"Oh wow how about that. So i on the show the other day posited that i think that the other swimming strokes beyond the free style are bullshit. I don't understand why they exist. There's only one fast way to swim. Why are we doing. The other ways the backstroke. I was thinking. I was thinking about in these terms. If you were in a pool. Swimming which swimming strokes would you use. It would be a front. What they i believe they call it the front stroke and then the backstroke. So why why would you like. You never breaststroker kind of paddling around. Maybe would but if you're if you're trying to swim for speed you would do either front stroke of going forward or back. Sure we're going back. The butterfly makes no sense to me. Well this ever can. I just jump in. This is so wittingham. We were supposed to celebrate an olympic sport here and you're basically telling an olympic sport why they're wrong. That's a little doing essentially. But here's what happened. I went through the history of swimming and it turns out the the breaststroke came. I know the breastroke came i here. Here's your ears that we know there are cave. Drawings from ten thousand years ago that show the first human swimming and there was basically a means of survival to get through water and they were doing the breaststroke right so we begin with the breaststroke. There's there's there's a bloke in the eighteen sixties who swims across the english channel to get england to france using the breaststroke. It took him twenty one hours to travel the thirty four kilometers between england and france. Then we go on from there. The first olympics features the breastroke in one thousand nine hundred eight then an enterprising fella decided what if i did the motions between the breastroke over the water so that i had less resistance rather going through the water. I went over the water and this guy was accused of all kinds of chicanery because he's flying way faster than everyone else's because he's going over the water and then doing the breaststroke over and under and he's not meeting the resistance then other people start doing it but then other people kept to the traditional breaststroke and then the butterfly gets introduced own event in one thousand nine hundred. Fifty eight wait. I thought you were saying the freestyle came. I was thinking you know what what is what is what is now known as freestyle. I'm going to have to pull it up here. Because i looked i read this earlier. It's it's called something else. The actual technical term for the stroke is called something else. But we're only dealing with with with breaststroke for the moment. Okay so in the breaststroke a by the way the regular free style. It's called the front crawl turns out so in in the in the breaststroke. The guy does the butterflies butterfly because his own thing. And it's only somewhere around this period that the front stroke gets discovered and becomes its own event so actually the the front stroke slash freestyle was among the more later adapted versions of swimming competition. So i couldn't have been more wrong and it turns out that. Do the front stroke or the front crawl. Excuse me Was kind of the johnny-come-latelies swimming. Even though it has ended up becoming the fastest most efficient way to swim. Breaststroke is the worst right. We can just agree the most awkward for your elders. It's not something you do for speed right if you were trying to swim if you're trying to survive or just kind of paddle along in a pool you might do the breaststroke but if you're actually like i'm going to fly across the other end of the pool. The breaststroke is the least efficient way to travel. Which is why. I thought the idea of having a race seem stupid. That's jacoby who destroyed the brick. Yeah flying across the pool. What is the fastest rates is at the free style. Like what method. Swimming quickest it is. It's like the sprint of of yeah. You have have the fifty meter which the fifty meter freestyle is one of the best olympic events right like i like the butterfly. I mean michael phelps just like set a standard for that but just the look of that. That's my favorite. Just aesthetically to watch hicks up as the relays are so excited wrong. Cheering cheering on their teammates. Yes so i also find fascinating that be pressing. The button at the end of his of the swimming race is a legitimate part of the competition. If you don't get it right or if you don't like if you don't have a technique and a punch this thing because you're basically so at the end of the race you have to hit the wall and that signals the end of your race. There's got to be a technique in that and might be shaved seconds loss in there. That might cost your race. I'm kind of curious how that's taught. Like how how how. People decide their technique for punching the wall at the end of a race. Yeah so it's amazing how the people like the the analysts for the swimmer like he knows instantly if they got a good jump off he's like oh not a good start. It's like how do you they all have us swimmers or something that they're experts but it's just like their ability to see the status crazy last night with caleb russell law two nights ago. I suppose he chris were. You're watching that. When you jumped up rowdy gaines games like he gets so much power back leg. No one has a start. Like caleb dress while i was like look at that back dudes so fat. What i'm talking about though. I love the slow motion that they show of the get off of the start of a race which is like the slow motion wiggle of them. So good you guys really love the olympics. i've been watching every day. I'm really into it really and every morning too. I was watching yesterday. Wins tuesday morning. Sloan byles sacked out. I was watching that live and then went to work and nothing is better for me than morning sport. I love morning sport rather than putting something on tv in the morning. Let's like people talking. If i can just put the usa network on right now. I have an aunt and there's table tennis it's great. It's just great to look up while you're working and to see that. Some a sporting event is being played. I was watching archery the other day and after like five minutes of watching. I was like i feel like this. Isn't that hard. Until i learned that the thing.

"Too like hunt you down and make sure that they can't find like any specific thing that you're doing so that they can negate your claim like if you're hit by a car and you're like hey i injured my back and then like an insurance company can hire a detective in be like. We saw you walking your dog yesterday. So you're not that injured. We're not gonna pay out your claim like that's what they do. I'm exaggerating slightly. This has actually happened to me. But i've heard horror stories. Yeah a few horror stories. Have you heard. Just out of curiosity say hippo. I can't anyway so trampoline. Thirty two athletes sixteen men sixteen women. Each will perform two routines and qualifying. The first has very specific requirements. And then the second one is voluntary. And then i guess they add up the scores from those two in the top eight move on now because as we discussed the women's championship is already been decided the men's side. The people's republic of china are favored to win two medals two medals for the people's republic of china. And at first. Because i'm bad at reading. I thought that there was different. Olympic trampoline activities that they gave away medals for but then i just realized no they have to athletes so they're getting two medals because each one of them would get a medal in the one competition. So that's going on now. People's republic of china is led by reigning world champion. Gal lay which i think. That's how you pronounce his name. Who won the bronze in two thousand sixteen at rio. And then don don who won a gold lebron's anna silver in the last three olympics. All right yeah so back to the way that the sport works is the idea. You're doing tricks on a trampoline is at the idea or is there some other like you mentioned meeting required like what are the requirements to my understanding. Yeah the first one has specific requirements. And then the second one is more of a free style. I would imagine you could kind of get gygi with it as they say and just of do whatever it is a you wanna do that. No that's a technical term trampoline is it it is points for getting gygi with it yet. Score what what. What do you think you'd be best trampoline by the way just on. I'm a novice trampoline. Right they appear to go. And i don't know that this is accurate. They appear to go four hundred feet in the air at the olympics. Right they go very very high. They're hearing the statue of liberty detailing he watch them highlights of this. Yeah they go very high. You guys go to sky zone or equivalent of sky zone you know skies on his. No guys owns essentially a trampoline park where you can go and it's like an indoor trampoline tornado my go to those all the time It's a dangerous game being zaidi anytime hosted video there are foam pits there basketball hoops. You could kinda jump up to a dunk on. And then they're sitting. There are rooms that are just trampolines. The entire floor is made up of trampolines for like two hundred feet. And it's like obviously individual trampolines because two hundred foot long trampoline. You wouldn't be able to bounce on but there's a bunch of individual trampolines like two hundred feet long and then the walls are angled with trampolines on the wall that you can bounce off of. But as chris cody was saying tornado city. The adults are always getting injured. They're like horrific injuries happen a trampoline. It looks dangerous. i'm not gonna lie. It's looks like my achilles tendon just explode. It's really exhausting though. Yeah well it's like the little like bouncy workout thing. Oh yeah prepare but they have really cool socks they go. Wow that was a good horse. Sound right there. Resources feed clapping. Whenever you've done dressage. She's good jessen. I've been watching for ten minutes. This video of this horse dancing and it's it's a roller coaster ride i. I was impressed. And i'm starting to feel bad for the horse. There's not even anyone riding this horse. What was i was just watching. Gala lays routine from rio twenty sixteen. They won him his gold medal home. And hell i love that. We're all just on youtube horses man. Where's this horse video. I don't see it all right. Sorry that was a private message. Chris own message fagin. I mean we rented koetter. Dancing unison.

Are Amazon Rumors Behind Bitcoins Biggest Surge in Months?

"Bitcoin had an absolutely ripping weekend moving from the thirty two thousand. We saw entering the weekend all the way up to thirty nine thousand as i record. It's off just a little from that at around. Thirty eight thousand five hundred or so but still up about twelve percent in the last twenty four hours basically everything. Besides bitcoin is up as well. So the question of today's show is of course what's behind the surge now usually price action. I don't think would be worth an entire show. However in today's context i think it is for a couple reasons. I is that it actually reveals at least says a lot about some of the ways that different forces interact with one another to create price action and crypto markets that i think is a good reminder especially as we get locked into one narrative explanation or another. The second reason is that it's been kind of bleak for a little while so let us enjoy our one day of face ripping volatility the upside discussion. Okay all right so four possible answers. I've seen on crypto twitter about why bitcoin is having its biggest surge in a couple of months. The four possible answers. I've seen are an amazon by rumor. A teenage soothsayer astrology in a short squeeze. So let's go through these amazon by rumor. This is sort of a weird combination of a real thing and a rumor. The real thing happened at the end of last week amazon posted. A job listing on its job site for a digital currency and blockchain product lead quote ua leverage your domain expertise in blockchain distributed ledger central bank digital currencies in crypto currency to develop the case for the capabilities which should be developed dr overall vision and product strategy and gain leadership by an investment for new capabilities. An amazon spokesperson also followed up with coin. Desk saying quote we're inspired by the innovation happening in the crypto currency space. And are exploring what this could look like on amazon. We believe the future will be built on new technologies that enable modern fast and inexpensive payments and hope to bring that future to amazon customers as soon as possible

"The book you wrote you. The chapters are all ways. People had seen you write and categories. You'd but sometimes walked into willingly and and sometimes is that had been an armor right so it was everything from you or how you seen yourself. We fraud tomboy rebel teammate. Lesbian manic depressive captain leader romantic hero addict failure and then the last chapter is human somewhere. You said i had created yourself. All these categories that were both generated from you generated externally helped create you but shut you off from becoming human fully. Human glennon has said this a lot. you know. We're all kinda like russian nesting dolls and as we get older. We kinda keep putting on all of these costumes. And that's what i thought for me growing up. That's what i thought. I had to do to mature to age to get. Wisdom is to put on all these different costumes and see which one fit. And i think that now having gone through a lot of my life granted i'm still fairly young thirty eight but i realized that the more you can actually take those costumes off and get down to that little small immobile russian nesting doll. That is like who you are your true self that is like the humanity of all of us and we all are in there. I visited very random. But i just wanna share it. Because it was reading thinking he ended with human which seems like the simplest most elemental thing of all but is really the work of a lifetime. Right i was thinking about this you. When i studied theology paul tillich wrote the courage to be and he's called an existentialist feel ogen. I read it when i was older. Because i was emphasized when i thought that to be that being but the current the book is actually about how the courage it takes right. The courage is the work.

Tesla Fighting Back in China

"Rob our here and today. We're going to be discussing tesla in china. Tesla is pushing back on some of the brake failure reports that we've talked quite a bit about we'll talk about the most recent development there. Then what kind of continued the tour around the world. We've got some news on. Gigabyte wins news in canada and the us as well and what was it out with an update on batteries. I will take a quick look at the stock tesla today giving up the gains that it had seen earlier this week finishing down two point three percent on the day to six hundred and fifty three dollars. Thirty eight cents a few dollars below the closing price last friday. The s&p and dow were up. But the nasdaq did finish down. Do tons of a percent okay. Let's start off with that news out of china just as some back story of course over the last couple of months. We've been talking about reports of brake failures. In china tesla china has obviously pushed back on that claiming that there were no brake failures. These were just user errors. Detention around that peaked during the shanghai autoshow couple months back with a woman protesting claiming failures but other people have also made similar claims since then we have seen tesla take action so they've hired more people in communications. They've asked for and actually received some apologies from media and influencers that either reported on the stories accurately or in the case of one influence are actually just made up story for more attention. Shocker but those actions do seem to be helping as best. I can tell externally while today. We've got the latest chapter in that. Saga kelvin. young on twitter is reporting that tesla china is suing one of the owners that made claims of brake failures that owner shared details of the situation and away bow post which in translation reads quote. Hello everyone i am. The owner of wenzel tesla out of control. I received tussles indictment the day before yesterday. Now i will release the previous. Fdr tests report of wenzel automotive engineering society. I hope you kind people can help me analyze it. Thank you and quote. Etr test results there that just means event data recorder test results so basically just a third party analysis of what happened during the supposed- brake failure situation lots of replies on this thread one of the first ones reads quote. Don't you understand this result. Means that number one break his okay number two you stepped on the accelerator and quote.

Our aviation weekenders yen's flow tout and fan goldstein ben. Let's start with you. Tell us about this united order yet. Joe so the order was united's largest ever it was also one of the biggest orders We've seen in the past decade Particularly in in recent years You know it's for one hundred fifty seven three seven max aircraft Breaking it down. It's a hundred max. Tens and fifty. Max eighths as well as the seventy eight three twenty. One nieto's united already had an order placed for one hundred max tense so this ups their commitment to two hundred and fifty. Max tends making it by far the largest operator of of the type which is of course the the largest max variant these. These planes are all due to arrive. between twenty twenty two most of them between twenty twenty two and twenty twenty six and is really going to ramp up pretty quickly in twenty twenty three. They're going to be taking a one hundred thirty eight aircraft so that some really about one plane every three days so a lot of capacity coming in and at the same time as they're taking these these new jets they're going to be retiring more than two hundred fifty seaters. This is going to amount to a really big increase in capacity at united

Used to be called research products and a few really cool things. Like we invented. And patented the whole home humidifier. That was a good one. Smart came up with the first pleaded filter. So we've been really doing a lot of stuff for a lot of years and we are basically the you know. The indoor air quality product authority of in america is a cool cool company at. I love what we do and we all know to now because of covid Whether people like it or not. But it's really forced indoor air quality to the forefront right and we realized how important it is now Even though people like you and i were educating people long before covid now it seems like everybody's on board that we have to do something. Yeah you're right carolyn. I mean the industry is really taken a shift. It's now sort of being pulled by the consumer. I mean consumers understand is not an indoor air quality accessory. it's an indoor air quality. Necessity industry are sort of being pulled by the homeowners. Because homeowners are super smart. I mean think about it a year and a half to sit on line in their house doing nothing researching stuff so so contractors need to be smart as the customers now. Climate Change Is Threatening The U.S. West's Water Supply

"Technically just started but it seems. Like the drought in the western. Us is already really extreme. Oh yeah yeah. There is some scary numbers. I'm sorry to say here. I go almost half. The population of the country is facing dry conditions. Seventy percent of the west is in severe drought already. Several states like california and arizona had their dryest year since recordkeeping began in eighteen. Ninety five Wildfire risk is really high. Keep going here. This is very very worrying everything you're saying especially when you put it in a big list like that. Yeah it really is and as you might imagine it's already leading some difficult conversations and then we will provide an update on the current status of the colorado river over so the colorado river is a key water source for seven states around forty million people. Ted cook is a water manager in arizona and he and his colleagues held a meeting in late april that everyone had hoped to avoid the reason. We're meeting today is at lake. Mead is thirty eight percent salt lake. Mead is the largest reservoir on the colorado river and in the country for that matter. It's just outside of las vegas and it's it's formed by the hoover dam. Y'all lauren i have been to the hoover dam o. My family and i drove over the hoover dam when you could still do that when i was fourteen. And what i remember is like precipitously tall. Massive concrete dam and a steep rock canyon. And when you look down at a dizzying so high yeah. Yeah and so back. Then you probably saw like a decent amount of water in the reservoir definitely. Yeah so since you've been there. The vars dropped by a lot since two thousand. It's fallen by a hundred and forty feet. Wow so now what you see when you look out. Is this white bath tub ring on the rocks around the reservoir which kinda shows where the water used to be and just this month it fell to its lowest point since it was first filled in nineteen thirties that is shocking and does that mean people have to start cutting back on their water us. Yeah and this summer you know. We're expecting the first ever official shortage to be declared on the river which basically means mandatory cutbacks for states like arizona. Which is why they call that meeting. Ten cook is expecting a thirty percent cut. He called pant hall reduction painful.

What if Earth Spun 10 Times Faster?

"What if earth spun ten times faster. I'm pretty sure we didn't earthy question last week. i think we did. Is continent connected. It was well still even though we did that. One just before it had been a while before that what it feels like we haven't done many earthy questions i know feels like a long time to him. Maybe one week is too long for me to not do a question about earth. Marcus herbal object permanence. If i don't see the earth how do i know it exists then. Sincere being snarky bathroom. Why don't you start us when i get so. I looked into obviously the spain. Ten times faster. That's going to change. How long are days and nights are. We're looking to try before before you get too far into it. We just one note. Yes our parameters here. We're basically saying that. The earth is always spinning ten times. Faster not just immediately starting to go ten times faster like an overnight thing to despise of nobody if the earth suddenly started moving ten times faster it is an absolute catastrophic accompany of earthquakes. You know ridiculous strong hurricanes and things Everyone just dies before anything interesting happens. That isn't just immediately apparent of why you don't drastically changed of planets and benz shorter day night cycle really doesn't matter at all. It does not sure does one real short day. No one will be there for the night. So that's the only thing. I want to add before you jump in bed but go ahead. Yes so the first question is you know what are our current days. Like around around the world. So it varies based on where you are in relation to the equator. If you're the equator your days are around twelve hours long all year long. I should look a city in. Ecuador called Kito or i'm not sure which is about sixteen miles south of the equator. And they're the the daytime. Was you know it was from from like twelve hours and five minutes to twelve hours. Eight-match minutes year round. You know so pretty constant twelve hour day tomorrow night for us. We're all around boston on this. Podcast it does fluctuate based on the season so as we're recording this. We're actually just coming up on the summer solstice which is june twentieth. It's obviously already passed listening to this. But on the solstice which is the day where the day is longest shortest The sunrises five of seven. Am sunsets eight twenty four pm. So the daytime is about fifteen quarter hours around sixty four percent of the day on the contrary the winter solstice which is in december december. Twenty first it's kind of the inverse so sunset is our sunrise seven ten. Am sunsets four fourteen pm. so daytime. it's only about nine hours. It's about thirty eight percent of the day so obviously if you have ten times faster days you're going to have started ten times faster rotation of earth. You're going to have days their tenth as long.

"We will add them to the rose bowl and podcast instagram story so keep them coming stick around at the end of the show we'll have some more life changing important announcements but for now we're gonna get into our first segment fortnight squad etiquette so i've talked about it many times four nine is one of the most popular video games in the world right now it's highly addictive very simple simple to grasp but can be played on playstation four xbox one or so there's a lot of different consuls that you can rock this thing on we actually did a segment called fort night for all in our vp twenty three if you're looking to hear more about the game if you're completely unfamiliar with it and then there's also a stream titled fortnight for dummies that you can access on my twitter account at twitch dot com slash boss role in thirteen thirteen if you're looking to see kind of how to game works but for those who do play which is again a fuck load of people i wanted to discuss some of the finer points of the game here in fort night you can play with what is known as a squad it would be you and up to three other players on your team making you a squad of four and you can choose to be paired up with randoms ranches totally people you're totally unfamiliar with or you can form a squad with your friends by inviting them to come play with you and there's some general unwritten rules that apparently as i've spent more and more time on the game not everyone grasps regarding squad etiquette so i decided to perform a public service as i do often and outline these unwritten rules myself i one if you are in a squad and you on fortunately pass away while the rest of your squad lives on shut the fuck up keep one of the most essential parts of achieving victory.
