five or six days of the year on average. It's kind of Okay.
Did Bill Gates Seriously Short TSLA Stock
"Robbed our here and today we're going to be talking about bill gates response to on musk's claims the oregon podcast a couple of weeks. Back that get heard. That bill gates had been shorting stock. We've also got some news on the broader electric vehicle automotive market an interesting response from yvonne on an article from the washington post. And of course. We've gotta talk about tesla stock. It's about wild couple of days. We had the interview yesterday with alex rotter so we didn't get a chance to talk about it. But of course yesterday. Tuesday february twenty. Third tesla dropped to a low of six hundred nineteen dollars per share. That was down more than thirteen percent from the prior. Close then of course. We saw us swift recovery in the market. And from tesla tesla finishing down just two percent yesterday on the biggest volume day that we've seen in over a month and a half with sixty six million shares trading hands yesterday. So i talked about on monday and we briefly talked about yesterday in the interview as well. A lot of this is tied to expectation on interest rates. So yesterday fed chairman. Jerome powell made comments to congress. Indicating the current monetary policy is expected to continue for some time as economic uncertainty remains so not to get too deep into that. We've talked about that. Of course in the past but as far as tussles yesterday certainly was not isolated to tesla. Those sort of concerns were broadly extended to high growth. Stocks tussle obviously falls in that category. And i think the volatility there serves as a nice quarterly reminder that you have to be very very careful with stop losses on a volatile stock like tussle as for today tesla continue to rebound finishing up six point two percent to seven hundred and forty dollars two cents. That compared to the nasdaq up one percent. All right so i up today. I want to continue a conversation that we began a couple of weeks back after yvonne. Musk went on joe. Rogan's podcast for the third time and said that he had heard from people he believes would know that bill gates had shorted tesla. Yvonne brought that up in response to a question from joe rogan on the tesla semi citing that bill gates in a blog. Post a few months back had said that eighteen wheel electric semi is probably would never work so allen's claim here understand. We drawing a lot of attention not the first time something like this has happened between musk and gates last year. He did by his first electric vehicle. The porsche ticon. Which at the time. Maybe it wasn't so clear why he didn't by ordering vehicle up until that point. Well now we might have a better answer for that. But he talked about the decision in an interview with marquez brownlee and it seemed to be a relatively tepid endorsement of electric vehicles gatesville right up ranging anxiety as a problem and elon. Musk responded to that interview. Not necessarily gives purchase of tycoon but those comments in general by saying that quote my conversations with gates have been underwhelming to be honest and so that catches us up to today and then we have launched claiming that he heard gates which tesla now in the last week. We've had both cnbc and bloomberg asked gates directly about that claim. I think gates tone is important these responses so i will play the actual clip. The i wanna hear from andrew. Ross sorkin cnbc asking gates so so you're not sure tesla's stock were clear. Yeah i'm not. I don't talk about my investment. But i think he should be very proud of what he's done. Okay so technically there. He did say yeah. I'm not but it sounded like he was more starting a sentence of saying yeah. I'm not going to talk about my investments not yet. I'm not sure tesla because he interrupts himself and says i don't want to talk about my investments so to me. That's a no comment. Rather than a denial. What's interesting here is his reason saying he doesn't wanna talk about his investments but in the exact same interview. He talks about his investments multiple times. He says quote when i invested in impossible foods or beyond me or quantum scape. I was doing that just to help their own climate. Now it looks like those three will be very successful companies. And so i'll have more money to put into the tough areas a climate like cement and steel and quote. Okay so he says he doesn't want to talk about his investments but then he in response to another question talks about his investments in impossible foods beyond me quantum scape and then how does investments are doing and that i'll have more money to then go on an invest in other stuff. I mean how much more could you talk about your investments. And he uses the first person tense. You're saying i invested. He's asked about bitcoin and he says quote. I don't own bitcoin. I'm not short bitcoin. So i've taken a neutral view and quote so for bitcoin. Perfectly fine to say i'm not short bitcoin. Same question for tesla. oh. I don't want to talk about my investments that we just spent a bunch of time talking about. If you're not going to answer the question at least come up with a better non answer. That doesn't immediately contradict yourself. He has to have known that he'll be asked about that and yet seems completely content guard answer so that was last week if there was any doubt left after that because he did start off. By saying yeah. I'm not before interrupting himself as we said. Here's gates on bloomberg yesterday so we had five days to think about this answering the same question from emily. Chang yuan has in the past claimed you shorted tesla and i wonder if there's any truth to that Well you know i think. Test us on amazed seen company I wish you know own. Been more on the long side. But i it's it's great And you know i have. Lots of relatives won't tassels Helped by for them. So you know nothing. But positive thoughts about tesla role. Okay so if the answer to the cnbc question was a bit of a flood. There was a clear opportunity to just say. Hey i'm not sure. Tesla was jor tesla and again gates passes and he sure doesn't look comfortable to me answering the question. Belief is that it looks pretty clear. That bill gates was short. Tesla who knows if he's still is it'd be surprised but come on. How are you going to be all about climate change and then short the one company that's doing more than any other company on earth to combat it. If you don't think it's a good investment you think it's overvalued you can just not invest in it. No one has any problem with that but too short it push the stock price down. Make it more difficult for tesla to raise capital. That's something else entirely.

"It's the audi look it definitely represents the audi brand but many bits of it are shed because at the same company and so you know that would make sense in fact even the little knobby that you used to do. The steering wheel upi down any outy. That's the same. But there are many of the things that i mean. You'd never see underneath the steering wheel you have to feel for. You can't even see the thing unless should be on your hands and knees and who cares who cares if the way that you move the steering wheel up and down in and out is the same on a porsche and audi some people bothered by that. I'm certainly not to compare it. With other audi's this is quicker than the are six and the irs seven. He's got forty six horsepower. More when the press were allowed to test drive the car before release by the white those that did it with those little speed trump fund. Dongo things that you put on the dashboard of the draghi's they timed at two point. Eight eight seconds note to sixty two and that's interesting again. That's a very german thing very porsche thing. Underplaying the car. Underplaying the specs when they give these audi. Give these specs by the way. These will always be in terms of the range. They'll be on the low end so that will be on the worst whale so if it comes twenty you can spec it with twenty one inch non era wheels. They'll give you that they'll put on the worst wheels like the biggest wheels the least error the namic and they'll do the testing in a in a way that doesn't exaggerate the range to leave you to leave. You disappointed like the way porsche have always done even with combustion cars and so. It's the same with tycoon. They give you the absolute worst case scenario. Hopefully you are surprised and delighted. Of course the the people that like to argue on twitter the stats nerds will take those numbers as gospel because they know nothing about generally i mean anything that talking about how the ones bicker on twitter just spoiling for an argument and then normally from one particular car brand because they are the disciples however if we want to look at the you're on. Gt cost it's about eighty seven thousand pounds. The gt will cost ninety nine thousand eight hundred euros in germany. So i've done that calculation to the uk. That's a uk price that i've got from audi by the way it's about three thousand pounds more than the ticon four s and it's seven thousand pounds more than the model s. Long range okay. Let's talk about the rs. Model is available from the first day on sale as well. The model costs from one hundred and twenty thousand pounds so you are in rarefied air up them. Frightens hundred and twenty grand for a four door. Five seats luxury torah. That's one hundred thirty eight thousand euros five. Grand a tycoon..

Cast get some tickets. Excuse me it's going to be one of those days solo show. Yeah going to be one of those days. What's new all sorts of things? I was supposed to be going to Geneva next week. I had to put actually pull out a couple of weeks ago for a little while ago for for for different reasons but as I sit here. Everybody's wondering what's going to happen because these corona I mean for those who don't know Geneva historically was always one of the the biggest auto shows of the year it was kind of premier one in Europe Attended by all the kind of literati globally as an in neutral Switzerland. Yeah I need supposed to happen. The press days next Tuesday and we're all waiting for messages to listings happening on now. I mean it's A. It's a huge deal about the millions literally tens of millions of hundreds of millions that are spent on this and is it. Is it kind of late in the game to cancel it? Yeah I mean I. I was telling you it's going to happen. It's just going to be kind of flop. I I mean we had. We had Alfred Mayo. His happens from time to time manufacturers. Come in and show ladies. 'cause we have a chat meet we we talk about life and what role doing and I am a global head of. Pr was saying. You know we've been told not to travel. So it's it's a big deal. Yeah I wonder how they do that. Do they try to find local representation? The have a team there that they have like a local. Pr Team A little bit smaller team yet. But I guess I don't know I mean he's going to be an interesting show. How much money and how much he's committed. But also if if people on traveling and I think the other concern is people are worried that you're GONNA get quarantined. So you end up in Geneva. I'm going to keep talking. You end up in Geneva and if you imagine all the the world the company execs from all over the world traveling into Geneva and then just ending up being Maroon there. I read that that later this year. We have twenty twenty Olympics in Tokyo. They're saying hey we. We need a contingency plan. We may cancel the Olympics and they said but they need you know. They need minimum three months. They can probably do two months lead way to to cancel it but they can't do four days like like what you're talking about. They can't do five days. Well also big Formula Warm Fun. I used to working for him in the world in days. Gone by and there's a little conversation about which pre happen which wouldn't yeah it's It's interesting times. We're also seeing in terms of vehicle production as well because a lot of parts is not just 'cause made in China but he's also parts supply parts moving around the world so this there's a big impact going on and what's going to be the effect of cancelling Geneva. Is it really gonNA manner not matter? Everyone's going to release their cars. And they're gonNA send out the press kits and and and try to find some other place two like they're still going to announce the cars digital digitally. I mean I I was invited to a bunch of events down the I was going to sit down with the Mercedes. Co The global CEO on the boss of AM G. And we're GONNA have half an hour with with those guys and that's always great for me because she always learned so much a fascinating fascinating individuals as well to be running something that big. You know things like that obviously won't happen but I know a of things that Mercedes showing off and yet I'll do it digital release. You'll you'll be they'll send the images alison press releases and away you go. I think the tough thing I Geneva and also shows generally. New York's beginning of April. Is these things you know. There's a lot of pressure on these shows. Little people pulling out anyway if it doesn't happen than we'll ever happen again and Gordon is. What happens to the you know the credits into the billions? Almost what's actually spent in in in some things well? In all of these companies so many companies are taking a financial hit already. Everybody asks to prepare for factories being shut down obviously in the automotive space but products all around the world that so much is is manufactured in China and now that that Krona viruses is spreading. Everything in automotive is expensive and global. Yeah so anything. That's hit Soglo on a global level like this is going to be a big deal. Yeah I roll up in the accurate annex. I WANNA say new but it. It got sort of a revision this past year a little bit different ero and I think they did. Some adjustments on the suspension and stuff. Have you driven the sex yet? So this is I drove the original Essex. The you know the sort of iconic mateen nine. I think it was many years ago but the latest wanted always passing by always being doing doing something else when everyone was around so I finally got into it the last couple of days. It's a it's a fascinating thing I kind of. I really wouldn't like it. I really want to love it because I like the idea of buying an accuracy because I think it feels. Yeah it's almost like I'm coming out and skiing I don't need. I don't need a fraud. Whatever I'm going to buy an ACURA sex because I know what I like. I don't need to everything else so I rely. I like similar technology but I kind of feel it's almost too clever by half in that Scott the three and a half six two but then on top of that these three electric motors. And there's a lot of really clever tech going on but what actually delivers is is questionable and increasing the. I'm unless no less of a fan of potato well. This isn't the plug in or hybrids. Generally I think these days you you either go all in on the electric light the ticon all stick with a stick with a gas engine light the new cove at something and its own to me. It feels like that choice now and carrying around all this complexity and all this weight and everything else for hybrid just just almost feels like old tech even though it's cutting edge on one level
Tesla will return to the ‘Ring in October to try beating Porsche’s EV record
"Porsche versus tesla part two so we went over you guys you you're probably listening the last episode of the podcast where we talked about porsche tycoon am i'm trying to say correctly now porsche ticon is the way i'm supposed to take on a porsche haicang abbott porsche porsche but we all saw that announcement and i don't even know if i can save they technically took any shots at teflon stage but everybody knew that every time they compare themselves to air quotes the competition they were talking about tesla model wasn't the chevy evil it wasn't the chevy volt they didn't really make any nissan leaf jabs onstage they were kinda gone squarely at their high-performance cousin so that happened and you know those kind of silence and there's a little bit of you know people tagging eli like hey what would he say about porsche and i think he did say something like yeah why did you put turbo on the name i don't think that word means it means obviously in this electric car battle but of course the the competitive of nature of a of a competitive CEO just couldn't stay inside and he had to start making moves and i'm sure a lot of this was hush hush for a while but now they're officially working on some new hardware for tesla and i'll probably call this a refresh ya to take on the ticon to take to take the take on take on the tight to make moves so here's what i'll start porsche was bragging about their laptop about the nurburgring right uh-huh thirteen mile tracks something like that very very long lap difficult for an electric car to lap without cooling kicking in limiting performance so they set their record around the nurburgring and a lot of people turn their heads back to tesla like yeah well what are you going to say what are you gonna do like the the porsche is going to be better at driving around tracks than you yeah we talked about it in the episode where we talked about this tesla hasn't been able to do it because it's a grueling track yeah and a huge car so yvonne tweets that the model s. is gonna nurburgring okay like you when you a lot of people don't realize this about the track runs as you don't just show up in your car and just go go and time yourself like this is a this is an officially timed thing you hire professional driver who knows the course well so that he can set your optimal lap time time if you go look at the the best lap times around i think it's both laguna seca and nurburgring but if you look at laguna seconds top like thirty laptops mhm about fifteen or twenty of them are set by the same one guy or in a bunch of different cars which is fascinating because this person knows the ins and outs of the tracks so these race car drivers are hired to yo to go drive and set the best possible app time in that car so you tweet this model ascona nurburgring next week and then a bunch of articles come out afterwards like he tesla doesn't have a reservation or any sort of setup or scheduling to actually do this so if they're doing a record run nurburgring doesn't know about it which is kind of a perfectly aligned thing to happen oh yeah but then shortly thereafter this the shorter track called laguna second am i saying that right i'm gonna just mispronounce a lot the things during this i think we'll bruno's right well it's so laguna seca shorter track it's about a minute and a half to lap maybe up to two minutes and he shows a model title s lapping luna secca in a record for four door car one minute thirty six seconds the the tweet is actually from the tesla count this time and they let me actually read the tweet 'cause i was we were in the airport when this tweet came up and i've been sort of just on the on the fence about whether or not tesla's going to refresh their cars and then i saw this in my timelines let me read it so the tweet is some personal news we've lap laguna seca in one minute thirty six point five five five seconds during advanced RND testing casting of our model s. plaid powertrain and chassis prototype that's one second faster than the record for a four-door sedan and he can see this video of of a driver from the driver's perspective and through the front of the car and if you squint you can see there's a model three steering wheel on this car and as a driver ever in helmet assuming not his first lap but he's doing his crazy fast
