Nintendo Releases New Switch Model With 7-Inch OLED Screen

"Well who knows why they're doing this now instead of at e three as was the rumor but nintendo this morning announced an updated switch with a larger seven inch seven. Twenty p led display which can output four k. To a tv. It's going to go on sale on october. Eight for three hundred and fifty dollars quoting the verge while rumors had suggested this new switch would ship with a new invidia chip inside. It's not immediately clear if nintendo has upgraded the internal processors other than the new screen. This revised model includes an adjustable stand for tabletop play sixty four gigabytes of built in storage up from thirty two gigabytes a new dock with a weird ethernet port built in and improved audio for handheld or tabletop play. The new switch arrives nearly two years after nintendo switch light a smaller and cheaper version of the switch that you can't hook up to a tv. The switch light debuted at one hundred ninety nine dollars in september twenty nineteen then tend to switch has sold incredibly well with the console dominating. Us sales charge for nearly two years. Straight switch lifetime. Sales are at eighty four point. Five nine million units ships since its launch in two thousand seventeen a figure that is getting closer to the week consoles one hundred one point six three million lifetime sales mark and quote. So it's really a bit of a weird announcement. Aside from the timing aside from the new screen really isn't new hardware at all quoting nick stat on twitter so the new switch isn't the next gen upgrade somewhere expecting no new chipset or improved battery life also giving it the name. Nintendo switch led model is pretty telling no switch pro or switch to good thing about the new switch and why i'm buying it. Facebook trains A.I. to ‘see’ using 1 billion public Instagram photos

"Reports. It's computer vision program. Sears scored eighty four point. Two percent on image nets classification accuracy score better than existing models seer was trained on more than one billion public unlabeled images from instagram because facebook. So they used instagram but they were using public images not private images. This is a significant advance for self supervised. Learning model can learn to identify objects without being told what examples of the objects look like. So they don't show them a bunch of images of cats and say that's a cat that's a cat a cat and tried to train. At what a cat looks like sear used an algorithm called swabbed cluster groups of images with similar visual concepts. Know eventually you have to tell it. Like that cluster there. That's a cat but it learns on. Its own then. A type of convolution network called red nets captures the learning of the visual concepts and scales that to billions of parameters so that it can run in a reasonable amount of time series was trained on five hundred twelve invidia v one hundred. Best tech gift for under $50

"Kick in with that under fifty dollar category which is always fun and a product that solves a big issue. Which is what to do on our iphones when we run out of room because as you know the iphones do not have expandable storage. So if you bought one with sixty four gig or one twenty eight gig of storage and use it. You're out of luck so what to do. Well i like this product from sandisk. It's called the i expand. It's a little flash drive that connects to your phone. It goes directly into the lightning port and thus copies all the photos directly onto it on the other side of the unit is a usb plug it into your computer and import the photos there thus backing them up getting them off your phone. There's an app that goes with the i expand That you do the copying through and you can set it up for automatic. Backup on your phone if you like Thirty two gigabyte version sells for about twenty three dollars. The sixty four gigabyte sells for about thirty three dollars and the one twenty eight. Which is what. I would recommend sells for around forty six. Now of course beyond backing up photos you can use it as a traditional flash drive and again the trouble with iphone. Proprietary technology is there to date has not been a flash drive for the iphone. There are a few out there right now. I haven't tried them all. I have tried the eye expand. It comes from san disk which is owned by western digital. So it's a good reliable brand

Juan Benet, Founder & CEO of Protocol Labs Discusses Filecoin and the Vision for a Decentralized Web

"Now. Let's talk about five point. Five point is the incentive layer that kind of brings it all together. What happens another would say. I am someone who wants to retrieve some content that i know is somewhere out there so basically what would happen. Whom would i pay. Who's incentivized by. What's what are the economics going on. Here yeah so basically you're saying hey like let's walk through kind of the the life cycle of data and kind of like follow it and so on Yeah so maybe. That's our with a three. So i that think about adding capacity to the network than adding storage. So you know a client hiring hiring a minor to its data and then the third is a another client retreating. Something that exists there so the first case A minor that has sort of provide. And i walked up to the network and up pledges. Certain amount of sectors and a pledge is a commitment to the network that you're going to store a certain amount of addison capacity and you're going to produce some proofs for that capacity and you also have to of because this is a relief to consumers. You have to have something at stake here. You have to discern conditions in which the might eat. Certain kinds of you could play That includes kind of eighty positive. A falcon A minor add smart of the networks some actual capacity than gets a random seed from the network to start Some data and kind of to produce a kind seal. What is right now. An empty sectors know capacity. And this is a kind of a sector today thirty two gigabytes and then there'll be kinda size actress in the feature on in what they might or might walk in with satire by or something like that you're by terabyte into you know thirty two gigabytes segments Any now Seal all of these segments in the ceiling processing in a reputation that you actually have that capacity to provide the network and the minor you have now signed up with an hour to for the this capacity in addition to monica sets a an asking price which is how much they're still is going to go for when clients are going to hire less storage What go right now. The sort of a global ask bryce on minor mostly use cases. Miners have one price in that set. In the future winters debate we want to have a flexible and fluid ask model where minus can have many different prices for different tiers Looking to stuff But for now sort of a very simple one price for all the storage so that point kind of the minor has committed to to of this and now other parties can can view it so now along comes a user client and says okay great like i want to store this data. And so the data they can just added with. There's different kinds of tools. So that can i get a hash or they can add with a five win with the latest client which is kind of look at the one of the main pump implementation's or a bunch of other tools. That that speak these protocols like exile arrogate or slate which is consumer lincoln application. There's a bunch of different kinds of things and that was the You can now hire. You can kind of create a deal to hire minor to back this backpack this data and that deal is of a relationship between a client and it client in a single minor and a single piece of data just kind of like the unit of of agreement as a. You probably want to do this with multiple minors because he want to replicate your data with multiple different parties and and so you now sound good data over to find these miners in the network by you. This number of ways you can either a numerate them from the blockchain you can find them in a buck explorer this much tools that can show you what miners what prices they have and so you select which minor you want and you could be maybe presented but you might also take into account other important details about the minor so for example they're kind of reliability. There's a different kind of schedules features about the minor that tracked by the blockchain and can score ran others. There's no emerging score the everybody's using yet but you could put these kind of like rating style numbers from the kind of like a very simple way of selecting minors klein right now. Uses a minor and sensor data over to the source provider one source brighter receives that they the deal is completed and the minor. Alicia the deal into the network. There's a bunch of operations that happened underneath a hood in order to like actually making that make that work this in preparation of the data that has to happen in order to make it easier to prove on and so on and definitely a different sizes of the data really matter writes a few set sending a little. Bit of the nsa. A few megabytes few kilobytes megabytes. That's going to be the kind of distribution very different than if you're sending gigabytes or terabytes and so for example in the smaller scales that just a very simple protocol where right away i can just over and make the deal and whatnot user Completely hidden from you. You know the client and the mine are doing this. This software is doing this under hud users themselves. Don't have to be exposed to all of this going on but it's kind of like a like a bitcoin. Transaction in theorem transaction. There's a lot going on happening under the hood where transaction to move to a certain place get validated execute on. Not but all of this kind of hidden from from the actual users

Breaking down Apple Watch, iPad, Oculus Quest 2 and Facebook glasses

"There is a rush of new check parks that are coming out and at the center of all his madness is Scott Stein see that's editor at an amateur magician Scott. It's been a while since I've done magic been too busy. It has been a busy time. Why don't we start with apple since you've got your hands on repression on some of these out this morning let's start with the eighth Jan IPAD, which essentially it's the same device probably a little bit faster low smarter for three hundred, twenty, nine bucks. So what what is of? Note, the new Eighth Gen IPAD. Well, the one thing that's interesting is everyone's waiting seemingly for the IPAD air, which is the fancier looking wine that's coming in October, which apple does sometimes they stagger the releases and the good news is that the Eighth Gen pad is basically the twenty nineteen ipad air. The one that last year was the middle ipad had an eight twelve processor. Processor is in the eighth bad. Now, if you can keep track of all that so just means that you're getting a really good IPAD for pretty low price. Everything else about it is the same there's not much to save their. It uses the I Jin Apple ipad accessories. So uses the old pencil that sticks in the lightning port and it uses older keyboard cases not the keyboard such a little frustrating and has lightning instead of USB. But I mean. Whatever it's a very, very solid product just did my toes and using it But I think it really the fact that I was recommending the IPAD air a few months ago as the go-to one, the old one. Makes me really recommend this one now and we'll see how the IPAD air fancier one does. But that starts at six hundred dollars it's not cheap. So I think it'll be interesting to see whether that feels. Yeah. It was breakdown the IPAD air because that is you have it yet it doesn't come out until October. This is it runs on this eight, fourteen chip. I think there's some confusion about whether or not. This was actually faster than the IPAD pro is this. Pro. Ron Eight twelve Z and if you just looking from numbers, you're like well. Fourteen is better than twelve, right. So what are some context here? It's two digits higher. This sounds very promising, but then you've got a letter on the other one. It's totally confusing like apple has not really clarified it too much. Technically, it sounds like based on their their wording on this. The IPAD PRO is still the fastest ipad and the the thing about the X. chips is they had a lot more cores in graphics. So they're they're beefed up on the kind of the back end, and that could definitely make a difference The fourteen is a totally new chip like apple usually they put that on the next on and they most likely will. But now it's I on the IPAD air, and for all we know the air is GonNa come out at the same time the iphones we don't even know I mean, it's October released. So the IPAD air per-performance as a total unknown, it's supposed to be faster than the twelve, but that's not a surprise. It would not surprise me that some of the graphics video stuff might still be better on the. IPAD pro. But that one was not really a big performance bump this year over the twenty eighteen model. So Shrug so. Once price because you mentioned it's one hundred dollars more than last year's model. Does that change the calculation for that? That air like is this now is this too expensive six hundred dollars is not cheap and I think that it depends if you're thinking about getting an ipad pro and then you go oh, this one's a little less that sounds great. Sure it is but it is not cheap ipad scenes and you know really how much you GonNa Pylon to it the accessories start getting really expensive in any any of these things the more you start using them. You probably want the Pencil, which is a hundred dollars, hundred something dollars you probably WanNa keyboard case, the magic keyboard is. Basically. Three hundred dollars. You know it's it's you're pushing thousand dollars for the configuration with also with storage because the IPAD air starts with sixty four gigs of storage. Is. Borderline passable but it's not if you're going to be using this for any serious stuff and it's not upgradable. So and that's the same thing for the entry level IPAD three thousand nine is kind of a phantom price. That's a thirty two gig of storage. I would definitely say get the four, twenty, nine with one, twenty, eight. Because thirty two gigabytes you're going to run out of space like instantly. So I think that's just one of those things that gets you in the door and then suddenly you're paying more so I do think apple incrementally does price games all the time that these things I think that. It's going to seem nice for the air if you were considering getting a pro.

"For some reason and so our guest sound pretty good and i. I recommend having something like that for meetings. If you do a lot of teleconferences because your voice comes through much clearer and you sound a lot more authoritative hey tive and be surprised how much people listen to you when they can really hear you social engineering for for hangouts next question what is recalls <hes> skype. We always escape. We have tried mumble. <hes> i have used hang outs in zoom on company staff. We've tried phase. We've used facetime in an emergency and it's bad it's bad. <hes> skype tends to just work although we do special tricks yeah ah so we don't just record the call on my computer. We have a separate computer. That's dedicated to being the skype connector so that we have a little h._p. Cheapie thing that came at thirty two gigabyte s._t. for the drive and that run skype and goes straight into the audio interfaces if it was a normal herbal mike and then so when i'm editing it's just in there with logic as if somebody was in the room and then we have that track but then we often ask guests to record their voice locally which is pretty easy front amac. It's easier if you're on windows but requires a little bit more step so i let people off the hook with i and then we get that track from them and i leave it in that usually gives the best audio quality for guests. Sometimes we don't track and we have to skype audio and i have to queue it a little differently to make good but <hes> but that trigger having a separate computer means a skype isn't interfering with computers recording i. I don't think about it differently. Yeah you turn off dropbox thinking and backups when we record because that's that's one of those things you don't wanna do it so really it could according overly complicated this is now we do yeah well. It's all simple now. Soaked walked up. Let's put a couple of months but yeah he says that and then our guest guest showed up quite early physical things you have authors guessing studio which mike around. I have to do some cable runs. That's not quite support for somebody in the studio. I take i didn't have quotes. Relating lightning wasn't just him only so i think that covers that <hes> and most of that was from bailey really and it is true that patriot dollars go primarily towards bind. Mike's now we do have enough of those dollars that they pay you for. I think all of the ho- scene at this point most of it i think ya and it is paying for part of the party and <unk> own recycled well someday. You'll find out more about that unless he clips this which might not <hes>. Let's see what other people wanna gonna talk about. As far as things navel-gazing goes chris vac asked a really good question what has surprised you about show and our immediate response was that anyone has ever listened to it. That's a big one now. That was the big one. I mean to be honest that we've continued. Doing a three hundred is a long time. It is and it's a lot of work we keep telling people who thought we do six or twelve and that we find and and they were just kept doing it <hes> but then we have people like monk where actually learned oh not saying we should stop ahead. I okay so the number of people we've met and people who've become friends through through the show. I remember hearing on n._p._r. But you know, is is it surprising. On any level defined the Pentium and sell around lines getting octane memory support and the chipset. I don't think so not anymore. Not with the eighth eighth generation series octane from the beginning. If we're not aware was always a core. Product is like you had to have a core something CPU or you could rank advantage of it. They had basically disabled Pentium and celery support. Whether you know, obviously this product segmentation to that sort of thing, and it makes a lot of sense for some of those lower end systems to me like this is very natural thing, you you have a combination of spinning storage. Or actually, I think starting with the launch of the thirty two gigabyte opting. There was SSD support as well you combine like a a slower large-capacity SSD with octane and have a much faster experience with large storage footprint, and enabling it for Pentium installer. On which they apparently did somewhere near the beginning of March. We didn't find out about this Thompson to have this report up until the twenty nine and the version of their rapid storage technology driver seventeen point two had actually launched the latest version launched at the beginning of March. But in the actual release notes, it just sort of casually mentions that requires h integration systems, and it's specifically lists pentito and Solomon. Processors at as being extended like the support has been extended to them. So they didn't make any kind of press release or anything about this just showed up and for people who have some of those or budget minded Intel systems and bought a, you know, a under a Pentium just kind of nice to have that option. But it's going to be completely dependent on your motherboard manufacturer. It's going to have to be enabled by in lick the bios. So we may see relatively soon. Some bios updates come down that just extend the support because previously it had been locked in less motherboard detected. Like a core. I three or core I five processor. So. As as long as the motherboard updates come down. This is a great thing. Otherwise, it's just gonna be a next gen thing. Like ninth generation boards that come out with often support built in the lowest actually deliver the support they promised to deliver to support the thing. I think are buying not that we've heard that before. So I think everybody was kind of fascinated shocked horrified. Delighted amazed covetous there were all sorts of reactions occur pretty much all across the emotional spectrum. But if you're a gamer, especially any towards these sort of like, I'm a series east sports kind of person than I need all of the power. But I hate carrying my case around with me eleanor's area. Fifty one m was one of the big announcements at CS this year density for over at the verge. Got got hands on with it m won't that's been? I was kind of giggling because on one hand, they converted everything when you about the alienware area fifty one which is that it's it's desktop. You can upgrade the CPU. You're gonna bring the GP you to power adapters on this or as they point out to large power adapters on this one. And is you know, I like how he puts this portable and only the most literal sense meeting that you know, this is a big hefty machine. Now, you know, this is, you know, first of all it starting at nineteen fifty. And if you max it out it will easily hit the five thousand dollar range, which is kind of amazingly expensive for a computer even these days, but looking at the configurations for one thing, it's. Fun. If you go on Dell's figuration page one of the things to do is select your game to see frames per second. And at the the alien were area..

"If you go in a personalization colors, just fine the exact wording here. Whereas it it's choose your color. It says and confusingly in one thousand nine hundred one that's not what it says in previous versions. I think it's called app mode. I think is what it says, actually, which you must you probably have it there. Megan. What does that say they're under? At mode. It's. Yeah. Abbott? So they're they're getting rid of that in because that's doesn't mean anything to anybody in one thousand nine hundred one into says, choose your color, and then you actually have three choices is light dark and custom. And you would think the custom would let you you know, customize the color or something early maybe the darkness of it. And that's not that is. And it's not something that adjusts to like the time like apples like no mode night that is in windows separately, of course, because my why would it be in one place? So anything else is that all the exciting stuff? That's coming. A will. We should talk about reserve storage. Which is as we've talked about on windows weekly Paul calls at the least controversial controversial feature. When. I think he did call it back because people were outraged. So many people were like what Microsoft's going to hold back seven gigs on my machine for for reserves gorge. I don't care that they're doing it to make updates better. I don't care if it's going to help people on storage constrain machines. But we think that is going to show up in one thousand nine hundred. I wouldn't. I'm not sure if it's the least controversial. But I think what I meant by. That was what when you see a headline like Microsoft is gonna reserve another seven gigabytes of dispaced, so you can have a better experience installing the next update you can generate the headlines immediately. You know, kind of fake outrage it's going to occur because of that. So yeah, I guess if you're still using a thirty two gigabyte, you know, tablet, from eight years ago or something you might have some problems with that, obviously. But I I don't think for most people. This is a big big deal. This will trigger the same. You know, knee jerk articles, you always see around this kind of thing. Like, why one thousand twenty four megabytes is not really a gigabyte in how computer companies changed the the the way they measured this space, and how it doesn't make any sense. And how you buy a computer or phone or whatever it is. It has some amount of data or dispaced rather than what you really getting is the smaller amount, and blah, blah by goes on. But I whatever, you know, I. I think for most people honestly, given the steam that we're forced to live with which is at Microsoft is going to update the stupid thing. Whether you wanted to or not I'd rather have a go. Well, you know, frankly, and I think in this age of cloud storage and whatnot. I think more and more people are starting not to hoard everything on one computer where they need all the storage. They are sinking to the cloud and accessing the bits they need on individual computers. And so maybe spaces less. Important, you know, for some of us at least. So is there currently no storage that aside in windows for updates? That's a good question. Am I actually don't it? Does it? No. I would guess that it reserves the storage as you go to download the update and that if you don't have enough warning with that point, and then you can run the wizard type thing you can run the free up to space. But it seems like they're proactively doing this Microsoft's goal. Of course is to download this thing in the background. Not tell you anything about it. Get the installed going to do everything it can do without rebooting. And then kind of alert you at that point and say, hey, by the way, a quick reboot later, you're gonna have a new version of windows, or whatever the update is. And that sounds like a good experience. Theory. This will say, oh, we forgot one other big feature. Their updates to note pad. Hits that I don't know. But you know, they're mostly things that would appeal to coders like there's changes to the way no pet handles encoding. There's some new shortcuts available for opening new notepad windows..

"The only thing I spent money on extra money on was created. The Dr two, two terabyte. So how much ram do you have? Got thirty two gigabyte ramps. I think I graded that I got two terabyte h. e. I didn't upgrade the the processor. That's that was the big. The big money I spent was the upgraded SSD and I'm at like one point three terabyte now. So I'm going to good place with it. And then I use it as I do all the video stuff on the native drive as opposed to doing it on a scratch drive. And then when I'm done, I just archive it all off the machine like the, I don't need to keep it on there all the time. But if I had one terabyte, I'd be constantly battling and with this, I don't have to do any more. But the big point for me is like the renders are just so fast. And I, I just love everything about this computer. I've been thinking about which I not model that I get. "To pack up to thirty two gigabytes of ram and these things, and you definitely should do that. And you can get up to a four terabyte SSD in the fifteen inch and a two terabyte one in the thirteen inch model. Apple's upgraded its retina display to a true tone. One, something that we, I saw on the ipad and the iphone, and it's now come to the MAC book pro. These displays act differently depending on the environment they're in by quickly analyzing the available brightness and the color of the light. Right and adjusting displays white point and aluminum to produce a consistent white wherever you're working on your photos, your videos at cetera. These displays have five hundred nets of brightness support the p. three white collar gamut. And the third gen keyboard has been improved for quieter typing. There's also a radio on pro graphics card inside a rather large force, touch track pad at mostly gimmicky touched bar that people kind of ignore touch ID which is not a gimmick stereo speakers and thunderbolt three for charging quick data transfer driving external displays and using external GP's like that one from black magic design and all you can order the new thirteen inch and fifteen inch macbook pros right now for eighteen hundred dollars and twenty four hundred dollars respectively are respectfully.
