Fresh update on "thor" discussed on The Joe Rogan Experience

"I don't say it in my book. When you did say it's the only diets been shown to reverse heart disease. And i really think it has but the burden of the burden of proof is to give me one study were. It's not that's not true. Well so i've i've made the clive. Prove me wrong. There's a lot of factors that led to reversing that heart disease. And i think when you look at all those factors particularly the eliminating sugar we know is a toxic substance the adding of exercise the eliminating of oils. All these different things that we know are not good for you. I think those are contributing factor. If you wanted to say it's been that a whole foods plant based diet plus eliminating all these toxic things have been shown to reverse heart disease. I'd be right there with you good. That's what i'm saying. Everybody eliminates that part including you know left that out. Well when you said it you said whole food plant based diet. You didn't say eliminating all these things that have known that have been shown to cause heart disease show. What is a whole foods diet. You go to whole foods. Whole food. Diet is actual whole foods fruits and vegetables being so it's not sugar. It's not oil. So when i say a whole foods plant based diet i mean no sugar. No refined grains no oil. None of the shit that you're talking about the whole foods exercise plus these people eliminated. They're eating before the gave them heart. Disease astle stint studies were only dietary based. He was a whole foods plant based low fat diet. And if you read my chapter on heart disease and and the whole foods diet you know what. I'd love to have this conversation with you some to other even diet based you're still eliminating all these toxic things exactly right. That's a good thing. So no one has proven that a whole foods plant based diet along with those toxic things like if you if you had all the good foods that we know whether it's you know animal foods mollusks all different things if if we could just all come to an agreement. There's things that people eat than we've been eating particularly the last few decades in this country. That are just bad for ya. We promised we get into these ideological discussions of meat versus plants. And this is where things people tend to sort of gravitate towards one side of the other ignore all the different different aspects of this conversation. Like what we're talking about here with eliminating sugar exercise if you said a whole foods plant based diet plus adding exercise and eliminating food that we know to be toxic is better for you. There's not a single person who's going to argue that the problem is everybody says it's a whole foods plant based diet that this is what's the good but it's i think was doing. The good is a lot of things so exercise. Eliminating toxic foods like sugar and all his vegetable oil novel. Bosh wholefoods diet eliminates those things. So that's redundant your whole diet. It's not going to have sugar refined grains or oil in it because those aren't a whole foods understood but the problem is that i do want to people. Were taking those those consuming those bad things before. I wanna put the challenge. I want you to just because i think call with also stands work on heart. Disease is worth looking at for you. Because he didn't do anything but diet so he didn't have exercise in it program. You didn't have stress reduction. He didn't have Meditation or anything else in there he just had diet. It was a whole foods. Plant based low. Fat diet did reverse heart disease. It's so he's clearly eliminated all those other aspects. It's all foods plant based diet so royal toxins because whole foods right so let's see let me think convenient. That's the thing that's conveniently left out. You can say whole foods plant based diet but it's not just that it's eliminating toxic food. Yes it's not just eating good food so what we need to do what you need to do or you need to come up with some evidence for somebody needs to that you can throw in. My face is a whole foods. Meat based diet has eliminates all these toxins will also reverse heart disease right. You can do that then. I'll remember we talked about the lease earlier that they're just a suit of clothes. You produce that evidence. I'll take off the suit of clothes. Because i i'm actually about being intellectually having intellectual integrity. I've come to my conclusions. Based on my own dispassionate. Study so If you produce the evidence. I'll probably change my mind. What do you think i'm gonna. What do you think people are doing wrong when they're eating a vegan diet and they have all these health problems. They're eating junk food vegan diet not eating a whole foods. They're eating junk food. That's they're eating all these toxic foods that were talking about. That's not everybody. Chris hemsworth was eating like he was having vegan. He was having plant based shakes morning and eating whole foods and he started developing all these kidney stones and lot oscillates. I have no idea if he's having a problem. Oxalate chances are he was eating a lot of a huge amount of green vegetables. Sure yeah eating too. Large quantities as oxalate sin. It could cause problems in your kidneys. So all i know is that i've been doing this. Listen chris hemsworth there was liam right. Which was thor thors. Chris yes the other one liam store. I love it. You gotta go that way. So but one we joe what we agree on. Let's go back to what we agree. What we agree on is we should be not eating all this crap. Yes we agree. We agree on that. I think we agree that we should eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Yes yes sure then. We agree on ninety percent of it. Then it's a question of how much animal foods are good for us and that's where that's where we may differ but probably not even that far apart there because i'm saying you can eat some animal foods and have a really healthy healthy diet and lifestyle. It's a question of how much and it's are certain point. I believe that the the saturated fats cholesterol from animal foods will begin to clog up your arteries and it's not that they cause cancer but they can be. I believe cancer promoters at least you know has also been proven is a big issue with eating cholesterol along with comp simple carbohydrates and things. I'm with you since we agree on the subra hydrates. We have to argue with you and i. We are sympathetic. Oh we sink on that. Cut the sugar out. Cut the cutback. What about oil. How do you feel about that one. Well i'm not a big fan of vegetable oils. Good yeah is there any other kind of well. Yeah i mean you could have animal oils me. I actually cooking beef or you may like boothby talent butter. Yeah i was thinking oils. But they're fat. Yeah well beef. Tallow renders down into oil right. It's I think that there's a lot of people consuming a lot of process. Shit i think this is where we absolutely meet in the middle. Whether it's vegetable process shit like i have a friend who's vegan who eats all kinds of wacky vegan delights. All these little treats all this. Read this fucking ingredients garbage preservatives and nonsense and but it's vegan so it's it's ideologically acceptable right now. Things fall into these they fall into these little groups like this this aligns with my religion so many eat this earth. Plenty on the on the Paleo kito there's lots of little groups on the animal food side to chore so everybody it's almost like diet. In fact this might be more interesting. Discussion unite baton. Each other on about this one..

EP 36 - Servicing with a smile - OS bug

"I went through and broke out kind of Thor's hammer here and went through what I would call some significant efforts so far as into going into turning off my internet connection booting into safe mode and deleting system files that are normally locked when you're not in safe mode because the the OS had them locked because it was trying to do an update. It's like can access this file on the thing too busy using it. Well when you're in safe mode the OS isn't necessarily using those files are not live. So then I can delete some of it involves a few scripts and some handiwork and Powershell and I got everything deleted reboot it back into the normal OS out of safe mode and also it's just cruising along 1% 2 percent 3% And as soon as you hit 3% I knew that I had bypassed I was like, okay, so hopefully there was something good there and so the bug that I had opened because not only did I file the feedback. And made sure it converted over into a bug. I went through it added the specific files that were hung during the lock that I couldn't access to delete as well as the steps that I had used to go through it leaves my decided to go into safe mode. I use this script to do this, right it provided as much detail as I could and it turns out there was actually an os-level bug of a condition where one of us was waiting for another process to end, but the other process would already ended and so it was looking at it like hey, what are you doing in the other things? Like I'm just checking it out hanging out. What are you doing? Right now? He's like, well, I'm expecting the first process like I'm expecting you to do this, but the second process doesn't know to tell the first one. Oh, I'm already finished. It's literally just waiting for a status update and the second process is sitting back on the beach, you know, I you know have it in my package and so the first process of sitting there looking at the watch just waiting and waiting and so as the end user I'm just staring at this little thing stuck at 2% right and it was never going to make progress place. Hold the logs that I shared zip straight down to what the problem was the process that I used helped them identify the fix even faster and roll singers the bugs already fixed, right you got prioritized because of what the impact was going to be isn't it actually made it out to not only the larger Insider population. But of course if it ever made it out to retail, can you imagine you know, right from large number of folks sitting around the world staring at 2% on their screen going just saying folks that I'm sitting here like going back to my as your days and thinking about how many as your customers would be setting you know off so a little bit of a good news story right a little bit of a

"Time. This allowed thorn to generate time portals and travel through time now. Thorne jane of accomplished legendary feats with miller. The second enchantment by which thor returns to its wheeler is particularly powerful and allows for some really fun and creative owns and feats because this enchantment is not limited by distance now four was still tied to his donald. Blake alter ego being separated for the hammer for sixty seconds would cause him to revert to the alternate identity with all blake. Therefore mueller had to return within that span of time and it's thought that it it managed to accomplish this using its ability to create portals francis. One time in a huff. Thor through his hammer to the edge of the galaxy and it returned to his hand in like five seconds trip. Five seconds unbelievable disability torn turns into basically a smart missile with inter dimensional properties. In the infinity crossover event one of the builders. These alien bad guys of the story demands that thor disarm and kneel before him so thor goes okay and he was kind of like pops the hammer up into the sky goes flying out of the out of the planet's atmosphere and sore kneels before the builder and the bill is all villains. Must take the opportunity to speechifying. Meanwhile the hammer is doing a full circuit of the local son is screaming around the sun. It's slingshots back. Accelerating through the sun's gravity and explodes through the shocked builders torso to land snugly in his hand really just jaw dropping moment january twenty four number one opens with the god of thunder standing in asgard sewing. You'll hear through all the realms every single realm to boots. I am monster on earth. Killing it in front of the stunned is of tony and cap and the rest of the offenders who are sitting there on mars marzan. Tony goes anybody ever sharpie and they write a message on meal near so that when it returns to four you can read. It was really fun love now. Of course. Thor can fly by allowing. You'll need to pull him behind it now. Canonical his speed. In earth's atmosphere tops. Out at like seven hundred and seventy miles per hour or about the speed of sound out of earth's atmosphere however there are many examples of thuerer traveling. What must be faster than light. By mueller just incredibly powerful away to travel the worthiness chapman has some fun applications as well as we saw in the vendors even the hulk with his infinite strength. Can't lift mueller meaning. Jesse did low key in the first film. The god of thunder could theoretically pin the hulk or even thanos to the ground simply by laying the hammer on their chest. And of course when you're weapon is a sentient magical hammer. Looks like a nail. Even cosmic super giants. Thor has taken on some of the most powerful forces in the mouth marvel universe and bash them quite effectively in the face with his incredible hammering. Mighty thor jane foster goes toe to toe with odin himself for once knocked out a celestial. He staggered gladys with one hammer. Strike during dan. Jurgens and john ramirez juniors late nineties stretch on thor. The god of thunder beat up the immortal scourge of all god man gog and thanos the mad titan in back to back fashion. You'll know it is very strong. Let's not forget the storm generating powers in the mighty. Thor jane is transported to the shire home world to compete in a contest of sorts between the shire. God's shara and kit three in a battle of feats. I thought the shire gods were frodo. And sam weiss married shirish shy are excuse. Sharon kittery create a massive soon nami which is about to wipe out thousands if not millions of people on the shire home world and chain stops it by conjuring a storm powerful enough to send an entire this entire mountain range worth of water up into the air and out of sight and the same story arc. Jane releases the mother storm. Inside mueller to swallow up a whole comet mueller. It's more than just a hammer folks. Unbelievable one of my single favorite objects and all of the marvel verse though. Hello would look at that and say we i mean that lets you know how strong hell it how powerful she is. She just crushes it with one little. That was awesome mel. She does not belong here on as god anymore. That goats belongs at a banquet table. That is unnecessary. Really bad but the nuggets belong here with us. It's time to collect six of our favourite insights and observations from this film like so many infinitives. As i will go first number one. The dark world really does a solid job of explaining malicous origin and salvaging the dark house villainous nature but his visual trademark doesn't appear until midway through the film thor rushing to the scene to save jane foster arrives just in time to see curse stab queen frigate in the back enraged the god of thunder calls on lightning scarring. Half of malik face. This is a reference to malik. It's half darkened face from the comics. The source of this dark mark was revealed in two thousand fourteen god of thunder number twenty five the final issue of the title. We learned that young malik was sold into slavery by his mother for two sacks of snake livers and a half barrel of pickled toads. Yikes in a seat reminiscent of brandon. Sanderson's the way of kings malik finds himself sharing a cage with several other enslaved persons including a wizard in return for some roasted worm. The wizard helps malachy escape. Eight takes the young dark elf on as his apprentice mouth becomes a powerful wizard in his own right. And then one morning over breakfast. The wizards like you know what i got an idea. Let's use our power to unite the clans and ends fart lines destructive wars once and for all and then keels over dead because malikov considers that such a bad idea that he's caused all the knives on the table to float up and stab the wizard in the fucking back. I know what you are was crooks as he lays dying too late for me a dozen knives in his back and before i die i will ensure that everyone who ever sees you will though as well and with the last drops of his life blood. The wizard casts a spell which scars half of his face. What a way to use your final moments. My goodness tough stuff. Okay because we are once again running along. They were go faster from here. True lightning rod style the rest the way number two the curse malcolm says in the film quote new power enemies possess can stop you. Show how sean exactly is curse as we see in this film. He stronger than asgard. Defenses stronger than four even strong enough to survive a blow from meal near he both class one hundred strength and according to the official the marvel universe comics curse could be twice as strong as thor though like all of his fellow. Dark elves is a strange weakness to iron. I wonder if that could be problematic in the marvel. Canon at any point this means of course that while he was able to withstand meal nears blast he and his fellows experienced diminished powers in the face of iron and you can probably guess how comics mallika feels about our pella ironman as a result number three. Is that cords music. The official mcu cannon korg key member of folks rebound from legendary planet. Hulk comics run interest. Cinematic universe in thor ragnarok and hangs around and play video games an endgame but in dark world the giant rock monster. Thor shatters. With mueller on van. Heim is also a cronin and despite the vastly different vibes that you. Cronin's in the fact that thor turn one into gravel including producer. Steve have long wondered if that was core. Gone van hyman in two thousand fourteen film. School rejects observed that the dvd commentary cronin in question is in fact court again. This is not absolute cannon but it would make the ragnarok appearance a real wreck calm and prior meeting neither character caused but a fun nugget nonetheless love this nugget. If you boot up. Dark all dvd and load the commentary track and then turn on your subtitles deduces dock and you can see that. Kevin foggy says quote and seeing the rock monster. Korg who fans may know that this character is also known as the stone man from saturn. Stone men from saturn..

"A doozy. Mary van can sometimes be a heavier burden. Embattled to a doll astutely replies. Then you're doing one of them incorrectly. I love that so sage. When heimdahl peop- in fails to reveal jane or heads star last. That's what it took and this very silly slapping sequence ensues right here where you me. Jane says when thorpe houser. Hey i've been asking heimdahl to spy on you and i couldn't find you tonight. She just really glosses over the fact that the reveals that he has been spying on her not even directly asking doll display on her ram. Ring night so this is not dead away from me. You fucking weirdo. It's why didn't you come back soon or or can't win here. Is families annoyed with him for harping on jane's with him for focusing on the nine realms being got under very difficult at least ultimately they end up together again. Here back on asgard. And when. Thor explains the convergence to jane and the role of yourself and all of this he does in the language of connections. Their hands are together is moving their fingers. Apart together borders alignments breaches separations. Eric distressingly as we see is reduced to explaining all this his care facility using stanley shoe as a prop during the alignment. Eric says everything is connected all nine realms all nine realms passing through each other and gravity laid even matter is crashing from one world to the other but this happens to us now. The result will be cataclysmic. My grandma metrics can stabilize the focal point of the convergence. Now again in terms of plot mechanics does not ideal when you're film's climax hinges on an explanation that dude gives in gym shorts while holding other people sneakers and then pencils so as you want but the mad at least it is rich because eric has gone full circle going from doubter to convince her in while the world's only fleetingly linked to the people on them are meant to be joined. That is one of the messages of the worst story in thor films. Like darcy and eric when she indian spring him not only from his facility from from that fog. The support of a trusted friend helping him regain the bearings that he lost in isolation. that's the most charitable read. We can make him late of earlier criticism or the thing. That is worse than isolation as eric says. Loki i've had a guide in my brain. Eric tells the an. I don't recommend it. Low doesn't recommend falling in love with mortals by the way that heart to heart. We discussed earlier also featured this trench in exchange about the perils of leading attachments in a non transitory life. But i could do. With the power that flows through those veins it would consume. She's holding up all right fa. Now stroman ways. You'd never even know. Say goodbye this day this day. The next hundred years is nothing hawk. Beat you'll never be ready. The only woman who love you prized where we snatched from will that satisfy you satisfaction stop by nature.

"Store keep his hammer. It is yours. He says when thor offers it up maybe because he knows that taking it back with completely unveil on cloak his treachery the maybe because despite it all as we will eventually see he does care for. It belongs to you. If you are worthy of it. I shall try to be. Let's talk for just a few minutes here about the lovebirds jane. Thor and that loyal crew. Dr san eric. Listen folks families are families can be tough but they are also where we learn how to have relationships how he learned about love thors getting the hard pressed not only from oden but from lady says if it does not go unnoticed that you disappear each night there nine realms the future king of asgard must focus on more than one. His affection for jane is presented by those closest to him as this weird failing kind of like a habit. He can't shake something just out of the ordinary that no one can quite understand the aspects of his life are are deeply entwined he is able to fulfill his duty because he opened his heart but his heart is leading him inexorably away from that duty jane. Meanwhile trying to move on trying to date to absolutely little success poor richard. They're only three menu choices here. Folks and darcy richard. Can we get some wine please. Darcy shied loves them legend. What the following orders boots. The rebound after four tough gene is hammer. And there's a hammer. Jane is on that date with richard in london. Of course because eric asked her at darcy to come to gelling them to follow his research. Remember that none of this. Was eric natural inclination. I'm telling you about science not magic. He told jane and the first floor film. He doubted and now he's facing a world where he can't break through. The doubt with which others are greeting his notions source. Green someone heimdahl after the victory. Feast every night. We learn with.

"What makes you think you can trust me. I don't dora's mother did and he makes this big bold speech about how he no longer harbours hope for locals. Redemption is ready for a betrayal and will kill loki if such a moment comes and is equal to that moment. Unveiling a string of illusions are very amusing sequence that features safe and really fun as guard and thors new bell captain america. Hey do you wanna have a rousing discussion about truth. Honor patriots his love that part so much but then on their escape vessel. The conversation turns to a less jovial note. You think you alone were loved mother. Thor says you had her tricks. But i had her trust low. He says trust was that her last expression. Trust when you let her die. What help were you in yourself or says who put me there. Who put me there. You know damn well hill. This is a great scene not because they blame each other but because they actually both blame themselves they have shared this life together and it has not always been easy peaceful or call more harmonious but the recent events have torn their family completely asunder. Their low for free is one of the only things that still unites force plan on fertile. Heim the dark world is to be blunt an absolute disaster. He got mallika. The wave massacre good and the eighth or out of jayne good but he lost the either to malik bad and as odin feared even worse is going to hear it from dad and even more shamefully. He let loki trick him again. Here's the thing this is. There's no excuse. there's just flat out. no because never take the cuffs off. Of course there's gonna be a good reason to take the cuffs off. He's the god of lies that's what he does just ever take them off. Because what's going to happen. Europe falling for the fucking okie. Doke just like i'll tell father. Would she did here too as he believes looking live did i didn't do him for like a monthly blonde fiddle right year until the last but on rewatch this even knowing the true nature of carries more weight knowing how loki will actually sacrifice himself fourth or infinity word. And how. Thor will mourn him but the closeness the closure that loki. Thor temporarily found even through. That veil of deception has not wise and thorn does not realize that he is talking to loki masquerading as father the end of the film. This is just brutal. I'd rather be a good man than a great king thor tells. Would you go with load in like low code and her food info and maybe we'll mix it up one son who wanted the throne too much other who will not take it. Is this my legacy foden and asks. Loki died with ana for replies. I should try to do the same. If not look just sitting there absolutely eating this up loving it. I would of course would say that legacy is what you pass onto your children. The chiltern book just chat about the impact of their lives together but while owed is of course we will learn and ragnarok secretly stashed away in a retirement home and then he'll make norway eventually loki despite laying out this ruse actually reveals a small moment of what i at least will choose to receive as tenderness. How did we name our days and establish the weekend?

"All right. Welcome to the podcast. So this topic stems from a conversation. I had with our thirteen year. Old son pete a couple of weeks ago on monday afternoon as we drove home from basketball practice. Pete was lamenting the fact that the weekend had gone by so quickly and decided that weekend should be four days long and the workweek or in his case. The school week should only be three days. that sounds about right. Yep so this conversation naturally led to the questions who decided how long the weekend should be and how were the days named that. I thought was a perfect topic for this podcast. And that's pretty good. See that's exactly why we came up with this podcast. We wanted to answer these kinds of questions that we know people have every day right. I mean it really is perfect. So let's start with how the days of the week were named. And i know honey. You've been researching this so go ahead and start us off. Okay be glad to so. Let me begin by saying that. Each of the various resources. I found on. This topic had some variations but generally they were all in agreement and really. That's not unusual for our research. So i'm going to present a version that is a sort of a homogenized version of all of these. Okay that makes it okay. So prior to christianity specifically in the days of the babylonians there were several pagan. Gods running around doing things with thunder and lightning and water and stuff like that. That was probably a pretty interesting time. So at the same time the babylonians were also very into studying our planets and the moon and the sun and placed a lot of importance on these heavenly bodies So at some point between around nine thousand nine hundred bc and five forty bc. The babylonians decided that there would be seven days a week and that they'd be named after the five known planets plus the sun and the moon since the sun and the moon were the best known in the most important they would start the week So back then and still today. They started the week with sunday and then monday followed. So the first two are obvious. Sunday in mundi right but then they went in order of the slowest to fastest in the earth's sky. So tuesday was named after mars wednesday after mercury thursday after jupiter and friday after venus. Okay those don't sound anything like our days except in spanish they do well. They don't see on anything like our english days. Yes yes and there is a distinction here. Okay because that has to do with two things one language and the pay to the pagan gods gotta in the language of the day. They were basically saying mars is day right. Mercury's day and so on. But when the anglo saxons invaded great britain which was much more recent on the world or timelines they decided to swap out the planet names for their god's names. Okay so you take over from here alright. So these more. Recent folks left sunday and monday alone but they named tuesday after the norse god of justice to t i w they named wednesday after the most powerful norse god odin or warden and widens day eventually morphed into wednesday. It's a little bit of a stretch right but that also helps explain the weird spelling of wednesday which i've never understood. These are all based on the old english form of the english language. Yes thursday if you think in terms of famous pagan gods you can probably figure out. Third equals thor right so thursday is the perfect day to get out and do some hammering on carpenters. Really love thursdays. They're big right. Finally friday was named after odin 's wife frigg which is a very unfortunate name so frig f. r. i g. g. was said to be nearly as powerful as her husband so she got her own day. Frig day eventually became friday. And for some reason i forgot to mention saturday which is horrible. Because saturday's the best day saturday is named after again. You can figure it out if you go back to the planet's part sadder saturday saturn's day so is named after the planet saturn. We didn't change and we didn't change that to a god right because saturday's the best day we don't wanna change. Don't make it not the best right. So you've got saturday sunday and monday. That remain named after heavenly bodies in the rest or named after norse gods yup and there you go there. There's your week boom

"How a true warrior fights shall be in the forefront of each attack death to the forces of evil victory to turtle. Asgard thor himself. Methinks he mostly wish a brief vacation your wife and fifteen offspring but what it was. It was nineteen sixty five in a few richly illustrated panels lean kirby establish full stags character and role within the marvel universe. Full stag is comic relief right. The funny big guy as lee admits. He's inspired by one of the earliest examples of comic relief in the english language william shakespeare's john falstaff the braggart bacchus like lowlife pub dwelling rack onto her companion of prince. Hal the future king. Henry v both are depicted as jolly and big bellied like if santa claus carried a sword and love to tell body tales. He's often shown using his sheer size as a weapon sitting on foes do he belly flops onto enemies. And so on. Now fantail the dashing is our swashbuckler. A master swordsman with the look. The pencil moustache in the van dyke beard and fighting style of errol. Flynn or douglas fairbanks. In one of their famous movies. You know swashbuckler. In journey into mystery. Number one. Twenty two a mutiny. Inspired by loki of course breaks out on the aforementioned ship the warriors. Three side with thor fangio takes on a dozen fighters at one time with ease. Narration reads with a dazzling style of master in the gay. Abandon of care for youth. Fan wral fights like a true ally of thor hogan the grim based purely on charles bronson has a long drooping moustache and he wears the fur-lined tunic in helmet of a warrior from the eurasian steppes as his appalachian suggest hogan. Is you know not really a cheerful guy. Man a few words and even fewer facial expressions he is very very very rarely depicted doing anything but just grimacing very dour his weapon of choice as a spiked mace which wheels with savage for rochas energy. Now over the years. There have been a few times when he can be seen smiling and the effect is really great. You just never forget it when you seem smile. My personal favorite is new mutants special edition number one thousand nine hundred eighty five in which the young mutants sunspot who has been transported to asgard by chicanery again involving loki ineffective superstar. He's been hanging out in a bar right and he has found out that you know. He derives his super strength from the sun. And i guess the as guardian son. Is this a lot stronger so now. He's a lot stronger here at as guard. And he's been hanging out in this pub and just beating guys up for fun the warriors three show up because they've heard there's this little guy guard perhaps who's beating everyone up and he's stronger than everybody in full like this. They show up. Volts stag challenges sunspot to lift him while he sits in a chair. This sunspot managed to do but he also tears his insides up like he'd get hurt by doing this. And in amazement faneuil and hogan look on hogan the grim with a hint of a smile etched across his face. Really great moment. What about lady. Sieff lady sieff is a fierce warrior. Defender of asgard a shield maiden a favourite of odin got very warm spot in his heart for her unlike other as guardians. Sieff has been shown to have the power to teleport now. This hasn't really been used in recent years. But she used to be able to do this as thor puts it in thor one thirty nine now has the power to reach asgard to bypass space and time. She is based on the norse goddess sieff. Who in the midst is sometimes presented as thors wife in the comics. If is often been depicted as having at unrequited crush on thor although at other times he seems quite too fancy her as well and being generally confused by thors attraction to the human gene foster. She just doesn't get it. What the human from mitch. Guard y your grace your grace. He was interested during walt simonson. Legendary thouron sift became involved with the alien hero beta ray bill whose nobility allowed him to shockingly lift the hammer of thor and claim the power of thunder for himself now every as guardian is basically a superhuman so when when doctor strange open those portals for the final battle at the end of end game and all the as guardians were hanging out in norway poured out realize they they just pulled like three hundred superhumans like into the fray each can lift just a normal as garden. Something like thirty tons and up. They're not quite immortal but their lives are so long that it's functionally. That's what they are and all that time. Being alive allows them to accrue thousands of years of expertise in a given field making them excellent warriors their dense bones and musculature provide a heightened resilience against attack though. Blades and bullets can harm them. And of course they have heightened stamina speed and agility. Let's talk briefly about the nine realms in the comics there are actually ten realms now this is a recent developmental gets that in a second first. Let's deal with the standard nine as they appear in this film alvheim as guard van. Heim yoting hyme need lear. I m nikolai multiple. High.

"But it's not talking to docile young. Tom and lancaster is. You of course the born to be kings line is quite literal. As we'll learn. Lucas shoe parentage makes him the rightful heir of another thrown yoting himes. Instead of acknowledging that truth and nurturing instincts it might inspire odin conceals it from loki and the nobility of his intentions don't diminish the eventual cost of the choice or the reality of day after day. I've just as odin his asking for if he's prepared to give up all his selfish ambitions a condition to which he agrees without hesitation. But the impulse for selfishness is not always conscious. And it certainly isn't was thor. It's intertwined with the fundamental question of worth thor as we see as he challenges his father in the vault and we'll see again when he sets out to yoting. Hyman defiance of his father's council is rash and hasty ear for action and glory but not yet measured or steady enough to think of long range consequences or costs not to mention motivation. You're thinking only as a warrior. How Does Captain America's Shield Work?

How Does Captain America's Shield Work?

"The official marvel comics database says that Captain America's shield is a metal disc that's approximately two point five feet in diameter and weighs twelve pounds. But Rhett Lane at wired magazine did some math and figured out that it would be more likely to weigh forty three point nine pounds despite the shield being made of a unique alloy combining vibrant. NEOM, which is. A fictional metal steel in an unknown third component. Elaine also figured out that the density of the shield would be somewhere between eight, thousand, seven, hundred, sixty, seven, and four, thousand, three, hundred, eighty, three kilograms per meter cubed. That is somewhere between the density of iron and titanium. Now in the Captain America Comics Story goes that Dr. Myron McLean was attempting to replicate Hercules Golden Mace fusing. Vibrant NEOM with an experimental iron alloy some say it was a steel alloy but even McLean didn't know what it was because he fell asleep when an unknown catalyst was introduced to the process he was never able to duplicate the process. So the government painted the disk and gave it to Captain America. But how would you forge such a thing? Especially since metallurgy is so complicated just The forging temperature alone depends on the materials carbon content. It's alloy composition maximum plasticity in the amount of reduction required. Was it heated by induction or by continuous fuel fired furnaces with material this unique you'd have to carefully control the heating process. Now, Ford ability is how easy or difficult material resists de formation and since Captain America's shield is indestructible, it would have to be a very Narrow forging temperature range meaning it could only be forged for a short time after heating with metallurgical factors like crystal structure chemical composition in grain-size at play the only way McLean could have diminished their influence would-be by adding alloying wants possibly compounds that easily dissolved with the metal. There are all types of elements that could have been introduced, but it's likely the captain America's shield was forged. Like a super alloy, this is how metallurgist refer to iron base nickel base in cobalt based alloys. Specifically, the ones that offer very high strength at high temperatures. These really high strength metals and iron based grades are the least difficult wants to work with. So that would narrow down Mcclain's experimental alloy to iron super-alloys are really difficult to forge because of their narrow temperature range you can't. Even use regular sizing presses in hammers on them because they will deform. They even wear down the tools designed for forging them pretty easily. They're also extremely expensive like ten times. The price of carbon steel sounds a lot like captain America's shield right. But how do we explain the shields ability to absorb kinetic energy supposedly from the vibe rhenium in the alloy usually materials absorb kinetic energy. Through other mechanisms like plastic or elastic deformation or dynamic fluid flow but cap shield doesn't seem to be an elastic metric material and it's not organic like polyurethane in the movies it actually seems to reflect vibration rather than absorb it like when thor hits with Mueller in that first avengers movie and the shockwave flattens a whole forest. Perhaps that was because the shield reached its absorption limit. Another thing that's tough to explain his how aerodynamic the shield is. If it really weighed forty three point, nine pounds, it would be difficult to throw even for a guy in peak physical condition like Steve Rogers the comics Tony Stark actually puts electromagnet under the shield to help control it in mid flight but captain America later ditched them because they upset the shields natural balance it seems like the soldier and the shield are made for each other.

Mexico Records The Highest Number Of Health Care Worker Deaths From COVID-19

"Taken a heavy toll on health care workers around the world. Amnesty International reports that Mexico has recorded the highest number of health care worker deaths from the Corona virus. 1400. NPR's carry con reports on how that country came to lead the world in this grim statistic. It's a regular scene in the courtyard of the sea Glowing, you know, medical complex in Mexico City. Dozens of the public hospital staff break into applause to encourage patients struggling with covert and honor. Those who died and there are many. Mexico now ranks fourth in the world and deaths from the virus and of the nearly 700,000 infected. One in seven has worked at a hospital or clinic. Like an angel Gutierrez, a pediatric nurse, the sick element, you know, hospital. He first felt covert symptoms back in July, I I felt really bad. My whole body heard I had a terrible headache. And then I infected my wife and two girls, he says. As his two weeks of paid sick leave was running out. He was tested a second time again Positive, but five days later, he was ordered back on the job. I guess we can still infect others at that point, says Gutierrez. But he says by then his symptoms weren't that bad. Two months later, though, he still have a cough. There are many reasons why so many health professionals in Mexico are getting sick and dying. Lack of quality protective equipment long work weeks that extend exposure to high viral loads, and Mexico quickly hired tens of thousands of professionals to boost staffing. Critics say they haven't gotten proper training. Sofia Ramirez of the nonprofit Mexicans against Corruption says in the early days of the pandemic, healthcare workers were dying at rates five times higher than in the US If we don't take care of her health personnel, I'm not sure how they're going to take care of Oliver. The numbers have improved somewhat in recent weeks. But health care workers still account for nearly 16% of all infections in the country. This month, Dr Theresa at the end, head of the Pan American Health organization made an urgent plea. Countries must ensure that have workers can do their job safely. Carlos Eduardo Perez Palma, a radiologist couldn't agree more He says he spends at least $1500 on protection equipment for himself. Goggles, masks face shield every three months. He works at two of the biggest public hospitals in Mexico City. Paris also leads a group of health care workers fighting for workplace protections. Thor, it is like to call us heroes. But in practice, they sure don't eat of the heroes. Mexican authorities insist their covert protocols are up to international standards, and they dispute that the country ranks first in the world for covert deaths among health care workers. In a briefing, the government's lead epidemiologist Jose Luis Alla, Mia, said it's unfair to make this claim because, he asserted Not all countries report deaths among medical staff and fed among men whose government eat five years. Salome is a data show healthcare workers actually don't get a sick or dyas frequently from Cove. It has the general population. But his data may be misleading because of Mexico's low rate of testing. Mexicans are generally tested on Lee after their hospitalized with serious symptoms, but healthcare workers are supposed to get tested as soon as they feel sick. Mexico's Health Ministry declined to respond to NPR's questions and interview requests. Doctor

Face shields, masks with valves ineffective against COVID-19 spread: study

"Our face shields better than masks when it comes to protecting yourself from Corona virus. Here's our health reporter Doctor Deanna Law, Thor Surgical masks are more effective than clear plastic face shields or masks with valves in preventing the spread of covert 19. That's according to a study in the journal Physics of Fluids, The researchers used a hollow mannequin head and simulated a cough or sneeze, then used laser sheets to trace the expelled droplets. They found the face. Shields were able to block that initial forward motion off the exhaled airborne particles. However, the expelled droplets were able to move around the visor with relative ease, and some of the large droplets were able to pass through the velvet face masks. The CDC recommends cloth face coverings as a way to slow the spread of Kobe

Ucsb student told her friends she had gone shopping and never returned then. Marianne Sarah's a nineteen year old waitress vanished after an appointment at health center. Both women had presumably been hitchhiking which was commonplace. Then when Patty learned of these abductions she joined others in protest to raise awareness and carry signs touting messages like free bus service for those in need and night service on all buses. If the women could have hopped a bus with their fate have been different women. Drivers were urged to quote pickup. A sister eager to help patty handed out missing person fliers featuring Jacqueline and Marianne then one night she left play. Practice for a class hitching a ride from a young man who seemed harmless in broad daylight or perhaps forced her away from the bus stop where she was last seen when she failed to show up for her Peter Pan Performance. Her friends knew something was terribly wrong. Decades later her close friend and cast mate. Ron Bender still choked up talking about Patty in the two thousand thirteen British TV series born to kill. He said it's weird when you have a friend. Were there rehearsing twice a week? And all of a sudden. They're just not there anymore. They're gone he and Patty were close. He said talking about her as though they had been rehearsing lines together just yesterday the day after her disappearance. Undo deputy driving near Raphia road. Near President Reagan's property when he spotted her stripped body dumped in a canyon. While canvassing the area a half mile away investigators found the body of Jacqueline Rook. Near One of the bodies detectives found Thick restaurant style. Paper towels coated in blood. The blood contains fingerprints but no match came up in the database two months later Mary. Sarah's is badly decomposed remains were found in another canyon just north of Santa Barbara. Three women have been killed with a pistol by one shot to the head. Police also believed they had been raped around the same time in the same area. A young man named Thorpe Christianson was found drinking and smoking marijuana with some of his buddies in his body. Police asked them all to step out of the car so they could search it. Christianson seemed adamant about not letting police see inside his trunk but eventually he caved inside. They found a large bag holding a pistol. The student strike them as odd. Given that many people had guns in the rural area. They confiscated the weapon but didn't put Christians on the suspect list as news spread of the murders including FBI PROFILE. That described a young male loner. Police were on the lookout for the killer. Changed things up. He left the quaint rural town for the bright lights of Los Angeles. Trolling for sex workers to fulfill his violent needs. One of those women a prostitute named Lydia Preston would help lead investigators to his capture. Lydia was walking on Hollywood boulevard. One night when the man propositioned her they settle on a rate and she climbed into his pristine car. He made small talk as he drove claiming he was a construction worker from Santa Barbara. Meanwhile Lidia pointed out hotel after hotel. They could stop it for her services. He passed them all continuing his ramble. Then he drove off of the city streets into the Hollywood hills where the streets curve between lush nature and Pricey homes. Little is visible at night as darkness sets in. No one was around to witness as he pulled out a gun and shot her in the head still alive and determined to stay that way. Lydia grabbed the wheel of his car. Making it swerve then. She fled from the vehicle and managed to reach the front door of a house. Someone answered and called Nine. One one as medics rushed to home. The assailant fled. Lydia was left with scars and deafness in one ear but no brain damage and three months later. She was back to work on Hollywood boulevard. One night she was in a bar during a shift when she spotted her attacker near the entrance she called the police from a payphone at the back of the venue staying there while they put her on hold and the man who haunted her nightmares made his way further inside when the operator returned she filled them in the man who shot her in the head was within walking distance and yes she was certain it was him quickly. Investigators saw similarities between her attack. And the three murderers in Santa Barbara area. The victims were all young women with similar. Looks all were picked up by a stranger who seemed not only violent but potentially sexually sadistic and they were all shot in the head with the same type of weapon in searching. La Detectives discovered that the suspect had been on the killing spree there as well. They found the body of sex worker. Laura Benjamin in a canyon where she had been for weeks. The suspect was thor Christianson. The man who gun had been confiscated by police after a night of partying in his car looking into his history they learned had grown up in solving after his family emigrated to the US from Denmark. When he was five years old his parents owned and ran a successful restaurant in town. Which explains the paper towels and his expensive car when friends of the Keller learned he had been arrested. They were stunned until they started putting the pieces together. Christianson had seemed like a good smart kid early on they said but over time he showed signs of inner darkness. He drank alcohol from a very young age killed. Small animals more than once and seemed socially awkward in his teens. Especially when it came to girls some claims that his alcoholic father routinely beat him in born to kill. One of his friends said he would return from his John's to Los Angeles bragging and all lit up over the supposed incredible sexy. It had with hookers looking back. That friend said he wonders if he was truly getting off on the murderers soon. Police would learn more grisly details about the man's crimes including what he did. Get off on power and control at first Christian pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but after analysis indicated he was seen enough to stand trial. He changed his plea to guilty. A man named Mike Kirkman who had been leading the investigation for the missing women had left the sheriffs department by this point and was working for the Defense Christianson requested him so he drove to the jail to meet with him while they had spoken before. Kirkman had never witnessed this side of the man. His entire face changed as he detailed his crimes which he claimed he had committed because quote. The girls deserved it. Among the details. He shared that he raped them. Post mortem having sex with corpses as though to signify that he owned them. Kirkman is now known for finding missing people according to Las Vegas. Detectives one has to wonder if interviewing the victims families feeling the depth of their pain and then witnessing the killers crew arrogance led him to that specialty. Of course contrary to what he believed. Christianson did not own has victims twenty one year old Jacqueline Roque nineteen year old Marianne. Sarah's twenty one year old Patricia Patty Laney and twenty two year old. Laura Benjamin are remembered not for the way they died but for who they were as people the lives they lived until then they were daughters. Sisters students friends people with dreams who contributed to a society? Patty's close friend and Peter Pan Cast Mate Ron Bender. Wanted to do something special in her honor to keep her bright spirit alive since she was a juggler. Ron Helped create a jugglers festival patties. Honor the Santa Barbara Jugglers Festival is considered the longest juggling festival held in a single location and prophet support. The Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center even decades after her death. Patty making a difference at one point in Peter Pan. The main character says never say goodbye because goodbye immunes going away and going away means forgetting. Patty never had a chance to say goodbye but like the other victims in this case she will never be forgotten as Christianson. He was killed by a fellow inmate at folsom state prison. Flat Earthers: What They Believe and Why

"This is scientific. American science talk posted on March. Twenty seven twenty twenty. I'm Steve Mirsky. I'm going to let my guest introduce himself in a moment because he does a better job than I could. Midway through the following discussion. We'll take a break for a short segment sponsored by the Calveley prize with Caltech Planetary Astronomer. Michael Brown who has done groundbreaking work though solar system breaking work on the Kuyper belt and its largest members. His segment is not unrelated to what will be talking about now. It's not about corona virus. You'll find some parallels to how some people are reacting to corona virus. Buckle up so I'm Michael Marshall and I'm the project director of the good thinking society which is a charity based in the UK the whole purpose charities to promote science to challenge pseudoscience. So we'll do work Ford Science Education and then another PA the work that we do. The bulk of my work is to find ideas. That aren't backed by evidence and find people who are promoting those ideas find people who are buying into those ideas and to explore them and figure out if anything can be done to prevent people being confused by them Hound by the misled by them and those kinds of things. So I spent a lot of time looking at things like alternative cancer kills and the people who promote those and alternative medicine spent a lot my time going to see people who say they can talk dead. Oku can do faith healing and then another part of my time is spent token people who believe in unusual ideas and kind of proponents. And that's how I came across the flat. Earth world is through my slightly odd a hobby at the time before I was working. Fulltime as as a skeptic is a hobby of mine to be in rooms filled if he who disagree with me to just understand what brings people to ideas that. I would look at and say well. This can't be true. These kind of fringe and extreme and unusual beliefs. What brings people to believe them? And what what? What kind of path leave people there will? Evidence supports supports that position in their minds. And how do they engage with the world with that worldview and try and have conversations? Podcast where I talked to people who have kind of fringe beliefs and instead of having a conversation that a lot of people have if they are a skeptic about something and they're talking to believe where you shout at them and tell them never home and point out all the evidence and tell you gets into a volatile discussion sometimes instead of that. I've tried to have a civil and polite chat to try and explore the gap between us. So I don't believe in this idea of yours but I'm reading to figure out why I don't believe it. Why do so? Let's have a conversation? So have these kind of civil discussions and that's kind of how I came across That the flatter theory and the idea that there are people walking around today. Who think well this flat. This is really interesting and serendipitous that were sitting here because I knew that there were some flatter. Thor's out there and I just thought it was kind of strange and funny and about a week ago I discovered a friend of mine who is very well educated. She got a doctorate in biochemistry and She has a sister who's also very intelligent and very well educated and my friend told me that her sister is a flatter and that her sister is very indignant about the idea that We don't take them seriously and she said something to the effectiveness is hearsay. That we're getting for me right now. That will you know if you looked at the evidence. Then you'd know that what you've been told isn't true. So all of a sudden became fascinated with the flat earth people and then Just on twitter and I had I had been a follower verve yours until I saw this tweet that somebody I follow must've re tweeted that you had just given a talk in Edinburgh where I have been and So I reached out to you and it turns out you live in Liverpool and here I am in Liverpool today. So that's why we're here talking so tell me what do the flat Earth People Think and why do they think it so to your packet question that will bit because it's very easy for us to see the flat? Earth Movement is one singular cohesive movement and. That's how I I thought about it when I first came across in two thousand thirteen when I came across the flutter society in the UK. And so I had a conversation with the vice president of the Flat Earth Society and I assumed you probably have in your mind that people who believe the world is flat thing that the world's disk and in the center you've got the Arctic Circle then you've got all the continents of the world are splayed out to fill the circle. Antarctica is like the edge of disk. But I found out when I first spoke to flatter societies that not everyone in the world has that version of the world and the heads. Some do believe it's a disc but others believe that. Yes the Arctic Circle in the middle the landmasses around it and then on top Around the edge but instead of it being discreet disc some people believe in fact Antactica just on forever and all directions and so they believe that the earth is actually an infinite plane in all directions that bisects reality which is a really lovely idea. What does that mean by? Second three dollars so it will go on. North South East West go on forever and there is the above and the below. But there's no way of getting from the top to the bottom because it's just infinity of all ice in all directions forever so there's no way of getting below the earth and so this was when. I first came across the floor of moving in two thousand thirteen. This quite vociferous debate that was going on and the website of the three in the flat. Earthers yeah it was. It was quite a schism really and so they'd the society. The the time was largely a forum where they would bring forth that proofs of one version this theory or another and I also think there's another schism going on in the movement at the time Which is between one side which people who genuinely really believed the world was flat and the other side which after he did not believe it but enjoyed intellectual pursuit of arguing a position than you false and so they would find quite esoteric off the wall proofs that most people wouldn't think of and so when I first came across it in two thousand thirteen there are people waiting into these arguments who believe the world is round but had never thought about it the fall but just assumed innocent of arrogant way that they must know better than anybody who's thought about it and come to a different conclusion and so they were stumping into these arguments saying well what about photos of the earth from space and what about this and what about ships going with the rise in thinking. Well this is the Gotcha but not realizing that those are the first things they thought about that. They thought the world approved walls around. And therefore it's probably likely that people who think the world is flat had the same idea and yet they're still flat earth So at least in their mind they must have a good answer to that. The people believe the world was round in these arguments. Didn't have 'cause they'd never scrutinize the idea. They rejecting enough and so what was happening. Was I think to a degree? The part of the schism that were just having fun and move very well. The world wasn't flat but just enjoyed the pursuit of doing that. They will winning those arguments of people who are coming in and arrogantly assuming that they could answer everything and in winning those arguments they were really converting even more people who really believed it. And so you had this kind of effect where we saw spiral out of control a little bit. But I think it it wasn't viral in the way that in two thousand thirteen and a as a in the way that it was in two thousand sixteen in two thousand seventeen. I'm think PA that is because that ISA teric off wall version of proofs could be quite complicated to get your head around so for example if you have the disc version the world and the infinite plane version both muddles suffer from an inability to explain gravity. You don't have the spherical mass united central mass of a central point pulling it all two to one point So it's very difficult to explain. Gravity neither one models but these people who are doing kind of East Tarik arguments are saying well what gravity gravity and accelerate falls towards the ground. Think nine point. Eight meters per second. Squared accelerates downwards. They said that is identical to a world in which the ground accelerates upwards to meet you and so when you let go of something it isn't that it's accelerating downwards that it's the grounds accelerating up to meet it Sephora relativity and that's this is exactly where they come to you so people then say when if ground is if the earth is an infinite in all directions that by sex reality and is accelerating open at nine seconds and always has been since the dawn of time. You'd hit a problem which would be the speed of light. You can't go fast so people don't have a Gotcha for this. And so the people who were putting forth esoteric the wall trobisch arguments would say well look at Einstein's theory of relativity as you approach light speed time itself slows down and the mats in their head works back out again so yes beginning. Quick time getting slower and we can account for gravity in that way. And that's quite a complicated auditing Enron. And so I think the fact that these people were winning arguments was getting converting some people movement but the way in which they were winning them were keeping people away from the movement because they were quite complex ideas to you. Couldn't stick them on a mean as you can these days. Here's a picture of the earth. You couldn't explain all that stuff about the relatively proving gravitate infinite plane version of the world. So I think it was a limiting factor going on and that's why when I first came across the free movement it was probably still pretty small. Pretty unknown I've been given talks about pseudoscience for the last five six plus years and I've mentioned that I came across the Flat Earth. Moving and people would always say to me this. Nobody who actually believes that nobody actually doesn't really exist. That people having fun with stay quite small and then in. Twenty fifteen in two thousand sixteen a couple of things happened that really ignited a movement and it was the publishing of two videos on Youtube video series on Youtube. One I believe was Eric. Debate tuned approves the Spinning Globe. And the other was mark sergeants. Fourteen videos in his letter clue series.

Didn't that end like two years ago with everyone dying. Well yes but we keep finding stories that work together to make episodes that I wouldn't have even thought of years ago so today we're telling four stories from the Poetic Edda all bound together with the story of Thor. If you haven't heard any of the previous episodes that's okay nor Smith Allergy is set medieval Scandinavia. The main Gods Odin his wife. Frigg HIS SON. Thor there's sometimes ally sometimes mortal enemy Loki Freya. They're kind of hostage kind of friend and Heimdahl the watcher there are elves trolls dark elves dwarves which are basically dark elves who are good at crafting and they all live among the nine worlds the most important of which are Asgard with.
