Coinbase in Turmoil: Why Employees Walked Out

"Coin base has been a major topic of discussion this week, not only in the crypto world, but also in the wider world of Tech Business and politics why don't you give us a recap of what happened it's it's been a major reason for why I haven't gotten any sleep this week as well. But yeah just basically to recap on Sunday. Brian. Armstrong the CEO of Coin Base released a blog outlining effectively his political vision or anti social activist vision for coin. Base. As a firm, very mission driven sort of mission for a very product driven mission for the company effectively, and so obviously that kind of set the CRYPTO and tech world broadly aflame with different perspectives on whether or not that sort of the right course of action for a company that. So public facing coin based to take a company that could in many ways drive you know messages of social justice and black lives matter to large audiences, and so lots of debates around that lots of coverage in mainstream and crypto media alike about you know what this means for coin base and from A. Company's perspective and from the perspective of whether or not it will result in in folks leaving and then on Tuesday the night of the debate Literally right after the debate ended I got an email from a source which was basically the e mail that Brian Armstrong out to employees saying listen if you are uncomfortable with this with this new mission or the way that we sort of outlined, the mission perfectly fine. We will give you a very generous honestly package a severance package to than leave the company which you have until next week to consider So that was Tuesday Wednesday obviously, you know still this was. In the in the media being talked about on twitter and definitely being talked about act coin base internally in in various slack channels, and then today they had an Amei discussing this and I put out I'm in the process of putting out a report. That's GONNA walk through this time line an ama addressing all the stuff that's been going on this week, and then as you know some of the attention has been sucked away by quote unquote rival not necessarily rival bit Mex- getting slapped with charges from the Department of Justice. So that's been the weakened and nutshell that's been what we've seen in a nutshell and it's been it's been interesting it's but not necessarily unsurprising. So, you mentioned social justice in black lives. Matter were those the specific social and or political issues by employees at coin base wanted the company to take a stand on. Or take action on or were there other issues because obviously with you we've seen with twitter and facebook that there's also a lot of talk in the in the tech world about what companies roles are in you know managing misinformation and I know coins isn't in the business of misinformation but there is a lot of talk about how tech companies what their actions can do in terms of our democracy. And there's a lot of there's a lot of talk around this election. Right let's let's not forget that we are just a few few weeks away from what what many would consider one of the most important elections of our generation of many people's lifetimes maybe, and so there is probably just a just as there. There is this this sentiment at many other companies of how do we take action? How do we provide employees with the right tools to go vote to make their voices heard and to have an impact on on this decisive election? Those worthy issues that coin base or what we're specifically the ones I'm just saying I wouldn't be surprised if that was sort of something that was underpinning this this this blog that Brian felt like he needed to put out on. Sunday. Now rewinding the clock and this is what my report gets at. This isn't this isn't an isolated thing that happened on Sunday, and if you go and wind the clock back to the summer. Okay and this was hinted at in Brian's blog but not explicitly talked about. Back. In June there was an ama and you know this from covering coin base three-run reporting that they have these Ama's employees can submit questions and ask. Company Management Senior leadership about a myriad of things from you know personal preferences of of Ice Cream. I. Don't know if that's ever been asked but that could be an example to to you know thoughts about company Product, launches to you know other personal and business questions alike, and so someone asked according to several sources a question about Brian's view on black lives matter. Okay and so that kind of resulted in him I wouldn't say re rebuffing the question but there one source described him as not necessarily being not necessarily knowing if the person was asking about black lives matter the movement or black lives matter the specific organization and kind of saying like I'm not ready to talk about this and so what that ended up resulting in was a walkout in Brian's posts he describes they're being. Walkouts plural Not necessarily sure if that's because obviously we're in this decentralized work working situation where An office people basically, you know walkout turn their computers often signed off for the day. So that's been brewing since June right this question of whether or not. They should take a definitive make a definitive statement in. Support of black lives matter and so that be clear he did that from his personal account north. Yeah. So that next day as a result of sort of all of this, you know all this commotion I guess for lack of a better word. He then did go out and tweet that he definitively supports black lives matter as a movement supporting the idea that you know black lives as a result of of of the state of African Americans in this country need to sort of be recognized in an uplifted to examine, and then he had A. Pretty long tweet thread outlining that and and in that tweet threat as well. I think I think one hundred percent sure. He mentioned the walkouts as well. So it's kind of been a long at least from my understanding along thread also underpinning like aside from the issue specifically like there's a question or or an interesting point to be made about Brian himself and like I'm sure you also can like speak to this given your your previous covered. in two, thousand, fourteen there was a Bloomberg article that described him and Fred as. These VOLCAN bankers right like you know very not the most gregarious characters that you come across and very serious and like Brian I was talking to a source about this like basically an hour and a half ago Brian is someone who probably like wanted to build the most used most important product and crypto not run the largest most important company in Crypto and so I think that also undergirds this this situation where I I'm sure Bryan is like a fairly nice guy like I I take. I. I'm sure you know his sympathy or concern about certain. Social Justice issues could could be legitimate, but he like wants to build coin base like he wants to build this company. and. What's so funny about that. I have a feeling I know which Thorson. But anyway. We'll check about that later in check after the show. Yeah. But yeah. So that's that's that's basically where we're at with this I've just been surprised. I'm shirt. I don't know how surprise am I know I am surprised that it's gotten so much attention I. Think. Maybe because of the language of the blog and the language of the email and apparently that's been another thing that's been discussed in in the Ama today and just generally internally is. And this is probably not surprising like did we were this right and and that's obviously evident in the fact that they've changed some of the language in the Post, right? So originally, there was a reference made a kind of like strange reference Some would say to brand Taylor in which they sort of talk about like the events regarding you know recent events as opposed to like you know this tragedy someone probably want more passionate language. and. So there's been talks about whether or not the language in these two documents were appropriate on I. Think. It's not so much about what's going on maybe internally aucoin based that that people are reacting to these to. You know this this blog post, and then this email right which really. kind of Coley rent people might argue right and so that's what I'm sort of

"And humans came from. Dust says ECCLESIASTES DIS but Bonnie Sui us that humankind also wants sprang from end still seeks. Water why we swim is her latest book which Texas from Ponds Pools to surfers racers and a few who have survived icy currents Bonnie Soy who writes frequently for the New York Times in California Sunday magazine. Join just for more home in Berkeley California. Thanks so much for being with us. Thanks so much for having me Scott. You begin with an amazing story about a man whose name I will not chance to even try and say March Eleven nineteen eighty-four what happened on this planet. Good Liquor Thorson. He's an Icelandic fishermen and fishing trawler with his crew. It's calm waters it's cold it's forty one degrees and the boat overturns with forty one degree water within twenty to thirty minutes we die from hypothermia but he did not everyone else did and he ended up swimming six hours and when he finally got to the hospital the doctors weren't able to discern his heartbeat or read his temperature on the thermometer but he didn't show any signs of hypothermia and he was only a little bit dehydrated. He was a strong swimmer certainly but was he also saved by his own biology. He was like the story very much. Because it is this the distillation of what makes swimming so special for humans. We have to learn how to swim. we're not born knowing how to do it instinctively and yet there are sort of traces of that evolutionary past still within us that our evolutionary past that came from the sea and so with good liquor for. Thorson turns out that his body fat was two to three times normal human thickness and more solid and so he resembled a Marine Mammal. More than terrestrial mammal. And that saved him. Did you grow up feeling? Pull into the even. If it was only Jones Beach in New York I did. I mean my family origin story is at my parents met no swimming pool in Hong Kong. We grew up with swimming family and so we grew up at Jones beach in the pool. Lifeguards swim team. I just always remember feeling more comfortable and happy in the water actually than on land. I mean there's just a sense of magic that you get from being in the water and buoyancy that you just don't have on land you in this book talk to swimmers all over the world right nearby you though you you swim San Francisco Bay without a wet suit and there are people including I gather you who believe that's actually good for you in all ways it can be. I mean I have also talked to scientists and researchers who say cardiovascular risk. Don't go into sudden shock cold water because it could stop your heart that aside a wr decided there are benefits to cold water immersion. And there's been quite a bit of research in recent years where your dopamine levels go up in your over time that your cardiovascular system is strengthened and you know there are people there are things that we knew from across cultures around the world that there was a water cure there. Was you know jumping in cold? Water was good for you and jumping in hot water and then jumping into cold water and so we didn't know why exactly in the science kinda starting to catch up. What is this Brown fat you talk about in this book. Well this was really interesting. I did not know about Brown fat until I started swimming with a Dolphin Club swimmers in San Francisco Bay and so I went to ucsf to talk to the foremost researchers in Brown fat and it turns out that mammals are born with two kinds of white fat which we all know about the energy stores of our bodies and Brown fat which actually Burns and produces heat energy. We kind of start to lose it as we get older but there are ways to do what's called the Browning of white fat which is to kind of turn it into energy burning tissue. That fat is called Beige Fat. And so what? Kind of encourages. The development of beige fat is cold water exposure and exercise among other things. But those have been proven to be causing this change in our bodies. Wonder if you have any words for people who aren't able to swim these days you know. The water is a draw for us no matter what and so even if you can't get in the water if you can walk near it can look at. It can see it can You know have some what a wall Nichols calls domestic waters in your house and you know. Take about the shower. Just look at imagery watches surf movie. I mean those things. Make a difference for our souls and our the way our bodies and brains work. Click we respond to those set points in the environment and even if we can't get in the waters right now you know the ocean will be waiting for us. The pools we waiting for us on the other side of this Bonnie Choi. Her book why we swim she in the Water

Netflix's 'Cheer' invites you to unlearn what you think you know about cheerleading

"I'm late on this one but many many people have said. Hey you've got to watch the show Cheer on Netflix. Amy lunchbox watched it. And it just wasn't for me. I don't WanNA cheerleading show. And it was up in the corner of the screen we times Netflix. Continue to watch it but the girl. I'm getting the greatest show and I was like all right. I'll watch it with the antenna going. It wasn't for me that way to hear about it anymore. I think it's my favorite show ever so good. Good down the the the whole to like. I know instagram like following all of them. It's so good and it's it's less like a reality show and more like a documentary. It's a little a bit reality a little bit but it's so much a like a Docu series. My favorite thing is because they are high level junior college cheerleaders. And what it's doing is watching them go from you know weeks out until the Daytona which is where they have their chilling championship and you kind of following. If they'll make it who makes the squad and again not so much about cheerleading. As it is following the characters involved but it's super high intensity like tumbling and flipping and so like a lot autumn. My friends that were cheerleaders and like ninth grade. I totally relate pictures of them up in their cheerleading uniform. It's like the same thing. It's not forbid six bits dollar our holiday. It's like hard core hard core. Now it's like a athleticism at its finest. It is a great show. It's a Ninety four percent positive tomato with critics ninety six on audience score and again. I didn't expect it and that was only watching it to say I didn't watch one episode and I was just GonNa Watch one and and and tell me yeah but I watched one. Oh I gotta see what happened in the second one after the second one I was I was in. It's only six episodes. They're an hour reach Navarro Texas and so it's according to Camp But Yeah No. It's it's it's really good. That's I mean I tried to make Daytona. I cried on average because I don't think I cried every episode but on average I cried one episode Thorson episode two times. I don't want to do any spoilers whatsoever. Because I didn't want to be spoiling it for me but there are times where I was like just completely moved a Monica the coach. Oh my gosh. She's an awesome right. Come like school us right now. She grew up in that small town. It wasn't like someone so I would encourage you to check it out it's on net flicks. I did not want to like it so I'm not sending over to a show that I was like I told you I'm kind of late to it. As far as I feel like I should be watching stuff early. Recommended the folks But it's really good. It's called cheer on Netflix. You're still talking a lot of people that haven't seen it. I mean aiming I said and we spilling the tee off like. WHO's your favorite? Oh yeah what do they do. You want to be friends with dairy. who my favorite was Morgan? Yeah well yeah cool can back stories or what gets me because she you know oh she had family that left her just left and she lived in a trailer. I thought of you into trailer by yourself the Camper Camper. Yeah but I was like Van. I totally I totally get that. It's good a lot of them. Have Great Stories Darius. Yeah they're all. Yeah it's and it a two helps you remember to look like I would look at a cheer team like me like. Oh my gosh look how super towns and look at them and their cheerleaders and they have this but everybody has something I'm going on. You don't know where people have come from or what they're trying to overcome in 'cause like each character. Yeah why because chillier is seen as like the happy the peppy the Whoo I could do a bit but there was an truly help. Change their life like some of them were on the course of destruction and they were given some structure and something to that'd be passionate about film. I mean just like any sport can do for people but this happened cheerleading. So don't think it's a show about cheerleader. It's much more than you're leading his part of it. Yeah about humans. Their back story overcoming working and my husband. Did you watch it Morgan. Yeah I'm on the third episode right now. Are you obsessed with it. Yes but I used to be a competitive cheerleader so competitive oh like I was on three different competitive teams. I started cheering when I was like six years told my mom started a competitive team. Okay so this is like you. Yes baskets everything. I was like When I was really young and in kindergarten pardon heard one of the teams that she helped run? Would like throw me in the air because I was so little and I would do baskets and stuff when I was so young. Wow Morgan's number. twos like cheer. She's also a really good athlete. Possibly the Best Adelaide on the show I pound for pound maybe the best athletes on the show. She's a lot she's five foot tall right and I think if we're fighting I'M GONNA win because I'm bigger but I think she's possibly the best athletes on the show. That's tough for me to say BR bride Here because I considered myself to be athletic but I'll get no credit. No credit and I was in cheerleader to maybe so you my senior year of High School Rau- Rodman like I couldn't even do it. Texas tea did you. I think of going to college. Oh Yeah I teared in high school I mean. I did all the steps of cheerleading. And I could probably still do some of my backflips and stuff. I really want to do. So Oh wow. It's the gymnastics cheerleading. This show it's not the cheerleaders you rarely see them. Go out and do cheers in the background. You'll see them do that. It's it's not a stunt guy. Basically gymnastic yeah gymnastics part of cheer wit stunts which stunts is where the stuff that gets really hard and tricky. Like I probably had two or three concussions concussions. When I was doing stunts and stuff that's wild? This is crazy like five concussions in the NFL you get if you can cut into your. You're done like you're GonNa be messed up your whole life so nervous like every time they would go into a new formation and went to like live like build the pyramid off his always like gripping at a UH. I don't know who's your favorite character. Jerry Jerry I wanted I need to channel more Jerry in my life. Because he's just so positive. Gosh he has like he had a rough like lost his mom and into lose your mom. It's such a young age and formative years and gosh she just still stayed so positive. Well we'll leave it with that for now but that show cheer is to me was way more than cheerleading. Because I don't that's not my thing to get interested in it's a really great. Docu knock you series a little bit of reality show. Mostly Docu series. What makes it a little bit of reality? Shows the camera watching them talk about stuff other than that. It's it's pretty

"Our guest. Today are David Vago. They've welcome to the PODCAST. Good to see you again Ted. Thanks so much for inviting us. It's really a pleasure it to be here with you. So much and Thurston Barnes Thurston. Welcome to the PODCAST. I said thank you for the invitation says present here and Amy Bernstein. I mean welcome nice to meet you I thanks very much. So let's begin by just talking a little bit about about how the three of you connected for this special issue of current opinions in psychology. What happened? How did you guys connect about about this? Particular topic. Wants to take that one who wants to take that one or you have to start amidst I should. I should start when you were the originator. I'LL START I think we'll talk a bit about The how the idea for this project came about and also how it really grew and changed and evolved after David Thornton. I started to work on together after we reached out to the field to to think through it developed a just initially. I had just sort of looked for two colleagues that I knew in respected did and liked I thought would ring. Perspectives that More commentary and that represented sort of different different not only this disciplinary perspectives but also sort of different communities of global. Mindfulness research in practice optus community. And so that's it was really just sort of sort of to a sort of thing. And they were nice enough to agree the little bit of convincing but the arm twisting on this guy I remember you saying something like Oh it will take much of your time is is out about something like that and how it went. When did I was telling talking earlier about when we actually met? I don't know in the two of you met. I remember meeting Thorson in Birmingham remember. Thurston your two thousand third scene. That was an impressive member of the year in. Did your your number either Hauer when you and I met. I can't remember I do I think it was the SP SP meeting and the sex Anak Society of one of those Social Sidka meetings that everyone goes to which was that one call the. It's or a clinical on that day fresco organized a table and And there was a meet and we were in a panel together new Judd and Oh yeah Oh yeah. ABC He'd be ready to yes. Ruth Bear Myself Judd. And you it yes in Chicago veteran Chicago you look it up or may have been actually Nashville Nashville. I go to Nashville thinker. So this is what happens. You get a video target or the oldest oldest chat for long and that's part of the intent of the guest is giving voice to him so great and Thurston Hubbub. That would probably I don't know how many years ago that was me but that was a while ago and that's when I I we I think we what we connected on on was The dialogue you had a nice way of teasing out answers to some of the difficult questions at thought. And that was you. I'm that that struck me as being You know a powerful tool in this discussion that we're having really about how contemplacion's good thing for us us in terms of mental health physical health right so that was the first time I thought that we we could potentially work again together. And then you reached out again I think or we reached out to get together. We saw each other at the mind and life Concluded studied and Thurston. How about you you and David touted you to meet you? RECALL THEY SA- longtime buck. Actually we must have met said minded knife some research institutes on so I remember exactly the it is through this community docks. We met since Michigan's Michigan's and kind of state and dialogue. I think thoughts does the networks thoughts cantonized allotted for war. We've we've reported on in the current opinion machine so let's talk a little bit about that and wondering how the just the idea. Hi Dear for this special issue came up well. The editors of the strengths as its current opinions ecology the Journal. Oh and that it's unusual in that it has is kind of like Meta chief editors. They tried identify special issue. Editors Editors who really across a very very wide scope of ideas and methods and questions and they they thought about an issue on. Mindfulness would be timely and interesting and they reached out and I said no a few times because because just wasn't convinced that another special issue in another group of papers really merits asking people to take the time it takes to right. He's kind of academic papers. But I sort of wanting this kind of fantasy and sort of condition. Were we able to do something of scale and scope that would really be unique and would really potentially have impact. I'm on the field Something that would really involve field. Then that could be a really cool project. And I knew that I could but not do that would not be able to put that together Not Intellectually but also not in terms of connections to this community so that was the sort of initiated the first conversations with David Thorsten which was well. If if we if we did this how might we go about doing it. So that it really actually mattered really had meaningful impact in the field. Do

"Now. We're just really hoping that he doesn't have to come into the game and if even if he did have to come into the game it it only be one game like you could by that. I mean like it's not like carson. Wentz goes down for multiple games and then clayton thorson comes in that game and then he has to start all the other ones too. I mean you could always signs someone after that game <unk> though so thorson would not have to play again so i thought they could get away with that. Maybe but it looks like they're not gonna take that chance. <hes> they're bringing in josh mccown. Who i think is going to be really the number two now behind carson wentz for really the entire year i would guess assad unveiled has a leg up on mccown in terms of knowing the system now mccown's only gonna have basically three weeks or so here <hes> before the eagles first game like that's a pretty be steep learning curve. He's a veteran you know so how have experienced some sure <hes> s really not going to hurt him too much in terms of being new <hes> but still it's it's a factor to consider you know he's not gonna be as well versed in the offense as southfield is so i ain't a little thing worth considering. I also think it's worth considering how this eagles roster. Oster construction is going to work out because we know kessler is not making the team that that much is obvious at this point i mean he is a concussion anyway. The eagles can't cut an injured player but i imagine ads and kessler will kind of be cleared at some point before final cuts happen in the eagles will waive him in move on from cody kessler <hes> and he'll be out there on the free agent market if they ever needed dirt dirt resigned him for any reason hopefully they don't and then at that point you'll have four quarterbacks and are you going to keep all four of those quarterbacks on the roster that'd be tough because you'll have a really talented roster and making my 53-man prediction for this team on friday like i did at bleeding green nation dot com..

"It's interesting. Mark sanchez just retired hired. He would have made a ton of sense. He was still a free agent wanted to do stuff but now he's gonna go like e._s._p._n. Analyst and then after that i mean it's like i uh-huh yeah. Exactly it's osweiler. Oslo is the best option last which is terrifying. I also dislike rich man's excluding thorson in some ways well. I know i think that also actually throw the football downfield leah. That's a rich man's clayton thorson right. Hey exactly right that one. The unique skill endorsing doesn't bring so listen. It's so yeah cody kessler clayton thorson. It's not exciting stuff. It's worrisome. Let me ask you about this. I know that dallas goddard is now week to week with a knee i believe they said that it was obviously a calf now. He was obviously dominant in the titans at very from cam. Everybody's everybody's very excited about that tied-in three. There's a few different names here. We've already brought up josh perkins. There's will times floating around on the team as well. I believe it's alex lss last fellow. Yes where i was gonna now expect to see these guys in huge rolls. The eagles very likely to carry three if not four tight ends as they did coming in to last season. What should we be expecting out of the tight end depth chart <unk> position. We should be looking over these final preseason games now that god sidelined yes e._s._o. Gathered it's going to be out for the rest of the preseason. That sounds like week to week <hes> same thing with lane johnson but the older pretty like adamant that that's not a concern. It's just like they're gonna miss the rest of the preseason. They'll be fine for week. One so <hes> we can kind of just take them at their word for that hopefully with missing time though already have richard rodgers day to day with a foot injury three he hasn't practiced in about a week or so. I think we're turnaround resistant. I know 'cause you didn't mention him. I didn't even know he was around. I i think rogers is going to make the team as the third guy like i think they like him there. They feel like you can contribute on special teams in for as much as he's been injury prone like in the last last year and then the season. I never missed a game. I think in his entire career before that so you know he has this track record of durability before last year so i think the team the interesting thing not in terms of mattering at all so much hopefully for the season but in terms of making your fifty three man roster if you're going to do that is the josh perkins thing is not insignificant significant to me like when you see that he's taking first team reps today in twelve personnel with gutter in rogers out but still in also perkins takes. It's like a lotta. The i team's special teams reps pretty much on any kind of special teams unit they do and like the other guys he's lining up with are all guys. You're like those guys are making the team so that kind of makes. Let me think there that they could keep for in if i'm not mistaken which i might be. I'm looking at the practice squad eligibility thing. I don't think any of those guys eagles roster are actually practice crying. What eligiblity aka a aramaic or some other deadline. Which doesn't it's impossible to understand who cares. It doesn't totally not important. I just think that it's it's possible they just keep perkins around especially and it's a silly thing to say the nickname thing but it's like it's not nothing like doug was asked about the tight end position and when he says perk instead of perkins like okay they've nickname for him only reason you'd have nicknamed for guys if you're saying his name a lot exactly so i. I don't think he's not like he's calling on alex l. s. l. e. nickname humidity. That's just kinda the the rundown there at a again. It's it's funny..

"So sorry, Bryce, but we're going to call you on that one because I think your hate non so look. So obviously you're watching quarterbacks this summer for next year's NFL draft. Now coming into this year. I know you had watched some Clayton Thorson, maybe just a little bit. And I'm wondering how you felt about his game fifth round selection for the Philadelphia Eagles to come in and be QB three possibly the solution at the backup position. If Nate Sud filled word to walk and get paid in free agency will see how that all plays out. I'm not. Confident in that at all. But look, how'd you feel about Thorson's game coming into this year because I'm gonna read a quote from a piece that you wrote back in two thousand seventeen let's take you back in time for a second, quote, Thorson shows clean and Chris mechanics. Gonna talk about that with a quick release and solid throwing motion. He is an athletic quarterback with the ability to move on the pocket and can click and climb the pocket. When pressure comes on the edge. He shows. Good velocity. And placement particularly on short and intermediate area. Throws Thorson his Goodwin pressured and rarely gets blustered and accuracy and velocity can be maintained when he is on move or forced to throw off platform on quote. Was there a point in time where you thought Thorson could be a day to guy because what we heard from Jim Nagy, the director of the senior bowl was that they pulled ten teams coming into the two thousand eighteen season. And he said all of them graded Thorson out as a potential second or third rounder. Mark your thoughts. There was certainly a Tom looked at him as a guy that would. Solid. Final season would be in that sort of day to mix. And you know, we're we're talking about, you know, the summer scouting process were lewd into starting on new year doing stuff both at the pro. And college level I'm doing what I'm doing. You know, the process that I undergo started. Now this time of year each year is going back and watching games on the potential next class. And in many cases, these guys don't come out. I will watch everybody that is eligible that. I think is addressable guy. Like last year. I watched last summer I watched forty players that gave me going into this year already four games watched of Clayton. Thorson? I had watched Iowa Illinois from two thousand sixteen at than so the prior to what you quoted from there before the two thousand seventeen season I had those two games in then last summer, I watch Nevada to seventeen bowling green twenty seventeen I have an ongoing process of Volve notes on him. And you know, you quote from was my initial impressions of him, which is again, Chris mechanics. Looks the part good Villon. City particularly in the short intermediate field. Good placement on those while doesn't often get flushed versus fresher shows the ability clicking club. And then when I watched some of the two thousand seventeen games, I add to that good place. Bead good comfort level in the pocket. Okay. Footwork in and around the pocket. You can see examples of heme learning in game. I love to see that. We mentioned coal MacDonald. I'm doing a piece on him right now of him learning game as well. But I love to see sort of win quarterbacks make him a state or miss something. And then rectified immediately in game. Like, it's Bain. Would you see the missed like a corner blitz or missing open read? And then the next week. They see something similar they adjusted make up for. But it's they they learn on the fly. And that shows you coach -bility at show, you processing speed. And so you saw some of that coming in to last year. Now the problem with last year is he had the knee injury. He suffered in a bowl game. And I think that hamstrung have a bit for lack of a better phrase because that movement skills the ability to click..

"Right. Sharon Thorson on the field game where you've got sunshine out there today Sheraton into Bill both from Panthers dot com. The gorgeous day for some football and going to be looks like maybe could be a high scoring affair Bill without Ryan Fitzpatrick. I guess you never know as saying earlier who's gonna show up fits magic. Or if it's tragic as has called it. I love that. But they've got a potent passing attack. It seems like this would be a great week for the Panthers pass rush to really get rare. Put their ears back in Cuba. Yeah. That's really necessary. And that set the scene for the listeners. Right. As we we are directly across the field on the Panthers sideline and directly across the field at the forty yard life is Ryan Fitzpatrick sitting on a bench, a smaller guy than I thought his arm can still get it done. But but share there's a reason why he still hasn't. You grabbed a starting role in the NFL he he makes mistakes, especially under pressure. So Ron Rivera was really adamant about that on Friday. This is a day where the Panthers have to get to the quarterback. They have to get to the spot. If they can't listen, the the bucks are probably gonna make some big plays downfield. You just have to limit those place. They've certainly got some major weapons on that offense side to make some big plays starting with Sean Jackson. Dante Jackson are cornerback. Ricky has been doing a great job. So far on opposing receiver has got to be a big challenge for him today against the guy that he said he'd really grew up last week. It was John Brown, which they did a really good job about and against during the week. He had told Mike Adams, how do you stop a bullet with another bullet? So it's the same. Same exact thing today. So Dante has to stay disciplined. Those dirty is which is getting stuck looking in the backfield. And just stick with the, Sean. But then it can the bucks have Mike Evans, they have OJ Howard. And they have a couple of guys who can really do some damage. So even if Dante can do a great job against to Sean. This offense is still really scary. That's why don't they don't run the ball that much. Why would you when you have all these passing weapons? All right. It sounds like we're going to have a fun challenge after today. Thanks a lot Bill. Sure. See you. All right. Thanks. Sharon and Bill can up Darin Gantt from pro football, talk dot com. Tito's handmade vodka reminds you to drink responsibly. They play the third quarter in college park Qassim hill a couple of touchdown passes Giovane leak a ninety seven yard kickoff return for a score. Also a long touchdown run accounting for another as well. In college football in the big ten and Penn State seventeen a piece at the half. Michigan state. Beat Purdue twenty three thirteen out of conference Nebraska over Bethune cookman forty five to nine as well. Northern Illinois leads BYU seven six in the third quarter in Pro Bowl. Also, South Dakota state over Illinois state, thirty eight twenty eight western Illinois beat northern Iowa thirty seven seventeen and eastern Kentucky over eastern Illinois thirty one to twenty three back to the top twenty five. Number two, Clemson going to Florida state and winning big fifty nine to ten Corey Crawford in goal for the Blackhawks tonight. They've got the blues in Saint Louis Edmonton at the United Center tomorrow and the hawks at six two and to believe it or not that's only good enough for third place right now in the tough central division. "One fifty nine the seventy two Clayton Thorson fifteen or twenty five hundred fifty nine yards one touchdown pass to interceptions. He has rushed eight times for twenty nine yards and two punched out. You gotta remember this to Jonathan here. The last time he was held at this county yardage was in the championship game for the big ten championships. Go how state fifteen carries for forty one yards and last year against us eighty three yards. So he has not been in the game. You you brought this out is not been carried the full. Like you normally would see him. They're giving it to other guys. They have not been good on the ground. But the cats have been good in their run defense. I play the fourth quarter second down and six for the Wildcats. Thirty seventy lead twenty four to ten receivers to the left side. Trae tight end, right? At a play Thorson, rolling Ryder cups pressure. Let's it go out about dick applete. Down the sidelines. It'll be second down Brayson Williams putting pressure on the quarterback Thorson. It'll be second outing third down at six I should say thirty six. Thornton was again, emphasise burn out to his right. The short side of the field. He had somebody from the backside that was really bearing down both receivers that were inside. The numbers were not opening threw it away. Cats are six of thirteen on third down third and sixth and their own thirty seven old guy in at running that author down for the Wildcats late is gonna throw your pressure right up. The middle sets up a street at through a wide a bagel thirty thirty-three from cows. And at late Thorson that time he did well to get rid of the ball. And so the cats go three and out. Yeah. Listen, if you're going to run a screen pass you wanna let the defenders in at the quarterback. So they can't go out to the flat. But you've got to hold them up a little bit. You just can't hit them go free. And that's when. So colleagues Audubon. Done for Wisconsin. Jack done is background the nineteen yard line. Twenty four to ten northwestern fourteen forty nine go. Here's the kick by colleagues floats down here hash Mark could be turned by John at the twenty to thirty thirty five. There's a penalty marker down a couple of the Dow goes dot a forty two yard line Trent goings downfield on special teams for the Wildcats. But there are heavily Barker saw the pledge. Wisconsin. Today has been penalized. O'leary returned to number forty four penalty will be assessed. The end of the kick I make it four times fourteen thirty settled go so the badgers going off bench trailing the Wildcats. Twenty four to ten. Second time the badgers had a really decent return with good field position. And then a penalty put some down inside their own twenty yard line. We saw that in the first half with their pinned on the ten. Now, they're pinned down the sixteen on the sixteen yard line. So again, a whole the penalty on the return team of the badgers and on backwards another ten yards. Well, again, they've had penalties on a couple of decent return. But you wonder if they would have had decent returns without holding. It is case that was the case. So Wisconsin down by fourteen. Doc, I checked that they they're going to put the ball. Not the sixteen down of the eight your life. Concert at the eight initially put it down to sixteen. Thirty seven to go. Got here. Ninety two yards away from the show. Today. Six seventy two yards. Taylor. I doubt Wisconsin. The zone. Scrabble. Paul recovering. What's around? Like basketball. Buckled at once got it bad public got it back, and I think a third time. And you're seeing a quarterback that has no experience. He's only had one start or is only had one I'm turning to the plate that was a year ago. And he makes too big mistakes. That one was he never got the ball to Jonathan Taylor is running back out of the eye and the cats take advantage of it again a third fumble the game a great field position. You got a cashier, right? Twenty six to go at the thirteen yard line of Wisconsin. Snapped Dorset on first down plate rolling over the middle. Caught by grades and rolls down here. A first down to the five yard line, although bar boundary. IT J Edwards. Gator bait Italy's second to at the five yard live chats. Gotta find a way to score inside the five yard line down here before red zone. Spill a bit of a challenge for the today. Second and to act the five. Wildcats leading twenty four to ten opener admitted fourth quarter. Dorsey with bows her to his right rain. The tight end left. That'll be putting up block fighting to go live stopped around the one yard line. Got a I doubt it's going to be first and goal at the law. That was all bows out there, man, he got here. All he did he lowered his patchy got low to high. He got down inside the two and he just put his head down. I should say hidden it before got all the way down to the to western Wisconsin market at the one first down goal to go. It was a really good run. So you got score from here. Read you got four shots. You gotta score. Thorson under center. With a wig till right? Of course, it causing bowser down to the true yard Lodhi eluded band in the backfield. Back to the light. Scary.

"I gotta swat want uh ticker back thank you these are two i met thorson who yup these are two of the better i don't know if you wanna come sleepers but the probably on the category sleeper type wide receivers um certainly guys that you don't want to start most weeks but in this particular week you can get away with it so dekker's coming off his best game of the season in last week's game against the colts look like he finally developed a report mario to i don't know what happened you know maybe he was the one helpings hamstring get better right he was he was a trainer in this regard um and you have robert woods who has arguably the best match up on the table one of the best matches on the table receiver opposite patrick peterson is where the designations no no justin bethel he's going to be bench richer mon williams lease s expectation coming out of cardinals camp but which these to be like better heath i i'm gonna go with decker thing with woods i i do like woods more this week than i have in the past i do the is good matchup i liked dekker's match quite a bit as well i like dekker's chance to getting it touch dumber as basically comes out yet woods is neither guys scored yet so far this season but dekker's track record suggests that he scores and scores in bunches at times on other sites where were touchdowns and the ramps is the titans uses squirm wants us although the rams i believe now they're they might be the high scoring offense of the league that they might be now everything not everything's weird yes i i i jesse didn't specify standard ppar ppar you made making argument for woods but i think decker ceilings a little bit higher andrea from buffalo your next on in fantasy football on.
