"Pledged that there'd be a two billion does donation to other countries. And there's that hasn't even been touched in terms of fulfilling that pledge and then at high level meetings like the un a meeting in september. These pledges are made again But we have about six doses. For every american stored up. we have That's true of many rich countries and eat just complete ignoring of let's moral and ethical failing blew a lot of people's minds to be honest to talk about boosters and then if we think about what's been going on in this country for three months the conversation has been almost exclusively about boosters and how to mix and match and it's important it's important for johnson johnson. People it's important for those over sixty five. I think those are the two groups that that data's very clear but what it does. Is it detracts from the fact that we in no way of fulfilled immoral enough quotation to world. And let's forget about moral and ethics just for a minute. It is where variants come from. It's it's they come from places in the world with high transmission so we are also not doing the right thing by public call so rate. I'm i'm not. This is a very public stance. But i i am a health co worker. I am fully vaccinated. Got box needed early. And can't bring myself to take booster unless some of this gets better as provided kate elda. You've been working on this issue of vaccine equity since the pandemic began of covert nineteen vaccine equity. Just lay out. What are the main obstacles to enabling more of the world to gain access to these vaccines and what is preventing a to this day. Pharmaceutical companies From sharing their technology with the world health organization's. Mr in a tech hub and other capable manufacturers around the world. yeah good morning Thanks very much for for talking about this important issue. I mean as as dr gandhi said very very clearly right now. We're in a global crisis. Not only of moral and ethical magnitude but really just of a rationale scientific rationale for emerging this pandemic everybody around the world of course wants to emerges from this pandemic and global leaders have not decided to take the route. That's most scientifically sound to do that. Which is equitably sharing vaccines around the world from the start of this pandemic although there were very lofty claims and platitudes about future kobe. Nineteen vaccines at that time. Vaccines of course available. But there were believers that came together the from the european union with the leadership of. Who say that future. Kobe one thousand nine. Vaccines would be considered global public goods and they would be shared echo billions around the world and we would repeat mistakes of the past you know. Unfortunately those declarations made and then high income country governments turned around and went forward in the pursuit of shoring up stocks for their domestic use at an incredible speed which saw us that In a very short period of time we had most of these theoretical vaccines at that time already spoken for by high income country governments by the wealthiest governments. So that when we did see these these axioms start coming off the law in the production line. They were already promised to the wealthy. And that's why we're in this situation right now where you know about. Sixty percent of adults in the wealthiest countries have received their first dose whereas just about three percent of people in low income countries in the poorest countries of the world have received their first dose. Now i mean the barriers to really rectify. It's very clear. I mean i. We need the vaccines that are available that are sitting in cold storage rooms that are not being used urgently redistributed to places where we need them. There is a tremendous volume of excess doses. Right now here. In the united states we calculate that by the end of twenty twenty one the us government might have about a half a billion excess doses here in the us that's including if people get their boosters we need to redistribute those doses rapidly to the places that are begging for supply. That's the acute step that needs to happen. Secondly we need to make sure that the places the region that have been left behind regions like the africa region. The middle east are given the tools to make vaccines themselves right. So there's an issue of supply and there was an issue being able to make more supply now and for Potential future pandemics as well so regions like the africa region. Governments like south africa have been asking for the technology to be able to make these vaccines themselves now. That would be the second step that needs to happen. We need the transfer of technology and the supporting elements around it. The know how the training to be transferred from the companies that have it to the places that are capable for making these axes and then thirdly we need the intellectual property barriers lifted right there are key barriers around these vaccines and we need those immediately waived so that governments and other manufacturers can pursue making these axioms themselves so that we don't perpetuate this crisis now the reason i think it's very straightforward the reason. Why the technology transfer is not happening. Despite the call from who and of course the world health organization is the global custodian of health. They know the best route. For emerging from this pandemic they have established these 'em technology transfer hubs and invited companies to share their technology with them and there are a number of of companies have had lined up are waiting in the queue to receive this technology. Of course the originator companies are not sharing willingly that technology i mean they wanna hold onto it for their own commercial interests. But it's important to remember that much of this technology was developed with public financing. Us tax payers just using one company as an example during a during received about ten billion dollars in us tax payer funding to stimulate the research and development and also in advanced purchases of those accion. So really the public has a very high stake. But of course the companies are are looking to hold onto that technology. it's very lucrative. Visor is estimated to make thirty three billion dollars in two thousand. Twenty one i think. The estimates madonna about twenty billion dollars in revenue. So they're gonna really hold onto that technology despite being the world's best interest for it to be shared i want to underscore this point of the amount of us funding that has gone into the development of these vaccines yet. They have kept their recipes Proprietary private. i want to put this question to dr monica gandhi. This sammy's were just announced. The of oscars to govern people in government service among those who won for federal employee of the year. Dr kismet corbett an amazing african american woman. Scientists and bernie graham Four there were both of which led to the development of the corona virus. Vaccine at record speed both at the vaccine research center of the former national institutes of health. They were working for the. us government. How is it possible that at this point when even if you just look at the united states completely In a selfish way if you will just protect the united states we have learned from this pandemic if you don't deal with this pandemic globally the. Us can never be protected. The idea that the us ports so much funding in the research of these vaccines and guaranteed buying of these vaccines and the case of pfizer. And yet they refuse to make available the secret sauce the recipe that would allow many pharmaceutical companies to make these vaccines around the world. Yes i mean. There's two comparisons come to mind. One is the field of pre exposure prophylaxis prep to prevent hiv infection. In this case actually there was a drug that was made by a pharmaceutical company. But that was only tip the iceberg with the us government. Funded all the clinical trials to show that know apostle femur eight emphasis being. Which is this drug. Gilead had was affected prevent hiv infection there have been many congressional urging of fuel riyadh to make this drug free available since these were essentially. All the major clinical trials were funded by the us government and a company. Very pump made more expensive. Drug marketed is ridiculed to say that we funded especially madonna. There was public funding. Put into this and it's it was literally like you just said with our taxpayer dollars. The fact that they won't show this technology with places that are just ready and willing to receive it so that they will not only make up for their own countries but make it for others is is one of the i mean i just have to say my mind is constantly blown by this degree of injustice and then the other thing that i wanna remind us is october. Twenty twenty was the time when india and south africa appealed to the world trade organization. The anticipated that there could be waves in our country. India had been spared actually up to about point. They knew that technology was coming and they said to the rotator organization. Insure pleased that we get a waiver. There's a waiver made on the intellectual property of these life saving vaccines because there is a waiver. That's possible in the setting of life saving technology in the middle of something as globally urgent as a pandemic. wto said no and then on march seven. You can literally watch the wall of new infections that happened in india and the subsequent death and suffering through the next two months that could have been completely averted by having that request honored this is so reminiscent of hiv infection of. It is a living nightmare to watch that ten years into issue when most of the problem was in sub saharan africa that we were still arguing over trips and patent weavers one thing i do want to say about pfizer. Pfizer makes a very life saving medication. Khanna's all which was essential to prevent one of the severe opportunistic infections in aids and in the late nineties. They made a billion dollars in one year. Over this lifesaving easy to make medication. This is not new. The problem is it's tragic and right now. We're getting lots of boosters into mexicans arms that they can travel and not have positive test. And there's something really incorrect going on here. So you're right about public investments and kate elder. Can you talk about one effort. That was made earlier this week. On tuesday by tech signed an agreement with rwanda and with senegal and a senegal based manufacturer to begin construction of an mri rene vaccine manufacturing facility in africa by the middle of next year. Mid twenty twenty two But this is bypassing the world health organization's marina vaccine tech transfer hub in south africa. Could you comment on that. And whether you think it's a significant and may have a significant effect in important effect on vaccinating africa which is one of the lowest has one of the lowest rates of vaccination. I think it is. It's it's an interesting development. It's probably partially in response to the tremendous pressure that has been mounted by civil society by advocates for access to covert nineteen back scenes in the face of companies really acting very reprehensibly in terms of prioritizing sales to the the wealthiest and prioritizing there to the wealthiest while the developing world goes without so it is it is a notable development. There are challenges with it however there are limitations. I mean one. What is the scope of this agreement the challenge with having it be so privately brokered With no transparency is we don't know the terms and conditions around it will that facility ultimately have the ability to share with others. Will that facility have the ability to sell beyond africa or whether there be very certain limitation aboard the doses can go this is the challenge when deals or brokered in secrecy and there's no transparency around the ultimate ultimately comes out in the contracts is just don't know the terms and the scope of it so i mean many of these what we would call voluntary technology transfer or voluntary Initiatives by industry come with significant limitations on their come with limitations geographic scope they come with limitations of what the recipient company can do with that product with that technology so although it is a notable and it's exciting to hear that a plant will be developed in rwanda and there will be partnership in west africa senegal. There's a lot of questions i mean. I think we have to go back to the point of there are globally agreed upon forum and processes that are done intergovernmentally led by developing countries. Themselves that have been established with the support of the world health organization. Which of course. Who truly knows what's what's needed in the face of this pandemic the mr rene hub led by the south african government with support from who was an end to end plan end to end plan where in included components of training staff and included components of making sure. The regulatory landscape was set for these vaccines. It had a longer term vision as well. I mean that is the process that we need to look towards. That is the process. That has the future in mind rather than something that is fully steered and and controlled by pharmaceutical companies. Because at the end of the day we know pharmaceutical corporations have have a very specific mandate. I mean their mandate is to serve their shareholders and to commercialize to the extent possible their products. So i think it's notable but we need a lot more and it's particularly notable that. Who has set up this tech. Transfer hub yet. None of these originator companies have volunteered. Come forward and actually participate. Finally dr monica gunda your thoughts on the merck story to settle share the formula for its cove nineteen drug manja appear aveer with poor countries allowing manufacturers to produce the cheap generic about merck making that announcement one thing is the maluku riverasa treatment. And at that point you've already contracted the cove in nineteen infection. Prevention is always better than treatment so vaccine availability would be better than treatment but yes. This is an example at least to the other pharmaceutical companies. But what to do. Well i wanna thank you both for being with us dr monica gandhi infectious disease physician. "But that's about to run out when we get. We think at the bipartisan policy center in the early to mid october timeframe hell of exhausted all of those measures and there won't be enough funds to pay all the government's bills in full and on time and the bipartisan policy center. Has this thing that it calls the state. Explain what the x. Date is and why that is extremely important short. The state is that day on which the government can't meet all of its obligations so each and every day the government sends out millions of payments and there for a wide variety of programs that could include social security payments on specific days of the month. Again it could be payments to civil servants who are their salaries to doctors who are providing services under medicare and medicaid on and on and on and on and it also is money to certain trust funds on a regular basis under law and on a day when it no longer has additional borrowing authority because again it's used up all its extraordinary measures and is up against its debt limit and it no longer has any cash reserves on hand and it doesn't have enough tax revenues coming in to pay the bills. Something can't something's gotta give something can't get paid. And that's the day that we call the state when the the treasury secretary will be sitting there with not enough revenues coming in the door to pay all the bills that he has to pay so october. Second is the first day of the fiscal year twenty eighteen october second is also the date when by law eighty one billion dollars has to be transferred to the military retirement trust fund. That's where i'm looking at a cash flow analysis that the bipartisan policy center has done every time we've hit a debt ceiling crisis and it's unbelievably useful and helpful and You'll be able to find it on the washington post dot com website. When i write my piece that goes along with this. But i want you to explain something to me so in this sheet for. What's supposed to happen on monday. October second 2017. The daily inflow. This is the money that the treasury department will have on hand if the debt ceiling is not raised the treasury will have thirty three billion dollars in revenues to pay sixty eight billion dollars in committed spending that is on top of the eighty one billion. That's right so the eighty one billion is already shaved off of this sixty eight correct so the government will be able to meet this eighty one billion dollar payment but it still has another sixty eight billion dollars in bills with only thirty three billion dollars in cash to actually pay them exactly. Those are projections so we don't know that those numbers will all be precisely correct. But you've laid out exactly what the scenario is going to be. So they're going to have a large trust fund payment that by law needs to be made and then on top of that they have about sixty eight billion dollars of spending. That is supposed to be going out the door and they will not have nearly enough cash coming in to pay for that now. We don't know that. October second will be the day that they run out of their other cash that they have in their in their bank account but it could be and that's what we're showing in this presentation. It could also be a couple of days later but on a lot of days the government does have deficits not necessarily as big as that one that you just cited but many days the cash coming in is not enough to pay.

"It could still be weeks before some of the hardest areas get their power restored as president biden said we are in a climate emergency. East of the mississippi is flooded. West of the mississippi is on fire. Feels like there's climate disaster all around you know. We were sorely unprepared for if you that way. You're not alone. How much critically what source of energy we use to power. Our country is central to the issue of climate change. And how we get to the president's gold net zero missions twenty-fifty falls in large part to secretary of energy jennifer granholm and she joins me now. First of all secretary you. You're a governor before you were secretary of energy and you've dealt with disasters before and i wonder what goes through your mind when you look at these images of essentially like extreme events one. In a thousand year events happening more routinely overwhelming the built infrastructure that we have to contain it. Yeah i mean well the first thing that goes through your mind of course are the people but really you think. Oh my god. How many times do we have to do this. These are not once in a generation storms. they are happening with greater and greater frequency and intensity so when we build something back we better build it back better. Which is exactly what. Joe biden wants to see happen that infrastructure bill that has passed through the senate and is now sitting in the house has thirty three and a half billion dollars for resilience for making sure that we do harden our grid for example are great infrastructure. Make sure that we have the ability to to prevent these. I mean the the fact that you see this transmission Tower go across the mississippi river. And that all of our our transmission wires in distribution wires are on wooden poles. I mean in some areas. We should be burying that those wires. We should be sharing it so that we don't end up doing this again. So the bottom line is we have to build back better and we have to make sure that we address climate change so that we don't continue to exceed this exacerbated every single year on that we're looking at those power lines. There's an interesting piece in the times. Picayune about what why katrina didn't bury power line. Why new orleans didn't barry power lines after katrina and and one of the big things that comes up. All this stuff is expensive. It's really expensive. And that's that's been the odd that has been the we saw the sixteen billion dollars spent on the levees appears to work in this case. But it is gonna take money to do this stuff. I mean that's what it all comes down to is. The investments are costly. Well that's why the president wants to partner to make this happen so that those costs are not passed on to consumers. That's why he's got thirty. Three billion dollars in i mean really in the nineteen eighty s. We spent about twelve billion dollars a year to clean up after these extreme weather events last in the past three years we've averaged between one hundred and fifty two hundred billion dollars per year in cleaning up after these events. We have got to build better. We've got to make sure that we make it resilient. But chris we have to address climate change. Which is the cause of all of this in the first place and that's the other piece that the president has put into the into the reconciliation bill. The bill back better agenda is to make sure we get one hundred percent of our electricity from clean sources by twenty thirty five and we incentivize the build out of renewable and clean energy across this country so that we can lead not just our country but helped to lead the world pressure other countries to do the same thing. Yeah the clean electricity standard which is a key part of that. Reconciliation package something. We've been very focused here on the show. I think it's one of the most important proposals that i've seen covering a congress. In in in many years. I wanna get your reaction to an op ed that a democratic member of senate joe manchin wrote in the wall street journal basically saying hey we need to pause on this whole three point five trillion dollar bill. You know it's a lot of money. There might be inflation. Everyone just cool your jets. What do you say to that. Well first of all the one of the things he says in that bill is that he wants to ensure that we're not increasing debt and deficit and joe biden agrees with him. And that's why. Joe biden has proposed a way to pay for these infrastructure pieces that need to happen to make our country solid in the long term. I mean in fact. Moody's has said that that that the infrastructure the bill better agenda not only is good for the long term but it will also help to control inflation in the long term because these are smart investments. That are not intended just to juice the economy right now but to set our country on the right path for the future. That's that clean. Electricity standard is all about. That's what building out clean. Energy is all about. That's what reducing the cost for everyday families that that are that is embedded in the reconciliation bills all about lowering the cost of prescription drugs. We don't want to see inflation increasing. We don't want to see healthcare increase. We don't see a healthcare tax missile. The issues that joe manchin is raising the cost on everyday citizens. The president totally agrees with secretary of energy jennifer. Granholm always a pleasure to get a chance to talk to you. Thank you very much. you bet. Thanks.

"The taliban had tried to disrupt the elections in sale. That was a high point. Where in retrospect if we'd negotiated with the taliban okay you guys laws now. Let's bring you into the political system that would have really turned things around. And and but again we thought we had vanquished them. So why let them back in. So i'm thinking ahead to tomorrow. When theoretically at least america draws a line under its engagement in afghanistan and yet the kind of the pathologies of america's security state seemed to be playing out once again during the course of this withdrawal the kind of the self delusion the lying the mission creep that characterized so much of our year engagement. Do you think it's possible that we will really be able to draw a line under our engagement in afghanistan starting tomorrow. Can we turn the page on september. First well it depends what you mean by engagement. I think we're going to continue to be engaged in afghanistan we just we have thousands of troops on the ground. But you know as we've seen in recent days with these airstrikes on by drones on alleged out islamic state targets. We noser military operations being conducted from the gulf from the persian gulf not from forces in afghanistan. And i you know who knows lord knows what this is gonna be up to. But we're still going to be involved in afghanistan. It's just from a distance and not as many not forces on the ground. of course we're going to be engaged diplomatically. And you know the big question. Sitting aside military operations in counterterrorism is aid to the afghans. I mean this. This country's economy is already very fragile but was propped up by the united states and other donors if we pull the plug on all that money. I mean afghanistan's gonna re you know the economy's going to collapse it's there's gonna be tons of refugees and and you know real problems with hunger we're gonna have to deal with the taliban one way or another So we're going to remain engage just going to be the question is is it going to be fundamentally different. The nature of the relationship weaken except the taliban is the winners. Or are we gonna read just going to focus on counterterrorism operations which is really what we've been doing for a long time to no great effect or what's the nature of the strategy gonna be certainly haven't heard the biden administration articulate what it expects to deal with afghanistan in the months and years to come. We all saw jake sullivan on. Tv over the weekend talking about all the leverage we have over the taliban presumably that's the economic leverage but while listening to that. I'm thinking well. If we had so much leverage how come we couldn't get them to let us get everybody we need. We want to get out. Who wants to get out out. How come we couldn't you know. Open up the roads to the airport. How come we you know. The taliban was not cooperating. On a whole host matters that has made this such a messy chaotic exit. I mean you're right. Mike mean we have some leverage. We have things that taliban wants no question. They would love for leverage to get all. Because we're not going to get everybody out right that's right. We're not gonna get everything they want. The taliban also shown though that you know they can handle isolation right i mean. They went through this in the late nineties when they were only recognized by three other countries the saudis the uae in pakistan. You know. I think they know how to play this long game right now. They feel very triumphant kicked out the superpower and this is after they already kicked out the russian so they're feeling pretty good about their ability to defend their country and and run things the way one know to me. It's just going to be fascinating to see how this relationship unfolds with the taliban between taliban and the biden administration you know how much of it is going to be over how much it's going to be covert. You know one thing that was reported on but didn't get that much attention was the cia director's visit to kabul several days ago. Where he you know were bill. Burns as director met with mullah radar that tahhan deputy head. I mean that to me is pretty striking right. This is after the taliban swept through the country already. We're saying the cia director fr face to face meeting. They wanna do business right. I thought that was yeah. I thought that was astonishing. Really interesting and you know and bill burns. Who of course wrote a memoir called channel has a long history of playing those backchannel diplomatic roles. Do you think that suggests that the biden administration is figuring out a strategy. That is going to look very different from what we've seen in the past and they Are seriously trying to engage. The taliban and trying to nudge them in a direction that will that will be consistent with our interests and the interests as we have afghanistan. Yeah i would think that the cia director's going in there and that they almost publicly knowledged this right. I mean it wasn't a public announcement but they didn't dispute these reports that leaked out pretty quickly nights. I don't think it was leaking from the taliban. I think it was from our side. The fact that burns was. But you know you have the evacuation. They're dealing with although i think. The taliban really communicates directly with us military about that but with burns going in the way i read that maybe a wrong is that you know the cia wants to know. Can we work with the taliban against islamic state against isis k. As they call it you know. The taliban has been fighting the isis factions in afghanistan for a while The united states is is worried about that group More so than the taliban in terms of threats to the us targets in the united states or elsewhere in the world. So i mean you know there's a common interest right there and with the us having to remove military forces from afghanistan you. Why wouldn't they be talking with the taliban about other ways to carry out cantered terrorism operations against islamic state to just get in so backup for a second here and go to the beginning of the story and how we got into this twenty year project obviously september eleventh was was the catalyst but as you lay out in the book and is very clear in all of these papers when the bush administration went in. They were very vocal about how this was not going. We were not going to be engaging. In nation-building and rumsfeld himself was scornful of the idea of nation building and you know he was emphasizing the light footprint and yet over time you know it just kind of seem to have evolved and i don't doesn't seem like there was a certain point where switch was flipped and the bush administration or future administration said. Okay now we're going. A nation built just seems like it just kind of happened but before you answer that you know. One kind of eye-popping statistic that you have in the in. The book is the amount of money we ultimately spent there. And you say that. The united states is allocated more than one hundred and thirty three billion dollars to build up afghanistan more than it spent adjusted for inflation to revive the whole of western europe with the marshall plan after world war. Two right was in good context. Doesn't it and i think we got a lot more out the marshall and.

That's it so it's gonna be private industry or may be county building. I eventually the government's gonna say you know. You can't come into this building unless you can prove you've been vaccinated so it's going to happen but what happens to the people who worked for the government in any way shape performed county level city levels federal levels. Say no i am. I for no uncertain terms. Am i getting this vaccine. They're gonna fire you. Wow that's what it sounds like. How well it's going to be like that hospital in houston right in. Don't get the vaccine. Don't come back to work. They sued the nurses sued. They lost they lost their jobs. And that's now which that turns out to be a really important case because it set a precedent that was a private employer doing this true and you know what this also opens the door to. You're very young. Children being forced to be vaccinated before they go to school. Oh sure yeah. oh absolutely. Isn't that interesting in the timing too. Because we had to pfizer stories yesterday memory had they. They came out like pry like this time yesterday morning. They said our projections. We need to come out with a new projection for profits in two thousand twenty one. Because it's their way higher thirty three billion dollar projection in prophets for pfizer. Which makes sense because they were one of the developers of the vaccine right but then they came out with a statement late yesterday and it was amazing. Said are expected booster shot will perform very well against the delta variant. Well isn't that so now. We have to get two shots. You're going to get three shots. What a business plan. "Life. That i've had right in good point there because you know if you're businesses going down during this or if it's going up like a rocket during this is still it's it isn't like thank you got a pivot you're going down but if you're going up you're scaling really fast faster than you ever imagined you would. There's a lot that goes into actually making that work. It's not just like business as usual lake right because demand is there has to be met. You are absolutely right and right now. That are just sailing towards the moon at a whole different set of challenges. That's where some people things happened in in where you just have to manage things differently. So one of the things. I wanna make sure people understand about you And this coaching. Internationals coaches are very common Title now that a lot of people attached to themselves. So there's a lot of coaches it's a it's a one. Probably one of the fastest growing child tank strike right right. But i want to So i wanna. I want wanna distinguish you from a lot of those others and so so. Your organization is coaching Leaders that have combined thirty. Three billion dollars in annual revenue have had over a billion dollars in value of exits having sold businesses. And they're growing year over year on the profit side at a very significant clip much higher than than others. So it's not so. I wanted to just put some facts or that. I found on the website. Of course. But i are around the type of coaching. That you're doing versus. Would i see a lot of people who say their coaches. Maybe are in a different ballpark. I guess so. Having started their cynthia what who are the people that you are typically working with if there is a typical and what are the challenges that they come to you with that you then you know sort of massage through this one third one third one third kind of approach to get them where they either wanna be or think they should be or or what. What's looking for commonalities. And then i want to just get some free consulting on how you attack attack. Their help them achieve their goal. I would say what it's all. We always start with the ceo. You know it will help us see power. We will help head of sales but it always starts zeal. They are i on january and so that's where it starts an most of the ceo who come to us. They look at some of the things. You saw a website in all if a company's been with us two three years they're evidence up by sixty percent. They're rowing two times. The rate of of national average. So we're all about growth and so most people see that a wall. I know how to do what i've been doing. And we've been going along on white fine. But i want to grow. I wanna go big our founder. Mark moses's Boca of about thinking big and that sort of our model is so i would say the one thing that is common for all of us is how we help our clients. Think bigger. and because that's what we that's what we asked. The party is thinking bigger and then not just thinking but then how we break down. We have a whole process Whole system where you will set an annual goal break down to quarterly goals and we work with the chiens not just the person and keep reaching those goals on an ongoing basis and revising and moving at holding people accountable than putting dates and times. And so there's a real processed in order to boxer once the process we use and the other is the people element so valuate. the people understand thirteen has gaps. And so we was. If you get those two things right you succeed. If if you can get a good process in place in understand what's chirping the flywheel in your business or what can or what adjustments you need to make so most people come to us with a growth mindset if they're happy with what is not usually our client and if there and sometimes the the second could be when somebody really does not know what to do next. They've gotten to a point in there. Like i dunno pandemic in a and i really need to relook at and so that's the other thing we often help do is really look at. What are your core competencies. If you're not going to do this what else could you do. How do you pivot this business. And it's been interesting. We've had some clients who have absolutely pivoted in are more successful. They were before the pet damage. So it's That's my answer. Okay and do the and guess. I'm thinking about engagement so i come to you and i wanna ask growth mindset. I wanna get bigger. But i'm maybe on not focused right. Maybe that's 'cause. I'm an entrepreneur. Let's say i'm the i'm always going one hundred different directions had why maybe that's the part of the therapist part where you have to sort of you know say. Is this what you really want. Because if this is what you really want we need to focus so that you stay engaged in so everybody on the team stays engaged. I don't. I'm just what you described as is is not unusual. A lot of entrepreneurs lot entrepreneurs have a you know a dvd or quick to jump from one to the next. But that's where sort of the planning process zone. You're not gonna change. You're going to jump from one to the next but if your team has a plan that they're executing on and you've agreed that those priorities and then if anybody including you wants to put something else in in kind of say okay. Release that more important than getting this thing. Done the first thing that you agreed to and sometimes it is. Sometimes you have to shift and other times. It helps you. I think we can help. People stay away from shiny objects bit or at least remind themselves to that. Is that shining object. Better than what we're working on right now right okay. Good point good point and that's right and that's that's why they come because they are. You know the if you want to accomplish something you gotta have a system and a process for it and you have to follow it right. I mean the first thing we do is we get a profile on the person. And we don't use myers briggs we use just but that helps us understand who we're dealing with right away so that and i'm always happy to share my profile of anybody because it helps it in any relationship to understand each other and so if we both know that shiny object is the issue at something you wanna work on. I mean you're not gonna change to not get distracted but you could change to not react every single time and think about it before you react so know. We look for incremental shane. I i think people do change. But not mike at my earlier degrees. I had one in psychology You fundamentally are who we are and you couldn't understand yourself better learn how to make life work better for yourself but dramatic change from a cat to a dog is not going to happen. You probably really good at this now. But i'm wondering when you first started and you you did acknowledge you know. You always want to find other people that you know you can work with. That can do things better than you. That kind of thing. But i'm wondering how you you know when you first getting started as a coach. Sort of resisted the temptation.

"Austin and her chief of staff. This makes three active city council members. Who were under indictment heather. What is the latest well. Curiosity has not resigned. He has no plans to resign. She was participating in a finance committee meeting today. She charged with taking kickbacks essentially from a developer in her ward including in those kickbacks where granite countertops of fancy sump pump and some nice bathroom tiles. So you you can't script this but it is another black eye and i've yet to get a response from the mayor about whether she will ask. Carrie austin to step down. As chairman of the council's contracting oversight equity committee when edberg was charged with a crime back in twenty nineteen he was forced by former mayor rahm emanuel to step down as chairman of the finance committee will see what the mayor does in this case so former president. Donald trump's suing facebook twitter and google claiming that he's been wrongfully censored. Take a look. We're demanding an end to the shadow. Banning a stop to the silencing and a stop to the blacklisting banishing and canceling that. You know so well. Our case will prove this. Censorship is unlawful. It's unconstitutional and it's completely un-american. Peres does he have a case. I don't think there's any legal expert that says there's a case in fact if a court where somehow to rule that facebook or twitter couldn't do what they did in enacting that bennett would probably violate those companies first amendment rights to institute their own rules of engagement and then have folks abide by them. So it's important to look at this. You know the former president has a history throughout his career of counter-suing and suing a fundraising pitch. Went out. right. After this lawsuit was filed. So it's more of a public relations strategy marketing strategy to get some more money into the coffers to stoke the base to keep his name in the news on a hot button issue as he as he debates of what he does in twenty twenty four and amanda this distraction when you love to see him. Okay sorry i was just gonna say. Wouldn't you love to see him. Give a deposition in. Discovery might reveal a whole lot of things. So it's like be careful what you wish for. Well i mean you. Know to. That in amanda. Is this a distraction from the trump organizations actual legal woes. You know his cfo. Alan weisselberg was indicted last week. We might be hearing from the president but a man. Does this distraction. It might be a distraction. I again spoke with a lot of supporters of president trump Just today here in crystal lake. Who very much believe that. The election was stolen from him. They were carrying trump. twenty twenty four flags so among his supporters. I'm not sure that anybody will be particularly swayed. Is leaving the trump train because of the lawsuit that is facing him on the business side of things. So if it's meant to be a distraction. I'm not sure how well that would work again. Maybe more of a fundraising ploy particularly as he does face these issues on the business side of things and legal ramifications. That could hurt him financially. So heather Chicago's pension debt. Rose by over a billion dollars last year now. Chicago's almost thirty. Three billion dollars to its four employee pension funds. What does this mean well. It means that chicago is going to have to dig very deep for the next couple of years. This is all happening. Because the city is now having to comply with a state law that sort of puts these pension pans on scheduled to get to a better funded level to ensure that they can pay pensions to employees as they retire. The hard truth is that this was expected. I spoke with finance officials. Who said yep. This was what we expected. This is what it's going to cost but it's one of the reasons that the city is facing such a steep of financial or bad financial situation. Which is really only been alleviated a little bit by the the federal aid coming from the government for the covert nineteen pandemic Mayor lightfoot said replete repeatedly that she wants changes to how pensions on our paid But that's not likely to happen anytime soon. So the city is just going to have to meet these bills and that could potentially mean more tax hikes and potential reduction in services Zero-sum game the raise revenue cut spending or borrow money and the city has really borrowed as much money as it can at this point. So it's options are limited okay. We'll have to leave it there. Thanks in the spotlight. Politics team met masterson. Heather sharon amanda finicky and parachutes up next. How the chicago park district is celebrating. Twenty years of natural areas. But i look at the weather. There's something magical happening in chicago this summer. You can find fairy houses in the city's natural areas and just maybe spot a theory or to wtt w news reporter. Patty wetlands joins us now with more patty. This one looks like fun. So what are very houses. And why are they being seen across the city this summer. Well they're these magical little wooden structures or magical mythical creatures and you will find them in twenty of the chicago park district's natural areas celebrating the twentieth anniversary of these areas. Which for people who might not be familiar with them. These pockets of savannah are prairie or wetlands typically within a more traditional park. or sometimes they're the entire space but it's these special places in chicago in. They're being celebrated with these special ferry houses. So why fairy houses. Why go with very houses and who built them actual fairies. Obviously the ferries needed a little help from their human counterparts but You know nature itself. Has this magical quality for a lot of people so the ferry houses are kind of designed to evoke that sense of wonder in children and adults and they were built by a variety of people in some instances by.

The most recent week and now we saw a thirty three billion dollars. Spike the fed's balance sheet is now just under seven point six trillion. This is the highest. It's been. I have a feeling that one of the reasons that we saw a reversal in the bond market yesterday is potentially the federal reserve intervene. Maybe the fed panicked and bought a truckload of treasuries on thursday morning. And we'll find out when we get these numbers next week. What happened to the fed's balance sheet. But i have a feeling it really ballooned now. I don't know where the money supply numbers are because the fed stopped reporting the weekly to number. So we don't get him anymore now. I think they're going to be reporting the maybe less frequently. I don't know maybe. The conspiracy theorist in me would say that one of the reasons. I don't want to report. These numbers is because they don't want people to see how big they are right. If you're trying to commit robbery right you want to do it. You know in the cover of darkness. You don't want to shine a light on it. So maybe there's a reason that they don't want us to see these numbers as often but you know they don't seem to care. I mentioned on my last podcast. Oh in the studio tonight me your host. The reverend canton kick ass and joining me. It's and nobody. We've been talking about this article from health line tom. That is highlighting non consensual internal exams of medical patients. Who have not consented to such. These are apparently according to this article routinely done to patients who are put under anesthesia even when the procedure is not necessary for these particular patients. A tell you what. I'd bet a lot of time taking people to hospitals taking my wife to hospitals when she was dying of cancer. And if if you're going to a hospital or someone you love is going to a hospital. I there should be at least two people there. I mean you and the patient else and the patient right. And i guarantee if someone goes to the hospital with me and i go out for a snickers bar and come back. And they're doing that. There's going to be a bloody asked. Dr on the floor wishing that he hadn't done what he just did. I guarantee yeah and there should be this. This practice is absurd to say the least. Yeah and the problem. Apparently is widespread two thirds of medical students in oklahoma intended. Even say that forget go on another context entered the building and yeah i see where it was. That was the sentence. The problem said they did just shouldn't have been fair to say The article continues. Two thirds of medical students. In oklahoma reported being asked asked to perform pelvic exams on patients who hadn't consented ninety percent of medical students surveyed in philadelphia performed the same exam on an s patients. Who thank you like your tongue now without knowing. How many had actually consented so. These students had no idea whether these patients consented it or not and their and their instructor like yeah go ahead. do it do the thing. Well if you're human. You're supposed to ask these things. Well this reminds me of verse in consented to this reminds me of the milgram experiments right. Yeah like they got a guy in a lab coat and they. Oh the love coach said. Oh she'll do it. he's an authority. I'll just go ahead and do it. Yeah the article continues recently. Several medical students around the country reported to the associated. Press that they too had conducted pelvic exams on unconscious patients and didn't know if any of them had actually given consent many in the medical community scoff at the idea that this is unethical or could be considered assault since this has been standard practice for years now so if you do it all the time it's okay you just because it's routine does not make it ethical and there's also a communist in your eye all the time you still like it right all. Its routine eight in the patients. I yeah standard operating procedure. There's also a common view in hospitals that if a patient already consented to surgery and since surgery in and of itself is invasive then an additional consent for a pelvic exam isn't needed right. I because you know five consented to you. Yeah no cleaning my ear out. Obviously that's all of my orifice except it's kind of not if you take your car to the mechanic and they go. You need a new alternator replaced and and you go. Okay go ahead. Replace the alternator Does that mean that they're also going to replace your muffler. Yeah yeah we broke your brakes taking them apart. You're gonna have to replace some of the well. Why did you take my breaks or bart. I never told you to do that. Consenting to a medically necessary surgery however it doesn't mean a patient consent to a stranger entering the room afterward and inserting their fingers into the vagina. It's true i i mean. I can't believe that not obvious. I'm sorry i still your thought you did. But your words there.

What's Behind Tesla's Crazy Stock Surge?
"Is business wars daily. It's a new week. Everyone hope you're celebrating getting a happy Monday whether you had to see it. A video of Elon. Musk dancing sporting an awkward grin as he shut his sport coat and threw it off stage in a nod to strip tease a suburban suburban dad. Kind of not I mean it was January seventh and musk not exactly known for his stage. Presence was celebrating the first deliveries of the model. Three Tesla built in the company's but he's new Shanghai factory he also announced plans to manufacture Tesla's new. SUV The Model Y in Shanghai to and he predicted that the model y I will be Tesla's biggest seller more popular than all of its other models combined according to CNN the elated. Musk later tweeted his dancing video and called it. You're not safe for work. Yep Musk's dance moves weren't safe from the mockery that greeted the video but musk. Maybe the one laughing all the way to the bank. He's he's come out ahead way ahead from the troubles. Tesla was facing just several months ago in late. May it stock Saturday at dismal. One hundred eighty five dollars a share. Its lowest I in several years but just last week. The automaker's stock surged to new heights. Following record deliveries and Tesla's January thirtieth announcement of its first annual. will profit. Yes you heard me correctly. Last Tuesday shears reached a record high close of nine hundred seventy dollars that prompted celebrations and and warnings. This bubble has to burst right and bursted did the very next day following more than seventeen percent. That decline happened not because of anything. Tesla sled did exactly. But because of the corona virus like other companies Tesla has shuttered its gleaming new Shanghai factory as the epidemic ravages China in spreads across the globe on Wednesday Tesla announced a delay in auto deliveries because of the closure. CNBC reported that plus concerns that Tesla's fundamental value couldn't support it sky high stock prices. That was what was behind the precipitous. Drop and questions about the companies essential value. Do remain a CNN pointed out Tesla sold almost three hundred seventy thousand cars last year and has a market value north of one hundred billion dollars. Now you compare that to Ford which sold five and a half million IAN vehicles last year but whose value is only about thirty three billion dollars only a third of tiny tesla. Well it's easy to see that sometimes math plays little role Roland market pricing. So what does exactly well. Lots of things. Wall Street has been favoring sexy consumer brands. There's that I ever annual annual prophet after a rocky year but if you discount the gyrations of shortsellers and day traders and get serious for a minute one overriding reason could be that. It's hard to overstate the importance of Tesla's lead in electric vehicles and it singular focus on E. VS in other words. It's the shape of things to come or at least many investors are betting on that. Yes it's GonNa take a while for electric vehicles to catch up to the rest of the market electric car. Sales are still tiny in comparison to gas powered engines and even hybrids on the face of it. Tesla's one hundred billion dollar plus market value. Seems absurd if you only look at the number of vehicles so last year but but late last week there were three other telling signs that may help explain why Tesla's share price has gone crazy of late there were disastrous results from Ford GM and Exxon Mobil Noble Ford lost one point seven billion dollars in the fourth quarter and GM's operating profit plunged by almost one hundred percent and Exxon Mobil wants. It's the world's most valuable

"Hello and welcome to newshour from the bbc world service i'm james menendez coming up diplomacy trump style the us president needs the nato summit saying he's happy that fellow members of agreed to spend billions more on defense this was a fantastic two days this was really fantastic it all came together at the end and yes it was a little tough we'll find out what tough means and whether this old alliances stronger or weaker now we'll see today president trump has just arrived in the uk on his first official visit the british government's be sitting at its detailed plans for brexit plus a gripping and terrifying account of the thai cave rescued from one of the divers involved a turnaround after about fifty meters when i got soak and then we both agreed this is madness we're gonna kill ourselves there's no need for more people to dine escapes all of that more after the knees this is the bbc news hello i'm jonathan is art president trump has said he's now very happy with his nato allies for committing an extra thirty three billion dollars to military spending he told a news conference in brussels that nato was much stronger earlier mr trump shamed germany spain and belgium for falling well short of the collective pledge to spend two percent of gdp on defense our defense and diplomatic correspondent jonathan marcus he is like t to extract some significant additional defense expenditure but how quickly people reach this two percent target is unclear the likelihood of people going much beyond that i think is a fantasy so many more questions than answers and still a fundamental uncertainty about how mr trump really regards nato is it merely a set of transactional relationships or is it the fundamental bedrock of a transatlantic alliance that up to now at least it's been seen a securing as much america's defenses as it does the europeans russia has hit back at president trump's complaints about new gas pipeline being constructed between russia and germany the kremlin spokesman said mr trump was trying to force european customers to buy more expensive american energy and in the past few minutes president trump has landed in the uk for a two day working visit during his trip he will meet queen elizabeth and the prime minister britain's new brexit secretary dominic robb has outlined in parliament detailed plans for future trading relations with the european union after the uk leaves the block in march robertson reports after two years of indecision theresa may governments have finally opted for what might be called a softer brexit which envisages continuing close economic ties between britain and the eu of the heart of the plan is the idea of a free trade area and a common rulebook so we'll disruption to business and the need for a border between northern ireland and the irish republic but it's already meeting opposition from both brexit enthusiasts in the governing conservative party and from brussels so the government's may at last have a plan but the real drama over brexit is likely only just beginning members of pakistan's former governing party the pm l n say hundreds of their members have been detained by police in the city of lahore before general election later this month they say it's an attempt to prevent them holding rallies in support of their leader the former prime minister now i sharif more from joanna jolly pm l n members say police have raided the homes of party councillors in the whole and detained activists here in charge of organizing street protests they say the crackdown will make it harder for them to stage rallies when their leader now as chief returns to the city on friday mr sharieff who is currently in london was sentenced in absentia by a pakistani corruption court to ten years in prison he says he will return to challenge the sentencing which he described as politically motivated you're listening to the world news from the bbc this.
