Meanwhile on the beltway through prince George's county, we're checking on the crash cleanup activity from last hour on the outer loop through lanes after the Wilson bridge. At last check was affecting the right lane, and the delays are starting to ease up just a bit. That's a good sign. We have been shouldered by now. "Tune up for only $59. Michael. Traffic and weather on the 8th to Carlos Ramirez in the traffic center. Thanks, Liz, good morning. If you're headed on 66, eastbound, the incident is a vehicle fire. Unfortunately, a handful of listeners did let us know, well, the fortunate part is that our listeners were able to help us. However, the unfortunate part is there is a vehicle fire. It's blocking multiple lanes here on the eastbound side. Now the incident is going to be on your approach towards Linden, listener actually says it's right on the bridge that takes you towards London. It sounds like the right hand side of the roadway is what is blocked with that fire department activity trying to put out that fire, likely out by now, but the listener said that the smoke from that vehicle fire was very distracting at the very least and the visibility dropped dramatically. So if you're headed eastbound soon after, the front royal exits headed past London, watch out for them over on the right hand side. Now, that's not the only thing going on. On 66, if you're headed eastbound, well, the tractor trailer was headed eastbound right as you make your approach towards the planes, it sounds like the darker trailer ended up in the median, which does have a ditch so the tractor trailers in that ditch, the response trying to get that vehicle out is on both sides of the roadway, but it sounds like they're actually on the shoulders, so no lanes are blocked. You're just going to see an awful lot of activity involving some rather large vehicles. The extra careful and try your best not to get distracted and not to crack too many ponds, but let's stay on our lane. I 95 looks good from Fredericksburg all the way up towards the Springfield interchange, but just before Frederick's spread, we got a crash. If you had a northbound on I 95 after thornburgh on your approach towards 17, sounds like the right hand side of the roadway is blocked. Carlos Ramirez WTO traffic. A Vet Explains Laryngeal Hemiplegia in Horses
"Chatting here on in the gate with Dr Norm Ducharme of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. I read about another reason that a Horse Airway can become obstructed. It's called Laurentian Hemiplegia. It's where cartilage in the windpipe becomes paralyzed and partially obstructs the flow of air. How common is this? This limit Israel. He needs please. Your problem and in a medical term is returning original. Rossi is quite common. The probably in the neighborhood of variable deranged a to invite percents of horses. thornburgh racehorse are affected with this disease. If you look at the draft horse breed it's probably closer to fifty percent that are affected by this disease and unlike the soft palate this original obstruction happens happens during installation so horses that problem getting air into their lungs as opposed to palate horses that problem getting the or the air out of the lungs. So what happens for Laryngeal Hemiplegia so this one the nerve becomes it comes standard. So they're tuners running on either side of the windpipe and both of these nerve for reason we don't understand Start to die back and I say back the muscle atrophy and the muscle being atrophying that prevents the normal symbol opening during elation to cure and so the problem getting air in during the lace. And and and. Both these condition the Pallet Orangeville. Please you the lack of oxygen is an acute determinant of the Horse's performance. Let's and cannon lead to injury because the horse could be exercising ended up fatigue state. Well that's the thing I mean. You are. Undoubtedly aware of of the scrutiny. The horse racing community is facing this year now. Most of the fatalities we hear about in racing are as you indicated earlier musculoskeletal still in nature but in your experience. What connection is there between horses who have suffered on track racing and training fatalities and potential respiratory Tori issues? It's actually a small numbers Cornell University received perform postmortem exam on Says is that euthanized on the track for whatever reason and we got to look at their airways as well as the muscular skeletal system and it's a very small percentage of horses They have this as an airway problem and have had an orthopedic problem. It's slow on the airway. Problem is so obvious that interferes with the performance of horses that almost all trainer the area would seek some kind of remedy for it rather than continue pushing a horse true that no oxygen. These horse can't run well at all of course so I mean in the bigger picture. What role does this research of your team play in the greater effort to increase that quine Kline safety and wellbeing well? It's a welfare issue that we need to understand problem and come up with remedies that are are more natural more physiological to allow the horses to able to have proper oxygen and and leases cardio vascular pulmonary system or able to deliver oxygen to the muscle that these horses have and so And both of these disease were. We've been looking for physiological solution to to resolve the problem. The upper for Amway feel as made a lot of advantages or advances. I should say because we can examine the upper airway of horses. That answer cise with us go so we could see during the training phase. What is really happening to the upper airway? And then once you got the diagnosis. And we've been focusing on finding the cost. We can find more physiological response whether it's between the horse with a power alad problem or the transplant on Earth to fix a horse that has a problem to his larynx. But yeah it is is a large problem. The industry and what a few of us are trying to figure known for all help program nationally that would allow proper opera prescreening of horses to identify not horses that have Fractures but before that horses that have underline bone changes. For whatever reason whether it's training related or reading related the Hor- ground related Ed or respiratory related and trying to make the proper at outpatient in changes to reposition the horses in the right access so they can compete successfully and more orderly say Dr Norm Ducharme as part of the team at Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. That's been researching this breathing issue. Thank you so much for sharing the results of this study with

U.S. youth rally in Washington protests climate inaction
"It all started with sixteen year old environmental activists, Greta thune Berg last August Thornburgh started skipping school in Friday's to protest outside Sweden's parliament, insisting her country get behind the Paris climate agreement. Her protests have inspired thousands of young people around the world to join Fridays for future. That's a hashtag Fridays for future movement skipping school Fridays to demand that their governments take action against climate change. And today those young people are taking steps. Well, a step further joining together across more than ninety countries twelve hundred cities for a global youth climate strike, it's happening in cities across the world as we speak, including here in New York where we have our guests. Eric Kaplan science reporter for the Washington Post on the scene in Manhattan's Columbus circle. Hi, sarah. Hey, IRA, tell us what the scene is like where you are. How many students are there? What's going on? We could probably hear in the background noise. It had pretty busy. I guess there are about a thousand if not more. You didn't hear lots of them have posters. They're chanting. You know, we are the youths. We are the future we want climate change action on climate change now. And yeah, they're they've been sort of pouring in from all over New York. There were ten protests around the city this morning. Noor kind of coalescing at this rally here at Columbus circle headed how did he get organized? There was it all online and people know to come yet. So a lot of it is online here in New York. The protests really started with a young thirteen year old named Alexandria of in your she has been protesting in front of the United Nations headquarters every Friday inspired by Lindberg, and she is part of one of the national leaders of the US climate strike movement. And so, you know, they offend organizing online. But also a lot of inhabit organically people find out about it because they thought on Reddit or Twitter or they read a newspaper article, and they're like, well, I want to organize a strike in front of my school or in front of Brooklyn borough hall. Do you have any students there? We might speak with. Yeah. I see so Simone is right here. I'm gonna get the phone to her. Hi. Hi there. Welcome to science Friday. Tell us about why. You're there. I'm here because climate change is an issue. That's real very real and our elected officials and. Aren't doing anything about it? And. We may not at this age has a chance to put in a ballot vote. But we still have a voice, and this is how we're going to use it at get across. Message that changes coming whether they like it or not like Greta fed, and we're ready to take action and do whatever it takes. The letter voice be heard and make a difference on the world. Do you? Do you have the support of your teachers or parents and doing this because I understand you're thirteen? Yeah. So my parents are in full support of best. And some of my teachers are at one of my teachers my humanities teacher. Actually, here's the one who inspired us to start striking school because he got us into this and was teaching us about Greta and how out santeria strikes every Friday, and he's been folks affordable. Do you think that you can have any real influence on the future of climate change? I think so because every person can make a difference every price invoice matters at if you think that your voice doesn't matter. Then no one's ever gonna make a difference. And no one's ever gonna change. Because as everyone thinks that nothing's ever going to happen. And. Everything adds up. Everything makes a difference in the ad that I think that's why it has already grown so much. If you look at how many people are even here today and across the world, it's really inspiring.
