That is a como forest Marianne parents gathered once again to protest the slim school district plans to reconfigure elementary schools into one school for kindergarten through grade two students and another school for students, third through 5th grades. We get the details from como four's Molly Shen. This follows Monday's protest where parents also voiced their frustration. We believe it'll be extremely disruptive after all the COVID disruptions is especially concerning. Our next step is try to get Reagan fired. I don't know where else to go to get this crucial. When you have hundreds of parents standing up, swim superintendent, Reagan Nichols, cites a 2002 research project on reconfiguring schools, saying the change would provide more support and learning experiences, curated for each grade. However, parents say moving kids is too disruptive and transportation across town would add about an hour getting to and from each school from school each day. And less parents get their way that reconfiguration plan will start in the fall. That's como forest Molly Shen. And at 6 34, it's time again to head over to the high performance homes traffic center. We get a check of their roads. John Nelson, it's still pretty early, so I imagine things are smooth out there right now, right? That's part looking pretty good. So if you get on from there, you're beyond it. But then there was a crash in the back up that originally was on the left side. That's been consolidated to the right as well. So the right lane is blocked still, northbound three 95 before the on ramp from the George Washington Parkway. On 95 south ballad lord, the crash was on the left shoulder of the travel lanes are open, but still there to be seen, and no delays to report in the way of 66 around the beltway and Maryland and Virginia. "Food banks strong The decision I didn't come to lightly but it's been 14 years It's been 14 years and I want to make more room to do more philanthropically to do more with my foundation I've definitely not been able to do nearly as much As I have wanted to recently it's a really important moment for women Emily I know you and I have spent a lot of time talking about that over the years but it really feels like a very very important moment When I think more focused there was really the importance to me personally I made a final decision this weekend and let Mark know I think you know the rules are such that once I've made a decision we do not have a lot of time to announce so that's why the timing between decision and is so tight This was a decision I made that I did not come to lightly and it really is about how I will spend my time not how much I believe in the company I believe in the company I put as much as I ever did I'm staying on the board And I really have complete confidence in the team Mark and I have built I think they're going to do a great job building the future for a company that's a huge part of my life and a huge part of my heart We have a current business which is our current app to connecting customers to businesses And I think there's a lot of opportunity there right now but also over the long run And then the metaverse is a much longer term business opportunity And it's going to take some of the same form and I believe we will be a place and then the men of ours will be a place where businesses and consumers can act But I think the exact form that takes is something that will be figured out over the next number of years Much longer term Welcome back to Bloomberg technology I'm Emily Chang in New York That was part of my exclusive interview with Sheryl Sandberg along with my colleague Kurt Wagner who announced today that she is leaving meta after 14 years as the company's chief operating officer Sandberg now 52 years old she joined Facebook get this when she was 38 and Mark Zuckerberg was just 23 She'll officially leave the company in the fall but she'll stay on meta's board for more on what this all means I'm joined now by Bloomberg Sarah fryer who of course covers technology and social media for us along with Steven levy editor at large at wired and author of the book Facebook the inside story Steven you heard Cheryl's words there her explanation for why and why now What's your read on this Well I think the surprise is why she stayed so long A lot of people thought that it would have happened earlier It's not a big surprise that she's going on to something else No one can say she cut and run when Facebook ran into troubles because she wrote it out long past the time Some people thought she would And once the company changed its name and refocus on the metaverse you could tell the clock was ticking Sarah what's your take I mean you know in that interview she talks about how you know we asked her is she going to go back into business Are we going to see her in politics someday She said all of that is very unlikely She really wants this time She wants to work on her philanthropy and still never say never But not something that we should expect to see her do What do you think Well I think if she wanted to leave Facebook in a good place likely and it's really been a difficult time to find a good place to leave Facebook It's a company in constant turmoil They've had multiple scandals some of them you know Cheryl Sandberg contributed to through the company's grow at all costs and advertising business user growth and then solving the problems after the fact She did try hard to make sure that Facebook could change the way the public sees it the regulators could see it differently but this is a company that is just such a big powerful force to continue to have issues and so there was no bright horizon moment for her to leave Facebook She just had to make the call and I think what she was saying about the transitions of the metaverse that gives a little bit of a clean moment for her to say like listen I built Facebook up to a nearly $120 billion business It's time for the next era to begin and that's not really the era that she needs to be a part of Let's talk about that next era Steven You know obviously Sheryl Sandberg did For better or for worse become the face of many of Facebook's controversies I imagine it was difficult to find that good time to leave And yet she is inarguably one of the most influential people in business today How would you assess or explain her legacy She came to me You pointed out mark was only 23 She was 38 She built a big business at Google And she changed Facebook's culture When she got there it was still very much a dorm room flavored Kind of bro engineering based culture and she knew how to build it out to something bigger something more welcoming to a more diverse group of employees She built up the business The ad business you know you could say that maybe point a finger at her and saying the way she built it up was to build it up on personal data and target advertising That was something that Sheryl really nurtured and delivered in a spectacular fashion to advertisers And then she was also in charge of the policy aspect of Facebook And again that's where they run into a lot of trouble And again you see it's interesting They had a few months ago that part of it was shifted to Nick clay who took over that part of the company's role Which previously had been Charles domain and Nick reports directly to Mark And so before that whole policy thing the Washington D.C. thing which you think Cheryl would be so adept at because she came from D.C..

"And my mom and I were going. She was going to drop me off when she was in the parking lot. And she heard on the radio that, um, you know, the twin towers have been crushed into and that you know, she obviously didn't know what was happening. But you had to assume the very worst. And that's kind of how that day began an unfolded for her in the middle of what would have otherwise been a very regular normal day. One day she was living with An infant and a three year old and she had her husband by her side. And then the next day she didn't We didn't talk about my dad a lot growing up, not in the sense that he was hidden or something that he shouldn't be talked about. But maybe that was her way of coping. You know, she couldn't Talk about my dad all the time and keep herself study and keep everything really normal. But now I have all these questions that I don't always know how or when to ask. And she said, I think very recently like I wish I'd talked about your dad more growing up because she'll realize there's these things that she thinks we know, but we don't know. The song will come on in the car, and she'll be like this song reminds me of your dad. So now when I'm out and I hear Come on, Eileen O turned to my roommate like my dad. My dad like this song, The song reminds my mom of my dad. A lot of what I know of my dad is stories. It's um not like my own personal memories because I was so young, but To my dad's name was Dennis Cook, and he's from Lancaster, Pennsylvania. I get told that Sofia looks a lot like my dad and I'm like the mix of my mom and my dad. And so I like constantly. I feel like I'm looking at pictures of my dad trying to pull out myself and him. He Was often described as like a funny but loving guy. Uh um. But I mean, I've never heard a joke, He's told. That's just what everybody tells me. But oh, my gosh, I want so badly for people to tell me not like Bad things about him. But like more human character traits. Yeah, like the like, the real trouble he got into when he was in college. They weren't going to tell me the stuff when I was, like, eight years old. Was your dad like he was very nice, Lindsey. So now I'm like, Give me the dirt like, Give me the inside scoop about my dad. One of my favorite pictures I have with my dad as having a tea party, and it's like, you know, one of those teeny tiny little kitty tables.

"Dreams and if you ask me i believe giving back and giving the abundance and go back and help other people. That's the magic sauce to doing. Well yeah i love it. I think it's what you're doing is is all out and especially at first. You were in complete command. You're spending still in commander you're spending. I'm sure you just have more income so you can. You can lighten up a little bit. it's out. I bet on the spending side but you can complete command. You're spending you built. Your financial foundation got got the basics right with that. And then i think what's interesting is you would not be able to achieve that vision in the time line that you wanted as a teacher and i don't mean that as bash or anything like that i just. I had a similar thought when i was at my old career like. Hey if i continue this. I'll be a financial analyst to and then a senior financial analyst and then finance manager and my vision will not be realized under that track. And so do you have any comments on that like. Hey i'm i'm listening. I'm inspired by. What tiffany just said. And i want to go after that big vision but like obviously my current career track is not going to support that i have i would have to make a pivot and take all the risks and the all out intensity and obsession for one decade or so in order to begin getting on the the route that you're on how do you. How does one begin that mental process. Because that was that was really difficult for me. Six seven years ago. I say this that one don't despise humble beginnings. There's there is. Nobody needs to without preschool teacher. Tiffany to just. Isn't i learned to teach in that clash. There's nothing harder than getting a three year old to understand what you mean. How you mean in in for them to to learn a thing because you can be like. Hey we're gonna learn the color red today. Read like an apple. And you're gonna get a three-year-old that might say what's an apple like wait. What so now teach you. An apple is a fruitful. What's a fruit and goodness now before we can even get to the colorado. We have to go back back back back back so one. Just know that where you are is preparing you for where you want to be to not despise humble beginnings because i suspect wherever it is you're going you can't get there without the lessons that you're currently learning where you are and that's one the to farm your skillset at the end of the day. I'm still a teacher. Like i don't people someone told me the other day. Tiffany wow you're like what does he say you've got the golden touch everything you touch turns to gold. I'm like here's my secret. I only touch gold. I don't have the golden touch. I stay in my lame. All i do is teach. I teach through podcasts. I teach through on my online school. The literature academy. I teach to going live on social media. I teach through books like geico with money..

"With three years ago, Put in my garden, pear trees, Plum freeze and one Uh, one peach. And I think it's time to prune. What are some general guidelines on my pruning those three year old fruit trees? Okay, first off. When this is going to shock you When you put that peach And plum in your garden. The first thing you should have done is cut it to be about a 3rd 28 to 32 inch tall stick. It would have freaked you out. And you bet you it looks weird in the garden. But what you would have been doing is to start to build the structure. The foundation The branches that are going to allow the tree to support the most amount of fruit and remain healthiest. Now. That was year. One year to you would have intentionally tried to make Three or four branches come out of the top of that stick and start to head out and spread 90 degrees out from the trunk so that you have the beginning of that structure. After that every year. You're going to prune a surprising amount of tree. Woman PGE away every season up to about 40% of new growth. With the idea that both deployment the peach can go crazy and overproduce. Now. You didn't do that. Not a bad No, I did not grassing up. I said, put him in the ground and water them and I'm happy. Okay, So here's the two things about a plumbing. Impeach. They would like to be shaped in such a way that if you were looking at him They would look somewhat like an open. Upside down Umbrella. They have this kind of ball shape to them. The idea is You want them to get sunlight in the center of the tree it helps with disease. It helps with their flow in that kind of shape. It does everything to Bert. Choose a strong tree. With good quality crop. You're still going to remove almost every season. About 40% of each year's new growth. That's going to create strong branches and still going you plenty of bugs to get, you know a good crop. So you can start working that back a little bit with the goal of I want the tree to have this kind of bowl shape to it. I want the sun to be able to come down in the center of the tree. You're still going to do the normal tree stuff. Head. Stop! Got to go. Two branches rubbing against each other. Pick one. Lot of times you get two branches, ones right above the other. Well, that's not gonna work. So pick which one of those two you want to hang around? And that's normal pruning. After that, the pruning of AH plumber, a peach A and M's got a pretty good photos section. What you're and result is to look like For a plum or a peach. Pretty reasonable you can look and you'll understand quickly on that upside down Umbrella thing. I'm gonna throw you a curve here. Um What do you do about your pair? You're going to want to prune the parents such a way that the growth is spreading out. Probably see a bunch of those straight up water spouts on that pair tree. You don't really want that You want to remove those and leave the branches that tend to be working their way out from the center of the tree. Pair a tree. Look like a normal tree. One big center trunk going up the middle, but you do want it to be open. And those ones that goes straight up and look like they don't have any buds on it. Those you can remove. They're not going to be beneficial in the long term. Paris much more forgiving about it's pruning and growth than the peaches or the plums. And, um, it's not like you're never going to get a picture. Never get a plum. If you don't prune it that way, you just have to understand the stronger you make the branch structure. Better. The qualities fruit will be Well, since I didn't do anything after years one and two And now this. The pear trees are quite tall, whether their water sprouts I don't know, but that say there Oh G 10 11 ft. Tall. Excellent. Excellent. That is not a problem. Prepares. Um, I've got a couple of one of mine is probably I think it topped out around 15 ft. And I'm not getting a whole lot of more straight up in the air growth, but it is starting to get a little bit wider. The nice thing about your pair bomb. Is being in the ground for three years already. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if you get a little fruit this year a lot, but it may put on enough fruit for you to go. Hey, Great. I get to sample with these pears. They're gonna be like So Trim up the ugly look for the rubbing branches. The goal being you want the tree to be able to spread those branches out and be nice and open. The height of the tree isn't a problem. That's a good, healthy tree there. The peach in the plum little bit of truth, trimming up to start to get to the upside down umbrella. You don't have to get there all one year. And you should get. I don't know if you get peaches or plums this year, maybe, but you're more likely to get fruit on the pair of this year. Mm hmm. Well, thank you for that information. And and he said Texas Handem has Ah, site on that. Yes, sir. The site is called. The egg roll life. Extension..
