"During a confrontation at the home in Yelm tonight. The deputy is in surgery right now, and the man was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center couple strolled Marino's live in Yelm tonight with the latest on this investigation, Joel Very impressed. India. That deputy we're told, is in stable condition as she undergoes surgery. She is in her thirties. The man in his forties, was taken by helicopter to be treated at Harborview. It started as an unwanted person report here on Holly Street Southeast. It's some ways down. This is a kind of a dead end street that goes several blocks down, so we're only seeing one end of it. The call came in and someone who was in a home who was not welcome at that home. The deputy showed up, apparently at some point she was stabbed has happened to shortly after eight o'clock. And she then began firing at the subject is what we're being told. I talked to some neighbors who said that they heard a pop pop pop, so at least three gunshots is what we've heard from a couple different neighbors. Who were in the area at the time that this happened Now there is a very large police presence here. At this point, Neighbors told us they've seen at least 20 patrol units that goes well down the street here. We have not had any access down to the house where this happened. We have seen some deputies going around interviewing neighbors collecting additional information. But again, a deputy in her thirties, responding to an unwanted person call at a home here showed up was stabbed. Began shooting at the subject that subject taken by helicopter to harbor view his condition. We do not know at this point, but again, the deputy in stable condition We'll try to get more information from neighbors.

week gave the resort all the fresh powder they need open on Wednesday white pass opening tomorrow after getting nearly two feet of snow in the last two days and Baker is opening Sunday crystal mountain mission ridge already held their opening day seven listen sixteen trails will be open a crystal tomorrow stop on the past only to little more snow to get those slopes already shredded up I got this notice is while old and he has been dancing like crazy a lot of you out right because it was getting a little bit worrisome for a while we were deep into December and the snow was not falling and sticking up there but changed over the last couple of days a winter Wonderland is right this is the shot from mount Baker captured earlier today by Randy small he got the trees which all of a sudden weighted down with that fleecy heavy coating of winter white and then the cars getting covered too including this one from Florida they're not at all in Florida anymore right but for awhile it didn't feel like we were even then in the north west you're in the middle of December without that mountain snow that we're so used to seeing but it's back it continues to snow at times tonight will also see some spotty rain in the low to rain and then things will dry out but we're going to trade the shower activity for the cold air and status we slide into the weekend cloudy skies right now over the emerald and it's a cool forty five pretty typical for this time of year but it's nice and quiet for now maybe not the case so for the rest of the night because there are definitely some showers still lurking out there namely here over the cascades if we zoom in there for a closer look you can see the beautiful blue continuing to fall it's no pami passed so we'll continue to tally up that snow rain album tall and back towards the upon the Senate through the course of the night after the five twenty bridge looks like a white stretcher between Kirkland and back toward Ravenna Laurelhurst tonight right over husky stadium and then back toward the ocean beaches talk about some heavy showers you can see those are really coming down and a good intensity around ocean park and at this point they'll continue to track to the north and east such that they should end up around Chehalis at two thirty and then in Olympia close at three thirty so even if it's quite a new roof top right now when you're going to bed chances are you might get rattled awake later tonight is another in the showers will Sam after this though our next weather maker for the weekend and especially in the early next week will be another little ridge of high pressure building in and remember that was the feature that was was with us through most of the fall in the early part of December which had been keeping everything so quiet as it builds in here the showers are going to quiet down and instead we're going to see some sunshine but also some issues with fog cropping up especially by Sunday and Monday mornings in the meantime tonight hopping into the thirties and getting cool out there but still some lingering scattered showers so wouldn't be surprised to see what still flicker to make stand although nothing that's going to stick around for any length of time tomorrow afternoon back into the low to mid forties look at Bellevue barely cracking forty degrees there's some locations on the east side so it's going to rain chilly and again some lingering scattered showers for the morning including around the northwest interior closer to the ocean beaches will continue drying out as well so slowly but surely heading toward drier weather for the weekend eastern Washington a similar picture some lingering spotty showers some of which could include some wet snow north of I ninety over the cascades past travel has been really tricky but the great news for the ski resorts up there as the snow continues to tally up overnight it will get easier across the passes and it will be wonderful skiing for you you're looking forward to it for this condition it looks perfect we'll see some sunshine on the slopes get to enjoy it and then we'll try out for a few days next week around the snow though do in by late next week and I think at that point we'll have a lot more but this gives race yet again yes great news thanks sure we want to thank everyone who donated to the como toy drive today your generosity helps raise more than saying here dollars on top of that we collected more than seven thousand toys the money and toys benefit the salvation army to help make the season "Mainly Thurston county, but Louis and Pierce counties could see some as well mos- overnight will dip near freezing. So any precipitation could make roads slick tomorrow morning. I'm Kelly Blair with your forecast from the KOMO forecast team. This is KOMO morning. News rewind a lot of people are concerned that kids are spending too much time online on their phones, and ipads these days, but parents can and should embrace the realities of modern childhoods according to temple university. Professor, doctor Jordan Shapiro, and Dr Shapiro's is with us right now. Good morning. Good morning. Great to be here. We're great. I know we have enough trouble staying off our phones and other devices. How do Paris keep kids off them? I think I would flee the conversation. You know, I think we have enough. Trouble staying there. Because no parents taught us how to how to really manage that ourselves. And so what I'd really like to see parents do is say, hey, we need to teach our kids the etiquette. So that they know how to make the right decision. But even more so how to live a digital life online. So much of our life is digital at this point, we use Skype. We use Email. We use social media. Nobody really taught how to handle that. Right. Like, how do you do the etiquette of that the digital world is like a giant Blake rows? Right. It's a playground for kids. It's it's absolutely a playground. But no parents walked into this playground. It would they grabbed. So but somewhat stops at share. Or would they hit? No kidding. Instead, we sort of less of the go alot. And it's almost as we said, here's all the rules for crossing the street that go try it by yourself. We don't do that. We hold their hands up walk. The walk our kids across the street, but we're not only their hands on the internet. I have a seven year old at home and the whole iphone ipad thing is already an issue. How do you start and win is too early to start teaching kids? Most doctors say you want you don't really wanna start until about two years older. But I would say the sooner you do it. And maybe not for lots of time at the sitter. You do it the better because you want to build those patterns into into their lives. You want to build those healthy healthy relationships from the beginning. And you want that healthy relationship to be modeled by the adults? Right. We need to show them how to do that. So the best thing I would say is is baby don't use it with little kids. I had an iphone as a as a way to distract that babysit with them and use it with that play with that. But we look at all the research is. Almost all the interactions that kids have with their parents around screens are either restrictive or these negotiations about what are the screen type will not pay. Here's how you should think about what you're seeing this creed. Here's how you should make sense of this game. Here's how you should integrate it into your life as a as both digital and a real life person. Well, it's definitely a timely topic. And Dr Shapiro has written a book about this. Call the new childhood raising kids to thrive in a connected world. That's temple university. Professor, doctor Jordan Shapiro. The KOMO morning news with MandA factor. In Gregg Hersholt on KOMO.
