Nebraska Gov. to sign 12-week abortion ban, restrictions on gender-affirming health care for minors
"Nebraska's Republican governor Jim Helen is set to sign a 12 week abortion ban and restrictions on gender affirming healthcare for minors. The abortion ban would take effect immediately the restrictions on gender affirming care would take effect October 1st, Nebraska's conservative led legislature passed the bill that included the two contentious issues Friday after hours of heated debate. The law restricting gender affirming care was the flash point of an epic filibuster led by democratic Omaha senator Michaela kavanagh, who slowed the business of passing laws to a crawl, Bill opponents have promised to sue to try and block the law. North Carolina Gov. vows to give women most access possible with new abortion ban
"North Carolina's democratic governor vows to give women the most access possible following the state's new 12 week abortion ban, which takes effect July 1st. Meanwhile, Nebraska's legislature also passed a 12 week abortion ban and restrictions on gender affirming care for minors. North Carolina governor Roy Cooper had vetoed the legislation, but the states Republican led assembly voted to override that veto. We're going to make sure that this bill gets implemented in a way that we provide the most access possible to women. He also says the bill was contradictory, conflicting, confusing, and open to interpretation while not a compromise. This is in no way a reasonable compromise as Republicans have presented it. It's a compromise between the right wing and the radical right wing. Cooper made his comments on NBC's meet the press. I'm Julie Walker.

Tiffany Fong Is One of Our Favorite Influencers in the Crypto Space
"I first heard of you, Tiffany, when you kind of like kind of burst onto the scene. Loudly with some leaked messages between you and Sam bankman fried and then I was like, wow, what's going on? Who is this woman? How did she get this conversation? Is she just a reporter? And so I always thought you were a reporter. And then I started to realize, as I learned more about you, that you're not like a journalist or you're more of an influencer. So I want to actually bring you on the show and hear from you, what you've been up to in the crypto space, how you found yourself in the position you're in. You know, a little bit about the Tiffany fong story. I mean, I think a lot of people think I'm a federal agent, just I heard that too. I get that probably the most, so it was very quick. I don't know, everything did happen very quickly. I only started posting on Twitter and only started my YouTube channel after Celsius is collapsed so that was like in June, July, July last year. So I mean, I haven't been even really using Twitter or YouTube dot log. So it was a quick, I guess, rise. It's not like I have like a massive massive following, but things grew very quickly. So I feel like that's why people come up with a bunch of weird theories about the fact that I'm like a federal agent or whatever. Yeah, and I would say the picture of you and Joe Biden didn't help that. Yes, okay, that's what it is. See to me, I think nothing of that because I wasn't invited by Biden and it wasn't like some cool invite. Like someone who watches me on YouTube just slid into my emails and was like, hey, invite to The White House and I was like, this is a scam. This has got to be fake, but it turned out to be someone who I think works in the Secret Service and they wanted me to be their plus one. So I always forget that that even happened. I wasn't like some cool invite to The White House or anything like Joe Biden. That's a pretty cool invite to The White House, a plus one for the Secret Service.

South Carolina moves closer to abortion ban, a Southern trend that puts pressure on Virginia
"Another southern state appears ready to pass tighter new restrictions on abortion access, joining about a dozen other localities in the south. The South Carolina House of Representatives just passed a near ban on abortion access after 6 weeks before many women even know they're pregnant, and the state Senate will likely take a vote next week. It was one of the few places left in the south for those seeking abortions. With North Carolina lawmakers this week, overriding the governor's veto of their 12 week ban, which will now take effect July 1st. Doctor Erika pettigrew is disappointed. Really devastating to have a patient in front of you who needs something that you could clearly give, but the lawmakers tell you that you can't. She says she's been helping out of state women get abortion care and now she'll be helping her own patients to other states. The moral injury to physicians and to other medical professionals just can't be underestimated. Virginia remains an outlier in the south, where women still have unrestricted abortion access. So I'm as a board certified emergency physicians working on the front lines when COVID came to our shores and I didn't like the medical tyranny and the propaganda and the censorship. So a lot of people are familiar with you and with that story and they can find you at doctor Simone gold dot com. John strand, what's your story? What's the short version of your story? The short version is I am not a doctor. But I was very excited and grateful to see doctor gold stand up to the front lines during that time. Shortly before that, and that was July of 2020. But I was keyed into the oncoming tyranny, really in January, February of 2020. My internal instinct, Spidey sense was on full alert, and I was in the streets of Los Angeles where I lived as an artist and actor and so forth. US adds a solid 253,000 jobs despite Fed's rate hikes
"The jobs market is still showing surprising strength as despite rising interest rates high inflation and a banking crisis. Employers added 253,000 jobs last month. The solid showing came as the government reported hiring was weaker than previously estimated in both February and March. The unemployment rate is down to 3.4%, matching a 54 year low, but it fell in part due to some 43,000 people leaving the labor force. Hourly wages rose last month at the fastest pace since July, something that may alarm the Federal Reserve as it tries to fight inflation. The fed's been boosting interest rates in a bid to cool the economy just enough to tame inflation without causing a recession. Sagar Meghani, Washington.

Washington state to decriminalize drugs unless lawmakers act

"Tell us about the book. I'm just reading about here. I mean, you lived through a lot, but you go back to your faith. And that's what's so important. I mean, I believe we're in a spiritual war. I think that what you are experiencing as press secretary was just a manifestation of the invisible, but the byline of your book or the subheader is living through chaos by leaning on Christ. That's really rarely said by most people in public life. I think that's beautiful. Tell us about it. Yeah, you know, it struck me that we are in a moment that is bigger than any one president bigger than anyone political movement. Look elections are important, Charlie, absolutely. I think the country would be better off if Joe Biden was in our president, for example. But something bigger is happening where the cultural tectonic plates of our country have shifted in such an enormous way where faith is under attack, freedoms under attack, the family unit is under attack. And just one example that's personal to me as mom, you know, education. You look, you talk about education all the time. But the Supreme Court was very clear when they knocked prayer out of schools, which by the way, a woman named Madeleine Murray o'hair in atheist, someone who was a Marxist really who wanted to be a member of the Soviet Union. She was the one behind removing prayer from schools. Her son, William Murray, goes on to become a Southern Baptist minister, he leaves behind his drug life, Christ totally transforms him, and he said this, and it stood out to me July 17th, 1963, was the first day Baltimore's children could not pray in schools. Before that date, there had never been a murder in a Baltimore school. If you want to ask what is happening in our country, when you remove God in young people have nothing to turn to, but social media and selfies and self worship. That is when you get the suicide rates we're seeing, the violence and all of the troubling outgrowths of completely leaving God behind.

Sen. Ron Johnson on Blinken's Lies About Meeting With Hunter Biden
"Dive right into it. I see here new emails show Tony blinken line to the U.S. Senate under oath about meeting with Hunter Biden, senator tell us about it. Well, Charlie, well, what he lied about is that he said he didn't ever email Hunter Biden. Remember, center grass and I were investigating Hunter Biden late 2019, early 2020. Remember December 2019, the FBI took possession of his laptop to 2020 was COVID. It wasn't easy to do an investigation. People wouldn't come in for interviews, but a number of people from the State Department did come in for interviews. We actually had an interview scheduled with Anthony blinken. Remember, he was deputy Secretary of State. And at some point in time, he decided to cancel that. The election happens, and then lo and behold, because he wanted to become Secretary of State, he decided to come in for an interview. And so we transcribed in and if you ask them all kinds of questions, we are primarily concerned about the May 27th meeting that he had scheduled with hunter, which got canceled because bull Biden died, I think, three days later. But then the follow-up meeting, a launch immediately occurred in July of 20 21. Of 2020. And so we want to ask him, what did he and hunter talk about and what he told us? No, it's just golf and grandkids. It's going to be golf and grandkids, just like Lois Lerner, remember that not low sort of Loretta lynch with Bill Clinton. Just golf and grandkids. Right. So again, they talked about Boeing. So how can you really press them too hard on that when you're talking about the tragedy of losing a brother? But during that interview, we asked him point blank. What kind of communications do you have with hunter? I mean, did you talk to him on the phone? He said he really didn't. We asked him, well, do you communicate him through email and text? And he said, no, now what we've seen because of the Hunter Biden laptop is we have emails where Anthony blinken was emailing Hunter Biden and probably even worse. His wife, Evan Ryan, is her name. She worked for the State Department also under Obama.

"I think it really comes back to the capital side of things once again. And I think a lot of people when they think crypto in general think all the capital might rest on the token side of things and the Ethereum and smart contracts the world. But mining is highly capital intensive. These are not cheap energy contracts that we're talking about. These are not cheap facilities. We're talking about in the machines themselves are also very expensive, especially when Bitcoin is mooning because if you think about it, these machines are just Bitcoin printers, right? So they're going to track the price of Bitcoin. When newer generation machines were coming out in 2020, 2021, their price around 2000 to 2500 USD, that changed when Bitcoin price went up to the point where we saw your S 19 asic, which is essentially like the stock version of any AC you're going to buy nowadays. Costs about $10,000. So it's a 5 X gain on the cost and an individual minor. Those miners were then supposed to be placed into facilities in Texas and Georgia and Washington and Canada, but the problem is we had this post COVID issue with supply chains and we had all these miners rushing to North America to plug in all at the same time. And these facilities, frankly, just didn't have the parts. If you go and look at the transformer market, it's one of the most interesting parts about Bitcoin mining. I think from the last two years, the transformer market, so these huge pieces for conducting electricity into facilities and making electricity usable from the power generating station down to the individual minor. The price of these things went astronomical because of Bitcoin miners because Bitcoin miners needed these electrical parts so badly, but they were so hard to come by that the price these things went to the moon and what we saw is that hundreds of thousands of asics likely about 250,000 a 6 in total were stranded sitting in boxes in Texas and probably about a million all over the globe just weighing to be plugged in. And now we've seen that untangle a little bit, right? So we're past July 2022 and we're about 9 months removed from that. There's been time for these facilities to get a 6 plugged in. Bitcoin price has responded a little bit. And now we can actually have a little bit of solid revenue or in the green a bit. And we're seeing this flood of hash rate come on. The bummer part about it is we're still in the bear market,

"Talked a lot about this around the table, the folks here that I decided this time out. I think you all were in the same boat. I want the wealthy to continue to be able to do well, but look, I'm tired of trickle down economics. I want to build some kind of here in the bottom of the middle out when that happens. Poor folks have a shot, middle class does well on the wealthy navigator who are doing just fine. So we also want to talk about the extreme Republican economic plans. Again, folks, this is one of the reasons I wake up every morning and thank the lord. I am not a Democrat. They believe in fairytales. It's kayfabe. It's a professional wrestling. You pretend you're wrestling and they pretend they believe you. There is no such thing as trickle down economic. Do you understand it is a near centuries old left wing talking point to make you believe that rich people are stealing money from you somehow? Oh, no, no, Dan. It's an actual theory. It is? Listen to a man much smarter than me. Economic legend, Thomas Sowell, explain exactly this. Check this out. President Obama in December of last year, the market will take care of everything they tell us jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everyone else. In April of this year, during the Bush years, the wealthy got wealthier, but prosperity sure didn't trickle down. In July, this past summer for Barack Obama. We've tried it their way. It didn't work. We were told that prosperity would start at the top and then trickle down. Where does this where does this phrase trickle down come from? Oh, I don't know. It was his fall back as the first Roosevelt administration. There is a nonexistent theory that is constantly being attacked. Some years ago in my newspaper column, I challenged anybody to cite any economist outside of an insane asylum who had ever made that argument. Nobody came up with a single person. So when Barack Obama says in this past July, quote, we were told that prosperity would tell them. Nobody told him. Nobody knew The Economist has ever held that no politician has ever said it. I don't know of anybody who's ever said it. In fact, when I put this out there, I wouldn't want to a nationalist in the column. Various people wrote me and said, well, if so and so said that so and so said it. But find me the person who said it, I don't want to hear how a set of Visa find me be and show me where he said it. And that was years ago, not one example has been offered. One of my favorite clips we've used it on the show a minimum will probably ten to 15 times, probably over a hundred on my podcast. There is no such thing as trickle down economics. It is not an economic econometric theory. Is that real? It is a left wing talking point that to misdirect you from the fact that the 20% of earners in this country at the top pay 80% of the taxes. So if they think if they say trickle down, it leaves an image in your head that a bunch of rich people are eating and the scraps of the table are falling down to the struggling poor. That's what it's meant to get in your head. It's not real. They made it up. Next time someone asked that someone in the media should say President Biden, can you please say to me the exact econometric theory of trickle down and who invented it? Doing that anyway. All right, I'm going to take a break. A four four for the USA is the number. We'll be right back. I waited 'cause I thought, well, they're gonna get even higher in price. But then the Federal Reserve stepped in and started buying up. Investment grade bonds and non investment grade bonds that have been downgraded to non investment grade. And the value of my puts fell, I sold at a profit, but not as big of a profit as I would have liked. So I learned at least my lesson was, when things hit an extreme, just take profits and don't get greedy. Now, I thought I learned that lesson, but I've also owned the simplified interest rate hedge ETF. This is a position that benefits from rising interest rates. I bought it last September 2021, but I sold it this past July because it looked like U.S. recession risk was increasing and that inflation has peaked as commodity prices came down. So I took profits a man about 34% on that holding. But now we've seen interest rates go up again. Three and a half percent for the ten year treasury bond. And PFI X has gained 19% since I sold. That feels bad. But I didn't know. I don't like to be wrong. One of the things that helps me accept that is to realize that this was a small mistake. The profit give up that I gave up since I sold PFI X back in July. Is only .2% of my net worth. It's a rounding error. So it's more of a psychological dang, I wish it would have held on longer. So how I feel is worse than the actual economic impact, which is why we need to keep our investments mistakes small. And this was a small mistake. But my real lesson is, I'm just not really good buying hedges. I don't like how volatile they are when you use option strategies or in this case an ETF that's using options. So it's very, very valuable. I just find that volatility of one position incredibly stressful.

"And then the DNA test came back. Surprise surprise. He was not 14 year old Timothy pits him. He was 23 year old Brian rini, who had just served 14 months of an 18 month stint at Belmont correctional institution for vandalism and burglary. And this was not Rene's first time pretending to be a victim of sex trafficking. He had apparently made this claim twice before. There's not a lot of information out there about why or how the police determined he was lying, but for some reason this guy really wanted people to think he'd been sex trafficked. This fucking guy. There's also not a lot of information about why greeny pretended to be Timothy Pitts him. Like he had to have known he would be caught, right? He wouldn't agree to get fingerprinted, but he had to have known they would do a DNA test, right? Like, what was the end goal here? Was he trying to go back to prison? If so, good job, bob, you did it. But in so doing, he dragged James and his family through the torture of thinking their beloved Timothy was coming home to them. Only to find out it was just some harebrained narcissist who apparently either really likes attention or being in jail. I assume the family lives every day with the hope that Timothy will eventually come home. Someone will spot him somewhere or he'll eventually break out of whatever mind fuckery, the family who has him has put him in and reach out to his father. Stranger Things have happened. In 2012, suru brierley found his family in India after 25 years apart. And just this past July, a man in China found his son who'd been kidnapped 24 years earlier when he was only two years old. It's called Jam and Lewis Volume One Baby Face has a, you know, 30 plus year. History as a producer as a songwriter and as an artist, So when you're sitting down to write a song with him, and you're going to produce it for him Like What are you thinking of, like? What do you are You trying to figure out in your head? What makes Babyface Babyface or you trying to figure out in your head? What can baby face to for us? Yeah, well, I'll give you my personal assessment of it, and that was well. We got to get this one right? It's because we're fans of baby Face says, you know, as an artist. And as a producer and man, you don't want to mess up his thing at all. So you know, we always do our study and homework to try to figure out what we need to do with the particular artist that we're working with. That baby face for me was one of those ones that Oh, we have to get this one, right? I like the idea that you're you're tossing off the Usher and Mariah tracks. Oh, yeah, sure. Of course we can do that in our sleep, But we got to get baby face, right? No, no, no. But it's just is more of a critical thing like Once again in production, we'd listen for mistakes. And to have another producer, which all of the people that you mentioned whether it be usher or Tony. They all have ears as producers for themselves. But for some reason, baby face was just one of those ones that I just felt like, Oh, I got to get this one right? "I will say that you know there may be some democrats who removed here. But i think overall the hope is that states will start sending out this money and i guess we should step back and say that the supreme court already said that the eviction moratorium was not legally allowable sound couldn't continue past july thirtieth and congress did not extend it past july thirtieth so that dynamic is already in place the it seems like the white house and even corey bush acknowledged that. There's a decent chance that somebody's going to appeal this. It's going to go back to the supreme court or somewhere and they're going to say yeah. This is really no different than the last one. The same problem exists but this would buy time and that seems to be the very goal to buy time. is there any acknowledgement that. This is kind of a cynical way to to set rules. I mean to to to set a new executive rule kind of conceding. You don't really have the full authority. I mean certainly. You're doing it to keep people in their apartments and houses but it just. It just feels like a strange set of events to me for the white house to say. We can't do this. we're doing it anyway. Yeah well today. White house press secretary. Jen psaki was asked that question about twenty different ways and the answer was well. The president wouldn't have allowed this to move forward if he didn't think there was some legal authority and the way the president put this last night when talking to reporters was that he consulted a lot of constitutional scholars and most of them thought he couldn't do it but a few thought they could whether that option will pass constitutional measure with this administration. I can't tell you. I don't know there are few scholars who say will and others who say it's not likely to but at a minimum by the time it gets. Litigated will probably give some additional time. While we're getting at forty five billion dollars out to people who are in fact behind in renton. Don't have the money so they're going to go with the answer. They like but it is clear that really all they are trying to do is buy enough time for this program to work for this money to get out for states to sort of break through the logjam and start distributing money either two renters or directly to landlords so that renters can stay in their homes. All right we're gonna take a quick break when we come back different topic global vaccine distribution. How that's going and what specifically the us is doing.

"Twenty twenty one to give local governments time to dramatically increase their aid distribution the extra time proved helpful allowing local governments to distribute over one and a half billion dollars in combined rental assistance in june more than the three previous reporting periods combined but with tens of billions left to spend the white house issued a july twenty ninth statement urging congress to use its legislative power to extend the eviction moratorium in order to give states more time to spread out funds without the added pressure of eviction proceedings kicking off. Again house speaker. Nancy pelosi working with representative waters tried to build a consensus within their party. To pass a vote on extending the moratorium on july thirtieth but the bid failed to garner support among some moderates democrats. Really we only learned about this yesterday. Pelosi told reporters afterward just one day before the moratorium expired not really enough time to socialize it within our caucus pelosi then kicked the crisis back to the white house. Action is needed and it must come from the administration. Pelosi and other democratic leaders wrote in a sunday statement pointing to a recent supreme court opinion. Chief justice john roberts and justice spread kavanagh sided with the three liberal justices and kavanagh wrote a one paragraph concurring opinion that proved crucial to the white house's position in my view clear and specific congressional authorization via new legislation would be necessary for the cdc to extend the moratorium past july thirty first. Cavanaugh wrote representative pernilla giant paul chair of the congressional progressive caucus says she thinks the white house drew to firm of a conclusion from one line in a concurring opinion on vixen moratorium. The cdc was going to step in despite reservations about its authority. Not doing anything would be a dangerous threat to public health. Cdc director rachelle wolinsky said in a statement announcing the new moratorium it is imperative that public health authorities act quickly. To mitigate such an increase of evictions. "To our past July, 4th broadcast or caught the story as a jeopardy answer. No, that the declaration of Independence was actually passed on July 2nd, not the fourth. The fourth bring the day that they fully edited version came out. John Adams thought we'd always be celebrating the second of July with fireworks. That did not work out. But there may be a reason for people to celebrate the second of July. Anyway. If in this case it would have been a year later, 17 77 It has to do with the state of Vermont and slavery. And here to explain that is Mary Elliott, museum specialist at the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture. Hi, Mary. Yeah, it's nice to speak with you, Mary. A lot of what we talk about when we talk about independence is it wasn't independence for everybody, and I was just talking about what happened in Vermont and I should fill people in on that. It was July 2nd 17 77 that always independent Vermont became the first state to ban slavery, not just bandit guarantee voting rights for African Americans, which was pretty much unknown at the time. But like everything else when we talk about this, it wasn't everything It seemed to be. You could not hold adults as slaves in Vermont, but you could hold Children and whatever we look at back then, even when it seems like good news, it wasn't totally what it seemed to be. I'm so glad that you brought up this topic because so often we talk about Slavery and freedom, and the lenses pointed in the direction of the south in terms of discussing slavery, But when you discuss freedom and think of the north, the North isn't so much divorced from the limits of freedom for African Americans. What Vermont did on July. 2nd 17 77 is very important because it became the first colony to outright banned slavery. But again, it came with its limits. There were some, um, opportunities to manifest one's freedom. But like in many of the northern colonies, the limits, um gradual emancipation included where, Um people were guaranteed their freedom. After a certain years of apprenticeship after they reach a certain age, Um, and then you were limited in your movement, your ability to own property and many different things. So that's very important to note that this wasn't a perfect notion of freedom and that kind of ties in with July 4th celebrations of 17 76 and looking at how you have this liberated nation that was still maintaining slavery. It's always this paradox that's lingering. Um And what does freedom really mean? How is freedom really defined at that moment? And what does it mean? By the time we get to 18, 65 and quite interesting, early June 19th 18 65 a new meaning of freedom or more defined version of freedom that's applicable to all. Yeah, let's Let's talk about that. Because people hear about Juneteenth, they you know they don't They're not exactly sure what happened. June 19th 18 65. Has to do with Major general Gordon Granger. Who and general order number three and tell us about that because some people think it's just you know, like a made up holiday or something, but it's an important date in American history. Thank you. For that question. Juneteenth is a very important date, and it's become even more significant in the past few years, even though people have been Commemorating celebrating Juneteenth for generations as early as when the event occurred in June, 19 1918 65, And that date marks the occasion that union Army General Gordon Granger entered into Galveston, Texas, accompanied by Union Army troops, including members of the U. S colored troops, and the announcement was made that the enslaved African Americans in Texas were now free. Keeping in mind that freedom had already come to them as early as January. 1st 18 63 with the passage of the Emancipation Proclamation, So we talk about this. Meaning of freedom and an imperfect freedom. Well, the fact is the Emancipation Proclamation only apply to African Americans who were enslaved in rebelling states. Those states that has seceded from the union and within those seceding documents. They mentioned slavery several times. And so it took a war the civil war to enforce that Emancipation Proclamation. Texas being the farthest rebelling state farthest West and They continued that fight in Texas until, of course, um, the union army entered into the state and was able to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. But here's what's important. The general order that General Granger issued on June 19th. He had the authority to write this general order and it states and pay attention to the words because it really does speak to this imperfect freedom. The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a proclamation from the executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection here to four existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor Friedman are advised to remain quietly in their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect it Military post and they will not be supported in idleness, either there or elsewhere. So that moment of June 19th, which is referred to today as Juneteenth. Is important because freedom came to those in the rebelling states, but not to always lay people. It took the 13th amendment to do that. But what's also important to note is in this passage the limits of that freedom. Now you're expected to serve as a hired labor and the person who enslaved U is considered an employer. Can you imagine the limits of bargaining power for that hired labor? That's what we see what happens when you see those sharecropper contracts having to be defined and enforced through the Freedman's bureau. And the notion that you have to remain quietly in your present home, which is a slave cabin. And the fact that Your idleness. The assumption that you will be idle is not supported. This is a general order that was issued by a union army general. It gives you a sense of what society how society viewed black people, whether in the north or the South, whether in the Confederacy or the Union Army. Yeah, it was a very limited freedom, you know, and even going back to what we started talking about, which was the Vermont thing where safe slavery is over. Very similar to what happened with the statement from Granger on June 19th 18 65 is that first of all, a lot of wealthy landowners in New England kept slaves anyhow, because that money you could pretty much buy off anybody, but a lot of them would just say okay. There are actually servants now. Oh, can they quit? No. Uh, can you shoot them if they run off? Yes. I mean, it wasn't It wasn't really freedom. It was. It was like kind of just changing the job title. Exactly. And the other thing you have to keep in mind is There were, um There were people in the north in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and other areas main who were engaged in shipbuilding and ongoing involvement in the slave trade, even after the international slave trade was made illegal. So there was still an investment in the commodification of African Americans. There was still an investment in bondage. And there was still this sense of African Americans as being inferior. And.
