"Give us a ring at one triple 8767 43 48. When you ring that number, you're going to get an auto attendant that will pick the line up. Just instantly pushed the number one and you will be afforded to my wife, Sweet Jennifer in the call screener booth here at the station, and she'll be able to get your name question will put John Eyre and get you the answers as quick as we can. One triple 8767. 43 48. Romi and I are here in studio and we're here every Saturday morning with the number one objective. Before we go on air. We looked at each other a lot of times when we say Dad, Romy. Let's be a blessing to the people that are tuning in this morning. Let's find a way to melt away their anxiety. And good night. Current events is you're making that easy right now, everybody. Everybody come Saturday morning. All pent up wound up strong tight and then we just kind of unstrung you. We kind of relax you and we'll let you talk about what you want to talk about. One triple 8767 43 48. So in my mission, becoming every Arizona homeowners best friend. One of my strategies is to melt away your anxiety. So one of the things that we got an indication in our office was driving a lot of you people into a very anxious state. Were the headlines being produced. By the utility companies here in Arizona. And the three biggest utility companies. All we're saying the same thing A PS s r P And T p So I invited good friend Jill Hank's from a PS to come in and talk about those headlines. Good morning, Miss Jo. Good morning. Rosy. I know why you had to put this out there. The boy. We sure got a lot of phone calls, and I'm sure you did. And I, you know, I think for some folks, that question was, you know, extreme heat is not unusual in Arizona. So what's going on? And you know the difference. Wass that this week was a wide spread regional weather event regional heat wave, and that Impacted the power supply. And you all as well as the other companies were all floating out the same story to avoid possible rolling brownouts. And I know I have customers that have moved here from California in the last six months that we've done remodeling for and they were the first ones I heard from. They called. They said, Hey, we moved away from PG Any, You know, Don't get. Don't give us that story. But the rolling brownouts that y'all mentioned in this week's headlines. Had a couple of factors playing in it, but I want you to. I want you to calm everybody down. We're in good shape in Arizona. We are absolutely in good shape. A PS had sufficient supply and available reserves. But the grid that were connected to was strange from that supply and demand standpoint, especially During the high demand period from 3 P.m. to 8 P.m. in California. The resource is to generate electricity were not sufficiently available. To meet customer demands due to the high heat, and that caused the rolling blackouts there. A PS never reached emergency status. But like you said, we have to be ready for the unexpected. So Out of an abundance of caution, a PS and other utilities. Ask customers last Tuesday and Wednesday to voluntarily conserve energy during that high demand period, you know, hold off on non essential appliance, Yusef you can like running the dishwasher doing laundry, your pool pump things like that. And without sacrificing safety or comfort. Can you raise your thermostat a few degrees that could help. And so the reason that we took that step is to plan for those unforeseen events and contingencies. For example, a transmission line could go down or a power pant plant could go off line and we wanted to ensure It is something like that happened. We could keep the lights on. And, of course, the air conditioning running. I don't think people realize how interconnected the grid is. Folks right now. Jennifer was doing a little research last night. There are over 500 active wildfires in California. Well, that's turning transmission lines off and on all through this southwest region. And so all these utility companies. I'm oversimplifying here all feed this grid. Well as soon as California starts hogging power because they're afraid to share it because they're having a shutdown transmission lines, A PS has to react. S r P actually had a transmission line through. Ah, While far here in Arizona. They had to shut down for a little while. So it's all interconnected. But my hat's off to the utility companies of Arizona, especially after watching the headlines and hearing the stories of what other utility companies go through. In other neighboring states. And Rosie. We want to thank our customers. Their actions did have a meaningful impact on our ability to reliably serve our customers in this situation, So we appreciate the actions that they took in conserving power during those hours. Now, Jill, I don't know if you've seen it. But about two months ago I submitted to you in Triplicate Commission royalties Check request. For all the education I have done for super cooling, cooling, and I'm only looking for 1 1/100 of 1% of the next cost of them of not building the next power plant. We'll see what we can work out. You haven't seen that You are a prime example of you know customers, really. We advise them to make sure they're on a service plan that, you know best suit their needs. And there are options and you know you you are the master super cooler. Ah, in how to how to.

"I'm the legion Molly and we begin at the state capitol that's where a bill that would overhaul how our state deals with wild fires caused by utilities is speeding its way through the state legislature it passed to committees and the Senate floor vote yesterday and is now on its way to the assembly the bill is a compromise that's left some including those who lost their homes in recent fires unsatisfied he released Katie or reports the legislature is hurrying to pass the controversial bill before lawmakers leave for their summer recess at the end of the week the measure includes a twenty one billion dollar fund that repairs and utility shareholders would pay into the money could then be used to pay for damages related to wild fires caused by power company equipment Alex Jackson with the natural resources defense council says the bill doesn't go far enough in protecting customers but he says the status quo is not acceptable we're also concerned that the absence of the measures contained in this bill today we will continue to put tremendous pressure on repairs to pay for these costs I think we need stability we think this measure brings a modicum of that several fire victims spoke in support of the measure but tubs fire survivor William Abrams wasn't one of them he says the measure is filled with loopholes that utilities will take advantage of breaks my heart there are many people who are affected by the fires that they need the money and I understand and I sympathize with the folks who are on that side and I want to be there but I cannot in good conscious support the bill on the backs of future wildfires survivors and that's what this does California's three biggest utilities have called for major changes in state laws and regulations to help them better manage their wildfire liabilities and allow them to regain a solid financial footing the bill which is supported by governor Gavin Newsom requires a two thirds vote of the legislature to pass for the California report I'm Katie your in Sacramento the mayor of San Jose is speaking out about those public safety powershot offices the utilities call them like the ones we saw during the spell of extreme hot weather last month a week before that the state's utilities have been empowered by the regulator to turn off the power to customers when fire danger is high the idea is to stop their power lines and equipment from sparking wildfires as they have several times these past few years but the fact that the utilities make the call is not sitting well with mayor Sam look cardio he wants another group to have veto power over when and for how long P. Jeannie can declare blackouts in his city saying the utility is beholden to its shareholders not to the public I simply believe that this is a serious threat to public health and safety and the decision should be made by someone accountable to the public not to P. Jeannie shareholders may look cardo is meeting with P. Jeannie officials today to discuss details of when the utility turns off the power in southern California the Mohave desert town of trona hit hard by the recent earthquakes this holiday weekend may not have water service restored for days meanwhile San Bernadino county says it ten homes have been tagged as uninhabitable so far and there could be more to come a spokesperson says some homes shifted as far as six feet off their foundations I want to take a moment now to introduce as someone who listeners I think a lot of you are already familiar with salt solace who is our new co host and correspondent for the California report he is going to be our man in southern California going forward welcome cell thanks willing how's it going so far we put you to work this weekend anyway you did I mean thanks to California geology right California brought us together sooner than we thought because of these earthquakes and it was just so interesting to go up and see how these communities were affected by the Templars California never a dull moment here no I love this state I'm a native southern Californian and to me what I love about doing this job in California it's like cover your country right coming into entire nation state an entire civilization and the place never bores me I never wake up and thinking it's a dull day in California it's just not that way I mean there's so many interesting things constantly happening in every facet of life and it's just an enormous pleasure to help tell just a fraction of the stories even what kinds of stories are you most interested in I am interested in those ones we we all share in common now that we all know are important to light like housing where do we live in the state and at what price point and then I am incredibly interested in the tales of new arrivals to the state where they come from a whole other longitude of the world or they're just coming from the next state over and how they make themselves at how Californians and and and put down roots here and how they sometimes find the California dream but also just like getting off the beaten path like just going down like a little side trail and seeing what's in there I think there's no replacement for being there I think you feel the same way right you often to tell the stories in the best way possible you have to be at that place and no exaggeration here I am a professional wanderer the way I see it I just like to go out and see what's what and it's amazing what you'll encounter I'm really excited to first of all welcome you to our team on behalf of all of us and I can't wait for all of us to run around this state together yeah and with you and with all the great colleagues here I'm really really excited about like introducing Californians to each other and really exploring what we have in common and this huge place right song three to have you the league nice to be.
