Manhattan DA rejects GOP demand for info on Trump case
"The district attorney for Manhattan, New York has made clear. He will not be sharing documents surrounding the hush money investigation into Donald Trump with members of Congress. House Republicans had sought documents and testimony about the case. Calling the grand jury investigation into Donald Trump, quote, an unprecedented abuse of prosecutorial authority. In a letter obtained by The Associated Press, the general counsel for Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg slammed the congressional request as an unlawful incursion into New York's sovereignty, adding that Donald Trump's lawyers reportedly urged three House committee chairman to intervene after Trump created a false expectation. He was going to be arrested this week and says that is not a legitimate basis for a congressional inquiry. The 5 page response from Bragg's office marks a public acknowledgment, a grand jury is currently investigating Trump, although there appears to be a pause this week in his case. I'm Jackie Quinn

AJ Benza: Fame is a Bitch
'The Rock' Makes Studio Heads a Lot of Money
"His eye up in the air. His eyebrow up in here, I should say and say, do you smell what AJ is cooking? I know it's corny, but that's what people did back then. It's just thinking about it makes me cringe, but we did it. Get The Rock. He's so popular. I know him in the minority. Because these films he makes make studios a lot of money. You know, people by houses on these films is a great example of this when Jerry Weintraub, one of the greatest guys you could ever meet, I mean, he's gone now. He's a great producer, a very good actor, too, not for nothing. Produced a Karate Kid, all the oceans, 11s movies. I mean, he's produced a ton of shit. But when he saw kids imitating Ralph Macchio doing that crane pose, he grabbed him and said, we're going to make a bunch of these movies, kid. And then years go by, Jerry's at the end of his life, and he sees Ralph at a restaurant. And he introduces Ralph to a bunch of his friends. He goes, this is Ralph Macchio. He bought me three houses. Yeah, because movies make a lot of money and studio heads make a fortune. So The Rock is making a fortune for studio heads, but it doesn't mean it's good cooking. I mean, rampage. The movie where he plays a scientist who must stop an albino ape that is exploded in size whose devouring Chicago, that made almost half a billion. In 2018, and then later that summer, he does skyscraper, he battles this burning luxury high rise. That made over 300 million, even Hercules as shitty as it was made 250 mil back in 2014. Who are these people rushing out to see these films? Actually, I did take the kids to see skyscraper, but we laughed through it because it was so fake. I also wanted to see Alexandra Daddario because I'd never seen her with that amazing rack she has in a movie before and it was on full display. So some of those millions are for her. But then somebody pointed out to me that, I don't know, NBC has a show and it's third season called young rock. I've never heard of this show. It's all about how little Dwayne Johnson grew up to become The Rock. What is this ever happened? Somebody still alive having their very own origin prequel series? I feel like someone's pulling a joke on me. Because whenever I see him in a movie, his acting is no different than when he was breaking a chair over the back of Triple H I mean, really. I've never seen him stretch himself beyond that. Any who? And I hate when people say any who, but that just did it. Leads me to a conversation or rather a question posed to me by a listener and a friend Adam marsh. Adam is a guy who love my writing. I hate saying love. He liked my writing a lot. He's younger than I am. I don't even know how old he is. He's probably 40 something. I'm 60. And he reached out to me. Back in the AOL days. You know, I'd love to meet with you and talk about writing and I'd love to get some, you know, you know, just tips or whatever the hell it was. He just wanted to know more about writing. It was like, I want to say like 1998, maybe, 99, whatever it was. So I met the kid at a place called Franks in Burbank, one of those places you walk into the daytime, people at the bar drinking, smoking cigarettes, and in the back, you can have a steak. Those places are gone. It was a very Tarantino like spot to make a movie, Frank's the all those places have gone in LA. It's a shame in New York too. You just, you got those people who just sit at the bar and God knows what they're thinking about, you know? The people you hoped when you were younger you'd never become. Like, what is he doing here at 1 o'clock in the afternoon having a double bourbon and smoking a cigarette? What the fuck went wrong with his life? But there we were and, you know, Adam and I struck up a friendship and we did some things together, he's actually a tremendous writer, wrote a couple of movies, not big movies, but movies, and, you know, we put together a graphic novel about my life that he thought would be great and he led the way because I don't know about graphic novels. He's more of a comic book guy, not a nerd at all. I mean, his father was a tough ass motherfucking hells angel, whatever. I mean, his father was a kick ass dude. You know, he saw his father beat dudes up in bars and shit. He comes from a tough background, but you know, comics were his thing. He knows about that, especially graphic novels. So he wanted to turn my life into a graphic novel. And we wrote this thing called sanctus CDs. Never went anywhere, but I was amazed at how good he was at it. And we're right now working on something together again, it's too early to talk about it, but hopefully with his ability and my ability, we can turn it into something. So he texts me, this is the guy I always tell you about, he'll always

Should Biden Be Impeached Over His Call to Saudi Arabia?
"Republicans are now talking at the leadership level about impeaching Biden, impeaching Biden if, as seems likely, Republicans win the house. And there's a decent chance that Republicans will also win the Senate. So impeachment becomes something that's quite real. Now I was worried as I'm sure some other people were also that Republicans would do what Republicans do, which is essentially talk big and then quickly back off the moment that they come into power. And go well, you know, we really don't want to be going down impeachment. We've got a lot of legislative business to do. No, there's actually no legislative business to do for the simple reason or whatever legislative business is done by Republicans is going to be vetoed by Biden. So let's not fool ourselves and talk nonsense about passing legislation. It's really not going to happen. It's going to be a standoff. Republicans should do is use the power of the purse as leverage against Biden and impeachment is very important. Now, here's the least stefanik number three House Republican saying that one potential reason to impeach Biden is quote his illegal request that Saudi Arabia de la delay, oil production cuts. And she goes on to say when there's an egregious abuse of power and high crimes and misdemeanors, that means anything is on the table. Now I can see why Elise Stefanik is saying this. She's basically thinking, look, Biden makes a phone call to the Saudis and basically says hey listen release the oil now because the midterms are coming up. And that's certainly distasteful. And she sees that there's a kind of a mirror with the Democrats going after Trump for what? A phone call that he made to Ukraine. So there's a kind of parallelism here and I think this is really what Elise Stefanik is grabbing on to.

"Peter one of the things I find fascinating about this is this was a congressional subpoena correct To appear in front of the committee Now as you well know and I'm sure your lawyers know those congressional subpoenas Congress is not a law enforcement body They have to have a legislative purpose What was the legislative purpose may I ask of Peter Navarro who had nothing to do with January 6th at all What was the legislative purpose of you being called in front of the January 6th committee I absolutely none And when I argued Dan and my civil suit is what they're doing is pursuing a judicial function violating separators and powers engaging in judge jury executioner type behavior behind legally what they call a facially valid legislative function And this is one of the things See I think one of my missions here Dan I'm going to stand up for the constitution I'm going to stand up for the country I'm going to stand as a commander in chief I'd love to get my case in the Supreme Court because there's some deep issues here that for 5 years the 7 Democrats on that kangaroo committee tried through first the Russia hoax which is discredited two fully impeachment trial Stan and three three House resolutions to take Trump out of office on bogus grounds It's like a coup d'etat It's simply a violation of separation of powers And by the way the committee in and of itself does not have what's called a ranking minority member In other words a Republican that was just put in charge there in order to cooperate with the committee chair And under the House rules under the committee rules they're supposed to have that in order to be able to issue legal and enforceable subpoenas They don't have that I mean it's an illegal committee pursuing a judicial rather than a legislative function that violates separation of

"three houses" Discussed on WCPT 820
"And I think that's part of the mission of Fox News channel Not necessarily to get people to vote for Republicans to get people to generally just check out of thinking about politics or wanting to participate in politics Because the fewer people who actually vote the better off the Republicans are That's been an ongoing maxim in American politics And this is something that I think roger ailes deliberately set up over at Fox News channel That well I guess it's a pox on both their houses So oh screw it I'm not going to participate at all And that's kind of the mission here too Again I'm no lawyer but it just you know they've been poisoned to the body politic for so long bob but I really feel like now they have not just mass genocide but insurrection and treason on their hands and the continuing to foment This grew that is ongoing It is really I mean it's not dangerous is too mild a word right Well I swear I'm really encouraged by this week all the events that have come out over the past couple of days And certainly Eric Walter has been tweeting about this a lot recently is that 22 is going to have those public hearings And I love that they have delayed the real serious ongoing public hearings for 22 The timing is just right You don't want to timing like those of us in the cheap sheets Should shut the up Basically Yeah Well this is I mean the S is really going to start hitting the fan next year when these public hearings start And a lot of people who weren't tuned in like we are I mean we have our faces pressed up against our computer screens 24/7 devouring this stuff Most people don't And so when the public hearings start that's going to be when people really dial in and go oh my God That's right Oh I can't believe this actually happened in the United States I mean don't you feel like what we've been talking about They're just like poking them with a stick the other people that are sitting in that body and these texts yesterday bob I mean I want to get your take on them They just get worse and worse And yeah Fox hosts and hypocrisy and this and that But these active members of Congress right They included messages from a Georgia government official sent to Meadows when Trump was on the phone with Georgia Secretary of State urging him to find votes for Trump right as well as discussions of Trump's efforts to overturn the election The committee also released a text meadow sent to a member of Congress detailing Trump's views about Mike Pence and state legislatures trying to overturn the election result They read a text message from the government official Georgia officials sent to Meadows during the call need to end this call I don't think it will be productive for much longer This is why they turned they taped it Because they knew what was happening right This is another one Member of Congress I heard Jeff Clark is getting put in on Monday That's amazing It'll make a lot of patriots happy And I'm personally so proud You're at the tip of the spear I could call you a friend I mean Mark Meadows is Wow In this update Right Another text message Day after the election members a member suggested medals and aggressive strategy Aggressive law would be a word for illegal Treasonous Yeah To let for Republican state legislatures to just send their own electors to Congress and let the Supreme Court decide who won the election This is before the election is over Right Okay Still count Yeah And then this one Travis was saying this may be the worst one please check your signal said the message to Mark Meadows in reference to an encrypted messaging messaging application signal So deliberately obviously hiding stuff on encrypted house Yeah Right Yeah Well look the whole mission of this thing was to not necessarily pursue one course of action The mission was chaos The idea was to throw the entire election into chaos by proceeding through this January 6th strategy And it was basically the underpants nome theory right Number one chaos number two question mark number three House of Representatives and Trump wins That's the whole idea to get it to the point where people are like you know this is Chinatown Let's just send it to the house and the house will decide the election I could even see members of the traditional press writing op eds in the midst of all this chaos Let's say they were somewhat successful on January 6th I can imagine the op eds in The Wall Street Journal New York Times saying well you know it's all of this chaos There's a constitutional remedy The House of Representatives just let them decided And so the push would have been to get it to that point And at that point we know that the Republicans had a larger delegation than the Democrats And so that would have been a Trump would have been reelected This goes to the Stephanie Miller vacation strategy chairman Thompson said the panel will make a decision within a week or so about releasing the names of the authors of these texts So Is going to hit the fan very soon here You pointed out a couple of other things just lost in the news cycle Alex Jones says Joe Biden may have used weather weapons to create tornadoes that killed scores In the U.S. and you just said the tiny airplanes and helicopters are back That's one of my favorites Could you please give us a little Alex Jones warning of the tiny helicopters The way this works is if you see the tornado look for a little tiny helicopters and airplanes move in a tornado closer to the town because the closure gets to the town the better off you're gonna be as president Obama or President Biden wants to take all your firearms I don't know how he gets to that point but it's always like okay weather weapons and then Obama or Biden wants to take your guns No bob is funny he is serious Alex Jones did say Obama was using tiny airplanes to push whether around Okay Presumably Presumably piloted by gay frogs That's exactly right Yeah You're gonna turn the frigging frogs gay Following mimickers is not juice boxes These boxes Okay And don't forget if you go out in your backyard and you spritz if you put some vinegar in one of those plant spritzers and you shoot it into the air that'll dissipate chemtrails Okay Thank you Thank you Handy tip for the holidays Good to know Thank you bob And then also just lost it and you Steve doocy saying to Jen Psaki We've seen an arsonist burned down a half a $1 million Christmas tree in New York City Back on the streets Does president think that's good governing And you said this is the dumbest ethnic question I've ever heard from doocy boy but he will probably top it tomorrow I burn my mouth on hot soup Does the president think this building back better Yeah What is that What is it I injured myself eating pudding with a rubber spoon What does Joe Biden think about that Yeah you know what he is you know what Peter doocy is He's a professional time waster That's what he's whole mission there is to just waste time so that serious questions can't get asked I'm gonna throw in this complete non sequitur about you know you know I got a pencil eraser stuck in my nose Why doesn't President Biden pass the budget It is just this nonsense Yeah Alex Jones did you forget to mention lizard people and Raytheon Yeah lizard people the birds right beyond the I already said bilderbergs Ken mentioned bilderberg too often You got bilderberg you got the bechtel IBM They're all conspiring to turn the frigging frogs gay I think the.

I see for t V and that is, am I still loving American horror story season. 10 You're asking me looks specifically for one reason, But do you still like it? Hell, yeah. Oh, you do, girl. Okay, I'm I'm on the train. Yeah, I'm comfortable in my seat. I've been given a cocktail. And I'm on the train. I think I'm on the train. I think until the conclusion it has not Ryan Murphy jet. It cannot pale Nosferatu looking vampire people. Um, yes. Yeah, And and, um While taking something to get the magic or the power. Oh, you're still liking it, too. I am still liking it. I feel like I am I am on the train of doom, though, and it's just barreling toward hell. It is just wow. But the reason why I'm asking you specifically if you still like it is that there's a child that's taking a major role in the story, and I was curious to see if she's annoying you and if you want her to just be gone. I want her to be eaten by the drive. Yes, I I, um She's annoying again. Um, Once again, the kid has to mess up everything. And, um uh yeah. "Coming leadership ouster of liz. And his big lie that the twenty twenty election was somehow stolen. Cheney's crime is not that she isn't conservative. It's that she's not conservative as defined by today's republican party which apparently means unquestioning loyalty to the defeated former president. She stands accused of telling the truth that the election was not stolen and for criticizing trump citing the january six capital interaction. Some covert vaccine. Skeptics are changing their minds about getting a shot and public health officials want to capitalize on that emerging trend. Dan Diamond is covering it for the Washington Post, and he spoke with Cuomo's Tom Cutler. In your report. You highlight a few skeptics who spoke during a focus group about why they changed their minds about the shot. What did they did? They have to say here generally. Well, I think the answer is it's not general. There are a lot of very specific reasons where people either saw a doctor on television that they really trusted or light. They have family or friends who have been through Getting the virus and warned them against it. They thought about how the vaccine might change their lives for the better So ah lot of individual decisions, but I think it comes down to People who might not have had a lot of information about the vaccine got more reliable information from key key people who were influential in their lives in various ways. You know, I think it's instructive that was having a conversation with the people the other day about somebody heard something outlandish. And I said, How did you verify that and said, Well, I just heard it from someone. So I said, You know, you don't ever Just go by the word of one person, and that is what I think A lot of people have done with this vaccine is they get sick and has a chip in it or whatever it might be. And once they do the research and find out things like this have to be encouraging public health officials using this focus group that helped to boost those vaccination efforts right Focus group was watched by folks in the White House was watched by some public health experts. Was obviously watched by me, too. So I write my story. But the reason there were so many people watching is they're trying to figure out how to win over tens of millions of people who say that they're not planning on getting the vaccine yet, and many of them You have these beliefs about coronavirus about the vaccine that just don't line up with the fax. So that's one goal to get better information out to people who might have questions about the safety of the vaccine. What reasons do we get? Do we hear most for holding out on this? Well, I think one reason is and this makes sense to me is a long time Health reporter. People are nervous about a vaccine that arrived very quickly. The record for a vaccine before Corona virus was about Four years for the mumps vaccine. The current virus vaccine arrived in under a year Now there was reason it was able to do that was a lot of red tape got waved, waiting around for New trials and other things to be set up that they were able to speed up that process, But they didn't speed up the safety checks, making that something that when people understand that the same amount of diligence was applied. In monitoring the tens of thousands of people going through clinical trials last year. That's something that seems to reassure a lot of people who are worried about the peace of the vaccine, and I think another issue that has come up over and over again. Is whether there will be long term effects from the vaccine. And I think doctors have been honest, They don't know for sure. If you get a vaccine today, this new vaccine what will happen Five years from now, 10 years from now, but moves vaccines, you see reactions. You see side effects within the first number weeks or months, and we're well past that put people who got the vaccine now last year, All right, Dan. Great Reporting. I believe it was every Minute. Fire burns. It has the chance to double and I apologize. The fire department. I got that stat wrong, But it really does say, you know, in in one minute you could go from a fire the size of your stove. You will fire the size of half of your kitchen. So you know, every single second is the bitch is smooth that every single second for us matters. We're talking with Mike Spaulding, managing editor for WTMJ here on reporter's Notebook, Mike. I couldn't help but feel as you were going through these reporting numbers. It seems a lot of this can be traced back to income inequality is that right? If people aren't able to pay the bills, and they're leaving their oven on to try and heat their home when fire trucks get there, we've heard complaints from older people during the past week about snow removal efforts and leaving big piles of snow in underserved communities. It seems like a lot of these things. Come back to one thing, and that's income inequality. It's such a multi faceted issue, but yeah, that is one almost kind of key component. You can trace most of this back to you and and I don't even think you necessarily have to look at what the Economic outlook for individual neighborhoods Look like you can just kind of see where these air happening Maura than 40 of the 54 fires. The Fire department responded to that of damage and you know home Have happened on the city's north side, which historically been economically is the most challenged part of Milwaukee on about 10 or so of the fires has happened on the cities. Outside, which will not facing the same economic issues at all times. Those have in common, the fact that the houses are very closely Put together. A lot of the homes are sometimes 60 70 8100 years old. Just circuit breakers aren't as good And a lot of rentals, which you hear from neighbors all the time. When a neighborhood gets a lot of rentals and gets broken up into a duplex or a quad plus or something like that. You have a lot of stuff going on. And maybe not always the most attentive landlords. So everything kind of compounds on one another, But absolutely I think if you break the numbers down, and look where these fires are impacting, um, you can draw that kind of a straight line. Conclusion of the other thing. Alex is The availability of smoke detectors. You'll hear the fire department over and over and over again, and Mayor Barrett even said it during a press.
