MLB Spring training: Which Players Have A Shot At Making the Giants' Team?

"One guy that stands out to me and we'll get to Luciano. We've talked so much about him and how exciting and tantalizing he is. But we're talking bullpen, arms and guys who have a legitimate shot to make this team and one of the parting gifts from Bobby Evans. It seems like one of these guys. Camilo dove all he's been in the system time now did we saw him against the Dodgers the other night? He is exciting, and I think is you put out carry the best hair in the Giants bullpen right now. Oh, yeah, he he does have the best care because last year they had a guy Rodolfo Martinez, who was a Johnny Cueto look like just with better dreadlocks than Johnny Cueto. If you can imagine that this year, they've got Camilo Jovel who does not have better dreadlocks. But he has died his dreadlocks, so they're like orangish Red, And I'm hoping that by the regular season he'll have in his Giants Orange, because could you imagine that coming out of the bullpen? Got weapon 97 98 with a cutter and the breaking off a nasty slider. And then all of a sudden he's got the closer like hair, Camilo Devil and you make a great point. He is a parting gift from Bobby Evans. And this is something that we should talk about. I should write about eventually is all the parting gifts from Bobby Evans because you're starting to see the fruit of the Giants International. Sign me focus coming through the system. Marco Luciano, a Bobby Evans guy, Alexander Canario, Bobby Evans Guy. Curving Castro, a Bobby Evans guy. And so the Giants are starting to see this focus that we saw in the like post 2014 2015 World Series era where they went down to the Dominican Republic, Venezuela and other Latin American countries and sign some dudes and you're seeing that those dudes who they got when they were 16 17 years old are coming through this farm system and are going to be ready to contribute and so The village of all immediately popped out the other night against the Dodgers Cubs, But there's several other players, several other young players. Several other young pitchers who have really stood out so far. Well in another one is from the left side. Jake long this kid is from Sacramento. I think you would the Sac state or he's like up from the Northern California area. So he said. It was so funny. The quote I saw from him the other day was Buster Posey called him over to throw a bullpen and he called him by his name, and he was all stoked that Buster newest name because he's of that age group beauties like you and I. If Buster called us over, he'd be like, dude, that's Buster Posey calling my name so Him from the left side. You know, I hate to do the com thing, but I'm getting I'm getting Billy Wagner Vibes. Dude, What do you think? Billy Wagner vibes? That's that's fascinating. And so the reason I say that is because the jobs are actually building this guy up is a starter there. They're thinking of him a 97 from the left side, a guy with a hammer curveball and a good change up there looking at him as someone who could actually be in the rotation. And so when can't first started? Gabe Kapler traffic trump Buster Posey. They all said. Hey, pay some attention to this Sam Long guy. He's got something to him. And we're thinking, okay, This is just, you know, a guy who threw two good bullpens. You never know that happens every spring. He's probably a double A or maybe a triple a arm who could help them out of the bullpen Eventually. Then all of a sudden, he appears in the Cactus League opener against the Angels, and he has got major league stuff. No question in my mind after seeing him. Three pitches in I turn to Mark Sanchez in the press box. I go. I have seen enough. This guy can help the Giants right now, and I think that in keeping him as a starter and sending him down to triple A or double a to open up the season, you're potentially talking about someone copes who could somehow morphed his way into the Giants top pitching prospect and maybe beat Sean Jelly or Tristen back or some things other guys. The chance to excited about to the major league level. And so it's really fasting to see Sam Long come out of the bullpen because you're juxtaposing that with guys like Camilo, Javelin Caribbean Castro, who is another guy, Bobby Evan, signed who just has that hammer curve coming out of the bullpen 97. Very little mite early experience. But there are the pieces in place and you can correct me if I'm wrong. If you've seen anything differently, the first three or four days of spring training their pieces in place for the Giants to have one of the most exciting bullpens and Major league baseball and potentially one of the best is far as electricity goes like with stuff

Bobby Evans Giants Johnny Cueto Camilo Dove Rodolfo Martinez Camilo Jovel Buster Posey Camilo Devil Marco Luciano Dodgers Alexander Canario Curving Castro Billy Wagner Luciano Sam Long Buster Gabe Kapler Dominican Republic Venezuela Cactus League

How to Know Exactly What to Work on in 2021

"One of the biggest mistakes i've done in the past and i've seen a lot of entrepreneurs do is if they have too many goals right they try to achieve too many things and therefore they don't know what to work on. They don't know what takes priority. They say that everything's important. We want to have a bigger market. Share we wanna grow more customers. We want to be more profitable. You wanna have more revenue. We wanna lower costs. They want more free time. They won't more Autonomy they want to hire more people they say all the stuff we wanna do all and this is what makes it difficult to choose what to work on because certain things will help you which one of these goals. But the things won't this makes it difficult for you to know what to work on. Because you don't know what takes precedent what resources you need to spend or us on tasks or projects. It can get really overwhelming. So i want to challenge you as we start this year to reevaluate. What your goal is for this year. A want you to choose one goal one focus for the entire year. I mentioned this before. This is something. I learned from. Noah kagan who was employee thirty facebook and he learned this from mark zuckerberg and facebook. They have a singular goal. Now that goal may change from one year to the next before the year. that's all they focus on one singular goal for them. It was growth for them. When noah was there as employees thirty it was getting as many users on the platform. Now what's great about. This is that any time they make a decision what to work on the just have to ask the question. Does it help achieve their singular goal. If it does they do if they don't they don't now of course it's going to be a lot of gray area in between we'll talk about that in a moment how to evaluate. What are things will get closer to that goal or not but none of this is possible if we have too many goals and it's a lot easier if you just choose one goal now this is where the fun part comes. You get to choose what you want from this year. No remember next year you can choose a different goal but just choose one. What is the one thing that if you achieved it would make twenty two one success for your business. Maybe you want to take home on more profitable. So profitability is our goal maybe actually your array profitable and you're really happy with that level profitability. And now you wanna make your goal reaching more people so growth. If you're let's say your fitness coach you want to double the amount of people impact now as you could see. I'm choosing goals. That are quite broad but at the same time they're specific to a certain outcome so be careful. Don't choose things like. I want to improve my blog. Well why do you want to prove was wrong with the right now. Well i wanted to be like this. Why do you want it to be like this. Well i wanna attract new customers. What's the point of attracting new customers. While i want them to convert wanna grow my customer base so is growth customer growth. Really what you're looking for. That's really the goal because Improving your blog is a task right. It's one of the tasks you my focus on this year to help you with growth but really improving. The blog has an end goal. Really go deep. What's the end goal. So now that we have one goal one focus for the year We make that a big bold statement. This is what we're shooting for. Okay now there's a ton of things you can do to achieve a particular goal. Let's say for example We're gonna use facebook's growth goal. They want to bring in as many users as many customers as possible. They have users because they don't really sell a product they sell advertising. But the point here is that. Let's say you're trying to bring in as many customers as possible now. Remember if that's the goal you're willing to do things to achieve that goal meaning may be lowering your prices to get more customers or running more sales or more offers or doing partnerships or spending money on marketing. See the point here by something. Are you going to spend something to get that ultimate goal so your goals growth. Let's say what are the things that you can do this year in your business to help grow your usery's to bring more customers in one of those things might be. I wanna start a youtube channel. One could be. I want to create a free course on my website so people can opt in get on my email list and convert them into customers in other one might be marketing campaign. Where i'm gonna do weekly deals on my products and services another might be. I'm gonna launch an affiliate program. So i can get to bring in customers for me so these are just a list of projects that you can just do a brain dump in document the title. Today is lessons. What do you work on. But we're really specifically. What are you work on now. Next all that kind of stuff. So i'm gonna tell you what year do with this list if you have a team and if your soul preneurs let's start with team and this is a concept that we borrowed from the people at basecamp jason freed and david hammer hanson or the team members ryan singer wrote a book cults shape up a highly recommended if you're in the software business but it's their way to decide what to work on to improve the product product management but the concepts in there can be applied to any business and while it console wanna share with you today. They'll help you choose. Is this idea of pitching and betting ideas. So for example i wore ninja. We have a goal and we have a list of ideas of ways. We can achieve duggal new features new initiatives all that kind of stuff and people in the management team are responsible for creating a pitch for each idea. So each of us will take on two or three pitches. What does the pitch. It's basically a message aka document Inside a base camp that just really advocates for why we should do this task why we should take on this project so for example somebody might say you know if we want to grow our customers. We have free plan. So they'll you know right up a few paragraphs put some thoughts. Maybe some sketches and say you know what this is why. I think we should work on the free plan I or next. And everybody will do their pitches and will throw them into basecamp which is a project management tool and we'll all read these pictures and then one day we meet together on a video call and we do what's called. The betting table is what they call in shape the bedding table and allows us to bet we get to our for what we should and should not do as a team we collectively say you know what these tasks are the most effective things we can do to get a sore goal and in this exercise as a team we discover which things we should do first second third throughout the year. Because we're gonna work on the things that were going to move the needle. The most i now even if you don't have a team maybe it's just you. Maybe your solar moore. You can still. Do you. Still write down your ideas. Ri- some details about these ideas. Why you think they can help your business. This exercise of advocating for this idea and writing it out. It's not just for fun okay. It's not just to go through the procedure by writing things out it forces you to really think about. Is this really something that's going to help. Not just on the surface ideas on the surface. All seem all k. They seem like good ideas but often when we have to defend these ideas and explain why they can really allow us to achieve our goals or our singular goal. In this case we start to realize Maybe there are other things that are better to do. Maybe not as an effective ideas. I thought it was. Or maybe it's a good idea but it's a nice to have not a must have so even if you are solar newark right down the reasons why these ideas should be implemented and then once we have all these pitches for yourself you can score each pitch from one to ten one. Being least effective and ten is most effective in terms of achieving your goal. This will allow you to at least have a rough way to kind of score each pitch and then order them based on how effective they can be to help you achieve We're looking to do year.

NASCAR: 2019 Monster Energy Cup Guide

"Has been an entertaining eight races so far in the twenty one thousand nine Monster Energy Nascar Cup series playoffs. Two races to go and Phoenix plays host to the final cut off race of the year. All the drivers. Those six that we mentioned are gonNA make last last ditch efforts to make the championship race at homestead. And Moran's Woody Canes D Post and Alex Hayden are here to recap the Texas weekend and how it impacts what we'll see in the cup series this weekend in Phoenix Okay mic. Well Steve Post is here from pit road for the motor racing network. Alex Hayden is here from the booth for the motor racing network. And we're you're talking playoffs playoffs boys here. We go so after Texas things kind of got a little weirder than we expected we roll in now with two who guys locked in Kevin Harvick. Who by the way has won three straight fall raises at Texas Martin tricks junior got locked in the week before? Then you get down to the best of arrest Category Kyle Busch twenty two points to the Good Joey Logano twenty points to the Good Denny Hamlin now twenty points. Underline Blaney and Larson Twenty three points joints under the line and Chase Elliott way back seventy eight points behind the line. Let's start off with denny and Chase Steve. It wasn't a week ago that most people a lot of people were going Denny Hamlin. This really might be as year. He seems like he's peaking at the right time. One of those people was me I was I was just convinced. A one of the challenges and I think one of the challenges we've seen with Denny. Alex all up jumped out at upper case. Because you know any better than all of us denny is a the great race car driver extremely talented but one of the challenges. He's always had his in this playoffs and incomplete honesty. The question has always been his his his mental toughness. Okay and and I know a couple years ago. He lost a championship and it was like the wheels fell off from him. The wheels fell off from everything else. It didn't look like we had any of that now and it's still like the mental toughness. Is there it was just mechanical stuff. And things like that but Alex when we look at Denny. He appears on the outside that he's got everything in his life buttoned. The upper everything focused on it but right now he's got some ground to make up he does. And you know it's crazy because I'm trying to think back and I have been for about a week now for crying out out loud. Have we ever had. A playoff warner was had more twists and turns and that was just one driver but with multiple drivers. You're right what he won't get any Hamlin was the guy to beat and a lot of people already saying you know what. He's the favourite to win this twenty nineteen championship but after what we saw Texas. I think it's just a piece of humble pie. Hi for everybody that reminds us in this. Anything can usually does happen. If that unpredictable. Every single lap actually matters it's in for Denny Hamlin to to come out and have such a solid bid stage of the playoffs to have some drama now and find himself on the outside looking being in Steve to your point mental toughness. It's GonNa come into play so Dinnie at attract a one mile race track at his first Ever Cup series. Poll was right here. Sure At at at I s raceway Phoenix. Where we're going this weekend? He's got a little bit of history here he's got a little bit of comfort zone. Here doesn't matter where the start finish line is now the delay out of this race. Track is exactly the same as it's always been so denny Hamlin's gotta dig deep and he's gotta find that mental toughness right now and I think one of the things he can rest comfortably on which is really strange. Is that a week ago. He was in the same spot. Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were pretty pretty comfortable on points. And I think Denny's got a bank on. Well look what happened to me and maybe can happen one of those guys to and You know but but the reality of it is twenty points. Sounds like a lot but someone has a problem in a stage. Denting wins the stage. She's cut that in half forty point swing at forty exactly and I think that would be needs to look at. He had a forty point swing in Texas one of those guys in front. All of them could have a forty point swing and Phoenix. All right you guys were talking about the crazy. Let's get to the other half of that. Chase Elliott a playoff win to blown motors a broken axle and and a crash. Alex has anybody had crazier playoff stretch. Then Chase Elliott no next and I hate to laugh and I hate to make light of it because I mean tastes in that race. Doing all they can but they can't control mechanical failures and that to me is what separates nascar racing from other stick and ball sports. Yeah you need team effort unless it's a golf or or tennis or something of that nature but in racing you gotTa have the team you gotTa have the driver talent and the ability but you also better have some some hope. That lady looks going to be on your side because there are thousands of moving mechanical manacle parts. We're dealing with machines and sometimes things break. It doesn't matter how well they're built pieces of metal will break sometimes and chase Elliott's learning Dan. He's learning it the hard way but that doesn't mean he's out to me. That's kind of the beauty of the way we do things in nascar racing determine our champion you basically got three strikes strikes well he. He's used to be swings already. But that doesn't mean he won't hit a home run on the third pitch right so for Chase Elliott and his fans don't were you got one last shot at it come IFM raceway but boy. Oh boy he's GONNA I don't have to hit the baseball heart. He's going to have to hit it I long way. Here's crazy. Crazy to the guy crashed at the rover. And once that's my that was my thought. And after that role he he crashed anyone the race and I said this guy has momentum desk game set match. This is going to be spectacular to watch how good chase Elliott is the one thing and I chatted with chase I think it was Talladega. And he said the one thing about when you're you're behind his you know what you have to do. They go there when they roll that car off the truck into that garage area. They're going. They're just for they're not staged pointing. They're not doing this. They're not doing now. Alan Gustafson and chase Elliott know that they need to be in the lead on lap three twelve or whenever we throw the checkered flag and that's the only goal and so there is a degree agree that that does define a little bit closer what they need to do. Where when you look at the other guys? They're all within twenty three points. They could be in the middle of that race running calculators others and doing math because one of them had a bad stage or something chase Elliott. It's simple for him going to go on. Dia some woody. Let's talk about. Sim raceway specifically. You mentioned any Hamlin in his comfort level there Alex one of the things he said over the weekend I thought was really interesting. It is still the same race track. But with the way restarts there are now with the new positioning at the start. Finish line. oftentimes you're starting restarting in the turn itself. And then you're fanning out five six wide before you gotta funnel it back down again. That's going to add to the whole level of crazy there. It absolutely is and when you look at the the last handful of races that I assume raceway in Phoenix. We've had a lot of long green flag run so those restarts at the conclusion of the stages or any caution flags for that matter They're going to be absolute chaos. So I love okay. The the thinking is here because if you have the chance to be a part of the championship four on points you're going to be awfully nervous when those restarts come around if you're chase L. E.. You got nothing to lose your relaxed. Go get it but you gotta be careful all the way around this place because if you get into the fence racing a little too aggressively or balance off of another car and have time maybe cut a tire down. If you have to make an unscheduled green flag pit stop. It doesn't matter if you need points or if you need a win the bottom bottom line is chances are your race is going to be over. So there's GonNa be some puckered up race car drivers on restarts remember because nobody nobody wants to be the guy that drops lug nut on the four tire change or can't get the car review order. Have the Jack Fall off out from underneath the Jack Peg on the side of the car. Little little tiny mistakes can absolutely not happen if you're one of the championship contenders all right. Mike there you go alex and Stephen. I've just solve all the world's problems now we'll just have have to wait and see how it plays out this

What...Just...Happened?

"Dozo with Sunday it baseball's Jessica and does and Jess Wow that game last night was insane that's the kind of name I got to tell you do the post-game work and you go back to the hotel and you're staring at the walls in the hotel room wide awake because you have so much his rental in and I was what about you because eventually I did go back to sleep but you had to get up like three hours later to get up this morning yeah it was up at five and then you write everything and I know now I have such an appreciation for writers because I like to give all of because I know that everyone that I'm working with this morning didn't watch the game and so I basically the right everything that I feel like we're the highlights of things I want to get into all the stuff I need them to look up graphics Oh that's put me up until one two in the morning and the I'm upset if I walk into work and getting ready to go so I'm a morning person it's been the nights that like that's why I'm so excited about this game six because I'll tell you what there's been a couple of games this world series where I'm like fighting sleep in the sixth seventh innings. I've only got a few hours this one I mean buster there were times I was jumping on my bed in my hotel room liking the TV Blake I'm sure my neighbors the hotel do not appreciate I'm like come on the world series game six you should be watching it was it was a nutty gate for the most part we'll put it this way in the first five games the world series there was one lead change last night we had two plus all the craziness for that game distinguish itself from the rest of the world series and I've got a laundry list of stuff to get tune we'll get into all of what happened last night but let's start with this I thought you know Dave Martinez what an emotional night like he goes absolutely nuts during the course of the game we're in the seventh inning stretch and he looked down the field and all of a sudden I see Dave Martinez being restrained by one of his coaches and he's going after the umpires he winds up getting a in our life by the Japan and their life go ahead the one who's restoring him he's gotTa winds up being rejected first manager in twenty three years to be objected from a world he's game and then after the game you get knuckleheads like me going in there and ask you know the right questions about how he felt in that moment and what did you think about the call I Dave Martinez handled it perfectly because he's like you know what I don't WanNa get any that I don't want to talk about that and he said it respectfully he said I I understand but you know what it's all about game seven in so many words and that's exactly what I thought he should have done in that moment considering what the outcome was there was no reason for him to relive all the details game unless they lose like I feel like and not that you want to relive it anyway and you WanNa take the high road but there was a moment there and this is for the people who weren't watching the game live but when you're watching it live during the entire time empires had the headsets on that that the showing trae Turner in the out just the emotions completely I mean honestly watching the broadcast they were bleeping out every other word was coming out of that dugout because it was so much emotion it felt like that something we're gonNA WE'RE GONNA be talking about this moment for years because in that moment it felt like the nationals are gonNA lose this game and this is why it's GonNa be because of this so I think Dave Martinez would have been a completely different person had anthony rendon day income and hit that home run I think then he would have been a lot more but when you win the game and it's like why go back in blow up that entire call a hundred percent and that's what I thought was really smart by him to not go back and relive that because they won the game and they force game seven and game seven will be started by Max Scherzer who chess on Sunday comes walking stiffly into the interview room in front of reporters he When he was answering questions he wasn't turning his neck he was sitting in his wheelchair and turning the whole swivel chair to talk to reporters and he was so down he gets a cortisone shot which pitchers talk about is being such essentially a miracle drug and then yesterday when we walk into the Ballpark here in Houston he's in catching the outfield and goes to Intel's Day Martinez I'm ready to go and you get the feeling that this could be something that could fire or at the players I asked David about that before the game yesterday about you know whether or not the players might rally around this any mentioned that time when Max fouled the ball off he was on face broke his nose and the next day Texan picture instead I'm good to go and he started that day with the black is Dave said that got the players fired up I gotta believe tonight there'll be so much adrenaline Max on the mound especially because I mean from that press conference buster and and for those of us that know him he was devastated Leanne devastated on Sunday that he could not help his team and I felt like it worked in the reverse like he could not hide the emotion of how much he felt like he was leading his team down and because of that and not because that's the sole reason they lost by any means at all but I felt like the team reacted to his devastation and not just him not pitching the overall vibe that he was giving like I feel awful that I can't pitch in game that I'm supposed to I think it works in the reverse for game seven because he is battled on everything he can the cortisone shot I think my only concern was shirt tonight is we've seen in his starts in this postseason him go one hundred ten and plus pitches how much length can't he give this team now the good thing is you know Daniel Hudson Sean deal those two pitchers you can use anybody pretty much out of the bullpen and there is more options for Dave Martinez out of the bullpen but what we've seen is they need length from these starters how much length can shares her bring your stuff was just flat from the get-go the guys more pitches than anybody in baseball this year over four thousand he just he just didn't have it and I think it was because he he's tired at the end of a long year and right that's the question about Max tonight on the other side we're GonNa see Zach ranking who's also looked tiredness postseason and I would assume that he's he followed by Garrett Cole I talked to Garyk before game six and asked him about how his ability with game seven was something he was handling because of the flight on the day last turn it had a similar situation where normally I would pen on day two but since we were flying I decided to it settled in DC and throw my pen on day three which for this week sets up pretty much the same exact way and I felt really good last week on day three so I'm just taking the same routine did last week to prepare for the bullpen as I'm doing this week to prepare for possibly having to pitch game seven yes I think he's GonNa wind up pitching like innings four through six tonight what do you think yeah I think so I think this is something that you definitely see and I think just for the royalva nats I mean to be able to get to that grinky you know the point that they want to be able to do they're going to have to do it early and once they do that knowing what is looming in the bullpen and that's one thing opposite of the nationals is the astros have so many guys that they can go to and Garrett Cole who has been the ultimate throw down the hammer are you know for the scene the one point I have to make with Garrett Cole and I know we've seen it so much but the last time he has pitched in relief you go back to his freshman year at us Cla I went and looked at this against the ant eaters gave up a winning run I mean this is like I know it's liked onion cheek like it's been how long since he was a little frothy with the Bruins this is something that I do think fans that now we've seen it time and time again from Randy Johnson no Madison Bumgarner these star pitchers come out of the bullpen it's not as easy is it looks folks he's talking about it being similar to bullpen game he's never done it really he's never done it as a professional he's never done it with the Astros this is something that I think you definitely look for especially early on if he's coming in mid inning what what is he doing where's his heart rate because it's definitely different than than coming in just as the starter all right let's dig into game six last night we'll start with this golf clap or Stephen Strasburg watching that last night just reminded me of how I felt during the two thousand fourteen postseason watching Madison bumgarner where he seemed so in control where even when there were runners on base pitching backwards coming back and counts by throwing off speed pitches he was just absolutely composed and in the end despite the fact that Max Sherzer got up at one point in the sixth inning there Stephen Strasburg still out on the mound in the ninth inning what a performance the fifth five no yeah this amazing to me again Jose Altuva and I remember in the moment I sent this note to our producer in the moment I was like I don't know what's GonNa Happen in this game but to me this is the stories this isn't even the game like that fifth inning at bat it to Jose Altuve to me was the series why I mean you have a pitcher or a hitter up to bat similar to the Anthony Rendon in the first inning where all you really gotta do is put the bomb play take one of those breaking balls fine whole get to the grass score some runs and respond and felt like to all the guys in that order that's what he does I mean that guy can hit anything and Stephen Strasburg you'll get three pitches he started on what the

"For two through saw three pitches his first at bat fastball fastball slider and struck out swinging breaking ball hit one of the gap in left center field this one's gonna hit the warning track bounce off the walls cinches you score from second Frank Turner stands up at second base first pitch swinging it is given the nationals the lead here in the fifth with a double to the gap I don't think they're all the could you could run that ball down but he got terrible jump on the all this time in the evening the lights of not taking full of fat but it ends up being what it probably should have been anyway because it's what the gap perfectly in left center field nice job of driving that run in and also getting the picture off the field back in the dugout so you get a little rest before he goes back to the mound it's a lot of running for Sanches house lose what a second on Donaldson's error we cruised home of the double by Turner now Adam Eaton at the plate he is one for two with a double eight chapters one off the plate to the left side this is lots of backs up and has still playing fields it that holds it the nationals have runners at first and third this will be fun because you know out of people be looking for an opportunity to steal second base here and go ahead and front row down there with three Turner's third if the run down to the floor do you need to run with one out Rendell batting you do not need to run but when you've got that kind of speed that can impact gently wanted to be in the Braves handed your mind that something could be happening here anything that might distract a pitcher may cause him to throw with more velocity fastballs instead of off speed stuff first pitch we ran into the hands of Mrs strike zone wanna know.

"Service. Rita's was your development of that recipe. What was your memory of this is this is Rita? Stay. We're told. Meet and everything and one day sale of I used to love us beat Serena and Judy look a minute while you're talking about so had to explain all the stuff of this bit. Serena and everything we do know why is called Serena nobody knows and now really young people. They don't even know. But if you go something's coming up, and so that's was your mother on do for you. When. Your child, and he really didn't want to eat meat and social oh make with Serena. What what kind of beef dues? This is New York strip. So it's it's literally it's a New York strip. That's hand chopped and the fat the big round of fat on it chop it. And I put it back in the steak, and then you Sierra it species, we used a flat a flat top we sit on a flat top, and it has to stay very rare inside both sides, get nice, and even and then nice rare inside, and then olive oil nice crust of salt and pepper. So it's like steaks tar in the middle and garlic on cloak sorry. Comb fee, and some Chris fried Rosemary God, you know? But this is the the menu is Rita Sodhi and her childhood and the dishes. I when I was there with her partly Sam. Them some joy, my favorite the fried rabbit with the fried bread love that and my favorite is that they green salad. Can we talk green salad because we were literally in the office on of a team that is in often referenced dish like, you know, like the green salad at vehic Rhoda. Because if you're dining there, you see it going by what is that towering? It's like a salad green beehive hairdo. That's just like how can it be that much greens on one plate? And so it's like a excess of a Greenidge where where did that dish come from? And what was the philosophy behind that one? Jodi de well, you know, the quest for the ultimate green salad. I mean, the Spitzer is like for me, the ultimate Trump stake. So I mean vehicle we want it we eat there once a day twice a day. And we have customers who eat there two or three times a week. And that's the kind of menu. We are striving for that you had the freedom that you could pick and choose right. There's no sides. There's no concern you can have vegetables. You do what you want? It's a fun or recipe fund menu to order from because it is very mixed and matching a bunch of sort of vegetables is, but all the side all the little Contorno aren't vegetable only the beans with the sausage in their. Maybe you want to get a little mozzarell- and shoot or maybe wanna pasta you can sort of design your own meal. He'll not appetiser entree dessert because haven't you ever been to a restaurant when you read the menu, and all you wanna do is eat their sides in you don't wanna go through that that Telepia is that what it's called. To Lafia or that, you know, hanger steak and just give me all your side. So my love hate relationship with restaurants, but back to the green salad the most perfect green salad. There could be, you know, channeling a little bit of Alice waters, and that's it and the vinaigrette. Simply bats it. What greens one they have to be green? So there's no ridichio. And you gotta get what you gotta get. What you get, you know? All right now, there's beautiful watercress. We had on dive. And we'll go through you know, a lot of Bibb lettuce. Little Jim lettuce. That's like that's gotta be the heart. You know? Can't you know, we're crazy about cleaning? Limousine. Oh, so you get you know, so we have our we ever mix and sent that changes now, and then we ever vinaigrette. It's a shallot time vinaigrette with aid Sherry vinegar. But there's you know, we handle we both read I in our palate, we handle acid in a very unique way..

"If you're chef whose idea was the making scrambled eggs with the Espresso steamed milk wand. I think I figured that one out. How'd you where did that come from? Because when I opened move. I it was this idea bar with food and having worked in Italy. I I was there like six years. I saw a lot of bars in Venice Cicchetti. Even mom and pop up your sleeve and doing it. Right. You're poor you're wine. So I was inspired. And I knew that system, and I knew restaurant system. So when I was behind the bar I needed to make a menu, and I'm chef I wanna make you know, oxtail ragout, but I don't have the equipment. So I make it on my little stove put it on a piece of toast and steam steam soups, I could steam eggs, but can I use? What can I steam their penny press? What can I put in the penny press? What can you put it in a waffle iron? So I was using all this table top equipment, whatever I had to put him in you together. And with the the vision of making something to go with a glass of wine making something to go with a Cup of coffee and capture that function in European. Feel that I really dug you know, living in Europe Rio. What do you like MO what do you enjoy most about when you go to vet? And what drives you crazy? Enjoy more or less everything. Like, you know, enjoy the food, and you're the way I think genius in the way she ran over and how she put everything together. And I think it's it's it's incredible. And is functional. It's is is no heavy like big kitchen. It's light. And is fantastic drive. Me crazy squeezing every time. You know, like a squeeze in. It's it's grimy little bit crazy say excuse me. You're always kinda squeezing by someone or bumping into subway. The key is to go there with somebody want to squeeze in two. But normally I go by myself. You're never with me when I'm working, right? And if I'm with you, I'm looking I always like, you know, if we go together, we she leave me there. She goes someone else's. All right. So you decide in. Vehic road open to us in fourteen. Think two thousand fourteen. Talker. So maybe Harris in in you went over and signed the lease. So but hope enough to two years hasn't fourteen. Yeah. No because it's five years since two thousand nineteen right now. Oh, yeah. Okay. To do those footing. Okay. Yeah. You decide open a restaurant together. You obviously have a lot of similarities and a lot of shared passions. But you also have differences in terms of how you run a restaurant how you build out a restaurant. How did you get on the same page in terms of opening a place together in terms of being orderly in minimal and spare lakey Sodhi or more bustling in tight in a lot of cheese and stuff like that. Well, I think you know, and you should answer. This. We knew that the restaurant. We would do together would be no mosh to read assume the cutout vehicle out is a street named after an architect. Translate carrot street. If Jodi was leaving with me in Kerala initially that will be how looks like now in grocery. So about there's a pretty clear like that's like the mission. Bilby both agree on. A lot of most things we do we want to create a place and a menu that were missing. And that we want to create an experience that we're missing. And so we were missing, you know, the was a beautiful place probably three times as big as either of the other restaurants in terms of seats three times two times, two and a half. Two two we jumped at it. We're very the challenge. We are really excited about the challenge to let's do it. And we knew what the sort of the idea the vision was and we knew that what I mean, you drive up to her place on via her place sounds like an apartment it's like villa on via KOTA pheasants fly over the road over your car. Every time rabbits run alongside the road. All if trees lemon bushes or trees, and you know, hedges, and it's gorgeous a friend toil on the property. So it was a magic place to how do you have you?.

"So I run out there to see what happened, and I can't do this anymore. I don't wanna do this. And do this come down. Come down. We go to my -partment is round the corner and sit down what's up up? And I'm looking I have this white couch. She sitting on the white couch, and I'm looking in icy like little lines of dark it looks like chocolate on her ankles on the back of her neck. And I look at the couch, and it's got this outline in chocolate Rita Sodhi. She fell down the stairs import chocolate cake over it. So you have to go through all these trial and error is you know, you cut yourself. You get stitches, you know, you have nights where no one's there dinner. You have nights where people are lined up for dinner, and you find your way through it. And if you love if you love it, she loves it. She says it and gets better. And better at it. I'm really proud of her and the first day I ate there. I saw it all and it was it was exquisite before we have to grow guys open jointly. So you had that. Read ahead. He Sodhi I find those restaurants. There are similarities in terms of the type of food maybe in sort of. I know that word simple is overused. But I find those restaurants so different in other ways. Like, I go to east Sodhi. I I think a lot of Neo 'cause I always try explain I'm like, oh, it's like an talion talion restaurant. You know, it's not a talion American like the kind of the restaurant that you would get in Italy. How do you explain it to people to Americans eight restaurant date under racer these Etonian restaurant? It's he's just Italian. And there is no American talian. It's just turn surely is tossed restaurant. It's very precise. You go in there from the waiters, but the men and women have their nice blue Oxford shirts with the button down collars and striped ties tucked into the shirt, and they've got the white aprons. It's seems like I always feel like I need to behave with him in there. Like, there's a certain order to to thirty that there is not too because you're you're having dinner in my dining room. To come in my house. I were able to talk to loud and readers tell KOMO Morice meat or something. Maybe. Very loud. I will come and say something anyway from there. It might be Jodi, no, you've you've got it. I even feel that way. What you know? I love going in there in the afternoon when you know, it's only open for dinner, but the whole whole restaurant will smell like Raghu, or whatever she's made to Carney or and it's really peaceful, and if they make everything that day for that night. And that's how it was when I worked in Italy. So, but I think this is her personality we have so many similarities, but we're completely different character different personalities. Oh, my God is right. Sometimes they'll be more different than. So and and I am I would say that I probably spent more money at your three restaurants in any restaurant group in New York City. I imagine. Years, but so with boo vet like boob it on the other hand. Whereas there is a an orderly, but stylish character that he Sodhi boo. Vets rights is a much more wims ical. There's almost a set design quality to like every single little detail layer is it feels like it's been sourced and gotten at this vintage place in there. It felt like the midday day it opened it had been there for forty years. Well, let you know. I think that's because it's it's vet small and a lot goes on in there. Right. It's it's not a restaurant. It's it's a bar with food. You know, and that was. But it's very it's is relatively spare compared. Well, and yeah, it's very sparse. It's very minimalist. And I think that the, you know, that's the readers personality aesthetic, but a lot goes on at at make vet soap in like eighteen hours a day from seven AM to two AM..

"Do I have to figure it out eight years ago eight years ago, and then you have this child together via Kuroda, which we'll get to admit it. But I you met Rita at e Sodhi 'cause you're curious about the restaurant you had dinner there. But did you did you even know who this person was or? Did you? Let's be honest. You go there because you wanted to beat her or just go there for dinner. Well, there were one group of my friends were saying you've got to meet this person. Have you met this person? And I'm this is going on for months. Unlike yes, no, I yeah. I will what you know. Whatever it's so and then from another. Because there was a hot chef over there cooking, and I should go. Check it out. But you should meet her profession or you should meet our, oh, you would like her at like one group of friends like you should go over there and see in meet this. Right now. And then from a another group of friends, and, you know, call ex you should go eat there. This is really good, and I didn't put them together. And you know, so I'm not really paying attention to people. Tell me go me. And then the, but I was curious to go find this restaurant and find time to go by and I walked by it'd be closed or because this she was thinking, and it was called ping hair. No, I didn't think. On trail. Yeah. Why would she think that I don't know? Maybe you do know maybe read. Read read is funny. We cook very similar. We cook the same a lot of the same dishes. We do that very traditional kind of you know, rar choke salad with parmesan. So when I do it. It's a choke salad with parmesan. And just and then she does it and I'm so so we're both doing the same thing. So in that way, was I very curious to so I finally got the soda and I sat down there. This was before vet open. This is before. Morandi? I was at Moran Morandi. So you were doing would also turf. I'm this. I tell you. Joanie and all these other places. This this is what I do. Who's this read up person coming in here? Naked raw, artichokes, alad like me. Yeah. Like you. But beautiful menu nine things on it s- quiz it restaurant. And it's like, wow. This was great. And and always by yourself to bring a friend. I think I don't remember, you know, I came with friends, and then I said, I got this. We'll see you guys later. I made sure my friends comes at dinner with many more can meet Rita. Rita Rita when you met. Jodi, were you like who's this Jodi person like, oh, that's the Jody? I've been hearing about. Eating in my restaurants, too. I didn't know I didn't know her. I didn't know anything, you know. I don't know the chef. And at that time, I knew very little about restaurant, New York and everything just, you know, I've just arrived just open this place, and was you know, trying to figure out how to run this place. So that's what I'm trying to figure out because Jodi here had been kind of a fixture of sort in the Italian restaurants in New York City, especially downtown these places, George Morandi, Gustavo Giusto Cousteau think. Yeah. I was paying my rent. You show from Italy. I I don't mean this in a demeaning way. But you weren't even chef someone who worked in like passion for awhile you grew up in Tuscany. You can come to New York City in open a restaurant. So it was that first year like when you opened what do you think the restaurant was good? It was hard. But I didn't give up. What do you think was why do you think it succeeded? Jody. One because she is a natural talent cooking. I mean, really self trained coming with all the culture in you know, growing up there. She's very good at the job cooking and learning. She knows what she wants to do. And she knows she knows ingredients. She knows it. So and she never she never gave up. You know? There are moments where she wanted to you know, one day it vet she was outside on the sidewalk and Jody rita's really upset because he would. Okay..

That's right, by the way, feel free as through. So guys we are actually recording right now. So you you are you guys are partners both business wise and in relationship. So you're at home doing this or you at the not all of the rest of your home. All right. So you guys have three restaurants in New York. You about to open the fourth right? He said, you know, by PISA, Lena, Barbies Lino via Kuroda, you can literally throw a dinner roll and probably hit Bouvet. And then you have e- Sodhi, which is two minutes away on bleaker Sherie. Enough depends how fast and then you live five minutes from there. Yes. We live to two blocks away from all the restaurants. Okay. So. Doesn't this drive? You insane. Like, the guys you live together you worked together. The restaurants are basically on top of each other your houses right next to that. But that would drive me crazy. But you guys seem pretty chiller redundancy, you, yeah. Yeah. I think we miss Joe the villain. See every five minutes. Well, Jody you're supposed to say I would read that. Dot dot. That's that's very sweet. I mean, it's a really unique situation one. We're married. We're both shafts. We work together and live together and building restaurants building doing this life. So it goes it goes for the most part really well. But when you need your space when you need some Jody time, what do you do? Oh, well, I'm I, you know, I'm usually traveling to move perish or jokey o or working there. I mean in Rita has a sodium. She line cooks there. So we're both go our way do our things and then. So even though you do business together, you're you will probably day-to-day or spending a lot of your days not together kind of working is that correct? What do you think Rita? We we we we plan the morning we plan the calendar we work through things right now. We're in construction on new project. So a lot of details will be working out together. And then we're sort of like, okay, there's emergency. She goes that way. I'll go handle that one regroup pretty much in contact and working on things. But I don't cook Eddie Sodhi, that's rita's world. So there are moments when we're also working apart, but supportive, you know, there's been emergencies where she's handled everything and I've been away or ours. I wanna get started. "Correction tuneup he always thought okay if you're a guy that's not a whole run hitter but you can't hit some home runs okay great but you build a lot of confidence off of your batting average and getting on base so picking your spots as to saying hey you know what i'm going to take these base hits now because i can get them outside again three and they'll come another opportunity later in the game where there's not going to be this shift and i'm going to have to really get after it maybe that's where i hit the ball you know in the gaffer over the fence your home run guy don't care about the shift you're trying to get the ball in the air hit it out but i i like what gregorious did there we know he does both he hits home runs he could also get base hits especially this ballpark at all i mean that porch and right is is extremely tempting three pitch coming from tehran he's now set looks runner at second base not of the plate here cups that's a strike three in one look how deep swanson is at short he is in the outfield technically right on the edge he's gonna be quick if it gets to him there torres runs well yesterday baseline so yeah you may be kept the ball in play that you could handle but you also gotta have to be quick with cornermen are halfway and the second baseman albee's is about five feet in from the pitch and that's strike it's bad he takes his time chad fairchild well we've been watching the batter's to call these bitches on their own in the honor sti or honor system and that time the labor didn't get it right three to pitch coming with the man at second no score in the bottom of the second here's tehran's hurl swing and miss bolden speed a little different eighty three miles an hour on that one tehran has four strikeouts greg bird comes to the plate now one ninety eight hitter with five homers and eight rbi lefthanded batch who is spoken of here and not to disparage him but spoken of here as as the equivalent in terms of power to judge or at least two torres and has not really produced it hasn't stayed healthy on the major league club there's tehran's first pitch runner leading from seconds way outside for ball yeah not can be the frustrating part for the yankees because knowing what they have in in a healthy bird i think it's more help than anything else hill the performance is going to be there once he can really consistent at bats and we saw some flashes last year in the postseason is well what you're saying man you get this guy for full season the way outside too but it goes hand in hand keep like a guy's got an injury or he's been dealing with something and not as comfortable in terms of the amount of wraps and feeling like you're in the flow you need some success to get going and maybe can overcome some of those feelings of the injury or your lack of reps tehran's to oh swung on and prowled down the first baseline so much feel and rhythm and timing and all those things but i i do think this i think that the yankees is great it as it is to have burt right now you want the production to to get to where his potential is but you also always have to be ready with a backup because of what we've seen over the last couple of years you don't know i mean he could go off and be great for the next two months and if you hit your wagon all of a sudden and injury crops up and you got a big hole to one is foul back to the screen and we're two and to now jury just came back up from triple a and they used him at first base the other day neil walker has played a lot of i there are other options and he still hitting alone two hundred so hot streak isn't the problem at this point it's the lack of hot streak right and i think with him you know having some time on the disabled list this year they're being a little more patient try to make sure that they put them in spots where he's got an opportunity to to break out and get going.

"The radio welcome to chase field in phoenix where the giants and the arizona diamondbacks open three game series it's the middle of the season the jazz played the first game of the second half yesterday and for the tonight will be the first game of their second half and they are the first place team in the national league west i'm john lennon with today's botchy and skipper the giants and so these these are big games janssen third place and going head to head with arizona where they can do some damage but they're facing a pitcher tonight patrick corbin who's been among the best in the league this year so boats you first off constructing your lineup for a guy like patrick corbin how'd you go about it well we we tweaked it a little bit i mean we've had hard time with core and you know one guy that's not in there tonight who has had some struggles against he's three for fifteen but he's having a tough time on certain pitch hair so we're giving him a break and that's gorky so jackson needs a start so he's going to get to start on this road trip tonight and then i'll run gorky arrested away now data that i'm giving joe panic a day hannie will play second base pablo's in there and let feel is slater so you know we just tweaked a little bit we're trying to find the right lineup against some of these lefties and you know he's shown a little bit the loss of longoria you know being a big ryan a bad the help stretch out the line we are missing that a little bit and pablo as a write head about it i mean his overall numbers have not been good what's your assessment of how he's doing now that he's getting more regular at batch batting right handed well i know they're not great but i think the swings have been better and gotta hit yesterday you know hit the whole there at second base hit a home run not too long ago right handed so i think he's getting better swings now when you look at the options we have joe who who i think is one for twelve offer corbin now this allows you to give jillette a day in my hopefully run him out to rest of the way not wear him down when you have a guy that has had some struggles against a certain pitcher and then yeah pablo right handed well neo did gives you a chance to get joa break on top of a pablo some more about try ended so facing corbin and what makes him so tough because this guy has put up some huge numbers this year well i think more than anything he's using a breaking ball more needs separated the to break in basel a bit more i am under curve ball in the slider it was kind of a slur type pitch and that was what he threw along with a change fast ball so he was morbid three pitch guy then now he's more of a four pitch guy with the harder breaking ball he tries it back foot to right handed hitters with it were he'll throw too slow and break us slower breaking ball and then he of course he uses his fastball both sides and the change up all right show the giants up against corbin the first place de backs and andy suarez the rookie left hander gets a call for the giants we'll talk about that when today's boji continues really want to speed up the.

"Just doesn't know baseball but you can't sit there and say wow this is no big deal though they're going to win the division by ten games everything's a big deal when you're fighting for a division what do you what do you know about this kid that the cubs are gonna start today i know it's gonna slow kinda rise from the minor leagues series drafted in two thousand twelve i don't think he was anywhere near ready even as recent as the late last year and maybe even earlier this year i think he's taking some leaps and bounds i i saw at the hotel today so i'm in the stands before the game he had his ear buds on it looks like he's one of these guys it's just you know kind of getting focused but but in that you don't want the moment to get too big and one thing i heard about them in the last twenty four hours is that's where he's improved that he's not being rattled as much and the numbers are good if other than the year ray which is obviously the most important is three to one strikeouttowalk fastball curveball changeup basically three pitch pitcher you know it's one of those deals that they get five anywhere near solid out of him i think it's success but i think he is they believe he can handle a debut at dodger stadium where a few months ago or last year he could not let's see how that plays i'll keep that in mind hunter were junior is going to be wearing number seventy four he's going to be here very long well we'll see more permanent number we'll see i mean it'd be interesting he makes his debut here darvish is in class who's gonna have the better start garbage says he's already pitching so hopefully it goes well for him but yeah i mean huge moment for this kid i mean if pitches well he'll go back down but he'll be in the back of the cubs minds meaning as soon as they need another spot start he'll get a chance so this is the beginning of something because they don't have anybody ready nobody so the first person that proves himself as that six or seven guy is going to get that chance again and again and again and so it is a big start in that respect he won't stay in the rotation but he might come back you know in the near future the same or a little bit different for madden against the dodgers tonight no i mean it's similar in the sense of kris bryant is out so in half will play third for the second consecutive day in a pretty good day defensively they're yesterday and got on base a couple of times most of your normal guys are in there without more catch in center imagine catcher chris jiminez will catch tweet underwood because he caught him a bunch of times down in the minor so he knows them best they texted and talk last night and i think that'll be an easy transition since jiminez spent a lot of time in the minors but other than that you have you know your usual candidates in there with al leading off well jesse this is supposed to be the soft part of the schedule but then again it's baseball what is the soft part of anybody's schedule as somebody teams have underachieved here so you got the dodgers here for four right into the minnesota series so how do you see the cubs bouncing back against the dodgers team is trying to find themselves after a lot of injuries i it's really hard to know it really is i mean i think they'll play better i think the dodgers and this crowd we'll bring out a little bit better in them if they could come up with some sort of split i i.

"Hitting and tonight they didn't have enough to get by what was a how should we call it a choppy start by sunny greg and juan soto with two home runs of course one off of gray and one off of chason shreve in the seventh gave the nationals the the lead and that best bullpen in baseball that'd be the yankees bullpen it was the first one that was given up by the yankees pan in over twenty two innings twenty two and two thirds innings to be exact so and and as i said before gray wasn't bad it wasn't great either he certainly was not as good as he was the previous two starts and he had a very difficult i would he throw in that i think about thirty to thirty three pitches thirty four pitches he threw in that first inning and so the nationals win this one and they get a split of the two games in and there you go that's that's the yankees the red sox won last night and so it's it's really odd you look at the standings in the american league east and you got the yankees in second place but they've got a higher winning percentage than than the red sox which is as i say an oddity their winning percentage is better than the red sox yet the red sox if you look at the standings right now are up a game in the american league east and so the yankees split the two games with the nationals and onward and upward we go if you're the akis the anticipation remains high the optimism remains very high and house spoke how spoke hal steinbrenner spoke and well i mean there's really nothing that hal steinbrenner said that really could be termed surprising or revealing you know he talked about the yankees needing more pitching starting pitching is a concern all the time and i guess the reporters caught up to the yankees owner and you know the the owner saddam of meeting in manhattan yesterday and hal steinbrenner said you can't have enough pitching and of course we've got montgomery out for the season and got the rookie and the mingo herrmann and i think we've got a need there and we've got money we've got flood dino payroll flexibility and we save some money because we knew going into the.

"Unlikely so my question is there has to be at least someone that is thrown no more than three pitches in an inning who are they and in your opinion is that more impressive than the immaculate inning it has to be more rare than an immaculate inning rate answer no at least not throughout baseball history so there's a page at baseball almanac where they have entries for every three pitch inning in mitchell history obviously incomplete we don't have the state going back all the way but there are on record one hundred three three pitch innings in major league history and they're now after mixtures second domecq hitting there are now ninety one immaculate innings so one zero three three pitch innings ninety one immaculate innings so in terms of rarity the three pitch inning is actually more common than the immaculate ending although in today's game the immaculate inning is obviously becoming much more common what with the lack of contact and the three pitching is i think becoming less common probably just because hitters taking more pitches more pitches per appearance so today probably the immaculate inning is less rare but when you're judging impressiveness i think there's probably more that goes into that like immaculate inning probably tells you more about a pitcher or more of a a repeatable skill being demonstrated than the three pitching which is sort of a fluke and relies on the better not being patient i am trying to find any sort of to pitch inning but let's see uchibori taty i'm looking at an old jayson stark column from espn yeah so in two thousand twelve yoshinori tatyana had one inning and two pitches thrown the came in got jose molina doubleplay so that hardly counts and then then a granite so the trouble with trying to search these things with the play index when you're looking for really short appearances is that ordinarily if a pitcher gets through in inning on.
