US House Passes Resolution Condemning China's 'Human Rights Abuses' in Hong Kong

"Passed a resolution Monday to formally condemn the Chinese government and the Hong Kong regional government for actions that violate the rights and freedoms of the region's citizens. Lawmakers adopted the resolution by a 4 18 to 1 vote that calls on the Chinese government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to release pro democracy activists and politicians arrested under the National security law and acted last year that reduces the city's autonomy and imposes harsh punishments for protesters. Kentucky Republican Thomas Massey was alone law making a vote against the resolution. Coronavirus Deaths Reach 3 Million Worldwide

"From the Corona virus has now topped three million people. That's more than the population of Chicago. The tally by Johns Hopkins University shows as of Saturday morning, more than 566,000 people in the United States have died of confirmed covert 19 infections. But other countries have also suffered staggering tolls. Brazil is next on the list with more than 368,000 deaths part by Mexico, where more than 211,000 people have died. In India, where the toll has topped 175,000, the United Kingdom, Italy, Russia and France have all seen more than 100,000 deaths. And World Health Organization chief Dr Ted Ross at Nam Cabrera says says the numbers continue to rise at worrying rates globally. The number of new cases per week has nearly doubled over the past two months. This is approaching the highest rate of infection that we have seen so far during the pandemic infection rates are rising in the U. S. Is well director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Dr Rachel Wolinsky. Our seven day average is up to 69,500. Nearly 70,000 new cases per day and, along with that emergency room visits and hospital admissions. But Wolinsky adds, vaccination efforts are making significant progress. More than one third of the U. S population has received at least one dose and more than 1/5 of the population is fully vaccinated. Lipsky says. Relax prevention efforts such as Mask mandates are one reason for the rising rates and another is the continued spread of highly transmissible variance more than Feed a 70% more transmissible, which makes the race to stop the transmission even more challenging and threatens to overwhelm our health care system again in parts of this country. "Welcome french. it's a pleasure to be with. You and i wanted to start by honoring you just really the quality of effort and earnestness and and dedication to practice. I feel like we're all kind of helping each other along and the atmosphere is just. It's sweet and beautiful. So i wanted to start with a quote. This is thomas merton who once said of what avail is it if we can travel to the moon if we cannot cross. The abyss separates us from ourselves. This is the most important of all journeys and without it. All the rest are useless. I'm starting with this because it feels like. That's what we're doing that we gather here and in a sense or crossing the abyss. There's so much conditioning to cut us off from ourselves and cut us off from each other. And we're in this practice that is really Bringing an intimacy with the life. That's here and you could feel that as jonathan spoke yesterday. This such a powerful talk on meeting difficulty all those challenging weather systems befriending wings of and kindness and then the beautiful metta meditations yesterday with devon and then just now with with law that really keep inviting us into this heart space

"Science labs across. The country are running low on crucial equipment. Sally herships from the planet money team asked. Why is that monica. Thomas ups is a scientist in a research lab in pittsburgh she researches drugs to help rare genetic diseases and she uses all kind of fancy pie tech equipment even robots but right now one of her biggest stumbling blocks is from shortage of super basic lab supplies the shortages. So bad monica's lab. They protect what they do. Have we have a co worker. Who has what we refer to as the stash. Several boxes of different types of things that are underneath a lab bench that you have to actually crawl under to get like down on your hands in nedia. Monica stash is mostly full of those tubes. They're called pipe pets. They're basically straws and you can use them to pull liquid up out of one tube and put it into another. They come in different sizes and you need the right one otherwise it might be too skinny or they might be too short. Which means that. We can't reach the bottom of the thing that we're trying to get the liquid out of and scientists at labs across the country often use hundreds and hundreds a day. If you don't have the right size it can slow down your work or stop it entirely at monica's slab. The problem started last summer when pipette s- became really hard to find one of her coworkers requested a quote back in january. And they're not supposed to be in our lab until june but all kinds of plastic lab supplies or short now gloves petri dishes even the robots that use them can be backward for months. Prices are soaring so instead of spending your time science saying you're spending your time like online shopping. Yes

I got married and college carnegie Halfway through and i think it's fair to say the real communication would have been I'm afraid to go to new york by myself. Are you oh well. Let's go Sharon apartment and buddies that would have been kind of the emotional truth but somehow we ended up getting married and twenty two and Married for five years good friends but certainly not you know a a marriage And then got divorced and married again and had children but still a huge level of unconsciousness on my part and that lasted fifteen years. I mean my life was incredibly messy but underneath. There was a lot of work going. On where i was trying to stop being a liar and wake up and everything. Pretty much was not hugely faithful. Leave it at that. So i did all this work myself but by the time we met i was convinced i was incapable of hemming in a relationship that i wouldn't mess up. This was back in one thousand nine hundred ninety four when both of them were in a film called pontiac moon. And just like when. I first met you. Ted was drawn to marry immediately. And what was it about her. When you cast an apart- together you have an excuse to look at somebody in the eye whereas otherwise i'm kind of shy. We're about to work together so you you're supposed to know each other so you share and i was i was like i said a hot mess and so i shared my life with her on that first night and it was very clear. Nothing was possibly going to happen. Because nutty i was and mary was looking to be in a relationship so it really started off friends until halfway through the production. Took a canoe ride jump in here. I don't wanna do model. Okay all right so we were playing This kind of one thousand nine hundred sixty s kind of it was a very strange fell. But we're not going to have a relationship. Mary ni- pica's that's clear but we should do something fun and kind of old fashioned romantic because that's kind of what the film is like a by then. I knew that when. I showed up at lunch and somebody else was sitting next to mary. The part of me was like Little grumpy that. I hadn't got there in time to sit next door but then we took a canoe ride and it was just tied. Big tidal river called the mendocino river crack big river. And we got into a canoe that had an outrigger. It was just a beautiful connote. And there was a group of three or four other people going up and we outdistanced them quickly and we just kept going around the next bend. It was always in the front me in the back. effortlessly paddling. Which is you learn a lot. I think in a canoe and there was very little conversation except when it was right. Sea otters blue herons saw. It was just. It was just magically beautiful and lincoln peaceful and at ease and i think on the way down. We stopped to have a little bite on the corner of the side of the river. And you kept wanting to turn around us. That was kind of for our wedding. The chew part of our bows was a poem about that canoe. Ride it was really a charter for our marriage About look you know. Finding the truth in each other's eyes. And but mary what has in our entire life. Been the person that goes. Let's let's go around the next bend. Come on let's let's do this. I'm usually the one going. Oh i don't you know..

"How old is the house. Nineteen zero five. Wow i it's been everything from a speakeasy for mill workers to a music school for girls to a single person occupancy and when you think it was a brothel is just wishful began to wonder where in this five storey house. Would we have our talks. Who's the decorator. David has better taste than i do. So if we ever have disagreements about Interiors it usually comes from a financial standpoint in that. I tend to say dude. We have dogs and two small children. We don't need a forty billion dollar rug. So you're the sort of decorator in your the accountant. Then they led me into their red velvet screening room with rows of quickly theater seats. Just like an old hollywood. What a fitting place to chat with these two actors. What kind of marriages did your parents have. My parents were together until my mom passed away years ago. And your parents. My parents are still married. And they've celebrated fifty plus years of marriage so they've always been only together with each other so because you were gay. Did you think you wouldn't have that. I thought that i was going to be alone or single for most of my adult life. But i had a random path from adolescence into adulthood because i ended up being on a television show when i was fifteen years old and so all pre puberty through puberty. When you're figuring out what turns you on i was. I felt a bit under a microscope of television. And so i didn't have the freedom to randomly hit on somebody or go to a bar. So i i was by myself a lot and had a fantastic group of friends in los angeles. Who knew everything about me. But i just i just wasn't dating. I had never even showered with another person till i was in my late twenties so it was all new to me. And what about you. Deeming i you know. I didn't know what i wanted to. Until sort of i got into college and then after college living in new york i you know i saw lots of different relationships than men having babies and having a family so i i always knew that i was going to settle down and be with someone and stay with someone and have a family and kids. Once we started dating. We never really stopped so we didn't date lots of people while we were dating each other and then decide. We just started dating moved in together. And we've been together ever since same. Sex marriage wasn't legal at that time and and it seemed like a potential but not an inevitability and so we were more conscientious of what wording we used to call each other. A <Speech_Telephony_Male> particular way <Speech_Telephony_Male> that <Speech_Telephony_Male> the judiciary <Speech_Telephony_Male> has a specific <Speech_Telephony_Male> defined <Speech_Telephony_Male> role. Judges are supposed <Speech_Telephony_Male> to interpret <Speech_Telephony_Male> and apply the law <Speech_Telephony_Male> as written <Speech_Telephony_Male> they're supposed <Speech_Telephony_Male> to do so impartially, <Speech_Telephony_Male> <Speech_Telephony_Male> that is a modest. <Speech_Telephony_Male> <Speech_Telephony_Male> <hes> defined <Speech_Telephony_Male> role and <Speech_Telephony_Male> judges <Speech_Telephony_Male> have to keep <Speech_Telephony_Male> within <Speech_Telephony_Male> the bounds. <Speech_Telephony_Male> The was <Speech_Telephony_Male> Hamilton road in <Speech_Telephony_Male> describing judiciary <Speech_Telephony_Male> that they wanted to avoid <Speech_Telephony_Male> arbitrary <Speech_Telephony_Male> discretion <Speech_Telephony_Male> for <Speech_Telephony_Male> judges well. <Speech_Telephony_Male> Just <Speech_Telephony_Male> despair it and <Speech_Telephony_Male> the approach that she takes, <Speech_Telephony_Male> which is a very traditional <Speech_Telephony_Male> approach. The <Speech_Telephony_Male> approach America's founders <Speech_Telephony_Male> designed. <Speech_Telephony_Male> We call it originalism <Speech_Telephony_Male> today <Speech_Telephony_Male> is just you <Speech_Telephony_Male> take the constitution <Speech_Telephony_Male> for what it <Speech_Telephony_Male> says and for <Speech_Telephony_Male> when it originally <Speech_Telephony_Male> meant judges <Speech_Telephony_Male> don't have the power to <Speech_Telephony_Male> change the constitution. <Speech_Telephony_Male> That's <Speech_Telephony_Male> exactly the role <Speech_Telephony_Male> of the judiciary supposed <Speech_Telephony_Male> to play, <Speech_Telephony_Male> and when you're in <Speech_Telephony_Male> the ingredients, <Speech_Telephony_Male> you know <Speech_Telephony_Male> are there when <Speech_Telephony_Male> the pieces of <Speech_Telephony_Male> the design <Speech_Telephony_Male> are in <Speech_Telephony_Male> the place they're supposed <Speech_Telephony_Male> to be <Speech_Telephony_Male> the system works <Speech_Telephony_Male> the way it's supposed to. <Speech_Telephony_Male> We have more <Speech_Telephony_Male> a greater <Speech_Telephony_Male> liberty here <Speech_Telephony_Male> in this country than <Speech_Telephony_Male> any other country <Speech_Telephony_Male> at any other time <Speech_Telephony_Male> in the history of the world, <Speech_Telephony_Male> and there's there's certain <Speech_Telephony_Male> reasons for that. There are <Speech_Telephony_Male> certain pieces that <Speech_Telephony_Male> come together <Speech_Telephony_Male> to produce that <Speech_Telephony_Male> in one of those is that <Speech_Telephony_Male> you dish area that knows <Speech_Telephony_Male> its place. <Speech_Telephony_Male> <Speech_Telephony_Male> And she does <Speech_Telephony_Male> and that <Speech_Telephony_Male> that's why it's so <Speech_Telephony_Male> important to have <Speech_Telephony_Male> that kind <SpeakerChange> of judge <Speech_Telephony_Male> the supreme. "Out of a grain of wheat along gates, a beam of wood to help Joseph out in the carpenter shop. So it's just like a real like hijinks Lotta hygiene I feel like it's really it's taking the source material and leaning into the fully human. While being fully God but in a in a fun way. Yes. Exactly and that is the nonstick vibe. They're just there's just lots of lots of weird other stuff attributed to Thomas out there and just wanted to just lay the groundwork. Sure if you're interested in checking the guys. Okay. So I also want to rebuke the I did not specifically the do that you mentioned in the episode about who say that Thomas's doubt is bad. I WANNA rebuke pretty much all like just that General Vibe Ryan like doubt Thomas is bad because he doubted because we were beat bit. So you're really come at your coming on team. Yeah. I'm I'm on team. You rarely does that now that's not true it happens off. But I think if we villain is Thomas and what has been historically considered his most notable trait, we weren't really like serving the tax properly. So I want to like put it in a different perspective. So let's put are sanctified imagination hats on this. So Thomas Thomas is is he loves Jesus enough that in a few chapters back he's like willing to die for him. He spent the past two or three years being part of his posse, their friends, their family Jesus appears to. All the other disciples except for him that we know of that's like the biggest photo ever we have the story they've seen their friend but for Thomas that's like not viable narrative which I think completely makes sense for him. Jesus is dead or his body was stolen. so He's grieving scared. He's maybe frustrated that his friends of seemingly gone insane and maybe even on another level feels like left out an embittered maybe he's wondering why Jesus hasn't appeared maybe he spent this whole week like. Wondering when Jesus GonNa pop up and so I think it's lovely that Jesus directly addresses him and has intimate moment with him. Jesus..

"Review Okay. So lots of very interesting extra biblical, Thomas sources that I wanNA talk about. So Jamie you mentioned the acts of Thomas, knocks humans mentioned the gospel of Thomas. There's also a book of called the Book of Thomas The contender, which is sort of part of the gospel of Thomas, and then there's also the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, should we warn the listeners right now that in the breakdown of the way that you're GonNa Gentle, rebuke us that you get all the way to sub sub new Roman numeral eight I don't like that you spin the Roman outline actions of one of them has eight subway's very thorough. Okay. So I the gospel of Thomas or the Secret Gospel of Thomas. So it's like the secret sayings of Jesus it was recorded by a person named Judas Thomas. You guys talked about it sounds like he recorded him like with his. Right right. Now it could have been written anywhere between sixty and two hundred and fifty eighty. It's hard to date because we'll talk about this a minute it's not it's a sayings Gospel. It's not a narrative gospel sue is recorded, but we don't win. It was written right? Right exactly. Ca like originally we have copies or whatnot So if it was written after one, hundred, twenty ad, it wouldn't have been eligible canonization simply due to being written after the canonization pro nothing else has been added after one twenty eighty every much. Yeah. Yes. Sure. You get it it was discovered in Egypt. It doesn't directly point to Jesus's divinity, but it also doesn't like not do that. It's just kind of vague It is a sayings Gospel this was a this was a popular way to record famous teachers teachings at the time. So not a biography, not a narrative It's possible throwback to last. Bible Benge. Classic Episode Peter That The Gospel of Thomas could have been Q. Source again, knock you non. I know you don't like you don't. You I feel like that's a marketing problem because it's called Q. and you're like you would open us up to a lot of blonde women would would. So, not to knock, she mentioned that it's potentially a point by point breakdown that John is a point by point breakdown of like a real Sassy takedown. Exactly. I'M GONNA. I'm GONNA give a little tease here that It's like an image booze of what's coming in the extended gentle rebuke where I'm going to tell you the crazy place where Thomas Skull ended up..

"Of three years with Jesus the disciples were often overwhelmed by their emotions like fear and outrage joy and they were uncomfortable and they were certain and then they. Were uncertain and then they were anxious. It was all kind of weird and wonderful and mostly weird aren't we in the same feelings fight with God you and me we often find ourselves overwhelmed by feelings. We are scared of the diagnosis were angry at the government were excited about the baby or the house or the person for the job, and we're uncomfortable at the dinner table where certain of our next steps. But we're uncertain of how to actually step out in our next steps were anxious were anxious about our own flaws. The flaws of those we love the flaws of flawed world what has been repeatedly telling us this is now your home I'm with you do. Not Worry I bring peace the next time you feel overwhelmed simply reach out pech the hand of the one who's telling you. He is working for your good and believe him. That's really good my so who cares about you know I obviously I think I've talked about this law and the show up. So we talked about this in the episode, but I'm hugely drawn to Thomas because I very much identify with him and the story and his experience of doubt. I'm probably biased because I wrote an entire book about this idea but I'm all about the acceptance normalization of DOUKAS. Sadly, doubt is treated like another kind of expletive in it's rarely engaged with there's this. Weird cultural tension that ideologically speaking everything is all or nothing. It's a lot of if you're not with me, you're against me but this tendency towards absolutism isn't about getting at anything good or positive. It's about being afraid. It's about fear about fear of nuance. It's about being afraid of the things we can't neatly consolidate into easily understandable boxes to that I would say we're required to reject the neat and tidy understands of God because I refuse to believe in a God that can easily understand and quantify Dow wasn't Thomas's singular quality and it can't be hours either because an un- curious faith is just as dangerous as A. Comprehensive cynicism. So by Thomas, it's okay to ask questions but also like Thomas when faced with incontrovertible truth it's Ok and necessary to acknowledge those two and lastly before we go, we're GONNA end with accountability seven we call a gentle rebuke with resume Bible scholar and moon as is our tradition. "This is like the first guy who's like. Completely aware and believing in the divinity of Jesus like he's calling this out in the Gospel. There have been like allusions to it, but he's the one he's honest. Wanted to be like I didn't believe now. Do I know you're the guy you're the guy and then Yeah. And then Jesus told him because you've seen me have believed blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed verse thirty Jesus for many other. Okay God. This is maybe the most frustrating thing of red. US for many other signs in the president cycles. which are recorded in this book my man I mean like you couldn't give me a list or something point. Matthew did when he gave us the whole leg. Jews afflicted it to get that. He invented tiktok dances. He punched the tiger. Like all this cool stuff. But no John's like this was enough for you like you should like this verse thirty one. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah the son of God and by believing you may have life in his name. So I like that this is feels like very final and then he goes on to write more chapter. Away no let's talk a little bit more. Did you want encore? Okay let's do that. So what happen to Thomas? Do we know? Well. There's a lot of none of its confirmable from what I saw like verifiable. I did see the ideas that he went to India and came the apostle of India There's some crazy stories about like the a a royalty figure gave him money to build a house and Thomas give to the poor and was like. I built the house for you and have a man. and. The king was product. Okay you gave. A physical house though, but there's some really cool fun stories. So I saw that the Axel Thomas say that he was martyred in a mild poor India where he was stabbed with spears. Yeah, and then Syrian Christians tradition specifies that he was. Martyred and killed with a spear. Yeah and then there's an early calendar entry that reads Saint Thomas who was pierced with a lance in India. Okay. So he feels like he got. Yeah. Phil. Johnson Lake. John We know will not he will be the one who does not get murder. He gets to live out his days like at a sandals resort. and so it's interesting that resented him for that I? Don't know there's in heaven for that. Can you resent heaven I hope. So I like resentments. You gotta be free of now. I don't. I do I do it's true. He is a quick break type I wonder sponsors get Wisdom Bible Studies. We don't have time for fluff in.

"Have been guilty of that. I'm a longtime legalist in recovery. Thank you but I I would always go like was he questioned this? Do you not believe in God and it's like Thomas is literally the model that Jesus said no, it's not no look ci loved me how much she was committed to this process how committee was to being a disciple and no, he an there in the middle that we have to the context of their. So scared he has probably why was he not there? He might have been like, do you WanNa know I'll tell you. Yeah. Aaron, you don't even show me on this introvert I can tell you. What I seen a minute I've seen a long walk. Okay. Unfair. How except that? Because I kept thinking like they're under immense fear because the thing that they've worked on for three years thinking in the back because as Jewish children who grew up learning about the Messiah. That's what's going to happen, and then the guy that you think's going to be it doesn't do it and blow it out even further. It's not Jesus was the only one who ever said I'm the guy on the side that that moment and before and after was replete with guys me like actually on the Messiah and we're going to do this and like cool and then they die and they never come back. So it's fair to be like, Oh, it was one of those. We got about one like that's our bad. You know that it's not I think A. Lot of times we examined these people from the benefit of hindsight of like twenty twenty. I can't believe but it's like we don't. They didn't have that context. I mean, they did because they had the experience of Jesus. But it's fair to be like you had human moment where you were a little unsure of the stand that made a lot of sense 'cause plus what if he was at his introvert walk in the woods and he ran into somebody in their lake? Hey, it's me Jesus 'cause what if they're truly my guess is there's this whole anticipation that like. 'cause Jesus was really clear about how going to go down. There are people now popping up as like Oh. It's me. I'm I'm Jon Benet Ramsey. Did you not know like I am saga of the Russian Dynasty? Could. They're not have been like it's Elvis death, right? I feel like Thomas was the one and along with other disciples going. No like we've seen some weird stuff and we just don't know and do we know we can't look at his body. Like we this is the way we can tell yes. Absolutely. You know I saw a quote from Adam Clarke who's much smarter than I will ever hoped to be. But he loved Him Clark. But he call he says, Thompson Unbelievers unreasonable obstinate prejudiced presumptuous insolent and. By really you know I just feel myopic view of Hugh particularly if you..

"Slash bobble bench. Thank you and now back to the ship. Now. Thomasson is one of twelve was not with the disciples when Jesus came I twenty five so that others told him we've seen the Lord, but he said to them this Thomas, unless I see the nail marks in his hands, put my finger where the nails were and put my hand and to aside I will not believe. So we have we have. The this is the totality of the Thomas Experience in the New Testament. You know he's obviously doing other things but this is where I feel like we get either fairly unfairly kind of his vibe I think we unfairly okay. So couple of things first of a set up question. So it says now Thomas was not win the deal with the disciples. So he has not Holy Spirit and all these other guys have spirit. Yes. What's that about? Is it like a tag situation or you had to be in the room to get that right see when he walks in the Holy Spirit like, Oh, just take a deep breath Y- you're here now here. So I'm very curious about we we're is the Holy Spirit does Thomas ever get you have to wait 'til pentecost sure. What happens to Thomas in the situation Erin dummy does he breathe in an era? It's going to be like do not know I don't care no one tears. The spirit, these other guys are like because I feel like the Holy Spirit will bring a chill vibe because it's free fruits are peace patience kindness gentleness self control. Yes and now Thomas is going to be like still freaking the freak out. And plus what we know. Okay. So contacts, we know from Luke Luke, which does not talk about this Thomas Experience, but he talks about right before this that I think it's in Luke twenty four that he says when they got back from the May told all these things to the eleventh. These are the women right and they They told all who told this to the apostles we've seen Jesus and it says, but they did not believe. The women because there were seemed like nonsense. Okay. So it's not just Thomas who doesn't believe it's other people in the room and also the disciples who were freaking the freak out in the room. Right? There's a gre- of disbelief there at everything that has been told in like four told them and they knew this was coming. They're still not knowing how to conduct. That's right and that's why I think when it gets there and it's like. What what what what what and I think there are other gathering like, yeah. Yeah. We we same. We didn't get to see like it did seem like that ghost we saw in the water when the the story Peter While Lady Ghost. Yeah, she knows. What it felt like I don't really know but what we know about Thomas. Okay. So we talked about that. He's in the Bible eight timeline. We've got the four times and he's in a list. We've got the one time that he goes fishing. So he might be a fisherman right? We have this one and we have two other times, and so one of the Times is when Jesus figuring out that Lazarus has dot..

"Is this correct that So there were five appearances of Jesus on this day. It was to marry this other women. It was two people on a May to Peter and into all these disciples. Yeah. Man That's a busy day busy day for Jay z listen you are resurrected and feeling good I'm rusted advocation lay. Off I had three days I. Really, diverse. I'm literally ever right subversive when he won again Jesus peace be with you as the father sent me I'm sending you verse twenty two and without he breathed on them weird said, receive the Holy Spirit if you forgive anyone sends their sins are forgiven if you do not forgive them, they're not forgiven. So a lot of things happen he's breathing on them and we're talking about the Holy Spirit. It's not weird because it shouldn't be weird it is weird verbiage fair but fair, but he's just talked about this in fourteen. So he has sat down with them in detail. I'm leaving and they're like wet I'm like, yeah I gotTa remember all the Times of told you. I gotta go. I gotTA. Go like for real it's happening now. And then he's like, but don't worry you know like you're mad and your side and I've just rebuke you. Peter. But. I'M GONNA send somebody a Minnesota counselor. Yes. Virtually, for now, Thomas also parentheses also noticed. Did US why did he did that? You think he's just trying to clarify or just be like this guy he just got. He did. Like he well, you know, I have a long history of being fascinated by twins. You're not necessarily loving twins being really confused by the genetics of it all and I feel like John has a twin issue the he's like now twin also known as twin. "She called a polemic of like kind of a takedown Thomas Writing. So a lot of it and specifically this showcasing of Thomas like he's the guy not with the other two or with the other disciples and he's the one who doubts. It's kind of like very passive aggressive like that at odds because I like obviously like the Gospel John But this is my boy here. So I don't like what you do into my boy. And I think we're GonNa see that as we read in this passage, you know for me I am John's book was written later than I think all the goths thinks and I think that's why you find the eighty percent of what you will find in the book of John is only covered by him right? because. I think I also think John is in an era in for he was like, Oh, we go do a different like I'm not going to be like I'm not going to steal from mark like those other dudes I'm GonNa like write my own thing. So. We'll see. So in the season, we're skipping around a bit because sometimes Jesus will be alive and sometimes he will be dead but we're not telling Jesus a story. We're telling the stories of his followers we're not doing this chronologically. So, guess what Jesus is dead he had been arrested tried and sentenced to death and about what felt like eight days he's been buried. His followers are super sad there also in hiding because they're scared for their own lives But one of them, Mary Magdalene a lady goes to his team finds an empty and she likes the freak out and then she goes and tells Peter and John and Dave themselves freak the freak out and they head back to their disciples safe house and they wait will marry mags and some other ladies show up and are like you guys guess we saw walking around cash in the street and they're like who? Jesus H Christ You believe that and that is where we pick up our story today I like it I like it. Okay. So and then before I encourage people if you wanna read really thoughtful stuff about the Gospel John About maybe if you want to go into the Secret Gospel Thomas Elaine Pale, she hasn't some really good stuff but I think think about it in the context. Specifically, this passage but like the the book of John You know what Elaine Pagel socks about is Thomas's Gospel is a lot I think if we read say it'd be like new agey we feel like that and a lot of is like there's a divine light that exists with all within all of us..

"He's gotten a really bad rap that could be that he might be the guy in heavily been like it was one time. You dare doubt it to you. Peter. Do some stuff to if you remember you know I. I. was looking up S- about Thomas and I saw something when I was researching and obviously dates are dates at this point. So her nose but I submit kind of made the hair on my next stand up and it was the date that they believe he might have died was the year seventy two that's pretty common. The date December twenty first, which is my birthday. So. Just, one of those weird things like we'll have feels weird you know just like a weirdly specific moment that revolves around me that in no way means anything but feels like it means something I mean. It means something kind of weird. So in casting Thomas I, I was really thinking about this and then this is your number one. This is a big and I thought I wanna I wanNA capture someone I'm going to pick the right person but then I thought I I don't want to cast this person as much as I just want to say who have always visualized Thomas. Because thing about the Bible avoid you know when I think about storage probably must be like this. You have the person you think of, and sometimes it's moves does not or celebrities or whatever So I, think in capturing this person, what was happening to was I want someone who seems intelligent I want them to seem a little standoffish and withdrawn and I think maybe you could argue that they come. Off a little snooty okay. With the idea and this might not be the most fair characterization but I think it is a characterization. We will contend with the with the idea being that like they everything can be explained or understood right that wanting and requiring verifications somebody that always will start off with well, actually exactly the well actually got. Okay. So for that reason, I will be casting Philip Seymour Hoffman..

"Your host Koi Johnny's always wanted to put her fingers or the nails worst even golden. Sound I. Don't mean a weird. that. Okay here's the deal, the Bible Bench, the show retake stories from the Bible and we recap them as though they were maybe book for its mission. Now, we say movie booker TV show because that's what we usually do on our other show about pop culture, the podcast with Knox and Jamie where we talk about popular culture sacrilege every Wednesday, and before we begin, we just want to be clear that the Bible. Has No agenda The show as a meant to be evangelical for cereal, which thing to the Bible has some super dope stories I wanNA talk more about them and voice that as more every man or every woman, the conversation will take place sodas meant to be more casual, not a disrespect but in an effort to better understand the story tenth season of the Bible Bench is all about that rag tag group. Of adoring Acolytes we lovingly referred to as the disciples to make sure you get every episode of the season had straight to wherever you listen to podcasts and subscribe to our show plus don't forget to follow along with us on instagram and twitter at the Bible. Finally here at the Bible meant, we urge you to love others as you love yourself and share the show on social media and if you WANNA. Fall along as we go, the main biblical Scripture sobral cover is John Twenty versus nineteen through thirty one are Jamie get tougher Tommy tally time Tommy were you excited? I'm very excited. I've been waiting a long time for this episode. This is your this. Would you argue that this is your favorite one like your top five favorite characters in the Bible number one number one of men you know Jesus obviously Jesus. But like of mortal men, that's my guy and right before we hit record you said we'll never talk about Thomas again so like Well he'd just seized us not mentioned a lot in the Bible. Sorry. This. Is his moment to shine hard the deal I. Guess. Okay. So in this story, we obviously have two primary characters that we're dealing with. We have. Jesus who of course, as you know, we do not cast out of respect for ourselves. And then Thomas, we have Thomas he mentioned eight times in the New Testament which could sound like a lot of those times are just GonNa, list of names of people who are disciple. So He is one of the twelve main disciples of Jesus. He might be a fisherman we don't really know job he just in one of those other for mentions it's like he went fishing with the fishermen. So been recreational kind of information we don't know we don't know. His name. Let's talk about Thomas's name which is very complicated. Now, we as a group of people have decided his name was Thomas but here's the problem..
