"Out on the frontier and as a result strange things happen to me mighty strange things but the frontier being what it is always changing always moving and with the people who drift into it on across it. We've got just about as much law as off as the law allows show you what i mean. Let's take what seemed to be a pretty cut and dried case. That was brought to me just a matter of a few weeks ago and i guess the best way to tell you about it is to tell you what happened or what. I suppose happened before they send for me all took place in the town of rock springs or about forty fifty miles from those concerned a cattle rancher by the name of oliver baldwin and daughter dixie by crime and addiction. You're just wasting your breadth log in with me on what i'm doing and i'm going down and eastone tell him off proper forty. Maybe did make a mistake when you wrote that out for him. Maybe just thought you wrote it out for three hundred acres. Am i put an x. Two zero on it without realizing only mistake in dealing with that unprincipled no good in the first place. I know what i wrote in that dida and it was just three hundred acres three thousand well. If you're positive he changed the three hundred to three thousand. You still shouldn't take the law on your own hands or should anything about taking the law into hand. I'm just going down to andy store. Give him twenty. Proposed Indiana park will turn floodwaters into an attraction

"As extreme storms. Grow more common. The ohio river is expected to spill over its banks more often and flooding nearby areas but rather than closed down during a flood. A new park in southern indiana. We'll make the best of high water. Art pivot is okay. Lean into climate. Change lean into a wetter landscape. We want to be the part that people visit in flood. That's got martin. A river heritage conservancy. The nonprofit is working to transform six hundred acres along the ohio river in connected green spaces that will be known as origin park. During dry weather. People will be able to walk and bike along the rivers edge but during a flood. You now go kayaking paddle board through these wet woods above you will be a series of elevated pathways those pathways will still allow bikers to move through and walkers but suddenly they will be over on top of water. That will have paddlers. In at martin's group has already raised ten million dollars for the project and about three hundred acres have been acquired or set aside the entire park. We'll take about twenty years to complete but sections will be done sooner when finished. It will connect people with their changing natural environment for generations to

"I can jails are re opening just in time for the first ever guide to Griffith park hard to believe but yeah there's never been a guide book for the one hundred twenty four year old forty three hundred acre plus park Casey Schreiner says the park is so weird multi faceted that it's like a microcosm of LA itself discovering Griffith park a local's guide comes out Friday about a week after parks in LA were reopened with restrictions trainers as a guideline like wearing a mask on trails doesn't mean medical masks and anything that covers your nose and mouth is good he also says if you're worried about wearing a mask while hiking in the heat go early avoid the heat or just wait for it to not be hot

"James client is a published author photographer and musician is a graduate of the college of William and Mary with both a bachelor's and a master's degree Tim is completed a two year for photographic study of Colonial Williamsburg out of over ten thousand photographs only the very best were chosen two hundred and thirty two document ghosts and apparitions of all sizes shapes and colors he's unlocked techniques to consistently photograph residents of the other side and is included a store call background as well as paranormal experiences and personal insights to accompany each house and building in the world's largest living museum this book haunted historical o'neill Williamsburg Virginia with breakthrough ghost photography has been nominated for consideration in the non fiction category for the twentieth annual library of Virginia literary awards the sequel to that book features the largest group of ghosts ever captured on camera a whole ghost militia in formation and seconds later photographed mingling with a group of children breakthrough ghost photography of haunted historical o'neill Williamsburg part two is that sequel Tim's client welcome back to coast to coast AM how are you I am well Richard tomorrow all the way across about three thousand miles the it's three AM in the morning and I'm ready to have a great conversation about all things paranormal with you I'm looking forward to it and for those who have not had the great pleasure of visiting Colonial Williamsburg where you served as a tour guide just describe it for us well it's a three hundred acre parcel and it has on there eighty eight original eighteenth century building more than any other place in America and it has about three hundred and fifty buildings that have been rebuilt on their original foundation meticulously rebuilt I should say and they are designed to look exactly as they appeared in the eighteenth century right around the revolutionary war period and it's as you sit as it's described a living museum so I would I'm imagining that there are people many people walking around in period costumes as well correct absolutely any and you know what's interesting about that is that the I've captured the ghosts hanging around those people while they're talking you know they're taking a break or possibly they're leaving their posts and then walking to their cars to go home in all these different occasions it's the it's like a magnet where was the ghost of John and one interesting one in fact I believe that I sent into the coast to coast web webmaster was there was a I don't know about four or five of these interpreters dressed in eighteenth century clothing and it was right after a Christmas celebration and they were standing there talking before they left for home yeah at the back of one of the women was it the ghost of a small child is this she was hanging on to the skirt of this woman it was amazing yes I'm looking at right now and again if people go to coast to coast AM dot com and in the highlight carousel it should be the first one that pops up and click on that and then once you're on that page if you scroll down let's see that's one two three photographs from the top and as you describe it a group of well it looks like three women in the period costumes and wearing bonnets and shawls and so forth and long the downs addresses and to their right to gentleman wearing period costumes looks like they might even be wearing powdered wigs of the one woman who is holding the lantern in a right hand with her back to the camera there you say and they're even large did as well as a little girl worth here's to be a little girl also in a bonnet and a long dress as if she's hugging the hugging the woman now let me ask about that photograph how did you know where to point and click because you're not seeing this with your naked eye right now I'm not and I'm not really psychic but the as you mentioned before it's the first book it took me over ten thousand photographs to get two hundred and thirty so it's specially at the beginning it was pretty much a trial and error process where I was trying different things now I know on what type of conditions in what type of gatherings that are gonna track goes in I know that that is one anytime I see a group of interpreters that are gathered around talking about anything wherever they are they seem to attract ghosts from their time before we get into discussing some of the other photographs and again people can find those in the highlight carousel at coast to coast AM dot com if you were a tour guide at Colonial Williamsburg so how did this get started were you taking photographs as a tour guide or were people telling you we're showing you their photographs and then after you left that post he went back and started taking photos how did that happen well see I was a tour guide mainly in the daytime doing specifically historic floors in the company that I worked for asked me would you like to give evening goes towards I said sure why not no I was a skeptic I had never had a paranormal experience for that and so I really had no reason to believe I'm not saying that I didn't believe that like I said I was just skeptical about the whole paranormal ghost thing so I took the the script that they have I memorize that I passed the test in I started taking groups of about twenty five people out through Colonial Williamsburg and basically performing the script in front of the houses that were supposedly haunted about two weeks into that there was a woman just for the cellphone and by the way this is two thousand eleven one cellphone cameras were not that good and she was taking a photo and she captured an apparition no I'm not talking or about I'm talking a full blown apparition of person and this person appeared to be in eighteenth century costume and there was her friend standing right next to her and she was taking a photograph maybe a second later in there was nothing there.

The Best Veggies for Container Gardening

"Been giving lots of tips on planning over the last few weeks and we did We did a segment on container gardening. Recently where you talked about the best flowers for container gardeners now. You're going to give us some tips on some of the best vegetables for Container Garden. Indeed and I'M GONNA go back to a number quite a number of years ago. My oldest daughter moved out. Did their things was in. A condo was in a little cubicle of a patio use to our bigger backyard and so on she bought went nuts so she decided she's going to grow a few things well in her case regular size soup cans. Because you couldn't afford to pots. She just use the old church key to punch holes in the bottom of the hands and then planet things and then she got some of the. I'M GONNA call them restaurant size cans. Yeah put good soil in Dad Dad. Kind of taught her how to be sure spoils decent stuff not out of the backyard but perhaps out of a bag from a nursery but in any event She started growing things. And I don't remember how many posts there were on the fence around her little patio but everyone of them had a can sitting on top of it On Patio where various sizes of jokes not jugs of Buckets? And things of that nature. Some that had various things. And I'm I'm not sure she how she kept from killing plants from the residue in the containers but anyhow she always punched holes in the bottom so there was good drainage. She always did this. This and this to get good growth and grew some some radishes a tomato or to A little bit of Spinach A little bit of of well. Let's just say generally some herbs and things And had a ball with now. It didn't look pretty wasn't landscaped beauty but it was. It was something that she can say. I grew it eight now. You're only going to eat so many leaves of lettuce when you're only growing one plant. And in that case. When she was so proud of it it was in a bigger soup. Can and one plant persisted and she would take a leaf or two off at a time as she made a sandwich. That sucker yielded leaves of lettuce for quite a long time. It's any hop mark with all of that. As preparation there are various plants that can grow well in containers number one remember. That soil has to be drainable holes to be punched in the bottom the other day mark and I were teasing. I took a points at home is an. I know what you're GonNa do first thing when you walk in the door. I said Yeah. You're right I'm GONNA take that pot cover off that holds water or I'm GonNa Punch a big hole to bottom of it so it'll drain any up. The things like spinach now. It depends on the size of container My daughter is in an apartment at this point. She has gone to five. Gallon buckets stacked if you will Small Patio Doesn't want to get into a whole lot of it but she just can't give up gardening now when she was a kid. I tried to get her to work at home and garden. No no no but now it's a different story so she's planning all kinds of things starting with spinach that can grow in the outer edges. And then you can put in Bush beans or you can actually put in tall growing with with three sticks in the in the container. You can grow bigger beans carrots etc. Now one of the things. I want to mention the same as in a larger garden when you plant seeds. Spinach Bush beans carrots and so on you have to thin them to leave too many carrots too close together too many radishes to close they will essentially destroy each other when when you are thinning any of those things. You're thinking Oh my God I'm killing plants. Well Yeah you are. But you're gonNA leave the ones that you expect to harvest from or indeed harvest. I would imagine what this character probably want. Dwarf Variety Yes oh and and what not only dwarf mark but ones of a shorter shorter carrot. Edible part Most of the time. You won't have enough depth in containers to grow what I'll call long-stalled carrots Just as a general thing eggplants can be planted I have never never had much luck with them. Myself in the garden however. I may try one and a container just to prove that I can do it because I've been wiped out a couple times but those things can be handled pots having fun with them and a reward at the end and You have a few more that you can use to the list indeed. The eggplant was the one I just mentioned and then things like lettuce. You can do several crops of lettuce Pick two leaves at a time when they're coming on and use them away. Tomatoes might agree to move from a three hundred acre dairy farm to a twelve twelve patio. Hello he bought nuts but he got into one of those container type gardens hydroponic type. He had his. He saved his own seeds from year to year to year. They always breakthrough. They were kind of ugly looking good tasting and the diameter of would cover any bun. You'd possibly could buy so. Tomatoes can be grown. Then things like now garlic's a little tougher because you need to have a place where you can plant them in the fall harvest the next year so that they don't drop die get frozen over winter radishes. Reddish has galore. And they're pretty too. They're pretty. Yeah and and what I'm thinking is when you grow them too late in the season they'll get a little mighty. Y'All yeah definitely and then. We end up with peppers

"We have to take advantage of the genetic diversity that exists in nature and just for to have. that's causation part of professor of horticultural sciences at the university of Florida in Gainesville greenway there's a couple things in there what is hedging bets go maybe Florida maybe Georgette maybe North Carolina which again gets the kind of the scale you have to have some skill and money to to do that and the other part of that is just the adaptation well if we can't grow oranges will grow avocados to talk to me about that the resilience adaptation part that that professors get well I think I mentioned to you and we spoke earlier that I grew up on a farm and my mother who still farms in Hawaii is seeing a lot of what he's talking about there she's coffee fine the coffee farm but she's also seen all kinds of fruit trees that you planted when she first moved to the property twenty five years ago making fruit that didn't like mangoes and coconuts that work coastal much lower elevation fruit suddenly it's showing up further sort of planted them on a whim another fruiting so that's happened within my lifetime and I feel like it's. a clear message that things are moving fast some of what ship our own other agronomists are are looking at is how you you know think about reading plans with resilience so they can continue to grow in the regions where they have grown for so long right so some of his research is adapting the peach in citrus plants to survive the new normal as he sat right so can we can't continue having the same because we know a lot of but with you know new property is like drought tolerance you know insect resistance for my you know my gradients tech populations heat tolerance frost tolerance you know and this is one of the areas of focus on and breeding I interviewed a farmer in a very different region of Wisconsin actually cherry farmers and apple farmers in the Midwest have been dealing with the seasonal shifts that have been causing all kinds of free mature blooming and then what they call total kill ovens where a frost will calm in April or may at a normal time the tree will hopefully fruited and then you know in this case of this one farmer who has about three hundred acres of apple trees he had total total kill so he lost more than a million dollars and harvest in in two hours of a free is well over one night and an early may and he had then began to install frost fence which are these fans that bring warm layers of air down into you know from a five into the sort of lower areas where the trees are crying which was you know many tens of thousands of dollars of investment there were some farmers were bringing in helicopters to push down this this layer of warm air to try to protect these trees from freeze carbon impact of all yeah exactly right I don't it's like we're trying to mix up this atmosphere in order to deal with these major atmospheric chefs and it was you know totally. ailing and and and. unintended to could see what is happening on the ground you know these adaptation efforts when you can't pick up and move a tree that's been in the ground for ten twenty years you know it's it's it's very hard to say let's just shift north or you know shift the region I mean there he's hanging on to this minimal three generation farm and don't you know don't want to start growing avocados or whatever so part of it is how do you sort of a dress the breeding challenges of building resilience and of the plants and part of it is do we see that regions where plants are grown shifting and this is particularly true and I mean I researched this in areas of western Africa where there are you know having serious difficulty growing seven digit US crops because of crime environmental pressures and again some of the scientists there are basically saying we want to continue growing heirloom indigenous crops but we have to you know use modern technologies to find ways to build resilience into these crops so again it was sort of confounding some of these questions about what's local and traditional indigenous and what's survivable in the climate..

If the fire spreads or not the Woodbury fire in the superstition mountains about five miles north west of superior is now at ninety three hundred acres information officer Dolores Garcia says about two hundred firefighters are on the job trail system in the area of the fire to create firebreaks in some cases, maybe to stop the progression of the fire. No Russa Persian new year tonight at sundown will be the official start of the Jewish festival of Parham. And maybe you've noticed some bulbs emerging from the ground testing, the weather. I heard a bird chirping this morning and realized how long it had been since I heard a very long and sustained song here in New York City, one of the best places to see the signs of spring in full force is of course, central park, the central park conservancy is hosting an all day event today to celebrate the changing of the seasons. Now, the conservancy is a private not for profit organization that manages the park everything from day to day operations two long ongoing restoration projects so here to discuss what events they have planned for today is the president and CEO of the central park concert. Consi Betsy Smith, Betsy welcome to all of it. Hi, thank you. Thank you for having me. Join them. Of course. We'll thank you. What does getting central park ready for spring? Look like, I can imagine what it looks like when you just have a single garden, but you've got over eight hundred acres to prep. It is. It is a massive job that it is one. We have been looking forward to for months. We've got eight hundred acres. You're absolutely right. But within that, you know, there's three hundred acres of lawns that have to be seated and mulched we've got twenty six ballfields that I have to be graded and raking and uncovering all the wonderful bulbs that are speaking up now through them through the through the grass with through the weeds. So it's it's a wonderful time of year. And we're so excited about it. Let.

"So it's like, oh, you can survive the apocalypse in this shis whole place doesn't look warm. And inviting they never do it's this what are you talking about? This is a castle is castle one of the most warmest and most inviting structures known. Yeah. Castles are always warm and inviting place does not look like the kind of place. I'd want to sit out the apocalypse. I know I look at it. Look at those pictures, there's would do that. Sure sit out the apocalypse there. If you had a swimming pool with like a waterslide under water is a precious resource now until outside during the apocalypse. It depends on what kind of apocalyptic thing. You're you're dealing with like is war is that if you're do you think that are the walls and windows and everything strong enough that you can use it a whole out there. I mean, look this this looks this looks like a missile silo. At least at least a new because a lot of people do convert missile silos into bunkers, and that's just now you're in your underground. But I mean look at the surrounding area. I know that's going to protect you from the and of land, Danny? Yeah. You've got a good defensive position. But I mean what what's the point of life living in there? You got no way in the Oregon, dude. There's two organs. Are you telling me, you're not going to have off with your wife and every evening, you're doing it again until I did not know there were two organs? So you play really Oregon's. Yeah. Here's a picture of the Oregon. That's a pro on that to one of the two pipe organs in the home because you know, how everybody's like. Well, you're gonna have a lot of time on your hands type and by the way, nothing two of us. So we're not wanna have to share Oregon's for sure and nothing makes you happier to the sound of organ music. Yeah. Is one of the most uplifting. Whatever down. I actually listen to some of the better organ songs. Concertos those Fuchs whatever this place is not warm undivided, and they tried their best. I'm looking at the kitchen right now. What mean warm it's going to be it's in the middle of the Nevada desert. I mean, like look at the kitchen the kitchen is designed by someone who still thinks that blink one eighty two at its prime. Here's thing. This thing was. The temperatures there in the summer get to the nineties in the summer, and they don't get below freezing. In the winter. It's an ideal climate ideal climate, Danny you don't know what the climate is going to be like three hundred acres Danny you could make your own mountain bike track. Hold on it. This is a climate apocalypse. It's going to be one hundred and fifty degrees here. Good thing. Sixteen cement walls to and all the solar and all the everything you could ever need, Danny that this place. Also, this this tunnel that we're looking at right now. It also includes an abandoned gold mine. Oh, wow. I wonder why they abandoned it. Allegedly even though it's an abandoned gold mine, according to the real estate listings still high in gold conflict on. Yeah. Real estate agent would never exaggerate and his team. I know that gold olds at a premium the currency the future. Lapse of the economic says you can store cigarettes in there to making your mind worth twice as much. Yeah. Run the moon shining operation as civilization kind of gets back up on his feet a little bit. You're gonna crush the game third and a third for the hell. Yeah. Dude. Three hundred K for a third of that. It's twenty rooms we each have almost seven rooms a family. You know, what it might be an equal distance for all of us like to meet up there. So it might be a good place to do this. I think it's a long drive for me. It's the longest drive for me for sure it's forty years..
