"Carcass that's Mack Weldon dot com slash car cast promo code carcass for 20% off its Mack Weldon, get it right, this holiday season. All right, so thank you. Did you see this news about Jim Farley? And it's co driver. Billy Johnson, I think Billy. I met Billy's really, really nice. Obviously very fast. They competed in the classic 12 hours of Sebring. And they ran Jim's car. Farley has a Lola. He two 98. And they won. They won their class. I guess, I don't know if it was overall. I don't know how it all works over there. But Farley hitting the track again, running that car. Yeah, like to see that. We'll see the car, bring up a photo of that. Well, I sent a photo there was some social media photos that they weren't the best quality. But I think it's green. I don't know the full specs on the Lola, but Chris can look it up. Probably a single center Cedar. Yeah. What kind of 78 Cosworth thing looking? Yeah, so we'll put up the pictures in a sec. So he raced it in road Atlanta, Grand Prix, and they called it a Lola T two 9 8 prototype. One powered by two liter Ford Cosworth engine, rather than using the BDA engine reported, it's likely he used the more powerful BDG and naturally aspirated four banger making 275 horsepower. Weighs out featherweight 1345 pounds with a power to weight ratio of around 350 horsepower per ton. Nice. Yeah, it's a nice, it's a nice piece. It's a quick car. God bless them. Yeah, see, that's a cool car. Yeah. The mirrors are so goofy. You gotta do the mirrors. And then they got to hang up on like a toothpick. And then you got to tie a string, so it doesn't fly off the toothpick. It's a kind of a weird setup, but yeah, that's a cool, that's a cool car. I bet it sounds crazy. Yeah. No livery on it as far as I can as far as I can tell. So they went full 12 hours, huh? Yeah. Yeah. Cool. God bless you. I want it. That's a nice day. We love Jim Farley, man. Speaking of Ford's, no Broncos. Up to something. You know, the Ford Bronco has been plagued with a lot of delays, like a lot of the car companies. It was the chip issue. But the Broncos that were being delivered with the hardtop, they found a bit of an issue with it leaking water under heavy rains or like you're washing it or something. They got on it right away and worked on the fix for it. And now they're happy to say all of the Broncos that have been sitting in their parking lot at Ford that were built that needed hard tops now have new hardtops. They're going to start delivering those. I'm starting to see them on the road. I'm not seeing a Bronco every day. I'm seeing two Broncos a week. You know, just around town, the full size new Bronco, seeing a couple four doors. The occasional two doors is more four doors out there. I've seen this cool kind of gray, like this putty gray. I did see it with the soft top. I didn't see it with the hard top yet. So there's definitely been delays there. But people are loving it and they're raving about it and having some fun is just kind of just the right mix of utility and retro style and something kind of new. The Bronco has the 2.7 liter 330 horsepower EcoBoost V 6 in it. So it's got some power to it. But there are already working on a raptor version. Bronco raptor. And there was a video that came out Bronco nation on YouTube put out the video. And it's just looks like a really nice two, three minute video of this thing just driving in the dirt and kind of doing donuts. It's still kind of had like the camouflage wrap on it but not too much. And the raptor lineup has done so well. The F one 50s done so well for Ford. This thing looks pretty cool. It looks like it's going to have the off road capability. So we have three 30 horsepower engine now. There's a 400 horsepower three liter V 6 in the Ford explorer ST. Yeah. And that would be perfect for this, right? The base having the three 30. If you can get it, there's a smaller engine too. You can get with a manual transmission, but the three 30 horsepower, 2.7 liter. If you could put the three liter in with the 400 horsepower and engine that's already out there, then you get this nice line up of three 30 horsepower Bronco, 400 horsepower Bronco, and then F one 50 and then you have F one 50 raptor with four 50 horsepower and then raptor R, which comes out in a year or so with like 7 80 horsepower. So now you've got this gambit of fun off road stuff. And that's before you even touch like ranger or yeah, imagine if you have a three liter twin turbo that's what not 400 horsepower, you could flash that thing up. Oh yeah. I mean, whenever you have the turbos, you have the ability to wring out more horsepower pretty easily. I think for sure there's an easy four 50 horsepower in there with a tune and probably have nice canon filter. Granted it probably on 93 octave. Maybe you're about four 35 on the 91 stuff we got out here. But yeah, for sure, it's easy to do. Nissan unveiled the GT 500. The Nissan Z GT 500. So there's the GT racing class. I think in Japan it's the GT class. And the GTR, the street car, that car isn't quite done yet. We've still got another, I think, year. Maybe two. Before they bring back the GTR. Well, the GTR hasn't ended yet. We still have the GTR. But for next year, this coming season, they're not going to race it. They've already swapped that out. For the new Z but this is the photo you're looking at, this is the new Z GT 500. It's a GT 500 spec. It will race against Acura NSX and Toyota Supra. But in racing trim, the spec engines for these cars is a two liter four cylinder turbo that makes about 606 50 horsepower. I'm surprised I have a four cylinder. Yeah, they got a four cylinder. It's just the fact that they run it and I think it's they must, that must be a rules situation. That's a real situation. So they can't run a turbo with three liters or whatever it is. I mean, there's some rules. Some things. Interesting because the streetcar comes with it's a three liter 400 horsepower twin turbo V 6. But in race term yet, two liter four cylinder single turbo. Paddle shifted 6 speed is the spec 6 50 horsepower. Wow, that looks like a fun car to drive. But this is going to be a big influence over to the aftermarket, right? When you see the wide body and the wings and stuff, everything that it seems next year for the Z this is going to put a lot of influence on that thing. It's kind of a cool looking.

"I wanna give influence steve nash. Playing seven guys. You know guys who really helped him in this run mike james. Tlc landry shamet played. Seven minutes like didn't get any burn. I can blame him a little bit for that. But and i'm going to give him a little bit of a pass because of the hamstring and it was a stray. Now he said after the game was a strength grade to strain so is worse than we thought. So i'm gonna give hard and a little bit of a pass. But he was for twelve from three if he just hits one more one or two more threes then. They win the game. It doesn't even get to overtime. And i again. I understand the hamstring. But when i look at history i gotta factor that in a little bit in his last eight games. His record is one in seven. He is shot. Eighteen for seventy six from three. This is one of the best shooters of the generation. A he is twenty four percent from three in those eight elimination games yesterday. He was two of thirteen open or wide open. Shots s four feet or more between you and the defender sue for thirteen and then he can only joe harris. He was three for eight on the same type of shots so there are two of their best shooters. Just go and i'll throw this in. At the end of the game kevin durant was going one on one versus five or one vs three and james harden was. he didn't even have forget. I get it your heart. You can be. As though he didn't have the swag he didn't have the poise he didn't have the the general floor. Generalship of a star let alone a superstar. He was just less. Give pass half court. I'm handing into k. d. or waiver katie to make some great movie. Give free and go stand and watch. I get it. You're not yourself but just give me the boys the leadership of the star that you are that you did in the first three quarters and that was absent and because drew holiday a chris middleton who were horrific in the first half and holiday through like the first three and a half quarters bay stepped up a gave john some help in the end. And that's why they prevail. Nobody was elba katie. This wasn't even luca or lebron. Bring it up one one. This was in half court handed into k. d. and we got to watch and you just make magic. That's what it was. I can't put this on k. d. one iota from br lopez did have nineteen seven eleven through and while it you said it was no. This is what i knew. You were trouble skill. You look at the half. Oh dan holiday and middleton was four of twenty two and you only got a six point lead and you talk about holiday. Didn't play well holiday shop. Thirty six percent for the series holiday. Didn't play well at all and if you look at middle number middleton average thirty one point game at home he averaged about nineteen on the road so this game was prime said now. The only thing goes as chris. I wanna assess the same lebanon. Blame the same little criticism. That's what would says really. Are the superstar in this situation. Wait are you talking about lagaan. W just need to know strike out will ask the of because you dame today he would do it today. All i'm saying is is. They're lebron. James was never allowed to get tired right chris. Kobe and mike never got a petit. You see what happened when they as kevin durant to do what they've asked. Lebron james the do for the entirety of his career in the playoffs. Chris which is gore rebounds fifth bloating. He'll start gain onto the he. Do i try to deny that virtuoso. Get mccrea's we needed again that chris. When you didn't mention the best player on the planet headed to only lebron james the puerta got a two old lead. What if say what. Autumn abroad haters sayin. What about a two one lead in two thousand fifteen with game. Four and your house. What it oh hello. He had he had a to only limits. You there i want. Man gave coming back to without you beside. He had a three one lead. Id to all the fluid. This is not a super team. I know you're trying to make that point that the brooklyn nets or brook milwaukee book not not superstar on five times to mvp defensive player of the year. But that's not a super team. Jay ram is right because what you do j. j. ram evasion lou. The right because what you do when you try to minimize lebron you say the east is weak when you want to maximize kevin durant you. Say the east powerful. All that a lot of injury he wouldn't have had any better. He had an opportunity go to the nba finals and all they had to do to get through the atlanta hawks. He not going to be the way. Maybe he's with lagaan gonna take a vacation. We hold on that boat for another ten days. Somebody's going to be joining us to you. Woody will maestro. Okay mr ramsey. As in jalen ramsey small bones to pick with you lebron cakewalk through the east back in the days of what this man called the baby. Dinosaurs member owed george. Paul was the solo star of indiana and he kept running up against lebron and d. Wade and chris bosh those days. Yeah i remember those days. Never lebron was up because he at the shot heard around the world on the orlando magic in two thousand nine. Remember that game and what happened after that. I can't remember but they were gone. Lagaan and six games and how about his final game. As i go around in boston and actually his final three games. It was twenty ten. His owner jalen ramsey accused him of quitting in games. Four five and six against the celtics in twenty ten. Look it up. So i don't know he used to just run through what clay being it saying you need on. What would you say by katie. What would he say about. Katie you put troops or meeting at the what happened at three one. Chris you think he would say at the three liter you go during the team. That came back. A kevin was right. Never win a championship with russell. Westbrook as his primary decision and then kevin win because they begged him to come and save them in golden state they fade to a really all he did was takeover games three back to back years in one files. Mvp in both those years to prove then once and for all best player on the plane. An opportunity to do it right there. What about this year in game. Seven that i washed my own two eyes on saturday night. It was absolutely clear as day at nighttime that he's the best player on the planet ain't even close anymore. Four i'm sorry. What happened to lebron game. Three or four. Milwaukee is really good one of the top three ts basketball. In who is kevin durant nemesis defender. It's the guy who went to his school. Pj tucker and went to the university of texas ahead of kevin durant. He plays his tail off against kevin. And i thought he thought his guts out on saturday night and all kevin did was in the first forty eight minutes. Go for forty eight points against. Pj tucker and all he did was go as chris pointed out and i tried to explain to this man to open this show. He went one on five the whole night. James harden was a pathetic shell of himself a cardboard cutout just like three turns into in the state farm commercials. One that you could blow on. He would fall over. I started calling him and logo. Jane's because all he could do is not shoot from the logo. All he did was dribble on the logo dribble dribble dribble. And then hold the ball and look for kevin so we could loop some dangerous pass to him so that kevin could look.

"Turbo z. You can get one of those conditions for like ten. Grand z thirty one three hundred z x. Turbo coupe thunderbirds. Honda s. two thousand. I gotta have asked two thousand in there. We'll cover will cover it a different time. But i love that. You guys did that. I'm jealous that i didn't get to be a part of it But we need. We need to talk about the toyota land cruiser. We do because a new toyota land. Cruiser is here. it's not necessarily here for us. Us as in the folks in the united states by all accounts toyota is killing the land. Cruiser name here. And i say that with a lot of hesitation. I hope you can hear that in my voice because i'm not a thousand percent convinced. I wonder maybe we are not going to get this iteration of the land cruiser. Well you know we'll probably get it as the new lexus. Lx alexis but i would just be shocked that toyota would give up on the land. Cruiser name in the us for reasons that will get into as we go into this conversation but yeah new. Toyota landcruiser just debuted little bit earlier than we expected today in terms of power. It's no longer v eight powered you either. Get a twin turbo. Three point five liter. V six that makes four hundred nine horsepower. Or you get a three point. Three liter twin turbo turbo diesel. That makes three hundred and five horsepower and five hundred sixteen pound feet of torque. It's riding on a new frame Apparently drops like four hundred and sixteen pounds over the old one. you know. it's a little bit later but it's still a big rugged. Suv that you know to put it into perspective. The land cruiser is kind of toyota's suburban in a certain way but a suburban that you could take off road and have no issue ever with it is kinda the best way i could express it. I mean i. I know you can. And i've seen the videos and the videos always just just floor me has how you can do that. With anchors they have a little bit of pixie dust. I think mixed in there to to make the land cruiser. Something that big be able to do the things that it does But i still just. I mean with the lower. The lower side skirts. I mean this is really a i mean. Yes off road capable. But i mean it's it's really become just a straight up tremendously luxurious full size. Suv it but it still body on frame. They have been developing this vehicle literally for decades like the. The fact is is that you know. Non government organizations ngos all around the world. They use toyota land cruisers. To get around. There are lots of armored versions of the toyota land. Cruiser like it is known especially outside of the united states as kind of the rough and tumble suv that you get And for any of our youtube watchers right now we are looking at the new range and the one on the far right is the gre version. Which you can see as a completely different grill lay on the other ones and damage that car. Sexy really good. You look so good with that toyota like it. Maybe they're kinda sorta ripping off ford with that big toyota in the grill but it looked so good. It's just this big boxy beast of an suv. Well mean landcruisers of old. I mean they used to carry some pretty big branding upfront. Like that didn't it. I don't. I've been looking around. They really haven't. I was kind of looking up. Some land rover history today. and i. i'm curious to ask you this. Do you know when the land cruiser was introduced in the united states was it nineteen fifty. No you're close but not quite close. Okay it was. I know it goes back that far far far it was in nineteen so toyota in the us opened in one thousand nine hundred fifty seven in october thirty first so their first full years of sales was in nineteen fifty eight. They sold land her. Wow but they also only sold two hundred and eighty seven other cars. So it's not exactly. It's not like the game. They were new to the game. In nineteen fifty seven nineteen fifty eight and bat model was called. That was the twenty series that the fj twenty if you will in sixty that's when the fj forty which is kind of if you think about an old school landcruiser that's the one existed at my head. Yes so. I only found this out when my grandmother died but my uncle had a f j forty because my aunt she went through a lot of his stuff and was like pulled out pictures and stuff and he had one obviously later than nineteen sixty. I think he was in the mid seventy s or so but you know that was that was for a while for several years. That was toyota's best selling vehicle in the united states. I'm looking actually at the numbers now. The fj forty from nineteen sixty to nineteen sixty. Five was toyota's best selling vehicle. The united states and after that the corona passenger car took over so for five years in the early sixties. If you ask so. What's a toyota. Look like it's an f j forty which you wouldn't think about today 'cause a i've always lived on the east coast. They were very much a west coast car. Like just because of. That's why toyota dealers were. That's where that's where they were kind of dropped off so you know but it was. It was a very different vehicle back then than it is today. Isn't it yes. I mean we're i mean we're we're kind of taking looking. We're taking a look at an older landcruiser here right now. There's there's some i mean. It's not a huge toyota brands but there are some toyota brandon. Going up there in the grill that new gre did. Can you say maybe..

Okay we're with you got it okay. i have a ninety. Three dot caravan And has a real low loud idle. All of a sudden has gotten gradually worse kinda like but but ebitda and whenever i go to step on the gas it'll accelerate very very slowly. Our pamela go really high. And then it'll it'll either lurch forward and slow way down or it will start to accelerate slowly and make a lot lot allowed low banging noises. I need to go faster people. Honk me 'cause. I'm accelerating so slowly so let me get this right while you're sitting at a light without pingyao trying to move the thing you're in and it's going in ring a bell bro. Yeah and then you try to accelerate and it doesn't want to go well the rpm will go up really high and it'll start to accelerate really slowly and then it'll get to where it's ready to shift again and it'll either lurch really hard and then go jerk faster or it'll make a lotta loud banging. Sounds and continue to accelerate slow. Well thank south. Yeah i like it good. I don't like it. I'm gonna lead foot and i can't look at this thing yet. I took it into our transmission guy and he said it's not the transmission. Its engine performance. Exactly my point. I didn't think you could have two things so awfully wrong with it. I've had caravans in the past. And they have their notorious for bad transmissions. I know that but this thing is a v6 yes. He's a v6 is probably a three point. Three liter engine. And i think you're running on five cylinder that would explain the loping at idle and the rough running and it would also explain the lack of power because you only have five six or maybe even less of the you might have just two thirds of the available power but it doesn't explain the low. Wow loya it does. Because it's running on friday. Yes while you're sitting there and drive. The engine is shaped the car is shaking blah blah blah blah. How quickly forget this. Just the way you darren boop boop shaky because either wanna spark plug wise has has fallen off or some such thing. Either you have the transmission guy. I've seen that. The spark plug wire was not attack. No maybe i mean he he first of all you should go back and hug this guy because he could have rebuilt the transmission and then told you buy and then the wire. "This isn't going to be my every day setup but absolutely like it's totally tolerable and and with that magnet and the way i was managing the tube it didn't get in the way in any practical way so versus my normal are carrying capacity which might have been twenty four ounces. I was carrying forty or fifty ounces. The other day on a ride which i'd intended to be out for four hours so that i see the advantages there. Jahmai setup is three liter. Reservoir can be out there properly like in the desert on day and do pretty well. And then i got a little water. Filtration divisive need bees. I can get to a water source and not beyond drinking Brain eating mini amoeba in the like running one point five liter bladder had double and again like i think like everything. It's about having the setup that makes sense for the expedition. You're on right. There's you don't carry three liters of water. If you're hitting italian every four hours right perhaps overkill but i think it is an opportunity for us the nerd out philosophically on how how to set up a bike for this sort of experience and how it's changed with the advent of new lighter gear and bag systems and the like specifically A question i get a lot in from from some of our writers and from friends who are looking to set their bikes out for everything from commuting to some adventure is like racks and pioneer's and racks the old way. And if you think about it like you're adding the weight of the racks to your system and then you have The pierre's are at the extremes of the bike and so not only is it affecting handling because it's far away from the center of mass of the machine but then also You know it's it's sticking out horizontally so it makes it harder to get down tighter trails and you get a lot more sway on the bike. As you're getting out of the saddle you might have remembered this potentially of in your experience. China i definitely did when i toured with that hanging off. The post rack. Dow was terrible. Every time i got out of the saddle. I just felt like the wait was swinging way out way out from side to side and it was pretty awful so much so that i mean you got the feedback immediately. Don't get out of the saddle. Climb yeah you really have to be super smooth and you can't. You can't really ride the bike the way that you normally ride it and so you know what's beautiful about say starting with the frame bag custom frame bag maxing out the volume and designing away where it has the compartments. And so on that you need for what you want to bring and putting all your stuff there and that way like you know you're not you're not introducing anything that's going to stress the frame in a way that is going to induce a lot of torsion load and things like that. Everything's very centralized it just heavier done it. I've had done it from beginning now knowing what i know now. I think you're probably right starting with the full frame bag. And then adding on additional capacity from that he's from a load perspective and a performance perspective the ideal way of going about it. Yeah all the dent stuff in the bottom of that bags that water reservoir being a prime example And then from there. You know if you need more storage. I'm a big fan of like a a medium sized seat bag..

Curtis Saunders and his 1914 Model T

"This is Robert loss of welcome to another episode of cars that matter today we're joined by Dr Curtis Saunders, Mechanical Engineer Researcher at Johns Hopkins University Tower Things in Baltimore today, Curtis agreed Robert. It's a beautiful sunny day here in Curtis is here because he's the owner of a nineteen fourteen Ford model t now I guess I could make all kinds of jokes curtis about how you really need a PhD in mechanical engineering to work on one of these. But I'm sure it doesn't hurt. I we're going to dig into the history of the Ford model teachers to understand a little bit better. Why was such important automobile? The Ford model t is often named the car the century. Obviously, it's an important car. Why is it important to you? I should say while I'm a mechanical engineer I've always loved history. I'm always been a student of history and history has always been a passion of mine. So the model t important to to me. One of the reasons is just the impact it had on American history and just the general in addition just to manufacturing in general the manufacturing methods behind the model. t some of the things that Henry Ford merely pioneered with the car I was just really fast anyhow had in areas as well as the impact car itself had in American culture from what I understand. They made about fifteen million and they had quite a lifespan and first one came. Out in Nineteen Oh eight is that right? Yes. That is correct Kinda wrap things up by one, thousand, nine, hundred, Ninety, seven when by that time was almost as much of an antique as it is today it's amazing how long the car ran and even through its cycle while the appeared. So the car changed a lot of the underlying the chemical structure while had some changes remain basically the same, the same four cylinder engine, the chew speed transmission. The bones are really did run twenty years I remember years and years ago in my former life I worked with the operating engineers, UCLA. What do we have these emergency generator rooms now ucla campus was built back in the nineteen twenties and we actually had an emergency generator that was still powered by a Model T. engine this back in the eighties imagine that that old engine was deemed reliable enough and competent enough to be working all those decades later. Really Testament to the Durance of that particular design you talk about Henry, Ford and how the model t was really the first mass produced car but I almost get the feeling. Henry could have been making washing machines or vacuum cleaners in a lot of ways the model t was sort of a test bed for the whole production line process actually rates moving assembly line process was not unique to model ts and applied to so many different types of products from airplanes, trains, cars, like you said, also goods washing machines TV's. Of that type of process, we take it for granted now, but someone had to think of it I in there had to be a pioneer that type of industry that really started this whole thing not only introducing a whole new way of making things it was done. So efficiently and relatively inexpensively that I gave any American with a halfway decent paying job the opportunity to own a car or it's eight a here's rolling car off the assembly. Line every ninety seconds from what I understand though maybe you can correct me if I'm wrong the model t was such a grand vision of Henry Ford's that he actually set up manufacturing facilities or plants all around the country, and even in other comments, he truly believed it was the car for the masses I. Don't think he really viewed it as just something for a specific region or even a specific country her specific time thought he'd really. distill down essential components vehicle and that that's what anyone in the world would what I guess. There was more than just one model T. everything from pickup trucks to delivery vans they made a whole bunch of them didn't they? Absolutely, there is various types of cars from to Cedars. Cedars even enclosed cars and open cars later and the whole line of trucks. You can even buy a model t rolling chassis and build your own body for it. If you didn't like what Fort is offering, you could just build your own. You're not even limited cars like you said, the power plant could by the Ford engine, the Ford, power plant and just apple sorts of other applications that would make a nice Margarita blender wouldn't it just about the right amount of horsepower to get that is just just right. Everybody knows what one looks like but I suspect most people don't really understand what it takes to. Make one move got a little engine. What is like three liter inline four or something like that it's a little inline four and it has a two speed transmission. What's the horsepower output on that engine? Would you figure it was rated at twenty two and a half horsepower? Wow. Okay. There's a lot of lawnmowers. Today might a riding mower hardware store that has more horsepower than this little novelty

"Twenty miles a week this guy joining us now Zach bitter American ultra marathon runner is doing some tomorrow that is insane Zacks thanks for joining us and you're going to try to run a hundred miles in place essentially right yeah yeah it's you know with all the complete nineteen stuff being sweeping around the nation all the races kinda got canceled in March so I was looking for a way to kind of channel my ultramarathon energies and decided to set up a a live stream on a twelve hour treadmill challenge on to try to get a hundred miles in less than twelve hours so you live in Phoenix and your attempt at a world record and it's going to be broadcast live on YouTube yeah yeah so the interesting thing was when I first saw this I thought well if I'm gonna do it I'm gonna need a record for verification purposes so that second step was the name may miss a live stream it and once I brought some sponsors on board like a Nordic track and field and also put where we were able to kind of gather set up where not only will I be running on the trouble bringing in up to about thirty people to do gas speaking and hosting along the way to talk about their own fitness and training and running related stuff as well so it'll be kind of a bit of a production from remote gas coming in to speak while I kind of try to challenge the hundred mile in twelve hour treadmill world record holy moly Zach computers in Phoenix he's ultramarathon or not a marathon or ultramarathon or he's going to try and set the world record for running a hundred miles the fastest on a treadmill what do you do if you have to put yeah so I have a bathroom very close to the treadmill so if I do I'll have to jump off and take care of that so you can jump off the treadmill you can jump off of it you want to stay on at the time if I get off I have to stop it so it doesn't count any distance and we have to have a separate timer for my overall time so if I stop the treadmill and get off the timer keeps going but I don't gain any more distant do you live with somebody yeah my wife and I live here in Phoenix can you tag your wife in and can she get on the treadmill and keep one and then you could go to the body I wish my wife an altar marathoner as well you got quite a resume herself she's been top tenet one of most competitive hundred milers in in the world the western states one hundred on three occasions so if I could take her in that would be great unfortunately it not to be a solo solo run this time they did say I give everybody a snapshot of what an ultramarathon is yes I guess in the most basic sense if there's anything longer than a marathon so in most cases we can I look at that at fifty collamer races and beyond and to give you a little bit of scope they can be fifty Connery comes up in the mountains that are all about ten thousand feet or they can be six day event three see how far you can get in six days around like a four hundred meter track and then everything in between so it's a pretty wide umbrella of different events but it's certainly lived up to the extreme name do you do the young shuffle for those you guys to know who cliff young is and I'm sure you know who he is I don't know who is the great Australian farmer who won the ultra marathon that was five hundred forty three miles so wearing his overalls and his moods and didn't take his teeth with because he had no idea that he was you know he just kept running is that how you do it or you do a little bit quicker yeah I'm hopefully I'm going to be really be running the whole way so I've the passes I run a hundred miles an average of six minutes forty eight seconds I'll pay so I did that at the pet center Milwaukee Wisconsin last year so this will be a little different I think being in one spot the whole time and it is a little bit different psychological battle I think where the treadmill kind of is in control of you to a degree you kind of match it pays even though you do set it whereas on a tractor rotor trail you kind of just put you gives you kind of guy the pace yourself so I think that's going to be one of the one of the challenges for tomorrow but I'm excited to look to a look towards a new challenge and something a little different in what may have done in the past you hammering the carbs tonight all right not a ton relative to most intern's athlete thank you follow a little more about high fat low carb diet I don't eliminate carbs all together but I keep him a little bit lower than the intensities of the sport I do tend to be a little lower intensity in just really long in duration is there going to be like you know when when you see a marathon and they're people that are standing on the sideline and they they have the water that they're that they're you know putting out for you is there anyone like in front of the treadmill that's going to give you water or anything like that yeah I got about two three liter jugs of of the water and you'll product I'm going to use during the during the event called Ashfield rate plus kind of pre mixed in the fridge so I've got some some twenty ounce water bottles that my wife will be filling up for me throughout the course of the day and putting on the treadmill and I'll probably go through about some probably somewhere between twelve to fifteen of those while the day all your bladder is going to be full that's awesome exciting as that is this is going to be great so you know would be great because I'm not Nordic track has that cool stuff for the of the screen and everything if they had like a lion chasing you that way which would be awesome some yeah I'll take any incentive I can get well right on brother man this sounds awesome you have a I mean this is going to be great and we're pulling for you and it's fun because in this wacky world that we're living in right now you found a way to do something that should make people smile which is awesome Zach better tomorrow so what what what what would you be happy with Tomar anything under twelve are you looking for like eleven forty some like that it's a world record right yeah the current world record right now is twelve hours and thirty two minute by Dave proctor and you know it's a pretty impressive Ron Kirk for treadmill in my opinion because it's just a little bit different but psychological thing but yeah I think I'd even wear my fitness that relative to other hundred milers I've done I think I can go under twelve hours if I have a good day but who knows maybe if I feel really good in the last thirty can get it down into that middle of an hour range or something like that on Monday we're gonna find out we'll be back to make money about chance right if you don't break the record we're gonna put you on Monday and we're really gonna make fun of it yeah there's nothing to do so we can say we can do that eleven days there are now eleven hours I'm sorry Zacks better older marathoner Phoenix Arizona trying to set the world record for running a hundred miles the fastest on a treadmill good luck tomorrow sack take care thanks.

I would like a full fledged rugby that they're on there I'm not sure why the officials didn't blow the whistle because nobody has been either way you'll lose the ball carrier swallowed up around five all kinds of three Wolverine. nine of thirty to go third quarter Michigan to ten three liter the football from there forty eight second anyone that short shotgun snapped the Patterson again standing left rolling right. Mr coming and he's going to throw on down the sideline into the I will been. but judge Gannett's Gino was a guy that was supposed to give Michigan a different look offensively we mention in the open you know they don't have the talented running backs they've had in years past the receivers are good maybe not great but there's not a lot of creativity in this look either what you continually change the scheme and expect that the continual change is good for your personnel because maybe the personally have is not the scheme because there's a lot of things that don't seem to be working here from a consistency sample were all consistent I will try to get off the field third eleven for Michigan Patterson back. time to throw it's one of the new sideline Sade at midfield will catch it is gonna be drop well short of the first down even though he said I would territory. then we'll see if Michigan wants to fund Terry Roberts one of those in the stop along with OJ moody. yeah third twelve and and really it didn't look like it any receiver. run down and actually. run deep enough the cats to make the first answer is no option even for the quarter back so say pattern just just close the file no chance first what will heart loves pounding falls to the ends of this one will pounce at the two and trickle through the back of the end so had a chance to pen I would need but a touch back.

Are Sports Drinks the Best Way to Replace Electrolytes?

"I recently got an email from Philip who wrote I work hard outside. Every we day and I sweat a lot. I drink two three liters of gatorade zero for the electrolytes. I choose the artificially sweetened drinks to avoid consuming too much sugar bigger but are the artificial sweeteners or other ingredients in these strings bad for me. Philip brings up several interesting questions. When is it necessary to replace as the electrolytes that we lose when perspire is a sport drink like gatorade the best way to do this. And what about the sugar or the artificial sweeteners in these drinks. Are they harmful to help me sort through all of this. I recently sat down with sports. nutritionist Kelly Pritchett Dr Pritchett is an associate professor in nutrition attrition and Exercise Science at Central Washington University. She's worked with elite and collegiate athletes as well as with active individuals and she's an athlete herself and in today's show I'll share some of the insights and information that I gleaned from my conversation with Kelly. Let's just bracket for a moment the question about sugar sugar versus artificial sweeteners and talk first about what happens when we sweat according to Dr Richard Your Body might produce anywhere from half leader two three leaders of perspiration per hour how much you sweat will depend on your level of exertion and also the conditions how hot and or humid it is but it will also depend on your level of fitness and how accustomed to those environmental conditions depending on how long and how hard you're sweating the loss of fluids could cause you to become dehydrated and this can be remedied simply by taking in plain water but of course. You're not only losing water when you sweat sweat. You're also losing electrolytes specifically sodium magnesium calcium potassium and chloride doctor notes that you lose far more sodium than anything else average sodium losses are one thousand milligrams per hour and that's the equivalent of almost half a teaspoon of table salt excessive and extended sweating can potentially lead to dangerously low blood sodium levels a serious condition called Hypo Nutri Mia in this situation drinking too much plain water without any electrolytes can actually make the situation worse by further deluding the sodium concentration of the blood so who is at risk of hype Nutri Mia well if you're playing a set of tennis or running a five K or you're out in the garden for a couple of hours and you're otherwise healthy you're you're probably find drinking plain water but if you're going to be sweating hard for more than sixty to ninety minutes. Pritchard says it's a good idea to think about replacing those electrolytes as well one easy way to replace electrolytes simply the eat something salty some salted nuts or sunflower seeds for example so in Phillips Case Ace he might choose to take a break every couple of hours and have a quick snack or a meal along with plenty of water. A salty snack will quickly replace the sodium. You may have lost as well as the smaller amounts of other minerals now for athletes engaged in endurance sports. Eating may not be feasible and that's where sports drinks might might seem to make sense these sport drinks can help replace the fluids you're losing but they might not provide enough sodium to completely keep up with the losses regular gatorade for example contains just four hundred and fifty milligrams of sodium her leader so if you're losing a thousand milligrams of sodium per hour you'd have to to drink half a gallon of gatorade every hour to keep up powerade which is another popular brand is even lower with only two hundred and twenty five milligrams of sodium per leader. Dr Pritchett notes that there are some sports drinks as well as gels and gums that are specially formulated for endurance athletes and they have a higher concentration concentration of sodium. You can also add a pinch of sea salt to your water bottle or your sports drinks. She says to increase the sodium content and finally there are salt salt and electrolyte replacement tablets that athletes often use to compensate for those losses. So how much sodium should you take injuring exercise well according to preach at the amount of salt that you lose an hour of exercise is a lot less than the typical American consumes each day and probably doesn't need to be he replaced but if you are working in hot conditions for hour after hour or engaged in intense extended exercise how much sodium per hour where should you be taking in says this can vary greatly from individual to individual athletes who are very salty sweaters. She explained to me you can actually see a white ish film on their skin after exercise but a liter of fluid and a thousand milligrams of sodium per hour extended heavy sweating is a good rule rule of thumb and that sodium can come from food from sport drinks salt tablets sport gels salted water any combination of those things and you can check the nutrition facts label to see how much sodium they contain remember that your post workout meal will also go along way toward replenishing those

And and the trend here for a while, of course, the f one fifty s spend the best-selling vehicle for years. I mean of any vehicle of all vehicles. It's been the best selling for how many years now forty two straight years just that forty two now we're counting. It turns out needed bigger and bigger pickup trucks, hence, the twenty twenty. Ford super duty pickup, which is is getting more powerful engines Godzilla it's getting all the other things that that you have in this. And along the way you've learned luxury is still very important to just because you get into a big truck doesn't mean you wanna get into something. That's lacking though. Absolutely Paul W we pioneered the luxury portion of the pickup segment years ago actually in the late nineties with the king ranch version of an F one fifty. So they had Texas Southwestern theme to it. Did. So well that we've expanded the higher higher portion of the lineup across both F one fifty and super duty over the last twenty years. So we've been very successful with platinum series Larry at series Ltd's which are most premium versions, and you're right. Many of those customers they appreciate not only the capability of the trucks, but particularly with super duty the heavy duty portion we find those. Tremendous appetite for not only luxury, but technology is
