"Into the summer when the team was already done a lot of their business. It's not not make more sense to you. I think when you feel you can strike you. Strike anna carolina. Hurricanes have struck anything else before we wrap up this quickly. Edition of thirty still thirty-one thoughts the podcast soon to be thirty to thirty two. You know i'm really curious to see where all this cycle stuff is going to go up you know. I was very surprised to hear the news that he was switching agents. Everything that happened in the last couple of months from michael side he knew everything about it like he approved it. You know. he's the one who really wants to do this surgery and he was the one who wanted to release the statements when they were released. I don't think that his previous agents. Peter fish and he donatelli did anything differently than he wanted but from what i understand he just decided that maybe a new approach was necessary. And you know we'll see where it goes but like i said like those previous agents. They fought thought everything that that michael wanted. they did. yeah and they fought for him. Sometimes maybe you just need the velvet glove instead of the hammer. The one entity that i think of through all of this now more so than ever before as always in my head positioned it as tea. Michael versus team buffalo sabres. The one group. That i wonder about here is an. I don't even know if they can do anything about it. But i can't help thinking that if i am the nhl. I'm looking at this cycle. Saga has dragged itself out through the season into the off season It flares up every now and then there's been no resolution. There's been no surgery and now there's not going to be a jack michael to start the season if i'm the nhl. I'm just waltz. It's funny you mentioned that jeff. Because i was going to add that i found out i was working on this and now we might as well do it because you brought this up. There was a meeting in buffalo. I might have my days off. Because i was up at the cottage. I think it was wednesday. This eighteenth there was a big meeting in buffalo league was there. The players association was there. I go was there. His reps were there. That was still when he was with peter fish and the sabres were obviously there. I'm not sure if the sabers were. The doctors were there in person or via zoom. I don't know that one hundred percent. But i think everybody put their cards on the table and i think the players association wanted to hear it everything firsthand and i think the league wanted to hear everything firsthand and basically what i heard was there was no resolution. Everybody laid everything out. And i think they're still the sabers position hadn't changed as a matter of fact like i heard that everybody was still pretty dug in and we're still waiting to see where this is going to go. And maybe that's one of the reasons to that eichel made the change. Maybe like a steady needed the try. The velvet glove instead of the hammer will see by one of the reasons. I hadn't reported yet until you just dragged it out of me like under the form of torture is that i was trying to find out what the resolution was and as far as i understand there hasn't been a resolution like nothing changed. The sabers stayed in their position. Aigle stayed in his position and the league in the players association supported the player and the league's supported the organization in the cba. So i don't know that anything changed and it's been twelve days since that meeting almost eleven days. That's a whopper. We'll see where this one goes and we'll see where the offer sheet goes. And i suspect that before it changes to thirty two thoughts considering the nature of this. Guess berry kenya me. Offer sheet and the nature of. What's happening with jack eichel elliot. I don't want to say that. We're back to in fulltime podcasts yet. Because we're not. But i don't think this is the last thirty one thoughts the podcast that you'll hear before it turns into thirty two. Thanks again for doing this under adverse conditions and it's great.

"Everyone is looking into it and speculating about it. And obviously it's more than likely something about his situation with the buffalo sabres right now and all of the situation. Is he still on the team right. And and you know we have really mentioned it much on On our show but You know he wants to get this really experimental surgery that you know. Most athletes have never done before and nhl player has never done that before. I know that for sure. And it was really interesting. Because thirty-one thoughts the podcast Elliott friedman and jeff merrick had a physician. Come on in. He was the one that actually suggested the surgery to eichel's Camaraderie camp whatever and he came onto the podcast there and kind of explained what the how the jury with look what it would do. What the recovery time would be and it seemed legit. It seemed like it would work in that. It would be fine however the buffalo sabres don't want that. They want him to go the traditional way. Just kind of rehab and to end. Try to come back and all of that was before you know the relationship between him and the sabers were were ever at this point. There's no return in my opinion on this Any thoughts about that chris. This is weird. This doesn't have in hockey. It's so weird and something so public like this right. Yeah exactly so. I mean what i really want to know is there's been talk from dallas stars fans. Maybe not the most educated wins. But there's been talk from them about trying to trade for him. And i want to know your thoughts on that. I don't know jack goal. it's jack i go right. I mean who who would not want jack. I go on their team. Bagley every i mean all thirty two teams in the thirty one other the other thirty one teams in the nhl would died. How somebody like jack guy on the team on their team but the problem is that his is just so much of a question right now in. That's a big reason why he hasn't been traded yet. I think there are teams in the nhl that would meet. The demands of the buffalo sabres would be required to get jack. Eichel off the sabers but negro on that list. It's very very very like out there saying i. I don't think it's likely is a possible. Maybe is it likely. No i would give it like five percent chance literally. That's that's all. I would give no higher not even five point one. I'd give it a zero percent chance just because we haven't heard any talks that dallas has been interested either but yeah it for them to get eichel. the only decent price is. Did you see joshes hypothetical trade right. Yeah so josh sanders. Posted a hypothetical trade on the jason robertson fan club in hockey talk facebook group and I don't have it in front of me. Kristie you have it in front of me. But i remember what it was it was for. It was row. Pay hance rightly hints. It was hanley harley harley a first round pick in next year in third round pick the year after and so anton khudobin anton khudobin for one player. Who was injured right it. Will we know about anything about that..

"Is what the most trouble you've ever been in an katie gives this whole story about how she had to go to the bathroom in time square. Nineteen ninety seven new year's eve either view times square absolutely. I'm so glad that the answer is no in that it's an emphatic. No and that you would even have to ask josh. I hated asking it. But i just did it just in case you were both but yeah. I didn't that. I was going to have to hide my disdain out there in the listenership. I'm sorry if now you're feeling uncomfortable because you've gone but like why would you do that. You're you're probably uncomfortable when you were there. Why would raising cold. It's packed with people. People wear diapers because there is nowhere to go to the bathroom. I feel like that you did. It is punishment enough. We don't have to punish the further you know at this point the cold for twelve hours in the most annoying place and it is hard for me to think of a place that i would want to be less. Not even just on new year's eve but generally general correct about to go back to work in times square adjacent land. Not exactly what. I mean specifically is like times square on north korea. Just look across all of the day's in time in locations like that vortex of december thirty first thought times square in new jersey worst place in the world on the worst of the year. Yeah i have. I have worked in times square on new year's eve. Not not like in that crowd of people but like on forty fourth street and seventh avenue and you have to like show proof that you have to go to work to get through the barricades and all sorts of subway exits are closed off so that they can start the flow of traffic. The whole place becomes a nightmare two weeks in advance as they are setting these barricades and you can't even just like cross the street to get to the subway fifty on fiftieth street like blocks and blocks away anyway. Yeah this is the podcast. With three new yorkers what sell you. That's what's going on folks so katie's like they threw me into fatty wagon. I'm kind of like you got lucky kid like that's a good new year's eve you're like they're getting. Yeah they're escort. Yeah you gotta ride. Yeah good for you. That subway is going to.

"And i think most of our friend group was aware but as he's going to mention in the interview and i don't want to give too much of it up you know. He explained the whole process of having to go through it. And and you know he. And of course with luke reaching out to him and bain taking the steps that he did in order. Now it's public and people will ask sometimes like oh. Why does this needs to be news. Well it needs to be news to make it comfortable for the next person to be able to announce it so then the next person can feel comfortable being them true selves so it was. It was great to have him on. He's worked with hockey canada. He's a friend of mine and we just we think it's important subject and we didn't reach a loop because he's probably been doing a lot of media and you know we want to probably let them like rest a little bit after this. Although he did go on. Thirty one. Thoughts with elliot freeman and jeff merrick to with the best in the business. They had an interview with them so go he did. Excuse me go. Check it out there. And i really hope that you guys enjoy being his story as well. Yeah and for luke if people are out there actually saying why does this need to be news you you have a p for brain because i am. I don't know this kid but like so happy for him and forget the sports aspect of it. It's more. I feel so bad for any person who is gay and isn't able to live their true life and be honest with their friends and their family because that must be such torture for people so any single time you hear a story about somebody coming out. I do think it's worth reading and hearing about it. 'cause you you're you're literally. You're literally witnessing somebody become more free in themselves. And their life and i can't imagine how amazing that feels for that kid and it took a lot of balls. I wish it didn't take balls but it did. And hopefully in the future because a guys like him because guys like bain within the sports world hockey world. Whatever you're talking about it will become easier for people who are gay to come out and announced. Who the tru truly are so. It's very happy to see that news. And before we throw it over to bain..

"First of all. Thank you so much for joining us today. On thirty one thoughts the podcast and as we've talked about before on this show everybody listening everybody involved in this program Everybody goes through journeys of self discovery throughout their life. And i just wanna start this by congratulating you on your journey of self-discovery that brought you to this moment to day. How do you feel now. I feel amazing. You know. I kind of started this process back in june of last year when i started telling most of my family and friends and just being able to finally come to terms with things being okay with who i am and living my true self. You know this past year has been crazy with Cuts it's been amazing just to kind of go through this journey and be myself. Who's the first person you told it was my sister. And if you'd ask me that you know three or four years ago that would i probably would have laughed in your face because me and my sister were not close at all. And when we came back from calgary me and my brother when covert and are seizing canceled just created this really cool bond and those first four five six weeks when we couldn't really do anything we were kind of inseparable always doing stuff together hanging out in the house playing board games stuff like that. She was the first person i told and styles probably around in april and we had this really cool bond that we gathered over kovin. She's always been there for me when i've had questions or when i haven't been feeling as myself Then i should and it's been really cool to create that bond with her and see how much support she has for me. One of the reasons. I want to ask about this. Luke is your nineteen now and there's going to be a lot of teenagers who are going to hear this and they're gonna say. Luke did the journey that i'm going to need to do. And they're going to be very thankful you did this. And they're gonna feel emboldened that you did this so they're gonna kinda wanna know how you did it so they can understand how they might be able to do it for sure for me. I mean it wasn't lake. I woke up one day. And i was like. Oh i'm gonna tell my mom or i'm gonna tell my dad or i'm going to tell you know all my best friends. It came to me at a time. Where i just felt really comfortable in that moment and i was like okay. You might not get this feeling again for a while and you'd like to tell it to them rather than having someone else find out like from someone else. So when i talked to alanna. I was sitting in my room. I was watching some sort of movie just kind of thinking about you know what i might say. Or what am i tell her. And i'm just gonna. I'm just said screw it so i went upstairs to her room is. She was the first person i told so. It was very emotional. You know. I started breaking down in tears soda. She and it just came to that moment where it's like something something inside of me. It was like okay. You need to tell her. And then that's kind of how it was for everyone that i that i told you. Know with my best friends It was just a random day. We're playing spike ball. And then we came back to my house. We all kind of gathered around my kitchen counter. And again i just had this feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm gonna tell these guys. And you know i'm gonna see what the reaction is if it's good if it's not. I'm still going to be happy that i told them. So that's how it came for me. It might not be the same way for other individuals. But that's how it me. What was the reaction like. I mean i have not had. Someone have a bad reaction. It seems like nowadays. Almost everyone knows someone who's gone through the coming out. Process has a family member or a friend who's gale and it was a very emotional topic for mother. My first few times i had spoken about it with my mom with my sister with my dad especially my best friends because those are the people that like if they don't accept it and they don't support you. It's almost like you wish you hadn't told them just because they're so important to you in your life. But i mean all the reactions. I've gotten have been so supportive of the people i've told have been emotional as well. You know. it's just one part of me. I'm still their best friend. Doesn't change the way they look at me. You know to some of my teammates. I've told you know it doesn't change the way they look at me in the locker room or how we hang out outside of hockey. I'm still luke. I'm still a hockey player. I'm still their best friend. So all the reactions. I have had an amazing. I'm fifty two years old. Luke and i grew up playing hockey in toronto in an era. Where how should i say. This hockey wouldn't allow someone to come out. It was near impossible just knowing what they would go through and it destroyed lives. It destroyed people at destroyed relationships. How is hockey. Been for you and did this sport. Keep you from being you for what you now understand is probably too long a time. I don't think so. I mean obviously with hockey. The locker room is something that people talk about when this stuff comes up with the the banter in some of the actions and stuff like that. Personally i didn't. I mean i didn't really feel the people that did it. You know it was almost like those. Were the people that i wasn't going to tell you know early on because i wasn't comfortable with because i could see in other actions i didn't want them to. I didn't want them to know from me. Just 'cause just didn't feel comfortable or didn't feel right with me because of how they're acting or what they were saying. So i mean. I had only told two of my teammates. Gone calgary and those guys. Were you know the people that i had trusted obviously with the biggest secret of my life and i had known them previously for four three years outside of playing with calories so i had known those guys long time hockey. I don't think so to your point of it was the process of me being comfortable with it. i mean. even. If i didn't play hockey i still think it would've taken me this long as well and everyone has a different journey. Everyone has a different path. And how how young. And how when when they wanna come out if anything. Maybe hockey is actually made me. Wanna do it sooner Just because i have seen you know. I've seen so much stuff on the internet and going through this whole process. I've done a lot of research and you know. I think this is something that hockey needs and definitely needs more of a needs. No more awareness towards this topic in you know. I wanted to bring attention to it. And so i wouldn't say that it was rushed in the sense that this is why i'm doing it but it was obviously a reason for me to come out for sure. So when you went back to calgary this year for the short season your brother..

"Guy sciences yuki. Let's not forget that and that's gonna be a big number by. It's gonna be interesting here. Here's a wild suggestion. Then elliott. because he's gone the offer sheet route before anthony bavaria. Lose in tough yes. He is lose in tough. Yes he is if you're mark version and you have all this money and you just went to the stanley cup final. I you really went after all because he thought he might get them. Offer sheeting lula morello. That's another one but this is a week. We saw suitor in. Parisi bought outright. So god only knows what can happen now. Speaking of suitor my first thought would keep got bought. It was exit. yandle inter suitor. Here's what i'm hearing about ryan suter. I think that's going to slow down until after the expansion draft and then i think teams when they have a bit more clarity about their own situations and souder has some more clarity about their situations that picks up again a thought on the panthers buying yo yandle. They wanted to protect forsling. Anybody's who's lee surprised here and i do think there'll be plenty of interest in yandle i. I think he'll be in a situation where he's very comfortable to go to power. Plays important very popular teammate. Uh-huh and i think you'll pick based on fit as opposed to anything else. So i don't think he's going to have trouble finding a place at all. Could you see boston there. That's been rumored for a thousand years. It seems like right jeff and if yandle wants to do that now. He's got the opportunity to do that. And i know a lot of people are always wondering about taylor hall. There was a time when i thought there was potential deal in the drawer here. I'm less convinced that's the case right. Now we'll see you know. I think there's a lot of teams poking around on hall. We'll see what ends up happening with him. One another thing. We should mention for the florida. Panthers congratulations anthony declare last time. Does it all by himself. No agents required This year a three year deal nine million dollars so an avia. Three million for anthony declare. Who's really found himself. A home with the florida panthers. Okay let's wrap it there Don't forget by the way new. Podcast coming out on monday taken us. "So it's to be a mill. I guess. Now steve every coach i don. I just don't think. I don't think there's a union or anything or a minimum wage right and i'm not that worried about it because it's not my money and if i was a fan you can't worry about it either because it doesn't affect his salary cap so fill your boots. It's your life. But i didn't think you needed to spend one point seven million a year for dominique. Ducharme right la. Allow me to read steve. Speaking of that the speaking of signing guys pierre mcguire deal with ottawa. We all know that by now so my brother tex me. He says sends hired pierre mcguire. Of course of course. Marcus smart did he goes my friend. Said they hired the announcer guy that keeps getting hit in the head with pox. Oh he's more than that. That's on their heads anyway. Step aside stevie for a second good for him good for ducharme. Npr npr mcguire. We mentioned in our last episode about the fact that over his broadcast career there've been gm openings and he was mentioned for those gm openings. And i think probably in his heart of hearts the job he would want most would be the general manager of the montreal canadians and maybe the most ironic thing in the world. maybe if If that job were to come open like a day after you accepted sort of an assistant. "Sorry i just did a strawberry of that giant jug of water. Thirty one thoughts. The podcast. Not a car cast. It is a tampa cast stanley cup. Champion cast presented by. Gmc sierra four. Jeff americans deauville elliott in tampa. Where you've just seen the tampa bay lightning when the second stanley cup in a row and in the process andrei vasilevskiy collected the con- smyth trophy. You're there packed rink. Lots of fun celebrations all of it. We will get to the nikita kucherov press conference afterwards. And we'll talk about what's next for both of these two teams but give us a sense of what it was like to soak that in on wednesday night eliot. I didn't know what to expect. Really jeff like for example. I haven't been at an arena with a full crowd. I think since the all star game last year in saint louis now and you know the whole thing is so surreal. I went to my first game last week in montreal. And then we come down here and the world is just a really different place now. I'll tell you i saw there. Were a couple of lightning jerseys. I saw tonight the number twenty four. So i thought they were ryan callahan jerseys. But they said descent is twenty four on them teeth when you go to florida. You're in a completely different world right now. And you'll those of us who work in covering the playoffs where the only people in our hotel wearing mass. Somebody told me expect people to be rude to you. They weren't rude to me. A couple of them looked at me funny but nobody said a word about it you know. They respected my space and i respected. There's and it's funny like one person actually said to me the asked me. Are you vaccinated. I said yes. I'm double taxed and they looked at me kind of funny and they said you know like to a lot of us down here in florida. If you wear a mask you're not vaccinated. So they actually thought. I wasn't vaccinated. It just shows you how you know different. You are from place to place. But i told my wife i was going into a complete almost totally full ring. Technically it's not a sellout and she's like it's so hard to fathom but you know the place was wild these fans. They were riled up before the game. Sometimes you go into buildings a game three going into montreal jeff. That building was confident and tampa took it away. From the quick game foregoing into montreal. Those canadians fans were nervous and they found a way to win tonight. This was a confident crowd. They thought they were going to win. And even though price kinda stole the first period. I thought maybe the tampa fans would be nervous that they weren't gonna win. They never wavered. You could tell it was a confident crowd and they thought they were going to win and to be honest. I you know the best team won. They were deep forward and d. Everybody contributed they had the con- smyth trophy winner in that. This was the best team in the league this year. And they are deserving winners very deserving winners yeah that first period carry price was outstanding Shots thirteen to four for tampa. It was Again the tilted rink the you know the the kick off the week specter from the tampa bay lightning. I'll tell you what you talk about depth. I don't know that we can talk enough about. Ross colton tonight. We're going to what all the stars. And all that. But i just loved that. It was a depth player on tampa that scores the stanley cup winning goal. Beautiful play mcdonagh to savard savard. Who makes maybe the best pass he's ever made in his career right on the stick of ross cold and To make a one nothing. His fourth goal.

"The vancouver draft obviously That was one of the more that was one of the more interesting draft for rumors at that. Draft was the first time. And by the way i should say i think kucherov is hurt. I think he has a rib injury. That is a problem. Courtesy of scott mayfield. Yes that vancouver draft was interesting That was one of the more. Rumor filled the drafts and there are all kinds of things. We thought we're going to happen. Tyson berry was gonna sign with the vancouver canucks. That was the first time i had caught wind. Maybe you knew it. Before that we heard about neil for lucci each and man kucherov name was everywhere like all over the place with wild stories of humongous trade. Now obviously none of them came to fruition. But normally you don't hear that about you know elite level old superstar players. I remember remember flying back from the vancouver insane while man. Kucherov name was everywhere. Like every conversation had what's tampa gonna do here. They really gonna move kucherov. Like jeez i never thought they were going to. I never never even though. I mean you heard the name out. There mean. that was huge on the floor. It's certainly on on the on the first night. What do you think happens next game. Do you have a good on this one. Like the first ten minutes. You suspect to is all going to be montreal. I don't know. I mean there's such a machine the lightning i feel that chris johnston should be tweeting. The tampa bay as a jogger. Not and maybe that will get montreal. Badging okay we have a lot to get to today so that is game three a commanding three. Nothing series lead. We all wait now monday. And game for a lot of news and notes plenty to get to a big signing in minnesota that's making headlines duncan keith continues to make headlines as well and la in nashville Consummated trade all. This is for a bigger conversation. Because i do want to have eventually one of these days. The conversation of like you look at the numbers for example. Are you voting for the who you consider to be the best defenseman of the nhl in the nhl or the defenseman had the best season because not everybody votes the same way. Like essentially what what. I'm what i'm getting at here. Elliott is i think there needs to be a redefinition of the trophies. I think they are too incredibly vague. Which maybe is a good thing. It leads to discussion and conversation. Like this. and people hating us for our picks and people hitting us for picks It's true it does lead to conversation. It's that Alfred hitchcock used to call them. I think it was frozen dinner moments. He would deliberately put something in a movie. That would feel an appear wrong or was like a rip in the script where something didn't make sense but it made you think about the movie until you got home and opened up your freezer to have a frozen dinner when you got back and force you to think about the movie all the way home. Maybe this is like an alfred hitchcock frozen dinner moment. I don't know all the other tile is podcast gonna be so this is a podcast. Where jeff gordon frank. Zappa and alfred hitchcock. The title of this podcast is everybody over. A hundred is gonna love this. And then as orson welles once opined Okay everybody you're speaking to my head brontosaurus and not told me. Yeah but let's get the flintstone references in here. All rights taken us out from academic northwest territories a legendary indigenous folk rocker. Willie thrasher now during an interview with the georgia straight thrasher recalls. His approach to music changed quote a remember one night when the cordell has banned at the time. Were playing a show. We were sitting down during our fifteen minute break and then an old man came out of nowhere. I didn't know who he was or where he came from but he sat down at our table and then he asked us. Why don't you write some innuendo music. Native music none of us knew about in you at music at the time because we are raised up through residential schools. But this old man. That i'd never met before started giving us encouragement to write music that way so i got very curious at then. I started writing stories and music about our culture from his nineteen eighty-one album spirit child which was reissued in twenty fifteen. There's a thirty one thoughts gas mersal on the big screen right next to every ordinance. I just have to look at myself fantastic anyway anyway. So after game to. This show is going on the road to montreal. Our technical and production crew is staying in toronto and then the games montreal will all be on the road but for the games in tampa some of the studio. Crew's coming back to toronto while the rest of us stay on the road so these next two games teams together of the season and so we just wanted to go on his group of game tonight. Those nights are always fun. Those nights are always special. It's a tight knit group when you're together for that long you know like hundred percent. They're the ones that save us through the ones that make us look good night in and night out five to one is the final tampa draws first blood No reason for panic. You for the montreal canadians or is there. A reason for panic. If you're the montreal. Canadian iran came up with the stat that the last three years. The team that lost game one came back to win the series washington. Saint louis and tampa. The one thing. That really stood out to me was gallagher's is the emotional leader of the heartbeat. The true heartbeat of the canadians and they went after him. It was very clear that they targeted gallagher and they said he has driven his three previous opponents crazy. And instead of waiting for that to happen to us we're going to take it right to him and they did you thankfully that play at the end of the game. He was able to stay in. It looked like it could have been really ugly. There for a second and gallagher to his credit didn't back down and at times gave as good as guide. But i saw a tampa team that said part of montreal's identity is kind of gallagher and the nasty way they play. We're going to remind everybody were pretty nasty too. They sent that good. Goodrow gourd coleman line after him and to me that was. That was a big tone setter in the series. They took one of montreal's most important players and they said we're going to target you tonight. You know the interesting thing about that is normally. When a team goes out of their way to go at gallagher they get distracted and they chase them all over the ice but that didn't happen with tampa. A couple of things happened here. One they did go. After gallagher both physically and verbally and craig simpson showed that they were relentless on gallagher. Normally that brings a team to distraction. And that's just what gallagher wants but that didn't happen with tampa. They also kept the big boys away from philip. The no dino wasn't able to do. Philip the know things on monday night but you talked about this last podcast conversation about it. There is a focus to tampa. We saw it last year in the bubble. And we're seeing it now. As much as they went after gallagher they weren't distracted by gallagher. And we're going to get the here in a second. But he didn't distract them but tampa every chance they got got in a good lick on them well. It was almost like if you're going to be in this game you're going to be in this game on our terms. Not your terms are terms. And the one time he got knocked over by headmen. That's montreal's done to every opponent. All year are all playoffs. If you get close to price knock you on your ass. This time it was it was tampa doing it was. I really thought game. One was a clinic from the lightning. They shut them down. They didn't give them too much and you know they went. They went nasty at the. We've talked about how tampa like. There's a lot of teams in the league. That think they get treated choirboys but really they're a bunch of pricks of anyone didn't realize that we saw on on game. What deke kucherov referenced. Him off the off the top two goal performance. He looked profoundly different from game. Seven against challenders on friday. Two game one against montreal on monday mean. I'm trying to figure out how he was feeling on friday. Was there an injury did they. Send him to lured to heal up him bathe in holy watering comeback for monday. Like from friday to monday. He's a different player. Remember i said the other day. I wondered if maybe he doesn't play game one. Maybe when he said the other day that he wasn't hurt on media date is typical crusty. Self maybe he actually willed himself to help. I don't remember which x. Men is the healer but maybe he just that ex-man visited him and yield is rib but i mean he was. He was great and that power play was humming. Again i get taxed during the game from scotland one of our producers telling me what to say and he said you should count. How many times at all five lightning players on the powerplay touch the puck and it's hugely because of what does in directing it the If they were firing the puck around no doubt about it and listen the One of the stories going into this was going to be mightier tampa's power play or montreal's penalty kill But a wondering your thoughts on hundred vassilev ski there were. There were moments in the second period where he stops weber on a breakaway on a bad route a pinch. There is a stop on anderson right after that. And then there's a stop on gallagher on a partial breakway your thoughts on what we saw from vassal laskey because the other story was going to be vassilev ski versus price. We've seen some games this playoff. Where he hasn't been at his best and tonight he was really sharp. It was gonna be borderline impossible to be. I would like to see the team in the nhl. That would have tab. But that was an excellent game we should mention about this game with nikita kucherov. Should've mentioned this couple of seconds ago. I might have even been as i shift. I think it was. It might have been koutros first. Shift the way. He went nick suzuki physically. As if saying if you had any doubt that i was healthy or if you have any doubt about how good. I'm feeling this should let you know i'm fine. Now i think i think less than gallagher i think they wanted to let suzuki. No like suzuki has a reputation that when he takes a bomb he gets better doesn't shy away from it. He's engaged. But i think tampa really wanted to test that i think to. They really missed armenia tonight. Montreal did leave it. I know i'll tell you this. I was really happy to see jake evans back and playing because of what he went through. I just felt that they really missed. Armenia tough night for the kids as well knicks. Xueqian coal caufield. That isn't one. That's a sort of burn the tape night for those guys but That's a tough one like most of them by broadcasts will burn the amen. You and me both brother all right. We'll kick it off Elliott settling in for first patio cast. Welcome to thirty one thoughts podcast presented by the gmc. Sierra eighteen nice pushing comes from. Emily kaplan of espn. Go ahead. emily. I listened. Curious would be. Nhl consider punishment to the individuals. The club's fish.

"Either side. Throw the puck around again. We're saying globetrotters but why not throw the park around globetrotter style. Like the two one goal. The brayden point goal was a thing of beauty that men colorado have power play competition. It's just spectacular. It's just looked so nice. It's just gorgeous and yo- tampa does it. Carolina was terrifying with the tip. Pass in the neutral zone sebastian. Aho for the first of two on the night including the ot winner just. You're never that far away from seeing a play that makes you go like oh man that's awesome. That's what's great about this series right now. You'll the hockey's been really good. It's been excellent. The quality of play this year in the playoffs has been really good. Are you surprised. Considering what everybody's been through yes. And no i gotta say it's a good question jeff because in the play offs. I don't pay a lot of attention to other things. I really try to be dialed in and you know we're on every night. People expect a lot from us. And you know you always try and deliver. But i was reading about the celtics today. Because you know danny ings. Step down and brad. Stevens is going to move from coach to to manager and it was a big story so i was curious about it and you know age talked about the last year and how long scene and he was running out of steam and he was beginning to think. Okay i'm gonna make a change and he's not the only one a lot of people are like this and i got the impression reading about the celtics that you know. They felt there that once their players realized they couldn't beat the nets. they were like. Okay you know time to go home now. I don't know if that's right or that's wrong. But the impression was there and i think that happened in the nhl in the regular season this year where one some teams realized. They were out. I can't wait until this is over. Just stay healthy. Don't wanna get injured. Just get this over with and so a couple of things so in the playoffs. I wondered like montreal. Toronto montreal got down three two one. Would they fold and just say it's time to go home. And no they didn't they absolutely didn't and i'm not surprised because you want to win the stanley cup. And it's what you're there for but this is such an unusual and difficult year and we are seeing examples of it apparently in the nba in the nhl. Where i think that once you get down like the carolina tonight had every reason to lose that game. They were up two nothing. They did the worst thing you can do with tamp. They gave them power. Plays the lightning score. They get that call on hamilton. They kill it off and they went into overtime and there are three guys down okay. They had every excuse to say were done here. And they and great credit to them. I think the level of competition of the players. This year has especially in the playoffs. Maybe i shouldn't be surprised by. I'm obviously impressed and very respectful. It's been a remarkable. You mentioned the plays in great and the it's going to sound weird because we're dealing with or it's just eloquently talked about it. How no one's quitting in a season where we're given everyone many passes as possible. Take care of yourself do which you need if you feel. You don't wanna do this anymore. Don't do this anymore either as an individual or collectively no one's licking the envelope a maleness in. Nope no one's saying were done. It's been real good. Yup all rights with that will kick it off. And now you'll hear the very well produced part of the podcast. Welcome to thirty one thoughts. The podcast presented by the gmc. Sierra a four cast is over thanks for joining us once again on thirty. One thoughts of podcasts. Always great to have you aboard We will get to the toronto maple leafs here in a couple of moments and their collapse against montreal canadian's and what happened and.

"I rather have a fully rested rope a every other game than making play every game. Honestly with the way that he's been don't have fox and dixon we won't have a full have seventy men did fox are not go tonight. I thought he played tonight. Did he know know fox and no dickinson. So get this. That's that's four centers for the stars four centers that are that are hurt right now. So that's tyler tyler. Sagan's been out this entire season He's our number one center. Our number two in a row. A hands is in and now the lineup. This entire season so far in the game and he wasn't today but we really had to have him today. and then jason dickinson. Who has are are i would say. He's our fourth line. Center is out. And he was playing a up on the first line with prevail ski in travelsky and robertson and then freaking roddick fox is now out too so it in sinners we don't have any centers daime. Ben was playing center. Tonight he has a senator like that he hasn't been forced to play center in tyler's egg. Yeah since so the in you. I'm going to rehash something. That elliott friedman said in the thirty one Thoughts podcasts the other day that he does for sports net up in canada It really sucks to lose games like this if you're a stars fan but look at the team look at the team and who's on the team right now. Look at who is out. Look at who has hurt. And the fact that the stars team is five hundred ya. Nhl five hundred. We've lost ten overtime losses but the fact that this team is nhl. Five hundred is absolutely incredible and eliot freed. Men was singing the praises of the dallas stars and he was very impressed with the fact that you know with ahl depth players now ahl top players age of depth players that are coming into this lineup and doing the best that they can against these clubs. Like these I mean this is a juggernaut team. This is a different team. The the the carolina hurricanes are juggernaut team. They're the only place where i would say..

Yeah but google tells me from the puck review dot com. That is the spin chiklis. Podcast so i think you're got Actually they don't even have a list stages literally have them at number one okay. They have hockey central at two. Oh hockey central. Oh that makes thirty one thoughts number three so yeah you close close enough good stuff it would ever since hearing that takumi m- of the The kid from the four nike calling people dog order and stuff like that. I keep talking in that same like pace. You know what i'm saying. I know as we were like setting up. You're talking like that. And i was like a what i can't stop it now. I'm addicted to talking like that. It's funny. I like watching the tiktok of people doing that blake It's like four. Nike plays minecraft for the first time. Oh yeah yeah. It's like i left. He's water dog water. Nothing on building a building would do. There's actually i've just found them on my tiktok for you page of like a hockey page doing that one like what are you doing your dog water dollar she had said in. "I was uploading the tiktok onto my website so people could walk. Bent watched them And then i sat down to write this book and It is a short book. It is very readable people who say oh. I don't do good with books You know it's done as a thought a day and so it's thirty one thoughts. They range from one paragraph to a couple few pages and it's designs that you can ingest the material as quickly or as paste as you need to and so if it's helpful to read one paragraph and then read the next one the next day you can do that if you are hungry for it and you want to sit down and take the whole book in that is also very valid way to read the book. And what's so funny. Is that part of what so magical about struggled cares that once you sort of get rid of the idea that care tasks have one proper perfect way to do them and realized that they are just functional. And you can do it any way that works for you that meets your functional. Needs all the sudden you become the most creative person ever realizing i don't have to it. Everyone always asks. How do i get my clean laundry folded and put away and then people go through struggle. Karen go why do i even need to put my clean laundry away i do. I don't it doesn't bother me one bit that it's in a basket. I just thought it was supposed to bother me that it's in a basket right and so getting out of that idea of what's supposed to look like our should look like and just doing what works for you is one of these big things about struggle care and the same thing happened to me with. This book. wanted to write a book. I have so many unfinished books saved and word documents and what happens is that have all these thoughts and jot them down. And then i get stuck. I don't know where to go. I don't know how to make them in one. You know cogent thought that runs together. And i just started putting all my thoughts down into a word document and i would look at it and i would go you know what. It's just every time. I sit down to figure out how to put this altogether into a real book of valid book. A legitimate book. That's a few hundred pages with with a bunch of footnotes that with chapters. That are spaced out. It just was paralyzing and i finally realized one day you know what i have. I have several dozen random thoughts..

Former NHL player Andrew Ference explains his new position
"And we reserve this when we have special guests, namely someone who is make sure that the business card right here working for the NHL doing social impact, growth and legislative affairs. You may know him better as the former NHL defenseman with Calgary, Pittsburgh, Boston and the Edmonton. Oilers, welcome Andrew farance to the thirty one thoughts podcast is fantastic here, and I'm surrounded by Bruins memorabilia, tastic thank you still come to all. Two thousand eleven we're going to get a lot of those Boston Bruins. But I got the business card, right, social impact, growth, and legislative affairs. And my kids look at me with like complete confusion when I say that I I only have my BA. So explain what that means. So it's a new department that the Commissioner put together with my boss, Kim Davis who came in in January, I came in March, and it really does cover everything that said there, we do everything from hockey fights cancer to divert diversity inclusion hockey's for everyone programs all the way to government work in auto on DC. A lot of the stuff that I do is built on infrastructure infrastructure support for places that are games played and not just like pro arenas, but community rinks and all the way down to street hockey. So if you knew when you were playing that you'd be doing this post career, would you have done anything differently. Where does this seem like a natural progression? A man I think this is kind of what I wanted to do. Yeah. I mean, I always had stuff going on outside the game. Some of it was directly related to hockey. I mean did a lot with any green and the environment to work. So I had counterparts at the NHL that I knew well had different connections through union work. You know, whether that was through CBS negotiations went not but made relationships with the NHL through through that. So I was had a bit of an eye on the NHL and my last two years when I was playing an Emerson I actually finished up some school through through Harvard extension through corporate sustainability innovation so put some meat on the bones around somebody environmental work. And you know, I thought the Commissioner would like that too. If I if I was trying to twist his arm about giving me a job at the league. So I always knew I was going to do something. And I I never liked travelling on buses and and putting on the miles on the road. So I was pretty sure that scouting or coaching down in the minors or junior was not not in the cards for me. So steam in the game in somewhere and other, you know, you're you're somewhat limited after that. And businesses the way to go. So you're a member of the Calgary Flames team that went to the Stanley Cup final against Tampa in two thousand and four and one of the players on that team told me that you, and I think it was he mentioned again LA in the late Steve monitor us. To have some pretty epic conversations about things that would not normally be discussed in dressing rooms are on planes. Like, he said, and I hope I have the people, right? Who would be involved in these conversations? But there would be things like the Middle East peace process or stuff like that. People.
