"Have that same level of success. And that's what people don't realize and they don't understand that, okay, yeah, we lost a lot of guys in the first round in the draft period. We lost 15 guys into the NFL Draft, but if you look at these Georgia team, they haven't missed a beat because the way Kirby in his staff coaches these guys up, they are being put in positions where the practices are harder than the games. Whenever you practice and you see guys talk about it, you see, you licking the George pick and talk about NFL practices. He's talking about how the Georgia practices are harder than NFL practices. What that does, it gets you ready to play on Saturdays. It gets you ready to play on Sundays. Those are the kind of things that get players ready for the next level. It gets guys cited excited about going to a certain program and I love that that program is my former Alma mater the university of Georgia. We'll let it ride there, but you guys have a long day and hopefully a memorable night ahead, Thomas Davis and coach Gary pinkel Hall of Fame coach and the Hall of Fame everything here from the NFL and I watched him play in the NFL from a pretty close distance and I saw a majority as well. Both of you congratulations on many more many more honors to come. Thank you for joining us today. First day to go dogs. Thank you. Thank you, coach pinkel and Thomas Davis. We'll be right back. "Now. I mean, you busted your spleen. You probably still tried to hide that when you play, didn't you? I did. I mean, you're saying it right, Dan. I mean, a 100%. It's a performance business. And then you put yourself into a shoes to what you're talking about. First off, football players want to play football. Quarterbacks are usually generally love the game in all aspects of it, right? They're got a little mojo. It's the first time in a NFL career. He's got some positive stuff going on with him. He knows he's got a pretty good backup teddy Bridgewater behind him. He doesn't want to give him that chance. So yeah, you know, again, I've said the florio a million times when we had this conversation. If I was in today's NFL, I got my head hit hard. I'd get up doing something with my shoulder. And yeah, there was no way. I was bleeding internally and dying out and bleeding out. They weren't taking me out of the game. I didn't know I was that. I thought maybe you broke, you know, rib and it was touching my lung or whatever, but it is the nature of the beast. I think Joe burrow hit this, you know, perfectly. I had no point thought Ray Lewis running into me at full speed was good for my body when I signed up for football. I wasn't like, you know, I think I'll live longer if ray runs into me full speed and just cleans my clock a few times. So it's a big boy sport. It's a sport of big people and of course it's a lot of intensity and people fighting for their careers and that leads to some violent hits on the football field. Okay, how do you have your spleen get, what was the medical term that it exploded and who hit you? Well, it was actually it was Thomas Davis, right? And Chris Jenkins. It was kind of a double whammy. We had a play called 23 Z in. And I thought I was going to have the crow route open and somebody flashed in front of it. And now I cock the ball back because the pocket was collapsed and I was going to throw the ball out of bounds. And I saw Thomas Dave is coming at me, but as I was throwing the ball and got in that compromise position, Chris Jenkins hit me from behind and it really like extended me, right? Almost into a back extension and that at that moment is where Thomas Davis put his The Crown of his helmet right in the soft spot of my belly. And yeah, you're not thinking you're bleeding internally. I thought maybe I broke a rib. I didn't know what was going on, but I was extremely uncomfortable. And I kept telling the medical staff, I could play. And thank God after the game, the doctor was like, hey, let's just go to the emergency room 'cause it might be your spleen and thank God he did that because I don't think I had a whole lot longer to figure that one out. All right, assess this game tonight. What's wrong with these two? Let's start with these two quarterbacks. What's wrong with Russell Wilson right now? All right, I mean, obviously not comfortable in the offense quite yet. And, you know, and honestly, I gotta say a little bit, I gotta put some on Russell here all together.

"Man, great show going on. I got two questions. If you are hired as a consultant by clipson to figure out what's going on, what would you tell him and my second question is there's a two loss Alabama team make the playoffs. I'm gonna be quiet and listen to you, man. Yeah, a two loss Alabama team will not make the playoffs. It would take special circumstances, which means they would have to lose before they can't lose to Georgian get in. They would have to beat Georgia with two losses. And I think that's highly unlikely. As far as clumsy and I really think what somebody needs to do, judge is just take a deep inventory of that coaching staff. I know they've been great, but sometimes coaching staffs can hang together too long. I know the offense has taken a hit. I think that's more about Trevor Lawrence. And I do think anything else, even though last year, I would question some of the play selection for Trevor Lawrence. But I think you just have to go through the whole thing, objectively, not out of loyalty. Yeah, you look at the great. I mean, over 6 years, 6 playoffs, three games in Alabama, two wins are Alabama. And that's incredible but then you drop off this. Hey, I'm glad my wife went to the university of Florida. I did law school at the university of Georgia. So I got a good backup plan. Go go. Got it. Hey, thank you. We're up against a break Roman Harper and a number of other guests will join us shortly. And our podcast ESPN daily, we ask questions that reveal the deeper side of sports. "A little attrition TiVo. You want to talk about one or two Gators. I just gave you ten Georgia guys that aren't gonna be in that stadium and they're still gonna win by two touchdowns. Okay, so I wanna go back to Mullen, though, because I asked Tebow about the recruiting, I asked him about a couple of things that you normally bring up. And he really didn't take I didn't say do you take Mike Griffith seriously, but if he was sitting here, he wouldn't be taking you seriously, because he coach. That's his code. Okay. You can't. People play Vermont. He respects Mullins. Can't possibly. You're putting Tebow in a horrible situation to turn on his game. I don't want him to. I just want his expertise just like I want your expertise. He's going to give you expertise, but it's going to be filtered. Tim Tebow's a winner. And he's not going to say anything that's going to hurt that program or that coach, the day before they play Georgia. So we're going to do it. Okay, so let's move Tebow off the table. What's your deal with Dan Moe? It's been mediocrity at a program where excellence is the standards. That's my deal. I don't want to see Florida start to settle for 9 and ten win seasons and everybody think that that's hunky Dory and gaysville, or we're going to keep seeing empty stadiums. There's a reason why that was only what the third sellout in four years when they played Alabama, something like that. That stadium is built to be packed Paul. I mean, that Gainesville to swamp. I mean, I don't want to see that stadium go away and turn into some 60 70,000, 80% capacity, Florida wins 8 or 9 games and gets known for a baseball program or something like that. I mean, that's a football school. At least it used to be a football team. Baseball didn't have too hot a year last year either. Well, maybe we should be talking about Scott Strickland right now instead of Dan Mullen. And I know we like Scott and he's a wonderful guy, but he's tied at the hip with Dan Mullen, if you ask me. And if Milan doesn't start winning and Scott Strickland doesn't start taking care of some of these off the field issues. It has a second. Mike, I happen to think Scott Strickland is an outstanding athletic director. And I don't understand how it's got Strickland's fault. He tried to hire chip Kelly. He then went to Scott frost. He got Dan Mullen at least during the heap, so it's not like he targeted Dan Mullen first. He knew Dan mon he worked with him. And he said he didn't target him first. No, of course. No, it's not, I mean, I don't know if that's in a diamond or not, but it may be, it may not be, but it wasn't his first choice. And now I'm defending Scott Strickland. You're acting like Scott said the day that he made a change. He goes, okay, got to go get Dan Mullen. I'm saying that this is this could be bigger than Dan Mullen. I'm thinking, I'm looking at facilities. How does Florida fall that far behind in facilities? Let me ask you that. I mean, when you're winning. Maybe you ought to ask, scotch Brooklyn's predecessor. Yeah. Well, everybody's too busy annoying him for that. But that model, that model is outdated. And Florida fell behind, Dan Mullen was hired to catch up. He had opportunities last year, the lost LSU was inexcusable. The fact that there wasn't enough buying and all those players, no showed for the bowl game against Oklahoma, tells you what's going on with the program. Those guys didn't want to play for each other, and they didn't want to play for their coach. So they didn't show up. You know who showed up for Georgia? A guy by the name of aziza jalari that was already ear tagged for a high draft pick, but that program meant something. That's what I'm saying. You got to have a level of buy in. And you everybody can talk about buy in and being in on it, but the actions speak louder than the words. And the actions for Florida last night last year were alarming. And if Florida doesn't play well tomorrow in their biggest rivalry game after a biweek, that's a red flag that something really bad is going on at the university of Florida football program. So what do you think is wrong? Do you think it's the chemistry, the leadership? We're talking about maybe fire and Todd grantham right now, I think. We're talking about staff changes, and that may be the end result for Dan Mullen. He may have to fire his defensive coordinator to save his own eye for another year. That's probably the result. If you keep Dan Mullen another year, you absolutely have to win out. But well, yeah, but you're talking about somebody in Dan moan. We'll be serious here for a second. That every guest we have on this program, Mike, you've alluded to this in the past. Said, Dan Mullen is the best play caller in America. Yes. He's very good, but it takes more than X's and old's pole. It takes leadership dynamics. And it takes a structure and a foundation. That's why I said it's bigger than Dan Mullen. It's an all in mentality. You think it's university of Florida? I think it's a much larger I'm gonna spin this around to talk about the number one team. Can I talk about the.

"Driving in from the airport and I came here I've interviewed him a couple times and lanny somebody's a mayor of Jacksonville. Lenny, whatever. And I'm surprised mayor Lenny is not here welcoming everyone's favorite son in Duval county. That's right. Mike Griffith. Good to see you Mike. Lenny probably lost track of what day of the week it was. You got a little confused on the contract for the game. If he's making so much money off this game, 35 million hey, you gotta give Jacksonville in Florida. A lot of credit when you think about the economic impact that this game has every year and the fact that they've been able to keep Georgia coming down here every year, taking one of their designated home games away from their community. I mean, that's a great sales job and let me tell you, Florida is the tourism state. These folks know what they're doing. And this is a wonderful area, by the way. I do understand why this appeals to so many different people. If you haven't experienced it, it really is a nice area. It's great to see two years ago. We were here in I had a tie on and you did not lynching my tie and look at you now. I'm a whole I look like a homeless person and you're right it right out of the Brooks brothers catalog. I'm auditioning for the LSU job, man. I want some of that order on money, right? You got it. Everybody just show up and win national title. Now you get fired. You went national titles and you get fired. You do. It's a very rare mix. Coaches, who have won natty's and you're gone. You know, we always thought there was that one off, but not a two off. It's pretty amazing. And, you know, you got to wonder a little bit about who they're looking at. One of the guys that's got to be in the crosshairs. You got to think that Mel talker. I mean, you've absolutely when you look at what Michigan states done, there is no excuse or reason or why Michigan state should be 7. No, I covered that program not too long ago. And Michigan state did it with a lot of heart and effort and hustle and buying and then marked Antonio left, but for Mel Tucker to come in there and in year two, we're talking about a team that's 7 and this deep in the season. Now they haven't really played anybody, but staying undefeated is hard. There's less than what ten undefeated teams left and you know, people say, well, Mike, he can't go there. That'd be his third job in four years. Yeah, well, that worked out pretty well for a guy by the name of Nick Saban, who left Michigan state long ago for LSU, and that was his third job in four years when he took the Bama job. Well, speaking of jobs, I know the Florida fans are big. They're becoming. No. They were good to me a minute ago. What is this? And by the way, I hear, I've only been here for a couple hours, but I hear more and more gator fans agree with you right now than disagreeing with some of your comments about Dan Mullen. Yeah, well, you know, where I really went wrong with Dan Mullen was when he said that 8 and four was a great season at SEC media days I lost it. And really it was disrespectful to Florida to me because the Florida when I think about Florida football Paul, I think about a standard that was set by Steve spurrier. I think about coming here as a Tennessee beat rider to the swamp or when I cover an auburn to the swamp or Alabama playing floor. And when you beat Florida, man, you did something. That was a big deal to go into the swamp and get a win. And if the Gators didn't win 11 or 12 games, it was a bad year. So from when Mullen to say at SEC media days, we had a great season when they were 8 and four. It just turned me inside out. I said, is Florida going to lower their standards to? Because right now, this looks like an 8 and four season unless Florida can pull something off tomorrow. It's all downhill for the win out after this game. But if they can beat George, it saves the season. I think it saves the direction of the program. Otherwise we're talking about another 8 and four campaign. And what is the future of Florida football? By the way, I'm not being I'm not being disrespectful. I'm looking for something, because I want to read something to you in a minute because we had a guest on a few minutes ago that pretty much said that Florida lost one game this year because of bad officiating. It was one play away from winning another one. And it was Tim Tebow. And it should be it should be 6 and one. So there are those I realized Tebow's a little bit connected to the Florida program who don't agree with you about Dan Mullen, who really don't think this program is slip sliding away. And I just wanted to make sure you are aware of the person that sat in your seat about an hour ago. Well listen, I got, there's nobody that's got more respect for Tim Tebow than myself. And but he is a gator. And his job is to look at things from a Florida perspective. And to support his school and to support who the coach is and Tebow's that kind of guy. He's a loyal guy and I respect that. But the reality is very different from that message. When you look at what urban Meyer did and the championships that he won, but again, Steve's, listen, I'm going to tell you the truth here, Paul. Steve, you could put Steve's burger on the sideline right now and he would still win games in the SEC. There's no doubt in my mind. He is a fantastic football coach. I think Dan Mullen has the X's and the O's, but it takes more than that. It takes a CEO mentality. It takes organ. It takes a it takes foundation and Florida has fallen behind in the arms race. Okay, I apologize for looking away. I couldn't find it. So this is what this is what Tim said here a few minutes ago. I think sometimes all we do is look at results and we don't necessarily understand the why. And that's where some people need to step back and not be so emotional about looking at it logically and say your best player has been injured most of the year. I think that's Anthony Richardson. So he is he said, but he basically said he agrees to or just the best team in the country, but this is Tebow. But if you say, I don't know what floor that Florida is a top 25 team. I don't think anyone should listen to you when they talk about football. This is a very competitive team that has been missing a few pieces that could figure it out, and I do think they're a top 15 team. Maybe possibly ten people. Tim Tebow just got through saying that an hour ago sitting where.

"He was willing to stick by me and as a player as a person whenever you give an opportunity, it's important that you take full advantage of it. And that's something that I was able to do over the course of my time. If I could go back to Georgia for a second, because those memories that experience often doesn't always, but it often shapes a man's a young man's life. What did you take away from your time in Athens? So I was able to play under the tutelage of coach Rick and being witness to coach Rick and the way he lived his life. Every single day. You know, every single day he carried himself in a way that a parent that a person that a father a son can absolutely be proud of. And that was one of the things that I learned from coach Rick of how to do things the right way off the field. You watch how he interacted with his wife, how you interacted with his kids and how he carried himself as a believer in Christ it was easy for me to just kind of follow up on the some of the things that he was teaching us and one of the biggest things that I really took from my days that Georgia was to finish the drill. Any and everything that you start you finish it. Doesn't matter how you get it done, you finish it. And that's why I actually left school as a joiner. Went back to school 5 years later, completed my degree credits. I was the first round pick. Whenever you have an opportunity to be a first round pick, you can't pass that up. So that was one of the things that worked out for me and my favorite. When you think about it and you talked about your upbringing and your family, your mother couldn't give you. When you finally made it, when you finally were able to not only be successful, but help others and give back. What was it like to your family when they saw you as a shining example of a can do of doing it right? It was huge. I feel like it went away. It went a long way in inspiring the next generation. I feel like a ton of kids that kind of grow up in the same area that I grew up. Not only in my hometown, but the surrounding areas as well would look at my situation and would look at me and know that anything was possible. Because it was nothing special about me when it came to athletic ability or I just simply understanding the way out. I just dedicated myself to doing all of those things. So these kids can see that kind of dedication. They can commit themselves to doing the same things. And you know, it was awesome to just be that shining example for those kids for my family. And to actually go on and do things the right way throughout the course of my career is one of the biggest things that I take pride in. What an absolute inspiration. I mean I've seen you from a short distance and have known some of these things, but to be able to sit here and listen to this firsthand, it's been a real pleasure for me and I hope the audience as well. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thomas congratulations on the award today and hope you enjoy the weekend. And I hope you'll come back. I'm definitely excited about this weekend, man. It's all about the bulldogs. It's go dogs. Number one team in the nation number one defense in the nation. We know that defense wins championships, baby, so go dogs. Thomas Davis. What a treat. Thanks so much. Really a fantastic conversation with Thomas Davis..

"Jekyll island and all those places were all those dog people have got these condominiums for four days. Man, is there going to be some property destroyed tonight? And the inimitable Larry Munson 41 years ago right behind where we sit here stadium has changed with the location remains the same as we are in Jacksonville, final Friday of October and you know what that means. It's time for the Florida Georgia game and we can't wait. We have been here pretty much about the last 6 years other than last year, of course. And it is always a party and as always a great time. So we thank you for being a part of the program. Welcome to Jacksonville. Welcome to the weekend. And the skies have just cleared it. It was raining a few minutes ago, but it doesn't stop the fact that the Georgia Florida game is a rivalry. We're title dreams often go up in smoke. So this is a chart here for those of you watching and I'll describe it for those of you who aren't Gators, number three coming in here. George and number 5 and O 5. Back in O two, Georgia saw a season go up and smoke. What about 85? Remember that season? 7 O and one. Yeah. And of course 66, that was four years. Heisman year he mentioned it the other day. What happened in Jacksonville? Yeah, it's a pretty unique deal. It's the second time we're going to play the number one team in the same season. Not many people usually get to do that. That doesn't happen very often. And especially in a regular season. So. I think it would be a pretty big game for our guys. Obviously, this is always the Florida Georgia games always a big game for our guys. This game's not about rankings has never been about rankings. It's a rival game. Our kids understand that one of their losses was to Alabama in which they played a really good game at home, had an opportunity to win and then two road games. So it's not about records and don't think it ever is. It's a lot more about what we do, not about records. And Kirby smart and Dan Mullen talking about the big game, Georgia, about a two touchdown favorite, not that that has ever mattered in this conscious. There's another big game tomorrow night. Probably not getting the attention it deserves, but all mist traveling to auburn. The consequences are monumental, but contrast between lane kiffin and Brian. Those guys make plays. They play hard on special teams, and so you can tell they're well coached. This is important to him. They've had some good momentum. They created in games. They played in some tough environments. It would be awesome if our defense kept playing like this and we could play to our defense. I think that, you know, we're a good team that could be great. We definitely have our attention and our guys are looking forward to having a great week of practice. And then getting themselves ready to go play, I guess, a really good football team on Saturday night. So it's really interesting if all this can get past this game and the FBI is not crazy about them. How about next week, hey, Q freeze. He's the coach at liberty. Do you think he knows his way around vot Hemingway? Big favor there. They would be a favorite at home against a and M overwhelming favorite against Vanderbilt. And yes, they would even be favored on the road in the egg bowl. So this is critical for all myths. They win this game. They've got a shot. At going 11 and one, would that be enough to get them some playoff consideration? Perhaps. And don't forget, auburn is an interesting position as well. When tomorrow, and then they head to a and M next, we've got a big game looming in the future. Well, we mentioned that we are here and what are we going to do today? How about Tim Tebow in a couple of minutes? You think that will get some folks here excited? I better will. Chris Fowler. He is up in Big Ten country at Columbus. Molly McGrath and auburn, Thomas Davis, former all American at Georgia, all pro for the Panthers. On the sideline for the mister B state, game against Kentucky, Mike Griffith makes a in campus appearance. We're an off campus appearance. We saw him two three weeks ago at Athens, Roman Harper drops by in a couple hours. Lar? McGee? Couple of Gators right there. Well, not a guy, Midori, as he'll look ahead and pick the games of tomorrow. Let's get to some calls. We start with pat, who was in Georgia. Hey pat, good afternoon. Hey, Paul, thanks. By the way, trick or treat. I love the way you open the show with Larry Munson's greatest call. This Halloween weekend, I think the scariest thing in the SEC is Kirby's marks, George the defense. And I think that says it all sets and it'll play most of the game and the annual forget a little playing time to getting back into shape. Florida, they're going to use both quarterbacks and it won't be enough. It'll be 45 ten. Go dogs. What do you think? Thanks, pat. Yeah, pat I haven't made a final determination yet, but let's say party Marty or Marty party or however you want to call himself. Marty, what do you got? Hello, professor fine bomb. It's a pleasure to be here on the saving network. I don't get the call very. Thank you, because you know, we have jobs and our cases are in school. So we can hang around the sale of our control like some of the other regulars. But Paul, I just want to ask you a couple questions. I'm trying not to feel overconfident how bad the Gators are going to beat Georgia tomorrow and time to stomp on the dog's hard again. Like in the old spur of your year, I was there all 11 coats for your gains within victory. You should have won a 97 too. But Paul, you know, the door to people were so cocky because the last time they won the national championship, Jimmy Carter was president. So I guess we've got the second coming and Jimmy Carter so they think they got a chance. This year, but it's not going to happen. And I think if you're going to show clips, why don't you show some clips of Chris Doran school and will must camp in the 94 and the 95 games? You get to flip that person if I love to see that. But you know, Paul, I think it's the same thing I told you last year is the same old bulldog, the same YM B, you know what that stands for, don't you Paul? Why MB? I don't know that, no, tell me. Your mama's bulldog and it's time. Gator's bio over 14. Baby Tebow takes over. Don't be fun. Thanks Paul. John is up next in Louisville, hey John, go ahead. Oh my gosh, how do I follow that up other than he needs a drug test? Anyways, I do miss it. I used to live in panavia for years and I always remember that George of fans coming down the day before they really take over. But did you read the SIR code today titled college leaders to have go over expansion with $450 million on the line? Yeah, I did. And there's a lot of sentiment right now, John that the ACC, the Big Ten and the PAC 12 are pushing hard for this at this meeting next week for an 8 team playoff as opposed to a 12. And it would cost cost everybody a fortune. Yeah. 450 million because if they get 8 teams, apparently that's doesn't.

"The defensive they give up twenty seven points three hundred seventy yards and could not do anything to stop. Joe borough and those guys down the stretch. So if that's the case in week was embarrassing here comes cliff who you say my guy. He is my guy. I talked to him all the time. And you're all the read. It people are going to be like enough was schrager name dropping his friend. No i'm telling you here's the deal. He hasn't even touched the depth of the playbook. They were up by so much early. They were in their fourth quarter or four. Four minute offense last year it was like. Let's run our standard stuff like they got a whole part of the playbook for rondell more. They haven't used yet they haven't even gotten. Aj green good game. I think he was four for sixty eight and they wanted their last quarter and they used him in a really cool way where it's like. Hey let's go bubble screen go. You're you're you're the man. Rondo is gonna put up huge numbers this year but aj green is healthy and has a whole part of the playbook that they haven't even touched yet. I feel like this was. Oh my gosh. We're beating the titans by this much early on. Let's this call off the dogs and not show anything on film. They have a whole other part of this offense so cuyler who was running fifty yards in the backfield and then completing passes just an insane thing to watch it september. He's healthy. He hasn't been hit yet. This one to me is cardinals. And i think yet again. I think they put up a lot of points on a vikings defense. That was supposed to be much better. The season and there at jacksonville next week we should mention so as you know. We love narratives here. A million dollar picks the three. No cardinals feels like a narrative. Oh my god this. nfc west. Could we have four playoff good. Could we have six playoff teams in the nfc west one thing. I loved about that offense because the offensive line had. It's had its bad moments last year. Especially down the stretch against san francisco and la last year. Cuyler had an average of three seconds when he was under pressure before had to throw the ball last week he had more than five seconds. Back there so offensive line played better and that could be a result of tennessee's defense. Not getting what. They need out of their front four or whatever it is but gosh if tyler's got time back there he can extend a play with his legs. He's maybe. The most versatile rushing quarterback. I think he might be more dangerous. Threat than lamar even back there. As far as using his legs and then he's got this crazy where he like. Crow hops and thursdays wild sixty yard passes off his back feet. He's got four receivers. That are all really good in christian kirk was one of them really like the receivers. I like the rondo more edition. So they're only three and a half over the vikes you could put a pats cards parlay together for plus one sixteen so marked at the fuck down. Let's go next next to that. We have to mention in the tea. Party group seahawks minus six. And a half against the titans to believe that the titans are are just. Now we'll let me. Let's talk it out. The seahawks their minus three hundred. Three to one odds or you can put them in at t's There's there's red flags with this for me. Which is why had third. I hate the team. That looked awesome in week. one going. it's the team that looked like shit and week one. So you really have to commit to the titans bit. If you believe you're gonna put the seahawks and a teaser. Probably you have to think like that team sucks. The titans stink this year and in two weeks this line would be seahawks by nine and a half couple of things i would. Why would stay away from this altogether I don't know if you saw able in the post game just tear. Julio a new asshole did you see that are now though. So julio had dumb penalty is a fifteen yard penalty. And here's variable gets to the press conference and destroys. Julio like basically just completely rip them apart and his like it's unacceptable and on good morning football and the next day. And i'm talking to thomas davis who was a sixteen year nfl linebacker. He's filling in for nate this week. And i'm like gosh. That was harsh. Any says. No you need to do that. You need to call out your most established veteran and show that everyone is getting khris criticizes week for that effort. So yes should i. Brian did bryan. Curtis when it comes on yes all right. I'm gonna rip bryan curtis when it comes in. He's my establish veteran. Oh he's your guy you've had them for a long time. You need to do that when he comes on. I'm just going to start screaming at him. Okay keep going the way that that is. Though that's like variable almost sake red alarms sirens to everyone in the building like. No one is untouchable. All right if. I'm taking julio who is a hall of famer i we got to tighten. I'm taking on all of you till thinking you're thinking titans plus two forty five a little bit here. I'm not i would. I would not touch this game for the all. Be arthur line. Let's just go with that from the roast all right. I'm not touching it. That's all. I'm saying. I would stay far away because i think seattle is good but no idea what tennessee comes variable is what you call a red ass he will get into. There's no way they're coming out flat this week about the co. What about the cova. Pieces of it yeah. I think that might have played a role until week one. Yeah that's what i mean. So is that go way. Stay away. I would stay away from this team altogether and at least give me a couple of weeks. Before i bet against the titans as if they're a walkover..

"So it's like okay. Are we going to target this guy. Who is josh norman with dion sanders. Level athleticism or. Are we gonna talk. Dion or dante jackson like so. We'll see what happens. Hopefully the the saints target. Jc a little more and we can see a little bit more him but overall very happy with the defense. Obviously brian burns and hassan. Rettig the to joker style defensive end slash edge rushes. They have they can come from all over. The place both had big games. Brian burns had one sack would have had a lot more. Were it not for him. Being mugged on many plays he was held on just about every play. Yeah reading on radic. Had one of the half sack's as well including a forced fumble so they both want that golf cart. They wagered at the beginning of the year. Yeah and the nice thing for them. Is that the panthers defense. Put him in position where the jets had to pass the ball like. Yeah this is a big testament to derrick brown and decline jones on the inside because they were crushing jess ruts rush offense and if the panthers can get into most situations like that that situation where just take those. Two hyper athletic guys. Let them pin their ears back and run after the quarterback. So i don't have the numbers in front of me but i wanna say. We held the jets to two point nine yards per carry two point six two point six. Okay yeah so even better than i thought. I mean if you can do that and shut down the past like we did. I mean yes. Zach wilson's a rookie. I mean you know you'll win more than you lose. And i'm going to say this about the jets. I think we can move. I can move on. But i was impressed with zach wilson. I think he's going to be good. I think this is gonna be a rough year. But i think i i think they found their guy. I think i pretend to be like their guy. I spent most of like the last level ass college football season hoping that he would be defenders quarterback and then he played self out of our range. So i'm a little biased. But yeah i thought he was really good He took a while to kind of find his group but it seemed like once. He kinda got into rhythm. He didn't like the fact that he was able to get in a rhythm while getting like hit so much i mean he took off being. He took a beating. I still have yet to figure out. How derrick brown did not cuss him. I mean but quarterback and the concussion protocol is a little different for quarterbacks. Yeah but i mean it's head bounced off the ground and we had perf now so it was also buried on the play all like break his ribs as well. Yeah it was him and somebody else who was brown and somebody else who just fucking collided with him and he drove him into the ground. I was like holy shit. He's dead but he said after the game he felt like he got run over by a mack truck. Which i mean. That's what it looked like but one last point on the defensive line and this might be me just being a little more. High hyper optimistic optimistic. Let's say but the last time the panthers had to high end defensive tackles who can really stop the running clog up. The middle was starla tooling short and thomas davis and luke. Quickly eight behind those guys. Obviously those two were just in general two of the best linebackers in the league. But against the jets alexander and excuse me germain carter and shack thompson both had really good games and i think that having those two guys in front of them really take some a lot off their plates and just play linebacker. Fill the hole so it's a single numbers. Yeah i'm telling you man having a linebacker one wearing number seven in one way or number four that's frigging dope all according to talk radio because the the offensive line thinks are all safeties. So tom brady does better film about film study very loud. I love seeing them wearing number seven and number four. I thought that was awesome. I do like that. They did it. They announce it the day of the game. Yeah they totally did that. So zach wilson would get confused. That was totally gamesmanship for matt rule. I'm sure shaq thompson could afford to buy both their stock of jerseys. As while so. His giant fell to be honest. I think we could afford to buy. Germain carter's stock of. Jerseys are very many of them like five of them. The one last thing. I'll say before we move on. Brian baldinger the film. Study for the nfl or nfl network.

"A little higher than most people anticipated so that a former linebacker in the nfl. Pick jamie davis guy. Who you know coach. Luke keithly and thomas davis jason davis stud. I think would would make me dead wrong. I think ryan fitzpatrick continuing to grow off of Some of his better seasons in recent memories could make me dead wrong Antonio gibson Becomes a you know borderline elite running back And then division just sucking. I mean i think that's very possible that this division is not good I'm kind of with you. I think the eagles are gonna be better than most people expect Don't know totally what to think of the giants. That defense last night for the cowboys look like same old. Same old mike. Parsons didn't know what the hell he was doing out there So i i think that's all i could be absolutely dead wrong with this prediction yeah. I thought mike parsons had A up and down night. There were times where he looked like a rookie playing in the nfl for the first time and then there are other times where he clearly flashed and you could see the athleticism If if i told you that an nfc east team is going to win. More than eleven games. Would you be shocked and be. Who would it be. I don't wanna be prisoner of the moment. i think it would be dallas. Maybe they figure things out defensively You know they don't have that. I play schedule. So i mean granted for dallas right there. Crossover is new england on the road. So it's not like they get a pass In that regard the eagles get the chats. Everyone else gets a pretty hard opponent there But they get. I believe arizona if i remember correct Nfc west But i think with that offense. I mean my god i mean they have so many freaking weapons all over the place and i i think this feeling on them is in my opinion the highest of anyone in the in the division because maybe dan quinn can start figuring things out maybe like the parson Is a you know can become what we all kind of expect him to become so. That's yeah.

"Filmed a segment so we filmed for about thirty minutes. Car segment. actually. It was terrible. Just jammed it in for some reason i have. I had no reason to be there but we were gonna film something zone. I believe and so once everybody was done me. And you're like all right. I guess we'll just hit the keithly member now. tiki was i taught. Thomas davis that was tough. Obviously jesus christ loves you. Know the top of the whole thing but when you showed up you saved us. We're in the middle of a lot of conversations that we're not gonna drink for sure. Oh yeah is or something. Wrangling come on pat. Did you see when they throw yup brett farve okay. Let's talk. lauper is brought him up. show us he said. The kids should not be tackling football. And i literally just based on jesuit walking off an eight year olds practice harder your thoughts on brett farve thoughts on on football stuff but we can get into breakfast thoughts on everything else brett farve thing but your thoughts on brett farve saying hey. Cpt's real thing there. They shouldn't be damaged that young age. As being coach of those young age kids tackling each other thoughts age eighty. Something i think about all the time. I think about that at my kids practice. Yeah i was. I knew brett had talked about in the past right like different issues that he may have suffered from but to see the produced like peace slash commercial infomercial. He did it for like what the kid a little bit. And then like medium brett and then current daybreak. They're all talking about young rock. It will not that you didn't see that the video put out of him. Yeah no it's a video. It's a whole product for this production that they put together and had like a guy representing little mid medium britain. Old brittany's talking. Yeah you guys need to watch the whole thing. My mom actually texted me about it. She's like have you seen this video. I had no idea he was against kids. Point football and all that. And so. I mean yeah. There's a kid. They hired an actor to be young. Brett was the guy that Was teaching david how to plays most recent role in the movie the playing old breath or which one who what else is bred against. I don't know what is he. Just you know. I was just wondering how young brett farve there's medium breath. Sean astin bennett terry. He's young any such a young jet black hair back when he was young. I guess listed little make jelly. Exactly what you're saying. Yeah listen too. Many kids is it a real thing. How long is this video. It's one minute. I don't know if i could play it or not. A zoom in on that bottom. How many two hundred four thousand four two four two four point eight people have seen this video deal jay. You're part of the problem not solution. We know numbers are down like with youth football over the country. So i would imagine. This isn't going to help them. Numbers are down for. Nfl does what do you mean. What do you mean. This was my take Whenever all the war on is out there saying hey we're not gonna have enough people playing or whatever you know. Yeah by palm barlow whose kids reporting run into each other. I don't care about the sites. Okay down there in south florida there fucking run it into each other young age. Okay everybody i think live neighborhoods where people end up in the nfc centerville. I don't fucking stopping serve ohio. There's a lot of the neighborhoods that produce a large portion of the nfl people Players in the nfl. I i don't think that war on football ever tracked into their community ever. I understand that brad might open some other people's eyes. But i don't think there's you know what i mean. I don't think that's ever going to happen. Be down like orange county and montoc but never conard. Where was school. You went to Buckingham. brian nichols occur off of coordinator. The seattle seahawks. Are you talking about. That's cool talk all right. Well no pat and who. I think it was l'amante david who came on here. Who said they were doing. Oklahoma drills and alleys like. I don't think those kids are not playing football anymore because of the science either. Now there's there's portions of america where law the nfl guys come from okay. I happen to be from one of them. And i'm not an actual football player. I'm just a guy punt kick them but tackle. Football is never gonna stop. It doesn't matter how many doctor will smith's come out. It doesn't matter it's not it's the brett farve can do a young rock all right and have different stages abrek do that thing and i think that's very admirable but i think there's going to be people that are always gonna be against bullshit you know there's just always gonna be that because both provides such an opportunity for a lot of things for so many people i mean it is in a teaches like all sports although yeah you wanna keep head injuries out. You don't need we know it's not good for any young kid to to bang his head off his teammates in practice and in games. But it's like you got to look at everything though. I think if the valuable life lessons you learned like you've heard tom brady kind of talk. About what playing football being on a team has done for his life and how it's affected every aspect. So there's a lot on the positives negatives. Hey i grew up in the football community was was a culture shock to you when you actually finally on a team in west virginia fulltime. Yes one thousand percent. It was like galileo. Was it different way different than any other sport like soccer team or anything else. Yeah so like. I think soccer team locker room. You know soccer's like marathon sport. You're not so. I think everybody's like it's a different mentality baseball. Like your casually have more games and just hanging out more yeah. It's just a much more relaxed. I think also the diversity. I think now it was different. You know like. I got a chance to play with guys that grew up in long island new jersey and all over the place you know and like the most middle east i. I had some middle eastern teammates and everything like that that was teammates with and it was interesting. You know they can fascinating learning about the world that way but football you learn about america quick like i learned a lot more about america. I football locker room in the lessons. That i learned you know through football as opposed to what the soccer environment isn't a soccer culture is as opposed to the football culture. It's like i feel like. I fit in like soon as i wanted to a football awkward months ago. I feel like this is where i probably should have been for a long time even though i was incredibly intimidated for incredibly just quiet but it felt like just like that atmosphere not only interacting with people but relying on people that are much different than us to do their jobs so that you can be happy..
"thomas davis" Discussed on Pardon My Take
"But who is the most important player on that defense while i. That's a good question because when you when you look at it. I mean i could give you several different guys for several different reasons so More than anything else say. There's not one there really isn't And and i say that because certain guys serve certain roles jon allen might be one of the best natural leaders i've been around Really asked But then you'll get jon bostick. Who's who's probably the most unselfish guys. I've been around. I mean here's a guy that everybody's been since i've been here has been competing for his spot. And all he does is work with these young guys and healthy shunned guys appointees guy young guys in the in the right direction And so you feel like a guy like that is type of guy you want out there and then you look at the secondary and you look at the different mix of guys we have back there and there's a kid named jeremy raves and to me he epitomizes. What grid is you know. The kid comes in last year has a tremendous training camp tremendous. And we're going to release them but we're going to bring him back. And i say jeremy i said look. This was a very tough situation. We're going to bring you back if we bring you back. Just want you. To know you'll have every opportunity to make and beyond the fifty-three we had some injuries and instead of bringing in one of my former players. I said jeremy i'm gonna give you your shot because you earned it and i promise you i would and by doing that by me saying that and sticking to my word and jeremy telling the other guys. A coach told me he stuck to his word. That is helped me. That has resonated with the other guys that if i say something to you i'm gonna follow it through and that's what i did and so maybe not just on defense but on the team as a whole just this young man because of what he showed me and what he held me too. I think has helped me. And that's why. I think he's very important to us. Conversely if we're talking about star players and how you coach them up we are who was Brandon staley on the rams that we talked to talk to him about like the responsibility that comes with coaching a generational. talent on defense how do you. How do you coach. I like Like a lewke clear. Thomas davis even or in this case like chase yang. Looks like he's going to be that guy. What's your coaching philosophy in terms of. Do i put this guy in his position to make plays do. I have him attack a certain way. Do i scheme him. In a way that. I won't ski mothers or like. How does that factor into decision making you know. I got a little bit of advice. From jimmy johnson Hall of fame coach now and he told me he said ryan he. You're not gonna be able to treat everybody the same but just treat everybody fair and so what you try to do from the beginning with a kid like that with the young man like that is you. Want to treat him like you treat everybody else. Okay treat him fair and then you hold him accountable. Just like you hold yourself accountable. And that's kind of the thing that i've tried to do. You know being around leuke clothing around. Thomas davis and bryner lacquer and guys like that you know there's something special about those guys but they they more importantly don't think about themselves i but about their teammates. And that's what you see with chase chase if you watch him in practicing you watch game once. After he's got done going through the adjustments. Where do you see him. He's standing there cheering for the offense. He's chilling for those guys. I mean he's you know. Montas sweat gets a second. Who's the first guy to congratulate him. Choice so guys like that those generational type players are really epitomized saying that great people great players raise the standards and the plays of other people. And that's what the guy like that does And you don't necessarily always try to put them in a place that they always have success individual. You put him in position that the team has success. And that i think is one of the more important things because i promise you. Watch her donald. They put him in position that dude's get double teamed doesn't matter where they put him people are going there he is over there but guess what that does now if they're going to double team and they've got a double team someway over here and that gives opportunities for the team to be successful because now this is being doubled and we see he's been triple-teamed. Well that's what we have to do with a guy like chase. We gotta put in position that sure he can have success but we can benefit from it as well so you. We love being around football guys. You are football guy Who have been around football for so long. You've been with some of the best coaches you've been coached by some of the best coaches water. What's the lesson that you've taken from. A guy like mike ditka and a guy like buddy ryan and used in your career as a coach With mike ditka honestly it was Really the story about that. This is coach dick and never asked anything of us that he couldn't do okay and i remember one time during training camp and i said you know he was. He was chewing our asses all over his crushing us. So i said it was the coach so we had a moment. I said coach. What the hell. I mean you're always on us. You're always pushing impounded screaming yawn. I said you know why. What what what good comes of this. And he looked at me. Surani our never ask you guys to do something i didn't do. And it hit me dawned on me at that moment that some gun dues a hall of famer right so he has a highest standard. I mean it is up here. And he believes because he'd been up there we can be up there and so it made me just realized that so of our players. I try to make sure they understand. What the standard is what. What's expected of them. And i think that helps our players. You know With buddy ryan. It was always about us team. Us group us always us and we fight for us everybody else but us and and he had this way of getting it everybody to pull in together and he always stood up for us as a team and then as defensive unit and and i know one thing is he never wanted coach dick to yell at any of any of the defensive players so buddy would always take the brunt of it for us. But then he'd come back and he give you a piece of his mind. But but but believe me i mean you you feel you feel like dang dude willing to step in for me man. That's so always thought that. Hey you know if something happened. I would always take the blame. I would always say shoulders. Broad enough guys. i'll take it and i learned. I learned tremendous lessons from being around coach. Dick and i'll learn some great lessons being around buddy ryan and and it's a good point because you can see as a viewer..

"Do they kendall fuller. I mean is he ronald darby. Jimmy morlin dany. Johnson have a rookie starting at safety. Strong safety Goodness i this is going to be a slot. I think the most popular player on the washington's football teams punter. He's trustworthy yeah. Oh yeah. He's hugely popular stopping. What's that say. Oh gosh ryan kerrigan. Still i didn't know ron carey was still on the team. He's good he is good. Why does he again. But he's behind chase young defensive in. Yeah so how does he. They must they. Must've they switched if you're getting if they're draft somebody for your position. Will you know grandeur on various team. Play the people he likes. They must have switched from a three four two four three. Because i don't see that's how little i know about the redskins. The different quarter is jack. Del rio which brady is like nine to one. And one against jack del. Rio defense of the body is it's like north. Turner is is door turner on this team. Though he used to coach flip yeah useful to their offensive. Ron rivera as offensive coordinator. Right is he still. I don't know did ronaldo carolina. Yeah i can't hide. He's he's always been so horrible. I don't know i don't wanna say horrible. But he's definitely horrible head coach. No doubt about that. Yeah you know but you think. I'm mediocre coordinator. I just. i don't know if they win. It's because tom. Brady has an aneurysm on the field. The an asteroid has to hit somewhere close by something. I mean really serious. I mean i'm not. I'm being funny but i'm dead serious a we gotta go out. And here's what i wanna do. I wanna live tweet all the fans the redskins fans i mean the football team fans in the bar shuffle time before after. Yeah yeah a mean that's me. I would be surprised to see any redskins fans out the i would be. I know they'll probably one or two. Probably many buccaneers fans are lucy. Football team fans and You know as far as their wide receiver core they got tear maclaurin and a their second leading. Receivers are tight end. Right those my point i would say. They're receiving corps consists of tear mclaren. Well i don't even know who he is sir to some to catch. How about like. I think being redskins country and kind of having four stone. You are football team country in having it forced on you. It's like your brain like rebels and rejects. I will not care so logan. Thomas is your lead now see. That's not good for us because our core is little weak in the coverage area but but listen. He's only got six hundred seventy yards on this even so it's not even that much and six touchdown what right i mean they could. Winters played atlanta falcons. Who have one matt ryan ridley Gosh who else are they. They got a good group of a gauge They got a good crew of tight. Ends alex stocker and all these guys. Hearst and They got twenty seven points on us. We for four okay. I don't think the washington football team is going to scores. Twenty seven points on us. They're not even near the offense that atlanta fields and we're going to score forty four points. Well there's nobody on their team. That could score four touchdowns. I didn't think they have accorded. They could put two quarterbacks out there at the same time. And i don't think they can score four touchdowns on us but their defense ranked second and they gave up the fourth fewest points per game so they gave up twenty point six points a game i mean. They held Seattle the twenty points per right and let's look at. Let's look at Seattle wear seattle on. Okay there one two three four five six seven in the league in offense all right something of that nature right. That's the highest team. They played offensively this year. We played gave city trees. Green bay packers The new orleans saints to ran. I mean we played a lot of high powered offense of teams and our defenses still op. Their their defense is only up there because they played crappy teams. He eagles and the giants won't man and they lost twice. They lost to the giants. They lost to the giants twice. "Never had the hatton. It is the and the complaining and the bad by that. Should this poudel poudel on them. He got to you know to a situation. He didn't have. Let's listen to some of the things that he actually did. Man this guy was really tripping so they saying no. gm had him rated in the first round he he was supposed to be a third round. Pick always okay. So so he said into the first round which which is good for him but then after you silence into the first round okay. You hold a draft. A party hometown at hometown bowling. And then you charge for mission for people to attend to support you address. A fifteen overall against the wishes of the front office and coaching staff in a pick. You the first thing you say when you walk up on a stage is the lead the league in messed up okay. So this is just a little immature He had the incident when with strippers where he had the mask off now. The reason why that was a bigger incident is because we will most might not know. Ron rivera suffers from cancer. So here you have a coach that you're going to interact with who who suffering from cancer having to go through chemotherapy in dealing with all these ups and downs in their strict protocols in washington throughout the nfl. They say hey. This is what we have to do. We have to protect our family. We have to protect people in this organization. So for you to be the head of the organization or right under as the starting quarterback and the caught. Yeah you get caught out in dc with those kinds of pictures with your coach living with cancer. That's that's that's that's a big slap in the face to the organization and character garrett Lack of character that speaks to the type of person. You are a me guy me me me me me me where. That's why not by picked him up on waivers depart and i've seen how to that same thing. E was thomas davis. Pulled him up a cat and like you know this your you bet you. That's my god. Bless you draft players. Ag may be a hall of famer like coastal remains an odd td. You up bro serious. It ain't ate. He's trying to teach you something not to mention. He's not being nasty got but he his experience lebanon says. Hey quarterback if i gotta pull you off to the side in the middle of practice practice and let you know what's going on what you need to be saying. That is somebody you don listened to not trying to tell. Thomas davis you're not talking about a fifteen year vet. You don't know what you're talking about as a you just starting year two. What are we talking about here. Man what are we talking about here. So but what i will say. Is this now. Somebody's pundits are here like booking befallen. He shouldn't have generalized it in saying all. They were quarterback quarterbacks top top players in the league. Mahone the shawn. Watson jackson wilson. Those exemplary guys right and community or sale. I mean never heard a quarterback or he was saying african american players. Play say quarterbacks lieber saying players. He said that play. So i said the top five players in the league who you know who ought facing a franchise Saying that's the standard you. Write an always got mad at the narrative like.

"Up, so we we do. I will say this way have some of the best law enforcement training. I would put our our training and our trainers. And what we go through right up there with anybody. I mean way practice and we train and we qualify. Um we are very well trained individuals, and I think that's why this this doesn't happen. No more often is because because of that night I know Kevin was extremely well trained. He He took his training. Serious. Um You know, I like said no demand for years, just a super good officer. We were really, really praying for him and his family media accounts. He was there airlifted to University of since I'm Medical Center, which is about The best facility in the world for gunshot wounds they have about 400 a year they come through there and there's no there's no facility in the Midwest. We'll go with go with Dave in Dayton. Indian and Columbus and Pete Implant, Chester and I always like to highlight individuals who live simple lives in good ways. And I never met Kevin Bear likely never will meet him. This is a wildlife officer was committed to the to the performance of his duties. He stumbled upon a situation unbeknownst to him was suddenly life and death. And the fact that the only felony charge of this point Is disqualified from possessing firearms due to a disability, which would likely be a previous criminal conviction indicates to me that maybe in the first blush, Clinton County Authorities did not believe it was an intentional shooting. But we'll see what comes of it. The individuals involved Thomas Davis of Jamestown and Brian Ackerman of Midland, Ohio, have been charged with hunting without a license. Both are misdemeanors. On the main perpetrator is Brian are lining. L I am I n g 49 Years old of Xenia. He starts with hunting without a license, both misdemeanors and having weapons while under a disability. Which is a felony. So he's walking around the woods, I guess to shoot deer or something with no license. So, uh, tell you what, Let's uh let's take a caller to with Dave's permission, then we'll continue at 1 45. We have, uh, John Francoise. Foolish. Foolish. A here. Talk about difficulties of operating restaurants. I know Britney Ruby and, uh, the Gregorys difficulties, Charlie Blood, so I know What? Uh, what happens that trios Another fine facilities. Is this difficult? The strong survive and those will survive was gonna be tough about everyone else. Let's continue now With David dating, then we'll take a short break after this. And David Dayton. Welcome to the Bill Cunningham Show and Dave, How are you? Really Merry Christmas to you and your first lady and let me just first say, umm humbled and honored to be one of your final callers of 2020. Thank you my wishes for 2020. Want. 2021 is too clean over here. Andy Boo hoo! Both years or governor, The Grim Reaper Mike Wein give their weekly press conferences and we can get over this. So you're done. You're done like you give the wine credit in this sense. There's less restrictions here than in Kentucky, Pennsylvania or Michigan and so well. Barely, But I mean I had I had the honor. Tonto Walk my oldest daughter down the aisle on Friday, my first to be married down and your church thing Xavier on Sycamore, which was the beginning of Xavier University. Um and but it went from a 250 person ceremony to about 35 immediate family only. And the reception up in Mount Adams that the view, which was the old flesh, you'll, and we're having a great old time. And, uh, you know, here's the fat thing that Willie is by orders of the governor and the priests. We had to sit in our pews with math on even though I was next to my wife and kids and all the family that I Be every day and then you know, we got the last call at 9 45 is where in mid stroke and having a great old time up with the view and Mount Adams to, you know, to make sure we're all usher or world hitting the door by 10 o'clock and, um, you know, there's just a lot of unnecessary things. My business is a medical sales. I've had to lay off three employees because sales is hard enough to call on doctors and hospitals and normal situations, too. Blown off. But you give co bit excuse and it's you have to have a solid appointment just to get your butt in a door to see anyone. So you know how much Again. There's two been to too much other destruction is gone on with, you know again, you could. Yes, Governor. The wine's better than, um, the California goofball. Theo. It's my daughter and her now husband came from San Francisco. They had that they fled two months early, quit their job because they had enough with being live. Newsome. Yeah. You have a new some man. On even there, man. Just they they've had in the city of San Francisco only 173 covert deaths this year they had 678 overdose death, but it's You know, So, um Yeah, I, um I I hope that, um on 11 last thing I know, will you You've got a time frame of when your last days on the big ones are in a couple of years. But we need you for Trump 2024. If you could let me say this, I told Scott Reinhardt that have Trump runs for reelection. I'm going to stay here till November of 2024. "Not really coming into Great America. Let's continue in about one hour. This is my tradition for many decades, my last guest of the year. Will be Joseph TNT deters the county prosecutor just re elected by a wide margin by acclamation. Also in about 35 minutes is John Francoise Fillon Jai, who owns a Belgium waffle about the difficulties of the restaurant business. And your calls from Mary Jo and Dean and Dave and Peyton maddened thousands of others, But I was taken aback and I talked to chip hard earlier today. About a 25 year. Veteran wildlife officers shot in the line of duty yesterday afternoon. Officer Kevin Bear was investigating deer poaching complaint in Clinton County. And he was shot seemingly through the activities. Brian lining or Lemming l I am I n g of Xenia. 2035 year old Thomas Davis of Jamestown and 36 Year old Brian Ackerman of Midland. Only one charged with a felony is Brian Lining. 49 years old of senior. He's charged with having a weapon while under a disability, the disability being normally it's a It's a criminal conviction, and you can't have a gun. And I talked Tohno part and he said the best guy to talk to is the executive administrator of information for the Division of Wildlife, which is part of O d. N. R that is Brian Banbury and Brian Barbera. Brian Banbury for the first time. Welcome to the Bill Cunningham Show and Brian, How are you? Great. Well, I appreciate you having me on and being able to talk about this and Kevin Baroness family. Let's talk about this because Kevin Barry's doing okay. I mean, you're not a doctor, but according to media accounts, he was shot. But that he's going to survive. Is that fair to say, I you know that's what we're hearing at this point. I mean, he's definitely not out of the out of the woods yet. Um, so I personally have known Kevin um and his wife, Kathy, for over 30 years. Well, you know, obviously, we're all family here at the innovation of wildlife. But beyond that, Kevin and Kathy and I all went to college together, eh? So I've known the family a little time before my due in my court current role now. Was announcer for over 20 years, including eight of those as an investigator like Kevin is now so I've got a real connection toe, not only the family, but the line of work that he was in How dangerous is this line of work? Well, you know, it's like anything else. I mean, it's you know, I'll be. Obviously there's there's careers in this in this world that Have Ah, um, element of risk that are higher than others. And you know, we are fully commissioned, Uh, state law enforcement officers. Um, you know, we run in You know, 90% of people you run into every day or are awesome people just out hunting, fishing, trapping things like that. But, you know, without, you know, knowing all the particulars of this case just in general. There's another percentage you run into that you know, is a different individual and And and that could be an issue Now. Once again, I don't know the particulars. Where, where early in this investigation? Um, the Claremont County Sheriff's Department is in charge of it. They're handling it weak. We have the division world. I've had the utmost faith and they're all search down there and investigators and being over there to do a good investigation here for us, But it's hard to speculate on a lot of the details at this point. Well, you know, as a civilian, I'm thinking it was intentional. It might have been unintentional. Course, If you shoot a wildlife officer that could be a smudges in aggravated murder, facing ultimately, the death penalty If he dies, or life imprisonment without possibility of parole. You cannot shoot a law enforcement officer. An officer Kevin Bear was a law enforcement officer. So that's a problem. On the other hand from the small charges being filed at this point, which you know, a felony is not good, but it's got nothing to do with shooting the officer. The implication is this might have been accidental. You're saying you're not sure which it is at this point? Well, I'm just saying, it's it's too early. You know to for the rumor mill or or to speculate, you know, we do. Long putting Moon course right. You doing investigation for a reason, right? It's to rule everything else out and include everything that's fact. And, you know, t even try to speculate on this, you know, at this point would certainly not be responsible. I mean, You've got to let the process play out, do the investigation, realizing that that once the investigation is completed, but then that will be presented to the prosecutor's office. And what's very blow, possibly other or serious charges or other charges could be considered. Um, It just depends on the fact of the matter, and that's what we that's how they charged crimes and that's all the investing a prince. Least on the fact of the matter. So you gotta let the facts of the matter play out. Brian Banbury. How often is this the problem in the enforcement of Division of wildlife laws? Is this a common event to have an officer shot or is just someone unusual? Uh, thankfully, somewhat unusual. Um, you know it. It doesn't happen Every day doesn't happen, you know, often come across the course of our nation. You know, every every state has has wildlife officers and Natural resource enforcement staff. And then thankfully, this is not, you know, not a common occurrence. But you know any time is one too many, No question about it, and as far as that we'll see what occurs. And the future, But I would imagine when you're enforcing wildlife laws, you might run into a drug operation, you might run into somebody illegally growing marijuana. You could run into someone with a fugitive warrant from another state. You may run into circumstances that you it's like a police officer walking up to a car on a speeding violation. And suddenly you're apurate seeked apperance somebody on a fugitive warrant from another state and wants to kill you. You don't know when you're walking around the woods. What Tell you gonna confront you have no idea. No, that's that's that's very good factor. Go matter of fact, In my course of the career, I have ran into every single situation You just described. You leave the house, you know, expecting to go, you know, check Christian life of things like that, and you're right and run into a drug deal. You run into Someone with very serious warrant. You do run into other situations were out there protecting the resource and the.
