Part 3:John Adjer, Dick Jerardi
"The with steve. Horse racing handicapping interviews. This is stupid. We're back our three about ten minutes in and happy to be able to have john visit. And the word that circulated yesterday that kandari at twenty two had been euthanized. And you know after earlier in the year having been pensioned as a stallion really a horse of this magnitude passes you you just you get an outpouring of Response and that Anybody that saw him. Ron anybody that batum anybody that watched really as he turned in one courageous performance after another Really a special horse. And certainly john the mcnair big new it. Because when they when they sold the the entity of stone her side and the facilities and broodmares and everything else They they held onto calgary John good morning. Good morning to you. Meant so much to not only bobbing janice but to just the entire Stone side team. And you're exactly right. He had lots of not. The least of which is the great trainer. Bob baffert no doubt and I've mentioned in introducing the discussion going back. it's funny that one of the performances if not you know the most remarkable performance of his career it came in defeat because his effort in the derby. John is i. i mean. mind boggling. The people that understand race dynamics what the effort he put in there And you know the way. The race essentially collapsed. You know for him to to hold third and you know only unable to withstand the narcos and and invisible ink late. was spectacular but then the rest of his career. He won the hat full of great ones the to cigar miles You were involved in every aspect of even creating connery. Talk a little bit about that. You know that time And then you know the decision to retain him when the sale came to shake well In regard to to The whereab- where Congre the the the broodmare came from. I was always when i was a young man I got to know. Bob brick and do a little bit. Who who worked for max gluck who owned elmendorf in back as you will know back. In you know the sixties and seventies elmendorf was just a tremendous force and Always had a lot of respect for the for the the broodmare band that they they put together and So when a friend of mine who was at least a couple of stallions from from mr cooke here in texas When he was looking to maybe bam he asked me give him some advice on it or talking about it and And i did. I said by the way that mcnair. It's ever farm now in kentucky and find out if you mr cooke you're selling you might wanna sell the broodmare band in and out not knowing exactly what beheaded guy a long story short. They center sir The far manager who later became far manager. Stoler side bobby spalding. sent A list of the thirty five mayors. I think we're going to have twenty six votes. This was in the in the winter of nineteen ninety seven and one of the key mayors was mary sheba. The the who ultimately became the dam of Conkary and We all like most people like to the great horse arrives away. And he had been moved from from shaikh mohammed. Thank over in europe and he had been moved to three chimneys farm and and Anyway we we bred mayor to Arising and and and the was altered photo was Kandari had he He was a big. He's a big boy to yes. He had had a foaling. He broke some ribs when he was. He was large though and then He he became somewhat of the of the farm pet there because he was in stall for for several weeks and And janssen bob love coming to the farm. And she started feeding peppermint and so from his whole life. In fact i last time. I saw congress this past august We had a horse sale in in texas and Which would go up to. When i was up in saying that area. Obviously good up to allardice. Seekonk worry and all you had to do is to answer is a little bag. Full of peppermint can hear that sound. He knew what he you know. Knew the pen permits we're close. Who'd you mentioned. Bobby and you know i don't john. I don't think they're going back It's probably two years now When when mr mcnair past we you were traveling. And i by bobby joined us and talked about About bob mcnair and the the development who who broke him and got him started. Well well we had by then we. We had our training center right and Down at aken and We actually we started out The mayor's get get in the horse business. I met him in. Met bob in the fall of nineteen ninety-three. He'd been trying to buy the niamey dolphins and that didn't work out then. He was involved with the when the nfl which might have a expansion of two more teams. He was involved with the group that we're trying to get one at saint louis ultimately the rams moved there but that didn't work out so he and janice always loved horses and she from a little town Holly hill you know where they are like this. I was broken and So and janice quite a question theirself so so anyway A mutual friend of ours of Introduced me to him and he said well you know. Maybe i'd like to get involved with some thoroughbreds. And and so that really started in the winter of nineteen ninety four and they had such they were first we bought for one hundred thousand dollar stake at it at at at Golden gate in her name was southern. Truce and and then Introduced him to my dear friend. Arthur handcock in and A he was he and charlie owned a horse named strodes creek and it had some offers on him and anyway long story short. we bought a piece of him and So in i've been in business three months and all of a sudden they're they're they're in the paddock there at the kentucky derby strodes creek ends up. Run a second so we we. We had a great running. Bob's made the comment. He said that john. I'm cited by backup where you never want more than ten. I certainly don't wanna farm. I said well that's fine and that follow the end up on a piece of art. Launch acreage a Which becomes donor side. So that's kind of high all got some and then Then we just had a great great run of luck to gag. Never could've worked or anybody is fabulous as they are. They were in in Skill dance we. We talk all the time but baba's Just give him the ingenious janice hut most credit for for all of their skulls never would have happened without. They're not not only They had the financial wherewithal but they. They were really supportive. Even in the coaching you know you have a lot of ups and downs in this game. So they were the best when when the negotiations. And you've told this story actually. If i'm not mistaken years ago with us you about how quickly the deal came together with with shaykh muhammad But what what was the element that had kandari excluded. Well they just they just want to keep of course kangaroos like a you know member of the family. And he wasn't the only one they kept. We kept We kept all the stallion interest That that they had they had quite a few interest in stallions. Who did a lot of business lanes in and they had shares in lots. Lots of stallions There in in in in the kentucky area and And then the the ones they owned out right like kandari and I stadium over to dina springs and then he went up to doctor. Leonardo cain and his wife and and new york stand at farm they add up there and then We wanted to getting back to texas. Bob always wanted to try to help texas so we did. A lot of business will farish. And so he had a wonderful foreign called lanes in texas and he came there and when we sold it we also close friends with The scars and and ken carson. He manages valor farm. That's got there. But actually the mcnair balked had brought the the the two leading stallions into texas. For last they've been leading staying for about the last Almost twenty years in one was valid expectations and it was leading sire for bats. Thirteen years and then the president leading sars too much bling we we. We raised him. And were bob baffert. Trained him for the years. Absolutely and So so anyway. They they like that they had. They had later on we. What we so to john ferguson. for shake mohammed was was the farm and the training centers. We already sold me bill the property there in saratoga the training center. They're talk about his career. John and some of the some of the key moments some of the favorite Because he kept fabulous company. I i couldn't help but Read off the the names of of the horses that beat him because if he didn't win he was losing to either a horse that was going to become a top sire or Know somebody that And that that had plenty of plenty of resume associated with them Twelve wins and i think five four five grade ones Including the two cigar miles. And he did it. You know he did it from the. I guess. The carter was seven furlongs right so from seven frogs to a mile and a quarter. That's right we we We went up to He he had. He had run in his first start. Bobby bobby called me. And and The the the at the at the i. I tell you the truth i i. I was not not right about that. the first the people that broke congress. I i remember that now. We we had just gotten their place at Aken But was j. b. and kevin mccarthy the catholics Mcaleenan's down they were doing work with bob and and actually We had bought At about the the philly Allowed me to bid on the philly that became eluki and we were successful in in behind her. And bob bob course trainer and and then Bob mcnair said. Why don't you let you know. Maybe bob baffert pick out four or five k. Yearlings in in taking down. Then go to the captain's pen so when we first learned that congo really had some talent was j b. Call me that that would that would been Let me think here That would be the back about in in two thousand and he said he said john. You still have you still have the dam of this rasi coke and i said we sure did. We hope she's going to be one of our better broodmare said but don't seller. It's the fastest thing you said. We've been banned and that ended that that was agree and then Starting at Del mar he. He had a bad start which was unusual for him later on and i think he finished six and kind of jam his knee or something and Anyway we gave him little time off. And then there's a three year old. He broke his maiden very handily at santa anita and then he won lance rice. And then bob bob top so much shipping to new york. And he'd beat manar coast in the wood memorial and then on so obviously that was a big day for us and she was. She said about ecuador he was He was undefeated at akwa. Talk in Anyone three grade morons and then normally would memorials a great one but for that year they it was designated a gray to. That's true and right and then the right now again At back down to to the great to I had actually forgotten that that there's been that there'd been that period where the would went down to a great to then went back to a great one and then these couple of years is a great tool along bluegrass but Yeah he he he was we won. We won the race when it was With bob and john when you come back to a great one that's right that's right couple years later so so but but anyway then then we went onto the course. He ran a brilliant race in the derby and and I still looking watson watch. The reruns still take were second. I think but it visible eight keach must beat us by niche or something for saka and Macos ran a brilliant race. Obviously and You know. I think he doesn't eat still have the second fastest derby absolutely and And it's my understanding. I think congress. I think he's a co host the fastest mile split with with another horse. I don't know if that spend a buck or not may be or i'm not sure about that but Anyway i think i think they key He's right up there for as the miles split and and then from there we went to the preakness and then With third and we were third in the preakness His stablemate point given one at and and then then we gave him some time and he came back and won the reporting for the swaps which was a great one at the time. And they wanted to jack the ride and then it seemed you. After that. Jim dandy and i i. I'm sure i was there. But i had forgotten because i i remember scorpion winning but the i i don't remember much else about it And of course around the same time Point given would have been over at at The haskell and then onto the travers but he he was off at that point for the for the rest of the year and and got hurt their. Yeah you got hurt in the. We went back to the barn because he was a huge. Favourite is on favorite in the jim dandy and and Lucas i think wayne had had two horses and he won the won the race and I forget the other one's name but anyway went back to the barn. He had a problem with his knee. And by then we did have our own training center and And we sent him down tim. Jones was a tremendous horsemen. And you don't work for billy martin and He's won the kind of took care of cigar and he ran ran the training center and then he got him back after several months and he went on to bob and he had a pet had a good year as a lateness. For your year at that. you know. Now you're now you're just looking to build a resume and What what really is amazing. Jonah when you look through these assignments he you know. He really moved smoothly through. You know all these distances. We mentioned the carter at seven eighths the hollywood gold cup at a mile and a quarter Bob wasn't wasn't afraid to ship them around and You know the two. it's funny the met. i don't know what it was but You know the met didn't go. It didn't go well at all i. I don't know how much of that was was wet. Track i mean was was that consideration. I win yeah. I think Gary stevens wrote him they were i think. Frankly miscommunication there. With the in bob or something i. I'm not sure exactly but That that was a huge disappointment. Because we had you know won the one the carter and and and we thought we were in good shape win to win that and it was just one of those one of those days and but he he he He came back. He came back after that and And then we we finished up within. I'm trying to get my have anything in front of the goal freshening. He got sixty days. We got we. That's exactly right been we. Didn't we won that and Which which was really meant a lot to him because at showed people he could could win at a mile and a quarter and then The I'll never forget what bobby frankel said to me. In in in the breeders cup classic. I believe it was that year santa anita We had beaten. I think pleasantly perfect every time we run against him and I've never forget after the race. Bob us ed. Medaglia diori there and bobby also trained for server side and he said to me a few days after that he said you know john if if if we had been in the been in the race you guys are going to win it and and if if it's if you hadn't been we're gonna win it goes eight. They hooked up and probably ran hitting here for probably close to you. Know seven eighths of a mile now after After the gold cup just got nipped by perfect drift. One of the one of the rare times where where we're drift was willing to put his nose in front right at the wire and you mentioned pleasantly perfect of course in the in the classic but then he came back after the classic to you know to win another cigar mile and in fact we've got that race we're gonna listen to it To you know to appreciate This was a this was a powerhouse performance to ended up being his last career win right because he you know and and and actually before we listened to this talk about that for a second because rather than make arrangements and send them to start he did come back and try the san antonio and then the churchill downs handicap. The seven eighths race. We were going to bring you back. We thought we just read the mcnair. They just love the horse so much as long as he was sound and everything They really was. It was a super thrill for them. Or anybody really that it has is has a horse like congo. Ray you you want to see them. Run and And So we we thought about retiring but They they say. Look if you see if he's still happy and he sound us. Let's try mississippi bureau. So that's what's happening. They ran in that race Bob was getting together that the churchill downs races on ebay isn't it was derby weekend in Spice town one. I think he did the absolutely did. And yeah gordon and outstanding horse and congress so that was the end of the road their source racing really a brilliant career. Twelve wins twenty starts to seconds for thirds and really acquitted himself in every assignment even even when he tried the turf In that That oak tree mile. He didn't run badly. got beat three lancs but You he seemed to handle it. And in fact the maiden breaker. I had forgotten this john before. I pulled up the career. I'd forgotten that he broke his maiden in an off the turf event. Yeah yeah that's right. Santa anita wasn't it was absolutely absolutely. That came out. I if i'm not mistaken he. He broke his maiden There and and then and then he ended up Run in run in the ended up up there and then he came back in one one as a wanna lance race. Any that i think that was the same day that point given one. I'm not sure if he's if it were felipe or what he wants. Something that they that goes. Didn't he run. Run in the santa anita derby or not absolutely absolutely. Yeah they they they were saying. Yeah that's exactly right they were. They were saving mates and then In fact point given i believe was the favourite for the derby berkshire absolutely and well. You know if if it wasn't from an arcos is remarkable. Effort i i. It could have been a situation. You know that The way that we would have talked about for years later about baffert's other horse because You know it was and you know. Nobody really realized that at the time but you know he was baffled with struggling with off on on on point given that bothered him really all year but Now john connery for whatever reason. And i suppose you know because people are so focused on three-year-old accomplishments he. He deserves way more appreciation than than he seems to get When discussion of the era You know the. I call it the first decade or the last twenty five years however people talk about horses. He absolutely deserves Mentioned as one of the best Horses of his generation. Well that's also kind of you. We we really think so and some professional like you can really can really see that. And i totally agree with you. He he showed up. I'll tell you one nine. You put him in right. That's what bob loved about him. He he he he would show up any any was a neat thing about him. He was such a kind horse in front or simply around. He had a really grill personality. And i'll tell you another fun you have just sort. You'll get a kick out this. Bob looks was already up in new york Be with bob for a couple of days by talking about Bob baffert and In bob mcnair had a group of guys. Playing golf club was a member of calapan valley and and so they come over to to the race. And we're all there and when we go back to go. This is ac- art so that that was two thousand and one he didn't start playing. They didn't the texans. Sit and start playing football until the next year. Two thousand and two and he says One of his friends a fellow named john barber. he's really a funny guy. And he bob's fading my head some peppermint for him to give congress and he's fading wrist and john says bother tell you one thing. When when that wide receiver catches the touchdown pass to get in the playoffs. He's gone along heck of a lot more than a peppermint fair. That's a fair assessment. Would bob bob. You're right about that. John i love it. We're gonna listen. John ashes with us And of course. Jon managed the operation for the mcnair and The just amazing success the success of of stone her side. i mean it seemed for that period That the white jacket with the with the with the green street and that stripe sort of a chevron ron and just became so familiar. I was one of my favorites Right right away. When i was in immersed getting immersed into the game We're going to listen to the second cigar mile win and one thing that was fun about this. Was the voice that you're going to hear because this goes back to two thousand and three and john brielle was Had already started. The you know the winter season and i when i pulled up the audio i. I was surprised not to hear tom durkin. Sometimes durkan would would would hang around After breeders cup but this is john embryo. Now calling congress second cigar mile win jerry bailey aboard. Let's listen in the cigar mile. Well fancied out for the lead. The well fancied in front early as they race up shoot. Hungary broke well inbetween. Horses down on the inside is a minus is on the outside. It's talkative and bowman's band and new york kiro a tightly packed bunch as they move up. The max drag. Well fancy leads by. I had minus size at the rail and congressman between the opening quarter in twenty. Two and four fifth seconds midas is has now taken over by three quarters of connery and well fancied apart second and third with chocolate racing in fourth bowman's band outside and it's voodoo in new york hero is leads by a half length is congress gets a bit closer. The opening half mile forty four and two around the far turn minus is in front congo. Re second talk. It is moving up on the outside of well fancied then it's a bowman's band followed by voodoo and new york and they're coming for the quarter pole it's still a midas is on the on the inside the left handed whip hungary on the outside conquer any now puts his head in front midas. Is battles back three quarters. One eight three tonkery in front now by three quarters of an i might as is in second farther back. The cockpits outcome is getting clear. Kaeserei gotta make it two years in a row winning this gar mile. And what a day for jerry about a. He's won all three stakes winner. Here that certainly made my day. I'd say listen to that. And what a horse. So this was this was a huge performance and he people forget john that that he was. He was a champion sprinter. I it just one of those horses that that really could do a lot of different things right now. He he. He really was. He was a super talent. And you know you just He know if you're lucky enough to be in the game and get and you've got to like bobby near says what we try to do is still recite his position ourselves. So lucca run over us. Sure and we sure did thanks. Thanks to him. I give give all the credit to my boss. I'll tell you well The mcnair were Immediately you know they. They burned the comet On of sorts. Right john into the game. What's now they did. Wi-with kind kind of a comment. I mean how how how many years how many years from the time that we started. It was it was just shy of fifteen years. We started You'd have to say the first horse we bought was in january of of believers in towards the end of january of one thousand nine hundred ninety four and we closed the deal with shaykh muhammad on october. The six for October of two thousand eight and what really wanted. What i'm most proud of is a big believer of good deal when is good for both parties and And shaykh muhammad. That had been a and true. John ferguson had had been just a great backer of of of Stoler side when he sold lots lots of horses over the years and but but What i was most proud of was that three weeks after they wired the funds the The two two of the horses that we just were in the package to one was Was ravens. Who won the classic with john gosden training and the other one was made midshipman that bob baffert trained who won the juvenile and book was both of them became champions absolutely so they benefited and they continue to benefit In fact and dimension the likes of midshipmen and the broodmares you know you still see plenty of them and and then Bob and janice got to enjoy and you and the rest of the team. We should at bobby spalding as well. Absolutely you know now. Running the operation for jane lion and and then a lot of Viki van camp and a lot of people that work for But they all had a job with dr guess called darlie back iran and godolphin and So so we're we're proud. I i tell people. I said Day in pride to you and jimmy bell who run godolphin I say outside of you you guys. I'm your biggest cheerleader. I love i love love. Seeing those those all sonar side families still perking up there for him. Well john i wasn't going to let Congress passing go without a visit. And i i appreciate it very do this. And i'll tell janice mcnair. Today's had this conversation. And and what. You should be so pleased. John agile everybody. Stone inside the legacy and kandari twenty two and anybody that saw him run Live or in person or on them. you always got your money's worth john be well best wishes for the holidays and Of of a healthy happy new year. Okay same to you. thank you very much. They really appreciate it. Thank you our pleasure. Here we go. John and standing by we've got about a little under fifteen to close out and we started the morning talking about connery and and dick allen and close out talking about connery. And dick allan dick girardi. Nice enough to join us in philadelphia and Even though the gallon predated Dick sports writing in in philly certainly cast a long shadow. And then of course you fold in Deck and his brother hank and the racing experience and you know lots the appreciate dick morning. Good morning speech deca i. I think i was pretty pointed. Actually opening the show talking about the dick allen and you know who. Obviously when i was a kid was a tremendous tremendous star and then i not that i got to know him but i gotta talk to him once and i would send him pictures from pimlico when i was covering um you know preakness and send pictures of his brother. And their horses sparrow wand and northern wolf. and he would always text me back and a fascinating athlete. And that was not an easy person to Understand not an easy person to pigeonhole and probably suffered a because of it. yeah. I don't think there's any dad i mean look i've talka- some over portrayed friends of mine unfortunately passed away told me stories about the time with the phillies The rookie year in sixty four. And you know an mvp later for the white sox and certainly one of the great players of his era and his brother. Hank little bit steve. As you know. I grew up in baltimore maryland. Track way before. I ever came to philly new hack when he was a traitor. Good dude guy to hang out with. And i certainly saw take a number of times a different race tracks that he was from walk. 'em pa which is fifty miles or so. Outside of pittsburgh with man he and his family they loved the track and as a lower taxes back and forth as they baseball player from the mid sixty s to the mid seventies. Dick was one of the great stars of four He was younger than like act. Aaron and frank robinson willie. Mays roberto clemente. They'd preceded in but in that decade. He was every bit as good as they were and they were among the greatest players in the history of the sport yet for some unknown reason. He is not yet in baseball hall of fame. And it's just a tremendous oversight. Because clearly should. I made the point that you know the the racetrack and so many Horse players and fans and and people around the game. I saw just in the last twenty four hours. It's not even twenty four hours yet. About how many people. Who said i used to see him at delaware park. I saw us to see him at laurel. I'd see at Philly and you know the the racetrack Seemingly a much more comfortable setting you know for him The legacy and there's so much that's being written and i i know there's going to be more dick. The the problem we have is that i don't sense that there's a sports writers around that can kind of revisit. What might have been their own misreading and misunderstanding of him. If you go back to the sixties and you know his resentment of being called you know quite frankly. A boy's name. And and i i basically invoked the word you know from that era where people viewed him as uppity which is about as as disgusting and condescending and i think that that that contributed mightily to the fact that that he was excluded from one vote after another the baseball writers. And i think you're right Look obviously i wasn't around. I didn't get to see him play But i think that's exactly right The terms to use work discussing in every way. I think it was a victim of the times He was a shy guy but anybody actually took the time to get to know him and again. I didn't but i know people that did they love. I mean he was just a wonderful. I listen to some of the teammates played with them. Mike schmidt said he's like his favorite team ever. Allan came like wait in his career. Early in my career steve stone. I saw was on twitter yesterday. That the great pitchers that longtime broadcaster in chicago talk about what a great teammate. he was. Who's gossip said. He's the best player ever played with and think about who. Who's got with great yankee teams. So yeah it's really unfortunate. he was just. It was just the times it was the mid sixties and the world was changing The civil rights act came about and people just and it's really sad in a way because there's so many people that didn't understand the good news. Is this story has gotten out over time But hopefully what will happen. He's now in the veterans committee. Obviously at the hall of fame. And hopefully someday i won't be sports thing because it'll be a group of people all ballplayers and i'm not sure who's on that committee but certainly for his family and the people certainly philadelphia chicago watch. The play would love to say a man and and for a guy. And you're right. I like to. I can't count how many times i saw various race tracks through the years. I think i probably went up and talked to him but it's not a i don't have a great memory but my all mcafee was incredibly approachable and loved the track and who among us to the racetrack can't be a great person exactly and you know you mentioned the you know this. This group that meets every five years Now a part of the haul. It just so happens. That i saw i. I subscribe to the inquire online and there was literally four days ago. Five th must have been friday or or or thursday. There was a piece by matt. Breen sent you the link. Matt breen wrote a an amazing piece on on allen's interests and There's a guy in philadelphia. They've got these visu those video Billboards that have been running and They they were basically trying to create some momentum against that committee and now they're saying the committee decided just i guess in recent days that they're putting off their their five-year meeting until next december now because they have to do it in person for some reason. But there's a guy by the name of marc car fag now in philadelphia that was on the veteran stadium. Grounds crew and Has been championing. Dick allen's cause for the hall and i related this deck to the situation with certain trainers and jockeys that are are are being. Put off for our paul. I mean what would it. How how do we know that. If gary gomez hadn't been put on put in on time that it might have literally saved his life for all we know it's a disagree point. Get a guy. You're talking about barker aka froggy and yeah. I think it's the people horse racing. I mean what in the world you know who was waiting to put craigslist. A whole thing. Brevity craig. And i know craig's robot voice and he's one of the all time greats but yeah for some reason. There's just some people that get overlooked. And and it's just it's i i can't explain it And there is a chance to right. The wrong for for dick allen But just the fact that the committee would meet virtually and now of course he's gone. Yeah obviously put it much better if he could have been in cooper staff when it happened and his family could have been there with them. But you know hopefully someday The it's gonna miss by one vote in the committee years ago Just unfortunate because again for baseball people and there are a lot like worse ready to be your look dumbers you look at accomplishment man you look at him on baseball reference that i knew me about it last night. It's unbelievable numbers. E put up for a long period of time. Well the the other players. Apparently that are also waiting a couple that have been gone for many years That are that are in the group that are apparently under consideration Gil hodges My god has been dead for thirty five years and minnie minoso however jim cat and more will and tony leyva. I mean compared to some of the house awry. That's been put in this stupid hall of fame for there to not be in it and the the other guy that they that they they absolutely mistreated and the arrogance that that that that held off orlando cepeda because he because he had a a marijuana a call. I i mean it's disgusting and this really bothered me yesterday. Because i i you know i felt like i had some sort of connection just because you know we followed each other on twitter and and i could. I could texting allen. He would text me back. And i just i. I told the story about when. I tried to get him on the show dick and he called me a couple of days later and i literally when i looked down and i saw dick allen. You know the phone ringing. I i was driving. I thought tina. "Little bit after ten on this wednesday in that means sire watch pedigree focus brought to you by hill down. we say good morning said fernando. Good morning curry little little punchy The said a couple of things that really kind of jumped up Particularly the passing of bernard dini. And i had charlie voting on monday. And i have to bring up. You know the the sort of not unusual. I guess but In fact it's i don't think it is that unusual that a heralded south stallion potential z goes to start the high expectations. And here it is you know would have been the tail end of his career as a stallion but still he probably had a few more seasons To go it not that not that. He hasn't been a success because he has. But i. i suppose the question to ask you to introduce the conversation to let you riff on him and his you know his career is did. He live up to expectations fully. Well you know he was A good stallion that he had you know been up. Pretty high early on But i suppose you know when you look at him as a son of apn and a clamming racing sound Champion and You know former six three million I think the. I think the stretchy telling point You know from a high of one hundred fifty had fallen thirty five Of course the career show that it's pretty illustrative of Tepid with You know five thousand with you know other stallion standing for you know two hundred fifty thousand you know. Put them in a different ballpark on together. But he was in a very accomplished dally and But the real surprise and that and the real weight of this contributions are just beginning because he became a superb riverside and that is what is he defining feature at a very young age. Louis eighteen now when he died yes That's an ex- scored. Wally young age to become as accomplished as the big merger sire. You had been in other words. He's like a very young broodmare sire with Accomplishment said suggesting he's going to be even more exemplary he's gonna add to the list of accolades is already boomer. Mayor sire his age I just looked up today Fifty three black type winners. Okay but more importantly you know bunch of group one winners including Grade one winners including for example. Actually he's going to be running in the whitney right but they also include voices Like wicked whisper g one winner selling daddy empress g one winner at paris lights curling g. One the winner motown new bread by emoji. One winter hunter riley gretzky the grades young stallion nyquist dunbar road via another liam's math catholic boy traverse when you know angel of truth by animal kingdom so i mean the the sheer volume of grade one group on winners. He's had and graded wares for the age. Make cam absolutely exemplary as broodmare sire. So what he may not have as a starring. he's more than doubled up in this little i would say absolutely outstanding. There's no doubt and and there'll be more yet. Obviously this is just the beginning of his career. Exactly and and i and i love for you in a second to riff on. I suppose you know it's the animal husbandry and the genetic codes that are involved in in any at any breed The they do this. Of course in you know with show animals but We'll come to that and the second. I thought that. Charlie brought up a fascinating aspect of this that i hadn't considered in the overall evaluation of of him. And that is that the darlie slash godolphin operation utilized a mammoth percentage of his covers. You know particularly early on and you've talked about this that in some cases it's not necessarily going to be ideal for a horse stallions commercial prospects because they're confined to the bloodlines of the organization of the outfit that is utilizing the covers. And if they don't blend if they don't if if if they're not a natural you know they don't click with with what is already in the broodmare band Then you're i don't wanna say your davao devaluing the stallion but you were. You're gonna you're making it hard for him for his intermediate commercial prospects for the for the sales team. That's out there trying to draw you outside. Mayors to him. Yeah that's a really good point and and and because it's darlie and this applies to a lot of international operations What ended up happening too. Is that perhaps a good portion of some very well bred burning dini ended up breaking your a on turf which not preferred surface to the sideline to begin with the apm desirable and so You know you don't know what might have happened. You know Raking environment play a huge role in In the success of dowie. And sometimes you find out later that perhaps those racy environment weren't optimal for that horse and in the case of Juddmonte for example with empire maker. They did the same thing. They took a lot of those empire makers with their own home bred mares to europe to race and they were not that successful okay on earth The the remainder in the united states and dirt actually ran quite well but He didn't get the full effect of that because he had so many europe right But he did well enough examples that There was interest from. Japan could pay a lot of money for that horse and he didn't do well enough for jug mark because they weren't getting the european they wanted so Empire maker was sold to japan. And here's where the story tells. Even more when empire maker went to japan with all the top way seeing you know ninety percent of all the graces of their on careful there. Even though fifty percent of the country rate is on on the art circuit and the cheaper version of racing at empire maker could not do anything over there on turf and this is why they were able to buy bringing back his environment here and of course once he got back here. He's got some great winners including some grade. One winners like eight rings for example right. So that's the rating environment. Parking go to bernardini and bernardini early on in his career had a g one winner in europe turf. Perhaps that even made the idea that you know. They might work that they did here. They did now. The positive part of the bernardini story is that a lot of those mayors. A lot of man's that garlic did have with bernardino they bred to their astounding. Sweet sense and that's becoming a looking like a really good crosses and it's early stages of maxine yielded a is an example of But you know there's a case where bernardini is going to Perhaps work quite well in that role. you know the best son of his You know he's he's had chances it said with the sorry line with some sun John or I can't remember them but you know he's got he's got some sun really have state. There's the You know they haven't really you know had traction and in that way kind of reminiscent of Kriton cya lines that fall sire the become better than desires of sires than one of those courses and of course Unbreakable song every talking about right and I'm brian and we put and bernard ganey is already week at this stage of the game. And that's saying a lot for an eighteen year old downing the the phenomenon said to to flesh out a not unusual scenario Basically a stallion getting better daughters either as runners or later as broodmares. But it it. It's obviously and secretary. It is brought up. I think most often in in modern the you know as a modern example You know where people said well secretary wasn't a great styling. No that's not fair. That's not accurate. His contribution to the breed comes differently and obviously a any breed any any animal line. So where you know. Human interaction is included a and attempts to improve the breed. You're going to get that kind of contribution because they they can all have nothing but great sons. There's got to be great daughters. Yes and and and a lot of what happens in the case of secretariat and this applies to burner dean bernardini and secretaries. Wendy stud excellent rape choices. Excellent pedigrees right. They're gonna get in their initial years at stud. Some of the pets nares on the marketplace. What is really power in the making of a good groove married fire plays a huge role. These great female family that have that have been marriage from female family. That had been bred to those downs right to secretary all the blue bloods of the breed. But brad behan family bernardini scientist start up at the top and to get the best mares and those marriage play books families behind those manners play pivotal bowl in a broodmare sire because those secretary and bernardini daughters are coming now with huge weight behind them right now contracts that the catholic was is. It's weekend of lexi. Lexi tony right edgy. One winter cap it career at blue mary. Tyler has started off lowly. And and it's getting better and you can trait that. The level of mayors that got better at he made him his own way stallion fifteen thousand dollars he was at a different altitude then burner beanie or secretary as a racehorse and as a commercial proposition has a breeding proposition. He was getting cheaper. Maher those cheaper marriage produced daughters and when they started to be bred broodmares. They weren't having the same type of success. Didn't have the big families behind now. I was saying more tap it starting to have success daughter tapping and you know why it got the bigger families behind him because he became a better stallion as it became a top stallion and established himself. He started to get the better man and He has a lag going for him. That horses like secretary bernardini. Did they got those better. Mare's beginning and had henceforth. Their daughters started the pop forces. Out right away and So that's a that's another component. So when we're looking for example at potential brood mare shires. That's one of the factors that we look in to. Where did you stay. And begin stud career and what level. And then at what point he gets good and then getting the better marriage and so we'd rather shea okay. Let's start looking at mayor some really good stallion after crop. Because that's when he started getting a better marriage rather than the first to the fourth where he was a great stallion but he made his way and he didn't have family behind it and sometimes get a bear. You want those the half the family behind you so so. That's another factor in this really complex game of very moving parts when you're analyzing you know stallion blueberry tires and whatnot it's been a part of. It's part of the mystery. The mystery of life. It's pretty funny i. It's a you watch you watch with interest than and you know. It's funny because people people latch onto horses when there on the racetrack and Then you root for them In the in the breeding shed a lot of times and I you you see people. These days they start you know. They start twitter of Feeds based on the the progeny of of whoever and It it's it's a it's a fascinating part of you know the the coda on somebody's career and you know when the news broke said friday. Jay was on with me Jay pregnant and on. I i called bernardini. Star-crossed and j. really agreed. It was funny. And then yesterday. I i asked the ruling for a reaction and i said open ended kind of thing fill in the blank where i said you know. Bernardini was and he said Bernardini is will be remembered that he said as a horse that would have been a great four year old. And so you know you. You get a sense that that is as good as he was on the racetrack and i suppose it a winning the breeders cup classic you know would have been a a obviously a glorious way to end that that three year old year what it does feel it does feel like he. He has kind of a. I don't want to call a checkered you know. But i don't want to call it a not checker. That's not the right thing. But i i started with man. I it's weird it's weird. He's the horse. I have to add that You know i guess. Date terribly dates me but I think you can check the exact day. But i figured it was at the nineteen ninety four even september yearling sale i was i was walking on grounds when when he brazilian decades and Renata gamero about because what stock came over on excited and the way his accent come shitty. It's sydney come. I have to see this silly and so we go over. It takes me over and sure enough. It says neither great filly by crying. American spread by microbes manchester farm. And its Car it's truly. That will end up being. How raphael shows philly. It's core vying for tnt. The guy who along Three chimneys farm. Right now just the guy was just story. Alba was just starting out and coronado bridge is very all brazilian when brazilian Tori by pink the year before I gone to college green with Renato i saw turrialba by young guy back then just starting out and he wanted to pellegrini with the horse called much better. That granada had picked out of a field so anyway getting back story out of shows me this. What do you think yeah. She's nine she's really nice. And then Says yeah now. I have to convince me wayne lukas so he brings wayne lukas to look at it and wayne says yeah absolutely by and so renato. They're able to get the philly phone. He's like seventy thousand dollars. She turned to macara rocky. Yellow think became. Tnt first runner of note in the united states minute tnt story had bought. The kelly met so she ran in the devils red and blue silks. Talion met at the county met farm dispersal. He actually bought the silk so he owns a silk. Anyway she ends up. You know yada yada yada and then later on she ends up being the damn bernardino and so i happened to bernardini damn as a yearling in the process of being purchased and now we're talking about bernardini death at the age of eighteen so that puts a puts a lot of things into perspective including goes by in a blink time. And you also you also provide a natural completely natural segue into the other Sire watch pettit refocus brought to you by hillsdale conversation by bringing up. Kalua met and had jackson andersen back on a. Who's really really polished. Eloquent and I was joking with them and getting him about you. Know taking a few too many clues from From doug shocks o.'neil And in his in his interaction but Talk for a second said about what you know what this means for lexa tony because the grade one win and as a son spikes down he he really stamps himself as kalua mets next marketable stallion when the when the time comes and You know for for all of the the snickering that went on when these metaphors is would show up in big spots That's over with because they're winning in these big spots and very to me it's one of the best stories in the last decade in the game is how brad kelly has refashioned calia matt and I no longer. Are you watching their horses. Saying oh i wish. They ran in the devils red and blue. Now it's the black chevrons of kalua matt and and that's fine. I don't paint the fences and the gates And they've they've re. I kind of reimagined themselves and and brad. Kelly deserves a lot of plotted and applause from the industry. Survey does and he's he's the guy on against the of doing something and you know it's so funny she circle. I mean i. I didn't know you were going to bring this up. And i just gone to. Kelly met and you segue into county met and and early on county met. It was charlie. Bono money left darlie. Went to cal matt's you know and part of the Part of the issue. At the time boise charlie johnson. A fun that was standing all the commercially viable starion farm. Where brad kelly with seemingly taking every uncommercial stallion you could possibly get and standing all sorts of oddball horses. There was a lot of snickering. Taking place about brad. Kelly on train to the game because astounding most standing just some really Stamina horses Extreme famine horses with Foreign pedigree south american pedigrees german pedigrees and some had been and so forth. But you know he he. He had a plan he stuck his gandhi. Bought a bunch of ap andy mayor. He's started off and he showed he knew what he was doing by by You know what. He did with english channel. English channel was a you know a kelly horrid lanes then originally and once he got kelly mattie came over to matt and that's where he is right now of course he started getting all these stakes winner From english channel and he bought inexpensive mayors relatively speaking and he's Bread home breads from his own. Sarrians that he's you either raise their sold. The english channels have been carrying those so should he pointed out and and now he's been breeding to some of these other stallions and commercially viable salaries. And now he's you know he's got lexi talion And you're absolutely right. This wasn't going to have tremendous commercial. Appeal he's gonna be he's gonna be next big course they're county met because he's down out of the capitol mare and g one winner and You know he follows that quite southbound rate of progression of you know winning pack winning a g. one pack the june of your teeth and for the most part Hill lyndale court has a horse mashallah. Ten who's done it beforehand. Because charles and got the victory back in the arkansas derby and of course by ten had few two year old filly that have done it as well now but for the longest time. Spike fan did not get a g one winter until past three-year-old and that maturity itself had and lexi italian learning much sound. It might sound that way. But he's also very commercial wars now and Yeah you're you're absolutely right about What you said about county met day our players you know even at thirty four to one. They're gonna have the same something and been showing it. Because that's what's amazing and and in different you know what's what's fun is different kinds of horses to the obviously The various wins in new york with through that list with the that They've granite put out on on saturday after the after the upset and jack has been involved in in the majority of them. I think three three out of five. Maybe even four out of the five But on a smaller basis some of the there was the The pat day winner. That rusty arnold had and It that's another one that's right. That's right i thought. Oh my god that's right. That's sort of it was the. Yeah that's right that's right good job. hasn't really panned out On on the science side but the year. Hot rod charlie. That's true that's true. Well don't and don't judge. Don't judge a stallion. John narrowed. Don't judge down. they'll they've had seven crops. Come on that's my i. I gotta follow that advice It's funny how our conversation Went from one to the other as usual and and it's thinner just stick it wherever it stops and picked up exactly exactly. I was just reaching for Also wanted just to reach. Because i'm curious now about lexa tony Because i did not look at the The female family tap tap it mayor and And then the rate second Second thing oh. Swap flipper rue the the chief. Now what what did they buy happen mayor for. I'm sure it was not much. Let's take a peek riviera romper Was her was her name. She made thirty six thousand. She was a one time winter. And she actually. She met barter for three hundred. Ten thousand carrying vaccine tonia their foray into a more expensive mayor into was in there and and look at the results You know that that would That would justify the price and i'm trying It was len ratio. The yeah because of there. You go the my meadow view farm and And and her production record. I'm curious about swap flip baru herself As a as as a broodmare beside This one she's actually. She's got a There's two year old classic empire Philly out there and a She's got a yearling an honor code yearling and of course her you know her background. is hobo farm and I'm how far back. Yeah jack dreyfuss how far back does The curious Yep three denver goes all the way it goes all the way back into the seventies to and then farnsworth The the florida family Molly's pleasure interesting that this is Wow this family this family goes back to you got you got Kind of a kind of a quiet middle part but you do have colonel bradley going back. There's blue larks got evening blue In one thousand nine forty one. So this is yeah this is. This is a family that Some people i say people. I think will be excited to breed to To him when the time comes to tony. Yeah i mean you know the top sire and you know charlotte is going to be hallandale. You gonna have you know. It's an interest in spike that ended. Of course money's isn't going anywhere ripping right at the whole bunch of them. You know you got you got Got a bunch of from out there right now. A few more conflicts you talked about like munnings is really you know that. Just getting better with every drop well and and not to not to try to make everything immediate but Fifteen years ago tomorrow swap flip aroo won the test. August two thousand six. That's something wow. And i know this is pretty funny. I in that field of three year old fillies. You had Yet they had some very nice ones in there any limit that may grow and mccoll. Hello liberty hello liberty One of those three phillies that That larry jones had that season with geisha. And who's the third Geisha hello liberty and there was the third We used to talk about wild. Gams was in that field diplomat. Lady capote's crown misty rosette. Original spin was second at a huge price and at actually swap peru was six to one Fellow liberty was favored. Wow wow that was my first summer. That was my first summer. I was doing the show said from the barbecue. Four to seven laura great memories. Too funny wow look at these mutuals. Exact paid five hundred and seventy two. So you got in under the six hundred seventeen thousand dollar trifecta anybody out there. I'm sure this will be the whole internet. The that had That hit swap flipper ru in the test fifty fifteen years ago tomorrow. Let's i wanna see your irs receipt on on on twitter but blackout your social security number. Two fun said this was great. I i appreciate it as always absolutely fun. That he how about a quick Before we go. How about a quick joe. Update what he hit this week. joe The real quick update for our that. He faced faces pitcher. Two point. six million dollars Pitcher did they signed out a cuban in shantou gas stone who just got a promotion to april. He headed to be. And i'll be he throws It's an all. The report throws ninety six to one zero one key. He came in and pitched three innings against joe's team and struck at everybody trick out nine guys eight. I'm sorry seven guys then. He walked two guys and hit a batter bringing joe up with two-out bases-loaded and the guy throwing ninety nine And throws the ball past job birth pitch ninety nine miles of on the board. I'm thinking oh my god this guy. She's struck the whole entire Lineup pout bases loaded two out and throws another ninety nine per pitched joe hits it up the middle to single to run to rbi single So that would a lot of fun to see that because this guy is just on super gas walk to people out there to see santa guest on pitch and i four shortly. I'm sure got some right up on that. In internal memo. Because he's the only guy that was able to hit them ending pitch sweet sweet. That's great. yeah yeah. Everybody watch pedigree focused brought to you by hill and dale and work thoroughbred consultants four nine eleven eleven five zero four nine eleven eleven and in fact As as a recent donor that of a great acre great at stake Winning filly Wanted this week reached out to me and said you know. Can you connect me with with said They're gonna they're looking at pedigrees for september and that the early the sits consult with them so avail yourself of sids career long experience and We'll talk about the sale next week. It's hard to believe it's right on top of us knew looking forward one of the really fun couple of days at saratoga and i and i will mention. I'm sure we'll come up with seth marrow to it if you've been if you're in saratoga next week and you've never gone over to the pavilion to the sales grounds. It's open to the public is. It's not it's not something you know secluded in being done Away from the public you can come on the grounds. It is a electric atmosphere. It is so much fun and you'll have a riot Cocktails and hobnobbing and just come right over. You don't have to worry. Don't worry about being under dressed. Th that's a mix of everything there's people that are you know going to be suited up and tides and whatnot and and cocktail outfits but flawed the plenty of people in shorts. And you know casual. So whether it's the celek sale. Monday and tuesday or the new york breads the following week. Either com going to push the do it and you'll see me once you do it. You'll you'll wanna come every year that's One of the favorite things. I hear in the background. I think bill downs is waiting in the wings morning. How are you. I'm doing good didn't why why would you you've got you know it's funny Following following your twitter feats It's well it's one thing watching you. You know the give and take about Racing at indiana. But when when you're not when you're not handling those assignments the rest of the week. You know friday saturday sunday. You're you're firing away because it's obvious that you're you know you're watching grace's from all over the place and and you're betting and so that that Those are bonafides bill. Yeah that's that's that's my twitter feed. I guess we'll play you this. I've been becoming a fan The the from woodbine and then following that a lot of that so you'll probably start to see some and that and they work. It works perfectly for for me. 'cause they raised their rates three or four days. That are three days that we don't raise so It's a it's a. It's a good thing if i'm going to want to watch stuff Live and all that Watching the woodbine stuff there. You go throw that out there just as a as a random tidbit. No i the the racing advance this weekend. Actually particularly with the with the stakes action As a start to arc toward toward plate day But yeah A and plus the fact that they had so many horses stacked up waiting and waiting and waiting to run Because of the delays to get going and so the fields have been great. The same can be said. Of course of of indiana and i Yesterday bill. I don't know if you had a chance to listen because you're getting ready for your own broadcast day. But i went through that monday card. And as you and. I discuss it whatever we handicap these pick five sequences the the more beaten favorites. Obviously that you know that are part of a sequence the greater the exponential payout is and monday what was interesting was there was no twenty five one shots. I it was all middle priced long shots and and even you know some five to two type You know second choice winners but six one eight two one five. Two two six to one am i. Think seven to one two winners of fifteen thousand seven hundred and eighty each and even the pick for paid close to one thousand yep and just show even when the fields or not You know eleven eleven ten ten and twelve. There's still possibilities out there especially when you're talking about our pick five because we got the low takeout on eleven point nine nine percents which makes it one of the lowest in north america and the tabet That should be at least considered each and every day i would. I would recommend now and there are days. Let's you know. Obviously there's days where things are very formal and you know you get a modest return but when you anybody is looking at these These cards when you go through it and you get a sense that there's one two three races that are not you know where there isn't a most likely and a logical that the couple of logical types where you know when you build your tickets. You're going to be narrow when you sense that those are the that's the sequence to play because those are coming back. You know boxcars You know yesterday. it's funny yesterday was It was a sequence bill. That was interesting because you had very very formidable and then you had that one. Thirty dollar winner The the antonio durant in the seven that being vetoed and moore's Love very nice And that was enough with four logical 's to push the payout to eighteen hundred exactly so You know today's the the. There's a couple of horses that look like they're logical favorites but there's a couple of favorites that i that i be playing against the left and right so we'll see how it plays out today. Well and of course in addition to you know the greater sequence. There's the two stakes today and we do it. We could do a two different ways. We could either Talk about the stakes Or we can just you know what. Let's go through the sequence and The stakes of the last two legs of the vibe. Yeah so the fourth race is starting allowance as in mayors. You gotta surfer five thousand or less than your last five starts. I kind of liked this condition. 'cause it's not like you get The the career starter allowance sources who have eligibility for like two years or stuff like that and you gotta start it for five thousand watts last five and there's a favorite here. I don't know what to do. And i've probably i'd be playing against her. And that's the five key raf. Sarah ran her career-best beach vile long march and but she never seems to run two races in a row. Now yes she has been off since mid may but that adds to the question marks as well You know she. She occasionally does run while fresh. but she's she's a A balloon or bust Type type of mayor in her in her career. So i think we could We could probably try and beat her. You know the second choice certainly fits. Death needs darling was on quite a roll down at in cincinnati. Lost last time out is the big. Favourite rewards is certainly interesting. First off the claim for ethan west who does pretty darn good with first off the claim numbers sitting about eighteen percent. She lost a bet ya Came back out of that race in june the eighth and came back and win once again and she'll be right behind the speed and clear steps in the outside. We'll make sure that keith. Sarah sarah is going to get a at least some early Looks And not won't get a free pass on the front end so this is the race where i think i'm trying to find the stockers mid packers and my dark secret is is one can be thrown in there as well so that's the race that I don't think i'm gonna these singling in But i'm gonna try and beat case aroused arrive in that fourth race. And i'm i'm kind of poking through this a little bit and i I like have nothing to add to this to be honest. Take that as a compliment. Or i i don't i mean i i just i didn't. I didn't find this at all. I've i just got the pcp's and I didn't i didn't do all the numbers and and Deep dive so just kind of surveying food and you you really outline case arrive perfectly But but you know she is when you see those when you see those. Those brake lines That's obviously at ouchi. Obviously out she type When when yours is off for those you know those kinds of breaks but she does run well fresh and and has run well fresh and i. It certainly notable when you you look at that. That june eighth bullet forty-six thousand four and and then even after even after a bullet in june it. She still didn't go and run for three weeks but when she did in that starter. Allowance that eight thousand starter allowance. She ran in a race and she won And then you look at the august second it just you know just what Two days ago and she fires a thirty five and four three eighths and so she she signaling readiness. I i it's a it's a very. It's a very tricky call. She feels like a horse that if she runs her a race The wins period. And the i suppose bill one issue with her is that a clear steps is is going to provide pressure and She has run best than one. We had a when she's wire that's her that's her mo so i if she's a your you out perfectly. I she's a she's a it has to be respected. But she's she's not invincible. Guy i i suppose you watch the board and see See how heavily she gets. She gets pounded yup. I would've probably agree Though i'm still you know she doesn't get pounded then then. I'm really going to be worried because she freaked in the last race and yeah on top of it. It was on a wet track. And we're going to be dry today as well so That's also another factor to consider fair enough the fifth we got a nickel claimer seven and a half on the turf. Yeah gotta scratch the one irish. Salo dirty dixie road pulled off a huge upset on july. Twenty second is facing a lot of the same phillies mayors are against marriage. The most parts that she defeated on july twenty second The eight horse magnet g. force. I think it's interesting looker. record on on dirt. Oh fourteen now no second-place finishes and she finished fourth the dirt race last time out by the was against she had stumbled star and then she was facing better. I even that allowance optional claiming race. I would consider a little bit better Slightly better than a five claimer But she's done all her damage on all weather but She stretching out but she's one can throw in their area and ray Initial officer dixie road. Last time out she was dead last in that race. And that was rates dirty. Dixie road Was on the front end. And then next time out She was much closer to the early pace and it was a tougher race much raise and she was. She was their right to the end. Now it's is the field of six but man of laura and and the other one the ah philly who From the greenwich barn. And tally is and that's what it is Those are those are really good horse though sources that they would be out you know they would be in a race like this. It'd be three to five in this race. So i thought that that that mayor Ran a heck of a lot better than she did in the against dirty. Dixie rose so probably Threes and eight for me but You know seductive can be used. I think because she fit to the five thousand dollars level she ran off the layoff last time out. She didn't run that well i. She's better than that. And i think that's it. She could improve as well and a price. So dixie road. I don't i wouldn't be as hard a on on her. As i would be on the previous favourite but at the same time you you're not getting forty one to one or whatever she was last time out. I made the coast second choice and that raised at seven and two and she's got speed and she's got an inside post so that there some things there that are going in her favor once again. Stay dirty dixie road and and aryan rate. You know who's a big price in here at least on the board and who who has races going back to last fall that are that are competitive. Second off the layoff or kim hammond. Air turbulence is twenty two one and you go back to last august. September and those races are competitive. Here i i. I mean i understand why she's twenty two one off of you know the these two limited starts as a seven-year-old but You know here. She is and and you know it's funny. I happened to happen to know this family. This is now joy The burns family of of of Smooth air fame and They bred the cubs. Fan has been. I think pretty. I think it's been pretty productive. I i'm gonna find a way to To work air turbulence and bill at a price maybe a reverse tricky with the you know with the logical up top but second off the layoff. which is a profitable angle. Kim hamid. I'm i'm interested once again the race that i'm not singling in pick five tickets. So that's the race that Agents maybe getting a little a little off the board if you will and try something A little crazy there and air turbulence would certainly she's trying to find Her pass form there. You go all right next leg before the stakes we go to the sex. This is A maiden group and Seven and a half. Yeah i i have nothing against the favored. I made the favorites of senate purple dream follow. Who finished second in a turf sprint. At churchill starts ago kind of ran a little bit disappointing last time on it. She's going to ground once again. She had one tur- proud when she finished. Fifth or seventh. Excuse me beaten five lengths. But it was pretty fast paced and she kind of made a middle move into some pretty fast fractions. She sits here at indiana grand. But you know i. I'm not going to be singling her. Let's put it that way up freer on the outside might be my choice that ran into raytheon dirt at alison's life seventeenth throw line through that rates. All she had a troubled start like a double throw line through the race Looking at the race in mammoth though in which shaves the pace and finished fifth. And i think finishing fifth and mom fits very well here in a maiden race at indiana grand so my he would be on my ticket no matter what My miracle man. I watched that race back. He kinda got a little bit out of position and then lost the the jockey there Now is going around of ground and trying turf for the first time and you know by union rags that of a streetcar and mayor. The damn hasn't produced any turf winters. Union rags not really known for turf forces. But you know until they try. I don't like downgrading horses too much and then after that tropical tornadoes. I think interesting. A big post switch from the outside to the two more towards the inside and that race meeting claiming race on july six was not that bad. I know at least a one horse is one out of that race and so tropical tornado. Probably be my my price shot. But i probably go through here and my top choice. But you know tropical tornado as well. You know. I think it's is nothing against purple dream but he's not a single for me either purple dream that race to back is strong in here and Absolutely agree about tropical tornado with These two back to back performances. Kind of interesting That ethan west dipped him down into thirty five company and kinda ran pretty much ran the same race so puts them right back up In maiden special weight foes. And i. I unless there's you know unless there's something new and different you know coming from. The lightly raced types deep. Mind that moving to the turf. Gotta do a little pedigree work on city wolf and dr caitlyn the broodmare sire i suppose and even yeah freer vicky oliver this one over for jackpot farm from pletcher and that race over the winter behind monk quad. Wow back both of those races. That race. In june monmouth. Both of those races were good enough to win. You know to to graduate. So this is this is not. This is not a a an ugly. You know desperate hungry bunch There's some there's some horses here that could go onto decent careers And here's the city wolf city will over sixteen now with i turf irs and overall just a three percent Just i think Looks like two wins From sixteen courses ever on turf so limited very limited you know only twenty. Two runners period for city wealth but Despite the being asana giant's causeway is not getting turnovers. And i i think you. I guess you can keep it simple all right. Let's turn to the snakes. Well have governor. Steak is seven and this might be popular singled. A lot of people tend to agree with them. I hate doing that but The four hard-luck justice for lining hind wonder. Who's you bring your sophomore stinks winner allowance race against the older last time out both races. Just absolutely crushed. The competition they ended blinkers to starts ago and it seems to have Agreed with hard-luck justice who has one on the lead in the one from a little bit off the pace in probably wants to be a little bit off the taste because nobody listens is a saul for marvin johnson. They're taking the blinkers off today. And i thought that was interesting. You know he ran all right in the snack stakes after You know kinda just having his own way doing his own thing. And the who's your breeder sophomore stakes where he lost the hard life just to go and then fade into lane and at least a little bit better last time out on turf in terms of Being able to show some stamina going around the ground and he'll be on the front end again but hard-luck justice not showing anything in terms of slowing down as it yet he does come back. What in a couple of weeks year Now i guess me the only real question mark with our justice sammy bermudez. Who is having a terrific meets is backup board again and You know he's the one that beats and after that you know. I you know it's like even hard. Justice runs a be if you will not raise like he has last couple. I don't think he's keeps got cook. Chance of winning this race You know as a steal. Maybe but he coming out of all sorts of sprint race. It style took them a while to figure things out in at least what he did. Last time out. He showed that his maiden race. It's not a fluke but He's going around ground for the first time. And that's that's a question but at least an inside post so they won't be stuck there out and four a wider on the first. Turn anything like that but For me that you know unfortunately I gotta go with the favourite harlem justice on him four to five in the morning line. And i think that he'll be every bit of that If not a little bit lower in the morning line and in. That's what i think about the governor. Stay well and and you're you know you got you got all the principles Dead on The four to five shot with justice and the nobody listens going turf. The dirt And clearly marvin. Johnson wants them to relax the he's competitive. And then the other horse is azzaro. Steal a closing sprinter stretching out. He certainly bread between strong mandate and the malibu moon mayor. He's bread to go longer and style wise finished closing sprinters to turns isn't always a great formula But he's he's kind of in here and Kind of an interesting an interesting option And there there there is clear speed to be for him to chase I would think that he's you know tucked in right behind the speed under under prescott and we'll see what see what bermuda's does I i i don't think it benefits hard-luck justice that go with these you know with the with the two or three horses that might end up setting the pace and i haven't even mentioned Lowers got that royal icing. Who probably wants to show some speed from the outside at least to gain position and not to get hung wide Into the turn. I mean that's that race starts you know pretty close to the turn so The the pace could pace could get a little Could get a little little tricky in here. But those are the three hard-luck justice nobody listens. And his steel takes us to first lady also a mile and seventy For the phillies and mayors. And what's interesting about this group. Is you got quite a few horses that have been turfing and Are are either coming back to the the dirt or are simply going Turf the dirt. And it's going to complicate anything but Certainly courses like russian influence Will you made three to one. And and pearl tiara. I mean they. They're the clear. Conversation starters Pro theodora Linda the reader software sinks in june. Twenty third indiana grand Stock the early pace took over the lead and never looked back after that but early face in that race was not fast all mile. Sixteen twenty five forty. Nine of fifth at is a crawling for a three year old filly stakes race Protein doesn't have to have the lean. And i think that's important because this race i think is going to have a little bit more early taste than what happened. And then who's your reader sophomore stakes russian influence one of three in here. Thanks for tony. Granted winner of the miss indiana steak. So at the end of last season but not raced in two thousand twenty one. So that's the long layoff factor against a phillies that have been racing and embracing multiple times this year. So that's that's a huge A dilemma to to to take a look at with russian but she was outstanding last time. We saw her in mid-november indiana steaks. And i start going around two turns Thunderstruck very talented Daughter of mcleans music will one Last time out a maiden race and did show Very stylishly She's going to be a part of the early piece scenario. But the the one i like the most is the one horse diamond solitaire. Diamond solitaire does have a win. This year and entry level allowance race ran the lucky star. Which do justice who's who's in today's races well Wind from gates of wire in front and made a little bit of a middle move. But you take a look at diamond solitaire. She likes to come from update off the base. And i think she gets a paced today for the first time in two thousand twenty one legitimate early pace to run at all races this year. They've been they've been slowed to casual early faces. And i think she's gonna get an absolute wonderful wonderful early face. Run out today. I like her a lot and she's going to be my my best bet today. You watch the wire-to-wire show that. I do every day before the first race. So there's your previews air diamond solitaire. I i'm all about her She had blinkers three starts ago and that seemed to focus her and she finished second tier but there is no pace at all and like i said broke. Yard can still win. She if she can settle and doesn't battled for the lead. I think she needs to be in a stalking trip. but Diamond solitaire. nine to two. And that's that's the philly. I like the most in the age race. And it's probably a good thing. Because every time i pick against her a diamond solitaire partnership comes out and drove and last time i picked against her. They all so hard. I can't do now today. they're gonna take. They might start cheering. You might be able to hear it. on the microphone so simon solitaire me. A lot of respect for pearl tiara. Three for trinity shop. That's funny At the there there's a horse that has got that's got talent and from a from a numbers standpoint speed standpoint fettes if she can successfully carry her speed that's very amelia and how she scratched. Okay know all right. Well then she's not going to She's not gonna prompt. The pace there is. There is plenty of pace bill the to set diamond solitaire up. Yeah get this is the. this is the setup. I've been waiting for her. 'cause i always thought she had. She had talents and she. You know she's done all right so last couple of days after that nice win but Like i said it's all about sometimes it's about the right setup and i think today's the right setup Whether or not she'll be good enough remains to be seen but feels get a lot bigger price on her. You will on protein probiotic meet her favorite. I think it's a pretty deep raised. But i can see people gravitating towards towards her for sure. It's well diamonds and pearls. Keep it keep it simple Our theme marsin morning talk about that. One that we've been. They worked at worked at into the call. Oh that'd be a lot of fun. Gosh now i have to give you a royalty on money how i love it. I love it well. Bell good to connect and catch up. racing continues to be terrific Businesses good and Ah monday through thursday. I mean you know what that. That's a nice. That's a nice luxury. It's a luxury that those of some of us in the eastwood i think like to to be able to run at that level On on the grass. There's that they won't go down that low and on the turf. And actually. I also want now that i because i brought it up to from that race I want to check these specific. I mentioned Brian burns and smooth air. When i the minute i saw cubs fan and And mountjoy she had. She had a good Shed a nice source. The by english channel speaking of speaking of calcium earlier cubs win was was a nice very successful six-figure earner five time winner But over the years The burns family have had a lot of nice. They've had a lot of nice Horses and smooth air the most high profile but they've had others and well d- in fact their cubs fans damn Jamie's koko pop Koko pop has to be By the names jimmy. And that's what's happening Without talking to you because in addition to the colonial winters on monday we had that crazy kaiser and For now we've got a very good allowance today. Give us a quick summary. I've never heard it called the crazy. Connor but i think i think that's a song from a mel brooks movie. I've seen a lot in my career. I don't think i've ever seen in saratoga moon queen throwing away by jan and losing the jockey and the lane but unbelievable. She's the jockeys fine and and the mayor is fine. And she's coming back for the great one. Jonathan shepard on the eighteenth so it's so good it'll be an interesting race in fact Because anybody watch the race knew that she's clearly dominated that group and no reason she couldn't jump into the grade one division now putting off getting back to today's race. It's it's it's it's not too far off but we have a nice field of non-owners to seven horsfield and the very race Very interesting race. My frankly a couple of horses that have been highly touted. The born perfect patino. Newgen leslie young or that With a new group called leaper spokespeople chasers out of moscow syndicate. They put together. They're they're very high on the horse Very happy with the way he's been training and was very exciting. winner at colonial on July can't remember the day but the nineteenth against out ritzy. Ap with this hot young jockey harrison beslic. He just want to raise the colonial on monday But i think he'll march trained for says he's by english. Channels is a horse. Very rare for people chasing normally role geldings. But this is a horse by english channel. It's got some very nice to. He's one quarter of million dollars or more but i was I was with neil mars yesterday morning in today. And it's really like source beautiful demeanor and He's very talented particularly in this configuration. The colonial configuration similar to saratoga. Whether jump last down the backside and and then they run the five eighths of mild to the wire so the platform clearly should help him As it probably will help. Perfect heff patino so Clearly the i think the to stand out the other interesting horses this English import that. Todd why does run a whole lot of which is up here. But he's an excellent horseman. A maryland former assistant to tom goes without destination Kind of somewhat inexperienced. But he wanted. I calling in. Us and He did it nicely. And it's been training while that was back in that was in the spring middlebrook So i i really liked the feel that we put together here It's rare that you're not talking about jack fischer he'll probably win this one. We're not talking about him but he's got lemonade. Thursday for that river the stable that's sean clancy syndicate And you know it's it's coming out of pitchers born. I don't know if you noticed. Last night fisher won a maiden special at colonial fifty thousand eight special with a jumper called prayer. Hope i it was it. Was the price horse for sure. I saw him at the barn this morning. I thanked them for giving me a tip on horseback kind That was true. That's of course that will probably come to saratoga. On the last jump race we have a other than His name is prayer hopi in he ran very nicely in a maiden special a colonial last night yesterday afternoon actually But just you're getting elected to the inducted into the hall of fame on yes Might be appropriate if he wins windsor race today lemonade. Thursday says and then you can't don't we haven't had many conversations lately not talking about jerry brown and she's got a pair character named and where she says she's embarrassed by the name but kerry fine. I close friend. Bread called schatzer on Very fond of around the barn. I know they think he's got quite a bit of talent but The other one that's got talent is is on taking over. Jonathan sheppard He's done a miraculous job. and It's got a very very bright future ahead of her. There's no doubt we talked to where Last week which was fun after Yeah i guess it was last week and after the smethwick win and You when it comes to this field i mean. There's there's two. There's two things on display here that i reach for and because there's so much speed involved And the flat. You know the chasers on the flat Appear looking at that buyers for the horses that know are coming from regular flat racing and you see limit thursday and ritzy. ap They both they both were fast. And you're talking about when it comes to. Ap you're talking about a horse that was kind of a mylar that was running mid ninety fires and and high eighty buyers and the lemonade thursday. Similar those are figures. That are you know on the page bell and they they are both To me i mean those are strong numbers that that fit in here and You know horses like lesley's silver crescent even off the maiden win and and without destination. They haven't they haven't faced horses with this kind of speech. So i i i when you say this is a this is a maybe the best betting race so far at the meat Yeah when you agree with everything you said it goes back to that. Point is the steeplechase racing in america. And then there's this stuff that we do at the racetrack not only saratoga but colonial as well. Now where it's it's it's a steeple flat race also described But it's it's fun to watch too because there's a lot of strategy involved i mean normally are are steeplechase jockeys. Were not ask a voice until they approach the last or or just over the last you know and then you sprint in from there. It's a very strategic move. You have to make jump the last time the backside and and you have to number one establish a good position on on the final turn and and and kick at the right time and get the burst of speed and they run right through the wings. They moved the fences out of the way. We've finished on the outside of the course. But it's a it's it's a real riders race appear at saratoga. And if you've got the horse under you got the power you step on gas pedal. Hopefully there's something there and and the ones that buyers numbers like that clearly horses that you have to pay attention to well and bill before we wrap The of course the race starts the car to one zero five a A quick thought about the two races on monday west newton for richard hendrix and upland flats and donor Owner john lewis and it should be noted by the way West newton When when people get a chance. I suppose we're going to see him up at At saratoga this kitten's joy gelding Always nice to see on the breeding line the queen. That's but that's true. Yeah now let the other good thing about those to wonder. It's monday You know ricky hendrick suits Had an off year last year is I think he's an excellent trainer. Trained only find and Was which of elite. Go but Ricky does a fine job. It's good to see him win that race He's going to bring that up. both corpse. guy is trained by At the nielsen and Both of those horses are actually coming up on the last number one two. We have appear so we'll see them built. It's good to see those colonial horses advance up to saratoga to A couple of new names. So let's her name's right now ricky henriksen and kathy nielsen So we're excited to see those horses and were excited about today's rights. The weather held out So we're doing great excellent excellent bell. I didn't want the day to get away without Conversation right everybody go watch. Jack fischer then inducted into the hall of fame on friday too. Big day for him. It's big day for steeplechase absolutely and We'll probably get Probably get to jack. Maybe maybe we'll get to jack tomorrow if i can worrisome He's he's not. Take some course in these right. Yeah it'd better let me call them. And i'll get a couple of quotes and not and then you can call me. He's been he's been good with me i when he comes on the he'd likes you know he he he knows i love the chasing so i it it once you once you get them started he break the ice and that's all it is got to get around any great. They'll gallo everybody jumping with an essay on twitter and the all the action Everything you need to know at national steeplechase dot com well and we'll look forward to the opener today Not far away now. They'll i'll see out there. Everybody bill gallo everybody and we'll Actually we're we're on the bottom side of the the our kirk white is gonna join us and we're gonna talk to kirk about winning himself a John deere x three thirty. He was the winner the vic. Five and seth mero who as i mentioned san. Seth just got back to me said i'm done. He's done at the museum so Before we get off the air we will Get a couple of opinions on today's card From south as well right so there's There's the last Last segments of this rather It's slightly flip if slightly. I don't want to scotland them. I don't wanna call a frivolous that. That's what i was going for. But it was kind of a funny It's been a funny morning. Let's say that when when we when they approached me from anti ira. Yeah they got the the the buyer advantage program and get up for farm for people with farms and and Training centers and then he not just not just limited to those and the the buyer advantage program is terrific And you should avail yourself of it and you know those of us and when you join the tour you become you become part of the part of the advantage program and so they as part of the program that they have with with nt ira. They're providing this riding mower. Okay keep chavalit. And and michelle. Robert kraft said. Could you come up with a way. We cut this riding mower. We find a way to give it away for sure of course and so you know we've been doing the form to win contests and i thought why not just utilize the form to win format And in this particular week instead of cash prize. Let's let's give somebody a riding mower and kirk white. I think he was surprised. When i when i wrote him a note and said you know you. You're the kirk white right that that that entered the contest. They said yeah but he said i went four for five said. Yep that's good enough Because he had lexa tony and among his four winters car. Congratulations thank you thank you. That was right was i. I'll ask that the classic question you know. Have you want anything like this before no no. I've had some nights from head to pick nine for a dime at balmoral. One time that paid twenty thousand. But nothing like the nothing like this too funny and see i i was gonna i was gonna write this to you but then i figured i'll save it as a line instead for for the conversation. Which is you know now. The wife says you're spending so much time and and Vienna you spend the now you can say but look we got. We got this beautiful riding mower right right. Yeah i i my my daughter. I sent my daughter a message And she says really. We wanna writing on more suites. And i can't remember if i asked you the other night. The you have a yard. I mean you have a big yard. You're in iowa yard. it's not it's not you know so we do. have the yard. Yes yeah. we've we rushmo at Biweekly since we haven't had much rain laugh. Now the good point i i also got the kick out of the fact that you're what you're right across the border from moline from from john headquarters. Yep we live right on the mississippi river where they actually with the mississippi river on east and west and molina illinois is Basically a quarter mile from my house or half mile from my house to In fact The john deere classic was just a few weeks ago before the british open. That is that is too funny. Is that that where you are. That's by davenport. Yeah yep part of the quad cities. I that was going to say. Yup we're right on the We're interstate eighty off across dippy river The old Quad city downs is In east moline and Used to be my home away from home. The young child Well to be honest The i as crazy as the sounds it it it may be the new arlington The potentially churchill churchill saying that You know they might. They might want to transfer the the license if allowed and and to to reboot quad cities. Down so i mean that that actually come up Has there been much in the papers about this at all Not much no I i have a friend. That's close to that situation and He he kinda give me an update every once in a while. Ask and and You know it's one of those you never know things you now The track still there the grandstand. It still there. It's in disrepair. It would have to be rebuilt and You know i was. I was actually at the auction. Whenever they were selling pieces. Out of the track itself. You know wow and it was a sad day. You know always We you know whatever whatever you lose whatever you'll lose a track talk about your own horseplay interests and You know how how how you started. Obviously if you're talking about moral you play the wheels to yeah that's kind of how it started a I started going to the quad. See down the you know whenever. I'm fifty four now. Whenever i was sixteen. I actually was betting before wiggled about. Because i'm kind of a larger person and through that i actually My my friend that i was speaking of Introduce midmarket search. Whenever we are in high school we. We both went to bettendorf goal and He was like a year or two behind and just started handicap and back then Whenever they caused the track quite sees i. I actually You know worked as a groom for just you know helping out. A friend share worked for the leading trainer there and then A friend of mine. The started training horses in chicago and and did really well and We actually i bought with some winnings. I bought a cheap claimer and we raised him for a while and told him and then Whenever i hit that pick nine. For a dime i reinvest and bought body A three year old non winners source And i actually bought it from my wife and for a birthday present and We raise town For about six months and he he got injured and we saw them and I just you know. I followed a harness racing. And then i started listening to your side started driving over the road About twenty years ago well and started listening to jj sure and then You and every morning. You're you're my regular routine and you're you're a big part of my handicapping anymore The information that i gain from the show You know because of Like jackson and You know and That was a big help. Affleck's phony although. I am a fan of that horse. but I i mean. I hit a pick four years ago because guess lonzo the pay ten thousand dollars there you go. Yeah fogy so I yeah. I mean that's the we still have a an ot be. That was put in clinton iowa with one of the casinos Every once in a while. I'll go up there but mostly Watch online watch the fox fork show Just pick up information from the trainers. The you have on Know a couple of weeks ago. Marquess you've talked about a horse it. They dumped bro surgery on and he came back. She came back and won Had to wager on her and You are a big part of the information and my handicapping. How i there's no data. Now i i appreciate you saying that because it's one of the night and that's really the nicest compliments That can be received a because the whole idea here is to help. People enjoy the game more and learn more and be engaged in it And so that's a. That's a very gratifying comment. I appreciate it. I appreciate the chance to win a prize like that. It's cool you know. I've played in a few of your other the free tournaments and it just really hard for me. i. I have a family and i worked daily. So it's hard for me to sit down and handicapped. You know I you know when it comes to the derby and the big races. I'll print out the forms and and sit down and use information gained from your show and and You know just watch requ as You know i forgot. I guess. I forgot to say a lot of the My handicapping you know. Of course over the years you'll learn different things whenever i've is a quasi downs Through my friend. I was introduced to the announcer there. And he. he scott. Erlich and he Helped me taught me a lot about handicapping. Harnessing handicapped in chicago and You know and that was a big help. You know rain down right now down early early mo- you know. So you know who who twits trainers. The which courses would have early money You know who their horses early You know watch replace you know and that that i got videotape and watch replays over and over again you know especially for the wraith back weekly. You know that was always a big help absolutely absolutely well a brilliant job to you know to in a contest like this where you where you have to just pick a winner and and put them as many together as possible to the tab. Lexa tony and You know the terrific job and and then you you hit the The only one you missed was the monmouth oaks. And actually you had you. Had you had will schwartz's other ores. You had midnight session but Finished third and ran wild. But then you swept You swept it. The rest of the way The central quality and Cross-border was a. That was not an easy. That was not an easy horse to land on necessarily worst coming in. I thought a big shot. You know The day before. I was having lunch with friends and You know i'd mentioned mentioned lexin sodhi into on and off for cross-border and i it's funny because we were sitting talking and it just came up that my friends said i'm better handicapper than i am a better and after after that day i i would have to read them because i bet the pick four and missed the last week and i said i wish i was. Just what a short kicking on the pick. Three you know flexing sonian and then king The single in the middle and and You know that was I picked up a little money but You know and that's and that's one of the things when i mean when you when you land or when you know that your key opinion is at the for that horst end up. What the price he did. Thirty five to one was crazy and You know you have to. That's not a spot where you say. Well i've got to pick four going. So i don't need the bedroom and especially in the first leg of a pick for you. Bet those to win and deb. Yup win money which is but when money i i liked to find christ lake that shot and i'll play him first second third and the try with you know with a few horses do You've talked about the reverse. Try where you can sing on the bottom. If there's a big favorite and and punch a bunch of times with the favorites you know I did catch exact. We'll talk a little bit of win money so it wasn't well you know what the detractors was offer not about well and you obviously were staying up there. You were waiting for your way. Of course you were an hour. You're an hour behind but so must have been what eight thirty eight forty five when i reached out Give or take an after the the race. Del mar But you were staying up. I'm sure yeah you had an interest in what was going to happen there. You realize they had to tap out on the table. So the kids and the wife was santa. And the reason that i thought on four or five and and i just kind of working and To see you know how. What kind of results would be up. And and then that's got the message for you and my wife says you're kidding me. The center behind it was exciting H- kirk i. I'd i would have taken me longer. But i found you right away on twitter and although i did have your number because you're on the registration i didn't realize that until the later but I i was so glad And and i'm it. Sounds like you're going to enjoy it and I congratulations thank you on the Was the To the pri donating and john deere you can wave. You can wave to the plant. Th the guy's going in the plant when you drive by. I love it kirk white. Everybody and the winner of this beautiful x. Three thirty riding more from Ntr a advantage program and hopefully we'll have one again next year and But in the meantime kirk is the envy of bettendorf iowa and wait. Till i get marcus hershon now on friday and and can and can because i did not know i knew he was from that area but i know specifically the news from bettendorf. That's great to funding. I love kirk white. Everybody we're gonna stay here. We've got about five minutes and Seth is Seth mero who Was was it was in the house hours ago. Good morning good morning and thank you again. That was fun you You put a always put out a good spread. And the last night was no exception. They pay an exceptional crowd. They're going to be part of it. So i appreciate that going back to your last guest The main force like tony. And you think you have a good day already but then at the end of the day. Hey i wanted to raise this. I wanna tractor so god bless funeral in the next day Tv and we're talking about kind of the scoring and as it was proceeding during the afternoon but man had a couple of players. You were doing pretty well with alexa tony. But yet congratulations. But when i was a nice after no i love it and then all you know you just came out with a whole bunch of little little sidebars And connections to the game. He's owned the horse that there were two and this is you know this. I think what he just described is really typical of of the. You know of the weekend player and you know people that you know that. Wanna play the game as much as possible but You know the real life kind of interferes. So you don't necessarily have all the time to fully attack and handicap so garnering garnering some information off of of our show and and kind of piecing things together That that's enough for a lot of people and and If it you know we can help you help people win you say all the time when people with those fun Not be you know those sharing contest guys do the what. What is it called the the bank rank wealth. The i did one. One time Aunt central and that was great fun and everybody went home with. I don't know forty dollars but still it. It's free money and and they're rooting for you. And they they thank you. It makes you feel good it is. It's a lot of course you're doing the play of the day for a essentially a bankroll team as well. And you're not gonna out of the park there with your tap play of the day So i'm sure. The bankrupt team will be very happy at the end of the meat that participated in that. As you're doing very well yeah. I say a lot. You nailed it the weekend player. Who takes advantage of what we do is kind of what i'm shooting for when i do the the afternoon handicapping shows or obviously when we're up here at saratoga because you and i and people who are ilk have the luxury of getting paid to watch and and kind analyzed and studied the races every day and hopefully we can then pass that onto the the folks who joy game and love the game and have a job and can't spend as much time as we do so you hope to impart some level of information to them that will end you know. Add till the time they can spend and and get get some winning tickets and it was fun to hear again your previous guest talk a little bit about listening to your show and getting a little little insight from some trainers that allowed them to cash 'em tickets because exactly that's what it's all about for the guys who can't be out here and be lucky enough to be here every day or concentrating on it every day you hope you point them in the right direction with some of the knowledge you are Privy to exactly well let's Let's try to weave that straw into gold rumpelstiltskin and Give us give us a couple of plays today. What are you like looking well. I was looking before on the air in trying to see if i had anything clever today. I don't know whether anything super clever. But i thought in the last race a horse they have underneath was a little bit of a promo really For my horses. I guess are kind of decent prices if you wanted to watch things up but in the last race today starter allowance a island sixteenth. Just checking scratches still busy. Go with my. I haven't five eight four and ten getting the tenth here at saratoga disaster nail. I put kitten by the sea on top pletcher. Three reportedly seasonal debut was pretty good The horse can kind of build on that and move forward. I think it by the diesel. Four to one with foley. Jose ortiz horses live but evidence base. That will see it that whole job. I thought this off the to turf starts sources of player in here now that op deter per last time may darken the form. A little bit and we'll hope that does and we get that twelve one but it's kind of a gap leone who thinks a decent little meat and the horse with turf form very good so at twelve to one. I'll toss that in the mix at eight to one honor hop. I thought it'd be a player as well that master race it wasn't mile and a half. So maybe it's a little bit quirky. But i thought that was a decent one to two toss in the mix it as well it a little bit of christ so get an benaglia by eight. Four and ten in the morning line seems to make sense to play around with those well. A couple of notes on hop is my play of the day So we're on that and and if you look closely at that turf race what's noticeable. It was against the boys. And when you mention evidence-based i do not disagree at all. And i took a long hard look and if i go five deep by chance when i'm going to build the tickets right now before. I put him on the website the pick four in a pick five. I thought that was the fifth horse. Evidence-based i i ended up using the eleven cloud is run. Who's also twelve to one. These are you know i. I've tried if i if i if i've said anything during this play the day. thing it's been you know to look at races where you can really see. And and there's a record of nice returns and i. I'm focused on the state bread long on the grass. This is long on the grass billion mayor starter allowance. so it's sort of that cut beneath the the state course and and the third level allowance type courses these are. These are the same kinds of races. So this is where you make hay. And where you you know because there's very little difference between the eight and twelve to one horses we're talking about and kitten by the c. You know chenier there the narrow margin you're talking about a trip you're talking about a horse getting through and there's not much between them so we're we're both on that same page great point i mean you look at the open you can find something to like for most of these and clouds run. Goes out for bonaventure. And they're kind of locally based on the managing partner. There is dan collins who lives in saratoga and in fact they were all in the eighteen sixty three the the local bonaventure partners on saturday. They have their local events. I went over. Nice form a little bit To start the day on saturday a lot of local people involved in their horses during you know so being local. I root for them a lot and doing the the afternoon.
