No fatalities reported in Iowa as officials plan to demolish partially collapsed building
"And Iowa apartment building that collapsed on Sunday will be demolished. Officials in Davenport say the demolition of what was once the Davenport hotel will begin Tuesday morning. The collapse injured at least one person and displaced countless residents and business owners. It's not known why the building collapsed, but Davenport fired chief Michael Carlson says investigators are searching for a cause. There's been normal rental complaints, but there has been some complaints to the structure. We issued notice and orders to have those repaired. The building owner hired their own engineering firm to direct them and the repairs needed to be made. Residents have not been allowed back inside to remove their belongings due to the building's unstable condition. I'm Mike Hempen.

Michael Loadenthal: Asking for Money to Censor Conservatives
"And this meeting they're talking about how exactly if I could just sum it up how they can censor their political opponents conservatives They don't even talk about it and coded language The strangest thing about this is that this group is working with the DHS Now the grant they got is after this When I'm about to play the audio which is shocking it's from 2021 I have two bits from it right They submitted this audio video to the GHS to get a grant which according to this Fox News report came in 2022 and the school didn't notice inclusion of the seminar and its grant application So I want to be clear because I don't want to explain that in a little bit of confusing manner in my apologies This is such an important story I don't want to lose it This is a bunch of people on tape talking about how to censor conservatives sending the tape to the government to get money and the government then giving them a grant to censor conservatives Got it Easy explained that way Here it is Here's cut one It's about 20 seconds Here's Michael lodon doll Suggesting that they're trying to censor them conservatives that this may be illegal you should send us some money and that he's spoken to the FBI about it This is crazy Check this out To go back to your question about what can liberals do And I feel like it's a trait and simple answer but you can give money That's always really appreciated We have legal defense funds because we get trouble A lot of the things we're doing are illegal What I'm saying what I'm telling you a lot of it involves breaking the law And this is what the FBI will say I've had many conversations with the FBI about this So nuts This is so insane That this guy was like this is amazing I saw this on heritage's Twitter feed this morning And I'm having again it's a quote my friend Neil from the Secret Service How do you get your arms around that It's not that he said it It's that this was apparently in a submission to DHS

The Basics of Key Management
"We haven't done a Basics episode in a while. I've had a couple of people ask me some questions that made me realize something that I was a little... that we haven't come back to with the Basics is just kind of the really simple, really practical, what the hell do I do with my keys? So we went into an entire episode on what our keys are and hardware, wallets, and all of that good stuff. And I will tell you straight off the bat, you need a hardware wallet if you have any meaningful savings. If you're just tinkering, that's fine. Don't give yourself a homework assignment and, you know, have to invest all this money and stuff into it if you're just playing around. But it's very easy to get sucked in and it's very easy for playing around to become a meaningful amount of money in Bitcoin. In fact, a good example actually was I was playing around with the Bitkit wallet, which is one that I'm a big fan of and I'm really looking forward to its future. And Synonym and John Carvalho and their team over there have built a really amazing and really intuitive product. But I was just testing a bunch of stuff out. So when I moved some Bitcoin to it, it was always intended to just be kind of a throwaway wallet. And I actually at some point took a screenshot of my backup seed and put it in the Discord chat with everyone in Synonym because we were we were trying to work something out. I can't remember what it was, some weird little quirk with the interface or whether it was showing addresses or something like that. I don't remember. It wasn't that big of a deal. But because I was thinking of the wallet so cheaply as just like throwaway, I did that. But what's funny is I, you know, was testing all out. So I added a bunch of contacts and, you know, I started making messages with people and, you know, all these things. And I started trying out a bunch of different widgets. And it got to the point where I'd kind of forgotten that I had done that. And then I just moved a little bit of Bitcoin to move a little bit more Bitcoin to it and eventually ended up with like eight hundred dollars worth of Bitcoin on it. And my seed is sitting in a screenshot in a Discord room that I don't know if 30 people or I have no idea how many people are in that Discord chat could see and just and so many multiple people may have just out of trying to help me put it in their wallets. So I was just totally exposed. I was just like putting cash in other people's pockets. Nobody stole it from me or anything. And I just woke up one morning and it hit me and I was like, oh my God, I'm an idiot. And I withdrew it back to my nunchuck. But just a easy little story to explain that you need to be careful with your keys and you need to have basic practice on how you're going to back things up. You need to know how you're going to be treating your wallet going

Binance Accused of Co-Mingling Customer Funds With Company Revenue
"Hello friends. Well, this morning as I was prepping the show, news broke from Reuters. Walter Bloomberg on Twitter said, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance co -mingled customer funds with company revenue in 2020 and 2021. In breach of U .S. financial rules that require customer money to be keep separate, three sources familiar with the matter told Reuters. So let's go through this, let's try to get a sense of how serious this is, let's see if there is another Sam -type situation on our hands. First, let's talk the accusation. Well, it's pretty much right there in the headline, Binance co -mingling customer funds with company revenue in 2020 and 2021, the sourcing, three sources familiar with the matter and Reuters, but let's try to get a few more details. From the Reuters piece, quote, one of the sources, a person with direct knowledge of Binance Group's finances, said the sums ran into billions of dollars and co -mingling happened almost daily in accounts the exchange held at U .S. lender Silvergate Bank. Reuters couldn't independently verify the figures or the frequency, but the news agency reviewed a bank record showing that on February 10th, 2021, Binance mixed $20 million from a corporate account with $15 million from an account that received customer money. Reuters found no evidence that Binance client monies were lost or taken. So there's a bunch that's important here. One is that Reuters couldn't verify the figures in total and that they really only had this one particular bank record showing a mixing. Now, what did Binance say? Well, in a statement to Reuters, they obviously denied this. Spokesperson Brad Jaff said, these accounts were not used to accept user deposits. They were used to facilitate user purchases. There was no co -mingling at any time because these are 100 % corporate accounts. Reuters goes on.

Left in Denial: China Planning Invasion of Taiwan
"I had a dinner lunch last week with three smart people. One of whom is a foreign national two of them are Democrats. All three of whom agreed that China wasn't going to attack Taiwan. They would prefer to absorb it by osmosis and take many years and they'll just buy the island like they did Hong Kong. And I thought to myself, boy, oh boy, the left doesn't want to deal with the reality of the chai comes. How do you get through to people like this that we could wake up any morning and see an invasion? Well, let me start by paraphrasing what Churchill said at Westminster college in Fulton, Missouri, which is to say there's no doubt that the Soviet Union does not want war. They want the fruits of war and an unimpeded expansion of their power and ideological objectives. The same is true of Xi Jinping. No doubt he would prefer to absorb Taiwan via political warfare rather than actual warfare. Yet he repeatedly is telling us that he's prepared to use force if necessary to achieve his life's ambition. And what these people need to do is pay attention to what Xi Jinping says when he talks not to the Davos crowd, but when he talks to his own party membership. And on that point, he has been crystal clear that he is prepared to use force if necessary, particularly when, as I believe, will happen, he realizes that if achieving that objective, that objective of reunification of Taiwan with the mainland, can not be achieved via political warfare because the DPP is going to win the election in Taiwan in January of 2024. So if you crane has taught us anything, it is that we should listen to dictators when they tell us in plain language what they intend to do. And if we ignore that because we graphed our own western sensibilities on to Vladimir Putin or Xi Jinping and we do mirror imaging, we do so at our own peril.

Trump's Town Hall Audience Criticized for Being Too Partisan?
"Welcome back, America David drucker is the lead political correspondent for the dispatch you see him on all of the networks. Good morning, David. How are you? Good morning, you. How's it going? Good. I am struck David by it's been a week since the town hall that Donald Trump did in New Hampshire. And I'm struck by one thing in particular, which is that the audience has come in for a lot of criticism for clapping at various points along the way. Now the Republican Party is 49% for Trump. 25% for desantis and the rest is split among Mike Pence and some other folks. So the audience didn't always clap and not all of the audience clapped at certain parts, but when have you ever seen a partisan audience criticize for being partisan before? Well, I don't know if we've seen it before hue. But I think that one of the reasons some people may be criticizing the audience is one, it was impossible to tell from watching on television whether it was a partial audience applause or a full audience applause. So you just hear the it's like watching a sitcom, right, where you hear the laugh track. And you don't actually know if everybody in the audience when they hold up that sign is laughing. But that's what it sounds like. I'd say the other thing, and look, this is open for debate here, but Trump was asked about the verdict in Asian Carroll case. And a number of things relating to January 6th and things like that. And Trump was his usual self, which is kind of half charming, half funny, half charismatic. A smattering of this or that. But some of the things that the audience was applauding and laughing at or so it appeared on television were when he was commenting on those things. So it's not like he said, hey, I'm going to cut your taxes, or hey, you know, the border's a mess. And then they clapped or laughed because, you know, set it in a particular way. It's because he was talking about E Jean Carroll in a particular way. It's because he was talking about what happened on January 6th in a particular way. And so I think for a lot of Republicans that do not like Trump for all the reasons that we don't need to repeat here because we already know the answers, they found the audience particularly disheartening because it tells them in their minds that we're still a minority in a party that Trump still leads. Yeah,

OpenAI CEO Testifies on Capitol Hill
"Gen, take us to Capitol Hill. What's up? All right, OpenAI Sam ultimate testified before the Senate judiciary community on artificial intelligence this morning a growing list of tech companies have deployed AI tools as we know. We talk about them here often like to touch UBT recently shining a light on how regulation should be applied to the industry, sounds very, very familiar. Let's take a look at what Altman had to say. We believe that the benefits of the tools we have deployed so far vastly outweigh the risks. But ensuring their safety is vital to our work and we make significant efforts to ensure that safety is built into our systems at all levels. Before we release GPT four, our latest model, we spent over 6 months conducting extensive evaluations, external red teaming, and dangerous capability testing. However, we think that regulatory intervention by governments will be critical to mitigate the risks of increasingly powerful models. All right, there we had all time calling for regulation, Zach, I'm gonna toss it off to you. What do you make of this? Feels oddly familiar to another industry. We talk about often. It is funny to see this sort of parallel conversation happening, right? With a lot of the same echoes of, okay, what's the government's role? How do we protect these people? What's going on? I think it is interesting that this industry is sort of ostensibly asking for the government to backstop it, should things go horribly wrong. It's a bit different, I think, from the crypto conversation in some respects, but also quite similar, right? There is a general wariness of these new technologies among those in Congress. They're looking to a sort of ride the wave as people become fascinated by these technologies and B, kind of implement some stuff that could put some guardrails on these technologies such that things don't go horribly astray. So it is funny that we hear both these things happening in concert. I wonder if there's ever going to be the intersection of the two conversations because I think there is a world in which crypto is the native currency of the AIs, right? And that becomes really potentially interesting world. Like mass adoption of humans in crypto, never going to happen. Too complicated. But mass adoption among AIs of crypto, I think that's really what people should be talking about.

They can not get enough employees, and that is specifically the jobs sector. I mean, assuming not the job sector. I was like, wow, that's mentality. The hospitality sector. We'll edit that out. You can make me look bad. That's good. The hospitality sector is overwhelmingly seeing unfulfilled demand. So there's so many people that want to travel. There's so many people that want to go tell us there's, of course, they themselves laid off a lot of people during the pandemic. So now they can't hire people back fast enough, which makes total sense because you kind of threw me in the street. Like, why would I come back? I found something else. I upskilled myself. "America's first news this morning with Gordon deal. Thanks for joining us Welcome into Thursday. Some of President Biden's critics from his own party think he has so far failed. To use the bully pulpit of the presidency to promote their federal voting rights legislation. They've watched as Republicans state legislatures in Georgia, Florida, Iowa, Arkansas and Montana. Have all enacted new legislation more from San Levin, voting rights reporter at the Guardian. Sam, What are you hearing? Last week, Republicans filibustered the Democrats kind of sweeping voting rights bill and this is the bill that Democrats have held up even before they took power in Congress as their major priority And it wasn't unexpected that Republicans were going to block it from passing. But what I heard after the vote last week was from several activists. Really kind of openly questioning kind of how committed the White House was behind the fight for voting rights. It's not an issue. Really, Uh, it's not a question of Whether or not President Biden takes it seriously or not, And there have been a ton of things that he's done that have indicated that he does consider it a priority. But with these activists were sent was he hasn't really brought the intensity use the bully pulpit to maximum capacity to really elevate. The importance of this issue. One activist I talked to in particular who I can. What was kind of the most vocal about this described it as President. Biden is just phoning this in. He's saying all the right things, but he's not really putting any kind of energy or kind of, um, behind what he's saying. So there's kind of the simmering frustration at Democrats. Inability to do anything at the federal level right now, is it that just perhaps Mr Biden has other priorities he wants passed like some of these spending measures, infrastructure. And and is choosing to put his energy there instead of because it wasn't like we had major problems in 2020, with elections correct Right. And I mean, of course, the president always has so much on his plate and and there's always going to be, you know, competing priorities, and you know, you look at the first six months of the Biden presidency and, you know, dealing with Covid and A major infrastructure bill and other kind of stimulus bill, But the arguments that I was hearing from the people I spoke with last week was, you know The crisis over American democracy is not something that you can just kind of put in the background while you deal with everything else. This is a foundational crisis. If we don't have democratic elections, we can't really have fair debates over things like Covid relief. Fair debate over Infrastructure, you know, coming down the line Fair debates about immigration climate That's all foundational e link to American elections. So this idea that you know American democracy cannot be a priority or that other things can take precedence over that, I think was something that they really rejected. And we're challenging the idea that there could be other priorities that were more important. Than this. We're speaking with Sam Levine, voting rights reporter at the Guardian. He's written a piece entitled He's phoning it in. Why Biden is losing the voting rights fight. I'm just taking another guess here. Is it possible? Mr Biden doesn't like the whole Heavy handed federal approach and just believes that states should be making their own laws with regards to elections. I I think that the president does back the idea of strong federal intervention. I would have a hard time believing that the White House doesn't think that the federal government should play a role in elections. It's a power that the U. S Constitution very clearly gives to Congress. The Constitution, says Kong, Uh, the Constitution says that states set the rules of election but Congress can intervene and the White House has, you know, come out very strongly and said we support before the People Act. We support a renewal of the voting Rights Act, but it's you know, they've been stymied by the filibuster in Congress. Um, is really I think what has held up getting anything through Sam Sam Levine, Voting rights reporter at the Guardian..

It's really about what you've gotta work through or someone's like that hurt me and i'm just going to distance myself from you but at the end of the day it's gonna live inside you for as long as you allow it to. And that is the thing man. Trust me when. I use the example of road rage. That's me i'm talking about. I'm talking about me. I'm talking about. You said like all the way back in your hand. Yeah everything's jumbled up like where. I feel things isn't like i'll think the tip of my finger feels like it's in my nail bed like so weird colder hot things on the tip of my pinky it feels like i'm getting a like stabby needles in my nail bed. Yeah it's it's weird but you get used to it in now. My brain adjusts. And i just think. Hey something's at the tip of my pinky like completely adjusted to it. It's still an unpleasant feeling but it it it what we're talking about. That was it this morning or was it last night we were talking about the the ghost lamb. You know Like people who lose a limb and some people have the problem where they feel like their face right. And there's new fest there will be yet 'cause your brain deal the last thing. It remembers it having that feeling. Yeah you can't do it because you can't look at it so they stick their hand in this mirror that sits right in front of them and they can put their other hand in it and it it. It looks it. Looks like it. Looks like they're lost hand and they open it up and you could see people just get re like almost immediate relief from like years of pain which is crazy. Well because it's your brain. I tell you all the time. No no no. I know your brain is literally putting everything together all these inputs of fuck in sight. Sound touch all this shit and creating a reality for you. You know what i mean. And it's just a brain saito so when you feel something even if it's unpleasant it at the base of it it's just a little center saying hey this is what's happening. Yeah like when you when you go to check my prostate uh-huh and you could just choose to accept it as a signal and not not think about it as pain. You know what. I mean you like this. You like. it's just like the service and the engine light on your car. that's all it's just a little light light. It's going to tell me something. I don't have to let you better check though you do and you can like when i could stop the car. I'll take a look all right. "Here's something you never considered before, And I want to play this for you. This is from a girl and tic tac with this that this girl was in an open relationship. We have heard about these on dirty work and war of the roses and stuff. So an open relationship. You're dating somebody, and they're like, Hey. Or maybe even married. Maybe you're married to somebody in this day. Hey, I'd like to see other people as well. I really care about you. I just I can't be limited to one person and you agree to it you can find let's have an open relationship. But you never considered about being an open relationship. And I wanted to share this with you. In case you ever considered. Being in an open relationship is what happens when you're in an open relationship and you get dumped. Listen to this being dumped from an open relationship is So much worse than being dumped from monogamous one because it's not like we need to see other people. It's I need to see specifically, not you again. That's really the truth, too, Isn't it? Anybody who says it's not you? I just need to see other people, you know? Well, we're in operation. You can see other people and then they have to eventually turn to you and say Don't you? E? I don't like you anymore. Yeah. So keep that in mind before you go. We do with those your open relationship that being dumped from over the ship is very, very difficult. Yeah. All right. Are we ready to play some wind?
